- 0:05Speaker 1: I want to help you focus your life today on
- 0:08Speaker 1: your relationship with God. We've been asking the question this week,
- 0:13Speaker 1: who needs Jesus? We started off by pointing out that
- 0:18Speaker 1: when the first man and woman here on earth, uh,
- 0:22Speaker 1: who had a wonderful relationship with God, rejected God and, uh,
- 0:26Speaker 1: disobeyed him, something basic changed in their nature that broke
- 0:30Speaker 1: their relationship with God.
- 0:32Speaker 1: And that brokenness was inherited by their children and their
- 0:36Speaker 1: children and all the way down to us, so that
- 0:39Speaker 1: every person has a tendency towards selfishness and doing what
- 0:44Speaker 1: is wrong, but what is focused on ourselves. We don't
- 0:50Speaker 1: have to teach children to be selfish, do we? You
- 0:52Speaker 1: have no course with your kids that teaches them to
- 0:55Speaker 1: steal the other kids' toys or to shout in anger. No,
- 0:59Speaker 1: it comes naturally.
- 1:01Speaker 1: And as we grow up, it becomes more pronounced, sometimes
- 1:05Speaker 1: more cultured, more hidden by the expectations of society, but
- 1:09Speaker 1: still it's there, isn't it?
- 1:11Speaker 1: There's something in us that draws us away from what
- 1:15Speaker 1: we know is right and towards selfish action and attitudes.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Well, how are we going to change that? We need Jesus.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Only he can change that with his life in our lives.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Only he can restore to us a wonderful relationship with God.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Because of our disobedience and our constant doing of things
- 1:39Speaker 1: that we know goes against our conscience which God has
- 1:42Speaker 1: given us to show us when we disobey Him and
- 1:45Speaker 1: dishonour Him.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Because of that, we are guilty before God's judgement. God
- 1:51Speaker 1: is the ultimate judge of this universe, and one day
- 1:56Speaker 1: we'll stand before His judgement, and we'll have no excuse.
- 2:00Speaker 1: We will have broken His laws so many times, and
- 2:04Speaker 1: we know even now no one needs to convince us
- 2:07Speaker 1: that we have been selfish and destructive in our lives.
- 2:12Speaker 1: We've spoken to people in ways we shouldn't have spoken
- 2:14Speaker 1: to them.
- 2:15Speaker 1: We've acted in ways we shouldn't have acted. We have
- 2:18Speaker 1: ignored God in our lives.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Well,
- 2:23Speaker 1: What's our way of salvation? How can we be rescued
- 2:26Speaker 1: from that situation only by God, because there's nothing we
- 2:29Speaker 1: can do.
- 2:31Speaker 1: But God has done something, and I would just want
- 2:33Speaker 1: to read that passage with you again today, verses 4
- 2:37Speaker 1: through 10 of Ephesians chapter 2.
- 2:40Speaker 1: But God, being rich in mercy because of His great
- 2:45Speaker 1: love with which He loved us, even when we were
- 2:48Speaker 1: dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ.
- 2:54Speaker 1: By grace you have been saved. You've been rescued from
- 2:57Speaker 1: that by God's grace.
- 3:01Speaker 1: And he raised us up with Christ and seated us
- 3:04Speaker 1: with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus in
- 3:07Speaker 1: order that in the ages to come He might show
- 3:11Speaker 1: the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us
- 3:17Speaker 1: in Christ Jesus, for by grace, not because you deserve it.
- 3:23Speaker 1: But by grace you have been saved through faith. You
- 3:27Speaker 1: have to trust what God has done for you. You
- 3:29Speaker 1: have to receive it.
- 3:32Speaker 1: By grace you have been saved through faith, and even then,
- 3:36Speaker 1: though it's not of yourself, it's the gift of God,
- 3:40Speaker 1: not as a result of your own good works, so
- 3:43Speaker 1: that no one can boast, for we are God's workmanship
- 3:47Speaker 1: created in Christ Jesus for good works which God has
- 3:52Speaker 1: prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Your good works don't earn your salvation, but God wants
- 3:57Speaker 1: to change your life, change your inner heart attitude, so
- 4:01Speaker 1: that your life ends up being something that is full
- 4:04Speaker 1: of meaning and
- 4:07Speaker 1: Value that your life is lived for God and for people.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Only God can work that deep a change in your life.
- 4:15Speaker 1: It doesn't change by just receiving a bunch of laws
- 4:18Speaker 1: from the Bible. It only changes by God's work in
- 4:21Speaker 1: your heart. You need to come to Him and say
- 4:24Speaker 1: thank you for what you have done for me. I
- 4:26Speaker 1: didn't deserve it, but you did it for me, and
- 4:29Speaker 1: I receive and accept your forgiveness because of Jesus Christ,
- 4:34Speaker 1: and I want to live my life for you now.
- 4:38Speaker 1: I'm John North.
