- 0:00Speaker 1: Big day yesterday, Oh big day.
- 0:01Speaker 2: And the competition hasn't even started.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Well, it has the qualifying has and the competition with
- 0:08Speaker 1: us on the pickleball court.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Oh my god. V randoms V randoms. Yeah, we were
- 0:13Speaker 2: just about to back up, and then we saw these
- 0:15Speaker 2: guys leaving the gym, and we thought, you want to challenge,
- 0:20Speaker 2: you want to throw down.
- 0:21Speaker 1: You're reflexing. You were giving it the sabalanca bicep case.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that's how I started a match.
- 0:26Speaker 1: That's how you started the match. And then they were
- 0:28Speaker 1: they're training someone who's in qualifying, and so they were
- 0:32Speaker 1: using the gym. They were kind of pro, and one
- 0:34Speaker 1: of them told us that he is a paddle basically
- 0:37Speaker 1: a pro paddle player, and he was really talking a
- 0:39Speaker 1: big game.
- 0:40Speaker 2: He was really talking it up, and then he said,
- 0:42Speaker 2: I don't do the overseas competitions, which doesn't reflect in
- 0:46Speaker 2: my ranking. And I'm like, okay, we're already making excuses
- 0:49Speaker 2: for us exactly, Hi, if you're listening, we dominated, We
- 0:52Speaker 2: actually don't. I think it was like eleven one, eleven one.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it was.
- 0:57Speaker 2: It was fair with and without wind.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, we switched sides of the court, so that
- 1:02Speaker 1: kind of uh, accreditated. How do you say accredit credit, accreditators, accreditation?
- 1:09Speaker 2: What are you trying to say? I don't know what
- 1:12Speaker 2: you need?
- 1:13Speaker 1: The court that the that's just for Yeah, the pickleball
- 1:21Speaker 1: court that we have access to.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Oh, we have to No one else has access to it.
- 1:26Speaker 1: No, we have to.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Go through a kitchen.
- 1:29Speaker 1: That's what I was trying to say. That only the
- 1:30Speaker 1: accreditators do.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Oh yes, US accredits credit. Okay, only people with a
- 1:39Speaker 2: special pass you can get into this pickaball.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Court, that's right. So but all comers we will take on. Yeah,
- 1:45Speaker 1: as long as you're accredited.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Yeah, we will stand outside the gym and pick you off.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Well. Actually, my first day walking into the grounds yesterday,
- 1:56Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I was walking in I live in the
- 1:58Speaker 1: neighboring suburb to the Australian Open Grounds and a lady
- 2:02Speaker 1: saw me wearing my lanyard and she said, hey, how
- 2:06Speaker 1: do I get into the Australian Open And I was like, oh,
- 2:09Speaker 1: the entrance. You just got to walk this way for
- 2:11Speaker 1: fifteen minutes and then it's right there. And she was like, okay,
- 2:15Speaker 1: well I'll follow you. And I was like, all right,
- 2:18Speaker 1: am I obligetting to talk to this woman. Now for
- 2:21Speaker 1: the fifteen minute walk.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Did she just lag like in your wake? Was she
- 2:24Speaker 2: just this is when flip street?
- 2:26Speaker 1: Yeah, well so I immediately put headphones back in.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Which I was like a signal.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, And then I noticed she was not moving
- 2:35Speaker 1: that fast okay, and I meant to wait, what's the I.
- 2:41Speaker 2: The people pleaser me would have like chatted to her.
- 2:44Speaker 2: I would have been talking I probably. Yeah, I would
- 2:47Speaker 2: have done everything for this woman. I would be next
- 2:50Speaker 2: minute doing her wash ship.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Because at one point I looked back and she was
- 2:53Speaker 1: a blip on the horizon.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Oh did you run? I was sprinting.
- 3:00Speaker 1: I was like, follow me, and then I sprinted you
- 3:02Speaker 1: freak and I kicked her crutches. No, so I was
- 3:08Speaker 1: That was my first kind of awkward social moment, like
- 3:11Speaker 1: just walking into the tournament.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Yeah. That's a good omen, isn't it? So thinking for
- 3:16Speaker 2: Mike still hates people at all.
- 3:21Speaker 1: If she could keep up, it would have been a
- 3:22Speaker 1: different story. But true. But I hope she made it
- 3:25Speaker 1: in the end. And I've been I've been looking at
- 3:27Speaker 1: missing persons.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Reports see if she's if she went into the river.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Yeah, but yeah, a big day for us yesterday.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Walking for us good vibes yesterday, vibe twenty nine thousand people?
- 3:41Speaker 2: Is that correct? Is that the correct fact?
- 3:43Speaker 1: Twenty nine that's huge, twenty nine thousands. And we also
- 3:46Speaker 1: got twenty nine thousand downloads of our first stab whoa,
- 3:49Speaker 1: I made that up?
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that's crazy. We also got twenty nine thousand complaint emails.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Actually, I know there was a complaint about me not
- 3:59Speaker 1: being Ozzy. Oh yeah, I've been here for twenty years.
- 4:02Speaker 2: You've got a passport.
- 4:04Speaker 1: I've got it citizenship, Yeah, passport, Im not can if
- 4:07Speaker 1: people feel more comfortable, I can do it in my
- 4:09Speaker 1: best Aussie accent.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Oh, go for it.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Hey, Hey yah, yes, pat Rafta.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I love him. I'll do mine as well.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Shake Check's got Vegas.
