- 0:35what is going on everybody
- 0:36welcome to lunch with the
- 0:38Clydesdale we are back and
- 0:40better than ever it's been
- 0:43a week uh my apologies to
- 0:45everyone who started to
- 0:47look forward to this show
- 0:48um I was uh the lead on a
- 0:51project at work where
- 0:55I had a lot of meetings this
- 0:57week about because the
- 1:00launch did not go as planned.
- 1:03So as we were clearing hurdles,
- 1:06clearing problems and issues,
- 1:08more emergency meetings kept popping up.
- 1:13Yeah,
- 1:13the deployment ended up being half as
- 1:15big as it was at the start,
- 1:18but we made it through.
- 1:20Now my job is just to write
- 1:22up the documents to let
- 1:25everybody know what changes
- 1:26will be coming in a week
- 1:27when we deploy that live.
- 1:30But that's been my whole
- 1:31week for the last week.
- 1:36And my friend Holly could
- 1:38not have said it better.
- 1:39Meetings about meetings on meetings.
- 1:41Yes.
- 1:43Although most of these
- 1:44emergency meetings were
- 1:45much needed because we,
- 1:50for people who don't know
- 1:51what I do right now,
- 1:52what happens is we have a
- 1:55vendor who does all the
- 1:58coding of our system.
- 2:00They get a list of things
- 2:01that we need fixed.
- 2:03They say, hey,
- 2:04we're going to launch this
- 2:06thing to fix these seven items.
- 2:10Here's what it should look like now.
- 2:13My job is to then go in and
- 2:14test it all to make sure it works,
- 2:16performs,
- 2:17does everything it was supposed to do.
- 2:22And usually that doesn't go super well.
- 2:25Usually you get about half
- 2:26of what was listed and then
- 2:28you go back to the drawing board.
- 2:31And we do one of these a month,
- 2:34every month.
- 2:37So that's where we are.
- 2:40And I do the main deployment
- 2:47every third month.
- 2:49So that means I lead it.
- 2:50I pull together the team.
- 2:52I get everybody necessary to test.
- 2:55I do all that stuff.
- 2:56And then...
- 2:57We run the test and then once it's over,
- 2:59then I have to write up all
- 3:01the documents that go out
- 3:03to tell everybody, hey,
- 3:05we fixed these things in the system.
- 3:07This is how it should look now.
- 3:09And then for them to go out
- 3:10and then we have to test it
- 3:11in production.
- 3:12The morning it launches just
- 3:14to make sure that it went
- 3:16well there and that we
- 3:17didn't break anything else
- 3:19in the process.
- 3:23Not the most exciting job in the world,
- 3:25but hey, it pays the bills.
- 3:28we're excited about that so
- 3:32what's going on acr haven't
- 3:34seen you in a bit uh jade
- 3:36birch what's going on dude
- 3:38um jay birch working on the
- 3:41advanced judges course
- 3:42today I would love to hear
- 3:45about that um I I took the
- 3:51judges course every year from to
- 3:58last year I did not take the
- 3:59judges course because I had
- 4:02no plans of judging or
- 4:04doing anything like that um
- 4:07and then this year's the
- 4:09new you know the regular
- 4:11judges course and then you
- 4:12have the advanced judges
- 4:13course so I'm anxious to
- 4:15see if it's much different
- 4:18than what we've seen for
- 4:20the last ten years so
- 4:22anything you could offer up
- 4:23jay birch would love to
- 4:24hear uh what that looks like now
- 4:31And Jay Burch, correct me if I'm wrong,
- 4:34you're still,
- 4:37the one hole you have in
- 4:38your game is you do not
- 4:39have your L-one yet that
- 4:42would allow you to judge at
- 4:46semis or the games.
- 4:50Is that correct?
- 4:55So far it's much more in
- 4:56depth and correct.
- 5:01Yeah, I'm coming up on my expiration.
- 5:04My L-I I've had for ten years.
- 5:07It expires at the end of this year.
- 5:13So I have to make the
- 5:15decision with doing all the
- 5:18media stuff now.
- 5:19Is it worth me?
- 5:20I don't coach anymore.
- 5:21I coached from twenty fifteen to twenty.
- 5:26Nineteen.
- 5:28And then went into the media
- 5:29thing and then,
- 5:30but I still judged a little bit.
- 5:32Do I need to renew my L one
- 5:35or take my L two or do any of that?
- 5:44So I have to make that decision.
- 5:50Come judge the age group games.
- 5:52Pretty sure there's no L one
- 5:53requirement for that.
- 5:56I don't know what the
- 5:56requirements are for that.
- 5:58Um, but I'm betting there is not.
