- 1:33Ladies and gentlemen, he has been waiting and we're happy to
- 1:36have him on. We are now talking to former 10
- 1:38year MLB reliever Juan Ricone. Juan, what's up, bro?
- 1:42How are you guys Nice being on your show.
- 1:45Thank you very much. Well, thank you for.
- 1:46Coming the invitation. Well, thank you for coming.
- 1:49I mean, it's it's cool to have you on.
- 1:50I remember you as a pitcher. More on the Twins.
- 1:54I remember you with the Twins. I and you had a problem
- 1:58sometimes against the Yankees. I, I the I'm a Yankee fan so I
- 2:01remember you a lot. And for some reason the Twins
- 2:05can never beat the Yankees in a class ever.
- 2:07I, it's funny because I, I, I got a chance to interview some
- 2:12ex twins in the past and I, I got into what was it?
- 2:17Was it bad juju against the Yankees or just the Yankees were
- 2:20there? I don't what do they call that
- 2:22the kryptonite? I don't know what it was, but I
- 2:25remember you on as a relief pitcher.
- 2:27You are a really good relief pitcher.
- 2:29You just, you had your problems against the Yankees and that's
- 2:31how I remember you. But that's doesn't mean that
- 2:35you're not a great pitcher. You 10 years, almost 10 years in
- 2:38the major leagues, nine years in the majors from 2001 to 2010.
- 2:42That's a pretty good career. And I, it's funny because we're
- 2:46friends with Nick Goody and Nick Goody was a relief pitcher in
- 2:49the majors. He was, I think five years, six
- 2:51years in the majors. And we talked about his time
- 2:54with the Guardians, What was the difference playing in Minnesota
- 2:58and then going to Cleveland. Well, the in Minnesota, I
- 3:02remember we had the Dome. So weather wise we were, we were
- 3:06very spoiled. It was, I think it was at 70°
- 3:10every night, every game. So going to Cleveland then as a,
- 3:15as a player for Cleveland, it was where I play my first
- 3:19doubleheader in the big leagues ever.
- 3:21So it was after, you know, six years in the big leagues, never
- 3:25had to play a doubleheader. First game was supposed to start
- 3:29at 2:00, started at 7:00 PM. The second game started, I think
- 3:33it was at 11:00 PM. It was quite of experience,
- 3:36different experience. It was colder, of course,
- 3:38because it was outside. So I couldn't, you know, it was,
- 3:42it was a little different. Cleveland was way different than
- 3:45Minnesota and that aspect. The WBC was fun to watch.
- 3:49It really was. And watching Venezuela, a team
- 3:53that nobody expected to go to the finals and knock off Japan,
- 3:57knock off Italy that knocked off the United States, and then
- 4:00knock off the United States the way they did.
- 4:02I mean, they completely dominated the United States as
- 4:06far as what we saw with the pitching.
- 4:08And besides Bryce Harper getting the two hits, they completely
- 4:11shut down Team US as lineup, which everybody called the Dream
- 4:15Team. I don't know why because they
- 4:17were definitely a dream. That was a nightmare to watch.
- 4:20So what was it? Why do you think Venezuela
- 4:25played as high such a high such as a high level team throughout
- 4:30this tournament, then teams like Japan and teams like the United
- 4:33States? Well, I don't know.
- 4:35I don't know about the culture in Japan, you know, never been
- 4:37there. I've never played against them
- 4:39or never did. I think that the US takes it
- 4:44well. You know, I got, I got picked
- 4:45to, to go here. So I got to go on representing,
- 4:48you know, something like that. For us, it's totally different.
- 4:53We have gone for the last, I don't know, 26 years through
- 4:57some very, very bad stretches as a as a country.
- 5:01And those guys, they take it very seriously as I'm going to
- 5:07give something back to my country to, to something to
- 5:10celebrate it. It is hard for, for somebody to
- 5:15put it in perspective or to put it into words what he means to
- 5:19us to go out there and listening to our, our, our national anthem
- 5:23and, you know, wearing that, that hat that, I mean, they had
- 5:27the jersey with the, with the Venezuela.
