- 0:44Well, that means we're on a brand new
- 0:46master topic.
- 0:49Yes, if this is your very first time
- 0:52with me, I want to say thank you,

- 1:05I want to say welcome back to you.
- 1:07So every single day, you know, I put
- 1:10on the Inspirations for Your Life show, we've
- 1:11been on the air now, oh gosh, four
- 1:14years and basically three months, yeah, a quarter
- 1:22of the way through almost of our fifth
- 1:25year, a lot of great stuff to talk
- 1:27about.
- 1:27So guys, if you're thirsty, if you're hungry
- 1:29or what have you, feel free to go
- 1:30grab that quickly and head on back to

- 1:37By the way, I've got a nice RO
- 1:38water here with some fresh lemon in it,
- 1:40which is really sweet, delicious, and very healthy
- 1:43for your mind and body.
- 1:45So guys, without any further ado, I want
- 1:46to start, but before I do start the
- 1:48show, I want to let you know that
- 1:50I am now a published author, and I'm
- 1:52so grateful for that, and this is my
- 1:54book, Drained to Driven, Breaking the Cycle of
- 1:58Burnout Through Awareness, Boundaries and Intentional Living.
- 2:01So I'll probably be talking about this every
- 2:02show, just mentioning it, because I'm very proud
- 2:05about the book, it talks about what happened
- 2:0614 years ago in my life, and how
- 2:09if that didn't happen, I would not be,
- 2:11ladies and gentlemen, where I am today.
- 2:14Talks about awareness from a lot of different
- 2:16perspectives.
- 2:17So really grateful for that, guys.
- 2:20All right.
- 2:21Incidentally, if you do want to check out
- 2:23the big reveal that we had, you can
- 2:26go to believemeachieved.com, and yeah, I think
- 2:32you guys will definitely find this to be
- 2:35pretty interesting.
- 2:37You can find more information about the book,
- 2:40and possibly read it, and lots of other
- 2:44stuff, but also get a lot of my
- 2:47free content, you know, inspirational content that I
- 2:50put out there every single day.
- 2:52So again, I am really, really grateful for
- 2:56everyone that has supported me along my journey
- 3:00and continues to support me.
- 3:01So thanks very much.
- 3:03So let's go ahead, guys, and kick this
- 3:05show off.
- 3:07Are you guys ready?
- 3:08I know I am.
- 3:09So ladies and gentlemen, in case you did
- 3:11not know, yes, you are tuned into Inspirations
- 3:15for Your Life.
- 3:17This is the daily motivational show.
- 3:19That's right, guys, the daily motivational show, Inspirations
- 3:22for Your Life.
- 3:24And so I do want to take the
- 3:26opportunity to definitely welcome you to the show
- 3:29today.
- 3:30Again, my name is John C.
- 3:31Morley, serial entrepreneur, engineer, marketing specialist, video producer,
- 3:39podcast host, host, host, host, and coach, and
- 3:45also a passionate lifelong learner.
- 3:47And I'm very proud to say I'm now
- 3:50an official published author with my own first
- 3:53book.
- 3:53And yes, guys, there will be more.
- 3:56Yes.
- 3:57Not just about motivation, but I'm also going
- 3:59to be writing a book about AI, probably
- 4:02the end of this year, The Truth About
- 4:03AI That the Media and the World Don't
- 4:06Really Tell You About.
- 4:08So these are some really, really cool things
- 4:11that we're doing.
- 4:12And this book has been a really great,
- 4:14I'm going to say, a starting point, but
- 4:17more so a great vehicle for me to
- 4:20get the word out about my story and
- 4:23hopefully impact some people's lives.
- 4:25So, yes, Why Most People Drift Instead of
- 4:29Decide.
- 4:31Yes, this is series five, show 17, episode
- 4:33number one.
- 4:35That's the granular.
- 4:36The master topic is how people actually take
- 4:38control of their life.
- 4:40Yes, that's what it's about.
- 4:43And you know, whether we're talking about engineering,
- 4:45whether we're talking about being an author, whether
- 4:47we're talking about being a graduate student, it's
- 4:51so great to be here every day and
- 4:53to be able to make some amazing, I'm
- 4:57going to say some amazing things for you
- 5:00guys that can help you grow and, like
- 5:03I said, become a better version of yourself.
