- 0:06[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, welcome to the YouTube podcast.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Connor Roar.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's Albert Brear and this, if you're watching on YouTube, is like a massive bruise on my head from Memorial Day weekend.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_01]: So, what happened right on the noggin?
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: Um, so this has happened a couple times now.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, I, that looks like a pimple that you picked because I've been there before and then like it turns into a gash
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, I've heard that.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: I've heard like the Gorbachev birthmark the old Yeah, I guess.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's going way back.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: That's not cool.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: But I have this issue where when we're with the kids in the pool, um, I'm hotdogging, right?
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: And so I'm trying to do flips off the diving board.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to do all sorts of, you know, crazy stuff.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: And so I feel like diving boards are
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: What pool were you at were you at so what the cabin where we have like a cabin and it's in a community that has a couple of pools and so this one Diving boards there if diamond boards there and the water.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I feel like you can't find diving boards anymore So this is a Pennsylvania insurance b-dammed, you know, it doesn't matter if you whack your head and have seen a few people do it
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: This one wasn't well, congratulations to that place because like some of my best memories of a childhood are in the summer who could do the craziest shit off a diving board and that's probably why they aren't anywhere anymore like
- 1:37[SPEAKER_00]: if you get you can't like if you go on vacation the hotel won't have it the hotel pool like and like a really nice hotel the hotel pool won't have a deep end which sucks I know you don't want to mean like and it's all because I think the moral of the story is probably that lawyers ruin everything right like but
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's like you don't have a deep end in a hotel pool and then pools, like if you go over to someone's house, the pool will have a deep end, but there will be no diving board, right?
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: And it used to be that every pool had a deep end and a diving board.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, good.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like going against the congratulations to wherever that is in Pennsylvania, way to stick to your guns.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'll get to what I have this gash in a second because it wasn't diving board related, but we're on the subject.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: I was in a competition in middle school once at the University of Colorado Boulder and they let us just swim for the day in the Olympic pool.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: They had an Olympic high dive that was like whatever it was with the 30 feet in the air.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, how high is an Olympic high dive?
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'll have to look it up.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: Missy legit Olympic high dive and we're in seventh grade and holy shit was that not the greatest well, we used to jump off bridges and so but they still do that right down here.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's a little bridge that they jump off of which I jump off of what my kids were just great.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's like you have to wait for high tide to come because they have to figure out when high tide we live right in the water.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_00]: So there's there's like a there's like a.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: River that goes through our town and there's a bridge that goes it's like a normal street and town And the kids have to find to figure out when high tide is and then whenever high tide is There's a ton of people there and like I've jumped off of my kids and it's great because you can't do that kind of thing anymore So yeah, yeah, we used to jump off a rock quarry in ours because it would fill with rainwater Yeah, you could jump off the hill and then but you're jumping into a pool of jagged rocks So there was always some complications with that anyone
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: I was at the pool and you always have to have you'd have to have one person in your group those experience with wherever you're jumping so you knew that and that you have to trust that person but or or there has been one position about jump before so you had to so you knew that like you be okay.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: Or the one guy that's like, that was my safety plan was that kid over there has jumped off this before so it must be okay.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of seems like a real straight shooter.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: Um, yeah, we're at the pool and I'm hot dog and I'm telling my kids I can hold my breath from one end of the pool to the other end of the pool.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: Cool.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: Watch dad do this and so like, but it's long.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's like,
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: it's almost 50 meters right here 50 yards or whatever it was right so i'm like cooking and the pool is like one of those like you know it's shaped different so there's like little conditions well it's like you know it's big right so there's all these like different bends and hooks and stuff like that and so in an effort to really start plow and through the water
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: I go dangerously off course and out of goggles on and I just I smashed my head into the wall like I to am straight into the wall got up with a little bit of a got up with a little bit of the spins and then I'm thinking to myself like this happens to NFL players 68 times.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, so there you got that was my Memorial Day.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_01]: How was yours?
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: It was fine.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: I had a youth soccer all three days, which was one of those that was like an hour away.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: So every day I'm going one hour, one way, one hour back for one game.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: So that was interesting.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: And it rained here all weekend too.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: We actually finally got,
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: A we got like a nice afternoon yesterday so like that we were able to salvage that like play the little wifful ball with the kids all across with the kids in the backyard, but like that was it nice.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we're catching everybody up because I'm guessing that you guys are like me and that, you know, I mean football never escapes us, but it's one of those things where it's good to catch up on the weekend here and and empty the empty the mail bag a little bit empty the news box the one thing that I guess
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm surprised to be honest Albert that this hasn't become more of an issue and it's almost like it was from 2016 to 2020 was an everyday issue and then I don't know if at least in the NFL we sort of tired of it or coaches did a better job of diffusing it or whatever it was.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_01]: But if you miss this Jackson Dart introduced our president at a
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: at a rally, I guess, or whatever in Rockland County, New York, and then Abdul Carter repose it basically saying, like, I thought this was AI of what's going on here, you know, serious, and then a lot of giants people waiting on it, mostly not on the side of Jackson Dart.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: And it really is, I mean, I'm just gonna save this.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: We are,
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: months ahead from an incredibly contentious midterm election that and then we're a year away from this guy possibly hosting the draft on the lawn of the White House, which like I still don't really can't get growl be on the White House will it or is the White House going to be incorporated into that because on the national mall
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't know, now I will say this, like he was involved, like Trump was involved with like the announcement, which I'd actually look this up.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: I thought this was sort of interesting.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: That was the first photo off that an NFL commissioner had done with a sitting president.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_00]: Since the NFL opener, I think it was 2003, and it was the Redskins and the Giants.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: And with Verneus Coles, and I can't remember who it was, but it was, it was the kickoff game was going to be in DC.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: And so the Verneus Coles and someone, and a giant's player maybe it was, I can't remember, but they did a photo off with George W. Bush.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: That was the last time.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: So it had been at that point 22 years since they had had a photo off with a sitting president.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: Josh Harris, the owner of the commanders, Roger Goodell, the commissioner, did do that photo up with Trump, which would at least indicate that maybe he'll be involved at some level on the drafts in 27.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: You can't, I mean, and again, this isn't like political commentary, but you can't imagine that this thing's going to be right in his backyard and that guy's not going to jump on it.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would say that.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: You know, probably pretty good bet that there's going to be some involvement there.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: And I look like, I mean, like, just kind of like where I stand on this, like I, I'll be honest, like I'm sort of it's it's weird, because I feel like I'm from the generation.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you are a Connor, because we're different generations, right?