- 4:21Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't know if I can handle that. Maybe
- 4:26Speaker 2: I could do it in my American accent as well. Yeah,
- 4:30Speaker 2: I just did it talking about like I'm hang on,
- 4:35Speaker 2: let's get into it. I'm doing it now. I'm from
- 4:39Speaker 2: New York.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Okay, okay, I think you've gone mob boss.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Yeah, well look at this tracksuit. This is what I'm wearing.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Also, we forgot to establish yesterday that you've set up
- 4:50Speaker 1: a Rayah account. Oh yeah, for the duration of the tournament.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Maybe, Yeah, I fired it up again.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Oh so it was already it already existed and it's
- 4:59Speaker 2: laid dormant for quite a quite a while, and I thought,
- 5:02Speaker 2: you know what, I'll give the podcast some content.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Nice.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Yeah, and I fired it up. You're not really allowed
- 5:08Speaker 2: to talk about it publicly. You can't even screenshot.
- 5:11Speaker 1: So Riya's like fight club.
- 5:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, okay, who's on?
- 5:16Speaker 1: You can't So if you meet a tennis player on here,
- 5:19Speaker 1: you can't even tell us about it. No.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I of course I had to bring it up on
- 5:22Speaker 2: the pot. Are you serious? That's the only thing that
- 5:25Speaker 2: this is good for.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Have you had any hits from that tennis world?
- 5:29Speaker 2: Yeah? You know who I've had a hit from. And
- 5:32Speaker 2: I don't know if I can bring this up. A
- 5:33Speaker 2: tennis guy did like my profile and I looked him up.
- 5:37Speaker 2: He's sixty years old.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Oh and a coach. Basically, what I'm hearing is you're
- 5:42Speaker 1: getting hit on by Todd Woodbridge.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Nah. No, it's an overseas guys.
- 5:49Speaker 1: I mean, did he send you a message or it's
- 5:51Speaker 1: just all.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Like they like you, you have to like them back
- 5:55Speaker 2: and then you can start talking right right, right, and.
- 5:57Speaker 1: For anyone who doesn't know, Riya is the tender for
- 6:00Speaker 1: people who think they're better than.
- 6:01Speaker 2: You, Yeah, pretty much. You have to be invited on.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And I think overseas it's quite cool. He Actually there's
- 6:07Speaker 2: like really good people on there. But in Australia, so
- 6:12Speaker 2: good commercial real estate ages all right, Yeah, footy players
- 6:17Speaker 2: it's not great.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Players might be all right, yeah, but a commercial real
- 6:21Speaker 1: estate agent, yeah it's so good.
- 6:24Speaker 2: But but yeah, when the tennis comes through, usually there's
- 6:27Speaker 2: a few tennis players.
- 6:28Speaker 1: All right. So I think that the main objective is
- 6:31Speaker 1: with your Riyah account or the Australian Open, is you
- 6:34Speaker 1: get a date with the tennis player.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Yeah, hopefully, and then you know, film it.
- 6:37Speaker 1: And then we're going to film it everything and I'm
- 6:39Speaker 1: going to be the chaperone.
- 6:43Speaker 2: I'd actually love that show.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Perfect Tennis, Welcome to pod Labor Arena. There's a lot
- 6:52Speaker 1: of chat before we got into it. And of course
- 6:55Speaker 1: I am My Goldstein and as all of us, I
- 6:58Speaker 1: have the Venus villains, Serena, Lizzy.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Who what a day?
- 7:03Speaker 1: Yes, huge turnout. Oh Bernard Thomic is back.
- 7:07Speaker 2: I know he won his qualifying match.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Yeah, what do you think I'm excited. Yeah, Bernie bring
- 7:14Speaker 1: him back so much potential. You know, he was huge
- 7:16Speaker 1: for a while.
- 7:17Speaker 2: It was huge. I just I just remember his car.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Do you remember his car?
- 7:20Speaker 1: I know he got caught speed.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Yeah, it was like orange. Was it orange? Or Am
- 7:24Speaker 2: I getting that mixed up with curiosity?
- 7:26Speaker 1: No? It's probably that sounds right. Yeah it was orange
- 7:29Speaker 1: atomic at an orange car.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Yeah, it was orange and orange bmw. Oh yeah, why
- 7:34Speaker 2: do I remember that?
- 7:36Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 7:36Speaker 2: I don't know why. I don't want to remember that.
- 7:38Speaker 1: If Bernie hit you up on Rayah and was like
- 7:40Speaker 1: let's hang.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Out, I'd be like, I'm busy. I got a one
- 7:47Speaker 2: point slim to play.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Yeah you do.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Actually, isn't that crazy?
- 7:52Speaker 3: We're competing in the one point one.
- 7:56Speaker 1: What do you think is going to happen?
- 7:57Speaker 2: It's not not together right?
- 8:00Speaker 1: Well, I don't know if we're playing against each other. Yeah,
- 8:02Speaker 1: if that's true, and judging by how many times you
- 8:05Speaker 1: hit me with the ping pong ball yesterday, we should
- 8:08Speaker 1: we should try and involve, like if you lose the point,
- 8:10Speaker 1: I get to hit a tennis ball. Yeah, and vice versa.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Deal are right? In today's headline calls a bunch of
- 8:22Speaker 1: things to talk about Lizzie Uh. As we mentioned before,
- 8:25Speaker 1: there was the sable Anca celebration kissing the Yeah I
- 8:30Speaker 1: like it. Yeah, yeah, she's got out of cheat. No.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Yeah, And but she she it was done because a
- 8:36Speaker 2: player said that she had too much testoster.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Oh is that why?
