- 1:23Speaker 1: Welcome in this portion of the program, I brought to you
- 1:25Speaker 1: by Superior Air Repair. Were joined by Rusty person. This
- 1:30Speaker 1: is not going away anytime soon. I think Texas Tech
- 1:33Speaker 1: wanted it to go away, Rusty. I don't know if
- 1:36Speaker 1: they did, but I don't think it's going away. The
- 1:40Speaker 1: Big Twelve Board of Directors released a statement Today's confirming
- 1:46Speaker 1: what had already been reported. They've in fact filed a
- 1:49Speaker 1: legal complaint in a federal court asking to protect the
- 1:55Speaker 1: constitutional and contractual rights of the Big Twelve to be
- 2:00Speaker 1: able to govern The Big Twelve basically as they see fit.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Apart from intervention from the courts. A third state has
- 2:11Speaker 1: joined Oklahoma and Kansas Utah in a lawsuit against Texas
- 2:18Speaker 1: Tech and the Texas Attorney General.
- 2:23Speaker 4: I think the guy leading that Oklahoma charge is running
- 2:26Speaker 4: for governor.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Okay, which makes sense, very popular opinion, Okaying, after sure, sure, absolutely,
- 2:33Speaker 1: that makes sense. Utah. I don't know what their political
- 2:37Speaker 1: motives are, but I don't know what the Kansas political
- 2:42Speaker 1: motives are.
- 2:45Speaker 4: I don't know either.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Obviously, they're clean, very clean in Salt Lake City.
- 2:50Speaker 4: It's a very, very very clean city.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I would say the same about Sedona, Arizona. Everyone loves Sedona.
- 2:58Speaker 1: It is a beautiful place. But I didn't stay around
- 3:02Speaker 1: there very long. Remember too many crystals for me.
- 3:04Speaker 4: I remember walking down when when I played.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Utah, remember that, Yeah, yeah, I was there.
- 3:09Speaker 4: Yeah, so I remember walking down streets.
- 3:11Speaker 1: It was very like I said, that was the Joe Kinds,
- 3:14Speaker 1: was it, Joe con No no no no, no no
- 3:16Speaker 1: no no.
- 3:16Speaker 4: You talked about it.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that was the wow wow wow. Yeah.
- 3:22Speaker 4: I can't remember. Yeah, we will, but anyway, yeah, that
- 3:25Speaker 4: that's a weird city and they never want to go
- 3:28Speaker 4: back there.
- 3:28Speaker 1: You know, I didn't have any I I kind of
- 3:31Speaker 1: liked it. I didn't have any issues.
- 3:33Speaker 4: My daughter when she was walking down the streets in
- 3:36Speaker 4: New Orleans with us one time, she she had to
- 3:39Speaker 4: look real bad vibe.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Oh that I can understand. There's a lot of voodoo.
- 3:43Speaker 4: Going on in Oran, she said to us, And we
- 3:46Speaker 4: we stayed the night as we were driving somewhere, and
- 3:48Speaker 4: she said, I don't think we're supposed to be here.
- 3:51Speaker 1: We're not supposed to be She's very perceptive.
- 3:53Speaker 4: She was very perceptive.
- 3:55Speaker 1: There's a lot of voodoo going on there and that
- 3:58Speaker 1: and probably in Love It too, but they probably in
- 4:01Speaker 1: Love Book two.
- 4:02Speaker 4: You know. I just think that this.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Oh, by the way, the NC double A now has
- 4:08Speaker 1: awakened and they have filed a formal appeal in the
- 4:14Speaker 1: courts saying every day this injunction remains in effect, the
- 4:20Speaker 1: harm compounds the NC double a's governance authority. I didn't
- 4:23Speaker 1: know they had any the roads copycat litigation becomes more likely.
- 4:29Speaker 1: That's true, and the integrity of every contest in which
- 4:34Speaker 1: an ineligible athlete competes is called in a question that's
- 4:39Speaker 1: kind of inflammatory. I'm not sure that's true either. But
- 4:44Speaker 1: they say, a stay of the injunction would halt this
- 4:50Speaker 1: ongoing harm to the organization.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Could unify the SEC, the Big twelve, the Big Ten.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Yeah, they did it.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Everybody is adamantly opposed to Texas Tech right now.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Okay, So, and I know we discussed this a little bit,
- 5:07Speaker 1: but you know, some of this moral superiority are coming
- 5:14Speaker 1: from people that probably don't have a leg to stand on.
- 5:17Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, you know what I'm.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Saying, because they're cheating too. I don't know. I don't
- 5:25Speaker 1: know why this has become the issue, and I'm fine
- 5:30Speaker 1: with it if it brings about some kind of change.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I don't think it's going to Honestly, I don't think
- 5:36Speaker 1: we're going to see a lot of change. As we've
- 5:39Speaker 1: talked before. And look, I understand the implications of betting.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I understand the implications of throwing a game. And a
- 5:50Speaker 1: quarterback probably has more control over a college football game
- 5:55Speaker 1: except for maybe a coach or running back, than anybody does. Right,
- 5:59Speaker 1: I'd say quarters more probably, so yeah, probably, So it's
- 6:03Speaker 1: really easy.
- 6:04Speaker 4: You would be really easy for a quarterback and specifically.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Throw a pick the ball during a sack especialty bets, right, Yeah,
- 6:11Speaker 1: so turn over under turnovers.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Yeah, so you don't have to have to necessarily throw
- 6:16Speaker 4: a game. True, So true, that's the danger.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Hey, I'm not I'm not in any way supporting what
- 6:24Speaker 1: Brenda Soresby has done or what Texas Tech has done. Uh.
- 6:29Speaker 1: I think it's despicable to And of course they immediately
- 6:32Speaker 1: had to come out and say, oh, you don't know
- 6:34Speaker 1: what what uh how we're holding him accountable, you know,
- 6:38Speaker 1: we're we're not saying he's going to play that third
- 6:42Speaker 1: game after the two game suspension. We're all about his
- 6:46Speaker 1: well being. I've heard that crap for I don't know
- 6:50Speaker 1: how many years, and I've been covering college football about
- 6:53Speaker 1: forty plus that we're all about the student athlete. That's garbage.
- 6:59Speaker 4: Go sit out those first first games.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's so much garbage, right, I mean, it's like,
- 7:06Speaker 1: come on, man, just come out and say it. Look,
- 7:09Speaker 1: we think we have a pretty good team and we
- 7:11Speaker 1: went to the playoffs last year. We think we can
- 7:13Speaker 1: go this year, but we can't go without this quarterback.
- 7:15Speaker 4: In the light up because that's what they're saying without saying,
- 7:18Speaker 4: of course.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Well it says we you know, our season screwed if
- 7:21Speaker 1: this guy had come on the field, right.
- 7:23Speaker 4: And they've already invested five million, are.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Yes, and we need him on the field, And so
- 7:28Speaker 1: all the other gobblet that that's garbage and I'd have
- 7:32Speaker 1: much more respect they come out and say, look, it's
- 7:35Speaker 1: his right to play, blah blah blah. You can't keep
- 7:38Speaker 1: him from playing. He's he's been to his thirty day rehab.
- 7:42Speaker 1: He's fine, uh, you know, and he's going to start.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:46Speaker 4: The problem, ship is that it's not just to me
- 7:49Speaker 4: what the game one is. It's like, okay, we've set
- 7:52Speaker 4: a present here that if you don't like something, just
- 7:54Speaker 4: go to the court.
