- 0:23Speaker 1: I'm your host, thor Chalgren, and each weekday I share new thought perspectives.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Today I want to talk about celebrating Yesterday.
- 0:34Speaker 1: I started a four-part series to celebrate back to school.
- 0:38Speaker 1: I'm calling this series Put Yourself First.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Yesterday, I shared my own perspective as an empty nester parent.
- 0:46Speaker 1: It was five years ago.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I was an empty nester for the first time, and now I kind of am again.
- 0:53Speaker 1: My daughter, who was here with us after graduating, has now left home, this time most likely for good.
- 1:01Speaker 1: So our house is empty again.
- 1:06Speaker 1: As I said yesterday, now is the perfect time to put yourself first.
- 1:10Speaker 1: The question is what are you going to do?
- 1:13Speaker 1: As I mentioned yesterday, I started by making a decision.
- 1:18Speaker 1: One of the challenges in deciding to move forward is that once we decide, we can be so anxious to move forward that we don't pause even for a moment to celebrate what we just did.
- 1:32Speaker 1: So that's my message for today Celebrate, party.
- 1:39Speaker 1: If you're at some crossroads in life where you've just accomplished completing a long journey, stop, pause and take a moment to celebrate what you just accomplished.
- 1:52Speaker 1: There are two reasons why.
- 1:54Speaker 1: First, you need to celebrate you If you have kids that graduated and have left the house.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I bet you had a graduation party for them to celebrate them, and of course you should do that.
- 2:09Speaker 1: But what about you?
- 2:10Speaker 1: Did you have a party for you?
- 2:13Speaker 1: You celebrate.
- 2:15Speaker 1: You did this monumental thing raising a kid.
- 2:17Speaker 1: That's worthy of celebrating.
- 2:20Speaker 1: So you should celebrate this however you want, so that you give yourself that pat on the back Could be a party, a weekend away, a long trip, something where you get to celebrate you.
- 2:33Speaker 1: The second reason you should celebrate is so that you can really remind yourself of what you achieved.
- 2:41Speaker 1: I think it's great to make a list, literally write out the things you're good at, whatever skills that you acquired in this phase of your life.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Write them down.
- 2:52Speaker 1: For me, if I was writing this down, I'd list things like I started a Girl Scout troop from scratch.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I became a trained soccer referee.
- 3:03Speaker 1: I was president of the band boosters in middle school.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I was president of the cheer boosters in high school.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I coached my daughter to help her get to her Girl Scout Gold Award.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Those are all the things I did.
- 3:16Speaker 1: If I listed those out, I'd begin to see all the things that I had accomplished in this life.
- 3:23Speaker 1: So I recommend that you make a list of your accomplishments during this time that you've just wrapped up.
- 3:30Speaker 1: You might be surprised when you see it and writing all the amazing things that you did and that you are capable of now.
- 3:39Speaker 1: So, as a reminder, I put together a video training series called Put Yourself First.
- 3:44Speaker 1: It's free.
- 3:44Speaker 1: It's four videos, one every day, followed by a short exercise.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I think it's a great way to pause, to reflect and then be able to move forward with the next chapter in your life.
- 3:56Speaker 1: So when you're done celebrating, go check it out.
