- 0:04Speaker 1: A couple of crazy things from earlier today before we
- 0:07Speaker 1: dive into some breaking news. I hosted Fair Territory today
- 0:12Speaker 1: with Ken Rosenthal. It was a blast. I got to
- 0:14Speaker 1: do my first ever dude in Dork of the Week.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Who did you choose?
- 0:19Speaker 1: Dude was Kirby Eights, Okay, dork was Jim Murray. Both
- 0:25Speaker 1: very very deserving of their awards. But two things that
- 0:31Speaker 1: stood out from that. One is it's just weird. We
- 0:33Speaker 1: were doing five intriguing teams to follow this offseason and
- 0:37Speaker 1: we're talking Padres and then I looked down on my
- 0:40Speaker 1: phone because grilan Ken was going to be next, so
- 0:41Speaker 1: I was starting to look to see what grilan Ken
- 0:44Speaker 1: questions there were and then it was like breaking Padres,
- 0:46Speaker 1: higher cruigs, Noam, and I was like, that's weird. And
- 0:48Speaker 1: number two, this is for a j Ken at the
- 0:52Speaker 1: top of the show called me Emperor and wanted you
- 0:55Speaker 1: to know that. He was like, I'm on with the
- 0:58Speaker 1: Emperor of Foul Territory. Sorry, Emperor, that was the word
- 1:02Speaker 1: to use. I was like, hey, you try to be humble,
- 1:04Speaker 1: so I'm not going to use that, but I will
- 1:08Speaker 1: use that just in my later show. And he said,
- 1:10Speaker 1: please do.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Ken must be really looking for a leader. He's really
- 1:16Speaker 2: searching far and wide for a leader for him. But wow, yeah, wow, Ken, Ken,
- 1:23Speaker 2: you need to quit text me.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I told him to come up with a better name
- 1:28Speaker 1: for you and something for you. Maybe by the next
- 1:31Speaker 1: time we have him, which I.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Believe is tomorrow tomorrow, he can come up with something
- 1:36Speaker 2: for me. Tomorrow.
- 1:37Speaker 1: It'll be easy for him to come up with something
- 1:38Speaker 1: tomorrow because you won't have a response. You'll have to
- 1:40Speaker 1: wait till Monday. So anyway, off season means a little
- 1:44Speaker 1: more back.
- 1:44Speaker 2: Way till he gets to Orlando for the Winter Meetings.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I'm going to pick him up and put him in
- 1:48Speaker 2: my pocket and carry him around for a few days.
- 1:50Speaker 2: We need will be my number two.
- 1:54Speaker 1: At some point we need to talk about Winter meetings
- 1:57Speaker 1: like a guide to Orlando for everybody coming to the
- 2:00Speaker 1: Winter Meetings. That might be your favorite segment ever a month.
- 2:06Speaker 2: I know. But the problem is where they're stay. There's
- 2:08Speaker 2: not much around there.
- 2:09Speaker 1: We have to use your car, drive around, taking cheating.
- 2:13Speaker 2: You need ubers because it's not really around much.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Okay, just for some context, since I've got the New
- 2:17Speaker 1: York City and Orlando balance, going two blocks on any
- 2:21Speaker 1: ride share service in New York is equivalent to like
- 2:24Speaker 1: a thirty minute ride in Orlando, just to give contact
- 2:27Speaker 1: how easy it is to grab a car and spend
- 2:29Speaker 1: twenty bucks or whatever to go somewhere versus New York
- 2:33Speaker 1: two blocks traffic, you get out, you're like, actually, I
- 2:35Speaker 1: could have walked.
- 2:35Speaker 2: But the problem is where I think, said JW. Marriott,
- 2:38Speaker 2: And is that where it is? I think it's at
- 2:40Speaker 2: check the Hotel, which is one of the great hilarious
- 2:44Speaker 2: things of all time about Orlando and Disney World. So
- 2:47Speaker 2: Disney World has this massive property right hundreds of thousands
- 2:50Speaker 2: of acres. Well, there was a guy back in the
- 2:52Speaker 2: day that heard that Walt Disney was going to build
- 2:55Speaker 2: disney World here, and he hated Walt Disney. So he
- 2:58Speaker 2: bought a bunch of acres right in the middle of
- 3:00Speaker 2: his plot first, and he has it where you can
- 3:03Speaker 2: never build and never be sold to Disney. So in
- 3:05Speaker 2: the middle of this big, gigantic expanse of Disney World,
- 3:09Speaker 2: there's a circle it's called Bonnet Creek, and there's like
- 3:12Speaker 2: a Waldorf, there's a JW. Maria, and there's another hotel,
- 3:15Speaker 2: and they're not part of Disney but they're in the
- 3:17Speaker 2: middle of Disney property and they can't ever be owned
- 3:20Speaker 2: by Disney. It was like the biggest fu to Walt
- 3:22Speaker 2: Disney of all the time. He literally has his giant
- 3:24Speaker 2: property in the middle of the golf course, you know,
- 3:27Speaker 2: multiple hotels, all this stuff, and it's right there in
- 3:29Speaker 2: the middle. And that's where I think the winter meetings are.
- 3:32Speaker 2: And then to get anywhere you have to go out. Yeah,
- 3:36Speaker 2: out out.
- 3:36Speaker 1: There's a rooftop restaurant where I've been a couple of times,
- 3:39Speaker 1: and everybody watches the Disney fireworks because they've got prime view.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean it's right, you can watch this
- 3:45Speaker 2: in my backyard. But they're right, Oh I know, Yeah,
- 3:49Speaker 2: they're in the property. I mean the talk about a
- 3:51Speaker 2: nephew to some some Yeah, that's good. Oh yeah. And
- 3:55Speaker 2: he has it like in it when he died, he
- 3:56Speaker 2: had it in his will that they can never be
- 3:58Speaker 2: sold to Disney ever. I mean, it's Jimmy Bee's prime.
- 4:02Speaker 2: It would be prime hotel property for reducing.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Yeah, they would spend anything to get that exactly. Wow,
- 4:06Speaker 1: that's good. All right, So we'll do an Orlando primer
- 4:08Speaker 1: at some point to talk more about everybody coming down
- 4:11Speaker 1: here in a month. But let's get to breaking news
- 4:15Speaker 1: about Craig Stamon is the next manager of the San
- 4:21Speaker 1: Diego Padres. Forty one years old, spent the last six
- 4:25Speaker 1: seasons of his big league career, a long one as
- 4:28Speaker 1: a reliever with the Padres, and this would comes out
- 4:31Speaker 1: of left field three year contract with Stammon and the Padres.
- 4:34Speaker 1: He's been working for the team since he retired, so
- 4:38Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, twenty four and twenty five as a
- 4:41Speaker 1: special assistant to the general manager. And he worked a
- 4:46Speaker 1: little bit with the major league team, a little bit
- 4:47Speaker 1: with the minor league team. What do we think about this?
- 4:50Speaker 1: Then we'll get to the Pooholes and anyone else that
- 4:52Speaker 1: was in the running factor, But what do we think
- 4:54Speaker 1: about Craig Stamon? A young Craig Stamon taking over in
- 4:57Speaker 1: a big time role like this with some big personalities
- 5:00Speaker 1: and a team that is expecting to be in their
- 5:02Speaker 1: winning windows.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Still, this is the new way. This is they say
- 5:06Speaker 2: in the Mandalorian and other Disney reference. This is the
- 5:09Speaker 2: way you get into an organization and you've become a
- 5:12Speaker 2: special assistant to the manager of the GM the owner
- 5:16Speaker 2: and then when they have a job opening, they hire
- 5:18Speaker 2: you because they already know you, and you've already told
- 5:20Speaker 2: them all your ideas and like, I like his idea,
- 5:22Speaker 2: and oh if you get and then they can say, oh, well,
- 5:25Speaker 2: I've heard him talk about this, I like that idea,
- 5:27Speaker 2: or I like this, I like that, and then this
- 5:28Speaker 2: is this is kind of the way. And then also
- 5:30Speaker 2: they say, oh wait, I can I already know him
- 5:34Speaker 2: so I could tell him what to do and we
- 5:35Speaker 2: have the same ideas on everything, and then we do
- 5:38Speaker 2: you know this and that? So I mean, I hope
- 5:40Speaker 2: it works for the Padres. We'll see, but I don't know.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Craig Stammond has always come across as a smart guy
- 5:46Speaker 2: and a nice guy. But we'll see. I mean, he's
- 5:49Speaker 2: been there for a couple of years now, so they
- 5:50Speaker 2: know him better than we do. But you know, good luck.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Everybody I know that played with him says incredible, dude.
- 5:58Speaker 3: My biggest hang up anytime a pitcher gets a managerial job,
- 6:03Speaker 3: it is hard to part of probably one of the
- 6:06Speaker 3: biggest things of managing a team is how you manage
- 6:10Speaker 3: your bullpen. So he knows that part of it. He knows,
- 6:13Speaker 3: you know, when guys lie, when guys don't lie how
- 6:15Speaker 3: far to push some guys? You know how far he
- 6:18Speaker 3: could be pushed. So I think he's got great insight
- 6:22Speaker 3: on that, great experience on that. But how much does
- 6:25Speaker 3: he know the other ins and outs of being in
- 6:29Speaker 3: the dugout. I'm not talking about x's and o's of baseball.
- 6:32Speaker 3: I think you can be learned out of the bench
- 6:35Speaker 3: coach that does all that. But how much does he
- 6:38Speaker 3: know the ins and outs of pushing a Manny Machado,
- 6:42Speaker 3: pushing a Xander Bogart's pulling back the reins on a
- 6:47Speaker 3: Fernando Tatis, Like that's the kind of stuff that he's
- 6:50Speaker 3: going to have to navigate.
- 6:51Speaker 2: I think sometimes.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Pitchers don't always have the experience the insight. He's been
- 6:58Speaker 3: in the organization, so he knows how organization works. Great dude,
- 7:02Speaker 3: sounds like he's an incredible people person. But to make
- 7:06Speaker 3: a political reference, back when George Bush was finding a
- 7:11Speaker 3: vice president, he hired Dick Cheney to be his vice president.
