- 0:14Speaker 3: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website.
- 0:19Speaker 4: For deals, buy a Toyota dot com.
- 0:23Speaker 5: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 0:27Speaker 5: at ji Lets Stadium, and we got a lot to
- 0:31Speaker 5: talk about a lot of it's good. Yeah, but it's Evan,
- 0:36Speaker 5: it's Paul, it's me, it's Deuce, it's Matt and the
- 0:38Speaker 5: booth and we are talking Patriots for the next two hours.
- 0:43Speaker 5: We're gonna get into it, starting with the game started. Okay,
- 0:49Speaker 5: ten nothing, What.
- 0:50Speaker 6: Might be the best start of a game? Yeah, that
- 0:53Speaker 6: they've had in at least at least in two seats.
- 0:55Speaker 5: I mean, I was thinking to myself, oh, this is
- 0:57Speaker 5: another London game, you know, seven thirty.
- 1:00Speaker 6: Five seven, you know, I didn't even think of that.
- 1:03Speaker 6: But yeah, but it's like Pittsburgh last year. Didn't they
- 1:05Speaker 6: go right down the field and scored against Pittsburgh last
- 1:07Speaker 6: year and that Thursday night.
- 1:08Speaker 7: Game, like but it just collapsed And I have a confession, Freddy, Yeah,
- 1:16Speaker 7: I was this close. Not I was one defense held
- 1:21Speaker 7: off though I was one defensive stop away from the NOD.
- 1:23Speaker 7: I looked at Mike and I said, if they stop
- 1:25Speaker 7: them again here, I think this game is old.
- 1:26Speaker 8: They didn't stop stopped.
- 1:28Speaker 5: We're going to get into a bit. I'm I'm probably
- 1:32Speaker 5: more concerned about I'm concerned about the play in the fields,
- 1:35Speaker 5: particularly from the defense, but I'm probably more concerned about
- 1:39Speaker 5: what's going on off the field than I am what's
- 1:41Speaker 5: going on on the field.
- 1:43Speaker 6: Yeah, fair point, you know, but we'll.
- 1:45Speaker 5: We'll get into it all opening thoughts, anyone, those are mine.
- 1:49Speaker 6: I always like to defer to Evan because Mike and
- 1:52Speaker 6: I do a two hour postgame show, which, by the way,
- 1:54Speaker 6: did unbelievable ratings.
- 1:55Speaker 9: I want to know why.
- 1:56Speaker 6: I'm told, you know, minus the interim host the pre
- 2:00Speaker 6: and post game show, we had Boffo Ricords.
- 2:03Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:03Speaker 6: No, actually, Matt was in all seriousness. I poke fund
- 2:07Speaker 6: at no socks all the time. He was tremendous on
- 2:09Speaker 6: the pregame show, giving us a little flavor of London.
- 2:11Speaker 6: Yeah and all that.
- 2:13Speaker 5: So I think those kind of especially the postgame show,
- 2:17Speaker 5: elicits that kind of game. Elicits a visceral response and
- 2:21Speaker 5: people want that outlet.
- 2:23Speaker 8: It was the highest. It was the highest since Mac
- 2:25Speaker 8: heard his foot coming off with the Ravens.
- 2:27Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:27Speaker 8: In that game, which was another one, Yeah, felt like
- 2:30Speaker 8: they wanted to come in with haste.
- 2:31Speaker 6: Yeah. I got a score of three point eight. Oh, Mike,
- 2:35Speaker 6: this is out of twenty two. That was the scale.
- 2:39Speaker 6: So Mike and I talked for two hours. We always
- 2:41Speaker 6: like to let Evan go first on Tuesdays.
- 2:43Speaker 9: I appreciate that.
- 2:44Speaker 6: Well.
- 2:45Speaker 9: I would just say first thought was, I was writing
- 2:50Speaker 9: game observations. I was writing my lead and I wanted
- 2:54Speaker 9: to say it in a nicer way. And then Girodmeo
- 2:57Speaker 9: just came out and called them soft. So I was like,
- 2:59Speaker 9: all right, well, I'm just gonna quote the head coach
- 3:01Speaker 9: here because that is, to a t what a soft
- 3:06Speaker 9: football team plays like. I'm not saying that the players
- 3:09Speaker 9: themselves are soft.
- 3:10Speaker 5: They played soft, but they played soft.
- 3:12Speaker 9: You can't run the ball, you can't stop the run,
- 3:14Speaker 9: you can't cover kicks, like those are the three boxes.
- 3:18Speaker 9: And this is not a Girodmeo thing. This is actually
- 3:22Speaker 9: a Bill Belichick thing. Like this is a football tenant
- 3:26Speaker 9: cliche type of thing that if you can't do those
- 3:30Speaker 9: three things at least at a competitive level, that you're
- 3:34Speaker 9: gonna get blown out. And that's exactly what happened on
- 3:38Speaker 9: Sunday if you ask me, you know, they really did
- 3:42Speaker 9: not control the line of scrimmage on either side of
- 3:44Speaker 9: the football, and they got beat up. They got their
- 3:48Speaker 9: butts kicked on the line of scrimmage. And if you're
- 3:50Speaker 9: gonna play like that, as much as Paul and I
- 3:53Speaker 9: like to talk about the run game not mattering in
- 3:56Speaker 9: the passing game being the more shiny thing of these
- 3:59Speaker 9: two things, that's football in its simplest form is let's
- 4:04Speaker 9: line up, let's run the ball sixteen straight times right
- 4:07Speaker 9: down your throat, and if you can't stop it, then
- 4:10Speaker 9: we're gonna get out of here with the double digit win.
- 4:13Speaker 9: And that's exactly what happens.
- 4:14Speaker 8: Yeah, the baseline of a functional football team is are
- 4:17Speaker 8: the thunks you're saying?
- 4:18Speaker 2: And I think the.
- 4:19Speaker 8: Point about the passing attack is true, because that's what
- 4:21Speaker 8: you need to be great. But if you can't run
- 4:23Speaker 8: the ball and you can't stop the run, it's it's
- 4:25Speaker 8: not really about winning games. That's just about the difference
- 4:28Speaker 8: between a five to six seven win team and a
- 4:30Speaker 8: one two three.
- 4:31Speaker 6: It's like the equivalent of the Belichick cliche. But you know,
- 4:34Speaker 6: we can't even get the quarterback to center exchange if
- 4:36Speaker 6: you can't just like be adequate stopping the run. No
- 4:40Speaker 6: one suggesting you have to, you know, like the Ravens
- 4:43Speaker 6: I think came into the game last night at allowing
- 4:45Speaker 6: like fifty five yards a game on the ground, Like,
- 4:47Speaker 6: you don't have to do that, But can you not
- 4:50Speaker 6: allow one hundred and ninety three, one hundred and ninety
- 4:51Speaker 6: two and one hundred and seventy one yards rushing in
- 4:53Speaker 6: three consecutive games? I think there, I think it's one
- 4:56Speaker 6: hundred and sixty five per game since Bentley got hurt, Like, yeah,
- 4:59Speaker 6: those numbers are unacceptable and you can't you can't be
- 5:02Speaker 6: that bad.
- 5:02Speaker 5: Yeah, and Bentley was the stalwart in stopping the run,
- 5:06Speaker 5: let's face it, but you can't be that bad, you know,
- 5:10Speaker 5: even with him out, even with.
- 5:11Speaker 6: You should be able to just scheme it up and
- 5:13Speaker 6: stop the other team from running at some point. Yeah,
- 5:15Speaker 6: not allowing seventeen consecutive run plays.
- 5:17Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean their linebacker play is tough to watch.
- 5:23Speaker 9: It's tough to watch, and I feel for guys like
- 5:25Speaker 9: Jelani Tavai, because I think Jelinaevia is a good football player,
- 5:29Speaker 9: you know, solid football player. Nothing, he's not in the
- 5:33Speaker 9: Hall of Famer, but he's a solid player. And he's
- 5:36Speaker 9: just swimming in it right now. And I assume that
- 5:38Speaker 9: it's because Bentley's not next to him doing a lot
- 5:41Speaker 9: of the dirty work that made Jelani Tavai good. But
- 5:44Speaker 9: he's now more at the point of attack. He's getting
- 5:46Speaker 9: attacked in coverage, he's getting attacked on the ground, he's
- 5:49Speaker 9: missing tackles in the hole. Like it's just it's difficult
- 5:53Speaker 9: to watch.
- 5:54Speaker 5: And you know, I would imagine offensive Cordnator coordinators are
- 5:58Speaker 5: looking at this defense right now in saliva because football
- 6:01Speaker 5: is a matchup game. Yeah you can if you can
- 6:04Speaker 5: scheme up the matchups, and right now there's a lot
- 6:08Speaker 5: of matchups to be had with this Patriots defense, unfortunately.
- 6:12Speaker 5: And these coordinators are smart, you know, and they see
- 6:18Speaker 5: what's going on, they see what's on tape, and they
- 6:20Speaker 5: see where they can get the advantages on these matchups,
- 6:24Speaker 5: and they're doing it.
- 6:24Speaker 8: And it felt like they've been one step ahead the
- 6:27Speaker 8: last two games, like one step ahead with the big
- 6:30Speaker 8: plays with no one to stick with the run, when
- 6:32Speaker 8: to get away from it. It's just and there's no
- 6:34Speaker 8: real feel of change in approach on either side of
- 6:38Speaker 8: the ball right now. It feels like what you're like
- 6:40Speaker 8: with notwithstanding with the first couple drives where it looked good,
- 6:43Speaker 8: but you felt like they scripted that stuff. And then
- 6:46Speaker 8: once it gets into the territory of all right, we
- 6:48Speaker 8: have to adjust a little bit. Now this is how
- 6:49Speaker 8: they're going to start playing us on both sides. There's nothing,
- 6:52Speaker 8: there's nothing. What you see is what you get from
- 6:53Speaker 8: that point on in the game.
- 6:54Speaker 6: Yeah, it started. I agree with defense because they just
- 6:58Speaker 6: they couldn't you know, they had the one stop up
- 7:00Speaker 6: on the first drive and then they couldn't really stop
- 7:03Speaker 6: him again and that allowed I think that kind of
- 7:06Speaker 6: served as a cool a cool off for the Patriots offense.
- 7:09Speaker 6: And I agree Mike and I talked a lot about
- 7:11Speaker 6: the script ev if I don't know, you know when
- 7:13Speaker 6: you watched it, when you did the review, it just
- 7:14Speaker 6: I mean, they had a good game plan in this game.
- 7:16Speaker 6: They I thought they had a good mix intermediate short stuff.
- 7:20Speaker 6: The touchdown to Hasty was you know, I think great
- 7:24Speaker 6: all around. I think they recognized the blitz was coming,
- 7:26Speaker 6: May was on it, got it out quick, Hasty does
- 7:29Speaker 6: a nice job in the open field of finding the
- 7:32Speaker 6: end zone. Like I just everything about it was really,
- 7:34Speaker 6: really good. And then all of a sudden, the other
- 7:37Speaker 6: team is possessing the ball and you can't get it
- 7:40Speaker 6: back and you go three and out, three and out,
- 7:43Speaker 6: pressure and out, pressure builds and I think a five
- 7:45Speaker 6: and out. I think they got one first down on
- 7:48Speaker 6: a Kisehon Booty pass interference and that was it. Like
- 7:52Speaker 6: they had really no first downs earned from the beginning
- 7:56Speaker 6: of the second quarter to the middle of the fourth quarter,
- 7:59Speaker 6: and that it's a long time to have no offense,
- 8:02Speaker 6: and during that time the defense was powerless to stop.
- 8:05Speaker 5: Jackson You had some stats about Jacksonville leading up to
- 8:09Speaker 5: this game.
- 8:09Speaker 6: Oh yeah, like this is I mean yeah, this is
- 8:11Speaker 6: not just a run of the mill battery. This is
- 8:13Speaker 6: not a run of the mill bad defense they played
- 8:15Speaker 6: on Sunday. This is the thirty second ranked the dead last,
- 8:18Speaker 6: thirty second ranked pass defense. That's the fewest amount of
- 8:22Speaker 6: points they've allowed in any game all year. Seven weeks
- 8:25Speaker 6: into the season. Sixteen is the fewest amount of points
- 8:27Speaker 6: they've allowed going into this game. The previous four games
- 8:31Speaker 6: they were allowing thirty five a game per game, per game,
- 8:35Speaker 6: thirty five per game, so not like skewed by one
- 8:38Speaker 6: bad game, thirty five per game over a four week stretch,
- 8:43Speaker 6: you got sixteen.
- 8:44Speaker 5: Yep.
- 8:45Speaker 6: And I actually don't have a huge problem with the offense,
- 8:48Speaker 6: Like I know, I don't because I look at them.
- 8:51Speaker 6: They're so limited with what they can do. They have
- 8:54Speaker 6: a quarterback making his second career start. He wasn't great,
- 8:57Speaker 6: but he wasn't the problem.
- 8:58Speaker 5: We got a guy.
- 9:00Speaker 6: I mean, I hope so, I hope so, but he wasn't.
- 9:03Speaker 6: You know, I didn't look at it and say, well,
- 9:05Speaker 6: they would have put thirty five on the board if
- 9:07Speaker 6: they had a quarterback. I didn't look at it that way. No,
- 9:10Speaker 6: you know, I think the quarterback was the least of
- 9:12Speaker 6: the issue.
- 9:12Speaker 5: They might have done a little better if they had
- 9:14Speaker 5: some receivers.
- 9:15Speaker 6: And and maybe maybe a semblance of blocking a running game.
- 9:18Speaker 6: And like everybody's all over Alex van Pell for running
- 9:21Speaker 6: the ball, you were allowed to get a couple of
- 9:23Speaker 6: yards when you run it, right, I mean it pathetic.
- 9:27Speaker 6: You know if they ran the ball twice in the
- 9:29Speaker 6: second half.
- 9:29Speaker 5: And you know, there's so much there's so many different
- 9:32Speaker 5: avenues we can go down here. But sticking on the
- 9:37Speaker 5: offense for a second, what's going on with this receiver room?
- 9:42Speaker 5: And I'm not talking about on the field what you're
- 9:43Speaker 5: talking about, but I think the off the field stuff
- 9:45Speaker 5: is blending into on the field. You know, Born basically
- 9:50Speaker 5: called it out and you know, talking about eating and
- 9:54Speaker 5: going out late and all this stuff. And then all
- 9:57Speaker 5: of a sudden, you know, Booty was it? Booty found
- 10:02Speaker 5: out that who found out that Osborne finds out eleven
- 10:06Speaker 5: o'clock at night that he's playing. Well, the reason he
- 10:08Speaker 5: found out eleven o'clock at night that he's playing is
- 10:11Speaker 5: probably because somebody was doing something bad that was supposed
- 10:13Speaker 5: to play.
- 10:15Speaker 6: And that's a fair argument.
- 10:16Speaker 5: I mean, I'm only guessing, but there's stuff going on
- 10:19Speaker 5: in that receiver And then you got Jalen Pope, you know,
- 10:22Speaker 5: showing his ass several times, you know, both on Twitter.
- 10:27Speaker 5: And who's the leader in that receiver room? Is it
- 10:31Speaker 5: Kendrick Bourne? Because if it is, you have to step up, Well,
- 10:36Speaker 5: you have to step up.
- 10:37Speaker 6: Yeah, I think he tried a little bit. You had
- 10:39Speaker 6: some comments to the Boston Herald to can okay.
- 10:42Speaker 5: Well, needs it does, but the comments need to be
- 10:45Speaker 5: to his teammates and he's got to get some help
- 10:48Speaker 5: from his head coach. And that's a whole other issue
- 10:52Speaker 5: with Gerad Mayo. Obviously, people are calling for right now,
- 10:57Speaker 5: you know, calling for his head after seven game and
- 11:00Speaker 5: I get it. You know, what's going on in the field,
- 11:03Speaker 5: particularly with the defense, is alarming. And you would look
- 11:07Speaker 5: at a defensive minded head coach for answers and there
- 11:10Speaker 5: are none coming. But with him, I'm more concerned with
- 11:14Speaker 5: the messaging and what's going on. How is he How
- 11:19Speaker 5: is this locker room policing itself? Is it policing itself?
- 11:23Speaker 5: Who are the people that should be policing it, because
- 11:26Speaker 5: it doesn't look like it is right now. It looks
- 11:28Speaker 5: like right now things are kind of getting a little
- 11:32Speaker 5: crazy with this off the field nonsense. And I'm not
- 11:36Speaker 5: getting a lot of confidence from the head coach. You
- 11:39Speaker 5: know that said, he's seven games into his first year,
- 11:43Speaker 5: and I'm sure you know Bill Belichick, who feels so terrible,
- 11:47Speaker 5: you know, for the defense, I'm sure he wouldn't have
- 11:51Speaker 5: liked it, and his first stint at Cleveland, other head
- 11:54Speaker 5: coaches calling him out you know, so he must really
- 11:59Speaker 5: have it out for Gerard Mayo for him to do
- 12:01Speaker 5: what he's doing, because that's not like him. He doesn't
- 12:04Speaker 5: do that the guys that he likes.
- 12:06Speaker 6: That's unfair Bill, Bill's hurt.
- 12:08Speaker 9: Yeah, no, he's really heard minus Christian barb or Jabriel
- 12:12Speaker 9: Peppers and Jawan Bentley. But other than that, yeah, but whatever, whatever,
- 12:16Speaker 9: what what he's saying might be true, you know, like
- 12:19Speaker 9: in terms of they shouldn't be performing this bad, but
- 12:23Speaker 9: all the other crap is just vindictive Petty's stuff. And listen,
- 12:28Speaker 9: I respect Bill, I'm grateful for everything he did, but again,
- 12:32Speaker 9: he didn't do this in Cleveland, and I don't think
- 12:35Speaker 9: he would have liked anyone calling him out in Cleveland.
- 12:38Speaker 9: I don't think Tom Landry, when he was winless his
- 12:42Speaker 9: first year in Dallas, or Chuck Nolo had one win
- 12:45Speaker 9: his first year in Pittsburgh, or Bill Walsh who had
- 12:48Speaker 9: two wins his first year and forty nine ers, would
- 12:51Speaker 9: have liked any former coaches calling them out.
- 12:54Speaker 5: You know, So you know whatever, you know, it's it's
- 13:00Speaker 5: he's drawd males having a hard time. It's his first
- 13:04Speaker 5: time ever being a head coach.
- 13:07Speaker 8: That's a lot there. I mean, I look, I gotta
- 13:12Speaker 8: I gotta agree with what you said about about Bill.
- 13:14Speaker 8: I just I felt it's kind of not portrayal so
- 13:16Speaker 8: much of my ochest of coaching in general, where I
- 13:18Speaker 8: don't really feel like over these past seven weeks you've
- 13:20Speaker 8: heard him really criticize any coaches at all, and then
- 13:23Speaker 8: he has.
- 13:26Speaker 6: He has an agenda against specific like the ones that
- 13:29Speaker 6: are doing great are the ones that are somehow connected
- 13:32Speaker 6: to him, tied to him, but specific to coaches? Oh yeah,
- 13:36Speaker 6: oh god. He eviscerated the Falcons in the Week one,
- 13:39Speaker 6: eviscerated them, like the point that you didn't block You
- 13:42Speaker 6: didn't think t J. Watt was going to impact the game?
- 13:44Speaker 6: How do you have him? Not? And he's destroying Kirk Cousins.
- 13:48Speaker 6: What did Atlanta do? Oh? They hired someone else, not him.
- 13:53Speaker 6: He's the epitome of a walking and talking contradiction. What's
- 13:58Speaker 6: good for him isn't necessarily a good for you? Do
- 14:00Speaker 6: as I say he is. Listen, he's the greatest coach
- 14:05Speaker 6: in the history of the sport. He's a fraud. He's
- 14:08Speaker 6: never ever practiced what he preaches ever, and that's not
- 14:12Speaker 6: new now that he's no longer the coach. These are
- 14:15Speaker 6: things that bugged me. And you know this, Fred, because
- 14:17Speaker 6: you used to argue with me about it because he
- 14:19Speaker 6: was ours and I get it, you know, he was
- 14:21Speaker 6: ours and we loved him, but it was always on
- 14:24Speaker 6: his terms. What I say today, well, okay, that matters today.
- 14:29Speaker 6: If can you imagine if a coach for somebody that
- 14:34Speaker 6: was out of work walked in front of his team
- 14:39Speaker 6: pregame on the field. That's a violation of the coaching code,
- 14:44Speaker 6: that's the sanctity. But it's okay for him and Matt
- 14:46Speaker 6: Patricia to walk right by Nick Sirianni, who was on
- 14:49Speaker 6: the hottest of hot seats right now because oh who's
- 14:52Speaker 6: rumored to possibly be in line to take over for Siriani.
- 14:57Speaker 6: We don't talk about those things, Fred, We have too
- 14:59Speaker 6: much respect, We have too much respect for the coaching profession.
- 15:02Speaker 6: He's a fraud, he's self serving, he's a fraud. He's
- 15:05Speaker 6: always been a fraud. Doesn't mean he's not a great coach, right,
- 15:08Speaker 6: but he's a fraud.
- 15:09Speaker 5: You know, sometimes to be great, you gotta be a
- 15:10Speaker 5: little weird.
- 15:11Speaker 8: The will after that, I'm glad you jumped in on
- 15:15Speaker 8: this because that was that was what I was kind
- 15:16Speaker 8: of getting that though, that was that was the direction
- 15:18Speaker 8: I was had. And it's just and it doesn't really
- 15:20Speaker 8: like Grod is struggling right now, and it felt like
- 15:23Speaker 8: piling onto me from him. And look, I mean, I
- 15:26Speaker 8: think Girod's gotta get out of his own way with
- 15:27Speaker 8: some of these comments.
- 15:28Speaker 9: He does comment a little.
