Speaker 2: TG If yes, indeed we have made it to the
1:23
Speaker 2: weekend Sonny in seventy five in the Capital City. Gonna
1:26
Speaker 2: keep saying it till it actually is coming up. You
1:29
Speaker 2: may have heard the story about the fire last Saturday
1:32
Speaker 2: at Logan Elementary School in my native land in Logan County.
1:35
Speaker 2: School itself wasn't destroyed, but did sustain quite a bit
1:39
Speaker 2: of damage and you can imagine what kind of damage
1:41
Speaker 2: smoking water will do to a school. Well, we want
1:44
Speaker 2: to help out. Our guy rob Rio from her sister
1:46
Speaker 2: station ninety six to one KWS is going to join
1:48
Speaker 2: me later on the show to talk about an event
1:51
Speaker 2: the WVRC Media Charleston and specifically ninety six to one
1:54
Speaker 2: KWS is going to be doing to help out down there.
1:56
Speaker 2: We're teaming up with Union Mission and Logan Bank and
1:59
Speaker 2: Trust for what we're calling the Playback to Logan Elementary Schools.
2:03
Speaker 2: There's a reason for the name. We'll explain it, Robwell,
2:05
Speaker 2: it's happening Tuesday at Logan Bank and Trust, which this
2:08
Speaker 2: particular location of LB and T located at Bountain Play
2:11
Speaker 2: Small that Logan. Rob is going to be talking about
2:13
Speaker 2: that a little bit later on the show. We're going

Speaker 2: to introduce you to a lady by the name of
2:16
Speaker 2: Tamika Wilbourn who's going to be honored as the YWCA
2:19
Speaker 2: Charleston Empowerment Award winner. It's an event happened at Embassy
2:23
Speaker 2: Suites in Charleston next week. Plus why why are a
2:26
Speaker 2: lot of Capitol High Cougar fans so upset? It has
2:29
Speaker 2: to do with boys basketball and the regionals. We'll get
2:31
Speaker 2: into that with Daniel Woods talk a little bit about
2:33
Speaker 2: that big announcement from the governor yesterday. TJ. Meadows will
2:36
Speaker 2: stop by, and of course your calls and text all

2:51
Speaker 2: Angie gilden Water from the Gonnaala Charleston UMaine Association with
2:54
Speaker 2: this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. Good
2:56
Speaker 2: morning and happy Friday.
3:00
Speaker 4: Friday, indeed, and I appreciate you making time for me
3:03
Speaker 4: on this Friday and sounds busy today.
3:05
Speaker 2: Listen to me. Listen to me, girl, you starting to
3:07
Speaker 2: show every Friday. Okay, it all works around you. This
3:12
Speaker 2: slot has been for the not me Please Pet of
3:14
Speaker 2: the Week for the last several years. And I don't
3:16
Speaker 2: care what happens. We do a pet giveaway on Friday
3:21
Speaker 2: or an adoption of Friday at nine oh seven. You
3:24
Speaker 2: can count on it, all right, even.
3:26
Speaker 4: If Coach Kid wants the spot too.
3:30
Speaker 2: And do we really need to go there, Angie with
3:32
Speaker 2: your crush on Coach Kid?
3:35
Speaker 5: Board?
3:36
Speaker 2: All right? So, uh, we have a cat this week.
3:39
Speaker 2: His name is Bubbles. Tell us about Bubbles.
3:43
Speaker 4: So Bubbles is a pretty new resident to our shelter.
3:46
Speaker 4: He came in on Wednesday, and when I walked into
3:49
Speaker 4: our admissions room, I was blown away at how giant.
3:52
Speaker 5: This cat is.
3:54
Speaker 4: He's fifteen pounds and he looks every bit of it
3:57
Speaker 4: in the nicest way possible. He's neutered, He's very sweet.
4:01
Speaker 4: He loved wet food as you can imagine, and he
4:05
Speaker 4: also just loves for you to sit there and pet him.
4:07
Speaker 4: He's currently calling pet coo south Ridge location home. So
4:12
Speaker 4: if you're in the area, definitely stop buy and see
4:14
Speaker 4: for yourself and see if I'm lying to you about
4:16
Speaker 4: how big this cat is. And also stop buy and
4:20
Speaker 4: say hi to him. He's the sweetest little cat ever, neutered, vaccinated,
4:24
Speaker 4: ready to roll when you are.
4:25
Speaker 2: So so he's picked up as a strength, Is that right?
4:28
Speaker 6: Or so?
4:29
Speaker 4: The South Charleston Humane officer had brought him in. His
4:33
Speaker 4: owner had actually brought him to the police department in
4:36
Speaker 4: South Charleston and said that she just could no longer
4:38
Speaker 4: care for things in her life had changed. So did
4:42
Speaker 4: the right thing by you know, taking him somewhere rather
4:45
Speaker 4: than dumping him on the streets. So his circumstances changed.
4:48
Speaker 2: We'll say that, okay, And it happens. It happens so frequently.
4:51
Speaker 2: So again, Bubbles is our pedal the week. Picture posted
4:55
Speaker 2: Dave Allen Radio on Facebook, also the WHS network page
5:00
Speaker 2: and also at Dave a seventy on X and A
5:02
Speaker 2: Bubble seems I could be a fantastic captains but already
5:05
Speaker 2: ready to go. I mean newter vaccinated, and you said
5:07
Speaker 2: seems to be friend. I wonder did the owner, I
5:10
Speaker 2: know you didn't talk to them. I wondered if the
5:11
Speaker 2: owner said how Bubbles would do with other cats or
5:15
Speaker 2: but but you may not know that.
5:17
Speaker 4: I think Bubbles lived with other cats. If what I
5:20
Speaker 4: heard from the South Charleston he made officer was correct,
5:23
Speaker 4: he did live with other cats, so I think he
5:26
Speaker 4: would do fine. Cats are dramatic though, in the first
5:29
Speaker 4: couple of days of meeting. Oh yeah, cats, Oh you know,
5:31
Speaker 4: you got to get past that little rough patch and
5:32
Speaker 4: then they're fine.
5:33
Speaker 2: Well, if you're looking for a great looking cat, he's
5:35
Speaker 2: a big old boy, as you said, I mean he
5:37
Speaker 2: used to maybe go the a Zimpek route. But he's
5:40
Speaker 2: a he's a he's a good sized feller. Bubbles is
5:43
Speaker 2: his name. Picture posted Dave Island Radio on Facebook and
5:46
Speaker 2: at Dave A seventy on x and also the WHS
5:48
Speaker 2: Network Facebook page as well. It's going to be a
5:51
Speaker 2: great weekend, you guys gonna be out and about anywhere.
5:54
Speaker 4: We actually did all our traveling this week. I'm going
5:57
Speaker 4: to places, so so nothing this weekend, but we did
6:01
Speaker 4: have a pretty busy week with.
6:02
Speaker 2: Off side of it, all right, what you have going
6:04
Speaker 2: on this week?