- 5:07So I think that's important.
- 5:12And so, you know, I think a lot
- 5:15of people get confused, OK?
- 5:19And the reason they get confused is because,
- 5:24well, they get frustrated.
- 5:28They get stressed, right?
- 5:30I think that's a very, very important thing.
- 5:35And it's real for a lot of people,
- 5:37OK?
- 5:43And that's that's an important thing for, I
- 5:45think, for all of us to be aware
- 5:47of.
- 5:47So tonight, it's all about something subtle, but
- 5:54it's very powerful, guys.
- 5:55What is that that we're talking about tonight?
- 5:58Well, happy to share that with you.
- 5:59And that is not failure.
- 6:02Not success.
- 6:05What are we talking about?
- 6:06Direction, because you see, most people don't wake
- 6:10up one day and decide, bam.
- 6:13Where their life will go.
- 6:17They just sort of stumble into it.
- 6:19And I've said to you guys before, if
- 6:21we fail to plan, then we have planned
- 6:25to fail.
- 6:28Yeah.
- 6:31I think that's an important thing to definitely
- 6:35understand, that these are things that most people
- 6:41don't understand.
- 6:43Most people don't know.
- 6:44Most people just don't really see what's going
- 6:49on.
- 6:50And I think for some people, they want
- 6:54to do the right thing.
- 6:55But then for whatever reason, it's like they
- 6:59get stuck.
- 7:01And again, they get stuck because, again, it's
- 7:06just where they fell in the moment, where
- 7:10they fell in the moment.
- 7:11And that moment is something that a lot
- 7:14of people, well, again, they get stuck in
- 7:20it because they don't understand.
- 7:25And this can get people to want to
- 7:27give up.
- 7:29Does that make sense?
- 7:37And I want to tell you that it's
- 7:43important to become aware of things.
- 7:57And when I say this, it becomes very
- 8:05hard.
- 8:09Very hard because some people just, again, they
- 8:14get stuck.
- 8:16They get stuck into this whole conundrum of
- 8:19how do I do something?
- 8:21Where do I go?
- 8:25And that's a very, very big problem for
- 8:29a lot of people.
- 8:31Where do I go?
- 8:33What am I supposed to do?
- 8:36And again, this gets into a point where
- 8:39a lot of you say to me, John,
- 8:41I don't know where I'm going.
- 8:42I don't know what I'm doing.
- 8:44They slowly drift there.
- 8:46Most people don't choose direction.
- 8:48They just sort of fall into it.
- 8:51Life rarely breaks all that down at once.
- 8:55It shifts quietly through what you allow.
- 8:58Comfort creates slow stagnation.
- 9:00And when nothing feels urgent, nothing truly changes
- 9:03for us.
- 9:04Repetition feels like progress.
- 9:06Movement is not the same as advancement.
- 9:08Routine hides lack of growth.
- 9:11Consistency without intention leads nowhere, folks.
- 9:14Familiar feels safe, not effective.
- 9:18What feels natural is often just what's repeated
- 9:23in a loop or on a habit that
- 9:25we don't know about.
- 9:27Passive habits control outcomes.
- 9:29What you don't guide will guide you.
- 9:32Drift feels normal until it's too late.
- 9:35You rarely notice until the distance is already
- 9:38there.
- 9:39No decision is still a decision.
- 9:42Silence shapes direction just as much as action
- 9:46does.
- 9:47Time amplifies inaction.
- 9:49What you delay becomes more difficult to change,
- 9:52guys.
- 9:54More difficult to change.
- 10:01More difficult to change.
- 10:06That's important.
- 10:12And again, this can be a challenge, okay?
- 10:24And I'll tell you that the challenge comes
- 10:28down to a lot of things, okay?
- 10:36And so I will tell you that for
- 10:39whatever reason, you're gonna get stuck in wherever
- 10:45you are.
- 10:46And it's when you lose sight of things
- 10:50happening, when you lose sight of the awareness,
- 10:53which by the way is a lot about
- 10:54what my book is about, to prevent burnout.
