- 1:51Speaker 3: reports of some traffic conditions of the work less than

- 1:58Speaker 3: things of that nature. There's also a major accident in

- 2:06Speaker 3: kind of quiet today during the evening hours, which is
- 2:08Speaker 3: good news for the Charleston Christmas Parade, but then it's
- 2:11Speaker 3: going to turn ugly overnight and for the morning commute,
- 2:14Speaker 3: with more snow on the way throughout the day tomorrow
- 2:16Speaker 3: and a lot more snow is what they're saying Saturday

- 2:56Speaker 3: good morning, welcome to the show.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Hey, good morning, glad to be here. I'm happy to
- 3:01Speaker 4: see you again. It's been a while, but a while.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Great to have you in the studio. It's congratulations on
- 3:05Speaker 3: the new dog by the way, thank you. Uh he
- 3:07Speaker 3: brought his dog with him today and uh and that's
- 3:10Speaker 3: it's pretty cool. What's the dog's name? Jud jud Okay,
- 3:14Speaker 3: I got to ask a story. Where'd the name come from?
- 3:16Speaker 4: Okay, So I had a dog before who was named
- 3:18Speaker 4: Creed and he was named after the family from pet
- 3:21Speaker 4: Cemetery by Stephen King and Judd was the neighbor. So okay,
- 3:24Speaker 4: I stuck with a theme, keeping keeping that theme going. Allright,
- 3:27Speaker 4: let's talk about this production that you got going on
- 3:29Speaker 4: at the Album Theater. What is it?
- 3:30Speaker 3: And tell me all about it.
- 3:31Speaker 4: I can do that. So we're doing Inspecting Carol. It
- 3:34Speaker 4: opens tomorrow. If you want to get tickets, and I
- 3:38Speaker 4: highly suggest you do, go to the Alban Arts Center
- 3:42Speaker 4: website and those tickets are They were doing Friday, Saturday,
- 3:45Speaker 4: Sunday this weekend and next. So, like I said, the
- 3:49Speaker 4: show's Inspecting Carol. It is a really really funny show
- 3:53Speaker 4: with a great ensemble cast, and it's about a local
- 3:58Speaker 4: theater troupe that's putting together their annual production of a
- 4:01Speaker 4: Christmas Carol, and everything that could go wrong goes wrong,
- 4:06Speaker 4: and so chaos and sues. They're being always.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Love it when you say chaos and.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Sus chaos and zues, I mean, you know what more
- 4:13Speaker 4: fun can you have when that happens. So an inspector
- 4:17Speaker 4: from the government, from the NEA, the National Endowment for
- 4:20Speaker 4: the Arts is supposedly coming to watch to see whether
- 4:23Speaker 4: or not they're going to get their money. And if
- 4:25Speaker 4: anybody has ever dealt with local theater troops, you know
- 4:28Speaker 4: that every dollar is important. So they're freaking out. They're
- 4:32Speaker 4: trying to accommodate who they think is the inspector, and yeah,
- 4:37Speaker 4: so everything just goes off the rails.
- 4:39Speaker 3: I'm not familiar with this production. Is this pretty I mean,
- 4:42Speaker 3: I mean this other place is pretty pretty popular production.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Yeah, it came out in the early nineties. I think
- 4:49Speaker 4: the first show was in Seattle, if I'm not mistaken,
- 4:53Speaker 4: and so it's been done a few times around the country.
- 4:56Speaker 4: I can't think of any like major you're you know,
- 5:00Speaker 4: like off Broadway or anything, but I know it's it's
- 5:04Speaker 4: a lot of local places do it, local theater troops
- 5:06Speaker 4: obviously because of the subject matter. So yeah, it seems
- 5:10Speaker 4: to be popular. I hadn't heard of it either until
- 5:13Speaker 4: until you know, auditions for it, and it's just hilarious.
- 5:17Speaker 4: I as soon as I read it, I was like,
- 5:19Speaker 4: oh wow, because there's so much there's there are great
- 5:21Speaker 4: jokes in there, but there's a great physical comedy as well,
- 5:25Speaker 4: and and it was a blast doing it, so it
- 5:27Speaker 4: should be very entertaining.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Who are some of the other folks from the area
- 5:30Speaker 3: that are going to be in the production.
- 5:31Speaker 4: Jeff Okay, so Jeff Bukovinski is in it. I know
- 5:35Speaker 4: Jeff does a lot of local productions. Stuart Frasier's of
- 5:40Speaker 4: course the director. Oh wow, Why am I like suddenly
- 5:48Speaker 4: like that on me?
- 5:49Speaker 2: No?
- 5:49Speaker 4: No, that that was like, I'm I've been thinking of
- 5:52Speaker 4: their character names so much.
- 5:55Speaker 3: But I'm like, what you should do? You should?
- 5:59Speaker 4: I'm so alright, Yeah, there are several and if any
- 6:04Speaker 4: of you are listening, I do know your actual names.
- 6:08Speaker 4: It's all.
- 6:08Speaker 3: It's all good. We want people to buy it to
- 6:10Speaker 3: the characters more than the individuals anyway. But the bottom
- 6:13Speaker 3: line is there's a lot of actors in his play,
- 6:15Speaker 3: Jeff that people in the Canal Valley are going.
- 6:17Speaker 4: To know the guy. I've acted with several of them before,
- 6:20Speaker 4: we've worked together or seen them and other things, so
- 6:23Speaker 4: you'll definitely recognize many of the faces. So we do
- 6:26Speaker 4: have the young man that's playing tiny Well Luther and
- 6:31Speaker 4: then tiny Tim within the play is that he's never
- 6:37Speaker 4: acted before. This is his first time doing it and
- 6:41Speaker 4: it's been fun, you know, watching him kind of helping,
- 6:44Speaker 4: and everybody's been so great about giving tips and working together.
- 6:48Speaker 4: It's it's been a really fun show. I've enjoyed it.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Now, I've known you for some time and you've done
- 6:53Speaker 3: a lot of different things in your life. Why acting,
- 6:56Speaker 3: I mean, because you've had a lot of me You've
- 6:57Speaker 3: done You've had many hats over the years, and I
- 6:59Speaker 3: didn't know that you were into the acting. Thing. That
- 7:01Speaker 3: said something that I learned today. But what is it
- 7:03Speaker 3: about doing these productions? It appeals to you.
- 7:06Speaker 4: So I started acting when I was maybe around ten
- 7:10Speaker 4: or so, in church productions and like church plays and
- 7:13Speaker 4: skits and then small school productions or skits and whatnot,
- 7:18Speaker 4: and I just I loved it, and I intended initially
- 7:25Speaker 4: at least, to try to pursue acting as a career,
- 7:28Speaker 4: and of course, you know, it's insanely difficult to break
- 7:32Speaker 4: in to actually make money or make a career of it.
- 7:36Speaker 4: So I kept doing stuff and taking acting classes and
- 7:39Speaker 4: things in college, and then started working in the political arena,
- 7:43Speaker 4: where you know, I did most of my work, and
- 7:47Speaker 4: you know, minus being in the military. Like you said,
- 7:49Speaker 4: many hats.