- 7:55Speaker 1: That president's or already been set even before this right
- 7:59Speaker 1: now case and here in college station and another college
- 8:04Speaker 1: town exactly you know that, Yeah, that president's been set.
- 8:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:08Speaker 1: And by the way, I'm thrilled and you got to play.
- 8:10Speaker 1: He was so he was so fun to watch, yeah,
- 8:13Speaker 1: you know, and and a really good kid and and
- 8:16Speaker 1: and that's good on him. But but that's not what
- 8:18Speaker 1: We're not talking about a gambling issue. We're talking about
- 8:20Speaker 1: an eligibility issue. So this, yeah, I understand, this is
- 8:24Speaker 1: more serious. I get that it's more serious.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Well, I was gonna say, what's next is murder? But
- 8:29Speaker 4: that didn't stop Alabama from playing a guy I mean right, yeah,
- 8:34Speaker 4: so yeah, just like well, there was a kid I
- 8:38Speaker 4: was I was grabbing a subway or a sandwich on Saturday,
- 8:42Speaker 4: and his kid from text Tech and he had a
- 8:45Speaker 4: U shirt on. It had an ice cooler on the
- 8:47Speaker 4: back Text Tech logo don't hate us because we're cool.
- 8:52Speaker 4: I walked over to him, I said, I don't think
- 8:54Speaker 4: that's why people are hating a Tech right now?
- 8:56Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 8:56Speaker 1: Yeah wherever?
- 8:58Speaker 4: Yeah, he just shook his head again. I don't even
- 9:01Speaker 4: know what we're doing over there, you know.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Interesting.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Well, it's so, it's not.
- 9:05Speaker 1: There has to be some embarrassment by some section of
- 9:09Speaker 1: the alumni, right absolutely, I mean does it there? Like
- 9:12Speaker 1: I mean it wasn't. Wasn't there some embarrassment about A
- 9:15Speaker 1: and M fans when Johnny was was going crazy? Yeah?
- 9:18Speaker 4: Absolutely?
- 9:18Speaker 1: I mean but he's still our guy. I mean, don't
- 9:21Speaker 1: get me wrong, but.
- 9:22Speaker 4: You still loved Washington. Yes, But was I surprised when
- 9:26Speaker 4: he didn't open his playbook at Cleveland?
- 9:28Speaker 1: Yeah? Right, right?
- 9:29Speaker 4: Surprised that he didn't make it in the NFL because
- 9:31Speaker 4: he wasn't taking.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Care of the body or mind. Yeah.
- 9:34Speaker 4: No, yeah, because he was allowed to do all that.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Of course he's not present. This is the same issue
- 9:41Speaker 1: we have talked about in college athletics now for thirty
- 9:44Speaker 1: forty fifty years, is that kids who are really good
- 9:47Speaker 1: are given passes from junior high on. Yeah, right, and
- 9:52Speaker 1: sometime before that, unfortunately, but but from junior high on
- 9:56Speaker 1: they're they're giving passes because they're good at whatever sports
- 9:59Speaker 1: they're participating it, and so they grow up with this
- 10:03Speaker 1: idea that we're entitled. And so we have fostered now
- 10:08Speaker 1: two and three generations worth of kids who think they're entitled. Right,
- 10:14Speaker 1: And Brendan Soresby has a disease, or he wouldn't have
- 10:19Speaker 1: placed sixty thousand bets. Okay, he has a disease, and
- 10:23Speaker 1: from that standpoint, I feel badly for that. But he
- 10:29Speaker 1: tried to hide it as all people would disease, as
- 10:31Speaker 1: alcoholics try to hide it right from people they love
- 10:34Speaker 1: or from whatever they don't want people knowing their alcoholics.
- 10:38Speaker 1: He didn't know what friends and family knowing. He has
- 10:40Speaker 1: a gambling addiction. But he's getting other people to place
- 10:43Speaker 1: bets for him because he gets caught. So I mean
- 10:46Speaker 1: It's not like the kid is innocent. He is not innocent.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Here's one of the problems. Is it okay? So if
- 10:53Speaker 4: we allow brings.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Or to play, which I'm not advocating.
- 10:57Speaker 4: By the way, then who's to say, I mean what
- 11:00Speaker 4: the text texts next quarterback to do the same thing, right,
- 11:05Speaker 4: Because that's what happened with Johnny Manziel is Johnny was
- 11:08Speaker 4: allowed to do anything he wanted to. And guess why
- 11:11Speaker 4: Kenny Hill didn't work out because Kenny Hill modeled Johnny
- 11:14Speaker 4: Manziel no doubt, and Kevin Someone had. That was my
- 11:17Speaker 4: biggest issue with Kevin Someone.
- 11:19Speaker 1: He was a discipline.
- 11:22Speaker 4: He just allowed it to happen, and he ruined the
- 11:26Speaker 4: future teams by setting the standard that Johnny can do
- 11:29Speaker 4: whatever Johnny wants.
- 11:30Speaker 1: It takes a while to get that out of the system,
- 11:33Speaker 1: doesn't it. I mean the culture, it takes a while.
- 11:35Speaker 1: It's obviously took a while to change the student worker.
- 11:38Speaker 1: But then Jimbo comes in and from what I understand,
- 11:41Speaker 1: he didn't have any a lot of discipline either, right,
- 11:44Speaker 1: apparently not.
- 11:44Speaker 4: Even though his whole voice was so different.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Yeah, he talked differently. He talked a good game, but
- 11:51Speaker 1: apparently but they didn't have the accountability with the players what.
- 11:55Speaker 4: Mike Yoko has brought in. And you heard all those
- 11:57Speaker 4: players say right away, Okay, it's different.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Around here, correct, and we can't be late to a
- 12:03Speaker 1: meeting anymore or or skip a meeting anymore. But you know,
- 12:06Speaker 1: the thing is like with Johnny, you know, we have
- 12:08Speaker 1: that stuff plays out on the field, as you well know,
- 12:11Speaker 1: well know.
- 12:12Speaker 4: Well the the student worker told me she was she's
- 12:15Speaker 4: waited tables or waited at a bar, and so it
- 12:18Speaker 4: was a late late Thursday night.
- 12:20Speaker 1: That's still a small community from that respect, by the way, and.
- 12:24Speaker 4: It's like, you know, he's ordering drinks and she said,
- 12:26Speaker 4: you know, technically it's Friday and y'all play LSU tomorrow.
- 12:30Speaker 4: I think you should. He's like, just bring me the drink.
- 12:33Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, well okay, so you know that's the legend
- 12:37Speaker 4: of Johnny. But then that what happened is that Kenny
- 12:41Speaker 4: Hill followed and that's how I ended up in a
- 12:43Speaker 4: planner in north Gate.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Unfortunately, it's sad it is.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Because he could have been a very very talent, very
- 12:48Speaker 4: very good quarterback. Yah one good game. But anyway, yeah,
- 12:52Speaker 4: I just the problem is you have open Pandora's box
- 12:57Speaker 4: and it has to.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Fign a friendly judge, right, go to court, get an injunction,
- 13:01Speaker 1: and by the time the court data set, which this
- 13:04Speaker 1: one has been for February, yeah, right, p February. And
- 13:08Speaker 1: that's why all these people are saying no, no, no, no,
- 13:11Speaker 1: on this one, we ain't playing that game. We're not
- 13:13Speaker 1: waiting till February. Okay, we're gonna follow suit, we're gonna
- 13:17Speaker 1: ask and I and I don't know legally if they
- 13:21Speaker 1: say that.