6:06
Speaker 4: So we went to Bridge Valley yesterday talked about volunteer
6:09
Speaker 4: opportunities for those students that are going there and if
6:11
Speaker 4: they need community service hours for their program, because we
6:15
Speaker 4: are once again in desperate need of volunteers. And we
6:19
Speaker 4: are actually at a City National Bank location today with
6:24
Speaker 4: an optible puppies and hopefully kittens if we have any
6:27
Speaker 4: They which location?
6:28
Speaker 2: Which? Which location?
6:29
Speaker 3: Is that?
6:30
Speaker 2: Angie Glasgow? All right? So the City National Glasgow? Okay,
6:34
Speaker 2: make sure that you stop mind seeing there. And of
6:37
Speaker 2: course we're still talking about tuxes and tails. Your big
6:39
Speaker 2: events Saturday night, April twenty fifth, seven o'clock at jq
6:42
Speaker 2: Diickets and Saltworks there in Malden. It's going to be
6:44
Speaker 2: a great night, but you need to get you tickets
6:46
Speaker 2: as soon as possible.
6:49
Speaker 4: Yeah, they are sewing out quickly. Last week when I
6:51
Speaker 4: spoke with our director of development, she said that over
6:54
Speaker 4: half the tickets.
6:55
Speaker 5: Had been sold.
6:56
Speaker 4: So if you want to go, get those tickets now.
6:58
Speaker 2: Yeah, and they're information is available on their Facebook page
7:00
Speaker 2: and also at the website as well. The Dave Alan
7:02
Speaker 2: Show on five any Live has brought you in part
7:04
Speaker 2: by a Husband's Pizza, where this month get a large
7:06
Speaker 2: et ditch Pepperoni pizza and a Pepperoni cow Zone twenty
7:09
Speaker 2: one ninety nine. Find your local husbands for pickup, dining,
7:12
Speaker 2: or delivery at Husbandspizza dot com. I want to talk
7:15
Speaker 2: about real quickly here, Angie, A win for humanity and
7:20
Speaker 2: the animals we all love. We told you last fall
7:22
Speaker 2: that there was an animal cruelty case in Dunbar. The
7:25
Speaker 2: owner from what I understand, the owner was found guilty
7:29
Speaker 2: on four accounts of animal cruelty and neglect. Big props
7:34
Speaker 2: to the Dunbar Police Department and also the prosecutor's office
7:38
Speaker 2: here in Kanawha County. What more can you tell us
7:41
Speaker 2: about that? I know you posted about it on your
7:42
Speaker 2: social media That's where I got it, So what more
7:45
Speaker 2: can you tell us about that?
7:47
Speaker 4: So the case itself is not quite over yet. There's
7:52
Speaker 4: one more hurdle that we have to jump in order
7:54
Speaker 4: for us to you know, can obtain full custody of
7:58
Speaker 4: the dog, free home them and get all that so
8:01
Speaker 4: that I can share. I can also share the fact
8:04
Speaker 4: that the prosecutor for this case was more than what
8:09
Speaker 4: we could have imagined for you know, a defendant of
8:12
Speaker 4: animal welfare that I'll just say that all of our
8:16
Speaker 4: staff that were you know, a part of this case
8:19
Speaker 4: and testified on behalf of these dogs could not talk
8:22
Speaker 4: kindly enough and like just wonderfully enough about how this
8:26
Speaker 4: entire situation was handled and how the outlook is looking
8:30
Speaker 4: as of right now. So a big, big, big win
8:33
Speaker 4: for animal cruelty laws and you know, people being held
8:38
Speaker 4: accountable for you know, violating those laws.
8:40
Speaker 2: What what can you tell us? I know you said
8:42
Speaker 2: it's not completely over, and you just tell me what
8:44
Speaker 2: you're allowed to say. What can you tell us specifically,
8:46
Speaker 2: because it's been a couple months since we talked about,
8:48
Speaker 2: what can you tell us about that case? I'd have
8:50
Speaker 2: done bar.
8:52
Speaker 4: So there were three four Great Danes, very giant Great
8:58
Speaker 4: Danes in this house. They were not given access to
9:02
Speaker 4: fresh food, water, and they were extremely underweight for the
9:06
Speaker 4: breed standard of a Great Dane. We're talking like at
9:10
Speaker 4: least fifty pounds underweight. So that is what I can
9:14
Speaker 4: share thus far, and hopefully once the case is settled,
9:18
Speaker 4: we can get into more of the details. Hopefully next
9:21
Speaker 4: week I'll be coming back with more details and that
9:24
Speaker 4: very happy.
9:24
Speaker 2: Ending for all these thoughts. Awesome, awesome, and again a
9:27
Speaker 2: big shout out to a prosecutor at deb Rusnick and
9:30
Speaker 2: the people of her office and also, as she said,
9:32
Speaker 2: the Dunbar Police Department as well for helping out. We
9:35
Speaker 2: had a text here similar lines. I guess we've been
9:38
Speaker 2: telling you a story of Stubs and somebody wanted to
9:41
Speaker 2: know if we have any updates on the Stubs story.
9:45
Speaker 7: I have not.
9:45
Speaker 4: Personally received any updates on Stubs. I have been reaching
9:49
Speaker 4: out to our manager of the Humane Officers and Cruelty Cases,
9:52
Speaker 4: et cetera for updates on that. There's nothing really that's
9:57
Speaker 4: new developmental for this case specifically, pretty much the update
10:03
Speaker 4: still stands at you know, we have a potential owner
10:06
Speaker 4: of Stubbs that you know, said that someone had stolen
10:09
Speaker 4: him from her and would not give him back. That
10:12
Speaker 4: is about as far as we've gotten with with his
10:15
Speaker 4: case in particular.
10:16
Speaker 2: Okay, and again, this was the dog we've been telling
10:18
Speaker 2: you about, that is we believe was thrown from a car,
10:23
Speaker 2: possibly shot or definitely shot, possibly thrown from a car,
10:27
Speaker 2: and somebody showed up at the shelter with the with
10:31
Speaker 2: with this dog and we we don't know a whole
10:34
Speaker 2: lot what the circumstances were. Your medical crew was able
10:37
Speaker 2: to ascertain that that's pretty much what happened. You were
10:39
Speaker 2: attempting to do surgery and the little guys just his
10:43
Speaker 2: body just couldn't handle it, and you eventually had to
10:45
Speaker 2: put him down. So it's a tragic, tragic case, and
10:47
Speaker 2: hopefully we can get to the bottom of it and
10:50
Speaker 2: maybe have something like what we did in this dunbar
10:53
Speaker 2: case that looks like that's the direction that that that
10:56
Speaker 2: that it's heading, and we can we can get some
10:59
Speaker 2: justice here for Still, what do you need of at
11:02
Speaker 2: the shelter right now, Angie?
11:04
Speaker 4: So we are having cats and kittens trickle in to
11:08
Speaker 4: our shelter very quickly. I just got a message this
11:10
Speaker 4: morning that said there are possibly fifteen cats coming from
11:13
Speaker 4: one place today. So we are in need of cat
11:17
Speaker 4: food here in a catchow wet cat food, any brand,
11:20
Speaker 4: kitty litter, and bleach we've had. You know, the shelter
11:24
Speaker 4: is a pretty dirty place, so bleach helps us keep
11:27
Speaker 4: both animals and people safe with you know, all the
11:31
Speaker 4: germs that are there. So bleach is another big one.