- 8:40Speaker 2: Yeah? Okay, that's what they're assuming, right, But then they
- 8:43Speaker 2: asked her about it and she said, no, I just
- 8:45Speaker 2: was strong in that game pretty much.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I've been told I have too much estrogen.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Really too much?
- 8:52Speaker 1: So which should I kiss.
- 8:57Speaker 2: My ass?
- 9:00Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean it is a pretty cool celebration. I
- 9:02Speaker 1: think only she could pull it off. I think if
- 9:04Speaker 1: anything male player did it, you'd be like, what a
- 9:06Speaker 1: what a douche? Really, don't you think?
- 9:08Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I feel like my players celebrate like male footballer is
- 9:13Speaker 2: do that like the flex yeah all the time, and
- 9:18Speaker 2: whenever they do it. I think I have never once
- 9:21Speaker 2: in my life won anything and wanted to do.
- 9:24Speaker 1: That, right, just like flex?
- 9:26Speaker 2: What what about? I don't see tennis players really doing it,
- 9:31Speaker 2: but it'd be.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Cool to do the kissing the bicep thing and like
- 9:34Speaker 1: everyday life, like when you pick up your coffee, Yeah,
- 9:37Speaker 1: you just like they call your name and you walk
- 9:39Speaker 1: up and we'll yeah, that's my ice latte with soy milk.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you. I'm going to do it in
- 9:47Speaker 2: the one point slam. Oh you should actually when I lose.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, all right.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Cocky Nucus has a new injury. Yeah, did well last night.
- 9:56Speaker 1: He won his first round match in the Adelaide tournament.
- 10:00Speaker 1: That's currently happening. I hope it's not serious.
- 10:04Speaker 2: No, I want to see him play.
- 10:05Speaker 1: What other body part can he have implanted?
- 10:08Speaker 2: Because it's a shoulder niggle, so we need to get
- 10:12Speaker 2: him a shoulder right, but he.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Had an Achilles tendon in the packs or what and
- 10:18Speaker 1: maybe an a c L and the shoulder.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, something like a hip hip flexor in the shoulder.
- 10:24Speaker 1: A glute muscle in the shoulder.
- 10:27Speaker 2: This is all very medical.
- 10:28Speaker 3: Yes, old butt shoulders like dunk and dunk on his shoulder,
- 10:36Speaker 3: but do all.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Right for us. Also, like I play a bit of tennis.
- 10:48Speaker 1: When I do. I recently played Australian comedian icon some
- 10:56Speaker 1: might say Dave Hughes and I'm generally beat husy, you know,
- 11:02Speaker 1: convincingly convincingly Yeah, And I love to see Hughesy get
- 11:06Speaker 1: mad because oh yeah. He's so competitive, really, and he's
- 11:12Speaker 1: screaming at himself and everyone knows it's him.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Yeah, what does he say? What's his talk?
- 11:19Speaker 1: I can't say it on him, We'll have to bleep
- 11:24Speaker 1: it out. But there's a lot of sea bombs and
- 11:26Speaker 1: really yeh, but he's great, Like he's he's so competitive.
- 11:30Speaker 1: But we played the other day and he beat me
- 11:34Speaker 1: six four six zero six zero delta bagel by Dave.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I know, did you just like completely choke in that
- 11:44Speaker 2: second set?
- 11:45Speaker 1: I thought I was playing okay, but I've never seen
- 11:48Speaker 1: the man move quicker in my life.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Okay.
- 11:51Speaker 1: And then I was talking to him on change of
- 11:53Speaker 1: ends and I was like, what's going on. He's like,
- 11:55Speaker 1: I'm on this new ADHD medication and I'm like okay,
- 11:59Speaker 1: and like you meant meant to take how many a day?
- 12:01Speaker 1: And he's like two to three. I was like, how
- 12:02Speaker 1: many have you taken? He's like about eight. I don't
- 12:04Speaker 1: care if this is out there. There's just this gray
- 12:07Speaker 1: blur on the other side of the course, just running.
- 12:09Speaker 1: I couldn't get it past him. And now, like, because
- 12:13Speaker 1: when I beat him, he's messaging me. The next day
- 12:15Speaker 1: we got to play. We gotta play. And now that
- 12:17Speaker 1: he's beaten me and my message like we got to
- 12:20Speaker 1: play again? No response? What radio silence?
- 12:23Speaker 2: Do you think he's playing someone else?
- 12:25Speaker 1: No? I think he wants to maintain his Oh that's it.
- 12:27Speaker 2: He wants to go out on a high. Yeah, he's
- 12:30Speaker 2: run out of prescription.
- 12:31Speaker 1: Yeah, he's run out of his meds. He's going to
- 12:34Speaker 1: have to take ten next time, and then it'll be
- 12:37Speaker 1: my problem when his heart explodes.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Yeah, you're got to that quote.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Oh fucking can you do? Hughsy, wonderful crowd.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Of my line, this is the best of her hat.
- 12:54Speaker 1: You're going into hubee.
- 12:58Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know. Have a Eusy impersonation.
- 13:01Speaker 2: I think I feel like every comedian does.
- 13:03Speaker 1: That's a good character, hughesy her catch.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's a combination of this frail.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Dave Hughes You're wonderful crowd.
