- 1:13Speaker 1: Thank you for joining us.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Thank you for having me.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I love that you are a Juicy Scooper, but it's
- 1:19Speaker 1: not about me.
- 1:20Speaker 2: I am a Juicy Scooper. This is where I get
- 1:22Speaker 2: all of my celebrity news.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Truly.
- 1:24Speaker 2: It's not even in my algorithm. I just listen to
- 1:26Speaker 2: Juicy Scoop. I hear everything I need to know.
- 1:29Speaker 1: I love it because I was introduced to you. Well,
- 1:32Speaker 1: I knew who you were. But Natasha Leggero, who's been
- 1:36Speaker 1: my friend for many years and has been on Juicy Scoop,
- 1:38Speaker 1: she was like, my friend was really like, you know,
- 1:41Speaker 1: wants to be on your show. And I'm like, oh, OK.
- 1:43Speaker 1: And then I'm like, oh, my God, this is Garfunkel
- 1:46Speaker 1: and Oates. And I remember hearing about how funny you
- 1:52Speaker 1: and your partner, Katie, were. And you've had a very interesting,
- 1:58Speaker 1: funny career.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Thank you. Yeah, it's gone a lot of different directions.
- 2:02Speaker 2: It's been, yeah, multifaceted.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Yes, but when I talked to the phone yesterday, you
- 2:07Speaker 1: were like really downplaying yourself. And then I went on
- 2:10Speaker 1: your wiki and you've done so many guest roles, so
- 2:12Speaker 1: many things. I mean, I know you from... And just
- 2:16Speaker 1: to tell people a little bit, like, what a unique,
- 2:19Speaker 1: funny thing it was that you did with Garfunkel and
- 2:22Speaker 1: Oates and how you thought of the name, obviously. Like,
- 2:26Speaker 1: I can figure out how you thought of it, but
- 2:27Speaker 1: explain how you thought of the name.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Well, it was wild.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Well, I was.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I was writing funny songs on my own for like
- 2:33Speaker 2: 10 years. And my partner was also before we met.
- 2:36Speaker 1: How did you meet?
- 2:37Speaker 2: We met, we used to audition for commercials. And do
- 2:41Speaker 2: you remember there was like an era where everyone in commercials,
- 2:44Speaker 2: like all the women had huge eyes? Do you remember that?
- 2:46Speaker 2: That was like, There was, like, the Maxim Girl era in, like,
- 2:49Speaker 2: the early 2000s.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Okay, yeah.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And then that just went away, and it was all
- 2:52Speaker 2: women with enormous eyes.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Okay.
- 2:54Speaker 2: And we would just book every commercial, and that's how
- 2:56Speaker 2: I first met her.
- 2:57Speaker 1: You were booking a lot of commercials, too, because you
- 2:59Speaker 1: had big eyes.
- 3:00Speaker 2: It was just all these girls. No, it was everyone.
- 3:02Speaker 2: It was, like, we were all at the same callbacks.
- 3:04Speaker 2: We were all like, this is weird. Just enormous eyes
- 3:06Speaker 2: just in a room. We're like, okay. And then we
- 3:08Speaker 2: met doing that, and then just became friends at UCB,
- 3:12Speaker 2: and then.
- 3:13Speaker 1: And UCB is.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Upright Citizens Brigade.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Which is like a Groundlings because I talk a lot
- 3:18Speaker 1: about Groundlings on the show. But a little different style
- 3:21Speaker 1: but still sketch, comedy, improv.
- 3:25Speaker 2: But we just met in the lobby.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 3:27Speaker 2: We were kind of like seeing the same show and
- 3:29Speaker 2: we're like, we've seen each other for years at these
- 3:30Speaker 2: callbacks and hi. And then realized we both wrote funny
- 3:34Speaker 2: songs and then started doing it together. And then accidentally.
- 3:38Speaker 1: So you could play the guitar. Oh, yeah. So you
- 3:40Speaker 1: were singing in new instruments and all that. And you like.
- 3:44Speaker 1: chords and everything.
- 3:45Speaker 2: But just for fun.
- 3:46Speaker 1: As a kid, you grew up doing music. Oh, that's
- 3:48Speaker 1: so impressive.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I did flute and piano and guitar and whatever.
- 3:51Speaker 1: So great for fun.
- 3:52Speaker 2: I never thought it could be a career.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Then it really, really was. And we were so surprised.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Okay. And you were telling me on the phone, like
- 4:00Speaker 1: how you accidentally went sort of viral.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Well, we so we'd filmed. I was I was about
- 4:07Speaker 2: to leave to film a movie in South Africa. And
- 4:09Speaker 2: My mom wanted to see this song that we wrote.
- 4:12Speaker 2: And so we filmed it on like a Sony Handycam
- 4:14Speaker 2: just us singing on my couch. And then it wouldn't
- 4:17Speaker 2: connect to email because it was too big. And someone's like, oh,
- 4:20Speaker 2: there's this file sharing thing like YouTube where you can
- 4:22Speaker 2: just upload it and send the YouTube link. And I
- 4:24Speaker 2: was like, great. So that's what I did just to
- 4:27Speaker 2: my mom.
- 4:27Speaker 1: And what year was this?
- 4:28Speaker 2: This was 2007.
- 4:30Speaker 1: OK.
- 4:30Speaker 2: And then and I should have known it was. Not
- 4:33Speaker 2: just a file sharing service, but I thought it was.
- 4:35Speaker 2: And my mom watched it. And then by the time
- 4:37Speaker 2: I got back from South Africa, we had like 10,000
- 4:40Speaker 2: people that had seen it. And I was like, how
- 4:43Speaker 2: did they see this? And then YouTube was putting us
- 4:45Speaker 2: on the front page because there wasn't that many people
- 4:48Speaker 2: making stuff. And so we were just kind of first.
- 4:50Speaker 2: And then we're like, I guess we should make more.
- 4:51Speaker 2: And then it just went from there.
- 4:54Speaker 4: They think you're done for the day, but they don't
- 4:56Speaker 4: know about the drawer.
- 4:58Speaker 1: The drawer. Just the one square before bed. Or two,
- 5:05Speaker 1: you know. Nobody's watching. You deserve a treat.
- 5:12Speaker 4: With eight flavours to choose from, you can choose the
- 5:15Speaker 4: flavour you favour with Cadbury Dairy Milk.
- 5:24Speaker 1: And then you did like the comedy festivals and things
- 5:26Speaker 1: like that.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Yeah, we did Montreal and that's where we like met
- 5:29Speaker 2: everyone in the comedy world and then could start doing
- 5:32Speaker 2: actual shows. Because before that we would like rent out
- 5:35Speaker 2: an art gallery and do a show there. We just
- 5:37Speaker 2: had no connections in the comedy world.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Right. And back then there was such like an alternative
- 5:42Speaker 1: comedy scene where it was really just like a word
- 5:45Speaker 1: of mouth. Like, oh, you're going to do the, what's
- 5:49Speaker 1: the name of the place that starts with an L?
- 5:51Speaker 1: that everyone went to.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Largo?
- 5:53Speaker 3: Yes. Yep.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Largo.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:54Speaker 1: And all of that. And I remember I was, I
- 5:56Speaker 1: was like, I got to get on Largo. I loved going.
- 5:58Speaker 1: And then I remember my agent said, well, you already
- 6:02Speaker 1: perform at the improv and they, don't want any association
- 6:06Speaker 1: with like traditional stand-up. Really? And this is kind of
- 6:10Speaker 1: before they all started doing stand-up and realized like what
- 6:14Speaker 1: we were saying, like it's kind of easy if you
- 6:15Speaker 1: can just do something on your own. So it was
- 6:18Speaker 1: like they didn't want that, what they saw as like hacky. Oh.
- 6:23Speaker 1: But anyway, I still liked going to the shows.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Yeah, there was a divide. It was, like, in the mid-2000s,
- 6:27Speaker 2: it was, like, there was, like, the alt people and then, like,
- 6:29Speaker 2: the road comics.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Yes.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Yeah, there was sort of a divide. I don't know
- 6:32Speaker 2: how we got an alt. We were on YouTube. Like,
- 6:34Speaker 2: I don't know how, you know, we're writing pretty traditional
- 6:37Speaker 2: comedy songs. I don't know how we ended up in
- 6:39Speaker 2: that group.
- 6:40Speaker 1: And so I love that you did this for so long.
- 6:42Speaker 1: And then also you created a show with Natasha called
- 6:46Speaker 1: Another Period. Yes. which was on Comedy Central, which was
- 6:50Speaker 1: so funny. You were just saying Guy Branum also wrote
- 6:52Speaker 1: on that, which is amazing. And it was just so funny.
- 6:57Speaker 1: And you said how you, tell how you guys came
- 7:01Speaker 1: up with it.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Well, we were drinking wine and we wanted to make
- 7:04Speaker 2: a show and Natasha wanted to do something sort of classy,
- 7:08Speaker 2: like Downton Abbey, something about class. And I wanted to
- 7:11Speaker 2: do something like a Kardashians parody kind of thing. And she,
- 7:15Speaker 2: and Natasha was like, well, what if we combine those?
- 7:17Speaker 2: And so we did a reality show set in 1902.
- 7:20Speaker 2: But in America, like New Money America, like if the
- 7:22Speaker 2: Kardashians moved into Downton Abbey was kind of the log line.
- 7:26Speaker 2: And then they just let us do everything. It was wild.
- 7:28Speaker 2: They let us do whatever we wanted. We had barely
- 7:31Speaker 2: any notes and we got to.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Where could someone watch that now? Do you know?
- 7:33Speaker 2: I think it's on Paramount Plus right now. It keeps
- 7:35Speaker 2: sort of bouncing around channels, but I think it's on
- 7:37Speaker 2: Paramount Plus.
- 7:38Speaker 1: All right. That's awesome. Okay. And then you are.
- 7:43Speaker 1: We're pretty recently married.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Yeah, three years ago. Yeah, our third anniversary was June 1st.
- 7:50Speaker 1: To Fred Armisen, who's from SNL, but one of my
- 7:54Speaker 1: favorite shows, Portlandia, which is another one of those shows
- 7:58Speaker 1: that if you've not seen, you could just type in
- 8:01Speaker 1: on Instagram or TikTok, like, Portlandia sketches, and they are
- 8:05Speaker 1: so funny.
- 8:06Speaker 2: So funny.
- 8:06Speaker 1: And it is about this couple... Well, they're not a
- 8:10Speaker 1: couple because they play, like, different characters. It's a sketch
- 8:12Speaker 1: show about people that would live in Portland. Like, how...
- 8:18Speaker 1: I need to know. I know he's not here, but, like,
- 8:21Speaker 1: how did your husband come up with this idea? Because
- 8:25Speaker 1: it's kind of making fun of how ridiculously... super off
- 8:30Speaker 1: the people are in Portland, but in like, in a
- 8:32Speaker 1: way that I'm sure those super off Portland people would
- 8:35Speaker 1: also love it. Love it.
- 8:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:36Speaker 2: It's all done with love. I don't actually know how
- 8:38Speaker 2: they came up with it, but I do know. So
- 8:39Speaker 2: Carrie Brownstein, the other, the person, his partner in it,
- 8:42Speaker 2: she lives in Portland. So it must've been from that somehow.
- 8:46Speaker 2: And Fred genuinely loves Portland.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:48Speaker 2: So I, it must've been that I actually never asked
- 8:51Speaker 2: him how they came up with.
- 8:52Speaker 3: It, but.
- 8:53Speaker 1: I'm just like laughing about like some of the sketches
- 8:56Speaker 1: of like of the character that he would play with
- 8:59Speaker 1: like the long gray hair.
- 9:01Speaker 2: The women in women first bookstore.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Yes.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Yes. And like the person comes in and he's just
- 9:07Speaker 1: coming to like fix the air conditioning just like a
- 9:09Speaker 1: normal guy. And they're like, whoa, you are being really
- 9:12Speaker 1: aggressive right now. And yeah, that's another one that like
- 9:16Speaker 1: if you're looking for like really sharp comedy and you
- 9:19Speaker 1: may have missed it when it came out.
- 9:21Speaker 2: That's on Netflix.
- 9:23Speaker 1: How did you how did you guys meet in this
- 9:26Speaker 1: comedy world?
- 9:27Speaker 2: Well, we both had shows on IFC. I had the
- 9:29Speaker 2: Garfunkel and Oates show and he had Portlandia and there
- 9:31Speaker 2: weren't that many shows on IFC. So I think we
- 9:33Speaker 2: met in sort of doing events for our shows like
- 9:37Speaker 2: back in the day.
- 9:37Speaker 1: And was there an attraction back then? No.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Oh, no, there just wasn't. Well, he was in a relationship. And,
- 9:45Speaker 2: you know, when someone's taken, you're not like you're just
- 9:48Speaker 2: you don't think about them. And then, yeah, then we
- 9:51Speaker 2: were friends for like 15 years. and then we both
- 9:53Speaker 2: got cast in that show Wednesday. And we were in
- 9:55Speaker 2: Romania for months on end, and then that's where we
- 9:58Speaker 2: fell in love. because what do you do in Romania
- 10:00Speaker 2: like we just might as well.
- 10:03Speaker 1: So did who made the first move like you're hanging
- 10:05Speaker 1: out as friends oh.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Really yeah I did how did you do it I
- 10:08Speaker 2: sent him a text.
- 10:10Speaker 1: So you're just friends on set yeah and you what
- 10:12Speaker 1: had a little break that night.
- 10:14Speaker 2: It was well so you know everyone when you're Have
- 10:18Speaker 2: you ever done something on location, like a movie on location?
- 10:20Speaker 1: Yeah, but a little bit. You know what I did?
- 10:23Speaker 1: I did Bachelorette.
- 10:25Speaker 2: Oh, but you had dinner with everyone every night, right?
- 10:27Speaker 1: No, because it was COVID, so I had to be
- 10:29Speaker 1: alone in my room for five days.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Dang.
- 10:31Speaker 1: And then I didn't want to, yeah, and the guys
- 10:35Speaker 1: were like, So, no, I've never had an opportunity to
- 10:38Speaker 1: fall in love with someone else, and I would love it.
- 10:39Speaker 2: It's like going to camp. It's like you have dinner
- 10:43Speaker 2: with your co-stars and crew every night.
- 10:45Speaker 1: And that's why a lot of affairs and stuff do happen.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Because you're with them all the time. And, yeah, I
- 10:50Speaker 2: just started having feelings and didn't really know what to
- 10:54Speaker 2: do with them because it's sort of inappropriate at work.