11:33
Speaker 2: All right, excuse me, Angie, I appreciate you being here
11:37
Speaker 2: as always, and we will talk soon. Hopefully we'll have
11:39
Speaker 2: some more updates on those cruelty cases we talked about
11:42
Speaker 2: with them. Maybe we can have that for you next week.
11:44
Speaker 2: Appreciate you being here. Thanks a lot, no problem, have
11:47
Speaker 2: a good one, good as well, Angie. Gillawater, Canal Tross
11:49
Speaker 2: and you main association and again Texas and Tails. Their
11:52
Speaker 2: big event is April to twenty fifth, seven o'clock at
11:54
Speaker 2: JQ Dicketts and Saltworks and Malden. Going to be a
11:56
Speaker 2: fantastic night. But those tickets are already half gone. This
11:59
Speaker 2: is an event that doesn't happen on April twenty fifth, folks,
12:02
Speaker 2: and here we are February twenty seventh, and the tickets
12:04
Speaker 2: are half gone. So if you're gonna get your tickets
12:07
Speaker 2: for this black tie event, make sure you do. It's
12:09
Speaker 2: ther biggest fundraiser that they do of the year. April

12:20
Speaker 2: get them soum as for our adopt me. Please put
12:22
Speaker 2: it the week. It's a cat named Bubbles, two years old, newtered, vaccinated,
12:28
Speaker 2: living up, living his best life right now at the
12:30
Speaker 2: Petco Penhouse, which is out at South Ridge. Was a
12:34
Speaker 2: surrender owner just couldn't take care of him anymore. Angie
12:37
Speaker 2: tells me. He is a very very sweet cat. Loves
12:40
Speaker 2: to be petted. Little bit of a size issue. Okay,
12:44
Speaker 2: not body shaming here, but he's a big old boy,
12:46
Speaker 2: about fifteen pounds or so. I've got his picture post
12:49
Speaker 2: Meadows is laughing at me through the glass in here.
12:52
Speaker 2: You just do get ready for your show and leave

16:12
Speaker 2: Your career starts here. Coming up next Friday, March sixth,
16:16
Speaker 2: there is going to be a luncheon an Embassy suite
16:19
Speaker 2: here in Charleston. The twenty twenty six Women of Achievement Awards,
16:22
Speaker 2: designed to pay tribute to what they call trailblazers, change
16:26
Speaker 2: makers and empowerment role models. Now awards are going to
16:30
Speaker 2: be given out three Women of Achievement Awards, a Woman
16:34
Speaker 2: to Watch Award, and the Empowerment Award being given. The
16:36
Speaker 2: Empowerment Award is to make a willborne and she joins me.
16:39
Speaker 2: This morning the Jeric Construction City is good morning, welcome
16:41
Speaker 2: to the show.
16:42
Speaker 11: Good morning, Thank you for having me, thank you for
16:45
Speaker 11: being here.
16:45
Speaker 2: So congratulations on this award.
16:47
Speaker 11: Thank you.
16:48
Speaker 2: All right, so tell me your story, tell me how
16:51
Speaker 2: you get involved in this whole thing, and we'll break
16:53
Speaker 2: it down from there.
16:53
Speaker 11: Well, I started out as a domestic violence advocate for
16:57
Speaker 11: a Resolve, move up to an outreach specialist which is
17:02
Speaker 11: still for Resolved domestic violence, and now I am their
17:06
Speaker 11: community engagement manager for the YW Okay.
17:10
Speaker 2: Now, I know that obviously it's a job. But you
17:13
Speaker 2: don't go into something or specialize in something like domestic
17:17
Speaker 2: violence as you did, if you don't have a passion
17:20
Speaker 2: for it.
17:21
Speaker 11: No, I definitely have a passion. I'm also a survivor, okay,
17:25
Speaker 11: and so it's something dear to my heart.
17:29
Speaker 2: I don't want to step on the toes here. Do
17:31
Speaker 2: you want to tell some of your story? If you don't,
17:33
Speaker 2: that's perfectly fine.
17:34
Speaker 3: No.
17:34
Speaker 11: No, I like to say I'm from that era or
17:38
Speaker 11: from that age group that we didn't speak about things,
17:42
Speaker 11: We kept it hidden, And so I was a victim
17:48
Speaker 11: at one point and I didn't know how to reach
17:52
Speaker 11: out for help. Eventually I came into some strong women
17:57
Speaker 11: later for a different situation and happen to work for
18:00
Speaker 11: the Why, and I always remembered how they treated me
18:04
Speaker 11: and how they treated my family, and I thought I
18:10
Speaker 11: would like to help too. Who knew that that would
18:13
Speaker 11: come true.
18:15
Speaker 2: It's amazing to me to Mika when you find people
18:19
Speaker 2: that have a passion for public service in whether it's this,
18:23
Speaker 2: I mean, anybody that's in the recovery community will tell
18:26
Speaker 2: you that the best people that do the best things
18:31
Speaker 2: in the recovery community are people that themselves were addicts
18:35
Speaker 2: at one point because they because they know the story
18:38
Speaker 2: and they speak the language. And you being brave enough
18:42
Speaker 2: to tell your story, you know when when these when
18:46
Speaker 2: you were dealing with these with these folks, and I
18:48
Speaker 2: don't I mean, men are victims of domestic violence.
18:50
Speaker 11: Yes they are, Yes they are.
18:52
Speaker 2: That's something people really don't like.
18:53
Speaker 11: To talk grace. They men get left out, but they
18:57
Speaker 11: are victims and we deal with men as well. One
19:00
Speaker 11: of our shelters we do not discriminate. So we taken
19:03
Speaker 11: men just as well as women, Okay.
19:05
Speaker 2: And and my point in saying that is is that
19:08
Speaker 2: sometimes when you reach out for help, you know, people
19:11
Speaker 2: may have they may have a degree, or they may
19:13
Speaker 2: have whatever, and they got skills and they want to help,
19:16
Speaker 2: but you ain't been there.
19:18
Speaker 11: You haven't been there yet, Yeah, because it's very humbling
19:21
Speaker 11: for someone to even reach out for help.
19:23
Speaker 2: And you can put your arm around one of these
19:24
Speaker 2: ladies or men and just say, look, I know because
19:28
Speaker 2: I've been there, and I do.
19:30
Speaker 3: I do.
19:30
Speaker 2: I'm sure you do. Now you're being honored with some
19:33
Speaker 2: other pretty heavy hitters here in Kanau Valley. Nancy Bruns,
19:39
Speaker 2: Susie Salisbaron and Susie very Well and Adrian Worthy will
19:43
Speaker 2: be given the Women of Achievement Awards. Samantha Nigert, who
19:45
Speaker 2: is a frequent guest of this show with our work
19:47
Speaker 2: with part of the West Side Neighborhood Association, They're all
19:50
Speaker 2: going to be awarded alongside you. It's pretty heavy hitters there.
