• 2:28
Speaker 6: who entertained us at the twenty twenty five Charles Stern
• 2:30
Speaker 6: will regatta. Some pretty big names coming to town, and
• 2:33
Speaker 6: I got the mayor here, the biggest name of all.
• 2:36
Speaker 6: Well to hear about that before we talk Regatta in
• 2:39
Speaker 6: the entertainment announcement was made. Yeah, Stray, let's talk about
• 2:42
Speaker 6: severe weather anything to anything to talk about in Charleston
• 2:46
  Speaker 6: proper today.
• 2:47
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 2:47
Speaker 3: Sure, some sporadic power outages across the area, no real
• 2:53
Speaker 3: big issues. As of five minutes ago, we did not
• 2:57
Speaker 3: have any reports or tree down. We're monitoring, obviously, always
• 3:04
Speaker 3: we're monitoring, but no no creek issues, no trees down.
• 3:09
Speaker 3: There's probably twenty one hundred folks without power through Knall County.
• 3:15
Speaker 3: So if you're without power, it's a big deal for sure.
• 3:18
Speaker 3: But but the big thing is, you know, as my
• 3:21
Speaker 3: husband leaned over this morning and said, suld should we
• 3:24
Speaker 3: go in the basement when you start to hear those sirens?
• 3:28
Speaker 3: And we do them and we practice them for good reason.
• 3:31
Speaker 4: We just had to practice what last week.
• 3:33
Speaker 3: Well, we always we always do the sirens on Wednesday,
• 3:36
Speaker 3: the county and the EOC I call them. I've caught
• 3:39
Speaker 3: them on your show day for years, our quarterback. So
• 3:43
Speaker 3: when we put off that siren on Wednesday in the
• 3:46
Speaker 3: county at noon, and the reason why we do it
• 3:49
Speaker 3: and we always do a test, is to make sure
• 3:51
Speaker 3: the system's right. But I was reminding folks this morning
• 3:54
Speaker 3: as well, it is also a time to think about
• 3:58
Speaker 3: not where you are Wednesday at noon, because everybody says,
• 4:01
Speaker 3: oh it's Wednesday at noon, there goes the siren. The
• 4:03
Speaker 3: reason why we do that for the public too is
• 4:05
Speaker 3: to remind them think about your plan, not just where
• 4:07
Speaker 3: you are at that minute, but if you have children,
• 4:10
Speaker 3: your school, your home, your parents, Where are your parents
• 4:13
Speaker 3: on Saturday at two or Thursday at nine pm? And
• 4:17
Speaker 3: to make a plan. It is always important we got
• 4:20
Speaker 3: through this one without any issues. But you know, yesterday
• 4:23
Speaker 3: was a year anniversary to the last big storm. And oh,
• 4:27
Speaker 3: by the way, my first year in office in July,
• 4:30
Speaker 3: we have two tornadoes touched down.
• 4:33
Speaker 4: That was in the evening hours, was that it was
• 4:35
  Speaker 4: later on.
• 4:36
Speaker 3: But it still is a time to plan. And there
• 4:40
Speaker 3: is a good reason why. And I think you said
• 4:41
Speaker 3: you're going to have Brian Hughes on and he talks
• 4:44
Speaker 3: about it better than anybody I know, is that when
• 4:47
Speaker 3: we have these things, it is always a good time
• 4:49
Speaker 3: to make a plan and think about your house, your work,
• 4:54
Speaker 3: and any other location that you frequent to say, what
• 4:57
Speaker 3: are my plans and how do I get people into
• 5:00
Speaker 3: a safe space? Listen, we live in Appalachia, and we
• 5:03
Speaker 3: live in the mountain state. We have more trees than
• 5:05
Speaker 3: we do people, Dave, where are you in your house?
• 5:08
Speaker 3: And where are your parents and your families? And it's
• 5:09
Speaker 3: always a good time to make a plan.
• 5:11
Speaker 6: And we're not out of the woods yet, because we
• 5:13
Speaker 6: just had some heavy rain roll through the downtown charles
• 5:16
Speaker 6: Stonnaria about thirty minutes or so ago. In more severe
• 5:18
Speaker 6: weather is on the way.
• 5:19
  Speaker 4: It's I heard it.
• 5:20
Speaker 6: I actually heard Brian this morning talking about it's like
• 5:23
Speaker 6: a twelve hour deal. You know, it really hit in
• 5:24
Speaker 6: the Kanaal Valley sometime during the over nine hours has
• 5:27
Speaker 6: been on where you live, and then as you head
• 5:30
Speaker 6: home twelve hours later, you're gonna be hit with it
• 5:32
Speaker 6: again four or five o'clock or so this afternoon. In
• 5:35
Speaker 6: the meantime, most of the well, the all fifty five
• 5:38
Speaker 6: counties are under a state of preparedness that came from
• 5:41
Speaker 6: Governor Morrissey. So it's and it's springtime, and we tend
• 5:46
  Speaker 6: to have these.
• 5:47
  Speaker 4: We're lucky.
• 5:47
Speaker 6: We don't have the type of tornadic activities like you
• 5:51
Speaker 6: see in the South and like you see in places
• 5:53
Speaker 6: in the Midwest. But we do get our fair share,
• 5:56
Speaker 6: you know, from time to town.