- 13:22Speaker 4: So kids state when they came out with this, and like,
- 13:26Speaker 4: we're not gonna play, well, yeah, they're not on the schedule,
- 13:28Speaker 4: so don't worry about that. And there's contracts, right, and
- 13:32Speaker 4: you cannot just not play text Tech if you're a
- 13:35Speaker 4: member of the Big Twelve, exactly you because you would
- 13:38Speaker 4: automatically forfeit that game, and you cannot forfeit the game
- 13:42Speaker 4: and give them the playoffs.
- 13:43Speaker 1: So I think what the Big Twelve is asking is
- 13:47Speaker 1: to be able to go in and tell Texas Tech
- 13:51Speaker 1: your games aren't going to count. Okay, you're forfeiting every
- 13:55Speaker 1: game you play, or or you're going to take action
- 14:00Speaker 1: that we deem responsible with with your athletes. Right in
- 14:04Speaker 1: this particular situation. They're asking the court for leeway to
- 14:10Speaker 1: say to protect what they call the constitutional and contractual
- 14:16Speaker 1: rights of the contract for our member institutions right as
- 14:21Speaker 1: a league. They're asking for what they thought they already
- 14:26Speaker 1: had before the courts came in and said, no, you
- 14:30Speaker 1: can't do that. You can't make these kind of decisions
- 14:33Speaker 1: because the court has ruled otherwise. So they're following a
- 14:37Speaker 1: federal injunction saying, look, we have to be able to
- 14:41Speaker 1: govern our schools by the and play and get them
- 14:45Speaker 1: to play by the rules.
- 14:46Speaker 4: Well, I soluting for doing this in advance, because a
- 14:48Speaker 4: lot of times it happens retrospectively. Right, Yes, So you
- 14:51Speaker 4: take ready after the fact, Yeah, the heisman you don't
- 14:54Speaker 4: really had, you didn't really win.
- 14:55Speaker 1: That ridiculous. That that's stuff. That's that's stuff stupid.
- 14:59Speaker 4: It is dumb.
- 15:00Speaker 1: It's after the fact when the forfeit. Yeah, yeah, later, Yeah,
- 15:04Speaker 1: it take it off the coaches record, Well, the games
- 15:06Speaker 1: have already been played exactly that. That's stupid.
- 15:11Speaker 4: I agree.
- 15:11Speaker 1: And then you're penalizing the current players for what's happened
- 15:15Speaker 1: in the past, right, And that's stupid too. But how
- 15:20Speaker 1: that works, it is I don't know if there what
- 15:24Speaker 1: is uh July. I mean there's only about ten weeks
- 15:29Speaker 1: right before the season starts. Eleven weeks. I think I
- 15:33Speaker 1: saw eighty days a little bit more than that. Courts
- 15:36Speaker 1: don't usually work that fast, work fast at all, right,
- 15:40Speaker 1: Judges ain't going to be pushed into make it a decision.
- 15:43Speaker 1: So I don't know that any of this. It sounds
- 15:46Speaker 1: good and they have to do it, and I'm glad
- 15:49Speaker 1: they did it, but I don't know if it's going
- 15:53Speaker 1: to change anything.
- 15:54Speaker 4: And part of me says, like, just go out there
- 15:56Speaker 4: and whip their butts on the field.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Well, they're going to get a lot of that right now.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Our team's good enough to do it. I don't know,
- 16:06Speaker 1: but uh, but they're gonna get a lot of that
- 16:08Speaker 1: as if they weren't gonna get it anyway.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Yeah, it's gonna be amped up with a whole new level,
- 16:14Speaker 4: but it'll be amped up. Visit opposing stadiums will be
- 16:17Speaker 4: amped up for Tech.
- 16:19Speaker 1: They will which before the Tech could have walked in
- 16:22Speaker 1: there and have been quiet and got out on to win.
- 16:24Speaker 1: I'll watch the b YU game, but that was played
- 16:27Speaker 1: during the day. That's usually pretty hard place to play.
- 16:29Speaker 1: They go in and they just punk by you all
- 16:31Speaker 1: over the field, just like they did in the championship game,
- 16:34Speaker 1: by the way, because they were pretty good. Uh. But again,
- 16:38Speaker 1: they think they can get to the college football playoffs
- 16:41Speaker 1: this year with this kid at quarterback. Well, and I
- 16:44Speaker 1: think they probably if he was a third team tackle,
- 16:48Speaker 1: he'd be off the team right, Well, yes, he'd be
- 16:51Speaker 1: off the team if he was a third team tackle,
- 16:54Speaker 1: a third team anybody, he'd be gone, Oh yeah, yeah,
- 16:58Speaker 1: we're we weren't tolerate gambling at our university. We're going
- 17:03Speaker 1: to send a message to the rest of the team
- 17:06Speaker 1: and any of the moms and dads who are thinking
- 17:09Speaker 1: about sending their kids to Lubbuck. By Golly, we're not
- 17:12Speaker 1: going to put up with gambling exactly.
- 17:14Speaker 4: That would have been for the president.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Absolutely all the way down.
- 17:18Speaker 4: Yeah, the football coach, the whole.
- 17:20Speaker 1: And now it's like, oh no, we're we're for this kid.
- 17:23Speaker 1: We think we're gonna you know, we're going to take
- 17:25Speaker 1: care of this kid.
- 17:26Speaker 4: I just like the language of that. You know the
- 17:28Speaker 4: damage you would do to him if you please part
- 17:32Speaker 4: of the camaraderie of this football.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Please, Maybe you should have thought of that before he
- 17:36Speaker 1: placed his fifty nine thousand bet. You know. Yeah, and again,
- 17:41Speaker 1: I don't want to make light. This is a disease, right,
- 17:44Speaker 1: This kid has a problem. And as we mentioned, this
- 17:49Speaker 1: is not the last we're going to hear of this.
- 17:53Speaker 1: It cannot be because there's too many college kids gambling.
- 17:57Speaker 1: I was watching. You can't turn on the TV. I'm watching.
- 18:01Speaker 1: You cannot watch a sporting event. You can't turn on
- 18:05Speaker 1: the ESPN. I was watching hockey last night. They have
- 18:09Speaker 1: odds on you know, who's scored the next goal on
- 18:12Speaker 1: what the over under is. Go on fan Duels right
- 18:15Speaker 1: now or whatever gambling site is sponsoring that segment. At
- 18:20Speaker 1: punch two buttons, We'll give you fifty dollars free credit.
- 18:24Speaker 4: Yep.
- 18:25Speaker 1: I mean it's too easy, and we're just this is
- 18:29Speaker 1: the tip of the If I'm a coach, I'm scared
- 18:33Speaker 1: to death. I am scared to death.
- 18:36Speaker 4: This is where we go back and were talking about
- 18:38Speaker 4: the ni L and these kids not having a train,
- 18:40Speaker 4: about having to pay taxes, which is.
- 18:41Speaker 1: The other thing. They have money now to spend money.
- 18:44Speaker 4: They have more nicer cars than the faculty.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Yeah, of course they do, because some of them are
- 18:48Speaker 1: getting paid, you know, coaches.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Yeah, so, but the life skills are gonna be really
- 18:54Speaker 4: important because I can just see this kid can't can't
- 18:58Speaker 4: afford to pay his taxes, so he volunteers to throw
- 19:01Speaker 4: a game to help make up for it, to pay
- 19:04Speaker 4: the gambling so that he can.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Pay or being debt because he's a bad gambler, right right.