19:55
Speaker 11: Yeah, those are amazing, amazing women.
19:58
Speaker 2: So what do you do on a daily base? I mean,
20:00
Speaker 2: in order to I mean, we talked about the domestic
20:02
Speaker 2: violence but what is it that you do with the organization.
20:05
Speaker 2: What are the other things that you do.
20:07
Speaker 11: I spread awareness, I spread awareness, I go out and
20:12
Speaker 11: do outreach. I try to get donations, volunteers. So I'm
20:18
Speaker 11: just wherever they need me to be, doing whatever they
20:20
Speaker 11: need me to do in the community.
20:23
Speaker 2: And I want to talk about that need for volunteers. Yes,
20:26
Speaker 2: because because when I was talking to you in the
20:28
Speaker 2: green room and I said something about we'll just talking
20:30
Speaker 2: about and you said the word volunteers, and you just
20:32
Speaker 2: lit up, because because you need volunteers. Talk about the
20:36
Speaker 2: neighbor volunteers we do.
20:38
Speaker 11: We need volunteers. We have so many different programs and
20:42
Speaker 11: sometimes people can't give money, and that's okay, but maybe
20:47
Speaker 11: you can give time. Maybe you can come out and
20:51
Speaker 11: you have a skill. You can paint something, or teach
20:55
Speaker 11: our seniors how to crochet, or read a book to
20:58
Speaker 11: our children. We definitely could use volunteers plan a garden.
21:03
Speaker 2: And these are all parts of of of the YWCS.
21:06
Speaker 11: And we have so many different programs. We take care
21:08
Speaker 11: of seniors, our unhoused families, are domestic violence guests. We
21:15
Speaker 11: have court advocacy, We have pasted in present where that's
21:19
Speaker 11: our thrift shop, and we dress our clients as well
21:22
Speaker 11: as let them come in there and shop.
21:26
Speaker 2: Now, where's the where's the gift show?
21:27
Speaker 11: You know on Elizabeth Street? Okay, it's pasted in presents,
21:31
Speaker 11: like right across the street from the Board of Education.
21:33
Speaker 11: We came missing, No exactly where you can? I always
21:35
Speaker 11: call me and I'll walk you to it. We also
21:38
Speaker 11: take donations for that as well.
21:39
Speaker 2: All right, I want to get into that. All right,
21:41
Speaker 2: So people listen to us right now. This is you know,
21:43
Speaker 2: we're finally the winter maybe is getting behind us once
21:46
Speaker 2: we get through Apparently Sunday night into Monday, so people
21:49
Speaker 2: may be doing some spring cleaning and they got some
21:51
Speaker 2: stuff that then we're not We don't want you junk.
21:53
Speaker 2: We don't mean that, but I mean some things that
21:54
Speaker 2: you want to that you want to get rid of
21:57
Speaker 2: and that other people could use. Talk about that.
21:59
Speaker 11: Yeah, So if you want to come out and donate clothing, shoes.
22:05
Speaker 11: Sometimes people forget sometimes when you're on a run or
22:08
Speaker 11: you leave a bad situation. These women and men they
22:12
Speaker 11: leave with nothing. So sometimes in the middle of the
22:15
Speaker 11: night they have nothing but what they have on. So
22:18
Speaker 11: not only do we provide housing for them when they're ready.
22:23
Speaker 11: We try to get their housing filled with items like
22:26
Speaker 11: a coffee maker, a couch, a bed sheets, towels, even
22:31
Speaker 11: hygiene products. So we take everything that you can think of.
22:35
Speaker 11: We also are one of the only pet shelters that
22:38
Speaker 11: have pets. Okay, cool, So we also take donations for
22:42
Speaker 11: that as well.
22:42
Speaker 2: And I've heard a lot of stories, Tamika about that
22:45
Speaker 2: with people. I mean, because I'm an animal person, you know,
22:49
Speaker 2: and there are people that have said, well, I want
22:51
Speaker 2: to get out of the situation, or if it's not
22:53
Speaker 2: domestic violence, I want to try to better my situation.
22:56
Speaker 2: But I got my dog, I got my cat, and
22:58
Speaker 2: I can't. But so you guys are okay with that,
23:00
Speaker 2: or you'll work with them.
23:01
Speaker 11: Yes, now, our domestic violence shelter, we do have a
23:04
Speaker 11: pet shelter there, Okay, So we do have and it
23:08
Speaker 11: was for that situation. Women are men. They're like, I
23:11
Speaker 11: can't leave because I don't have anywhere for my animal
23:14
Speaker 11: to go, and they're allowed to stay there with them.
23:18
Speaker 11: So we also need cat food, dog food. We've had
23:21
Speaker 11: a chicken at one time.
23:22
Speaker 2: A chicken that was someone's pet. I need to hear
23:24
Speaker 2: this story.
23:25
Speaker 11: I don't really, I just know the chicken was there
23:28
Speaker 11: and it was someone's pet, because we don't judge.
23:30
Speaker 2: All right, there you go, Ryan, that's promo material right there.
23:33
Speaker 2: We had a chicken somebody somebody showed up. I'm resisting
23:37
Speaker 2: the bad dad joke type pun about like, you know,
23:41
Speaker 2: was it foul play or something like that. But I'm
23:44
Speaker 2: not going to do that. I'm not going to exactly. Yeah,
23:47
Speaker 2: he's the one I do there. I get paid to
23:49
Speaker 2: talk on the radio, not to tell jokes. All right.
23:52
Speaker 2: So this event's going to be Friday at noon at
23:54
Speaker 2: Embassy Suite in Charleston. Where can people get tickets?
23:57
Speaker 11: You can get tickets on our website. Actually you can
24:00
Speaker 11: call me, but you can go right on our website
24:03
Speaker 11: and get tickets. You can buy tickets up until the
24:05
Speaker 11: day of, up until the fifth Please get a ticket.
24:09
Speaker 2: And this luncheon is always huge, I mean it's always
24:13
Speaker 2: very I mean it's like pretty pretty closed, if not
24:16
Speaker 2: too sold out at Embassy Suites. And Embassy Suites is
24:18
Speaker 2: a big old building.
24:19
Speaker 11: You know, hopefully about six hundred people.
24:23
Speaker 2: And it's all gonna be next Friday.
24:25
Speaker 11: Next Friday at the Embassy starts at noon.
24:27
Speaker 2: Yes, so well, congratulations on your warrior. Its great to
24:30
Speaker 2: get to meet you and talk to you about that.
24:32
Speaker 2: Give me, give me a great place for people to
24:34
Speaker 2: get information, not necessarily just about the event, but also
24:37
Speaker 2: all of the programs that you do through the y
24:39
Speaker 2: w C A website, social media. Give us that so
24:42

24:50
Speaker 2: And spell your last name for.
