- 0:00I am complete.
- 0:01I am myself.
- 0:02I don't feel any different.
- 0:04I feel part of everyone.
- 0:07I feel part of Hashem.
- 0:08I feel part of you, and you feel part of me, and we are working together.
- 0:26OK。 Okay, wonderful.
- 0:29Good morning, everyone.
- 0:31Good morning.
- 0:32It is, it's a pleasure to be here again.
- 0:35In regard of Sukkot, what is amazing of Sukkot is like the end products of the High Holidays.
- 0:45So we end with Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah.
- 0:51The end of these beautiful holidays.
- 0:54So we have to understand the evolution of these holidays.
- 0:59The holidays start with Elul already.
- 1:03So it's a long preparation of a whole month before.
- 1:08We want to create a preparation call in Hebrew teshuva.
- 1:14Teshuva is to return.
- 1:17Is not to repent, is to return.
- 1:20Because the most important point is returning.
- 1:24Every year is a new cycle of life, right?
- 1:29Every day is a new cycle of life.
- 1:33But now is a renewal of a year cycle.
- 1:39So why is so important this renewal?
- 1:42Because we have two types of commandments that we call commandments to do and commandments not to do.
- 1:51The commandments to do, we can do teshuva through the year.
- 1:56But the commandments of not to do only are possible to repair in Yom Kippur.
- 2:04The Torah have 613 commandments.
- 2:08248 are positive, and 363 are negative.
- 2:16So what, when we make a transgression of a negative, we cannot repair it through the year.
- 2:25We only repair on Yom Kippur.
- 2:28The, the returning, the teshuvah of, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, and end Shemini Atzeret, that is the, the integration of all the holidays.
- 2:42And then with Simchat Torah, where there is a complete unity.
- 2:47Everyone, every man can hold a Sefer Torah.
- 2:51Doesn't matter who he is, if he comes regularly to the shul or not come, everyone can integrate because we are a unity.
- 3:00So what we see Good morning, Ami.
- 3:04What we see really is that everything is unity.
- 3:11Everything in life, is living So in order to live, we have integration.
- 3:18When there is separation, There is disintegration disintegration is what happen in the grave.
- 3:27The body and soul needs to be together.
- 3:30If there is no soul, the body dies, and separates, and disappear.
- 3:38Always there is a piece of the body that will rest for the coming of Moshiach and for the final redemption.
- 3:46So all this is part of the prophecy of Ezekiel, where he sees bones, they, get sinews and, and meat, they start to appear life again.
- 4:01This is our expectation for our life to be reconnected.
- 4:08So the idea of unity, this is my point.
- 4:12The idea of unity is fundamental that's why we have Shema Yisrael, Hashem Elokeinu, Hashem Echad.
- 4:20Everything is a unity.
- 4:23So in these holidays, we are seeing how we are bringing everything unity.
- 4:29You have the unity of the four species, the unity of what they represent, the lulav, what represent the aravot or the myrtle, and the etrog.
- 4:40And we enter into a cover a dome.
- 4:46Is fragile, is temporary, but we use that only for seven days Okay.
- 4:55And there is many symbolim-- one other symbols that we find in Sukkot is the, the sacrifices of seven bulls, seven bulls every day, and they represent 70 nation that exists in the world.
- 5:16We consider that there are 70 nation.
- 5:18We have more than 70 because they are derivative of this one but there are 70, and 70 princes in the spiritual world.
- 5:31And it cor- correlate with the seven days of the week.
- 5:37Correct?
- 5:38So everything is connected.
- 5:42What Hashem wants is to create a dwelling place in this world.
- 5:50He comes here, a dwelling place.
- 5:53He choose one man.
- 5:55He choose Abraham, and then Abraham, to his son, Isaac, and then from Isaac to Jacob, and the 12 tribes So we are the nation right now till the beginning of, Abraham in this world.
- 6:15We are the nation that is the, expression of, of God.
- 6:23And but every nation, every human being is part of this world, is part of Hashem.
- 6:31We are all children from Hashem.
- 6:34There is no difference between us and between others, the other nation.
- 6:41The only point here is we are the nation that decided to follow Hashem's laws.
- 6:51And that is what give us that, uh, the status that we have.
- 6:58But this is-- Hashem is not content, is not satisfied with having only the Jewish nation.
- 7:06He wants all the nations, all the princes of the world, all the princes ab-above the 70, princes in, in, the spiritual level, or the 70 nation that exists in the world, physical world, to recognize His, H- Hashem.
- 7:27This is what Hashem wants, to be recognized.
- 7:31Because he created a human being that is half a body and half a soul.
- 7:39And the soul that we receive is a soul that comes directly from Hashem, is a, a godly soul.
- 7:49So we have this godly soul, and our function is to create a world of unity, a world where we want to bless all the nations.
- 8:03We don't want to be separate.
- 8:05Every nation is important because every nation has characteristic that are important in this unity, in this creation.
- 8:16We have to accept and they have to accept us as we are.
- 8:21When we create that unity, that is the unity that Hashem is, is looking for So we have, we have a mind and thought, we have emotion that are rep- represented in our heart, and we have all the m- physical organs in our body that comp- that represent this, materiality.
- 8:50Hashem doesn't have a hand, but we are his hand.
- 8:54Hashem doesn't have his, a mouth.
- 8:56He doesn't have a a direct speech, but we are his mouth.