- 19:09Speaker 1: I don't know how much sores be lost. I mean
- 19:12Speaker 1: I think there's records I haven't seen. I've seen him
- 19:15Speaker 1: any bets he's placed. I don't know how you know
- 19:19Speaker 1: how much money lost. But when did he get fired?
- 19:21Speaker 1: You said he got five millia to come to Tech.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, yeah, so he can he go.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Fourd to lose. But but some of these guys not not.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Let's let's be clear. He's a quarterback. Now, everybody's making
- 19:34Speaker 1: five million dollars at Texas A and M or Texas
- 19:36Speaker 1: Tech or anywhere else, right, they're not.
- 19:39Speaker 4: No, And this this problem goes back to Michael Jordan.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:43Speaker 4: I mean there's a reason he wouldn't get played baseball.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Yeah, because he was forced out. Yeah, he was forced
- 19:47Speaker 1: out of the league. Absolutely, he said you better. They
- 19:50Speaker 1: told him, you get straightened out, or are you not
- 19:53Speaker 1: coming back to play basketball.
- 19:54Speaker 4: Right because he was in with some dark, dark folks,
- 19:57Speaker 4: dark hey, and.
- 19:58Speaker 1: He told Phil Nichols in the same spot he was.
- 20:01Speaker 4: Making some serious money. And yet he still is in
- 20:04Speaker 4: a difficult situation.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Phil Mickelson was deep in debt, deep in debt, and
- 20:11Speaker 1: it still may be for all I know.
- 20:13Speaker 4: Yeah, that's sad.
- 20:14Speaker 1: It's right. So again for the kid getting help. But
- 20:20Speaker 1: I'm also for I'm also for yeah, for athletes. I'm
- 20:25Speaker 1: also for punishment. When you do things wrong, when you
- 20:28Speaker 1: break the rules, you should be punished, and it should
- 20:32Speaker 1: the punishment should fit the crime. Two games and sixty
- 20:36Speaker 1: thousand bets to me doesn't fit the crime. Thirty day,
- 20:40Speaker 1: thirty days in a gambling addiction facility in my mind,
- 20:46Speaker 1: and I don't know enough about it. I don't think
- 20:49Speaker 1: that's enough. I don't think that's enough to come out
- 20:51Speaker 1: and say, oh, you're clean, and Kirby Hokutt, Oh, he's
- 20:55Speaker 1: got to meet all these requirements and we're meeting every day.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Maybe they are. That's great, Maybe they are. That still
- 21:02Speaker 1: does not give him the right to play quarterback at
- 21:05Speaker 1: Texas Tech.
- 21:06Speaker 4: Well, It's like I said, the things that makes athletes
- 21:09Speaker 4: great is their competitive bands.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Absolutely their ego.
- 21:12Speaker 4: And the fact that they think that they can't be defeated.
- 21:15Speaker 1: And they're untouchable and untouchable. But that's at that age,
- 21:19Speaker 1: you're really untouchable.
- 21:21Speaker 4: What about pride?
- 21:22Speaker 1: Pride goes for the yall right, yeah, you're well, the thing.
- 21:25Speaker 4: That makes them get into that kind of dead is
- 21:27Speaker 4: because they they just know they're going to win the
- 21:29Speaker 4: next one.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely, so let's just ride this onean. You don't
- 21:33Speaker 1: think Pete Rose was competitive? Yeah, I mean, you know,
- 21:38Speaker 1: well double down tomorrow, Yeah, you know where it will
- 21:41Speaker 1: double down tomorrow.
- 21:43Speaker 4: Yeah. It's just a terrible.
- 21:47Speaker 1: And again, some people it is a disease like alcoholism
- 21:54Speaker 1: or sexual addiction or whatever. It's a drug addiction. It's
- 21:59Speaker 1: a disease, and you don't know, there are happy innings,
- 22:05Speaker 1: but I don't know too many where they just go
- 22:07Speaker 1: in and come out and go Okay, I don't have
- 22:11Speaker 1: any desire to bet anymore. Right, I don't have any
- 22:14Speaker 1: desire to drink anymore. Don't you talk to an alcoholic?
- 22:18Speaker 1: And every day is a battle. And my thinking is,
- 22:23Speaker 1: with that disease and still have a cell phone, every
- 22:29Speaker 1: day has to be a struggle for that kid. Every day,
- 22:34Speaker 1: and I think you're doing them a huge disservice. I
- 22:39Speaker 1: agree with you, But I saw a thing today. If
- 22:44Speaker 1: they do rule, if somebody one quarter or something, if
- 22:48Speaker 1: for whatever reason, this kid is not allowed to play,
- 22:51Speaker 1: then he's going to go into the NFL supplemental draft, right.
- 22:58Speaker 4: I mean that's an option, you know, the kids in
- 23:02Speaker 4: a He's already guys his five.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Million, so one way or the other.
- 23:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that's my understanding. And that's why I
- 23:10Speaker 4: takes so adaman about one of this kid to play.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Trying to get their money's worth.
- 23:14Speaker 4: They're trying to get their money's worth. They probably spent
- 23:16Speaker 4: the five million, so right now, I don't think that
- 23:19Speaker 4: they can go back on that.
- 23:20Speaker 1: So I don't understand all of the contracts and all
- 23:22Speaker 1: the issues. You know, it seems to be you'd have
- 23:26Speaker 1: contracts that if he violated a contract, he'd get to
- 23:29Speaker 1: keep five million dollars. But you know, I don't know.
- 23:32Speaker 4: Ye, I don't know how it all works either.
- 23:34Speaker 1: But it's also like contracts in that there's other schools
- 23:38Speaker 1: that were buying for his services. Sure, his agent comes
- 23:42Speaker 1: on and says, look, we've been offered five million somewhere else.
- 23:48Speaker 1: But we want his contract up front, right, we want
- 23:52Speaker 1: the five million, like I'm saying, like you said, and
- 23:55Speaker 1: I don't know. It's like, hey, school ax is going
- 23:59Speaker 1: to pay us, you know in five installments. You know,
- 24:04Speaker 1: we want like a signing bonus, which you know they
- 24:08Speaker 1: can do, right, they're agents, these guys are pros. We
- 24:12Speaker 1: want a signing bonus. So I'm sure he's already got
- 24:16Speaker 1: whatever percentage of what that five million is.
- 24:20Speaker 4: I got breaking news here for Okay, well, wait a minute,
- 24:29Speaker 4: seven day concussion.
- 24:31Speaker 1: I l seven day. I didn't know there was a seven.
- 24:34Speaker 4: Day apparently for concussions.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Okay, well, they already said he was at concussion symptoms.
- 24:40Speaker 4: They had the collision.
- 24:42Speaker 1: I saw the collision. I thought I heard at the
- 24:46Speaker 1: time that if he'd have been running hard from the beginning,
- 24:48Speaker 1: there wouldn't have been a collision. But I know that
- 24:51Speaker 1: he also wait a minute, I also know he has
- 24:53Speaker 1: leg issues and thought there wasn't going to be an
- 24:57Speaker 1: issue at the plate, right, I mean, he scored the run,
- 25:01Speaker 1: which they needed. But it's crazy, and now Helman's got
- 25:07Speaker 1: a broken hand. Who else is out the outfield? Carter?
- 25:13Speaker 1: Evan Carter is out What he do he has the
- 25:17Speaker 1: oblique bleak. Let's get take forever, holy smoked.