24:52

25:15
Speaker 2: Well congratulations. As I said, I don't know all of
25:18
Speaker 2: the people that are getting awards next week, but I
25:20
Speaker 2: know a couple of I know Samantha verywell and I
25:21
Speaker 2: know Susie. They're both regulars on the show. So and
25:25
Speaker 2: I'm sure the other two ladies are great as well.
25:27
Speaker 2: So that's all happening next week at MBC Suite and
25:30
Speaker 2: Charleston starts at noon. Tamika Wilbourne, appreciate you being here.
25:33
Speaker 2: Thanks a lot for you. See, it wasn't so bad,

Speaker 2: to take a break when we come back. Rob Reeal
26:03
Speaker 2: from our sister station ninety six one KWS is going
26:06
Speaker 2: to join us. Last Saturday, there was a fire at
26:08
Speaker 2: Logan Elementary School in my native land down in Logan County,
26:13
Speaker 2: and the fire did not destroy the entire school, but
26:15
Speaker 2: it did quite a bit of damage to things that
26:19
Speaker 2: can't easily be replaced. Years and years of mementos and
26:23
Speaker 2: teachers that had been teaching there for decades and they
26:25
Speaker 2: lost things. So the community down there is really really
26:29
Speaker 2: rally trying to help out. And when Rob saw the story,
26:33
Speaker 2: Rob came to me and basically said, Hey, you're from Logan.
26:36
Speaker 2: What can we do here? I said, well, I know
26:39
Speaker 2: some people, So we contacted the folks at Logan Bank
26:41
Speaker 2: of Trust. My good friend, childhood friend, Gary Wilson down there,
26:45
Speaker 2: and so Rob is going to be live down there
26:47
Speaker 2: on our sister station ninety six to one KWS with
26:50
Speaker 2: Union mission in to on Tuesdays. So Rob's going to
26:54
Speaker 2: join us to talk about that when we come back on.
26:55
Speaker 2: So TJ. Meadows will pop in to give us a
26:57
Speaker 2: preview of today's talk line, and Daniel Woods is going
27:00
Speaker 2: to join us. There's some folks upsets about the regional
27:04
Speaker 2: rankings for boys basketball for the Capitol High Cougars, and
27:07
Speaker 2: Daniel has been keeping a close on that. He's going
27:09
Speaker 2: to join us when we come back. So well, a

29:28
Speaker 2: last Saturday morning, there was a devastating fire. As I
29:32
Speaker 2: told you earlier, Logan elementary school school not destroyed, but
29:35
Speaker 2: a lot of smoke, a lot of water damage, books destroyed,
29:39
Speaker 2: gym equipment. One teacher that I know there had posted
29:43
Speaker 2: on social media. I mean she was a teacher at
29:45
Speaker 2: that school for thirty years, and as I mentioned earlier,
29:48
Speaker 2: you could imagine the type things that a teacher will
29:52
Speaker 2: collect being in one, maybe two classrooms in a thirty
29:57
Speaker 2: year career. Many of those things cannot simply cannot be replaced.
30:03
Speaker 2: But we're going to try, at least with some rob
30:05
Speaker 2: real from her sister Station ninety six to one KWS
30:08
Speaker 2: is here now to talk about what we can do
30:09
Speaker 2: to help Rob. Good morning and welcome to the show.
30:11
Speaker 2: Good morning.
30:11
Speaker 7: I'm glad you started with the good news that no
30:13
Speaker 7: one was injured, thank goodness, and the structure is going
30:18
Speaker 7: to be fine. They'll be able to get back into
30:20
Speaker 7: the school, probably not until the start of the next
30:22
Speaker 7: year because well, clean up it is a lot, but
30:28
Speaker 7: virtually everything inside, all the stuff has been it's a
30:32
Speaker 7: complete loss because of fire, smoke and then water damage
30:35
Speaker 7: from putting out the fire or fire suppression systems. So
30:39
Speaker 7: what we learned when we reached out because the cost
30:45
Speaker 7: of doing this business of show, we get to do
30:48
Speaker 7: a lot of cool stuff, but the balance to that
30:51
Speaker 7: is we take care of our friends and neighbors. We
30:54
Speaker 7: give back, We help every opportunity we could. And when
30:56
Speaker 7: we heard about this, we knew that Superstar catcherade out
30:59
Speaker 7: Et six one K had to jump in and do something,
31:02
Speaker 7: and so we wanted to do one of our drop
31:05
Speaker 7: events and we wanted to take it on the road.
31:08
Speaker 7: So we're going to go down to Logan on Tuesday
31:11
Speaker 7: from eight until noon at Logan Bank and Trust. Right
31:15
Speaker 7: there in Fountain Plaza. You can see it from corrid
31:17
Speaker 7: orgy right by the light. If you already live in
31:20
Speaker 7: that part of the world, you're probably stopping there for gas, coffee,
31:24
Speaker 7: maybe a sit down breakfast.
31:26
Speaker 2: There are lots of places. There are lots of shopping
31:27
Speaker 2: places there too. What we learned when we.
31:30
Speaker 7: Reached out is that the efforts to get supplies, so
31:35
Speaker 7: pencils and notebooks and crayons, that's going really well. And
31:41
Speaker 7: we learned that the efforts to get books back in
31:45
Speaker 7: the hands of our young readers, everybody from beginning readers
31:48
Speaker 7: to chapter books, that that's going pretty well. There are
31:51
Speaker 7: a couple of book drives that are underway. The big
31:54
Speaker 7: need we learned about that wasn't being met is for
31:58
Speaker 7: items that fuel play, recess and phizzed classes and indoor
32:04
Speaker 7: educational activities, indoor educational play. So we basically decided, well,
32:11
Speaker 7: that's what we're gonna do. The folks there got us
32:14
Speaker 7: a list together. Thank you to Tiffany and everybody at
32:17
Speaker 7: Logan Elementary. If you go to the ninety six to
32:20
Speaker 7: one KWUS Facebook page, you will see our.
32:23
Speaker 2: Let's get the play back to Logan Elementary.
32:25
Speaker 7: You'll see the big poster of what we're doing and
32:28
Speaker 7: then underneath in the comments a long list of items
32:33
Speaker 7: that are needed, everything from sports balls to sidewalk chalk,
32:37
Speaker 7: building blocks, kinetic sand. They're even little manipulatives like you
32:43
Speaker 7: don't think of mister Potatohead necessarily as being an educational toy,
32:46
Speaker 7: But not only is it, there's basic anatomy to that,
32:50
Speaker 7: but there's also motor skills being taught when kids use
32:54
Speaker 7: those sorts of things. So lots of opportunities on that
32:57
Speaker 7: list for you to donate something. And if you're somebody
33:01
Speaker 7: who is in a hurry, you can't go to one
33:05
Speaker 7: of the dozen stores that are there at Fountain Plaza
33:08
Speaker 7: to pick something up that's on the list cash and
33:10
Speaker 7: check donations because the school can't do that directly. Yeah,
33:14
Speaker 7: our friends from Union Mission, Jason jumped in immediately and said, yes,
33:17
Speaker 7: we can be your third party intercessor we can help
33:20
Speaker 7: make that happen. So even if you just want to
33:23
Speaker 7: you know, you're in a hurry, you're going you were
33:25
Speaker 7: a you were you bank at Logan Bank Addrust and
33:28
Speaker 7: you want to make a withdraw and put it right
33:30
Speaker 7: into the hands of Union Mission. We can take care
33:33
Speaker 7: of that too, But kind of a mini drop your
33:36
Speaker 7: drop your toys. I don't want to use the word toys, yew.
