- Brothers in the Box: Welcome back everyone to the podcast. I'm Eshaan here with Elias. Give us a little more energy. Absolutely not bro. You know I'm not giving any energy because I have to go back to school tomorrow. Let me guess, you did nothing. No, that's not true. For all high school students, have to complete a capstone project and a presentation. It's still not done, but it's going to be done by tomorrow. Okay, but from what you were telling me while we were creating the show notes, your friend did everything. So you tell me, what's the truth? you do all the work? No, no, so we had a prior agreement where he would do all of it and then he would send it to me and then obviously there's some portions where it's like self reflection and I can do that but then also like he did at 1 a.m. so it's not like to the best that it needs to be. Okay. So I still need to fix it up a little bit. And the question really is now Are you gonna fix it? think I need to. It's only gonna take like 30 minutes though. But also probably some of the most disappointing news I've got today. Actually, no, not disappointing, just disappointing feeling. The feeling I'm talking about is me, Elias, or actually just me for the longest time, I've been a huge fan of fast food restaurants in the US. been so much hype around them and you know there's always been like times where I wanted to go try them and you know when we went down to Seattle for the first time we tried Dave's and we tried Shake Shack and both honestly I like Dave's more. disappoint. I think Shake Shack was a little bit um it was a little greasy a little bit greasy but I think I think Dave's I really liked and I was not disappointed at all and then a Raising Canes opened in Seattle and Um, we're both lucky enough to try it and we give a little review. Yeah. I should. Yeah. So Ishan, what was your number? Honestly, on second thought, I think it should be lower, but, the reason it's so high is because of the sauce. And you know, a lot of people say that the sauce is like the main thing and it really is. but my, my rating was 7.3 out of 10. And I just think. Like I really, think what the two things that brought it over were a sauce. Honestly, I thought it was really good. was a little bit disappointed, underwhelmed a little bit because of like how much hype there is around it, but also the toast. was not expecting how good the toast was going to be. And you know, obviously you said, ⁓ the chicken was a little bit juicier when you had it for the first time. brought it back for Ishan. He, he didn't get the trap fresh, unfortunately, but My rating was a 6.7, a 6.7 if you will. And you know, to give you ⁓ a right now, the chicken is okay. The sauce ⁓ is I'm waiting for it to be great. The toast, I think is the main star, to be honest. Because that was, it was phenomenal. The fries are They're better. ⁓ after we had air fried them again, they're, they're crispy, but all in all, something that I need to go back for. Yeah. I think I'd maybe like, you know, maybe it'd be that one-off thing where I go to have it like once. I'm not saying, I'm not saying, ⁓ I need to go to Canes. Yeah, exactly. Like, like there's not like a, ⁓ I'm going to Seattle, I'm not going for Canes. going for Dave's. ⁓ a hundred percent. Like ⁓ I go back to like, when we go back to Seattle, Want to go get days. I'm not I'm not eager to go get raising and hopefully there is a trip loading early July Hopefully days are in town But yeah, well I Think Dave's will will be a prime target. Absolutely. I mean those are honest reviews I think you know, there's a lot of hype around raising canes definitely the one thing I will say you you can say that raising canes is good Raising is is not so good. The one thing I will say is it's severely overhyped Yeah, the only thing, the only thing I really want to try is we didn't get to do this obviously, cause it's such a waste, but I've seen a bunch of people take like a full bucket of like, like a cup of sauce and like dip their full tender in there. That's the only thing I want to try before I'm completely done with this. But yeah, for now, my rating is sticking. I don't understand you sometimes. It just it just looks appetizing one day i'm gonna have to carry on brothers in the box without you because your arteries are gonna be clogged dip the whole thing Have you not seen the videos on tiktok where people have dipped the whole thing into it? No, no, no, i'm not not on clogged artery talk My ⁓ my entire feed on tiktok is usually just food so No, let's get back to the let's get back to the hockey. Yeah. so first we'll talk about the oilers. I think, you know, two amazing wins in the Pacific. you know, I think I really liked both wins. yeah, I think the ducks win was a very confident win, you know, obviously. think the only thing I didn't like is ⁓ we, let back into the game so easily in that third period. we were confident in the first two and then As soon as they scored that one little, like that nasty tip from Seneke, ⁓ Bennett Seneke. ⁓ he's a rookie. He's really good. He's fire. Yeah. He's ⁓ one two points away from Matthew Schaeffer. But