- 7:50Speaker 3: But thank you for your service, by.
- 7:51Speaker 4: The way, Oh absolutely, it was my pleasure to do it.
- 7:54Speaker 4: So I you know, just did things over the years.
- 7:57Speaker 4: I didn't act for several years when I was in
- 8:00Speaker 4: the army and things, and then when I moved back here,
- 8:05Speaker 4: well I moved back here in twenty fourteen, but in
- 8:07Speaker 4: twenty twenty a friend of mine asked me to be
- 8:11Speaker 4: in a Shakespeare production and I was like, well, I
- 8:13Speaker 4: haven't really acted in several years, but why not. And
- 8:16Speaker 4: I did it and immediately it was like, oh, yeah,
- 8:19Speaker 4: this is I remember how much I love doing this.
- 8:21Speaker 4: And so I've done a few shows every year since
- 8:26Speaker 4: since then.
- 8:27Speaker 3: So I think, sometimes, Jeff, I think they forget that
- 8:30Speaker 3: they don't think about Charleston, and I mean the Kanaha
- 8:33Speaker 3: Valley in general, but there's always something going on production wise,
- 8:36Speaker 3: play wise, you know that for a theater. There's always
- 8:39Speaker 3: something going on in Charleston everywhere from the you know.
- 8:41Speaker 3: And we're going to talk to the symphony a little
- 8:43Speaker 3: bit later on, and I know that's totally different. But
- 8:45Speaker 3: my point is that we have a very thriving art
- 8:47Speaker 3: scene in general here in the Kanahua Valley.
- 8:50Speaker 4: Yeah, we really do. And that was something that was
- 8:53Speaker 4: in this present when I was younger. I mean, you
- 8:55Speaker 4: had the bigger ones obviously, but over the last few
- 8:59Speaker 4: years it looks like across the state, even not just
- 9:02Speaker 4: not just the valley, but that there are a lot
- 9:05Speaker 4: more productions, a lot more regular shows instead of just
- 9:08Speaker 4: one or two a year. And I, you know, I
- 9:11Speaker 4: try to go out and do do whatever I can.
- 9:15Speaker 4: I do some stuff with a small troop called tip
- 9:18Speaker 4: Jar Theater, and we do some dramatic readings and Celtic
- 9:21Speaker 4: calling and things like that. And we formed from a
- 9:25Speaker 4: group that had worked together on the Shakespeare Place. So yeah,
- 9:28Speaker 4: there are plenty of options for folks to get involved,
- 9:32Speaker 4: even if they don't want to act. You know, we
- 9:34Speaker 4: always need plays, always need others to help in whatever capacity.
- 9:39Speaker 4: They can.
- 9:40Speaker 3: And the behind the scenes is just as important as
- 9:42Speaker 3: the people in front of the camera.
- 9:43Speaker 4: Oh absolutely, absolutely, in some ways more important.
- 9:46Speaker 3: I said camera met Kurt and I'm sorry.
- 9:48Speaker 4: I didn't even catch that, but yeah, so yeah, and
- 9:51Speaker 4: the Albans has some productions and auditions coming up too,
- 9:55Speaker 4: So while you're on there getting tickets, check it out
- 9:57Speaker 4: and audition for something, even if you've never done it before,
- 10:00Speaker 4: or you know, try it out and you might find
- 10:02Speaker 4: a new hobby or passion.
- 10:04Speaker 3: There's I mean, I was on the website looking around
- 10:06Speaker 3: before the interview today, Jeff, and there's all kinds of
- 10:08Speaker 3: things going on, not just during the Christmas season, but
- 10:10Speaker 3: throughout the year. I know Landal's bringing his home for
- 10:12Speaker 3: the Holidays tour there here soon as well, so there's
- 10:16Speaker 3: always something going on, all right, give us the info
- 10:18Speaker 3: on the on your particular production, get hit it again
- 10:21Speaker 3: the time the dates tickets go.
- 10:23Speaker 4: Yes, so we open tomorrow. We have Friday Saturday Sunday
- 10:29Speaker 4: shows this weekend and next the eight o'clock Friday Saturday
- 10:34Speaker 4: two o'clock Sunday. Tickets are on the alban ArtCenter dot com.
- 10:41Speaker 4: And the show is inspecting Carol. It's a play within
- 10:46Speaker 4: a play about a local theater troop putting together their
- 10:49Speaker 4: annual production of a Christmas Carol when everything goes wrong.
- 10:52Speaker 4: I play Phil in the play and then Bob Cratchit
- 10:56Speaker 4: in the Christmas Carol part of it, and I'm kind
- 10:59Speaker 4: of a jerk, and I mean that in character, even
- 11:02Speaker 4: though you know some might say, yeah, we know that.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Well, I'm sure you'll do great man, Great to have
- 11:07Speaker 3: you here on the show. We wish you the best
- 11:08Speaker 3: of luck with everything in the production, everything else you're

- 14:08Speaker 4: Hey, good morning, how are you.
- 14:09Speaker 3: I am doing fine. We're going to get some things
- 14:10Speaker 3: in the Treasure's office a little later, but I want
- 14:12Speaker 3: to talk about an event that you are going to
- 14:15Speaker 3: be part of later in this month that has to
- 14:17Speaker 3: do with east Bank.
- 14:18Speaker 4: Oh, yes, absolutely, you know this.
- 14:19Speaker 5: It's interesting in life, you wear a lot of different
- 14:21Speaker 5: hats of different seasons of life, but some hats you
- 14:24Speaker 5: never take off. So I never take off an east
- 14:26Speaker 5: Bank Pioneer hat. And I'm really blessed to be able
- 14:28Speaker 5: to attend pretty much a monthly meeting that we have.
- 14:32Speaker 5: It's basically a sports meeting of folks that have played
- 14:34Speaker 5: ball at tech Excise me at east Bank over many
- 14:37Speaker 5: many years, and we talk about all things east Bank.
- 14:40Speaker 5: But one of the things that the guys and gals
- 14:43Speaker 5: wanted to do this year. They wanted to have a
- 14:44Speaker 5: fundraiser to support the three grade schools that are elementary
- 14:48Speaker 5: schools that are still left on our side of the river,
- 14:50Speaker 5: on the East Bank side of the river. And so
- 14:52Speaker 5: they came up with an idea, let's have a breakfast.
- 14:54Speaker 5: We're going to do it this Saturday before Christmas on
- 14:56Speaker 5: December of the twentieth at Marmette Rex Center. They'll be
- 14:59Speaker 5: at ten dollars ask for a ten dollars contribution, but
- 15:02Speaker 5: all the money that's raised that day will go to
- 15:04Speaker 5: those three three elementary schools.
- 15:06Speaker 4: And so we're inviting.
- 15:08Speaker 5: Athletes, cheerleaders, major, ratually, everybody their base, got any association
- 15:12Speaker 5: with East Bank. Judge Hardy will be there. So again
- 15:15Speaker 5: we think we'll have three four hundred people. Hopefull we
- 15:17Speaker 5: can raise a lot of money and be able to
- 15:19Speaker 5: give it back to the grade schools.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Are you able to rope Jeff Jenkins into this?