- 6:05And it's here in, uh, here in Columbus,
- 6:09we can have a barbecue.
- 6:11We could have a true lunch
- 6:13with the Clydesdale.
- 6:15Uh, I could get a brisket or something,
- 6:18put it on the smoker.
- 6:20We could hang out and do show live,
- 6:23live from the smoker.
- 6:25Um,
- 6:27Would love to do that.
- 6:30Have all the guys in here,
- 6:32have all you guys come over.
- 6:34Heck, ACR, it's just, what,
- 6:35a couple hours from Indiana over here?
- 6:39Man,
- 6:40we could have a good time at the H
- 6:41Group games for sure.
- 6:46For sure, for sure.
- 6:50Uh, we could even, uh,
- 6:53we could even make a Jay Birch, um,
- 6:56lean to, to do some workouts.
- 6:58And I got all my equipment in the garage.
- 7:02We could throw some barbells around,
- 7:05get pumped up for the weekend.
- 7:09Let's have a party.
- 7:16Um,
- 7:20So, so yeah.
- 7:22Um, what do I want to talk about first?
- 7:26So, uh, Carolyn, Jamie and I talked about,
- 7:29uh,
- 7:29the Annie Thor's daughter comments on
- 7:32Sunday night.
- 7:32We've gotten a good handful
- 7:34of comments on what we said, uh,
- 7:37on Sunday night,
- 7:41many people agreeing with
- 7:42Carolyn and not with Jamie and I, um,
- 7:49Truth, truth, truth.
- 7:51Ain't no party like a Clydesdale party.
- 7:53You know it.
- 7:58So I wanted to explain maybe
- 8:00a little bit further my
- 8:02comments about the Annie
- 8:03Thorisdottir thing.
- 8:07I am not one of those people
- 8:09that believe just because
- 8:11she won championships,
- 8:13she made a ton of money in
- 8:14the sport that she owes
- 8:16something back to the sport.
- 8:18She played by the rules.
- 8:19She did what she needed to do to,
- 8:22to earn her way, to make her name,
- 8:23to do what is supposed to be done.
- 8:26And I,
- 8:27I guess I just don't see it as that
- 8:28she owes something back.
- 8:30However,
- 8:33Now that she does have a
- 8:34name and now that she is an
- 8:36influencer and she
- 8:38influences a lot of people,
- 8:41when you make stands like this,
- 8:43especially political stands,
- 8:45I think you need to explain why.
- 8:49That was what I was trying
- 8:50to say on Sunday night.
- 8:52is that I just think that
- 8:53because she has a lot of
- 8:56fans a lot of people that
- 8:58look to her for influence
- 9:00she needs to explain why
- 9:02she's making the decision
- 9:03she's making I go back to
- 9:08um gosh back to the
- 9:10eighties probably when
- 9:11charles barkley did the I'm
- 9:13not a role model commercial
- 9:16um one that he has said
- 9:18since he regrets uh because
- 9:20it got misinterpreted but
- 9:22it made people think like,
- 9:25And what he was saying was like,
- 9:26I'm not a person in your life day to day.
- 9:30It should be your parents.
- 9:31It should be people you live
- 9:33around that are your
- 9:36mentors and the people that
- 9:38you look up to.
- 9:39But the truth of the matter
- 9:41is that that just doesn't
- 9:42always happen and that
- 9:44people do make decisions.
- 9:45That's why people get
- 9:47endorsement deals and
- 9:48sponsorship deals because
- 9:50they do influence decisions of others.
- 9:54And Annie is a two-time champion,
- 9:56multiple-time podium winner,
- 9:58and she's choosing not to
- 10:00do the Open this year and
- 10:01compete in the twenty-five
- 10:03CrossFit Games season.
- 10:05She was part of PFAA.
- 10:08They put out a statement
- 10:09that had three demands.
- 10:11She signed that statement,
- 10:14and then there's been nothing since.
- 10:17It's my understanding that
- 10:18she is no longer a part of that board.
- 10:22So I think because of some
- 10:24changes since that statement,
- 10:27saying that you have a
- 10:28moral issue and that's why
- 10:30you're not doing it is not
- 10:32specific enough to let your
- 10:34fans know why you're making this choice.
- 10:38And there's been a lot of rumblings out.
- 10:40Is it because you don't
- 10:42trust Dave anymore?
- 10:44Is it because you think he
- 10:45should be fired?
- 10:47Is it because you don't
- 10:48think they handled the
- 10:49Lazar thing correctly?
- 10:51Like,
- 10:51just tell me simply what it is and
- 10:54move on and I'm okay with it.
- 10:56I'm okay with you making
- 10:58whatever decision you need
- 10:59to make that helps you move forward.
