- 0:11Hello friends, it's Shaun here. It's Friday, it's the 26th of
- 0:15July and we have made it to the end of another week.
- 0:19This has been my first week back at work.
- 0:21So for they are hard weeks aren't they?
- 0:24And I know a bunch of students have gone back to school this
- 0:27week. Some of you have been back for a
- 0:28while, I know, but whatever your week has been like, you have
- 0:32made it through. Well done.
- 0:33We are now in Friday and what a week.
- 0:37We have shared in the scriptures, being up in that
- 0:40room with Jesus, John's reflection of all of those
- 0:46important things that he wanted to share with his disciples,
- 0:49with us. But now we find ourselves here,
- 0:52here on Friday in the land of Psalms where we are going to
- 0:56share a Psalm. And yes, we are still pilgrims.
- 0:59We are still ascending that hill to Jerusalem together.
- 1:04And that is what we shall do today and for a number of
- 1:07Fridays after this. This is a song for pilgrims
- 1:10ascending to Jerusalem, a Psalm of David.
- 1:14And these are short little chipper psalms that praise God
- 1:20and spare us on as we head toward His promised city that
- 1:26stands ahead of all of us top that hill as we live our lives
- 1:30heading toward our eternity with our loving God and Saviour.
- 1:35Oh, how great is that? All right folks, let us do it.
- 1:38Let us read together Psalm 124. What if the Lord had not been on
- 1:55our side? Let all Israel repeat What if
- 2:00the Lord had not been on our side when people attacked us?
- 2:04They would have swallowed us alive in their burning anger.
- 2:09The waters would have engulfed us.
- 2:12A torrent would have overwhelmed us.
- 2:15Yes, the raging waters of their fury would have overwhelmed our
- 2:20very lives. Praise the Lord who did not let
- 2:25their teeth tear us apart. We escaped like a bird from a
- 2:29Hunter's trap. The trap is broken and we are
- 2:34free. Our help is from the Lord who
- 2:38made heaven and earth. Oh
- 2:51Jesus, we don't want to even consider for a second what life
- 2:54would be like without You here. The psalmist reflects that he
- 2:59would have been torn apart by his enemies had it not been for
- 3:02you and your presence. Ah, Lord, in the thousand ways
- 3:06we don't even understand. Everyday we just thank You for
- 3:10Your provision and the way that You carefully knit all around us
- 3:17this web of care and love and protection that most of the time
- 3:22we do not even know is there. Thank you Lord, for the Psalm
- 3:27that remind us that we live each day cradled in Your loving,
- 3:30gentle embrace. Thank you for your love.
- 3:35Thank You that you are our help, that you made heaven and earth
- 3:41and you hold us so gently in your hand.
- 3:44I pray that we would Live Today in that safe grasp of your hand
- 3:50and that we would know it. And we pray all of this in Jesus
- 3:54name, Amen.