- 15:22Speaker 4: Jeff Jenkins will hopefully we will be there. Yes, Yeah,
- 15:25Speaker 4: we got to speak.
- 15:26Speaker 5: Our speakers are going to be I think are our
- 15:28Speaker 5: master's ceremonies is going to be General Tacket, Proud eas
- 15:30Speaker 5: Bank guy Chris Massey for a former NFL player, will
- 15:34Speaker 5: be one of speakers. Also Marshall Grad and Jeff Davenport,
- 15:38Speaker 5: who was a tech tech grad and then went on
- 15:40Speaker 5: to play in the Kansas City Baseball in baseball is
- 15:43Speaker 5: in the Major League. So we'll have a really good crowd.
- 15:46Speaker 5: We'll have a lot of a membability from East Bank
- 15:48Speaker 5: that people will be able to buy and look at
- 15:50Speaker 5: and so forth. So jerseys, hats, pictures and different things.
- 15:53Speaker 5: So it's going to be a really a really fun.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Time talk about that. I think sometimes, Larry, what happens
- 16:01Speaker 3: is is that, you know, communities love to everybody loves
- 16:04Speaker 3: to reminisce, everybody loves to get together and things of
- 16:06Speaker 3: that nature. But what I've learned in being with this
- 16:09Speaker 3: company and being in this market for the last five
- 16:11Speaker 3: years or so on this show specifically, is that there's
- 16:14Speaker 3: a certain special pride that comes from from that part
- 16:17Speaker 3: of the count everybody's proud of their community, at least
- 16:19Speaker 3: they should be, but you guys from that part of
- 16:22Speaker 3: the world take it to another level.
- 16:23Speaker 5: Oh that's really strong, it really is. And so anytime
- 16:26Speaker 5: you run into an East banker. I was in the
- 16:27Speaker 5: Eastern Panhandle this week and or this this is back
- 16:30Speaker 5: in the summer and met someone from me Spank many
- 16:33Speaker 5: years ago.
- 16:33Speaker 4: But yeah, we do have a lot of pride, without
- 16:35Speaker 4: a doubt.
- 16:36Speaker 5: When you go back into particularly in the sixties and
- 16:37Speaker 5: set fifty sixties and seventies, and even in the eighties,
- 16:41Speaker 5: we had a lot of state championships and a lot
- 16:43Speaker 5: of different sports, but mostly baseball and football. It just
- 16:47Speaker 5: really comes to the sense of community that we have.
- 16:49Speaker 5: And that's one of the special things about West Virginia itself,
- 16:52Speaker 5: and I think gets lost by people that are not
- 16:54Speaker 5: from West Virginia. It's just our pride in the communities.
- 16:57Speaker 5: And so where we're talking about eat spank, we're talking
- 16:59Speaker 5: boot upon, we're talk talk about logan. We wear that
- 17:02Speaker 5: every day of our lives.
- 17:04Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think when you when you move away
- 17:07Speaker 3: from those areas, it even manifests itself even more. I mean,
- 17:12Speaker 3: I mean you feel it even stronger. I think bond
- 17:15Speaker 3: with it when you're maybe not necessarily there anymore because
- 17:18Speaker 3: you're thinking that's that's my home area.
- 17:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Let's talk about some of those teams over the years
- 17:23Speaker 3: at East Bank, not specifically the teams, but about the
- 17:26Speaker 3: success that they had over theirship because, as you said, Larry,
- 17:28Speaker 3: they had a lot of success, A lot of success.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:31Speaker 5: So like in the tenure when I was at East
- 17:33Speaker 5: Bank a little bit before. So we won championships in
- 17:35Speaker 5: seventy one and seventy three. So two years row or
- 17:38Speaker 5: two years out of three, I was on the seventy
- 17:39Speaker 5: three team. We're high six to nothing. I played at Parkersburg.
- 17:44Speaker 5: I remember just like it was yesterday. You never forget
- 17:47Speaker 5: that Eric Frakeovich was the weird high quarterback. I think
- 17:51Speaker 5: he went on to play college. I love meeting people
- 17:54Speaker 5: from Rierton and ask them if they remember that game,
- 17:57Speaker 5: and then I tell them some of these spanks I
- 17:58Speaker 5: enjoyed a little bit more than that.
- 18:00Speaker 4: Did you play? I was? I have had a lot
- 18:02Speaker 4: of speech, So I played tackle.
- 18:03Speaker 3: So that's a you know, well, you know, a couple
- 18:05Speaker 3: of months ago, Jeff Jenkins comes in here and I
- 18:08Speaker 3: think it was on a Friday, and you know, he
- 18:10Speaker 3: was still wearing his East Bank High school jersey and
- 18:14Speaker 3: he could not a lot of people can say that
- 18:17Speaker 3: they could that they could wear their clothing from high school,
- 18:20Speaker 3: but Jeff Jenkins can. He looked like he could suit
- 18:22Speaker 3: up for the Pioneers when he was in here wearing
- 18:25Speaker 3: that jersey a couple of weeks ago.
- 18:26Speaker 4: Oh he does.
- 18:26Speaker 5: And we'll we'll have at the breakfast, we're going to
- 18:29Speaker 5: have to think about one hundred East Bank caps that
- 18:30Speaker 5: we're going to sell, baseball caps that we're going to
- 18:32Speaker 5: sell for about fifteen dollars, So someone's don't donated that
- 18:35Speaker 5: the money we all go to the go to the schools.
- 18:38Speaker 4: Uh.
- 18:39Speaker 5: And I think you'll see a lot of a lot
- 18:40Speaker 5: of blue East Bank caps around town here and are
- 18:43Speaker 5: in a couple of weeks. But we do again, I
- 18:45Speaker 5: think the sense of pride in our communities, it really
- 18:47Speaker 5: is the most special thing about West Virginia. And that's
- 18:50Speaker 5: also why, you know, when we get these bigger issues
- 18:51Speaker 5: of closing schools and so it hurts right because it
- 18:54Speaker 5: is a part of our identity.
- 18:56Speaker 3: We we all understand, you know, near the treasurer so
- 18:58Speaker 3: you especially understanding, you stand the economics of it. But
- 19:02Speaker 3: we would love to live in an era where every
- 19:05Speaker 3: community has their schools, you know, And because it's the
- 19:10Speaker 3: people have heard me talk about it before, Larry. It's
- 19:12Speaker 3: the center point of the community. It's where everything takes
- 19:15Speaker 3: place from boy Scouts to you know, water meetings and
- 19:18Speaker 3: so on and so forth. It's where every fall carnivals,
- 19:20Speaker 3: that's where everything takes place. And I understand the economics
- 19:23Speaker 3: of it, I really really do. I completely understand it.
- 19:26Speaker 3: And you know what's been going on with closing and
- 19:28Speaker 3: consolidations and schools all over West Virginia. I completely get it.
- 19:31Speaker 3: But it doesn't make it any easier for the people
- 19:33Speaker 3: in those communities.