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: But, uh, bye.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_00]: I'm from the generation where you didn't talk about politics and religion with people.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: And like now it feels like that's getting shoved in our face every minute of every day, because instead of avoiding the mass of reaction, people run towards the mass of reaction, and run towards all of that.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think Jackson Dark has every right to do what he did.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: don't mistake freedom of speech for freedom of consequences from your speech.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: Dude, that's exactly what I was going to say.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you don't, I mean, like you're allowed to like Jackson Dart is completely within his rights to get up there and stand up there as the quarterback in the New York Giants and tacitly endorsed the president of the United States of America.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: The same time that dual Carter is well within his rights to state his opposition to his
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: the consequences, the fallout from that in this day and age is what it is.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: And you have to deal with that.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: But if you're willing to deal with that, it's fine what either guy did.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_00]: Well, really bugged me about it, though.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: It's May.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_00]: like this idea that this was going to be like some sort of killer for the locker room and we have four months before they even play a game.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's like have we gotten to that point where these two guys could do those two things.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: And people think it could create a reputable harm to a football team, which is full of guys in their 20s.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like, are we at that point where we can't talk shit out?
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: I just, it bugged me because it was like, so you're assuming that these guys will never get along again.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: Why?
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: Because you wouldn't get along with somebody if they disagreed with you.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: That was what bugged me so much about it.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: Because it was like, I have,
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: I have my own political opinions, I don't have a strong political opinion.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: Is there some other people I have lots of friends from with different opinions in mind?
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: It does not prevent, they do not prevent me from being friends with them, they do not prevent me from having a good relationship with those people that doesn't prevent me from having conversations.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: They don't involve in politics with those people and I just think like it's
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: Things have gotten so toxic where it's like there's this assumption that those two actions, a 60 second introduction at a political rally, and then I think it was a nine word tweet are going to completely pull up someone's football season, you know.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_00]: I just it bugs me because like I just I feel like we can all disagree on certain things and work past those things and like I, but again, like I respect everybody's opinion on these things too.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not saying you're idiot if you view or not away.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think there was a good example of one of the places that I was at this weekend had this like, lawn games kind of thing, right?
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: And there was like a crowd, right?
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: And there was this dude cut off sleeves, red white and blue hat, and a shirt that says, I'm Ultramaga, FU, if you disagree, right?
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, I'm walking by and someone's like, hey, do you want to do like the lawn games thing?
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: And then I'm just looking over to like,
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: No, like no offense, but just like, you know, like that just doesn't seem like kind of where I want to go right now, but I'm sure everybody's great and having a good time that's what Jackson Dart is walking into now where it's like, you know, maybe a player walks by in the locker room and, you know, he's like he was going to say something that it's just like, no, I just don't think we're going to agree on that.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: And if you're the quarterback of a team, if you think that your responsibility is to have all 53 guys under one umbrella and to be that true heartbeat of the team, I do think that you made your job a little harder, you know, because just
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: But there's such a vehement opposition right in one way or another.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_01]: That said, I think this is a maturity thing.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: When I was Jackson Darts age or when I was the age of the average age of the Giants locker room 2016 came around and I'm just being honest and talking for myself.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: I made the mistake of cutting myself off from people who didn't believe the same thing as me and I took a long time repairing those relationships and I think it was a waste of time to be so adamantly against someone else who I think is just kind of understanding the world in a different way than I am.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_01]: Um, you know, but I think that's where it is where, you know, these guys are not as old as we are certainly not as old as you are Albert and it's like one of those things where, you know, you're very wise at this point, you're like a Buddhist, you're like a tree like you've soaked up all of life's energies in your six seconds and it's one of those things where you, you can see that now, uh, whereas I think a lot of these guys and especially is the rhetoric turns out.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: heading into midterms.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's one of those things where it doesn't become a mine field, doesn't become one of those things where parents are like, well, I don't want to buy that guy's jersey.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know the answer to that.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think generationally again, I think I can include you on this one is that we grew up with like the athlete that was non offensive.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: You know, didn't offend anyone and I'm not saying like that anything anybody here did was offensive but the non offensive athlete which was Michael Jordan right like a Michael Jordan was the Republicans by sneakers to guy you know what I mean like and Michael Jordan made a ton of money.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: like off of being able to bring everyone under the tent, like everyone could be a fan of Michael Jordan.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: Right, right.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: And, and if you think about it, like you think about other athletes of that era, I have no idea what Joe Montana's
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: political affiliations are.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what Dan Marino's are.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_00]: I you just don't know.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: Deon Sanders was another one.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: Like I couldn't tell you Deon is so out there, right?
- 15:07[SPEAKER_00]: And Deon's our generation.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: Deon is so out there.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: I couldn't tell you a thing about Deon's political.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: stances.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_00]: And that's probably by design.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's probably because back then it was you don't put yourself out there that way.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_00]: You're looking to appeal to a broader audience.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: And then you have like this kit and I think like what's really interesting about this one too is no one should be surprised by the one where these two guys stand, right?
- 15:41[SPEAKER_00]: You have a Mormon kid from Utah who went to college in Mississippi, and then you have an inner city kid from Philly.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't think it's surprising that either guy is in, and what that locker room is, and what NFL locker rooms have always been are these great melting pots, where guys like that that feel different about certain things have philosophically the ideology is
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: like come together and they don't need to agree on everything you know so I don't know I think it's interesting from that standpoint just in that like the athlete has changed and that they're more willing to put themselves out there in these ways again like I think about the athletes I watch growing up
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: And I, I, I mean, I could probably pull one or two out that maybe I, you knew if they were a Republican or a Democrat, but most of them, you just had no idea, you know, right, and I don't know, maybe it was better that way, but what is right, because like I think that it felt like not who you are, you know what I mean, like I don't, I don't know, I don't believe that, like it's not your identity, I just,
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's not your identity unless you, unless you, I would become that.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's not your identity unless you choose to make it that way, right?
- 17:03[SPEAKER_01]: And I, you know, I've kind of, my life has been enriched, I think, by having trying to understand people at like a molecular level who, like, couldn't be further off politically than I am.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_01]: And like I said, I put a lot of work into that over the last few years trying to make that happen.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_01]: and try to see how that broadens my life and makes my life better and it has.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: But now that onus is on Jackson Dart, right?
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: And I hate to say that it's unfair, it's unfair to it towards him versus abdual Carter, but you are the quarterback of the New York Giants, right?
- 17:39[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, and how did Eli Manning succeed there for
- 17:44[SPEAKER_01]: almost two decades by not seeing a goddamn thing about anything, about anything.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like I remember like they were all in six or whatever, right?
- 17:54[SPEAKER_01]: And there was a player's only.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_01]: No one hates you, I man.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: He's like that's horrible.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's horrible.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_00]: When you consider like a legacy kid,
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: like who his who his dad is, who his brother is, and how he came into the NFL, and more than 20 years later, no one hates Eli Manning.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like not that I maybe some people out near where I live, because what he did do him in sewer bowls, but that's pretty remarkable when you consider that, you know?