33:40
Speaker 2: Educational stuff, yeah, I mean it is and is such
33:43
Speaker 2: an important part of kids' education, especially at that age.
33:47
Speaker 2: And I remember, you know, we were we had a
33:49
Speaker 2: call the other day with the with the Tiffany Mayo
33:51
Speaker 2: Thompson who's one of the teachers there. She's a teacher
33:53
Speaker 2: I alluded to that had been there uh for you know,
33:56
Speaker 2: thirty years. Uh And they said, you know, the community
33:59
Speaker 2: has reached out, not only in in in Logan, but
34:02
Speaker 2: I'm talking about Charleston Hunt, everybody around the states. This
34:05
Speaker 2: is what West Virginias do. When they saw the story,
34:07
Speaker 2: they read about, they heard it on the air, they
34:09
Speaker 2: reached out. They said, we want to help. They wanted
34:11
Speaker 2: to do cash, you want to do checks, what ben
34:14
Speaker 2: Mo whatever. Well, they can't really do that being a
34:19
Speaker 2: being a school and then the school system is not
34:22
Speaker 2: you know, permitted to do that. And we don't want
34:25
Speaker 2: to take the cash, okay. So that's why we team
34:27
Speaker 2: with Union Mission and they'll be on site. Jason and
34:30
Speaker 2: the crew will be actually on site at Logan, Bank
34:32
Speaker 2: of Trust, Fountain Play Small and if you're good from
34:36
Speaker 2: that area, everage you said, everybody knows where it is,
34:38
Speaker 2: but if you're not, if you're going down the corridor
34:40
Speaker 2: past South Ridge, whatever, and you're heading into Logan Fountain,
34:43
Speaker 2: play Small is over to the left. The Logan Bank
34:45
Speaker 2: of Trust is at the entrance. There's a McDonald's there, Walmart,
34:49
Speaker 2: Bob Evans.
34:50
Speaker 7: Sparthon Gas, Tarathon Gas, there's a Bils this dollar tree.
34:54
Speaker 2: Uh, it's all. It's all right there in one location.
34:57
Speaker 2: And big props to Gary Wilson and folks at Logan
35:00
Speaker 2: Bank and Trust because I've known literally Gary since he
35:03
Speaker 2: was a kid my grandparents. That's why I love West Virginia.
35:07
Speaker 2: And this is a Logan story, but it could happen
35:10
Speaker 2: wherever you are. Gary's Gary grew up beside my grandparents,
35:14
Speaker 2: and so i'm literally him a couple of years older
35:16
Speaker 2: than he is, but I'm little. And I called Gary yesterday.
35:19
Speaker 2: Who is the I think the title is like Chief
35:21
Speaker 2: Financial Officer of idea.
35:22
Speaker 7: I think he said VP and Chief Operating Officer something
35:25
Speaker 7: like something fancy something, some title you and I will
35:27
Speaker 7: never have.
35:28
Speaker 3: Uh.
35:29
Speaker 13: And it wasn't.
35:30
Speaker 2: Call Gary and I just said hey, and he goes absolutely,
35:32
Speaker 2: come down.
35:33
Speaker 7: Well and talk about a butt for the grace of
35:35
Speaker 7: God situation and West Virginians are very good with this.
35:38
Speaker 7: When I was talking with the recovering missus real as
35:41
Speaker 7: I like to politely call my ex wife, she is
35:44
Speaker 7: a teacher of thirty years and she was just rocked
35:47
Speaker 7: back on the idea of everything that was in her
35:50
Speaker 7: room could be wiped out.
35:52
Speaker 2: And you know, they're they're they're.
35:55
Speaker 7: Always negative people who want to who want to natter
35:58
Speaker 7: about the idea of well, you know, where is this
36:00
Speaker 7: going and mouth feastings, and you know, every accusation is
36:04
Speaker 7: really a confession of what they would do.
36:05
Speaker 2: So the idea to have a.
36:07
Speaker 7: Partner with integrity like Gary from Logan Bank and Trust,
36:11
Speaker 7: to step up and say yes, absolutely, come down here,
36:13
Speaker 7: we would love to be a part of this is
36:16
Speaker 7: just a great example Jason saying what what can we do?
36:18
Speaker 5: What do you need?
36:19
Speaker 7: Do I need to bring the truck? Do I need
36:21
Speaker 7: to bring the tent? So many people have already stepped
36:24
Speaker 7: up to help us, help our friends and.
36:26
Speaker 2: Neighbors and what And I'll just kind of give you
36:28
Speaker 2: the lay of the land. What if you're familiar with
36:31
Speaker 2: that area on Middleburg Island in Logan, you have Logan
36:34
Speaker 2: High School, you have Logan Middle School, and you have
36:36
Speaker 2: Logan Elementary School. Logan Elementary School is the largest elementary
36:39
Speaker 2: school in the county. What they are going to do
36:42
Speaker 2: is they have some room available at Logan Middle School,
36:45
Speaker 2: and so they're going to those kids more than likely.
36:47
Speaker 2: And I know the news team did an interview with
36:50
Speaker 2: the communications director of Logan County Schools. They said, they're
36:53
Speaker 2: probably those kids are not going to get back in
36:54
Speaker 2: that school this year. I mean we're already in almost
36:57
Speaker 2: to March, and so they're going to transition those kids
37:00
Speaker 2: into some empty spaces at Logan Middle School. That'll give
37:03
Speaker 2: them the rest of this year and the summer to
37:05
Speaker 2: hopefully get the school ready for next year.
37:07
Speaker 11: It was a.
37:09
Speaker 2: It was a devastating fire from damage and those folks
37:12
Speaker 2: that have been around fire, no it's not Sometimes it's
37:14
Speaker 2: not about the fire. It's about the water and the
37:16
Speaker 2: smoke and everything that goes with it.
37:17
Speaker 7: So Jay Red will probably burst through and get mad
37:20
Speaker 7: at me for telling the story, but it relates my
37:23
Speaker 7: office area upstairs, my less nessman office needed to have
37:28
Speaker 7: some recovery work done, some mitigation done. Now there was
37:31
Speaker 7: no fire, there was no emergency and it's a very small.
37:35
Speaker 2: Point to the Mexican restaurant.
37:37
Speaker 7: Again, didn't he Yes, that Eric and I upstairs in
37:40
Speaker 7: our area had to be done. It took I'm not exaggerating.
37:45
Speaker 7: It took more than two months for that work in
37:47
Speaker 7: that small space to get done. I'm not beaten up
37:50
Speaker 7: on anybody.
37:50
Speaker 2: Sure, I'm telling you that.