- 15:33Speaker 8: Those parts of it too, but you know, to Bill
- 15:35Speaker 8: come out to be like, I just feel for those guys.
- 15:38Speaker 6: You know what Bill once said in Cleveland about his
- 15:40Speaker 6: own team. Could they rushed the game because they couldn't
- 15:44Speaker 6: run the ball the length of my bleep? He said
- 15:48Speaker 6: that in a press conference in Cleveland. Yeah, so you
- 15:52Speaker 6: think maybe you learn a little bit over.
- 15:54Speaker 5: The Yearsly, you don't think he learned from that experience
- 15:56Speaker 5: in Cleveland. You don't think he was criticized by the
- 15:59Speaker 5: way he behaved in Cleveland. Of course he did. Of
- 16:02Speaker 5: course he did. And Girod is learning as well. You know,
- 16:06Speaker 5: people are upset because you know, Robert Kraft anointed him
- 16:09Speaker 5: the head coach, which he did before. You know, you know,
- 16:14Speaker 5: basically any interviews, that's all true, that's all true, but
- 16:18Speaker 5: there's other things like, you know, I can't even get
- 16:22Speaker 5: into it. But hypothetically, hypothetically, you knowesn't sound like it's
- 16:26Speaker 5: going to be no no, But you know, everyone's coming
- 16:29Speaker 5: up with all these scenarios about, you know, Gerrod Mayo
- 16:31Speaker 5: having these one on one meetings with Bill Belichick while defensive,
- 16:37Speaker 5: you know, meetings were taking place with Robert Craft. I'm
- 16:41Speaker 5: sorry with Robert Craft, and he's late for the meeting
- 16:43Speaker 5: because he's meeting with Robert Kraft or whatever. You know. Hypothetically,
- 16:47Speaker 5: let's just say that, you know, Bill told I mean,
- 16:50Speaker 5: I get my names mixed up. Let's just hypothetically say
- 16:53Speaker 5: that Robert told Bill, hey, Gerrod's going to be the
- 16:56Speaker 5: next head coach. You can stay here as long as
- 16:58Speaker 5: you want until you break the record, but he's gonna
- 17:01Speaker 5: be the next next head coach. I'd appreciate it if
- 17:04Speaker 5: you took him under your wing. And let's say at
- 17:07Speaker 5: that point, hypothetically Bill iced him out. You know, so
- 17:13Speaker 5: now Gerard is like, here's my mentor, here's the guy
- 17:16Speaker 5: who they called me Little Bill because I learned at
- 17:19Speaker 5: his knee about game, you know, evaluation and film watching
- 17:23Speaker 5: and all this stuff. Man, I could have used a
- 17:26Speaker 5: little help from him to prepare me for this job
- 17:29Speaker 5: that he knew I was gonna get and instead I
- 17:32Speaker 5: got iced out. Yeah, well, what if that happened? What
- 17:35Speaker 5: if that happened? I believe would that explain why maybe
- 17:38Speaker 5: Mayo might have been with Robert Kraft? I don't know,
- 17:42Speaker 5: but like there's there's probably things that went on that
- 17:45Speaker 5: we don't know.
- 17:46Speaker 8: Oh yeah, I mean that sounds part of the course
- 17:48Speaker 8: for Bill. If he found out somebody didn't like that,
- 17:50Speaker 8: he would easily have no problem talking to him.
- 17:52Speaker 5: I'll go back on that. If he finds out that, oh,
- 17:56Speaker 5: you're making you're making a decision for me now all
- 17:59Speaker 5: of a sudden, someone he did like now is his enemy.
- 18:03Speaker 5: That's how quickly he would he would shift.
- 18:05Speaker 6: I may or may not have some experience in that department,
- 18:08Speaker 6: you know, and.
- 18:11Speaker 5: It didn't have to be like this, and now it's
- 18:14Speaker 5: a freaking mess.
- 18:15Speaker 8: And it's probably gonna be. I mean, nothing's gonna restrain
- 18:17Speaker 8: Bill from continuing this. I mean, he's just I mean
- 18:19Speaker 8: and honestly, like as a Patriots fan, I kind of
- 18:21Speaker 8: felt like I felt the first year Brady was in Tampa,
- 18:23Speaker 8: where I just kind of have to eat pooh right
- 18:26Speaker 8: now because he's there and he's doing well and you
- 18:29Speaker 8: feel kind. And now Bill is somewhere else and now
- 18:31Speaker 8: he's just lobbing bombs as Listen.
- 18:33Speaker 5: If if none of this happened and Bill got another job,
- 18:36Speaker 5: I'd be rooting for him, just like I rooted for
- 18:38Speaker 5: Tom Brady when he went to Tampa.
- 18:42Speaker 6: And I believe that, I believe that.
- 18:44Speaker 5: Grateful for everything Tom did and everything Bill did. And
- 18:47Speaker 5: if Bill went to another team, I would root for
- 18:50Speaker 5: him to do well. But right now and I would.
- 18:52Speaker 6: Just say, no, listen, no, I'm not I don't want
- 18:55Speaker 6: to separate these two things. I'm calling out Bill for
- 18:58Speaker 6: being disingenuous. Hits well within his rights to talk the
- 19:03Speaker 6: way he's been talking. I mean, I just think that
- 19:05Speaker 6: I'm seeing through it. It's this is all the stuff
- 19:08Speaker 6: that Mike Lombardi has said for him for the last
- 19:10Speaker 6: several years. Lombardi has been his bobo mouthpiece. Now Bill
- 19:15Speaker 6: is out of work, so he could just say it
- 19:17Speaker 6: himself and you can see all his agendas. You know,
- 19:21Speaker 6: what are some of the greatest or what are some
- 19:23Speaker 6: of the best run organizations in football? Oh, Dallas, Dallas.
- 19:28Speaker 6: You see what they have. They have everything. Any coach
- 19:30Speaker 6: that couldn't win. He didn't. He left this part out.
- 19:32Speaker 6: Any coach that can't win with all that talent that
- 19:34Speaker 6: they've acquired there he needs to go. Oh you think so?
- 19:38Speaker 6: You think who needs to come in? Everything is an
- 19:41Speaker 6: agenda for him. Again, he's well within his rights to
- 19:46Speaker 6: say everything he said, and he didn't say anything that
- 19:48Speaker 6: was necessarily wrong. Evan's right, he did conveniently, he does
- 19:52Speaker 6: what he always does. He always operates on the margins,
- 19:55Speaker 6: same players except for probably the best player, Christian Barmore.
- 20:00Speaker 9: Eight three of the best players.
- 20:01Speaker 6: No, I mean Barmore is like, you can't stop run,
- 20:04Speaker 6: you can't control the line of scrimmage, and your best
- 20:07Speaker 6: player on defense is a defensive tackle, right.
- 20:09Speaker 9: I mean if you think maybe that's your entire middle
- 20:12Speaker 9: of the defense is not there? That was there last year. Yeah,
- 20:16Speaker 9: Like that's the only part of it that bothered me
- 20:18Speaker 9: about what Bill said.
- 20:19Speaker 6: Well, I'll give you a couple of things that bothered me.
- 20:21Speaker 6: They were number one in run defense. No they weren't.
- 20:23Speaker 6: They were fourth. They were number one in average yards
- 20:25Speaker 6: allowed per carry, which is a different category. That's a
- 20:28Speaker 6: different stat Fine, okay, semantics, but again, margins. He operates
- 20:32Speaker 6: in semantics. It's always on the margins. It's always you know,
- 20:36Speaker 6: you know, we were better than you you really thought,
- 20:38Speaker 6: And I'm gonna I'm gonna, you know, like, what was
- 20:40Speaker 6: it you know in the Super Bowl?
- 20:41Speaker 5: Was it?
- 20:42Speaker 6: You know? It's a forty nine yard and I was
- 20:44Speaker 6: forty eight, you know, just because I'm gonna make the
- 20:46Speaker 6: decision look a little bit better to make myself look
- 20:49Speaker 6: a little bit better. He's always done that, and he
- 20:51Speaker 6: did that with that with with the stats yesterday, he
- 20:54Speaker 6: also leaves out conveniently, in my opinion, what was one
- 20:59Speaker 6: of the common denominators that I ranted about all the
- 21:02Speaker 6: time when people were talking about how good the defense
- 21:04Speaker 6: was last year that no one ever talked about. You
- 21:07Speaker 6: think it's easier to stop the run when Saquon Barkley
- 21:10Speaker 6: is the only thing the Giants have on offense that
- 21:12Speaker 6: day because they're not going to let Tommy DeVito throw
- 21:15Speaker 6: the ball all over the yard. And they had that
- 21:18Speaker 6: scenario about seven times last year where the other team
- 21:22Speaker 6: was basically like Miami was two weeks ago. And again
- 21:25Speaker 6: I'm not defending girod Mao's team. They couldn't stop the
- 21:28Speaker 6: team with a backup quarterback they could ran for one
- 21:30Speaker 6: hundred and ninety three yards with a backup quarterback. Right,
- 21:34Speaker 6: But let's you know, let's stop the enshrinement of myself
- 21:40Speaker 6: and let's call it all out. Let's put all of
- 21:43Speaker 6: the facts on the table. Yes, you were able to
- 21:45Speaker 6: stop the run when Tommy DeVito was at the helm,
- 21:48Speaker 6: or when it was a driving rainstorm against the Chargers
- 21:51Speaker 6: here in the offenses couldn't do anything, or the last
- 21:55Speaker 6: game of the season in a snowstorm. Yeah, you didn't
- 21:57Speaker 6: allow any running yards. That was a hunt.
- 21:58Speaker 8: They gave about one hundred and eighty one. That was
- 22:00Speaker 8: the only one that no, I know, I know, but
- 22:02Speaker 8: that was like the cherry on top of that whole thing,
- 22:04Speaker 8: Like the last game of the year.
- 22:06Speaker 6: If you can't do it, if you can't stop the
- 22:08Speaker 6: run in the scenarios that the Patriots faced, I would
- 22:10Speaker 6: say eleven out of seventeen games last year, then you
- 22:13Speaker 6: really stink.
- 22:14Speaker 5: And and a lot of this has to do with, oh,
- 22:16Speaker 5: I was so bad, but they signed all the players
- 22:18Speaker 5: that I brought in.
- 22:19Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, maybe they shouldn't have, but I've argued
- 22:24Speaker 6: against that.
- 22:24Speaker 5: Yeah. So yeah, we're like Patriot's Nation is in trouble
- 22:31Speaker 5: right now. I mean we're hurting. I get it.
- 22:34Speaker 6: People are taking shots as people aligning.
- 22:36Speaker 5: As opposed to what your guy says from from two
- 22:40Speaker 5: to six, Winning does matter to Patriots fans, even in
- 22:44Speaker 5: a rebuilding year. It does matter. How we perform on
- 22:47Speaker 5: the field does matter.
- 22:49Speaker 6: Are you saying that it's more beneficial or more enjoyable
- 22:55Speaker 6: to win the game than lose it.
- 22:56Speaker 5: I think so, Paul. I think I'm saying that. Okay, Yeah,
- 23:00Speaker 5: I think I'm saying that.
- 23:01Speaker 6: Yeah, that's that's interesting.
- 23:03Speaker 8: Yeah, Fred, I want to go back to something you
- 23:05Speaker 8: said in your earlier in your rant of just the
- 23:07Speaker 8: passive aggressive shots. Salvo's going back and forth between players
- 23:12Speaker 8: in the media, and you mentioned born. We had Godshaw
- 23:14Speaker 8: a couple of weeks ago. We got a quality Now.
- 23:16Speaker 8: These are things that are very disconcerting to me because
- 23:20Speaker 8: it feels this.
- 23:21Speaker 6: I would didn't happen a lot with Bill.
- 23:23Speaker 5: Yes, absolutely, like.
- 23:24Speaker 6: The criticisms like this didn't happen when bell Wich, That
- 23:28Speaker 6: to me is is accurate.
- 23:29Speaker 5: But Bill, but and but here's something And yes, Bill
- 23:33Speaker 5: set the culture, but his number one evangelist, his number
- 23:37Speaker 5: one soldier that sold that culture, that reinforced was Tom Brady.
- 23:43Speaker 5: You didn't want to let Tom Brady down. He was
- 23:46Speaker 5: a team player, So we need to be a team player.
- 23:49Speaker 5: And I, you know, I go back to what Dante
- 23:51Speaker 5: Scarnecki has said. I forget who asked him. Maybe it
- 23:54Speaker 5: might have been. I don't know who it was. I'd
- 23:56Speaker 5: have been at as an induction ceremony. When did you
- 23:59Speaker 5: know that you had a good team back in the
- 24:02Speaker 5: early two thousands, said when we became a self policing
- 24:06Speaker 5: locker room. You know. And that means that that what
- 24:11Speaker 5: story about, and that means that the head coach doesn't
- 24:14Speaker 5: necessarily have to be that enforcer all the time because
- 24:18Speaker 5: he's got the soldiers that do that do it for him.
- 24:22Speaker 5: Bill Parks and by the way, Belichick learned that from
- 24:26Speaker 5: Bill Parcells. Bill Parcells said, you have to have it.
- 24:30Speaker 6: All come to my way of thinking.
- 24:32Speaker 5: Bill Parcells said, you have to have your circle the
- 24:34Speaker 5: wagon guys when times are tough, when these are the guys,
- 24:38Speaker 5: whether they're Pepper Johnson or whoever, that are going to
- 24:42Speaker 5: enforce my rules.
- 24:43Speaker 6: And while not trying to like just completely be over
- 24:46Speaker 6: the top and defensive of Mayo and what's going on
- 24:49Speaker 6: what's going on, especially the stuff that you're talking about
- 24:52Speaker 6: off field, is unacceptable, But can we at least offer
- 24:57Speaker 6: the facts. Some of those circle the wagon guy, you know,
- 25:00Speaker 6: the guys that Girod wants to have circling the wagons,
- 25:03Speaker 6: are all the guys.
- 25:04Speaker 9: That got hurt, like Bentley the captain.
- 25:07Speaker 6: You know, those are the captains you know, And for
- 25:09Speaker 6: a different reason, Pepper's like, those are the guys that
- 25:13Speaker 6: you know, we're taking on water. We need help. Who's
- 25:16Speaker 6: gonna Who's gonna help us? Who's gonna step out right now?
- 25:19Speaker 6: The guys that are all playing prominent rule? Like why
- 25:21Speaker 6: why are these young guys talking so much? Because there's
- 25:24Speaker 6: no one There's no one there, right, there's no one
- 25:27Speaker 6: there to police it. And I do think it's I'm
- 25:30Speaker 6: not telling you that that's why everything is happening. That's
- 25:32Speaker 6: why it's gotten. Don't confuse me saying that one and
- 25:35Speaker 6: six because of injuries. I think that some of the
- 25:38Speaker 6: maturity problems in the locker room are due to the
- 25:40Speaker 6: captains being injured. That's not the same thing as I
- 25:43Speaker 6: think you'd be one in six regardless.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Yeah, but.
- 25:47Speaker 6: Some of the things that are happening off field I
- 25:50Speaker 6: think wouldn't be as bad if if they had the
- 25:53Speaker 6: Circle the Wagon guys. David Andrews, Joan Bentley, Jabrill Peppers,
- 25:58Speaker 6: those were circled the Wagon guys.
- 26:00Speaker 9: I was listening to to Ty Law. He's on a
- 26:02Speaker 9: podcast recently, and I don't remember which podcast it was,
- 26:06Speaker 9: but no, he was on podcasts and he was talking
- 26:10Speaker 9: about how during Scout Team him and Otis Smith started
- 26:16Speaker 9: running gassers sprints on the side field and back in
- 26:21Speaker 9: two thousand you know whatever, it was two thousand and one,
- 26:24Speaker 9: and a lot of the other defensive players started to
- 26:28Speaker 9: follow suit. But just like a couple of guys. Then
- 26:32Speaker 9: as it proceeded, Brady started running gassers with them. And
- 26:37Speaker 9: then all of a sudden, forty other dudes are running gassers,
- 26:42Speaker 9: get goose pumps, and.
- 26:44Speaker 6: I feel like this should be music playing in the background.
- 26:46Speaker 9: I don't want to put it on a twenty two
- 26:48Speaker 9: year old. It's not fair. It's not fair to put
- 26:51Speaker 9: it on him.
- 26:52Speaker 5: No, he's not ready for that.
- 26:53Speaker 9: I think, but he's going to have to eventually.
- 26:57Speaker 6: This is a great point though, Like back to like
- 26:58Speaker 6: the circle of the Wagon guys, add into that, you
- 27:02Speaker 6: brought in a veteran quarterback that you wanted to be
- 27:04Speaker 6: a leader, which I think he did a really good
- 27:06Speaker 6: job of. You can't do that as the backup quarterback.
- 27:10Speaker 6: And then to Evan's point, the twenty two year old
- 27:13Speaker 6: can't do it. He's not ready. He's I think I
- 27:16Speaker 6: think he wants to do it. I heard him with
- 27:17Speaker 6: Andy yesterday on we I here locally. You know, Andy
- 27:21Speaker 6: asked him some questions about I think that's something that's
- 27:24Speaker 6: very very much front of mind for Drake May. But
- 27:28Speaker 6: he's not ready for this.
- 27:29Speaker 5: Not ready.
- 27:29Speaker 6: You can't have the young quarterback getting ready to make
- 27:33Speaker 6: his third career start. Isn't in a position to fix this.
- 27:37Speaker 5: And by the way, whether it was Bill Parcell's teams
- 27:40Speaker 5: or Bill Belichick's teams, crap happened off the field, God
- 27:43Speaker 5: trust me, but it was handled off the field. It
- 27:47Speaker 5: was handled.
- 27:48Speaker 6: Do you remember the fight that McGuinness and molloy were
- 27:52Speaker 6: involved in, Sure.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Who is the receiver Brisbee.
- 27:58Speaker 6: Someone that foret it was at the timeline. I think
- 28:01Speaker 6: they like hit each other with a poolchu. They was
- 28:03Speaker 6: like all kinds of static. Hell yeah, early on in
- 28:06Speaker 6: the Belichick era they worked through it. Yeah, and these
- 28:09Speaker 6: were like leaders.
- 28:11Speaker 5: Leaders took control and they handled it internally. You know,
- 28:15Speaker 5: you've got fifty three alphas. Things are gonna happen. Things
- 28:20Speaker 5: are gonna happen. It's just it's just inevitable on every team.
- 28:24Speaker 5: It's how you deal with it that makes the difference.
- 28:28Speaker 9: I I understand what you guys are saying that he's
- 28:31Speaker 9: not ready for it at twenty two and as a rookie,
- 28:35Speaker 9: but just based off of the performance on the film,
- 28:40Speaker 9: he's their best player. Well and so, and he's the quarterback.
- 28:44Speaker 5: It's true. So let's draw the comparison to Brady, not
- 28:48Speaker 5: in terms of ability, but why did Brady earn the
- 28:52Speaker 5: respect of the players? It was in how he handled himself.
- 28:56Speaker 5: The maniacal you know, preparation and like on the field
- 29:01Speaker 5: during practice is when he earned their trust. And then
- 29:05Speaker 5: he earned the right to start telling other people what to.
- 29:07Speaker 6: Do and why because he was good, Because he won
- 29:11Speaker 6: because he was.
- 29:11Speaker 5: Yeah, he won right away when he started.
- 29:14Speaker 6: Have had all that other stuff. No, you're right, And
- 29:16Speaker 6: if they if every game happened like his second career
- 29:19Speaker 6: start when they got blasted down in Miami, if that
- 29:22Speaker 6: was the first four or five.
- 29:23Speaker 5: Probably right. Yeah, So winning is the ultimate disinfected.
- 29:28Speaker 6: He went, he went whatever it was was, it was
- 29:31Speaker 6: it thirteen and two, you know, as a what I
- 29:35Speaker 6: forget the numbers. Yeah, and there were two when he
- 29:39Speaker 6: took over, right, eleven three wins, fourteen and whatever. Yeah,
- 29:44Speaker 6: mathis hard. Fourteen and three and.
- 29:47Speaker 5: That I think, and that was as a starter. That's
- 29:49Speaker 5: the most discouraging thing about the loss on Sunday is
- 29:52Speaker 5: you know, they started out so quickly, ten ten nothing,
- 29:55Speaker 5: and you're thinking, Okay, this kid's going to get a
- 29:57Speaker 5: win under his belt, and he's going to get it
- 29:59Speaker 5: because he played well and they scored some points and
- 30:03Speaker 5: that's gonna help him. And the instead they collapsed.
- 30:05Speaker 6: That's where you thought it was going right.
- 30:07Speaker 8: Absolutely, he just looked so comfortable. To me, that was
- 30:09Speaker 8: what was so remarkable, Like just that kind of jump
- 30:12Speaker 8: in week two used to him, you know, just having
- 30:15Speaker 8: those plays and I think there still were ones where
- 30:17Speaker 8: you know, it felt like you drift a little bit
- 30:18Speaker 8: into pressure all that kind of like you know, the
- 30:20Speaker 8: sprays occasionally, but there was just a level of calmness
- 30:23Speaker 8: to him that like it just seemed to kind of
- 30:25Speaker 8: really grow in him into that second game, and that
- 30:27Speaker 8: to me was regardless of the ten point result and
- 30:30Speaker 8: the plays. It was just his kind of demeanor out there.
- 30:32Speaker 8: It's just like this kid's really kind of growing into
- 30:34Speaker 8: the spot. That to me was what was mostly.