- 7:15Speaker 3: After he had hired Dick Cheney to be the person
- 7:18Speaker 3: to go find him his vice president. So is this
- 7:21Speaker 3: what happened with Craig Stamon. Craig Stamon was in on
- 7:24Speaker 3: all the all the managerial meetings and he's.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Like, pretty good, it's pretty good. And he just took
- 7:30Speaker 2: everybody's ideas and he's like, I'll be the manager. I
- 7:37Speaker 2: just I just I don't know. I mean, again, this
- 7:40Speaker 2: is another fascinating higher because who's his coach is going
- 7:42Speaker 2: to be. That's what this all comes down to. Vitello,
- 7:46Speaker 2: but Terra and now Stamm and all these guys that
- 7:49Speaker 2: really have no experience ever being in the dugout of
- 7:53Speaker 2: a major not that statement has him been in the dugout,
- 7:56Speaker 2: but I mean, like running a team, not a coach.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Who are they hired to help them? That's the biggest
- 8:02Speaker 2: That's what I want to see. What's their network like
- 8:05Speaker 2: and who can they bring in that they trust to
- 8:07Speaker 2: help them run the bullpen. I know Neeblo is probably
- 8:10Speaker 2: gonna stay there, so I'm assuming Stams is gonna be
- 8:12Speaker 2: like Ruben, you run the pitching staff and I'll just
- 8:15Speaker 2: take care of the other side of it. But who's
- 8:17Speaker 2: going to be their bench coach? Who's going to be
- 8:18Speaker 2: this guy? Who's going to be that guy? That's the
- 8:20Speaker 2: things to me that are fascinating about these hires is
- 8:22Speaker 2: can it work? Absolutely? But they've also never had to
- 8:25Speaker 2: make decisions. Do I bring in a pitcher? Do I
- 8:27Speaker 2: bring in do I pinch it? Do I do I
- 8:29Speaker 2: do this? Do I do that? How do we do this?
- 8:31Speaker 2: There's a million things that happen so fast, and I
- 8:33Speaker 2: think every manager you talk to that does this for
- 8:35Speaker 2: the first time is amazed by how fast the game
- 8:37Speaker 2: actually goes. When you're sitting in that seat, and you
- 8:39Speaker 2: better have somebody sitting next to you, that one you
- 8:42Speaker 2: can trust, you can have arguments with and get over
- 8:44Speaker 2: with it and get over it and also know that
- 8:47Speaker 2: they have your best interest and also the team's best
- 8:50Speaker 2: interests in mind. Because Krats, I'm sure you played on
- 8:52Speaker 2: teams and I've been around it where coaches don't always
- 8:56Speaker 2: mingle because sometimes guys have different motives and because they're like, oh,
- 9:01Speaker 2: maybe if he gets fired, I can slide into that job,
- 9:04Speaker 2: right Like, So, I mean, there's always there's always ulterior motives,
- 9:07Speaker 2: And that's the thing that's fascinating is how do you
- 9:09Speaker 2: find the right guy to be by your side through
- 9:13Speaker 2: thick and thin.
- 9:14Speaker 3: Maybe Craig has somebody like that. Maybe I don't know,
- 9:18Speaker 3: I don't know, but I know Ryan Flaherty was on
- 9:22Speaker 3: that staff. I'm not sure his status now, but he's
- 9:25Speaker 3: been interviewing for some jobs. Ruby Diebola, I think it
- 9:29Speaker 3: was actually in the running for this job. So do
- 9:32Speaker 3: you bring two coaches back that didn't get the job
- 9:36Speaker 3: that they wanted and now they're just being your you know,
- 9:41Speaker 3: on your staff instead of being the head honcho. I saw.
- 9:44Speaker 3: I saw one time we had a bench coach and
- 9:46Speaker 3: I won't because I'm not gonna throw I'd love to
- 9:48Speaker 3: throw the one person under the bus, but I'm not
- 9:50Speaker 3: gonna throw the other guys under the bus.
- 9:52Speaker 2: The bench coach. And then there was like a big
- 9:55Speaker 2: league coach on this team that the manager would look
- 10:00Speaker 2: past the bench coach. They would all stand all three
- 10:03Speaker 2: right on the rail and look past the bench coach
- 10:06Speaker 2: for the other guy's the other guy's opinion on subjects.
- 10:11Speaker 2: And the bench coach incredible, very talented, knew the game,
- 10:16Speaker 2: all that stuff, and he just had to stand there
- 10:17Speaker 2: and just it was so awkward. It changed the next year,
- 10:21Speaker 2: but it was so awkward to see him always like, Hey,
- 10:24Speaker 2: what do you think about this? Hey, what do you
- 10:26Speaker 2: think about this? And the bench coach was like and
- 10:31Speaker 2: anytime he spoke up, it was bad news, but it was.
- 10:34Speaker 2: I was. It's so awkward, So hopefully that doesn't happen.
- 10:40Speaker 1: How do you think a recently retired player will do
- 10:43Speaker 1: who has spent time now in the front office, and
- 10:47Speaker 1: I would assume is on the same page as AJ
- 10:49Speaker 1: Preller with this particular ball club. This is a team
- 10:52Speaker 1: that expects to keep winning. It is a party, it
- 10:55Speaker 1: is an awesome scene. We've talked about this in San Diego.
- 10:58Speaker 1: They fill that place up. The fan base is rabid,
- 11:01Speaker 1: and they want more winning. I don't know what they'll
- 11:04Speaker 1: do this off season yet. I don't think they're going
- 11:06Speaker 1: to spend like crazy. AJ, but this is the type
- 11:10Speaker 1: of team in my mind, that has some veterans who
- 11:14Speaker 1: are strong personalities. And I don't want to say necessarily
- 11:18Speaker 1: how to say in this, but I wouldn't be surprised
- 11:20Speaker 1: that there were conversations an I. Machado has been there
- 11:23Speaker 1: for a long time. He really likes to be involved
- 11:25Speaker 1: with the leadership portion of a team. I'm assuming that
- 11:30Speaker 1: he gave two thumbs up on this one.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Yeah, he would have to. You have to know did
- 11:36Speaker 2: he play with stanman there as a player when Manny
- 11:38Speaker 2: got there, or was he already.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Gone, I'll check that while you're talking about.
- 11:42Speaker 2: It, because yeah, listen, there's probably two people on this
- 11:45Speaker 2: team you really need to get well. It was probably three, actually, Nanny,
- 11:51Speaker 2: Fernando and I would have said, you Darvish, but you
- 11:54Speaker 2: Darvish is out for twenty six, so I would have said,
- 11:56Speaker 2: those are probably the three people you would have They
- 11:58Speaker 2: did play to get crossed, Okay, So they know each other,
- 12:00Speaker 2: so they have a relationship prior to this, So I
- 12:04Speaker 2: think that, Yeah, I think they definitely had to ask
- 12:06Speaker 2: probably those three guys before they made this higher because
- 12:09Speaker 2: Manny has a lot of poll. He had a lot
- 12:10Speaker 2: of pool, especially when Peter Sider was alive, he had
- 12:13Speaker 2: a lot of pool. You could go to the owner
- 12:14Speaker 2: and just get anything done. So I like the fact
- 12:18Speaker 2: that they probably involved players. We don't know that for sure,
- 12:20Speaker 2: but it just sure seems like it was part of it.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Okay, good luck to Craig. We'll learn more about how
- 12:26Speaker 1: that all went down next layer. For the last couple
- 12:29Speaker 1: of minutes, Albert Poohols will be shut out from a
- 12:33Speaker 1: manager role. There were a ton of openings. The only
- 12:35Speaker 1: one left is the Rockies. As Ken said on Fair Territory,
- 12:40Speaker 1: he does not want that. I wouldn't call it smoke fog.
- 12:44Speaker 1: So he's not going to be a manager to start
- 12:45Speaker 1: twenty twenty six, he will manage the Dominican Republic team
- 12:48Speaker 1: in the World Baseball Classic. But are you surprised that
- 12:50Speaker 1: he didn't get one of these, especially after the.
- 12:52Speaker 2: I thought he was going to go to the Angels.
- 12:54Speaker 2: I thought Angels was going to be the one.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Right, and you just said, hey, work with a team,
- 12:59Speaker 1: then they bring you on. Already was interested, but might
- 13:03Speaker 1: have offered him a one year deal.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Or he's also got a new GM this year that
- 13:09Speaker 2: team and Albert played for for a long time Cardinals bingo.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Yeah, but yeat, he wants that job too, and Ali
- 13:15Speaker 1: Marmo might no.
- 13:16Speaker 2: I know, listen, I mean him bloom though, is new
- 13:19Speaker 2: Oli Marmle? I love obviously, I love Ali Marmon, But
- 13:25Speaker 2: new GM, new front office knew everything. Maybe Albert sits
- 13:29Speaker 2: out for a year and says, hey, look what I
- 13:30Speaker 2: did for the Dominican in the World Baseball Classic, much
- 13:33Speaker 2: like Mark de Rosa does all the time, tooting out
- 13:35Speaker 2: thing to try to get a job.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Right, Well, he has to sit out now, I know.
- 13:39Speaker 2: But I'm just saying he sits out, and he says, oh, well,
- 13:41Speaker 2: I really wanted to go to Saint Louis the whole time.
- 13:44Speaker 2: You know, I don't know, but like I thought he
- 13:46Speaker 2: was going to get the I thought he was going
- 13:48Speaker 2: to get the Angels job. Everyone was saying that he
- 13:50Speaker 2: was going to get the Angels.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Yeah, and he didn't. Kratz question for you on Poolholes.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Do you think that he should spend this season on
- 13:57Speaker 1: a major league coaching staff. I don't know if he will.
- 14:00Speaker 1: He does some TV work, he's doing the DRWBC and
- 14:05Speaker 1: it gets complicated. He shouldn't be worried about money, but
- 14:08Speaker 1: he'd probably have to give up the one million bucks
- 14:10Speaker 1: for a you know, one hundred and fifty thousand dollars
- 14:13Speaker 1: coaching contract instead. Should be no big deal if the
- 14:16Speaker 1: long term goal is manager. I'm just saying. The Angels
- 14:18Speaker 1: do have that situation by the balls to some extent.
