- 0:00How long would you fight a demon?
- 0:02Would you devote your entire life to defeating 1?
- 0:06When a man deals with a supernatural entity in his
- 0:10youth, it seemingly never stops haunting him as its dark
- 0:15tendrils grab a hold of his life and squeeze with unyielding
- 0:19force. Will he finally defeat his
- 0:23childhood nightmare come to life or will the force consume him
- 0:28and his family? This is the true and terrifying
- 0:31story of Bob Baker, otherwise known as the Nightmare in
- 0:36Bridgeport case which took place in Connecticut.
- 0:40This is the Untold story series where we take a look at some of
- 0:44the most terrifying paranormal haunting cases and try to give
- 0:49the most in depth story possible.
- 0:52With this story, I will warn you, it's been a while, but this
- 0:56case is particularly creepy to me, especially since I dealt
- 1:00with paranormal happenings in my childhood.
- 1:03So I would as always recommend that you don't watch this
- 1:06episode alone or in the dark unless you like a challenge.
- 1:12I will also be joined in telling this harrowing story today by my
- 1:16good friend The Tape Library. This has been a very highly
- 1:20requested collaboration and one I've been looking forward to
- 1:24doing for a long time since I genuinely enjoy his content.
- 1:28I hope you all enjoy as well. And now let's get to it.
- 1:55Our story begins in Bridgeport, CT, a town famous for its
- 1:59manufacturing, especially in the late 19th and 20th centuries.
- 2:05Producing goods like sewing machines, brass fittings and
- 2:10ammunition, the town saw a population explosion with a
- 2:14growth of more than 50% during World War One.
- 2:19Known for many things, it would soon become known for something
- 2:23else, something far darker. The year is 1962 and the Baker
- 2:30family is living a rather normal and happy existence.
- 2:34With mother Dorothy, father Francis, and their two children,
- 2:39son Bobby and daughter Robin. It has always been a dream for
- 2:44the family to own their own home.
- 2:47That dream would come true following Dorothy's parents,
- 2:50giving the family some land and a home that they could finally
- 2:54call their own. They couldn't have been more
- 2:57excited. Dorothy's father and brother had
- 3:01built the home by hand some years earlier, and her parents
- 3:05had originally lived there, but now it has since been gifted to
- 3:10them to help make their lives easier and bring them all closer
- 3:15together. Dorothy's parents would then
- 3:18build a second home on the same land, essentially just a few
- 3:22houses down, making for a very close and big happy family
- 3:28across the board. With Dorothy being a homemaker,
- 3:32this is exactly what she'd wanted for her family.
- 3:36Francis, who is an ex Marine, works at an aircraft
- 3:40manufacturer in Stanford. With a good job, a beautiful
- 3:45home, and family close, this should have been a recipe for
- 3:49the perfect childhood for Bobby and his sister.
- 3:53A beautiful existence for the whole family really, but this
- 3:57unfortunately would not be the case.
- 4:01Bobby and Robin, who were very close as brother and sister,
- 4:05often relied on each other for entertainment.
- 4:08The two would typically play outside in the lush trees and
- 4:12bushes that surrounded their house.
- 4:15One afternoon, as the kids rush outside as they would any other
- 4:19day to play, they make their way towards the looming trees and
- 4:24green leafed bushes. A man suddenly appears from
- 4:28behind one of the trees, seemingly materializing out of
- 4:33nowhere. As Bobby's gaze meets the man's,
- 4:37he freezes in place, stopping his sister dead in her tracks as
- 4:42well. Asking her who this man was.
- 4:45He's puzzled by her reply. She asks him what man, Bobby?
- 4:51Bobby, confused to say the least, replies to her.
- 4:55That man over there by the tree, I'm looking at him right now.
- 5:00Robin says she doesn't see anyone.
- 5:03Although the man doesn't say anything or threaten the
- 5:05children in any way, something about him terrifies the poor
- 5:09boy. So, doing as any sensible kid or
- 5:12person would do, he grabs his sister's hand and tells her to
- 5:17run. The two then bolt back to the
- 5:20family house. With the house being empty, they
- 5:24call out for their mother and quickly make their way out of
- 5:27their front door and into their front yard.
- 5:30There, tending to her small garden, is Dorothy.
- 5:35Relieved to see her. Bobby runs up and immediately
- 5:38tries to explain what had just happened.
- 5:41Dorothy, thinking that her kids imaginations are just running
- 5:45wild, tells them to stop talking about a make believe Invisible
- 5:49Man and to quickly go and start getting ready for dinner.
