- 0:00Speaker 1: All right.
- 0:00Speaker 2: Welcome back. This is our complete matchup guide for Georgia
- 0:03Speaker 2: and Alabama. We are presented by prize picks. This is
- 0:06Speaker 2: the college football addiction, TJ Pittenger, Graham coffee of dog
- 0:09Speaker 2: central and Graham. We are back here again. The, uh, the,
- 0:13Speaker 2: the rivalry that never seems to get old. Uh, the
- 0:16Speaker 2: Southeast takes a, takes a break and pauses to watch
- 0:19Speaker 2: Georgia and Alabama. Once again, well, it was in Athens
- 0:23Speaker 2: last year, so I'll maybe rephrase that. But no shock,
- 0:27Speaker 2: we're going back to Tuscaloosa. We're Kirby Smart's second home
- 0:31Speaker 2: at this point.
- 0:33Speaker 1: First home, too.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Yeah, get after it. Let's talk about this game. I
- 0:40Speaker 2: think it is really, really interesting because I think there
- 0:44Speaker 2: are tests that Alabama and Georgia have both had but
- 0:48Speaker 2: neither one of them has had a test quite like this.
- 0:50Speaker 2: When you look at the other side, uh, Georgia has
- 0:52Speaker 2: certainly seen a better, a really good defense. Uh, Alabama
- 0:56Speaker 2: saw an offense in, in Florida state that, that found
- 0:59Speaker 2: some life. So we have seen some different tests, but
- 1:01Speaker 2: what we'll get Saturday, if it is played, uh, we'll,
- 1:04Speaker 2: we'll be a ton of fun and I'd love to
- 1:06Speaker 2: know some thoughts on, uh, on how you think this
- 1:08Speaker 2: thing goes.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, uh, To echo you, welcome back, my friends,
- 1:14Speaker 1: to the show that never ends. It's Georgia and Alabama
- 1:17Speaker 1: for the third time in 12 months. Really? This game
- 1:22Speaker 1: was played on the last week of September, the first
- 1:25Speaker 1: time last year. These teams know each other well, but
- 1:29Speaker 1: certainly Georgia looks a lot more familiar to how they
- 1:33Speaker 1: looked last season than Alabama does. I do think that
- 1:37Speaker 1: favors Alabama a little bit just when it comes to
- 1:40Speaker 1: personnel familiarity and what worked and what didn't work in
- 1:43Speaker 1: those last two matchups. I think this is a really
- 1:46Speaker 1: interesting spot from a Georgia perspective. Obviously I cover Georgia. So,
- 1:51Speaker 1: you know, people are, Bama fans might think I'm a
- 1:55Speaker 1: hater or anything like that. I'm not trying to be,
- 1:58Speaker 1: but I just think from UGA's spot, they have not
- 2:03Speaker 1: been an underdog in a game since the 2024 Texas
- 2:08Speaker 1: game that they played on the road in Austin when
- 2:10Speaker 1: Texas was number one. And then they've not been an
- 2:12Speaker 1: underdog against Bamba since the 2022 national championship game in Indy.
- 2:17Speaker 1: So I just look at it. It's a nice spot
- 2:20Speaker 1: for UGA. They're number one in SP plus right now.
- 2:23Speaker 1: They're number one in FEI, the advanced metrics and power
- 2:28Speaker 1: ratings from a Vegas standpoint, not like resume metrics, but
- 2:33Speaker 1: just success rate explosiveness. Some of those five factors that
- 2:36Speaker 1: we look at on how football games get won and
- 2:39Speaker 1: lost Georgia, Georgia, is the best team in the country
- 2:42Speaker 1: in the eyes of those metrics right now. And they
- 2:45Speaker 1: get to be an underdog to a team that they
- 2:47Speaker 1: held a negative three rushing yards last December. I think
- 2:50Speaker 1: there's probably a disrespect card that you can play there
- 2:52Speaker 1: a little bit. If you're Kirby smart and all of
- 2:55Speaker 1: the hype in this matchup is around Keelan Russell deservedly.
- 2:59Speaker 1: So that kid's phenomenal. I love watching him play football,
- 3:03Speaker 1: like getting to do the preview content for this game
- 3:06Speaker 1: for our website has been a joy. Just watching the
- 3:09Speaker 1: Bama offensive tape and, seeing some of the throws he makes,
- 3:12Speaker 1: you're not going to defend them. There's, there's not a
- 3:17Speaker 1: good offense is always going to be good defense. And
- 3:19Speaker 1: you see him make some throws where you're just like, yeah,
- 3:21Speaker 1: you're something you can do about that. But sorry, dogs.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Is that a human? Is that an actual dog?
- 3:28Speaker 1: That is a dog. That's okay. Yeah.
- 3:31Speaker 2: I didn't know if the dogs were already barking for
- 3:33Speaker 2: this matchup.
- 3:33Speaker 1: That's that's, that's Luna, the dog Luna. Can you please,
- 3:38Speaker 1: please settle down. But, I will say, Georgia is undefeated
- 3:43Speaker 1: in the history of Graham Coffee Productions whenever a dog
- 3:47Speaker 1: barks during a preview show. But this team, from a
- 3:54Speaker 1: Georgia standpoint, I think Gunnar Stockton is probably getting a
- 3:59Speaker 1: little bit overlooked in this matchup because of the excitement
- 4:02Speaker 1: around Keelan Russell. Again, deservedly so for Keelan, but Stockton
- 4:07Speaker 1: has been really, really good. 13 touchdowns, one interceptions. Those
- 4:12Speaker 1: 13 touchdowns have gone to 12 different players. Georgia's been
- 4:15Speaker 1: extremely balanced in terms of how they've distributed targets. There's
- 4:18Speaker 1: not like a Zachariah branch in this offense that you
- 4:21Speaker 1: can say, if we can limit this or take it away,
- 4:24Speaker 1: we got a good chance of shutting them down. And
- 4:26Speaker 1: they look likely to get Nate Frazier back in some
- 4:30Speaker 1: capacity for this game, which will help their running game.
- 4:32Speaker 1: So I think the story of this football game, We're
- 4:37Speaker 1: all talking about the Alabama offense, and deservedly so, but
- 4:40Speaker 1: I think Georgia's got a really good offense, too. These
- 4:43Speaker 1: are going to be two pretty elite offenses on the
- 4:46Speaker 1: field on Saturday night, in my opinion, so who can
- 4:48Speaker 1: get stops? Who can force a turnover, and who can
- 4:52Speaker 1: get a stop here or there? I can see this
- 4:54Speaker 1: game turning into a shootout by Georgia-Alabama standards.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Yeah, so that's my maybe follow-up there is I have
- 5:03Speaker 2: a lot of faith in these offenses. I think I
- 5:06Speaker 2: have more faith in Georgia's defense, but the offenses they
- 5:11Speaker 2: faced are Arkansas and Vandy and Oklahoma. So I don't
- 5:16Speaker 2: mean to discredit Georgia at all. They're certainly seeing a
- 5:20Speaker 2: very different offense than they've seen all year when you
- 5:24Speaker 2: think about what Bama's going to throw out there on
- 5:26Speaker 2: the field. Same thing from the other side. I think
- 5:29Speaker 2: about The defense that Alabama has played has not been
- 5:34Speaker 2: as impressive. I don't think anybody had Ashton Daniels going
- 5:37Speaker 2: in there and throwing for 377 yards and Florida State
- 5:41Speaker 2: putting up 36 points. And they've been better, right? But
- 5:46Speaker 2: I wonder when they see an offense that's better than,
- 5:51Speaker 2: you know, South Carolina and Florida State and Kentucky, what...
- 5:55Speaker 2: And Mississippi State did a good job against Mississippi State.
- 5:57Speaker 2: I will say that. They, you know, fluff went out
- 5:59Speaker 2: and they... they did a good job there, but they're
- 6:02Speaker 2: going to see an offense that I think is better
- 6:04Speaker 2: than they've seen. So what does that end up looking like?
- 6:08Speaker 2: What are they able to do? And again, that's kind
- 6:11Speaker 2: of goes back to my, my first point of this
- 6:14Speaker 2: is going to be a different test for both of
- 6:16Speaker 2: these teams that neither one of them have seen just yet.
