- 0:00Speaker 1: We'll read back your text at eleven thirty. Good morning, Chris,
- 0:02Speaker 1: what's hanning g ball on this glorious glorious You look
- 0:07Speaker 1: outside and I'm kidding on this draft day. Look at that.
- 0:11Speaker 1: The draft used to be in May and I can
- 0:12Speaker 1: remember going shorts to the facility. You will not be
- 0:16Speaker 1: doing that this afternoon. I'd be doing that this afternoon evening.
- 0:19Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean you could, Greg. And just like
- 0:21Speaker 1: I was in my car, Chris, it's true. I had
- 0:23Speaker 1: the heat on that kidding me, that's true. It's about
- 0:26Speaker 1: fifty degrees. I can only see the fairies crossing Elliot Base.
- 0:29Speaker 1: It ain't that bad. We've had bad days. I'm sure
- 0:31Speaker 1: we can go back in history and look at April
- 0:33Speaker 1: twenty third in the weather, and if it's raining, it
- 0:35Speaker 1: wouldn't be a shocker. That is spoken as a Seattle native.
- 0:38Speaker 1: But Christopher kidd is and I love it. Okay, I'm
- 0:41Speaker 1: looking at it. I'm looking at the weather report. All
- 0:43Speaker 1: I see is sixty as the high for the next
- 0:45Speaker 1: week and a half. Sign me up because I know, yeah,
- 0:49Speaker 1: it's sweating, I guess sweating, but I love it. I
- 0:52Speaker 1: love it.

- 1:19Speaker 2: next hour than Ian forness. I'll have words. You have
- 1:22Speaker 2: a lot of words actually, including keywords. From twelve until

- 1:29Speaker 2: cast of thousands will be out at the Virginia Mason
- 1:31Speaker 2: Netlics Center.
- 1:32Speaker 1: So will Ian. I chose not to do the show
- 1:34Speaker 1: there for otherwise I'd be there for like fourteen hours.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Today I'm doing all that. I'm debating Chris.
- 1:40Speaker 2: We we talked about this whether I should even show
- 1:42Speaker 2: up for the start of the draft, because.
- 1:44Speaker 1: I just don't want you to be like, oh, they
- 1:46Speaker 1: did take a player. Cool. Well, I will show.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Up, obviously, it's my job, the news tribute. But I
- 1:52Speaker 2: mean if I show up at five o'clock for the
- 1:54Speaker 2: start of the draft. I'm going to wait till eight
- 1:57Speaker 2: thirty before the Seahawks. You could show up at eight
- 2:00Speaker 2: you could because again, the Seahawks have never traded up
- 2:03Speaker 2: in the first round.
- 2:04Speaker 1: What's the what's holding you back, Mike Snyder or John
- 2:07Speaker 1: Snyder's just what's holding you back from pulling up at
- 2:08Speaker 1: eight pm the night.
- 2:10Speaker 2: That's a good point, nonn for real, like with just
- 2:13Speaker 2: the fear of the fear of what though, because you'd
- 2:15Speaker 2: still have thirty minutes true, So it's not like you
- 2:18Speaker 2: show about eight thirty. Oh, the fear if I if
- 2:20Speaker 2: I don't show up after, if I don't show up
- 2:22Speaker 2: for the start of the draft, that John Schnyder trades
- 2:25Speaker 2: up with the Raiders gives them their first round pick
- 2:29Speaker 2: for the next four years or something.
- 2:30Speaker 1: I mean, that's a good fear to have. I don't
- 2:32Speaker 1: know how lightly. What's the percentage're winging here? Almost? No,
- 2:35Speaker 1: it probably is zero. I mean you could always say
- 2:37Speaker 1: there's a few.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Malon would say there's a chance, a chance more than zero,
- 2:41Speaker 2: not that there's no.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Think Greg, Yeah, just pull up at eight tonight. Man,
- 2:44Speaker 1: you know, have your blanket in one hand, laptop in
- 2:47Speaker 1: the other, how you guys doing You've been there all day?
- 2:49Speaker 1: That sucks. I just got here. John Schneider has traded
- 2:52Speaker 1: his first round pick fourteen times in sixteen drafts of
- 2:55Speaker 1: Seahawks general manager. Never to trade up in the first round.
- 2:58Speaker 1: He's traded down ten times, and.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Those other four times he traded involving a player Jamal Adams,
- 3:04Speaker 2: Russell Wilson, Percy Harvin. And why am I forgetting I've
- 3:11Speaker 2: recited this like seven times.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Because you've been reciting as so much your brains stag
- 3:15Speaker 1: there it is, thank.
- 3:16Speaker 2: You with Max Singer, who John Schnyder has since said
- 3:18Speaker 2: he made a mistake doing that.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Look at that. Yeah he's honest. Yeah, I screwed up Seattle.
- 3:24Speaker 1: I didn't get a second super Bowl though. Are you
- 3:25Speaker 1: like Manetta?
- 3:27Speaker 2: I don't know that you can fud Remember this time
- 3:28Speaker 2: last year, some people whented John Snyder fired.
- 3:31Speaker 1: The question was out there. Yes, yeah, it was. Even
- 3:33Speaker 1: Mike and Iowa had discussed Dugar had discussions about man
- 3:37Speaker 1: if this had if this doesn't work, how much long
- 3:40Speaker 1: not to mention. They just extended him too. That was
- 3:42Speaker 1: the crazy part. They extended him, were like, huh, you
- 3:45Speaker 1: gotta admit Jody Allen.
- 3:47Speaker 2: And Burke Cold choices. In the last few years, the
- 3:49Speaker 2: direction of franchise.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Have been spot on. They've noted it. When they decided
- 3:53Speaker 1: to fire Pete Carroll noted that was choosing John Schneider's way.
- 3:58Speaker 1: In January twenty twenty four, John Schneider wanted to bring
- 4:01Speaker 1: a whole new regime and whole new coaching staff, whole
- 4:03Speaker 1: new coordinators, and Pete Carroll said, no, no, I want
- 4:05Speaker 1: to keep my courty. He went staying well little his guys.
- 4:08Speaker 2: He wanted to keep his coordinators and he wanted to
- 4:10Speaker 2: run it back, and Jody Allen said, nope, we're changing
- 4:14Speaker 2: and we're going to go for the first time with
- 4:15Speaker 2: John Schneider as our chief football decider top of the
- 4:19Speaker 2: food chain.