- 5:53Frustrated that his sister couldn't see him now at his
- 5:57mother's lack of concern, Bobby remains confused and unnerved,
- 6:02thinking back to that dark and creepy feeling he had just
- 6:06experienced minutes earlier. But doing as he's told, he makes
- 6:11his way back inside the house to prepare for the family to eat.
- 6:16Later that evening, Bobby is by himself in his room.
- 6:20He's playing with his army men toys, trying to forget the
- 6:23creepiness from earlier in the day.
- 6:27Over the sounds of fake explosions and simulate a
- 6:30gunfire that the boy makes, he soon begins to hear something
- 6:34else. He suddenly begins to hear his
- 6:37name being called. The first call startles him and
- 6:43he looks around to try and find the origin of it.
- 6:47He then hears his name again in a low, hushed tone and realizes
- 6:52that it's coming from the air vent near his bed.
- 6:56In later interviews, Bob himself would say that I was certainly
- 7:00intrigued when I first heard the voice coming from the vent.
- 7:04I was intrigued yet also afraid. As the boy apprehensively makes
- 7:09his way towards the vent, he begins to talk back to the
- 7:12mysterious voice as it asks him to play with him.
- 7:16Bobby asks. Just where are you?
- 7:19Assuming the vent was coming from the cellar, how did you get
- 7:23down there? To which the voice would reply.
- 7:27I live here. Do you want to be my friend?
- 7:31Before Bobby has a chance to answer, the bizarre interaction
- 7:35is interrupted by his mother, Dorothy, asking him just who he
- 7:38was talking to. And Bobby would reply.
- 7:42Just a friend. Thinking this was weird and
- 7:45feeling uneasy about it, but assuming it was just an
- 7:48imaginary friend, she doesn't make a big deal out of it.
- 7:53She instead leans into things, telling her son that he needed
- 7:57to tell his friend that he'd be back in a little bit because his
- 8:01grandma was coming over to spend some time with the family.
- 8:05As the two make their way out of the bedroom, little does she
- 8:08know that his friend is more than happy to wait for the boy's
- 8:12return. When Bobby's grandmother arrived
- 8:15shortly after, they greet her in the living room.
- 8:18As a family living so close to them, she enjoys coming over to
- 8:23spend time with her grandkids and daughter.
- 8:26Francis, her daughter's husband, has recently also taken up a
- 8:30part time job alongside his main job at the aircraft
- 8:34manufacturing plant in order to help make ends meet for the
- 8:37family. So in order to help take care of
- 8:40the children and relieve some stress off of Dorothy, she often
- 8:44comes over. This particular day.
- 8:48After she arrives, Bobby and Robin ask her if she can tell
- 8:52them a story. She agrees, and soon the four of
- 8:56them gathered together in the living room of the house.
- 8:59She begins the story by asking them if their grandfather had
- 9:03ever told them about the history of the house they now lived in.
- 9:07With a resounding no. She proceeds.
- 9:11Well, she says, when your grandfather purchased this land
- 9:15and began building this very house, he hired a few
- 9:19contractors to assist in some of the construction.
- 9:23As they were digging up the dirt to lay the foundation of the
- 9:25home, they made a very strange discovery.
- 9:30As one of the men dug into the earth with his shovel, he made
- 9:33contact with something solid. Thinking it was a rock, he
- 9:38brushed the dirt off to the side to reveal something else.
- 9:41Instead, there before him, he found a bone.
- 9:47But this bone didn't seem to be that of a small animal and
- 9:51instead seemed too big. Placing it to the side, he
- 9:55continued to dig, only to reveal more bones and eventually a
- 10:00skull. A human skull.
- 10:03Quickly getting your grandfather's attention.
- 10:06Along with the other contractors, they discussed
- 10:09things as a group. Ultimately, though, they decided
- 10:13that they would not report the grisly discovery to the
- 10:16authorities. If they did, it would
- 10:19effectively tie up the construction of the house.
- 10:22Instead, assuming it had to have been an old, previous family's
- 10:27grave or something similar, they laid the bones back where they
- 10:30had found them and simply covered them back up.
- 10:34They would then pour the concrete of the home's
- 10:36foundation over the top of the grave, effectively sealing it.
- 10:41Part of the reason as to why they decided this, the
- 10:44grandmother continued, was that winter was coming and if they
- 10:48decided to wait any longer, they wouldn't have been able to pour
- 10:52the foundation and continue building the home because the
- 10:55ground would be frozen. With the children creeped out.