- 18:24[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: I remember like when the giants were like, oh, and five row and six or whatever, they had players only meeting that a player told me about, and that Eli spoke at, right?
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, players only meetings are big deals, right?
- 18:36[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the story.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_01]: And so, I'm on it.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_01]: And this is going to be a little thing that I report, right?
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, I finally managed to chase him down a locker room as he's going from here to there.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, hey, you know, you know, I can.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_01]: I heard that you guys had this player's only meeting and he's just like, no, he didn't and he just walked away, you know, and he just never said anything about anything.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_01]: And even now, like, Eli Manning's story about why he didn't take the charger, pick the chargers, which we talked about a couple of weeks ago.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_01]: This is, I'm checking my watch, the 2,026, okay?
- 19:07[SPEAKER_01]: This happened and this took him 22 years to talk about, okay?
- 19:12[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, you know, and so I think that
- 19:15[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Derek Geter, same way, right?
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: Where you didn't know what Derek Geter thought about anything.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: David Wright, another kind of great New York captain that I covered for a long time.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I do what he thought about anything, right?
- 19:27[SPEAKER_01]: He was a complete blank slate.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_01]: If Jackson Dart is this part of your Tom Brady, was that why?
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: Tom, well, Tom Brady, Tom, well, no, but Tom Brady, we knew Tom Brady, like, his, his, his friendship with Donald Trump was more about him wanting to be friends with celebrities.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_00]: Tom Brady is from an ultra left-wing family, very, very left-wing family.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I, and I think like that hat was a,
- 19:56[SPEAKER_00]: that was just oh I'm going to support my friend and he didn't he almost stepped in and not realizing what he was stepping into and then it was quickly over you know what I mean like but I think Brady is the same way like doesn't want anyone to know of his affiliations he was trying to be a good friend to somebody who had been a friend to him in the past and like I mean almost like I think was naive like in that like I don't know what I'm stepping into here like that was
- 20:22[SPEAKER_00]: I was ever about politics for him.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's closed loop on it because I think that you became such a big deal because you never heard anything from him about that.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_00]: But that's why it was a big deal because it was like, oh, like, like, tears were he sat and I was like, no, that's not where I stand.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 20:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and then it was over.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_01]: To close loop on this because I think you put it perfectly, right?
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: I mean that the I guess the point of a podcast is to have these conversations and not to just reduce it down to one line, but if you could, right?
- 20:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's now Jackson Darts like Jackson Darts got to do a cool thing.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: But to him, but like now he has to deal with consequences of it, right?
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, it's like again freedom of speech is is is not
- 21:08[SPEAKER_00]: free in so far as, like, if you say what's on your mind, whether Tesla or not, you know, it's like, I can, it's like when you're in fifth grade, you can call somebody a name in class.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_00]: But that doesn't mean that you're free of that kid hunting you down at recess.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_00]: And now it's in your office fight.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_00]: Or you want to mean?
- 21:31[SPEAKER_01]: We're hitting you with a truck.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_01]: A kid got mad at me in high school because I used to bang on his locker.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: And it made like a really loud noise.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: And he ran me over with a truck.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: So, and you know what?
- 21:42[SPEAKER_01]: I wrote a truck.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, first of all, it's an accident.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: Now the truck.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: We got lots of revelations here.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: What?
- 21:47[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_00]: You're fighting over with a truck.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: Hit me with a truck.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, followed me home from school and when he had like a clear shot at it, he just accelerated and knocked me in.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: To be clear, I deserved it.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, it's one of those things that like, you know, it's a way to hit and run then, right?
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: No, he stopped.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: He wanted me to know that he did it, you know.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_01]: So what are you doing?
- 22:11[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, side swipe you?
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of like I mean he hit me with the front of the truck and I shot like how fast he's going probably
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: 15, 20 miles an hour.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's so, yeah, yeah, it hurt, but the point is, I decided to do something to him and that was within my American rights to do that, I guess that wasn't necessarily within his American rights, because that's illegal to hit somebody with a car, but he decided to exercise.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I guess by the same token, like I don't know the school would have viewed what you did within the roles either, correct, yeah.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_01]: So, and then, you know, we settled on the playground,
- 22:52[SPEAKER_00]: when you said what you used to, back then we were civilized, that's right, just a circle of people going fight, but to the great thing about those is I tell my kids it's too okay, the great thing about that is like once you had the fight, it was over, yeah, there was no, like once you like like I got in fist fights with my friends and I remember it would be like you know
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: Then it would boil over and maybe it got physical, maybe it didn't, but then once you once the fight happened, then it was over and you were like friends the next day.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, not like that anymore.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's true.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: Back to my feeling that everybody at some point in their life should be punched in the face, because it kind of regulates things.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_00]: It regulates the world.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: You are a huge proponent of that.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: I do agree though my life did change after I got punch to the face and hit by a truck.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_00]: And right, it does regulate the world.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_00]: You can tell there are lots of younger people walking around these days that have never been punched in the face.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's a lot of a crowd.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: We have some more giant items to tick off, but just a New York centric thing to cleanse the pallet after that one albumer.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: The New York Nix are going to the NBA finals for the first time since 1999.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: And Bill Belichick's girlfriend
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, so after that, I wasn't the math.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_00]: I was expecting on this, but you're okay.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, uh, so Joe Bellachick once coached twice coach in New York.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_00]: So there you go.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think he would have been with the jets when the, uh, next last made the NBA finals.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he would have been the defensive coordinator of the jets.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was a great.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: the husband's group chat on our neighborhood that's yeah.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: Shout out to all the celebrities who made the trip yesterday.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_00]: That was great.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_00]: I was very heartwarming to see.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: I will say this.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: My annoyance with and it's done the personal against like Timothy Schallemay or Ben Stiller or any of them.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_00]: But like my annoyance with it isn't so much
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: My noise with it is more like when they wind up on the floor, and they're like, and that's when it becomes a little much.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: You don't wanna mean, like, I was on the field when we went on the national title in football in Atlanta.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: And I felt so awkward and weird, and I was, even though I knew the people in the staff, I wasn't going to go running.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's their moment.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: So I always feel like it's weird when you see like someone who doesn't belong there and not that I'm, I'm,
- 25:27[SPEAKER_00]: But I would say like LeBron, LeBron was at the game in Atlanta.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_00]: LeBron didn't wind up in the middle of the celebration when Ohio State won.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 25:36[SPEAKER_00]: So I always think it's a little weird when they wind up in the middle of it.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_00]: And to be clear, just so you know, I got annoyed with some of the Boston celebrities too, overall those years when the same people would keep showing up at certain things.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't like it.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_01]: I know that James Dawn invites him and that's something that he likes and it's like he's hoping that I too right
- 26:05[SPEAKER_01]: notoriously.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: But it's like the lakers thing, right?