- 5:29You don't play for like the Yankees used to say, you don't
- 5:31play for the name in the, in the back of the jersey.
- 5:34You play for the front of the jersey.
- 5:36So that's, that's the difference with what what I have seen with
- 5:42the US and, and Venezuela, for example, for example, yesterday,
- 5:462 days ago it was I think we play with our horror outs and
- 5:50and that's why we we end up winning.
- 5:52When you look at the team, Suarez is a is a star in the
- 5:55league, he's a great hitter. But if you look at the roster
- 5:58from top to bottom, they don't even compare to Team USA.
- 6:01And then you look at their bench, the management, you have
- 6:03Miguel Cabrera, arguably the greatest right-handed hitter of
- 6:06all time, and there's a pitcher over there who had a nasty
- 6:10change up over there with the Twins.
- 6:12Actually had two change ups. People don't know.
- 6:14You have two different Johan Santana, who is going to be a
- 6:17Hall of Famer. He has.
- 6:19He was one of the best pitchers in the league for about 10 years
- 6:22before he had arm trouble, but this guy was as good.
- 6:24A pitch he was the most dominated pitcher in the 2000
- 6:27early 2000. He was sensational.
- 6:29He really was with the Twins. He was unhittable.
- 6:31I remember the the the one pitcher the Yankees always had
- 6:35problems with. Well, there was 2 Johan Santana
- 6:38and Felix Hernandez. Those were the two guys they had
- 6:41problems with year in and year out.
- 6:43And the one thing I remember Johann Santana was his change
- 6:47up. And yeah, I didn't even know he
- 6:49had two change UPS. But those two guys, Miguel
- 6:52Cabrera and Johann Santana were bench coaches on Venezuela and I
- 6:56think that helped them because you you have two stars, 2 guys
- 6:59that have played at a top level. So what do you think?
- 7:02Do you do you think they had a lot to do with the success?
- 7:05Obviously Miguel Cabrera with the hitting and Johann Santana
- 7:08with the pitching. I think they did.
- 7:10And I tell you it's not because, because they, they gave the,
- 7:13the, you know, the secrets of their career, because I don't
- 7:18think that was a fact. I think the, the reason why it
- 7:21was because those kids, I grew up watching Johann Santana and
- 7:24Miguel Carrera playing. So at some point they say I want
- 7:28to pitch like him. I want to hit like him.
- 7:30So now having them in the clubhouse, in the dugout, it was
- 7:33like a dream come true. I'm going to listen to what this
- 7:35guy has to say. It's not it's our metrics.
- 7:38It's not about spin rate. It's not about none of that crap
- 7:41that they're teaching nowadays. It's about how you compete, how
- 7:44you pitch, how you hit the approach at the plate.
- 7:48Dusty Baker say a few years ago that the computer can, can help
- 7:51you to identify what are the issues, you know, the swim, the,
- 7:57the pitch and all that, but how can you correct it?
- 7:59The computers aren't going to tell you.
- 8:00So that's when you have all these guys with all that
- 8:02experience in the big leagues. He said, Hey, you know, what do
- 8:05you think about this? It's not about your swing, it's
- 8:08about the approach because these guys, they have been there.
- 8:12And that's why I think that it was very important for them to
- 8:15for the for the team to have those guys in the dugout.
- 8:18So I one of the big conflicts going into the World Baseball
- 8:21Classic was the insurance controversy with the Dominican
- 8:24Republic, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and a couple players as well.
- 8:27And a lot of people were saying the US, if they want to make
- 8:29this their type of thing, because Rob Manfred obviously
- 8:32came out on the field and celebrated with Venezuela and
- 8:34graduated them. So they want to make it their
- 8:36type of tournament. Do you think the the Major
- 8:39League Baseball League office has to do more to help those
- 8:41players to make it a better tournament?
- 8:42That can happen with the best stars that are there.
- 8:46I think that they should because the, the, the show, you know,
- 8:50the, the people are paying big money.
- 8:52These tickets were very expensive.
- 8:55I'm here close to, to to Miami. My son got to go to three of
- 8:59those Venezuelan games and they were very, very expensive.