- 13:17Speaker 2: That's incredible about Okay? All right?
- 13:22Speaker 1: Looking ahead to the Australian Open Tournament. It's going to
- 13:26Speaker 1: be a big one. I think it's going to be
- 13:28Speaker 1: the best ever and.
- 13:30Speaker 2: I'm on ever in general?
- 13:33Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 13:34Speaker 2: Is that because we're here, Yeah, we're a part of it.
- 13:37Speaker 1: People are talking about US.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Oh so many?
- 13:40Speaker 1: Who are why are they here?
- 13:42Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 13:43Speaker 1: What are they doing?
- 13:45Speaker 2: Do they know anything about tennis?
- 13:49Speaker 1: No? But I I do think the Australian Open, and
- 13:52Speaker 1: this is my unbiased opinion. I think it's the best
- 13:56Speaker 1: of the Slams.
- 13:57Speaker 5: Really.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Have you been to all of this?
- 13:59Speaker 1: The US A bunch and I've been to Wimbledon. Yeah,
- 14:04Speaker 1: I just haven't been to the.
- 14:05Speaker 2: French okay, yes, particular reason.
- 14:08Speaker 1: I would look bad in a Panama head.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that head. It's not fitting much.
- 14:17Speaker 1: Is this going to be a running gag of a
- 14:18Speaker 1: huge head? Maybe that's fine? Sorry, no, no, that's fair. Yeah.
- 14:24Speaker 2: There's record prize money this.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Year singles champs collect four point one five million each.
- 14:30Speaker 2: It's pretty good.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Yeah, so what would you do with four point one million?
- 14:35Speaker 1: Still quit? Yeah?
- 14:36Speaker 2: Still quit quit? Yeah, I'm quitning.
- 14:38Speaker 1: It's good to know you have that Asian work ethic.
- 14:41Speaker 2: I am half what so it kicks in every now
- 14:46Speaker 2: and then. But yeah, I think i'd quit go on
- 14:48Speaker 2: a holiday. Oh yeah, I'd go and see all the Slams.
- 14:51Speaker 1: I mean Australian Open. It said they're going to send
- 14:53Speaker 1: us to all the Slams. Yeah, I did hear. That
- 14:56Speaker 1: is that right, Shannon.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Yeah, beat on the street.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean I'll go. I'll do it for whatever.
- 15:02Speaker 1: If I have to oil up Bernie, I'd love to
- 15:08Speaker 1: say that. So yeah, I've been a very enthusiastic punter
- 15:18Speaker 1: at previous events. You get angry, vocal, well, yelling stuff
- 15:24Speaker 1: out at a tennis match. It's prime for getting a
- 15:28Speaker 1: big laugh.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Oh and we love big love.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I love big laughs, we do. But it's also a
- 15:33Speaker 1: prime for bombing in front of more people than Yeah,
- 15:36Speaker 1: you've ever bombed in front of Okay, But I used
- 15:39Speaker 1: to one of my very good friends, Paul Hancock, who
- 15:42Speaker 1: lives in Sydney's an absolute tennis freak and we would
- 15:45Speaker 1: go every year to the Australian Open and yell stuff out,
- 15:48Speaker 1: try to get a laugh. And we were in rod
- 15:50Speaker 1: Labor in a first round match. Nadal was playing somebody
- 15:55Speaker 1: and absolutely killing him. It was like six to oho,
- 15:58Speaker 1: six to oh four zero and uh he yelled out,
- 16:03Speaker 1: hanging their rafa and it killed right, like huge laugh.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Whatever capacity is Rod Labor, you know, and uh and
- 16:13Speaker 1: then he nudges me and he was like, you'll never
- 16:15Speaker 1: get a laugh from that many people at once. Yeah,
- 16:18Speaker 1: brutal right, and I was like, all right, yeah, yeah,
- 16:20Speaker 1: pretty good, pretty good. And then we were watching a
- 16:24Speaker 1: match on one of the outside courts. Gael mon Fees
- 16:27Speaker 1: play Doggopolov. His first name Alexander. He was playing Alexander Dogoppolov,
- 16:34Speaker 1: and uh, who people used to call Doggie? Right, there's
- 16:37Speaker 1: the dog dog Appolof. And so I told my my friend.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I was like, you should yell out I love your
- 16:44Speaker 1: doggy style. And he did and it did not go
- 16:51Speaker 1: well at all, I know, but oh I relished. People
- 16:58Speaker 1: were looking like, ugh, is this guy tasteless? So still
- 17:03Speaker 1: about once or twice a year I'll message my buddy
- 17:06Speaker 1: and say, I love your doggy style.
- 17:07Speaker 2: Do you have any crowd etiquette rules?
- 17:11Speaker 1: Look, I think we should start letting people in, even
- 17:14Speaker 1: when it's not change events. Right. Oh, we're treating the
- 17:19Speaker 1: players a little too preciously. Let people walk in.
- 17:23Speaker 2: But people are so distracting.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Yeah, but I mean, why do we have to act
- 17:28Speaker 1: like you're so special as a tennis player?
- 17:33Speaker 2: Yeah? True, any other sport. Like you see a golf
- 17:35Speaker 2: with tea off and there's like a thousand cameras in
- 17:38Speaker 2: their face and everyone's whispering and talking.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Exactly and the golf gets rowdy.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Now it does, yeah, Rory's wife.
- 17:46Speaker 1: So I mean, I think I've seen a few things
- 17:51Speaker 1: happen in a crowd that maybe beyond the pale one.