- 26:09[SPEAKER_01]: But what I don't like about it, like what am I really good friends is a huge Nick's fan.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like has been watching every regular season game even during like the most meager times.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: And this is like a very special time for him.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm happy for those people to be cleared.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: 100%.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: But those people should be allowed to go to basketball games and not have to spend $6,000 to get into the arena.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that the celebrity culture
- 26:33[SPEAKER_00]: kind of perpetuates that that like price get in price for game because game three would be their first game right would be their first home game so all right yeah their first home game would be game so because I think there I think the spurs and thunder would both have home court on them right yeah so let's take a look here game three so the get in price I see here okay that's an
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: The get in price on doesn't seek for one ticket if you're buying a single is 3899.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I got 3741 and then if you want to do, there's only two left of these, not even courtside.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, behind the section behind court side, 42,276.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, because I'm looking at
- 27:39[SPEAKER_00]: row two.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: So this is, it looks like, to me, just looking at it.
- 27:44[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like it's five rows up, right?
- 27:46[SPEAKER_00]: So behind the scoring table, like behind the two, there's two VIP rows, then it's three, it looks like it's three rows up from there, but let's just just row two, 92,435 dollars.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: Almost $100,000 for, well, someone buy this?
- 28:07[SPEAKER_01]: That's what scares me about the because I have been watching some of the things because I always see that you see this is somebody actually going to buy that ticket probably It's still right enough as a business expense, too, right, you know, because at that point, right, yes, just like is this like Goldman Sachs selling their tickets.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_01]: Well, right because you would buy, like say you're going to close some deal with some giant bank from like, you know, whatever Switzerland or whatever, you bring the guy to that and then you write that off as a drop on the bucket business expense, right, but I will say when I've been watching these games that, you know, you're like, oh, there's Timothy Schallman, there's Tracy Morgan, quite a lot of money.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_00]: 115 115,000 Jesus.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_00]: Now, that's like center court, but that's even further up.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: That's like five six rows up in this section that's behind the two VIP rows.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: Holy crap.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_01]: Unbelievable.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, congrats to the next.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like, holy crap.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_00]: So do they get a cut of this?
- 29:12[SPEAKER_01]: Do you know, oh, when the resale market?
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: Dad, I don't know.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_00]: But I know the teams are involved in these things.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_00]: This is crazy, but anyway.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_00]: But the thing that I do, like you should I do the get notified if prices drop with $100,000, I'll take it and just track it for the next week.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_01]: I would love that and then you're gonna get on some really.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: Problem is, like, like the problem is somehow, like, what if something goes weird and then like all of a sudden they get charged like 90 grand.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_01]: Listen guys, yeah, I would love like it would be so funny if like if this was the heyday of magazines and we could go to like the publisher and be like, listen, what a great first person story it would be to write about sitting court side at the next game, right?
- 30:03[SPEAKER_01]: All I need is $90,000, you know, and you know, kid do that anyway.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_01]: Joe Shane's sign an extension Albert.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_00]: Joe Shane may be able to afford to sit there now.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, baby.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: This is, it's interesting because, you know, he was obviously labeled a dead man walking with John Harbaugh came in, and especially when John Harbaugh brought in Donna Ponte.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I think if I'm not mistaken, they hired another executive who had worked with a Ponte from the Texans at some point.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_01]: when the, yes, when Dom is with Dolphins, but I think they also just recently made another executive level higher, the giants.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_00]: The giants too.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: Someone connected with Don is what's saying.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: And so, I think all of that probably led to a mountain of theoretical evidence in our minds that there's no way that Joe Shane survived something like this, but I think you made the perfect comp a couple of months ago,
- 31:04[SPEAKER_01]: of George Peyton with Sean Peyton coming in.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's Joe Shane figuring out how to be useful in this new environment.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 31:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's no different than any corporate setting at the end of the day, right?
- 31:19[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, your place gets bought by new people.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_01]: They want things to work in a different way, right?
- 31:23[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, just to just update, uh, not dinner up.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_00]: But John Richter is their new director of college, got him who came from the Texans who had worked with Joe Shane in Miami.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_00]: And on a ponte, right?
- 31:34[SPEAKER_00]: And on ponte, wasn't, yes.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_00]: So Joe and Don were together in Miami for five years.
- 31:40[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_01]: you have to learn how to operate in this new corporate setting and you either do and you get to keep working there or you don't and you don't get to keep working there.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_01]: And I think whatever it is that John Harball wanted out of Joe Shane, Joe Shane has given him.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: And you know it's maybe Giants fans were seeing they're pounding the table and saying, buddy, you messed up Evan Neil and he messed up this guy and he messed up that pick and he messed up that pick.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: There's going to be less onus on Joe Shane to do that now.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe John Harbus said, hey, I see a strength in you in another way.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_01]: I identified something else that I think is useful to me.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: Why don't you go do this instead of doing that?
- 32:24[SPEAKER_00]: And well, I think that that healthy organization is existing that way.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_00]: No?
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: I look, like I feel like I need to clear this part up first,
- 32:36[SPEAKER_00]: I've talked a lot about this over the last couple of months.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_00]: I am not saying that Joe Shane has been some sort of roaring success over the last four years.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_00]: He has not been.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_00]: What I am saying is that
- 32:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's on ownership to figure out if you think you've got good people in the building when things go wrong and figuring out how to who to keep and who to get rid of.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that the Patriots and the Broncos are two examples of teams that held on to people that I think were good people.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: that despite the losing ownership had faith in, you know, and I think in both of those cases we've seen it work out.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I think one thing that's interesting is if you look at the four teams that were the last four teams standing, Connor, all four of them had general managers who survived coach firings.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, it's it's incredible if you look at this right because we all think what you got to bring in the two guys at the same time and together and and every fan and this is fair right like every fan when when things go so bad that somebody's getting fired generally fans want everyone fired.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_00]: That's just and I get that too.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like you want like all right, like we're going to do it.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like let's do it.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_00]: But if you look at it.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_00]: The Ram's less needs survived the higher the firing of Jeff Fisher.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_00]: He winds up getting paired with Sean McVay.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_00]: The Seahawks.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: John Schneider is sees through the firing of Pete Carroll, and he winds up hiring Mike McDonald.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_00]: And then I think the two more analogous situations to what the Giants have are the Patriots and Broncos, because in both those cases,
- 34:24[SPEAKER_00]: you hired coaches who are in demand, who are experienced, who I, the sort of leverage to come in and get what they wanted, right?