- 9:03So if you're going to pay all those top dollars, you want to
- 9:07go see, you know, the superstores where in your
- 9:10national color. So I think the mayor League
- 9:13Baseball could have done a little bit better, a little bit
- 9:15more to help out those players that they really wanted to play.
- 9:18I don't know what was the situation.
- 9:20Maybe somebody blame it on the insurance in order not to go
- 9:23because they probably were not prepared or you know, when they
- 9:27have some some, you know, undisclosed, you know, soreness
- 9:34or whatever, they don't want to risk it.
- 9:36So, so the the Major League Baseball should have done a
- 9:39little bit better with that. We are talking a former 10 year
- 9:42MLB reliever, Juan Recon pitched from 2001 to 2010 with the Twins
- 9:47and the Guardians, the Tigers, the Rockies, and we're talking
- 9:50about the WBC because a lot of people were shocked the way
- 9:54Venezuela just absolutely dominated Team USA and really
- 9:57was successful throughout this tournament.
- 9:59A lot of people were shocked that they got as far as they
- 10:02got, but they had talent is no question that they did.
- 10:05But they were missing players because of insurance situations.
- 10:08And Team USA, even though they didn't have all their top guns,
- 10:13Tarek Schuble decided to go back with Detroit.
- 10:15Maybe if he pitches in the championship game, maybe it's
- 10:18different, who knows? I mean, Nolan McLean is a good
- 10:21pitcher. Nobody's going to take that
- 10:23away. And I I thought the way
- 10:26Venezuela actually handled Team USA pitching, even Whitlock.
- 10:29Whitlock was one of the best relief pitchers in during the
- 10:32WBC. They hit against him and they
- 10:34walked against him and then Suarez gave him, you know, a run
- 10:37for his money. My question to you, Juan, When
- 10:41you look at this, when you look at this tournament and you look
- 10:45at Team USA, you look at the Dominican Republic, you look at
- 10:48Japan. Those were the three top teams
- 10:51going into this tournament. Well, as Vegas had, USA won,
- 10:55Japan 2, Dominican Republic three.
- 10:57Nobody really looked at Italy. Nobody looked at Venezuela,
- 11:01nobody looked at any of these teams, these these third world
- 11:05countries as they would call them, because nobody, nobody
- 11:08thinks that they have enough talent to win.
- 11:10But they've proven that now in this tournament that it's
- 11:14possible, it's possible for these teams to come out and
- 11:18knock off the, the top teams, the USA, the Japanese, I mean,
- 11:23Cuba, we've seen how good Cuba's been and they're a third world
- 11:26country. They they weren't so good or
- 11:29because of obviously the insurance situation, but for,
- 11:32for years, Cuba's always had a very, very, very, very good
- 11:36team. So is.
- 11:37There. So when Japan, when Japan won
- 11:39the the first time, they went against Cuba, that's true.
- 11:43And they knocked out everybody out and they they, they, you
- 11:46know, they gave Japan a run for their money.
- 11:49It was in the AC. So to your point, yeah.
- 11:51Yeah. And that's that's what kind of
- 11:53turns me off because I think this would be better in the
- 11:57middle of the season because spring training these guys, this
- 12:01is like spring training to these guys.
- 12:03You have Aaron Judge who doesn't really hit really well in spring
- 12:07training. And a lot of these Japanese
- 12:09players, they don't over there in Japan, it's not even spring
- 12:13training now they. They stole.
- 12:16Yeah, so it's like 2 months from now where their season starts.
- 12:20So all these Japanese players, they're not even warmed up.
- 12:23They're pretty much going into a tournament not ready for it.
- 12:26And the same thing with Venezuela.
- 12:28All these guys, you're going to a tournament and I know
- 12:31everybody has to deal with it, but I think it's a big problem.
- 12:34And I think that if you're going to play the WBC knockout, the
- 12:37All Star game, that's my opinion.
- 12:39Nobody cares who hits The Who wins the Home Run Derby or who
- 12:43wins the All Star game. And make this three years the
- 12:46All Star week. That's what I would do with the
- 12:48All Star two weeks. This is what they did with the
- 12:50Olympics for Team USA hockey and and, and, and hockey is they
- 12:57they made sure that there was no All Star game.