- 6:20Speaker 2: And I think we learn a ton in this matchup
- 6:24Speaker 2: because I don't know how much you can take away from,
- 6:28Speaker 2: I don't know how much you can take away from
- 6:29Speaker 2: Georgia's defense against its opponents. I don't know how much
- 6:31Speaker 2: you can take away. The concerns I have for Bama's
- 6:34Speaker 2: defense are real, and they're about to face a better
- 6:37Speaker 2: offense than they've seen all year. So I don't know.
- 6:40Speaker 2: I don't know where you lean on that.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I think that Georgia defensively, we've kind of saw them
- 6:49Speaker 1: bring some exotic stuff out of the bag of tricks
- 6:53Speaker 1: in the first quarter and a half of that Oklahoma game,
- 6:56Speaker 1: and then they got up by three touchdowns and they've
- 6:59Speaker 1: been pretty vanilla. They were very vanilla last week against Vanderbilt.
- 7:03Speaker 1: I think, you know, not that Alabama has had to
- 7:07Speaker 1: be stressed too much. I mean, the Florida State game
- 7:10Speaker 1: was interesting in that FSU was able to do some
- 7:13Speaker 1: things to them. I think Georgia's got the better defense
- 7:16Speaker 1: in this game, but that doesn't mean they match up
- 7:18Speaker 1: better necessarily, right? Like, I think that Alabama's defense has
- 7:24Speaker 1: some really good athletes. Xavier Griffin, can do a lot
- 7:28Speaker 1: from that linebacker position to limit some of the things
- 7:31Speaker 1: that Georgia has been able to do with the running
- 7:33Speaker 1: backs in the passing game. Uh, I thought coming into
- 7:36Speaker 1: the season, like across the board, Bama probably has the
- 7:40Speaker 1: best secondary in the league. Uh, they've been a little
- 7:44Speaker 1: bit shakier than I expected them to be at times,
- 7:46Speaker 1: but that's still a really good unit with a lot
- 7:49Speaker 1: of good players in the backend and a lot of
- 7:51Speaker 1: experience in games like this. So I think that, uh,
- 7:56Speaker 1: can Georgia run the football is really like the million
- 7:59Speaker 1: dollar question a little bit in this game. I know
- 8:02Speaker 1: that Alabama will run the football better than they did
- 8:04Speaker 1: in the last matchup between these two teams. Like they've
- 8:07Speaker 1: revamped that offensive line. I think their running back room
- 8:09Speaker 1: is obviously healthier, but also just better than it was
- 8:13Speaker 1: a year ago. But Georgia's run defense is something that I,
- 8:18Speaker 1: I kind of just trust maybe more than anything in
- 8:21Speaker 1: this game. I trust Georgia's run defense. Uh, They were
- 8:24Speaker 1: fourth nationally in run defense last year. They lost C.J.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Allen and replaced him with– I mean, they're too deep.
- 8:32Speaker 1: That inside linebacker is four former five-stars that all play
- 8:35Speaker 1: like former five-stars. And then up front, they returned seven
- 8:40Speaker 1: of the top nine defensive linemen off of the fourth-ranked
- 8:45Speaker 1: rushing defense in college football last year. So, like, I
- 8:48Speaker 1: think that they're pretty good. in that capacity. It doesn't
- 8:51Speaker 1: mean that Alabama can't run the ball effectively enough to
- 8:54Speaker 1: keep them honest, but I think that would be the
- 8:57Speaker 1: pressure point, the thing that you're maybe scared of a
- 9:00Speaker 1: little bit if you're an Alabama fan, is does Georgia
- 9:05Speaker 1: have a shot to make you one-dimensional and get you
- 9:08Speaker 1: into a lot of third and longs? Because Georgia so
- 9:11Speaker 1: far this season They haven't faced an offense anything like
- 9:14Speaker 1: this Alabama offense, but they have been a team that
- 9:18Speaker 1: I would kind of characterize defensively as they've given up
- 9:22Speaker 1: some explosives at times, but not really as many of
- 9:26Speaker 1: those back-breaking touchdown-level explosives. But they've been really hard to
- 9:30Speaker 1: just sustain drives against. And they're fifth nationally in average
- 9:34Speaker 1: third down distance. Their average third down distance faced as
- 9:38Speaker 1: a defense is 8.79 yards so far this year in
- 9:41Speaker 1: Alabama's offense. is 70th in average third down distance at
- 9:45Speaker 1: a little over seven yards on average on third. So
- 9:49Speaker 1: there is something there potentially where you're asking Keylon to
- 9:56Speaker 1: do a high wire act. And we saw him do
- 9:58Speaker 1: some of these high wire acts against Mississippi State last week.
- 10:01Speaker 1: I think I saw him convert like a third and
- 10:02Speaker 1: 19 with a absolute seed of a ball on a
- 10:06Speaker 1: deep crossing route. So he's capable of bailing them out
- 10:09Speaker 1: of those situations. But I don't think against Kirby Smart
- 10:14Speaker 1: and Glenn Schumann with some of the athletes that Georgia
- 10:16Speaker 1: has on defense, like you ever want to find yourself
- 10:19Speaker 1: teetering into the world of being one-dimensional. Bama has got
- 10:23Speaker 1: to be able to run the football well enough to
- 10:26Speaker 1: keep Georgia honest defensively in this game. Because if Georgia
- 10:30Speaker 1: is not biting down on play action and they're able
- 10:35Speaker 1: to pin their ears back, I think that that is
- 10:38Speaker 1: how you put too much pressure on this really, really
- 10:43Speaker 1: talented young court.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Typically stay on the analytic side of this thing, but
- 10:49Speaker 2: as of now, 65 to 90% chance of steady heavy
- 10:52Speaker 2: rainfall with potential flash flooding, sustained winds of 15 to
- 10:57Speaker 2: 21 miles an hour and a 30 to 40 mile
- 10:59Speaker 2: an hour gusts. I'm not asking you to be a
- 11:02Speaker 2: weatherman on this because I actually like that. You're correct
- 11:05Speaker 2: on a lot of your takes. Um, so I won't
- 11:07Speaker 2: put you in the position of being wrong, uh, like
- 11:09Speaker 2: the guy on my local channel, but yeah, they're not
- 11:13Speaker 2: going to play this thing in a tropical storm. Are
- 11:15Speaker 2: they like, if the forecast stays the same, what are
- 11:17Speaker 2: we doing here? And if you, I wouldn't ask like, yeah,
- 11:21Speaker 2: but I know you are connected with some things, not
- 11:23Speaker 2: that Greg's think he's got you on speed dial, but like,
- 11:25Speaker 2: what have you heard? Some, some potential options are here.
- 11:27Speaker 1: I mean, what I've heard to this point, what certainly
- 11:30Speaker 1: the company line from the sec in both these schools
- 11:33Speaker 1: is we're planning on playing this matchup at the time
- 11:36Speaker 1: that we're scheduled to play it. And if they're able
- 11:39Speaker 1: to do that, then I certainly think they will. But,
- 11:43Speaker 1: I do think that there's a world where this game
- 11:45Speaker 1: could happen at 11 o'clock local time on Saturday. If
- 11:49Speaker 1: they feel like that's what they need to do to
- 11:51Speaker 1: get it in, in front of the storm. I also
- 11:53Speaker 1: think there's a world where this game could happen on Sunday.
- 11:55Speaker 1: As odd as that sounds. I do not think there's
- 11:58Speaker 1: a world where this game moves out of Tuscaloosa, barring
- 12:01Speaker 1: something really crazy. I don't know that Alabama would even
- 12:06Speaker 1: let that happen really like this is their home game.
- 12:09Speaker 1: I'm not sure they would, they will let go of it, but, uh,
- 12:12Speaker 1: I think it would take a really consequential set of
- 12:18Speaker 1: circumstances for this game to be moved or to move
- 12:24Speaker 1: off of this weekend. I think they're going to play
- 12:25Speaker 1: this game this weekend in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It's just a
- 12:28Speaker 1: question of what time, probably, in my estimation at this moment.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Does a weather filled game benefit anybody? I would, I
- 12:38Speaker 2: would lean Georgia, right. Running the ball. Bama's is better.