- 9:02We say, in the Tehillah of Hamida, Adonai sefatay tiftach en, en pi yakete latecha,"I will please Hashem, open my mouth- And I will praise you.
- 9:19The idea of praise is because Hashem is the creator of the world, and this is what we have through all the time, and this is what we express in these holidays, is to return to Hashem, to do teshuvah.
- 9:40And how we do teshuvah, by returning to our source, and our source is Hashem.
- 9:49We, many Jews, they don't recognize this, and we need constantly a, a reminder, a re- a cleaning again.
- 10:03So in Rosh Hashanah, there is a, a book that open, is a book that will open, and to who will continue living in this world, to whom is continue to have a good life.
- 10:20Life is like a, a, a round circle.
- 10:26So sometimes a person can be good n- now and could become poor in the future.
- 10:34So the, the idea of, i- is that we connect back.
- 10:41That is returning, the returning of ourself to Hashem to, understand that he is our creator, and if he does and he gave us a Torah, is for our benefit.
- 10:56If he tell us what to do, is because he is our father.
- 11:01Like a father say to a, a educate his children in certain way, giving them some kind of rules in order that they will follow a path.
- 11:13So that is the path that a Jew needs to follow.
- 11:17But the most, this, the most important part is that we are one body and one unity.
- 11:26So we, in Sukkot, we return to Gan Eden.
- 11:32The sukkah is that represent by, that is under the sky, is under the sky.
- 11:43The, and we have, those branches of palm or other type of trees that we cover our sukkah.
- 11:51This is that we are connected with nature And the arba minim, the four spices are the expression of those, connection with a fruit.
- 12:07In the same way that Hashem be- is- put, Adam in the, in Gan Eden, in the Edgar, in the paradise where he has so many trees.
- 12:19He said,"You can eat from all the trees, but from one you have to...
- 12:26You cannot eat." And that, why is that?
- 12:31And this tree and the fruit, it w- is exactly the fruit of the etrog.
- 12:37That is the etrog.
- 12:38This is the etrog that we are, we are holding in our hands when we move the four spices.
- 12:45So you have something that is very tall, like this lulav.
- 12:49Then you have, two other, two other, the my- myrtle and the other, uh, branch.
- 12:57And all together they represent the unity in of four kind of, of, souls.
- 13:07Those are the four kind of souls that must be united.
- 13:13And we unite not only us, but we are creating in the Beit Hamikdash the sacrifice of those seven bulls every 70.
- 13:25It, in a, in a degrading way means that we are started with 70, then with less, and then less, till the last day.
- 13:35Beside that, in the temple, in Sukkot, there is another custom that was very important, and is the custom of throwing on the altar water.
- 13:51So that water is the representation of the light of Hashem.
- 13:57Is the flow of energy of all the blessing that comes through water.
- 14:04Water represent also the desires of the human being, are represented in water.
- 14:13We bring this water down here and, and beside that, every Hol HaMoed, something very big happen.
- 14:24The great sages, they used to take, to feel vulnerable, in order to feel vulnerable, they take torches and game, and, and have games with these torches.
- 14:39And, and is, is, is something unbelievable.
- 14:43So how you can understand a, a, a high priest, that he is the h- the highest spiritual being, he takes A seven torches and he is gambling with the torches and moving up and down, moving up and down.
- 15:02As, this is a, an expression that created a joy.
- 15:07So wh- what is the joy of, of Sukkot?
- 15:12The joy of the Sukkot is the unity between us and the unity between Hashem.
- 15:19When we take a symbol that is any mitzvah, is not...
- 15:25The mitzvah, we have two ways to understand.
- 15:29One is viscerally.
- 15:32So we have something that where we cannot think.
- 15:37There is no intellect.
- 15:38The visceras are the organs of the body.
- 15:42The liver is a viscera.
- 15:43The stomach is a viscera.
- 15:45The heart is another viscera of our body.
- 15:48So what we do here, we, we understand Hashem above, above our intellect because our intellect is also in a way that, that create a separation.
- 16:07There is, we have to do things in a visceral way, that has to come without understanding, is above understanding We un- we l- teach the p- people, our Rabbanim is teaching us the meaning of every one of those symbols.
- 16:27But the idea is not that.
- 16:30The idea is to be connected in a way that is above understanding.
- 16:38It's the same idea.
- 16:39I have to love my ch- I love my children above understanding.
- 16:45This is Hashem, above understanding, above int- above intellect.
- 16:51When there is that unity that you are united with your, your fellow, friend, your fellow Jew, you are united because this is the unity.
- 17:03You don't do it because he has a nice face, as is, uh, he's intellectual or he has other abilities.
- 17:11You love him by himself.
- 17:14So when we love by, uh, as the things are by themself, we go above, and transcend everything.
- 17:25And the mitzvah is only a tool.
- 17:29It is a way to bring the light from Hashem to a material world.
- 17:35So because it's things that are material.
- 17:38You are t- touching a, a trope.
- 17:41You are touching a lulav.
- 17:42You are under the Sukkah.
- 17:44So all those things are material, are physical.
- 17:48We can see them.
- 17:49We can touch them.
- 17:51And we need to touch.
- 17:53We need to s- to have senses, and, and those senses are important for us.
- 17:59But at the same time, there is a higher level of connection with God and connection with the, with our fellows that is above understanding, above intellect.
- 18:13Because the intellect is a thought.
- 18:16Intellect are thought that enters in our mind and, and, and create in us boundaries Eh, that is what make that a young, uh, teenager, he has stopped to do things.