- 10:58Most people think burnout happens like this.
- 11:00It's like, you know, a light just going
- 11:02off.
- 11:02But no, that's not burnout.
- 11:04Burnout is when you get apathy, when you
- 11:06stop wanting to do things just because they
- 11:09suddenly aren't interesting to you, or when you
- 11:11get lazy for something.
- 11:12That's starting signs of burnout.
- 11:15Default behavior creates default results.
- 11:19If nothing changes, neither do your outcomes.
- 11:22People will avoid hard choices, but avoiding decisions
- 11:25creates harder realities.
- 11:28Easy paths create long-term cost.
- 11:31What is simple now often becomes complex later.
- 11:35Comfort delays change, guys.
- 11:38And the absence of discomfort can quietly limit
- 11:40the growth.
- 11:42Yeah, it can quietly limit the growth.
- 11:46And I think that's an important point for
- 11:48a lot of people to understand.
- 11:51To know that people in our world, okay,
- 11:58are doing things, but then they're not really
- 12:01sure about why things are happening.
- 12:03They just know that they're stuck in this
- 12:06stage, okay?
- 12:10And I'll tell you the reason they're stuck.
- 12:13It's because they've gotten so frustrated that they
- 12:16do not know what to do.
- 12:20They don't know what to do.
- 12:22So they blame people.
- 12:26They blame people.
- 12:29And they think that blaming people is gonna
- 12:33solve the problem, create more frustration, distance, and
- 12:39chaos.
- 12:42It's gonna create more of that.
- 12:48And I wanna tell you guys that these
- 12:52things don't happen overnight, okay?
- 12:58They happen by our epiphany, okay?
- 13:04They happen by our epiphany.
- 13:07And that's a very important thing to note,
- 13:11an epiphany.
- 13:16An epiphany that maybe you weren't quite aware
- 13:21of.
- 13:26And maybe that's something that you're saying, John,
- 13:29this doesn't make sense.
- 13:32The reason it doesn't make sense is because
- 13:34you're not looking at things from a wider
- 13:38perspective.
- 13:42You're not.
- 13:44You're looking at things from a different perspective,
- 13:47one where you're closed-minded.
- 13:51Yeah, closed-minded.
- 13:54Closed-minded is something a lot of people
- 13:57don't understand, but yet it keeps them almost
- 14:02tied to a rope.
- 14:03Very similar to the story.
- 14:05Do you guys remember the story?
- 14:06There was a story many years ago about
- 14:08the elephant.
- 14:09It was the elephant tied to a rope
- 14:12when he was little.
- 14:15And then never tried again.
- 14:20It was called the elephant rope moral story.
- 14:24And it goes like this.
- 14:26Once upon a time in a land far
- 14:28away, there lived a baby elephant.
- 14:31Whatever his name is, we can call him
- 14:32Joey.
- 14:34And Joey was strong and smart, but he
- 14:37had a big problem.
- 14:38He believed that he could never break free
- 14:39from a thin rope tied to his leg.
- 14:43When Joey was just a tiny little elephant,
- 14:47his owners tied him to a tree with
- 14:49a thin rope.
- 14:51He tried to break free, but he was
- 14:54too small and not strong enough.
- 14:57And Joey grew up.
- 14:59The rope stayed the same.
- 15:01And Joey never tried to break it again
- 15:03because the thought was impossible.
- 15:10That's important, guys.
- 15:12Our thoughts create our reality.
- 15:17Our reality.
- 15:23That's important, guys.
- 15:26That is so very, very important.
- 15:32Wherever we put our thoughts, okay, wherever we're
- 15:37thinking about, that's where the energy is gonna
- 15:39flow.
- 15:39That's where things are gonna happen in our
- 15:41lives.
- 15:42But there's a lot of you all saying,
- 15:44oh, you know, you can't do this.
- 15:45You can't do that, right?
- 15:48And then you wonder yourself, why are you
- 15:51backed into this corner?
- 15:53A corner that you didn't even know existed
- 15:55before, but suddenly now it's a big problem.
- 16:00It is a very, very big problem.
- 16:03A problem that I think a lot of
- 16:05people just don't understand.