- 19:34Speaker 4: It really does.
- 19:34Speaker 5: In est Spank, I'm a third generation in East Bank graduate.
- 19:37Speaker 5: My grandmother graduated from me Spank High School in nineteen
- 19:40Speaker 5: twenty eight. So there was a high school or junior
- 19:42Speaker 5: high middle school in East Bank for over one hundred years.
- 19:45Speaker 5: And so when that history is lost, when the middle
- 19:48Speaker 5: schools closed this year, it really is difficult on the community,
- 19:52Speaker 5: without a doubt, but we do everything. That's one of
- 19:54Speaker 5: the reasons we do events like this, is the reason
- 19:56Speaker 5: why we do do lunches, we still do re unions,
- 19:58Speaker 5: is we want to keep it alive. We want to
- 19:59Speaker 5: keep talking about East Bank and just remembering all the
- 20:03Speaker 5: great things. And again, because most of us, all of
- 20:04Speaker 5: us really are where we are today because of the
- 20:07Speaker 5: education through because of the community. Community that raises us up.
- 20:10Speaker 3: What kind of a buy in do you have from
- 20:11Speaker 3: people that are no longer in West Virginia. I mean
- 20:13Speaker 3: people that have moved on to other states.
- 20:15Speaker 5: All the East Bank Facebook Friends stuff is really really busy,
- 20:19Speaker 5: so we'll have a lot of people come in. We
- 20:21Speaker 5: just did we do a reunion once a year. It's
- 20:24Speaker 5: in September, last Saturday in September. We were able to
- 20:27Speaker 5: go this year, and we have people from all over
- 20:29Speaker 5: the country that came in. You know, we think the
- 20:31Speaker 5: oldest person that was there was ninety six, graduated I
- 20:35Speaker 5: think in nineteen thirty two, need to say he won
- 20:38Speaker 5: that prize. But again, we also had folks that came
- 20:41Speaker 5: all the way from California. So again it's that sense
- 20:43Speaker 5: of community and ability to just go back and talk
- 20:46Speaker 5: to folks. And you know, even when I do these lunches.
- 20:48Speaker 5: A few lunches ago, they were talking about the nineteen
- 20:50Speaker 5: sixty Baseball Championship Game, second inning and going through, which
- 20:54Speaker 5: was just a blast that sit there and listen to
- 20:56Speaker 5: us guys talk about that it is and it's.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Just like it was yet like you said, it was
- 20:59Speaker 3: just it was just like it was yesterday, just like
- 21:01Speaker 3: it was yesterday to talk about your time as not
- 21:04Speaker 3: as an athlete, but as a student at East Bank School.
- 21:07Speaker 3: What was it like being a student at East Banks
- 21:10Speaker 3: early seventies that we used.
- 21:11Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I got out in seventy six, so six, okay,
- 21:14Speaker 5: mid seventy so I think we graduated about three fifty.
- 21:16Speaker 4: So it was a big school. We were triple A school.
- 21:18Speaker 3: It's amazing when do you think about it now.
- 21:20Speaker 5: Absolutely, we had four junior highs feeding into it. I
- 21:23Speaker 5: went to Marmott Junior High. Of course, all all these
- 21:25Speaker 5: schools are close now. But we were very competitive in baseball,
- 21:29Speaker 5: very competitive, great teams of baseball, in football, competitive and
- 21:33Speaker 5: other sports. Basketball was kind of decent, but it's a
- 21:36Speaker 5: big school with big bands, a lot of activities always
- 21:39Speaker 5: going on. We played Stonewall, I think when I was
- 21:42Speaker 5: a sophomore when as a freshman Stonwall in football we
- 21:46Speaker 5: had almost nine thousand people they said at their game
- 21:49Speaker 5: in Calvert Field in East Bank. But that was for
- 21:52Speaker 5: it before ESPN and high school was was really big.
- 21:56Speaker 5: And of course Stonewall had great teams like with Walter
- 21:58Speaker 5: Easley who played in the NFL. So those are just
- 22:01Speaker 5: really really good times that I'm blessed to have grown
- 22:04Speaker 5: up in that time and been able to go to
- 22:05Speaker 5: East Bank.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Talking to State treasure Larry Pak, who's stepping away from
- 22:08Speaker 3: his treasure position just for a moment to talk about
- 22:10Speaker 3: this big event with the East Bank. We'll get back
- 22:12Speaker 3: to it here in a couple of moments. The Dave
- 22:13Speaker 3: Island Show in five of E Live is brought to
- 22:15Speaker 3: you in part by your hometown baseball team, the Charleston
- 22:17Speaker 3: Dirty Bird Salaneo loll Light. The Night continues at Go
- 22:20Speaker 3: Mart Ballpark every night through January first, except for Christmas Night.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Get your tickets in advance and please get him in
- 22:25Speaker 3: advance by visiting Dblightthnight dot com. Larry have a text here.
- 22:29Speaker 3: It says Pioneer Pride Worldwide and it's signed Joe. There
- 22:33Speaker 3: you go, So Joe, what we appreciate you listening to
- 22:35Speaker 3: us today. All right, we'll get back to the East
- 22:36Speaker 3: Bank thing a little bit later. On what's making news
- 22:38Speaker 3: in the Treasurer's office these days?
- 22:40Speaker 5: Well, I think it's been it's been a big week
- 22:41Speaker 5: in the Treasure's office, particularly we announced yesterday that we've
- 22:46Speaker 5: revived we continue to revise our numbers for Hope scholarship
- 22:48Speaker 5: for next year, so down I think it's about now,
- 22:51Speaker 5: about two hundred and thirty million dollars. It's kind of
- 22:53Speaker 5: where we think we're going to land. I think with
- 22:55Speaker 5: our previous estimates we're as much as three hundred million dollars.
- 22:58Speaker 5: So we're trying to refine those now to be able
- 23:00Speaker 5: to give the governor, to give the legislature the best
- 23:02Speaker 5: information that we can. It's a lot of money, but
- 23:06Speaker 5: it's not a lot of money when you think of
- 23:08Speaker 5: the total state budget of six billion dollars or whatever
- 23:10Speaker 5: it is. But we we currently have about fifteen thousand
- 23:13Speaker 5: students that are taking advantage of the program. We think
- 23:15Speaker 5: it's going to go up to somewhere around forty thousand,
- 23:18Speaker 5: but next year is the year that it comes becomes
- 23:20Speaker 5: universally available or eligible, and so we're working hard on that,
- 23:24Speaker 5: but we're doing a lot of other stuff. Uncleaned property
- 23:26Speaker 5: continues to come in at bigger and bigger numbers. We
- 23:28Speaker 5: have this really complex financial society culture, and so we
- 23:33Speaker 5: work really hard trying to get that money out back
- 23:35Speaker 5: out to West Virginians. But we currently have about five
- 23:37Speaker 5: hundred million dollars of West Virginians money into our account.
- 23:40Speaker 5: So if anybody's lessening today other than planning to go
- 23:43Speaker 5: to these bank breakfast, please go the website and check
- 23:47Speaker 5: and see if we've got your money.