- 25:22Speaker 4: Heck for cats. He did, he did. But yeah, it's
- 25:27Speaker 4: it's all right.
- 25:28Speaker 1: So that's enough of that. We're going to talk. We're

- 30:44Speaker 1: Me, God, rusty person his head brought to you on Monday,
- 30:47Speaker 1: Spy in Tech. You watched any college World Series this weekend?
- 30:51Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, thanks for showing album impression.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Oh good gosh. Let's say fourteen to nine that were
- 30:57Speaker 1: outscored twenty three to two at two games. Yeah, got
- 31:00Speaker 1: a pitch.
- 31:01Speaker 4: I'll tell you what, man, that's embarrassing.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Yeah it is. I mean, uh, ole miss at least
- 31:06Speaker 1: scored and played, you know, decent baseball.
- 31:09Speaker 4: Impressed with Troy and West Virginia. Troy can hit, they
- 31:13Speaker 4: like they belong there. Yeah, and they're well.
- 31:16Speaker 1: They've they've got an elimination game tomorrow. Uh that they're
- 31:20Speaker 1: one of those will continue tomorrow afternoon and then they'll
- 31:23Speaker 1: have to beat North Carolina twice, which is not gonna happen.
- 31:26Speaker 1: That's I don't think it's going to happen.
- 31:28Speaker 4: No, But I salute them because they showed up. They
- 31:31Speaker 4: came to plug.
- 31:32Speaker 1: They did they played with the passion.
- 31:34Speaker 4: Alabama didn't pluy, they did not and you know what
- 31:37Speaker 4: Texas did doing today, it was just.
- 31:39Speaker 1: It was embarrassing. But but you know, uh again they
- 31:44Speaker 1: they help. They helped their own cause they kicked the
- 31:47Speaker 1: ball around. But Texas, you know, just killed the pitching.
- 31:50Speaker 1: They came out really aggressive because they were embarrassed. Was
- 31:54Speaker 1: it Saturday they played Georgia embarrassed seventy to one, right, yeah,
- 31:57Speaker 1: but they kicked the ball all over the field too.
- 31:59Speaker 1: They were just terrible. They didn't pitch that in catch,
- 32:01Speaker 1: that didn't hit.
- 32:02Speaker 13: Uh.
- 32:03Speaker 1: They just looked like a bad team. They look like
- 32:05Speaker 1: Alabama and today they look like a good team. But
- 32:08Speaker 1: but you don't know, you know, Alabama helped rite help
- 32:12Speaker 1: that and the kid the shortstop uh had seven RBIs,
- 32:18Speaker 1: which tied College World Series record. Who was only the
- 32:22Speaker 1: third player ever to hit for the cycle, Adrian Rodriguez,
- 32:25Speaker 1: And they had to change an umpires to a scoring
- 32:30Speaker 1: decision after the fact, and I didn't see it. Everyone
- 32:35Speaker 1: said it was the right call, that the that they
- 32:37Speaker 1: the score made the bad call to begin with. Uh.
- 32:41Speaker 1: But just in case, he had a fifth hit and double,
- 32:44Speaker 1: an RBI and the ninth and the eighth inning.
- 32:47Speaker 4: That's awesome.
- 32:47Speaker 1: So seven RBIs five for five hit for the cycle. Uh.
- 32:51Speaker 1: But again, they would have to be providing Georgia beats
- 32:55Speaker 1: Oklahoma tonight. I think they will. They would have to
- 32:58Speaker 1: beat Georgia twice. I don't see that happen. I think Georgia.
- 33:02Speaker 1: I think Georgia Oklahoma is playing well and they could
- 33:04Speaker 1: win the game. They're gonna have to outslug them, I think.
- 33:07Speaker 4: Well, yeah, I think they're in. They're capable of it
- 33:09Speaker 4: right now.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Well right now, they'rehitt the hitting everything, right. But I
- 33:13Speaker 1: just I like Georgia and I like North Carolina, and
- 33:16Speaker 1: I think those are the two best teams.
- 33:20Speaker 4: Does Sally The rest of the country is rooted for
- 33:22Speaker 4: North Carolina?
- 33:23Speaker 1: Oh but against the SEC?
- 33:26Speaker 4: Yeah probably if you're interested in college baseball, yeah probably,
- 33:29Speaker 4: and you're not an SEC guy.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Right, Well, yeah, well they're five five at eight right.
- 33:34Speaker 1: The whole SEC bracket, but they did the whole SEC
- 33:37Speaker 1: bracket because they don't want two SEC teams playing for
- 33:41Speaker 1: the championship. Probably could have happened. I mean, but but
- 33:45Speaker 1: old Miss, you know they were they were the loan
- 33:48Speaker 1: one in that half of the brackets, so they were
- 33:50Speaker 1: probably ever gonna win. On the other end of the
- 33:54Speaker 1: back bracket. The way Oklahoma is playing, I would say Georgia, Texas,
- 33:59Speaker 1: and oak Lahoma would all be worthy champions right right now.
- 34:07Speaker 1: So I still think an SEC team is going to
- 34:11Speaker 1: be going to be the champion. I tell you, if
- 34:15Speaker 1: some team other than Georgia comes out of the bottom
- 34:18Speaker 1: half of the brackety, either Texa or Oklahoma, they will
- 34:20Speaker 1: have really earned it. But they may not have any
- 34:24Speaker 1: pitching left. That's why you just in that double elimination format,
- 34:29Speaker 1: which I'm not a fan of. Man, you got to
- 34:34Speaker 1: win because you don't have pitching left.
- 34:36Speaker 4: No, exactly, right, So I mean it's I think you're right.
- 34:41Speaker 4: I was looking this up. The SEC has seventeen titles
- 34:46Speaker 4: college will series. That's second best behind the PAC ten
- 34:51Speaker 4: pack twelve. Yeah. Yeah, and that's just because USC was so.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Don USC and then Arizona State had to run as well. Yeah,
- 34:58Speaker 1: those are the only two teams.
- 35:00Speaker 4: He has twelve titles.
- 35:01Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, which is.
- 35:03Speaker 4: Still far and away. LSU's next with eight, yeah, and
- 35:06Speaker 4: then Arizona State has five. Right, so yeah, I mean
- 35:09Speaker 4: it's but therefore it's just dominant for a while. If
- 35:13Speaker 4: you look at you have to go back to twenty eighteen.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Well, now you put now you put taxes at the SEC,
- 35:20Speaker 1: and they've been dominant in baseball, right, and Oklahoma's had
- 35:23Speaker 1: a good run.
- 35:24Speaker 4: You have to go back to twenty eighteen to find
- 35:26Speaker 4: a non SEC winner.
- 35:28Speaker 1: Okay, so Vandy and four, I mean five, So there's
- 35:35Speaker 1: been six straight SEC teams.
- 35:38Speaker 4: Vandy, mississipp State, Old Miss, LSU, Tennessee, LSU.
- 35:42Speaker 14: Right, oh yeah, pretty dominant, pretty dominant, dominant.
- 35:46Speaker 4: But before that it was like Coastal Carolina, Florida, Oregon State. Yeah,
- 35:50Speaker 4: I mean, but yeah, I think the point is, I
- 35:53Speaker 4: think if you're interested in college baseball.
- 35:55Speaker 1: And you're not SEC guy, yeah, yeah, probably route for.