- 11:00The story time would be ended by Dorothy, who told the kids not
- 11:04to worry because it was nothing more than an old legend.
- 11:08In due time that day, Grandma would leave, but something else
- 11:13would not. As days turn to weeks and weeks
- 11:17to months, Bobby would continue to talk to who his parents
- 11:21believed to be his imaginary friend.
- 11:24His mother, by this point, had become fairly acclimated to
- 11:28hearing her son speak to someone, but she believed it was
- 11:31harmless. One day, as her son played in
- 11:34the living room while she cleaned, the phone would ring.
- 11:39Dorothy, setting her duster down, would quickly answer it.
- 11:43On the other end, however, there was some kind of voice, but it
- 11:48was masked by static. The voice then turned to
- 11:51multiple whispers that were too heavily distorted for her to
- 11:55understand as she asked. Who is this that's calling?
- 12:00The line dropped. Perplexed, she slowly set the
- 12:04phone down and tried to go back to dusting the living room.
- 12:09However, Bobby, who I'd been playing, was nowhere to be
- 12:12found. Calling out for her son, she
- 12:16received no reply. Growing concerned, she continued
- 12:20calling out to him and frantically started searching
- 12:23behind furniture. Thankfully, she found Bobby
- 12:27laying behind a sofa but in the fetal position.
- 12:31Relieved that she had found him, but now also concerned as to why
- 12:35he was behaving this way, she asked him why he was hiding and
- 12:40Bobby ominously responded. Because of my friend.
- 12:45Bobby no longer enjoyed interactions with his friend.
- 12:49Upon hearing this, Dorothy became even more concerned as
- 12:53she probed him for information as to why he felt this way.
- 12:57Bobby went on to tell her that this friend, this man, had
- 13:02turned from a friendly, playful type of person to someone who
- 13:06had become very mean in controlling and this scared him.
- 13:12As she heard these words, Dorothy too became scared.
- 13:17In later interviews, Bob would say this thing became the
- 13:20opposite of what I thought it was.
- 13:22I dreaded hearing its voice coming from my vent and it began
- 13:26to push me to do bad things. But despite his best efforts,
- 13:30the boy couldn't hide from him. One night, as Bobby lay in his
- 13:34bed asleep, he was suddenly woken up by the crashing of
- 13:37Thunder and the flickering of lightning.
- 13:40As the storm was salted the house, He quickly realized that
- 13:43his window was open and rain and wind were rushing in.
- 13:47Directly across from where his room was located, he could see
- 13:51the family clothesline and upon it were several sheets and
- 13:54articles of clothing that his mother had left to air dry
- 13:57earlier in the day. Then, without a gust of wind
- 14:01behind it, he watched as the sheet pulled away from the
- 14:04clothesline and as if it had a mind of its own, it quickly and
- 14:10aggressively flew through his window and on to Bobby.
- 14:13Caught off guard, the boy stumbled backwards and fell down
- 14:16as the sheet covered his entire body.
- 14:19He was pinned to the ground, screaming and writhing.
- 14:22Underneath it, the sheep began to pull tighter and tighter.
- 14:26A face pressed itself into the sheet before him and said the
- 14:30name. He then began to suffocate,
- 14:34screaming for his parents. The sheep was suddenly pulled
- 14:38away by Dorothy and Francis. They believed that their son had
- 14:41just had a terrible nightmare, but Bobby knew otherwise.
- 14:45In later interviews, Dorothy would say Bobby began to change,
- 14:49and this greatly bothered me. He was becoming more timid, more
- 14:52frightened, and I didn't know why.
- 14:55My husband and I began to notice that he was exhausted.
- 14:58He wasn't sleeping much at night and seemed drained during the
- 15:01day. Something, and I didn't know
- 15:04what, was causing this. The following morning concern
- 15:09for her son, she called in a doctor to examine him.
- 15:12Since he was acting so strangely, she believed that it
- 15:15could be some kind of medical problem that was affecting him.
- 15:18The doctor asked Bobby a series of questions and ran several
- 15:21tests to check if the boy was healthy.
- 15:24With his vital signs and reflexes being just fine, the
- 15:27doctor concluded that the boy was healthy.
- 15:30When told by Dorothy that he had been interacting with an
- 15:33imaginary person and that he'd been having horrible nightmares,
- 15:36the doctor again told her that it was perfectly normal for a
- 15:39child of his age to have an imaginary friend and that the
- 15:43nightmares were more than likely a result of an overactive
- 15:46imagination. Although she'd been told that
- 15:48her child was healthy, Dorothy wasn't satisfied.