- 11:03That's fine.
- 11:05You have the right to do the
- 11:07open or not do the open.
- 11:09I really don't care personally.
- 11:11But when you influence thousands,
- 11:14then I do think you owe
- 11:15those people an explanation
- 11:17as to why you're not.
- 11:20And signing a group letter,
- 11:22which many people believe
- 11:23was her statement, is her explanation.
- 11:28So much has happened since that statement.
- 11:33I just want,
- 11:33I just think that she says
- 11:36what it is and we move on
- 11:37and I would have been fine with it.
- 11:45Clock says the games
- 11:46athletes have been so vague
- 11:47and just about all their
- 11:48communication during and
- 11:49after the Lazar incident,
- 11:51it's not helping them.
- 11:52I could not agree more.
- 11:55I could not agree more.
- 11:57It's been what's made it
- 11:58tough for me to move on
- 12:00with interviews with the
- 12:01elite athletes in the space.
- 12:05Because I think if we just
- 12:10said how we felt and move forward,
- 12:12it would help with the
- 12:13healing process overall.
- 12:16And some people are going to
- 12:17agree and some people are
- 12:18going to disagree.
- 12:19And that's okay, too.
- 12:21It's okay that we don't
- 12:22agree on every freaking
- 12:23thing in the space.
- 12:25Let's just move forward.
- 12:27Have conversations.
- 12:29That's okay, too.
- 12:31Thank you for that, Ken.
- 12:38Lots of easy cop-outs this year.
- 12:39I agree.
- 12:45I think that the problem is
- 12:46that the PFAA has built
- 12:47their whole platform on the
- 12:50Lazar incident when their
- 12:52issues with CrossFit and
- 12:53everything that they have
- 12:54explained has nothing to do
- 12:56with his death,
- 12:58but other issues about not
- 12:59being listened to, about...
- 13:04Proposing things to them
- 13:05that they have not heard,
- 13:07on and on and on.
- 13:08And now because of the
- 13:13momentum of the Lazar thing,
- 13:16they're now hitching their wagon to that.
- 13:21And I am very much a fan of
- 13:24Brent Fikowski.
- 13:25Every time I've had him on the show,
- 13:27he's been a gentleman,
- 13:29and we talk at length.
- 13:32He has been a mentor to me post-show.
- 13:37But to then watch Hillers
- 13:40behind the scenes of
- 13:41Waterpalooza with Eric
- 13:42Afolo and seeing how little
- 13:47respect he got from Waterpalooza
- 13:51making demands about the
- 13:52warm-up area and that's
- 13:54supposed to be their
- 13:55partner they're supposed to
- 13:57be in a partnership and he
- 13:58couldn't even get a flat
- 14:00surface for the warm-up
- 14:02area like I I'm just I'm
- 14:05going off on rants here and
- 14:06it it's ridiculous but um
- 14:10but back to the anything
- 14:13She has the right to make that statement.
- 14:15I just want the why.
- 14:17I think that you as a role
- 14:18model and a influencer
- 14:21should tell the people why
- 14:22you're not competing this year.
- 14:25That's all.
- 14:26And then I'm fine with your decision.
- 14:30Ken Walters, but she's still benefiting,
- 14:31making lots of money off her members,
- 14:33using the CrossFit brand
- 14:35for a box to believe her stance,
- 14:37then drop everything about.
- 14:39Yeah.
- 14:40And I mean, I could quibble about that.
- 14:44And we made that statement
- 14:46on Sunday night as well.
- 14:48But in all in all,
- 14:49I really don't care what she does.
- 14:51Just explain to me why.
- 14:57I think many will not ACR.
- 15:00I think many will not
- 15:00participate this year and
- 15:01regret it when they want to
- 15:03just quietly come back in
- 15:04twenty twenty six.
- 15:08if anybody,
- 15:08if you guys have been following
- 15:09the show at all over the years,
- 15:12some of our biggest shows
- 15:13have been with up and
- 15:15coming athletes in the space.
- 15:19That's who I feel for right now.
- 15:21They have no place to go.
- 15:23You have the world fitness
- 15:25project that the top Tony
- 15:27athletes in the world have
- 15:29a signed contract with.
- 15:31And then everybody else has
- 15:32to kind of pay their own
- 15:33way to challenge for one of those spots.
- 15:37which is expensive.
- 15:39It's, you know, to make it to the finals,
- 15:41you have to go overseas.
- 15:44And now in the open, we've cut the amount,
- 15:48the field of the games from
- 15:50forty to thirty.
- 15:52And we've cut the prize
- 15:54purse because things like
- 15:57this with Annie saying, I'm not doing it.