- 23:48Speaker 4: We'd love to give it back. I want to.
- 23:50Speaker 3: I want you to explain that unclean property, because we
- 23:53Speaker 3: hear that all the time. You hear it on our news,
- 23:55Speaker 3: you see it in the paper and whatever. But many
- 23:57Speaker 3: people may not understand what exactly that is. So break
- 24:00Speaker 3: it down for dumb it down for people like me.
- 24:02Speaker 3: What exactly does that mean when you say unclaimed property?
- 24:05Speaker 4: Yeah, it's it's it's really it's really kind of interesting.
- 24:08Speaker 5: When I when I took the job, I think I
- 24:10Speaker 5: thought it was more just a dormant savings account, right,
- 24:13Speaker 5: but it is so much more than that. So it
- 24:15Speaker 5: is savings accounts, but it's refunds that maybe come from
- 24:17Speaker 5: a hospital, will come from a doctor, from an insurance company,
- 24:20Speaker 5: maybe they maybe you moved and they didn't get the
- 24:22Speaker 5: right address, or maybe they put your wrong address in South.
- 24:26Speaker 5: It could be a gift certificate that that that you
- 24:29Speaker 5: would didn't didn't spend. It could be utility deposits. That's
- 24:32Speaker 5: just so many different directions and ways that could come
- 24:36Speaker 5: a school school refunds. But basically what happens is if
- 24:39Speaker 5: a company or an entity has money and they can't
- 24:42Speaker 5: find the right fore owner, they're required to send it
- 24:44Speaker 5: to the Treasurer's office and then our job is to
- 24:46Speaker 5: go out and try to find you. And so it
- 24:48Speaker 5: could be sometimes it's government's money, sometimes it's nonprofits money,
- 24:51Speaker 5: it's the individual's money.
- 24:52Speaker 4: So it can be an inheritance.
- 24:54Speaker 5: If you remember, uh, you know the Depression Areas Society group. Uh,
- 24:59Speaker 5: they didn't tell anybody wear their money. Yes, so sometimes
- 25:02Speaker 5: it's in a bank in the next next town that
- 25:04Speaker 5: the kids, as a grandkids didn't know about. So it
- 25:06Speaker 5: can come at you a lot of different direction. But
- 25:08Speaker 5: against just our complex financial situation where we don't do
- 25:11Speaker 5: as much cash these days, and stuff just goes lots
- 25:13Speaker 5: of different directions.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Talking to State Treasurer Larry Pack, all right, so we're
- 25:17Speaker 3: just a couple of weeks away from Christmas, but then
- 25:19Speaker 3: after that things are really going to ramp up as
- 25:22Speaker 3: far as the legislature goes. We saw just a couple
- 25:24Speaker 3: of days ago that the House Speaker, Roger Hanshaw, came
- 25:26Speaker 3: out with their agenda. Junior of Commerce had Brian Dayton
- 25:29Speaker 3: on the show earlier this week talking about their agenda.
- 25:31Speaker 3: You were one of the early ones that put out
- 25:33Speaker 3: some things for your agenda. How's that looking right now
- 25:36Speaker 3: for the legislative session.
- 25:37Speaker 5: Well, I think it's exciting that people are being very
- 25:41Speaker 5: bold and clear about what they think are the priorities
- 25:44Speaker 5: for West Virginia going forward, and do it, and do it,
- 25:46Speaker 5: do it early in the sixty days session goes very
- 25:49Speaker 5: very fast. I experienced that myself two years in the
- 25:52Speaker 5: House of Delegates and then downstairs with Governor Justice, so
- 25:54Speaker 5: I think it's really really important. We tried to focus
- 25:57Speaker 5: on two or three big things, you know, tax cuts
- 25:59Speaker 5: for working peoples and no tax on overtime, no tax
- 26:02Speaker 5: on on on tips. Term limits. We we think that
- 26:06Speaker 5: these jobs are are are for for public service, they're
- 26:11Speaker 5: not for career. So three terms, go home, go back
- 26:14Speaker 5: and get a job. So we tried to I love that. Yeah,
- 26:17Speaker 5: And then and then of course again, if you don't
- 26:19Speaker 5: have a real world experience, you can't lead other people, right,
- 26:21Speaker 5: you need to make sense. And then teachers, you know,
- 26:23Speaker 5: we talk a lot about education, about schools and closing
- 26:26Speaker 5: schools and so forth, but we're not I don't think
- 26:28Speaker 5: we're talking enough about teachers, and they're the most valuable
- 26:30Speaker 5: employees players in in in that setting. We need to
- 26:34Speaker 5: make sure we take care of them. The mayor the
- 26:37Speaker 5: speakers is economics. Basically, what he've said is is all
- 26:41Speaker 5: our problems, all our challenges, can be mitigated, can be
- 26:44Speaker 5: lessened if we have good jobs. And so his his
- 26:46Speaker 5: entire portfolio was related to that. Uh So I was
- 26:49Speaker 5: able to listen to it. It sounds really, really good. I
- 26:51Speaker 5: look forward to the details, look forward to doing everything
- 26:54Speaker 5: I can to help him move his agenda forward. So
- 26:57Speaker 5: I'm excited about West Virginia. I think we have good leaders,
- 27:00Speaker 5: but we need to go We need to do some
- 27:01Speaker 5: of these things to really let people know that Westinia
- 27:04Speaker 5: is open for business. West Virginia does care about working
- 27:06Speaker 5: people in West Virginia does care about our teachers.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Can I ask you a question, sure anything? Sure? What
- 27:11Speaker 3: are you gonna do it in the future?
- 27:13Speaker 4: Don't know. The Lord's in charge of that.
- 27:15Speaker 5: If you had asked me this five years ago, I
- 27:18Speaker 5: would have said Stone Rise would be operating in five
- 27:22Speaker 5: or six states. I thought we were going to be
- 27:24Speaker 5: in this until we got tired and they sent me
- 27:26Speaker 5: to the farm or something like that. So I don't know.
- 27:29Speaker 5: But what we're trying to do is we're trying to
- 27:31Speaker 5: really lead. We're trying to be consequential. We're trying to
- 27:34Speaker 5: talk about big picture issues. At the same time, we
- 27:36Speaker 5: want to do everything we can to make sure that
- 27:38Speaker 5: we're doing all the duties of the Treasure's Office. Or
- 27:41Speaker 5: we have a meeting today for an investment management board.
- 27:43Speaker 5: We invest about forty million dollars of pension money, so
- 27:46Speaker 5: that's a big part of what we do. But the
- 27:48Speaker 5: future will take care of itself. And right now what
- 27:50Speaker 5: we're going to do is be the best treasure we can.
- 27:51Speaker 3: All right, let's got back to the East Bank thing.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Let's get all the particulars out there and keeps. People
- 27:55Speaker 3: are tuning in late about this reunion of sorts that
- 27:57Speaker 3: you got going on.
- 27:58Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's exactly what it is. It's basically just
- 27:59Speaker 4: the just just they went to reunion.