- 15:51She believed that the doctors had dismissed her and or
- 15:54underestimated the severity of these nightmares and their
- 15:58effects on her son, but she chose to remain hopeful that for
- 16:02whatever reason, this phase of his life would pass and Bobby
- 16:06would go back to normal soon. However, this would prove to be
- 16:10far from what would happen over the next several weeks.
- 16:13Bobby's behaviour would only continue to decline.
- 16:16He developed an absolute fear of the cellar.
- 16:19One day, his mother made homemade jam and placed it into
- 16:22jars. She asked her son to go down and
- 16:24grab some more jars from the cellar so she could finish her
- 16:27batch. Refusing at first, he was
- 16:30quickly scolded. At this point, Dorothy's
- 16:32patients had borne Finn. She told her son that he was too
- 16:36old to be acting like this and that it had to stop.
- 16:39Still terrified, but not wanting to get into further trouble, the
- 16:43boy slowly and reluctantly made his way to the cellar door.
- 16:48He opened the door and began to descend the stairs, feeling the
- 16:51presence of someone or something slowly enveloping him the deeper
- 16:56he went into the cellar. Finally making it over to where
- 16:59the jars were stored, he turned towards the shelf and grabbed
- 17:03several as he turned around and started making his way back
- 17:06towards the stairs. Before he can make it, he heard
- 17:11a familiar voice from behind him.
- 17:13A dark, brooding voice called his name.
- 17:17As the boy turned around, he saw something that chilled him to
- 17:20the bone. A dark figure with pale skin
- 17:24stood before him. Its eyes were like that of a
- 17:28goat, its pupils horizontally elongated.
- 17:32Within its mouth he could see sharp and crooked teeth.
- 17:36Its hands contained sharp long nails at the end of each finger.
- 17:41The figure lifted up its hand and beckoned for Bobby to come
- 17:45closer. Feeling absolutely terrified,
- 17:48but also feeling a white hot rage well up inside him, Bobby
- 17:52told this figure that he was sick of it, that he wanted it to
- 17:55leave. In a moment of fury, he screamed
- 17:58at it to get out while simultaneously throwing one of
- 18:02the jars in his hands at it. With this, the figure vanished
- 18:06almost as quickly as the throne jar shattered on the concrete
- 18:09wall behind where it once was. Startled by the sound of
- 18:13breaking glass, Dorothy rushed from the kitchen and down into
- 18:16the cellar to check on her son, frantically asking if he was OK
- 18:21and what's happened. She was told by Bobby that he
- 18:24was OK and that the man was finally gone.
- 18:27Thankfully for the immediate future, this was the last time
- 18:32he had to deal with the entity. In later interviews he would say
- 18:36it's like you're standing up to a bully, one you've dealt with
- 18:39for years and you finally have your day.
- 18:42I basically took the house back. Bobby would return to being a
- 18:46normal, happy child once again, to much the relief of the rest
- 18:50of his family. He started playing sports at the
- 18:52encouragement of his father and turned around his grades and
- 18:56attitude. He then effectively put the
- 18:58terrifying experiences behind him and moved forward with his
- 19:02life. The days turned to months and
- 19:05the months to years, and over the course of the next 40 years,
- 19:11Bob would become a child safety specialist with his career
- 19:15revolving around the safety of children.
- 19:18Believing his career was born out of his experiences from his
- 19:21own childhood. He wanted each and every child
- 19:25to feel safe, be safe, and be protected.
- 19:29Though this is his main career, Bob has also had a lifelong
- 19:33fascination with the paranormal as a result of those same exact
- 19:37experiences stemming from when he was a child.
- 19:41So he founded the Connecticut Paranormal Investigators in 2001
- 19:46with several other like minded colleagues.
- 19:49He wanted to help people who may have felt the same sense of
- 19:51hopelessness and oppression that he himself felt as a child.
- 19:56Bob's parents, Francis and Dorothy, still live in the same
- 19:59house that he and his sister grew up in.
- 20:02Bob often stops by to check on his parents and to help his
- 20:06mother take care of his father, who has suffered with
- 20:09Parkinson's and dementia for the last 10 years.
- 20:12His father, an ex marine, had always been so strong his entire
- 20:17life. To see him take a turn for the
- 20:19worse is very difficult to watch.
- 20:22Recently he seemed to go further downhill and at a faster pace.