- 16:00And if she influences a lot of people,
- 16:02we already see that it is
- 16:04affecting the open signups.
- 16:08If those open signups go so small,
- 16:10the prize purse is going to
- 16:11shrink considerably.
- 16:14And then those up-and-coming
- 16:15athletes will not have the
- 16:18opportunity that people
- 16:20like Annie did ten years ago.
- 16:25That's where I'm most upset about this,
- 16:29is we are taking away all
- 16:31of the opportunities for
- 16:32the up-and-coming athletes.
- 16:35All of the top ten,
- 16:37they're going to be fine.
- 16:39They're going to do their WFP.
- 16:41They're going to choose to
- 16:42do the Open or not.
- 16:43They're going to make their
- 16:44money at off-season events.
- 16:46They're going to do all of that stuff,
- 16:48and they're going to be fine.
- 16:50It's the up-and-coming
- 16:51athletes that are running out of options.
- 16:56And at some point,
- 16:59the sport needs to be
- 17:00replenished with those
- 17:01up-and-coming athletes.
- 17:09People love to jump on
- 17:10bandwagons so they don't
- 17:11feel like an outsider.
- 17:13And ACR says, I run away from bandwagons.
- 17:22There are some podcasts that
- 17:23will not have anyone coming
- 17:24back quietly in twenty twenty six.
- 17:29Explain further, please, Ken,
- 17:31what that means.
- 17:37Anyway,
- 17:42I hope that makes it clear my stance.
- 17:45Jamie's stance is much more
- 17:47staunch than even mine.
- 17:49Carolyn's is a little less
- 17:51staunch than mine,
- 17:53but it is my belief that
- 17:54all three of us are doing the open.
- 17:57At the last I've known,
- 17:58I don't want to speak for them,
- 18:00but I'm signing up for the open for sure.
- 18:03I believe that Carolyn is,
- 18:06I believe that Jamie is,
- 18:07but I don't know that for
- 18:09one hundred percent.
- 18:10Sure.
- 18:13Even though our stances are
- 18:15slightly different on how
- 18:16the anything went.
- 18:17There that that's kind of where we're at.
- 18:29people like Annie can afford
- 18:31to not do the open.
- 18:32Her box is still hugely successful.
- 18:34It ain't taking any money
- 18:35out of her pocket.
- 18:37No.
- 18:38And that facility is massive.
- 18:42Massive.
- 18:43The amount of people that
- 18:44she has there is... So...
- 18:52They'll be called out on
- 18:53their BS by the podcasts.
- 18:57I don't want to call it called out.
- 18:59I just want to understand.
- 19:01Like, I think if you guys,
- 19:03you guys have been with me
- 19:04long enough that I just
- 19:06want to know both sides.
- 19:07I want to know why, why the why.
- 19:13That's it.
- 19:14I know other podcasts would,
- 19:15will go harder at that.
- 19:18Um,
- 19:20I like having discussions,
- 19:21and it's okay that we have
- 19:22different opinions, but explain to me.
- 19:26I don't want one of the
- 19:26cop-out phrases to get you
- 19:29out of the conversation.
- 19:31I want to have an intelligent,
- 19:33well-thought-out conversation about why.
- 19:46I agree with you, Jay Birch,
- 19:47but we are older than most
- 19:49and wiser beyond our years.
- 19:53And yes, Ken,
- 19:55CrossFit Reykjavik is a
- 19:56tourist stop for any
- 19:58CrossFitter that goes to Iceland.
- 20:00And I bet you there's a good
- 20:02chunk of CrossFitters that
- 20:03make their vacation trip to
- 20:06Iceland just because of that,
- 20:09which is insanity.
- 20:11Cool, but insanity.
- 20:19So enough about the Annie thing.
- 20:22for today.
- 20:25Next up is is it's Super Bowl week.
- 20:29I'm super stoked.
- 20:30I love the Super Bowl.
- 20:33My first memory of watching
- 20:34a Super Bowl with my family
- 20:36was the nineteen seventy
- 20:38nine Pittsburgh Steelers
- 20:41going up against the Dallas
- 20:42Cowboys and winning Super Bowl thirteen.
- 20:45My parents were diehard
- 20:46Steeler fans are still
- 20:49diehard Steeler fans.
- 20:52My mom is.
- 20:53My dad has passed, of course.
- 20:58And I've watched the Super
- 21:00Bowl every year since then.
- 21:02I love the commercials.
- 21:03I love the halftime shows.
- 21:06For the most part, I will say this year,
- 21:09I am as much of a music fan as I am.
- 21:12I know nothing about Kendrick Lamar.