• 5:57
Speaker 3: So at the EOC it was activated in the wee
• 6:00
Speaker 3: hours early this morning. It will remain there until C. W.
• 6:05
Speaker 3: Sigmund turns off that but he's not going to I
• 6:08
Speaker 3: don't anticipate any time soon. So we're going to keep
• 6:11
Speaker 3: our eyes to the sky for sure.
• 6:12
Speaker 6: All right, let me remind you that the Dave Island
• 6:14

• 6:33
Speaker 6: the announcement was made about the entertainment at the regatta.
• 6:39
Speaker 6: Those announcements made at an Incovia Insurance offices downtown Charleston.
• 6:43
  Speaker 6: They've been a little I'm a little biased there, but
• 6:46
Speaker 6: they have been a big part of the returning regatta
• 6:49
  Speaker 6: since day one.
• 6:50
Speaker 3: Absolutely. They were our first folks on board, and you know,
• 6:52
Speaker 3: really and COVID took a chance on us. They said, okay,
• 6:56
Speaker 3: when we went to them and said we're bringing the
• 6:58
Speaker 3: regatta back, will you be our title sponsor? Well, that's
• 7:01
Speaker 3: pretty hard to do when you have no history and
• 7:03
Speaker 3: it's been gone for a long period of time. But
• 7:05
Speaker 3: they were with us in the beginning, and so we
• 7:08
Speaker 3: were at their headquarters yesterday to make the announcement of
• 7:12
Speaker 3: our headliner list. As I mentioned yesterday and this morning
• 7:16
Speaker 3: to folks, we still have more musical entertainment that we're
• 7:19
Speaker 3: going to be announcing in the weeks and months to come,
• 7:22
Speaker 3: but really excited to have a country singer up and
• 7:27
Speaker 3: she is. My nieces are over the moon about Carly
• 7:30
Speaker 3: Pearce is going to kick it off day one on Thursday,
• 7:33
Speaker 3: July third. She's a Grammy Award winning singer. Neat Kentucky Native.
• 7:38
Speaker 3: We're already getting calls from hotel from people in Kentucky
• 7:41
Speaker 3: that are calling into the hotels. When's she playing? When
• 7:44
Speaker 3: she play in? I want to come because remember there Regatta,
• 7:47
Speaker 3: twenty two percent of everyone that comes to Regta, they're
• 7:50
Speaker 3: from out of state. Dave, they're out of state.
• 7:52
Speaker 4: It's an amazing number.
• 7:53
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's so great. I mean, we have quickly found
• 7:56
Speaker 3: ourselves to be the largest event in the state of
• 7:58
Speaker 3: West Virginia. Now on Friday, I mentioned yesterday that my
• 8:02
Speaker 3: sister and I when we were little, we're ten and
• 8:04
Speaker 3: a half months apart. She had a powder blue satin jacket.
• 8:07
Speaker 3: I had a pink, pale, pink satin jacket with our name.
• 8:12
Speaker 3: That's when my embroidery was like nobody could get their
• 8:15
Speaker 3: name on things. My mom had a neighbor who stitched
• 8:17
Speaker 3: our names in the side. We used to sing and
• 8:20
Speaker 3: dance to Casey in the Sunshine Band. Y.
• 8:22
Speaker 6: I thought about that when that was announced yesterday, and
• 8:24
Speaker 6: I think you and I are about a year or
• 8:26
Speaker 6: two apart in age. I'm a little bit older and
• 8:28
Speaker 6: it takes me back to my grade school days. I
• 8:31
Speaker 6: should be at the at the Davin Skating Rink in
• 8:35
Speaker 6: Logan County with Casein. But I mentioned this on the
• 8:37
Speaker 6: show yesterday on the Midday Show, and I think I've
• 8:40
Speaker 6: talked about on this show as well. Two years ago
• 8:43
Speaker 6: I saw Casey in the Sunshine Band in concert at
• 8:45
Speaker 6: the People's Bank Theater in Marietta, Ohio. Yeah, I wasn't
• 8:48
Speaker 6: that up on going, to be honest with you, I'm
• 8:50
Speaker 6: not a disco kind of guy. One of the probably
• 8:54
Speaker 6: three or four best concerts I ever saw, and my
• 8:57
Speaker 6: wife man drugged me there and it was a two
• 8:59
Speaker 6: and a half half hour concert. He's in his early seventies,
• 9:04
Speaker 6: kills it and and his band is just incredible, and
• 9:09
Speaker 6: it was probably, as I said, I've seen a lot
• 9:11
Speaker 6: of concerts in my time on this earth, one of
• 9:14
Speaker 6: the two or three best most entertaining concerts I ever saw.
• 9:17
Speaker 4: Those folks can rock.
• 9:19
Speaker 3: So I always have a good focus group within my
• 9:22
Speaker 3: family because my boys, Davis you on Uber twenty one
• 9:24
Speaker 3: and twenty three, and my mom is eighty two, and
• 9:26
Speaker 3: so I played songs for both of them. They're like, oh, yes,
• 9:29
Speaker 3: I know them. Oh my gosh, I love that song.
• 9:31
Speaker 3: I love this song. If you've been to any wedding,
• 9:33
Speaker 3: you know all of the Casey and the Sunshine band songs.
• 9:37
  Speaker 4: The Fit's party. I mean, they're a party band. And
• 9:40
Speaker 4: he even said that when I saw him a concert.