37:51
Speaker 7: I'm telling you that so that I can tell you
37:53
Speaker 7: for a small office space that holds two people, it
37:57
Speaker 7: took that long. Now we need to mitigate an entire
38:00
Speaker 7: elementary school. It's gonna be a minute before they get
38:03
Speaker 7: into school, is I mean?
38:04
Speaker 2: I'm gonna guess that school was probably built in the
38:08
Speaker 2: nineteen fifties, nineteen sixty. Virtually every school I see in
38:11
Speaker 2: West Virginia, and it's a product a lot of the
38:12
Speaker 2: fifties and they all look the same. You know, Say
38:16
Speaker 2: what you will.
38:17
Speaker 7: That fifties institutional architecture was incredibly efficient. They could put
38:22
Speaker 7: up a lot of schools fast.
38:24
Speaker 1: Yeah.
38:24
Speaker 2: And that's again, and big shout out to Gary and
38:27
Speaker 2: the folks at Love and Bank of Troust and also
38:29
Speaker 2: our good buddy Jason Quintrel from Union Mission, because they
38:32
Speaker 2: they stepped up in a big shout out to you
38:34
Speaker 2: because you reached out to me, and you know, and
38:37
Speaker 2: we got a lot of listeners down in that area.
38:40
Speaker 2: And I got to bring flowers for one more person though.
38:43
Speaker 11: Yeah.
38:43
Speaker 7: Absolutely, and that's Shockley from ninety eight seven The Mountain,
38:47
Speaker 7: Because if not for Shockley, I would not have I
38:50
Speaker 7: would not have seen the post. I mean I may
38:53
Speaker 7: have seen it eventually, but he's the one who got
38:55
Speaker 7: the info to me, and he's like, you're the guy
38:56
Speaker 7: for this, what can we do?
38:58
Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, indeed. And so you're going to be taking
39:01
Speaker 2: your morning show up real early. You'll start here in Charleston,
39:03
Speaker 2: but you're going to kind of transition to Logan starting
39:05
Speaker 2: at eight eight eight until noon next till day yep,
39:09
Speaker 2: and you'll be there and Union Mission will be there.
39:11
Speaker 2: I think what they're doing at Logan Elementary School is there.
39:15
Speaker 2: As I said, they're transitioning to students and staff over
39:17
Speaker 2: to Logan Middle School. But that's not going to happen
39:19
Speaker 2: for like for a couple of days because they kind
39:21
Speaker 2: of got to get them there. They got to have
39:22
Speaker 2: an origent. I mean, you know, you take little kids,
39:25
Speaker 2: you know, kindergarten, first graders and you're now you're going
39:28
Speaker 2: to throw them into a middle school. It can be
39:29
Speaker 2: a little bit intimidating, so and they're not going to
39:32
Speaker 2: be like with with all the other kids. But still
39:34
Speaker 2: it's a pretty much bigger school than what they're used to,
39:36
Speaker 2: so there's going to be a little learning there.
39:38
Speaker 7: Kids are very resilient. In twenty years they will be
39:41
Speaker 7: telling this as a great story. But the logistics alone
39:44
Speaker 7: in get it, in picking up what is in elementary
39:47
Speaker 7: school and integrating it into a middle school and try
39:50
Speaker 7: to make it as seamless as possible for all the
39:53
Speaker 7: students of both schools.
39:54
Speaker 2: It's a herculean effort. Okay, so people are listening to
39:57
Speaker 2: us right now. They can't go down there, you know,
39:59
Speaker 2: their work and whatever. Are we going to try to
40:01
Speaker 2: get something? So people here could help as well.
40:03
Speaker 7: If you want to see Penelope at the front desk,
40:06
Speaker 7: I have already warned her that's what we call Tracy
40:08
Speaker 7: for fun, our gatekeeper and director of first impressions and such.
40:13
Speaker 7: If you swing by the radio station in the next
40:15
Speaker 7: few days, if you can't make it down to us
40:17
Speaker 7: on Tuesday. She has happily agreed because she loves helping
40:22
Speaker 7: as much as everybody else to take in those items
40:25
Speaker 7: and make sure we get them to logan elementary. If
40:30
Speaker 7: you want to do financial between now and then, I
40:34
Speaker 7: recommend going straight to Union Mission we feed people dot
40:38
Speaker 7: com because they have all the mechanisms in place for
40:41
Speaker 7: that and they will be drawing on their emergency fund.
40:45
Speaker 7: This is what Jason tells me to fill in the
40:48
Speaker 7: blanks with. Once we have all the things that we
40:52
Speaker 7: get donated, then they'll be able to take the financial
40:54
Speaker 7: contributions and.
40:55
Speaker 2: Fill in the rest of the blanks. All right. And
40:57
Speaker 2: again we have a list of the items that they're
41:00
Speaker 2: looking for on the Superstar Country KWS Facebook page, so
41:03
Speaker 2: you can go on there and you take a look
41:05
Speaker 2: at it. And again we'll probably probably have you on
41:07
Speaker 2: the show Tuesday while you're there, so say hello to
41:10
Speaker 2: my people.
41:12
Speaker 7: I will do it, and I can already count the
41:16
Speaker 7: number of people. Well, I won't be able to count
41:17
Speaker 7: the number of people who will come and say good
41:20

44:45
Speaker 2: Sports and News team is here. Good morning, sir, Good morning.
44:48
Speaker 2: All right, So the regionals Fred and I talked about
44:51
Speaker 2: the Metro News Midday a couple of days ago. The
44:53
Speaker 2: region regional pairings were announced. Some folks associated from fans
44:58
Speaker 2: staff whatever a Capit High School not happy? What's the story?
45:02
Speaker 5: They're not?
45:02
Speaker 12: So.
45:03
Speaker 13: Capital is in Class Triple A Region three, which, if
45:07
Speaker 13: you're not familiar with how high school sports are broken
45:10
Speaker 13: down in West Virginia, you've got four classes, You've got
45:12
Speaker 13: regions within the classes, and that's how you handle your playoffs.
45:15
Speaker 13: You have your region tournament. The top two teams from
45:17
Speaker 13: your region tournament go to the state tournament. Capital is
45:20
Speaker 13: in Class Triple A Region three. There are eight teams
45:23
Speaker 13: in that group and for the postseason, the coaches rank
45:27
Speaker 13: every team but their own one through seven, and then
45:30
Speaker 13: the seeding is based off of that Capital who has
45:33
Speaker 13: spent most of the season ranked number one of the
45:35
Speaker 13: Metro Who's Powerpool. I have a sneaking suspicion that's going
45:38
Speaker 13: to be different today because they lost to Chapmanville earlier
45:40
Speaker 13: this week. But Capitol has been the number one team
45:42
Speaker 13: in the state, at least according to Metro and is
45:44
Speaker 13: most of the year. They're the sixth seed in their
45:47
Speaker 13: own region. So what has happened is Ronnie Olsen, who's
45:52
Speaker 13: the head coach at Shady Spring, said a couple of
45:55
Speaker 13: weeks ago that he was sure how things were going
46:01
Speaker 13: to go for Capital when it comes to their seating
46:04
Speaker 13: because their regular season schedule doesn't include any of their
46:07
Speaker 13: regional opponents. Now, there's no rules from the SSAC that
46:10
Speaker 13: require you to play your regional opponents, but Capital hasn't
46:14
Speaker 13: played anybody within their regent and Ronnie Olsen said, well,
46:18
Speaker 13: how are we going to rate him against the other
46:20
Speaker 13: teams in the region. Now you can take that comment
46:24
Speaker 13: at phase value, or you could look into it a
46:26
Speaker 13: little bit more. But four of the other seven coaches,
46:29
Speaker 13: including Shady s brings Ronnie Olsen, rated Capital seventh of
46:33
Speaker 13: seven in the region. We're talking about the number one
46:35
Speaker 13: team in the state for most of the year, and
46:38
Speaker 13: because four of the other coaches rated them seventh, the
46:41
Speaker 13: other three rated them first.