yeah, he had a nasty tip. Donald Nersh was a pylon as usual, couldn't do anything. And then, you another goal got let in, I believe it was Mikael Grandlin that scored. But yeah, I just don't like how they played. But I think, the third period collapse was a little bit much, but they closed it out with a nice little empty net from Hymen. But all in all, I liked playing that game. But I did really, really like the Vegas win that they had. It felt like a playoff game. It did. Really nitty gritty stuff. was it? ⁓ Kudoguchi had that second goal. Kudoguchi, okay. you as we've said ⁓ in last couple episodes, Ingram is that guy and he's shown that he can be that guy going down the stretch when he a good defense in front of him. Yeah, and I think what I liked about the Vegas game the penalty kill. I think, you know, obviously the game was back and forth, like the Orders would score, Vegas would score, the Orders would score, Vegas would score, the Orders would score, Vegas would score. But the penalty kill was solid, especially in that, I think it went 100%, I don't think they let in the power play goal. yeah, the OT penalty It was indeed 100%. They were also 100 % though. Obviously you don't have dry side also. Yeah, the power play has been lacking as of recent, but the OT penalty kill that we had, that single-handedly helped us win the game. Their entire forward group was so tired. Like, Jarkal Kill had been playing for like three minutes. So none of them could be there to play defense. Just something to note really quick. The Anaheim game, they also won 100%. Yeah, so those pieces that Stan Bowman added for the penalty kill had been working. And you know, like I feel like, know, moving on to like our honorable mentions as a recent like Jason Dickinson has found his place in the team you know, a that's, know, going to move the puck, who's also going to play ⁓ really, big penalty kill minutes. And so far I've been liking how they're playing. ⁓ then Connor Murphy has just been absolutely stellar with blocking shots. And I think he's kind of settled down nurse. Yeah, I think there's been, there's been times where I've seen Murphy get a little bit out of place. he took a penalty I believe it was in the Anaheim game, which, know, Mikael Grandlin walked him and then, you know, he swept his legs. But, you know, like obviously, you know, sometimes you need to take those types of penalties, but I really like this play. And I think him and Nurse, like sometimes I'm a little bit uneasy, but it's a lot less uneasy than I was with Nurse and CC. So. Yeah, no, a hundred percent. And I feel because Murphy is a little bit more defensively sound. You're able to trust him a little bit more. Whereas, you know, nurse will sometimes jump ship and kind of jump up on the rush, even when maybe it's not the best time or pinch at, at inopportune times. And Murphy is going to be there. To be that defensive defense. Exactly. Yeah. Exactly. but two other players that have been playing ⁓ really well for the Oilers. One Roslavik. He's been... The reason that I've been liking him so much is he's... He's kind of like a McDavid type of player. He brings the puck into the zone. He can create space and find that open man. But honestly, I've been really, really like how he's playing. It's as simple as that. He not be scoring the same amount of points as some of other guys, but ⁓ he's looking really nice. And then the last player He's a rookie He's doing better than Ilias is rookie because he's my rookie Savoy He's been on a tear as a recent he's been scoring points scoring goals But yeah, he's been working really well with McDavid and I see that as a permanent thing going into the playoffs ⁓ I see that changing anytime soon. I mean, you know as a recent the lines have been looking really good And I think the only real question is where does dry saddle fit back into the lines? Yeah. I mean, you look at that top line and it is Savoy pods. And then you have ⁓ Hyman Roslavik. So I switch up in the lines, but I'm assuming that pods, maybe, maybe keep Nudge with Hyman and Roslavik together. And then you, you slot. I don't know who you slot up on the right wing with McDavid, but maybe you put Podz and Kaepernick with Drysettel? I don't know, think you try and keep Podz and Savoy together. You don't even think, and then who goes with Drysettel? Because I think I to Nugent on his whole line. You put Roslavik and Hyman with Drysettel. With Drysettel. Or you could put like a Samanski, Kaepernick, Drysettel. Yeah, And you move Hyman and Radzlowicz down to the third line. Yeah, it would be an interesting like see what- Because Kabanin's played well with Dry Settle in the past. Yeah, think yeah, And I'm sure that Szymanski will have, you know, the German, the German, uh, chemistry with Dry Settle. And then you move Dickinson down and then you put Adam Henrico where he belongs in the press box. Yeah, I think, um, What Dry Ceno works really well with is having a guy that can hit and a guy that's fast. And I think, know, like Captain and Pods like brought that mentality with him. And I think Samanski could do the same thing with Pods. He