- 17:55Speaker 1: I was at a at the Hopman Cup in Perth
- 17:59Speaker 1: with my old man, uh and Goldstein, doctor Goldstein.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Oh shit, yeah, thank you again, doctor Goldstein.
- 18:10Speaker 1: He uh sees American, right, And so he was unfamiliar
- 18:14Speaker 1: with the ketchup packets.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Oh that stumps everyone.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Do you know the twisty ones where it's like the
- 18:21Speaker 1: little packet and couple squeeze. Yeah, yeah, so you squeeze
- 18:24Speaker 1: so it comes out. But he thought it was twisty, right,
- 18:27Speaker 1: and so he went to twist the ketchup packet tomato sauce. Sorry,
- 18:32Speaker 1: I'm not ausy, but I am, oh the tomato sauce.
- 18:44Speaker 1: And so instead of squeezing, he twisted and the ketchup
- 18:50Speaker 1: sprayed all over the shirt, the white T shirt of
- 18:56Speaker 1: a like ten year old kid sitting in front of us.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Absolutely doused the shirt and the kid unknowing well, it
- 19:04Speaker 1: took a minute for it to seep in far enough
- 19:06Speaker 1: for him to feel it. Okay, And before that happened,
- 19:08Speaker 1: because we were sitting pretty far up and there was
- 19:11Speaker 1: a crowd of people obviously behind us. Everyone was losing
- 19:15Speaker 1: it left because everyone saw this happen. It was a
- 19:19Speaker 1: boring match, and they this was like the highlight of forever. Yeah,
- 19:25Speaker 1: but then the kid felt it seep in and he
- 19:26Speaker 1: starts like kind of grabbing and.
- 19:29Speaker 2: So so you didn't tell him straight away.
- 19:31Speaker 1: I was taking pictures. I'll send the picture through to
- 19:34Speaker 1: our producer. We'll get it up right. And then but
- 19:37Speaker 1: my dad, you know, being a good man, he went
- 19:40Speaker 1: and bought the kid a new Roger Federer T shirt.
- 19:43Speaker 2: What. Yeah, that's a win.
- 19:45Speaker 1: That's a win.
- 19:46Speaker 2: What do you what do you think of the person
- 19:48Speaker 2: in the crowd that wants to clap last?
- 19:50Speaker 1: Oh?
- 19:51Speaker 2: You know that person? No, like you know, you know
- 19:54Speaker 2: when they and it's like there's one person they just
- 19:56Speaker 2: try and be the.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Is there a last clapper?
- 20:02Speaker 2: Is that a thing? Or is that just me?
- 20:06Speaker 1: Ace?
- 20:06Speaker 2: Man?
- 20:07Speaker 1: But you know, one of our guys, he's the last clapper.
- 20:11Speaker 1: We didn't ask who has the clap?
- 20:13Speaker 2: A man?
- 20:16Speaker 1: So have you been a guilty of being the last clapper? No?
- 20:19Speaker 2: I hate those people.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Okay, Australians in every country besides the US, has good chance.
- 20:27Speaker 2: At the tennis what Oh, sorry, Australians don't have good
- 20:31Speaker 2: you do? We do not, you don't think so we
- 20:35Speaker 2: are a chanceless nation. We have the most terrible chance.
- 20:41Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 20:43Speaker 2: That's fine, No, it's enough if I we cannot be
- 20:48Speaker 2: doing anymore. Oh right, so what's your I don't have
- 20:52Speaker 2: any I have absolutely no alternatives. But we've got to
- 20:57Speaker 2: do something better than.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Well, that's a challenge. Okay, for the next part, we'll
- 21:01Speaker 1: think of new chance. We will because the US is
- 21:05Speaker 1: just USA.
- 21:06Speaker 2: But that sounds so cool, cool, yeah, non American. When
- 21:11Speaker 2: you hear a cropping, look you that's like what what
- 21:15Speaker 2: you watched as a kid on the movie?
- 21:17Speaker 1: Yeah, because well, I've only seen people be very annoyed
- 21:22Speaker 1: when I chant USA, like when I pick up my
- 21:25Speaker 1: coffee and then kiss my biceps.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Wrong time. You know what else? I don't like the
- 21:31Speaker 2: chat where they're like, let's go, whoever, let's go. I'm like, oh,
- 21:38Speaker 2: really nice, We've got to be better.
- 21:42Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 21:43Speaker 2: That's like straight from primary school.
- 21:45Speaker 1: Let's go, Lizzy, let's go.
- 21:49Speaker 2: It's an uninspiring chance. If I was playing tennis and
- 21:53Speaker 2: someone did that to me, I'd be like bess Off.
- 21:56Speaker 2: I think I get really angry.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Yeah right, all right, welcome back to pod Labor Arena.
- 22:07Speaker 1: We have our first ever interviews. Eliza West is here.
- 22:13Speaker 1: It's so good to have you here. Would you call
- 22:15Speaker 1: it yourself a tennis influencer.
- 22:18Speaker 4: I feel like influences a dirty word it is, but
- 22:22Speaker 4: I'll go with content creator.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, cleaner, I respect you.
- 22:27Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 22:28Speaker 2: You do a lot of stuff with tennis fashion, yes,
- 22:32Speaker 2: reviewing it.