- 28:01Speaker 5: So we're gonna have a fundraiser on December the twentieth,
- 28:05Speaker 5: and that starts at nine o'clock at the Marmatt Recreation Center.
- 28:08Speaker 5: It's really all about raising money for the three grade
- 28:12Speaker 5: schools that are still left on the East Bake side
- 28:14Speaker 5: of the river, Pratt, Sharon Dawlles in Chesapeake. We have
- 28:17Speaker 5: a lot of East Bank memorability there. We think we
- 28:19Speaker 5: have three or four hundred people there. Chris Massey and
- 28:22Speaker 5: Jeff Davenport will be our speakers general tackle b r MC.
- 28:26Speaker 5: We'll have a lot of good food, a lot of fellowship,
- 28:28Speaker 5: and like say, if you want to get an East
- 28:29Speaker 5: Bank cap, you want to get in East Bank, Jersey,
- 28:31Speaker 5: this would be the place to go. So I look
- 28:33Speaker 5: forward toeing everyone on December of the twenties. So it
- 28:35Speaker 5: doesn't matter if you were an athlete or not. Everybody's
- 28:38Speaker 5: show up. We'll have a good time.
- 28:39Speaker 3: And I just had this image of a bunch of
- 28:41Speaker 3: these former athletes like yourself getting there and talking and
- 28:44Speaker 3: one thing leads to another and then you end up
- 28:46Speaker 3: outside trying to run plays again. Is that gonna happen?
- 28:49Speaker 5: I sure hope it doesn't with me, because I have
- 28:51Speaker 5: come my worth, O buddy, real quick after that.
- 28:53Speaker 4: All right?
- 28:54Speaker 3: See chreach of Larry pac Man. It's always a pleasure
- 28:56Speaker 3: to have you on the show. Appreciate appreciate you being here.

- 32:55Speaker 3: Got a busy, busy weekend coming up? Right? Busy busy
- 32:58Speaker 3: couple of weeks, But go ahead, busy couple of weeks.
- 33:01Speaker 15: We just ended a fantastic series of sounds of the season.
- 33:03Speaker 15: So thank you everyone who came out and visited us
- 33:05Speaker 15: in all not only Charleston, but Lewisburg and Parkersburg.
- 33:08Speaker 14: So our orchestra has.
- 33:09Speaker 15: Been all over the place and we are really excited
- 33:11Speaker 15: that on Friday we are going to be joined by
- 33:14Speaker 15: our friends with the Charlesta Ballet for one of my
- 33:16Speaker 15: favorite things we do every single year are annual performance
- 33:18Speaker 15: of the Nutcracker.
- 33:19Speaker 16: Yes, I mean this is a really great concert every year.
- 33:22Speaker 16: We've been doing it now many many years, and it's
- 33:25Speaker 16: special for a number of reasons. But one of the
- 33:27Speaker 16: main reasons is that so many productions of the Nutcracker
- 33:31Speaker 16: these days, I mean Nutcracker Traditional Christmas then the story
- 33:34Speaker 16: takes place on Christmas Eve.
- 33:35Speaker 4: You know, it's perfect for the season.
- 33:36Speaker 3: It's beautiful. And a lot of.
- 33:39Speaker 16: Productions of the Nutcracker all across the country are using
- 33:41Speaker 16: more and more pre recorded music, and ours is live music,
- 33:45Speaker 16: one hundred percent of the time, made by live musicians
- 33:47Speaker 16: right in West Virginia. And you know, there's a few
- 33:49Speaker 16: reasons why that matters. One is that you're never going
- 33:53Speaker 16: to get the immediacy and power of the score of
- 33:59Speaker 16: the notes that You'reovski wrote from a recording in a
- 34:02Speaker 16: concert hall. There's just something you know, the way the
- 34:03Speaker 16: concert hall is designed, the way that we are sitting
- 34:05Speaker 16: all together, you know, fifteen hundred people, two thousand people
- 34:08Speaker 16: sitting there watching this. You need that immediacy of real people.
- 34:11Speaker 16: And the second is that dancers do different things. We're
- 34:13Speaker 16: going to do three concerts of the Nutcracker Friday night,
- 34:15Speaker 16: Saturday afternoon, Saturday night, and the dancers are going to
- 34:18Speaker 16: do things a little bit differently each time. And part
- 34:20Speaker 16: of our job in the orchestra is to be flexible
- 34:23Speaker 16: enough and be accommodating enough so that these great dancers
- 34:26Speaker 16: in the Charles tun Bala can do their best work
- 34:28Speaker 16: and not worry about having to time themselves perfectly to
- 34:32Speaker 16: something that's been pre recorded.
- 34:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 34:34Speaker 3: Amen to that as somebody who's not a musician, but
- 34:36Speaker 3: as somebody who I just prefer a lot music exactly.
- 34:40Speaker 3: I mean, that's the way. I mean. Everybody talks about
- 34:42Speaker 3: the big debate every year about the Super Bowl, and
- 34:44Speaker 3: I say, I don't care who performs, as long as
- 34:47Speaker 3: you do it live, right, Well, that's the only thing
- 34:49Speaker 3: I care about.
- 34:50Speaker 16: Right Well, that's what it's about. You know, I mean,
- 34:51Speaker 16: music is about a connection between a person, like two
- 34:54Speaker 16: different people or thousands of people or whoever it is
- 34:56Speaker 16: performing and listening, and it's you have to be there,
- 35:00Speaker 16: you know, for it to be that special.
- 35:01Speaker 3: And three different performances you may see three different things.
- 35:05Speaker 16: Exactly what and you will I mean, you know, because
- 35:07Speaker 16: it really and it's it's really wonderful. Actually every year,
- 35:10Speaker 16: you know, I keep this is now, you know, my
- 35:13Speaker 16: third year here and so this will be my third
- 35:16Speaker 16: time during the Nutcracker, and I every people always ask,
- 35:20Speaker 16: you know, what's your favorite? Which night should I come?
- 35:22Speaker 16: You know, which which which performance should I come to? Friday,
- 35:25Speaker 16: Friday night, Saturday afternoon, Saturday night? And every year I
- 35:28Speaker 16: leave thinking that they were all I can't pick one,
- 35:31Speaker 16: because there's you know, Friday night has that excitement energy,
- 35:34Speaker 16: it's the first one. You know, everyone's really kind of
- 35:36Speaker 16: got that extra kind of buzz, you know, and then
- 35:39Speaker 16: Saturday there's in the afternoon, it's a totally different vibe
- 35:43Speaker 16: because it's the afternoon and people are in a different headspace,
- 35:45Speaker 16: and so there's you know, there's people take things a
- 35:47Speaker 16: little bit differently. Maybe they take maybe more risks or
- 35:49Speaker 16: something like that, and then Saturday night it's there's so
- 35:52Speaker 16: much celebratoriness because oh we made it, we did all this.
- 35:54Speaker 4: Stuff right and so.
- 35:55Speaker 16: But but each one sort of lends the performance in
- 35:58Speaker 16: very subtle but meaningful ways, just a little bit of
- 36:00Speaker 16: a different, different feel, and so it's really great to
- 36:03Speaker 16: get to have that journey.