- 12:42Speaker 2: I mean, how could it not be better than last year,
- 12:45Speaker 2: but it is better, but I still think I have
- 12:47Speaker 2: more confidence in Georgia's side to run the ball in
- 12:51Speaker 2: this kind of way in a, in a weather type game.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, I think that's, that's certainly like maybe
- 12:58Speaker 1: a game that, that fits Georgia a little bit more
- 13:03Speaker 1: just with like all the tight ends and the, the
- 13:06Speaker 1: heavy personnel that they run as, as pretty much their
- 13:09Speaker 1: base offense at this point, I could see a world
- 13:12Speaker 1: where they, they like that type of football game, but
- 13:16Speaker 1: I will say Georgia's running back room, you know, Frazier
- 13:19Speaker 1: has not been able to, to really play much since
- 13:23Speaker 1: the first half of that Arkansas game in the third
- 13:26Speaker 1: week of the season. We saw Chauncey Bowen's, His backup
- 13:30Speaker 1: went off kind of before halftime last week. He did
- 13:33Speaker 1: come back into that game. But, you know, and then
- 13:37Speaker 1: they lost Kentucky transfer Dante Dowdell, who had like a
- 13:42Speaker 1: really tragic off-field accident back in the summer. But, like,
- 13:46Speaker 1: there's not a ton of depth and experience behind those
- 13:50Speaker 1: two guys. Dwight Phillips has been very good for Georgia
- 13:54Speaker 1: so far the last couple weeks with Frazier out. but
- 13:57Speaker 1: he is certainly more of a scat-back, receiving-back type player.
- 14:02Speaker 1: He's gained weight in his time in Athens, but this
- 14:06Speaker 1: is a different type. Georgia-Alabama games, I think of big
- 14:10Speaker 1: physical collisions and just a lot of rock-em-sock-em stuff going
- 14:16Speaker 1: on in the trenches. I think that it would be
- 14:20Speaker 1: probably favorable to Georgia in the sense that I think
- 14:23Speaker 1: Georgia's run defense is really good, but I Also, kind
- 14:28Speaker 1: of to go back to where we started this conversation,
- 14:30Speaker 1: I think Gunnar Stockton is playing quarterback at an elite
- 14:33Speaker 1: level right now. I think people have this image of
- 14:36Speaker 1: Gunnar Stockton as another all-Shucks kind of kid from the
- 14:42Speaker 1: mountains of North Georgia who isn't that talented, is a
- 14:46Speaker 1: game manager, is just there to not screw it up,
- 14:49Speaker 1: is kind of a representation, I think, in some people's
- 14:52Speaker 1: minds to Kirby Smart wanting to to maybe be a
- 14:56Speaker 1: little more risk averse offensively. And maybe in some ways,
- 15:02Speaker 1: I think he might represent in the eyes of some folks,
- 15:06Speaker 1: like what Georgia doesn't have, which is a key line Russell.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Like they don't have that, that super, super physically talented
- 15:13Speaker 1: player that just so obviously projects the NFL. But if
- 15:17Speaker 1: you look at the tape that Gunnar Stockton has put
- 15:19Speaker 1: together in the last few weeks, he's anticipating throws the
- 15:23Speaker 1: things that everyone said that he couldn't do. Like, Throw
- 15:26Speaker 1: layered balls over the middle. Fit balls between safeties and
- 15:29Speaker 1: corners and cover two. Throw an accurate deep ball in
- 15:35Speaker 1: stride with enough velocity and arm strength to really put
- 15:39Speaker 1: it out there. He's doing all of those things. He's
- 15:42Speaker 1: doing them at a very high level. And he's also very,
- 15:46Speaker 1: very good at getting Georgia into the right plays and
- 15:49Speaker 1: into the right protections and has, I think, kind of
- 15:52Speaker 1: mastered this offense on some level. in terms of recognizing, hey,
- 15:57Speaker 1: this is what's coming, so this is what's going to
- 15:59Speaker 1: be open on this play. And I think that Georgia's
- 16:03Speaker 1: going to want to throw the football in this game.
- 16:05Speaker 1: I don't think that– I think if you go down
- 16:08Speaker 1: the list of everything in this football game, the biggest
- 16:14Speaker 1: delta so far this year may be Georgia's pass offense
- 16:18Speaker 1: versus Alabama's pass defense. This Alabama pass defense has not
- 16:21Speaker 1: been great. So I do think Georgia would like to
- 16:24Speaker 1: play this game in good enough conditions to take advantage
- 16:26Speaker 1: of their offense.
- 16:29Speaker 2: I have not been very successful in life when I
- 16:32Speaker 2: bet against Kirby smart, man, I've got the opportunity to
- 16:36Speaker 2: go the opposite way and get plus money on this thing. But, uh,
- 16:39Speaker 2: give me a, give me a pick in this one.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Oh man. I mean, I, I do think the weather
- 16:45Speaker 1: factor is, makes this game even harder to handicap even
- 16:50Speaker 1: good weather. I, I feel like this probably comes down
- 16:53Speaker 1: to a turnover or a special teams play. This will
- 16:56Speaker 1: be a close game, if I had to guess. I
- 17:00Speaker 1: do favor... I favor Gunner's experience. This game a year
- 17:09Speaker 1: ago when Georgia and Alabama played in late September, that
- 17:15Speaker 1: sort of felt like Gunner's baptism by fire. And... He
- 17:21Speaker 1: became a different quarterback after that, and he kind of
- 17:24Speaker 1: got into that shootout with Trinidad Chambliss and came out
- 17:27Speaker 1: on top a few weeks later. Maybe Keelan– I mean,
- 17:31Speaker 1: Keelan has been in some pressure moments, obviously, in that
- 17:35Speaker 1: MSU game. They got pressed. But I think that Georgia's
- 17:38Speaker 1: defense is a different animal than what we've seen Alabama
- 17:42Speaker 1: play so far. Alabama's defense is also really, really good.
- 17:46Speaker 1: but we saw Georgia be productive against that Oklahoma defense.
- 17:50Speaker 1: And I do think that defense is pretty damn good.
- 17:53Speaker 1: So I favor Georgia, but this, you know, one turnover,
- 18:00Speaker 1: one fumble in the rain, one drop snap on a,
- 18:04Speaker 1: on a punt, that type of thing is fully capable
- 18:07Speaker 1: of swinging this football game.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Yeah. I think I like Georgia here, but with, just
- 18:13Speaker 2: the least amount of confidence of, of any of the
- 18:16Speaker 2: games that we'll do. I kind of just like the
- 18:18Speaker 2: idea of the plus money. And I, again, I think
- 18:20Speaker 2: I have more confidence in Georgia's defense than I do
- 18:23Speaker 2: in Bama's. If you, I don't know that they are,
- 18:26Speaker 2: but if you call the offense as a wash, I
- 18:28Speaker 2: think Georgia's defense is better than Bama's. I don't know
- 18:32Speaker 2: that it's incredibly tested at which I admitted. And that's
- 18:35Speaker 2: what makes it tough to know. They have not seen
- 18:37Speaker 2: a quarterback or an offense like Keenan Russell and now
- 18:40Speaker 2: in Bama. So if I'm wrong on this and, and
- 18:42Speaker 2: they're able to, I'm certainly given some historical credit to
- 18:45Speaker 2: Kirby smart too. I think I like Georgia with the,
- 18:49Speaker 2: you know, just to pull the upset because it's less
- 18:51Speaker 2: than three, wherever you can get the line, but a
- 18:54Speaker 2: slight upset there. I like the plus money on the
- 18:56Speaker 2: money line. So I think there's a value there.
- 19:00Speaker 1: I do think that Georgia's interior defensive line has a
- 19:05Speaker 1: chance to, to be impactful and, in this game. I,
- 19:11Speaker 1: you know, the, the center position for Alabama so far
- 19:13Speaker 1: this year, it's not been bad by any stretch, but
- 19:18Speaker 1: not maybe elite. And I think that Georgia's defensive tackles have,
- 19:23Speaker 1: have been very disruptive so far this year and have
- 19:26Speaker 1: been very good at eating up double teams and demanding
- 19:29Speaker 1: double teams. And if you can do that against a
- 19:33Speaker 1: young quarterback, then that starts to open up a lot
- 19:36Speaker 1: of options for those super talented inside linebackers to come
- 19:40Speaker 1: on delayed blitz and disguise different things. And that might
- 19:44Speaker 1: be where they're able to create a stop or two.
- 19:49Speaker 1: And that, that, feels like it could be the edge
- 19:51Speaker 1: of this game.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Let's just very quickly look at some picks in this game.