- 10:59Speaker 2: And Fred doesn't drink, so there was no way to
- 11:01Speaker 2: have it be like, oops. So it was just all–
- 11:04Speaker 2: You know, it was all just so clean cut. And
- 11:05Speaker 2: I was like, well, I guess I just have to
- 11:08Speaker 2: tell the truth.
- 11:09Speaker 1: And so what did you write?
- 11:10Speaker 2: I just sent him a text being like, I know
- 11:12Speaker 2: this is like weird timing. I waited till he was
- 11:13Speaker 2: done filming. OK. And once he was done, I was like, OK,
- 11:16Speaker 2: now I can. Because I didn't want him to be
- 11:18Speaker 2: stuck in Romania with me, uncomfortable.
- 11:19Speaker 1: And neither of you was like a producer where you
- 11:22Speaker 1: could then be in trouble for getting together. You were
- 11:25Speaker 1: at the same level. Same level.
- 11:27Speaker 2: But I just, I don't know.
- 11:28Speaker 1: I was like, I can just wait.
- 11:30Speaker 2: And then, yeah, and then I was like, I think
- 11:31Speaker 2: you should be my boyfriend.
- 11:33Speaker 1: That's what you said in the text?
- 11:34Speaker 2: That was my opening offer, yeah.
- 11:35Speaker 1: And what did he, how long before he wrote back?
- 11:38Speaker 2: He literally wrote back, he goes, is this for me?
- 11:40Speaker 2: He thought it was for someone else. Because we had
- 11:42Speaker 2: not been, like, flirting.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 11:43Speaker 2: But I was just like, yeah, I was just, like,
- 11:46Speaker 2: having feelings. And I was like, well, might as well,
- 11:49Speaker 2: when you're friends with someone that long, like, you can't
- 11:51Speaker 2: be like, we should go to dinner. It's like, we
- 11:53Speaker 2: go to dinner every night.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Okay.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Might as well just say it. And so I just
- 11:56Speaker 2: said it.
- 11:57Speaker 1: And were you scared like before you press send? Totally.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Completely. Completely. Yeah.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Did you consult with one to 12 girlfriends about whether
- 12:06Speaker 1: you should do this? Just one.
- 12:08Speaker 2: I called my most like wild friend. I was like,
- 12:11Speaker 2: who's my friend who would do this?
- 12:12Speaker 1: That would say go for it. Yes.
- 12:14Speaker 2: And so I just asked her because my other friends
- 12:16Speaker 2: would have been like, what?
- 12:17Speaker 1: No.
- 12:18Speaker 2: So I asked just one person. And she was like,
- 12:20Speaker 2: I think you just have to say the truth. And
- 12:22Speaker 2: I was like, well, if I'm going to tell the truth,
- 12:24Speaker 2: I might as well just say it.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Okay, so he goes, is this for me? And then what?
- 12:27Speaker 1: I said, yes. And then what?
- 12:29Speaker 2: And he was like, where is this? Whoa, okay. Wow.
- 12:34Speaker 2: He's like, I'm just kind of shocked. And then he
- 12:37Speaker 2: was like, should we have dinner and talk about it
- 12:39Speaker 2: tomorrow night? And I was like, yep. And then from
- 12:42Speaker 2: then on, it.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Was just a date. Okay, so then when was the
- 12:44Speaker 1: first kiss then?
- 12:45Speaker 2: The next night.
- 12:46Speaker 1: At the dinner or at the end?
- 12:48Speaker 2: At the end, yeah.
- 12:48Speaker 1: And then who leaned over for the first kiss?
- 12:51Speaker 2: He did.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Oh, thank God.
- 12:51Speaker 2: I mean, I've already done so much.
- 12:53Speaker 1: I can't keep, like, yeah. And that is great.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I really put it out there. I'm just like, well,
- 12:59Speaker 2: what do I have to lose?
- 13:01Speaker 1: It's really funny because my episode just a couple days ago,
- 13:05Speaker 1: we talked about Meghan Markle supposedly going for it and
- 13:10Speaker 1: finding out who's going to be at this party. And
- 13:12Speaker 1: I was like, I think that's all great. Who cares?
- 13:15Speaker 1: And I Had a couple people write me and were like,
- 13:17Speaker 1: I really think it's interesting that Heather said that like women,
- 13:21Speaker 1: especially nowadays, should go for the guy. And so this
- 13:26Speaker 1: one woman wrote me and she's like, I was like
- 13:29Speaker 1: at like a karaoke or trivia night or something and
- 13:31Speaker 1: this guy was really cute and I sent him over
- 13:34Speaker 1: a shot.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 13:35Speaker 1: And he had noticed me, but he was too scared
- 13:37Speaker 1: to approach myself because she was at the table of 12.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Right.
- 13:41Speaker 1: No guy wants to go up to a table of 12.
- 13:43Speaker 2: That's terrifying.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Anyway, they got engaged six months later. They've been married
- 13:46Speaker 1: for 12 years.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:47Speaker 1: So I'm just saying like, you know, best dating advice.
- 13:51Speaker 2: She was like, if he's like very, very into you,
- 13:53Speaker 2: there's like almost nothing you can do to lose him.
- 13:55Speaker 2: And if he's not into you, there's almost nothing you
- 13:57Speaker 2: can do to keep him. Oh, that is so good.
- 14:01Speaker 2: If they're into you in that way, they don't care
- 14:04Speaker 2: who asks who out. They don't care.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Yeah, they're not going to turn you off by an
- 14:08Speaker 1: outfit or a weird hairdo that day.
- 14:10Speaker 2: And if they're not into you, no amount of games,
- 14:12Speaker 2: no outfit. It's just, yeah. Not to put it all
- 14:16Speaker 2: in them, because you have to be into them too,
- 14:17Speaker 2: but it's just like, it doesn't matter.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Yeah, that is a really good point. So, okay.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Do you think there's anything you could have done to
- 14:26Speaker 2: turn off your husband at the beginning? Probably not.
- 14:29Speaker 1: No, I found out years later, years later, that he
- 14:34Speaker 1: said to his sister, who I like very much, and
- 14:37Speaker 1: she goes, oh, and then one day just Peter said, oh,
- 14:40Speaker 1: I think I'm going to marry this girl. She's just
- 14:42Speaker 1: so fun. And it was just like that kind of like.
- 14:46Speaker 1: confidence too that a guy would have like I didn't
- 14:49Speaker 1: even want to say like oh I think this is
- 14:51Speaker 1: the one because then back then my friends were all
- 14:54Speaker 1: like don't jinx it it was like we would do
- 14:56Speaker 1: don't jinx it instead of manifest it right and like
- 15:00Speaker 1: see it believe it achieve it like that was not
- 15:02Speaker 1: in a vocab so it was kind of like oh
- 15:04Speaker 1: better keep this to yourself you know and um yeah
- 15:09Speaker 1: and then with my sister when she found her husband
- 15:11Speaker 1: and I was like we dated so many guys like
- 15:14Speaker 1: in our 20s and I'm like why, how do you
- 15:16Speaker 1: know that he is the one? And she just was like, well,
- 15:19Speaker 1: it's just so easy. And it was that exact thing.
- 15:22Speaker 1: I don't have to worry about, like, are we doing
- 15:24Speaker 1: something this weekend? Is he going to call me? Do
- 15:27Speaker 1: I have to analyze this text? Do I need to,
- 15:29Speaker 1: you know, get a form going with girlfriends to, you know, yeah.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Yeah, if you need that, it's probably not. I mean,
- 15:36Speaker 2: he might still be worth dating, boyfriend is situated, but
- 15:39Speaker 2: he's not the one.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Right.
- 15:40Speaker 2: The one is, like, into you.
- 15:42Speaker 1: So then how did you get engaged?
- 15:44Speaker 2: It was, like, Very quickly after that.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Really? Yeah.
- 15:48Speaker 2: It was very quickly after that.
- 15:49Speaker 1: How did he ask you?
- 15:50Speaker 2: He sort of did and sort of didn't. Like, I
- 15:54Speaker 2: was like, I was kind of, well, because I always
- 15:57Speaker 2: said I never wanted to get married. Ever, ever, ever.
- 15:59Speaker 2: And then I was, like, starting to change my mind.
- 16:01Speaker 2: And I was like, you know, if you ask me,
- 16:03Speaker 2: whatever you ask me, I'll probably say yes. That's what
- 16:04Speaker 2: I said.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 16:05Speaker 2: And he was like, do you want to get married?
- 16:07Speaker 2: And I was like, are we going to get married?
- 16:08Speaker 2: And I was like, yeah, I think we are. And
- 16:09Speaker 2: he was like, okay, great. That was the whole thing.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I want to get to the juiciest part of your life. Yes.
- 16:15Speaker 1: But first, I want to just go through some other topics.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Since you are a juicy scooper, I want to give
- 16:20Speaker 1: you the opportunity to weigh in on some stuff. Since
- 16:22Speaker 1: we're talking about dating, supposedly TMZ is reporting that there's
- 16:27Speaker 1: a new option on Tinder, which is something I know
- 16:31Speaker 1: a lot about, though I've never been on it, obviously,
- 16:34Speaker 1: that you now can search or filtrate your search based
- 16:40Speaker 1: on height. And obviously, that That means more to a
- 16:46Speaker 1: woman dating a man than a man like saying, I
- 16:49Speaker 1: only want a tiny person or I only want a
- 16:51Speaker 1: tall person. And I just think that is, yeah, I
- 16:57Speaker 1: don't think that's a good idea. As someone who's tall,
- 16:59Speaker 1: as someone who would ask people when they were like
- 17:02Speaker 1: setting me up how tall, how tall, I think that
- 17:05Speaker 1: is dumb.
- 17:06Speaker 2: I think it's so dumb. And I think you're sleeping
- 17:07Speaker 2: on some of the best men.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Yes.
- 17:09Speaker 2: If you have that as a prerequisite, then you're cutting off.
- 17:13Speaker 2: You're short-sighted, for lack of a better term. You're cutting
- 17:16Speaker 2: off a huge pool of men. Yeah, I think that's crazy.
- 17:20Speaker 2: My husband's shorter than me. I don't care. Yeah. And
- 17:22Speaker 2: when I was 30, I had a boyfriend who was
- 17:24Speaker 2: significantly shorter than me. And at first, I was like,
- 17:26Speaker 2: I don't know. And then I was like, oh, I
- 17:28Speaker 2: don't care at all. This is great.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Like, it doesn't matter.
- 17:32Speaker 1: It's, like, silly.
- 17:33Speaker 2: And it's weird how on TV that the women are
- 17:36Speaker 2: still always shorter than the men. And we just accept
- 17:38Speaker 2: that as, like.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Normal things. Right.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Where it has to be. I'm like, what is this
- 17:42Speaker 2: barrier that we can't seem to break? Like you can't
- 17:44Speaker 2: you don't see it anywhere on television or in movies
- 17:46Speaker 2: that the woman's taller. And so we're sort of conditioned
- 17:49Speaker 2: like like from a young age that we have to
- 17:52Speaker 2: have a taller partner. And it's just lies.
- 17:54Speaker 1: So I grew up in L.A. So we had we
- 17:57Speaker 1: knew people like several times.
- 18:01Speaker 2: A year.
- 18:01Speaker 1: They'd be like, oh, my God, we have to get
- 18:03Speaker 1: home and turn on this because our neighbor is a
- 18:06Speaker 1: guest role or this person's on a show or whatever.
- 18:09Speaker 1: And so a good friend of ours, sister, who we
- 18:13Speaker 1: were friendly with too, her name was Claire. She got
- 18:18Speaker 1: a spinoff of Dallas called The Colbys. And she was
- 18:21Speaker 1: like a model. And so there was this hot scene
- 18:24Speaker 1: where she's kissing, you know, someone on the beach. And
- 18:28Speaker 1: so then we immediately like called her after and we're like, oh,
- 18:30Speaker 1: my God, we just saw you both. And she's like, yeah,
- 18:33Speaker 1: to do that scene, they had to dig a hole
- 18:35Speaker 1: in the sand and put me in the hole.
- 18:37Speaker 3: God, no.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Because the guy was short and she was a model. Oh,
- 18:41Speaker 1: my God.
- 18:41Speaker 2: I wish they had filmed that. I'd love to see.
- 18:43Speaker 2: That is so funny. I wish she'd had a social
- 18:45Speaker 2: media person filming that. But, yeah, it's forbidden on television
- 18:49Speaker 2: unless it's a joke. I don't understand it.
- 18:51Speaker 1: I remember there was a couple. We were going to
- 18:53Speaker 1: go out to dinner with them when my kids were young.
- 18:55Speaker 1: And my friend was like, oh, we're going to all
- 18:57Speaker 1: go to this restaurant. And the four of us are
- 18:59Speaker 1: driving together to meet this other couple. And she's like,
- 19:03Speaker 1: you know, she does this and he does this and
- 19:05Speaker 1: they have three kids and twins. And she goes, but
- 19:08Speaker 1: I have to warn you, she is a former model
- 19:13Speaker 1: and tall and he is not. And she's like, and
- 19:18Speaker 1: he's very small. And I'm just letting you know, it's
- 19:20Speaker 1: quite alarming to the eye. I remember her saying that.
- 19:24Speaker 2: It's quite alarming. It's quite alarming.
- 19:26Speaker 1: And I was like, okay, but. I got why she
- 19:31Speaker 1: might have had to say it.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Was it that big of a difference?
- 19:34Speaker 1: Yes.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Okay.
- 19:35Speaker 1: They're both very attractive. He was fit.
- 19:39Speaker 2: He was like a tiny twin.
- 19:40Speaker 3: Yes.
- 19:41Speaker 1: And he loved it. He loved that she was tall.
- 19:44Speaker 1: He loved that he got a tall girl. And they, I,
- 19:47Speaker 1: to my knowledge, still married, whatever. But anyway, no, I
- 19:50Speaker 1: agree with that. I don't think, I think, um, you know,
- 19:54Speaker 1: it's just.
- 19:55Speaker 2: It's the patriarchy. It's subconscious patriarchal conditioning from watching TV
- 19:59Speaker 2: and movies that your man has to be taller than you.
- 20:02Speaker 2: He doesn't.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, I think the apps are great. I
- 20:05Speaker 1: think because you're, For the most part, meaning people that
- 20:08Speaker 1: are single, so there isn't that scaring of approaching. But
- 20:11Speaker 1: then when there's too much of a filter thing, you
- 20:14Speaker 1: already know what they look like. You already know what
- 20:15Speaker 1: they do. You know their religion. You know da-da-da-da-da. And
- 20:20Speaker 1: then this too.
- 20:20Speaker 2: I think men get filtered out for height and women
- 20:23Speaker 2: get filtered out for age.