- 4:20Speaker 1: It had always been Pete Carroll. Pete Carroll hired John Schneider,
- 4:24Speaker 1: and for fifteen years it was John Schneider actually under
- 4:28Speaker 1: Pete Carroll in authority for football, and Jody Allen said, nope,
- 4:34Speaker 1: John Schneider's our guy. And ever since then what's happened.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Hired Mike McDonald changed the culture from the studs, I
- 4:44Speaker 1: mean changed everything of how they do things, how they eat,
- 4:47Speaker 1: how they travel, how they practice, the paint on the walls,
- 4:50Speaker 1: the pictures, the main auditoriums, got Super Bowl trophies flanking
- 4:54Speaker 1: the podium, changed everything except the actual building itself. And
- 4:59Speaker 1: then they go to the Super Bowl. They go ten
- 5:02Speaker 1: and seven the first year. Then they trade their quarterback
- 5:05Speaker 1: and their star wide receiver and they go to the
- 5:07Speaker 1: Super Bowl and win it for a second time in
- 5:09Speaker 1: franchise history. That's where that has worked. And John Schneider
- 5:14Speaker 1: is the first general manager in NFL history to take
- 5:16Speaker 1: two different coaching staff, two different regimes, two different rosters,
- 5:20Speaker 1: and win two Super Bowls in two different eras well deserved,
- 5:24Speaker 1: So you can say that it worked. So that's a
- 5:26Speaker 1: long way saying I guess the Pacific Northwest, Oh, John Schneider. Okay,
- 5:30Speaker 1: if you want to trade back, Okay, whoever you picked tonight, okay.
- 5:35Speaker 1: And Mike McDonald said that this week.
- 5:37Speaker 2: He said, you know what, I'm just kind of there
- 5:41Speaker 2: and I don't have a ton of input.
- 5:42Speaker 1: He said he actually has less input and says less
- 5:44Speaker 1: now during the draft process than he did when he
- 5:46Speaker 1: first got here because he has learned and knows that
- 5:49Speaker 1: these guys know what the hell are doing. Sixteen years
- 5:52Speaker 1: on the job and two Super Bowl titles and some
- 5:55Speaker 1: really good drafts. Now there were some down We've talked
- 5:57Speaker 1: about the downtimes post legion of boom and the and
- 6:00Speaker 1: when they reach for needs and the maligue McDonald's and LJ. Colliers.
- 6:04Speaker 2: But look at the last couple drafts and the first drafts,
- 6:07Speaker 2: and Mike McDonald has said, I'll stay out of your way,
- 6:11Speaker 2: John Schneider and your personnel staff, you know what the
- 6:13Speaker 2: hell you're doing.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Yeah, look what he got, Mike McDonald, Nick even Woorry,
- 6:19Speaker 1: Tory Horton, stay healthy, buddy. That's that's like, Oh, the
- 6:23Speaker 1: investment's working. I trusted. So you know what, I will
- 6:26Speaker 1: sit back and have a cigar and whatever I want
- 6:28Speaker 1: to do with my with my son Jack and enjoy
- 6:30Speaker 1: the draft and my wife. I'll do that. No, I
- 6:34Speaker 1: know he'll be in the war room. But you know
- 6:35Speaker 1: what I'm saying, like he's, hey, John, you've given me
- 6:39Speaker 1: the pieces for my puzzle. I just put the puzzle together.
- 6:42Speaker 1: I'm good you got it.
- 6:43Speaker 2: And the synergy between those pieces and John Schneider and
- 6:46Speaker 2: his personnel staff knowing what those pieces with the coaching
- 6:49Speaker 2: staff needs.
- 6:50Speaker 1: That's much better now.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Than it was when Schnyder, when McDonald first got here,
- 6:55Speaker 2: because they didn't know, they didn't know what a Mike
- 6:57Speaker 2: McDonald player was, They didn't know the culture that he
- 7:00Speaker 2: was setting, the type of personalities that they want to
- 7:03Speaker 2: I mentioned this during the roundtable. The biggest challenge the
- 7:05Speaker 2: Seahawks have this weekend, and it's huge, is to estimate
- 7:10Speaker 2: and try to pretty much guestimate how the players they're
- 7:14Speaker 2: drafting will fit in the culture, because that, to the
- 7:17Speaker 2: Seahawks is the key to them getting back to and
- 7:19Speaker 2: winning the Super Bowl again. They will tell you it
- 7:22Speaker 2: wasn't the XS and o's, it wasn't the number one
- 7:24Speaker 2: rank defense, It wasn't Sam Darnold in the clutch, it
- 7:27Speaker 2: wasn't Kenneth Walker running wild in the playoffs. It was
- 7:30Speaker 2: their culture, their brotherhood, their togetherness that won the Super
- 7:34Speaker 2: Bowl last year. To a man, they were talking about
- 7:36Speaker 2: that in April. I told you that when they had
- 7:38Speaker 2: one hundred percent participation in offseason OTAs, which is unheard
- 7:41Speaker 2: of in the NFL. One hundred percent participation, Ernest Jones
- 7:46Speaker 2: talking about Leonard Williams talked about way back then, and
- 7:50Speaker 2: that's how Sam Donald in fact got ingrained with the
- 7:53Speaker 2: locker room of how involved he was in OTAs and
- 7:56Speaker 2: leading and all of that stuff in April, and may, wow,
- 8:00Speaker 2: this cat's really involved. He's in it, and that coalescing
- 8:05Speaker 2: all of that during the spring is what the Seahawks
- 8:07Speaker 2: believe was the reason that they won the Super Bowl.
- 8:09Speaker 2: How are they going to duplicate and replicate that. I
- 8:12Speaker 2: don't think it's ever going to be possible to be
- 8:15Speaker 2: as tight as they were last year.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Chris.
- 8:18Speaker 2: When I walked into the locker room, the cigar filled,
- 8:21Speaker 2: patron swilling locker room in Santa Clara on February eighth,
- 8:26Speaker 2: minutes after it was a long time. It's about an
- 8:28Speaker 2: hour after the Super Bowl ended. We were waiting out
- 8:30Speaker 2: there in the tunnel for a while.
- 8:32Speaker 1: When I walked in there, there were dudes actually depressed
- 8:37Speaker 1: and talking about amid all the celebration, talking about man.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Ernest Jones looked at me and said, man, you know
- 8:42Speaker 1: what sucks. I can't be with my boys on Monday.
- 8:45Speaker 2: We're not gonna have meetings, We're not gonna have practice,
- 8:47Speaker 2: we're not gonna go on road trail.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I got let's spend like six months not doing any
- 8:51Speaker 1: of that stuff. I miss these guys. I'm really gonna
- 8:53Speaker 1: miss them. I want to keep going. I don't want
- 8:56Speaker 1: this season to end. This was in February, after they
- 8:58Speaker 1: started in April. That was like ten months of grinding,
- 9:03Speaker 1: and they wanted more of it. And I was shocked.