- 34:33[SPEAKER_00]: And variable and patent, right?
- 34:36[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, I think in both those cases, like Elliott Wolf was working with Bill Bellachack, then was elevated with Gerard Mail.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_00]: with uh, with uh, Bronco's same sort of thing.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I believe Vick Fangeo is still the coach when George Peyton got there.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_00]: They fire Fangeo.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_00]: George Peyton hires Nate Hackett.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_00]: That doesn't work out at all.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_00]: And then Peyton hires Peyton and Harrod's Peyton.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_00]: Sean Peyton and Harrod's Peyton gets Peyton.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I think in both those cases, you see where it was like, okay, ownership took a step back and said, okay, do we have good people here?
- 35:23[SPEAKER_00]: And how do we want to manage this going forward?
- 35:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I think in each of those cases, like legitimately Mike Vrable and Sean Peyton Rass by ownership, give this guy a chance.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like, Sean Peyton was asked, give George Peyton a chance.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_00]: Mike Freable was asked, give Elliott Wolf a chance.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I think in both cases, it's worked out where the general manager had a low enough ego to say, OK, I'm going to figure out what this head coach's vision is, and I'm going to execute that vision.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: And so what you have in Denver is a team that is tailor-made for Sean Payton.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_00]: The types of guys they have,
- 36:08[SPEAKER_00]: The position fits, all of that, like that team is just very well conceived and very well put together all the way to the quarterback, right, and wait the way bone next fits Sean paid and then in New England same sort of thing, like, like they were able to build that that was a Mike for able team with the violence that team played with with the effort that team played with and that was Elliott will helping Mike for able execute that vision and I think that that's part of why.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_00]: Why Joe Shane is where he is now is.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we're ship identified.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: This is this guy's a good town evaluator.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_00]: Let's, you know, like, we think he can execute a vision for John Harbaugh and like, we're gonna reconfigure some things.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_00]: John Harbaugh by the way.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_00]: He came in and he blew up the video staff, he blew up the training staff, medical administration, like they went in and they absolutely like rebuilt things.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_00]: And Joe was a survivor through that.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_00]: But Joe showed to John over the course of the last four months.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_00]: He talked to either of those guys.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_00]: The Joe could execute John's vision, which I think is the key to all of this, right?
- 37:18[SPEAKER_00]: And they have reconfigured to a degree, right?
- 37:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like where?
- 37:21[SPEAKER_00]: They bring in Don Appante, who, by the way, did not have experience with John Harba, but did have experience with Joe Shane, right?
- 37:29[SPEAKER_00]: So that was probably a sign for everybody where the giants were and where they were going forward.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_00]: Don and Joe work together in Miami.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_00]: And then they hired, like you said, the the the co-director of color scouting from the Texans,
- 37:43[SPEAKER_00]: who I'd experienced with change, that should be another sign that they actually are like all in it with Joe.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_00]: Joe, Shane, as their general manager, and John Harbaugh is in lockstep with Joe.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_00]: So that doesn't mean it's going to work.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_00]: And again, it doesn't excuse away what's happened the last four years.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_00]: this idea that I can't work, it's just a loss because we've seen it.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_00]: The AFC championship game was played with two team as examples of it working.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_00]: And so, you know, we'll see where it goes.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a guarantee that it's going to work, but I think it's a good result for the organization and I walk like they're going through a lot with their ownership situation too.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_00]: The abstine files, obviously, is not sure, with Steve Tish, but then also like John Merrah, whoever I think in the NFL loves and respects is going through a personal battle, you know, health wise.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_00]: And so like I think, you know, creating, like, and reimagining the organization through a time like that, I think Joe has been a big part of all that, too.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_01]: yeah and uh it's funny like so i saw that that the contract is signed it's like it's so funny when like dad brain like middle class dad brain sees that and it's he's 47 right and it's that he signed a multi-year contract extension so in my mind i'm like man he's one step closer to 65 and getting the kids to college but like that's also like you know
- 39:15[SPEAKER_01]: If you're making millions of yards a year near the general manager, I've never had avel team, you obviously have different goals and dreams than just making sure that you could get to go to college.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_01]: But good for Joe Shane, you know, at the end of the day, like you said, this could be a continuity move.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_01]: It does make sense in some ways if maybe some people in ownership are already comfortable with Joe and know how to operate with Joe.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_01]: And it just full circle back to that story that I wrote about Joe Shane with only one at the John Harbaugh hiring dinner that didn't order the special Harbaugh dinner.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_01]: He went rogue in order to rib eye.
- 39:53[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that's what people have respected about him.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that's like the all have a Sam Adams commercial and remember those from like the
- 39:59[SPEAKER_01]: like the late 90s where it's like a business lunch and the guys like all the water, all the water, and then the wildcard is like, oh, the Sam Adams and everyone's like, oh, yeah, you know, like, let's make it, you know, let's have an old, an old fashioned counter business lunch.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's what we're doing here.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, enough of that, I want to get to something that I would say that I was asked more about over Memorial Day from people who care about football than anything else, which is when the F is this AJ Brown trade going to consummate and the subtext of it is this.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_01]: Now you're hearing, I will like, could the Rams get back in, could another team get back in?
- 40:33[SPEAKER_01]: Do you sense that that's just the Patriots trying to or the Eagles trying to get a little bit more juice out of the Patriots at this point?
- 40:41[SPEAKER_01]: Or no?
- 40:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Eagles like...
- 40:43[SPEAKER_00]: Look, this isn't like a fortunate situation for the Eagles that they're in from a cap perspective where like they do have to, I mean, they legitimately don't have any contracts to left to restructure.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_00]: And so to make this thing worth, they would just simply kind of had to wait till June 1st, you know?
- 41:02[SPEAKER_00]: Which, by the way, does not mean you're saving $27 million off of what you would have if you had traded them in March.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_00]: That $27 million simply gets pushed forward.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_00]: to 2027, right?
- 41:14[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, like that piece of it is not fortunate.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_00]: But Halley Rosemann's Halley Rosemann and you know that in a bad situation, he's gonna find a lever that he can pull to take advantage of another team.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_00]: And like I think that's sort of what this is now is that, okay, so we have to wait
- 41:42[SPEAKER_00]: Is there something that we can benefit from by doing that?
- 41:46[SPEAKER_00]: And the thing that can benefit from Connor here is that other situations can materially change, right?
- 41:53[SPEAKER_00]: And so what does that mean?