- 16:10And the reason I say this to you
- 16:12is because you put yourself into this place,
- 16:20okay?
- 16:21But you don't know how you got there.
- 16:29You don't know how you got there.
- 16:37And I think the reason that's happening is
- 16:40because you are following other people's advice.
- 16:49You are following other people's advice.
- 16:54And that's interesting, guys.
- 16:57That is so amazing.
- 17:02And I say amazing to you because, again,
- 17:07it's about a concept.
- 17:11It's about something that you believed was true,
- 17:17but it may not be true.
- 17:20It may not be true.
- 17:22But if you live your life thinking that
- 17:24it's gonna be true, right?
- 17:28Then that becomes a slightly problem, a big
- 17:32problem.
- 17:40I think that causes challenge for a lot
- 17:43of people.
- 17:52And maybe you could say to me, John,
- 17:56it makes a difference.
- 17:58It makes a difference for me.
- 18:00It makes a difference for a lot of
- 18:01people.
- 18:04And what is that difference?
- 18:09I think the difference is that we see
- 18:12things in a different light, right?
- 18:15And we don't know where we're going or
- 18:18what we're doing, at least at the moment,
- 18:21like that elephant guys, right?
- 18:23So patterns are gonna keep repeating.
- 18:26And even if we don't know what we're
- 18:29focused on, if we look at our results,
- 18:31that's what we've been thinking about.
- 18:33And without awareness, you cannot change what you
- 18:35do not see.
- 18:37Small neglect compounds.
- 18:39What is ignored today grows immensely tomorrow.
- 18:43Most people never audit their life.
- 18:46I'm not talking about accounting.
- 18:47They continue forward without questioning their direction, their
- 18:51purpose, their core values.
- 18:55Direction is shaped quietly, guys, very quietly.
- 19:00Your life is forming even when you are
- 19:03not paying attention to it.
- 19:07When you're not paying attention to it.
- 19:11I think that's one that often scares people
- 19:15because they don't understand the fact that they
- 19:18can make this change, right?
- 19:22They don't understand that fact.
- 19:23They don't know that the difference between their
- 19:28success and not is the thoughts in their
- 19:32head.
- 19:33Now I'm gonna let you in on a
- 19:35little secret.
- 19:36Even if you start these thoughts today, they're
- 19:38not gonna appear tomorrow.
- 19:40You've gotta keep changing.
- 19:43As long as the patterns change and they
- 19:45stay changed, you will attract success.
- 19:48That's inevitable.
- 19:50But a lot of people I know say,
- 19:50oh, John, I'm not seeing success.
- 19:51I just wanna give up.
- 19:54You wanna give up?
- 19:56Yeah, I've been doing it for how long?
- 19:57Oh, I don't know, a few days, a
- 20:02few days, a few days.
- 20:08Like, really?
- 20:11I don't understand where you're coming from, like
- 20:14where that's even coming from as well.
- 20:20And I think that confuses a lot of
- 20:22people because they think that if they are
- 20:26able to, let's say, persuade their brain to
- 20:33do something that may not be the greatest
- 20:35thing for them, that could be a problem.
- 20:41That could be a serious, serious problem.
- 20:45And so as we think about where we
- 20:48are each day, okay?
- 20:50And we think about these plans and we
- 20:52think about what's happening, it comes down to
- 20:56something very serious.
- 20:58It comes down to our own thoughts.
- 21:01Our thoughts become our reality.
- 21:03You know, guys, drift is slow, but it
- 21:06is so darn powerful.
- 21:07It rarely feels dramatic when it's happening, but
- 21:10it is always active.
- 21:14And a lack of awareness, sustained stagnation, unseen
- 21:18patterns are the hardest things to break.
- 21:22Stability can be an illusion, guys.
- 21:24Stillness is not the same as progress.
- 21:29Nothing breaks until it does.
- 21:32And when it does, it feels, well, catastrophic,
- 21:36sudden, an emergency, but it wasn't.
- 21:40This was breaking all along.
- 21:42I'm gonna give you a per example.
- 21:44I had a chair that I've had for
- 21:45a while.
- 21:46I'm getting a new chair actually soon, but
- 21:48the chair that I had for a while
- 21:49was slowly starting to not hold me up.