• 9:41
Speaker 6: He started the show by saying, if you came here
• 9:43
Speaker 6: to sit on your hands, you came to the wrong
• 9:45
Speaker 6: you came to the wrong venue.
• 9:46
Speaker 4: Saturday night. Buster Rhymes, I mean.
• 9:48
Speaker 3: It's probably and again this is what people say, why
• 9:52
Speaker 3: don't you have this way that Listen When they started
• 9:56
Speaker 3: talking about making offers to folks and Buster Rhymes, I
• 9:58
Speaker 3: literally said to Matthew Center, t now Buster Rhymes, Do
• 10:02
Speaker 3: I know mister Rhymes And He's like, yes, Mayor you
• 10:05
Speaker 3: know who he is and started playing. So I was like, oh, okay, okay,
• 10:08
Speaker 3: it's the number. My phone has been blown up over
• 10:12
Speaker 3: Buster Rhymes, blown up over Buster Rymes, far and away.
• 10:16
Speaker 3: That is an artist that I didn't anticipate everybody saying,
• 10:21
Speaker 3: oh thank goodness, like I've been wanting to see him, think, gosh,
• 10:23
Speaker 3: you got him. This is incredible. So that's on Saturday night,
• 10:27
Speaker 3: and then we're going to wrap up on Sunday, July
• 10:29
Speaker 3: sixth with Jefferson Starship.
• 10:31
Speaker 6: And this is a band and we were the three
• 10:34
Speaker 6: of us along with Chris Lawrence. We're having this discussion
• 10:37
Speaker 6: off the air. I mean, you know, they started as
• 10:39
Speaker 6: Jefferson Airplane, White Rabbits, Somebody'd Love in the late sixties.
• 10:42
Speaker 6: They morphed into more of a rock band in the
• 10:45
Speaker 6: mid seventies, and you talk about the hits that these
• 10:49
Speaker 6: that this band has had over the year, and then
• 10:51
Speaker 6: in the eighties they became something totally different when Mickey
• 10:53
Speaker 6: Thomas took over the lead vocals. Uh, and they did
• 10:57
Speaker 6: nothing's going to stop us now. And of course we
• 10:58
Speaker 6: built the city, which Rob, rob Reel and I were
• 11:01
Speaker 6: talking about. This was voted by Rolling Stone as the
• 11:04
Speaker 6: worst song. Ever, however, everybody knows it and that will
• 11:09
Speaker 6: be the hit of the concert, I promise.
• 11:11
Speaker 4: When we built this city and uh, and they do all.
• 11:15
Speaker 6: That stuff in concert because it has been various, you know,
• 11:16
Speaker 6: various incarnations of the band over the years, and this
• 11:19
Speaker 6: one's Coming Gone and the song it's the.
• 11:23
Speaker 3: Whole catalog, that's right, Yeah, it's the whole catalog. And
• 11:25
Speaker 3: so they're going to be singing all of those songs.
• 11:27
Speaker 3: So somebody said, oh, you know Jefferson Airplane, that's different
• 11:30
  Speaker 3: than Jefferson's, aren't. No, it's all the same. They're all
• 11:32
Speaker 3: sing the same song.
• 11:33
Speaker 6: They're Yeah, that's right, and I'm going to be really
• 11:36
Speaker 6: upset if they don't do their song from the late seventies,
• 11:40
Speaker 6: Jane and dedicated to Jane Bostic.
• 11:42
  Speaker 8: Oh.
• 11:42
  Speaker 4: Yes, they've got.
• 11:42
Speaker 3: To do that for sure. The reason why you didn't
• 11:45
Speaker 3: see her yesterday during our announcement is she heard her
• 11:47
Speaker 3: pall so she couldn't. She couldn't. She can't move around
• 11:51
Speaker 3: really great right now, but we're all going to be
• 11:53
Speaker 3: singing that song to Dane during the record, And I.
• 11:56
Speaker 6: Think it's a really good point is we'll start to
• 11:58
Speaker 6: wrap up. I I like what you said at the
• 12:01
Speaker 6: beginning of the segment because yesterday and people heard my
• 12:03
Speaker 6: rant on the air done on social media. People, you know,
• 12:07
Speaker 6: the amount of people that complained about free entertainment just
• 12:10
Speaker 6: astounds me. However, I will say this, people said they
• 12:14
Speaker 6: were throwing out certain artists names and saying, well, you know,
• 12:17
Speaker 6: we've got great local talent here, what about this person?
• 12:20
Speaker 6: Those people haven't been announced yet, right, I mean there's
• 12:23
Speaker 6: still more coming, right, And there's.
• 12:24
Speaker 3: Still more coming. But I'll go ahead and say this,
• 12:26
Speaker 3: and I'll give props very quickly as we end. I'll
• 12:29
Speaker 3: give props to this, and people say, oh, I don't
• 12:31
  Speaker 3: like it, I don't want I know, I know this
• 12:33
Speaker 3: to be true. By the way, I'm not on the
• 12:35
Speaker 3: pick and committee. I was for some of the local
• 12:37
Speaker 3: folks that are going to be in playing out. So
• 12:39
Speaker 3: I was part of that committee of who's playing locally
• 12:41
Speaker 3: but nationally. That's not my I have a great skill set.