- 41:55[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that means maybe a team drafted a receiver and that receiver came in to rookie mini camp and has started OTAs and they're like, uh oh, like he's not ready.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_00]: or there's an injury somewhere, or as we've seen now, I don't think the Chiefs are gonna trade for AJ Brown, but the Chiefs were on AJ Brown's list, and like now they've got the Rashi Rice situation, which does that mean now with Rashi Rice in a contract year, we're not willing to pay them $30 million anymore.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_00]: So now does that move you if you're the Chiefs?
- 42:29[SPEAKER_00]: Well, now we have some financial flexibility, do we go and get an AJ Brown?
- 42:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think that the reason why this thing has been sort of out there in the ether is like, they haven't agreed to terms yet.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_00]: They're not done yet is because the Eagles know that something could materially change somewhere between whatever data it is.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_00]: And now it's May 26 and June 1st that could give them a
- 43:00[SPEAKER_00]: a better ending to the AJ Brown era.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, like, that's how he rose and it should be doing.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's for the Eagles.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like, right.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, do us best for the Eagles.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_00]: And what's best for the Eagles is to take advantage of the situation the way he has.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_00]: However, I think that he's going to line up with a page of it's love, right?
- 43:20[SPEAKER_00]: I would say this, like I think.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know, initially they were at a spot where they wanted to trim the AFC and the Eagles were given four teams and the AFC that he would accept trades to, and that was the Patriots, the chiefs, the chargers and the bills, the bills almost immediately traded for DJ more right around then.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_00]: And then the chief said, no, the chargers said no, the Patriots were in.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_00]: That's when the Rams got involved because the Eagles needed to competitor the Rams went down the line with with with with with the Eagles.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_00]: It was going to be for a pick far off into the future.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be
- 44:09[SPEAKER_00]: Recognize we're going to have a hard time pulling off the corresponding move which would have been a trade of Devontate atoms right there were concerns with the knee and so like that left the Patriots is sort of the lone suitor and that's great if you're the Eagles that you do have a suitor and you know that they're willing to give you a return that you're willing to accept
- 44:28[SPEAKER_00]: But if you're not 100% happy with that return, then it makes sense to sit there and just wait.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and just like, let's see how April and May turns out with these other teams, and maybe somebody will have an injury, or maybe somebody will have someone get arrested, which, you know, like you don't look for that sort of thing to happen, but the, you know, that somebody else did get himself into legal trouble and rashi rice.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_00]: And so, you know, I think, you know, on Monday, we'll be talking about AJ Brown being patriot, but I guess you never know.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's the right place for AJ Brown.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_01]: AJ Brown is a guy who I think needs to feel safe.
- 45:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like we all do, I mean to a certain extent and it's like anything else, right?
- 45:09[SPEAKER_01]: If you're debating between certain jobs and you're switching companies, it's like, well, I know what my old boss is like and it's just better working for him.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_01]: I enjoyed working for my old boss, right?
- 45:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think that there is definitely an element of that.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_01]: I do wonder though, and this is kind of something that I think hasn't been talked a lot about, is the fact that you mentioned the bills in there, do you think that they come to regret DJ more over AJ Brown, and especially what they paid for DJ more, because I'm wondering if DJ more would have been cut.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 45:44[SPEAKER_01]: And instead, they spend a second round
- 45:50[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think the dad is both him?
- 45:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think both guys are sort of at the stage of their career where it's like, I mean, I think with each of them with more and brown, it's really going to come down to what they have left in the tank, you know?
- 46:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I know the bill's view DJ more because he's great with the ball in his hands great after the catch as a guy who's a really, really good fit for what they want to do offensively, right?
- 46:16[SPEAKER_00]: And a really, really good fit for
- 46:21[SPEAKER_00]: for Josh Allen, there's also some certainty there, and that Joe Brady was with DJ Moore and Carolina.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_00]: So they're not guessing on what they're getting, like they know the type of guy he is.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_00]: And he, like, isn't, like, from a character standpoint, he's a former team captain, like A plus character wise.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_00]: So, like I think the bills in the first year of Joe Brady being the head coach,
- 46:44[SPEAKER_00]: know exactly what they're getting if you like stylistically he's a really good fit for their offense a really good fit for Josh Allen.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_00]: Um you know at the same time like I think that like for the Patriots AJ Brown makes sense because again for the same reason the bills look at DJ more and there's some certainty there.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_00]: The Patriots can look at AJ Brown the same way because variable was with AJ Brown and Tennessee.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_00]: And so like
- 47:07[SPEAKER_00]: you know what the patriot's need and what the patriot's like where the whole would be and what they have offensively they've got slot guys.
- 47:16[SPEAKER_00]: Dobbs can play in this slot he can also play outside they've got you know pop Douglas and Efton Chisholm is the inside guys and then Efton Chisholm baby yeah and then again like sounds like a long stick midi from Richmond but he's
- 47:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's even after Chism III.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_00]: I know our editor of Mitch Goldish is really big on including suffixes here.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_00]: So, E.C.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_00]: III, yeah, E.C.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_00]: III, there you go.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_00]: And they have their Z in Mac Collins.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_00]: And so, what they could use is a dominant X, and I don't know if AJ Brown is dominant anymore, but like he does bring them something that K-Shambudi was sort of that guy, but now, but now, AJ Brown can be that guy.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_00]: So, I think,
- 48:02[SPEAKER_00]: getting each guy makes sense for each team for different reasons, I don't know that AJ Brown, I don't know that it would have worked out the same way with Josh Allen because I think so much of moving away from, I think so much of moving away from Stefan Diggs for the bills a
- 48:27[SPEAKER_00]: was freeing up Josh Allen to grow in a different way where he could go out there and play point guard and use the whole field.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, for the bills, I think investing in guys like James Cook, like Dalton King Cade, like Cleo Shakir, like they want to build an offense where the ball is being spread around.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_00]: And what is AJ Brown's primary issue in Philly, it's the quarterback's not getting me the ball enough.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_00]: The quarterback, you know, and so like I just
- 48:54[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that that would have been the same sort of fit where I think DJ Moore is an easier fit and an offense that's looking for you to just be a piece and not the focal point.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_01]: One more thing I want to get to before we get out of here Albert is the running back market and I've been fascinated by this.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think that I was driven nuts by it personally during the whole Jeremiah love discussion about well you can't draft him this high because it
- 49:21[SPEAKER_01]: the most guaranteed money for running back.
- 49:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, I don't miss it.