- 9:06Speaker 2: I've covered Super Bowl teams winners, done this for twenty
- 9:09Speaker 2: five years, been in Super Bowl winning locker rooms, and
- 9:11Speaker 2: I had never heard that. And I heard it from
- 9:14Speaker 2: Leonard Williams. I heard it from Ernest Jones, I heard
- 9:16Speaker 2: it from.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Pretty much everybody, from starters down to Jake Bobo. All
- 9:22Speaker 1: these dudes are just like, damn, this sucks, this is over.
- 9:25Speaker 1: How are they going to replicate that? How can you
- 9:27Speaker 1: project nineteen twenty twenty one year old, twenty five year
- 9:31Speaker 1: old kids, young men, and how they are going to
- 9:35Speaker 1: fit into that culture Mike McDonald has brought.
- 9:38Speaker 2: That's tough, and that fit is the key to if
- 9:42Speaker 2: the Seahawks get backgrounds, so tonight when they draft dudes,
- 9:45Speaker 2: or more likely Friday Saturday, think about, oh, they must
- 9:50Speaker 2: have done some deep dives on the backgrounds of these
- 9:52Speaker 2: guys to see how they will fit culture wise, personality wise,
- 9:57Speaker 2: Are they competent? Are they competitors. Schneider has talked about.
- 10:01Speaker 1: We don't need dudes who are in awe of.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Devin Witherspoon and DeMarcus Lawrence. We don't need we need
- 10:08Speaker 2: guys that are dogs, that are compete They need more
- 10:11Speaker 2: Devin Witherspoons, frankly, that are brash and think I'm coming
- 10:14Speaker 2: in here to take your job. That's hard to find
- 10:18Speaker 2: guys who have been playing Madden with these Seahawks stars
- 10:20Speaker 2: and Leonard Williams, guys that have been watching the Super
- 10:23Speaker 2: Bowl in their college apartments.
- 10:25Speaker 1: To not have guys that are.
- 10:27Speaker 2: In awe of those dudes when they come and join
- 10:29Speaker 2: the team. Schnyder said that is part of the reason
- 10:32Speaker 2: that they fell off so drastically after the post legion
- 10:35Speaker 2: of Boom, and they've spent eleven years trying to get
- 10:37Speaker 2: back to the Super Bowl.
- 10:38Speaker 1: As they were drafting dudes who came in and just
- 10:40Speaker 1: were in awe and wouldn't compete, and the practices weren't
- 10:43Speaker 1: as competitive. All of these intangibles that you can't measure
- 10:47Speaker 1: through forty yard dash times in NFL films, studies and
- 10:52Speaker 1: all these draftnicks and draft experts, they can't nail that
- 10:56Speaker 1: and that's what makes the Seahawks draft boards so unique.
- 10:59Speaker 1: They are full of those intangibles.
- 11:01Speaker 2: They rank guys by those characteristics, and you can't find
- 11:05Speaker 2: that out unless you go to the janitor of the
- 11:07Speaker 2: dorm room that the guys were in college as freshmen,
- 11:10Speaker 2: when you go to their high school coach and their
- 11:11Speaker 2: guidance counselors and their grad advisors at college and all
- 11:15Speaker 2: that legwork of off the field Seahawks scouts do that
- 11:19Speaker 2: to try to find the culture fit. It's such a
- 11:23Speaker 2: hard it's an intangible, nebulous thing to get your hands
- 11:26Speaker 2: wrapped around, and it's really hard at an analytical era
- 11:30Speaker 2: of film study and forty yard dash times to understand
- 11:33Speaker 2: the human element that the Seahawks value as number one
- 11:36Speaker 2: to the guys they pick. And that's often why John
- 11:40Speaker 2: Schneider zags will. Everyone thinks he's gonna zig that he
- 11:43Speaker 2: has insight on the character and the makeup of these
- 11:47Speaker 2: guys and how they're gonna fit, projecting how they're gonna
- 11:50Speaker 2: fit in the locker room, and no analyst, no but
- 11:52Speaker 2: no mock drafter can can nail that. Only the Seahawks
- 11:56Speaker 2: the proprietary information of that. It's part of the reason
- 11:58Speaker 2: why this Seahawks are not thrilled about beyond hard knocks
- 12:02Speaker 2: this summer. They don't want cameras showing that culture. That's
- 12:07Speaker 2: proprietory stuff. They don't want anybody else knowing that. So anyway, Chris,
- 12:10Speaker 2: that's my long soapbox explanation of why the Seahawks drafts
- 12:13Speaker 2: are so unconventional.
- 12:15Speaker 1: Yeah, you mentioned one thing about the legion of boom
- 12:18Speaker 1: being an awe when you join that roster instead of
- 12:20Speaker 1: looking to compete. Well, that's what the opposite of what
- 12:23Speaker 1: this team is now. They're wired the right way competitively.
- 12:27Speaker 1: They look at as a challenge to better one another
- 12:30Speaker 1: for when the season gets tough, for when they're in
- 12:32Speaker 1: those moments when they need a win. They can count
- 12:34Speaker 1: on one another because they trust one another. They enjoy
- 12:37Speaker 1: competing together. They enjoyed, as you mentioned with Ernest talking
- 12:41Speaker 1: about I'm gonna miss the meetings, the practices, the road trips.
- 12:45Speaker 1: They enjoyed that competitive stuff Mike McDonald instilled in them.
- 12:48Speaker 1: It's okay to compete and lose out and get better
- 12:51Speaker 1: the next week and do things differently. They believe they
- 12:54Speaker 1: had more to accomplish. You can only win one Super Bowl.
- 12:57Speaker 1: But guess what, now, they're at an opportunity to do
- 12:58Speaker 1: it this year, win another Super Bowl. It might have
- 13:02Speaker 1: a few different faces, but the culture are still the same.
- 13:05Speaker 1: It's still Mike McDonald's vision and the guys believing in
- 13:08Speaker 1: one another. So when they have a rough patch, Ernest
- 13:10Speaker 1: is gonna come out and say the defense can do
- 13:12Speaker 1: better because he believes that they left something on the
- 13:16Speaker 1: field that day. They didn't do what they need to
- 13:18Speaker 1: do here, they put the offense in a terrible position.
- 13:22Speaker 1: And that's the type of mindset this team has, from
- 13:25Speaker 1: their leaders all the way down to the staff members
- 13:27Speaker 1: and you name it. That's what the new This is
- 13:30Speaker 1: the new Seahawks. And every player that they're going to draft,
- 13:33Speaker 1: they saw some part at some point they realize this
- 13:38Speaker 1: player will fit what we want to do in four
- 13:41Speaker 1: years with Mike McDonald and company. Right, that's the vision.
