Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to on Base Live in your Bleacher Report app.
- 0:02Speaker 1: I am your host, Smookie Betts, and today we have
- 0:06Speaker 1: a twenty twenty four All Star, the first Padres rookie
- 0:10Speaker 1: to ever make an All Star Game, or I guess yeah,
- 0:13Speaker 1: rookie to ever make an All Star Game, and a
- 0:15Speaker 1: twenty twenty four Silver Slugger, mister Jackson Merrill. How you doing, bro?
- 0:19Speaker 2: I'm good. How are you are you?
- 0:21Speaker 1: I'm good, Bro. You know it's crazy to see you
- 0:23Speaker 1: come up and to see how young you are, bro,
- 0:26Speaker 1: like goly, I remember being that young. And we'll talk
- 0:29Speaker 1: a little bit more about that because we got I
- 0:32Speaker 1: got ten years on you, bro, ten years of eight
- 0:34Speaker 1: I would have. I mean, I remember sitting in your
- 0:37Speaker 1: in your seat, and remember when somebody else was ten
- 0:40Speaker 1: years older than me, and I looked at him like, man,
- 0:42Speaker 1: he's old. And now you're saying that about me, dude.
- 0:44Speaker 2: God, the whole team, my whole team is the same way.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Yeah. So I don't feel too bad, all right, So
- 0:51Speaker 1: I want to start off by playing a game called
- 0:54Speaker 1: on base, off base, whether you're in or out? All right? Then,
- 1:00Speaker 1: Zel Clark's catch last night is the catch of the year.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I think it was nasty, but I'm out because Victor
- 1:09Speaker 2: Roblez sacrificed his whole life for that catching San Frand
- 1:13Speaker 2: I didn't see.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I didn't see.
- 1:15Speaker 2: We gotta that, dude. That's that's insane.
- 1:19Speaker 1: That's a nasty catch right there.
- 1:20Speaker 2: And three of those I know already.
- 1:23Speaker 1: And it's like to have that many opportunities because I
- 1:26Speaker 1: remember playing the outfield and it's like, man, I remember
- 1:27Speaker 1: seeing these catches and I'm like, man, I don't ever
- 1:31Speaker 1: really get the opportunity to go rob a ball like that.
- 1:33Speaker 1: You know, he's gotten three and you know he's uh,
- 1:37Speaker 1: he's he's made them all. I mean, shoot, so like,
- 1:42Speaker 1: take me through Take me through that, because I ain't
- 1:45Speaker 1: never really I've never done anything like that. And you know,
- 1:48Speaker 1: I mean I wouldn't even try and to me either,
- 1:50Speaker 1: take take take me through that. What is he thinking
- 1:53Speaker 1: right there? Like as the ball is going.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Up, I don't know what he's thinking. I don't know
- 1:57Speaker 2: what he's thinking. I always get scared to do that
- 1:59Speaker 2: because you see mar Solo Zuna clip when he came
- 2:03Speaker 2: and it comes down in front of him. I don't
- 2:05Speaker 2: want to get up there and.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Be like yeah, and I forgot that you're you're still
- 2:09Speaker 1: like relatively young to the outfield too. So this is
- 2:13Speaker 1: all what we'll talk about later. I want to get
- 2:16Speaker 1: into that. I want to keep Uh we.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Need to see that Victor Roy Blest ketch. If you
- 2:19Speaker 2: haven't seen it.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Let's can we see if we can pull that up
- 2:23Speaker 1: at some point uh throughout the podcast? Please? So do
- 2:27Speaker 1: you do you when and when someone if someone robs
- 2:30Speaker 1: your homer or X y Z, do you do you
- 2:33Speaker 1: feel like you got to shot them out? Not shot
- 2:35Speaker 1: him out, but like, yeah, you do salute for sure.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Yeah. I had having a couple of times Victor Scott
- 2:41Speaker 2: the Cardinals, Yep, he robbed me. I played him in
- 2:43Speaker 2: the Miners a bunch. So okay, Mike Harris, dude, he
- 2:48Speaker 2: I hit the same ball two days in a row.
- 2:49Speaker 2: He doesn't call it two days in a row.
- 2:53Speaker 1: See us coming up. Man, you get a couple of
- 2:56Speaker 1: couple of people doing that. But I feel like I
- 2:59Speaker 1: had like decin for right in my clubhouse and if
- 3:02Speaker 1: I decided to give someone a shout out saying good catch,
- 3:06Speaker 1: he would have rip my face off, dude if I
- 3:09Speaker 1: did that.
- 3:10Speaker 2: So we've been we've been playing going through this little
- 3:12Speaker 2: like rough stretch like team's kind of like, you know,
- 3:16Speaker 2: learn how to score runs. But DP sent me a
- 3:18Speaker 2: video yesterday and it's the funniest video. Is so funny.
- 3:22Speaker 2: He's he was my favorite player growing up.
- 3:25Speaker 1: O radio. Yeah, but it fired you up. It fired
- 3:29Speaker 1: you and you knew when you were on his squad.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Oh that one?
- 3:33Speaker 2: Oh okay, inverted?
- 3:36Speaker 1: Yeah he was hurt. Did he get hurt from that?
- 3:38Speaker 2: Yeah he's still out. Oh wow.
- 3:45Speaker 1: See That's why I'm glad I play short again because
- 3:47Speaker 1: I don't have to worry about.
- 3:48Speaker 2: That missing so much.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Yeah it is.
- 3:52Speaker 2: But Center's fun, Centers Senner's better than right.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I'll give you center.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Center's fun.
- 3:57Speaker 1: I don't know about that dog look listen. I I
- 3:59Speaker 1: enjoy or Right, But I felt like right Field was
- 4:02Speaker 1: the perfect amount of boring. Okay, but it had a
- 4:07Speaker 1: little action mixed in as well, I feel, and so
- 4:11Speaker 1: Center has a lot to like all action. You got
- 4:14Speaker 1: bored out there, You'll you'll.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Know I feel it. You know what I'm saying, because
- 4:18Speaker 2: you feel it right from short to there and you're
- 4:20Speaker 2: standing there ain't as like super engaged. It's it's definitely different.
- 4:24Speaker 1: And then it's even less and right so I go
- 4:27Speaker 1: out there, I'm taking bat in practice and you know
- 4:30Speaker 1: how you get take mental bat and practice and in
- 4:32Speaker 1: right field and then the ball comes and you'll catch
- 4:34Speaker 1: it whatever and then but anyways, it's short. Now you
- 4:37Speaker 1: can you cannot do that in center. You you can't
- 4:39Speaker 1: really do that. But let's get to the next the
- 4:41Speaker 1: next point, because I do want to talk about all that.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I Black elevates your game.
- 4:46Speaker 2: I feel like swag elevates your game.
- 4:48Speaker 1: So you're in on that.
- 4:50Speaker 2: You're feeling good. Yeah, I'm in on that.
- 4:52Speaker 1: So you guys have a lot of eye black guys,
- 4:55Speaker 1: you do, yes, And so when you're do y'all go
- 4:58Speaker 1: through a lot of sticks because y'all put a lot on.
- 5:00Speaker 1: There's a lot. Yeah, and I mean it looks great,
- 5:03Speaker 1: but there's just still a lot.
- 5:04Speaker 2: See for me, when I go in the training room,
- 5:05Speaker 2: the three same sticks are sitting there always, so like
- 5:08Speaker 2: they might replace them every now and then, but they're
- 5:10Speaker 2: always there.
- 5:11Speaker 1: So do you know? So, I mean, are you is
- 5:14Speaker 1: it like war paint for you?
- 5:15Speaker 2: I would say it just like kind of fires you up,
- 5:17Speaker 2: like you know you're going to you're going to play.
- 5:19Speaker 1: So it's not it doesn't it's not for you to
- 5:22Speaker 1: actually block the sun or anything.
- 5:24Speaker 2: I've never used it like that. You used it for
- 5:26Speaker 2: like for that reason.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I wore and it was strictly a swag at them
- 5:28Speaker 1: for me.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Yeah right, yeah, that's what That's what I always thought.
- 5:31Speaker 2: But some people use it for the son. I don't
- 5:33Speaker 2: even know how that works.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Like I've seen a coonya and some other guys. They
- 5:36Speaker 1: were like stickers right there. I wonder if you know,
- 5:38Speaker 1: maybe they don't want to put the EyeBlack on their
- 5:40Speaker 1: face and they but they still want the swag. They
- 5:42Speaker 1: got the best of both worlds. Because that's the original
- 5:44Speaker 1: reason why I stopped wearing EyeBlack is because I just
- 5:48Speaker 1: got tired of taking it off. And then I felt
- 5:50Speaker 1: like my cheeks and stuff started getting black because you're
- 5:54Speaker 1: putting it on taking off every day. Your face gets
- 5:56Speaker 1: so dirty, your slide and all the other stuff. And
- 5:58Speaker 1: I was like, you know what, I don't want to
- 6:00Speaker 1: keep having to take it off, So I guess got
- 6:03Speaker 1: it was pure laziness.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And it dude, just some burns me sometimes. Oh really,
- 6:06Speaker 2: one time I put triangles on my face and I
- 6:09Speaker 2: put some screen on. But I guess the black enhances it.
- 6:12Speaker 2: So I was had like big red triangles in my face.
- 6:15Speaker 1: So do you you make art on your face sometimes?
- 6:18Speaker 1: So what's your favorite?
- 6:20Speaker 2: I like going like a reverse seven reverse seven?
- 6:24Speaker 1: Does that have a meaning or anything?