• 12:44
Speaker 3: That's not part of my skill set. I leave it
• 12:45
Speaker 3: to people who know. But I know that this is.
• 12:47
Speaker 4: This is the mayor that said, do I know mister Ryan.
• 12:49
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, so I know what my skill set is.
• 12:51
Speaker 3: But I will say that but I know local. But
• 12:53
Speaker 3: this is this is what I know to be factually true.
• 12:56
Speaker 3: It's the largest event in the state of West Virginia.
• 12:58
Speaker 3: We grow every single year. Two hundred and thirty five
• 13:00
Speaker 3: thousand people there last year. We may not get everything perfect,
• 13:04
Speaker 3: but we've got a little bit of magic in picking
• 13:07
Speaker 3: groups that your mom will love, your sister will love,
• 13:10
Speaker 3: your kids will love, your brother will love, and so
• 13:13
Speaker 3: it is an eclectic mix and there is a method,
• 13:16
Speaker 3: believe it or not, to the madness. So I know
• 13:19
Speaker 3: to trust our folks because every single year, hundreds of
• 13:22
Speaker 3: thousands of people show up to the largest event in
• 13:24
Speaker 3: the state. And by the way, this is what I
• 13:26
Speaker 3: know also about the Regatta. It's not just about the
• 13:29
Speaker 3: music now, it's about being together. It's about grabbing a
• 13:31
Speaker 3: great sandwich, having a beer, spending time with your family,
• 13:34
Speaker 3: going to the carnival. My kids absolutely love, love love
• 13:39
Speaker 3: going to you know how big they are, going to
• 13:41
Speaker 3: every single vendor and trying different foods. It is a
• 13:45
Speaker 3: large part about the music, Dave, But most of all,
• 13:47
Speaker 3: Regatta is about coming together, bringing our families and our
• 13:51
Speaker 3: communities together to share in something super special.
• 13:54
Speaker 6: And as we get closer to the Regatta, we'll have
• 13:56
Speaker 6: you and the other Regatta folks on the air a
• 13:58
Speaker 6: lot to talk about it as if you want to,
• 14:00
Speaker 6: because this is just the first announcement of the entertainment.
• 14:03

Speaker 6: Yes, well I forgot you're being charged to be here today.
• 17:36
Speaker 6: I forgot about that. Now I'm kidding about that.
• 17:38
Speaker 4: I forgot my checkbook. Yeah, of course, so appreciate it.
• 17:41
Speaker 4: So yeah, well, welcome, welcome to the place here. Man, No,
• 17:44
Speaker 4: it's very nice, it's very nice.
• 17:46
Speaker 6: Yeah, we're we're excited. We'll even be more excited when
• 17:49
Speaker 6: we learn how to operate everything. That'll even that'll be better.
• 17:53
Speaker 6: I want to start Mike, but talking about child welfare
• 17:57
Speaker 6: for a moment, For the third time you brought up
• 18:01
Speaker 6: a bill I guess to study the child welfare system,
• 18:04
Speaker 6: and this time it moves forward. Talk about this thing
• 18:06
Speaker 6: from the beginning. Yeah, so beating my head against a wall.
• 18:10
Speaker 6: I brought it up one time. I think it was
• 18:12
Speaker 6: March tenth, and that was the meeting we had.
• 18:17
Speaker 8: Unreliable, a substance abuse problem that continues to ravage countrysides
• 18:22
Speaker 8: and families. We ought to be focused in fixing these things.
• 18:25
Speaker 8: We can do this, We can do this.
• 18:28
Speaker 6: But again with state senator and judiciary chair out of
• 18:31
Speaker 6: the Senate, Mike Stewart SB ninety four, and I'm sorry,
• 18:34
Speaker 6: nine to forty four is what we're talking about here.
• 18:35
Speaker 6: And as you said, Mike, it does go to the House,
• 18:38
Speaker 6: and I know you're pretty hopeful that it will pass there.
• 18:40
Speaker 8: Yeah, there's great detail in that bill too. This is
• 18:43
Speaker 8: not one of those feel good bills. It spells out
• 18:46
Speaker 8: in stark detail exactly what we're going to study and
• 18:49
Speaker 8: exactly what we're going to fix. And the goal here
• 18:52
Speaker 8: is not to just fix CPS, or just fix the
• 18:54
Speaker 8: foster care system, or just fix the court system related
• 18:58
Speaker 8: to abuse in the Gale family. It needs to fix
• 19:02
Speaker 8: all three and we can do this.
• 19:03
Speaker 4: This is not a heavy lift.
• 19:05
Speaker 8: We just need to make sure we're committed to doing
• 19:07
Speaker 8: it and that the political will is there to do
• 19:10
Speaker 8: it with the people of West Virginia. I believe this
• 19:13
Speaker 8: bill is an important next step, but we have to
• 19:17
Speaker 8: have follow through. You can pass every bill you want,
• 19:19
Speaker 8: but if you don't have follow through, you don't get
• 19:21
Speaker 8: where you need to be.

Speaker 6: the Student's Sports Bill. I talked about it a little
• 19:41
Speaker 6: bit on the Midday Show. This is something that you've
• 19:43
Speaker 6: been championing. I mean think you started on this thing
• 19:46
Speaker 6: on this show six eight months ago or something like that,
• 19:49
Speaker 6: following the death of Cohen Craddock down in Boone County.