- 22:34Speaker 4: I have always been into tennis fashion, but I try
- 22:37Speaker 4: to bring people into tennis through my love of on
- 22:40Speaker 4: court fashion, and I think that's been very culturally relevant
- 22:44Speaker 4: over the last few years with the rise of Athlesia
- 22:47Speaker 4: where and tennis becoming culturally relevant in the movies and
- 22:52Speaker 4: our TV shows, and people loving tennis fashion as lifestyle.
- 22:56Speaker 4: So I've kind of been able to ride the wave
- 23:00Speaker 4: with it being trendy.
- 23:01Speaker 5: At the moment.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Did you like the movie Challengers The Outfit?
- 23:09Speaker 4: It was a funny watch. I thought the way they
- 23:11Speaker 4: filmed it was really entertaining. I didn't really love the ending.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Though, No, I don't think anybody did.
- 23:17Speaker 1: Yeah, everyone laughing when they jumped over the net. Yeah spoilers, Yeah.
- 23:23Speaker 5: You haven't seen it by now, then that's your fault exactly.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Yeah, but it was, you know, stylishly directed and you know,
- 23:30Speaker 1: fun to watch. It's hard not to judge the tennis
- 23:33Speaker 1: in it.
- 23:34Speaker 4: It is, and I feel like people who are tennis
- 23:37Speaker 4: fans and play tennis, we are extremely judgmental of tennis movies.
- 23:41Speaker 4: I think to the average eye, it probably did look
- 23:44Speaker 4: really good and was much better than other tennis movies.
- 23:47Speaker 4: But I know, for example, even the poster of Zendea
- 23:50Speaker 4: serving got trolled a lot on tennis Twitter, So it
- 23:54Speaker 4: kind of depends on who you ask. But for the
- 23:55Speaker 4: tennis purists, I think they could have done a better
- 23:58Speaker 4: job Zendaya's grip.
- 24:01Speaker 1: The pancakes us so good to have you in here.
- 24:08Speaker 1: We had a recent fashion f PA. Well, first of all,
- 24:11Speaker 1: we should get you to rate.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Oh yeah, what do you think of my my outfit?
- 24:15Speaker 5: No, I genuinely told you I liked it this morning.
- 24:17Speaker 4: I actually took a picture of that outfit at the
- 24:19Speaker 4: Much store yesterday.
- 24:20Speaker 5: I was going to post it as Liza Approved.
- 24:23Speaker 2: So you have made my day?
- 24:29Speaker 1: Have I Liza Approved? I'm in track pants and a T.
- 24:31Speaker 5: Shirt and the official dress up A bit.
- 24:34Speaker 1: More yeah, what would you do?
- 24:37Speaker 5: I think we could add some colors. I think we
- 24:39Speaker 5: go with a hat.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Maybe a better looking guy.
- 24:44Speaker 5: Let's have nothing to do with.
- 24:49Speaker 1: Oh my, that's good.
- 24:50Speaker 2: So who do you who is your best dressed player
- 24:53Speaker 2: or who do you think your top this tournament, or
- 24:56Speaker 2: just general, who's the most stylish?
- 24:58Speaker 4: I mean, I think in kind of ten history, the
- 25:00Speaker 4: conversations usually always revolve around Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams,
- 25:06Speaker 4: and I think they were lucky in that era of
- 25:09Speaker 4: Nike really wanting to push the boat out, giving them
- 25:12Speaker 4: their own collections, designing specifically for them and their taste,
- 25:16Speaker 4: and those dresses have been iconic ever since they came out,
- 25:20Speaker 4: and I think a lot of tennis fans wish that
- 25:22Speaker 4: Nike would bring those lines back.
- 25:24Speaker 5: But I also really like kind of going.
- 25:25Speaker 4: Back into tennis fashion history and looking at a lot
- 25:29Speaker 4: of the women who've kind of paved the way, like
- 25:31Speaker 4: CHRISI Ever with a lot of her outfits and styles,
- 25:34Speaker 4: and then looking back at what Adidas used to do
- 25:36Speaker 4: with Steffi Graff. So I think in general, modern tennis
- 25:41Speaker 4: fashion kind of twenty eighteen onwards has been disappointing for
- 25:45Speaker 4: the fashion purists. But I'm hoping that the tide is
- 25:49Speaker 4: starting to change and we're seeing new brands enter in
- 25:52Speaker 4: and I think people are seeing that there's an opportunity
- 25:54Speaker 4: to kind of take on the giants while they're sleeping
- 25:58Speaker 4: and get get things moving with kind of new styles
- 26:02Speaker 4: and new looks.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Right, Because I've come across the free content before where
- 26:06Speaker 1: you're writing people's outfits for whatever slam is taking place.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Has anyone ever complained or been reached out and said, hey,
- 26:15Speaker 1: maybe don't trash our gear or our new look.
- 26:21Speaker 5: Yes, it's happened on multiple occasions.
- 26:23Speaker 4: I think I sent your X into a tailspin two
- 26:25Speaker 4: years ago with AO when I said their dress looked
- 26:28Speaker 4: like an air freshener, and I think they had a
- 26:33Speaker 4: whole board meeting about what an air freshman was.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Wow.
- 26:36Speaker 4: In Japan, they weren't quite sure what I was talking about,
- 26:40Speaker 4: and I think I caused a bit of a headache there.