- 18:33He doesn't want to continue or he doesn't like to go to the university, like the previous generation, like my generation, like your, our gen- generation.
- 18:43So they are looking for something different.
- 18:47This is what we see in the teenagers today.
- 18:50They feel separate.
- 18:53They feel dissociated from the general, gener- from the generation, from the world where they live.
- 19:03They get, they find other's way.
- 19:06They are looking for other's, something more genuine to be connected, and they don't find it.
- 19:14and w- we as, as parent also feel this dissociation, this disconnection between our children and between us.
- 19:25And this is something that happen from s- generation and generation It didn't happen with me with my own parents, but this is what we see today.
- 19:36We see the children that needs a different guidance.
- 19:41A, they want something more through, more significant.
- 19:46And the Torah is teaching us to go and be more genuine, more you, more connected.
- 19:55When you connect with your own self, when you are the, the vessel, the recipient of the light of HaShem, everything change.
- 20:07B- if you put certain ideas on top and that create a separation, we want to be a, a, a vehicle, a, a connect- a connector, and this is what HaShem wants for us.
- 20:24That's what he gave us hands and heart, emotion, intellect.
- 20:30It, gave us also understanding, that is the idea of mind that understand things.
- 20:37We have that.
- 20:38We have so many gift in our hands and but in general, what we see is a dissatisfaction in people, dissatisfaction in the young generation, dissociation of the young generation.
- 20:56And we as parents suffer because we cannot We see that and, and actually we also went through all this trauma because we, uh, we-- that's why we learn, and that, and this is the, the object of the Torah, and this is the purpose of saying Teshuvah.
- 21:18The Teshuvah is so important because that give me a purpose, a reason of being, a re- la- that give me the satisfaction that I need in order to be myself.
- 21:32No, a, a repli- a replica of a book, no a replica of others' idea, but me, me.
- 21:42So, and this is what is the re- a rebellious children, the rebellious teenagers.
- 21:49They don't want to follow rules.
- 21:52They don't want to tell-- them, that we tell them what to do, and the reason is because they didn't find themselves in their, in those rules.
- 22:02They didn't find themselves in this Torah So, and we have to understand them, and to open ourself, no by being the big one and being, and creating barriers and separation with the young, uh, generation.
- 22:24We have to reunite those r- young generation.
- 22:29And it's not Before, it was to reunite the one that they were learner and the one that they were ignorant.
- 22:37It's not, now it's not, this is not the point today.
- 22:41The point today is, is to unite all of us and understand each of us, to b- to be a res- a vessel to receives your, your other friend.
- 22:55To, to, a, a, to be a vessel and understanding and uni- and uni- unite with your children, that they feel separated from us.
- 23:06There is no separation, and it's very hard, this point that I am, point up, because, this is the whole purpose of our existence and our life.
- 23:19I, we want that, and this is the meaning of those, those four spices, that we connect in with the six, from north, south, east, west, up, and down.
- 23:40That is what we do with the four spices.
- 23:43We create a vibration.
- 23:45When we, you, we move the, the four spices, you are creating an energy, a vibration, and that vibration we connect up and down, right and left, east, and west.
- 24:01So this is how the, the makom, this is the p- the, the idea of a space.
- 24:07The space is form for these six Connection that we have.
- 24:14Six, six, dimension.
- 24:17So those six dimension are part of our life.
- 24:20So when we understand that there are rules that already are made like that, you cannot change that there is seven days of the week.
- 24:30You cannot make...
- 24:31I- there is things that, okay, I can do, but I can...
- 24:35I, we have to teach our- ourself, not only the children, ourself to, to have this connection that, that creating us, th- this connection creating us suffering and pain.
- 24:52And, and then that pain and that suffering, we have to go o- over it and overcome.
- 24:59And okay, that is my, the idea that I wanted to bring you today of the...
- 25:06And when we have the, the idea of unity, when we have unity, we are complete, and there is shalom.
- 25:15That is the idea of shalom.
- 25:17Shalom also is completion.
- 25:20I am complete.
- 25:22I am myself.
- 25:23I, I, uh, I, I don't feel any more different.
- 25:27I feel part of everyone.
- 25:29I feel part of Hashem.
- 25:31I feel part of you, and you feel part of me, and we are working together.
- 25:38Because Natalie has ability that I don't have.
- 25:43Julie has abilities that I don't have.
- 25:47So, we have to combine the abilities of, of Renee with my abilities, o- and, and we are respect, with a lot of respect.
- 25:58Without having jealousy, without having negative thought, we can be together, and we be one.
- 26:08Because Hashem is only one.
- 26:10Hashem is with us, and this is Hashem what wants to bring us in this holiday, and this is part of the whole Torah.
- 26:19The Torah is a blueprint that Hashem gave us in order to give us all the guidance that we need in order to be that, to f- be with kind of perfection.
- 26:34We are not perfect.
- 26:35We came here lacking Is n- we, no one is perfect because Hashem made us in this way in order that I need Linda sometimes.
- 26:46I need her, her advice, or she may need me sometimes.
- 26:52So we are a one with the other, like has like a big family.
- 26:59Like what, how we have to be with our sisters and our brothers and wh- and everything.
- 27:05We are one.
- 27:06So that is the message of today.
- 27:09This is the message of Sukkot, and that's why at the end we have Simchat Torah, and we embrace our Torah that is, is everything for us, is the wisdom of Hashem, is the whole Torah is the name of Hashem.