- 30:36Speaker 6: Someone asked us in the pregame, you know, what are
- 30:38Speaker 6: you looking to see in his second start? And all
- 30:42Speaker 6: the only things that I cared about it was how
- 30:45Speaker 6: he looked, like, does he look more settled in the pocket,
- 30:48Speaker 6: especially early in the game, because I thought at times
- 30:50Speaker 6: against Houston, especially early, he looked nervous. He talked about
- 30:54Speaker 6: being nervous, but I thought he looked a little bit
- 30:56Speaker 6: nervous and unsettled and unsure. I didn't see any signs
- 30:59Speaker 6: of any of that in this game. Now again played
- 31:04Speaker 6: against a vastly inferior opponent in this game. But I
- 31:08Speaker 6: don't care. He's making his second career start. I'm only
- 31:12Speaker 6: evaluating him, not all the other stuff. And I thought
- 31:16Speaker 6: he looked better in this game. The performance was roughly
- 31:21Speaker 6: the same. I mean through three quarters that he didn't produce,
- 31:24Speaker 6: they didn't move the ball enough, and then in the
- 31:26Speaker 6: fourth quarter, you know, he gets something going again like
- 31:30Speaker 6: he did against Houston. But I thought this was a
- 31:33Speaker 6: much more settled I agree with Mike. I just thought
- 31:35Speaker 6: he looked he looked in complete control in that first drive,
- 31:39Speaker 6: like they didn't score because they were handing the ball
- 31:43Speaker 6: off or because the other team completely screwed up. They
- 31:46Speaker 6: were just like regular Patriots played regular NFL plays, right
- 31:53Speaker 6: down the field, eleven of them. Yeah, right down the
- 31:56Speaker 6: field eleven.
- 31:56Speaker 5: But it was pretty you know, as the game, you know, progressed,
- 32:01Speaker 5: it was evident that they weren't going to be able
- 32:03Speaker 5: to run the ball, you know, so that hurt, that
- 32:06Speaker 5: hurt in the play calling, and you know, I'm sure
- 32:10Speaker 5: Van Pelt realized that and Mayle realized we just can't
- 32:13Speaker 5: run the ball today, and he just couldn't stay on
- 32:16Speaker 5: the field.
- 32:17Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean, look, I thought that just watching it
- 32:20Speaker 9: back to me, he played better than he did against Houston,
- 32:24Speaker 9: But it was more so that what's Paul's talking about
- 32:28Speaker 9: that so much of what, so much of what he
- 32:31Speaker 9: is doing is in structure, Like it's within the framework
- 32:34Speaker 9: of the offense. He's making throws on time from the pocket,
- 32:39Speaker 9: and it's not all the playground stuff. It's not all
- 32:42Speaker 9: him running around and just being an athlete and flashing
- 32:45Speaker 9: these you know, off script plays. If that's all it
- 32:48Speaker 9: was was the second thing. Then I wouldn't be as impressed,
- 32:51Speaker 9: but the fact that he's running the offense the way
- 32:54Speaker 9: that he's running it so far, it is like vastly
- 32:57Speaker 9: ahead of where some of the comps that have been
- 32:59Speaker 9: for him, like a Josh Allen or something.
- 33:01Speaker 5: Like that, and two big plays, I mean the past
- 33:04Speaker 5: the booty was right on the button.
- 33:07Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 33:07Speaker 9: Yeah, they have seven explosives through two games. They had
- 33:10Speaker 9: six through five before uh he got in there and
- 33:13Speaker 9: started at quarterbacks. So he's he's been really just showing
- 33:19Speaker 9: a lot of that instructure stuff that you see, you know,
- 33:22Speaker 9: coverage reads, blitz pressures, manipulating defenses with his eyes and
- 33:27Speaker 9: pump fakes and lookoffs and things like that. Like those
- 33:30Speaker 9: are all nuanced things that he's doing at a at
- 33:34Speaker 9: a really high level already out of the gate. I mean,
- 33:37Speaker 9: the one criticism that I would just have him his accuracy,
- 33:40Speaker 9: you know, like every game he you know, both games,
- 33:43Speaker 9: I would say he's got between the two probably ten
- 33:46Speaker 9: to twelve sprays where he's just flat out missing and
- 33:50Speaker 9: open receiver.
- 33:51Speaker 6: And you do wonder that third down that led to
- 33:53Speaker 6: the field goal on the second drive, you know, he
- 33:56Speaker 6: has born there did get a little pressure, but like
- 34:00Speaker 6: that might be an example, it was a little out
- 34:01Speaker 6: in front of him. I thought Bourne could have had it.
- 34:04Speaker 6: But it wasn't a great throw. Didn't really come out
- 34:06Speaker 6: great either. It looked like it was kind of wobbly
- 34:08Speaker 6: when it came out. But you know, if it's fourteen
- 34:10Speaker 6: nothing instead of ten nothing, you wonder if maybe that
- 34:13Speaker 6: was enough to make Jacksonville stop. And maybe there were
- 34:16Speaker 6: a couple he threw to them that they didn't catch
- 34:19Speaker 6: in this game. So it wasn't It wasn't perfect, no,
- 34:23Speaker 6: I mean the two that should have been picked off,
- 34:26Speaker 6: and both were flat out drops on the interception and
- 34:29Speaker 6: dropped interceptions, and I didn't really see those against Houston,
- 34:34Speaker 6: like I thought he hadn't the overthrow that was obvious,
- 34:37Speaker 6: you know, and they and they caught it. And then
- 34:38Speaker 6: the deflection was an unbelievable play by the guy who
- 34:41Speaker 6: caught that. I forget who was twenty three. I think
- 34:44Speaker 6: for Houston that caught the the deflected interception in this game,
- 34:48Speaker 6: he was he was more fortunate that they didn't they
- 34:51Speaker 6: didn't catch them. But I agree with with Evan and Mike.
- 34:54Speaker 6: I thought just watching it and looking at him forget
- 34:57Speaker 6: about the performance, forget about the numbers or anything like.
- 35:00Speaker 6: Just watching him operate the offense, this looked more conventional
- 35:04Speaker 6: to me than Houston did.
- 35:06Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean they've ran one play in particular that
- 35:10Speaker 9: he's now hit three different ways. You know, he's hit
- 35:13Speaker 9: three different reads within the same play over the last
- 35:16Speaker 9: two weeks. Like those are the types of things that
- 35:19Speaker 9: young quarterbacks don't typically do. You either, see, oh, my
- 35:23Speaker 9: initial read is getting open consistently, so I'm just making
- 35:25Speaker 9: first red throws or you're seeing playground, you know, off script,
- 35:29Speaker 9: running around like a chicken with the head cut off
- 35:31Speaker 9: and making a play happen. Just because you're a superior
- 35:34Speaker 9: athlete on the field, You know, he's really seen the
- 35:37Speaker 9: field very well. I just in the accuracy stuff, to
- 35:40Speaker 9: me is going to have to be worked out over
- 35:43Speaker 9: the time and probably in the off season. The throwing
- 35:46Speaker 9: motion is still a little bit long. If they tightened
- 35:48Speaker 9: that up, there's less like movement in his throwing motion.
- 35:51Speaker 9: That's less room for error there, and his feet can
- 35:54Speaker 9: get a little bit sloppy at times still as well.
- 35:56Speaker 9: But that type of stuff is going to have to
- 35:58Speaker 9: be drilled into him.
- 36:00Speaker 6: So that's the silver lining because I think we all
- 36:04Speaker 6: went into the season kind of knowing that the record
- 36:06Speaker 6: probably wasn't going to be what we wanted. But can
- 36:08Speaker 6: we get some development of Drake May? And I think
- 36:11Speaker 6: at least you're getting the startup.
- 36:13Speaker 9: It's incredible that he's been this good while all this
- 36:17Speaker 9: chaos is going on around him. And that's why I
- 36:19Speaker 9: said the twenty two year old, like he's the one
- 36:21Speaker 9: guy that's actually pulling his weight on in the team,
- 36:24Speaker 9: and he's the youngest player on the roster, Like, it's
- 36:27Speaker 9: absolutely crazy.
- 36:28Speaker 6: It sits around.
- 36:29Speaker 8: You spend all summer thinking the team is one thing,
- 36:31Speaker 8: and then all of a sudden, here we are, Week
- 36:32Speaker 8: seven eight and it's all on the kid somehow. I
- 36:36Speaker 8: just want another piece, Like someone else, Can someone else
- 36:38Speaker 8: start to play well? Can someone else start to inspire
- 36:41Speaker 8: some excitement other than Drake May? Because that's to me
- 36:44Speaker 8: coming out of that game. We can all get excited
- 36:46Speaker 8: about Drake May's first quarter, But what else do you
- 36:49Speaker 8: feel good about right now?
- 36:50Speaker 5: I think Henry's playing fine.
- 36:52Speaker 6: Under Henry, Henry's been solid.
- 36:54Speaker 8: Yeah, I just need some of these rookies to play.
- 36:56Speaker 8: I mean, Jalen Polk is such a head scratcher to me.
- 36:58Speaker 8: I just I can't figure. I've never seen someone looks
- 37:00Speaker 8: so in their own head and then just to see
- 37:02Speaker 8: it pick right up in the game again after we
- 37:05Speaker 8: spent all week talking.
- 37:06Speaker 5: I've never seen anyone so in his own head, lacking
- 37:09Speaker 5: so much humility.
- 37:10Speaker 6: Yeah, how about.
- 37:11Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, awareness, self awareness, self awareness.
- 37:16Speaker 9: Yeah, I didn't looking back at the targets like drop
- 37:21Speaker 9: is it's all, it's all subjected.
- 37:24Speaker 6: The second one is, if that was any other receiver,
- 37:27Speaker 6: no one would call it a drop.
- 37:28Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 37:28Speaker 6: The throw was late, it was short, and it allowed
- 37:30Speaker 6: the guy time to come over and break it up.
- 37:32Speaker 6: Yeah that was not a drop.
- 37:33Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, I agree. And just the other thing I
- 37:36Speaker 9: would say about the defense, And I'm sure that Mayo
- 37:40Speaker 9: would feel that it's execution based errors. But if I
- 37:45Speaker 9: was Girod Mayo and it's his team, so run it
- 37:47Speaker 9: the way you want to. But if I was him,
- 37:49Speaker 9: I would consider taking over the defense myself. I think
- 37:53Speaker 9: at this point, you have to get one side of
- 37:56Speaker 9: the ball buttoned up. You are a defensive minded head coach.
- 38:00Speaker 9: It's nothing against de Marcus Covington, but he's also a
- 38:03Speaker 9: very young coach. That's doing this for the first time,
- 38:06Speaker 9: and he's still going to be the defensive coordinator. And
- 38:08Speaker 9: there are plenty of defensive coordinators and offensive coordinators who
- 38:12Speaker 9: don't call the plays because their head coach calls the plays.
- 38:15Speaker 9: So if I was Jirowed Mayo, I would strongly consider
- 38:18Speaker 9: taking over the defense.
- 38:19Speaker 5: I wonder if he's got the chops to do it.
- 38:21Speaker 6: Do you think it's a play calling issue.
- 38:24Speaker 9: It's not solely a play calling issue. It's obviously a
- 38:27Speaker 9: combination of a bunch of different things. But I don't
- 38:31Speaker 9: think the play calling is free of blame for what's
- 38:34Speaker 9: going on.
- 38:34Speaker 5: At the very least, I would love for him, you know,
- 38:39Speaker 5: at certain parts of the game to be with the
- 38:41Speaker 5: defense on the sideline and come off, you know, and
- 38:44Speaker 5: talk about to.
- 38:45Speaker 6: Admit, I think that sometimes Bill would turn.
- 38:48Speaker 5: Around and when he felt he had to do it,
- 38:52Speaker 5: he'd get in their faces and you know, point out
- 38:55Speaker 5: some things that he's seeing. And I think when it
- 38:58Speaker 5: comes to in the game, that's the one place where
- 39:02Speaker 5: Gerard could contribute.
- 39:03Speaker 9: Yeah, I know, I just haven't loved it from the
- 39:06Speaker 9: beginning that he was going to try to be a
- 39:09Speaker 9: CEO head coach because, like you have to have some
- 39:12Speaker 9: self awareness, right, Like Bill Belichick was a CEO head
- 39:16Speaker 9: coach because he coached in the league for fifty years
- 39:19Speaker 9: and he had a rolladex of knowledge to go back on,
- 39:22Speaker 9: to pull from, to contribute to an offensive meeting or
- 39:25Speaker 9: contribute to a special teams meeting. Like Girod. Mayo's strength
- 39:29Speaker 9: is on the defensive side of the ball, same way
- 39:32Speaker 9: as like Demico Ryans in Houston is a defensive minded coach,
- 39:36Speaker 9: the same way as all the tight pant guys are
- 39:39Speaker 9: offensive minded head coaches, and they're running their offense like
- 39:42Speaker 9: even Andy Reid, like Steve Spagnolo is running Kansas City's defense,
- 39:46Speaker 9: Like Andy Reid has nothing to do with that defense.
- 39:49Speaker 6: No, but he he does the offense right. And to
- 39:51Speaker 6: your point, Mayo's a defensive guy. There's nothing wrong with
- 39:54Speaker 6: being a head coach with a slant on one side
- 39:58Speaker 6: or the other. And he should be able to fix something.
- 40:00Speaker 9: I look at like Sean McVay when he started out
- 40:03Speaker 9: with the Rams. Sean McVay hired Wade Phillips yep to
- 40:06Speaker 9: run his defense, and he said to Wade Phillips, you
- 40:09Speaker 9: are head coach defense, Like I'm going to run the offense.
- 40:12Speaker 9: I'm going to run the culture and you're going to
- 40:14Speaker 9: run the defense. And if I was Girrawed, I would say,
- 40:17Speaker 9: I'm going to run the defense. I'm going to run
- 40:19Speaker 9: the culture, and a VP is going to run the offense.
- 40:21Speaker 9: I think that's what he well expense.
- 40:24Speaker 6: He hasn't done the defense, but he hasn't done a defense.
- 40:26Speaker 2: That's why.
- 40:26Speaker 8: I mean, it's it sounds nice, but sometimes it's is
- 40:30Speaker 8: that going to make a difference? Like why should I
- 40:31Speaker 8: believe that he has the ability.
- 40:33Speaker 5: To do it?
- 40:34Speaker 6: You know?
- 40:34Speaker 8: And that's that's a great Unfortunately, when you get to
- 40:36Speaker 8: a point where a coach, who, let's face it, he
- 40:38Speaker 8: hasn't coached the football team before this year, and he
- 40:40Speaker 8: doesn't have the fall back on While I was an
- 40:42Speaker 8: offensive coordinator for the last six years, I know what
- 40:44Speaker 8: I'm doing there, Like him jumping into the defensive coordinator
- 40:48Speaker 8: role is every bit of an unknown as anybody else
- 40:51Speaker 8: doing it. And that's I don't.
- 40:53Speaker 5: At least he helped run it with Steve last year.
- 40:55Speaker 9: I mean, he's done a lot of the things, like
- 40:57Speaker 9: on a day to day basis that a defensive coordinator
- 41:00Speaker 9: would do in the past. I just I look at
- 41:02Speaker 9: your odd right now, and I feel like he's taken
- 41:04Speaker 9: on water because he stretched really really thin. Like he
- 41:08Speaker 9: has a lot of responsibilities and he has his hand
- 41:10Speaker 9: in a lot of different buckets, and I don't look
- 41:13Speaker 9: at like he's not a white right now, like what
- 41:16Speaker 9: is what are they good at? And what is he
- 41:19Speaker 9: hanging his hat on?
- 41:20Speaker 5: Right? And unless all the stuff we heard about him
- 41:22Speaker 5: being such a great you know, reviewer of film and
- 41:26Speaker 5: classroom guy and student of Bill, unless that was all fantasy,
- 41:30Speaker 5: you have to imagine he's seeing something out there that
- 41:33Speaker 5: he would want to give input, Like there's something that
- 41:36Speaker 5: he's looking at that's like, here's what we're doing wrong,
- 41:39Speaker 5: here's what we need to do. That he would have
- 41:43Speaker 5: things to contribute on during the game. I would think
- 41:46Speaker 5: he would.
- 41:46Speaker 9: Yeah, there's just so many things on defense at this
- 41:49Speaker 9: point where guys are error repeating, and so I would
- 41:53Speaker 9: think that with Mayo, like he would be able to
- 41:56Speaker 9: go in there to the defensive meeting or I go
- 41:59Speaker 9: out there literally in practice like we used to see
- 42:01Speaker 9: him standing at the linebacker level and like talking about
- 42:05Speaker 9: things like run fits, talking about things like reading play action.
- 42:09Speaker 9: You know, they keep putting base defense on the field
- 42:11Speaker 9: and teams keep on throwing sixty yard bombs against them
- 42:13Speaker 9: when they're playing bass, So like, why are we talking
- 42:16Speaker 9: about Why aren't we talking about what personnel we're putting
- 42:19Speaker 9: out on the field, Like these types of things are
- 42:21Speaker 9: play calling, like these types of things are coaching during
- 42:24Speaker 9: the week. And if he was more hands on with
- 42:26Speaker 9: the defense, like maybe they would get the run fits
- 42:29Speaker 9: figured out, Like he played linebacker in the league for
- 42:31Speaker 9: a decade and well run fits like literally that's his thing,
- 42:35Speaker 9: Like that should be you know, Girodmeo's things. So I
- 42:39Speaker 9: just think he needs to be more hands on with
- 42:41Speaker 9: the defense.
- 42:42Speaker 6: All right, that was a big side.
- 42:45Speaker 5: No, he set a lot. We set a lot eight
- 42:49Speaker 5: five five past five hundred. Is the TPX outline podcasts
- 42:53Speaker 5: at Patriots dot com is the email address. We're gonna
- 42:56Speaker 5: let people get into it because.
- 42:59Speaker 6: That's what we do.
- 43:00Speaker 5: So, uh, this one I don't understand. Eric writes in
- 43:03Speaker 5: this is what happens to the locker room when you
- 43:05Speaker 5: don't resign any of your top draft picks. For the
- 43:07Speaker 5: past five to ten years. Bill let everyone walk because
- 43:11Speaker 5: he knew better and he could get the same production
- 43:13Speaker 5: for less, such such as yeah, I don't understand that they.
- 43:17Speaker 8: Just resigned all of their that's what they're trying to
- 43:20Speaker 8: get it in front of I mean a couple of
- 43:22Speaker 8: years ago. Maybe I think what he's trying to say
- 43:25Speaker 8: is that there's no core, there's no foundation from this team.
- 43:28Speaker 8: They're trying to rebuild it this year by resigning Dougar.
- 43:30Speaker 8: I was going to say that should be redoing that
- 43:32Speaker 8: this year, that you know, this is their first year.
- 43:34Speaker 8: But I think what he's trying to say is what
- 43:36Speaker 8: we haven't saying, that they they got to this point
- 43:38Speaker 8: because they didn't have a core. They had to resign
- 43:40Speaker 8: all those guys. It was either resign those guys or
- 43:42Speaker 8: just you.
- 43:43Speaker 6: Know, you know, maybe this is what he is saying,
- 43:46Speaker 6: but like they got to this point because they didn't draft,
- 43:48Speaker 6: well yeah, not because they let guys go who they
- 43:51Speaker 6: let go that you you will lament, right, right, Harry Right?
- 43:56Speaker 6: Was he going to be a locker room guy?
- 43:58Speaker 5: You know?
- 43:58Speaker 6: I mean Isaiya would right? You know, Isaiah Winners hasn't
- 44:03Speaker 6: played a game in a long time, by the way,
- 44:05Speaker 6: in Diamia.
- 44:06Speaker 5: I mean, you know, you don't have to be an
- 44:08Speaker 5: all pro to be a locker room guy, But you
- 44:10Speaker 5: have to be competent, you have to write.
- 44:12Speaker 6: And I think if they have a decent like and
- 44:15Speaker 6: I made this argument throughout the summer, like and I
- 44:18Speaker 6: didn't like the idea of resigning as many of their
- 44:21Speaker 6: own free agents as they did. I, however, didn't necessarily
- 44:25Speaker 6: have this like visceral reaction to any real individual guy
- 44:31Speaker 6: that they signed. I just didn't think it was smart
- 44:33Speaker 6: to sign them all. And I would rather have brought
- 44:35Speaker 6: in some higher end talent in some spots. And I
- 44:39Speaker 6: know they tried in, you know, with a couple of
- 44:41Speaker 6: wide receivers and that didn't work out, but they should have.
- 44:45Speaker 6: I mean, you know, Dugger and that whole crew, you
- 44:50Speaker 6: know a way, you know, can we talk about Michael
- 44:52Speaker 6: Winno a little bit? Yeah, Like, is there a chance
- 44:54Speaker 6: that Michael went who got nineteen million and is no
- 44:57Speaker 6: longer really interested in blocking anybody?
- 45:00Speaker 5: Chance?
- 45:01Speaker 9: I don't think it's that's what it is. But I
- 45:03Speaker 9: don't think it's I don't think it's solely like you're
- 45:07Speaker 9: not totally off.
- 45:08Speaker 6: I don't think he's played very well, That's all I'll say, correctly.
- 45:12Speaker 6: Well I will, how so on right tackle? Yeah, Okay,
- 45:16Speaker 6: So what about right guard. He wasn't playing well at
- 45:18Speaker 6: guard either played better. No, he didn't, he did not
- 45:21Speaker 6: according to the geeks. I'm just going by the what
- 45:24Speaker 6: what the geeks tell me.
- 45:25Speaker 5: I saw him get out in front of them.
- 45:26Speaker 6: Someone told someone, actually someone tweeted this weekend that that
- 45:32Speaker 6: was the first sack that he's allowed as a tackle
- 45:35Speaker 6: this year. Well, he's allowed a lot of sacks, so
- 45:39Speaker 6: the rest of them must have come at guard, according
- 45:40Speaker 6: to some.
- 45:41Speaker 9: I don't know about that exactly. I also put that
- 45:45Speaker 9: sack on Drake May but but that's besides the point.
- 45:47Speaker 6: But I'm just that's either here or that he hasn't
- 45:50Speaker 6: been good this year. No, he was a good player.
- 45:53Speaker 6: He was overweight when he came in. I just wonder
- 45:55Speaker 6: if he got his contract and he's satisfied.