- 21:17Nothing about Kendrick Lamar at all.
- 21:19So I don't know what that
- 21:20halftime show is going to be about.
- 21:23but I have some favorite ones.
- 21:25Um, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,
- 21:29the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,
- 21:31the, the, the, the, the, Superbowl, uh,
- 21:33or two thousand six Superbowl forty one,
- 21:36which the bears were in against the Colts,
- 21:39uh, Prince,
- 21:40one of my top five artists of
- 21:41all time performed purple
- 21:44rain in the rain,
- 21:45which is to me one of the
- 21:46most memorable moments in
- 21:48Superbowl history.
- 21:50Um,
- 21:51What an amazing,
- 21:52amazing performance to do that,
- 21:55holding an electric guitar in a rainstorm,
- 21:59doing that.
- 21:59So that was freaking awesome.
- 22:06Now then, the Bears went on to lose.
- 22:08They were ahead at halftime.
- 22:09They ended up losing the game.
- 22:11And then I was devastated
- 22:14for a month straight.
- 22:19Corey's also registered for the Open.
- 22:22And, uh, Corey's got it dead on.
- 22:24Uh,
- 22:25Scott is super stoked for the super bowl,
- 22:27which is super.
- 22:28It really super lead do dishes is for me.
- 22:32Yes.
- 22:37Um, Kenneth,
- 22:38is he still formally known as
- 22:39Prince or known as Prince again?
- 22:41Well, since he is since past,
- 22:43I think he's formally known
- 22:44as Prince now forever and eternity.
- 22:51Uh,
- 22:53A couple other big halftime show.
- 22:56The Janet Jackson,
- 22:57Justin Timberlake will be a
- 22:58big memory forever for multiple reasons.
- 23:04It was the first time I
- 23:05really tried out my TiVo to
- 23:08see how the recording worked on live TV.
- 23:12Just to see all of that.
- 23:16And then the...
- 23:19the hip hop celebration from
- 23:22a couple of years ago with
- 23:24Dre and Snoop and Eminem
- 23:28and Fitty Cent and all of
- 23:30that was freaking amazing.
- 23:33Um,
- 23:34Katy Perry was an awesome
- 23:36show with Left Shark,
- 23:39the non-dancing dancing shark.
- 23:42That was big.
- 23:43My daughter was a huge Katy Perry fan.
- 23:46I've taken her to see her in concert,
- 23:50so it was fun to see that.
- 23:52As a dad,
- 23:55so many Super Bowl memories with
- 23:57the halftime show.
- 23:58But Kendrick Lamar,
- 23:59I really know nothing about.
- 24:03Oh my gosh, clock.
- 24:05The most enduring memory of
- 24:06Super Bowl will be Terry Tate,
- 24:08office linebacker.
- 24:09That is one of the best
- 24:11Super Bowl commercials of all times.
- 24:14All times.
- 24:16So... Kenneth,
- 24:21I prefer Creed's
- 24:21Thanksgiving game halftime show.
- 24:24I wouldn't prefer it, but...
- 24:27I actually was in
- 24:28Tallahassee as they were coming up.
- 24:31I lived there for four years.
- 24:34Um,
- 24:35and they were playing everywhere in
- 24:37Tallahassee when I lived there,
- 24:39they had not broke yet.
- 24:41Um, so they were playing like local bars,
- 24:44uh, beach parties.
- 24:46Uh,
- 24:47my wife and I saw them so many times
- 24:49before they broke.
- 24:52And they were the biggest
- 24:53band in the area at the time.
- 24:56And then when they broke and
- 24:58they went nationwide, it was insanity.
- 25:03And then they didn't come
- 25:05back to play because
- 25:06Tallahassee is so small.
- 25:08They would play Jacksonville
- 25:09or Pensacola or Atlanta,
- 25:13but they never really
- 25:14played Tallahassee after that.
- 25:18Or if they did, it was a small party.
- 25:22But Corey echoes the Terry
- 25:25Tate office linebacker.
- 25:28Yeah.
- 25:31I played middle linebacker in high school.
- 25:33I was memorized and tranced
- 25:34by the idea of running amok in an office.
- 25:38I will say that...
- 25:43With the way my job is going right now,
- 25:45I would love to don the
- 25:47pads and just wreak havoc
- 25:50in my office right now.
- 25:54It would be a fantasy.
- 25:58Bruce trying to rub more
- 26:00salt in the wound.
- 26:00Did you see Barkley was almost a bear?
- 26:02I did.
- 26:04I saw that,
- 26:04and Saquon is one of my
- 26:06favorite players of all time,
- 26:07former Penn State Nittany Lion,
- 26:09and that the Bears were
- 26:10really close to signing him
- 26:11in the offseason makes me want to cry.