- 13:44Speaker 1: So I'm excited to see who those players are. I'm
- 13:47Speaker 1: excited to see how it starts with with OTAs and
- 13:51Speaker 1: going into rookie mini camp and mini camp and training
- 13:54Speaker 1: camp and your first preseason game all the way up
- 13:56Speaker 1: to the end of the season. Because it's going to
- 13:58Speaker 1: be a roller coaster it's gonna be up and downs.
- 14:00Speaker 1: As Mike McDonald said, we haven't played a game, and
- 14:01Speaker 1: you're asking about the running back room. I love our guys.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Doesn't mean he's not going to go out and get
- 14:05Speaker 1: another guy. That's not what he's saying. He just believes
- 14:08Speaker 1: in those guys that they have and they'll address it accordingly,
- 14:10Speaker 1: and he believed that John Schneider will do his part
- 14:13Speaker 1: bringing guys that fit what the series trying to do,
- 14:16Speaker 1: which is, yeah, repeat, that's great. But we have our
- 14:20Speaker 1: own process and what we envision doing, and we're gonna
- 14:23Speaker 1: have the reset, recalibrate, and I know they're excited to
- 14:26Speaker 1: do it. Just as you mentioned, guys are like, damn,
- 14:28Speaker 1: the season's over. Well, guess what, it's April twenty third,
- 14:31Speaker 1: and you're getting right back to it after this draft.
- 14:34Speaker 1: And Devin Witherspoon and Jared Reid and Derek Hall are
- 14:37Speaker 1: at the facility for workouts and weight training sessions and
- 14:42Speaker 1: meetings that Mike McDonald said, now you don't have to
- 14:44Speaker 1: be here for it, and they showed up anyway, which
- 14:47Speaker 1: is the seedlings of this culture reinventing itself. For twenty
- 14:50Speaker 1: twenty six, we'll see so it's something to keep in
- 14:53Speaker 1: mind when you say why did they draft that guy? Why?
- 14:56Speaker 2: That's why because of the culture and the personality and
- 15:00Speaker 2: the deep dives they've done on them off the field
- 15:02Speaker 2: that they think can merge into traffic can be part
- 15:05Speaker 2: of the culture that Mike McDonald has set here in Seattle.
- 15:09Speaker 2: We're going to talk at eleven o'clock when Nick Baumgardner,
- 15:12Speaker 2: he's the NFL draft analyst for the Athletic. We're also
- 15:15Speaker 2: going to talk about Andres Munoz. His cra is eight.
- 15:19Speaker 2: I know he has seven scoreless outings, but the three
- 15:23Speaker 2: he's given up nine runs and three other outings. His
- 15:25Speaker 2: slider doesn't seem to be sliding, or at least it
- 15:28Speaker 2: slides over to the top of the strike zone. Nick
- 15:30Speaker 2: Kurtz blasted him for the tying home run yesterday. We'll
- 15:32Speaker 2: talk about the Mariners in general. Are Cal Rowley, Holy Rodriguez,
- 15:37Speaker 2: and Josh Naylor's bats getting warmer all of a sudden.
- 15:39Speaker 2: There's some evidence of that. I have a statistical breakdown.
- 15:42Speaker 2: It's interesting about July Rodriguez and where he is now
- 15:45Speaker 2: compared to his other April in Mays. Your at tax
- 15:49Speaker 2: four nine, four to five one on the Takoma Dodge
- 15:51Speaker 2: text line, I'm trying to line up a gift for
- 15:55Speaker 2: a prize for a contest. Put in who you think
- 15:58Speaker 2: the Seahawks top pick will be player. It doesn't have
- 16:01Speaker 2: to be first round, second round. You don't have to
- 16:03Speaker 2: nail whether they're going to trade down and how far
- 16:04Speaker 2: they're going to trade down to four nine four five
- 16:07Speaker 2: one to coma Dodg's text line, text in who you
- 16:09Speaker 2: think the Seahawks will be the first pick of the
- 16:12Speaker 2: Seahawks draft, Whether it's tonight or tomorrow.
- 16:16Speaker 1: We'll see who gets it right. Maybe it's just bragging rights.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I'm trying to come up with a gift and haven't
- 16:20Speaker 1: secured it yet, So I'm promising something I don't want
- 16:23Speaker 1: to promise something I can't deliver on. But four nine
- 16:25Speaker 1: four to five one.
- 16:27Speaker 2: Name and the player who you think the Seahawks are
- 16:29Speaker 2: going to draft first in this draft, whether that's tonight
- 16:32Speaker 2: or they trade back tomorrow. Coming up next, we're gonna
- 16:35Speaker 2: talk more about the draft that starts at five PM.
- 16:38Speaker 2: My Seahawks draft and who I think they're going to
- 16:40Speaker 2: go over seven rounds with. They remember they are four
- 16:43Speaker 2: picks in the NFL first round. How I think that's
- 16:46Speaker 2: gonna go. And then at ten forty five we'll talk
- 16:49Speaker 2: more about the Mariners and seeing if their big three
- 16:52Speaker 2: bats are actually heating up. It'll sure be a useful
- 16:54Speaker 2: time for it in their bullpen where that stands. All
- 16:58Speaker 2: that and tons more back your text at eleven thirty,
- 17:01Speaker 2: so you're part of the show at four nine, four
- 17:03Speaker 2: to five one coming up on ninety three point three KJRFM,
- 17:13Speaker 2: Welcome back.
- 17:14Speaker 1: It's NFL Draft Day.
- 17:15Speaker 2: It begins in what's seven hours or so, six and
- 17:18Speaker 2: a half hours from Pittsburgh. All the Seahawks decision makers
- 17:22Speaker 2: are down at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center.
- 17:24Speaker 1: That's why I'll be. That's where Dave Softy Mahl or
- 17:26Speaker 1: Dick Fame, Hugh millinalll be.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Covering from Seahawks headquarters the next three days. The Seahawks
- 17:33Speaker 2: would be on the clock around eight eight thirty. There's
- 17:36Speaker 2: seven there, excuse me, eight minutes between first round picks
- 17:40Speaker 2: this year instead of the ten, they've reduced it by
- 17:41Speaker 2: two minutes, so roughly three hours, you'd say, and then they're.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Probably going to trade back.