• 19:52
  Speaker 4: Talk about that.
• 19:53
Speaker 8: Well, I know I have my critics, but I follow
• 19:55
Speaker 8: up on the things I say. I'm going to do,
• 19:57
Speaker 8: and that tragedy that happened on that football field in
• 20:00
Speaker 8: Boone County out of that from the hard work, and
• 20:03
Speaker 8: I admire the entire Cradock family, Ryan and Jennifer, the
• 20:09
Speaker 8: mom and dad of Cohen, and we put together the
• 20:13
Speaker 8: Cohen Craddock Student Athlete Safety Bill. It doesn't only speak
• 20:16
Speaker 8: to Cohen, but it creates a legacy for Coen and
• 20:18
Speaker 8: his family that could be nationwide. And what it creates
• 20:23
Speaker 8: is the greatest group of folks, experts, the head of
• 20:26
Speaker 8: the Neuroscience Center at WVU, the head of the medical
• 20:29
Speaker 8: school at WU, and Marshall athletic trainers that will come
• 20:33
Speaker 8: together regularly to identify ways we can be safer and
• 20:38
Speaker 8: smarter with respect to all our student athletes, not just football,
• 20:42
Speaker 8: but all those other sports in which there's high risk
• 20:44
Speaker 8: for our kids competing each day. It does mandate for
• 20:49
Speaker 8: contact practices for middle school and high school, just for
• 20:53
Speaker 8: practices the use of soft shell helmet covers. But most important,
• 20:57
Speaker 8: I think that the great legacy here it creates a
• 20:59
Speaker 8: grant program, not a taxpayer funded program, but a grant
• 21:03
Speaker 8: program that will be administered by the state where we
• 21:06
Speaker 8: can raise private dollars and contributions. We already have folks saying, hey,
• 21:10
Speaker 8: where do I write my check? Where do I make
• 21:12
Speaker 8: my contribution, So that schools who already suffer with the
• 21:16
Speaker 8: difficulty of being able to buy just regular equipment are
• 21:19
Speaker 8: going to be able to go to the state and say, hey,
• 21:21
Speaker 8: we want to buy this particular piece of equipment to
• 21:25
Speaker 8: help our student athletes. And I think it relieves all
• 21:29
Speaker 8: these counties that struggle to be able to just meet
• 21:32
Speaker 8: regular bills, to be able to give them a fund
• 21:34
Speaker 8: they can go to to help with this whole thing.
• 21:37
Speaker 8: This could transform the way safety is approached in West Virginia.
• 21:41
Speaker 8: And when it passes, if it passes the House, and
• 21:43
Speaker 8: I again urge them to take this up, this will
• 21:46
Speaker 8: make West Virginia the pre eminent state in the country
• 21:49
Speaker 8: that is so focused on student athletes safety for our
• 21:52
Speaker 8: young kids. And it will make us the first state
• 21:55
Speaker 8: in the country to mandate the use of soft shell
• 21:57
Speaker 8: helmet covers for practice from middle schoolers and high schoolers.
• 22:02
Speaker 8: It's a common sense bill, but that's the type of
• 22:05
Speaker 8: bills I think I've been introducing are bills that just
• 22:08
Speaker 8: make sense for families. If you look, all my bills
• 22:10
Speaker 8: have a constant theme, which is families and kids in
• 22:14
Speaker 8: the well being of the people of West Virginia. Another
• 22:17
Speaker 8: bill that we probably don't have time to talk about,
• 22:19
Speaker 8: the Joel Archer Substance Abuse Intervention Act, another bill that
• 22:22
Speaker 8: passed unanimously. And Joel is a young man who at
• 22:26
Speaker 8: twenty four and Stacy Archer, his mom, what a champion
• 22:31
Speaker 8: of our community in the area of substance abuse and rehab.
• 22:35
Speaker 8: But Joel, unfortunately, about twelve years ago, died from substance abuse,
• 22:41
Speaker 8: and she took her grief and started working incredibly hard
• 22:46
Speaker 8: in the rehab and treatment community.
• 22:49
Speaker 4: And I was touched by that.
• 22:50
Speaker 8: When I was the United States Attorney, I carry that
• 22:52
Speaker 8: wallet filled each day with the photographs of the beautiful
• 22:55
Speaker 8: faces the victims of the opia crisis. Those pictures hunt
• 22:59
Speaker 8: me in the dark of night, and I will never
• 23:03
Speaker 8: stop trying to fight to try to make their situations better.
• 23:06
Speaker 8: And what this bill does is for those kids above
• 23:09
Speaker 8: the age of eighteen, and yes, they're kids who go
• 23:12
Speaker 8: down the path and make a mistake. And there's no
• 23:14
Speaker 8: demographic that's not affected. It's black and white, and rich
• 23:17
Speaker 8: and poor, and every family is touched by this crisis.
• 23:23
Speaker 8: It allows a mom and dad or a loved one
• 23:26
Speaker 8: to try to use the mental hygiene process to get
• 23:29
Speaker 8: forced involuntary outpatient treatment. We tried the least invasive way first,
• 23:35
Speaker 8: but if they refuse, it allows us to take one
• 23:38
Speaker 8: last step to try to save these young people or
• 23:41
Speaker 8: save the loved one. There's no age limit on it.