- 12:59They made those two weeks for the hockey and the Olympics the
- 13:04All Star game. Why doesn't the WBC do that?
- 13:06If they do that, you're going to see better baseball.
- 13:08Am I right or wrong? Yeah, I think that it it's going
- 13:11to come. John Smoltz was talking about
- 13:14that. They were they about how good it
- 13:17was about 1.21 point eight people that attended to the
- 13:21games. I'm pretty sure that's a bigot
- 13:25attendance that any other star game ever that have ever been
- 13:28played. So rating wise the money, the
- 13:32tickets in the custom in tickets.
- 13:36I think that the revenue is going to be great, $7.5 million.
- 13:41Venezuela is going to is going to pocket from winning the the
- 13:45tournament. I don't know, probably they're
- 13:48going to have to do a good research in order to sell that
- 13:53idea to the to the owners because that you remember that
- 13:59all, every All Star game, the owners, they get money from
- 14:02hosting the the All Star game. So that's going to be a very
- 14:06problematic because you're going to have to do that this series
- 14:10here in Miami, Houston, where the South American countries can
- 14:14come and watch the game. You cannot do this in Seattle,
- 14:18for example, to go play Venezuela in Seattle or go play
- 14:22Venezuela in Kansas City or they are in in Colorado.
- 14:26It's too far for them. They're not going to attract any
- 14:28people. So they got to be very smart
- 14:31with the logistic about it. But I think it could be, it
- 14:34could be very, very good for the for the show, for the baseball.
- 14:38Juan, you're from Venezuela and, and I know a lot of Venezuelan
- 14:44people I've seen all over social media, they all broke down and
- 14:49cried after they won the WBC. Nobody expected this.
- 14:52How did you feel when you got a chance to watch this game and
- 14:55see the final and watch your team, your country raise up and
- 15:01and win that gold medal? What was it like?
- 15:03What did you feel inside? Doing it's, it's hard to put
- 15:06into words in perspective, like I said earlier in the in the
- 15:10show, because, you know, as a country, we have gone through so
- 15:14much. And then at the end of the of
- 15:17the the game, the, the strikeout to, to end the game.
- 15:23And then you see the end, the national anthem being played and
- 15:26you see all those guys. When the third I was watching
- 15:30the game while I was eating and I remember hitting the, the, the
- 15:35the table and say he's done, you know, to my wife.
- 15:38It's unbelievable. I, I had to really there.
- 15:42There has been sometimes that when I, when I watch all the
- 15:46reviews and the country celebrating, he's been hard to
- 15:49hollow to those tears because it's very, he's very touchy.
- 15:54I think the country deserved it, the players deserved it, the
- 15:57fans, everybody was, it was, you know, a dream come true.
- 16:03Ownership gears a little bit. You played with a guy in Joe
- 16:05Mauer who was just recently inducted Hall of Fame catcher.
- 16:08I always thought him and Buster Posey were the two guys that
- 16:11kind of changed the catching position when a lot of those
- 16:13guys were the bigger, bulkier guys.
- 16:14Before that you saw, and maybe not in the older days like guys
- 16:17like Yogi Berra and Johnny Bench, but like a lot of those
- 16:20power hitting catchers and these good really offensive catchers
- 16:22were like that. Now you're seeing those two
- 16:24guys, I think really, one, what was he like as a teammate, you
- 16:27working with him as a relief pitcher and even off the field?
- 16:29And two, do you really think those two guys were the guys
- 16:31that changed the catching position?
- 16:34Well, definitely bosser with that play at the play definitely
- 16:39changed the the contact play with the with the catcher.
- 16:44Even in the in the youth, you know, 12/11/14 whatever, you're
- 16:48not allowed to make contact with the catcher because of both are
- 16:52positive. So he can look back and sit back
- 16:54and said, listen, I did something for for baseball in
- 16:57general, not just in the big leagues.
- 17:00Joe, I always say Joe is it was like a lady dude.
- 17:04That guy is soft, soft spoken guy.
- 17:08Very neat. Yeah, the guy was like struck
- 17:10out. I don't know.