46:44
Speaker 2: They end up with the sixth seed in the region tournament.
46:47
Speaker 2: It's it's the optics. I mean, I'm not jumping in
46:52
Speaker 2: and I'm not. I mean, I think you have some audio.
46:55
Speaker 12: Were we do.
46:56
Speaker 13: John Anderson, the president at Capitol High was on the
46:59
Speaker 13: sports line lie last night, and I hate it hold back,
47:03
Speaker 13: that's for sure.
47:04
Speaker 5: I'm going to call it like I see it. It's
47:06
Speaker 5: collusion Greenbrier, East Princeton, Fight View and Shady Spring. Now
47:13
Speaker 5: there was talk coach Olsen, I believe, with Shady Spring
47:16
Speaker 5: about how this was going to happen. The SSAC advised
47:20
Speaker 5: those people to be professional and vote in the way
47:22
Speaker 5: that they felt the team should be ranked, but they
47:24
Speaker 5: didn't do so.
47:26
Speaker 8: So there you go.
47:27
Speaker 13: That's the principal of Capitol High School. Capital is eighteen
47:29
Speaker 13: and four at this point, and there's really no reason
47:35
Speaker 13: that you shouldn't be looking at that as one of
47:38
Speaker 13: not only the best teams in that region, but one
47:40
Speaker 13: of the best teams in the state of West Virginia.
47:42
Speaker 13: But now there is this controversy because those four schools,
47:47
Speaker 13: as mentioned, Shady Spring, Greenbriar, East, Pike View, and Princeton
47:53
Speaker 13: voted them seventh of seven in that region, so they
47:56
Speaker 13: drop all the way to the sixth seed, and now
47:59
Speaker 13: we'll go on the road to Greenbrier East in the
48:01
Speaker 13: first round.
48:01
Speaker 2: All right, So what I mean, is there any recourse
48:05
Speaker 2: that Capitol has in this or other than just go
48:07
Speaker 2: like Jeff and I were talking about earlier, just go win.
48:10
Speaker 13: Yeah, I means to the point as it stands today,
48:14
Speaker 13: there is nothing that can be done. If you're up
48:17
Speaker 13: by forty make it forty five. You said it, not me,
48:21
Speaker 13: I don't care. Yeah, but that's really all they can
48:24
Speaker 13: do is go win the games. And I have a
48:28
Speaker 13: feeling that that's gonna be the mindset at Capital. That
48:30
Speaker 13: is a program that typically when you give Capital bulletin
48:35
Speaker 13: board material, things don't go well for you. And I
48:38
Speaker 13: don't necessarily think that that is going to change in
48:42
Speaker 13: this circumstance, because this is a team that was rated
48:45
Speaker 13: number one in the in the state for as long
48:47
Speaker 13: as they were for a good reason. This is a
48:49
Speaker 13: very good basketball team, and even playing on the road,
48:52
Speaker 13: they're going to have a puncher's chance and in a
48:55
Speaker 13: lot of ways be favored really no matter who they play.
48:59
Speaker 6: DJ Meadows who a weigh in on this. What does
49:01
Speaker 6: this say about those coaches? Those coaches are hired to
49:06
Speaker 6: mold young men.
49:08
Speaker 2: What does this say?
49:09
Speaker 6: What does this teach those young men? Teaches them how
49:14
Speaker 6: to be Caddy, teaches them that this is how you
49:18
Speaker 6: deal with your problems rather than taking the high road,
49:21
Speaker 6: the honest road entirely. Well, just completely.
49:25
Speaker 2: What about the argument, though, Daniel, what about the argument
49:27
Speaker 2: that has been made from the other coaches saying that,
49:30
Speaker 2: look they didn't I mean, you have you have a schedule,
49:33
Speaker 2: you got a follow but they played outside the region.
49:35
Speaker 2: What to that argument?
49:36
Speaker 13: Well, what I would say is, and this is something
49:39
Speaker 13: that was brought up last night by John Anderson as well.
49:42
Speaker 13: Capital was just moved down from Class Quade this year,
49:46
Speaker 13: and these schedules are made one, two, sometimes three years
49:49
Speaker 13: in advance, and he said, our schedule was mostly set
49:52
Speaker 13: coming into this year because they're members of the Mountain
49:55
Speaker 13: State Athletic Conference. They have eleven conference games locked in
50:00
Speaker 13: every year, no matter what, that's half your regular season schedule.
50:03
Speaker 13: They went and played three games on a road trip
50:05
Speaker 13: in Ohio. They've played some teams in bigger classes, and frankly,
50:09
Speaker 13: I don't blame them, because with the way the regional
50:11
Speaker 13: structure works in West Virginia, sometimes you end up with
50:15
Speaker 13: quote unquote regions that are pretty broad. Ye, you're talking
50:18
Speaker 13: about a Capital team that, yes, Herbert Hoover and Ripley
50:22
Speaker 13: are in their region, and by all means, Capitol should
50:24
Speaker 13: probably be playing Herbert Hoover and Ripley if they're in
50:27
Speaker 13: their region. But if I'm Cookie Miller, who's the head
50:30
Speaker 13: coach at Capitol, why would I drive ninety minutes to
50:35
Speaker 13: two hours to Princeton with a bunch of high school
50:37
Speaker 13: boys on a Wednesday night when I can go play
50:39
Speaker 13: Hurricane or when I can go play Huntington.
50:42
Speaker 2: That's the thing.
50:43
Speaker 13: The SSAC does not require teams to play regional opponents
50:48
Speaker 13: to be able to play in the postseason. So Capital
50:51
Speaker 13: hasn't broken any rules, but they're still being penalized for it.
50:54
Speaker 6: Daniel, can I ask a question, just for the data,
50:57
Speaker 6: where did Capital fall in the Metro Newspower Index versus
50:59
Speaker 6: these the teams.
51:01
Speaker 2: Compared to the others.
51:02
Speaker 13: I don't know off hand, Capital, for I would say
51:05
Speaker 13: three quarters of the season has been number one in
51:07
Speaker 13: that poll.
51:07
Speaker 2: I rest my case. Thank you, teach Metals. Daniel Woods.
51:11