• 23:45
Speaker 8: Who's gone down a path of no return if there
• 23:48
Speaker 8: isn't substance abuse treatment and rehab. And I believe in
• 23:52
Speaker 8: redemption and second chances, but I also believe that if
• 23:56
Speaker 8: I've been blessed my kids didn't go down that path,
• 24:00
Speaker 8: I've just been so blessed in that regard. But if
• 24:02
Speaker 8: my kids had gone down that path, I would want
• 24:05
Speaker 8: to be able to do whatever it took to try
• 24:07
Speaker 8: to save my kids.
• 24:09
Speaker 4: And that's what this bill does.
• 24:10
Speaker 8: It gives parents and loved ones another chance, even though
• 24:14
Speaker 8: they're an adult, to try to get them the help
• 24:16
Speaker 8: they need so they can go upon their path of
• 24:19
Speaker 8: recovery and redemption and being good citizens and hopefully good
• 24:23
Speaker 8: parents and good taxpayers at some point in their future.
• 24:26
Speaker 8: But this idea of broken families and the tragic consequence
• 24:30
Speaker 8: Every Christmas, every Easter, every vacation, there's not a day.
• 24:34
Speaker 8: These families don't think about what they've lost. It's both
• 24:37
Speaker 8: from the standpoint of the victim, that person who went
• 24:40
Speaker 8: down that path. And I understand some people say, well,
• 24:42
Speaker 8: they chose that path, but that's not the reality of
• 24:45
Speaker 8: this is these are a lot of folks who go
• 24:48
Speaker 8: down this path by no choice of their own. Sometimes
• 24:51
Speaker 8: somebody convinces them to try it, just try it once,
• 24:55
Speaker 8: and it's unfortunate. We've got to turn the corner on this.
• 24:57
Speaker 8: But we won't turn the corner on this if we
• 25:00
Speaker 8: approach it as if it's somebody else's family. It's all
• 25:03
Speaker 8: of our families. We need to embrace this. So whether
• 25:06
Speaker 8: it's the Joel Archer Substance Abuse Intervention Act, the Cohen
• 25:09
Speaker 8: Cradoc Student Athlete Safety Act, or the West Virginia Child
• 25:13
Speaker 8: First Act, these are all three big bills that passed
• 25:18
Speaker 8: the State Senate unanimously. I urge I do, I strongly
• 25:22
Speaker 8: urge your listeners to call the House of Delegates, urge
• 25:25
Speaker 8: them to take these big bills up so that we
• 25:28
Speaker 8: can directly impact the lives of West Virginians all across
• 25:32
  Speaker 8: this great state.
• 25:33
Speaker 4: Mike Stewart is here before we let you go.
• 25:35
Speaker 6: I want to talk about you a little bit, your
• 25:37
Speaker 6: potential new boss potential RFK Junior was in Martinsburg last
• 25:43
Speaker 6: week poking a little fun at our governor's weight. Noth
• 25:47
Speaker 6: has been said about that. You what are you hearing
• 25:49
Speaker 6: about that part of your life, sir?
• 25:51
Speaker 8: No, Well, listen, I think the media will take snippets
• 25:54
Speaker 8: and say this is unfair. But I can tell you
• 25:56
Speaker 8: that I spoken with the governor and there was no
• 25:59
Speaker 8: ill intent there. There was a conversation, it was it
• 26:03
Speaker 8: was all part of a larger discussion, and there's great
• 26:08
Speaker 8: relationship there, great admiration.
• 26:10
Speaker 6: I said that too, Mike. I said, we don't know
• 26:12
Speaker 6: what went on behind the scenes. And we had the
• 26:14
Speaker 6: governor on the on the Metrore News midday show with
• 26:16
Speaker 6: Amanda in earlier this week and he said, there was
• 26:19
Speaker 6: no no This is.
• 26:20
Speaker 8: A great relationship for West Virginia. I can tell you
• 26:23
Speaker 8: that the Secretary is great admiration for our governor and
• 26:26
Speaker 8: the people of West Virginia. I can tell you in
• 26:27
Speaker 8: all my discussions with Secretary Kennedy, he has great reverence
• 26:31
Speaker 8: for the people of West Virginia. Keep in mind, we
• 26:33
Speaker 8: played a significant role, a very significant role. Oh yeah,
• 26:37
Speaker 8: and the election of JFK Cada President, and you'll see
• 26:41
Speaker 8: him here quite a bit. He meant nothing, it was
• 26:43
Speaker 8: it was sort of just fun humor between these.
• 26:47
Speaker 2: Guys the media of course.
• 26:48
Speaker 8: Easy now, Well, I'm just saying we live in a
• 26:51
Speaker 8: period where people like to take small snippets, but they
• 26:55
Speaker 8: need to look at that relationship. It's very healthy and
• 26:58
Speaker 8: very good and it's going to reap great dividends for
• 27:01
Speaker 8: the state of West Virginia as we move forward to
• 27:03
Speaker 8: make America healthy again, make America great again. But that
• 27:06
Speaker 8: relationship between the governor and Secretary Kennedy could not be stronger,
• 27:11
Speaker 8: despite what people want to try to spend it as.
• 27:13
Speaker 8: But that was a good day, a great day for
• 27:16
Speaker 8: West Virginia, and there was no ill intent, and I
• 27:20
Speaker 8: think both parties took it quite well and they had fun.