- 20:24Speaker 1: True. But I was just talking to a friend of
- 20:27Speaker 1: ours who is like my age and divorced. And he
- 20:32Speaker 1: said he only wants a woman over 43.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Smart.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Because he doesn't want any more kids. And even if
- 20:40Speaker 1: someone who's 35 would say, oh, no, I don't want them.
- 20:44Speaker 1: You don't know that. So it's like there's a benefit.
- 20:47Speaker 1: You know, there's a positive, too, to someone that's like done,
- 20:51Speaker 1: you know, or doesn't want kids or can't.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Or already has a kid and it's just part of
- 20:55Speaker 2: the package or whatever.
- 20:55Speaker 1: It's not going to be a discussion at all.
- 20:58Speaker 4: Looking for a getaway that's truly special? Ireland's Blue Book

- 21:15Speaker 4: your next luxury escape.
- 21:18Speaker 3: I'm Darman, and this is What Happens Next. Each week
- 21:22Speaker 3: on the show, I sit down with extraordinary people who
- 21:25Speaker 3: have faced tremendous setbacks and yet somehow have found a
- 21:29Speaker 3: way to turn them into their greatest strengths.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Life is one long lesson of chaos.
- 21:35Speaker 1: I'm heading to the Emmys, and I have police complaints
- 21:37Speaker 1: filed against me.
- 21:38Speaker 2: When your free will was about to be taken from you,
- 21:40Speaker 2: what would you do if it was given back?
- 21:43Speaker 3: Where did that need come from where you thought that
- 21:46Speaker 3: you had to succeed in order to feel loved?
- 21:48Speaker 1: He said, I have a work dad.
- 21:49Speaker 3: I need a home dad.
- 21:50Speaker 2: What happens next?
- 21:51Speaker 1: When I came in, he started crying.
- 21:53Speaker 3: Everybody in life encounters hardships. What defines them is not
- 21:57Speaker 3: those hard moments that they go through.
- 22:00Speaker 2: It's about what happens next. I decided to risk it all.
- 22:03Speaker 1: I realized how valuable every day was. You're worth the work.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Listen, Dara, I'm not going to pull punches.
- 22:08Speaker 1: You can use your voice even if it's shaped.
- 22:10Speaker 3: The stories are different, but the impact is the same.
- 22:13Speaker 3: Only one question matters. What happens next?
- 22:24Speaker 1: Well, here's some other breaking news. Erika Jayne of Real
- 22:28Speaker 1: Housewives Beverly Hills, her ex, Tom Girardi, is sentenced to
- 22:32Speaker 1: seven years in prison after a wire fraud conviction. And,
- 22:37Speaker 1: I mean, he looked absolutely horrible coming out of the— but,
- 22:39Speaker 1: you know, he is really old.
- 22:40Speaker 2: How old is he? Is he 80-something?
- 22:42Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. He's like 86 or something. And he, you know,
- 22:47Speaker 1: claims to have had Alzheimer's and dementia. Yeah. The judge,
- 22:51Speaker 1: I guess, decided you don't because he's going to regular prison.
- 22:54Speaker 1: His team had, you know, pushed for just like, you know,
- 22:58Speaker 1: an old home facility or something. But no, he's going
- 23:01Speaker 1: to full blown prison.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Wow. Wow.
- 23:04Speaker 2: I mean, it was come. It was round.
- 23:06Speaker 1: I mean, he deserves it.
- 23:07Speaker 2: No, I know. He he robbed people for so long.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Right. Right.
- 23:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Such a sad legacy. Like starting with Aaron Brockovich and ending.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Like it's so sad.
- 23:16Speaker 1: But yeah, he.
- 23:17Speaker 2: He should go to jail, I guess. I don't know
- 23:19Speaker 2: about the Alzheimer's part.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, now it's just kind of, yeah, it's
- 23:22Speaker 1: kind of done. And, you know, yeah. So that's the
- 23:25Speaker 1: conclusion of it.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Is there like a medical wing of a jail that
- 23:27Speaker 2: he could be treated in or like what?
- 23:30Speaker 1: They're probably just like an assisted living. They probably have
- 23:36Speaker 1: an elderly Alzheimer's unit that would just require a little
- 23:41Speaker 1: more care. Yeah. And.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Yeah. But yeah, he has to go to jail.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:45Speaker 2: It's not okay.
- 23:47Speaker 1: So let's talk about The Valley. Okay. You're a fan.
- 23:49Speaker 1: You've been watching.
- 23:50Speaker 2: I love The Valley. I love Vanderpump Rules. It's just
- 23:52Speaker 2: such a good, it's such a dark extension of it.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Yes.
- 23:55Speaker 2: Because Vanderpump Rules was always kind of dark, but it
- 23:58Speaker 2: was light, like, in the fact they were young. There
- 24:00Speaker 2: was no stakes.
- 24:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:01Speaker 2: And now that they have kids, it's, like, so dark.
- 24:03Speaker 1: They have the kids, and the fact that, like, all
- 24:07Speaker 1: three couples, Tom Schwartz and Katie, and then Ariana and Scandival,
- 24:13Speaker 1: Tom Scandival, and then Jackson, Brittany, they all just a
- 24:17Speaker 1: few years ago bought those.
- 24:19Speaker 2: Exact same houses.
- 24:20Speaker 1: The houses that were redone and the farmhouse look in
- 24:23Speaker 1: the same neighborhood, which was like, you know, sparked the
- 24:26Speaker 1: idea of like continuing the show on here. That they're
- 24:29Speaker 1: all broken up.
- 24:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:31Speaker 1: And.
- 24:31Speaker 2: It's for the better.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Oh, of course it's for the better.
- 24:34Speaker 2: They were all miserable together.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:36Speaker 2: It's weird when you see a show and you're rooting
- 24:38Speaker 2: for everyone to not have love. Well, it's usually the opposite.
- 24:42Speaker 2: You're like, oh, I want them to get together. But
- 24:43Speaker 2: you're like, no, I want them to live their happiest
- 24:46Speaker 2: life away from each other completely.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Well, it's like anybody that stays together. It's like, well,
- 24:51Speaker 1: we own a house together. We have kids together. Whatever,
- 24:54Speaker 1: the church, the family. They really did. When Tom Sandoval, which,
- 25:00Speaker 1: of course, I was on Ariana's side the whole time.
- 25:03Speaker 1: But when he has said, our relationship wasn't good, but
- 25:08Speaker 1: we stayed together because of this brand. And people are like,
- 25:11Speaker 1: what Brent? I think he means the show. Yeah. The
- 25:15Speaker 1: show where we film, we have each other's back. They
- 25:20Speaker 1: had revealed over the years that she didn't want kids
- 25:22Speaker 1: with him. Then she did. They weren't sleeping together. No
- 25:26Speaker 1: excuse for cheating with Rachel Raquel. But just break up.
- 25:31Speaker 1: It is a hard thing when it's like you don't
- 25:34Speaker 1: just have people rooting for you to stay together. You
- 25:37Speaker 1: have the world that is... you know, either liked you
- 25:41Speaker 1: as a couple or as, like, relationship goals or all
- 25:44Speaker 1: that kind of shit.
- 25:45Speaker 2: They did seem like that. Tom seemed like the nice guy.
- 25:48Speaker 2: They seemed like this, like, sort of perfect couple.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Like, oh, no. Because no one's ever like, oh, James
- 25:53Speaker 2: and Raquel, perfect couple. Like, no one thinks Jax and Brittany,
- 25:56Speaker 2: perfect couple. But they just seemed, like, so solid where
- 25:59Speaker 2: it was really just sad.
- 26:01Speaker 1: And then, like, with Jax and Brittany, I just feel like, yeah,
- 26:04Speaker 1: I mean, of course she's finally, like, coming to, but
- 26:07Speaker 1: it's also, it's like the world... She knows the world
- 26:12Speaker 1: is like, we told you so over and over and
- 26:15Speaker 1: over again. And why did you do it? Is because
- 26:18Speaker 1: you loved being on the show so much? I think
- 26:22Speaker 1: like anybody, again, she did believe she loved him or
- 26:27Speaker 1: did at the time. But also all of it, too.
- 26:30Speaker 1: It's the same reason people don't leave Scientology or the
- 26:33Speaker 1: Mormon church. It's like, this is your show. Like, had
- 26:36Speaker 1: she dumped him after... The, you know, the thing that
- 26:41Speaker 1: happened with the girl that was the.
- 26:43Speaker 2: With Faith?
- 26:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 26:45Speaker 1: After that happened, where he was caught cheating and admitted
- 26:49Speaker 1: to it and everything, and she decided to, like, take
- 26:51Speaker 1: him back. Like, yeah, what would happen if she had been, like, no?
- 26:56Speaker 2: She would have been off the show.
- 26:57Speaker 1: I mean, how would they.
- 26:58Speaker 2: You lose everything.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Yeah, they would not have kept her around. Mm-hmm. But
- 27:02Speaker 1: I'm not saying that's the only reason, but I'm saying
- 27:04Speaker 1: it's all of it together. It's then him coming and
- 27:07Speaker 1: convincing her. And also just anybody that's been with someone
- 27:10Speaker 1: for more than a few years and they're inching towards, like,
- 27:14Speaker 1: fertility and everything, that they're like, well, I don't want
- 27:17Speaker 1: to start all over again. And I do love this asshole.
- 27:20Speaker 1: And I, you know, and he is hot. He is hot.
- 27:23Speaker 2: And he is charming.
- 27:24Speaker 1: He's convincing.
- 27:25Speaker 2: But, yeah, he's become less and less convincing, I think,
- 27:28Speaker 2: in the last year.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 27:29Speaker 2: I just don't buy it.
- 27:31Speaker 1: And then. And it is funny that Brittany just does
- 27:35Speaker 1: laugh about it now. She's just like, he's so ridiculous
- 27:39Speaker 1: that she just like talking to his sister and she's like, wait,
- 27:43Speaker 1: how does he know that we're filming? There must still be,
- 27:45Speaker 1: there must be bugs in the house because I already
- 27:47Speaker 1: covered all the ring cameras in the house. And then
- 27:51Speaker 1: she's just like, it's crazy.
- 27:52Speaker 2: See, that is the same attitude that let her like
- 27:55Speaker 2: stay with him for so long. Like I would have
- 27:56Speaker 2: lost my mind. And she's just very like, well, maybe
- 27:59Speaker 2: he's bugging me.
- 28:00Speaker 3: That's Jax.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:01Speaker 2: I'm like, he found the perfect woman. It is funny
- 28:04Speaker 2: that all those sort of canceled people from Vanderpump are
- 28:07Speaker 2: now like, no, we're not. It's fine. No one's canceled.
- 28:09Speaker 2: You know, they're like just back. It's fine.
- 28:12Speaker 1: So, okay. I want to bring up something on the screen. Okay.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Because I've been like, who does this guy remind me of? And,
- 28:20Speaker 1: I mean, he is an actor. We have him here.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Of Nia and Danny. The trial of Danny seems to
- 28:28Speaker 1: have finally come to a conclusion last night.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Good.
- 28:31Speaker 1: That, you know, while Jax is in rehab for alcohol
- 28:37Speaker 1: and cocaine, he took a shot of tequila and went
- 28:40Speaker 1: to sleep.
- 28:41Speaker 2: On the day that everyone was at the winery.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:43Speaker 2: It's like, everyone's wasted. Like, who cares?
- 28:46Speaker 1: Anyway. Anyway. I was like, who does he remind me of?
- 28:48Speaker 1: And then I'm like, oh my God. It's Nick Lachey.
- 28:53Speaker 1: They look alike. They sound alike. They have the same
- 28:57Speaker 1: kind of hair.
- 28:58Speaker 2: That squinty swagger.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Yes. Oh, weird.
- 29:02Speaker 2: They are so alike.
- 29:04Speaker 1: I mean, honestly, if there's any, I know he's an
- 29:06Speaker 1: actor too, Danny. Like if there's ever something for brothers,
- 29:10Speaker 1: they could play.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Or if they do the newlywed story as a movie
- 29:14Speaker 2: or something, he could get that role.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Um anyway but uh what else are you thinking you
- 29:21Speaker 1: know janet just posted this awful dm she got from
- 29:27Speaker 1: a stranger or not um you know some anonymous person
- 29:32Speaker 1: i'm sure writing just this really horrific thing to her
- 29:35Speaker 1: and she like posted it and was like, please, this
- 29:37Speaker 1: is just a show, you know.
- 29:39Speaker 2: What did it say?
- 29:40Speaker 1: Oh, it said, like, I know where you live. I
- 29:43Speaker 1: know where your kid goes to school or preschool. I
- 29:46Speaker 1: don't even know. It was all this kind of weird
- 29:48Speaker 1: threat that either the person doesn't know anything.
- 29:52Speaker 3: Right.
- 29:53Speaker 1: And this is just a fun game to like a
- 29:55Speaker 1: small group of Bravo fans that want to just see
- 30:00Speaker 1: how you'll react. And or I'm like, or it could
- 30:04Speaker 1: be in front of me.
- 30:05Speaker 2: I have a cynical point of view on this. Like, yes,
- 30:08Speaker 2: I think that's the sign that she's making it. I
- 30:11Speaker 2: think that's the sign that she's like here to stay
- 30:13Speaker 2: in reality TV. If you start getting like everyone always
- 30:17Speaker 2: likes the people who are just sort of benign and
- 30:19Speaker 2: they don't get any hate. People start attacking you on
- 30:21Speaker 2: that level. It means like you're interesting.
- 30:24Speaker 1: Well, that's a good lemonade out of it for her
- 30:26Speaker 1: to hear. I've met her many times. I really like her.
- 30:30Speaker 1: I mean, it's a show. We're watching it. I don't
- 30:33Speaker 1: know what it's all about, why someone is... But it's
- 30:37Speaker 1: like sports. It's like they... The housewives are sports to
- 30:44Speaker 1: a lot of women and men. And just, like, people
- 30:47Speaker 1: want to, like, you know, go to the games and
- 30:50Speaker 1: wear their outfits and bet and fight for their person
- 30:53Speaker 1: and get in an argument with their neighbor who likes
- 30:56Speaker 1: the other team. Like, I just think there's something about, like, oh.
- 30:59Speaker 1: And then there's this weird part that happens with women
- 31:02Speaker 1: where they are so involved in watching this reality show
- 31:08Speaker 1: that they really get jealous.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:11Speaker 1: And they, because of Janet's history, where she was a
- 31:13Speaker 1: girl who came out here, made friends with Sheena, and
- 31:18Speaker 1: eventually now is a star of a show, has a
- 31:21Speaker 1: really great, cute husband, has a baby. To some miserable people,
- 31:25Speaker 1: she has too much.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Too much.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Too much. And she got thin after the baby. And she's,
- 31:31Speaker 1: you know, getting cuter. And they are just like. Like,
- 31:35Speaker 1: I'm gonna, I wanna see if I can break this person.