- 17:11I don't ever think that he that he went over for one time, but
- 17:15he was so calm. Well, what there was a time.
- 17:19This is true story, right? There was a time that there was
- 17:22a position player show up late for a stretch and I think that
- 17:26he had done it multiple times. So it was not for me to say
- 17:31anything about that because I was a pitcher, position player.
- 17:35You don't get to get, you don't get to step in anybody's toes.
- 17:38So the guy goes, I say, Joe, what the hell?
- 17:40This guy is showing up late. And the guy goes, well, honey,
- 17:44it's not my career. You know, they're supposed to
- 17:47know. He was always, well, you know,
- 17:48Joe didn't have the numbers to go into the OSR game, into the
- 17:52Hall of Fame. But I'll tell you this, the kid
- 17:54was such a gentleman to the media that he never said no to
- 17:58any interview, any interviews. He never told, you know, get the
- 18:02fuck out of here. I mean, I'm sorry, get out of
- 18:04here. I'm not going to give, I'm not
- 18:06going to say anything to you. I'm not going to talk to you.
- 18:08No, he was always very polite because he understood that was
- 18:12their job, you know, to to write and probably write whether
- 18:16whatever they were thinking about it.
- 18:18And so he was very, always very polite.
- 18:20So those guys are not in the Hall of Fame.
- 18:23And then they should have looked into this guy and say, well, you
- 18:26know, I need to be like this guy if I want to go into the Hall of
- 18:29Fame. He had a tremendous numbers 2000
- 18:33hit as a catcher. I don't know, I think a two or
- 18:36three batting titles, you, you don't get to you don't get to
- 18:41see too many catchers winning a batting title, let alone too.
- 18:45And the guy was such a great guy, great teammate that he
- 18:49deserved to be in the Hall of Fame.
- 18:50So I think I both of them change the the the baseball one way or
- 18:55other. By the way, we are talking a 10
- 18:57year MLB reliever, Juan Recon pitched for from 2001 to 2010
- 19:03with the Twins, the Guardians, the Tigers and the Rockies.
- 19:06You it's so interesting when you watch pitchers and and relief
- 19:09pitchers, some of them have long careers and some of them don't
- 19:13have much of A career. And we Jabba is he's been a big
- 19:17part of this show and Jabba had three years where he was just
- 19:20such a dominant relief pitcher. And then obviously the Yankees
- 19:24with the Jabba rules and they didn't know if he was a starter,
- 19:28didn't know if he was a relief pitcher, and it kind of ruined
- 19:30his career. Eventually his arm went and then
- 19:32he hurt himself on the trampoline and his career was
- 19:35never the same. When you look at the game now
- 19:37with the new rules and and some of the different training
- 19:41facilities that you have, do you think that if you played in the
- 19:45game now, you would add a longer career than you did in the early
- 19:482000s? I think I would have.
- 19:52The way that they're back in my days, it was like, oh, you're a
- 19:55pitcher, go run for 40 minutes, you know?
- 19:59No, no, I'm not kidding. It was, it was just like that.
- 20:04Don't get too strong, you know, don't lift too heavy, you know,
- 20:08things like that. Don't do so many explosive
- 20:12exercises. Now they have all this
- 20:15technology, all these, all these guys training.
- 20:19When I was in the minor, there was one conditioning trainer for
- 20:22the whole minor league system. Now they have even multiple
- 20:26conditioning trainers per per level.
- 20:28They have mental coaches in in English and in Spanish.
- 20:32You know, they have all these, all these equipment gears
- 20:37personal that is it's unbelievable.
- 20:39Now they they are telling you don't throw.
- 20:42Let's say, oh, you know, one, this is the this the what the
- 20:46computer is saying, don't throw your breaking ball when you're
- 20:48hitting the count or and you stick by that and you're going
- 20:52to, you're going to, you're going to be successful.
- 20:55So they're actually telling you what to do and what not to do.
- 20:59And it would be very dumb for you not to freaking do it
- 21:01because the numbers are there. So I think I would have had and
- 21:06I was sad because I think I would have had because I used to
- 21:10throw a cutter. My fastball, I, my 4 sing was a
- 21:12cutter. It was a natural cutter and my
- 21:15slider. So I used to pitch up in the
- 21:17zone a lot. And back in the days I used to
- 21:21teach you throw down in the zone.