- 6:25Speaker 2: No, I just kind of like how it is. I
- 6:27Speaker 2: think Bryce Harper used to do and he was younger, okay,
- 6:29Speaker 2: but for me, I just like to do it. Sometimes
- 6:31Speaker 2: I'll just smear it, okay, with your fingers, but I
- 6:34Speaker 2: always mess it up anyway. I was the game, Okay,
- 6:37Speaker 2: I'll mess it up.
- 6:38Speaker 1: That's yeah.
- 6:39Speaker 2: I'm just gonna start doing lines.
- 6:40Speaker 1: So Mickey Road does it, and when he puts it on,
- 6:42Speaker 1: he has a his process is like elite. He takes
- 6:46Speaker 1: the stick and he puts it on the stick and
- 6:49Speaker 1: then he just just paints it on and it looks great.
- 6:54Speaker 1: He's the first person I've ever I've ever seen do that.
- 6:57Speaker 1: So you guys are all you guys?
- 6:59Speaker 2: You got good good pull over that clubhouse?
- 7:01Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 7:01Speaker 2: Can I talk to any of you guys on the bases?
- 7:03Speaker 1: It's like speaking up.
- 7:04Speaker 2: It's nice, it's nice.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Hello. Next point. Freddie Freddie Freeman is the chattiest first
- 7:10Speaker 1: baseman in the league. Are you in or out?
- 7:12Speaker 2: On that, I would say, yeah, I mean he talks
- 7:16Speaker 2: the most, which is good. Yeah, he's one of the
- 7:18Speaker 2: nicest there is. I give matt Olsen up there.
- 7:20Speaker 1: To Maddy does talk.
- 7:22Speaker 2: He talks and he's a nice guy.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Do you like Saturday You're not like you do like it?
- 7:27Speaker 2: Okay, okay, I like that. I like others like, you know,
- 7:29Speaker 2: there's a friend vibe, but on a different.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Team, you know, being as short, not getting to actually
- 7:33Speaker 1: talk to people, you know, you do have to have
- 7:36Speaker 1: the balance of you know, in the middle of the game,
- 7:38Speaker 1: you know, you're they're their opponent. You don't want to
- 7:41Speaker 1: talk too much. But it's also like there's only seven
- 7:45Speaker 1: hundred and fifty of us, Yeah, and like we're all brothers.
- 7:48Speaker 1: So I'm gonna just say what up to you? How
- 7:50Speaker 1: you doing, how your fam X, Y and Z. We
- 7:52Speaker 1: don't have to have a full blown conversation, but you know,
- 7:55Speaker 1: it is something that we're essentially kind of going through
- 7:57Speaker 1: life together right now, and so nobody can appreciate what
- 8:01Speaker 1: we go through and understand what we go through better
- 8:04Speaker 1: than us, you know what I'm saying.
- 8:05Speaker 2: So that's why we don't have it that bad at all. No,
- 8:09Speaker 2: it's different. It's different for sure.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what I'm saying. All right, So the
- 8:13Speaker 1: last thing, San Diego Stadium has the best food in
- 8:16Speaker 1: the MLB.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Like the stadium, a concourse and Stufah.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you probably have you been to all the
- 8:22Speaker 1: stadiums yet. No, you've probably been like twenty Okay, so
- 8:26Speaker 1: you got a little while ago. I'll answer this. I
- 8:30Speaker 1: would say I'm off base because I do believe New
- 8:33Speaker 1: York the the the Mets have good in the stands.
- 8:39Speaker 1: I think they have really good. Now, this is not
- 8:41Speaker 1: the clubhouse, but the stands San Diego. It's dope up there.
- 8:49Speaker 1: And I really got to experience it during COVID when
- 8:51Speaker 1: we got to go up there and see because our
- 8:54Speaker 1: food room wasn't in the clubhouse, it was upstairs and
- 8:57Speaker 1: so we had to go upstairs and we got to
- 8:59Speaker 1: really kind of see the stadium now because we never
- 9:01Speaker 1: get to go upstairs and I've only I've only been
- 9:06Speaker 1: to one spot in that stadium, and uh that was
- 9:10Speaker 1: just to go eat and then go back down. You know,
- 9:12Speaker 1: when we go to when we go to the stadium,
- 9:13Speaker 1: we're there for work, so we don't we don't really
- 9:16Speaker 1: get to toss around No, we don't really mess around
- 9:18Speaker 1: too much.
- 9:18Speaker 2: So the food is crazy. You can go from like
- 9:20Speaker 2: tacos to dumplings, every everything, Like it's kind of got everything.
- 9:24Speaker 1: And in Dodger Stadium. I wonder if Dodger Stadium is
- 9:26Speaker 1: good now. And it's changed so much since I got
- 9:29Speaker 1: here from when I got here to obviously show Hey
- 9:35Speaker 1: now the Japanese and all that. I mean, the whole
- 9:37Speaker 1: thing is revamped. So I'm sure it's good. I haven't
- 9:40Speaker 1: tried it.
- 9:40Speaker 2: I was there. I was there last year game. I
- 9:43Speaker 2: was there, so I got a Dodger dog. It wasn't bad.
- 9:47Speaker 1: It was okay, okay, okay, all right. So switching gears, Uh,
- 9:51Speaker 1: you guys, you'all team playing got a flat tire? Tell
- 9:55Speaker 1: me about that? Like, how does like there's nails in
- 9:57Speaker 1: the on the runway?
- 9:59Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know how we did it, but
- 10:02Speaker 2: taking off from San France, we were a little wobbly
- 10:04Speaker 2: and we were like, all right, you know whatever. When
- 10:05Speaker 2: we landed in Milwaukee, it was like it was a
- 10:07Speaker 2: hard landing. Oh some might be up, but uh that
- 10:11Speaker 2: day twelve o'clock game. Never seen it, ever seen it?
- 10:14Speaker 1: Y'all played at twelve o'clock.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Twel o'clock game in Milwaukee. So we get to the
- 10:17Speaker 2: airport at like like four thirty five. We didn't take
- 10:21Speaker 2: off to like nine waiting. Oh wow, it was crazy.
- 10:24Speaker 1: So y'all and y'all were playing.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Yeah, we played some bottle bottle baseball.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Yeah, so who wanted? Who decided to play that?
- 10:31Speaker 2: We were kind of messing around like kind of like
- 10:34Speaker 2: hacky sack but with okay, okay, and they were like,
- 10:36Speaker 2: all right, show, let's play baseball. So we spilled them
- 10:38Speaker 2: two teams and you're.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Just like, it's crazy. You just can't get enough of baseball. Huh.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that wasn't my idea.
- 10:45Speaker 1: It's all good.
- 10:46Speaker 2: I was trying to pass time. It was.
- 10:48Speaker 1: It was a long one, said where the pictures playing too? Yeah, yeah,
- 10:51Speaker 1: they were hitting it. I'm assuming they were hitting it
- 10:53Speaker 1: a homer in that video.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Yeah, it was like a It was a helicopter doing
- 10:58Speaker 2: like show ride I guess cross walk and kept taking
- 11:01Speaker 2: off and going like right next to us and coming
- 11:03Speaker 2: back and Joe hit this bottle cap and it goes
- 11:05Speaker 2: like in the path. So we go to pick it
- 11:07Speaker 2: up and this woman started yelling at us.
- 11:11Speaker 1: So y'all. Obviously you have funny you made made light of.
- 11:13Speaker 1: I mean, I feel like those delays and all these
- 11:17Speaker 1: type of things, although they do suck, they're great for
- 11:22Speaker 1: like team bonding. You know, like you know, it's who
- 11:26Speaker 1: else would you want to be, you know, in a
- 11:30Speaker 1: random city at two o'clock in the morning, can't take off?
- 11:32Speaker 1: Got a game the next day? You know, like, who
- 11:36Speaker 1: else would you want to do it with? Then then
- 11:38Speaker 1: your brothers, you know what I'm saying, and so and.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Those guys making fun too. Nobody complain. Obviously, you get
- 11:44Speaker 2: in there and people are like, what are we doing?
- 11:45Speaker 2: Like this for sure after we kind of saw it
- 11:48Speaker 2: and accepted it, no complain.
- 11:50Speaker 1: Everybody's yeah cool. I do want to ask you about this, man,
- 11:56Speaker 1: are our rivalry? First of all? Do you believe that
- 11:59Speaker 1: there can more than one rivalry? Like? Can you have
- 12:03Speaker 1: more than one rivalry?
- 12:04Speaker 2: Like? Can your team have more than one rivalry?
- 12:06Speaker 1: Can your team? Or is it only just one?
- 12:12Speaker 2: In my opinion, I feel like if it's just one,
- 12:14Speaker 2: it's better. If it's just one, it's if you have
- 12:16Speaker 2: one rival and you're also there one rival, like, then
- 12:19Speaker 2: you guys fight out it more than anybody but if
- 12:21Speaker 2: you have multiple then I'd say you're just like like
- 12:25Speaker 2: for example, where I went to high school, everybody's rival okay,
- 12:28Speaker 2: everybody nobody really liked our high school. We would just
- 12:30Speaker 2: kind of like.
- 12:30Speaker 3: The you know, you want to beat you want to
- 12:32Speaker 3: beat you guys.
- 12:33Speaker 2: So like I feel like you and like us now
- 12:36Speaker 2: especially this year, like everybody's coming after us, no matter
- 12:38Speaker 2: who it is.
- 12:40Speaker 1: But I feel like it is man. And you know,
- 12:44Speaker 1: there's there's been a lot of people say like, no,
- 12:46Speaker 1: the Dodger Giants rivalry is the thing, and because that's
- 12:51Speaker 1: how it used to be, that's how it used to be,
- 12:53Speaker 1: that's how it's always been. Really and uh, you know,
- 12:56Speaker 1: as I've I can only speak from my experience here.