- 45:58Speaker 9: He's kind of been on my radar for a while.
- 46:00Speaker 9: Not because I don't think he not because I think
- 46:01Speaker 9: he's been terrible, but I just think he hasn't been
- 46:04Speaker 9: an eighteen million dollar year player. But the uh, the
- 46:08Speaker 9: one uh, the one thing I would say, though not
- 46:11Speaker 9: necessarily even in his defense, but like him moving inside
- 46:16Speaker 9: and outside week to week and having that be almost
- 46:18Speaker 9: like a day to day proposition and on the point
- 46:21Speaker 9: is not okay. And if you ask me, that's got
- 46:25Speaker 9: to be frustrating like that, that has to be frustrating
- 46:28Speaker 9: for him that every week it's well now I'm playing
- 46:31Speaker 9: right tackle. Well now I'm playing guard. Now I'm playing
- 46:33Speaker 9: tackle again. And some of it is because they just
- 46:37Speaker 9: they need him to, like he has to put out
- 46:39Speaker 9: fires where they need them.
- 46:40Speaker 6: And I personally don't think he wants to play tackle,
- 46:42Speaker 6: which I think is part of the problem. Yeah, mentally,
- 46:46Speaker 6: I you know, I even wonder if that had something
- 46:48Speaker 6: to do with his weight game, like if I get
- 46:51Speaker 6: big enough, I won't be an option out there.
- 46:54Speaker 9: I think the biggest you know, he's said in the
- 46:56Speaker 9: past that he just wants to be at one position.
- 47:01Speaker 9: He doesn't care if it's tackle or if it's right guard,
- 47:04Speaker 9: but he wants to be one position and stay there.
- 47:07Speaker 9: So all this moving around I think is starting to
- 47:10Speaker 9: affect him.
- 47:10Speaker 8: I think that's all fair. I just I think to
- 47:12Speaker 8: the email ER's previous point, it's just that you paid
- 47:14Speaker 8: him this money. You just would hope that he'd be
- 47:17Speaker 8: one of your guys that you could look to when
- 47:19Speaker 8: it's yes, it's hard, it's hard. No question, But how
- 47:22Speaker 8: much respect do you have for a guy like Logan
- 47:23Speaker 8: Mankins who went and played a left tackle spot, you know,
- 47:26Speaker 8: in a pinch and you know, stepped up and did well.
- 47:28Speaker 8: And it's a lot for a lenu for sure. But
- 47:31Speaker 8: I just think they've had so much disappointment in these
- 47:33Speaker 8: guys that they've extended, guys that they've given big contracts
- 47:36Speaker 8: to go right down the list.
- 47:37Speaker 6: There's a laundry list of examples like the one you
- 47:39Speaker 6: just gave that happened over the twenty years. Now, all
- 47:42Speaker 6: of a sudden, it's like we I don't know how
- 47:47Speaker 6: kJ Osborne made it through Sunday, Like he didn't find
- 47:50Speaker 6: out until the night before that he was playing in
- 47:52Speaker 6: the game, right, right, that's not an ideal situation, what
- 47:56Speaker 6: I mean, right, it's not an ideal situation. He probably
- 47:59Speaker 6: didn't get you what he said. You got like three
- 48:00Speaker 6: reps all week. I get it. You didn't think you
- 48:03Speaker 6: were going to play, you know, and you played and
- 48:05Speaker 6: you went out there and you did. You know, you
- 48:06Speaker 6: did fine. You caught a touchdown at the end of
- 48:08Speaker 6: the game. But like these are things that are like
- 48:12Speaker 6: really bothering players.
- 48:14Speaker 5: Like what it is agent tweet out something about send
- 48:18Speaker 5: him something, and he posted it on his Instagram. Again,
- 48:21Speaker 5: what are we doing this in particular in that wide
- 48:25Speaker 5: receiver room?
- 48:26Speaker 9: What are we doing I don't think that that guy
- 48:28Speaker 9: is like his actual agent, just worth putting out.
- 48:32Speaker 6: Like, but but he posted.
- 48:34Speaker 9: I'm not saying the different, but I'm just saying, yeah.
- 48:37Speaker 6: Just tell me if I might have this wrong, because
- 48:39Speaker 6: you guys know me and the social stuff, I often
- 48:42Speaker 6: get it wrong. But didn't kJ himself post the I
- 48:47Speaker 6: don't care who the exchange was.
- 48:48Speaker 9: He reposted it, which I just learned this morning. Okay, apparently.
- 48:54Speaker 6: Wrong, which I don't know how it's different, like whether
- 48:57Speaker 6: it's not different, but I thought he if he reposted it,
- 49:01Speaker 6: we've had we've heard this a million times.
- 49:03Speaker 5: Well, if somebody else posted it and you shared it,
- 49:05Speaker 5: that's all that means you, right, so you advocate it.
- 49:09Speaker 6: I endorsed this message, thank you.
- 49:11Speaker 9: Correct.
- 49:12Speaker 8: I was just trying the contrast with his assistant receivers
- 49:15Speaker 8: coach Taekwon Underwood, who famously was wasn't he said that
- 49:18Speaker 8: wasn't he cut the night before the Super Bowl back
- 49:20Speaker 8: in twenty eleven.
- 49:21Speaker 5: Like now he's a coach, Like I don't know where
- 49:25Speaker 5: do we stay. All right, let's get to some of
- 49:27Speaker 5: the phone calls, and we got a million emails. Uh,
- 49:30Speaker 5: appreciated Shore. They're very positive. Joe's in New Hampshire. What's up, Joe?
- 49:36Speaker 10: Hey, guys. I just want to start off by saying
- 49:37Speaker 10: that was an amazing first fifty minute and my questions
- 49:43Speaker 10: are about some of the coach or some of the
- 49:45Speaker 10: coaching decisions during the game. First, the I know what
- 49:48Speaker 10: was talked about on the post game show, the two
- 49:50Speaker 10: point conversion. I think it was absolutely idiotic to go
- 49:53Speaker 10: for two when you're down nine. But the decision that
- 49:56Speaker 10: I feel like hasn't been talked about as much is
- 50:01Speaker 10: at the end of the first half when they had
- 50:03Speaker 10: the fourth and three, they tried to get them to
- 50:05Speaker 10: jump off sides, but they burned the time out so
- 50:08Speaker 10: they couldn't possibly get back to Bill to go three
- 50:10Speaker 10: and out and have a little bit of time to
- 50:12Speaker 10: maybe get a field goal range. I'll take your thoughts
- 50:15Speaker 10: off the air, Thanks guys.
- 50:17Speaker 8: Okay, thanks for the call situational football.
- 50:20Speaker 6: Well, I actually wanted to hear Evan because you can
- 50:23Speaker 6: you turn up out of the three of us, you
- 50:26Speaker 6: are absolutely more on the analytical bent. So I'm sure
- 50:29Speaker 6: you're going to tell us why we're idiots that we
- 50:31Speaker 6: don't think that you should you should go for two
- 50:33Speaker 6: in that situation.
- 50:34Speaker 9: So going for two up nine down nine, I should
- 50:37Speaker 9: say is is is definitely a nerd mountain, like this
- 50:43Speaker 9: is something that nerds.
- 50:44Speaker 6: So can I just ask this is your right? Can
- 50:48Speaker 6: you please just give me one reason that doesn't involve
- 50:52Speaker 6: knowing what you need, because you know what you need
- 50:55Speaker 6: either way, because I know what I need no matter
- 50:57Speaker 6: what happens, I'm making the two point conversion, by kicking
- 51:01Speaker 6: the extra point for one point, and by missing the
- 51:03Speaker 6: two point conversion, after all three of those scenarios, I
- 51:07Speaker 6: know what I need because the play has happened and
- 51:10Speaker 6: the result is there.
- 51:11Speaker 9: I guess the idea behind it, and I'm not going
- 51:13Speaker 9: to change any of your mind. So it's but the
- 51:15Speaker 9: idea but you can try, though, is that Let's say
- 51:19Speaker 9: they kick the extra point and they go down eight points.
- 51:22Speaker 9: Then with two minutes ago, May marches them on a
- 51:25Speaker 9: two minute drill drive. They go right, they go down
- 51:28Speaker 9: the field, and with three seconds left, he puts the
- 51:31Speaker 9: ball into the end zone and they're down two points.
- 51:34Speaker 9: Now they go for two, they don't get it last. Okay,
- 51:37Speaker 9: so if they if they do it this way, right,
- 51:41Speaker 9: then at least they can try to find on site
- 51:43Speaker 9: kick whatever the case may be, to manufacture another possession.
- 51:46Speaker 6: Okay. So why can't you on side kick after you
- 51:49Speaker 6: fail too?
- 51:49Speaker 9: Because there's no more timeline?
- 51:51Speaker 6: Okay? So yeah, so there's eight twenty two left? Yea,
- 51:56Speaker 6: Why if I'm down eight does my next score come
- 51:59Speaker 6: with no time I'm left? But if I'm down nine,
- 52:02Speaker 6: I'm no problem. Just for the record, that's a dumb argument.
- 52:08Speaker 6: Just for the record, I'm your argument, the analytics.
- 52:10Speaker 9: I'm actually on your side of the street on this
- 52:12Speaker 9: one person, the part of it, right, yeah, and I
- 52:16Speaker 9: just explaining the nerd but like I I agree with
- 52:20Speaker 9: your side of the street. Now that the other rebuttal
- 52:23Speaker 9: that the nerds would give and this is the nerdsen
- 52:25Speaker 9: why spreadsheets are spreadsheets and games or games? If Jalen
- 52:29Speaker 9: Polk doesn't slip and doesn't fall down on the two
- 52:33Speaker 9: point conversion, then we're not having this conversation, right.
- 52:37Speaker 6: No, no, no, I am very consistent. I'd still be
- 52:39Speaker 6: having the conversation because I am not results oriented. Well,
- 52:42Speaker 6: everybody the analytics, guys are all based on results. It's
- 52:47Speaker 6: right here, you have a fifty eight percent chance to
- 52:49Speaker 6: convert this, so that means it's the right thing to do. No,
- 52:52Speaker 6: it doesn't mean the result of the play does not
- 52:55Speaker 6: make the decision right or wrong. The decision should be
- 52:58Speaker 6: based on sound logic right, and I can absolutely be
- 53:02Speaker 6: swayed on a lot of analytic arguments that I think
- 53:05Speaker 6: the influx of the metrics have been a great addition
- 53:09Speaker 6: to the game. I said this on Sunday in the
- 53:11Speaker 6: postgame show. Thanks, I didn't credit you with any of this. No,
- 53:16Speaker 6: the influx of guys going forward on fourth down in
- 53:19Speaker 6: unconventional situations and spots on the field, I think has
- 53:22Speaker 6: been a home run. I've always liked that. I always
- 53:26Speaker 6: loved the fact that Parcels was an aggressive guy on
- 53:28Speaker 6: fourth down. I think it's added excitement to the game.
- 53:32Speaker 6: I think to just assume you can't get an inch
- 53:35Speaker 6: because you're on your own thirty yard line, I don't
- 53:37Speaker 6: think is a good assumption. Now this time and score
- 53:41Speaker 6: and all that kind of stuff goes into it. But
- 53:43Speaker 6: I think there's a lot I don't love this scenario,
- 53:47Speaker 6: but I've sort of been swayed a little bit by
- 53:49Speaker 6: the analytics. The down fourteen in the fourth quarter, when
- 53:53Speaker 6: you score the first touchdown, go for two, go for
- 53:56Speaker 6: two and take a chance of trying to win it.
- 53:59Speaker 6: If you get the first one, you're probably gonna get
- 54:02Speaker 6: one out of the two, but you take a chance
- 54:04Speaker 6: and get the first one, and then you can kick
- 54:06Speaker 6: an extra point to win it, which we've seen happen.
- 54:09Speaker 6: I think that the Jags did that to the Chargers
- 54:12Speaker 6: in the playoffs a couple of years ago, with that
- 54:14Speaker 6: huge comeback. I don't love it, don't love it, right.
- 54:18Speaker 11: But.
- 54:20Speaker 6: There's a there's a basis of rationality to that decision.
- 54:24Speaker 6: I'm within a score either way. I'm gonna roll the
- 54:27Speaker 6: dice and get greedy here, and at least I have momentum.
- 54:30Speaker 5: See the difference to me, the whole difference between that
- 54:33Speaker 5: one and the one that happens Sunday is you don't
- 54:36Speaker 5: add a possession needed.
- 54:37Speaker 6: Right, what I'm saying, you're still within a possession a
- 54:40Speaker 6: possession here this one. You put it in a situation
- 54:43Speaker 6: where if you fail on this play, like for some reason,
- 54:46Speaker 6: the analytic guys tell you, well, when you're if you're
- 54:49Speaker 6: only down eight then that two point conversions do a die.
- 54:51Speaker 6: If you miss it, you lose. I got news for
- 54:53Speaker 6: you people. The game ended on Sunday with a twenty
- 54:56Speaker 6: two left. When Jalen Polk fell down, the game was over. Now,
- 55:01Speaker 6: I think the game was over before that. Anyway, there
- 55:03Speaker 6: was no possible way they were gonna get They weren't
- 55:06Speaker 6: gonna win the game. But I think they made Jacksonville's
- 55:09Speaker 6: job infinitely easier getting first downs and melting the clock
- 55:14Speaker 6: when they made it a nine point game instead of
- 55:15Speaker 6: an eight pack game. Because the Patriots applied they applied
- 55:19Speaker 6: no game pressure to Jacksonville none. They should have made
- 55:23Speaker 6: Jacksonville pay for an idiotic decision by Doug Peterson to
- 55:27Speaker 6: forego a field goal on the previous possession of the
- 55:30Speaker 6: eleven and a half minute possession that resulted in zero points.
- 55:33Speaker 6: They kick a field goal, they got three scores. He
- 55:37Speaker 6: just figured, we just ran the ball seventeen players in
- 55:40Speaker 6: a row and they can't stop us, so I'm not
- 55:41Speaker 6: gonna get stopped on this one. And son of a gun,
- 55:45Speaker 6: they got stopped, and you allowed the Patriots to have
- 55:48Speaker 6: what flicker of life they had, and the Patriots just
- 55:50Speaker 6: gave that flicker right back to them by When that
- 55:53Speaker 6: possession started, it was a two score game. When that
- 55:55Speaker 6: possession ended, it was a two score game. Nothing changed.
- 55:58Speaker 9: I just want to be clear that I am not
- 56:01Speaker 9: pro to point in this because I know I'm gonna
- 56:03Speaker 9: get lumped in with the nerds, so I just I
- 56:05Speaker 9: wouldn't have gone for two. But my bigger criticism of
- 56:09Speaker 9: it was actually the play call. And I understand that
- 56:12Speaker 9: he was open.
- 56:13Speaker 6: I'll get to that la.
- 56:14Speaker 9: He was open, okay, But the odds of this team
- 56:20Speaker 9: having Jalen pull went on that route and actually freaking
- 56:23Speaker 9: catch the ball.
- 56:24Speaker 5: It's the player.
- 56:24Speaker 6: How many how many targets in a row? Is he
- 56:27Speaker 6: gone without making a catch? I don't know if we're
- 56:30Speaker 6: gonna go by the analytics, if we're gonna go by
- 56:32Speaker 6: the numbers and win probabilities and all this other nonsense
- 56:35Speaker 6: that doesn't take anything into consideration other than the spreadsheet.
- 56:39Speaker 6: What was the last time that he was targeted that
- 56:41Speaker 6: he caught the ball?
- 56:41Speaker 9: And he's isoed on that side of the field, So
- 56:44Speaker 9: that's the only place that Drake may can throw the ball.
- 56:46Speaker 9: So like when he falls down, it's not like he
- 56:48Speaker 9: can now Oh like I have to oh.
- 56:50Speaker 6: By the way, guys were falling down in that game
- 56:52Speaker 6: all over the place. And the last thing that was
- 56:55Speaker 6: an issue.
- 56:56Speaker 9: I hate it about it was you have this super
- 56:59Speaker 9: ath eat that quarterback and you have him throw the
- 57:01Speaker 9: ball from the pocket, like get him on the move.
- 57:04Speaker 6: I would even have taken his own reading. Yeah, like
- 57:06Speaker 6: the one against Philadelphia in the preseason that he's he
- 57:09Speaker 6: touched in right.
- 57:10Speaker 9: Like you know, yeah, incorporate his legs somehow, like run
- 57:14Speaker 9: some sort of an option or something like.
- 57:16Speaker 6: That run was still sick at that point.
- 57:19Speaker 9: I get to that. But yeah, I just Barth always
- 57:22Speaker 9: says this, and it's the one thing I agree.
- 57:24Speaker 6: With him on, like that unnecessary shout it out.
- 57:27Speaker 9: The decision to go for it is only as good
- 57:29Speaker 9: as the play call. So like if you don't have
- 57:32Speaker 9: a great two point play, then the the nerds are
- 57:36Speaker 9: going to say on the spreadsheet to still go for it.
- 57:38Speaker 6: Because it's you know, you're gonna get it. You're gonna
- 57:40Speaker 6: get it.
- 57:40Speaker 5: And that's where falls down.
- 57:42Speaker 6: What I what I don't like is that. And I
- 57:46Speaker 6: was listening to Andrew Callahan, you know, we credited him,
- 57:48Speaker 6: he got you know, the quality and born stuff. So
- 57:51Speaker 6: I'm gonna take a shot at Andrew now a little bit.
- 57:53Speaker 6: I heard him this morning, and you know he's in
- 57:56Speaker 6: this conversation and they're going back and forth. Hardy and
- 57:58Speaker 6: Wallach are anti point conversion, and Andrew was for it.
- 58:03Speaker 6: And you know, in the middle of the argument, Hardy
- 58:05Speaker 6: just says, do you do you believe in momentum? And
- 58:07Speaker 6: he says no, I'm sorry, I can't. I can't have
- 58:10Speaker 6: a conversation with you anymore. I'm done. Because if you
- 58:12Speaker 6: think that every play has got the same exact chance
- 58:15Speaker 6: of working just because of the play, You've never played sports.
- 58:19Speaker 6: You've never been on a field, You've never been on
- 58:21Speaker 6: what to deal was, We've never experienced it. Do you
- 58:23Speaker 6: think the Atlanta Falcons had a sniff of a chance
- 58:26Speaker 6: of stopping that last two point conversion in the Super Bowl?
- 58:29Speaker 12: Right?
- 58:30Speaker 6: Analytics will tell you it was a fifty to fifty,
- 58:33Speaker 6: was one hundred to nothing. There's no way the Falcons
- 58:36Speaker 6: were going to stop that after that avalanche had.
- 58:39Speaker 5: Occurred, right momentum.
- 58:40Speaker 6: The only way that that play was not going to
- 58:43Speaker 6: work is if somebody on the Patriots failed to execute.
- 58:46Speaker 6: I'll la Jalen Polk falling down. If I think that
- 58:49Speaker 6: last one went to Ammandola, right.
- 58:50Speaker 9: Was that the shield screen or that the direct I think.
- 58:52Speaker 6: It was the shield screen. The only way that play
- 58:55Speaker 6: was going to fail is if Immadola dropped the ball inexplicably.
- 58:57Speaker 6: There's no way the Falcons were going to the Patriots
- 59:01Speaker 6: from getting two yards because I'm sorry, momentum does matter.
- 59:06Speaker 6: And again, down fourteen, you get those two, you can
- 59:10Speaker 6: talk to me and the analytics people can explain to
- 59:12Speaker 6: me why it's advantageous. I have not heard anything that
- 59:16Speaker 6: doesn't involve knowing what I need down nine with eight
- 59:21Speaker 6: minutes left, and then everybody, This is again not picking
- 59:25Speaker 6: on you, because this is what everybody is hitting us with.
- 59:28Speaker 6: Everybody is saying this way, when I get the touchdown,
- 59:31Speaker 6: if I'm down eight, there's no time left after the
- 59:34Speaker 6: two point conversion.
- 59:35Speaker 5: I don't know why.
- 59:36Speaker 6: Why why does the eight twenty two evaporate down eight
- 59:40Speaker 6: but it doesn't down nine. I don't understand that.
- 59:43Speaker 8: Also, pay me in the position of taking that two
- 59:46Speaker 8: point conversion after you just drove the length of the field.
- 59:48Speaker 8: You're threatening the other defense is on their heels. The
- 59:51Speaker 8: game is on this play. You know, I believe in momentum,
- 59:54Speaker 8: and I feel like to your point, that was the
- 59:55Speaker 8: point I was just about to make with the Patriots
- 59:56Speaker 8: is Evan said, like in that situation, would you rather
- 59:59Speaker 8: have it? It's seven all right, guys, this is the
- 1:00:00Speaker 8: game right here, seven minutes. It's kind of a fart
- 1:00:02Speaker 8: in the wind. You know, you don't really realize it
- 1:00:04Speaker 8: at the time. Whereas when you're going for two at
- 1:00:06Speaker 8: the end of the game and you just drove the
- 1:00:07Speaker 8: length of the field and here it is right there
- 1:00:09Speaker 8: to win the game.
- 1:00:10Speaker 6: Would I would also say, watch what your offense has
- 1:00:14Speaker 6: done from the second quarter all the way through that drive.
- 1:00:16Speaker 6: You've done nothing. The biggest play on that drive was
- 1:00:19Speaker 6: an unbelievable catch by Hunter Henry that converted a third
- 1:00:22Speaker 6: and long down the seam that they could have run
- 1:00:26Speaker 6: fifteen times in a row and wouldn't have resulted into completion.
- 1:00:29Speaker 6: Like read what happened on the on the drive and
- 1:00:32Speaker 6: figure out how you got into the end zone, and
- 1:00:34Speaker 6: now say to yourself, I could do that two more times. Yeah,
- 1:00:38Speaker 6: I can get that that helmet top catch from mounter
- 1:00:40Speaker 6: Henry a couple more times so I can get scored.