- 14:22Speaker 1: But if you were him and you really want to manage,
- 14:23Speaker 1: shouldn't he try to link up with a team this year?
- 14:26Speaker 1: It might be too late because most of the coaching
- 14:27Speaker 1: stats have been picked by your thoughts.
- 14:31Speaker 3: I think he went through all the I think he
- 14:32Speaker 3: went You have to interview. First, my buddies who have
- 14:35Speaker 3: become managers are like, look, the interview process is different.
- 14:40Speaker 2: It's like it's long. It's not like, oh I can't
- 14:43Speaker 2: handle it, but it's exhausting because it's just you know,
- 14:46Speaker 2: they put a situation, the lineup, what the record of
- 14:49Speaker 2: the team is at the time, and then a situation
- 14:52Speaker 2: that happens in the clubhouse, and.
- 14:53Speaker 3: Then you know this is going on during the game.
- 14:56Speaker 3: How would you handle this? And you have like an
- 14:58Speaker 3: hour to figure it out. It's like basically taking tests.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Now he's gone through that. To me, whatever reason he
- 15:06Speaker 3: didn't get the job, Like if it's with the Angels,
- 15:07Speaker 3: he didn't get the job because he was like, no,
- 15:10Speaker 3: you're still gonna pay me my million dollars that I
- 15:12Speaker 3: would have gotten, and you're gonna pay me like a
- 15:14Speaker 3: regular manager. You know, maybe he isn't that far off
- 15:17Speaker 3: of being a manager. If the other teams are like, eh,
- 15:19Speaker 3: you know, we're gonna go in another direction. It's not me,
- 15:23Speaker 3: it's you kind of thing. He needs to work on
- 15:25Speaker 3: that kind of stuff.
- 15:26Speaker 2: And I never being a manager, but only talking to
- 15:29Speaker 2: my buddies who have managed and are working towards being managers.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Being on the bench matters so much. It matters to
- 15:36Speaker 2: your street cred with players, it matters to how you
- 15:39Speaker 2: figure out. I mean, Albert's been out of the game
- 15:42Speaker 2: for a few years. Things change, You figure out how
- 15:45Speaker 2: to deal with the new player, and I think Albert
- 15:48Speaker 2: has to learn how to talk to the twenty to
- 15:52Speaker 2: twenty sixth the man on the roster. Not saying he
- 15:54Speaker 2: didn't when he played. I'm just saying superstars, that will
- 15:57Speaker 2: always be their hurdle when they go to be a manager.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Some of these hires or candidates like Albert could have
- 16:05Speaker 1: a high ceiling, but he also could have a low floor.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Craig Stammon being part of the Org now for multiple years,
- 16:11Speaker 1: knowing the guys like that gives him a higher floor
- 16:13Speaker 1: than Albert Poohls. I think that's part of this, Like, Hey,
- 16:16Speaker 1: what's the best and worst case scenario here for a
- 16:18Speaker 1: team that's contending for a playoff spot. I think that's
- 16:21Speaker 1: a factor when they made their decision.
- 16:24Speaker 3: But again, when does this work out? We asked this
- 16:27Speaker 3: about the Blake Butterra thing. When does this work out?
- 16:30Speaker 3: When does a Hall of Famer step in to being
- 16:33Speaker 3: a manager without any experience and it work out.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Yeah, not often. I mean, Albert has some people very
- 16:43Speaker 1: much on his side that think he's going to be great,
- 16:45Speaker 1: But nobody made the choice this time around. Omaha Steaks
- 16:53Speaker 1: is the official sponsor of tailgating.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Yes, tailgate, and I know about tail.
- 17:00Speaker 1: This guy knows you want a good burger. Mm hmm
- 17:04Speaker 1: o Maha Steaks.
- 17:05Speaker 2: I've even gone so far as to buy a little
- 17:07Speaker 2: charcoal grills that you can take with you that are
- 17:09Speaker 2: about the a big and take my Omaha steaks and
- 17:12Speaker 2: put them on a grill right there and eat them
- 17:13Speaker 2: before a game and sometimes even after.
- 17:16Speaker 1: For more than a century, Omaha Steaks has delivered the
- 17:19Speaker 1: world's best steak experience. We all know it's not just
- 17:23Speaker 1: about the steaks. And if you want the ultimate tailgating experience,
- 17:28Speaker 1: you're ordering the steaks, shrimp, cocktail, sign me up. And
- 17:32Speaker 1: the burgers are next level as you would expect.
- 17:35Speaker 2: You can't even do the chicken on a grill. The
- 17:36Speaker 2: chicken bross, the chicken right on the grill boom.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Make game day delicious with the official sponsor of tailgating.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Visit Omaha Steaks dot com and get thirty five dollars
- 17:44Speaker 1: off with promo code foul at checkout. That's Omaha Steaks
- 17:47Speaker 1: dot com and promo code foul at checkout terms apply
- 17:50Speaker 1: sea site for details. A few things transaction wise. Number one,
- 17:55Speaker 1: the Orioles signed up Leodi Taveres. He was once more
- 17:59Speaker 1: highly reg one year. Two million is the number. He
- 18:03Speaker 1: hasn't shown a lot. Let me get two more in there.
- 18:06Speaker 1: That popped up in the last hour. Ramon and Lariano
- 18:10Speaker 1: had an option for like less than seven mil. That
- 18:12Speaker 1: got picked up. He had a great year. That's what
- 18:14Speaker 1: the Padres. I'm just tying these teams together because they
- 18:16Speaker 1: made that trade. And then we also learned Ruben Dioble
- 18:19Speaker 1: he is going to stay on as the pitching coach
- 18:21Speaker 1: for the Padres. That's from Alden Gonzalez. So a lot
- 18:24Speaker 1: of little things coming through.
- 18:25Speaker 2: So yeah, So Craig Samon is saying, hey, just go
- 18:27Speaker 2: run the pitching.
- 18:29Speaker 1: I'll take you should have some ideas, although his ideas
- 18:34Speaker 1: have already been expressed. He's been with the team for years,
- 18:36Speaker 1: does a great job. This is good for continuity if
- 18:39Speaker 1: that's what you're into.
- 18:41Speaker 2: The other side is more of a I don't know,
- 18:45Speaker 2: we'll see, we'll see. I hope it works out for
- 18:47Speaker 2: because for the Padres, because they have a good thing going.
- 18:49Speaker 2: I don't want it to go away.
- 18:50Speaker 1: I don't think they want to shake things up too much.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I think they like what they've got right now. Okay,
- 18:57Speaker 1: bring someone else in. There's risk factor external higher.
- 19:01Speaker 2: I hope they spend some money and bring back some
- 19:03Speaker 2: of their players.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Mm hm. They will still bring back the same guys,
- 19:08Speaker 1: but they'll do something. Hey, they made one of the
- 19:10Speaker 1: best signings of last offseason. Nick povetta is signed up
- 19:13Speaker 1: to a nice contractor he was a number two starter
- 19:18Speaker 1: this year. Yeah, pitched like a two, like a really
- 19:22Speaker 1: good two. Hey, congrats to Kenta Maida. He is returning
- 19:27Speaker 1: to Japan, So I think he's retiring from LB. I
- 19:29Speaker 1: don't think he's going to come back at this point.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Had a nice run. He wasn't as good the last
- 19:34Speaker 1: whatever a couple of years, I guess at this point.
- 19:37Speaker 1: But he was really good for a bit.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Who had a good career. It's some money too, it's
- 19:42Speaker 2: money Rodgers, Twins, Tigers or else? Was he so only
- 19:48Speaker 2: three I can think of off the top of my head.
- 19:49Speaker 2: That might be it Mets. No, he didn't spend a
- 19:54Speaker 2: season with the Mets.
- 19:57Speaker 1: No, just those three.
- 19:58Speaker 2: You gotta just those three. I mean, listen, he was
- 20:01Speaker 2: kind of an interesting guy because he was came up
- 20:05Speaker 2: as a starter. But then is his career when he
- 20:07Speaker 2: kind of became like a swingman at the.
- 20:09Speaker 1: End of the season. Always they would try.
- 20:10Speaker 2: To put him in the bullpen, and yeah, make him
- 20:12Speaker 2: because he had that nasty slider. He's an interesting he
- 20:16Speaker 2: had a nice job though. He's hid a nice career
- 20:17Speaker 2: in Japan. Now he's going back.
- 20:19Speaker 1: It's also almost thirty eight years old.
- 20:21Speaker 2: So what I'm amazed is like a lot of the
- 20:23Speaker 2: Japanese guys I played with Crafts, like Tadahito Agucci. I
- 20:26Speaker 2: thought he was done over here, and then he goes
- 20:28Speaker 2: over Japan and plays like seven more years.
- 20:31Speaker 1: It's incredible.
- 20:32Speaker 3: It really is like incredible fitness of those guys. They
- 20:36Speaker 3: do it completely different. Japanese players do it completely different
- 20:39Speaker 3: than American players do. From high school all the way
- 20:43Speaker 3: on a super dedicated, super very intricate workouts. Flexibility, mobility.
- 20:50Speaker 3: Eachiro would always talk about it. Roald bidey As would
- 20:53Speaker 3: talk about all the stuff Eachiro would do. I know,
- 20:55Speaker 3: each row is a freak. Ky's Hall of Famer but
- 20:59Speaker 3: they really go to a gym in Japan looks completely
- 21:03Speaker 3: different than the gym's over here.
- 21:05Speaker 1: M hm. A couple of Cubs questions. One was say,
- 21:11Speaker 1: why did they get Tucker in the first place, Well,
- 21:13Speaker 1: rentals are real. Other teams rentals. The Yankees rented and.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Yeah, but the difference in Soto is that the Yankees
- 21:19Speaker 2: actually tried to resign. They wanted to re sign Sodo.
- 21:22Speaker 2: I mean, the Cubs have pretty much come out and said, yeah,
- 21:24Speaker 2: we don't really care. He was here for one year
- 21:26Speaker 2: and we're gonna move on because we can't afford them.