- 27:26We embrace the Torah, and we dance together, and we feel the joy of being united.
- 27:34Am Yisrael Chai.
- 27:38And thank you very much.
- 27:39So this is my thought today, and I- and now I am open.
- 27:45Eh, you have your daughter-in-law, Natalie?
- 27:50Yes.
- 27:50Nice to meet you.
- 27:52Okay.
- 27:53uh, Jul- uh, Linda, you want to, start?
- 27:58Like the Dr.
- 27:59Linda Benederet Yes.
- 28:01Hello.
- 28:02Sure.
- 28:03You, you know, when you were talking about how, we had to teach the younger generation, it's kinda like we had to be taught also.
- 28:14Exactly.
- 28:14So, and, and what I was thinking was it's kind of like, you know, raising kids.
- 28:20You want their life to be better than yours was.
- 28:22It's like, so although w- we all had excellent teachers, I'm sure we aspire to be even better, you know?
- 28:32And, like, passing on our knowledge and passing on our wisdom.
- 28:36So, you know, I, I really, you know, was, was really focused in on that whole concept of, you know, of sharing and teaching and, and, that, that sometimes, you know, teaching someone something that is very soulful is, really profound.
- 28:55You know, I, I did not come from any money.
- 28:57I came from, you know, middle class, America, Detroit, Motor City, you know.
- 29:01And my, my dad was not in the car business or anything like that.
- 29:04But, but didn't come from anything, but was known about education, you know, and was taught about education and to become educated.
- 29:13But my parents taught me philanthropy, and they did not have money to donate, but they, they had time, and they worked in charity and, you know?
- 29:22So when I was a little kid, I knew about City of Hope and Hadassah, and, and I knew about charity.
- 29:28And, you know, so for me at this point in my life, being able to be philanthropic at places I love and to support things I truly believe in is such a gift from Hashem to me, you know?
- 29:44And, and so, like, I just feel so blessed to be in a position of my life right now, you know, in, in so many ways.
- 29:54So, you know, I find myself in constant thankfulness and in awe of all the blessings I'm receiving.
- 30:03And really, I, I That's my, that's my story.
- 30:08Beautiful.
- 30:08Beautiful.
- 30:09You are an example.
- 30:10Julie I wanna focus on unity, and I wanna focus on what you were saying, unity equals shalom.
- 30:22so basically what I'm understanding you say, and tell me if I'm hearing this correctly, is as we work on ourselves and better ourselves, okay?
- 30:34To, as we talk about to do teshuvah and to really return to who we were created to be, okay?
- 30:44That everybody's doing the sa- That's what we all wanna be doing, bettering ourselves is what we wanna do.
- 30:51Okay?
- 30:52So when we talk about unity, we talk about accepting someone for where they're at.
- 31:00Mm-hmm.
- 31:00Mm-hmm.
- 31:00Mm-hmm.
- 31:01And because we're all working on ourselves to better ourselves.
- 31:06I always think about Psalm 49, and I think about the psalm of, that's the psalm that you read, that you recite when you're at a shiva home, for example.
- 31:17And I really focus on that line that says,"It's all about bettering ourselves." You know?
- 31:25It's so...
- 31:26That's the whole point of our life, is to keep bettering ourselves.
- 31:31And so if we're bettering ourselves, you know, and other people are bettering themselves, and they're doing what they can and the best that they can do to be able to Work on themselves, emulate Hashem like we talk about all the time, is that that's the unity that we're looking for.
- 31:53We're not looking for to be separated from someone.
- 31:57We wanna understand.
- 31:59We wanna understand.
- 32:00We wanna really understand.
- 32:02We wanna listen.
- 32:03We wanna hear.
- 32:04We wanna hear what they're going through, and what, and how we could be helpful for them.
- 32:10Is that what I'm understanding when it comes to the unity?
- 32:14'Cause that's a really powerful word that you're using as far as unity.
- 32:18You're using it as far as shalom.
- 32:20I know when you bring all the species together, I know when, you know, they talk about, you know, the learned people versus the non-learned people, and everything like that, that we're all one, and we all have to work together like that.
- 32:32Is that what we're talking about when we talk about the unity?
- 32:36Yes.
- 32:37It is, is more than that.
- 32:39Uh-huh.
- 32:40It's the acceptance of who you are- Mm-hmm in the middle of a group.
- 32:47In the middle of a group.
- 32:48And, and, uh, this is what I meant, to say that you have- Okay qualities that I don't have.
- 32:54But, uh, when we work together in a same mission- Right we, we are a team.
- 33:01Mm-hmm.
- 33:02And we are team that works together, and in this team must be love.
- 33:08Love is also unity Means that we are connected.
- 33:14Okay.
- 33:14I- this is something that is missing in our today world.
- 33:20If we don't- Well, that's what you're talking about children.
- 33:22What were you focused on about children when you're saying you're bringing up about the children, and they're really struggling and everything like that?
- 33:30And we're supposed to listen to them, to hear what they're feeling and everything like that, to understand- Yes why they're struggling so much and what- Yes, yes, absolutely.
- 33:41what we see in our generation, we are professional generation.
- 33:48Many are do- That's cash, emotions doctors and e- engineer, and the woman left the home- Exactly to work outside.
- 33:57That is part of the, what happened during this cycle of life.
- 34:03That's right.
- 34:03So before, the woman was at home.
- 34:06Mm-hmm.