- 1:00:43Speaker 6: It was an unbelievable catch. Though Evan it was the
- 1:00:46Speaker 6: guy was right there. But I when I watched the
- 1:00:48Speaker 6: throw to Bootyevable, when I watched it.
- 1:00:51Speaker 9: Live, that was like a no, no, yes throw for sure.
- 1:00:54Speaker 6: Oh in the situation, it was absolutely the.
- 1:00:56Speaker 9: Right, but you got watching it back, I feel like
- 1:01:00Speaker 9: we're in Tampa two. So like the middle linebackers back
- 1:01:02Speaker 9: is to the quarterback, so he doesn't know the ball
- 1:01:05Speaker 9: is coming. So as long as Drake May throws it
- 1:01:07Speaker 9: up high enough that Hunter Henry can go up and
- 1:01:10Speaker 9: get it, there's really no like risk of the player
- 1:01:13Speaker 9: the defender making a play on the ball.
- 1:01:14Speaker 5: All right, one more call and we got to take
- 1:01:17Speaker 5: a break. Christian's in LA. What's up? Christian?
- 1:01:20Speaker 6: Hey you guys?
- 1:01:21Speaker 13: How you doing?
- 1:01:22Speaker 14: So I just wanted to say that I actually enjoyed
- 1:01:24Speaker 14: the experience. I enjoyed the game because I'm looking at
- 1:01:29Speaker 14: it through the perspective of where we're going and with
- 1:01:33Speaker 14: what we have is all we have to work with.
- 1:01:35Speaker 14: So we are who we are right because we're working
- 1:01:38Speaker 14: with the guys we have to play with. We gotta
- 1:01:40Speaker 14: Marshall on the field and we've got to do our best.
- 1:01:42Speaker 14: So with that perspective, I looked at the game, and
- 1:01:45Speaker 14: I just I got some enjoyment, especially in the middle
- 1:01:49Speaker 14: of the second drive, it felt like for a moment
- 1:01:53Speaker 14: that we were a playoff team again. I know it's stupid,
- 1:01:56Speaker 14: and I know it's just one of those things that
- 1:01:57Speaker 14: as a fan, that feeling right came back like, Wow,
- 1:02:01Speaker 14: this is what I'm holding on for, and I just
- 1:02:04Speaker 14: wanted to say that even though we're not running to
- 1:02:07Speaker 14: where we're going, we're sprinting. Maybe we're not even walking,
- 1:02:10Speaker 14: maybe we're crawling to where we're going. With the first
- 1:02:12Speaker 14: year coach, a first year quarterback, a couple of first
- 1:02:16Speaker 14: year receivers, a offensive line that's just trying to figure
- 1:02:19Speaker 14: out what the hell offensive line is supposed to actually
- 1:02:22Speaker 14: do for a living.
- 1:02:24Speaker 5: I like the.
- 1:02:25Speaker 14: Direction that we're going and I'm going to look at
- 1:02:26Speaker 14: these games from that perspective on not from how perfect
- 1:02:29Speaker 14: we can be or what mistakes we made. For just
- 1:02:31Speaker 14: as a fan, a long time fan, I'm enjoying this
- 1:02:35Speaker 14: journey taking.
- 1:02:36Speaker 5: It Okay, thanks, thanks Christian. I mean, you're you're even
- 1:02:40Speaker 5: more optimistic than I am.
- 1:02:41Speaker 9: Right, I'm not sure I'm enjoying the journey.
- 1:02:43Speaker 6: The guys from the UK fan club that I don't
- 1:02:45Speaker 6: optimist like Al.
- 1:02:47Speaker 5: I hear what you're saying, but we need to see more.
- 1:02:52Speaker 5: Even if even if you say we're crawling in the
- 1:02:55Speaker 5: right direction, I need to see a little bit more.
- 1:02:58Speaker 9: The only thing that's going in the right direction right
- 1:03:00Speaker 9: now as the quarterback. Yeah, like everybody else one way
- 1:03:03Speaker 9: and way. That's huge, that's a huge, that's huge.
- 1:03:06Speaker 6: And I would even say, like, how do you think
- 1:03:07Speaker 6: he's played pretty good?
- 1:03:08Speaker 11: Right?
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: Yeah, they got.
- 1:03:10Speaker 6: Blown out of both games. I know that's just illustrated.
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: Like you have a young quarterback who.
- 1:03:15Speaker 5: Had started Week one, like I said, really would have
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: won this game.
- 1:03:18Speaker 6: But they wouldn't have won the game Sunday. Yeah, not
- 1:03:21Speaker 6: that game.
- 1:03:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, like the whole team would have been better.
- 1:03:24Speaker 6: Paul, this looks I think the other team could have
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: put fifty on the board if it wanted to. They
- 1:03:29Speaker 6: stopped throwing the ball. You realize that, Like they played
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: like a high school game.
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: Butterfly.
- 1:03:33Speaker 6: He threw for two hundred yards on twenty attempts. They
- 1:03:35Speaker 6: averaged ten attempt.

- 1:05:45Speaker 3: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: now me it's next for residential delivery only.
- 1:05:56Speaker 15: Just let me just start, let me just start off
- 1:05:58Speaker 15: real quick. So just we're disappointed. You know, six losses
- 1:06:02Speaker 15: in a row never a good thing.
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:06:04Speaker 15: Last night, you know, after the game, I felt like
- 1:06:07Speaker 15: we just went out there and played soft. We're playing
- 1:06:10Speaker 15: soft at the moment. And when I say playing soft,
- 1:06:12Speaker 15: I means, you know, the stopping the run, being able
- 1:06:15Speaker 15: to run the ball, and being able to cover kicks
- 1:06:17Speaker 15: which we weren't able to do. Now I'm saying that, Look,
- 1:06:20Speaker 15: I think we have the guys in there that can
- 1:06:22Speaker 15: turn this ship around. But you know that comes to
- 1:06:26Speaker 15: hard work, hard work on the practice field and going
- 1:06:28Speaker 15: out there just getting better at each and every day.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: Fire away, Mike Greace, are Bob, You're on the screen,
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: on my screen. You want You're Bob?
- 1:06:40Speaker 6: You want a leader?
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: Do you want me to lead it? Okay?
- 1:06:44Speaker 6: Okay?
- 1:06:45Speaker 16: Gered From from day one with your coaches, you know,
- 1:06:49Speaker 16: you've talked about being demanding without being demeaning. Yeah, and
- 1:06:55Speaker 16: I'm curious how much your core belief in that has
- 1:06:59Speaker 16: been shape can just by the way that the team
- 1:07:02Speaker 16: is playing and just what's maybe what's happening around the team.
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: That's that's in my DNA. You know.
- 1:07:08Speaker 15: Once again, like a lot of these things are about
- 1:07:10Speaker 15: relationships and treating people as human beings.
- 1:07:12Speaker 2: So that's in my DNA.
- 1:07:14Speaker 15: That doesn't mean like we're out there, you know, coaching
- 1:07:16Speaker 15: He's got solvet. I think the coaches do do a
- 1:07:19Speaker 15: good job of coaching them hard. And you know, obviously
- 1:07:21Speaker 15: it would be easy if we were sitting here at
- 1:07:23Speaker 15: six and one to continue to have that message. But
- 1:07:26Speaker 15: at one and six it's a I guess it's a
- 1:07:28Speaker 15: natural question from you, should we change up our coaching style?
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: And right now, I just think that.
- 1:07:33Speaker 15: We need to continue to work hard and continue to
- 1:07:35Speaker 15: push the players to get the results on the field.
- 1:07:38Speaker 16: And I had one question on a key point in
- 1:07:42Speaker 16: the game, the second quarter. The second drive the Jaguars
- 1:07:47Speaker 16: had in that quarter. The first two plays was a
- 1:07:51Speaker 16: three yard run and then the fifty eight yard pass.
- 1:07:54Speaker 16: That was a big play. It looked to me, and
- 1:07:57Speaker 16: correct me if I'm wrong. You stayed in base the
- 1:08:01Speaker 16: first down play they had the three tight ends and
- 1:08:04Speaker 16: then I think they switched to two tight ends two receivers.
- 1:08:08Speaker 16: But I think you stayed in base on the fifty
- 1:08:10Speaker 16: eight yarder. And I'm just wondering if you were okay
- 1:08:13Speaker 16: with that not something there if I have it right.
- 1:08:16Speaker 15: No, I am okay with that, and I would say
- 1:08:18Speaker 15: you can play bass the multiple personnel groups twenty one,
- 1:08:21Speaker 15: twelve thirteen. It doesn't matter the same thing with our
- 1:08:23Speaker 15: sub packages now. No matter what package is out there
- 1:08:26Speaker 15: with a big play like that, it's down the field,
- 1:08:28Speaker 15: So everyone else really doesn't matter upfront, Bob, come.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: On, thanks, Jacey morning.
- 1:08:38Speaker 17: I want to ask you, I guess the question related
- 1:08:40Speaker 17: to what Mike asked first, regarding the messaging and the
- 1:08:45Speaker 17: way you handled the team going back to the spring,
- 1:08:48Speaker 17: even with the off season conditioning, and then you go
- 1:08:51Speaker 17: through OTAs in training camp, there's been such a significant
- 1:08:55Speaker 17: turnover in terms of personnel, guys who weren't with you
- 1:09:00Speaker 17: maybe in the spring or even through training camp. Are
- 1:09:04Speaker 17: you concerned sometimes with the messaging is different the way
- 1:09:07Speaker 17: it's received with those guys because they haven't invested those
- 1:09:12Speaker 17: hours with you and the staff out on the practice field,
- 1:09:15Speaker 17: in the weight room, et cetera, to really fully buy in.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: I guess what I'm asking you.
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: That's a good question.
- 1:09:21Speaker 15: Look, we're all continue to get better, continuing to learn
- 1:09:26Speaker 15: one another. I would say the messaging is the messaging.
- 1:09:29Speaker 15: And you know when you hear you say, you know
- 1:09:31Speaker 15: we played soft, I mean that's that's how I feel
- 1:09:34Speaker 15: about it, and it would be easy for me to
- 1:09:36Speaker 15: sit up here and go through injuries and all that stuff,
- 1:09:39Speaker 15: But I mean that would be pointless to me.
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: We have to be able to go out there and
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: perform at a high level with the guys that we have.
- 1:09:45Speaker 17: And follow up regarding Drake and you and Elliott when
- 1:09:49Speaker 17: you met with us in the spring around the draft
- 1:09:51Speaker 17: time and talked about meeting him and the things you
- 1:09:54Speaker 17: liked about him, the way he didn't throw teammates under
- 1:09:56Speaker 17: the bus at North Carolina's toughness, et cetera. Now, I've
- 1:09:59Speaker 17: been through t two games and he's been in some
- 1:10:02Speaker 17: adversity and he's played, you know, well for long stretches
- 1:10:07Speaker 17: of those two games.
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: What have you seen from him?
- 1:10:09Speaker 17: What have you discovered that's new about Drake may or
- 1:10:12Speaker 17: maybe pleasantly surprising about your quarterback that you didn't really
- 1:10:18Speaker 17: know when when you drafted him.
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: Well, you know, I'll say it's just his overall toughness.
- 1:10:23Speaker 15: He's still out there, He's taking hits and getting back
- 1:10:25Speaker 15: up and still stepping into the pocket.
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: I think he's doing a good job.
- 1:10:28Speaker 15: When you talk about progress from then one and game two,
- 1:10:31Speaker 15: you know, no turnovers, yesterday, which is headed in the
- 1:10:34Speaker 15: right direction.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: He's definitely playing at a good level for us. Thank you,
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: Thanks Bob.
- 1:10:44Speaker 18: We'll go back to Mike Greece and I'll just ask guys,
- 1:10:48Speaker 18: raise your hand and turn your screen on if you
- 1:10:50Speaker 18: have questions to ask.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: It's hard for me to see on this monitor.
- 1:10:54Speaker 16: Without doing that, Stacy, I already asked two when it
- 1:10:57Speaker 16: looks like you got others lined up, so let me
- 1:10:59Speaker 16: defer to the others for now.
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: If that's okay.
- 1:11:02Speaker 18: Okay, so guys, go ahead, and if if hand is raised,
- 1:11:06Speaker 18: go ahead and ask.
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: I'm disconnected on my end, so sorry about that.
- 1:11:13Speaker 19: Hey, Rod, I just want to ask you real quick,
- 1:11:16Speaker 19: what's the balance like for you just obviously knowing the
- 1:11:19Speaker 19: game and knowing what to do from your playing career,
- 1:11:23Speaker 19: but realizing that guys aren't you and just having to
- 1:11:27Speaker 19: work through that as a coach and how to adjust
- 1:11:29Speaker 19: to that.
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: I look, that's a good question.
- 1:11:32Speaker 15: What I would say is, you know, these are professional
- 1:11:34Speaker 15: football players in there. This isn't you know, this isn't college.
- 1:11:37Speaker 15: My My messaging to them is like, this is a job.
- 1:11:40Speaker 15: We play a game, but this is a job, and
- 1:11:41Speaker 15: we all get evaluated on a day to day basis
- 1:11:44Speaker 15: and obviously on game day and you know, we just
- 1:11:47Speaker 15: have to do better. And whether you know, I don't
- 1:11:49Speaker 15: really use that experience of me being a player, try
- 1:11:52Speaker 15: to coach everyone in their own unique style, but at
- 1:11:55Speaker 15: the same time, we've got to perform better.
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: Thanks, Thank you, Agra.
- 1:12:03Speaker 11: I had a question about kind of the whys of
- 1:12:05Speaker 11: some of the you know, the things that you were
- 1:12:07Speaker 11: talking about with the team. You know, you're saying they
- 1:12:09Speaker 11: played soft, and also kind of some of the comments,
- 1:12:12Speaker 11: uh afterwards with with Kendrick Born in particular about maybe
- 1:12:16Speaker 11: guys weren't as engaged as they should be in off
- 1:12:19Speaker 11: the field, you know, off the field habits and things
- 1:12:21Speaker 11: of that nature. Why do you feel that there's kind
- 1:12:24Speaker 11: of what appears to be a disconnect between your overall
- 1:12:27Speaker 11: messing if we need to be a hard, tough football team, engaged,
- 1:12:31Speaker 11: you know, playing for each other, and what seems to
- 1:12:34Speaker 11: be kind of developing on Sundays.
- 1:12:37Speaker 15: I didn't hear what what Kendrick said, but what I
- 1:12:40Speaker 15: will say, I'm not sure if he's talking about some
- 1:12:42Speaker 15: of the off the field issues that have kind of creeped.
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: Up here the last couple of weeks. Is that what
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: he was talking about. He was good guys staying up
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: too late.
- 1:12:50Speaker 11: You know, maybe maybe not having the best diet and
- 1:12:53Speaker 11: off field preparation wasn't necessarily you know, off the field
- 1:12:58Speaker 11: other aspects.
- 1:13:00Speaker 15: That's part of being a professional. That's part of being
- 1:13:02Speaker 15: a professional. This is your job, and your job's not
- 1:13:05Speaker 15: only inside this building, but also outside this building. Taking
- 1:13:08Speaker 15: care of your body and all that stuff. That's that's
- 1:13:10Speaker 15: part of it, and that equals longevity in this in
- 1:13:12Speaker 15: this league.
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:13:13Speaker 15: For me, you know, the messaging is we just need
- 1:13:16Speaker 15: to get better. We have to do everything a little
- 1:13:19Speaker 15: bit better. You look at the game yesterday. We started
- 1:13:22Speaker 15: off fast, we talked about starting fast, and then obviously
- 1:13:25Speaker 15: it was disappointing the end the half and really couldn't
- 1:13:27Speaker 15: get things started in the second half. And that just
- 1:13:30Speaker 15: comes through, you know, continue to grind, continue to push through.
- 1:13:33Speaker 15: So look, you want to get to heaven, you got
- 1:13:34Speaker 15: to go through hell sometimes and it may feel that
- 1:13:36Speaker 15: way right now, but hopefully.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: We turn this around.
- 1:13:40Speaker 11: And just in terms of stopping go ahead, just in
- 1:13:45Speaker 11: terms of stopping the run, that obviously been a glaring
- 1:13:48Speaker 11: weakness the last three weeks. What do you see there
- 1:13:51Speaker 11: is it the defensive line, is it filling gaps?
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: What's uh, what's the rationale.
- 1:13:56Speaker 15: It's the it's the front seven, and we just have
- 1:13:59Speaker 15: to be more discipline and building a wall and defeating
- 1:14:02Speaker 15: blockers in front of us. It's not I mean, it's easy. Look,
- 1:14:05Speaker 15: it's not the exit of knows. We just have to
- 1:14:08Speaker 15: be where we're supposed to be. Last week it was
- 1:14:11Speaker 15: the big runs that really we talked about taking away
- 1:14:13Speaker 15: those three big runs and it's not a it's not
- 1:14:15Speaker 15: a problem.
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: We're not even having this conversation. Yesterday it was.
- 1:14:18Speaker 15: Almost like death by a thousand cuts, where it was
- 1:14:20Speaker 15: four yards, six yards, five yards, and that man, that's tough.
- 1:14:24Speaker 15: That's tough, and you know, I would like to see
- 1:14:26Speaker 15: her and say, you know, it's this guy.
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: That guy like, I'm not going to do that. It's
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: all of us up front. Beg you.
- 1:14:32Speaker 18: Next next question, Jared Caryl's followed like Karen Gregan Taylor,
- 1:14:45Speaker 18: All right, we'll go to Karen Gregain.
- 1:14:48Speaker 20: Good morning, GIROD. When you hear of players speaking out,
- 1:14:56Speaker 20: whether it's Kendrick Bourne or daniel Lequally this week, Devone Godshaw,
- 1:15:02Speaker 20: previous weeks, do you see that as a method of
- 1:15:07Speaker 20: self policing or is it possible potential to create a
- 1:15:13Speaker 20: divide in the room.
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think it creates a divide in the
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: room at all.
- 1:15:17Speaker 15: I think just how I use, you know, the media
- 1:15:19Speaker 15: sometimes for messaging. I think some of the players do
- 1:15:22Speaker 15: the same thing. I'm not going to tell them, you know,
- 1:15:25Speaker 15: say this, say that. No, if that's how you feel,
- 1:15:28Speaker 15: If you feel like you're the best player, then go
- 1:15:30Speaker 15: out and do it. If you feel like you want
- 1:15:32Speaker 15: to challenge your brother besides you, I mean, go out
- 1:15:35Speaker 15: and do it.
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: Just you know. I think they use it as a tool,
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: you know, to get guys going.
- 1:15:41Speaker 19: Thanks.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: Next question to Cord Randall Rod.
- 1:15:47Speaker 11: I don't want to bread too much into social media,
- 1:15:49Speaker 11: but Jalen posted then deleted a piece sign and mogians
- 1:15:54Speaker 11: Instagram story after the game.
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: Some people interpreted that a certain way.
- 1:15:57Speaker 12: I'm just wondering if you spoke to them about that,
- 1:16:00Speaker 12: or of any reason to question his commitment to the team.
- 1:16:03Speaker 15: After I have not spoken about that and not on
- 1:16:05Speaker 15: question is his devotion to the team.
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: We'll give Taylor Kyle's another opportunity.
- 1:16:14Speaker 12: Yeah, sorry about that. Thank you for your time, coach.
- 1:16:17Speaker 12: When it comes to some of the penalties and discipline errors.
- 1:16:19Speaker 12: It seems like a lot of them lately have come
- 1:16:21Speaker 12: from veterans and sometimes captains. So I wonder as a coach,
- 1:16:24Speaker 12: is it more discouraging when it's your leaders committing some
- 1:16:27Speaker 12: of those errors, And where's the fix when it is, again,
- 1:16:30Speaker 12: the guys that you look to for leadership kind of
- 1:16:32Speaker 12: committing those errors.
- 1:16:33Speaker 15: Yeah, no matter who it is, whether you're a rookie
- 1:16:35Speaker 15: or a veteran player, emanies are just unacceptable.
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: And you see what happened yesterday. You know, we jump
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: off sides and then they go.
- 1:16:41Speaker 15: For two points. It's like, we're all we're giving these
- 1:16:43Speaker 15: guys extra opportunities by shooting ourselves in the foot, and
- 1:16:47Speaker 15: that's just not good football. Thank you, thanks, and we'll
- 1:16:51Speaker 15: finish where we started. Mike Greece.
- 1:16:55Speaker 16: Then it's sort of on the same lines as Dakota
- 1:16:57Speaker 16: kJ Osborne posted some then on Instagram, like a text
- 1:17:01Speaker 16: exchange with his agent, and his agent said, we're we
- 1:17:05Speaker 16: have to figure out this situation or will work to
- 1:17:07Speaker 16: figure out this situation. I guess what is the situation
- 1:17:12Speaker 16: with him.
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: That that's going on. I guess I'm not sure. I'm
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: not sure what the exact situation is.
- 1:17:18Speaker 15: You know, he's probably frustrated because he's not playing as
- 1:17:21Speaker 15: much as he must do. And you know, I understand
- 1:17:24Speaker 15: that if you want, if you think you should be
- 1:17:25Speaker 15: out there on the field and not having those opportunities,
- 1:17:27Speaker 15: you will get frustrated. It's a natural human reaction. I
- 1:17:31Speaker 15: would I would hope that they would keep that stuff
- 1:17:32Speaker 15: in house. And I have that open door policy. If
- 1:17:34Speaker 15: he feels a certain type of way, he always has
- 1:17:36Speaker 15: the ability to speak to me. But that's those guys
- 1:17:38Speaker 15: freedom speech. Thank he does.
- 1:17:43Speaker 6: And now great moments in.
- 1:17:47Speaker 5: History.
- 1:17:48Speaker 6: What's the top golf situation?
- 1:17:51Speaker 9: Tuesday?
- 1:17:51Speaker 6: Tuesday night five?
- 1:17:53Speaker 5: You're going to play top Golf.