- 20:28He started to complain about dark figures that no one else is
- 20:32able to see and has developed an absolute fear of the cellar,
- 20:36refusing to even go near the door to it within the kitchen,
- 20:41believing that this was just the progression of his father's
- 20:43disease. Bob is disturbed but continues
- 20:46to do what he can. In May of 2003, Francis Baker
- 20:51would ultimately pass away following his funeral.
- 20:55Dorothy, after 50 years of marriage, now has to adjust to
- 20:59living by herself after she discovers some of his old
- 21:03belongings in their bedroom. She longs for his presence as
- 21:08she mourns Frances. She is startled when she begins
- 21:12to hear a series of faint whispers coming from the living
- 21:15room. Believing that it could be her
- 21:17departed husband, she finds a sense of peace within the
- 21:21experience and carries on with her day when the whispers cease.
- 21:27Although she felt as if her departed love was still reaching
- 21:30for her from beyond the grave, she would have a very different
- 21:34experience. Later that night, as Dorothy
- 21:37lays sleeping in her bed with the pale moonlight draping over
- 21:41her, she suddenly wakes up when she feels a force upon her.
- 21:47Petrified, she feels the weight of someone or something
- 21:51depressed the bed next to her. Then the experience turns
- 21:56violent. Whatever this thing was shoved
- 21:59her, then began to thrash her from side to side.
- 22:03Though she had believed it was Francis trying to communicate
- 22:06from beyond the grave previously, this energy feels
- 22:10very different. It feels scary, abusive and
- 22:14smothering, not at all like her husband.
- 22:17And the evil presence finally leaves the room.
- 22:21Dorothy breaks down in tears, trying to come to terms with
- 22:25what had taken place. She contemplates life for
- 22:28several more hours, unable to go back to sleep.
- 22:33Finally, in the early morning hours, she decides to call Bob
- 22:37for help. Hearing his mother sobbing on
- 22:40the other end, Bob doesn't hesitate to come over with his
- 22:43equipment as soon as he can. After hearing his mother's
- 22:46testimony, he first dismisses her.
- 22:50He thinks that it's possible she had a night terror of sorts or
- 22:54was dealing with some kind of anxiety.
- 22:56Now, having to live alone after being with his father for so
- 23:00long, he agrees to visit Moore and starts getting ready to
- 23:04leave. But when Dorothy grabs his hand
- 23:07with tears in her eyes and tells him that this presence was evil
- 23:12and that she was utterly terrified, he can't help but
- 23:15reconsider what he had initially thought.
- 23:18Now convinced that something could be lurking within the
- 23:21confines of his childhood home, he starts his investigation.
- 23:26Using an audio recorder, he attempts to capture an EVP or
- 23:31electronic voice phenomena. As he records, he wanders
- 23:35throughout the house, asking if there's anything or anyone
- 23:39present that wishes to communicate.
- 23:42At first, things seem to be benign, but as he continues to
- 23:46probe, he suddenly feels a tension building within his
- 23:50chest. Then he hears footsteps cross
- 23:54the path in front of him. With this, he feels nauseous in
- 23:58this very moment. It's as if he's been sucked into
- 24:02a rift in time. He is taken back to the very
- 24:05moment when he first encountered the malevolent entity all those
- 24:09years ago was a boy terror stricken.
- 24:12But not wanting to further scare his mother, he decides to tell
- 24:16her that he believes that there is something there within the
- 24:18home, that they should have it blessed.
- 24:21He promises he will come back shortly with his team to further
- 24:25dig into just what they could be dealing with.
- 24:28Later that day, several members of the Connecticut Paranormal
- 24:32Investigators arrived. In Bob's words, it was bizarre
- 24:36to me because here I was, after all these years back in the same
- 24:41exact place where it all started for me.
- 24:43Bob is accompanied by his colleague Joel Myers, as well as
- 24:47Mary Curing. Mary, like Bob, was plagued by
- 24:51the paranormal in her childhood as well and seems to have an
- 24:55extra sense when it comes to dealing with the supernatural.
- 24:58As per her ability, Mary is not given any details about the case
- 25:03and is sent in first, acting almost as some kind of radar to
- 25:07see if there is something there and if it's good or bad.