- 13:00Speaker 1: The Padres have always been good since I've been here,
- 13:03Speaker 1: and it's been like what the Giants have as well.
- 13:07Speaker 1: I ain't gonna say all, no, they've had some really
- 13:09Speaker 1: good teams because a Posey was there and they yeah,
- 13:12Speaker 1: they they had some really good teams. Actually, So the rivalry,
- 13:17Speaker 1: I guess it's hard sex because for me it's like
- 13:19Speaker 1: it's really both of y'all. Like the Giants always play
- 13:23Speaker 1: us tough, they always find a way just like you
- 13:27Speaker 1: guys do you know, it just looks different. You know,
- 13:30Speaker 1: you guys have a bunch of stars and X Y
- 13:33Speaker 1: and Z and the Giants went through a little phase
- 13:35Speaker 1: and now they got guys there as well. And so
- 13:37Speaker 1: but like when I when I think of it, our
- 13:41Speaker 1: rivalry reminds me of the Boston and then and I
- 13:44Speaker 1: feel like that, Yeah, it feels hmmm.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Because I feel like I was red soxha and growing up. Yeah,
- 13:52Speaker 2: so watching it, it felt like that was more like blood,
- 13:55Speaker 2: like we want coming after you.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:58Speaker 2: It also just feels like, you know, we want to
- 13:59Speaker 2: like win the baseball. Yeah. But like we said, we
- 14:03Speaker 2: talked to each other on the basis, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:05Speaker 2: I feel like the Boston New York coin is like, yeah, if.
- 14:07Speaker 1: You if you talk to someone on the base, yeah
- 14:09Speaker 1: you weren't. You couldn't talk to anybody. You know. There
- 14:12Speaker 1: was a lot like throwing at him, throwing at guys,
- 14:15Speaker 1: and you know, fights and all this other stuff. I
- 14:17Speaker 1: don't feel like that that goes on. I feel like
- 14:19Speaker 1: ours is like a rivalry of clean, good baseball. We're
- 14:24Speaker 1: gonna win. Yeah, We're gonna hit you in the mouth.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I don't care who's pitching, you're gonna hit us in
- 14:28Speaker 1: the mouth. We don't care who's pitching game. It's every game, bro,
- 14:32Speaker 1: somebody will be cruising all the time. And then it
- 14:36Speaker 1: doesn't matter like somebody's gonna hit. Somebody's gonna hit. And
- 14:40Speaker 1: it could be just familiarity, you know what I'm saying.
- 14:43Speaker 1: And so I mean me going through playoffs like it
- 14:47Speaker 1: just amplifies so much more. And but even even like yesterday,
- 14:51Speaker 1: that's that was the first time we played each other,
- 14:53Speaker 1: and it felt like it was insane.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Our stadium had not been like that all year, like
- 14:58Speaker 2: the let's go patras chance like get them in corners,
- 15:00Speaker 2: you know. Ye, but yesterday the entire stadium doing that.
- 15:03Speaker 2: We haven't had that this year.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Yeah, And that's the beauty of it. That's that's what
- 15:06Speaker 1: makes it fun. And you know, we know when we
- 15:09Speaker 1: go into Petco Park, I mean, it's it's gonna get up.
- 15:13Speaker 1: It's gonna be a hostile environment.
- 15:15Speaker 2: It's gonna be sick next week to we go to
- 15:17Speaker 2: you guys, Yeah, same.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Well, it's gonna be a hostile and and you know,
- 15:21Speaker 1: speaking of through the playoffs, like I remember going in,
- 15:27Speaker 1: I'm like, man, dude, we're playing in Petco. Like these boys,
- 15:31Speaker 1: they they were all they gonna come at us like,
- 15:37Speaker 1: I don't know what we're gonna do. I don't know
- 15:38Speaker 1: how it's gonna how it's gonna play out. You have
- 15:40Speaker 1: to figure out a way to like quiet the noise.
- 15:44Speaker 1: But it's impossible to quiet the noise because you know
- 15:46Speaker 1: what I'm saying. And so tell me about your your
- 15:48Speaker 1: experience with that. With the playoffs last year, I.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Thought it was so fun especially our series, like Brave
- 15:55Speaker 2: series was sick. It was so loud, and I was like,
- 15:57Speaker 2: I don't know how it's gonna get beat. And then
- 15:59Speaker 2: first game of all place I gave the last place.
- 16:01Speaker 2: It was so like, yeah, this is even close close.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Yeah, it's crazy.
- 16:05Speaker 2: The playoffs for us is so funny, Like we have
- 16:08Speaker 2: Profar being a clown out there.
- 16:10Speaker 1: He's yeah, yeah, he's an awesome dude. He's an awesome dude.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Once he takes that field, though, he becomes a different
- 16:17Speaker 1: person in a very positive way. You know what I'm saying.
- 16:20Speaker 1: He wants to he wants to win the game, like
- 16:22Speaker 1: he's super competitive, you know what I'm saying. But and
- 16:24Speaker 1: you hit a homer there, what was going through your
- 16:26Speaker 1: mind in that situation when you hit the homer, I'm blackout.
- 16:29Speaker 1: You know, it just kind of happen.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Blackout, bro man, pro like Rob's your homer.
- 16:34Speaker 1: In game two yep, yep.
- 16:36Speaker 2: And I was like this guy is like, we're asking
- 16:38Speaker 2: for it right now. This is hilarious. And then game four,
- 16:42Speaker 2: I think or game three, no, game three three.
- 16:44Speaker 1: It was back to.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Was like he's not doing it again.
- 16:47Speaker 1: I was so hurt. I was so hurt. I was like, man,
- 16:50Speaker 1: this dude, because because it was like when he caught
- 16:54Speaker 1: it the first time, it kind of gave you energy
- 17:00Speaker 1: and not like crazy amount of X, Y and Z,
- 17:02Speaker 1: but it was like, oh, good play, like we dodged
- 17:05Speaker 1: a bullet. But then to see it go over the
- 17:08Speaker 1: next time was like, hmm, it hurts. It hurts a
- 17:11Speaker 1: little bit. You know it's because we we get a
- 17:14Speaker 1: point right there for sure, and so it changes the
- 17:16Speaker 1: feel of the game. And you know that that that
- 17:19Speaker 1: was crazy. Man.
- 17:20Speaker 2: I thought it was funny. The first one when he
- 17:22Speaker 2: caught it, you were like rounding, and then when you
- 17:24Speaker 2: saw he had it, you're like, oh man, And then
- 17:26Speaker 2: the second one you were like in the dugout almost
- 17:29Speaker 2: all the way off so I'm in center like looking
- 17:31Speaker 2: at you and listening to dugout and then like not Homer,
- 17:34Speaker 2: I'm out of the base.
- 17:37Speaker 1: Yeah, all the way I was crossing past the pictures
- 17:41Speaker 1: bound and uh, I thought they were going to call
- 17:43Speaker 1: me out just because I've never I had never done
- 17:47Speaker 1: that before. You know, I've gotten robbed, but never ran
- 17:49Speaker 1: like gone off the field, gone off the field or whatever.
- 17:52Speaker 1: And so, uh, man, I was so hurt. I was
- 17:54Speaker 1: so I was so hurt.
- 17:56Speaker 2: So it's more hurtful in the playoffs still it Yeah,
- 17:58Speaker 2: it is, especially our playoffs.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Our series was unreal because it's so hard. It's like
- 18:03Speaker 1: it's so hard. It's so hard, especially when they know you. You
- 18:08Speaker 1: know them, I mean you just have this pure rivalry.
- 18:12Speaker 2: You just know, like yeah, and we had good games
- 18:14Speaker 2: all seasons.
- 18:15Speaker 1: All season.
- 18:16Speaker 2: I feel like every game. We might have had two
- 18:17Speaker 2: games that were like you guys beat us, batter we
- 18:19Speaker 2: beat you, Yeah, but other than that, they were like.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Every game is right right there, you know what I'm saying.
- 18:23Speaker 1: And so, so tell me about your second season this year,
- 18:26Speaker 1: Like going in, going into it, was there something that
- 18:31Speaker 1: you felt like you wanted to change or get better
- 18:34Speaker 1: at or or whatever it is.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I wanted to walk more. That was mine.
- 18:39Speaker 1: You wanted to walk more, walk a little more? Why
- 18:40Speaker 1: do you want to walk more?
- 18:42Speaker 2: My My ability in baseball is hitting, like I like
- 18:45Speaker 2: to hit, like the swing. I'm not a walker. I'm
- 18:47Speaker 2: a hitter. But there's also a point in time, like
- 18:50Speaker 2: people will figure out you're gonna swing, so they're gonna
- 18:53Speaker 2: throw balls balls everywhere. That's what's been happening recently.
- 18:55Speaker 1: And you don't think you'll you don't think you'll take.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Them sometimes just like I'm an auto swing mode.
- 19:01Speaker 1: I want to.
- 19:02Speaker 2: I hit in the cage all day on the field.
- 19:03Speaker 2: I feel great, and I'm like, let's go use the
- 19:05Speaker 2: swing and you get out there and it's like, oh,
- 19:07Speaker 2: swinging the balls so recently, been honing it in more,
- 19:10Speaker 2: trying to you know, strength that zone down, getting balls
- 19:12Speaker 2: more in the middle.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Well you will, man, I mean I think being then,
- 19:17Speaker 1: I guess I'm your elder. My My only advice to
- 19:22Speaker 1: that is just kind of let it naturally happen. Bro
- 19:24Speaker 1: Don't don't try and set out yourself to walk more
- 19:27Speaker 1: because essentially you're hitting what fourth.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it just depends and.