- 34:06And she was the supporter of the family.
- 34:10Mm-hmm.
- 34:10The, at, and, but today, who is educating the children?
- 34:16A teacher that doesn't care if, if they learn or don't learn.
- 34:20Right.
- 34:20So that, that create a trauma in the child.
- 34:25there is divorce.
- 34:27There is so many, conflicts, even in the c- couple.
- 34:31Mm-hmm.
- 34:31So the couple, they don't find a common denominator.
- 34:35They suffer.
- 34:36Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
- 34:37And that creates, uh, suffering in the ch- in the children.
- 34:41We are destroying the, the, the love, the, the kind, the, a, a child- Mm-hmm is very candid, is calm, and- Right.
- 34:51Mm-hmm and when he is young, they, they say things that everyone love or, or everyone appreciate, and they lose that.
- 35:02And, and we, and we don't listen to them.
- 35:06Many times we take things, okay, they are going to grow.
- 35:11But this is not right.
- 35:13Mm-hmm.
- 35:13Mm-hmm.
- 35:14You to a child, you have, you have to give him all the understanding.
- 35:18It's not to send him to a good school.
- 35:21Mm-hmm.
- 35:22Mm-hmm.
- 35:22It is not the work of a teacher to be the mother of the child.
- 35:27Right.
- 35:28It's not that.
- 35:29It's you are the mother.
- 35:31It's true that we also went through many traumas in our own life, our disconnection with our f- parents.
- 35:40So e- everyone has to improve themselves, like you said.
- 35:45Mm-hmm.
- 35:45Mm-hmm.
- 35:45We have to improve ourself.
- 35:48Mm-hmm.
- 35:48And, and that is the, the reason of the Torah.
- 35:53This is the, the purpose and the mission that the Torah is teaching us.
- 35:58Be a good mother, be a good wife.
- 36:02Understand.
- 36:03Because for our husband, we are the first support.
- 36:08Right.
- 36:09Yeah.
- 36:10And so it's sharing, it's love, it's unity.
- 36:15That is the word.
- 36:16And no, not the problem that exists today, and it's so painful to see all those young, uh, teenagers already.
- 36:27They, uh, now they even, they don't want to work.
- 36:31Mm-hmm.
- 36:32They want to stay- Mm-hmm and no working, no nothing.
- 36:36So that, for us, is very difficult to accept.
- 36:40Mm-hmm.
- 36:41Because we were taught by our parents to, to learn and be better, to be educated.
- 36:49Mm-hmm.
- 36:49Our parents came, and they were worker.
- 36:52They didn't have that, but they knew that y- education is the most important part.
- 36:57This is part of the Jewish people.
- 36:59Jewish people says, the, your mind, you can take your mind everywhere.
- 37:05So that, that it is.
- 37:07Okay, uh, Anna.
- 37:09thank you for the teachings on Sukkot.
- 37:11That was great.
- 37:13I, I, I was just, as I listened to Linda and to Julie, basically with the challenges of educating and the, the new generation being an incognitos of w- we kind of don't understand them.
- 37:31Just like in the'60s, maybe, the parents could not understand why kids like rock and roll, and now we all love rock and roll.
- 37:39And now we don't understand how they like rap.
- 37:42And just, you know- try to listen to it is one part.
- 37:47To listen to the kids is one part.
- 37:50And then set, and educate by example.
- 37:52That's what I think Linda was referring to.
- 37:57Amazing, her parents.
- 37:59I mean, doing Tzedakah not with money necessarily, but with time.
- 38:04Mm-hmm.
- 38:05I think that's, if we want any kind of control of this situation, that's the control we can try to have, is- Mm-hmm by setting the example.
- 38:15I really enjoyed this two phase, um, of the, the, the, the lecture.
- 38:22Now, I did not understand the seven bulls.
- 38:2670 or seven bulls?
- 38:28I didn't understand that.
- 38:29Eh.
- 38:30So if you can just clarify, please.
- 38:32I think that was 70, but, they in seven days of the week, they starve a whole group, and then they decrease every- Mm every day a- another one.
- 38:47Oh, okay.
- 38:47Uh, is they sacrifice those bull.
- 38:52Mm.
- 38:52And in representation of the other nation.
- 38:57So always Am Yisrael with the Torah is, uh, understand the responsibility with the whole world.
- 39:06We are responsible from the other nation.
- 39:11We have to be like a model of, that they will look at us.
- 39:16And actually, I found out, with, in through my life that when a non-Jew see a good Jew, they respect us.
- 39:28Mm-hmm.
- 39:28When they see a, a n- a Jew being different, so they don't respect us.
- 39:37Mm-hmm.
- 39:37And that is the origin of the hate.
- 39:40Mm-hmm.
- 39:41That is one of the reason of the antisemitism.
- 39:45Mm-hmm.
- 39:46Uh, we h- we have to be We are the, the example for all the nation.
- 39:54They're, they have a minister.
- 39:56We don't need a minister.
- 39:58We directly are connected with Hashem.
- 40:01So we have so many privileges, but we don't take them seriously.
- 40:09And, and what we have to teach our children is this love, this what really represent, to teach our children to share, to teach our children to give tzedakah, that they have to g- to be, not because of others.
- 40:30A, a child comes home and he say,"Oh, this one bully me." So it's, it's a difficult task.
- 40:38I, I don't say that it's easy.
- 40:41I know w- in, in my time was difficult too.