- 36:05Speaker 3: Again. We're talking about the Nutcracker, but there's a lot
- 36:07Speaker 3: of other things going on. A man, I will to
- 36:09Speaker 3: let you talk about some other things that that we've
- 36:11Speaker 3: had going on and where we're going in the future.
- 36:12Speaker 15: Yeah, So again, we just wrapped up some great Sounds
- 36:15Speaker 15: of the Season concerts. If you are a fan of
- 36:18Speaker 15: pops music, Christmas music, holiday music, you really missed out,
- 36:20Speaker 15: so make sure you takets early next year. But on
- 36:23Speaker 15: Sunday too, after our fantastic Orchestra does three performances with
- 36:27Speaker 15: the Valley for the Nutcracker, we're going to be taking
- 36:29Speaker 15: the Clay Center stage once more with our wonderful West
- 36:32Speaker 15: Virginia Symphony Course and they're going to be performing Handles
- 36:34Speaker 15: Messiah on Sunday evening at seven thirty. It's something they
- 36:37Speaker 15: do typically once a year, but it's really really, really
- 36:40Speaker 15: special when we get to do it in the Clay
- 36:41Speaker 15: Center Hall and add just an extra element of not
- 36:46Speaker 15: only orchestral excellence, because the hall is so wonderfully musically
- 36:51Speaker 15: sound that it really feels nice and warm, and it
- 36:53Speaker 15: is another great way to bring in the holiday spirit,
- 36:56Speaker 15: especially if you'd like to do something a little bit
- 36:58Speaker 15: more with the coral music, a little bit more of
- 37:01Speaker 15: a religious aspect rather than the Nutcracker.
- 37:04Speaker 3: Well, and the temperatures on Sunday are going to be
- 37:06Speaker 3: in the low twenty so anything that makes us feel
- 37:08Speaker 3: warm would be a good thing.
- 37:10Speaker 15: Well, nice warm concert hall, warm music, filling the things
- 37:13Speaker 15: in that epic hallelujah course. I mean that is one
- 37:16Speaker 15: thing that you can't bring in the holiday season without.
- 37:18Speaker 16: Right, stay cozy with the Symphony.
- 37:19Speaker 3: I'm gonna have you kind of put a bow on,
- 37:22Speaker 3: no pun intended on the year twenty twenty five for
- 37:25Speaker 3: the Symphony, because this is it's been an exciting year.
- 37:28Speaker 3: You've had a lot of great things going on. This
- 37:29Speaker 3: is probably be the last time we'll talk to you
- 37:30Speaker 3: this year. We'll be talking to you plenty in twenty
- 37:32Speaker 3: twenty six, but just kind of do the year and
- 37:35Speaker 3: review thing.
- 37:36Speaker 15: Yeah, Well, we had a great beginning to our Symphonic
- 37:38Speaker 15: series opening and I kicked off with a bang, and
- 37:41Speaker 15: then our second shunter, we really got to feature some
- 37:44Speaker 15: homegrown talent. Linda Goodman, who's our principal flute performs an
- 37:47Speaker 15: amazing couple of pieces, including a world premiere for the
- 37:52Speaker 15: Symphony not Nancy Galbreits Concerto, which was really really fun.
- 37:55Speaker 15: Our Pop season two is already halfway over, which is
- 37:58Speaker 15: crazy to think about. This is not typic what our
- 38:01Speaker 15: season does. But we started early this year with Listen
- 38:03Speaker 15: where You Live and celebrated Bands of Charleston in the
- 38:07Speaker 15: Music of West Virginia, which was an epiicit and again
- 38:10Speaker 15: we finished with Sounds of the Season. So we're really
- 38:12Speaker 15: looking forward to this last weekend of concerts, and like
- 38:14Speaker 15: you said, we've got a lot of really great things
- 38:16Speaker 15: coming up in twenty twenty six, some fantastic Pops concerts,
- 38:19Speaker 15: including one I'm really particularly excited about with an Illusionist,
- 38:22Speaker 15: So we'll be doing some magic on stage with the orchestra.
- 38:25Speaker 15: We'll be bringing Carmena Barana back to the stage too,
- 38:28Speaker 15: which the last time we were supposed to do that
- 38:29Speaker 15: was right before COVID hits, So something that we've been
- 38:32Speaker 15: yearning for for quite some time, and then we'll wrap
- 38:35Speaker 15: up the season. Not only was a Van corpseymbody Sunday,
- 38:38Speaker 15: but with another collaboration with the ballet in May of
- 38:40Speaker 15: twenty twenty six, we're doing Swan Lake too, So lots
- 38:43Speaker 15: of amazing things that we've already done and lots of
- 38:45Speaker 15: great things to come.
- 38:46Speaker 3: And remind people why they should start planning for twenty
- 38:49Speaker 3: twenty six. In other words, you know, to start looking
- 38:52Speaker 3: at the tickets too.
- 38:53Speaker 15: Oh yeah, start looking at your tickets now. All of
- 38:55Speaker 15: our concerts, we like to think, are super super affordable.
- 38:57Speaker 15: Everything starts typically about fourteen dollars for individual to get
- 39:01Speaker 15: into the concert hall. But if you want those really
- 39:04Speaker 15: great seats, especially for the illusionists, I would go ahead
- 39:06Speaker 15: and get those reserved now. As we're getting closer to
- 39:09Speaker 15: these really great concerts and we get closer to sellouts,
- 39:11Speaker 15: which is what we want in Charleston, which is what
- 39:13Speaker 15: we want in the valley. Keeps us bringing these amazing
- 39:16Speaker 15: symphonic and arts works to the stage on these great collaborations.
- 39:20Speaker 15: So get your tickets now. Visit Wbsymphony dot org. That's

- 39:39Speaker 3: There are so many, I mean, just the next couple
- 39:41Speaker 3: of days, guys. And I've spent a lot of time
- 39:42Speaker 3: over the last few shows talking about some of these
- 39:45Speaker 3: things we had on the Folks earlier from the album theater.
- 39:48Speaker 3: They've got their their product their Christmas productions going on.
- 39:51Speaker 3: They're doing a few shows this weekend. I know that
- 39:54Speaker 3: yesterday I had Bob Thompson on the show, and Joy
- 39:58Speaker 3: to the World is happening, you know, tonight night over
- 40:01Speaker 3: at the Culture Center. Of course, the Charleston Christmas Parade
- 40:04Speaker 3: is going on Tonight's Christmas parades all over this weekend.
- 40:06Speaker 3: If you can't get in the holiday spirit, that's on
- 40:09Speaker 3: you well.
- 40:10Speaker 15: And not only in the holiday spirit, but supporting all
- 40:13Speaker 15: of these local arts organizations in the valley. I mean
- 40:15Speaker 15: it is I mean, look at all of the offerings
- 40:17Speaker 15: we have right now for this entire month.
- 40:19Speaker 14: I mean, if we continue to support them.