- 19:32Speaker 1: It's yeah, it's not really like your job to do
- 19:34Speaker 1: a whole bunch of walking. Your job is to drive
- 19:37Speaker 1: the ball.
- 19:37Speaker 2: Like, so I think it's more so not trying to
- 19:39Speaker 2: walk more, but more so trying to wait for a
- 19:41Speaker 2: better pisture to drop.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Maybe you can work on your approach or whatever. Yeah,
- 19:45Speaker 1: so I just don't want you to.
- 19:47Speaker 2: The approach is always the same up the middle over.
- 19:50Speaker 1: And that will change. I mean, this is only your
- 19:52Speaker 1: second year. Like, my mind has changed so much, you know,
- 19:56Speaker 1: throughout throughout these years. But my advice would be just
- 19:59Speaker 1: to let naturally change, Bro, Just let it naturally change.
- 20:02Speaker 1: You don't have to try and do this or try
- 20:03Speaker 1: and do that.
- 20:04Speaker 2: It just doesn't work.
- 20:07Speaker 1: It doesn't work. It doesn't work. And so if you
- 20:10Speaker 1: want to walk more, kind of I'm not gonna say
- 20:13Speaker 1: walk more, work on your approach then maybe find ways
- 20:16Speaker 1: to do that mentally, you know. But yeah, going out there,
- 20:22Speaker 1: I think you do just fine.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Bro.
- 20:24Speaker 1: I mean I think you, and I think me and
- 20:26Speaker 1: I'm sorry, me and everybody else in the league would
- 20:31Speaker 1: would rather you walk more, you know what I'm saying.
- 20:34Speaker 1: So so then you swing the back because you.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Just get more selective, more selective, which is obvious.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Yeah, that's gonna be. That's gonna and you be more
- 20:43Speaker 1: selective will definitely in turn help you in a lot
- 20:46Speaker 1: of positive ways. So that will that'll be good. I
- 20:50Speaker 1: do want to go back to, uh a little bit
- 20:52Speaker 1: of your journey, bro, when you were younger, it says
- 20:57Speaker 1: you're from Baltimore. Where are you from? Where are you from?
- 21:01Speaker 2: I'm originally from passading to Maryland.
- 21:03Speaker 1: That's where I grew up, Pasadena, Maryland. Yeah, others too,
- 21:06Speaker 1: I didn't know. Okay, not the.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Same pastinga bro, not at all. But it's like fifteen
- 21:11Speaker 2: minutes from Baltimore. Okay, just you know, take the Baltimore
- 21:14Speaker 2: role as me.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Okay, all right, so you just if somebody says I'm
- 21:17Speaker 1: from Baltimore or year from Baltimore, you just roll with it.
- 21:20Speaker 2: You don't like, he's like twenty five thirty minutes north
- 21:24Speaker 2: of Baltimore. Oh okay, it'll be like I'm from Baltimore.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Hey, he claiming Baltimore. Okay, it was neat. They're the
- 21:33Speaker 1: chance yesterday when he gets up, what do they say, like,
- 21:36Speaker 1: oh my sheets or something?
- 21:37Speaker 2: Holy sheets?
- 21:37Speaker 1: Holy she totally she shirts Really that's cool that he's
- 21:42Speaker 1: the man was the man it's fun to see him
- 21:45Speaker 1: on our team too.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Yeah Roughier last year, Yeah yeah listen then, but he's
- 21:50Speaker 2: come here. He's been a super good vibe. Yeah.
- 21:52Speaker 1: It seems like it would be hard to play in
- 21:54Speaker 1: the situation like that, and you know, how can you
- 21:58Speaker 1: show up to work every day knowing that tough?
- 22:00Speaker 2: Did you have any seasons in Boston like that?
- 22:02Speaker 1: No, I've never been a part season like that.
- 22:04Speaker 2: I remember any seasons where it was like that low.
- 22:07Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no, not never both, I mean Boston.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Something happened like that in Boston. Yeah, I don't even know.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Okay, so it says, uh what what what?
- 22:17Speaker 2: Uh?
- 22:17Speaker 1: What sports did you play growing up?
- 22:19Speaker 2: I played soccer and basketball. Soccer, yeah, I wasn't big
- 22:23Speaker 2: enough to play football.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah. It says you were five to five when
- 22:26Speaker 1: your freshman year.
- 22:27Speaker 2: I was tiny.
- 22:28Speaker 1: You were tiny? Yeah, five five your freshman year and
- 22:31Speaker 1: you're playing soccer your freshman year. Yes, so you played
- 22:34Speaker 1: soccer all all through high school.
- 22:36Speaker 2: I played soccer freshman sophomore year, and then I stopped
- 22:40Speaker 2: just to play baseball.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Just to play baseball. You didn't want to open nothing.
- 22:42Speaker 2: I played basketball still. Yeah, but my junior or high
- 22:45Speaker 2: school was COVID that whole baseball season and everything.
- 22:48Speaker 1: You lost all that? Yeah, and so then did you
- 22:52Speaker 1: go back for another junior year? No?
- 22:54Speaker 2: I I we did online the rest of the junior
- 22:56Speaker 2: year and then online half senior year.
- 22:59Speaker 1: And so you so you only get to play like
- 23:01Speaker 1: two and a half years of sports in high school
- 23:03Speaker 1: pretty much.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Freshman year I was JB baseball. You know, I wasn't big,
- 23:07Speaker 2: so for sure, for sure, sophomore year varsity, junior year canceled,
- 23:12Speaker 2: and then senior year we had like fifteen games.
- 23:15Speaker 1: And then that how was it? So during those fifteen games,
- 23:17Speaker 1: like what, oh it was great? Yeah, Maryland pitching.
- 23:20Speaker 2: I'm facing sixty five sixty five. I got videos and
- 23:23Speaker 2: I got like a fastball coming in and you can
- 23:26Speaker 2: see in the video go like this. It was like
- 23:29Speaker 2: fifteen games, like fourteen homers. So yeah, that was the
- 23:33Speaker 2: reason I was here. I credit COVID for being for
- 23:37Speaker 2: me being here, Like, go ahead, gym, get bigger, get better.
- 23:40Speaker 2: And then fifteen games you're facing that pitching like hard
- 23:42Speaker 2: to get out.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Okay, so then you got you get drafted, right, So
- 23:47Speaker 1: what teams were really in on.
- 23:48Speaker 2: You patters is the first team actually they were okay,
- 23:52Speaker 2: and then Yankees, Tigers and Royals and the other three
- 23:56Speaker 2: that were.
- 23:56Speaker 1: You know what's crazy is the PI Dres were actually
- 24:00Speaker 1: the team that was most in on me, and they
- 24:04Speaker 1: I remember, I will never forget. I remember, uh, thinking
- 24:09Speaker 1: that I was gonna be a Padre, and I remember
- 24:11Speaker 1: the scout. I remember everything about it. I remember multiple
- 24:15Speaker 1: multiple days meeting this guy. I mean I remember having
- 24:19Speaker 1: just special, a special workout, just hitting BP and I'm like,
- 24:22Speaker 1: I'm Padres, this is it. And then come draft day, obviously, uh,
- 24:26Speaker 1: you know, things changed. But yeah, it's it's wild that.
- 24:30Speaker 2: I feel the Red Sox is all right though.
- 24:31Speaker 1: Yeah it worked out. It worked out. So you get
- 24:34Speaker 1: drafted and tell me about your minor league experience because
- 24:37Speaker 1: it was quick.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Yeah, it was quick. Really didn't play whole much. First year.
- 24:40Speaker 2: I got hurt, broke my wrist earlier in the year,
- 24:43Speaker 2: so kind of played like half that season. Second season,
- 24:46Speaker 2: went to the Midwest League and that league is brutal,
- 24:48Speaker 2: that is the most like real baseball. It's cold, you know,
- 24:52Speaker 2: High A. So I was there half the year and
- 24:55Speaker 2: then went to Double A and then after that spring
- 24:57Speaker 2: training up.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Here and then you got here and then and when
- 25:01Speaker 1: you got here, I guess was there? How quick was?
- 25:05Speaker 1: Those were the talks in the for the extension.
- 25:10Speaker 2: So we had some like when I was still in
- 25:11Speaker 2: the miners. Nothing crazy.
- 25:13Speaker 1: That's how you know you nasty? Do you know you're nasty?
- 25:16Speaker 1: You getting extension offers in the miners bro It.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Wasn't like crazy, like official official offer. It was just
- 25:21Speaker 2: like talks with them and my agent. And then I
- 25:24Speaker 2: went to High and actually like slumped for like a month.
- 25:27Speaker 2: So you know, after that, I kind of put my
- 25:28Speaker 2: head down and think about it, just went after it.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Last year there wasn't anything crazy, but this year it
- 25:33Speaker 2: went really fast, like spring training and then kind of
- 25:36Speaker 2: first week of the season got done.
- 25:39Speaker 1: And what made you because you haven't really I guess
- 25:42Speaker 1: you don't really know anything else? What made you want
- 25:44Speaker 1: to be a Padre?
- 25:45Speaker 2: I just I like the people here and you look around.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Manny's here for ten more years, Toddy's here for ten
- 25:50Speaker 2: more years, Crony's here for some time, Joe's here. We've
- 25:54Speaker 2: got a lot of people that are going to be here,
- 25:55Speaker 2: so you know the comfortability my teammates will be here.
- 25:58Speaker 2: But then also drafted me, so I kind of just
- 26:02Speaker 2: I got a different love for them than I have
- 26:03Speaker 2: for anybody else, for sure.