- 21:22Now they teach you throw up in the zone because the uppercut
- 21:26swing that they're teaching nowadays, they're not going to
- 21:28be able to catch up to this pitch.
- 21:30So I think that's what I what I would have believed that I would
- 21:35have a longer career. Now also back in my days, I
- 21:40think that I threw in, in four years in a row, I think that I
- 21:44threw 280 something games. Now you don't see that in, in,
- 21:50in, in the game. I started in 2003, I started a
- 21:54year in AAA and spent about a month in the minors and I threw
- 21:58as a long believer 50 something games.
- 22:00And the next year I threw 77 games or something like that.
- 22:04In the next two years, I threw 150 games combined, 777575.
- 22:10You don't see that anymore, you know, in the game.
- 22:14And, and I think and also something that they're doing
- 22:18nowadays that they're bringing you up throughout the minority
- 22:22system a little quicker. When you look at my numbers,
- 22:26before I established myself in big leaks in 2003, I probably
- 22:31had 700 innings in the minors and I dominated the minor
- 22:35leagues. So now they're no wasting time.
- 22:38Your prime in the minors. He say, well, you know, this guy
- 22:41had three 300 a year, 300 innings in the big leagues and
- 22:46and the minors bring him up. They're reading.
- 22:48The Twins already knew that I was going to be a reliever
- 22:51there. There's a funny story because I
- 22:53was in AAA in Edmonton with Santana in 2002 and they had him
- 23:00in the bullpen and they had me starting think about how wrong
- 23:03they had it right. So then I gave up a lot of runs
- 23:08in one game and he came up and he relieved me and then the next
- 23:11out and they go, listen, we're going to switch.
- 23:14You know, we've been talking about you being a reliever since
- 23:17you were in double AI. Don't know why they keep you
- 23:21starting. So if they knew in AA, why are
- 23:23you going to make me go back to AAA and to throw 100 innings
- 23:27again before you give me a shot when I have thrown 40, I mean,
- 23:33A400500 innings already in, in the minor league.
- 23:36So the the baseball has changed because they haven't identified
- 23:40the fact that they're wasting all these bullets in the minors.
- 23:44You know, bring him up. He's that's why you seen 1920
- 23:47year old guys in the big leagues already, because they don't want
- 23:50to waste their time in the minors.
- 23:53They should or their prime. You should have been the Mets.
- 23:56You should have been the Mets trainer.
- 23:57You could have tell Noah Synergard not to do all those
- 23:59extra workouts to get himself to 230 lbs and then mess up his
- 24:02everything. I'm telling you, look at just
- 24:05look at back in my days, you know, Brad Rocky, Gonna, Mike
- 24:09Musina, Andy Pettit, the the only big guy that he stood up
- 24:15for me was a Royer Clements. But even Roy Holiday there was a
- 24:19workhorse. He wasn't that strong.
- 24:21He was that he was obviously he was strong, don't get me wrong.
- 24:24But it's not like the guys that you seen nowadays that they look
- 24:27like freaking bodybuilders and they only last.
- 24:30Well, he's throwing 100. Yeah, but he's going to break
- 24:32down in three years because these guys just in Verlander,
- 24:37Kershaw, you know, they're, they're not that is strong.
- 24:41And they were able to throw 10 years, 12 years, 15 years in the
- 24:46big leagues. Now these guys are getting way
- 24:48too strong. They're not doing that much of
- 24:50running. They're doing a lot of lifting.
- 24:53That's where I think they're breaking down more often.
- 24:58It is crazy when I watch the game of baseball and people
- 25:01forget that baseball was in a strike time in the 90s and now
- 25:06we're going into a another strike in 2027.
- 25:11There could be a full season of no baseball.