- 31:37Speaker 2: They wanna dim her light.
- 31:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna see if I can break.
- 31:40Speaker 2: They see her becoming more, like, the first season, she
- 31:42Speaker 2: was a little more reserved.
- 31:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:43Speaker 2: She wasn't really a breakout for me the first season,
- 31:45Speaker 2: and the second season, I'm like, oh, she's good at this.
- 31:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:48Speaker 2: It's like, she's a little bit like Ashina, where she's, like,
- 31:53Speaker 2: sort of, she's charming, and she's sort of bringing things up, like,
- 31:56Speaker 2: in sort of a sleuth kind of way.
- 31:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:59Speaker 2: Where she's not like, this is what you are. She's like,
- 32:01Speaker 2: I heard a thing, and like.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:03Speaker 1: So I think, but I, you know, my advice to
- 32:08Speaker 1: her and to anybody in this situation is obviously delete
- 32:13Speaker 1: and block. But like, if you don't see it, if
- 32:17Speaker 1: you can avoid yourself from seeing it and by posting
- 32:22Speaker 1: that too. that really got this person happy. Whoever this
- 32:26Speaker 1: person is, could be a call coming from inside the house.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Not meeting her husband. It's probably someone she went to
- 32:32Speaker 2: high school with. They're jealous.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it could be a frenemy. It could be even
- 32:36Speaker 1: closer than that. Sometimes I think with all this stuff,
- 32:39Speaker 1: I'm always wondering, is it like, this is pretty dark,
- 32:45Speaker 1: but with the writing on these pages and stuff, I'm like,
- 32:48Speaker 1: who's to say that this isn't the producer's that are
- 32:52Speaker 1: throwing it out there, then doing a screen grab, sending
- 32:57Speaker 1: it to another cast member. I saw so-and-so's husband without
- 33:00Speaker 1: a ring. And that's where it came from. And it
- 33:03Speaker 1: really never came from a real person saying they saw it.
- 33:06Speaker 2: I never thought of that, the producers. I mean, it's genius.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Right. And then they're like, I don't know. I got
- 33:12Speaker 1: the weirdest DM. What did you get? I guess on
- 33:14Speaker 1: the Vanderpump Reddit page, someone saw so-and-so out of bar
- 33:18Speaker 1: without his ring. And then they like chalk that or
- 33:22Speaker 1: the producer goes, bring that up. Like, I don't know.
- 33:25Speaker 1: And then someone at home is like, what a bitch.
- 33:28Speaker 1: She brought it up. We are watching a show. Just
- 33:31Speaker 1: like Janet said, for entertainment purposes.
- 33:33Speaker 2: And you want them to do the thing that you
- 33:34Speaker 2: wouldn't do.
- 33:35Speaker 1: You want to confirm. You would just be like, they're weird.
- 33:38Speaker 1: We don't need to invite them to the party. No,
- 33:40Speaker 1: these people need to continue to see each other and
- 33:42Speaker 1: fuck with each other.
- 33:43Speaker 2: And we want our reality stars looking at their DMs
- 33:44Speaker 2: and posting them. That's what we want from them.
- 33:46Speaker 1: Because we wouldn't do it.
- 33:47Speaker 2: It's like, if she were my friend, I'd be like,
- 33:49Speaker 2: don't read it.
- 33:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:50Speaker 2: But I want her to do that. I want her to, like, be.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Right.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Interesting. It's that, like, vicarious.
- 33:56Speaker 1: But as a friend, I'd be like, if it's getting
- 34:00Speaker 1: you to a place where you aren't at the level
- 34:03Speaker 1: of the Kardashian with the blinders on yet, yet, as
- 34:06Speaker 1: Meghan Markle will say, yet. I'm not there yet.
- 34:11Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:12Speaker 1: If you're not there yet, it's best that you just...
- 34:16Speaker 1: don't search it or look for it.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Yeah, don't look at it. I don't look at my DMs.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Or have someone, you know, if you have an assistant,
- 34:22Speaker 1: have them, like, go out. You know, just for your own, like, mental.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Because then if you don't see it, you won't address it,
- 34:28Speaker 1: and they want you to address it so badly.
- 34:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:30Speaker 1: You know?
- 34:31Speaker 2: They want to know they, like, dinged you a little bit.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Yeah. So, okay, moving on. Okay, after that, after last
- 34:38Speaker 1: night's show was the Next Gen, which has several housewives'
- 34:43Speaker 1: kids in it.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Oh, I haven't seen this.
- 34:45Speaker 1: Is it good? I watched a little bit of it.
- 34:48Speaker 1: I mean, let's give it a chance. I mean, I
- 34:52Speaker 1: think this part's juicy. Okay. So Ariana Berman, who is
- 34:57Speaker 1: Kim Zolciak and her now ex-husband, who adopted she and Brielle.
- 35:03Speaker 1: So that's why they have the last name Berman. But
- 35:05Speaker 1: of course, you know, Kim Zolciak and her husband had
- 35:09Speaker 1: a very bad breakup. We've seen way too many cop cams.
- 35:12Speaker 1: from Atlanta of like them fighting over, like he took
- 35:15Speaker 1: my purses and she needs to stop gambling and whatever
- 35:19Speaker 1: it is. So this girl, Ariana is the younger daughter
- 35:25Speaker 1: and she is in the show in New York with
- 35:29Speaker 1: her boyfriend who, whose parents are very wealthy. He, the
- 35:33Speaker 1: parents own some fast food chain. I've never heard of,
- 35:35Speaker 1: but it's successful chicken. I don't know. Anyway, he seems
- 35:39Speaker 1: like a good boyfriend and they're like looking for apartments. Anyway,
- 35:42Speaker 1: in the first episode, she reveals that she's been on
- 35:45Speaker 1: TV since she was five. Obviously, she didn't get paid
- 35:49Speaker 1: for that. Housewives only get paid themselves. Everybody else that's
- 35:53Speaker 1: in the photo, including the dog, do not get paid
- 35:56Speaker 1: unless you seek out a deal for them after they're 18.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Okay, but not even like the husbands?
- 36:02Speaker 1: No. Oh.
- 36:04Speaker 3: No.
- 36:04Speaker 2: I thought the more involved husbands would get paid.
- 36:07Speaker 1: I mean, once you're a hit, I think you can
- 36:09Speaker 1: negotiate anything. But certainly in the beginning, you know, your
- 36:13Speaker 1: kids aren't getting money. And, you know, I remember I mean,
- 36:20Speaker 1: I remember another I remember the Kardashians, you know, the
- 36:22Speaker 1: two little girls were on and. I don't think they
- 36:27Speaker 1: had anything. And from my memory, Kim, I mean, Chris
- 36:31Speaker 1: carved out something for them.
- 36:33Speaker 3: Oh, smart.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Well, she's smart.
- 36:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:34Speaker 1: And then eventually, you know, they got all their things
- 36:36Speaker 1: and they have all their monies and they all have
- 36:38Speaker 1: their businesses. But with her, she didn't get any of that.
- 36:42Speaker 1: And then come 14, she started to do her own
- 36:45Speaker 1: Instagrams and stuff. And then she got brand deals.
- 36:47Speaker 3: Right.
- 36:48Speaker 2: And.
- 36:49Speaker 1: She said, I made a lot of money for five years.
- 36:53Speaker 1: I know what I was getting. I was doing reels
- 36:54Speaker 1: and everything for like, you know, three a week. And
- 36:57Speaker 1: there is not one dime that she got. The money
- 37:01Speaker 1: is all gone.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Where did it go?
- 37:03Speaker 1: To Wigs.
- 37:05Speaker 2: Oh, her parents spent it?
- 37:06Speaker 3: Yes.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Croy.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Kim and Croy.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Or Kim or whatever. And she, it's so. Right.
- 37:14Speaker 2: There's no Cougan account.
- 37:15Speaker 1: This is the juiciest. There's no Cougan account. And there's
- 37:19Speaker 1: none for– I've talked a lot about the Instagram situation,
- 37:22Speaker 1: and now there's a few states. But even that is
- 37:25Speaker 1: going to be extremely hard because even when there was
- 37:27Speaker 1: a Coogan account available when– I've talked about this with
- 37:32Speaker 1: my own family, with my siblings, my sister doing commercials
- 37:39Speaker 1: and stuff. She did not have a separate account. I mean,
- 37:44Speaker 1: we– My parents paid for undergraduate for her and for me.
- 37:52Speaker 1: But I didn't make any commercials.
- 37:54Speaker 3: Right. Right.
- 37:55Speaker 1: But they're dead now. There's no way to figure it out.
- 37:57Speaker 3: No.
- 37:57Speaker 1: My sister doesn't care. But I'm saying when you have
- 37:59Speaker 1: like a bunch of kids and the checks are coming in,
- 38:02Speaker 1: who is monitoring that?
- 38:05Speaker 3: Right.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Nobody. You have to just hope that the parent takes
- 38:08Speaker 1: just the 15% and puts the rest in an account. Right.
- 38:11Speaker 1: And they didn't.
- 38:12Speaker 2: You know, I don't mind them getting the 15% because
- 38:15Speaker 2: the parents have to drive them everywhere.
- 38:16Speaker 1: The parents have to, in some cases that isn't enough,
- 38:19Speaker 1: you know, truly, you know, isn't, but, um, that is
- 38:22Speaker 1: the law. And so she, you know, thank God is
- 38:27Speaker 1: on this show and still doing and still making money.
- 38:31Speaker 1: So the mom, Kim still asks her for money because
- 38:34Speaker 1: she needs it. And so Ariana is like, I have
- 38:39Speaker 1: to help my mom because she has four minor kids still. Right.
- 38:43Speaker 1: And they, like, lost the house and all this other stuff.
- 38:47Speaker 1: But then the boyfriend's like, yeah, but we saw her
- 38:49Speaker 1: drinking a $ 200 bottle of wine by herself on her stories.
- 38:53Speaker 1: And you just zelled her who knows how much.
- 38:55Speaker 3: Right.
- 38:56Speaker 1: And I just really appreciate that she's being honest, telling
- 39:01Speaker 1: the story.
- 39:03Speaker 2: That's why we love these people.
- 39:04Speaker 1: We want that.
- 39:05Speaker 2: But also, that's why we love Kim.
- 39:06Speaker 1: But also, this is what I've been saying. There's going
- 39:09Speaker 1: to be people that are going to be like, what happened?
- 39:11Speaker 1: I mean, she was on TV as a five-year-old with
- 39:15Speaker 1: Kandi's daughter.
- 39:16Speaker 3: Right.
- 39:17Speaker 1: And now they're both on this show, which is pretty genius.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Then there's other people that we don't know.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Does Kandi's daughter have money? She must have money.
- 39:24Speaker 1: Kandi takes care of her. She graduated from college, and
- 39:27Speaker 1: she's like, I have to make it on my own.
- 39:29Speaker 1: My mom's giving me one year. Well, you're on a
- 39:32Speaker 1: reality show on Bravo. Like, I mean, it's hardly like,
- 39:34Speaker 1: you know, you're working as the barista or whatever. But anyway, that,
- 39:39Speaker 1: that's interesting. Let's see. And then one of the guys
- 39:43Speaker 1: on it was, I mentioned, um, was there when the
- 39:46Speaker 1: crypto guy got arrested for kidnapping another crypto guy.
- 39:51Speaker 3: Whoa.
- 39:52Speaker 1: He was.
- 39:53Speaker 2: He's on... Who are the kids on the show?
- 39:54Speaker 1: He was, like, outside the brownstone. Oh, my God. The
- 39:56Speaker 1: other dudes, I don't know where they found them.
- 39:59Speaker 2: So there's... Well, there's Candy's daughter.
- 40:00Speaker 1: There's Candy's daughter. There's Meredith Mark's son, Brooks.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Oh, I love him.
- 40:04Speaker 1: And all of a sudden, his sister, like, goes on
- 40:06Speaker 1: a date with what I think is the crypto guy.
- 40:09Speaker 1: So there's some, like, straight guys in it.
- 40:11Speaker 3: Okay.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Then there's... the, uh, the first transgender, uh, Bravo star.
- 40:17Speaker 1: She's a model.
- 40:17Speaker 3: Okay.
- 40:18Speaker 1: So they go to her fashion show and I kind
- 40:23Speaker 1: of want to see this.
- 40:24Speaker 4: Oh, okay.
- 40:25Speaker 2: I want to see this. I kind of want to
- 40:26Speaker 2: see it.
- 40:26Speaker 1: It's kind of fun. Cause it's in New York and
- 40:29Speaker 1: it's like, you know, it's them going to a fashion show.
- 40:32Speaker 1: They're privileged kids. They all have nails. They all have,
- 40:36Speaker 1: you know, $ 8 matchas, but you know, it's summer in
- 40:40Speaker 1: New York with these kids and it's kind of fun
- 40:42Speaker 1: to watch.
- 40:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:43Speaker 2: I'd want to see, I always love when Brooks marks
- 40:44Speaker 2: is on, um, real housewives of Salt Lake city.
- 40:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:47Speaker 2: He's, um, he's like the, he's like the ultimate hype man.
- 40:50Speaker 2: He's like, you know, if I could like wave a
- 40:53Speaker 2: wand and have my son grow up to, it would
- 40:54Speaker 2: be that maybe mom, you're so gorgeous. Like he's so like,
- 40:57Speaker 2: he's that guy.
- 40:58Speaker 1: I met him in person and he was a delight. Yeah.
- 41:01Speaker 1: And very good looking.
- 41:03Speaker 3: Yes.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Um, okay. So, um, Okay, but first, when we're talking about...
- 41:08Speaker 1: I want to go back to your story, and then
- 41:10Speaker 1: we'll go to more hot topics. I want to make
- 41:12Speaker 1: sure that we get everything in here. Okay, so tell me.
- 41:16Speaker 1: This is juicy about you. This is a hot topic. Yes, yes.
- 41:20Speaker 1: Ali Wong and Bill Hader, who are a couple, are
- 41:24Speaker 1: on board for Ricky Lindholm's Dead Inside Musical as executive producers.
- 41:29Speaker 1: So explain this exciting thing that you're doing.
- 41:33Speaker 2: So what happened... I... Decided to write, I had a
- 41:36Speaker 2: long fertility journey.
- 41:38Speaker 1: It was crazy.
- 41:39Speaker 2: It was a wild journey. And I decided to write
- 41:41Speaker 2: like a one woman musical about it. And I went
- 41:44Speaker 2: and did it in Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival. Have
- 41:46Speaker 2: you ever done Fringe?