- 26:04Speaker 1: And so you said when you were younger you were
- 26:06Speaker 1: a Red Sox fan.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Yeah, it was Bogey U DP, big Poffey who was
- 26:13Speaker 2: your favorite player? DP? That's majory was. He was my
- 26:16Speaker 2: guy because he was just a little grinder, you know,
- 26:18Speaker 2: and I was small in high school, so I kind
- 26:20Speaker 2: of related to him and he didn't care. I heard
- 26:23Speaker 2: he used to show up to the field and put
- 26:24Speaker 2: his jersey on at like twelve and.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Then exactly I remember, yeah.
- 26:31Speaker 2: You know Vic right hitting what he's the man. He
- 26:35Speaker 2: was my first coat. Yeah, yeah, he tells all the stories.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Oh man. So so yeah, p d uh p D
- 26:44Speaker 1: would get going. Man, you know, he he's got he's
- 26:47Speaker 1: got fire fire in him. And so yes, he would
- 26:51Speaker 1: get to the field, uh really early. He wouldn't put
- 26:54Speaker 1: his jersey on that early. He would get he would
- 26:56Speaker 1: get get to the field early, take care of all
- 27:00Speaker 1: his business. But then right after VP, it's five o'clock,
- 27:05Speaker 1: he's got he's unied up, ready to go walking around.
- 27:08Speaker 1: And he always said he would get get ready just
- 27:12Speaker 1: in case they get They started the game early, just
- 27:15Speaker 1: in case they started early, and so yeah, that was
- 27:19Speaker 1: I really appreciate all that he did. We were our
- 27:23Speaker 1: lockers were pretty close, and I just remember, like I
- 27:27Speaker 1: don't remember a day that he didn't have fire in
- 27:29Speaker 1: him crazy and it was amazing to see someone be
- 27:36Speaker 1: like that. And I really especially in Boston, Like I
- 27:39Speaker 1: guess he belonged. He belonged in Boston because that he
- 27:43Speaker 1: was primed and ready for that, you know, in Boston,
- 27:45Speaker 1: man the d you know what I'm saying. All these
- 27:49Speaker 1: things can knock you down, but his fire really just
- 27:52Speaker 1: pushed him past all that. And it's really kind of sad,
- 27:54Speaker 1: kind of how what kind of happened. And I know
- 27:57Speaker 1: it was an accident and all this stuff with with
- 27:59Speaker 1: his knee, but you know, he still has some you know,
- 28:02Speaker 1: but it is what it is. I mean, I think
- 28:04Speaker 1: I think, uh, you know, pt is one of the best,
- 28:07Speaker 1: one of the best players I've ever played with.
- 28:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I wish he didn't get short, and I wished
- 28:10Speaker 2: she had like another three years.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but you know, it kind of is what
- 28:16Speaker 1: it is. It is the part of life that that
- 28:19Speaker 1: you can't do it. So do you have a relationship
- 28:21Speaker 1: with him?
- 28:22Speaker 2: No, I've never actually met him, But.
- 28:24Speaker 1: So is that what they call him on the street DP,
- 28:26Speaker 1: That's what I like to call I thought you was
- 28:28Speaker 1: saying the nickname like I wasn't sure.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Never met him, I need to, but uh no, Nick
- 28:35Speaker 2: Punto is one of our bench coaches. And then obviously Vic.
- 28:40Speaker 1: So did you do you have any did you go
- 28:42Speaker 1: to games.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Every time you guys play in Baltimore? I was there?
- 28:45Speaker 1: So do you have any any memories of something Big
- 28:49Speaker 1: Poppy did or anything of that nature that kind of
- 28:52Speaker 1: helped shape you into who you are now?
- 28:54Speaker 2: They probably hit me a ball in BP one time.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Oh wow, okay, just like I didn't move, I was
- 28:59Speaker 2: sitting here, my dad was right next to me, and
- 29:00Speaker 2: then it was coming, like I remember so vividly, coming
- 29:03Speaker 2: right in my face. My dad caught it, so that
- 29:05Speaker 2: kind of got me on his train. But when I
- 29:07Speaker 2: was younger, I can't remember who hit a homer. Somebody
- 29:10Speaker 2: hit a homer in the playoffs and I was like
- 29:12Speaker 2: four years old, and I started clapping. I had no
- 29:14Speaker 2: idea what was going on. And my dad was told
- 29:16Speaker 2: me all the time that I had to be a
- 29:17Speaker 2: Red Sox fan, had to be Red Sox fan.
- 29:19Speaker 1: So he was a Red Sox fan.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:21Speaker 1: And is he from Boston or anything.
- 29:23Speaker 2: He's from New York.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Okay.
- 29:24Speaker 2: His whole family is either Mets or Yankee fans. Okay, Okay,
- 29:28Speaker 2: he's the he's the outlier in there with the Red Sox,
- 29:31Speaker 2: which I like. So I figured i'd roll with him.
- 29:34Speaker 1: N Okay, okay, okay. And so all right, did you
- 29:37Speaker 1: did you want to be a Red Sox? You know
- 29:39Speaker 1: I went on my draft?
- 29:41Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, at that point in time, like before the draft, yeah,
- 29:44Speaker 2: right now, though, I wouldn't change the thing. I'd stay
- 29:46Speaker 2: right here.
- 29:47Speaker 1: So I know, I'm kind of jumping all over the place.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Why did you stop soccer.
- 29:52Speaker 2: For me? I wasn't I was not the best of soccer.
- 29:55Speaker 2: I could shoot, like I could shoot, Okay, I can't dribble.
- 29:58Speaker 2: I could pass and shoot. That was all I could do.
- 30:00Speaker 2: And then the running.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Bro oh yeah, it's a lot of running. It's a
- 30:03Speaker 1: lot of running.
- 30:03Speaker 2: I think running in baseball is a lot like spreading.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Hey wait till you wait till you get thirty and
- 30:08Speaker 1: you go out there to play center field. You like, man,
- 30:10Speaker 1: this is too much running, Like the short Tell me
- 30:13Speaker 1: about tell me about your your your your switch from
- 30:15Speaker 1: short to outfield, Like, how how has it been? Is it? Like?
- 30:18Speaker 1: What's hard about the outfield that you haven't learned about yet?
- 30:24Speaker 1: I'm unless you didn't know what should I say?
- 30:27Speaker 2: I would say the line line drives are the hardest
- 30:29Speaker 2: thing about the outfield. That's That's pretty much it. I mean,
- 30:32Speaker 2: I think my first time playing outfield, you hit me
- 30:35Speaker 2: a line of last year spring training, and I like
- 30:38Speaker 2: dove and like stuck in the ground. It's first a
- 30:40Speaker 2: basting training. But it's just the line drives. That's pretty
- 30:44Speaker 2: much it. Everything else pretty.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Fun, everything you enjoyed, you and joy going to get it?
- 30:47Speaker 2: Yeah? And didn't you play second before you? Yeah, move
- 30:51Speaker 2: to the outfield.
- 30:52Speaker 1: I played second base off the miners right, same thing,
- 30:56Speaker 1: same thing, and then I like, I think, I want
- 31:00Speaker 1: to say I started playing center in in UH in
- 31:03Speaker 1: double A like this is this was a month before
- 31:08Speaker 1: I got called up to the big leagues, and I
- 31:09Speaker 1: played center, and then I moved right, and I played
- 31:14Speaker 1: center and right when I first got called up, and
- 31:18Speaker 1: I remember learning learning the outfit the hardest thing for me.
- 31:21Speaker 1: It was like really tracking the ball, like running and
- 31:29Speaker 1: keeping my head steady. I had never done it, you
- 31:32Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. And so there was many times
- 31:35Speaker 1: I was especially in VP, like you know, he had
- 31:37Speaker 1: a shag and BP, like I was running going out
- 31:39Speaker 1: these balls in the gap and just clanking it, you know,
- 31:42Speaker 1: and you know I had to learn how to do it.
- 31:45Speaker 1: And and then throwing, throwing was because I was playing second,
- 31:50Speaker 1: So I really had to learn how to throw from
- 31:53Speaker 1: the outfield because I mean, you I'm b Yeah, I
- 31:56Speaker 1: figured I figured out how to how to throw. But
- 32:00Speaker 1: you know that that that switch going out there, there's
- 32:03Speaker 1: different techniques and some things that you've got to learn.
- 32:05Speaker 1: But overall, if you're an infielder going to the outfield,
- 32:08Speaker 1: your your initial reactions and all this stuff, it should get.
- 32:12Speaker 2: You by translates. Yeah, it translates easy. I think center
- 32:15Speaker 2: to like center is the easiest side of the three.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Yeah, center is the easiest, for sure.
- 32:20Speaker 2: I think running like as a kid, every VP I
- 32:24Speaker 2: ever was at, I'll go to the outfielder, It's for sure.
- 32:27Speaker 2: I think like the tracking of stuff, I kind of
- 32:29Speaker 2: just had it naturally. Oh okay, but I do feel that,
- 32:33Speaker 2: like when that thing's hitting the gap and you're playing
- 32:35Speaker 2: in San fran and the winds going like, man, like,
- 32:38Speaker 2: you got to really get lucky, hopeing don't cut on.
- 32:40Speaker 1: You yeah or something? Yeah, So did you did you
- 32:46Speaker 1: when you first got asked you to go to the outfield? Right?
- 32:50Speaker 1: I remember when they asked me to go to the outfit.
- 32:52Speaker 1: I'm like, man, like I'm bowling.
- 32:55Speaker 2: What do you want me to go to the outfield?
- 32:56Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying, you know, like, well, usually when
- 32:58Speaker 1: you get moved off your position, that's like step one
- 33:00Speaker 1: of uh, you know you get not not that you're
- 33:04Speaker 1: gonna get released right then and there, but like that's
- 33:06Speaker 1: step one of something, not what I'm saying. And I
- 33:14Speaker 1: was like, man, they want me to go to the outfield,
- 33:16Speaker 1: like Goda, So what was your what? What did they?