- 49:27[SPEAKER_01]: I still think that with as flexible as a cap can be, the onus is on ownership and to spend money A and your cap people to figure that out.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_01]: B and your job as football people is just to draft good players that can help you.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that any offensive coordinator is laying awake at night going, oh my God, but the percentage of the cap allocated to the, this got no.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_01]: and so we're gonna get it.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_01]: But the running back market has turned over.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_01]: We had the deal for HN, and we also had the deal for Breeze Hall.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_01]: And now what we're sitting at, and we're looking at, are potential deals for Bijan Robinson and Jamir Gips.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_00]: These deals are going to be, which I think those two guys are on another, like all in HN are good players.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think like,
- 50:17[SPEAKER_00]: Gibbs and Bijon or the next level up.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, I agree.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_01]: And you would assume that they're going to pass Sake One Barclay in terms of average per year salary.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_01]: Sake One Barclay is a 20.6.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_01]: And what's interesting though, when it comes to Jeremiah Love, is,
- 50:40[SPEAKER_01]: does his amount guaranteed at signing factor in to the amount guaranteed.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_01]: I had thought about that, received by Jeremiah Gibbs and B. Jean Robinson, because here's how it breaks down, right?
- 50:54[SPEAKER_01]: The Sake One Barclay got the most guaranteed money ever for I running back, which was 36 million of the 41.2 million in the extension, handed to him at once.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_01]: And the 36 million number I don't think was an accident because it was signed right before the drafting of Ashton Jenny, who by being drafted at number six was guaranteed 35.895812 right.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that that number did factor in to, you know, to say quembarkly's extension.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_01]: Now the question is, does Jamir Gibbs get to leapfrog.
- 51:39[SPEAKER_01]: So love's number is it blows everything out of the water, which is why I'm going to be like 50 something right it's 53.02 right so he essentially has 20 million more guarantee dollars Then say one barcle and this is what all the infighting was about about why the cardinal shouldn't draft him why the everyone thought this was a serious mistake in terms of the salary cap and I get that
- 52:02[SPEAKER_00]: But by the way, let's just about that.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I just, I know, you know, I've talked with Steven Jones about this.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like, when they, I remember when they drafted Z Kelly it, and I think I've made this point in the show before.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_00]: But like one thing that I think flies in the face of that is, like, when you draft a running back that high,
- 52:22[SPEAKER_00]: you are getting the prime of his career on his rookie deal.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 52:26[SPEAKER_00]: Like, where is like, when you pay a guy after your career, you're for your paying for the prime, you know what I mean of their career?
- 52:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I think with a running back because it translates so fast to the NFL.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I think a running back can be in his prime in his second, in his first or second year.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 52:42[SPEAKER_00]: So you're not like, you, like, I think the cardinals are paying for the prime of Jeremiah Love.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 52:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like, now, which I think it was the deal of
- 52:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, to me, three is a interesting number because here's why not to get like nerdy cap guy on you here, but so generally, like a lot of these deals, you're just guaranteeing the first two years.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's the way Breeze Hall's deal is that's the way Devon 8 HN's deal is like they're all like guarantee the first two years.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_00]: So then
- 53:22[SPEAKER_00]: Now, it's $27 million a year, which is too much, I think, probably, for Beijon or a Gibbs, then the alternative would be, now you're guaranteeing money into the third year.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_00]: right?
- 53:37[SPEAKER_00]: Which isn't the craziest thing in the world because you're already got the first two years guaranteed anyway through the last year of the rookie deal and and and the fifth year options.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that's where you're going to see what Gibbs and Robinson because they're former first-round picks because you have that love number.
- 53:57[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you got a huge guaranteed number and that number spill and the guaranteed money, which is rare with running max goes into the
- 54:08[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think, I mean, are we at a point now, especially as we're going to have your personnel groupings and like the NFL is cyclical, obviously?
- 54:19[SPEAKER_01]: The Cardinals drafted love having already had James Conner and Tyler L. Geer and maybe they just didn't expect to make the pick there or they got the running back room together.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_01]: And then Jeremiah Love fell in their laps, whatever it is.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_01]: But when you're going to have your personnel, the run game is such an important part of freeing up those tight ends in the past and generating good looks in the passing game and all that stuff.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, pasting up to that way can be an investment developing on quarterback.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_01]: Right, in passing numbers are slightly down.
- 54:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like passes per game, passing touchdowns, like it's granular, but it's not insignificant, right?
- 54:58[SPEAKER_01]: When it comes to NFL teams
- 55:01[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, is it is there ever a point where we can look at this through different lens and say okay like so even at that price like a running back is probably worthwhile for me at that yeah I'll take you back to you know I had a conversation with a guy's been exactly the only
- 55:17[SPEAKER_00]: a long time.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's probably 10 or 15 years ago.
- 55:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm standing on the sideline in a practice with them.
- 55:22[SPEAKER_00]: And he points out to this receiver who was in a big contract dispute with the team, right?
- 55:28[SPEAKER_00]: And he was like, that guy is going to make three or four times what this guy makes now.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_00]: And at the running back, right?
- 55:37[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, yeah, that guy over there touches the ball four times as much as this guy over here.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_00]: And he's like, so don't tell me we did a bad deal with the running back.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know what I mean?
- 55:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he was like, and it was interesting because they were having trouble getting the receiver done.
- 55:53[SPEAKER_00]: The receivers were really good player.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_00]: But it was like, don't tell me that this running back over here is not worth every penny we're paying him because like we are like, as he saw it, like if you looked at like just the way they're used,
- 56:10[SPEAKER_00]: You're getting now we can get into obviously he said it like obviously with the the acknowledgement that like receivers affect the game differently in their hardware all that Sure, you last longer all that But you know, I just remember having that thought and you and I have talked about this two years ago When Derek Henry Sake won Barclay in Josh Jacobs for all free agents and the Ravens the Eagles and the Packers sign those three guys at the top of the market
- 56:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I remember when that happened, I had that thought like those aren't stupid teams, you know what I mean, like those teams saw something they collectively saw something right and that's that that position had become the value to the point where now it was to value to sign one.
- 56:56[SPEAKER_00]: So now I think we see with what some of these guys have gotten and the return some of the teams have gotten on some of these guys.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_00]: All right, like what is B. Jean get what is Jamira give us get.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I would think, I mean, what do you think, 21?
- 57:12[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 57:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's going to be so the APY leader right now is sick one, Barclay at 20.6.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_01]: I would say if you're jamier Gibbs and be John, you don't get out of bed for less than 21.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_01]: God, what a sentence.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 57:26[SPEAKER_01]: And for both of them, it's a waiting game because you want the other one to sign first.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_01]: And like it's almost like the
- 57:34[SPEAKER_01]: to more chase and just in Jefferson, dual extension, right?
- 57:38[SPEAKER_01]: You want the other guy to sign first because, well, then I'm going to pop 40, you know, I'm going to pop 35, whatever it is.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_00]: And like you would think, like whatever the first guy signs forward becomes the floor for the second guy, right?
- 57:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and my guess is it would probably be, you know, 21, 21.5 or 21.6, right?