- 21:28Speaker 2: The Yankees legitimately wanted Soto back. They they threw everything
- 21:32Speaker 2: out him, and the Mets just beat them. So ore
- 21:34Speaker 2: I mean corb Yeah, but to me, the Corbyn Burns
- 21:37Speaker 2: trade they made. They made an offer, They made him
- 21:40Speaker 2: an offer, they made him a huge offer. He didn't
- 21:42Speaker 2: accept it.
- 21:44Speaker 1: That's fair.
- 21:44Speaker 2: So the Cubs different. The Cubs will say we tried.
- 21:49Speaker 1: And also there was another question about Dansby Someone's.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Asking Andy's got four more years? Yeah?
- 21:53Speaker 1: Or about They were like, can you go into detail
- 21:56Speaker 1: how they only have under contract after twenty six? And
- 21:58Speaker 1: I was like, is there an op out? Now there's
- 21:59Speaker 1: not He's there for a long time.
- 22:07Speaker 2: See finally a good finally, good front end graphic. Finally,
- 22:11Speaker 2: finally you like that. Yeah, but the only problem is
- 22:14Speaker 2: Michael didn't have his socks on, and that.
- 22:16Speaker 1: And shake it up. Well, you need to tell everybody
- 22:19Speaker 1: what you just saw, because there are many people that
- 22:22Speaker 1: listen to via podcast.
- 22:23Speaker 2: There's me being a bartender and serving drinks to Michael.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Our social underage are underage. He's not underage, and he's
- 22:35Speaker 2: not an intern either, and he's famous. Now now whatever
- 22:39Speaker 2: he is, let's get he sleeps in his socks, He'll
- 22:41Speaker 2: always be my intern until he.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Doesn't sleep in his socks. Jay Stingler is going to
- 22:49Speaker 1: join Tony Vaytello's staff in San Francisco. They were college
- 22:53Speaker 1: teammates at Missouri and they have remained close friends. Okay,
- 22:58Speaker 1: it's a good experience.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Jas that experience.
- 23:00Speaker 1: He's coached for a while, he's managed. That's a good one.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good start. Yeah, stuff, Especially they're close friends.
- 23:06Speaker 2: He's got someone there that supports them.
- 23:09Speaker 3: And I don't want to I don't want to bury
- 23:11Speaker 3: the lead, but ninety percent sure he's coming on the
- 23:14Speaker 3: show tomorrow. Tingler to talk about it, but he's in
- 23:18Speaker 3: the middle of Zoom meetings, so I'm just being completely honest.
- 23:22Speaker 3: If he gets a Zoom meeting, he won't be Omega.
- 23:24Speaker 3: But tomorrow Ftfense, so you'll get more Tingla.
- 23:30Speaker 1: That'd be awesome.
- 23:31Speaker 3: The person that played with that had the least the
- 23:33Speaker 3: least power ever, Me and Jays played in Hi A
- 23:38Speaker 3: together minus power. You know when you see like the
- 23:42Speaker 3: little kids like the little kids hit and the ball
- 23:45Speaker 3: hits their bat and the bat likes bounces back.
- 23:48Speaker 2: That was Tangler. But in pro Bawl was he a
- 23:51Speaker 2: contact titter super contact.
- 23:54Speaker 3: They would draw the left fielder in because he would
- 23:56Speaker 3: just he made the All Star team in High A
- 23:58Speaker 3: because he was just so balls over the shortstops head.
- 24:01Speaker 3: And then they started bringing the left fielder in super
- 24:04Speaker 3: contacted her.
- 24:05Speaker 1: What if we combined you and Jase Tingler as a player.
- 24:09Speaker 3: I mean, the amount of Sexiest Men of the Year
- 24:13Speaker 3: award that you would win it would be ridiculous, but.
- 24:17Speaker 2: I do like it.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Now you have somebody that has been a manager in
- 24:20Speaker 3: the big leagues knows Tony as well as you can
- 24:23Speaker 3: know Tony, and Jase has done everything. Jase has gone
- 24:27Speaker 3: from he ran the Dominican Academy. He then brought like Rugie.
- 24:35Speaker 3: I'm trying to think all those guys Jackson profar, those
- 24:38Speaker 3: guys that came up with the Rangers, brought them up
- 24:41Speaker 3: back up to the States, and then he managed them
- 24:44Speaker 3: at each level. Then he was like a quality control coach.
- 24:47Speaker 3: Then he was a big league manager. Then he's been
- 24:50Speaker 3: a bench coach for a while, so he's seen He's
- 24:53Speaker 3: seen a lot. So I think it's a great hire.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Speaking of buyers, Bruce Bochi back to the Giants as
- 25:02Speaker 1: a special assistant.
- 25:03Speaker 2: The Giants are just bringing. Why don't they hired Bruce
- 25:05Speaker 2: Bochi is the bench coach. I don't think. I don't
- 25:08Speaker 2: want to do that. I'm always a ratager. I rather
- 25:11Speaker 2: be in the office with Bustner.
- 25:14Speaker 1: That would be a demotion. Susan Slesser, who is the
- 25:16Speaker 1: special contributor to splash Hit Territory brand new show and
- 25:20Speaker 1: FP Santangelo hosting. Susan tweeted, I joined FP again on
- 25:25Speaker 1: splash Hit. We talked about my chat with Greg Johnson
- 25:28Speaker 1: in the San Francisco Chronicle, including Bruce Bochi's return and
- 25:32Speaker 1: other topics. But Greg Johnson is the controller, right, Is
- 25:35Speaker 1: he the main guy controlling the team these days or whatever?
- 25:38Speaker 2: No, I have no idea.
- 25:40Speaker 1: I don't know, but he's a decision maker.
- 25:42Speaker 2: So this is great though. This is another person that
- 25:46Speaker 2: Tony Vitello and Chase Tangler and the rest of his
- 25:48Speaker 2: crew Buster Posey included, can bounce ideas off of. I
- 25:53Speaker 2: love this. Listen. Just because you're in a position of
- 25:57Speaker 2: power doesn't mean that you can't have people that one
- 25:59Speaker 2: aid you can have conversations with and they might disagree
- 26:02Speaker 2: with you, but at least you get ideas and you
- 26:04Speaker 2: can bounce ideas off people, and as long as you're
- 26:06Speaker 2: okay with not always agreeing with you, like Boach, probably
- 26:09Speaker 2: won't agree with everything Buster Posey says, but at least
- 26:12Speaker 2: you have a sounding board in Boach and Tingler and
- 26:15Speaker 2: Vitello can bouncings off of each other and see where
- 26:17Speaker 2: it goes. Because this is how you learn and get better.
- 26:19Speaker 2: You got to be able to talk and not get
- 26:21Speaker 2: mad and then move on. And I think the Giants
- 26:23Speaker 2: are trying to assemble a staff from front office down
- 26:26Speaker 2: that can have open dialogue, and that's a good thing.
- 26:30Speaker 3: I sat in I sat in the catchers and pitchers
- 26:33Speaker 3: meetings pre series. When I played for the Giants, Boach
- 26:36Speaker 3: was in there, Buster was in there, like the guys
- 26:40Speaker 3: like those are two guys, Buster and Bochi that just
- 26:43Speaker 3: watch a lot of baseball.
- 26:45Speaker 2: They remember a lot of baseball.
- 26:47Speaker 3: So are they going to be the guy who's just
- 26:50Speaker 3: taking over meetings if they're sitting in there watching. No,
- 26:53Speaker 3: But they add different things that.
- 26:56Speaker 2: That will help.
- 26:57Speaker 3: And I think Tony seems like somebody that's open to
- 27:03Speaker 3: other people's opinions and isn't afraid to listen to somebody
- 27:08Speaker 3: that has more experience in an area.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Bruce Boats used the legend you want him around as
- 27:17Speaker 1: much as possible, and he's not going to get in
- 27:18Speaker 1: the way either. You know what I'm saying. Like, there's
- 27:20Speaker 1: some guys that are there and it's like you gotta
- 27:24Speaker 1: be careful with what they're doing, and saying Boach is
- 27:27Speaker 1: the opposite of that. It's just like good times, good hangs,
- 27:31Speaker 1: great advice, the whole deal. It's like they're bringing the
- 27:34Speaker 1: band back together, right, let's bring the winners back. That
- 27:41Speaker 1: was beautifully done.
- 27:42Speaker 2: By the way, with the.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Subscriber little thang, you got the glare right out beautiful. Okay,
- 27:51Speaker 1: just want to remind everyone splash It Territory and Bucco
- 27:57Speaker 1: Territory and Riverfront Territory. Three new shows there. They are
- 28:02Speaker 1: gonna keep reminding you this week to tell your friends subscribe.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Say splash three time, splash splash it, splash it. Mm hmm.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Didn't go the direction there, are right, you guys should
- 28:19Speaker 1: need How much is done? Yeah, the whole, the whole
- 28:23Speaker 1: team production, social. We are all in this slack channel
- 28:25Speaker 1: and just go back and forth like, oh, let's try
- 28:29Speaker 1: the skull on the O and let's switch the bow.
- 28:32Speaker 2: It's cool.
- 28:33Speaker 1: We have a free agent coach, John Hammond reporting that
- 28:37Speaker 1: Don Mattingly is stepping away from the Blue Jays on
- 28:39Speaker 1: great terms and leaving them an excellent position. But this
- 28:42Speaker 1: is not a retirement announcement. He is open to new opportunities.
- 28:47Speaker 1: I want him to get it.
- 28:48Speaker 2: This is to me why because everyone got along so
- 28:52Speaker 2: well there and matting I mean, does he want to
- 28:54Speaker 2: be a he's not going to be a manager.
- 28:55Speaker 1: I have an idea. I think he maybe moved back
- 28:59Speaker 1: to the US, or to move back to the US.
- 29:01Speaker 1: I mean he's got a young kid. I think still yeah,
- 29:04Speaker 1: but no, you don't.