- 33:20Speaker 2: I think our team was just like I knew it
- 33:22Speaker 2: because we had Bogie, we had Kim Kimmy last year
- 33:25Speaker 2: he's like he's one of the best defenders ever seeing
- 33:27Speaker 2: then you have Jacob to Croney is like one of
- 33:29Speaker 2: the most un road defenders I see it. So for me,
- 33:32Speaker 2: I knew it was pretty stuck. And when they said like,
- 33:36Speaker 2: hey can you play here? Can you play there? It
- 33:38Speaker 2: was like a week left in Double A. So I
- 33:39Speaker 2: played left like two games now is it? But for me,
- 33:43Speaker 2: I was kind of excited. I was like, they didn't
- 33:45Speaker 2: ask me to move. I was probably getting oh yeah,
- 33:48Speaker 2: so asked me to move. Was like, all right, you
- 33:50Speaker 2: can play here. You just got to hit. I think
- 33:52Speaker 2: hitting playing the outfield is wayasier hitting and playing the infield.
- 33:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I would say so. I mean it's just less.
- 33:58Speaker 1: I mean it's just less, you know, it's just a
- 34:00Speaker 1: lot less. And I mean now I do catch myself,
- 34:03Speaker 1: you know, in the infield, like you're constantly moving. And
- 34:06Speaker 1: now my day is completely different playing the infield. I
- 34:08Speaker 1: mean completely completely different playing the infield. Like I remember
- 34:12Speaker 1: in the outfield, Bro, I would get to the field,
- 34:15Speaker 1: go do a couple of ground balls, like my little
- 34:17Speaker 1: side work for my hands, and then that was really
- 34:19Speaker 1: all I did for the day. It was just you
- 34:21Speaker 1: just go hit. You know what I'm saying, You just
- 34:23Speaker 1: go hit. And now it's like I have to get
- 34:25Speaker 1: there at least an hour earlier, and then I have
- 34:28Speaker 1: to like really prepare my body. You know, I'm working
- 34:31Speaker 1: out way more and not necessarily like trying to get stronger,
- 34:36Speaker 1: and I am trying to get stronger X Y and Z.
- 34:37Speaker 1: But just to get my body ready every day because
- 34:41Speaker 1: going to take ground balls, you can't. You can't for
- 34:44Speaker 1: me like you can't dog going to take ground balls
- 34:46Speaker 1: like that, Every rep has to be perfect, perfect because
- 34:51Speaker 1: the game fast, it comes so fast fast, and so
- 34:55Speaker 1: you know, that's that's one thing that I probably does
- 35:02Speaker 1: taking away on you a little.
- 35:03Speaker 2: Bit hitting, But I mean it's like that drive too.
- 35:06Speaker 2: We talk about like that transition, like infield, you're right
- 35:09Speaker 2: there and then you're right there yep, Like you don't
- 35:11Speaker 2: got that time now feeling center like I got a
- 35:13Speaker 2: nice little stroll in. I can kind of take the
- 35:15Speaker 2: defense out yep, put the offense in. We're good. So
- 35:18Speaker 2: I feel that it's kind of the same relationship with
- 35:20Speaker 2: that same thing.
- 35:21Speaker 1: So I got a couple of things before we finish up. Bro,
- 35:23Speaker 1: we are ten years apart. Like I said, you're twenty two,
- 35:27Speaker 1: I'm thirty two. So do you identify as like gen Z?
- 35:34Speaker 1: Like do you?
- 35:35Speaker 2: I got no idea.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't really know how that really works either.
- 35:39Speaker 1: I think I fall into the millennial category.
- 35:42Speaker 2: I think so too, And.
- 35:45Speaker 1: I think you fall into the gen Z category.
- 35:47Speaker 2: I think that's right. My brothers, he's.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Thirty four, Oh, so he's on my squad, Yeah, exactly.
- 35:52Speaker 2: See. That made it easier for me coming up. Was
- 35:55Speaker 2: my brother's twelve years older than me. So all my
- 35:57Speaker 2: teammates are pretty much the same way same And like
- 36:00Speaker 2: my brother has two kids.
- 36:02Speaker 1: I got two kids.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Yeah, right, Like it's kind of the same way. So
- 36:05Speaker 2: it's easy.
- 36:06Speaker 1: Brother. Look a great guy.
- 36:07Speaker 2: He's a man.
- 36:08Speaker 1: He's a man I want to be one day.
- 36:10Speaker 2: Yeah, he's the best, all right.
- 36:12Speaker 1: So I want to I want to. I want to
- 36:15Speaker 1: give you a couple of things that that I have
- 36:20Speaker 1: in my generation that I want to see if you know,
- 36:21Speaker 1: and then I'll see if I know a couple of
- 36:24Speaker 1: these things of your generation, since we're so far apart. So, uh,
- 36:28Speaker 1: do you do you know how you got how you
- 36:32Speaker 1: got internet in the nineties? Do you know how, I like,
- 36:38Speaker 1: how how how it turned on or anything? You know,
- 36:41Speaker 1: nothing but it so I can answer that, Uh, dial
- 36:47Speaker 1: up AOL was was internet and and that was the
- 36:52Speaker 1: time where you had to turn on the computer and
- 36:55Speaker 1: to get the internet. It took like ten minutes, bro like,
- 36:58Speaker 1: and you had to turn it on and you can
- 36:59Speaker 1: go shower and everything before it was ready to go.
- 37:03Speaker 1: And if if if someone called your the house phone,
- 37:07Speaker 1: if someone called it internet, cut off, reset it, and
- 37:12Speaker 1: your mama was coming in there, and she was she
- 37:15Speaker 1: was was getting a whooping. He was getting a wooping
- 37:17Speaker 1: because look, you messed up her internet. You know what
- 37:20Speaker 1: I'm saying. If you you know, you couldn't do that
- 37:23Speaker 1: unless it was her one of her homegirls. But she
- 37:25Speaker 1: would say, hey, look, don't call me, I'm about to
- 37:27Speaker 1: get on internet. That's how That's how it had to work.
- 37:29Speaker 2: So that's crazy because now it's like the opposite. Is
- 37:32Speaker 2: my mom interrupted my Internet while I was playing video
- 37:34Speaker 2: games in high school.
- 37:35Speaker 1: I'm going after her. Yes, all right, So what about this?
- 37:39Speaker 1: You definitely got to know this. What was the popular
- 37:42Speaker 1: snack where you dunked cookies and funfetti bro dunk guse
- 37:47Speaker 1: curse you.
- 37:49Speaker 2: Don't find them? I assume in like like I think
- 37:51Speaker 2: Boston has them.
- 37:52Speaker 1: The older clubhouses, Oh yeah, Boston seemed like it would
- 37:56Speaker 1: have it would have something like that.
- 37:57Speaker 2: But the newer ones, like the newer clubhouses I don't
- 38:00Speaker 2: I mean dun garouos.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Are like the they really the thing in the past,
- 38:04Speaker 1: you know as a kid though, Okay, that's because your
- 38:09Speaker 1: brother was there. That's why maybe yep, maybe shout out
- 38:12Speaker 1: to to Bro. What's your brother's name? Shout out to
- 38:14Speaker 1: Josh Bro. Okay, So if you call someone an n
- 38:19Speaker 1: p C, what does that mean?
- 38:22Speaker 2: NPC? I've heard that before. I don't know what the
- 38:27Speaker 2: initial stand for is, like you like in person.
- 38:30Speaker 1: I don't know. I have no idea. I don't know
- 38:32Speaker 1: what an n PC is.
- 38:33Speaker 2: I think it's like normal person, normal person, normal person something,
- 38:38Speaker 2: someone who doesn't think for themselves.
- 38:40Speaker 1: But what does n PC thinkful like stand for? Can
- 38:43Speaker 1: we can we get that a non playable character? I
- 38:48Speaker 1: don't know what it's.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Like in a video game like okay, and like there's
- 38:54Speaker 2: like the narrator that's an n PC.
- 38:56Speaker 1: Okay, got you got you? Got you? Got you? Okay? Oh,
- 39:00Speaker 1: I know you don't know this one. What would someone
- 39:04Speaker 1: you star six seven for when making a phone call?
- 39:08Speaker 1: You don't even know what star six seven? Oh? You
- 39:10Speaker 1: know you know? Okay, everybody knows that. I figured people
- 39:15Speaker 1: don't make prank calls anymore.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Come on, dude, I feel like people don't.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Have house phones anymore.
- 39:21Speaker 2: That's true, but you can.
- 39:22Speaker 1: I guess, peopuld do your cell phone?
- 39:24Speaker 2: I feel like, yeah, grade people are like prank call
- 39:26Speaker 2: the piece place, Yeah, and like trying and try and
- 39:29Speaker 2: get something.
- 39:29Speaker 1: You just prank call anybody, bro, I remember shout out
- 39:32Speaker 1: to prank calls. You know, people don't even do prank
- 39:35Speaker 1: calls anymore.
- 39:35Speaker 2: I don't know us, but like I think, I think
- 39:37Speaker 2: it hilarious. You can get away, can get away with it?
- 39:41Speaker 1: Okay, what about this? What popular internet internet group is
- 39:46Speaker 1: the Rizzler offering free featured on I don't know what
- 39:49Speaker 1: the wrizstler is? You know what the wristler is?
- 39:52Speaker 2: I would say like maybe like TikTok or something.
- 39:54Speaker 1: I don't know, you know what the rizzler is.
- 39:56Speaker 2: I feel like he's this little kid, like this little
- 39:59Speaker 2: I don't I can't. I can't describe that. He's a
- 40:01Speaker 2: little he's a little kid. Though he's a kid.