- 25:13And going into this this season, watching the WBC and, and
- 25:17getting a chance to see all this stuff happen in the offseason
- 25:21and, and the deferred money, Tucker goes, Kyle Tucker goes to
- 25:25the the the Dodgers. When you look at the game now,
- 25:28when you look at the game now, Juan, and, and you want, and a
- 25:32lot of players are questioning what the Dodgers, I mean, what
- 25:34the Dodgers are doing. Do you think that this is going
- 25:37to affect next year's strike? Do you believe that this could
- 25:41go on for a full season? And no baseball because of what
- 25:44we've seen with the Dodgers and how the Dodgers have taken this
- 25:48deferred money, which has been around for a long, long time,
- 25:50But they've used it to their advantage where they've built a
- 25:54super team, which has hurt the game.
- 25:56And everybody says this is the Yankees.
- 25:58Oh, this was the Yankees in the 90s.
- 25:59It wasn't the Yankees in the 90's.
- 26:01The Yankees built through a prime of young players.
- 26:04And then they took veteran guys like Wade Box or Charlie Hayes
- 26:07or Scott Brosius or Tino Martinez or Paul O'Neill and
- 26:11they mashed them together with youth and, and started to become
- 26:14a dynasty. This is not a a team that had
- 26:18young players and then they're putting veteran players with
- 26:21them. This is all superstar players.
- 26:23Friedman superstar, Mookie Betts superstar, Ohtani superstar, all
- 26:28this Snell superstar, Glass now superstar.
- 26:31All these guys are superstar players from their respectable
- 26:34teams. And everybody says, well, the
- 26:35Yankees did it, so I guess it's OK.
- 26:38What do you think about what the Dodgers have done to baseball?
- 26:41So I'm going to ask you, you're asking me a question.
- 26:44I'm going to ask you a question or, or a few questions.
- 26:47Mookie Betts, where did he play before going to the Dodgers?
- 26:51Boston. And why did he got traded?
- 26:52Well. He didn't get traded.
- 26:54He signed with the Dodgers. Well, but he signed with the
- 26:57Dodgers because Possum didn't want to give him money, right?
- 27:01OK, what about Tyler Glass now? That was Tampa.
- 27:06OK, Tampa. What happened?
- 27:07He went to Pittsburgh to to Tampa, right in a trade, and
- 27:10then Tampa didn't want to pay him.
- 27:12Whatever. So the Dodgers came.
- 27:14Let's come over here. I'm going to pay you.
- 27:16You know, he's always hurt or whatever.
- 27:19What's our guy? OK, what about the first baseman
- 27:24for, for, for them that used to play Freeman, that they
- 27:29miscommunication with the GM, with the agent, whatever it was.
- 27:33But I think that the Braves took a little longer to offer him
- 27:36something. Am I right or wrong?
- 27:38So you can really punish a team that is willing to invest in all
- 27:44these superstars that these other teams are being cheap
- 27:47about it. You see what I'm saying?
- 27:50Well, I, I mean, I, I, you could look at it that way or you could
- 27:54look at it this way and I look at it completely different.
- 27:57Yes, they gave Mookie Betts $300 million.
- 28:00Yes, they gave Friedman 100 and something, $1,000,000 money that
- 28:05he wanted. But what they did is they use
- 28:08that deferred money and they say, you know what, We don't
- 28:10have to pay Mookie Betts the whole 300 million.
- 28:13We'll cut it in half and pay him that in increments for the next
- 28:1612 years and we don't have to worry about it.
- 28:18And Otani, Otani decided to go to the Dodgers.
- 28:22They gave him a $70 million a year contract.
- 28:25They gave him a lot of money and but they're only paying him 2
- 28:29million a year and he's not going to see that money until 12
- 28:31years down the road. To me, they have spun the wheel
- 28:36and make the deal and that's what they're doing.
- 28:38They're we're going to buy our way to a championship.
- 28:41We're going to build this where we're going to win multiple
- 28:44championships. And then whenever we're done
- 28:47dominating baseball, we'll sell the team and whoever takes over
- 28:50this team is going to pay those guys in the future.
- 28:52To me, that affects the game And and now you're going to see
- 28:56going into the offseason, they're going to be talking
- 28:59about a salary cap because I know everybody says there's no
- 29:03way that baseball union is going to allow that.
- 29:05But what happened this offseason?
- 29:07Who's running the baseball union now?