- 29:05Speaker 2: Think that's what I just I think this one's interesting
- 29:08Speaker 2: to me because everyone's you know, all you hear from
- 29:10Speaker 2: every guy is like, man, we got along so great,
- 29:12Speaker 2: and wow, we loved each other and we wanted to
- 29:15Speaker 2: be with each other and this and that, and then
- 29:16Speaker 2: all of a sudden, maddeningly, he's like, I'm stepping away out.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Maybe he hasn't you know that he would be a
- 29:21Speaker 2: great hire as a bench coach for Greg's dammon in
- 29:24Speaker 2: San Diego. I don't know. I mean true, you know,
- 29:28Speaker 2: just someone that's been around, it's managed, he's done it all.
- 29:30Speaker 2: So I don't know. I'm just it's just interesting.
- 29:33Speaker 1: You want the title too.
- 29:34Speaker 2: He got so close.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Just now, great, that's all you got?
- 29:45Speaker 2: Did you come across all?
- 29:46Speaker 3: I got no Dinny baseball, and I never did. But
- 29:50Speaker 3: Schneid's was like a kid in a candy store. He
- 29:53Speaker 3: was like he was like a kid when he like, hey,
- 29:56Speaker 3: you have five hundred dollars to spend it toys r
- 29:58Speaker 3: us and he was like.
- 29:58Speaker 2: WHOA I get Don Maddenley as my bench coach. He's like,
- 30:04Speaker 2: I don't even know what to do.
- 30:05Speaker 3: I don't even know what to do with my hands
- 30:08Speaker 3: like he's a legend, and I think he's somebody that
- 30:13Speaker 3: did great managing. He did well, honestly, got a lot
- 30:16Speaker 3: of players that played for him enjoy playing for him.
- 30:18Speaker 3: But what now, I mean, do you run it back
- 30:23Speaker 3: with the same team. Maybe he didn't like being up
- 30:25Speaker 3: in Canada away from family. Who knows. I mean, the
- 30:29Speaker 3: dudes had thirty nine years in baseball. Forty years in baseball.
- 30:34Speaker 3: That is so many years.
- 30:36Speaker 1: He'll find a job, He'll get something he's pretty well liked. Yeah,
- 30:41Speaker 1: Schnider was funny because you got to see more personality
- 30:44Speaker 1: from him this year as they were very successful, and
- 30:47Speaker 1: he's loving being with Donnie Baseball. He loves that he
- 30:51Speaker 1: gets to pull Scherzer right. I was waiting for that moment.
- 30:55Speaker 1: I enjoy that kind of openness from a manager. I'm
- 31:01Speaker 1: dialed in, but I'm also having a lot of fun
- 31:03Speaker 1: and I know how appreciative I should be in this position.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I liked that relatable guys. I did a couple of
- 31:19Speaker 1: topics here in hot corner. This first bit of news
- 31:23Speaker 1: was basically known. I believe that in his press conference
- 31:28Speaker 1: at the end of the season, Dave Dobrowski mentioned this
- 31:30Speaker 1: and it happened. Jose Alvarado was suspended for PDS, missed
- 31:35Speaker 1: half the year, had a nine million dollar club option.
- 31:39Speaker 1: They decided to bring him back, and Matt Gell wrote
- 31:43Speaker 1: in The Athletic Kyo he would have been one of
- 31:45Speaker 1: the best lefty relievers on the market. They've talked about
- 31:47Speaker 1: this a lot on the Philly show, Pratts, you're our
- 31:49Speaker 1: Philly guy. Are you good with this? They're looking at
- 31:54Speaker 1: it as we know him and we know what a
- 31:58Speaker 1: picture like him would get in the free agent market.
- 32:00Speaker 1: The other side of it is he got popped for peds.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Is he the same guy when he goes through multiple
- 32:06Speaker 1: cycles without it? Your thoughts?
- 32:09Speaker 3: I mean, rarely is the guy that got popped only
- 32:13Speaker 3: did it once? But yeah, you know what, who knows?
- 32:17Speaker 3: Who knows if he's going to be the same guy.
- 32:19Speaker 3: He was pretty nasty when he wasn't like this spring training.
- 32:22Speaker 3: I think he had like something ridiculous, like twenty strikeouts
- 32:26Speaker 3: in spring training in like eight innings that he threw.
- 32:29Speaker 3: And then he started the season out he was slinging
- 32:32Speaker 3: it like. He definitely had an uptick, not necessarily in
- 32:34Speaker 3: his velocity, but the results of this stuff. So he
- 32:38Speaker 3: was good before that, he was good last year. I
- 32:41Speaker 3: guess I don't have a problem with it if if
- 32:44Speaker 3: his teammates don't have a problem with it, and everything
- 32:46Speaker 3: we heard from Topper to different guys we had on
- 32:50Speaker 3: they loved Tozy and so that's the only time when
- 32:53Speaker 3: it would be you know, maybe we don't bring him back,
- 32:56Speaker 3: but it's hard to turn down one of the top
- 32:58Speaker 3: left handed relievers for only nine million dollars for one year.
- 33:02Speaker 3: I mean, that would be a that'd be a bold
- 33:03Speaker 3: statement by the Phillies to not pick this option of.
- 33:07Speaker 2: David Nebrowski said on our show he was gonna pick
- 33:09Speaker 2: it up. I mean he said it right.
- 33:12Speaker 1: I didn't remember if we talked about it he.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Brought it up. He's like, oh, yeah, it was definitely
- 33:16Speaker 2: coming back. I mean, so there was no suspense in
- 33:19Speaker 2: this one. I mean, listen, steroid p D guys have
- 33:25Speaker 2: they're just forgiven and forgotten. Now honestly, it's not are they.
- 33:32Speaker 1: I mean, you guys tell my teams. Do teammates care? No?
- 33:37Speaker 2: Not really, they don't, right because they That's what I'm saying.
- 33:39Speaker 1: If he comes back and he pitches, well, then you know,
- 33:42Speaker 1: if you're Bryce Harper or Turner.
- 33:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean Fernando Tatis. You think the Padre's care
- 33:47Speaker 2: that he got in trouble for PDS. He say, Baseball
- 33:50Speaker 2: doesn't even care. They put him, really cares well.
- 33:54Speaker 1: The one risk is I mean, if you get popped again,
- 33:56Speaker 1: then you're out for the full season.
- 33:58Speaker 2: And okay, how how did that affects Alex Rodrigos.
- 34:02Speaker 1: I mean, he's another world.
- 34:03Speaker 2: I'm just saying, how did that affect him? Does anybody
- 34:06Speaker 2: care anymore that he did that? Yes? Who? Okay? But
- 34:11Speaker 2: I'm just saying, most fans out there do they care?
- 34:13Speaker 1: Hall of Fame voters?
- 34:15Speaker 2: Okay?
- 34:16Speaker 1: Do most fans care? I actually think they do.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Do they for him? Yes?
- 34:19Speaker 1: Because he did it a billion times? I think for
- 34:21Speaker 1: others it's harder to know exactly how deep it got.
- 34:25Speaker 1: His story.
- 34:25Speaker 2: We know how deep it got. He I mean, he's
- 34:27Speaker 2: told us a million times he did it since he
- 34:29Speaker 2: first started. Because he had Alex.
- 34:31Speaker 1: I'm saying for other guys, they usually don't.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Bartolo Colone. People love Bartola Colone. Everyone just conveniently forgets
- 34:38Speaker 2: he was a steroid guy. Melson Cruise, Nelson I was
- 34:41Speaker 2: there when Nelson Cruz got suspended. It was one of
- 34:43Speaker 2: the most happy. They're nice guys, they're happy it doesn't work.
- 34:49Speaker 2: I mean, I'm not trying to pick them people. We're
- 34:52Speaker 2: getting farther and farther from it. Mattering actually mattering for
- 34:58Speaker 2: people testing positive for steroids. Because Jerkson profar he still
- 35:05Speaker 2: gets all of the rest of his contract. Was that
- 35:07Speaker 2: worth it?
- 35:08Speaker 3: Yes, re people reboot their image, they get to go
- 35:14Speaker 3: back out and they play again. So unfortunately we're getting
- 35:18Speaker 3: farther from it, Matt from it mattering to.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Your career. Eh, you know, he was a steroid guy,
- 35:27Speaker 2: but ah, who cares. We're putting them on on our
- 35:29Speaker 2: team's Hall of Fame. Ah, he's a steroid guy, but
- 35:31Speaker 2: who cares. He's funny, he's a nice guy. He's got
- 35:34Speaker 2: a great smile. Like it really doesn't have the effect
- 35:37Speaker 2: that I think some players feel like it does. And
- 35:42Speaker 2: whether that's jealousy from those players or that's just players
- 35:49Speaker 2: being like, I know what I put into it, and
- 35:50Speaker 2: I didn't cheat, and this guy still gets like notoriety,
- 35:54Speaker 2: And I don't know what the answer is, like ban
- 35:57Speaker 2: them from everything baseball? No, nobody's nobody's gonna do that.
- 36:02Speaker 1: Do you guys think there should be stricter penalties, and
- 36:04Speaker 1: do you think players.
- 36:06Speaker 2: I just don't think it matters anymore. I mean I
- 36:07Speaker 2: think I think if I'm a person and I just
- 36:11Speaker 2: want to make a bunch of money, and I can
- 36:13Speaker 2: do this, and I can get a big contract and
- 36:15Speaker 2: I miss half a year. So let's say I sign
- 36:17Speaker 2: a five I miss going random or five year fifty
- 36:19Speaker 2: million dollar contract and I have to give up five million,
- 36:22Speaker 2: so instead I get five million. Forty five million. Seems
- 36:26Speaker 2: like a pretty good deal to me because they can't
- 36:28Speaker 2: take that money away. So I mean, listen, it's it
- 36:31Speaker 2: is what it is. Where we're out of the game.
- 36:33Speaker 2: They're trying to clean it up. There's no way to
- 36:35Speaker 2: there's no perfect answer. Yeah right, But what I'm saying
- 36:37Speaker 2: is is that when you're talking about this, people forget.
- 36:40Speaker 2: They move on. There's the new cycle with social media
- 36:43Speaker 2: is so short now. But oh he was suspended, Oh care,
- 36:46Speaker 2: Oh he's back. Yes he can help us get to
- 36:48Speaker 2: the playoffs. Cool. Yeah, I said, that's where we're at.