- 35:57Speaker 4: North Carolina because you're sick of washing every year.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Well, they've they've just you know, you can't, I mean,
- 36:04Speaker 1: you can't understate how dominant they've been. They've just been
- 36:08Speaker 1: the best. Well and you know, now we know that
- 36:11Speaker 1: could change. Like you mentioned before, that little run before
- 36:15Speaker 1: the run, right, it seemed like it was only l
- 36:17Speaker 1: SU that was uh, you know what.
- 36:20Speaker 4: The interesting thing is that you go back at twenty
- 36:22Speaker 4: twenty one, Missiggan State beat Vanderbilt to win it all. Yes,
- 36:26Speaker 4: twenty twenty three, LSU beat Florida to win. Yes, Tennessee
- 36:30Speaker 4: beat Texas A and M Yes.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Yes.
- 36:33Speaker 4: So yeah, It's been both a lot of SEC domination
- 36:36Speaker 4: in there, and.
- 36:37Speaker 1: This year has been no different. Frankly, I mean, the
- 36:40Speaker 1: whole bottom half of the brackets, the SEC, it's been
- 36:43Speaker 1: no different. I mean, they've just been the best at
- 36:46Speaker 1: what they at what they've done. And and you know,
- 36:49Speaker 1: because of the because of regionality. I mean you look
- 36:53Speaker 1: at UCLA, and I don't care what you say, they
- 36:57Speaker 1: wouldn't have been a Big ten represented. I still can't
- 37:02Speaker 1: get my head around that.
- 37:03Speaker 4: I can't.
- 37:04Speaker 1: It's nuts. I still don't look at Arizona and Arizona
- 37:08Speaker 1: State as members of the Big twelve. I forget that
- 37:11Speaker 1: every day. It's none of it's right, none of it
- 37:16Speaker 1: is right. Stanford is not the ACC right, I mean,
- 37:25Speaker 1: it's just it ain't right.
- 37:27Speaker 4: I've led the Big twelve and all this because they
- 37:29Speaker 4: got West Virginia. But just that was the start of everything.
- 37:34Speaker 1: No, the start of it, I tell you, the start
- 37:36Speaker 1: of the dominoes falling when Nebraska went to the Big Ten.
- 37:42Speaker 1: When when Nebraska left for they have never ever been.
- 37:47Speaker 4: The same, nor will they ever, and.
- 37:49Speaker 1: I don't think they will either in anything.
- 37:52Speaker 4: They're still really good volleyball.
- 37:54Speaker 1: I started the same volleyball. It's like, okay, you can
- 37:58Speaker 1: have that.
- 37:58Speaker 4: And they actually had freaking basketball team this year.
- 38:01Speaker 1: They did for the first time. Okay, for the first time.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Let's see if they can sustain that. They won a
- 38:07Speaker 1: game in the tournament. I'm not sure they can sustain that.
- 38:11Speaker 1: But when that domino fell, and Colorado's never been the same, right.
- 38:18Speaker 4: Because when this Big twelve started, Colorado and Nebraska.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Really good because they and Oklahoma. Yeah right, but the
- 38:27Speaker 1: front the old Big eight.
- 38:29Speaker 4: Yeah, but in particular, I remember Nebraska and Colorado being so.
- 38:33Speaker 1: And they hate each other. They hate each other. That
- 38:37Speaker 1: was a great rivalry.
- 38:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I enjoyed watching some of those games.
- 38:41Speaker 1: That was a great rivalry. They just really hated each other.
- 38:45Speaker 1: We missed those days. You don't miss Kansas and Missouri Nebraska.
- 38:52Speaker 1: You Nebraska, Oklahoma on Thanksgiving weekend, on Thanksgiving Day.
- 38:58Speaker 4: Yeah, and a lot of times they played on fri
- 39:00Speaker 4: they did.
- 39:00Speaker 1: They played some on Farriddi, no doubt. Okay, you remember
- 39:03Speaker 1: they had the worst turf in all oh it's brutal.
- 39:07Speaker 4: Every year it has like how do you stand up
- 39:10Speaker 4: on that stuff?
- 39:10Speaker 1: It was brutal. Johnny Rogers could actually he stood up
- 39:15Speaker 1: on the Oklahoma turf and it wasn't much better. He
- 39:19Speaker 1: was pretty good too, had a couple. Barry Switzer had
- 39:25Speaker 1: some teams. Man, oh my goodness, gracious, he had some teams.
- 39:29Speaker 1: He had some players.
- 39:30Speaker 4: He loved it.
- 39:34Speaker 1: He owned doctor Tom he did. He owned him, and
- 39:38Speaker 1: he owned the University of Texas, and he he owned everybody.
- 39:46Speaker 1: And he lets you know about it.
- 39:48Speaker 4: And they originally paid the most before and they did.
- 39:52Speaker 1: They they definitely paid the highest price. I've said this
- 39:55Speaker 1: many many times, but when I covered Eric Dickerson, I
- 39:59Speaker 1: saw every college coach in America that season, every college coach.
- 40:04Speaker 1: And I'll never forget the end of the championship game
- 40:09Speaker 1: at Baylor Stadium and Seally had just won and Dickerson
- 40:14Speaker 1: had just scored like seven touchdowns and Barry was and
- 40:17Speaker 1: it was cold that night, and Barry was decked out
- 40:20Speaker 1: in a fur coat, full length, full length fur coat,
- 40:25Speaker 1: sitting in the press box. I went down on the
- 40:27Speaker 1: field after the game to talk to Dickerson and the
- 40:30Speaker 1: coaches because I was covering Ceily. And he walks up
- 40:34Speaker 1: to Dickerson right after the game and goes Eric. The
- 40:37Speaker 1: only way Billy Sibbs doesn't win two Heisman trophies is
- 40:41Speaker 1: if you come to Oklahoma next year.
- 40:44Speaker 7: Man.
- 40:44Speaker 1: That is a good line. That and three Cadillacs of
- 40:48Speaker 1: get you to Oklahoma. Smu outspit him. He didn't see
- 40:53Speaker 1: that coming.
- 40:54Speaker 4: Neither did Texas.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Neither did Texas A and M. They lost the car
- 40:58Speaker 1: out of the deal. I did. I love those days, man, Yeah,
- 41:04Speaker 1: when you think that you could get a kid for
- 41:06Speaker 1: a transam and now it takes five million dollars at
- 41:11Speaker 1: a trans am back then probably cost fifteen thousand maybe
- 41:15Speaker 1: maybe maybe probably not that much, probably not So times
- 41:21Speaker 1: have changed. All right, let's talk Well, we are talking
- 41:25Speaker 1: professional sports, but we're going to talk about real professional
- 41:28Speaker 1: sports after this for Shorlty Roofing and the Ragers Report,
- 41:32Speaker 1: brought to you also by the Decker Financial Group.
- 41:36Speaker 15: It was after a hailstorm a few years back. I
- 41:38Speaker 15: needed a new roof. Yeah, I shopped around and then
- 41:40Speaker 15: I found Shorlty Roofing in Point.
- 41:42Speaker 1: I'm glad I did.
- 41:43Speaker 15: The folks at Shorlty guided me every step of the way.
- 41:46Speaker 15: They showed me my options, They told me what my
- 41:48Speaker 15: out of pocket cost would be after insurance. They took
- 41:51Speaker 15: the complication out of an otherwise very stressful situation. They
- 41:54Speaker 15: took off the damage roof, put on the new roof,
- 41:57Speaker 15: did all the clean up, and I had my new
- 41:58Speaker 15: roof in one day.