- 41:47Speaker 3: No.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Okay, so I did Fringe.
- 41:48Speaker 1: I've never been in any festival, I told you. Oh, right, right.
- 41:50Speaker 2: But Fringe is different. Fringe is like, you just, everyone
- 41:53Speaker 2: can just go.
- 41:53Speaker 1: You don't have to apply.
- 41:54Speaker 2: You just have to go. There's like 5,000 shows. And
- 41:57Speaker 2: I went and I did it. And Bill's assistant had
- 42:00Speaker 2: seen the show. She just went there for... for fun
- 42:03Speaker 2: to the festival and she told him, she's like, that's
- 42:05Speaker 2: the best show I saw at the festival. And then
- 42:07Speaker 2: I did it in Los Angeles and Bill and Ally came.
- 42:10Speaker 1: Did you not know them before?
- 42:11Speaker 2: I knew them, I knew Ally.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Didn't Bill and Fred know each other from SNL? Yes.
- 42:17Speaker 2: So Bill texted Fred and said, you know.
- 42:20Speaker 1: But he knew that you guys were husband and wife.
- 42:22Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes. And so he texted Fred and Fred's like, oh,
- 42:25Speaker 2: she's doing the show Friday or whatever. And so they
- 42:27Speaker 2: came and then, you know, a few months later, Ali
- 42:31Speaker 2: just texted me like, hey, would it help if we
- 42:33Speaker 2: came on as producers? I was like, yes, it would help.
- 42:35Speaker 1: Yes, yes.
- 42:36Speaker 3: Great.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Amazing. I was shocked. They just offered.
- 42:40Speaker 1: So now what happens?
- 42:41Speaker 2: So now I'm starting to do regional theaters, and we
- 42:45Speaker 2: hope to get it to New York. But I'm doing
- 42:48Speaker 2: the Wooly Mammoth Theater in DC in July. And then
- 42:50Speaker 2: I'm not sure what's after that. But I just want
- 42:53Speaker 2: to tour so much right now because my son is three.
- 42:55Speaker 2: And I know when he's in school, it's going to
- 42:56Speaker 2: get so much harder. So I just want to be
- 42:59Speaker 2: on the road touring. As much as possible.
- 43:01Speaker 1: But do you bring them with you?
- 43:02Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 43:03Speaker 1: And the nanny or what do you do? Oh, okay.
- 43:05Speaker 2: Natasha and I, I open for Natasha Legere on the
- 43:07Speaker 2: road sometimes and we bring our kids and a nanny.
- 43:09Speaker 1: Oh, that's great.
- 43:10Speaker 2: So we travel as like a little pack and yeah.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Oh, that's so great. So what, so I, your story
- 43:17Speaker 1: is juicy.
- 43:17Speaker 3: Yes.
- 43:17Speaker 1: So let's, can you tell us a little story?
- 43:20Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:20Speaker 1: So you were a single woman. Uh-huh. How old were
- 43:23Speaker 1: you when you were like, I want to make sure
- 43:25Speaker 1: I have a child?
- 43:26Speaker 2: I was 34 and I got my eggs frozen at 34.
- 43:29Speaker 2: So I had like those.
- 43:30Speaker 1: So you did your insurance policy.
- 43:32Speaker 3: Yes.
- 43:32Speaker 2: And I did it three times. I did my insurance policy,
- 43:34Speaker 2: had that all like ready to go.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Okay.
- 43:36Speaker 2: And then when I was 38, I met someone and
- 43:39Speaker 2: we tried to have a baby for like two years.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Just regular?
- 43:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 43:42Speaker 2: Well, regular plus IVF and plus.
- 43:45Speaker 1: Oh so you so first you tried to have sex.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Okay yes yes yes so and then you're like I
- 43:51Speaker 2: have these eggs yes and well we just had like
- 43:53Speaker 2: two years of like it like this is like juicy
- 43:56Speaker 2: but not funny just of like losses and it was
- 43:58Speaker 2: just a really hard.
- 43:59Speaker 1: But you but you didn't think we should get married
- 44:02Speaker 1: first you're just like.
- 44:03Speaker 2: I never wanted to get married oh I just didn't
- 44:06Speaker 2: no that's it's that's why that's why I had to
- 44:07Speaker 2: like hint that I wanted to because I didn't everyone
- 44:09Speaker 2: I dated before that I just didn't want to get
- 44:11Speaker 2: married it just wasn't for me okay because I I
- 44:13Speaker 2: just don't like weddings I just Like, that's actually what
- 44:16Speaker 2: I said to Fred. I was like, I'll get married,
- 44:17Speaker 2: but I don't want a wedding.
- 44:18Speaker 1: So you didn't have a wedding?
- 44:19Speaker 2: No, we just went to the courthouse.
- 44:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't. I love going. Do you like going
- 44:23Speaker 1: to weddings?
- 44:24Speaker 2: Not really.
- 44:25Speaker 1: Why?
- 44:26Speaker 2: It's like, there's, you know, I like it more now.
- 44:29Speaker 1: I love them so much.
- 44:30Speaker 2: When I was younger, it just felt like it was like,
- 44:32Speaker 2: that was where the woman's potential went to die. A
- 44:35Speaker 2: lot of the time, it just felt like sad to me.
- 44:37Speaker 2: I was like, oh, she's giving up at this point. Like,
- 44:40Speaker 2: I was just always felt like, and it's not, Turned
- 44:43Speaker 2: out to be the case, but it just felt like
- 44:44Speaker 2: that when I was younger. I just felt like, oh,
- 44:46Speaker 2: why are you because I just feel like they're going
- 44:48Speaker 2: to give up their dreams for this guy.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Right. Which which a lot of people do, you know.
- 44:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:54Speaker 1: And for me, I. I love I love getting ready
- 45:01Speaker 1: at two in the afternoon.
- 45:02Speaker 2: That is nice.
- 45:03Speaker 1: I love going and having that first glass of champagne
- 45:07Speaker 1: at the golden hour.
- 45:08Speaker 2: That is nice.
- 45:08Speaker 1: I like sitting and reading the little thing of who's
- 45:13Speaker 1: in the wedding. Oh, it's the niece. It's the that.
- 45:15Speaker 2: You have a better attitude.
- 45:16Speaker 1: And then past apps.
- 45:18Speaker 2: Right. Yeah, you have a better attitude. I should get
- 45:21Speaker 2: more on that page.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Dancing.
- 45:22Speaker 2: Yeah. I think it was just when I was younger,
- 45:24Speaker 2: I was very resistant. I just thought that marriage would
- 45:27Speaker 2: kill any dream.
- 45:28Speaker 1: That I had. No, but I think it's interesting that you...
- 45:30Speaker 1: I mean, I think that's valid. I think that's totally
- 45:33Speaker 1: valid of just like, that's not my dream, you know? And....
- 45:38Speaker 2: I saw it happen to a lot of people. But yeah,
- 45:40Speaker 2: so we didn't get married, but we were trying to
- 45:41Speaker 2: have a baby. And then he changed his mind.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Changed his mind about wanting a child?
- 45:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:47Speaker 1: And you had already had a couple miscarriages?
- 45:50Speaker 3: Yep.
- 45:50Speaker 2: And we had just made embryos to implant.
- 45:54Speaker 1: Did you have any left over when he said, I'm
- 45:56Speaker 1: not interested anymore?
- 45:57Speaker 3: Yes.
- 45:57Speaker 1: How many did you have left over?
- 45:58Speaker 2: Just one.
- 45:59Speaker 1: And then what did you do?
- 46:02Speaker 2: Nothing. It was gone. It was over.
- 46:04Speaker 1: You didn't try to like? have him sign the rights over.
- 46:08Speaker 1: So if you wanted to.
- 46:09Speaker 2: He said that he would. And then it just felt
- 46:10Speaker 2: like it was just so fraught. I was like, I mean,
- 46:15Speaker 2: he would be in my life and that would mean, you.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Know what I mean? I mean, I think that's why
- 46:19Speaker 1: he didn't.
- 46:19Speaker 2: He was nice about it. He said that he would,
- 46:21Speaker 2: he fully.
- 46:22Speaker 1: Would sign over his rights.
- 46:23Speaker 3: Yes.
- 46:23Speaker 2: He fully said that. But then.
- 46:25Speaker 1: And did it come out of nowhere or was it like,
- 46:27Speaker 1: we both know we shouldn't be doing this?
- 46:28Speaker 2: To me, it came out of nowhere. But look at
- 46:31Speaker 2: the time, but looking back, I'm like, no, I, you know,
- 46:34Speaker 2: I just sort of had like optimistic blinders on and
- 46:37Speaker 2: I was like, but it was, it was, I was
- 46:39Speaker 2: totally blindsided and it was February, 2020.
- 46:42Speaker 1: So it's like, great time.
- 46:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:43Speaker 2: Not, it was like end of February. So it was like,
- 46:46Speaker 2: I went into COVID.
- 46:47Speaker 1: Yeah. Before COVID.
- 46:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:48Speaker 2: I moved into like, I like was living in my
- 46:50Speaker 2: office and COVID like, Oh no, like fully starting over.
- 46:53Speaker 2: And I was like, okay, well I'm having a baby
- 46:54Speaker 2: on my own. Like I'm not, I didn't come like
- 46:56Speaker 2: this far in life to like, like let this guy.
- 46:59Speaker 1: Right.
- 47:00Speaker 2: Ruin my, I wanted to be a mom and I
- 47:02Speaker 2: was like, you know, and so, I implanted the embryos
- 47:05Speaker 2: that I had made at 34, and they didn't work.
- 47:08Speaker 1: Which were his?
- 47:09Speaker 3: No.
- 47:10Speaker 2: I had embryos made when I was 30, so I
- 47:12Speaker 2: had donor sperm.
- 47:13Speaker 1: Oh, you had some donor sperm.
- 47:15Speaker 3: Yes.
- 47:15Speaker 1: And those didn't take.
- 47:17Speaker 2: Those didn't take. Because I didn't know I had endometriosis. Oh.
- 47:20Speaker 2: I had something called silent endometriosis, which I didn't find
- 47:23Speaker 2: out until years later.
- 47:24Speaker 1: Wow. Yeah. So they didn't catch that.
- 47:25Speaker 2: Yeah. They didn't catch, yeah. They didn't catch a lot
- 47:28Speaker 2: of stuff.
- 47:28Speaker 1: Okay.
- 47:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:29Speaker 1: So how many did you try?
- 47:31Speaker 3: Okay.
- 47:32Speaker 1: How many cycles of the IVF during 2020?
- 47:35Speaker 2: I ended up doing a total, I think I did
- 47:37Speaker 2: like five cycles of IVF in my life. But then
- 47:41Speaker 2: in 2020, I just tried to implant them and it
- 47:44Speaker 2: didn't work. And then I kind of was pretty much
- 47:48Speaker 2: out of eggs for IVF purposes. I could have still
- 47:51Speaker 2: gotten pregnant naturally, but you need to have a reserve
- 47:54Speaker 2: to make it worth the surgery. So I stopped and
- 47:58Speaker 2: I tried to adopt for like two years. That was
- 48:01Speaker 2: really hard.
- 48:02Speaker 1: Tell me about that.
- 48:03Speaker 2: Well, like foreign adoption was like, it wasn't closed, but
- 48:06Speaker 2: it was, everything was like a little on pause because
- 48:08Speaker 2: of COVID.
- 48:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:09Speaker 2: It was just all like, everything was kind of on pause.
- 48:12Speaker 1: Was there a certain part of the world you were
- 48:14Speaker 1: looking to adopt from?
- 48:15Speaker 2: No, I, no, I just, I, I was just like
- 48:18Speaker 2: open to anything. And then, um, I called my friends
- 48:21Speaker 2: who'd adopted.
- 48:21Speaker 1: And with that, you have to like pay for an
- 48:23Speaker 1: agency to help you.
- 48:24Speaker 2: You have to have an agency and a social worker.
- 48:26Speaker 2: You take parenting classes. I was doing all of this, like,
- 48:29Speaker 2: you know, I just, I had nothing else to do.
- 48:31Speaker 2: So I was just doing all of it. And I
- 48:32Speaker 2: had to like, you have to make a pamphlet to
- 48:34Speaker 2: like sell yourself as a parent, but most people get
- 48:37Speaker 2: these photo shoots.
- 48:37Speaker 1: So you did like a deck, like you're pitching a show. Totally.
- 48:40Speaker 2: It's like a, it's a physical, it's so embarrassing. It's,
- 48:42Speaker 2: it's just like boring things about you that you're like,
- 48:44Speaker 2: I like flowers. Like mine literally says, I love wallpaper.
- 48:47Speaker 2: I'm not joking. And it's like me in front of
- 48:48Speaker 2: a wall, but that's what they, everyone's looks like. They're
- 48:50Speaker 2: so embarrassing, but I didn't have, um, it was, you know, March, 2020.
- 48:54Speaker 2: And so I couldn't get a photo shoot. So I
- 48:56Speaker 2: had to like photoshop like glasses of wine out of
- 48:59Speaker 2: my hand or whatever because i just you know what
- 49:00Speaker 2: i mean i didn't have any like of these wholesome
- 49:02Speaker 2: photos i just had to like protect i had to
- 49:05Speaker 2: like photoshop myself into wholesome situations did.
- 49:09Speaker 1: You say like i mean i would have played this
- 49:11Speaker 1: is how i would have sold you the music stuff
- 49:15Speaker 1: well so that you could like teach your child music.
- 49:18Speaker 2: But here's the problem Because your music is dirty? It's
- 49:21Speaker 2: really dirty. So, I had so many things going against me.
- 49:25Speaker 2: I was, you know, older for adoption. Single woman.
- 49:28Speaker 1: How old were you that time?
- 49:28Speaker 2: I was 41 when I... No, I was 40. 40
- 49:30Speaker 2: or 41 when I tried to adopt.
- 49:32Speaker 1: And is it like everything over 40 is kind of, like,
- 49:34Speaker 1: not great?
- 49:35Speaker 4: I think it.
- 49:36Speaker 2: I don't, I don't think there's like a hard and
- 49:38Speaker 2: fast rule, but I think it's most people when they're like,
- 49:41Speaker 2: who am I going to give my baby to? They're
- 49:42Speaker 2: not like, is there someone 56 here? Like, no, they're like,
- 49:45Speaker 2: they want like a young couple who lives on a
- 49:47Speaker 2: farm or whatever, you know?
- 49:48Speaker 3: Right.
- 49:48Speaker 2: Like a Hallmark movie.