- 1:17:55Speaker 6: We gotta pat thanks for inviting me. Oh, it's actually
- 1:17:58Speaker 6: for Mike's brother. It's for my brother. Wanted nothing more, pishaw,
- 1:18:03Speaker 6: he's out.
- 1:18:03Speaker 9: He wanted nothing cameo.
- 1:18:05Speaker 21: Yeah, they want He wanted nothing more than a cameo
- 1:18:07Speaker 21: from Hardy for our family secret Santa. I don't know.
- 1:18:10Speaker 8: I didn't see the video, but he told me the story.
- 1:18:12Speaker 21: Oh, and I have a video of my brother in
- 1:18:14Speaker 21: law opening.
- 1:18:15Speaker 8: So Hardy was like, well, why don't we just go
- 1:18:16Speaker 8: to Top Golf?
- 1:18:17Speaker 21: Cut my brother in law Golf's and so I had
- 1:18:20Speaker 21: the video, of course, o'hardy, but then I took a
- 1:18:21Speaker 21: video of my brother in law opening it, and like
- 1:18:23Speaker 21: you've never seen anyone more excited, and like when you heard.
- 1:18:26Speaker 6: Marilla is going to be there too, let's go.
- 1:18:28Speaker 21: He's from Southie, Like, yeah, he was so excited.
- 1:18:32Speaker 6: They love you, not like Hardy. You should have seen it.
- 1:18:35Speaker 6: It was like Brady gave him the cameo when he
- 1:18:37Speaker 6: found out.
- 1:18:39Speaker 20: It's like a thirteen year old open like Taylor Swift
- 1:18:41Speaker 20: tickets under the tree.
- 1:18:43Speaker 6: Wow, that's another great moment from.
- 1:18:48Speaker 5: All right back here on Patriots Unfiltered eight five five
- 1:18:52Speaker 5: past five hundred is the TPX Hotline podcast at patriots
- 1:18:56Speaker 5: dot com. Is the email address. Once again, thank you
- 1:19:00Speaker 5: for everyone who is calling in, emailing in. Uh, hundreds
- 1:19:05Speaker 5: of emails coming in. Obviously we're not gonna be able
- 1:19:07Speaker 5: to get to all of them, but why not. Yeah, well,
- 1:19:10Speaker 5: let's take a phone call. Dennis is in East Boston.
- 1:19:14Speaker 5: What's up, Dennis? Dennis up? Okay, let's go to Alex
- 1:19:23Speaker 5: and Augusta. Alex, what's up Alex?
- 1:19:28Speaker 6: Good job, Hardy?
- 1:19:30Speaker 5: Wow. And finally Eldred in North Carolina. What's up, Eldred Bepepp?
- 1:19:39Speaker 13: Hey, how doing to all?
- 1:19:41Speaker 5: Right?
- 1:19:42Speaker 13: Okay, I just got a couple of questions the Boston
- 1:19:46Speaker 13: practice squad players, okay, and I know the practice squad
- 1:19:50Speaker 13: players for reed, but just relacing and receiving and whatever.
- 1:19:56Speaker 13: If I know anything about the judge job, yeah, hold back,
- 1:20:00Speaker 13: Mike Battle and.
- 1:20:03Speaker 6: Cornerback.
- 1:20:04Speaker 5: And if I know anything.
- 1:20:07Speaker 9: About show mathis actually got all of it. Yeah, ocewan,
- 1:20:11Speaker 9: I think that's how you say.
- 1:20:13Speaker 6: That's twice by the way he was he was activated.
- 1:20:16Speaker 6: But I have an opinion on everything. I have no
- 1:20:19Speaker 6: opinion on those practice squad players, So yeah, I mean
- 1:20:23Speaker 6: just what it's come to.
- 1:20:25Speaker 9: Yeah, we also get questions a lot about Caleb Jones.
- 1:20:28Speaker 5: I know, believe me, they're not gonna be any better.
- 1:20:31Speaker 9: This is what the Patriots like ones and twos look like.
- 1:20:34Speaker 9: Imagine what their threes and fours and fives on the
- 1:20:37Speaker 9: practice squad looked like. Let me just put it to
- 1:20:39Speaker 9: you that way.
- 1:20:39Speaker 5: Yeah, it's I know we're we're searching for anything else,
- 1:20:43Speaker 5: but that's not where the answers are going to practice.
- 1:20:47Speaker 13: Rise up like a good one. Back in the day,
- 1:20:53Speaker 13: they gave me picquad and they got better and they
- 1:20:55Speaker 13: kept playing.
- 1:20:56Speaker 9: But Craven LeBlanc, you know there was a.
- 1:21:02Speaker 6: Keep going. I mean they've had guys that have come
- 1:21:04Speaker 6: off the practice squad and contributed, Like, yeah, that's extra
- 1:21:08Speaker 6: special teamers, but they need top line. There's no impact
- 1:21:12Speaker 6: player that you're going off.
- 1:21:13Speaker 5: To practice squad. Thanks Eldrick, appreciate the.
- 1:21:15Speaker 8: Car Jalen Ragers play last night.
- 1:21:19Speaker 5: What did you do?
- 1:21:20Speaker 9: He caught the Chargers. He caught a bomb and then
- 1:21:23Speaker 9: got peanut punched at the end of the run and
- 1:21:26Speaker 9: fumbled like on the goal line and the other team recovered.
- 1:21:29Speaker 9: But it was so Jalen Rager because he like made
- 1:21:31Speaker 9: a great play.
- 1:21:32Speaker 6: Is that how they lost? With him thrown for all
- 1:21:34Speaker 6: those yards? That was part of the I didn't see
- 1:21:37Speaker 6: a single, didn't go out of the end zone. I
- 1:21:40Speaker 6: just saw the highlight. It looked like it went out.
- 1:21:42Speaker 9: Watching we watched most of the Arizona or not the
- 1:21:47Speaker 9: other game, not the airs of the Tampa Bay Baltimore game,
- 1:21:51Speaker 9: but I flipped over to the other game for the
- 1:21:52Speaker 9: fourth quarter and like watching Herbert My that's like my
- 1:21:56Speaker 9: biggest fear for Drake May is that he's gonna play
- 1:22:00Speaker 9: out of his mind, he's gonna have these great games
- 1:22:02Speaker 9: and like you're no one's gonna be uh, you know,
- 1:22:05Speaker 9: thinking that he's not the guy or anything like that.
- 1:22:08Speaker 6: It's a comp that he got a lot.
- 1:22:09Speaker 9: Yeah, but then the team is just not good enough
- 1:22:13Speaker 9: around him and he's losing throwing for four hundred yards
- 1:22:15Speaker 9: and stuff like that. Like that's already happening like on
- 1:22:19Speaker 9: like a little scale, and now like as he gets better,
- 1:22:21Speaker 9: I'm worried that it's just gonna keep having.
- 1:22:23Speaker 6: Can I just use this opportunity. You know, we're talking
- 1:22:25Speaker 6: a little bit about the two Monday night games last night.
- 1:22:28Speaker 5: So public service House.
- 1:22:29Speaker 6: Yeah, it's it's time for another meya Kalpa. And I
- 1:22:32Speaker 6: know I've said this a couple of times during the
- 1:22:34Speaker 6: course of the season, but I was I was pretty
- 1:22:36Speaker 6: strong in my opinion that Dereck Henry was not a
- 1:22:39Speaker 6: great fit for the Baltimore Ravens. As he's about to
- 1:22:43Speaker 6: break Eric Dickerson sing rushing.
- 1:22:45Speaker 9: Record, Yeah, I'm with you.
- 1:22:46Speaker 6: So I just want to say, once again for the record,
- 1:22:48Speaker 6: I was wrong. Yet, well, you don't have feel for
- 1:22:52Speaker 6: running backs plus Derek hen But Derek Henry's impact on
- 1:22:55Speaker 6: that offense has been absolutely immense. Oh yeah, I thought
- 1:22:58Speaker 6: that his style not be a perfect fit. But what
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: it's done is just it's forced them. The defense is
- 1:23:06Speaker 6: to treat him so much differently than you know what
- 1:23:10Speaker 6: the Gus bought. But Gus Edwards and you know the
- 1:23:13Speaker 6: Justice Hills and JK. Dobbins, you know, good you know,
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: good players. But this guy is special. This guy's a
- 1:23:19Speaker 6: Hall of Famer. Obviously still has plenty left from the tank.
- 1:23:22Speaker 6: And did you see did you you didn't watch any
- 1:23:24Speaker 6: of it?
- 1:23:25Speaker 8: I'm legally allowed.
- 1:23:26Speaker 6: To eighty one yard run last night. Oh yeah, you
- 1:23:29Speaker 6: know you geeks, you know, twenty one miles an hour,
- 1:23:32Speaker 6: like don the slide. Yeah, Like, just again, I couldn't
- 1:23:36Speaker 6: have been more wrong. He's been awesome.
- 1:23:38Speaker 9: Yeah I was wrong about that one too, But through
- 1:23:40Speaker 9: seven weeks, I think there's a real case that Lamar
- 1:23:43Speaker 9: is the MVP.
- 1:23:44Speaker 6: Again he was, which is just unbelievab. Yeah, I mean
- 1:23:47Speaker 6: just made it look easy.
- 1:23:48Speaker 8: To somehow you still look at Kansas City and I'm like, well,
- 1:23:51Speaker 8: I'm good luck Baltimore, But like Baltimore, like on paper
- 1:23:54Speaker 8: now is looking better and better and better.
- 1:23:55Speaker 6: But somehow the defense was a mess. Yeah, Baltimore's like
- 1:23:59Speaker 6: the problems on that side of the ball lost Marlon Humphrey.
- 1:24:03Speaker 9: It's a nonsense on defense.
- 1:24:06Speaker 5: Sam from the North Shore Rights in discourse on social
- 1:24:09Speaker 5: media from Patriots fans is ridiculous. Right now, Patriots Nation
- 1:24:14Speaker 5: is expecting this collection of misfit toys to be greater
- 1:24:18Speaker 5: than the sum of the parts. Like the Brady Belichick years,
- 1:24:21Speaker 5: those days are gone. Slap any other's, any other team's
- 1:24:25Speaker 5: logo on this roster and say, yeah, that's a three
- 1:24:27Speaker 5: win team. We're definitely the worst team in the AFC
- 1:24:30Speaker 5: after that Jags loss, and probably the worst in the league.
- 1:24:34Speaker 5: Fans need a reality check that the retool on the
- 1:24:38Speaker 5: Fly with Belichick and Mac failed. This is year one
- 1:24:41Speaker 5: of a down to the Studs rebuild. We're looking at
- 1:24:44Speaker 5: probably three to four seasons before we even sniff the
- 1:24:47Speaker 5: playoffs again. Ps loved the show and shout out to Evan.
- 1:24:51Speaker 5: I'm an Ithaca alumb as well. Go Bombers, Go Bombers.
- 1:24:55Speaker 9: I agree with a lot of that email, not just
- 1:24:56Speaker 9: because he went to Ithaca. I agree with a lot
- 1:24:59Speaker 9: of that email. But there's a standard, like there's a
- 1:25:02Speaker 9: standard of competitiveness they.
- 1:25:05Speaker 6: Have not agree with any of these they haven't been
- 1:25:07Speaker 6: in a competitive game in since Week two.
- 1:25:10Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean they were in against Miami technically, but
- 1:25:13Speaker 9: like during this six sixth game losing streak, Miami's, you know,
- 1:25:17Speaker 9: really the only one that's been overly competitive beside Seattle,
- 1:25:21Speaker 9: I guess. But like, there's a standard, there's a bar
- 1:25:26Speaker 9: of what's acceptable and what's not. No one was expecting
- 1:25:28Speaker 9: them to win a bunch of games. We all picked
- 1:25:29Speaker 9: them to win five games, four games, three games. But
- 1:25:33Speaker 9: there's a level of standard. And I would also strongly
- 1:25:36Speaker 9: disagree that it should take that long.
- 1:25:38Speaker 6: That's the biggest part that I disagree with. That means
- 1:25:40Speaker 6: it failed. Yeah, if you're not a playoff team in
- 1:25:42Speaker 6: the next two or three years, like playoff caliber, then
- 1:25:46Speaker 6: you failed because it shouldn't take that long in that league.
- 1:25:49Speaker 6: I mean, Strake made didn't work, and you don't have.
- 1:25:51Speaker 8: A coach that worked twenty twenty six, it's got to
- 1:25:53Speaker 8: look a lot lot better two full off seasons.
- 1:25:56Speaker 6: You know. But even if you use like Evans example,
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: they just used of Justin Herbert and you'd say, like, okay,
- 1:26:04Speaker 6: well they're a playoff contender. I mean, they might not
- 1:26:08Speaker 6: make the playoffs this year, but they're a playoff contender,
- 1:26:10Speaker 6: and you know they're in the mix. Like, if you
- 1:26:12Speaker 6: can't get to that point in less than three years,
- 1:26:15Speaker 6: then you failed. You know, it shouldn't take three or
- 1:26:19Speaker 6: four more years after this, So you're just at the
- 1:26:23Speaker 6: you know, the standpoint where you can call yourself a playoff.
- 1:26:26Speaker 8: That was the mac Jones rebuild. This is the Drake
- 1:26:28Speaker 8: May and for better or worse, how it's gonna go
- 1:26:30Speaker 8: with him over the next you know, four seasons plus.
- 1:26:32Speaker 6: And the beginning part of the email that I disagreed
- 1:26:34Speaker 6: with is, yeah, I understood that that. I thought if
- 1:26:39Speaker 6: they didn't beat Seattle in Week two, there was a
- 1:26:41Speaker 6: chance they were going to go to London winless. Okay,
- 1:26:44Speaker 6: they obviously won a game that I didn't think they
- 1:26:47Speaker 6: were gonna win Cincinnati. The record is not taking me
- 1:26:50Speaker 6: by surprise at all. Yeah, but the manner in which
- 1:26:53Speaker 6: they're playing these games, and how sloppy they are, and
- 1:26:55Speaker 6: how many penalties they get, and how undisciplined they are,
- 1:26:58Speaker 6: and all the squawking off the field that they do,
- 1:27:00Speaker 6: I did not expect that.
- 1:27:01Speaker 8: No, I mean, but it's a difference between a five
- 1:27:05Speaker 8: and six win team, And this is what a one
- 1:27:06Speaker 8: or two win team looks like right now, this is
- 1:27:09Speaker 8: how bad it.
- 1:27:09Speaker 6: But again it's not necessarily the record, it's how the
- 1:27:13Speaker 6: record is being compiled. Like last year, I thought the
- 1:27:16Speaker 6: team stunk. They easily could have won two, three more games.
- 1:27:21Speaker 6: It wouldn't have changed anything to me. I don't think
- 1:27:23Speaker 6: they were very talented. But this is like, this is
- 1:27:27Speaker 6: a mess right now. I didn't expect it to be
- 1:27:29Speaker 6: to Look, I didn't expect to give up almost two
- 1:27:31Speaker 6: hundred yards rushing, you know, weekly it's the collapse of
- 1:27:34Speaker 6: the team.
- 1:27:35Speaker 9: It is. I keep coming back to it with Mayo,
- 1:27:37Speaker 9: like what what is his program? Like what what is
- 1:27:40Speaker 9: he standing for? And like what is what's the vision here?
- 1:27:44Speaker 9: Because like it's one thing to lose games on the field,
- 1:27:47Speaker 9: but every head coach like has something to hang their
- 1:27:52Speaker 9: hat on. Like maybe he's a culture builder, which is
- 1:27:55Speaker 9: kind of what we got sold on. I would say
- 1:27:57Speaker 9: the most so build the culture. Well, the culture stinks.
- 1:28:02Speaker 9: The culture is falling apart, like you like Paul is saying, like,
- 1:28:05Speaker 9: you know, guys are squawking off the field. Things are
- 1:28:07Speaker 9: happening off the field, So the culture is not good.
- 1:28:10Speaker 9: So we can't say that that's what he's building and
- 1:28:13Speaker 9: then schematically they're not good either. So he's not an
- 1:28:15Speaker 9: ex's a nose guy. He's not a Kyle Shanahan type.
- 1:28:18Speaker 9: That's you know, this wizard on the offensive or defensive
- 1:28:21Speaker 9: side of the ball. So I'm just that's the part
- 1:28:24Speaker 9: that's the most concerning, is like, what what is he
- 1:28:27Speaker 9: bringing to the table right now? If he's not a
- 1:28:30Speaker 9: culture builder or he's not an ex as the nose guy,
- 1:28:33Speaker 9: it's just nothing. And that that's the standard that I'm
- 1:28:35Speaker 9: talking about.
- 1:28:37Speaker 5: Let's see who is this? Bryan says, hoping you'll read this.
- 1:28:43Speaker 5: It was bad enough to lose the chat, but you've
- 1:28:45Speaker 5: cut way back on email reads as well. Well, today's
- 1:28:48Speaker 5: your lucky day fer number one. Time to end the
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: pop joke. Thought he was getting bench heading into the game.
- 1:28:54Speaker 5: Then he gets all those failed targets. Can we get
- 1:28:57Speaker 5: him out of here? I'd even take a couple of
- 1:28:59Speaker 5: bake or snaps at this point, he's had a long
- 1:29:02Speaker 5: naughty chair time out.
- 1:29:03Speaker 6: Why did you think he was getting bench heading into
- 1:29:05Speaker 6: the game.
- 1:29:06Speaker 5: I didn't know that just because of performance. Maybe I
- 1:29:09Speaker 5: don't know.
- 1:29:10Speaker 6: I mean, I didn't think he was going to get benged.
- 1:29:11Speaker 6: I don't think you should have gotten banged.
- 1:29:13Speaker 5: I if you listened to Gerrad, he thinks that this
- 1:29:16Speaker 5: guy is going to be good.
- 1:29:17Speaker 6: Now, maybe you know that the fact that the off
- 1:29:21Speaker 6: field stuff is continuing. Maybe at some point you have
- 1:29:23Speaker 6: to think about that, because that's the only thing that
- 1:29:25Speaker 6: really gets anyone's attention.
- 1:29:28Speaker 9: I think a mental time out would do him a
- 1:29:29Speaker 9: lot of.
- 1:29:30Speaker 5: Yeah, seems like the whole product on the field is
- 1:29:34Speaker 5: completely unacceptable. Fans deserve more. I'm a fanboy who was
- 1:29:37Speaker 5: all signed up for a long, slow rebuild, but thought
- 1:29:40Speaker 5: i'd get a competitive game once in a while. Remember
- 1:29:43Speaker 5: take him to the hill? Well they died on that hill.
- 1:29:46Speaker 5: Some flashes on. Oh but the d is broken. Something
- 1:29:49Speaker 5: big needs to change. But where to start? Which leak
- 1:29:52Speaker 5: do you plug first? Where did Bourne say that we
- 1:29:58Speaker 5: get tired on these long drives?
- 1:30:00Speaker 6: Did he just say that today? No, it's a herald
- 1:30:03Speaker 6: after the game?
- 1:30:03Speaker 5: Oh did he? What's that all about?
- 1:30:06Speaker 6: I don't know. He said that we're not doing what
- 1:30:09Speaker 6: we need to do. I'm paraphrasing, taking care of ourselves
- 1:30:12Speaker 6: off the field, getting in late, not uh, not eating
- 1:30:15Speaker 6: right and blah blah blah.
- 1:30:17Speaker 9: So that's why we could have been talking about, Yeah,
- 1:30:19Speaker 9: well maybe the guy that was sick from hope.
- 1:30:26Speaker 8: I just I was making the joke to Paul Place
- 1:30:28Speaker 8: like like when these teams, like you listen all week
- 1:30:30Speaker 8: and they talk about like Pepper when we're ready, you know,
- 1:30:33Speaker 8: haze the barn, like that kind of thing, and then
- 1:30:34Speaker 8: like this is just the Patriots. There's a lot of teams,
- 1:30:36Speaker 8: but then like they lose and whin five minutes to
- 1:30:38Speaker 8: lose and they're just like we're not doing enough, Like did.
- 1:30:40Speaker 6: You realize that three hours ago?
- 1:30:42Speaker 8: Like or does that just like occur to you in
- 1:30:44Speaker 8: this last game and you're not doing it?
- 1:30:46Speaker 9: Like you know?
- 1:30:46Speaker 8: And I guess there's no other response really other than
- 1:30:48Speaker 8: we just.
- 1:30:49Speaker 6: Got to go back.
- 1:30:50Speaker 9: That's the part that's so disappointing to me is because
- 1:30:52Speaker 9: like I this is that that's the type of stuff
- 1:30:54Speaker 9: that I didn't think Drod Mayo would stand for. Like
- 1:30:58Speaker 9: I felt like that was what he was going to
- 1:31:01Speaker 9: bring to the table, work ethic culture, you know, locker
- 1:31:04Speaker 9: room camaraderie, like.
- 1:31:06Speaker 6: All stick together, like all that.
- 1:31:07Speaker 9: Kind of stuff, and and they just aren't, like they
- 1:31:10Speaker 9: are just coming apart at the seam. And it just
- 1:31:14Speaker 9: I can understand that you're not a Bill Belichick football mind,
- 1:31:17Speaker 9: that you aren't seeing the x's and o's at this
- 1:31:20Speaker 9: like higher plane that no one else can possibly reach.
- 1:31:23Speaker 9: But you got you gotta bring something to the table.
- 1:31:27Speaker 6: Uh.
- 1:31:27Speaker 5: Franklin and Baltimore's says he disagrees with that email. Stop
- 1:31:32Speaker 5: with the straw Man argument that the Patriots fans expected
- 1:31:35Speaker 5: instant gratification. Most fans knew this rebuild was going to
- 1:31:39Speaker 5: result in a bunch of losses, but no one expected
- 1:31:43Speaker 5: further dysfunction, inconsistent messaging, and a nobody jackwagon with Stonehands
- 1:31:48Speaker 5: saying he's the best in the league, Like, come on.