- 19:59Speaker 2: I am going to pull up an image here. Thanks
- 20:03Speaker 2: to prize picks and, And reminder, all new users on
- 20:07Speaker 2: the price picks app play $ 5, get 150 instantly if
- 20:10Speaker 2: you use code HMA. I think Gunner's passing total here
- 20:13Speaker 2: is significantly too low. 209.5, more or less. We're not
- 20:19Speaker 2: going to do all six of these, but I'm jumping
- 20:21Speaker 2: on the more on that. I feel like that line
- 20:25Speaker 2: is disrespectful. And so I'm jumping on it. I'll take
- 20:28Speaker 2: the more.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, to your point on that, Alabama from
- 20:34Speaker 1: just a pass success rate allowed standpoint and a pass
- 20:39Speaker 1: explosiveness standpoint, not, you know, a lot of them at
- 20:44Speaker 1: the country or anything like that, but not elite either.
- 20:47Speaker 1: And I think Gunner's been playing really well, like we
- 20:50Speaker 1: were just talking about. I would go with him in
- 20:53Speaker 1: this matchup, especially because of some of those injuries we
- 20:56Speaker 1: just discussed in Georgia's running back room. I could see
- 20:58Speaker 1: Georgia doing some things. screen game wise, throwing out of the,
- 21:02Speaker 1: to the backside of the backfield that, that pad his
- 21:04Speaker 1: stats a little bit that are really just extensions of
- 21:06Speaker 1: the run game.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Keelan Russell's got a much bigger number, two 48 and
- 21:10Speaker 2: a half. I kind of like the less here, especially
- 21:14Speaker 2: if though, Oh, you like the more, I kind of
- 21:16Speaker 2: like the less just because that number is so high,
- 21:19Speaker 2: but I, I, the weather factors in, I, I kind
- 21:23Speaker 2: of like the less there, but like really close, like
- 21:25Speaker 2: probably one I would avoid, but I'm going to go
- 21:27Speaker 2: the other direction on Keelan.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I wouldn't want to bet my own money on
- 21:31Speaker 1: it in this instance, but I'm going to go over
- 21:35Speaker 1: just because I do think that there is a universe
- 21:39Speaker 1: where Georgia is able to kind of limit that Alabama
- 21:42Speaker 1: run game and see those pass attempts go up for Russell.
- 21:47Speaker 1: And maybe there's a world where Georgia gets ahead at
- 21:50Speaker 1: some point and Alabama kind of gears up the offense
- 21:54Speaker 1: into tempo and a little more pass heavy.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Uh, last one. I like, I like the more on
- 22:00Speaker 2: Keelan's touchdowns 1.5. So I'm, I'm not buying as much yardage,
- 22:04Speaker 2: but I do think that once they get down there
- 22:07Speaker 2: into the red zone, I wonder how effective they will
- 22:08Speaker 2: be with that run game. Like I think Bama scores some,
- 22:11Speaker 2: and I don't think this is super high, like 60
- 22:14Speaker 2: points or anything like that. But I, I, I like
- 22:16Speaker 2: the more on his 1.5 passing touchdowns. I do like
- 22:19Speaker 2: them to get that. I, I like that.
- 22:23Speaker 1: I mean, I, I think that it's, it's more likely that,
- 22:27Speaker 1: you see Alabama scoring through the air than on the ground.
- 22:30Speaker 1: And I also think it's likely against the Georgia defense
- 22:33Speaker 1: that Alabama will try to score from outside the red zone.
- 22:37Speaker 1: They'll try to score from the 20 to the 40,
- 22:41Speaker 1: and that usually happens through the air.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Appreciate the prize picks for their support. Let's talk a
- 22:48Speaker 2: little Oklahoma and Texas. Red River shootout happening in the
- 22:51Speaker 2: Cotton Bowl this weekend. We are presented by prize picks.
- 22:55Speaker 2: I want to get thoughts here. Oklahoma's defense feels like
- 22:58Speaker 2: they're going to get leaned on quite a bit. Not
- 23:01Speaker 2: necessarily by Texas, maybe at some point later in the game,
- 23:03Speaker 2: but by Brett Venables and the staff, because their offense
- 23:07Speaker 2: has been anything but good here to start the year.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Now they did get the benefit of the bye week.
- 23:11Speaker 2: So did Texas to, to try and figure out their
- 23:13Speaker 2: clunky offense, but over under on this thing is like 39,
- 23:16Speaker 2: like certainly expecting low scoring here. And, and that even
- 23:20Speaker 2: kind of feels a little high unless things break out
- 23:22Speaker 2: in a special team's way, which, you know, Texas did
- 23:25Speaker 2: have happening in them in Knoxville. So, certainly possible with
- 23:28Speaker 2: the tanga and some of the playmakers that Oklahoma has.
- 23:30Speaker 2: But man, I'll tell you for a struggling offense, I
- 23:33Speaker 2: don't know if there's a worse defense to see in
- 23:35Speaker 2: the country than, than Texas is coming to play in,
- 23:39Speaker 2: in a rivalry game, which does get weird. Things do
- 23:41Speaker 2: happen strange in this game, but I really don't have
- 23:45Speaker 2: a lot of hope for Oklahoma's offense heading into this thing.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Man, I hear that their run game has been really bad.
- 23:56Speaker 1: I would say a bye week can heal a lot
- 24:00Speaker 1: in college football. We see teams in college football often
- 24:05Speaker 1: kind of hit a bye week around this time of
- 24:08Speaker 1: year and create a new identity for themselves. I don't
- 24:13Speaker 1: know if this Oklahoma offensive line is healthy enough to
- 24:17Speaker 1: do that or has the talent to do that. That's
- 24:19Speaker 1: going to be a huge thing to watch for me
- 24:21Speaker 1: in this game is what's on that Wednesday night SEC
- 24:24Speaker 1: availability report when it comes out, because we haven't really
- 24:27Speaker 1: gotten real injury updates on Oklahoma since the week of
- 24:29Speaker 1: that Georgia game. But if they could get some OL
- 24:32Speaker 1: pieces back, particularly their big tackle, his name starts with
- 24:37Speaker 1: an F, and I can never pronounce it totally correctly,
- 24:41Speaker 1: so I'm not going to try to. But that kid
- 24:44Speaker 1: is Fogey, I think. F-O-D-J-E is his last name. Really,
- 24:50Speaker 1: really good player. I think their best offensive lineman, and
- 24:53Speaker 1: Without him out there, they've had to shift a lot
- 24:55Speaker 1: of things around, and it's just not really worked out
- 25:00Speaker 1: super well. So I think that they might be able
- 25:04Speaker 1: to at least stop some of the bleeding we saw
- 25:06Speaker 1: against Georgia. I have like a really audacious take for you,
- 25:13Speaker 1: but I watched John Mateer two weeks ago in person.
- 25:19Speaker 1: I think his confidence is definitely not where you would
- 25:22Speaker 1: like for it to be. But he does make some
- 25:25Speaker 1: throws that you're like, okay, I see it. Like, if
- 25:28Speaker 1: he could just not turn the ball over, they have
- 25:31Speaker 1: a shot in this game. Now, that's a big if.
- 25:34Speaker 1: I mean, you know, if Heidi Klum wanted to go
- 25:38Speaker 1: on a date with me, then I would be the man.
- 25:40Speaker 1: But she doesn't. So, I mean, like, I would just say, though,
- 25:46Speaker 1: I see a path where I think Oklahoma can be
- 25:48Speaker 1: this game because I would– argue that Texas' offense has
- 25:53Speaker 1: not really been that great either. And I think Oklahoma's
- 25:59Speaker 1: defense is the unit in this game that I know
- 26:02Speaker 1: the most about. I think that they are very, very good.
- 26:05Speaker 1: I think Texas' defense is also very, very good. But
- 26:09Speaker 1: it's not like Tennessee's lit up the scoreboard against any
- 26:12Speaker 1: other respectable, powerful opponent so far this year. I mean,
- 26:16Speaker 1: they only scored 24 against Auburn. as well last week.