- 40:46So I know the new mothers, the new young mothers, that they are going through.
- 40:52But- Very difficult yeah, but this is our message.
- 40:56Mm-hmm.
- 40:57our message is that, and, and to create that love- Right with the children.
- 41:04And, and when like a, he's a, a child, he is, he's very upset, what we have to do, the first thing, is not to be upset back to the child.
- 41:16It's to embrace the child.
- 41:18Right.
- 41:20Because he probably, he only reacts, and he doesn't know what, why he's getting angry.
- 41:27So when I hug him and I show- Right that I love him- no matter what, then the child calm down, and appreciate you in a different way Well, the thing, if you really think about it, and if you...
- 41:45We are representative of God's hands, of God's lips, all His bo- all the body parts He doesn't have, right?
- 41:53So in those moments, we have to think,"How can I use my hands that God, the way God would use His hands?" Mm-hmm.
- 42:01And I really have been focusing so much on the 13 principles of mercy.
- 42:07Exactly.
- 42:07And the...
- 42:08And I think that's really powerful.
- 42:10It's like, okay, now you bring the other element in, and you say about the hands and the lips, and that is- Mm God doesn't have that.
- 42:18We have that to represent God.
- 42:21Mm.
- 42:21So in those moments, as hard as it is, it's like, how am I to represent God?
- 42:28Mm-hmm.
- 42:28And it's not...
- 42:29God's not screaming at the child.
- 42:32You know?
- 42:33God's not losing his patience with the child.
- 42:35God is slow to anger.
- 42:37Right.
- 42:38So let's stop for a moment, pause.
- 42:42How is God gonna res- how would God respond in this situation?
- 42:46I have to represent God.
- 42:48It's not- Mm-hmm it's not easy.
- 42:51But if we could just pause in those moments and think,"How would God approach this poor child that's suffering right now?" Exactly.
- 43:01And Muna Tova, as a teacher of many children for many years- what do you have to say?
- 43:09Well, like Julie, this past, uh, the last few weeks, you know, or the last, uh...
- 43:17I've been focusing on God's 13 attributes of mercy.
- 43:22But right before Yom Kippur, there was someone, um, who was not going to fast, and I got a little annoyed.
- 43:32It's like, how can you know that everyone else is fasting, I mean, and not for medical reasons this person was.
- 43:40You know, how can you do that?
- 43:43So yes, although Hashem has attributes of mercy, at some point he does lose his patience, I think, you know?
- 43:50But, um, but then with Sukkot, you know, you have the four types of Jews, and the ones who does mitzvahs, and the, and the, and the focusing on the one that doesn't do mitzvahs, and doesn't, you know, the one that does nothing.
- 44:08Um, yet all Jews are grouped together and become one.
- 44:14Mm.
- 44:14So that unity.
- 44:15So do we, we either all lift each other up, or we all bring each other down, and do we not worry about what, who's not doing what they're not supposed to be doing?
- 44:27That's a good question.
- 44:28You know, let's, do we just focus on ourselves?
- 44:31You are talking of judgmental.
- 44:33Mm-hmm.
- 44:35Okay.
- 44:35Mm-hmm.
- 44:35And we cannot be judgmental.
- 44:37Right.
- 44:38Exactly.
- 44:38You, we are teachers If you can open and, and the other person can be a recipient of what you say, fine.
- 44:52Mm-hmm.
- 44:53But when we judge someone, we are making the other person, the negative traits that they have, stronger.
- 45:06So if you love your fellow Jew, you cannot say that a fellow Jew is behaving bad.
- 45:15Yeah, so do you just close your eyes at that point and say- If you cannot teach them, if you cannot come and they will not listen to you- Mm-hmm and you know that they won't listen, why to create a, a, uh, a, a friction?
- 45:33It's better to be where the- Yeah, you don't want to say anything.
- 45:36You definitely don't want to say anything if they're not going to- No, to the contrary, you want to attract that person.
- 45:41Listen to that all day.
- 45:42This is what we learn in Chabad.
- 45:44Wow.
- 45:45In Chabad.
- 45:46Huh?
- 45:46In the, in the synagogue.
- 45:48Wow.
- 45:49In the- No, what we're, I was saying that we cannot judge.
- 45:54Yeah.
- 45:54That's it.
- 45:56And when we judge negatively someone, you are enforcing the negative trait of that person.
- 46:05So if- Now, that's interesting.
- 46:06Now, how does- Yes.
- 46:08For example, you are looking a woman that is not well-dressed.
- 46:13Okay?
- 46:14And she doesn't care.
- 46:17Wow.
- 46:17She has, Different levels so when you are, in your mind, seeing her in this way, you are, y- we have energy that comes from our eyes.
- 46:30Mm-hmm.
- 46:31Correct?
- 46:32You have energy.
- 46:33There is vibration that comes from our eyes.
- 46:37So that are enforcing her nega- negativist, uh, behavior.
- 46:45To the contrary, if we smile to her, let's say this case, and I smile and I don't think negative about her.
- 46:54To the contrary, I accept her.
- 46:56This is her way to be.
- 46:58I, I don't know what is behind in her mind, and I, I'm sure that she has many good things in, as a, a, a good, uh, other- Interesting wonderful things that she does.
- 47:08Right.
- 47:08So, I, I, I, I think in a positive way about that person.
- 47:14Instead of thinking in a negative way.
- 47:17That is the point.
- 47:17It's very important- So you, you change your thoughts to positive ones.