• 27:24
Speaker 8: It was a great day.
• 27:25
Speaker 4: What's your status right now? Can you comment on anything?
• 27:27
Speaker 8: I don't really want to comment except to say I'm
• 27:29
Speaker 8: excited by the next chapter. I look forward to confirmation
• 27:33
Speaker 8: hearings happening, and I'm looking forward to finishing up my session,
• 27:37
Speaker 8: try to get these big bills for West Virginia past,
• 27:40
Speaker 8: and then I'll be in a capacity working hopefully as
• 27:43
Speaker 8: General Counsel of the Department of Healthy Human Services, where
• 27:45
Speaker 8: I get to try to play a role in the
• 27:48
Speaker 8: impact and health of families all across our country in
• 27:51
Speaker 8: West Virginia. But I won't I may be temporarily departing
• 27:57
Speaker 8: and working out of Washington. My heart, everybody knows my
• 28:02
Speaker 8: heart will always be here and I will be back
• 28:05
Speaker 8: often and regularly. But I am determined to hunker down
• 28:10
Speaker 8: and make sure that I do all I can to
• 28:12
Speaker 8: help our families. And that's been the sort of the
• 28:15
Speaker 8: dedicated portion of my life is to try to make
• 28:18
Speaker 8: sure at the end of my days, families are better
• 28:20
Speaker 8: off than they were when I started.
• 28:22
Speaker 4: I do the best I can.
• 28:23
Speaker 8: I don't always win. Sometimes it's like hitting your head
• 28:26
Speaker 8: against that brick wall. I do the best I can,
• 28:29
Speaker 8: But I can tell you what I'm gonna roll up
• 28:32
Speaker 8: my sleeves every day. I'm gonna work hard, and my
• 28:35
Speaker 8: intention is to do good and at the end of
• 28:38
Speaker 8: our days. I tell my kids this all the time,
• 28:40
  Speaker 8: that life's a series of decisions. It's they're all piled
• 28:43
Speaker 8: on top of each other, and some are good and

Speaker 6: e been slept, I mean since last night or at
• 32:34
Speaker 6: all fifteen minutes here?
• 32:37
Speaker 15: I wish I could have at this point, but we started.
• 32:40
Speaker 15: We were on the air somewhere around two before two
• 32:43
Speaker 15: thirty this morning and pretty much have not had a
• 32:46
  Speaker 15: break yet.
• 32:47
Speaker 6: All right, so let's talk about this weather system, because
• 32:49
Speaker 6: you know, we've had some heavy rain here in the
• 32:51
Speaker 6: charleson air of the last hour or so. But from
• 32:54
Speaker 6: what I understand, and maybe something changed since I got here.
• 32:57
Speaker 6: Maybe a little bit of a lull during the daytime hours,
• 32:59
Speaker 6: but I like, that's what and I even quoted you
• 33:01
Speaker 6: what you said on the air this morning. It's like
• 33:03
Speaker 6: a twelve hour window, you know. So those of us
• 33:05
Speaker 6: that were driving in this morning battling the rain and
• 33:07
Speaker 6: the wind and everything that came with it, as we
• 33:10
Speaker 6: head home from work this afternoon could be more of
• 33:12
  Speaker 6: the same.
• 33:13
  Speaker 15: Yeah, I think there's a real possibility that a long
• 33:16
Speaker 15: eye six before. It really depends on let me, let
• 33:18
Speaker 15: me start this. I'm saying, it really depends on how
• 33:21
Speaker 15: far north this rain that we have moves if it can.
• 33:25
Speaker 15: You know, at the southern edge of this rain, wherever
• 33:28
Speaker 15: it's located about two o'clock afternoon, anywhere north of that
• 33:33
Speaker 15: line is going to be just general rain and some
• 33:36
Speaker 15: rumbles of thunder. South of that line, that's where we
• 33:40
Speaker 15: will have thunderstorms fire back up, and some of those
• 33:43
Speaker 15: could be strong to severe. Because what we need in
• 33:45
Speaker 15: order for the atmosphere to rejuvenate is we need some
• 33:48
  Speaker 15: skies to.
• 33:49
Speaker 4: Dry up for a little bit.
• 33:50
Speaker 15: And so if you just look at the radar about
• 33:53
Speaker 15: two o'clock to afternoon and go, well, there's the bottom
• 33:56
Speaker 15: edge of the rain or the southern extent of the rain.
• 33:58
Speaker 15: Anywhere north that much, everything's fine for the rest of
• 34:01
Speaker 15: the after needing, but he wears south of that is
• 34:03
Speaker 15: something that we have to watch for. And all hazards
• 34:05
Speaker 15: are on the table. I mean, we've got flood warnings
• 34:07
Speaker 15: that are out right now because we got some creeks
• 34:09
Speaker 15: and streams that are up. But for this afternoon, anywhere
• 34:13
Speaker 15: south of that edge of the rain, we had the
• 34:16
Speaker 15: potential for help producing thunderstorms, damage to wing gus and
• 34:20
Speaker 15: you cannot rule out an isolated tornado or two.