- 26:19Speaker 1: And it, and it took them some late points to
- 26:22Speaker 1: get there. I, I'm just kind of pumping the brakes
- 26:26Speaker 1: a little bit. And I know they had a special
- 26:27Speaker 1: team touchdown against Texas. Texas defense is really good. Love
- 26:30Speaker 1: Will Muschamp, respect it all, but Oklahoma's defense can keep
- 26:35Speaker 1: them in this game. If Arch Manning continues to play
- 26:38Speaker 1: as inconsistently as he has played to this point. Yeah.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Another big question. I, you know, because that game did
- 26:44Speaker 2: get very, very, um, out of hand fast, the game
- 26:49Speaker 2: you referenced that you saw material live, but it really
- 26:52Speaker 2: wasn't so much on the defense. Georgia had to pick
- 26:54Speaker 2: six or Georgia had a touchdown on defense. They had
- 26:57Speaker 2: an 11 yard drive that results in a touchdown. One
- 27:00Speaker 2: of their longer drives was a 54 yard drive, you know?
- 27:03Speaker 2: So like even that somewhat assisted and that's not taking
- 27:06Speaker 2: anything away from Georgia. They capitalize on the mistakes that
- 27:08Speaker 2: were made, but once they had four touchdowns in the
- 27:10Speaker 2: first half and they earned, one and three quarters of them,
- 27:15Speaker 2: you know, like they didn't need to do anything else offensively,
- 27:20Speaker 2: but the Oklahoma defense was not playing poorly in that
- 27:23Speaker 2: first half. They just were put in bad spot after
- 27:26Speaker 2: bad spot after bad spot. And George's defense scored more
- 27:29Speaker 2: than Oklahoma's offense did. So what, what the hell do
- 27:31Speaker 2: you do? So that's where I, I, you know, Oklahoma's
- 27:36Speaker 2: defense is going to have to show up because everything
- 27:38Speaker 2: you mentioned about, you know, the bi-week and the get
- 27:40Speaker 2: right for Oklahoma's offense that, same possibility exists for arch
- 27:44Speaker 2: and the talented playmakers that they have. Um, so Oklahoma's
- 27:47Speaker 2: defense has to show up. It is so cliche to
- 27:50Speaker 2: say that turnovers will make a big impact, but I
- 27:52Speaker 2: saw stats and I, and I should have saved the
- 27:53Speaker 2: tweet of what Oklahoma's results are when they have zero turnovers,
- 27:59Speaker 2: one turnover and two, when they don't have a turnover,
- 28:02Speaker 2: they average winning by 14. When they have one turnover,
- 28:05Speaker 2: they average winning by about a touchdown. I think when
- 28:07Speaker 2: they have two turnovers, they average losing by multiple scores.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Um, yeah.
- 28:12Speaker 2: Mateer protecting the ball. A lot of people have talked about, Oh, well,
- 28:16Speaker 2: if Oklahoma King forces a couple of turnovers, yes, I agree.
- 28:19Speaker 2: That would be great. The most important thing for me
- 28:22Speaker 2: is that Oklahoma doesn't turn the ball over. Cause that'll,
- 28:24Speaker 2: that'll make this a fourth quarter game. If they turn
- 28:26Speaker 2: it over, man, it could be just like that Georgia game.
- 28:29Speaker 2: You give Arch Manning 11 yards to go score. They're
- 28:33Speaker 2: going to score, you know? So that's where I think
- 28:36Speaker 2: that that's really what it comes down to. It's the
- 28:38Speaker 2: material factor of, can he protect the ball? If he can,
- 28:42Speaker 2: I have enough faith in Oklahoma's defense, which is really good,
- 28:45Speaker 2: to limit a Texas offense that hasn't been very impressive either.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Certainly more impressive than Oklahoma's, but you're comparing different things there.
- 28:54Speaker 1: What's interesting, if you go to GameOnPaper.com, which is a
- 28:58Speaker 1: website that I like to look at, they do a
- 29:02Speaker 1: really good job of putting together a lot of these
- 29:04Speaker 1: advanced stats that I like to reference and that I
- 29:07Speaker 1: find informative. There's no substitute for watching tape. I'll always
- 29:10Speaker 1: say that, but I've watched a lot of both these
- 29:14Speaker 1: teams this year, and I do think that if you
- 29:17Speaker 1: look at GameOnPaper.com, they have these radar charts that show
- 29:21Speaker 1: things like pass success rate, yards per drop back, rush explosiveness,
- 29:27Speaker 1: offensive explosiveness, defensive, how do you limit explosiveness? And so
- 29:31Speaker 1: the Texas offense versus the Oklahoma defense, you see the
- 29:36Speaker 1: Oklahoma defense radar chart really swallow the Texas offenses. radar chart.
- 29:43Speaker 1: The Texas... The Oklahoma defense is like hundreds percentile in
- 29:48Speaker 1: yards per drop back allowed, pass EPA per play, late
- 29:52Speaker 1: down success rate, early down EPA. Lots of great stuff
- 29:55Speaker 1: for them. And they... swallow the Texas offense to about
- 30:01Speaker 1: the same kind of quantity that the Texas defense swallows
- 30:04Speaker 1: the Oklahoma offense. Yeah. So my point in saying all
- 30:08Speaker 1: that is, A, I agree that both these defenses can
- 30:14Speaker 1: kind of hold each other down and the turnovers probably
- 30:16Speaker 1: are the difference in a game like that. But also
- 30:20Speaker 1: to say, when you look at Georgia in that Oklahoma game,
- 30:26Speaker 1: they were able to do some things in the first
- 30:29Speaker 1: couple of drives that were schemed up well and, and that,
- 30:33Speaker 1: you know, they, they clearly had, had planned for and
- 30:37Speaker 1: get up on them. And then mature kind of did
- 30:40Speaker 1: the rest for them. But I looked at looking back
- 30:43Speaker 1: at what they did with their tight ends and sort
- 30:45Speaker 1: of how they attacked Oklahoma's defense. I'm not sure that
- 30:48Speaker 1: it totally translates to how Texas plays offense. And that's
- 30:52Speaker 1: interesting to me because I, I do think that there's
- 30:56Speaker 1: a shot if Texas doesn't come out, with good answers
- 31:00Speaker 1: on the opening script. I am of the opinion, just
- 31:03Speaker 1: to say the quiet part out loud here. I think
- 31:06Speaker 1: Brent Venables is one of the best sign stealers in
- 31:10Speaker 1: college football. I'm not saying he's doing, he's not doing
- 31:13Speaker 1: anything illegal or anything like that. Right. Like, but like,
- 31:15Speaker 1: he's really good at that aspect of the game. And
- 31:18Speaker 1: he's really a brilliant defensive mind who like, once he
- 31:22Speaker 1: sees a formation or sees something, he remembers it and
- 31:26Speaker 1: kind of knows what's coming and, if you don't come
- 31:30Speaker 1: out with those plays that he hasn't seen before and
- 31:33Speaker 1: have some success, Texas can be in trouble in this game.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Like if they're not able to put a touchdown or
- 31:40Speaker 1: 10 points on the board in the first quarter, I
- 31:43Speaker 1: think that they're going to be in a nail biter
- 31:45Speaker 1: all the way to the finish.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Texas is seven and a half point favorite right now.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Minus three 25 to win. Give me a score on
- 31:56Speaker 2: this one and who covers. I guess your score will
- 31:58Speaker 2: tell me who covers. But, yeah, so give me a score.
- 32:02Speaker 1: I got Oklahoma covered in this game. Yeah, man, this
- 32:09Speaker 1: is one of those weird series. I think that Oklahoma's
- 32:15Speaker 1: a better football team than they've kind of shown through
- 32:19Speaker 1: their results so far this year. I think that they
- 32:22Speaker 1: figure it out. I think Mateer, the kind of local kid,
- 32:27Speaker 1: makes good here. I am going to say Tate Sandell,
- 32:33Speaker 1: the Groza Award-winning kicker, is the difference. Give me Oklahoma 19,
- 32:41Speaker 1: Texas 17.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Ooh, calling the upset. I'm going to go the other way.
- 32:45Speaker 2: I'll say Oklahoma does cover. Give me 20 to 16.
- 32:49Speaker 2: I like some field goals. I like some weirdness. Ugly
- 32:53Speaker 2: football game. Yeah, I don't like the scores being pretty
- 32:59Speaker 2: in this one. And, you know, the total certainly won't
- 33:03Speaker 2: be pretty. Down to 38.5, at least on hard rock. So, yeah,
- 33:07Speaker 2: give me Texas a win, but I'll take Oklahoma to
- 33:10Speaker 2: cover the spread. Last up today, Indiana and Nebraska. Surprisingly,
- 33:16Speaker 2: this is a 7.5-point spread, 7-point spread based on where
- 33:19Speaker 2: you find it. A little closer than.