- 47:20Exactly.
- 47:21And i- this is very important because when we judge someone, as, the, the, the malachim, the angels, are going to judge us, because we are not perfect either, correct?
- 47:35That's right.
- 47:35We are not perfect.
- 47:36Probably I dress better than, than this lady, but doesn't mean that I am better than her.
- 47:43Right.
- 47:43And also I show lack of humility, of bitul, of I am, this is my ego.
- 47:51Ego, right.
- 47:53So I want to remove my ego So that, that is, is very important to think like that.
- 47:59Anita Are you ready to talk?
- 48:02Yes.
- 48:03Okay.
- 48:03I am ready.
- 48:04Thank you.
- 48:05Okay.
- 48:05well, when I think of Teshuvah- I think of my parents and my grandparents, and I think of the lessons they taught me.
- 48:15I think of, Mm-hmm the words they said, but not even so much the words s- they said, but the examples they gave in life.
- 48:29Mm-hmm.
- 48:29And at that time, I'm sure I processed them.
- 48:36I heard them, I saw them, I felt them.
- 48:39Um, I was involved with them.
- 48:42Um, and then I might not have done them as a young, a young person, but as I became older, those lessons returned to me.
- 48:56Mm-hmm.
- 48:57And, they became more and more important to me.
- 49:01And, and, and certainly as I, I've gotten older, they became, they have become more incorporated into my life.
- 49:11And, my, my parents and, grandparents were, came from v- very, very, Orthodox, beginnings, and not with a lot of money, but they gave constantly what they, what they could give.
- 49:34Even if it was an envelope with$5 in it, they, they gave.
- 49:41And, and, and those lessons, were so important to me that I took those lessons to my children, and my children are taking them, those lessons to their children.
- 49:57And I think, I think, I, I think that, that Elul and, and, and Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and, and Sukkot, that's, that's what these holidays are all about.
- 50:13To, to keep, to keep this all in mind.
- 50:17And, and even if we keep it in the back of our heads, as young children, if we teach them well, they are going to come forward eventually.
- 50:29That's right.
- 50:30That's right.
- 50:31This is the, this is the process by analogy, by, uh, re- repeating their, their example.
- 50:40Dr.
- 50:41Youn, a good Chol HaMoed.
- 50:45How are you, Dr.
- 50:46Youn?
- 50:48Actually, I have to leave, but, just a quick comment.
- 50:51Just the, the power of a tzedakah of, of their time.
- 50:55it just, as Linda mentioned at the beginning and also Anita mentioned, in the giving tzedakah, by kind of money is one thing, but also when someone brings themselves, their presence to somewhere, they're bringing their, like, their soul and their- Yep.
- 51:16It's like, it is, Yeah it is just, like, an amazing to think, how precious that is that someone actually show to do the charity work or mitzvah, and their actually physical presence, the physical body is there to do good things, and their neshamah being present, versus we give out something to help, which is also important.
- 51:43So, uh, it just reminded me that how powerful that is.
- 51:47Also, I gotta go, but I was wondering actually how it's related to the Megillah Kohelet with the Sukkot.
- 51:56That was my question.
- 51:58What was the question?
- 52:00The, yeah, the Megillah, Kohelet.
- 52:03Yes.
- 52:04is also read in during Sukkot, and, how it's related to the reading with this holiday.
- 52:12I am not familiar.
- 52:14yes, I know that, but I didn't read l- lately.
- 52:17I don't know exactly what is written in, in that Megillah.
- 52:21Hmm.
- 52:21We, we can read about it next time.
- 52:23Thank you so much, for- Okay.
- 52:25Okay, yeah.
- 52:25Uh- Excellent okay, Yun.
- 52:27Thank you so much.
- 52:28Thank you.
- 52:29Have a wonderful day.
- 52:30Happy Sukkot.
- 52:32Thanks.
- 52:33uh, Renee?
- 52:35I would like to defer to Natalie and her beautiful daughter-in-law.
- 52:41So I'll let them speak, and I'll just go last.
- 52:45Okay, Natalie.
- 52:46Oh- I was just about to say- Oh, yes, but I d- uh, I would like to- I would, I- uh, speak to your, your daughter-in-law.
- 52:54Let g- let's give the- I, I was just about to say, I'm deferring to Dana.
- 52:58Natalie.
- 53:00Thanks, Renee.
- 53:00You set me up.
- 53:03I was, I, I was really taken by everything you said.
- 53:05I actually woke up to your words this morning, which was so beautiful.
- 53:09I heard her learning, so I woke up and I was like,"Wow, this is amazing.
- 53:12Okay, I'm gonna come join." Um, I...
- 53:16You were speaking about the vibrations, and I never heard that concept before with, the specie, w- with, the lulav and esrog and shaking it, and then also the vibrations through your eyes when you're in, thinking about someone negatively or maybe positively.
- 53:30where can I learn more about that concept?
- 53:33Because I've, I never came across it, and it's fascinating to me that the energies like that, you know, are part of all of this, especially with sukkahs, like shaking it.
- 53:45I never thought of it like that, that it's like that you're setting off vibrations in different directions.
- 53:50Everything, everything is, everything is energy.
- 53:52Mm-hmm.
- 53:52We are a battery of energy.
- 53:55We have, right, uh, Linda?
- 53:58We are energy.
- 54:00Our mitochondria is energy.
- 54:03And so, we vibrate.
- 54:06Everything vibrate in the world.