- 17:47Speaker 2: That's what it seems like everybody is projecting the chic
- 17:52Speaker 2: trading partner right now is the Arizona Cardinals, who have
- 17:54Speaker 2: the thirty fourth pick, two behind the Seahawks last pick
- 17:57Speaker 2: of the first round. And what would sipitate that in
- 18:00Speaker 2: most people's minds as Ty Simpson, the quarterback from Alabama,
- 18:04Speaker 2: being still on the board at thirty two and the Cardinals,
- 18:08Speaker 2: who had just cut last month Kyler Murray coming up
- 18:11Speaker 2: to thirty two, and the Seahawks could get the draft
- 18:13Speaker 2: value charts that most teams use. There's variations of it.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Most teams draft charts would say a fourth round pick
- 18:19Speaker 2: for trading back two spots in addition to taking the
- 18:23Speaker 2: Cardinals a pick at thirty four. Chris, I, if that happens,
- 18:27Speaker 2: I could see the Seahawks then trading again back from
- 18:30Speaker 2: thirty four, because if they think their guy is going
- 18:32Speaker 2: to be there just two spots back, they probably can
- 18:34Speaker 2: project out whether he's going to be back seven spots back.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Say I think they're going to trade in the Cleveland
- 18:40Speaker 2: thirty nine range and still get a fourth round pick
- 18:43Speaker 2: and move back to seven spots into the second round.
- 18:46Speaker 2: My mock draft for the News Tribune and the Neewstribune
- 18:49Speaker 2: dot Com has them taking Malchai Lawrence, at edge rusher
- 18:52Speaker 2: from the University of Central Florida who also plays three downs.
- 18:57Speaker 2: He's a run stopper, he also drops into coverage. He's
- 18:59Speaker 2: that mcmike McDonald type of guy. He's got a prototype
- 19:02Speaker 2: size and speed for an edge rusher. A lot of
- 19:04Speaker 2: people think Malachi Lawrence is going to get drafted in
- 19:06Speaker 2: the first round, perhaps by Dallas or a defensive needy team.
- 19:10Speaker 2: There's so many top edge rushers in this draft. Edge
- 19:12Speaker 2: rushers in outside tackles to block them are the two deepest,
- 19:17Speaker 2: most scouts say, the two deepest positions in this draft.
- 19:21Speaker 2: The one position of most glaring need for the Seahawks
- 19:23Speaker 2: is the weakest position in this draft, running back. Though
- 19:27Speaker 2: a lot of people think the Seahawks will take generian
- 19:30Speaker 2: price of Notre Dame with either the thirty second pick
- 19:33Speaker 2: or even trading down into round two four nine, four
- 19:37Speaker 2: five one. And it's coming to us tech sign. I
- 19:38Speaker 2: have asked you can put on there your your guests,
- 19:42Speaker 2: your estimation educated guests on who the Seahawks are going
- 19:46Speaker 2: to pick. Put it on there.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Well, right now, it's for bragging rights, but I'm trying
- 19:49Speaker 1: to procure some loot that we could give away to
- 19:52Speaker 1: the winner who nails with who the Seahawks pick with
- 19:55Speaker 1: their first pick. The mock drafted Thenewstribune dot Com after
- 19:59Speaker 1: Malik Lawrence, I had the Seahawks taking their sixty fourth
- 20:02Speaker 1: original second round pick at the bottom round two, Brandon Ceci,
- 20:06Speaker 1: a cornerback from South Carolina. I've talked at length of
- 20:10Speaker 1: why he just seems like a prototype Mike McDonald defensive player, smart, heady,
- 20:15Speaker 1: plays the run, versatile, can play inside and outside. Ninety
- 20:18Speaker 1: six the bottom of third round, I have him take them.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Dominique Orange, big citrus. He's three hundred and sixty plus
- 20:23Speaker 1: pounds as a nose tackle, he's a true nose tackle.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Barely had any sacks at Iowa State. But what was
- 20:31Speaker 1: interesting the Seahawks is he spent four years. All four
- 20:33Speaker 1: of his seasons he played in college were at Iowa State,
- 20:36Speaker 1: and that's becoming increasingly rare. I asked Mike McDonald about
- 20:39Speaker 1: that this week, and he said, yeah, that's a factor.
- 20:41Speaker 1: They look at guys who are loyal and have that
- 20:44Speaker 1: makeup where he and reportedly Dominic Orange from North Kansas City, Missouri,
- 20:50Speaker 1: turned down millions of dollars to go somewhere else and
- 20:52Speaker 1: stayed in ames Iowa. And if you're twenty years old
- 20:55Speaker 1: turning down millions of dollars at to stay in ames Iowa,
- 20:57Speaker 1: there's something about you there that's a little different than
- 21:00Speaker 1: and unique the Seahawks love. I don't know the he'll
- 21:03Speaker 1: last there, but I have the what most people think
- 21:05Speaker 1: is the third rated running back in this draft, Mike
- 21:07Speaker 1: Washington from Arkansas to be the Seahawks' fourth round pick
- 21:11Speaker 1: that they'll gain when they trade back from Cleveland. I
- 21:13Speaker 1: project into the top of round two and then in
- 21:16Speaker 1: the sixth round, which is the Seahawks have from trading
- 21:19Speaker 1: Nick Harris to the Browns during training camp last year,
- 21:22Speaker 1: and Nez Cooper, the right guard for four year starter
- 21:25Speaker 1: at the University of Miami. Right guard a position we
- 21:28Speaker 1: all talked about with Anthony Bradford. The Seahawks have said
- 21:30Speaker 1: they love Bradford, they're not nearly as down on him
- 21:33Speaker 1: as you may be, but his contract ends after this year.
- 21:38Speaker 1: And there is a guy I'm going to talk about
- 21:40Speaker 1: to throw out as a late round possibility instead of Cooper,
- 21:43Speaker 1: a linebacker from Michigan who was Mike McDonald's first recruit
- 21:47Speaker 1: in his only year at the University of Michigan, Jim
- 21:50Speaker 1: Harbaugh's defensive coordinator in twenty twenty three. Have you talked
- 21:54Speaker 1: about that all this spring. Jimmy Rolder is an insideline.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Really only started one full year at Michigan, has had
- 22:03Speaker 2: some injury issues, but Jimmy Rolder is the first recruit.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Mike McDonald's spent a long time his main recruiter. He
- 22:13Speaker 2: had an a coaching inside linebackers background from his time
- 22:17Speaker 2: at University of Georgia. Is a grad assistant and working
- 22:19Speaker 2: his way up there and then with the Baltimore Ravens,
- 22:22Speaker 2: he was heavily involved in linebackers and he left the
- 22:25Speaker 2: Ravens as a position coach and spent one year with
- 22:28Speaker 2: Jim Harbaugh's staff at Michigan in twenty twenty three, and
- 22:32Speaker 2: Jimmy Rolder was his first recruit.
- 22:34Speaker 1: You think he doesn't know.