- 36:52Speaker 1: I think opposing fans care. But then the fans.
- 36:56Speaker 2: Get after a year anyways, because then it's onto the
- 36:58Speaker 2: next thing. People. I'll tell I told the story many times.
- 37:00Speaker 2: When I was in Anaheim, years after the two thousand
- 37:03Speaker 2: and five when all this stuff happened with me in
- 37:05Speaker 2: two thousand and five, fans are booing me and a
- 37:07Speaker 2: good buddy I was sitting in the stands and he
- 37:09Speaker 2: looks at him and goes, hey, why are you guys
- 37:10Speaker 2: booing it? And they go, I don't know. I guess
- 37:11Speaker 2: he used steroids or something. They have no idea, They
- 37:15Speaker 2: have no idea. He's so I'm gonna boo. The astros
- 37:20Speaker 2: trash can thing has lasted longer than guys doing steroids hatred.
- 37:26Speaker 1: It's not even close, not even close.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Yeah, which one? Which one cheated the game more?
- 37:30Speaker 1: Which one's a bigger advantage?
- 37:33Speaker 2: I would I would contend to almost the steroids.
- 37:36Speaker 1: Gosh, if you're on the right roids, look at some
- 37:38Speaker 1: of the careers, I mean, any victories. It's an important thing.
- 37:42Speaker 2: I hate getting into this because it just gets it
- 37:44Speaker 2: gets it gets me.
- 37:45Speaker 1: We don't talk about it very often, so I know
- 37:47Speaker 1: it was worth a few minutes to find out. Really,
- 37:49Speaker 1: if you guys think the penalties are strict enough and
- 37:53Speaker 1: you're saying no one cares, okay, well it's it is
- 37:55Speaker 1: still half a season. Like you do miss that player,
- 37:58Speaker 1: and also you do miss that play in the postseason.
- 38:01Speaker 1: I do like that part. Right, you don't get to
- 38:02Speaker 1: have that player come back if.
- 38:03Speaker 2: Your jersey profile and your team doesn't make the postseason?
- 38:06Speaker 2: Who cares?
- 38:06Speaker 1: I agree? And also if you sign a contract that's
- 38:09Speaker 1: long term, it's not like it messes up the rest.
- 38:11Speaker 1: There's some fans will be like, oh, that voids the
- 38:13Speaker 1: contract and that that's tricky because.
- 38:16Speaker 3: Then that's the owners. The owners are like, fine, I'll
- 38:19Speaker 3: take I'll take a no, no long term contract. So
- 38:22Speaker 3: there's there's got to be some culpability there where. It's
- 38:26Speaker 3: also like you're protecting you're protecting players too, so I
- 38:31Speaker 3: get it, Like you avoid contracts, Oh man, that would
- 38:34Speaker 3: be great. Owners would be like, we're kind the whole thing.
- 38:39Speaker 2: It brings in a whole it brings in a whole
- 38:41Speaker 2: different thing because you can listen if there's a bad contract.
- 38:46Speaker 2: And I've heard people talk about this before, like you
- 38:48Speaker 2: can who's to say, oops, oops, I put something in
- 38:52Speaker 2: your food by you know, And.
- 38:55Speaker 1: When it comes to that much money, that's what I'm.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Saying, like you and I know it's a crazy conspiracy theory,
- 39:00Speaker 2: but not I've heard new many people say, like that
- 39:03Speaker 2: could be a problem.
- 39:04Speaker 1: It's it is a significant reason.
- 39:06Speaker 2: Here's a smoothie from the team, Oh it had something
- 39:09Speaker 2: in it, and oh you're getting drug tested after the game.
- 39:11Speaker 2: You had no idea. I didn't take anything.
- 39:15Speaker 1: You sign up a guy for two hundred and fifty
- 39:17Speaker 1: million dollars and you suddenly hate him. That's a way
- 39:20Speaker 1: to get rid of him.
- 39:21Speaker 2: That's why that'll never happen.
- 39:22Speaker 1: So that's a slippery slope. But that's why it's a
- 39:26Speaker 1: good topic. It's it's complicated. It's not easy.
- 39:28Speaker 2: No, it's not. It's a really complicated I just asked
- 39:31Speaker 2: the question, like you know that people people forget they do,
- 39:34Speaker 2: fans forget, forget quick you're right on the news.
- 39:39Speaker 3: My solution is, you can't get any awards after that.
- 39:42Speaker 3: You test positive for steroids, you can't. You can't make
- 39:45Speaker 3: an All Star team, can't win MVPs, you can't. You
- 39:48Speaker 3: can't win those awards all your teams.
- 39:50Speaker 2: They don't. They don't care about that. I mean, if
- 39:53Speaker 2: you're if you're a long term deal, who cares. I mean,
- 39:55Speaker 2: if you're to get pup, you're not going to the
- 39:56Speaker 2: Hall of Fame. So then who cares if you win
- 39:58Speaker 2: MVPs and all that stuff. I mean, and that's if
- 40:00Speaker 2: I'm in a two hundred million dollar contract and I lose.
- 40:03Speaker 2: You know, Oh, no, I can't go to an alscar game.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Everyone outs out of those anyways. Oh I can't be
- 40:08Speaker 2: the MVP. I'm probably not gonna win one of those anyways.
- 40:11Speaker 3: So, but this way, you're not taking it from other people.
- 40:14Speaker 3: This way you're not taking Jerckson profar. Jerkson Profar took
- 40:17Speaker 3: somebody's job, and I forget what his name was in
- 40:22Speaker 3: both of them were on the team at the beginning
- 40:23Speaker 3: of the year in San Diego. Obviously, Jerkson had the
- 40:27Speaker 3: year that he had. His ex velocity went up five
- 40:29Speaker 3: miles per hour at age thirty.
- 40:32Speaker 2: And that guy ended up going down.
- 40:36Speaker 3: He's kind of been bouncing up and down from the
- 40:37Speaker 3: big leagues the last two seasons like that. That's where
- 40:41Speaker 3: that's where I think it comes in. Is it the notoriety? No,
- 40:44Speaker 3: It's like I just don't want I don't want someone
- 40:46Speaker 3: else taking somebody else's award that did it clean.
- 40:51Speaker 2: You're talking about completely different things here, got a job.
- 40:54Speaker 2: You're talking about a job that's not even you're talking
- 40:57Speaker 2: about maybe two different award or job like no, no, no.
- 41:00Speaker 3: No, I'm saying that it affects other people. When people
- 41:03Speaker 3: do steroids, it affects other people, no doubt.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay, Well to be continued. I'm sure that
- 41:11Speaker 1: this will come up at some point again, but good
- 41:14Speaker 1: discussion and really just wanted to know, like, how else
- 41:17Speaker 1: can you make this a more prominent penalty if you
- 41:20Speaker 1: feel like it deserves to be that way? Because players
- 41:22Speaker 1: did want more of a penalty, and they did up
- 41:25Speaker 1: the penalty, right, it was lower at some point and
- 41:27Speaker 1: they pushed it up. Anyway, let's swing back, we'll do all.
- 41:30Speaker 1: That's what he said. Coming up next a clip from
- 41:33Speaker 1: Crush City Territory. But MGM, social media account, what do
- 41:43Speaker 1: you have for us today? Give one MLB off season
- 41:46Speaker 1: bold prediction? Do you want me to read some examples
- 41:51Speaker 1: that were replies to that tweet, Jordan said, Pete Alonzo
- 41:54Speaker 1: signs with the Atlanta Braves. Why they have a first baseman?
- 41:59Speaker 2: Ya? That is bold?
- 42:01Speaker 1: That is bold. I mean he can dh Marcel Zoon
- 42:04Speaker 1: is a free agent. They can.
- 42:06Speaker 2: He won't want to do that though I know he won't.
- 42:09Speaker 1: But that that rules him out of a lot of places,
- 42:11Speaker 1: like if Kyle Schwarber leaves for some reason and they
- 42:14Speaker 1: want a different DH, Pete could be that guy. But
- 42:17Speaker 1: he has to be okay.
- 42:18Speaker 2: With that slide right in there.
- 42:19Speaker 1: I think he would do it because you'll still fill
- 42:22Speaker 1: in guys get hurt and shuffle around. I don't know
- 42:25Speaker 1: one other. I'm not going to read it anyone.
- 42:28Speaker 2: Else, anyone else you guys that one? What was the
- 42:33Speaker 2: other one?
- 42:35Speaker 1: I'm sick of it.
- 42:36Speaker 2: I haven't got into the off season mode yet. I'm
- 42:38Speaker 2: still recovering, like Keika Hernandez from that from the World Series.
- 42:43Speaker 1: I have something for you that just happened that a
- 42:45Speaker 1: lot of fans were asking about, specifically related to our show.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Alden Gonzalez just tweeted the Dodgers have picked up Max
- 42:51Speaker 1: Munty's option for twenty twenty six. It's ten million dollars.
- 42:53Speaker 2: That's the easiest. That's of all time.
- 42:55Speaker 1: They keep signing him to those deals and Max love stayless.
- 42:58Speaker 1: Guy said, not everybody goes for the top dollars. No, really,
- 43:03Speaker 1: That's what I learned from listening to pest story.
- 43:06Speaker 2: Sometimes you're just happy in a place Max is happy
- 43:08Speaker 2: and ten million dollars a year. Is not a badseller.
- 43:10Speaker 1: No, it is not super underrated player blue guy.
- 43:16Speaker 2: Look at their numbers when he plays.
- 43:17Speaker 1: Quality played, appearance guy.
- 43:19Speaker 2: It's a great interview.
- 43:20Speaker 1: You can call us bias because he's one of our
- 43:22Speaker 1: favorite guests. But talk to any Dodger and that's one
- 43:26Speaker 1: of the first players that comes up when they say,
- 43:29Speaker 1: tell me about the core and what's super important here.
- 43:32Speaker 1: We know Otani's good stuff like that, but.
- 43:34Speaker 2: He changes the changes the lineup when he's in the game.