- 25:12Within minutes of being inside, she senses a man and a woman,
- 25:16among several other spirits. As she continues to walk
- 25:20throughout the house, she makes her way into Bob's old bedroom,
- 25:24and it is here that she senses something evil, but it's not
- 25:28coming from directly inside the bedroom itself, rather seeping
- 25:32into the room from the vent, the very same vent that leads to the
- 25:36cellar. Notifying Bob and Joe of her
- 25:39findings, she tells them that they need to investigate the
- 25:43cellar because she believes that it's possible that this darker
- 25:46entity may have something to do with the other spirits within
- 25:50the house. In her own words, as we stepped
- 25:53down each step of the stairs leading into the cellar, the
- 25:57oppression became thicker and thicker.
- 26:00Finally making it down to the base level floor.
- 26:03She continues to walk around and pick up on numerous things as
- 26:07Bob and Joel take photos of the area for any potential evidence.
- 26:11Mary believes that something tragic occurred, something awful
- 26:15that now haunts the land itself. Something that when it occurred,
- 26:19drew this negative energy in as a beacon of sorts.
- 26:24In her mind's eye, she sees a vision of a man carrying bodies
- 26:28and burying them on the land. She now believes that perhaps
- 26:32these very same people are now buried underneath the house
- 26:35itself. Again, she has no prior
- 26:37knowledge about anything related to the house or the case.
- 26:42Following this vision, she sees something else appear before
- 26:45her. There, tucked in the darkest
- 26:48corner of the cellar, she sees an abhorrent robed figure with
- 26:53horrendous features. She believes that this entity is
- 26:57a demon. Asking Bob if he too sees the
- 27:00manifestation, she points to where it had appeared.
- 27:04After being asked to describe it, Bob is speechless.
- 27:08What she describes to him is the very same entity that he had
- 27:12stood up to when he was a child, in his own words.
- 27:17I never told Mary about my experiences or anything else
- 27:20about this house, and to have her describe to me exactly what
- 27:24I had seen myself was scary but also such a relief to me.
- 27:29It meant that what I had seen was real.
- 27:33The team decides to stay overnight to continue the
- 27:36investigation and to review the photos and recordings they had
- 27:39taken for any potential evidence, as well as to keep an
- 27:43eye on Dorothy and allow her to feel protected.
- 27:46As they review numerous photos, they eventually come across
- 27:50something peculiar in one of them that was taken in Bob's old
- 27:53room. At first glance, it appeared to
- 27:56be an orb. In Bob's words, it seemed to be
- 28:00an orb and I usually tend to dismiss those because they're
- 28:04more often than not a speck of dust or water vapour.
- 28:07But this one was different. Upon closer inspection, when
- 28:12zoomed in, it appeared to contain a face, one that was
- 28:16gnarled and rotting. It was the face of the same
- 28:19demon that Bob had seen all those years ago.
- 28:23Although this is incredibly unnerving, Bob does find solace
- 28:26knowing that he now has some kind of proof of its existence.
- 28:30As the team continues to dive into more photos, Dorothy is
- 28:34suddenly woken up by the feeling of two large hands pressing down
- 28:38on her shoulders and back, forcing her face into her
- 28:41pillow. Then there is a booming noise as
- 28:44her bed begins to shake up and down.
- 28:47Screaming out for her son, Bob and his team rushed to her
- 28:50bedroom. Whatever this thing was, it
- 28:53released her as they forced open the door.
- 28:56Dorothy would later say. I now knew that I was living in
- 29:00a house with something that could physically hurt me.
- 29:03I was terrified and I certainly didn't want to be there anymore.
- 29:07Bob now believes that the malevolent entity that is
- 29:10plaguing his mother is the very same one that plagued his
- 29:15childhood. Greatly concerned for his
- 29:17mother's welfare, they both decided that moment that she
- 29:22will move out of the house and come to live with Bob.
- 29:25With his mother now out of the haunted house, the group has
- 29:29also decided to bring in a Catholic priest.
- 29:32Believing that whatever demonic force that dwelled within the
- 29:35walls of the home was far beyond their capabilities to defeat,
- 29:40they anxiously await his arrival.
- 29:43Soon, they receive a knock at the door.
- 29:46Upon answering it, Bishop Robert McKenna steps over the threshold
- 29:51and into the home. Bishop McKenna is a world
- 29:54renowned exorcist and no stranger to evil.
- 29:58They help that with his assistance, it can finally free
- 30:01the House of this tormentor. Wasting no time, the Bishop
- 30:06begins the exorcism prayer and walks from room to room
- 30:10throughout the house, sprinkling holy water as he consecrates the
- 30:14home. He's ultimately drawn to the
- 30:17cellar, making his way through the kitchen and opening the door
- 30:21leading to it. He seems to have a sixth sense
- 30:24as to where the entity dwelled. He was not given specific
- 30:28details about the case, only what had happened, not where.