- 22:35Speaker 2: Jimmy Roler, but in any other NFL coach been in
- 22:38Speaker 2: his living room, I'm sure that's a possibility. Now inside linebacker,
- 22:42Speaker 2: of course, not in position in need. Ernest Jones is
- 22:44Speaker 2: under contract for the next two years and is beloved
- 22:48Speaker 2: in that locker room. Have been a leader and wants
- 22:50Speaker 2: to finish his career here. He's still in his mid twenties,
- 22:54Speaker 2: so he's not going anywhere. But that is a depth
- 22:57Speaker 2: pick late in the draft. That could be a Mike
- 22:59Speaker 2: McDonald pick. On Saturday, Jimmy Roder from Michigan Chris, I,
- 23:08Speaker 2: it screams running back as the biggest need. Do you
- 23:10Speaker 2: think that's where they go first pick?
- 23:12Speaker 1: Oh? I would say sure. I would think yeah, that
- 23:16Speaker 1: would be the week class the I think the defense
- 23:21Speaker 1: is set. Sure. Losing Kobe Bryant not fun. Losing Tarique
- 23:25Speaker 1: Woollen not the greatest thing. Boy, Mafe, you can you can,
- 23:31Speaker 1: you can probably find a guy in the draft. But
- 23:33Speaker 1: running back Kenneth Walker, he's he's different. He's a difference maker.
- 23:37Speaker 1: And now Patrick Mahomes just third and ten. Oh, okay,
- 23:40Speaker 1: k nine, here you go first down. So they're getting
- 23:42Speaker 1: something special in him. But the Seahawks believe that they
- 23:45Speaker 1: can either get somebody in the second round. Who If
- 23:48Speaker 1: you guys listening, listen to the draft we did for
- 23:51Speaker 1: the Green Jacket on Chuck and Buck with Ashley. I
- 23:54Speaker 1: took Arkansas running back Richter Washington. I thought he would
- 23:58Speaker 1: fit in. He has that explosive skill set that the
- 24:02Speaker 1: thing that the Stots could use. He does have a
- 24:03Speaker 1: fumbling problem, but I think when you look at the
- 24:05Speaker 1: totality of it, I think running back is the most important,
- 24:09Speaker 1: but I think it's where and when can you get
- 24:11Speaker 1: that Because you don't want to take them thirty second.
- 24:14Speaker 1: I think that's just not smart process. You can get
- 24:17Speaker 1: somebody else if you really want to hold your thirty
- 24:19Speaker 1: second pick, But I do believe they'll end up trading
- 24:21Speaker 1: out of that. And then yeah, if your running back
- 24:23Speaker 1: is there at sixty four or whatever in the sixties,
- 24:27Speaker 1: I say go for it. Take him because I think
- 24:28Speaker 1: that is one area that's like, yeah, it's cool, but
- 24:31Speaker 1: you can get an athletic kid that can come in
- 24:34Speaker 1: and bring fireworks. Granted, still stuff to work on. I
- 24:37Speaker 1: know that he's not a perfect player. That's why he's
- 24:39Speaker 1: at the sixty fourth overall makes sense. But for what
- 24:44Speaker 1: this team is constructed, I believe the defense will be
- 24:47Speaker 1: really good again, and I think the offense still has
- 24:49Speaker 1: a couple of question marks, and running back is one
- 24:52Speaker 1: of them. Not to mention, you still don't know what's
- 24:54Speaker 1: going on with Tory Horton, and that's a big question
- 24:56Speaker 1: mark as well. Because yeah, you're relying on Cooper Cup
- 24:58Speaker 1: who still can do it, but damn how much longer
- 25:01Speaker 1: is he gonna be able to do it? So you
- 25:02Speaker 1: want to be able to have a healthy Tory Horton
- 25:04Speaker 1: that can add and then Rashichi he takes the next
- 25:06Speaker 1: step as well. You already know what jas In gonna do.
- 25:09Speaker 1: He's not gonna do nothing but get better. So I'm
- 25:11Speaker 1: just excited for that. And I think having a guaranteed
- 25:14Speaker 1: starting running back. Let's say they do draft Washington, he
- 25:16Speaker 1: comes in and earns the starter starting job. Cool, You're
- 25:20Speaker 1: okay with that as opposed to I believe in all
- 25:22Speaker 1: these guys, and it's still we're waiting for it. We
- 25:26Speaker 1: haven't found it week one. Yeah, we're still rotating guys.
- 25:30Speaker 1: I don't know if that'll be a success as successful
- 25:32Speaker 1: as it was last season with Zach Sharberney and Kenneth Walker,
- 25:35Speaker 1: two really good running backs that were the Yin and
- 25:37Speaker 1: yang that show that they can carry that load. Versus
- 25:41Speaker 1: a bunch of guys that are unfamiliar in this new
- 25:44Speaker 1: system and you're trying to do the same thing that
- 25:46Speaker 1: you did last year. I don't think that would work again.
- 25:49Speaker 1: The Seahawks have seven running backs under contract right for
- 25:53Speaker 1: the ninety man roster. Zero of them have deals beyond
- 25:57Speaker 1: twenty twenty six. All their contracts end after this year,
- 25:59Speaker 1: including zactually Rburan is rookie deal and Sharbonnay may not
- 26:02Speaker 1: be in the field till October November because of his
- 26:04Speaker 1: knee injury he got in the Division playoffs against San Francisco.
- 26:07Speaker 2: They sign Emmanuel Wilson, who was a part time running
- 26:09Speaker 2: back from Green Bay five hundred yard a season rusher,
- 26:13Speaker 2: and right now he would with George Hallani probably be
- 26:17Speaker 2: the inside track guys to get the primary carries, depending
- 26:20Speaker 2: on how Kenny McIntosh comes back off of his injury.
- 26:23Speaker 2: This is a draft that is reputed to be very
- 26:26Speaker 2: weak in running backs in that league that has devalued
- 26:28Speaker 2: running backs for the reasons we've talked about being the
- 26:30Speaker 2: most at treated injured position in the sport. Genarian Price
- 26:35Speaker 2: of Notre Dame is likely to be available in the
- 26:38Speaker 2: second round or at the end of the first when
- 26:40Speaker 2: the Seahawks are turning to pick or trading back to pick,
- 26:44Speaker 2: do they do that?
- 26:45Speaker 1: And they were at.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Notre Dame's pro day. They talked to the Notre Dame
- 26:49Speaker 2: running backs coach. They reportedly have had a top thirty
- 26:52Speaker 2: visit with Mike Washington, junior of Arkansas, the running back
- 26:55Speaker 2: that ran a four to three three forty at two
- 26:58Speaker 2: hundred and twenty three pounds combine, the fastest of a
- 27:02Speaker 2: two hundred and twenty plus pound player at the combine.