- 49:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:50Speaker 2: And those people exist. And I was just not that.
- 49:53Speaker 2: And if you Google me, it's like, I have really
- 49:55Speaker 2: dirty songs and I, you know, I have a song
- 49:58Speaker 2: about Christian girls who stay virgins by having anal. I
- 50:01Speaker 2: have like, It's just not great. I've been in a
- 50:05Speaker 2: lot of nude scenes in movies. It's just not great.
- 50:08Speaker 1: And that was also hard for the foreign aspect or
- 50:12Speaker 1: just for an American baby?
- 50:13Speaker 2: So I didn't try foreign adoption because everything was just
- 50:16Speaker 2: up in the air. So I did domestic, which was open.
- 50:20Speaker 1: So did it ever get close at all?
- 50:23Speaker 2: I got close. I had one where I got a
- 50:26Speaker 2: match and I went to get the baby and then
- 50:27Speaker 2: there was all these sort of problems that arose. It
- 50:30Speaker 2: just got It just was like all those weird situations.
- 50:34Speaker 1: Like a Lifetime movie?
- 50:36Speaker 2: It was like a Lifetime movie. Well, it was like
- 50:38Speaker 2: they couldn't locate the dad.
- 50:39Speaker 1: And they needed the dad to sign off.
- 50:41Speaker 3: Yes, yes.
- 50:42Speaker 1: And you just had a feeling like.
- 50:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:44Speaker 1: Because I don't... I mean, I do have a friend
- 50:47Speaker 1: who adopted. And, you know, congrats, she adopted. She had trouble,
- 50:56Speaker 1: you know, getting pregnant and all that.
- 50:59Speaker 2: And.
- 51:00Speaker 1: I don't want to share too much because I don't
- 51:02Speaker 1: want to like have people figure out who I'm talking about.
- 51:04Speaker 1: But it was basically then the mom, you know, her
- 51:09Speaker 1: parents were like, wait, we didn't, we want our grandchild back.
- 51:13Speaker 3: Right.
- 51:13Speaker 1: And it became this whole legal thing. And in the end,
- 51:18Speaker 1: my friend prevailed and then they did the visits. But
- 51:23Speaker 1: then like after like three, the visits just stopped.
- 51:27Speaker 3: Right.
- 51:28Speaker 1: Like she, that woman, that girl, it's really, you know,
- 51:31Speaker 1: I can imagine why it would be hard or whatever. And,
- 51:34Speaker 1: you know, now the girl's in college and doing great
- 51:37Speaker 1: and they look alike. I mean, it was the greatest
- 51:40Speaker 1: mother-daughter situation, but it was her whole first year of
- 51:45Speaker 1: her life was like, when could I lose this child?
- 51:48Speaker 1: And I'm like, I just think that must be So difficult.
- 51:51Speaker 1: I have the utmost respect for the foster parents that
- 51:54Speaker 1: do that knowing that they're just there temporarily.
- 51:57Speaker 2: I could never do it.
- 51:58Speaker 1: You know?
- 51:58Speaker 2: It's so, you have to be so, have such a
- 52:00Speaker 2: strong heart. And I had sort of been through so
- 52:02Speaker 2: much fertility trauma at that point that I didn't have
- 52:04Speaker 2: like all these like psychological reserves to like keep having
- 52:07Speaker 2: failed adoptions. And so I just, it was just, yeah,
- 52:11Speaker 2: I'm like in awe of people who can like carry
- 52:14Speaker 2: a baby to term and give it up for adoption.
- 52:16Speaker 2: Like that's so selfless. That's incredible.
- 52:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:18Speaker 2: Like I wanted to adopt. It was just like not,
- 52:21Speaker 2: working out. Right.
- 52:22Speaker 1: Okay. So then what happened?
- 52:23Speaker 2: So I made a baby in a lab and got
- 52:25Speaker 2: a surrogate because nothing about me worked.
- 52:28Speaker 1: So you had no more eggs?
- 52:30Speaker 2: No more eggs. My endometrial lining didn't work.
- 52:34Speaker 1: Okay. So you couldn't carry. Yeah. And so how did
- 52:37Speaker 1: you choose the egg and the sperm then?
- 52:40Speaker 2: I mean, I might as well have closed my eyes
- 52:42Speaker 2: and put like, I saw when Lala did it and
- 52:46Speaker 2: I was like, oh, she made it like a thing.
- 52:48Speaker 2: It was, that was smart. She got opinions and sort
- 52:50Speaker 2: of made it fun. For me, it was just like,
- 52:52Speaker 2: I was alone in COVID, like living in my office. Like,
- 52:55Speaker 2: I was just like, whoa, I don't know. I just,
- 52:58Speaker 2: I had no method. I just picked.
- 53:00Speaker 1: So in choosing the egg, did you choose someone that
- 53:02Speaker 1: like looked like you or had similar interests?
- 53:04Speaker 2: Because they tell you to, they tell you to get
- 53:06Speaker 2: someone who looks like you. People think it's, it's vanity,
- 53:09Speaker 2: but it's more about like the tribal thing. Like for
- 53:11Speaker 2: the baby, it's for the kid. So that they look
- 53:13Speaker 2: like their clan or whatever. And then she, that egg
- 53:17Speaker 2: donor changed her mind. And so then I was like, okay,
- 53:20Speaker 2: who has the healthy baby? Who do I pick?
- 53:23Speaker 1: And then I was like, who's... So did you look
- 53:25Speaker 1: at like SAT scores and stuff? No.
- 53:28Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 53:28Speaker 1: No.
- 53:28Speaker 2: It is just, this was like, you know, I started
- 53:31Speaker 2: my fertility journey at 34. This was like seven years in.
- 53:33Speaker 2: And I just had seen, like, there's just no rhyme
- 53:36Speaker 2: or reason.
- 53:36Speaker 1: Was there anyone in your life that was like, you
- 53:41Speaker 1: know what, Ricky... Maybe this really isn't the plan.
- 53:45Speaker 3: Yes. Yeah.
- 53:46Speaker 2: There were people like that, but they would say it
- 53:48Speaker 2: kind of lightly, but they saw that I wasn't entertaining it.
- 53:50Speaker 1: How would they say it?
- 53:52Speaker 2: They'd be like, you know, sometimes the universe gives us
- 53:55Speaker 2: signs and like, do you ever wonder?
- 53:57Speaker 1: I'm like, no.
- 53:57Speaker 2: And they're like, okay.
- 53:59Speaker 1: How did your parents feel about all this?
- 54:01Speaker 2: They were just excited the whole time. They were like
- 54:05Speaker 2: excited and proud of me. And it was actually my
- 54:06Speaker 2: mom's idea to get the surrogate. Because I didn't know
- 54:10Speaker 2: that my endometrial lining didn't work when I had gotten
- 54:12Speaker 2: the donor stuff because I was going to carry. And
- 54:14Speaker 2: then that didn't work. And I was starting to, like,
- 54:17Speaker 2: lose faith. And my mom's like, let's, like.
- 54:20Speaker 1: Yeah. This exists.
- 54:21Speaker 2: Do you want a family or not?
- 54:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 54:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 54:23Speaker 2: And she was basically like, you're privileged enough to be
- 54:25Speaker 2: able to have this.
- 54:26Speaker 1: To afford it.
- 54:26Speaker 2: Yeah. She was like, yeah. Like, walk through the doors
- 54:29Speaker 2: that are open to you. Like, you've tried it for
- 54:31Speaker 2: a really long time. This has been really hard. Like,
- 54:35Speaker 2: you know. And I was like, it's so expensive. And
- 54:37Speaker 2: my mom literally goes, well, not for what you're getting.
- 54:38Speaker 2: And I was like.
- 54:39Speaker 1: Growing up, did you always... You said you didn't really
- 54:41Speaker 1: want to be married, but did you always want to
- 54:43Speaker 1: be a mom? Always. Me too. Did you always want...
- 54:45Speaker 1: You did? Yes.
- 54:46Speaker 2: Yeah, there's just... You just know.
- 54:48Speaker 1: You're like, that's the meaning. I just remember being like
- 54:50Speaker 1: 27 and I'd watch like Jerry Springer at night, like
- 54:52Speaker 1: after like a growling show. I'd just like watch that.
- 54:56Speaker 1: And I remember thinking, you know, because I didn't have
- 54:58Speaker 1: a boyfriend at the time or whatever. And I was
- 55:00Speaker 1: just like, well... I know I'll be a mom even
- 55:04Speaker 1: if I have to do it alone. And I'm just
- 55:06Speaker 1: like by myself watching Jerry Springer at night after I
- 55:08Speaker 1: put the kid to sleep. Like I just knew I
- 55:10Speaker 1: had to be a mom.
- 55:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 55:12Speaker 1: And yeah, I think when you know, you know, then
- 55:15Speaker 1: you will do your best or whatever.
- 55:16Speaker 2: And I started getting excited about being a single mom.
- 55:19Speaker 2: And I was like, when I was shooting in Romania,
- 55:21Speaker 2: I would do these little like side trips. And I
- 55:22Speaker 2: remember I like went to Greece because it's 45 minutes away.
- 55:24Speaker 2: And I was like, and I was just sitting there
- 55:26Speaker 2: in Greece, just like looking at the ocean being like,
- 55:28Speaker 2: I'm going to bring my son here. And I'm going to,
- 55:29Speaker 2: and I was like, I was just like, like plant
- 55:32Speaker 2: envisioning it envisioning it yeah and I was really.
- 55:34Speaker 1: Not scared not scared excited yeah and so um and
- 55:38Speaker 1: then how did you pick the.
- 55:39Speaker 2: Sperm same like health it's just like the health match.
- 55:43Speaker 1: You didn't like look up like he's into science or
- 55:46Speaker 1: he's a musician or say that but.
- 55:47Speaker 2: It doesn't matter like right you know what I mean
- 55:49Speaker 2: like someone could have one talent and then not it
- 55:52Speaker 2: just for me at that point I was just like
- 55:54Speaker 2: let's just try to make the healthiest baby possible like
- 55:56Speaker 2: the Like, what's the genetic match?
- 55:59Speaker 1: So when you chose the man, did you choose a
- 56:01Speaker 1: man that kind of looked like he could be your
- 56:03Speaker 1: brother so that the child does?
- 56:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:05Speaker 1: Like, it's so fair?
- 56:06Speaker 3: Yes.
- 56:07Speaker 1: Fair-skinned and blue-eyed?
- 56:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:09Speaker 1: Or you have green eyes? Like, blue is green. Blue-green, yeah. Like,
- 56:12Speaker 1: light eyes, yeah.
- 56:12Speaker 2: It was really... I wish I could say I, like,
- 56:14Speaker 2: put more thought into it.
- 56:16Speaker 1: No, I think... I mean, I think... Hey, it worked out.
- 56:20Speaker 2: At that point, I was just like, I'd seen... All
- 56:22Speaker 2: of my friends had had babies different ways, and you
- 56:25Speaker 2: just don't have control.
- 56:26Speaker 1: And then with the third decision, who did you get
- 56:29Speaker 1: to carry the baby, and.
- 56:30Speaker 2: How did you decide on that?
- 56:31Speaker 1: That was amazing and easy.
- 56:32Speaker 2: That was amazing. Like, well, because the surrogates pick you.
- 56:34Speaker 2: Because there's more people who want surrogates than there are surrogates.
- 56:38Speaker 2: So they, like, you do pick them as well, but
- 56:41Speaker 2: they have to pick you. Like, they're kind of the
- 56:43Speaker 2: ones in control, and they have all their do's and don'ts.
- 56:47Speaker 1: What's like a do and don't?
- 56:48Speaker 2: You know, some of them will do, like, a selective thing.
- 56:51Speaker 2: reduction if there's like a problem with.
- 56:54Speaker 1: And they have to be sure yeah that their health
- 56:56Speaker 1: takes precedent.
- 56:56Speaker 2: Yeah there's there's certain yeah there's people who will only
- 56:59Speaker 2: implant one embryo there's people everyone's got their their list
- 57:03Speaker 2: of things that they want and but by the time
- 57:05Speaker 2: I met my surrogate I it happened so fast she
- 57:07Speaker 2: was the first person I met and we just like
- 57:09Speaker 2: we're laughing on the zoom and I was like this
- 57:12Speaker 2: is like we're friends now I'm like this woman has
- 57:14Speaker 2: to be in my life I love this woman and
- 57:16Speaker 2: then yeah she called the next day and she's like
- 57:18Speaker 2: yeah let's let's.
- 57:19Speaker 1: Go and had she done it before.
- 57:20Speaker 2: Yes she had had three babies already. And she was
- 57:23Speaker 2: friends with everyone.
- 57:25Speaker 1: Three surrogates.
- 57:27Speaker 2: One of her own and then two from a surrogate.
- 57:29Speaker 2: And then I was her third surrogate.
- 57:30Speaker 1: And how did she decide, I love being pregnant and
- 57:34Speaker 1: this is what I can do while being with my
- 57:36Speaker 1: own child.
- 57:38Speaker 2: Well, she's a therapist and she'd been talking to a
- 57:42Speaker 2: lot of people with these problems. And she's like, I
- 57:43Speaker 2: don't have that problem. That's a gift I can give.
- 57:46Speaker 2: And so she still works as a therapist and she
- 57:49Speaker 2: is also a surrogate. And she had another baby after
- 57:51Speaker 2: my son.
- 57:52Speaker 1: So it's just she likes being pregnant it's easy for.
- 57:55Speaker 2: Her yep her body just does it the way my
- 57:58Speaker 2: body was like pass hers is like yep great she
- 58:01Speaker 2: got pregnant on the first implant it was like couldn't
- 58:05Speaker 2: have been I was in it she was pregnant the
- 58:06Speaker 2: whole time I was in Romania shooting Wednesday so I
- 58:08Speaker 2: was just over there and just like which was great
- 58:11Speaker 2: for me because I couldn't um I had to like
- 58:14Speaker 2: like let go I couldn't micromanage I couldn't be like
- 58:17Speaker 2: well what does this mean and what I had to
- 58:18Speaker 2: sort of I go, okay, whatever's going to happen is
- 58:20Speaker 2: going to happen.
- 58:21Speaker 1: I don't.
- 58:22Speaker 2: It's like the least control I've ever had in my life.
- 58:24Speaker 2: And I was just getting okay with that. Like nobody
- 58:26Speaker 2: knows why one baby makes it and one doesn't. Nobody
- 58:29Speaker 2: knows anything. And so I just had to be like, okay, well,
- 58:33Speaker 2: I'm just going to, you know, hope for the best.
- 58:35Speaker 2: And then it worked.
- 58:37Speaker 1: So my sister went through all of that with her
- 58:41Speaker 1: son and then was still a temp and got successful finally.