- 1:31:51Speaker 6: So I agree with that. I don't think there's been
- 1:31:53Speaker 6: a lot of people that are like stunged that they
- 1:31:55Speaker 6: want in six like, oh my god, we wanted they're
- 1:31:58Speaker 6: getting blown up. Under was like four and a half
- 1:32:02Speaker 6: for wins. The win the win total in Vegas, right, Like,
- 1:32:05Speaker 6: I don't think there's a lot of people's stunts that
- 1:32:07Speaker 6: they're having a hard time winning games. They're stunned at
- 1:32:09Speaker 6: the manner in which it's taking place. Like, I don't
- 1:32:12Speaker 6: think people expected the amount of mistakes every week that
- 1:32:17Speaker 6: are just being repeated that are not they don't take talent.
- 1:32:20Speaker 6: It's the Austin Hooper thing. I go back to Hooper
- 1:32:23Speaker 6: in the preseason. Hooper drives the boat mic.
- 1:32:25Speaker 8: Right, And then I don't think you'd feel as sad
- 1:32:27Speaker 8: about it if you felt like the team was all
- 1:32:29Speaker 8: kind of together at least, And you know, and I
- 1:32:32Speaker 8: know a lot of teams they start to lose and
- 1:32:34Speaker 8: it starts to come apart. And but I just I mean,
- 1:32:36Speaker 8: like I look at gotchawing a quality. I mean, to me,
- 1:32:38Speaker 8: almost feels like they're like talking to each other through
- 1:32:41Speaker 8: the press, like someone I want, you know, quality saying
- 1:32:44Speaker 8: some guys have higher opinions than themselves, and you know,
- 1:32:46Speaker 8: and you know, it's.
- 1:32:48Speaker 9: Just like that.
- 1:32:48Speaker 8: I mean, who else is who else can have a
- 1:32:50Speaker 8: higher opinion themselves on the defense?
- 1:32:52Speaker 9: Then I mean, he's the only guy that has.
- 1:32:55Speaker 6: And I get it, Like listen, I don't watch The
- 1:32:57Speaker 6: All twenty two, and this for once, I'm not making
- 1:33:00Speaker 6: fun of you. I don't watch The All twenty two.
- 1:33:02Speaker 6: And I know that he is very highly rated analytically
- 1:33:06Speaker 6: to von gotcha right, But I'm sorry, when you're in
- 1:33:09Speaker 6: the middle of a defense that allows two hundred yards rushing,
- 1:33:12Speaker 6: I don't care how good you are. You're not doing
- 1:33:13Speaker 6: your job like something is happening. That's that's allowing this
- 1:33:17Speaker 6: to break down. You can't take your bows, even if
- 1:33:20Speaker 6: you're doing your job every play, it's not the time
- 1:33:24Speaker 6: to take a bow. So I can understand it. If
- 1:33:26Speaker 6: you're right, Mike, and a Quality is kind of talking
- 1:33:28Speaker 6: about his guy that's lined up.
- 1:33:30Speaker 8: I'm just trying to read between the lines. But it's
- 1:33:32Speaker 8: to me, it's like with these guys, it's like sometimes
- 1:33:34Speaker 8: they make plays. It's like, you know, sometimes Daniel Quality
- 1:33:36Speaker 8: plays okay, and then like.
- 1:33:39Speaker 6: A couple of plays, Anthony Jennings is like in.
- 1:33:41Speaker 9: The backfield, had some times for loss, like.
- 1:33:44Speaker 6: I don't see him going out.
- 1:33:45Speaker 8: I'm setting my edge maddening, And yeah, they can do
- 1:33:48Speaker 8: it at times. I would just say, like one thing
- 1:33:50Speaker 8: about change, Like I would explore options that middle linebacker
- 1:33:53Speaker 8: out there, whatever's out there, I would consider it. I
- 1:33:56Speaker 8: just I mean, I mean why or something. Now, I
- 1:33:58Speaker 8: would just try to throw somebody in there for competent play.
- 1:34:01Speaker 6: But you can't give anything up.
- 1:34:02Speaker 8: No, I'm not saying I would. I'm not saying go
- 1:34:05Speaker 8: and trade. I would just look for answers. I would
- 1:34:07Speaker 8: start turning over.
- 1:34:07Speaker 6: I would try to acquire as many draft picks as
- 1:34:09Speaker 6: they can because.
- 1:34:10Speaker 8: I mean, and I'm not saying that that's gonna make
- 1:34:11Speaker 8: a difference. I mean, this guy might be you know,
- 1:34:14Speaker 8: somebody who's almost out of the league. But I just
- 1:34:15Speaker 8: I think that the level of play behind these guys,
- 1:34:18Speaker 8: like the front, I feel like at times you see
- 1:34:20Speaker 8: them make plays, and you see them like I think,
- 1:34:22Speaker 8: you're not capable of doing it at times. It's just
- 1:34:24Speaker 8: never consistent.
- 1:34:24Speaker 9: But the second level, I don't see them.
- 1:34:26Speaker 5: Every team has players that at times makes a play
- 1:34:31Speaker 5: out there.
- 1:34:31Speaker 8: I mean, but well, I say, the line are not
- 1:34:34Speaker 8: are not capable of.
- 1:34:36Speaker 5: You got to do it, you know, to get off
- 1:34:38Speaker 5: the field. You can't just do a one pro drive.
- 1:34:41Speaker 9: I agree with Mike on this so much. With the line.
- 1:34:43Speaker 9: The linebacker play is deplorable. Like I I don't like,
- 1:34:46Speaker 9: I don't even know what word to use.
- 1:34:48Speaker 6: Like it is, that's a good one. It is.
- 1:34:50Speaker 8: It's what it looks like when a team doesn't have
- 1:34:52Speaker 8: linebackers who make plays. I mean, that's you know, usually
- 1:34:55Speaker 8: the functional lineback.
- 1:34:57Speaker 6: So we're just putting this down so and and I
- 1:34:59Speaker 6: like your Bentley, but we're just like you take one
- 1:35:01Speaker 6: guy out and they just don't have NFL. No.
- 1:35:05Speaker 9: I actually think a lot of it though, you know,
- 1:35:07Speaker 9: like in their defense. And again I said the beginning
- 1:35:09Speaker 9: of the show, like I think Jelani Devi is a
- 1:35:11Speaker 9: good player, Like, so I don't think that. I think
- 1:35:12Speaker 9: this is more about usage with ta VI than it
- 1:35:15Speaker 9: is about his talent level. But it all feeds together,
- 1:35:19Speaker 9: especially in the two gapping system where if the guys
- 1:35:22Speaker 9: up front aren't eating those blocks and they're not doing
- 1:35:24Speaker 9: their jobs on the line of scrimmage, now those blockers
- 1:35:27Speaker 9: are getting up to the second level and they're getting
- 1:35:29Speaker 9: on the linebackers, and now the linebackers are dealing with that.
- 1:35:33Speaker 6: So that's I think it's everybody.
- 1:35:35Speaker 9: It all feeds together into each other. But I just
- 1:35:38Speaker 9: look at the linebackers right now, and it's when they
- 1:35:41Speaker 9: do get me met by blocker, like they can't get
- 1:35:44Speaker 9: off blocks, and sometimes they're getting blocked by like tight ends,
- 1:35:48Speaker 9: like it's not even getting blocked by by offensive linemen,
- 1:35:52Speaker 9: and not to mention the issues that they have in
- 1:35:54Speaker 9: coverage at that spot. But I don't think it's just Bentley.
- 1:35:57Speaker 9: I think bar more, you know, clogging up space and
- 1:36:00Speaker 9: taking on guys and defeating blocks is a big thing.
- 1:36:03Speaker 9: I think Jabriel Peppers coming downhill at the line of
- 1:36:07Speaker 9: scrimmage and blowing up plays is a big deal and
- 1:36:09Speaker 9: not having those I was.
- 1:36:10Speaker 6: Just talking specifically about the linebacker play.
- 1:36:13Speaker 5: About how about you know, I mean, it wasn't great
- 1:36:16Speaker 5: in this last year or two, but Lawrence.
- 1:36:18Speaker 9: Guy, Yeah, it could be part of it too. Like
- 1:36:21Speaker 9: I just Bentley to me, if you want to look
- 1:36:24Speaker 9: at specifically Bentley and the linebackers, it's it's almost like
- 1:36:27Speaker 9: they got worse at two positions because Bentley comes off
- 1:36:32Speaker 9: the field, so Devi has to go to Bentley's spot,
- 1:36:34Speaker 9: and then now Devi's position is worse because Devi is
- 1:36:36Speaker 9: not playing his spike.
- 1:36:37Speaker 6: And I talked about that in the pregame show like
- 1:36:41Speaker 6: three or four weeks ago.
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:36:42Speaker 8: Yeah, I just think Tavia, like Jets game, I think
- 1:36:45Speaker 8: he is a good player, and I just I think
- 1:36:46Speaker 8: there isn't a player on the roster right now that
- 1:36:49Speaker 8: can allow him to go back to being that good player.
- 1:36:51Speaker 8: And he's just gonna have to fight through it and
- 1:36:53Speaker 8: try to figure out how to operate inside, how to
- 1:36:55Speaker 8: get you know, through blocks. It's not his thing, and
- 1:36:58Speaker 8: it's just and I think, like the jumping off side stuff,
- 1:37:00Speaker 8: like talked about how angry he was all last week,
- 1:37:03Speaker 8: Like it just feels like he is swimming it right now.
- 1:37:05Speaker 8: It's all on him. There's no one to really help him,
- 1:37:08Speaker 8: and he feels like he can't really do it, and
- 1:37:10Speaker 8: I just it's got to be really frustrating. It's frustrating
- 1:37:12Speaker 8: to watch, and I feel for him because I do
- 1:37:14Speaker 8: agree with Evan that he can play.
- 1:37:15Speaker 5: But I mean, let's face it, this is where you
- 1:37:18Speaker 5: miss Bill Belichick the most. You know, his ability with
- 1:37:23Speaker 5: duct tape in bailing wire was better than any.
- 1:37:26Speaker 6: That's Evans's point, Like, you know, you're supposed to be
- 1:37:28Speaker 6: a defensive minded coach. You should be doing something to
- 1:37:31Speaker 6: fix this, because again, I don't think stopping the run
- 1:37:34Speaker 6: is just about talent, Like this should not be happening.
- 1:37:38Speaker 6: You should be able to scheme it up and say
- 1:37:39Speaker 6: you're not running anymore, do something else. I'm gonna make
- 1:37:42Speaker 6: you do something else, but you're not. Like, if you're
- 1:37:44Speaker 6: Anthony Jennings, could you come after this game and say
- 1:37:47Speaker 6: they didn't run anything wide, Everything was between the tackles.
- 1:37:51Speaker 6: They're running right at the gut right at you. They're not.
- 1:37:53Speaker 6: They're not disguising anything. They're not sending multiple guys, you know, misdirection.
- 1:37:58Speaker 6: It was just lining up and pounding the ball straight
- 1:38:01Speaker 6: ahead and they couldn't stop it. Like you should be
- 1:38:03Speaker 6: able to scheme that and just say you're not doing
- 1:38:05Speaker 6: it that way anymore.
- 1:38:06Speaker 9: Yeah, I just wonder, you know, with the way that
- 1:38:10Speaker 9: they've always been a two gapping front. They've always been
- 1:38:13Speaker 9: that way. But if you don't have the horses to
- 1:38:15Speaker 9: two gap, and they don't have guys that can take
- 1:38:18Speaker 9: on those blocks and hold up those blocks and plug
- 1:38:20Speaker 9: multiple gaps and things like that, like they got to
- 1:38:24Speaker 9: be more aggressive, Like.
- 1:38:26Speaker 5: Maybe you change there how you do it. You don't
- 1:38:29Speaker 5: two gap it.
- 1:38:29Speaker 9: Right exactly like what I'm saying, Like, you know, if
- 1:38:32Speaker 9: you have I think one thing that stands out to
- 1:38:34Speaker 9: me with their they're pretty small in the front seven now,
- 1:38:38Speaker 9: like they you know, Christian Ellis is playing a ton
- 1:38:41Speaker 9: and he's really not a thumper, Like he's not, you know,
- 1:38:44Speaker 9: a two hundred and fifty pound linebacker. You know, some
- 1:38:47Speaker 9: of these other guys like jaquainn Roy has played pretty
- 1:38:50Speaker 9: well for considering where he came from. And the fact
- 1:38:52Speaker 9: he's a practice squad guy, but they're like playing him
- 1:38:54Speaker 9: some nose tackle. He's not a nose tackle. He's not
- 1:38:57Speaker 9: that big. He's not you know, God shows high even
- 1:39:00Speaker 9: or you know, even bigger than that. So like, let
- 1:39:03Speaker 9: some of those guys get up the field, Like, yeah,
- 1:39:04Speaker 9: they might miss sometimes, but at least they might make
- 1:39:07Speaker 9: some plays in the backfield every once in a while.
- 1:39:09Speaker 8: I think this is the hard thing with I mean,
- 1:39:11Speaker 8: there's a number of things that are hard with moving
- 1:39:13Speaker 8: on from Bill, but this defense was built a certain way,
- 1:39:16Speaker 8: and it was kind of at Bill's disposal to use it,
- 1:39:19Speaker 8: to deploy it as he saw fit from week to week.
- 1:39:22Speaker 8: But ultimately, you never really had a defense that had
- 1:39:24Speaker 8: a pure base. Now this is what we are. You know,
- 1:39:27Speaker 8: a lot of teams, you just look at them. They're
- 1:39:28Speaker 8: a four to three defense. Their two defensive ends are
- 1:39:30Speaker 8: going to rush the pad. We've seen a couple of
- 1:39:32Speaker 8: them over the last couple of weeks. That's who those
- 1:39:34Speaker 8: defenses are. And so it's just it's so hard to
- 1:39:36Speaker 8: pass the baton on that kind of defense when really
- 1:39:39Speaker 8: the skill of the defense was that they could kind
- 1:39:41Speaker 8: of do what they wanted to and now you're trying
- 1:39:43Speaker 8: to ask a new defensive coordinator to deploy what he wants,
- 1:39:47Speaker 8: but with limited amounts of pieces, and there's nothing that
- 1:39:49Speaker 8: they can go back to. It's not like, you know,
- 1:39:51Speaker 8: we've seen him try to go back to the three
- 1:39:52Speaker 8: four defense.
- 1:39:53Speaker 5: That's what you know.
- 1:39:54Speaker 8: When Bill's defenses would get run on and they were
- 1:39:56Speaker 8: getting gashed, they go back to the three to four
- 1:39:58Speaker 8: their base defense. Their first sy installed. This is how
- 1:40:00Speaker 8: we stopped the run, and they would stop the run
- 1:40:02Speaker 8: to passepoint, that's what.
- 1:40:03Speaker 6: They would do.
- 1:40:04Speaker 8: They don't they don't have that. They have nothing to
- 1:40:06Speaker 8: kind of lean on. And I wonder, as Ellie Wolf
- 1:40:09Speaker 8: has to try to rebuild this defense next year, what
- 1:40:11Speaker 8: do you rebuild to because there's not really a set
- 1:40:14Speaker 8: formula of what we need this pass rushing defensive, Like
- 1:40:17Speaker 8: you really could say you need anything right now with
- 1:40:19Speaker 8: this defense. You could take any kind of tackle would
- 1:40:20Speaker 8: fit for Bill. He would use any of those things.
- 1:40:23Speaker 8: So and I look at the linebacker position too, Bentley,
- 1:40:25Speaker 8: I mean I really like Bentley. I wouldn't say I
- 1:40:28Speaker 8: love him and think that he is one of those
- 1:40:30Speaker 8: Ray Lewis type, you know, game changing inside linebackers. But
- 1:40:33Speaker 8: what do you do with that position now?
- 1:40:34Speaker 6: I mean, I because you've seen.
- 1:40:35Speaker 8: What happens without him, You're gonna need at least somebody
- 1:40:38Speaker 8: waiting in the wings who has some size that can
- 1:40:40Speaker 8: do what you want to do. But I think they
- 1:40:42Speaker 8: might have to redefine what their defensive philosophy of the Newton.
- 1:40:44Speaker 9: Patriots, Well, but what is there, Like they don't have one?
- 1:40:48Speaker 8: Yeah, that's what I mean, you define it.
- 1:40:50Speaker 9: And like maybe that used to like to your point,
- 1:40:52Speaker 9: that used to work in the past, where they could
- 1:40:54Speaker 9: just go game plan the game plan. But I think
- 1:40:55Speaker 9: the frustrating part to me with their defense now is that,
- 1:40:59Speaker 9: like you can't do that, So, like, can we find
- 1:41:02Speaker 9: two things that you're good at and just keep doing
- 1:41:05Speaker 9: those two things, Like if you're good at stopping in
- 1:41:07Speaker 9: the run in one front or one personnel grouping, or
- 1:41:10Speaker 9: you're good in third down and one you know, type
- 1:41:13Speaker 9: of coverage or whatever, just run it. Yeah, Like and
- 1:41:16Speaker 9: at this point, I I there's other defenses and there's
- 1:41:19Speaker 9: other systems, and you always go back to those Seattle teams.
- 1:41:22Speaker 9: They ran the same coverage all game long. They never changed.
- 1:41:27Speaker 9: They ran the same coverage, but they had great players
- 1:41:30Speaker 9: running that defense, so they didn't need to be this
- 1:41:33Speaker 9: like a meeba, you know, disguise heavy. Yeah, they ran
- 1:41:38Speaker 9: Mabel every single play like it was just like the
- 1:41:41Speaker 9: same thing.
- 1:41:41Speaker 6: Bill used to say that about the Giants. You know,
- 1:41:44Speaker 6: when he was with the Giants, Parcels would get on
- 1:41:46Speaker 6: him because he always wanted to tinker. And then the
- 1:41:48Speaker 6: way games they would just come out and play literally
- 1:41:50Speaker 6: ninety five percent of the time in base defense with
- 1:41:53Speaker 6: two deep safety.
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: They were so good.
- 1:41:56Speaker 6: Yeah, they didn't have to do it.
- 1:41:57Speaker 5: Micah from South Dakota, how much effect do you think
- 1:42:01Speaker 5: to Mario Douglas being out in the middle of the
- 1:42:02Speaker 5: game had on Drake May and the offense. I think
- 1:42:05Speaker 5: it's pretty clear that Man Douglas have the best chemistry together.
- 1:42:09Speaker 5: So it makes me wonder if May not having his
- 1:42:11Speaker 5: guy on the field caused him to not play as
- 1:42:13Speaker 5: well in the middle part of the field. Also, if
- 1:42:16Speaker 5: we ever find a run game, then this offense could
- 1:42:19Speaker 5: easily be a mid level NFL offense scoring twenty one
- 1:42:22Speaker 5: to twenty eight points.
- 1:42:23Speaker 9: I love how the bar is just like, let's get
- 1:42:25Speaker 9: to sixteenth in the league, let's get mid level. Yeah,
- 1:42:28Speaker 9: it was a big deal. Douglas being out and Drake
- 1:42:30Speaker 9: May's numbers against man coverage tanked completely once Douglas was,
- 1:42:35Speaker 9: you know, out in and out of the lineup. He
- 1:42:38Speaker 9: hit him on that third down very early on in
- 1:42:40Speaker 9: the game against man to man and they couldn't really
- 1:42:42Speaker 9: make any plays other than the booty throw against man coverage.
- 1:42:46Speaker 9: So it was definitely a big deal that they didn't
- 1:42:50Speaker 9: have him in there. And I'm sure that you know
- 1:42:53Speaker 9: he's really the one guy that against man to man
- 1:42:55Speaker 9: like he can get open and he can separate, and
- 1:42:57Speaker 9: he can make plays.
- 1:42:59Speaker 8: They needed the receiver remerch. I mean, whether it's Born,
- 1:43:02Speaker 8: whether it's Polk, whether it's I mean, one of those
- 1:43:04Speaker 8: guys just has to step up and do something they're
- 1:43:07Speaker 8: not gonna get by throwing just to Hunter, Henry and
- 1:43:10Speaker 8: Douglas in the middle of the field and the checkdowns
- 1:43:11Speaker 8: to the back.
- 1:43:12Speaker 5: It's it's not enough.
- 1:43:13Speaker 8: You need an outside receiver to do to do something.
- 1:43:16Speaker 8: I mean, you hope that Bourne is gonna come on,
- 1:43:19Speaker 8: but again, it takes a little time with these kind
- 1:43:22Speaker 8: of injuries, and you probably are gonna expect some ups
- 1:43:24Speaker 8: and downs from him.
- 1:43:25Speaker 2: Regardless.
- 1:43:25Speaker 6: The more players you have, obviously the better, Like it's not.
- 1:43:28Speaker 6: It doesn't help your offense that one of the guys
- 1:43:30Speaker 6: that you probably went into the game plan, Douglas being
- 1:43:35Speaker 6: a part of you know, he's out in the middle
- 1:43:37Speaker 6: of the game. But like, that's not why you go
- 1:43:40Speaker 6: into the tank. You know, it doesn't help certainly doesn't help.
- 1:43:43Speaker 6: You need them, you need They don't have enough good
- 1:43:45Speaker 6: players to be able to afford to lose a good player.
- 1:43:48Speaker 9: So can I go on on one mini rant about
- 1:43:51Speaker 9: about the run game and all that? Though I would
- 1:43:54Speaker 9: like to take their play action playbook and fire it
- 1:43:57Speaker 9: to the sun. I think it's awful. I don't think
- 1:44:01Speaker 9: the routes make any sense whatsoever. I don't think that
- 1:44:04Speaker 9: the scheme marries up at all. They are running wide
- 1:44:10Speaker 9: zone play action plays off of you know, straight draw
- 1:44:14Speaker 9: back gap type of run concepts. There, their route spacing
- 1:44:19Speaker 9: on play action.