just has to, you know, his hitting game a little bit. Exactly. I've liked the lines. I know it's a little bit of a switch up with Hyman not playing with McDavid. Usually that's like a one, two punch automatic. And then maybe, you know, maybe you bring up Isaac from the miners. take Max Jones's place. Max Jones has not been bad though. He's been good and then Curtis Lazar has also been playing, he played well in the Anaheim game. But I'm liking what the Oilers are doing right now. I don't want them to switch it up too much, but... ⁓ Yeah, ⁓ big the stretch for the Oilers. Three points out from the Ducks. The Ducks have a game in hand, so technically three and a half points away from the Ducks. Vegas were three points clear, same amount of games played. mean, you said it yourself. They're looking in good position. They need to keep doing what they've been doing. And it starts with, know, a meaningful win on Tuesday against Seattle at home. Yeah. Eight games to go. Not too much time left. You know what's crazy? I don't know if we've talked about this before, but I believe it's the day after or the day of that I finished school, the playoffs start. Yeah. It's horrible. Cause I need to study for exams. Well, you just got to get up early and you got to grind. Yeah. Or I can just watch NHL. Yeah. And then fail your IB exam. I don't know, buddy. but yeah. Like, I'm very excited. I'm very excited to it. Especially with Dry Saddle coming back. This team is looking more... scary than I thought it was going to be coming playoffs. don't want to say it, but I'm getting a little bit more hope, but ⁓ still don't know what's going to happen. ⁓ fair. Other Pacific news, big Pacific news, Bruce Cassidy was fired today. For those you who don't know who that is, that is the Vegas Golden Knights head coach. He's very well respected around the league. It was an insane move on my In my point of view, in my opinion. think, yeah, honestly, like I was not expecting it. No, no, no. Far out of left field. John Tortorella was hired as his interim replacement for the eight remaining games of the regular season and then the playoffs. And then the Knights management will reevaluate where he will sit within the organization if they're going to keep him for next season. If they're not. The thing with Tortorella for me is that he's a, he's a wild card. He was in Philly. didn't really mesh with younger guys in Philly. They don't have a lot of young guys in Vegas. He's in ⁓ and and he has some interesting approaches as a coach, I will say. He knows how get guys motivated. He was coaching for the US team at the Olympics in four He's a well-respected coach, I think. We'll see what he can do. I don't think that this coaching change is going to do what I think management wants it to do. But I, if I'm being completely honest, like I like Torch kind of like, ⁓ he gives me, he gives me Vegas. ⁓ yeah. hundred percent. gives me Vegas is like a team that's nitty and gritty and he gives me those vibes where he's like, yeah, four check hits. Like do all those. Like things that a hard working team will do when you're going to go for it. And that's what Vegas is. And then your skilled guys can do the rest. it's still kind of crazy that 74 games in. It is. is. But I guess we'll see down the stretch, know, eight games left. They're in a tight race with the Oilers. I'm thinking, you know, nothing's set in stone right now, but an Oilers Vegas first round would be amazing. would feed families. It would be very good. If we can finish top of the vision, that's... That's better. I don't know who would you want to play more? Would you want to play Vegas more? Would you want to play Utah? I think or Nashville possibly. ⁓ will cook up against Nashville, especially if drives back. Yeah. I mean, Dry did get injured against Nashville. So right now it's Utah or Nashville. I don't think I want to play Utah. Yeah. Utah is a little bit of a scary team. They're a little bit of a wild card. Also the Kings are knocking at the door. Yeah, four points back. ⁓ of the, the, ⁓ the wild card, wild card. Yeah. any team, any team that gets the last wild card spot is losing. So probably, you know, if, if we see ⁓ sudden fall off from, from ⁓ ⁓ takes number one spot, we get five years in a row. ⁓ someway. The hell is going to make it happen just for the continuation. To honest, if we're looking at it, the Kings have a pretty easy schedule ⁓ down stretch. They have St. Louis, then they have Nashville, then Toronto, then Nashville again, then Vancouver, Edmonton, Seattle, Vancouver, and Calgary. They can beat the two Vancouver teams. Calgary is an easy win. Toronto is an easy win, St. Louis is an easy win, and I think they could split with Nashville. like, have at least 10 points in them minimum, know? So it's a possibility, especially with it being co-pros last year. think that the team will try and get them back in the playoffs and try and give them a chance to win because you know, if you make the playoffs, you have a shot. ⁓ And know, the only that I want to talk about before we... ⁓ We finished talking about the playoffs. The Panthers, I don't think are