- 27:06Speaker 2: But Chris mentioned the fumbling issues ten fumbles at three
- 27:08Speaker 2: different schools, Buffalo, New Mexico State and one season at Arkansas.
- 27:13Speaker 2: That's a concern with him. Or do they go other positions.
- 27:17Speaker 2: I think they're gonna go edge rusher because Mike McDonald
- 27:19Speaker 2: can never have enough of them. Cornerback I think is
- 27:21Speaker 2: also in play. I mentioned Brandon Ceci from South Carolina.
- 27:24Speaker 2: When are you on the text line and agreeing with
- 27:27Speaker 2: me and saying that's going to be their first pick.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Suffice to say, with only four picks in his draft,
- 27:33Speaker 1: John Schneider, and he's readily admitted it. He said, this
- 27:36Speaker 1: is a weaker draft. So we dealt accordingly, and we
- 27:39Speaker 1: traded two third day picks for Rashid Shaheed to get
- 27:42Speaker 1: him from the Saints during November. We traded last summer.
- 27:46Speaker 1: We've traded these picks knowing this draft was weaker next
- 27:50Speaker 1: year strong. That's why they have twelve picks, and I
- 27:54Speaker 1: think that's unique about this draft. There is only one
- 27:57Speaker 1: quarterback that.
- 27:58Speaker 2: Is consensus first round pick, Fernanda Mendoza very number one
- 28:02Speaker 2: to the Raiders to start the draft tonight. Some people
- 28:05Speaker 2: think Ty Simpson could go late, especially if Arizona moves
- 28:08Speaker 2: back into the bottom of the first round. But Chris
- 28:11Speaker 2: Theban drafts were a couple of years ago there were
- 28:13Speaker 2: six in the first twelve players were quarterbacks and how'd
- 28:17Speaker 2: that work out?
- 28:18Speaker 1: Well? Yeah, the.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Hugh Mellen on the roundtable this morning talking about the
- 28:24Speaker 2: second quarterback has been they've gone. The draft has had
- 28:28Speaker 2: two quarterbacks drafted within the top ten and nine of
- 28:30Speaker 2: the last eleven years, and often it's three to four
- 28:35Speaker 2: in the first round, and this year they would be
- 28:37Speaker 2: lucky to have two in the entire first thirty two
- 28:39Speaker 2: picks of the draft, which speaks to the overall quality
- 28:42Speaker 2: of the draft, not just a quarterback, but in general
- 28:45Speaker 2: in what people think of NFL ready players. So the
- 28:48Speaker 2: quarterback position always almost always spurs trades teams that want
- 28:53Speaker 2: to go jump up and get a quarterback. What makes
- 28:56Speaker 2: the Cardinals move up in the draft to get the
- 28:58Speaker 2: Seahawks thirty second pick from thirty four. You think, well,
- 29:01Speaker 2: thirty four to thirty two, what's a big deal? Thirty
- 29:03Speaker 2: three of the Jets the first pick of round number two,
- 29:06Speaker 2: and we know what the Jets.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Have done at quarterback.
- 29:08Speaker 2: They re signed, brought back Geno Smith, and Geno Smith
- 29:12Speaker 2: is in his mid thirties and not gonna play forever.
- 29:14Speaker 2: That's not a long term solution at quarterback. So the
- 29:17Speaker 2: Jets could be in play to draft a quarterback like
- 29:19Speaker 2: Ty Simpson if he's still on the board at thirty two,
- 29:22Speaker 2: whom the Seahawks won't draft, and then the Cardinals you
- 29:25Speaker 2: could see conceivably say, well, the Jets might take Ty Simpsons,
- 29:27Speaker 2: so we got to jump up and get him at
- 29:28Speaker 2: thirty two. And that's the scenario that a lot of
- 29:30Speaker 2: people are marking will happen tonight for the Seahawks at
- 29:33Speaker 2: thirty two four nine four five one. To come to
- 29:35Speaker 2: a text line, we'll read back your text at eleven
- 29:39Speaker 2: thirty Who the Seahawks you think are going to take
- 29:42Speaker 2: with the first pick, whether that's tonight or tomorrow, or
- 29:45Speaker 2: you can put it in the comments on the YouTube
- 29:47Speaker 2: channel nine three three KJR.
- 29:49Speaker 1: I'm waving to the camera. I'm still getting used to
- 29:51Speaker 1: the fact that we're now on video as well. Coming
- 29:54Speaker 1: up next Mariners, they're an off day to day. They
- 29:57Speaker 1: go to Sanglos for a three game series. It's the
- 30:00Speaker 1: state of the bullpen. What's to stay of the heart
- 30:01Speaker 1: of the lineup that's been so frigid? Are there signs
- 30:03Speaker 1: that they're warming up? And at eleven o'clock we're talking
- 30:07Speaker 1: more NFL Draft.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Nick bomb Gardner, NFL Draft reporter for The Athletic, will
- 30:11Speaker 2: join us live on the phone on ninety three point
- 30:13Speaker 2: three KJRFM. Welcome back to the show, Greg Rest Show
- 30:25Speaker 2: with Christopher Kid Here on ninety three point three kjr FM.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Happy Thursday, Happy Draft Day for those that celebrate, May
- 30:32Speaker 2: sure doing here. You can see the Christmas tree behind us.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Chuck was wearing a what was that a robe? Had
- 30:39Speaker 1: his pipe? He had a pipe a robe. He looked
- 30:42Speaker 1: like the dad in Christmas Story, sitting on the couch
- 30:45Speaker 1: getting a bowling ball dropped on his lap. Yeah, Ashley
- 30:49Speaker 1: was wearing a Christmas tree on her head. And no,
- 30:52Speaker 1: they were in it. Man, it was braid to roll.
- 30:55Speaker 1: So what's that mean? The tree comes down out today
- 30:57Speaker 1: because Christmas I was there. No, it won't come down
- 31:00Speaker 1: probably until Monday. Monday might be gone. I would guess
- 31:06Speaker 1: Friday would be the last time I happened. The end
- 31:08Speaker 1: of holiday season. Correct, Then you have the blaws of
- 31:11Speaker 1: post draft miss holidays, the hangover dare isay, Yeah.
- 31:15Speaker 2: There's no New Year's Eve or New Year's to kick
- 31:18Speaker 2: it back up again in a week. But yeah, check
- 31:20Speaker 2: gets into it. We were in the roundtable this morning.