- 21:53And for a while, we were trying to
- 21:54fix it.
- 21:54We thought we had it.
- 21:55And today, just before the show, I got
- 21:57on the chair and basically almost fell to
- 21:59the ground, did fall to the ground, held
- 22:01onto the desk a little bit, and I
- 22:03put another chair in its place.
- 22:04But this is what happens, guys.
- 22:07I was aware of it, but it was
- 22:12different, okay?
- 22:17I was aware of it.
- 22:20I was aware of what was going on
- 22:23and why things were going on.
- 22:32I think that causes people to have a
- 22:36difference of opinion, a difference of opinion that
- 22:45can change a lot.
- 22:49It can change where you are today, and
- 22:53it could change where you are tomorrow.
- 23:00But again, that whole concept, that whole piece,
- 23:06I believe is just an illusion for us.
- 23:12It's an illusion, guys.
- 23:15It's an absolute, absolute illusion.
- 23:21And I think those are the kinds of
- 23:23things that get us to realize one thing.
- 23:28You know what that one thing is?
- 23:29That one thing is this.
- 23:32It's that we have to be aware of
- 23:35what is going on in our life 24
- 23:38seven.
- 23:39If we are not aware of these things,
- 23:44life is gonna pass us by.
- 23:53It's gonna pass us by.
- 23:55And I say this to you because I
- 23:56want you to be aware of life.
- 24:01I want you to be aware of possibilities,
- 24:05of opportunities.
- 24:07Passive living, guys, creates regret.
- 24:11Because one day you recognize you never made
- 24:14a choice, and the choice was made for
- 24:17you.
- 24:17You become what you repeat.
- 24:19Identity is built through consistent behavior.
- 24:22Unchecked habits turn control and give it away.
- 24:27What you allow repeatedly becomes permanent in your
- 24:30life.
- 24:32Now, if you change your thoughts, you change
- 24:34your values, guess what?
- 24:35Then you can change those things in your
- 24:37life.
- 24:37You can change them.
- 24:40You can change them.
- 24:42People normalize decline.
- 24:45They adjust instead of improving.
- 24:47Delay reinforces the drift.
- 24:50Time strengthens whatever direction you're already in.
- 24:54The direction you're already in.
- 25:00I think that really puts a big highlight
- 25:05to things.
- 25:09A highlight that says, yes, I can do
- 25:14it, but for some reason I don't do
- 25:16it.
- 25:16Why?
- 25:32And I think that's something that a lot
- 25:34of people don't understand.
- 25:45And that whole concept right there, right?
- 25:49That whole concept right there is the kicker.
- 25:54That is the kicker.
- 25:56That's what brings people to the point.
- 25:59Saying, well, what's going on with me?
- 26:02What's going on with me?
- 26:05Right?
- 26:07And you might think you're doing something wrong,
- 26:09but really you're not doing anything wrong.
- 26:15What you're doing is you're probably getting confused.
- 26:20Right?
- 26:22You're getting confused.
- 26:25And I think that's a big challenge for
- 26:27a lot of people that they get confused,
- 26:31that they don't understand why things are going
- 26:33the way they're going.
- 26:34You know, there's no urgency in a sense
- 26:37for a lot of people.
- 26:38And that equals no change without intention.
- 26:42Intentional people live the life they want.
- 26:46Nothing shifts.
- 26:48Awareness disrupts autopilot.
- 26:51The moment you see clearly, you begin to
- 26:54change like that.
- 26:56Now the whole change doesn't happen overnight, but
- 26:58the change starts to evolve.
- 27:01Change starts when you notice clarity is beginning
- 27:06in your life and you see the control.
- 27:09Most people drift a few, decide.
- 27:11And those who decide redefine everything.
- 27:15This is the shift.
- 27:16You don't need to rebuild your life today.
- 27:19You need to recognize how it's being built.
- 27:22Because the moment you become aware, you create
- 27:26choices.
- 27:27And the moment you create choices, you take
- 27:31control of your life.
- 27:33Not all at once, but intentionally.
- 27:36And I think that's the thing that a
- 27:38lot of people miss.

- 28:04your whole life.

- 28:07game.