- 58:46Speaker 1: And then was trying to have another and, you know,
- 58:52Speaker 1: like went through it all too. Had like, you know,
- 58:55Speaker 1: so she had no more frozen, da, da, da. And
- 58:57Speaker 1: then she did get pregnant naturally.
- 59:00Speaker 2: See, we just don't know.
- 59:01Speaker 1: At like 38 or 39. Yeah. We just don't know.
- 59:04Speaker 1: And when she, the doctor was like, I don't know.
- 59:08Speaker 1: I never did understand your baby. problem. And so much
- 59:12Speaker 1: of it is like, you don't know. It's psychological.
- 59:14Speaker 3: It's, you know.
- 59:15Speaker 2: It's a miracle.
- 59:16Speaker 1: It is what it is. It's a miracle.
- 59:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 59:17Speaker 1: We just don't know. So were you.
- 59:20Speaker 2: I get annoyed when people like say that they know.
- 59:22Speaker 2: When they're like, when people would give me unsolicited advice.
- 59:25Speaker 1: About what I was doing wrong. Like what would they say?
- 59:27Speaker 2: Well, like I would say I had like a loss
- 59:28Speaker 2: or something. And they'd be like. here's what you have
- 59:30Speaker 2: to do. And they would, but they would say it
- 59:32Speaker 2: like before saying like, I'm so sorry that happened. They
- 59:35Speaker 2: would jump right to advice. And I was like, no,
- 59:37Speaker 2: I think I would want support. And then maybe like
- 59:39Speaker 2: sharing and then advice, maybe in that order.
- 59:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 59:41Speaker 2: A lot of people jumped right to advice. So I
- 59:43Speaker 2: started just keeping things to myself because it made me
- 59:45Speaker 2: feel like it was my fault.
- 59:47Speaker 1: Is there something, if someone is in the position of being,
- 59:51Speaker 1: having someone in their life or in a conversation, finding
- 59:55Speaker 1: out what should someone say as comfort?
- 59:58Speaker 2: I'm so sorry.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: End. The end.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: The end. Like, what else do you need?
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: Like, if you lose a pregnancy, it's so devastating.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: That's all you need. Like, it's like, it's like, any
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: big loss like that, it's just, that's it.
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: And then maybe if it's appropriate, like, share if you've
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: had that experience. And then, then and only then if, like, asked, like, like,
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: have advice.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: So, you're doing this movie.
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. Or a TV show.
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: Oh, okay. Yeah.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: And this is the one Fred is on.
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: And when do you tell him, okay, so you go
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: on the first date.
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: Well, he already knew. So we were friends.
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: So he already knew.
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: He already knew I had a baby on the way.
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: So we were friends.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: So it's already cooking.
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: And the whole cast knew. We were so excited. They
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: had to get me out by a certain date so
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: I could go for the birth.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: Uh-huh.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: Like, yeah, we were all just like, everyone was just.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: Did the birth happen in California?
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: Oh, that's nice.
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: Yeah, she lives in Long Beach. Okay, that's nice. So, yeah,
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: so I was like. you know, just talking about it nonstop.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: And then, so he, he knew it was happening.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: I did. Does he have any kids? No. And how
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: did he ever feel about fatherhood?
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: He, I think felt like, you know, there's like the
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: must haves like us and there's people like open.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: And then there's like the, I don't want it. He
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: was the open.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: So he was kind of neutral on it. Like if
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: it happens, it happens kind of thing. And then, um, yeah.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: And then it happened. Then it was like two weeks
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: before my son was born. I, Sent a text. I
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: was like, you should be my boyfriend.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: Okay, so now you're dating and you're like, I'm back
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: in LA. You have your baby. And so when does
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: he meet the baby?
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: Maybe like, he went to England to film something right after.
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: So it was maybe a month in to his life.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: But it was like, I wasn't like father shopping. Like
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: I thought I'd be a single mom with a boyfriend.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: That was the, I think that's why I just cut
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: to the chase because I was like, I'm having a
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: baby in two weeks. Like yes or no kind of thing.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: And then I was just like, a single mom with
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: a boyfriend. And then once he came back home, it
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: just got, it was so serious right away. You know
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: what I mean?
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: And was he into like being with your son right away?
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: So into it.
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: And it was so natural. And it was so like, yeah,
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: we just wanted to be around each other all the time.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: So we just moved in together right away and it just,
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: it just evolved. And then, you know, however many months in,
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: we were kind of like, are you dad? Like what's,
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: what do, yeah.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah.
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: Dad. And then it's just been like that.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: So. That is awesome. Shocking. Like, like, So is he
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: officially adopted him?
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: Uh, no, we didn't do, we should do that.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: Oh my God.
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: We totally have to do that. We haven't done that yet.
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: Not really for any reason.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: It just. So does your son just have your last name?
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: Yes. Oh, okay.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: I'm not changing that.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: That's another thing that I don't like. Like, I don't
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: like how, you know, men have to be taller and
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: it has to be the man's last name. I think
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: it should be a coin toss.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: Yeah. Like whatever's better. Yeah.
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: And also like, yeah, it's my last, I, I went
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: through this journey. Like he came out at the last minute.
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: He doesn't get to have the name. Right.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: No, I think, I think it's fine when I, um,
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: so when I got married, I was, I still, I'd
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: been on like a show and stuff. So I'm like,
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: it's staying Heather McDonald. And, um, and my husband is Tobias.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: And so I didn't like add Tobias or whatever, but
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: I was like, we're the devices. Like, I don't care
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: about that. I like it, whatever.
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: It's fine.
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: And, and he didn't care. Like you better change your name.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: And so it was always Heather McDonald. And it's always
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: sometimes funny, like if he's on the road or something
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: and someone's like, Mr. McDonald, we have your room ready.
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: And he was like, well, he's like, fine, I don't care,
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: you know. But then when I was about to give
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: birth to my son, I did go and change it
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: and add the Tobias on my license. Because I just
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: was like, what if I'm ever like in the ER
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: or something and someone tries to think he's not my kid? Yeah.
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: I don't know that's what I was like, because he
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: was born to bias. No, that's true.
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: I mean, that's smart.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: That's just smart.
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: I don't know why I had such strong feelings about it.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: No, I think it's all amazing. So then you write
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: all these funny songs about it.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: And turned it into a musical.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: I think that is so... Isn't that crazy?
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: I just feel like people don't really talk about infertility
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: that much. And I was just like, I feel like
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: this is... I felt like called to write this show.
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: It was so... It felt like I had to.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: I mean, I just think it's great that, you know,
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: there is a way for all kinds of people that
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: want to be parents can be parents. And, you know,
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: it's just really... I mean, it's great. It's wonderful.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: And most people haven't tried everything like I did.
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: Like, most people.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: I was like, I'm the only person I know who's
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: tried every method. And so I was like, I guess
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: I should talk about it. And people have lots of
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: judgments about it. People don't love it. They don't like
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: that I had a surrogate. They don't like that I
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: have donor eggs. You know, but I'm like... It's not
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: their life. These are all people who had babies on
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: their own. And they're like, well, you shouldn't have done that.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: I'm like, well, you weren't in my shoes. You didn't
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: live my life.
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: So, yeah. Right. And so I, yeah. And it was
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: interesting because we spoke earlier when Khloe Kardashian, her second
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: baby was via surrogate. And she was really honest and said, like,
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: it was just weird. I didn't feel the same as
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: when I was carrying my daughter, True. And I was like,
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: I loved her honesty about it. But at the same time,
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: I'm like, for anybody, you know your first child more.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: You've had the first child around for three years. So
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: it's like, like you're not going to feel the bond
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: that you do when your three-year-old comes in. Like, yeah,
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: this new one is super cute and you love it.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: You're so excited. But then you see the three-year-old come
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: in and be like, and like, you are feeling like
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: this closeness. And so I'm like, yes, you didn't carry
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: your son, but also it's a boy and you didn't,
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: you know, and all of that. So it's really, it's great.
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: I just want to move on to a couple of things.
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: Speaking of love, Luanne de Lesseps, darling.
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: Gosh, I love her.
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: Somehow, somehow, this is from Bravo's dark side, but this
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: photo went everywhere. Love it. Somehow, the paparazzi found her
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: just flashing a ring while about to get on a moped.
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: I mean, perfect manicure.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: Putting on some lip gloss. I don't know how they
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: found her.
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: But....
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: I cannot wait to hear the scoop because she's on
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: The Love Hotel. Oh, she is.
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: I haven't seen it.
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: Is it good? I think it's fun. Honestly, it's not
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: getting the talk about as much just because it's four
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: women looking for multiple guys. So unlike The Bachelor in
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: its heyday, you'd be like, oh my God, is it
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: going to be Jennifer or Kelly or whatever? I don't
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: feel like But I'm enjoying watching it, you know, because
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: it's like I feel like, you know, I know these
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: ladies and everything. But I don't want to reveal too much,
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: but I know that it could be one of many
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: or one of two.
- 1:07:04Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: Good.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: Well, Luann deserves it. Man, after Tom.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:08Speaker 2: What a disaster.
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: I can't wait to see who she's engaged to.
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: Actually, every woman in that photo is like needs an up.
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: Upgrade.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: They need a new man.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: They've all had bad luck.
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: Well, speaking of which, I don't know if you're watching it,
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: but Earl, who's dating Shanna Bedore, is on TikTok.
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: Earl the Pearl, which they call him. And he's... Looks
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: like he got on the Ozempic. He's lost a few LPs.
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: And, you know, at first I was like, why are
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: these guys going on these shows? Let me tell you.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: If you're an older guy and you're off your game...
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: Go on the Love Hotel. Go on the Golden Bachelor.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: Because if you don't find love, wow, will they be
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: coming for you. The comments. Oh, my God. They want him.
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: This guy?
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: Yes. Anybody wants him. Listen, it's slim pickings after a
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: certain age. I know. And, you know, he comes off nice.
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: And he's telling a little bit about himself when he
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: likes to do it in Atlanta. And I'm like, and
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: then he's like, yeah, this has been amazing. A guy,
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: someone wrote, like, oh, you're going to have so many, like,
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: women after you. He's like, I know. I'm filtering through
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: them now. Like, I'm like, good for you.
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: I wonder if it applies to everyone. Like, what about
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: the guys who are sort of like.
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: I don't think he ends up with Shannon's wife.
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: What about the guy who faked cancer? Do you think
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: he gets flooded with offers? Wait, which one faked cancer?
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: Is his name also Brooks?
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: Oh, Brooks from... Oh my God, from Real Housewives OC. Yeah.
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: I wonder if he gets flooded with offers. No, he
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: got married to somebody else.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: Wow, so he did.
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: He took his teeth that he got from Vicky and
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: left the OC and totally married... what appeared to be
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: like a very attractive woman in like a nice, big,
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: real wedding situation. Wow. Okay.
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: Then I guess it's just a positive thing for the men.
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: I guess, you know what? I just feel like women will,
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: will always believe whatever story it is she was crazy
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: it wasn't that I was stuck on this reality show
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: that used me and if she likes him enough she's
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: like I don't need to hear anymore yeah like I
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: just let me just have what's in front.
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: Of me right right right and let me not think
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: too much about yeah this guy seems nice enough.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: This is kind of funny. Okay. So this was from
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: 2024 and they were doing a panel at South by
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: Southwest and Brooke Shields was on the panel with a
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: few other women. Katie Couric, I think was moderating and
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: Megan Markle. And I guess Brooke Shields recently went on
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: a podcast and shared the story and then people pulled
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: up the clip. And so Megan Markle is telling her
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: very famous story in her defense. I'm sure she was asked.
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: Of when she was 11, she saw a commercial about
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: like cleaning the house and she wrote a letter to
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: Procter & Gamble or whoever it was. And they changed
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: the commercial and she got to be on the news
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: about it and everything. Which I remember that coming out
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: when she was, you know, first dating Harry H. Sorry.
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: And I did think that was great. Yeah. I was like,
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: that was great. She looks so cute. So she's telling
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: the story. And again, she's probably told it a thousand times,
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: but she was like, and then, you know, at 11,
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: you can make a change. This was before social media.
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: And I was just 11 and I just put pen
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: to paper and changed the way the world looked at
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: women and that they're not the only ones cleaning. And
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: I did this at 11. And just then Brooke Shields goes, Hey,
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: I'm sorry to interrupt, but at 11, I was playing
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: a prostitute. That's, I mean, and I was like, that
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: is funny. And it's no, in her interview, she's sort
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: of dissing Megan at this point in the current interview from,
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: but a year ago, I watching it, I was like,
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: I'm not mad at Megan. No. And I'm not mad at,
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: at Brooke. It was fucking funny. Yes. It was true.
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: And you know, when she was like, I just thought
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: it was so pretentious. I'm like, it was, It really isn't.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: It is her story. I mean, listen, I talk a
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: lot about Meghan in Imitator and She Bugs, but that
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: is a pretty fucking great story.
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I would tell that all the time.
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: It's one of the many stories she's told that is
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: 100% true.
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: So I'm like.
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: I have no problem with Meghan Markle. I'm just like, oh,
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: she's so pretty. That's kind of the beginning and middle
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: and end of my thought. I don't know why. She
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: doesn't register on me.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: I have no problem with her either, but I do
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: like talking about her. I'm not saying she needs to
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: be ban. I'm not saying don't buy her raspberry jam.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: I'm saying I predicted everything that she would do. Even
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: when she was in England, when she was still the princess,
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: I said she'll never go back to acting, but I
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: could see her wanting to have a talk show, like
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: an Oprah thing, which is exactly what she's doing. And
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: I said, yeah, it makes more sense to do a
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: little cooking show at a house down the street than
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: driving two hours and being in a trail at Universal
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: for 14 hours a day so that you can say
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: you're when you're playing a nurse, why would she do that?
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: She's already famous. She doesn't need the money. Of course,
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: she'd rather do.
- 1:12:14Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't want to be in a courtroom.
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: She'd rather do a podcast with six episodes a year.
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: Do you know how long it takes to film a
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: courtroom scene?
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: Do you know how many episodes I do a year?
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: She really does six a year?
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: It's like this season has now concluded of my $ 20
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: million or whatever she's getting.
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: I would do that too.
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: But I'm like, if someone wants to pay you... Yeah.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: Do it.
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: Take it.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: Save the money. What do you think she should do next?
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: Well, I mean, selfishly, I mean, I don't know that
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: she would ever do a reality show, but it'll probably happen,
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: but not for six years.
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: I'd watch that.
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: A hundred percent. Could she really be real right now
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: what she's showing on the cooking show? If that is
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: the real her, then she really is boring.