- 54:09everything has movement, even the solid.
- 54:13A rock can have, has vibration.
- 54:17The only thing that is a slow vibration.
- 54:21And higher vibration.
- 54:23When a person is negative, has a slow vibration.
- 54:27When a person is positive, has a high level of vibration.
- 54:32But a beautiful rock, couldn't a beautiful rock have a higher vibration just because it's beauty and it draws you in?
- 54:41You know, so I, I, I, I think isn't that a possibility?
- 54:46Could be, yes, because, also it's a reflection of your thought and reflection of your own eyes that looks to the, uh, beautiful colors of this, rock.
- 54:59Like a, with all those semi-precious, stones, that they have a vibration.
- 55:06And, and the truth here is in the plate of the Kohen Gadol.
- 55:11The plate of the Kohen Gadel- Gadol, he has 12 precious, stones.
- 55:18Mm-hmm.
- 55:19And how he was able to give an answer, the Kohanim, the high priest that used to have the, the plate, the breastplate, to see the stones and to find a solution to a problem that the people had.
- 55:37And that was the solution.
- 55:39It is very well known that all those, stones, they have an energy.
- 55:47The quartz is also have an energy.
- 55:51When you like a stone, like Linda is saying, you have an attraction at the stone because the stone wants to, reflect something to you.
- 56:01Is two ways, no one way.
- 56:05Everything is two ways.
- 56:08The same, You have, personally, you have a beautiful smile., And you are bringing energy.
- 56:15Even your eyes shine different.
- 56:19You, you know, though, I, I sometimes perceive, you know, I perceive people's energy, you know?
- 56:26Mm-hmm.
- 56:26And, and, and so it either draws me in, and upon occasion it's kinda like it, I, I'm repelled a bit by it, you know?
- 56:35And, and- Mm-hmm and I think that we're all, you know, that's kind of the, the law of attraction is really related to energy, and how we are drawn into someone.
- 56:48Exactly.
- 56:50Yeah.
- 56:51And, and that repeats in everything.
- 56:55So when you take the four minim, you are bringing that energy of what means each of those species.
- 57:07Because the myrtle has a, the property that every leaf le- let the sun to penetrate.
- 57:21They are set in such a way that they are like a group that shares.
- 57:28We are sharing together.
- 57:30So everything is symbolic.
- 57:33Not by, by coincidence they took those Arba Minim.
- 57:38One means that you, the, the, the lulav express, and we give the mi- the, the when we say the blessing, we, we say the blessing in the lulav.
- 57:50You don't say the blessing on the etrog.
- 57:53Mm.
- 57:54So, and the lulav represent that, you a stature.
- 58:00Your, you, i- we have to be, nullify, but we have an stature.
- 58:06You have a value, and your value is very important So that is, is the meaning of our, our spine.
- 58:18Is the spine that keep, uh, us straight up.
- 58:25So, and we are straight up, where we see in front.
- 58:30So ev- everything is very im- is important, and you don't ima- you don't know how Kabbalah is, speak about so many things that, m- that are, about healing.
- 58:46Mm.
- 58:46about they knew, those Kabbalists, those sages, so much, and that is astronomy, mathematics, everything is there.
- 58:59They were big mathematics.
- 59:04So when you shake it, it's, vibrating all the way up to the, to the spheroes?
- 59:08Yes.
- 59:09Or, yeah.
- 59:10Yes, even to the cosmos.
- 59:12Wow.
- 59:12Because the cosmos, th- this is the aboda of, Rene, of the Kohanim.
- 59:19That's why in every holidays, we, we have the blessing of the Kohanim.
- 59:26Okay, Rabbi Alush, he does the blessing of the Kohanim every Shabbat, because he, he grew in, in Yerushalayim, and he, in Yerushalayim, you do the, blessing of the Kohanim everywhere.
- 59:40So, and there is other places where they do the blessing of the Kohanim, even in Shabbat.
- 59:46Every Shabbat they do it.
- 59:48And that blessing is, what is the function of the Kohen is to, to bring in the positive and to reject the negative.
- 1:00:00To bring in the positive energy and the positive vibration, and rejects the negative.
- 1:00:07In many other things, it's, it's a whole class to speak about the, the blessing of the Kohanim.
- 1:00:14And- So shall we all make ourselves a vessel for positivity and goodness in this world.
- 1:00:19Exactly.
- 1:00:20Exactly.
- 1:00:21Renee, you want to say something?
- 1:00:24I was just gonna comment on your, theme of unity.
- 1:00:28Because with all the years of classes, that's not been a comment, I don't think, that we've talked about, yet the word unity does, as you pointed out, and even deeper, sum up everything.
- 1:00:44And I thought,"Wow, what, what brilliance to use the word unity," because it, it does take into account every aspect of the planning for the Chagim, the Chagim, the energy, the shaking, everything.
- 1:01:03Yes.
- 1:01:03The Torahs, carrying the Torahs.
- 1:01:06Um, I just loved- Yeah how you pointed that out.
- 1:01:09It was perfect.
- 1:01:10I think that I, I used to mention this very often.
- 1:01:14Always I say, Shema Yisrael Hashem Elokeinu Hashem Echad.
- 1:01:18You have talked about unity.
- 1:01:19That, that's true.
- 1:01:21But in terms of the holidays, the Chagim- Ah sequence, I thought that was a brilliant application of it.
- 1:01:29Yes.
- 1:01:29Exactly.
- 1:01:30Exactly.