- 33:22Speaker 2: A little closer than people might expect for the defending
- 33:25Speaker 2: national champion, who I do think a lot of people
- 33:27Speaker 2: had doubts on after Northwestern, and then we saw the
- 33:29Speaker 2: Northwestern game against Penn State. Not that, again, Penn State,
- 33:32Speaker 2: you're playing a lot of transitive property at this point here, TJ,
- 33:34Speaker 2: but not that Penn State's great, but still, what Northwestern
- 33:37Speaker 2: did was incredibly impressive in that opener there at their
- 33:42Speaker 2: new field. This is presented by PrizePix. Let's talk a
- 33:45Speaker 2: little Big Ten for a few minutes. With this game,
- 33:49Speaker 2: I certainly think Nebraska... has benefited from a very soft
- 33:53Speaker 2: schedule to open things up. What feels different is that
- 33:56Speaker 2: they always do that. They always benefit from a soft
- 33:58Speaker 2: schedule to open up and they've handled business for the
- 34:00Speaker 2: first time in God knows how, you know, 2005 was
- 34:04Speaker 2: maybe the last time they were five. And like, it's
- 34:05Speaker 2: been a while since they were sitting here at five
- 34:07Speaker 2: and oh, and I, you know, I'm not a Nebraska
- 34:10Speaker 2: fan by, by any means. I'm not an Indiana fan
- 34:13Speaker 2: by any means. I'm really glad, like as a college
- 34:15Speaker 2: football fan, I'm really glad that they've handled business because
- 34:18Speaker 2: I wanted this to be like, They had no business
- 34:20Speaker 2: losing to Michigan State. They had certainly no business losing
- 34:23Speaker 2: out of conference with their out-of-conference schedule. And then really
- 34:25Speaker 2: against Maryland, too, where the drain is being circled there.
- 34:28Speaker 2: I'm glad they've taken care of business and found a
- 34:31Speaker 2: way to beat a 5-0. And same thing with Indiana.
- 34:33Speaker 2: If Northwestern had pulled off that upset, they'd lose a
- 34:36Speaker 2: little bit of luster on this game. It is big
- 34:38Speaker 2: noon kickoff. I would love if this was a night game,
- 34:42Speaker 2: but again, that's just not how Fox does things.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Big noon kickoff, baby. But.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Thoughts here. Can Calandria and the boys potentially get it
- 34:51Speaker 2: done at home?
- 34:52Speaker 1: I mean, look, I could not love a player more
- 34:55Speaker 1: than I already love Anthony Calandria ever since he hit that,
- 35:01Speaker 1: that a two point conversion in that game at UVA
- 35:05Speaker 1: a couple of years ago and like stood after his
- 35:08Speaker 1: helmet fell, fell off with his hands on his hips
- 35:11Speaker 1: and like posed like he was like a Spartan King
- 35:14Speaker 1: or something. and got the 15 yard flag that ended
- 35:17Speaker 1: up losing them the game. I love them so much.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Some of these are worth it. Yeah. Yeah. Just do
- 35:24Speaker 1: it and be, let's just do it and be legends
- 35:26Speaker 1: in the words of the guys who, uh, organized fire
- 35:28Speaker 1: fest all those years back. But I, I am intrigued
- 35:34Speaker 1: by Nebraska. I am Nebraska curious at this point. I'm
- 35:37Speaker 1: not necessarily like ready to convert to a diet of
- 35:43Speaker 1: corn and and only red clothing, although I do have
- 35:46Speaker 1: a red shirt on today. But I look at this
- 35:52Speaker 1: Nebraska team, I thought they responded very well after getting
- 35:57Speaker 1: down a little early to Maryland. Obviously kicked it into
- 36:01Speaker 1: high gear. And when you look at some of those
- 36:04Speaker 1: SP plus rankings, like some of those efficiency rankings that
- 36:07Speaker 1: we talk about, power rankings that are not based on resume,
- 36:10Speaker 1: but Rankings that do not change and fluctuate a lot.
- 36:17Speaker 1: I'm talking rankings that are based on metrics and how
- 36:21Speaker 1: you perform, not necessarily even whether you win or lose.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Nebraska's sitting 12th in SB Plus right now. They're doing
- 36:31Speaker 1: that with the 14th best offense and the 19th best defense.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Is that predictive? No. Indiana's third in SB Plus. Indiana's
- 36:40Speaker 1: a great football team. But I do think it speaks
- 36:43Speaker 1: to this Nebraska team being a little bit of a
- 36:47Speaker 1: different animal. I think this team is a little more
- 36:50Speaker 1: serious than certainly any of the Matt Rule teams that
- 36:54Speaker 1: we've seen so far. And I love what Calandria has
- 37:00Speaker 1: been able to do for them. 13 touchdowns, two interceptions.
- 37:03Speaker 1: He's protected the football in ways that I'm not sure–
- 37:08Speaker 1: I ever expected he would in his career, right? Like he's,
- 37:11Speaker 1: he's really only put the football in danger a couple
- 37:15Speaker 1: of times this year. And I think he's done a
- 37:20Speaker 1: very good job of, of turning them into an explosive
- 37:25Speaker 1: offense in a lot of ways. You know, they're not
- 37:28Speaker 1: like a juggernaut in that area, but they are much
- 37:33Speaker 1: more explosive than they've been at any other point in time.
- 37:36Speaker 1: And they've, man should be efficient enough to, to stay
- 37:40Speaker 1: out on the field until those explosive plays pop and they,
- 37:43Speaker 1: they're able to score. So, uh, I think they can
- 37:47Speaker 1: give Indiana something, right? Like I don't expect Indiana to
- 37:51Speaker 1: just walk all over.
- 37:53Speaker 2: On the other side, I think Hoover looks really good
- 37:56Speaker 2: on Saturday. He hasn't turned the ball over yet as
- 37:59Speaker 2: much of a question as that was with him coming
- 38:01Speaker 2: into this season. Um, turbo Richard back in this game,
- 38:04Speaker 2: their offense, when going, I think they have two elite
- 38:08Speaker 2: wide receivers. And I think that word elite gets thrown
- 38:10Speaker 2: around too much, but I think they have really good
- 38:12Speaker 2: weapons that has made it somewhat comfortable. I think they've
- 38:15Speaker 2: got a good offensive coordinator that has made Hoover's life
- 38:18Speaker 2: a little bit easier. What I wonder about for them.
- 38:20Speaker 2: And I, and this goes both ways. What I wonder
- 38:22Speaker 2: about for them is I don't think they'll see a team.
- 38:25Speaker 2: They haven't seen a team is the better way to
- 38:27Speaker 2: say it. That's this physical. that they've gone up against.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Their schedule has been absolute. Northwestern, I will give some
- 38:34Speaker 2: more credit to. Northwestern, probably the best opponent that either
- 38:37Speaker 2: of these two teams have played. I don't know that
- 38:40Speaker 2: they've seen a team this physical or played in an
- 38:45Speaker 2: atmosphere that's quite like this. This is one of the
- 38:48Speaker 2: bigger games to happen in Lincoln in quite some time,
- 38:52Speaker 2: especially when you can consider where Nebraska is too. not
- 38:56Speaker 2: that they're ranked, but at five and Oh, so I
- 38:58Speaker 2: do wonder on that side too, like just what Hoover
- 39:01Speaker 2: looks like against this defense. And a lot of the
- 39:04Speaker 2: things I think we say about Calandria, you know, Josh
- 39:07Speaker 2: Hoover looks really good and they probably have more weapons than,
- 39:11Speaker 2: than Nebraska does at this moment. And so how Nebraska
- 39:14Speaker 2: plays them defensively, what, you know, what Indiana's offense is
- 39:19Speaker 2: able to do certainly is an intriguing factor here.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure. I think that, that's kind of the
- 39:27Speaker 1: big question. I don't know what Nebraska's defense is at all.