• 34:23
Speaker 6: Talking to with Bryan Hughes from Storm Track of thirteen,
• 34:25
Speaker 6: and we had the tornado warnings, the sounds that went
• 34:28
Speaker 6: off here in the Kanaal Valley earlier this morning. At
• 34:32
Speaker 6: this point, had they had there been confirmed tornadoes anywhere,
• 34:35
Speaker 6: because I know a couple of days ago we had
• 34:37
Speaker 6: some in Kentucky, Pike County, Floyd County, I think it was.
• 34:39
Speaker 6: But anything even out of the Canal Valley that we
• 34:42
Speaker 6: know so far, what.
• 34:44
Speaker 15: We're looking at, what we will look at and later on,
• 34:48
Speaker 15: and you know, we've got phone calls that are out
• 34:50
Speaker 15: to various agencies. Is we got to look across southern
• 34:52
Speaker 15: Kanal County back down to Danville Madison, you know, that's
• 34:56
Speaker 15: where the storm really ramped up and across the mine
• 35:00
Speaker 15: just out to the west of there, you know, that's
• 35:02
Speaker 15: where obviously it's in the in that mind t try,
• 35:05
Speaker 15: it's one of the largest mines in you know, in
• 35:06
Speaker 15: the in the state.
• 35:07
  Speaker 4: It's o them largest.
• 35:08
Speaker 15: Uh. And so you're not gonna have a lot of
• 35:10
Speaker 15: territory that you're gonna find tornado damage just because of
• 35:13
Speaker 15: the nature of things. But there's a lot of trees
• 35:17
Speaker 15: that are down in a number of locations, hit and
• 35:19
Speaker 15: miss here and there. But if they're gonna find it,
• 35:21
Speaker 15: we're gonna find Danvil Madison over to about the Shillian
• 35:25
Speaker 15: Bridge e Spank area for any type of damage that
• 35:28
Speaker 15: would be a little more substantial. But otherwise, lots of
• 35:32
Speaker 15: crash cans are in your neighbor's yard, lots of trees down,
• 35:36
Speaker 15: some power lines here here and there, but it is
• 35:38
  Speaker 15: very sporadic.
• 35:39
Speaker 6: I'd hope to have you on the air to talk
• 35:41
Speaker 6: about the regatta today, but the mayor had to take
• 35:43
Speaker 6: your place because as I texted you yesterday, ask you
• 35:46
Speaker 6: if you were coming in to talk about the Regatta Entertainment.
• 35:49
Speaker 6: You were a little bit busy, and I completely understand
• 35:51
Speaker 6: that because you and Spencer and Chris and you guys
• 35:53
Speaker 6: do do a great job over there. So what current
• 35:55
Speaker 6: watches and warnings are we under at this time for
• 35:58
  Speaker 6: the Kanau Valley.
• 36:00
Speaker 15: We are under a flood warning here across the Canal
• 36:03
Speaker 15: Valley and that is once again because the creaks and
• 36:06
Speaker 15: streams are running high this morning. Now we do expect
• 36:09
Speaker 15: those that slowly, slowly go down, but you know it's
• 36:13
Speaker 15: not a lot of them. It's hit and miss where
• 36:14
Speaker 15: you get a couple of valleys where you've got some
• 36:16
Speaker 15: heavier rain. So that's happening. If we do get the
• 36:20
Speaker 15: atmosphere to rejuvenate today, you could expect a tornado watch
• 36:23
Speaker 15: or severe finitial watch this afternoon. This evening, we expect
• 36:26
Speaker 15: most of the activity to be to be done by
• 36:28
  Speaker 15: seven to eight.
• 36:28
Speaker 4: O'clock at the latest.
• 36:30
Speaker 15: Anything and any of the storms that fire back up
• 36:32
Speaker 15: this afternoon would fire back up around two o'clock. So
• 36:36
Speaker 15: two to seven, maybe eight o'clock in the latest will
• 36:39
Speaker 15: be the thunderstorm window potential. But again it would be
• 36:43
Speaker 15: south of where the what we called a rain shield
• 36:46
  Speaker 15: is located.
• 36:47
Speaker 6: All right, Brian, we'll be watching and listening as always,
• 36:49
Speaker 6: my friend. I appreciate you being here, and maybe we'll
• 36:51
Speaker 6: have you on to talk about Regatt at some point,
• 36:53
Speaker 6: but it's going to do your day.
• 36:54
Speaker 4: Job first, right, Yeah, I got to do the paying
• 36:57
Speaker 4: job first, all right.
• 36:58
Speaker 6: Man, appreciate you, buddy, Thanks a lot. I'm good meteorologist.

• 37:13

• 37:19

• 37:31
Speaker 6: and listen to it if you want to know exactly
• 37:33
Speaker 6: what I was talking about. But let's see Daves as
• 37:36
Speaker 6: a text or is it my imagination or when I
• 37:39
Speaker 6: was growing up here, I rarely heard the word tornado mentioned,
• 37:42
Speaker 6: and now it seems like every other storm. I'm about
• 37:45
Speaker 6: your age, so may just not have been paying attention
• 37:48
Speaker 6: when I was younger. Now I would agree with that,
• 37:50
Speaker 6: And I'm like, I'm not a weather historian by any
• 37:52
Speaker 6: stretch of the imagination, but very rarely do I ever
• 37:55
Speaker 6: even hear remember growing up as a kid hearing the
• 37:58
Speaker 6: term tornado as it. And I'm gonna say that it
• 38:02