- 42:02Speaker 1: The whole boof. On trip back with your Rangers.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Report, did the Raiders finally get a win? In bean down?
- 42:12Speaker 7: Digging without contacting Texas eight one one first could cost

- 42:42Speaker 2: The Rangers have gone six and twenty two since twenty
- 42:45Speaker 2: seventeen playing at Fenway Park going into last night's game,
- 42:49Speaker 2: and they finally got the win with some big bats
- 42:51Speaker 2: in Beantown and.
- 42:53Speaker 3: The first pitch of the ball game, it's swung on
- 42:56Speaker 3: and plasted deep left field over the monster. That ball
- 43:00Speaker 3: is history and no doubt or by Wyatt Langford on
- 43:03Speaker 3: the first pitch of the game, way over the Monster
- 43:08Speaker 3: and the Rangers grab a quick one nothing lead.
- 43:13Speaker 2: And Nathan Valdi came out strong as well with six
- 43:15Speaker 2: k's on the night.
- 43:17Speaker 3: And here's the pitch He's struck, came out swinging. Evaldi
- 43:21Speaker 3: gets Yoshida.
- 43:24Speaker 1: On a breaking ball to in the inning.
- 43:26Speaker 2: Rangers found their way to get a win in Boston
- 43:28Speaker 2: six to four and head home to face the Twins
- 43:31Speaker 2: later today. At seven o five, I'm Trevor Beck with

- 44:13Speaker 5: and more. It's Murdy and McGee Murdy and McGee Saturday
- 44:16Speaker 5: mornings from sixty nine on the Sony eleven and ninety
- 44:19Speaker 5: three point seven FM.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Hey, welcome back, rusty persons, brought to us by Intech
- 44:55Speaker 1: on Mondays. Uh, you want to do the all time
- 45:00Speaker 1: Rangers lineup? I saved this for you. I think we've
- 45:04Speaker 1: done this before. You can probably get most of them.
- 45:07Speaker 1: You want to start at You want to start at pitcher?
- 45:11Speaker 1: Just what? There's no I beg your pardon. There's a
- 45:14Speaker 1: there's a starting pitcher. There's a relief pitcher. Well, Nolan
- 45:19Speaker 1: Ryan he's at Yeah. Uh, this is Fox Sports, by
- 45:24Speaker 1: the way, so it's just no John Wetland.
- 45:29Speaker 4: I can see that. Yeah, catcher's pudge yep first base.
- 45:37Speaker 4: Ah boy, this is kind of tough. It's I'm gonna
- 45:40Speaker 4: go Paul Merrow.
- 45:41Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's according there list Paul Merrill.
- 45:44Speaker 4: So I could have gone with Will Clark, could have
- 45:47Speaker 4: gone with Mark to sheriff, but it didn't play long enough. Right,
- 45:50Speaker 4: So second base I put I don't know where they
- 45:53Speaker 4: put him, but I put Michael Young second base. They
- 45:55Speaker 4: put probably put Kinsler.
- 45:57Speaker 1: They put Kinsler at second, they put Michael Young at
- 46:00Speaker 1: short stop.
- 46:01Speaker 4: Okay, well that's I understand.
- 46:04Speaker 1: That's kind of cheating a little.
- 46:05Speaker 4: I would not do that.
- 46:07Speaker 1: I wouldn't either. I would put Michael Young at second.
- 46:10Speaker 4: I put a right a short short Yeah. He played
- 46:14Speaker 4: three years, but he was dominant, yes for three years.
- 46:18Speaker 1: Yes.
- 46:19Speaker 4: Okay. So the outfield there are they really by opposition?
- 46:23Speaker 1: Uh, pretty pretty much, although you could you could sub
- 46:30Speaker 1: him in.
- 46:30Speaker 4: Uh, I would Josh Hamilton center.
- 46:32Speaker 1: Yeah, they've got him in center.
- 46:34Speaker 4: I'm gonna put and I guess this is gonna be
- 46:41Speaker 4: probably not on there, but I'm gonna put Rusty Greer.
- 46:44Speaker 1: Yeah he's not he's not on there.
- 46:46Speaker 14: Wangan Zalez is in left for for the purposes, okay,
- 46:53Speaker 14: Sierra's and and right yeah, and they put a d H.
- 46:58Speaker 1: D H yeah, yeah, not not somebody. You got to
- 47:04Speaker 1: go back to the start of the franchise, man Frank
- 47:08Speaker 1: Hondo Howard they put yeah as d H. Who else
- 47:12Speaker 1: would you put at d H. Who came to mind.
- 47:18Speaker 4: Nelson Cruz. But he played right field too often.
- 47:21Speaker 1: I think he played two innings too often, Yes, what
- 47:27Speaker 1: one inning too often?
- 47:29Speaker 4: He had a great career after he left the Rangers.
- 47:31Speaker 1: He had a great career with the Rangers.
- 47:33Speaker 4: I mean he was fantastic.
- 47:35Speaker 1: That was a huge in the playoffs, he was unbelievable.
- 47:37Speaker 4: They would never made the World Series without him against
- 47:39Speaker 4: Detroit No and so yeah, you know, other d hs
- 47:46Speaker 4: did pop up, and like they had. You can put
- 47:51Speaker 4: so many different guys on there. Yeah, it's kind of
- 47:58Speaker 4: hard to remember who was purely a DAH. I keep
- 48:01Speaker 4: thinking about like Willie Horton, had a Horton, you know
- 48:07Speaker 4: what I mean. There's so many other guys you could
- 48:10Speaker 4: think of that were really good for like very.
- 48:13Speaker 1: Brief that's the problem, right yeah, because.
- 48:15Speaker 4: I mean Fergy Jenkins could have been your starting pitcher, right.
- 48:18Speaker 1: Oh, autely. Absolutely, In fact, I thought of Fergie Jenkins.
- 48:23Speaker 1: You know, you can't overlook.
- 48:27Speaker 4: Al Oliver was an incredible hitter.
- 48:29Speaker 1: Al Oliver was phenomenal.
- 48:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, but it's only for a brief time
- 48:33Speaker 4: because Brad Corbett likes a trade guy so often.
- 48:37Speaker 1: And who's the second basement to win the batting title?
- 48:40Speaker 1: That that one? Yeah, Julio Franco fantastic who was great manager?
- 48:47Speaker 4: Oh well, there's only there's only one who's won a
- 48:53Speaker 4: World Series, that's true. I'm gonna go with Bochi, even
- 48:56Speaker 4: though I bet that's not him.
- 48:59Speaker 1: It's not which surprised me.
- 49:03Speaker 4: We're gonna go back in the nineties, which.
- 49:07Speaker 1: Is Bobby Valentine.
- 49:08Speaker 4: No, no, not Bobby was after Bobby. He's got his
- 49:12Speaker 4: jerseys retired.
- 49:15Speaker 1: I will tell you that Ron Washington was the manager,
- 49:19Speaker 1: and I just no, no, no, no, no, I don't
- 49:22Speaker 1: see that Ron.
- 49:23Speaker 4: Washington cost the Rangers of the World Series. I believe
- 49:26Speaker 4: that by not putting Indie Chobbs into substitute from c
- 49:31Speaker 4: Indie shab Is look him up.
- 49:32Speaker 1: He was Oh no, no, Look, he still could have
- 49:36Speaker 1: won the World Series if we wouldn't have had Johnny Oates.
- 49:40Speaker 13: Uh.