- 26:19Corey Leonard.
- 26:20Break was over fifteen minutes ago, Mitch.
- 26:25So good, so good.
- 26:34So, yeah, of course,
- 26:35my favorite Super Bowl of all time,
- 26:37Super Bowl XX,
- 26:38where the Eighty-Five Bears
- 26:40won their first and only
- 26:42Super Bowl until Caleb wins
- 26:45us six more in the next ten years.
- 26:50But yeah, the Eighty-Five Bears,
- 26:52that was like magical.
- 26:54The characters on that team, Didka,
- 26:57Buddy Ryan,
- 26:59and then the players
- 27:00themselves with McMahon and Peyton,
- 27:02Richard Dent.
- 27:05It's...
- 27:07This is the only player that
- 27:10I was not enamored with,
- 27:12and that is the Fridge.
- 27:15I was such a Walter Payton fan.
- 27:17I wanted Walter Payton to
- 27:18get a Super Bowl touchdown,
- 27:20and when the Fridge got one and he didn't,
- 27:22it really made me grow a
- 27:24distaste for the Fridge.
- 27:28And, you know,
- 27:28he wasn't even a starter on
- 27:29the Eighty-Five Bears.
- 27:31the starting defensive
- 27:32tackles were Steve
- 27:34McMichael and Mike Hartenstein,
- 27:37not the fridge.
- 27:39And so he wasn't even a starter.
- 27:41He just did the gimmick play
- 27:44of running or blocking.
- 27:48And it was crazy.
- 27:52Super Bowl Shuffle,
- 27:53I actually have that on
- 27:54vinyl in my collection.
- 27:56I have the original pressing
- 27:58of the Super Bowl Shuffle.
- 28:01My buddy found it in a
- 28:02record store in Pittsburgh
- 28:05and got it for me.
- 28:07It is epic,
- 28:08and I need to get it out and
- 28:11play it a little bit going
- 28:12into this weekend.
- 28:14I do that every year, so can't wait.
- 28:19But yeah, tons of great memories.
- 28:20And maybe on Friday,
- 28:21we'll do a top five
- 28:22memories from the Super Bowls.
- 28:26As we missed top five
- 28:27Tuesday this week because
- 28:29of my work schedule.
- 28:31But the last thing I wanted
- 28:32to leave you guys with
- 28:34is something that may change
- 28:37the channel a little bit here,
- 28:39and that is that on yesterday,
- 28:43the governor of Ohio signed
- 28:45an executive order sending
- 28:48all state employees back to
- 28:51work five days a week in the office.
- 28:55There are exemptions to that
- 28:57executive order because
- 28:59they have sold all the
- 29:01buildings they owned where
- 29:03people were during COVID
- 29:06and saved millions and
- 29:07millions of dollars doing so.
- 29:09They also ended lease
- 29:11agreements with people
- 29:12saving more millions and more millions.
- 29:16And, um,
- 29:18And so I don't know the true
- 29:21effect of what this means.
- 29:24But I should know in the
- 29:25next few weeks whether I
- 29:27will be returning to the
- 29:28office full time.
- 29:30If I'm returning to the office,
- 29:31it's going to be a little
- 29:32harder doing this show.
- 29:35It's going to be harder to
- 29:36do interviews because I'll
- 29:37have less time where I can schedule them.
- 29:41It's going to change things
- 29:42on the channel a little bit.
- 29:46now what Bruce says here, uh,
- 29:50just do the show from the office.
- 29:52I, I am considering, um,
- 29:54I can do the full show from my phone, um,
- 29:57or an iPad or something like that.
- 30:00Um, so I am considering that,
- 30:03but I don't know what
- 30:04office building I'll be in.
- 30:06So it's all about what's,
- 30:08what's around me.
- 30:10Um,
- 30:11If I'm downtown, I could go outside.
- 30:15The office building that my
- 30:16unit is in right now,
- 30:18which is not big enough to hold us,
- 30:21is that...
- 30:23I could go down across the
- 30:25street and the state house
- 30:27lawn is right there.
- 30:28I could actually do the show
- 30:29from the state house lawn
- 30:31at lunch as long as it's not raining.
- 30:35So I could do that as well.
- 30:41I just don't know if I'm
- 30:43going to be in a place
- 30:44where I can get to my car
- 30:45or get to a park or get to whatever.
- 30:49I don't own a MacBook, Bruce,
- 30:51but I would have to use
- 30:54hotspot or I would prefer
- 30:57using an iPad or a phone
- 31:00with five G because the
- 31:01five G here in Columbus is
- 31:03really strong and I could
- 31:05do a pretty good show from that,
- 31:07but I could do it on my phone.