- 39:34Speaker 1: I know that they made Maryland look a little more
- 39:40Speaker 1: competent at times than a lot of teams have so
- 39:45Speaker 1: far this year. So that's a little bit concerning. I
- 39:49Speaker 1: think that there's a chance that's where this game kind
- 39:52Speaker 1: of breaks down for them in the run game in particular.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Looking at all those things that I just said about
- 40:02Speaker 1: Calandria and how fond I am of him and how
- 40:05Speaker 1: good of a job I think he's doing, the spot
- 40:08Speaker 1: that scares me for Nebraska in this game is the
- 40:12Speaker 1: left side of the offensive line. Pritchett, their tackle, 57,
- 40:16Speaker 1: and then Mbinga, the guard, 65. Higher pressure rates, particularly
- 40:22Speaker 1: with Mbinga. Indiana, I don't know that I would say
- 40:28Speaker 1: that they've been super, super dominant in pass rush, but
- 40:35Speaker 1: I've come away from the Northwestern game thinking, hey, they're
- 40:40Speaker 1: coming on pretty strong on Childs on a lot of
- 40:44Speaker 1: the obvious passing downs. And Obviously, Northwestern went and Blue
- 40:49Speaker 1: Pin stayed out the next week and ran all over them,
- 40:52Speaker 1: run blocking, pass blocking, two different things. But I do
- 40:56Speaker 1: think Indiana's experience with the interior of the defensive line
- 41:02Speaker 1: and just some of the games that those guys have
- 41:04Speaker 1: played in, this is not– I'm not saying this isn't
- 41:08Speaker 1: a big game because it is a big game. It's
- 41:10Speaker 1: two undefeated teams in October. But this will not feel
- 41:13Speaker 1: like a big game to these guys that have been
- 41:15Speaker 1: around the block a lot and that were very disruptive
- 41:19Speaker 1: against Alabama and the Rose Bowl and against Miami and
- 41:22Speaker 1: against a lot of good teams. For sure. So that
- 41:28Speaker 1: would be the area that I'd be concerned about as
- 41:31Speaker 1: a Nebraska fan is their ability to keep Calandria upright
- 41:34Speaker 1: because I think they're going to struggle on that left
- 41:36Speaker 1: side in particular.
- 41:37Speaker 2: We talk all the time about, you know, the way
- 41:40Speaker 2: matchups work and now that we're getting more data because
- 41:42Speaker 2: we've gotten into conference play analytics and deep dives into
- 41:46Speaker 2: pressure rates and things that you're talking about here. But
- 41:48Speaker 2: I do think you bring up something within that is
- 41:51Speaker 2: just the moment, the moment that this is for Nebraska,
- 41:55Speaker 2: because I don't really worry about a look ahead for
- 41:59Speaker 2: Although both these teams do have huge games next week. Uh,
- 42:02Speaker 2: I think Nebraska goes to Oregon and Indiana welcomes Ohio
- 42:05Speaker 2: state in the, maybe the biggest game in Bloomington ever. Um,
- 42:09Speaker 2: so there is that potential. I don't really worry about that. Well,
- 42:14Speaker 2: I don't worry about it at all from the Nebraska
- 42:15Speaker 2: side because your attention is on the defending national champions.
- 42:20Speaker 2: I don't really worry about it from the Indiana side
- 42:21Speaker 2: either because you know, Kirsten, he just doesn't seem like
- 42:25Speaker 2: the kind of guy that will let you do that.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Right.
- 42:28Speaker 2: And so it's not so much the look ahead. It's
- 42:31Speaker 2: more so. And this is not something you can quantify
- 42:35Speaker 2: with any kind of data. So I'm going off off
- 42:37Speaker 2: kilter here from, you know, but that's my role on
- 42:40Speaker 2: the show. But the the idea of like, yeah, when
- 42:43Speaker 2: Calandra is out there and you've got you're going to
- 42:45Speaker 2: get punched in this game like you haven't gotten punched before.
- 42:48Speaker 2: How do you respond to it, man? At home against
- 42:50Speaker 2: the defending national champs, a really good team that I
- 42:56Speaker 2: think we would both agree is one of a handful
- 42:59Speaker 2: or so of teams that can win a national championship
- 43:03Speaker 2: this year. There's no doubt that Indiana is a more
- 43:05Speaker 2: talented team. And Nebraska is going to get punched in
- 43:08Speaker 2: this game like they have not yet. They responded to
- 43:11Speaker 2: getting punched against Maryland. Getting punched against Maryland and getting
- 43:14Speaker 2: punched against Indiana is two certainly different animals. But maybe
- 43:17Speaker 2: that Maryland game was a good experience to at least
- 43:20Speaker 2: know how to respond. Um, But when that happens, what
- 43:24Speaker 2: is Calandra able to do? I'll tell you, I like
- 43:26Speaker 2: his Moxie and I know it cost them the game
- 43:29Speaker 2: when he was at Virginia, but I do like a
- 43:31Speaker 2: guy with that kind of Moxie, you know, that just
- 43:34Speaker 2: gets back up and goes. And it didn't work out super,
- 43:36Speaker 2: super well for him, but I was glad phase on
- 43:39Speaker 2: Brandon came back in the game against Texas and, and
- 43:41Speaker 2: was like, no, I'm, I'm going back to play. Like,
- 43:43Speaker 2: I mean, I like that from a starting quarterback now effectiveness,
- 43:48Speaker 2: but yeah, give me that mindset all day. because something's
- 43:51Speaker 2: going to happen in this game where Nebraska goes, it
- 43:53Speaker 2: goes down or, you know, he gets hit a third
- 43:56Speaker 2: time on a drive or, or just whatever the situation is.
- 43:59Speaker 2: And you're going to have to respond. And that's something that, again,
- 44:01Speaker 2: I don't think we can quantify, but that will be
- 44:04Speaker 2: really interesting to me because I'll say this. If Nebraska
- 44:06Speaker 2: just comes out and covers the spread and I, none
- 44:09Speaker 2: of their fans want to hear silver lining stuff, but
- 44:12Speaker 2: I think this is a Nebraska has looked different to
- 44:15Speaker 2: me this year under rule. And I know the quality
- 44:18Speaker 2: of competition, but, they have looked different. They've looked tougher.
- 44:21Speaker 2: They've looked more physical. They're certainly more explosive. They've got
- 44:24Speaker 2: a quarterback who can actually lead them. And that divorce
- 44:27Speaker 2: worked out great. I think for both sides of, of
- 44:29Speaker 2: rail and in Oregon too. Yeah. Yeah. I, I think
- 44:33Speaker 2: that this is a different Nebraska team, but I can
- 44:36Speaker 2: think that against Michigan state and Maryland, and it doesn't
- 44:38Speaker 2: really matter. I really need to see it this weekend
- 44:40Speaker 2: when or loss, this needs to be a good showing
- 44:44Speaker 2: by Nebraska. And I think, Even in a loss, you
- 44:47Speaker 2: could believe in them a little bit more right now
- 44:50Speaker 2: than you have at any point in the rule era.
- 44:53Speaker 1: Yeah. No, I think all of that is legitimate. I
- 44:59Speaker 1: agree with everything you said. I agree that Nebraska feels different,
- 45:07Speaker 1: looks different this season. I think there are some guys
- 45:10Speaker 1: on this team that are noticeably just better head and
- 45:15Speaker 1: shoulders better athletes than some of the pieces that Nebraska
- 45:18Speaker 1: has fielded in recent years. Like, William Zanieri was the
- 45:23Speaker 1: top recruit in a lot of people's eyes in his
- 45:25Speaker 1: class a couple years ago. Yeah, transferred from Missouri. Georgia
- 45:30Speaker 1: wanted that kid bad, right? And now he's at Nebraska,
- 45:33Speaker 1: and he's got three sacks and 11 quarterback pressures this year.
- 45:36Speaker 1: And they've been able to pair him up with Whittington
- 45:39Speaker 1: on the interior of the defensive line, who's also creating–
- 45:43Speaker 1: a lot of havoc. They've got pieces up front on
- 45:47Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage defensively. They've always played hard under rule.
- 45:55Speaker 1: In a lot of ways, I think that their defensive
- 45:58Speaker 1: line maybe played above their talent level at times the
- 46:01Speaker 1: past couple of years, particularly against the run. Now, they
- 46:06Speaker 1: can play with good technique, but also be really talented.
- 46:10Speaker 1: That's how you That's how you win games against the
- 46:13Speaker 1: Indianas of the world, man. It is. These games are
- 46:16Speaker 1: won up front more often than not. I think that
- 46:22Speaker 1: Josh Hoover has done a good job protecting the football
- 46:25Speaker 1: this year. But we also haven't really seen him be
- 46:30Speaker 1: the guy that has won games for Indiana. That Northwestern game,
- 46:36Speaker 1: the run game really kind of had to bail them out.