- 1:44:20Speaker 6: Their rout spacing period to me makes me scratch my
- 1:44:22Speaker 6: head a lot.
- 1:44:23Speaker 9: Yeah, their rout spacing on play action, particularly on Sunday,
- 1:44:27Speaker 9: was horrible. Like the very first play of the game,
- 1:44:30Speaker 9: they run a play action drop and they have like
- 1:44:32Speaker 9: a deep curl with a crosser that is going right
- 1:44:35Speaker 9: into the crop, and I'm just like you know what
- 1:44:38Speaker 9: are we doing?
- 1:44:39Speaker 6: Surprisingly, Drake had to scramble on that play.
- 1:44:41Speaker 9: Yeah, And so he's looking at it and he's trying
- 1:44:44Speaker 9: to read, like to see you know, curl to cross,
- 1:44:46Speaker 9: and like I, he's looking at it and he's like,
- 1:44:49Speaker 9: where would you like me to go with this football?
- 1:44:51Speaker 9: Right now? Then they ran the bootleg play where Hunter
- 1:44:53Speaker 9: Henry and Jalen Polk nearly ran into each other, and
- 1:44:56Speaker 9: the one that Pulk dropped right, and it just none
- 1:45:00Speaker 9: of it makes any sense, Like this offense is absolutely
- 1:45:03Speaker 9: begging for them to pull a guard and just run
- 1:45:05Speaker 9: the tight end right behind the linebacker and throw it
- 1:45:08Speaker 9: right behind his ear. Like it just I don't understand
- 1:45:11Speaker 9: any of it. And it's like so surprising to me
- 1:45:13Speaker 9: because Cleveland runs a lot of the same stuff really
- 1:45:16Speaker 9: really well. So I don't really understand how last year
- 1:45:19Speaker 9: in Cleveland it looked great and now this year they
- 1:45:21Speaker 9: can't run it at all with the Patriots. But their
- 1:45:24Speaker 9: play action concepts are just brutal.
- 1:45:27Speaker 5: Back to the tpx houtline Sean's and Vancouver, what's up Sean?
- 1:45:33Speaker 10: Hey?
- 1:45:34Speaker 13: Everyone?
- 1:45:35Speaker 22: One play I'd like to see the Patriots move away
- 1:45:37Speaker 22: from is running up the middle on first down.
- 1:45:40Speaker 14: They tried it like nine times earleat any morning.
- 1:45:42Speaker 6: They did not.
- 1:45:44Speaker 9: No, you look, look at the games I did.
- 1:45:47Speaker 6: I got the numbers their first their first down runs
- 1:45:51Speaker 6: they didn't have. They didn't have a ton of them,
- 1:45:52Speaker 6: and in the second half they had none. I think
- 1:45:55Speaker 6: they had one first down run the whole the entire
- 1:45:57Speaker 6: second half. But they didn't run the ball as much
- 1:46:01Speaker 6: as you think they did. This is I was a
- 1:46:03Speaker 6: little prepared for this because it was all Alex van
- 1:46:06Speaker 6: Pelt's fault that the offense didn't do anything. And I
- 1:46:10Speaker 6: might sound a little defensive. I'm not trying to be
- 1:46:12Speaker 6: defensive because I agree with a lot of the stuff
- 1:46:14Speaker 6: that Evan said. I'm confused by their route patterns at times.
- 1:46:17Speaker 6: I'm not a nexus and nose guy. I don't break
- 1:46:19Speaker 6: it down, but there's too many times that I just
- 1:46:21Speaker 6: watch and there's two receivers in the general vicinity of
- 1:46:24Speaker 6: each other. That's something I complained about last year. It's
- 1:46:26Speaker 6: something I complained about even more the year before that,
- 1:46:29Speaker 6: because it looked like they looked like they didn't have
- 1:46:31Speaker 6: any spacing to the offense. Like so, I'm not telling
- 1:46:34Speaker 6: you Alex van Pelt doesn't deserve to have criticism. They
- 1:46:37Speaker 6: didn't run the ball as much as people are blaming
- 1:46:39Speaker 6: the self destruction of the offense.
- 1:46:41Speaker 5: No, I think pretty much they realized they can't run.
- 1:46:44Speaker 6: They couldn't run, and they didn't really try.
- 1:46:45Speaker 9: They had one series in the second quarter where they
- 1:46:47Speaker 9: went negative run, negative screen, third and long punt. But
- 1:46:51Speaker 9: like in general, I didn't think the play sequencing was
- 1:46:54Speaker 9: the problem. It's just that what's happening is like the
- 1:46:57Speaker 9: second level of every defense is flying downhill at the
- 1:46:59Speaker 9: line a scrimmage when they're under center. They are just
- 1:47:02Speaker 9: they are not respecting any play action because the Patriots
- 1:47:06Speaker 9: think at it. So they just run right at the
- 1:47:08Speaker 9: line of scrimmage. And until you start to script some
- 1:47:10Speaker 9: play action plays that actually, you know, get the defense
- 1:47:14Speaker 9: to to pay for that, then they're not going to
- 1:47:16Speaker 9: be able to run the ball. Like the run game
- 1:47:18Speaker 9: is all about numbers and physicality upfront, Like it's it's
- 1:47:22Speaker 9: not like scheme is not really where you're going when
- 1:47:26Speaker 9: it comes to the run game, it's a numbers game.
- 1:47:28Speaker 9: How many guys do we have on that side of
- 1:47:29Speaker 9: the ball versus how many defenders do they have for
- 1:47:32Speaker 9: us to block? And what's happening is that these teams
- 1:47:35Speaker 9: are just funneling fast to the football and they can't
- 1:47:38Speaker 9: play action off of it. So that's why I brought
- 1:47:40Speaker 9: up the play action stuff, because if they start hitting
- 1:47:41Speaker 9: some play action plays, then you can't do that with
- 1:47:44Speaker 9: your linebackers. They have to start respecting that.
- 1:47:46Speaker 6: So five of their first down runs came when the
- 1:47:49Speaker 6: first two drives. What happened on those two drives? The
- 1:47:55Speaker 6: score points. Yeah, So like Evan's exactly right. They came out,
- 1:48:01Speaker 6: you know, on first down on the third possession, first
- 1:48:04Speaker 6: play was a pass. Now they get a pass in
- 1:48:07Speaker 6: Afferance on it, so they get another first down. Now
- 1:48:09Speaker 6: they run, they get minus one. They passed twice after that.
- 1:48:14Speaker 6: Like it's like the blaming of the offensive lack of
- 1:48:18Speaker 6: production on on they just ran the ball too many.
- 1:48:21Speaker 6: I got an dream a big head about this yesterday, Andy,
- 1:48:23Speaker 6: because Andy, Andy makes Evan look like a hater of
- 1:48:26Speaker 6: Drake May right now. He is so in love with
- 1:48:28Speaker 6: Drake May. It's it's a little to do that. It's
- 1:48:32Speaker 6: off putting, to be honest with you, because he's so negative.
- 1:48:35Speaker 5: He'll have his jersey on, but like he.
- 1:48:36Speaker 6: Goes, well, maybe if they didn't you know, they didn't
- 1:48:38Speaker 6: bog down the offense, but on the all on their own.
- 1:48:41Speaker 6: I'm like, what are you talking about, like bogged down
- 1:48:43Speaker 6: the offense. I went back and I looked, and I
- 1:48:45Speaker 6: highlighted all of the first down runs. Like they didn't
- 1:48:49Speaker 6: run the ball at all in the second half like that.
- 1:48:51Speaker 6: I think they ran twice in the entirety of the.
- 1:48:53Speaker 8: Second one possession in the third quarter because of that
- 1:48:56Speaker 8: long drive.
- 1:48:57Speaker 9: That passes in this game, they had negative two rushing
- 1:49:01Speaker 9: yards before contact negative too. They were going.
- 1:49:05Speaker 6: Backwards and that's why they ran the ball twelve times
- 1:49:08Speaker 6: in the game. Like they didn't try to run into
- 1:49:11Speaker 6: the brick wall. They had no success really doing it,
- 1:49:14Speaker 6: and Van Pelt didn't try to stay with it, like
- 1:49:16Speaker 6: it didn't work. But like you can't just throw the
- 1:49:19Speaker 6: ball every single play right right, Like oh you can,
- 1:49:23Speaker 6: well not until the end, like you're down two scores
- 1:49:26Speaker 6: in the end, which you down two scores because you
- 1:49:29Speaker 6: opted to be in the fourth quarter, so you knew
- 1:49:32Speaker 6: how you would be able to unfold, you know, the
- 1:49:34Speaker 6: last eight minutes. But just to find I get a
- 1:49:38Speaker 6: little annoyed with the hole they ran the ball too much.
- 1:49:40Speaker 6: There's too many first down runs like you have to
- 1:49:44Speaker 6: run the ball sometimes when the game is still in
- 1:49:46Speaker 6: the balance, when they're up ten to nothing, like we
- 1:49:50Speaker 6: need to just throw the ball every play. They ran
- 1:49:52Speaker 6: it once on that next drive once.
- 1:49:55Speaker 9: The way they play that they can't play action. It
- 1:49:59Speaker 9: drives me not It's like everybody's stacking the box. Everybody's
- 1:50:03Speaker 9: firing guys at the line of scrimmage, and yet they
- 1:50:05Speaker 9: can't get a linebacker to bite on play action and
- 1:50:08Speaker 9: it hit something behind him, Like, I just I'm sorry, Sam,
- 1:50:11Speaker 9: what's up, Sam?
- 1:50:13Speaker 5: Sam?
- 1:50:16Speaker 6: It's up? Yep, keep going the big fan.
- 1:50:21Speaker 22: I've been listening to you guys in twenty thirteen.
- 1:50:23Speaker 13: Big thing you guys.
- 1:50:24Speaker 22: I have two questions, one about Drake May and then
- 1:50:26Speaker 22: one about the two point conversion Paul, I want to
- 1:50:28Speaker 22: get into that with you.
- 1:50:28Speaker 6: Okay, nothing he did.
- 1:50:29Speaker 22: I don't feel strongly one way or the other. But yeah,
- 1:50:32Speaker 22: so for Drake May, I want I question for Evan
- 1:50:36Speaker 22: on that last interceptible pass that he was throwing at
- 1:50:38Speaker 22: Hooper towards the end zone. Is it fair to say
- 1:50:40Speaker 22: that Hooper read that wrong and he should have actually
- 1:50:42Speaker 22: stopped it. May make the right decisions.
- 1:50:45Speaker 9: Yeah, it's the way I saw it, and I didn't
- 1:50:48Speaker 9: count that as a as a turnover worthy play for Drake.
- 1:50:52Speaker 9: The cart cross or to Osborne should have been a
- 1:50:55Speaker 9: pick six and not one definitely counts. But the one
- 1:50:58Speaker 9: to Hooper Henry ran the same exact route earlier in
- 1:51:01Speaker 9: the game and ran the route correctly for completion. Uh,
- 1:51:05Speaker 9: the one that Hooper ran, I I don't I don't
- 1:51:08Speaker 9: know how they're coaching it, but just based off of
- 1:51:11Speaker 9: what you hear, you know that that route usually you
- 1:51:14Speaker 9: want to settle someplace in that void of the zone
- 1:51:17Speaker 9: instead of continuing on with the corner.
- 1:51:20Speaker 22: Okay, cool, because I heard I've heard people say he
- 1:51:22Speaker 22: had like two interceptible passes, and I definitely agree on
- 1:51:24Speaker 22: the one that the Osborne, but I thought the second
- 1:51:26Speaker 22: one was definitely not on him. I thought he made
- 1:51:28Speaker 22: the right sision.
- 1:51:30Speaker 6: It may not have been on him, but it was
- 1:51:31Speaker 6: an interceptible pass. It hit the guy in the hands.
- 1:51:34Speaker 22: Yeah, of course, I'm just getting his play, Like when
- 1:51:37Speaker 22: he makes that decision, obviously he's not expecting you know.
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:51:40Speaker 6: No, totally fair, totally fair.
- 1:51:42Speaker 22: And I feel like I'm taking crazy pills because, like
- 1:51:44Speaker 22: I should, we should be ecstatic you know, we just
- 1:51:46Speaker 22: won the lottery. In my opinion with Drake May, like,
- 1:51:48Speaker 22: you know, we have the third quarterback.
- 1:51:49Speaker 9: And it's not just me.
- 1:51:50Speaker 22: We hit off the part. You know, it's like hundred
- 1:51:54Speaker 22: million dollars and someone says, yeah, but they're actually gonna
- 1:51:55Speaker 22: attack like sixty million. So okay, so I get forty
- 1:51:57Speaker 22: million dollars, it's still amazing, Like what the heck we're
- 1:52:00Speaker 22: doing amazing?
- 1:52:01Speaker 5: So I don't know, but what if you got forty
- 1:52:03Speaker 5: million dollars and you're not allowed to spend it? But anyway,
- 1:52:06Speaker 5: go ahead, Sam, what what's your two point thing? Okay?
- 1:52:10Speaker 22: So my thing with Paul is like, so as long
- 1:52:12Speaker 22: as we start with your basis of it, if you
- 1:52:13Speaker 22: fail at two point conversion with eight minutes left, or
- 1:52:15Speaker 22: you fail at two point conversion with thirty seconds left,
- 1:52:17Speaker 22: you're probably not gonna win. We're both agree on that, right.
- 1:52:20Speaker 22: So my second point is like I just well hits
- 1:52:23Speaker 22: the argument. But if you have more information, like obviously,
- 1:52:26Speaker 22: like when the pictures got the ball back down nine,
- 1:52:28Speaker 22: I believe there's like four minutes left, aren't they gonna
- 1:52:31Speaker 22: aren't they gonna be more aggressive and they're gonna try
- 1:52:32Speaker 22: to score more quickly before the two minute warnings versus
- 1:52:35Speaker 22: they say, let's say they were down eight, they might
- 1:52:37Speaker 22: take their time more, have a more methodical drive because
- 1:52:40Speaker 22: they don't know if they're gonna want to score too early,
- 1:52:42Speaker 22: you know what I mean?
- 1:52:42Speaker 6: Because then it shouldn't be. That shouldn't be. But the
- 1:52:47Speaker 6: first thing that you know, why should you have more
- 1:52:49Speaker 6: urgency down down one or the other? You have to score.
- 1:52:52Speaker 6: You either score or you lose.
- 1:52:54Speaker 22: Point if you're a scoring range. Right, let's say like
- 1:52:56Speaker 22: they cross the fifty with like a two minutes and
- 1:52:58Speaker 22: fifty seventh left or something right, So you're gonna want
- 1:53:01Speaker 22: to take more.
- 1:53:01Speaker 6: Time down Okay, can I can I stop you for
- 1:53:03Speaker 6: a second? Sam? So if you're down nine, why are
- 1:53:08Speaker 6: you crossing the fifty with the ball with two fifty left?
- 1:53:10Speaker 6: But if you're down eight, you're scoring with no time left.
- 1:53:14Speaker 6: That's the part that I don't get, Because you're.
- 1:53:17Speaker 22: Gonna have more urgency to one to four quicker because
- 1:53:18Speaker 22: you know you need to be on site kick whereas
- 1:53:21Speaker 22: the other point you're gonna because under both scenarios right.
- 1:53:23Speaker 6: Now, So so you think we can we the idea
- 1:53:26Speaker 6: of needing urgency, So you get an on side kick
- 1:53:29Speaker 6: outweighs only needing one score, right, Like, I don't can't skip,
- 1:53:32Speaker 6: I can't see that's the problem.
- 1:53:34Speaker 5: Can we all agree that whether you go for two
- 1:53:37Speaker 5: or not, you have no idea how the rest of
- 1:53:39Speaker 5: the game is gonna unfold?
- 1:53:40Speaker 6: And can I just say why when you're down nine,
- 1:53:43Speaker 6: do you know what you need? But when you're down
- 1:53:44Speaker 6: eight you don't know what you need? You don't have
- 1:53:46Speaker 6: urgent people.
- 1:53:48Speaker 22: Because we're in both hypotheticals, right, we agree that you're
- 1:53:50Speaker 22: gonna fail the people in conversion otherwise, at no point
- 1:53:52Speaker 22: in having this conversation, right, we agree you're gonna fail
- 1:53:54Speaker 22: both times?
- 1:53:54Speaker 6: No, what Why am I agreeing to that?
- 1:53:59Speaker 14: Because the the idea.
- 1:54:00Speaker 22: Is would you rather fail early or feel late?
- 1:54:03Speaker 6: I don't want to fail at all exactly? But but
- 1:54:07Speaker 6: but but I'm just trying to play the percentages. I'm
- 1:54:10Speaker 6: trying to extend the game. I'm trying to make it
- 1:54:12Speaker 6: a competitive game for as long as I can. That's
- 1:54:15Speaker 6: why if most coaches put off going for two as
- 1:54:18Speaker 6: long as they can, because it extends the game.
- 1:54:20Speaker 5: If you're now under eight minutes and you need two possessions,
- 1:54:24Speaker 5: game's over so much easier for the other team the
- 1:54:27Speaker 5: game's over.
- 1:54:28Speaker 6: You read about like al Cola presents fantastic finishes thirty
- 1:54:31Speaker 6: years later on the one time the team that didn't
- 1:54:34Speaker 6: have the ball with eight minutes left down two scores
- 1:54:36Speaker 6: once those are like these, These are these famous, these
- 1:54:41Speaker 6: famous comebacks that that happened, you know, once or twice
- 1:54:45Speaker 6: a decade, Like we're going to.
- 1:54:48Speaker 9: Agree to disagree on this one.
- 1:54:49Speaker 6: Saying again, I'm not listen, I'm not This is not
- 1:54:56Speaker 6: about Sam.
- 1:54:56Speaker 5: I wish he had a better someone just give me.
- 1:54:59Speaker 6: All I'm looking for is someone to give me a
- 1:55:02Speaker 6: reason that doesn't involve knowing what I need, doesn't involve
- 1:55:06Speaker 6: under the When you're down eight, you're not getting a
- 1:55:08Speaker 6: two point conversion until the final seconds and the game
- 1:55:11Speaker 6: is over. I don't understand why that has to be.
- 1:55:15Speaker 6: Why can't you score with six minutes left? And now
- 1:55:19Speaker 6: I have Now I'm down with you.
- 1:55:21Speaker 9: At that point of course I would.
- 1:55:23Speaker 6: I would try to tie the game. But if it misses,
- 1:55:26Speaker 6: because as Sam said, I'm failing either way. So I
- 1:55:30Speaker 6: miss with with six minutes left. Now I have six
- 1:55:33Speaker 6: minutes to make a stop and kick a field goal
- 1:55:35Speaker 6: to win the game. As the same thing that they
- 1:55:37Speaker 6: want to do.
- 1:55:37Speaker 5: Down now, with tie running out, I'd rather with time
- 1:55:41Speaker 5: running out, I'd rather need I'd rather have the scenario.
- 1:55:44Speaker 5: What I only need the ball back one more time
- 1:55:46Speaker 5: to tie than to have the ball back two times.
- 1:55:50Speaker 6: Being down nine doesn't ensure that you will have two
- 1:55:53Speaker 6: possessions any more than being down eight does. Right, But
- 1:55:56Speaker 6: that's the way it's perceived somehow. When you're down eight,
- 1:55:59Speaker 6: you just gonna lolly gag in and out of the
- 1:56:01Speaker 6: huddle and wait all the time, run all the time
- 1:56:04Speaker 6: off the clock because we want to score in the
- 1:56:06Speaker 6: last second and get the two point conversion, send the
- 1:56:09Speaker 6: game to overtime. Why can't you with a twenty two left,
- 1:56:12Speaker 6: force a three and out, get the ball back, score
- 1:56:15Speaker 6: in four plays, miss the two point conversion, and still
- 1:56:18Speaker 6: have five minutes left to get another three and out
- 1:56:21Speaker 6: if you want.
- 1:56:21Speaker 8: Does not compute.
- 1:56:23Speaker 9: But if you're down eight, this is where you like you.
- 1:56:29Speaker 6: You you have like because you like friends on the
- 1:56:32Speaker 6: other side, like.
- 1:56:35Speaker 5: If he was like he's leading brethren, right, I.
- 1:56:39Speaker 9: Know, I know this is where we love. This is
- 1:56:44Speaker 9: where it's come to the line for me, come to
- 1:56:46Speaker 9: the like the the nerdom that I enjoy is not
- 1:56:51Speaker 9: this right. I could honestly care less about your win
- 1:56:55Speaker 9: probability model. I could care less. The nerdom that I
- 1:56:58Speaker 9: like is like charting things and like data that is
- 1:57:03Speaker 9: not predictive but is actual, like EPA, which is a
- 1:57:07Speaker 9: stat that is tangible. Like the wind probability stuff. I
- 1:57:12Speaker 9: think has really done a lot more damage in a
- 1:57:15Speaker 9: lot of ways than good because these nerds don't play sports. Okay,
- 1:57:19Speaker 9: but the the other stuff is different, and so I
- 1:57:23Speaker 9: hate that I, you know, get put into the.
- 1:57:25Speaker 6: Box I am. I'm here to listen if someone gives
- 1:57:29Speaker 6: me a tangible reason why it's better right to be
- 1:57:32Speaker 6: down now?
- 1:57:32Speaker 5: All right, two quick, more quick, because we're running out
- 1:57:35Speaker 5: of time here, Patty and agawam quickly. Patty gotta hurry. Okay,
- 1:57:43Speaker 5: he's not there. We'll do one more. And this is
- 1:57:45Speaker 5: Dante and Orlando. That's a weird Orlando. Well, they have
- 1:57:50Speaker 5: a lot of problem with the hurricane. So all right,
- 1:57:54Speaker 5: that's gonna be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:57:58Speaker 5: I just apologize to all all the hundreds of emailers.
- 1:58:01Speaker 5: We didn't get to like that many of them, so