- 26:43Speaker 4: I know some players hate to see me coming, but
- 26:46Speaker 4: my answer is always, you know, I'm trying to push
- 26:48Speaker 4: you to be better, trying to push the brands to
- 26:51Speaker 4: kind of, you know, consider different styles and really consider
- 26:55Speaker 4: how things look on TV. Because I think A lot
- 26:57Speaker 4: of what's designed is maybe they're looking at, you know,
- 27:00Speaker 4: the colors of the court and how something looks in person,
- 27:02Speaker 4: but a lot of the time that doesn't translate to
- 27:05Speaker 4: digital and how we're looking on it on TV.
- 27:07Speaker 5: So I really want the.
- 27:08Speaker 4: Players to be able to use it as AMMO with
- 27:11Speaker 4: their brands and be like, look, this person's trashing my outfit.
- 27:14Speaker 5: And you have to do better.
- 27:15Speaker 1: You're trying to help.
- 27:16Speaker 5: Yeah, in my own way, Tennis.
- 27:19Speaker 2: True, Frank Rose, we need to get here.
- 27:24Speaker 1: There was a recent fashion for We discussed it on
- 27:27Speaker 1: yesterday's podcast. I think we have it here if we
- 27:29Speaker 1: queue up, it's a I think you've seen this already
- 27:33Speaker 1: seen this?
- 27:34Speaker 5: Oh yes, it hurts, hurts straight up.
- 27:41Speaker 1: What type of person do you think could pull that
- 27:44Speaker 1: outfit off? If not stuff on us, it's pers.
- 27:47Speaker 5: Maybe Snoop Dogg.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Oh yeah, oh yeah, I see Snoop Dogg.
- 27:50Speaker 4: Yeah, he's you know, he's a tracksuit kind of guy.
- 27:53Speaker 4: He would rock that at the Olympics.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:55Speaker 1: But other than that, Lizzie suggested that he stole it
- 27:58Speaker 1: off like sixty year old Miami grandma.
- 28:01Speaker 2: You know, I.
- 28:02Speaker 5: Wouldn't be surprised given how Stephane Rolls.
- 28:05Speaker 2: They had a light night.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:07Speaker 2: I mean he's got the he's got the knee cock out.
- 28:12Speaker 2: Can you say that?
- 28:13Speaker 1: I don't think.
- 28:16Speaker 2: His knee that's a real one. It's a little knee flap. Yeah,
- 28:24Speaker 2: that's what I'm trying to get it.
- 28:25Speaker 1: I don't know. It might be comfortable. He probably traveled
- 28:28Speaker 1: long haul and then, but still that's a flex of
- 28:31Speaker 1: an outfit.
- 28:32Speaker 5: It's unnecessary. Yeah, especially for a travel outfit.
- 28:36Speaker 4: You know, if this was maybe Halloween time, it would
- 28:38Speaker 4: be the right choice.
- 28:40Speaker 1: This says to me. His dad isn't bullying him enough.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Yeah, he has bad friends. Yes, no one said you
- 28:48Speaker 2: cannot maybe don't do this outfit.
- 28:52Speaker 1: I mean, obviously we looked up some of the fashion
- 28:54Speaker 1: pho pause from yesteryear, the big one that usually comes
- 28:58Speaker 1: up as Augusty and George.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I couldn't play in denim.
- 29:03Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 29:04Speaker 5: You know people are calling for that to come back. Really, Yeah,
- 29:06Speaker 5: that's really How do.
- 29:08Speaker 2: You feel about mat No?
- 29:10Speaker 4: I didn't mind it when Serena Williams did the Denham skirt.
- 29:14Speaker 4: I thought that was kind of cool. I think we
- 29:16Speaker 4: could see a modern innovation of Denham, right, Yeah, that
- 29:21Speaker 4: look was so iconic.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I get that up on the screen for anyone watching,
- 29:26Speaker 1: but it's she's denim skirt and then long socks. Yeah,
- 29:30Speaker 1: and it just looks tough.
- 29:32Speaker 4: It does look tough, but she can put it off.
- 29:34Speaker 4: I think the problem with the jawts is that short shorts,
- 29:37Speaker 4: you know, went so out of style and you can't
- 29:39Speaker 4: possibly think of doing like a longer jean short. But
- 29:43Speaker 4: now short shorts are kind of coming back, So maybe
- 29:46Speaker 4: a whole garuna or a Mahuchwood rocket jean short.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:50Speaker 1: He loves his tiny little shorts, he does. He's got
- 29:54Speaker 1: the quads for it, he does. I mean, do you
- 29:57Speaker 1: think so?
- 29:58Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 29:59Speaker 1: I don't know if I ever play professionally.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Today, I'm going to.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Go as chaps up.
- 30:10Speaker 5: I'm sure the fans will love it.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Eliza, what did you think of Grigor Dimitrov's outfit from
- 30:20Speaker 1: the twenty twenty Australian Open.
- 30:23Speaker 4: Yeah, Paul Gregor, I think I posted a meme about
- 30:26Speaker 4: that a lot of while ago. That was definitely a mess,
- 30:28Speaker 4: and I'm glad he's since moved on with Lacoste and
- 30:31Speaker 4: they have done a great job with both his.
- 30:33Speaker 5: On court and off court style.
- 30:35Speaker 4: I think that's what's special about Lacoste is that they're
- 30:38Speaker 4: the only brand that does runway and on court looks,
- 30:42Speaker 4: and so the players that they've picked can kind of
- 30:45Speaker 4: do both in terms of the styling, which I think
- 30:47Speaker 4: is special not just for the lacost brand, but also yeah,
- 30:51Speaker 4: for the legacy of kind of tennis fashion history that
- 30:55Speaker 4: that continues with both the runway looks and on court looks.