- 40:02Speaker 1: He's a kid, this kid, Yes, the guy I think.
- 40:05Speaker 2: I think it's a kid. And then he has his
- 40:06Speaker 2: dad that runs it. But it might be on TikTok
- 40:09Speaker 2: or Instagram or something.
- 40:10Speaker 1: Okay, so the so what costco guys? What is that
- 40:14Speaker 1: in their group? Is the Rizzler often featured on I
- 40:16Speaker 1: don't even know what this is. I don't even know
- 40:19Speaker 1: what the Wrizzler is so the Risoner man, We're just
- 40:23Speaker 1: gonna skip it because I don't know. Okay, So what
- 40:25Speaker 1: about this. What popular media format would you rent from
- 40:30Speaker 1: Blockbuster in the nineties? What media format?
- 40:35Speaker 2: What is the VCR, TVR, v R.
- 40:39Speaker 1: I feel like it was VHS.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Oh, VHS, yes, VHS the big rectangle, Yeah, the rectangle.
- 40:46Speaker 2: So I used to have those as a kid too.
- 40:47Speaker 1: You had a VHS.
- 40:48Speaker 2: So we had a Blockbuster Red down the Road was okay, okay,
- 40:52Speaker 2: big box kind of and then you put the little
- 40:54Speaker 2: tape in.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Yeah. So did you ever did you ever go get
- 40:58Speaker 1: video games from Blackbuster? Because you know they had After
- 41:01Speaker 1: a while they started selling video.
- 41:02Speaker 2: Games, But I did. I think I did one time
- 41:04Speaker 2: as a kid, and then I just like either broke
- 41:06Speaker 2: or loss of dish or my mom was like, nah,
- 41:09Speaker 2: we ain't ain't reading a video games?
- 41:10Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I remember you could go you could go
- 41:13Speaker 1: rent the whole console and everything. I mean, that was
- 41:17Speaker 1: when you know, the world was a little more trustworthy
- 41:19Speaker 1: because you bring it back. Now if you rent a console,
- 41:22Speaker 1: it is not coming back zero gone. Okay, So uh
- 41:27Speaker 1: last one who won the World Series and O three
- 41:30Speaker 1: you were born yep.
- 41:32Speaker 2: Wait, no, no, that was four Cardinals? Maybe was it?
- 41:36Speaker 1: No Cardinals? Was eleven? It could have been Mars Marlins
- 41:39Speaker 1: beat the yank Marlins beat the Yankees, and O three.
- 41:41Speaker 1: I don't know anything about baseball, so I did not
- 41:46Speaker 1: know this. So three was the Marlins? Do we have yep,
- 41:48Speaker 1: Florida Marlins there? It is? So that means was that
- 41:51Speaker 1: Meggie and it was there?
- 41:54Speaker 2: I think Gary Sheffield was there?
- 41:55Speaker 1: Gary Sheffield was there.
- 41:58Speaker 2: I just remember watching the Jeter doc. I can't remember
- 42:03Speaker 2: too much was on.
- 42:04Speaker 1: There as a whole. But I'm going to get to these,
- 42:11Speaker 1: uh fan questions. Now, we're gonna switch gears to get
- 42:13Speaker 1: to the fan questions. The chat they talking to me,
- 42:17Speaker 1: Oh chats in there, the chat, Yeah, they're talking to me.
- 42:20Speaker 1: They thank you. You got an old soul about you,
- 42:22Speaker 1: Like at you old soul?
- 42:23Speaker 3: You know what that means kind of like a I
- 42:27Speaker 3: can like imagine it, I can't really say it, so
- 42:29Speaker 3: you don't know what it means, an old soul, like
- 42:32Speaker 3: like we were talking about these nineties questions, like that's
- 42:34Speaker 3: my kind of my kind of soul.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Yeah, like there like you you you're you're wise amongst
- 42:40Speaker 1: your years.
- 42:40Speaker 2: I feel that. Yeah, but you know, like you go
- 42:43Speaker 2: live on your own eighteen, you gotta you have to
- 42:45Speaker 2: grow up. I got to grow up.
- 42:46Speaker 1: People people miss and they don't really get it. Like
- 42:50Speaker 1: you were living with your mama a month, like not
- 42:53Speaker 1: month before you got drafted. I mean right when you
- 42:55Speaker 1: got drafted. A couple of weeks later.
- 42:56Speaker 2: You gone gone and you don't come back. Like it's
- 42:59Speaker 2: not like you're like going back for the years. No, yeah,
- 43:01Speaker 2: you're going. You're going for a month and then you're
- 43:02Speaker 2: back out.
- 43:03Speaker 1: Yep, and and you go and you're with you have
- 43:07Speaker 1: no idea anybody.
- 43:09Speaker 2: I got lucky though, James would. I played with him
- 43:12Speaker 2: when I was thirteen or fourteen and we both went
- 43:14Speaker 2: for second round roommates and got traded.
- 43:17Speaker 1: So that definitely helped.
- 43:18Speaker 2: That helped for sure.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Yeah, from my experience, I went and I had nobody
- 43:23Speaker 1: I didn't. There was guy speaking Spanish. I ain't even
- 43:26Speaker 1: heard Spanish.
- 43:27Speaker 2: Before Woko in the clubhouse of Spanish music blasting.
- 43:30Speaker 1: You know, I'm getting in there like I will never forget, man,
- 43:32Speaker 1: like just where I was from, like just after the game,
- 43:37Speaker 1: like y'all shower, that what you mean when I shower?
- 43:42Speaker 1: When I get back to the hot.
- 43:43Speaker 2: Is that what used to do? Man? What so James
- 43:46Speaker 2: and I used to do the same thing. We were like, nah,
- 43:48Speaker 2: I'm not sure with y'all na had. We had a
- 43:51Speaker 2: little team meeting in the azy ol brought the whole
- 43:54Speaker 2: team in the dugout. Our coaches like, hey, you gotta
- 43:56Speaker 2: be professional. You guys got a shower and all this.
- 43:58Speaker 2: Everybody gets up. James, he looks at me, He goes,
- 44:01Speaker 2: that was totally about us.
- 44:02Speaker 1: It was just us. I remember I did not shower
- 44:05Speaker 1: the first time, and then they were like, may you
- 44:07Speaker 1: got a shower. So I'm like a cool. I went
- 44:11Speaker 1: got swimming trunks and I went out in there and
- 44:15Speaker 1: was swimming. I'm like, I'm not getting in the shower.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Y'all are tripping ye a kid? Yeah, and you were
- 44:21Speaker 1: going exactly, That's exactly. And it took them finding me
- 44:26Speaker 1: before I actually showered, because I was like, man, it
- 44:29Speaker 1: was just complete culture shock for me, you know what
- 44:31Speaker 1: I'm saying. And so so all right, So anyways, though
- 44:36Speaker 1: I don't really like to go on my phone too much.
- 44:38Speaker 2: Okay, it sounds like important stuff I gotta like do, yeah,
- 44:41Speaker 2: But like otherwise than that, I like kind of staying
- 44:43Speaker 2: off my phone, hanging showing people.
- 44:45Speaker 1: Yeah, you like being in the moment. Yeah, that's that's
- 44:47Speaker 1: that's considered all so. So I got a couple questions. Sorry, Uh,
- 44:53Speaker 1: do you think cats make better pets than dogs?
- 44:59Speaker 2: They're easier pets than a dog, yes, but they're not
- 45:01Speaker 2: a better pit.
- 45:02Speaker 1: I agree with that. I think definitely easy.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Okay, you throw a litter box out, you raised it
- 45:06Speaker 2: for the first like year, and then they're on their own,
- 45:08Speaker 2: you know, even like hanging out with dogs. Dogs are
- 45:12Speaker 2: like they're by your side, you know, the dog. I
- 45:15Speaker 2: want thee but I can't right now.
- 45:17Speaker 1: It's hard, bro, you're traveling and moving around. Yeah, you know,
- 45:20Speaker 1: you don't have time.
- 45:21Speaker 2: For I would never put that on my girl either. Here,
- 45:24Speaker 2: here's the dog. I'm gonna go on the road.
- 45:26Speaker 1: And that's she didn't want that, you know, she didn't sign. Yeah, yeah,
- 45:33Speaker 1: I remember I got I remember getting a dog. I'm like,
- 45:36Speaker 1: you know, I want a dog, and my wife was
- 45:38Speaker 1: super supportive. She was like, Okay, let's do it. And
- 45:43Speaker 1: I think she knew the whole time we didn't need
- 45:45Speaker 1: the dog, but I think I was so adamant about
- 45:47Speaker 1: getting it and so man. We had that dog for
- 45:51Speaker 1: We had Leo for about maybe till he was I
- 45:55Speaker 1: don't even know if he made it to one. Maybe
- 45:59Speaker 1: I gave him to my mind. I had to give
- 46:01Speaker 1: it to my mom because it was just I was trapped,
- 46:03Speaker 1: like I was traveling too much, and she's like, I
- 46:05Speaker 1: don't want to keep We're on an apartment. So now
- 46:08Speaker 1: we had to go. She had to go down twelve
- 46:09Speaker 1: flights go out, and we're in Boston, so it's thirty
- 46:13Speaker 1: two degrees outside. She said, I'm not I'm not gonna
- 46:15Speaker 1: keep walking this dog. And so after the game, I
- 46:18Speaker 1: would have to go to I'm tired, go up twelve
- 46:22Speaker 1: flights elevator, get the dog, come back down, walk around,
- 46:28Speaker 1: take him out. I just got out of a thirty
- 46:30Speaker 1: two degree whether now IM about to go back into it.