- 31:22Speaker 2: If you missed it, go to the iHeartRadio app. Go
- 31:24Speaker 2: to nine through three KJR. You can listen to Hugh Mellen,
- 31:27Speaker 2: Chuck Powell, Ashley Ryan and I chop it up for
- 31:30Speaker 2: an hour around the table about the Mariners. The Seahawks
- 31:34Speaker 2: draft the Mariners. They're gonna be in Saint Louis during
- 31:37Speaker 2: the draft, starting a three game series tomorrow against the
- 31:40Speaker 2: Cardinals in Missouri. By the way, the Sounder will lose
- 31:44Speaker 2: track maybe if you're so draft centric. The Sounders are
- 31:47Speaker 2: going to be home against FC Dallas. That's going to
- 31:49Speaker 2: be here on ninety three point three KJRFM at the
- 31:51Speaker 2: Yard downtown and Soto on Saturday. Back to the Mariners
- 31:58Speaker 2: three game series. They lost two of them on the
- 32:00Speaker 2: first two against the A's, they salvaged the win. Yesterday
- 32:03Speaker 2: that man, it was a hard way Andres Munoz for
- 32:07Speaker 2: the second time in seven days, blew a ninth inning lead.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Of course, gave up five runs in San Diego part
- 32:13Speaker 2: of that six to oh lead. The Mariners lost and
- 32:16Speaker 2: lost the game seven to six to the Padres. And
- 32:19Speaker 2: then yesterday they're leading by a run on the top
- 32:21Speaker 2: of the ninth and Nick Kurtz dropped his bat.
- 32:24Speaker 1: That was a brilliant home run. It wasn't like he
- 32:26Speaker 1: hung a slider.
- 32:27Speaker 2: That was a slider that Munials threw low in the
- 32:30Speaker 2: strike zone at the bottom of the zone that Nick
- 32:32Speaker 2: Kurtz dropped his bat on and just destroyed the deep
- 32:36Speaker 2: center field, one of the longest parts of the park,
- 32:40Speaker 2: way out past centerfield to tie the game at four.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Then in the bottom of the ninth, leadoff single Chris
- 32:47Speaker 2: and then by the nine hit a rebas and then
- 32:49Speaker 2: JP Crawford's up and I'm sitting there watching, going, well,
- 32:51Speaker 2: they got a bun here, they got Raleigh, who's warm
- 32:57Speaker 2: hot this week by the standards of early season, Hilario,
- 33:01Speaker 2: Rodriguez and Naylor. Your three big guns coming up put
- 33:05Speaker 2: the runner at second and one out with the game
- 33:06Speaker 2: in line, and Ryan Heay and the broadcast grow brought
- 33:10Speaker 2: up the point on Mariner's TV that well, if you walk,
- 33:14Speaker 2: if you bunt, excuse me, the runner to second base
- 33:17Speaker 2: and have first base someone who went out. They're gonna
- 33:19Speaker 2: intentionally walk Kyl Rawley, to which I say, so what
- 33:22Speaker 2: then you have first and second, one out with Hulio Rodriguez,
- 33:27Speaker 2: the guy you're paying two hundred million dollars up to
- 33:29Speaker 2: win the game. What's wrong with that scenario? The pressure's
- 33:32Speaker 2: on the pitcher there. Well, they have JP Crawford swing away.
- 33:36Speaker 2: It's we've talked about this. The analytics just say don't bunt,
- 33:40Speaker 2: so they don't. That's how the Mariners are driven. And
- 33:43Speaker 2: they swing away and JP Crawford grounds into a double play,
- 33:47Speaker 2: and it looks like the rally's over. And then Kyle
- 33:50Speaker 2: Rawley gets his third hit. He reaches base for the
- 33:53Speaker 2: third consecutive three times for the third second consecutive day.
- 33:57Speaker 2: And then Hilario Rodriguez gets a hit first and second,
- 34:01Speaker 2: two out. Josh Naylor goes the opposite way for his
- 34:04Speaker 2: third hit to the opposite field yesterday, and Chris if
- 34:06Speaker 2: you want to look at a way that you could say, well,
- 34:09Speaker 2: maybe they're warming up. Hitting three singles to the opposite
- 34:12Speaker 2: field is a big plus for this team. With the
- 34:15Speaker 2: game on the line, they didn't try to hit the
- 34:17Speaker 2: home run. He inside out the ball to left field,
- 34:20Speaker 2: scores Raley with the game winning run. The Mariners went
- 34:24Speaker 2: five to four. I mentioned Munos is eight era.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Balloon by that San Diego outing. He's given up nine
- 34:31Speaker 1: runs in the three outings that he's lost and blown
- 34:35Speaker 1: two saves. It's not technically a blown save in San Diego,
- 34:38Speaker 1: I know, because they were leading by more than two
- 34:40Speaker 1: runs that started the inning, but three runs that started inning,
- 34:43Speaker 1: But essentially it was a blown save, and then yesterday
- 34:47Speaker 1: one run lead blown save. His slider is getting hit.
- 34:51Speaker 2: The slider getting hit as the concern because last year
- 34:55Speaker 2: that slider had on a point one five batting average
- 35:00Speaker 2: against with a fifty one percent with rate. This year
- 35:03Speaker 2: that withf rate on all his pitches, not just the slider,
- 35:06Speaker 2: is down to forty percent according to Baseball Savant.
- 35:12Speaker 1: And he's thrown at fifty eight percent of the time
- 35:14Speaker 1: the slider even though he has one hundred mile on
- 35:16Speaker 1: hour fastball, so he's throwing the slider more, and he's
- 35:19Speaker 1: getting less whiff on it, and he gets a home
- 35:22Speaker 1: run on Kurtz on it yesterday.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Robably two consecutive games, reaching base three times, home runs
- 35:27Speaker 2: in three straight games. Rodriguez is interesting statistically. In fourteen days,
- 35:31Speaker 2: he's raised his batting average from one forty three to
- 35:33Speaker 2: two forty five and ops has gone from three ninety
- 35:35Speaker 2: three to six forty five last year. Interestingly, so he's
- 35:39Speaker 2: at two forty five now. Chris headed his Cardinal series
- 35:42Speaker 2: last year. Julia Rodriguez did not have a batting average
- 35:45Speaker 2: of at least two to forty five until June fourth.
- 35:48Speaker 2: He's like six weeks ahead.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Of where he was last year. We're all talking about it.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Slow starts now, we'll see if he can sustain it.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Josh Naylor's three hits, as I said, all to the
- 35:55Speaker 2: opposite field, all signs that maybe those top three are
- 35:59Speaker 2: warm and up. We'll see what the National League pitching
- 36:02Speaker 2: and the Cardinals this weekend do with the Mariners in
- 36:05Speaker 2: Saint Louis up next. More NFL draft Dick Baumgardner. He's