- 43:38Speaker 1: Some teams have done that in the past, Like I
- 43:40Speaker 1: know that was a thing with Carlos Santana in the
- 43:42Speaker 1: middle of his career, right Kratz knows the Phillies signed him.
- 43:45Speaker 1: There were some issues there, but the Phillies initially were like, hey,
- 43:47Speaker 1: we need better quality abs. Let's find the guy who
- 43:50Speaker 1: puts together great abs. Here's Carlos Santana.
- 43:54Speaker 3: It permeates. It's like osmosis. Everybody everybody follows along.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Bet mjam players. Get yourself a no sweat token and
- 44:02Speaker 1: apply to any bet on Pro Football to use it
- 44:04Speaker 1: at a bet on a Pro Football event to your betslip,
- 44:06Speaker 1: activate the token received bonus bets. It's the bet that
- 44:09Speaker 1: was made with the token loses gambling problem or concern
- 44:12Speaker 1: called one eight hundred gambling.
- 44:14Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 44:15Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 44:18Speaker 2: That's what he said.
- 44:19Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 44:23Speaker 4: I think it's really interesting because, you know, the analytics
- 44:26Speaker 4: have become such a heavy, heavy part of coaching nowadays,
- 44:31Speaker 4: and I had a hard time watching this team now.
- 44:36Speaker 4: It may be because the astros have kind of have
- 44:39Speaker 4: have run through all of these guys that were selectively aggressive.
- 44:46Speaker 4: They were very good at zone command. They swung in
- 44:48Speaker 4: the zone and when they did they made great contact.
- 44:51Speaker 4: When it was outside the zone, they didn't chase. So
- 44:54Speaker 4: we're starting to see maybe that generation of hitters kind
- 44:57Speaker 4: of filter through the astros and move on the brain men's,
- 45:00Speaker 4: you know, the tuckers, some of these guys that were
- 45:03Speaker 4: very good at in the zone type thing. And sometimes
- 45:07Speaker 4: it becomes an institutional thing where you're not getting the
- 45:10Speaker 4: approach taught at a lower level and developing these guys
- 45:13Speaker 4: to get to the big leaes, because the idea is
- 45:16Speaker 4: once you get to the big leaes, you're going to
- 45:17Speaker 4: see more pitches inside the zone. Granted, guys are nastier,
- 45:21Speaker 4: spin rates are off the charts and the balls moving
- 45:23Speaker 4: all over the place, but they have a tendency to
- 45:26Speaker 4: be closer to the zone. And that's where I kind
- 45:29Speaker 4: of found some of my frustration maybe in the last
- 45:31Speaker 4: couple of years watching Astros baseball is, especially in twenty
- 45:34Speaker 4: twenty five. Granted, there was a lot of roster turnover,
- 45:37Speaker 4: so Alex Cintron and Snicker had to work with a
- 45:40Speaker 4: lot of different guys. But when you see a whiff
- 45:43Speaker 4: rate escalate as quickly as it did, a contact rate
- 45:47Speaker 4: drop as precipitously as it did, they were still making
- 45:51Speaker 4: hard contact, but they weren't making hard contact and appropriate situations.
- 45:56Speaker 4: For me personally, I'm a risk guy. I am a
- 45:59Speaker 4: get runner home from third base less than two outs guy.
- 46:03Speaker 4: Those are paramount numbers for me for a team to
- 46:06Speaker 4: be successful, because the Astros will always do a good
- 46:09Speaker 4: job of getting on base.
- 46:12Speaker 1: That's good stuff. That's your former teammate Jet Blum, who
- 46:15Speaker 1: calls Astros games for years and was a guest on
- 46:18Speaker 1: Crush City Territory or Astros show your thought.
- 46:21Speaker 2: I like, I mean, listen, analytics, are you very useful?
- 46:24Speaker 2: I want to make that abundantly clear. But there's also
- 46:27Speaker 2: something to be said for guys that can do both.
- 46:29Speaker 2: You can hit for power and you can drive a
- 46:31Speaker 2: guy in from third base with less than two outs.
- 46:34Speaker 1: You don't really use that stat to evaluate players.
- 46:36Speaker 2: I know, but that the goal of a game is
- 46:39Speaker 2: to score more runs than the other team. So if
- 46:42Speaker 2: you have the opportunity to drive a runner in a
- 46:45Speaker 2: run batted in, that means you're helping your team score runs. Right.
- 46:49Speaker 2: And if you don't strike out with a runner on
- 46:51Speaker 2: third and less than two outs and you can hit
- 46:52Speaker 2: that sack fly or you can infields back and you
- 46:55Speaker 2: hit the ground ball a second and get that runner in,
- 46:58Speaker 2: that's a big deal. Give me those guys. Give me
- 47:00Speaker 2: the guys that can get a guy over from second
- 47:02Speaker 2: with less than two outs can do some different things
- 47:05Speaker 2: because also it puts pressure on the defense because of
- 47:07Speaker 2: the strikeout. It's like once you doay, okay, hey struck out,
- 47:10Speaker 2: Now onto the next right like again. But I get analytics,
- 47:13Speaker 2: and there are times where yes, go for the homers,
- 47:15Speaker 2: but there are also times where you might have to
- 47:17Speaker 2: do some right. What's that size? Yeah, I mean, listen,
- 47:23Speaker 2: I understand analytics, and I agree with it.
- 47:27Speaker 3: Analytics are a great way to build a team baseball
- 47:31Speaker 3: and making contacts. You're just talking about hitting, making contact,
- 47:35Speaker 3: being able to change your swing to be able to
- 47:37Speaker 3: hit the inside of the ball and move a runner,
- 47:41Speaker 3: pull hook something if you're a lefty, to try to
- 47:43Speaker 3: get the runner over. Like those are things that win
- 47:47Speaker 3: you the ball games. So if you build your team
- 47:49Speaker 3: based on analytics, I agree with that, but you can't
- 47:53Speaker 3: run it and play it every single day. Going here
- 47:57Speaker 3: comes a two run digger. I know we're down by one,
- 48:00Speaker 3: and if I get this runner over to third, it's great,
- 48:02Speaker 3: But it's even better if I get the runner in.
- 48:05Speaker 3: Like I saw people that were complaining about the IKF
- 48:08Speaker 3: bunt with Vladdie on second, nobody out and moving him
- 48:13Speaker 3: to third with the World Series on the line, Like
- 48:16Speaker 3: I saw people complaining about you have three outs and
- 48:19Speaker 3: you give one away. Took a really good play to
- 48:22Speaker 3: make the play. Like, there's things that you need to
- 48:24Speaker 3: do to win games. Like hey, Jay said, scoring runs
- 48:27Speaker 3: wins you the game if you score more than the
- 48:29Speaker 3: other team ops differential.
- 48:33Speaker 2: Let me ask you this, those crowds are what you
- 48:35Speaker 2: just said. You just said you want to build your
- 48:37Speaker 2: team with the analytics, but then you also have to
- 48:39Speaker 2: have this other guy. How can you do both? Then,
- 48:41Speaker 2: because if you if you just build your team off analytics,
- 48:44Speaker 2: then you also that doesn't, as Scott said, it include
- 48:47Speaker 2: certain certain things that aren't necessarily statistically you know, I
- 48:53Speaker 2: want so how do you how do you do both?
- 48:56Speaker 3: We're talking we're talking about a lineup, right or just
- 48:58Speaker 3: because that's what Blummer was talking about. I want the
- 49:00Speaker 3: guys that hit the ball as possibly hard as they
- 49:03Speaker 3: can hit it, and then I'm gonna have coaches who say,
- 49:06Speaker 3: you know what, you hit this ball so freaking hard,
- 49:09Speaker 3: we need you to be able to make this adjustment
- 49:11Speaker 3: in your six hundred had bats, maybe in one hundred
- 49:14Speaker 3: of them, maybe in fifty of them, to help us
- 49:17Speaker 3: win the game. We're not just swinging for the downs. Okay,
- 49:22Speaker 3: Analytically you can find guys who steal bases. Doesn't mean
- 49:26Speaker 3: analytics like stolen bases. It just means you gotta find
- 49:29Speaker 3: guys that are efficient in it, proficient in it.
- 49:34Speaker 2: I'm trying to think what else you know? Because people
- 49:36Speaker 2: say analytics all they care about is the three true outcomes.
- 49:40Speaker 2: You are correct, So build your team with guys that
- 49:45Speaker 2: hit the ball really freaking hard and then say, how
- 49:49Speaker 2: can we make an adjustment when this type of pitcher
- 49:52Speaker 2: is pitching against us to be able to get the
- 49:54Speaker 2: job done. You can't just be a lineup that's like,
- 49:57Speaker 2: oh boy, you're facing a camsh Littler, You're facing the tray,
- 50:01Speaker 2: you savage. You have no chance to wear him down
- 50:04Speaker 2: because of your swings. You have to build. And that's
- 50:07Speaker 2: where I think the coaches come in. I think that's
- 50:08Speaker 2: where the coach is understanding that the reason this guy
- 50:12Speaker 2: hits the ball hard is because he is full sell
- 50:15Speaker 2: in everything that in every one of his swings. How
- 50:18Speaker 2: can you teach him to stay in the zone longer?
- 50:21Speaker 2: How can you teach him to be okay with hitting
- 50:24Speaker 2: thirty five homers instead of forty? That's that's the That's
- 50:27Speaker 2: going to be the teams that make that adjustment that
- 50:30Speaker 2: can take your team to can't that's what you just said,
- 50:34Speaker 2: You can't because you just talked about the Yankees. Congratulations.
- 50:38Speaker 2: Oh they do in these situations, they stink out of them.
- 50:40Speaker 2: Usually that you have to be able to change. They're
- 50:45Speaker 2: not going half layers aren't going to because the Yankee
- 50:47Speaker 2: the Yankees, for example, they want the hard guys to
- 50:50Speaker 2: hit the ball hard. We don't want them to change.
- 50:52Speaker 2: We want homers. We want homers swing hard, Anthony Volpi.
- 50:55Speaker 2: If Anthony Volpi didn't try to hit twenty five to
- 50:57Speaker 2: thirty homers a year, cut down in a swing, his
- 51:00Speaker 2: batting average to go up. His OBP would probably go up,
- 51:02Speaker 2: his power would go down, and he could steal more bases.