gonna make it. They're not making it. The back-to-back champs are not gonna make it this year. They're below the Leafs, which I didn't think that was possible. They only have 73 points. They're on a three-game losing streak. Four and six in their last ten. 35, 35 and three. They're just not... They're not looking good. They're in a rough division, obviously. does this, but does this tell you how important your captain is or, is it the structure that Maurice has gotten them to play that has tired them out and has caused an inability for them to finish games or a little bit of both, or, ⁓ I'll you one more option. it that. their goalie and their goaltending in Sergei Barovsky is no longer what it used to be and he can't keep them in tight games because just unfortunately does not have it anymore. for me, I think all three. Okay. I think for ⁓ your first think, know, Barkov being out, especially like you saw with Team Finland, like with Barkov being out, like That's a key leader in your locker room and on the ice that's going to be doing work. like the thing with having a captain is like what someone like Barkov or McDavid or like Roman Yoshi, like all those captains that can score goals and can make plays happen while also being a leader are captains that don't come every now and then. Like you look at Sydney Crosby, you look at Ovi. But yeah, that's, that's the, I think that was one of the main things. And then obviously, you know, going to back to back Stanley Cup finals, both going to very far games, seven and six, is tiring and you know, it's showing on the Weathers as well. Yeah, for sure. And you know, especially with Maurice, you know, he's a similar coaching style to, who is the Knucks old coach? The bald one? Rick? Yeah. Rick Tauke. Rick Tauke. I think, you know, those coaches are ones that will push you as much as possible. And I think, you know, that's, it's a tiring game and obviously they have a four check game that they play a lot, which, know, tires you out even more. And then, you know, obviously, what was your last point? Barovsky. Yeah. Barovsky. I think it was stupid that they didn't stick with Spencer Knight and forced like, traded Barovsky when they could. now it's showing and I Bobrovsky has always been a goalie that steps up in the steps up in the playoffs. Yeah. and you he's never been a regular season guy. ⁓ And if was a of years ago, but not anymore. but now like, you the reason that the Panthers made the playoffs, cause they get out score their opponents. and they can't do that right now. no, I completely agree with that. It you know, it's an you know, I really wanted to beat the Panthers I did But also a little bit of relief You know the fact that they're not gonna be in the playoffs. It's gonna have to be another Florida team ⁓ a different Florida is that team is looking even scary. It is looking very scary. It was looking very scary for sure No, some some kind of upsetting news I would sure coming out of Vancouver just last week earlier this week was the fact that the Aqualini family has now ⁓ involved in an ongoing case in Washington state ⁓ which ⁓ farm labor contractor Harvest Plus of forging guest worker visa applications. And so basically happened is this Harvest Plus recruited migrant workers from Mexico ⁓ so basically what happened is this Harvest Plus recruited migrant workers from Mexico ⁓ luring them under false pretenses that they would provide good pay and good working conditions. And then once the workers arrived, they found themselves in poor conditions and the fact that they weren't even working at the farms that were listed on their visa applications, but instead they were working at at Aqualini Vineyards in Benton City in Washington. luring them under false pretenses that they would be allowed to or that they would provide good pay and good working conditions. And then once the workers arrived, they found themselves in poor conditions and the fact that they weren't even working at the farms that were listed on their visa applications, but instead they were working at at Aqualini Vineyards in Benton City in Washington. So the The prosecutors in the case stated that the workers were not paid the agreed upon minimum wage price of $17.41 an hour. Their actual pay wasn't reported in the case, but workers were charged for food and housing according to court documents, something that's prohibited under the H2A program, which is the type of guest worker visa that they were on. So really upsetting news. Maybe good news for Vancouver fans because maybe this kind of lands Aqualini, ⁓ family, in a not so good position and they end up selling the team. But a ⁓ horrible for these people who were brought up the States and then their human rights were blatantly ignored and You know, I don't know what the right word is, but it's just like, it's crazy that so many people can get away with stuff like this. like, even like the fact that this even happened is insane. know, like just looking at like, like obviously, you know, having money brings you a sense of power and like, like, you know, you have control over a lot of things and you know, like what