- 49:41Speaker 1: I think Johnny Oates would be my manager. Actually, he
- 49:44Speaker 1: took him to three out of four h playoff years
- 49:49Speaker 1: when they had never been to the playoffs.
- 49:51Speaker 4: Before back, and you look at that lineup did put together. Yeah,
- 49:55Speaker 4: there was almost all three hundred hitters.
- 49:58Speaker 1: You could go back to them lined ups Rusty in
- 50:01Speaker 1: the in the seventies and the eighties, before the nineties,
- 50:08Speaker 1: and you're going, holy crud, how could they not win
- 50:12Speaker 1: with these players?
- 50:14Speaker 4: And the truth is, my son sent me this little
- 50:16Speaker 4: thing about that.
- 50:18Speaker 1: They had Charlie Huff and Gaylord Perry on the same staff.
- 50:22Speaker 4: Well, Paul Merrow and one Gonzalez and Pudge and they
- 50:27Speaker 4: were all this Macklamore was leading off and all these
- 50:31Speaker 4: guys in Rusty Greer with part They had all these
- 50:34Speaker 4: guys three hundred How win? They ran into the Yankees? Yeah,
- 50:39Speaker 4: they ran into the most dominant Yankees three times.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:43Speaker 4: I mean that was the most dominant the Yankees have
- 50:46Speaker 4: been in my lifetime. Yeah, and you know they ran
- 50:49Speaker 4: into him every year. Otherwise that team could have won
- 50:53Speaker 4: a World Series.
- 50:55Speaker 1: They were good.
- 50:56Speaker 4: They were really good offensively especially.
- 51:00Speaker 1: All Right, so right now we're talking off the air.
- 51:04Speaker 1: This Rangers team's thirty five and thirty six. They're a
- 51:08Speaker 1: five hundred team. I think that's about what they are.
- 51:12Speaker 1: They're about a five hundred team. So it's just about right.
- 51:15Speaker 1: The good news is it's a five hundred division. Yeah,
- 51:20Speaker 1: and you know, I'm still thinking if you can, if
- 51:25Speaker 1: you can win eighty five games, you may win this division.
- 51:29Speaker 4: I've seen it, and you've seen it. May's alms. If
- 51:31Speaker 4: you can go back and you look at like two
- 51:33Speaker 4: thousand and ten, twenty eleven, there was a one period
- 51:37Speaker 4: where the Rangers would get they'd had like a ten
- 51:40Speaker 4: game win streak, and one of these teams, whether it
- 51:43Speaker 4: be Seattle or Oakland or Texas or Houston, one of
- 51:45Speaker 4: those teams is going to get on a run like that.
- 51:48Speaker 1: There's only two teams in my mind that are capable
- 51:51Speaker 1: of doing that, and that's Seattle in Houston. Those are
- 51:54Speaker 1: the only two teams I think. But look at let's
- 51:58Speaker 1: go just the last ten games. Let's look at the
- 52:02Speaker 1: records in the last ten games. Okay, Seattle's four and six,
- 52:07Speaker 1: Oakland's five and five, Texas is five and five, Houston
- 52:11Speaker 1: is five and five. Angels are six and four at
- 52:16Speaker 1: their best record, and they're fourteen under five hundred. I mean,
- 52:20Speaker 1: this is this is a five hundred division.
- 52:24Speaker 4: Well you know what I mean. You say that, but
- 52:27Speaker 4: like the Cubs may be the streakiest of all teams.
- 52:31Speaker 4: They've never had two ten win streaks. And there are
- 52:35Speaker 4: two games or actually there're one game over five.
- 52:38Speaker 1: I know, I know, And so what I'm.
- 52:40Speaker 4: Saying is that I've seen any team can get hot
- 52:44Speaker 4: for a period of ten.
- 52:45Speaker 1: Well, the Rangers top streak is five. Right, in my mind,
- 52:54Speaker 1: if you're gonna win ten in a row, you have
- 52:57Speaker 1: to have pitching and hitting going at the same time
- 53:00Speaker 1: to win ten in a row. Right, You can't just
- 53:02Speaker 1: have pitching giving up two runs a game and still
- 53:05Speaker 1: expect to win ten because his team had been good
- 53:07Speaker 1: enough offensively to do that, right, by the.
- 53:11Speaker 4: Way, you know, going back to your all the time team. Yeah,
- 53:14Speaker 4: I'm gonna say that it's real early to say this,
- 53:18Speaker 4: but right now, Jacob Latz is one heck of a reliever.
- 53:22Speaker 1: He's been good. I mean, he's been really good.
- 53:25Speaker 4: He's an All Star in my opinion.
- 53:27Speaker 1: Oh he should be. Yeah. If they only have one representative,
- 53:33Speaker 1: it should be it should be him.
- 53:34Speaker 4: If they have too, it should be him.
- 53:36Speaker 1: And Dura and Duran.
- 53:38Speaker 13: Right.
- 53:39Speaker 4: I saw that the ballot came out first voting.
- 53:41Speaker 1: He's second. He's second, Yeah, which surprised me.
- 53:43Speaker 4: But he has the best numbers.
- 53:45Speaker 1: He has the best numbers. That's why second.
- 53:47Speaker 4: So I think Josh Young's he's capable, but there's some
- 53:51Speaker 4: really good third base.
- 53:52Speaker 1: Yeah, he's not gonna be you know, he's not gonna
- 53:55Speaker 1: be mirrors.
- 53:56Speaker 4: I mean, there's no way. That guy's unbelievable. But Duran's
- 54:00Speaker 4: got a chance because I think Duran is the best
- 54:03Speaker 4: second baseman in the American League right now.
- 54:05Speaker 1: He's been really good, Yeah, really good.
- 54:07Speaker 4: And those are the only three guys, yeah, belonging to the discussion.
- 54:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I just keep waiting on Evin Carter Man. I
- 54:16Speaker 1: just keep waiting on Evin Carter And I don't understand it.
- 54:20Speaker 1: He's got so many tools, he's so gifted, and they
- 54:24Speaker 1: don't win the World Series without him, And I just
- 54:28Speaker 1: don't know what's happened. Well, he's I don't know what
- 54:31Speaker 1: it has to be middle It cannot be physical, No.
- 54:36Speaker 4: I'm with you. I mean, if you look what Josh
- 54:38Speaker 4: Young has done though, from a two strike standpoint, he's
- 54:42Speaker 4: been phenomenal this year.
- 54:43Speaker 1: Oh, he's been good. Josh Young's been very good. I
- 54:46Speaker 1: got no complaints with And he's a really good defender too,
- 54:49Speaker 1: really good, right, I got no complaints with him.
- 54:53Speaker 4: They may have lucked out on this catcher too. They
- 54:56Speaker 4: may have yeah, I mean Jenson when he went down,
- 54:59Speaker 4: they may have has picked up a really good one.
- 55:01Speaker 1: Yeah, this guy, he sure a guy out last night.
- 55:04Speaker 4: Yeah, guys out this weekend.
- 55:07Speaker 1: I've seen a Reger catcher do that' Sin's pudge exactly.
- 55:13Speaker 4: Yeah, you're joking.
- 55:15Speaker 1: So said, I'm not joking. I'm not joking. I have
- 55:19Speaker 1: said for twenty years. They still haven't replaced Punch, and
- 55:23Speaker 1: I don't think they ever will, because you cannot replace
- 55:27Speaker 1: the Hall of Famer.
- 55:28Speaker 4: I like it. Eli.
- 55:30Speaker 1: He's been good.