- 46:32Speaker 1: A bunch of other stuff.
- 46:33Speaker 2: So you imagine I don't know if it was game
- 46:36Speaker 2: game four roasters and eighteen, but like eighteen innings. You
- 46:41Speaker 2: imagine eighteen inning game you gotta go home and walk your.
- 46:43Speaker 1: Dog after the game. Bro, I'm not walking the dog,
- 46:47Speaker 1: do that. Sorry, you gotta hold it, Okay? How often
- 46:54Speaker 1: do you hear what fans are saying? In the outfield
- 46:56Speaker 1: to you, come on, you hear it, you hear the
- 46:57Speaker 1: whole time. But have you heard any thing that's creative yet?
- 47:03Speaker 2: They're all like Little League gross, like you drop it pretty,
- 47:06Speaker 2: your shoes on, tie whatever. I say.
- 47:08Speaker 1: San Fran got some mean people out there, the san
- 47:11Speaker 1: Fran They don't have mean people out there. Bro.
- 47:14Speaker 2: People say Wrigley and Yankee Stadium is bad. Bro.
- 47:16Speaker 1: Sam Fran is like, well that that could be because
- 47:20Speaker 1: the rival, because Yankee Stadium is bad.
- 47:22Speaker 2: If I feel, if you're from my perspective.
- 47:25Speaker 1: Yankee Stadium is probably m.
- 47:31Speaker 2: Mean.
- 47:32Speaker 1: San France, sand Fran get in on you. Yeah, both
- 47:34Speaker 1: of them, both of those, both both of those got
- 47:36Speaker 1: they're probably neck and neck.
- 47:37Speaker 2: Yeah. But always said you like crazy stuff to me.
- 47:40Speaker 1: Well, you hadn't been around long exactly. I don't know
- 47:42Speaker 1: if you'll get around and you and you're in center,
- 47:45Speaker 1: so center is is a little further away if you're
- 47:49Speaker 1: in right and left right or left there right behind you,
- 47:52Speaker 1: so they let you have it. Same thing, and uh yeah,
- 47:54Speaker 1: but when you hear something creative, I want to hear
- 47:57Speaker 1: about it. Bro.
- 48:00Speaker 2: Okay, so oh wait, wait, wait wait you heard something
- 48:03Speaker 2: I got cursed? So I heard you play golf.
- 48:05Speaker 1: I do.
- 48:07Speaker 2: Actually in high school, my gym coach I can't remember
- 48:09Speaker 2: his last name. He was we could call him coach P.
- 48:12Speaker 1: Coach P.
- 48:12Speaker 2: But his son played golf with you one time, I think,
- 48:15Speaker 2: and I saw a video you driving smack it, smacking it.
- 48:18Speaker 1: That was That was san Fran Yep.
- 48:21Speaker 2: This dude. You've seen this dude Trev's chirps on Instagram.
- 48:23Speaker 2: He's a Giants fan. He just like is out there
- 48:26Speaker 2: and he cheered me. He's like, I bet you always
- 48:27Speaker 2: three put in golf. So the whole first month is
- 48:31Speaker 2: off season. I three putter more every single green and
- 48:34Speaker 2: I never three putt. Putting is the strongest part of
- 48:36Speaker 2: my game, and I three put it every time. He
- 48:39Speaker 2: put it on me.
- 48:40Speaker 1: So that's the worst thing you've heard.
- 48:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I got the thing in golf because of that guy.
- 48:45Speaker 1: Okay, So is it hard for you not to react?
- 48:47Speaker 1: I guess if you're only hearing little league stuff, then.
- 48:49Speaker 2: It's it's easy. It's easy. But I feel like even
- 48:51Speaker 2: if it wasn't literally stuff, it wouldn't be too bad.
- 48:53Speaker 2: I've heard like stuff from leftfield get said to pro
- 48:56Speaker 2: last year, and like for me, it was like, that's rude.
- 48:58Speaker 2: But at the same time, you know they're out there,
- 49:00Speaker 2: weren't here. Yeah, like it I don't understand.
- 49:02Speaker 1: Yeah, get exactly. Okay, So, uh, what was your welcome
- 49:07Speaker 1: moment to the league, to the big leagues? What do
- 49:09Speaker 1: you feel like it was.
- 49:10Speaker 2: In a Korea for a debut? Oh?
- 49:12Speaker 1: Yeah, like that was crazy. That was crazy.
- 49:14Speaker 2: I was like, I didn't expect to go to Korea
- 49:16Speaker 2: for my debut. I expect to get caught up or something,
- 49:18Speaker 2: play at home, but Korea was crazy. It was like
- 49:21Speaker 2: a welcome because the treatment, Yeah treatment there.
- 49:23Speaker 1: Did you enjoy it?
- 49:24Speaker 2: Do you enjoy I've never been out of the country
- 49:26Speaker 2: before that. Oh. I like that was super cool to
- 49:29Speaker 2: kind of get welcome that way.
- 49:31Speaker 1: Nice. Okay, I got one more. Would you ever do
- 49:35Speaker 1: the home run derby?
- 49:36Speaker 2: I would, yeah, but there's no way I would be
- 49:40Speaker 2: good at it.
- 49:41Speaker 1: Like you hit home runs and VP.
- 49:43Speaker 2: I try not to come on the line.
- 49:46Speaker 1: It's easy for you.
- 49:47Speaker 2: I think. I think if I was trying to and
- 49:49Speaker 2: he had a good bpiece or yeah. But like, but
- 49:51Speaker 2: I watched Toddy hit his vps and I'm like, yeah,
- 49:53Speaker 2: I'm not doing the home run derby like that guy
- 49:55Speaker 2: is doing this like.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Not either, He's not doing the home run derby. Everybody
- 49:59Speaker 1: in the home run derby doing that.
- 50:00Speaker 2: So yeah, but like to Oscar, we got the same
- 50:03Speaker 2: swing every swing. Like last year, I was watching the side,
- 50:07Speaker 2: same swing every swing. It's it's incredible because I'll be
- 50:09Speaker 2: a VP and I'll like swing one.
- 50:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:13Speaker 2: Yeah, he is the same motion every time, every single
- 50:15Speaker 2: swing every time.
- 50:16Speaker 1: That's uh, you'll get there. Bro, you're only twenty two,
- 50:19Speaker 1: you know, the tales the same age as me. We're
- 50:21Speaker 1: thirty two, so we've been doing it for a long time.
- 50:23Speaker 1: Some time, you got some time, so uh, bro, I
- 50:27Speaker 1: mean we got a game today, so.
- 50:30Speaker 2: Yeah, we gotta drive too.
- 50:31Speaker 1: I know, we got to drive. Yeah, it's gonna take
- 50:34Speaker 1: us a little minute to get there, but thanks for
- 50:35Speaker 1: coming on.
- 50:36Speaker 2: Man.
- 50:36Speaker 1: I'm glad I got to really know you. You know, I
- 50:39Speaker 1: just know this young kid coming up and uh, everybody
- 50:43Speaker 1: says he's really good and boom, and then you are,
- 50:45Speaker 1: you are really good. And then getting to really see
- 50:48Speaker 1: you how you develop and see the player you're becoming. Bro,
- 50:51Speaker 1: It's it's super dope. It's super awesome and I'm glad.
- 50:54Speaker 1: I'm gonna have a front row seat for pretty much
- 50:56Speaker 1: your whole career, you know what I'm saying, And so
- 50:58Speaker 1: I appreciate it.
- 50:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I appreciate us playing to like that that Dodgers
- 51:03Speaker 2: Padre series, I said all the times, just not a
- 51:05Speaker 2: baseball game, but like that makes you play better.
- 51:07Speaker 1: It does, makes you a better play. It makes you
- 51:09Speaker 1: a better player all the time. Like you have to
- 51:11Speaker 1: you know, you have to come and play a clean,
- 51:14Speaker 1: complete game. And once you learn to do that all
- 51:18Speaker 1: the time, not that you don't, but once you learn
- 51:21Speaker 1: to do that all the time and get to that
- 51:24Speaker 1: mental space of playing a clean, complete game every game,
- 51:27Speaker 1: no matter if it's us or the Pirates or the
- 51:30Speaker 1: Reds or anybody, you know what I'm saying, the Giants, anybody,
- 51:34Speaker 1: like that's when you'll get that understanding of the approach
- 51:38Speaker 1: that you're talking about, and the game will get more
- 51:40Speaker 1: clearer to you, you know what I'm saying.
- 51:42Speaker 2: Like DP he told me, he said, it doesn't matter
- 51:46Speaker 2: what you got that day, It's about getting in the box,
- 51:48Speaker 2: going after it, trying to beat somebody with what you do.
- 51:51Speaker 2: You just realizing that, not worrying about what you did
- 51:53Speaker 2: in the cage, feeling good.
- 51:55Speaker 1: It's hard it's hard. It's hard. It's hard some time. No, no,
- 51:59Speaker 1: you're not so all right, brother, Well, thank you again, man,
- 52:02Speaker 1: and anything you got to say to Padre fans, bro, you.
- 52:05Speaker 2: Know, uh appreciate it. I appreciate everybody.
- 52:09Speaker 1: But keep watching us, guys. You guys are are lucky
- 52:13Speaker 1: you get to get this guy. Man. He's a great dude.
- 52:15Speaker 1: He's a humble dude, and he's going to do a
- 52:18Speaker 1: lot for you guys.
- 52:19Speaker 2: So I learned a lot from Washing. So it's nice
- 52:21Speaker 2: to meet people that I've watched all my life. Of course,
- 52:24Speaker 2: I appreciate it.
- 52:25Speaker 1: All right, guys, We will catch you next time on