you do with it is very important. like these people. clearly not doing the right thing. Yeah, this is just wrong. Yeah, it's just wrong. Yeah. So we hope that the people who were working for this, for this farm and for the vineyard get the justice that they deserve. I mean, it's just unfortunate, you know, like all these people deserve like they're all looking for opportunities. And this is an opportunity that they thought would be good for them. Yeah. And so we decided to take advantage of that and that searching for a better opportunity. ⁓ Um, to close out our podcast episode for this week, let's talk about the Mark madness. Final four. We finished, we finished the round of 64. We finished the round of 32. This is not the final four I was expecting. We finished the elite eight and now we are at the final four today. Huge upset. I would say yes. Uh, with Duke, uh, winning or sorry, not winning. My bad, I misspoke. I was just still on the fact that Duke would have won, but Duke lost. Walk of Three. Yeah, just... Braylon Mullins. Absolutely Absolutely insane. think they were losing right ⁓ towards end of the game. they off the the crazy, you know? and were able to... They were down by 19 at the half. That's insane. And... Just what a collapse. Yeah. What a collapse. Crazy shot he made. Yeah. To send them to the next, to the final four. The Boozer twins couldn't get it done. They could not get it done. And Duke... Did they win last year? Honestly, I don't remember I remember it being like a filled with like just like the the favorites winning all the time Yeah, it was rain No, ⁓ thought they got ups maybe don't know. no way Cooper flag wanna They did not know Houston one. ⁓ no, Florida Florida ⁓ Florida against you. Yes the Gators. Yeah, Houston upset Duke. Yes. I Remember was it was the that's on the rockets right now. I'm pretty sure that hit a three. Zay- who? The white kid. ⁓ white shooter. What a name. I believe it was him, but I don't remember for sure. El Yuzhan. Maybe. Kriar. Maybe I'm thinking about the... Emmanuel Sharp. That sounds familiar. Okay, well anyways. I don't know. Anyways. Duke upset again before. They didn't make it as far as the Final Four this year. And they were probably the favorite to win. You know? And then Illinois almost got upset by Iowa the other day. Arizona I don't know too much about, but then Tennessee lost to Michigan. And we have our final four. It's kind of weird the spacing, you know, between the, the sweet 16, the elite eight and the final four games in the final pushes it into April. think, I think the person I was thinking about played the year before that. in 2024, was Reed Shepard. He played, he played at Kentucky, but he's on, yeah, that's on the Rockets now. Yeah. Do you want to give me a, now that we have, uh, The final four who's coming out of it? I think I think ⁓ Michigan is gonna be a good game. I think it's gonna be close but I see Arizona winning And I also see you con winning and then you can't going all the way Yukon goes all the way. I don't I don't want wow. I don't want Illinois to win Wow Whoa, okay, because I think for the women's side. Yeah. That Yukon's going all the way. Yeah. Because AzFud, if you're not familiar with her game, get familiar because she's a stud. She's like, I watched her last Monday. It was this sweet 16, I think around a 32. Yeah. Drop 37. God damn Yeah. I was like, what? was like, what? No, she, she, she knows how to handle a rock. I think... We ride Michigan. Michigan? We ride Michigan. And then who comes, who's playing them, Illinois or Yukon? I think Yukon. Yeah. They'll ride that hot hand of coming out and upsetting Duke. Yeah. Well, we'll see. We'll see when's the game. 4th? Yeah. It's very far. Yeah, very far, yeah. A lot of time to prepare. Our players this week on a role mention. Pavel Zakha. I never thought he would even breathe a breath of air on our honorable mention or player of the week. Yeah, I'm not his biggest fan. But with five goals, three assists and four games played, we could not leave him off the list. very, very solid week from him. Yeah. And then someone that I am a very big fan of, ⁓ Gensel, four goals. There's no it was four goals in one hit. think that's... On our sheet it says... ⁓ Four goals in one night, and that is completely false. four goals, like one goal every single night. Okay, okay. Yeah. So yeah. no Kutrov as well. No Kutrov for the last two games. Okay, so that's important to Yeah, and I don't believe he plays on Kutrov's line. No, he doesn't. could be a power play goals and stuff, but he also had four assists, so it's not like he's not feeding the puck as well. I believe he had three points today. Yeah. So yeah, very solid in four games played. Yeah, baseball is back. Baseball back. Blue Jays are looking good. ⁓ Blue are looking very good. They play the Rockies tomorrow. Hockey is almost at the final stretch so enjoy that. And ⁓ March is around the corner. have, I guess, at the next episode, the release of the next episode, we'll have your championship preview for March Madness. So we hope you guys have a great week and we'll catch up with you next week.