- 30:58Speaker 1: All right, correct? What more outfit to ask you about?
- 31:02Speaker 1: And I was unaware with this one, even though I
- 31:03Speaker 1: watched a ton of tennis. The Venus Williams Lingerie outfit.
- 31:10Speaker 5: You know, Venus is another one of those personalities that
- 31:13Speaker 5: I think she can kind of.
- 31:14Speaker 4: Get away with whatever it is that she decides to
- 31:17Speaker 4: wear on court, even if it does not look the
- 31:20Speaker 4: best for the rest of us. I just love that
- 31:24Speaker 4: Venus always wanted to express her own identity through fashion,
- 31:28Speaker 4: and that she left big brands early on and started
- 31:31Speaker 4: her own lines while she was still very much an
- 31:33Speaker 4: active player. And I hope to see more players either
- 31:37Speaker 4: get their own lines with a bigger brand or start
- 31:39Speaker 4: their own clothing companies, because I think tennis is such
- 31:44Speaker 4: an expression of your own personality, the way you play tennis,
- 31:48Speaker 4: the way you are competing, and that should also be
- 31:51Speaker 4: reflected in kind of how you look and how the
- 31:53Speaker 4: costume that you're wearing. So I think if she, you know,
- 31:57Speaker 4: felt excited and comfortable with it, go for it. In
- 32:00Speaker 4: terms of like Liza approved, I wouldn't put that on.
- 32:03Speaker 1: My well, I got suggesting that all the women should
- 32:08Speaker 1: wear laundering.
- 32:13Speaker 2: Oh one more, what about the new Osaka Ao fit?
- 32:18Speaker 2: Have you seen the rumored one I have?
- 32:20Speaker 4: I'm not I'm not opposed to the color away. I
- 32:23Speaker 4: am opposed to the dangling roughly parts.
- 32:26Speaker 2: You know what it's telling me?
- 32:28Speaker 5: Great barrier reef and that's like kind of makes sense.
- 32:32Speaker 2: And like jellyfish sort of thing going on. The colors.
- 32:38Speaker 2: I don't mind it.
- 32:39Speaker 5: Yeah, it's for me.
- 32:40Speaker 4: It's better than what we saw at US Open, So
- 32:44Speaker 4: I'll take it. That was two years ago. The outfit
- 32:50Speaker 4: at the US Open this year was kind of the poofy,
- 32:53Speaker 4: almost jellyfish like sky. It just didn't look comfortable to
- 32:56Speaker 4: play in. But again, she's another one of those plays
- 33:00Speaker 4: is that she's reflecting her culture. She's reflecting her interest
- 33:04Speaker 4: in things like anime and stuff that she likes off
- 33:06Speaker 4: the court, so I respect that she's always putting a
- 33:09Speaker 4: lot of thought and effort into what she's wearing. And
- 33:11Speaker 4: even if it's not my cup of tea, I like
- 33:14Speaker 4: that she gets the conversation going on fashion and tennis,
- 33:17Speaker 4: and I'm all for bringing people into the world of
- 33:21Speaker 4: tennis through any means possible, And if they like watching
- 33:24Speaker 4: her because of her outfits, then I'm happy with that.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Great You're here on behalf of the Serve podcast, I
- 33:30Speaker 1: am with Andy Roddick. Yes, Andy always wore a backwards
- 33:34Speaker 1: hat a lot of the times, especially when playing. He
- 33:36Speaker 1: still will rock it from time to time. Yeap, is
- 33:39Speaker 1: there an age where a man can no longer wear
- 33:42Speaker 1: a backwards hat?
- 33:44Speaker 4: One of my most popular series on Instagram was how
- 33:47Speaker 4: to Dress Like a Hot Man in Tennis, and one
- 33:50Speaker 4: of my rules about backwards hats is you just have
- 33:53Speaker 4: to be a really good tennis player to be able
- 33:55Speaker 4: to do it. Count Andy kind of has that, and
- 34:01Speaker 4: he's not allowed to wear Advisor ever again. Okay, I
- 34:05Speaker 4: hate I hate many advisors.
- 34:07Speaker 5: I'm really sorry. It's just like never.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Yes, do you think capri pants should come back?
- 34:11Speaker 2: No?
- 34:13Speaker 5: Definitely, not hard No.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Eliza Wes. Thank you so much for being on the
- 34:18Speaker 1: p Yeah, I really appreciate it. Anything else you want
- 34:21Speaker 1: to plug or.
- 34:22Speaker 4: Follow along on served social media channels and my own
- 34:25Speaker 4: handle it's lies as well and always happy to chat tennis,
- 34:29Speaker 4: fashion and everything else that goes on with it.
- 34:30Speaker 5: So thanks for having me.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Eliza here on pod labor Arena. To wrap up every episode,
- 34:35Speaker 1: we play a one point slam of our own, but
- 34:38Speaker 1: it's the ping pong version on the tiny little table over.
- 34:41Speaker 5: There are a million dollars on the line, but.
- 34:48Speaker 1: If you lose, you have to give us a million dollars.
- 34:52Speaker 2: And you'll have it.
- 34:55Speaker 1: So I think it'll be between you and Lizzie. Tokay,
- 34:58Speaker 1: So decide to decide who serves. We're gonna do rock
- 35:02Speaker 1: paper scissors, whatever you want to call it. What do