- 31:08I would prefer like maybe
- 31:10purchasing an iPad with
- 31:12five cellular service where
- 31:14I could do that.
- 31:17But it would be a bigger
- 31:18screen where I could see
- 31:19some more stuff and
- 31:20actually do the show more interactively.
- 31:22And I could even do interviews from that.
- 31:26Note taking would be
- 31:27different because right now
- 31:29in my podcast center,
- 31:30I have a couple of screens.
- 31:32I have notes on one screen.
- 31:33I have you guys on another screen.
- 31:36I could do that,
- 31:36but if I was doing it from a lunch hour,
- 31:40I would have to do it on
- 31:43paper or somewhere and have it with me.
- 31:46So I don't know what it means yet.
- 31:50I'm trying not to get too
- 31:51worked up about it because
- 31:53one of the exemptions is if
- 31:54your facility no longer
- 31:57exists because of cost-cutting measures,
- 31:59like ending a lease or ending a sale,
- 32:03you could be exempted from returning.
- 32:06Currently,
- 32:08what it probably means is your
- 32:10return date would just be
- 32:11pressed out a little bit
- 32:13until they could find some
- 32:15buildings they could lease
- 32:18and get us back in there.
- 32:20But right now, I'm just chilling out,
- 32:24waiting for the directives
- 32:27as to whether we are exempted or not.
- 32:31But a lot of people are
- 32:33going to have to return by March.
- 32:35Which is just around the corner.
- 32:37I will keep you updated.
- 32:40As I learn more.
- 32:43But I think I can pull a lot of this off.
- 32:46Doing a lunch hour.
- 32:48Kind of remotely.
- 32:51Lunch hour show.
- 32:52But I don't know for sure.
- 32:58My thing is.
- 32:58I get the concept of.
- 33:02that a lot of problems are
- 33:03solved when people come
- 33:04together and talk about
- 33:05them but the job I do is
- 33:07very um very singular very
- 33:12isolated um I don't even
- 33:15when I'm in the office the
- 33:16people I talked to at the
- 33:18time um I talked to over
- 33:20teams meetings um and I
- 33:23would do that even if I was
- 33:24in the office because we
- 33:27talked to vendors in
- 33:28atlanta we talked to our
- 33:29vendors in uh vermont
- 33:31Connecticut and Massachusetts.
- 33:35So that's who I deal with
- 33:36most of the day are people
- 33:38that aren't even in our state anyway.
- 33:42And then the teams that I
- 33:43work with are different
- 33:45units around the state,
- 33:46and I bring them into a
- 33:49Teams call anyway.
- 33:50So what I would be doing is
- 33:51moving into the office to
- 33:53have the same Teams calls
- 33:55that I have today with more
- 33:57interruptions and more
- 33:59noise because of the stuff going around.
- 34:02But right now, I just sit in my...
- 34:07dining room with no noise.
- 34:10I can have those without interruption,
- 34:14and I actually get more
- 34:15done at home than I do in the office.
- 34:25Federal employees in D.C.
- 34:26are whining about having to
- 34:28resume the life of a commuter.
- 34:30I feel for them but want to
- 34:31laugh at them at the same time.
- 34:34Yeah, I mean, I'll figure all that out.
- 34:36It's not like I didn't work
- 34:38in an office for, gosh,
- 34:41twenty years of my life,
- 34:42thirty years of my life before this.
- 34:46I mean, I'll figure it all out, but
- 34:49what's just weird is that
- 34:51it's lumping everybody into
- 34:52one category instead of
- 34:55being smart about it and
- 34:57why not save the money
- 34:59where you can because you
- 35:00now have the technology to
- 35:02have people work from home
- 35:03if it doesn't affect their
- 35:05day-to-day work life and
- 35:06they're more productive
- 35:07from home why just bring
- 35:10them in for the sake of
- 35:10bringing them in it just
- 35:12doesn't make a lot of sense
- 35:16Um,
- 35:17but it is what it is and I'll figure it
- 35:19out, um, one way or another.
- 35:23Um, because they actually, and this,
- 35:27and this is a reaction by our state for,
- 35:29because of the federal mandate, um,
- 35:33our governor's Republican.
- 35:35So he's following in line with Trump, uh,
- 35:38to, to do, I don't know.
- 35:44The only differences is in Ohio,
- 35:49our government cannot run
- 35:52on a non-balanced budget.
- 35:56The budget has to be
- 35:57balanced when you get into,
- 36:04when it's being created and
- 36:05approved and sent through
- 36:07the House and the Senate,
- 36:08it has to be balanced.