- 46:39Speaker 1: And it was able to. But there was a long
- 46:42Speaker 1: stretch of that second half where they got themselves into
- 46:46Speaker 1: danger because Hoover wasn't able to take them on drives
- 46:51Speaker 1: and maintain possession. I think especially in this game, when
- 46:56Speaker 1: you look at what Nebraska has up front, there's a
- 47:01Speaker 1: world where, hey, I can see them stopping the run
- 47:04Speaker 1: and getting Indiana into some third and longs. And then
- 47:06Speaker 1: once they've got them there, I can see them getting
- 47:09Speaker 1: some pressure onto Hoover and if you speed Hoover up,
- 47:14Speaker 1: what does the decision-making start to look like? Right. And
- 47:17Speaker 1: then you look outside and you're like, okay, uh, you know, they've,
- 47:21Speaker 1: they've got Becker on the outside. We know that that's
- 47:24Speaker 1: the go-to guy, Becker and Marsh, two really, really good
- 47:27Speaker 1: outside receivers. But I like Indiana's or I'm sorry. I
- 47:31Speaker 1: like Nebraska's corners. Like I like Marshall a lot. I
- 47:34Speaker 1: think he's been pretty good. Uh, so I'm interested to
- 47:39Speaker 1: see how it plays out, but, uh, This line, I think,
- 47:42Speaker 1: is appropriate is the thing I'm driving at. And I
- 47:45Speaker 1: think that if you look at what Matt Rule's doing,
- 47:48Speaker 1: you know, look, man, I don't get to talk Nebraska
- 47:50Speaker 1: football on air much. So, in case we don't talk
- 47:53Speaker 1: about them again for a little while, like, I like
- 47:57Speaker 1: what Matt Rule's doing a lot. You look at the
- 47:59Speaker 1: way he's recruiting Georgia, where I'm sitting right now. Man, like,
- 48:05Speaker 1: he's up in here and he's creating relationships and he's
- 48:09Speaker 1: activating NIL. and getting money to kids that would normally
- 48:14Speaker 1: sign with the SEC, and he's getting them to come
- 48:17Speaker 1: to Nebraska. I think that this is what we're going
- 48:22Speaker 1: to see from Nebraska football for a little while moving
- 48:25Speaker 1: forward in terms of just the bodies on the line
- 48:28Speaker 1: of scrimmage are starting to look different. I don't think
- 48:32Speaker 1: that they're quite there yet. I think they've got pieces.
- 48:38Speaker 1: I don't think Over the course of four quarters, they've
- 48:40Speaker 1: got maybe enough pieces to pull this off. But I
- 48:45Speaker 1: do think they can cover the spread. I think Indiana
- 48:48Speaker 1: wins a four-point game or something like a 28-24 kind
- 48:52Speaker 1: of game in the end. But when you talk about
- 48:55Speaker 1: a game that feels that close, you and I both
- 48:59Speaker 1: know one turnover, one play that goes your way, create
- 49:04Speaker 1: a possession somewhere, a special teams break, maybe they can
- 49:08Speaker 1: steal it.
- 49:09Speaker 2: Yeah. I think I'm going to lean Indiana here, but
- 49:14Speaker 2: I think it's close. um close to the spread sorry
- 49:18Speaker 2: not not super close like i think indiana by like
- 49:21Speaker 2: 10 i think this is like a 27 17 or
- 49:25Speaker 2: a 31 21 game where maybe indiana just gets up
- 49:29Speaker 2: and and nebraska responds well and just keeps chipping away
- 49:33Speaker 2: but isn't able to overcome the mountain or They've kept
- 49:35Speaker 2: it close, and Indiana kind of salts it away late
- 49:38Speaker 2: and gets a 10-point win. I hope I'm wrong on
- 49:40Speaker 2: this because I do think Indiana's really, really good, and
- 49:44Speaker 2: I would like to see Nebraska be really good. So
- 49:46Speaker 2: I hope I'm wrong. I hope you're right. Typically how
- 49:48Speaker 2: it works.
- 49:49Speaker 1: That's not true.
- 49:50Speaker 2: That is not true.
- 49:51Speaker 1: But we should tally up our spread records before we
- 49:54Speaker 1: get too deep, and we keep talking about doing that. Yeah, yeah.
- 49:58Speaker 1: I would say one thing that's interesting to me about
- 50:02Speaker 1: this game, like, Indiana, I know that they got pushed
- 50:07Speaker 1: and tested a little bit by Northwestern. Good. That's great.
- 50:12Speaker 1: They need that. But that was a home game. And
- 50:16Speaker 1: one thing that I've learned from sitting in front of
- 50:20Speaker 1: Kirby Smart for a lot of press conferences is it's
- 50:23Speaker 1: really hard the first time you take a team out
- 50:25Speaker 1: on the road in conference play. And it's doubly hard
- 50:30Speaker 1: if you're going to play a good football team in
- 50:32Speaker 1: a good environment. And this could be a spot where
- 50:37Speaker 1: Indiana's out-of-conference scheduling kind of comes back and bites them
- 50:43Speaker 1: a little bit, just in the sense of if they
- 50:45Speaker 1: looked overwhelmed in the first half of this game, I
- 50:49Speaker 1: won't be surprised because this will be a new environment
- 50:52Speaker 1: for this team, and there's just a different level of
- 50:56Speaker 1: anxiety that comes with playing on the road for 18-
- 51:00Speaker 1: to 22-year-old kids normally. Signetti's really good at limiting those
- 51:04Speaker 1: types of variables. and having his team prepared. But I
- 51:10Speaker 1: do think that that will be a factor in this game,
- 51:13Speaker 1: and I could see a game where Indiana kind of
- 51:16Speaker 1: has to settle in and come from behind, and that's
- 51:20Speaker 1: why I'm taking Nebraska in the points. But I still
- 51:22Speaker 1: think Indiana gets it in the end.
- 51:26Speaker 2: I am going the other way. I do have them
- 51:29Speaker 2: all listed here. I'm going to tell Claude to do
- 51:31Speaker 2: this later, but just as a quick recap here, The
- 51:34Speaker 2: hook killed both of us on the UGA Vandy game.
- 51:37Speaker 2: So thank you very much for Vegas for knowing what
- 51:40Speaker 2: you were doing there. I hate you. You had Clemson.
- 51:45Speaker 2: I had Miami, but you had Missouri. I had Florida.
- 51:47Speaker 2: So we split. We pushed the week. You had first
- 51:51Speaker 2: half UGA. I don't know what that line ended up being.
- 51:54Speaker 2: I don't know what.
- 51:55Speaker 1: They didn't cover it. They didn't cover it. It was 21-14. Yeah.
- 52:00Speaker 2: That touchdown right before half.
- 52:02Speaker 1: So.
- 52:03Speaker 2: But, yeah, we split the week last week. You took
- 52:06Speaker 2: an extra one.
- 52:06Speaker 1: And you can thank Kirby Smart for kneeling out.
- 52:11Speaker 2: That's the worst.
- 52:13Speaker 1: Oh, yes.
- 52:13Speaker 2: I saw the bad beats.
- 52:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:15Speaker 2: I saw it.
- 52:15Speaker 1: Vanderbilt was on, like, the Vanderbilt eight-yard line. Bo Walker,
- 52:19Speaker 1: Georgia's second-year running back, their backup running back, kid breaks
- 52:23Speaker 1: off like a 59-yarder. You can tell Kirby likes Clark Lee, man,
- 52:28Speaker 1: because he might not have kneeled it out for some guys. jerk.
- 52:35Speaker 2: Could have taken the field goal. Could have taken the
- 52:37Speaker 2: field goal for us.
- 52:38Speaker 1: Didn't have to.
- 52:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. This was your complete matchup guide. Georgia, Bama, Indiana, Nebraska,
- 52:46Speaker 2: Red River, Oklahoma, Texas as well. Graham Coffey, Dog Central.
- 52:49Speaker 2: Go check him out. Doing a lot of great things there. Again,
- 52:52Speaker 2: takes place on College Football Addiction. We appreciate you guys
- 52:54Speaker 2: for tuning in. We will be back next week with
- 52:56Speaker 2: more games. I will finally total up our tallies and
- 52:59Speaker 2: we'll get that for you just to see where we're at.
- 53:02Speaker 2: But Graham, thanks for hanging out, bud.