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: But now she just today, she just posted four years ago,
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: she's about to give birth to her son. And she
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: like put the camera over there and she's like dancing
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: and she's got her big belly and you see Harry
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: and he's dancing. And I'm like, I think she can,
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: maybe she can be fun. Yeah.
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: It feels like she's like had so much criticism that
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: she's so guarded.
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: I don't know. But like if, and also as people age,
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: they change. Right now she's, the stuff she says is
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: super cringe and annoying, you know, writing the kids an
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: email every night, all these kinds of things. And that
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: even though she has business calls in the morning, she
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: still reads her child. She acts like she's the only
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: person that's ever been a working mother. And I'm like,
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: there's been working mothers since the beginning of time, but
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: certainly in the last 50 years, there's been a lot
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: of working mothers. And I'm just like, why you feel
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: we need to And also the other thing I hate
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: is when people are like, and no one's talking about this. Yeah,
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: they are. Yeah, they are. We've all talked about being
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: working mothers since the beginning days of everything. So I'm like,
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: but it's her thing.
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: I want her to enter her Gwyneth at the Ski
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: Trial era.
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: That was so great. She was so in her.
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm aspirational. She's like, I'm not apologizing. I'm aspirational.
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: I lost half a day of skiing. And everyone's like, go.
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: I want to see Meghan Markle in that era where
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: she's like, what? I'm sorry. I look like this. I
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: married a prince. I make $ 12 million an episode for
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: my podcast.
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: Sorry.
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Like it or don't like it.
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: I want to see her in that moment.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: She'll get there.
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: Yeah, she will.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: Hopefully. If that is her personality. Maybe what we're seeing
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: is her personality, which is just kind of like, not
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: that funny, but I also feel like it's so many
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: people and herself, like, in her ear and of, like,
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: you know, sometimes when I see, like, people that suddenly
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: enter social media now, but they're, like, maybe even a
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: little older than me and, like... We're trying to do
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: a trend. Oh, like, okay, like, Harry, like, and I
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: like them, but Heather and Terry Dubrow doing, like, little, like,
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: dances and stuff.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: I haven't seen it.
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: And doing, like, silly things. And then the video will
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: be like hashtag husband and wife comedy. And they can
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: do that. And people in the comments are like, I
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: love you guys. That's fine. But sometimes I'm just always–
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: the TV show I want to see is the person
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: that was hired that has to go, hey, you guys,
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: so I need– when does Terry get out of doing
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: his last poop job? Okay, hi. I need you guys
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: to– Not a lot of makeup, Heather. Like, you're going
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: to look like you just... And then I need you
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: guys to just dance to this song, do this little
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: weird trend, or worse, we're going to do it all
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: in one day.
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: And then I'm going to spill it out. But it's
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: going to look like you guys are just this silly,
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: authentic couple. And again, there's nothing wrong with that. But
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: there's just something knowing... Knowing that there's a girl out
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: there or gay guy.
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: Who has to do this.
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: I wish I had one of those people, honestly. I'm like,
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: I want someone, I don't want to think of any
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: of this stuff. I don't want to do, I want
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: someone to be like, Ricky, now we're doing the thing
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: where you lip sync to this song.
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: I'd be like, okay. I always imagine that too.
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I would love that.
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: Like where it's like, okay, hey, Heather, you know, yeah,
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: I need you to. But that's not my, like, I
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: don't want to be like, hello, we're the one. But
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: I mean, I get why.
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: Lip syncing to some trending audio.
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: But I get why that is a hit and I
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: get it, but it's not, it's not creative. So it's like,
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: I don't want to just do trends and dances and
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: things like that. But I get why other people can
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: pop doing that. Right. And that is that person's job
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: to be hired by the rich 55 year old lady
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: that wants to break out. to be an influencer. And
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: I'm like, go for it.
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: Someone's like, Glenn Close, you have to do the doji
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: dance or something. Like, oh my God.
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: You put it out in the universe.
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: Please, Glenn Close, do the doji dance.
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: No, Glenn Close is like third billing under Kim Kardashian
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: in the new law firm movie.
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: Is she really?
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: TV show, yeah. It's like Kim Kardashian, Naomi Watts. What? Yes. Wow.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: And like Niecy Nash.
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: I mean.
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: And then Glenn Close.
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: I don't even know. But definitely Kim's first. Wow. But
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: it's Hulu and it's, what's his name? Ryan Murphy.
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: Okay. That's amazing.
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: And it's, again, all good. Good for her. Good for her.
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: Good for her. Like, you know, she's great.
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: She did really crush it on SNL. That must have
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: been a game changer for her because she really crushed
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: that monologue, Kim Kardashian.
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: Well, it was so funny because when, you know, that
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: would always be the thing when we did Chelsea Lately.
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: You cannot joke about the sex tape. If there's a
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: Kardashian topic, we'd have a producer go to whoever was
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: on the panel that was not a writer. So like
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: Natasha or whoever. And, you know, once they were on regularly,
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: they knew that was part of the rule. But then
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: someone would be like, oh, you know, like whatever it is.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: Rob Kardashian got Dancing with the Stars. And then someone
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: would be like, blah, blah, blah, blah, sex tape. And
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: then they'd be like, you can't.
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: Was it because it was hacky or they didn't want?
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: Because they were on E and that was the one, like, honestly,
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: the one rule. Otherwise, they were really cool about all
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: the stuff we did and the jokes. But I felt
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: like I was, like, an unsigned ambassador between, like, the Kardashians. And, like,
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: so when the topic would come, I'd be, like, try
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: to push jokes and things that I knew, like, wouldn't
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: offend them. But they would, could chuckle at, like in
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: a flattering way. And, and, you know, but then, so yes,
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: that was the, so I thought it was great. And,
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: but I also thought, isn't it interesting then like, Like,
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: she finally, like, woke up one day and was like,
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: all right, I will fucking joke about it on SNL.
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: And that she was smart enough to save it for that.
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: And then also realized by her doing it and ripping
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: the Band-Aid off, then nobody else can make fun of it.
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not funny anymore.
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: There's no joke.
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: No.
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: It's gone.
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: She's like, yeah, I did it.
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: Yeah. Or even, like, wink, wink, yeah, my mom sold
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: it behind my back. Like, who cares? Just, like, leaning
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: into the dumb rumors because.
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: They do seem to handle criticism. I mean, maybe it's
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: just a front, but they seem to handle it very well.
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: They seem to be like, thank you for the engagement.
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: Thank you for the content, you know.
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: Only a few times will, like, Chloe get upset and something. But, like,
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: the other girls, they have it down.
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: They're like, cool.
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: They have those blinders on.
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: Anyway, one last thing. I'm watching the Pee Wee Herman
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: documentary with Paul Rubens, rest in peace. And... It was
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: very juicy. And the juiciest part about it, you know
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: what I will say, it wasn't totally juicy. If you
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: didn't watch the show, you might get a little bored
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: in the middle about, they got a little too into
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: like every episode and who played what. But we talked
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: about it yesterday on the phone, you and I, about
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: Phil Hartman. And Phil Hartman and he were at the
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: Growlings at the same time and kind of came up
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: with the idea of this like, mocking like a kid's
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: show from like the fifties or the sixties.
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: Oh, Phil was part of the idea. Yeah.
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: That was the problem.
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: Oh, I didn't know that.
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: So he played this like old fisherman that would like
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: come out and then they did like a bunch of
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: things together. And I think there might've been the actual
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: TV show going on. And then Phil got SNL and
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: then Peewee, um, It was like, oh, and then Phil
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: got SNL and that was great for him and da-da.
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: So then they cut to an interview with Phil Hartman
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: and Howard Stern. And Howard's like, but you guys aren't
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: close anymore. And he's like, no, we're not. And he's like,
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: why is that? Is it because you helped create Pee-Wee's
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: Playhouse and you didn't have credit or back, you know,
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: at whatever? And he was like, yeah.
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: Whoa. Wow.
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: And I just thought that as someone that saw that
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: happen with people that would get on SNL, they'd come
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: up with a bit and one would get the show.
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: They'd do it on the show.
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: We had a juicy story that happened where two girls
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: did this little funny bit and one of them got
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: on the show and the other one was like, I
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: want credit or could I come out to New York
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: and write and Give me something. And it kind of
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: came this ugly thing. And I think in the end,
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: I don't know in the end. I've heard everything from
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: $ 500 or a larger settlement from SNL. But the girl
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: that was left at the Groundlings really kind of went
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: for it. Because it became a bit. A bit that
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: was on all the time. That guest stars would ask
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: to do.
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: And it's one of those things that You don't think
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: about it when you're writing some little dumb sketch at
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: the groundlings for 99 people. And I wonder now if
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: anybody like that or, you know, thinks about these things.
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: And even starting a podcast with a friend, it's like,
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: who owns the name?
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: Who owns what?
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: What happens if one of you wants out? Do you
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: dissolve the name? Does someone automatically get it? These are
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: all things that I would say... you should work out.
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: Whether you're being real estate partners or interior design apartment,
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: you know, you are going to have an Instagram together. Like,
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: you better just write it out, have an attorney look
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: at it, both agree to it. And it has to
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: be someone who's like... Like a prenuptial agreement before you
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: get married into a business. You should have a little
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: something because, you know.
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: Because it's got to be a partner and your partner
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: has to be someone who's like so, has so much
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: faith in their own talent that they're like, yeah, you
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: can have that. I'll make something else. Like, you have
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: to have someone... so secure, which I don't know where
- 1:23:23Speaker 2: you find those people, but someone so, yeah.
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: Right. And I think in the past, so then the
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: same thing happened with another girl and the same actress,
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: another very popular bit that got put on all the time.
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: And she was cool with it because she wanted to
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: stay in the good graces of the up and coming
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: SNL people and possible producers and hoping like I could
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: still be in it. And this girl, I guess just
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: was like, no, and she'd have every right to be
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: a little more savvy. But after that, it is my
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: knowledge that when they took people from these groups, that
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: then they'd be like, of these characters, did anybody have
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: a part in it? Or these sketches or anything, because
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: we need to either have them sign a release, give
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: them X amount of dollars, because we want to use it.
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: And I think what happened was, you know, she got
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: on the show.
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: And then, you know, you're pitching ideas, you're pitching ideas,
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: you do it and everyone's dying laughing. And she's probably
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: like thinking, well, that was just a dumb little thing
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: I did in Sunday show. It wasn't even in the
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: main show. And so who cares? And then someone, and
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: now someone's on SNL and someone is not.
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: It's like the person, if that person had had like
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: a tremendous amount of success on their own, they wouldn't care.
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: They'd be like, oh, isn't that funny? They'd be like
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: starring in a movie. They're like, they made a character
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: in SNL, but yeah, if they're not doing anything.
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: And then I guess when he had his issue, Pee
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: Wee Herman, where he got caught just jerking off in
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: a dirty movie theater, like while visiting his parents or whatever,
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: and they were just out to get him. And it was,
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: you know, such an amazing headline to have Pee Wee
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: Herman be caught for this thing, which was so ridiculous.
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: I guess he did like reach out to him. Okay.
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: And so I don't know if they ever spoke before
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: then Phil Hartman's wife killed him. Right.
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: That story is wild. That story is so sad.
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: The Bupa de Beppo, it's finally gone in Encino, I guess.
- 1:25:21Speaker 2: That's where?
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: It closed. Oh. It was the Bupa de Beppo in Encino. That, no,
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: she got drunk off Cosmos.
- 1:25:26Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: And then went back to her house in Encino like
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: she could walk up the street.
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: Oh my God.
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: And they were having all those issues and then she.
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: That is crazy.
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: That story is.
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: That story is like haunting. It's so, so awful. But yeah,
- 1:25:41Speaker 2: so yeah, don't, like, don't fuck over your comedy partners.
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: Yeah, or just.
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: Or like, just, yeah. Try to find people who are,
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: secure and have a million ideas I've never had that
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: I've never had problems like I always have you know
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: the people in my community like Guy Branum like he
- 1:25:57Speaker 2: wrote me a handful of jokes for my solo show
- 1:26:00Speaker 2: you know he just did like he's not like I'm
- 1:26:02Speaker 2: a writer on it he just you know I'd already
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: written the whole thing and he sent me a bunch
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: of great jokes well I think.
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: There's that kind of things where it's just like you're
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: collaborative and you're like oh I don't care I'd love
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: to see it like I'm just again when you write
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: when you have some other things but I think at
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: that stage it was like this girl maybe knew like, listen,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: when you become litigious, you have a right to, you know,
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: most likely have a right to.
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: But then in this business, the risk is, well, you'll
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: never work again. But sometimes you're in a position where
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: you're like, I've been so fucked over. I'm not going
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: to work anyway. So fuck you.
- 1:26:39Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: Or you've blackballed me because I spoke up the first time.
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: So it's like, It was that kind of a thing.
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: And like I said, I don't know, but it certainly
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: wasn't like a windfall.
- 1:26:49Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: No.
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: It probably was just, you know, hey, stay in the
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: good graces. But of course, no one's going to know. No.
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: So it's just such a weird thing.
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: Comedians all kind of write on each other's stuff. They
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: all give each other punchlines. You know, people help each other.
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: And if they came back, if someone came back and
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: was like, I want a piece of that, I'd feel
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: really weird.
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: Like, I don't know.
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: But I would have as the person. I could see, okay,
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: I could see if you're on the SNL how all
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: of a sudden now it's becoming a big thing. And
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: you're like, I don't even know what to do. Like,
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: do I reach out to my friend and be like,
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: this is on. And because I can't promise you a
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: writing staff job, I can't promise you to get on.
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: But now they love it. Like, my bosses want it. Like,
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: I'm not just doing it at the playhouse. So I
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: totally can see how that could have happened. And then,
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: but if I was making money. Right. I would have
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: been like, here's five.
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: Totally.
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: This is 20 years ago. So I would have been like,
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: here's five, 10. Right, right. And can you sign off?
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: Right. And there's also a world where you could just
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: bring them up on social media and be like, here's
- 1:27:57Speaker 2: the original thing of it.
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: Yeah, that didn't exist.
- 1:27:59Speaker 3: No, right.
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: And then you wouldn't want to do that. Right. Because
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: they want it to look like SNL came up with it.
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: And they didn't. Right.
- 1:28:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: Okay, I can't wait to tell you who it was.
- 1:28:08Speaker 3: Anyway.
- 1:28:08Speaker 2: Anyway.
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: You know what? I'm also going to tell you guys.
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: I'm going to tell you guys on Patreon, too. So
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: I hope you're joining Patreon at HeatherMcDonald.net. That's where you join.
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: But let's tell everybody where they can find you. I
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: have your Instagram here.