- 30:34As he walks down, each step further descending, he is
- 30:37suddenly and viciously shoved by an unseen force.
- 30:43This violent push sends him falling down the rest of the
- 30:46stairs. As the group rushes to assist
- 30:49him at the bottom, they realize that this demon has real power.
- 30:54If it could shove a Bishop down a flight of stairs, it might be
- 30:58capable of much more. Thankfully, Bishop McKenna isn't
- 31:03seriously harmed. If anything, he's angry and
- 31:07further determined to attack the devil.
- 31:10As he continues his prayers and holds a blessed crucifix high
- 31:14into the air, they began to hear sounds echo all around them in
- 31:18the dark cellar. This was almost certainly due to
- 31:22the agitation the Bishop was causing the demon.
- 31:25Though the atmosphere grows thick with animosity and the
- 31:29noises further intensify, the group stands their ground and
- 31:33begins to pray with the Bishop. With the lights flickering and
- 31:38the sounds louder than ever and items now being hurled around
- 31:42the cellar, they focus on the Bishop's words and hope their
- 31:47efforts will work. As the activity and the prayers
- 31:50both reach a synchronized crescendo, things suddenly cease
- 31:56as quickly as they had started. Sighing and feeling relieved,
- 32:01they all believe the demon has been vanquished.
- 32:05The environment seems lighter and calmer.
- 32:09They then head upstairs, thanking the Bishop for his
- 32:12help, believing that he was the ace in the hole for the fight
- 32:15itself. They would then pack up and
- 32:19leave for their respective homes for the rest of the day.
- 32:22Later that night, with his mother still at his home, Bob is
- 32:27greatly relieved, believing that the entity is finally gone and
- 32:32that he can in good conscience, allow his mother to return to
- 32:36the house, knowing she'll be safe.
- 32:39It's lightly raining outside, and the droplets pelt the
- 32:43outside of his bedroom window as Bob lies in his bed, drifting
- 32:48off to dreamland. All seems peaceful until his
- 32:53sheet is suddenly wrapped around his head, screaming and gasping
- 32:58for air. He's being suffocated, just as
- 33:02he had when he was a child that stormy night all those years
- 33:06ago. Finally, through the thrashing,
- 33:10he's able to free himself from this cocoon of suffering.
- 33:14Shocked and upset, he now believes that their efforts have
- 33:18only angered the demon. It was most certainly not gone,
- 33:23but rather had followed him home, violating what should have
- 33:27been his sanctuary. With this revelation, over the
- 33:32course of the next several months, Bob and his team battle
- 33:36the demon with help from various outside organizations.
- 33:41Different blessings and religious groups are brought in,
- 33:44yet nothing seems to work. Also beginning to be attacked
- 33:49late at night is Bishop McKenna, who realizes that prayer alone
- 33:54has failed. The entity is much stronger than
- 33:59any of them realize. He arranges with Bob and the
- 34:03Connecticut Paranormal Investigators to return to
- 34:06Dorothy's home to try and rid the demon from the premises once
- 34:10again. When the day comes, the Bishop
- 34:14returns with Bob, Mary and Joel and in conjunction with another
- 34:19exorcism prayer, he fills the house with thick plumes of
- 34:23blessed incense. This time the blessing doesn't
- 34:28seem to cause the entity to manifest physically.
- 34:32Upon finishing, they have the back and front doors open to
- 34:36expel the entity and allow the incense smoke to escape the
- 34:40home. They thank Bishop McKenna once
- 34:43again for his time and efforts. Following his orders.
- 34:48Upon the smoke departing the home, they allow it to sit for a
- 34:52week before returning, hoping that the demon has been
- 34:56vanquished back to hell. Upon returning, Bob and Joel sit
- 35:01at the kitchen table comparing notes and evidence.
- 35:05They had been there for several hours with no interruptions.
- 35:10That was until they heard three distinct knocks emanating from
- 35:14the cellar door. These knocks continued to
- 35:17repeat, and alongside this, they began to hear footsteps walk
- 35:23throughout the house. As the men glance at one another
- 35:26in disbelief, the footsteps begin to make their way toward
- 35:30the kitchen where they both are. Within seconds, both men grab
- 35:35their chests and fall to the floor, unable to breathe.
- 35:40In Bob's words, it felt like I was having a heart attack, like
- 35:45the weight of an elephant was sitting on my chest.