- 57:57[SPEAKER_01]: Because then they would give you a clear, like a full million over Sake One Barclay.
- 58:00[SPEAKER_01]: But I'll just say this, and this is going to sound like such a simple to take.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_01]: But the Lions came for two years.
- 58:06[SPEAKER_00]: Well, the best example of SOS Gardener and and and Derek Stingley.
- 58:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think Stingley's a better player, but SOS Gardener makes more because SOS Gardener went after the right thing.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 58:18[SPEAKER_01]: and there is good things come to those who wait.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_01]: There was a joint practice.
- 58:23[SPEAKER_01]: between the giants and the lions, and I went to a couple of them last year, and I just remember standing behind the lions' huddle, and watching the entire sequence of plays go, and you know, they're running some of the same plays multiple times with David Montgomery, and then with Jamir Gives.
- 58:40[SPEAKER_01]: And this is why like the running back argument craters in my mind, because seemed Jamir Gives in there, and how the giants' defense had to behave.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, it was like stomping on an ant hill like there are people just scattering everywhere because he is so incredibly versatile and even if and I and I get the argument, my good buddy Bill Barnwell made and I think it's a good it's a really good argument that like these guys don't really touch the ball as receivers so to build them as weapons and to use that to legitimize the finances of it is false I agree with that.
- 59:17[SPEAKER_01]: But there's also this like watching what happens when that guy is in the game and watching how defense is behave, whether it's from the backfield or it's from this whatever it is.
- 59:28[SPEAKER_01]: I just think that there are certain people who are worth that caliber of money to mere Gibbs and Fijon Robinson are worth that kind of money.
- 59:48[SPEAKER_00]: who can be queens in the chess board, and he can be the guys where it's like, we have to prepare for that guy in multiple ways.
- 59:56[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why I think tight ends are so valuable, right?
- 59:59[SPEAKER_00]: Like, is that, like, Grancowski or Kelsey, it's like, okay, so you want to come out, you know, in a four, three in your base defense?
- 1:00:10[SPEAKER_00]: Well, then you're matching a linebacker up on my tight end, we're gonna throw it.
- 1:00:14[SPEAKER_00]: If I see you take that line back or off the field and you're putting a safety out there or another corner out there, well then my my tight end is going to block that safety or corner and like and my running back is going to coming right behind you know it's like when you break the hotdle you have to know where that guy's lined up and like the offense has that that that that advantage on you.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I think with running backs, who can catch the ball of the back field, it becomes the same thing.
- 1:00:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's, you know, a B-John Robinson, okay, because of his presence out there, do you have to put a third line back on the field?
- 1:00:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_00]: And then if you put that third line back on the field, now is that guy covering B-John Robinson, if he goes out into the route?
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_00]: you know what I mean like so it becomes like now that simplifies things for the quarterback for the coach where it's like I see I see the third linebacker out there you know we're checking where we're going to be throwing the beach on now and he's going to be in the open field matched up with that linebacker you know it's like stuff like that that I think people don't think of what some of these guys were like a really great tight end who can do both or running back
- 1:01:25[SPEAKER_00]: in today's game where so much changes between the break of the huddle and the snap of the ball and what you're doing as far as like you know just the coach get in the play into the quarterback the quarterback being able to change the play on the fly and not running back that like marshal fox style running back that can do both or that in the tight end who can do both those have become like i think the weapons that
- 1:01:51[SPEAKER_00]: allow you to have your way and that doesn't mean receivers are valuable they are of course but like those two positions can help you in ways that I don't think fans see just watching the game.
- 1:02:03[SPEAKER_01]: I agree, and that's why I just think like we need to stop, we need to develop, and teams will never do this.
- 1:02:10[SPEAKER_01]: But as people who cover the game and as fans of the sport, here's my plea to fans of the sport as we close out here.
- 1:02:17[SPEAKER_00]: Can you indulge me on this one thing, REL, too?
- 1:02:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 1:02:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 1:02:20[SPEAKER_00]: Because Kyle Shanahan gave me the best description of this, like with a value of fullback.
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_00]: a couple years ago.
- 1:02:27[SPEAKER_00]: This was actually when they when they when they paid use check and he said to me like I was talking about the value of fullback and nobody has fullbacks and at the time like no one had fullbacks anymore and why do you have a fullback in your roster and why are you paying him?
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_00]: And he said to me, he's like, because most defenses, and this is oversimplifying up the quote was incredible.
- 1:02:45[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, like, that most defenses are not equipped to deal with a full back.
- 1:02:52[SPEAKER_00]: And most defenses now are equipped to deal with a love in person now.
- 1:02:55[SPEAKER_00]: So if they're in their nickel, right?
- 1:02:58[SPEAKER_00]: They're in like a sale, like a 425, our quarterback and us as offense of play cause, we might be looking out at them.
- 1:03:04[SPEAKER_00]: And there are 30 things that they can do to us.
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_00]: and they're not in their base very often.
- 1:03:10[SPEAKER_00]: So if I put the full back out there and they're in their base, now there's only 10 things they can do to me.
- 1:03:15[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm limiting what they do defensively to me because they don't have a lot of experience, and they don't have as much like time on task in that look.
- 1:03:25[SPEAKER_00]: They don't have as big a menu of things they can do to me.
- 1:03:28[SPEAKER_00]: And it's simple and having the full back out, they're simplifies everything for me.
- 1:03:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that's the stuff that like a lot of these coaches think about with running backs with full backs with tight ends.
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_00]: The court on court semi skill players like that I think really impacts the way the game is played.
- 1:03:47[SPEAKER_01]: And that's how, and it's interesting like hearing you say that now and seeing how many these teams are equipped to put two backs on the field, like two feature backs on the field at the same time now is kind of like, you know, it's like where is it going?
- 1:04:03[SPEAKER_01]: Is it 13 personnel or is it like, you know, I don't know.
- 1:04:06[SPEAKER_00]: That's why McFey uses three tight ends.
- 1:04:08[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:04:09[SPEAKER_00]: 100% why.
- 1:04:10[SPEAKER_00]: You're forcing them into your force and the defense to play away doesn't
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_00]: But are you guys who aren't playing as much on the field?
- 1:04:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like, now you got the linebacker who plays 10 SNATS again, game playing 50.
- 1:04:24[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 1:04:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's the whole idea.
- 1:04:27[SPEAKER_01]: But my question to you is, like, are we now?
- 1:04:32[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe is it no longer 13 personnel?
- 1:04:35[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, 30% know.
- 1:04:37[SPEAKER_01]: Is it 32% know?
- 1:04:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 1:04:39[SPEAKER_01]: Is it three backs?
- 1:04:40[SPEAKER_01]: Is it two feature backs and a full back?
- 1:04:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I don't know.