- 36:10If it's not balanced,
- 36:11it cannot be approved.
- 36:13The problem is they to go
- 36:15out and get all these buildings,
- 36:16they need to house everybody.
- 36:18Now there's no way to balance the budget.
- 36:20So there's no way they're
- 36:21going to have enough
- 36:22buildings for everybody to come back to.
- 36:25Now we're just waiting to see who that is.
- 36:28Andrew said they should do
- 36:29hybrid mix of home and office.
- 36:31Some people were working hybrid,
- 36:33but that was eliminated in
- 36:34the executive order.
- 36:35Uh, so that can't happen either.
- 36:37They were doing three in office,
- 36:39two at home.
- 36:41Um,
- 36:42But again,
- 36:42I think it depends on who you
- 36:43are and what job you're doing,
- 36:46how much you need to be in the office,
- 36:48and why can't we just go
- 36:50through the position
- 36:51descriptions and determine
- 36:54what position should be in
- 36:55office full-time,
- 36:57what position should be hybrid,
- 36:58what position should be at home,
- 37:01and do what's best for you.
- 37:04the state or the, or the country, right?
- 37:07Because when you're saving money,
- 37:09having people working at
- 37:10home because the technology
- 37:12is already there,
- 37:14that money can then go to
- 37:16programs and things to help others.
- 37:19And right now with the state
- 37:22of Ohio to bring everybody back in,
- 37:24you're going to have to rob
- 37:25Peter to pay Paul.
- 37:27That means money that went
- 37:29back out to programs are
- 37:30going to have to be pulled
- 37:31back in to pay for overhead.
- 37:35which wasn't there before.
- 37:37And so there are going to be
- 37:40programs that take cuts
- 37:42because the employees are
- 37:44going to be brought back into the office.
- 37:46That's all I'm saying.
- 37:48Like I said, I'm a grown-ass adult.
- 37:51I will figure it out.
- 37:52I will go back to commuting
- 37:53if that's what they want me to do.
- 37:55And like I said,
- 37:56I'll even try to figure out
- 37:57a way to do the show on my lunch breaks,
- 38:00in a break room, in a park, in my car,
- 38:03whatever I need to do to do that.
- 38:06But I just hate the fact that none of this,
- 38:11none of it uses common sense.
- 38:13It's just a big lump of, hey,
- 38:17you all need to be in the office or hey,
- 38:20you all had to be sent home
- 38:22or when it could really
- 38:23should be a mix of both.
- 38:26That is what makes sense for
- 38:28either the state or federal
- 38:29government and not just a
- 38:31sweeping mandate for everyone.
- 38:36Now I'm going to go on a rant,
- 38:39but too many times we do
- 38:41things because we need to
- 38:43be fair to everybody.
- 38:45Why can't we just do what's right?
- 38:48Why can't we just do what
- 38:50makes the most sense?
- 38:51Why can't we do what is the
- 38:53most economically viable
- 38:57solution to the problem?
- 38:59No,
- 39:00we've got to make it everybody because
- 39:02someone's feelings might
- 39:03get hurt that they had to
- 39:04come in the office and
- 39:05somebody else was chosen to stay home.
- 39:08That's the part I don't like.
- 39:11That's all.
- 39:12If you told me the reason I
- 39:13need to be there is X, Y, and Z,
- 39:15and it makes the most sense
- 39:16for you to be here in the office,
- 39:18totally get it.
- 39:20But when you just do a sweeping, sweeping,
- 39:24bring everybody back in
- 39:26because we can't just tell these.
- 39:29Seventy people.
- 39:30We have to tell all hundred
- 39:31to come in because Susie
- 39:34might get her feelings hurt
- 39:35or Jimmy might get his feelings hurt.
- 39:38It's just utter bullshit.
- 39:39That's the part I don't like.
- 39:44So that's what really, really upsets me.
- 39:49But again,
- 39:51I've got my head wrapped around it.
- 39:52I'll figure it out.
- 39:54We'll do whatever we need to do.
- 39:56And I'll try to keep the show going.
- 39:57But I just wanted to share
- 39:58with you that that is
- 40:01happening here in the state of Ohio.
- 40:03And with that means I'll
- 40:05probably have to report to
- 40:06work again at some point in an office.
- 40:09And I need to figure out the
- 40:10show and what it means from
- 40:12that point forward.
- 40:15So anyway,
- 40:18it's been a great show coming up
- 40:20to the end of the work lunch break here.
- 40:23So what that means is you
- 40:24guys need to get back to work.
- 40:26And so do I. So let's get
- 40:29back to work and we'll see
- 40:30everybody next time.
- 40:35Bye guys.