- 35:49I cannot breathe at all. Fearing for their lives, Bob
- 35:54manages to get back to his feet, begins dragging Joel toward an
- 35:57upright position. The two men then flee the home
- 36:02and utter panic. Believing this attack to not
- 36:05only be spiritual but also a near death experience as a
- 36:09result of it, Bob decides to call it a quits.
- 36:13Although he doesn't want to stop fighting, he believes that
- 36:17anyone involved may lose their lives as a result of the battle,
- 36:21so he vows to never return to the home.
- 36:25Nobody to this day has set foot back in the house feeling as
- 36:31though he was perhaps too close to the situation, that he should
- 36:36have let someone else conduct the investigation from the
- 36:38outside. But also now, knowing how
- 36:41powerful the entity is and having exhausted every effort,
- 36:46Bob didn't want anyone else to have their lives put at risk
- 36:50either. You essentially have to know
- 36:52when to hold them and when to fold them, as the old saying
- 36:56goes. Digging into this case was
- 36:59utterly fascinating to me and there are a few updates and
- 37:02opinions I'd like to share with you now.
- 37:06As far as updates go, Bishop Robert Mckenna's no longer with
- 37:10us. He passed away on December 16th
- 37:14of 2015 at the age of 88. He had been involved in numerous
- 37:20famous haunting cases such as the Smurl haunting case as well
- 37:25as many other lesser known cases.
- 37:28Robin Baker married named Robin Santiago, passed away peacefully
- 37:33on Sunday, July 21st of 2019 at the age of 64.
- 37:40Lastly, Dorothy Baker passed away on February 1st of 2021 at
- 37:46the age of 87, never having remarried.
- 37:50She hopefully has now been reunited with her beloved
- 37:54Francis and her loving daughter Robin.
- 37:58I researched as deeply as I could to avoid any
- 38:01misinformation and I believe I found both Bob's company and his
- 38:05paranormal investigation website.
- 38:08Bob seems to still be with us and I hope wherever he is that
- 38:13he's thriving with his wife and family.
- 38:15I'm not going to share the company information or location
- 38:19to help maintain Bob's privacy. However, regarding his
- 38:24paranormal group, the Connecticut Paranormal
- 38:26Investigators, I'm unsure if they're still active.
- 38:31I was able to find their old website link, but upon clicking
- 38:35on it, it redirects to an archived site of a group known
- 38:39as Montana Paranormal. This group, at least as of last
- 38:43year, seems to still be active, but upon checking their staff
- 38:47directory, I didn't see Bob listed so I don't believe he's
- 38:52affiliated. Bob's story was made famous by
- 38:55the show A Haunting with the release of the episode An Evil
- 38:59in Bridgeport, which was later renamed The Nightmare in
- 39:03Bridgeport, which originally aired on October 26th of 2012.
- 39:09Shortly after this time, Bob also did an interview with AOL,
- 39:13their YouTube channel. As for the case details
- 39:16themselves, I believe that odds are there had to have been some
- 39:20kind of killing and the bodies buried upon the land.
- 39:24Perhaps with the violent nature of the deaths it could have
- 39:27attracted something evil like a demon, but the bodies sealed
- 39:32underneath the foundation of the home, the poor souls trapped
- 39:35within never may be able to leave this and or they're being
- 39:41held captive as a power source by the demon itself.
- 39:46It certainly had to have been difficult to choose to walk away
- 39:49from the situation when he had been battling this creature
- 39:53since his childhood, but I do ultimately think that Bob made
- 39:57the right choice. I do think that if another group
- 40:00had been willing to take their chances that they should have
- 40:03been allowed to investigate the property, but I also respect him
- 40:07for not wanting other people to be put in harm's way.
- 40:10As far as the house goes, despite my best efforts, I'm
- 40:14unsure just what happened to it. If it still stands vacant today
- 40:19or has since been sold off, that would be something Bob himself
- 40:23would have to answer if he ever sees this video.
- 40:27And as with all the cases that we've covered here, we are
- 40:30sometimes left with more questions than answers.
- 40:34But one thing remains certain. There was some kind of dark,
- 40:38demonic force that stalked the walls of the Baker family home
- 40:42for one reason or another. One that tormented them with
- 40:46bated breath, seizing every opportunity to attack the weak.
- 40:52Stay safe out there. Stay vigilant, but don't allow
- 40:57yourself to become a sheep for the Devil's Wolf.
- 41:02What are your thoughts on the case?
- 41:04Was this a demon or something else?
- 41:07How do you think Bob handled things?
- 41:09Let me know down in the comments below.