- 40:21Speaker 15: The offerings not only will increase in enhance, but I
- 40:24Speaker 15: may be able to share some really, really really exciting
- 40:26Speaker 15: stuff the Symphony might be doing next to Somber too.
- 40:28Speaker 3: All right, Well, I'm like you said that in your
- 40:30Speaker 3: eyes lit up and you've turned around and looked at
- 40:32Speaker 3: Maurice like there's an inside.
- 40:34Speaker 15: Well, I am particularly excited for this upcoming season that
- 40:37Speaker 15: we're working on right now. That announcement will come in
- 40:39Speaker 15: early spring, and some of those pieces and programmings that
- 40:44Speaker 15: we are looking to have are something that we've been
- 40:46Speaker 15: talking about for quite some time for quests that we've
- 40:49Speaker 15: gotten somebers of people. So I can't tease everything this yet.
- 40:51Speaker 15: I will tease it much much more this spring, Dave.
- 40:54Speaker 15: But just know that the West Virginia Symphony is always
- 40:56Speaker 15: looking to do fun and innovative programming as well as
- 40:59Speaker 15: our fun classical stuff.
- 41:01Speaker 14: So make sure you're tuning into us. We're doing good things.
- 41:03Speaker 3: All right. Give us the recap on what we're promoting

- 47:45Speaker 3: was originally scheduled for last Saturday night, but was moved
- 47:48Speaker 3: because Nitro, well, they were a little bit busy the
- 47:50Speaker 3: football team last week playing Princeton for a state championship,

- 49:09Speaker 3: think anything's changing anytime soon in West Virginia, you are
- 49:13Speaker 3: sadly mistaken. Opinion on my part could be totally wrong.
- 49:17Speaker 3: Been wrong before. We've been telling you about this weekend
- 49:19Speaker 3: murder in Charleston and now a second person facing charges.
- 49:23Speaker 3: Morgan Pemberton's story posted this morning wv Metronews dot com.
- 49:26Speaker 3: Twenty five year old Brennan Michael Adkins of Saint Albans
- 49:29Speaker 3: now charged with the first and second degree murder a
- 49:31Speaker 3: thirty one year old Joshua Walls in this murder, and
- 49:37Speaker 3: now previously a thirty three year old by the name
- 49:39Speaker 3: of Jack Roff was charged in Walls's death. Happened on
- 49:42Speaker 3: Main Street in Charleston's Sunday morning when police were called
- 49:45Speaker 3: to a home there. They found Walls with two gunshot wounds.
- 49:48Speaker 3: He was taken to camc where he later died. Now
- 49:51Speaker 3: Raff had stated that it was Adkins that killed Walls.
- 49:54Speaker 3: Roff did turn himself into police earlier this week. Apparently
- 49:57Speaker 3: the cops stumbled up on the name of Brenton Adkins
- 50:01Speaker 3: when they were searching through the deceased phone. Surveillance video
- 50:05Speaker 3: showed two people into the home and two gunshot wounds
- 50:08Speaker 3: can be heard. All apparently from what they're saying, it
- 50:11Speaker 3: all has to do with drugs. Apparently Adkins is in
- 50:15Speaker 3: the Western Regional Jail and Rof is in the South
- 50:18Speaker 3: Central Regional Jail. Both are being held without bond. And
- 50:23Speaker 3: you know, again, it's a tragic story. I didn't It
- 50:26Speaker 3: doesn't matter who these people are. I didn't know any
- 50:27Speaker 3: of them myself, but we do have the story. It
- 50:31Speaker 3: posted about it at over at to wv Metronews dot com.
- 50:35Speaker 3: F Morgan Pemberton close the show by just saying this,
- 50:38Speaker 3: We had a pretty interesting discussion yesterday and it had
- 50:42Speaker 3: to do with Australia banning social media for kids sixteen
- 50:47Speaker 3: and under. We had a really good discussion with a
- 50:52Speaker 3: physician who specializes in mental health for teens, particularly as
- 51:00Speaker 3: it as it applies to social media. So I would
- 51:02Speaker 3: urge you if you haven't, if you want to go
- 51:04Speaker 3: back and listen to that. It's available wv metronews dot com.
- 51:06Speaker 3: The two o'clock interview that I did yesterday, uh, pretty
- 51:10Speaker 3: interesting stuff.
- 51:10Speaker 4: And this was a doctor.
- 51:11Speaker 3: I think he said he had three kids, and he said,
- 51:13Speaker 3: I do not allow my kids uh to be on
- 51:16Speaker 3: social media at all. So that's uh, that's what he's saying.
- 51:21Speaker 3: Text says, OMG, the Trump Trump Trump whining is just
- 51:24Speaker 3: as bad as Jan Brady's Marsha, Marsha, Marsha. Get out
- 51:27Speaker 3: of the basement and get some fresh air once in
- 51:29Speaker 3: a while. Boys and girls says a texture.
- 51:31Speaker 4: Hey, look who's here.
- 51:32Speaker 3: It's TJ Meadows. It's up. How you doing man?
- 51:35Speaker 4: Doing greats?
- 51:36Speaker 3: Just great you. I'm doing well. I'm doing well.
- 51:41Speaker 4: Had a Uh.
- 51:42Speaker 3: I had to get that question into Larry Pack though,
- 51:45Speaker 3: just asking what his future because you know, he he
- 51:47Speaker 3: hears stuff, he knows, he knows what's being said out there.
- 51:50Speaker 3: He's gonna run for governor, sure he knows, but I
- 51:52Speaker 3: had to ask him. Depends on what JJ's going to do.
- 51:56Speaker 3: And JJ hasn't decided yet, yep. And you got to
- 51:59Speaker 3: remember we're talking about twenty eight. You know, we're not
- 52:02Speaker 3: even to twenty twenty six yet, you know. Yeah, but
- 52:05Speaker 3: it's sooner and sooner these days and Christmas decorations and
- 52:08Speaker 3: the difference is it's primary, right, I mean, it's gonna
- 52:11Speaker 3: be contested against the sitting governor, and so it escalates things,
- 52:16Speaker 3: it moves it closer in the election cycles. I just
- 52:19Speaker 3: wonder if you'll see what we saw in the last
- 52:21Speaker 3: election when you had all of these people, was a
- 52:23Speaker 3: five that ran for governor on the Republican side last year.
- 52:25Speaker 3: I mean, you think we'll see that again? I believe that.
- 52:32Speaker 4: I would hope not.
- 52:33Speaker 3: I'll put it that way, all right, all right, give
- 52:35Speaker 3: me quick twenty once you get on talk on today
- 52:37Speaker 3: Senator Joe Manchin, the former US Senator, the great state
- 52:40Speaker 3: of West Virginia ten oh six, Hoppy Kerchiable at eleven six.
- 52:43Speaker 3: Do you need any more other than mansion and Kurgiable?
- 52:46Speaker 3: So we have it if you need it, that's all
- 52:47Speaker 3: you need. All right.
- 52:49Speaker 4: We gotta go.
- 52:50Speaker 3: Thank you so much, Ryan Nicholson, our producer. I will
- 52:53Speaker 3: see you tomorrow. Till then have fun, love somebody, and