- 51:05Speaker 2: But what is he going to get paid for hitting homers?
- 51:09Speaker 2: So that's what they all try to do. That that's
- 51:11Speaker 2: the bottom line. So yes, what Blummer's saying I agree with.
- 51:14Speaker 2: But at the end of the day, players in their
- 51:16Speaker 2: agents say, man, you got to hit the ball out
- 51:18Speaker 2: of the park and you got to drive the ball
- 51:20Speaker 2: because that's how you're going to get paid.
- 51:22Speaker 3: I mean, what did Max Muntzy say he'd in the
- 51:25Speaker 3: World Series? He didn't care that he went over seven
- 51:27Speaker 3: in that one game. There is a way, in my opinion,
- 51:31Speaker 3: to take the analytics to create the team that is
- 51:35Speaker 3: going to be the best team you can possibly put
- 51:38Speaker 3: out there based on analytics. Then when it comes to
- 51:42Speaker 3: the games, we got to have different conversations. Why did
- 51:45Speaker 3: we pick you up? It was because you hit the
- 51:47Speaker 3: ball really hard, and the Yankees because we were talking
- 51:50Speaker 3: about the Yankees, they picked up a lot of guys
- 51:52Speaker 3: they tried to get. At one point they hit three
- 51:54Speaker 3: of the hardest hitting players in the big leagues and
- 51:58Speaker 3: they had two dudes in the minor leagues were the hardest,
- 52:01Speaker 3: you know, hardest ex of velocity.
- 52:04Speaker 2: If but you can't you just said you but you
- 52:06Speaker 2: build your You just said you build your team off that.
- 52:09Speaker 2: Those guys that usually have the highest ex of velocity
- 52:11Speaker 2: strike out a lot. John Carlos, Stanton, Aaron Joe swings
- 52:16Speaker 2: and misses more than anybody. You can't coach him, though,
- 52:18Speaker 2: unless you start at a younger age in the minor
- 52:20Speaker 2: leagues and develop that, which they don't do. Because how
- 52:23Speaker 2: do they get to the big leagues by hitting the
- 52:25Speaker 2: ball hard? Of the Yankees organization and hitting homers. Hey,
- 52:28Speaker 2: that's how they get to the big leagues? Right or wrong?
- 52:31Speaker 1: This sounds like Dave Popkins at the Blue Jays this
- 52:33Speaker 1: year and how he helped players.
- 52:37Speaker 2: But they have different types of players. Though, they have
- 52:39Speaker 2: different types of players. They don't have all home run guys.
- 52:43Speaker 1: Right, But Hopkins would go to Bolpy right in theory
- 52:47Speaker 1: calling out gangs hitting coach. I know nobody development wise
- 52:49Speaker 1: and be like, hey, dude, like this might be more
- 52:52Speaker 1: of the player that you are. Let's try to go
- 52:54Speaker 1: down this path Yankee fans, you could judge people.
- 52:56Speaker 2: But then Bolby's agent in his ears going don't listen
- 52:59Speaker 2: to him? Do you need to keep hitting homers and
- 53:01Speaker 2: you're gonna keep getting paid?
- 53:03Speaker 1: I'm just lying, but I'm not gonna say it.
- 53:06Speaker 2: What I mean, I don't even know who his agent they.
- 53:12Speaker 2: He actually called Rob Manford and hey Rob, thank you soon.
- 53:16Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. But you know what I'm
- 53:19Speaker 2: saying though, is like, yeah, we can all use Popkins.
- 53:23Speaker 2: But honestly, out of their guys, I k bose of
- 53:26Speaker 2: contact guy Glad, He's always been a contact guy. Kirk's
- 53:28Speaker 2: a contact guy, right, Springer has always been pretty decent
- 53:31Speaker 2: at making contact. Marshaw makes contact. Marge is probably the
- 53:34Speaker 2: only guy that really swings, and he swings out of
- 53:36Speaker 2: his ass, but he still makes pretty good contact. They
- 53:40Speaker 2: don't have Aaron Judge, John Carlos, Stanton Volpi. These guys,
- 53:43Speaker 2: are you know, Austin Wells are.
- 53:44Speaker 1: Just ro bust.
- 53:45Speaker 2: Yes, they don't have those guys. If you don't, if
- 53:48Speaker 2: you build your team off analytics, you get one or
- 53:49Speaker 2: the other, and the one analytics wants and the other
- 53:52Speaker 2: one baseball people want, meaning like old schooler more old
- 53:56Speaker 2: school people. It's fine. Both work. The Dodgers have a
- 53:59Speaker 2: great combo.
- 54:00Speaker 1: Both crack.
- 54:08Speaker 2: All right, before we go, this is Pete mccheska. He's
- 54:10Speaker 2: a Fox guy. He did the World Series for the
- 54:13Speaker 2: last twenty two years. He received the Tony Kubiak Tony
- 54:16Speaker 2: Kubeck Polish Hall of Fame National Sports Polish Hall of
- 54:20Speaker 2: Fame Award for Media Excellence. They gave this to him
- 54:23Speaker 2: during the World Series. So I want to give him
- 54:24Speaker 2: some love. Welcome to the Hall of Fame, Pete. We
- 54:27Speaker 2: love you, I love you. Welcome to the Polish Hall
- 54:29Speaker 2: of Fame. Budd. It's something he'd been talking about for
- 54:31Speaker 2: a while. We got him in. Now he's gonna go
- 54:33Speaker 2: give a speech. He retired from baseball, he's still doing football.
- 54:37Speaker 2: One of the great guys in baseball, in and in
- 54:40Speaker 2: media for baseball, always promoting baseball in the game. Just congratulations, Pete.
- 54:44Speaker 2: I want to make sure that he got some love
- 54:46Speaker 2: for that.
- 54:47Speaker 1: Yeah, awesome baseball career and his football career will continue
- 54:51Speaker 1: producing wise.
- 54:52Speaker 2: That go, Pete. He's got the Polish. Oh man, he's
- 54:54Speaker 2: got the most new Jersey accident. Go Pete. Oh, It's unbelievable.
- 54:58Speaker 2: It's just awesome. I love me one of the best.
- 55:02Speaker 1: I have a quote from Joe Musgrove, Remember Joe Musgrove
- 55:05Speaker 1: coming back, if healthy, good picture.
- 55:09Speaker 2: Good picture.
- 55:09Speaker 1: I'm saying, if when healthy?
- 55:12Speaker 2: Why are you laughing because you just said if healthy?
- 55:14Speaker 1: Like I'm saying like. I didn't mean it that way.
- 55:16Speaker 2: I know, but it was just the way it came.
- 55:18Speaker 1: Out the way it meant it is. When Joe's healthy,
- 55:21Speaker 1: he's pretty good. That's a nice guy to have in
- 55:23Speaker 1: the rotation. He wasn't there this year. Quote on the
- 55:27Speaker 1: Stamina High quote. A little surprised at first, didn't even
- 55:30Speaker 1: know he was even considering taking a role like that.
- 55:33Speaker 1: But knowing he's in that spot, I couldn't be more excited.
- 55:36Speaker 1: Level of respect he has from everyone in that clubhouse,
- 55:39Speaker 1: I'm extremely excited. That's Marty Caswell reporting on that quote
- 55:44Speaker 1: from mister Musgrove, so they didn't know he was going
- 55:48Speaker 1: for it. I wonder how it all went down, and you.
- 55:52Speaker 2: Probably didn't have to interview.
- 55:53Speaker 1: There will be a great story about how it happened
- 55:55Speaker 1: because it had to be a conversation where either he said, hey,
- 55:59Speaker 1: I'm interested in this or Prowlers today, I think you.
- 56:01Speaker 2: Are you interested? And so obviously it was yes, h
- 56:07Speaker 2: that's all you need to know. That quote, it's all
- 56:09Speaker 2: you need to know.
- 56:12Speaker 1: I love the surprise higher. So many people were just
- 56:16Speaker 1: auto pooh holes. And this goes to show a nine
- 56:19Speaker 1: and a half hour meeting, which was what it was
- 56:23Speaker 1: reported for pooh holes and is in person doesn't mean shit,
- 56:26Speaker 1: And probably it's.
- 56:27Speaker 2: A little too long nine and a half hours. I
- 56:30Speaker 2: can't sit with anybody for nine and a half hours.
- 56:32Speaker 2: That's a If I'm on a plane overseas, man, there's
- 56:34Speaker 2: at least a three hour nap, right, you get a
- 56:38Speaker 2: break from whoever sitting next to me.
- 56:40Speaker 1: For me, that would be at least two, if not
- 56:42Speaker 1: three meals. There's a lot going on in the nine
- 56:45Speaker 1: and a half hours.
- 56:46Speaker 2: Hours, right a bathroom. There's a lot of sharing a
- 56:48Speaker 2: bathroom in the minor leagues in that nine and a
- 56:50Speaker 2: half hours. Nobody wants to see me eat a meal.
- 56:53Speaker 3: Either I'm getting fired, I'm getting there, I'm halfway through
- 56:55Speaker 3: the and I'm getting I'm eating and they're watching me
- 56:58Speaker 3: they're like, sorry, this interviews over.
- 57:03Speaker 1: Yeah, so you skipped the meal, right, I would too
- 57:06Speaker 1: do annoying. I did an interview once with a team
- 57:12Speaker 1: for a broadcast role, and the guy took me out
- 57:14Speaker 1: to lunch and it was one of those oh like,
- 57:16Speaker 1: it's one of their places, so he ordered everything, and
- 57:18Speaker 1: I'm like, I got bad news for you, Bud, this
- 57:20Speaker 1: is not gonna go well. I have a lot of allergies.
- 57:23Speaker 1: You cannot order for me. I did not get the job,
- 57:28Speaker 1: all right, Yeah I am bougie doctor's territory coming up next.
- 57:32Speaker 1: Hope you enjoyed the show today because we have another
- 57:34Speaker 1: one tomorrow Friday. Kevin Pollar is back on the show
- 57:38Speaker 1: with us for Friday's episode.