- 29:09We don't even know. So I mean.
- 29:12That was that. That was a shit show.
- 29:15Clark is Clark's gone. So now you had the guy that was
- 29:18the face of the players in the players union.
- 29:22Now you're bringing a new guy that by the way, the players are
- 29:24pretty much he's a puppet to the players.
- 29:27How is this going to work when you're sitting in front of the
- 29:29owners, you're sitting in front of the commissioner, and you're
- 29:32trying to figure out how this deferred money has affected the
- 29:35game? And by the way, how are we going
- 29:37to go into another season with all this money going to these
- 29:40players where we're going to have a billion dollar player in
- 29:43a year time or in two years time because we saw Juan Soto just
- 29:46get $68,000,000 a year with the Mets.
- 29:49We know that. We know that.
- 29:51Hey, look, Bo Bo Bashet just got $48 million from the New York
- 29:56Mets to play third base when he's ever played third base in
- 29:59his career. I mean, the money is ridiculous
- 30:02and eventually something needs to be done.
- 30:04And I know a lot of people don't want to believe it, but it's
- 30:07coming. There has to be a cap.
- 30:10I don't think that there will be a cap and I'll tell you why,
- 30:13because people are coming to watch the game.
- 30:16They're coming to watch the players.
- 30:18The owners are making money. If if I can pay you 60 million
- 30:24dollars, $40 million, it means that I'm making a billion
- 30:27dollar. It means that I'm going to be
- 30:29selling, you know, $1,000,000 worth of merchandise with your
- 30:33name, just just only your name. I know that I'm going to be
- 30:36that's that's all being all study.
- 30:38What I think it will help the the whole situation is that they
- 30:43get a floor salary floor from the from the owners.
- 30:47You know, you can know, have the the mornings, for example, they
- 30:51have Ozuna, they have Stanton, they have a rise, they have
- 30:57these solar guys. And what they have done, they
- 30:58have trade them away because they want to keep a $40 million
- 31:04team. And you know, people just come,
- 31:07they watch and they get the advertisement where they get the
- 31:10money from. They're not worried about
- 31:11winning. They're not worried about making
- 31:13money with the with the fans, with the tickets.
- 31:16Look at how packed the stadium was here in Miami.
- 31:18It was 43,000 people. I don't know how many people
- 31:21they, they, they got, they got there.
- 31:23The, the tickets were about $2500 per ticket and that thing
- 31:28was freaking sold out. What happens?
- 31:30The mornings are not investing the money.
- 31:31It's just to say the mornings, the daughters did what they did.
- 31:35Everybody knew what they were doing.
- 31:37Everybody. It's not like they reinvented
- 31:38the wheel. Everybody knew that they were
- 31:40paying the money, just like the the Mets did with Bobby Bonilla
- 31:44with $1,000,000.10. It's always been there.
- 31:47So now they were probably smarter than the other 2019
- 31:50probably were. But they they identify how they
- 31:54can bring people in. They went at it, they're
- 31:57winning. But then you have the Marlins,
- 31:59Kansas City, they have the Pittsburgh, they have the second
- 32:02best or third best ERA. And what they did, they fire the
- 32:05pitching coach, you know, So there there has to be some
- 32:11repercussion for your team not being competitive.
- 32:15We got to drop the house if you. If you're paying, if the
- 32:20daughters are paying, if the Mets are paying all these guys,
- 32:23it means that they're, the owners are making money.
- 32:27They're not broke. They say, well, attendance is
- 32:30slow. You don't make money from
- 32:32attendance. You make money from
- 32:33advertisement, TV deals, baseball cards, you know, the,
- 32:38all the, the, the, the money that people pay for the, all the
- 32:45things that they, they, they're sold to collectible things.
- 32:48You know, all the stuff, collectible items.
- 32:49So collectible items, it's one of the biggest business right
- 32:54now in, in, in the US they, they collectible things.
- 32:57So when when you look back and say why are we going to get a
- 33:01salary cap when the owners are making all this money, If you're
- 33:05paying all this guys all that money, it means that you have
- 33:07the money. Otherwise, you want to be able
- 33:09to afford them. See what I'm saying?
- 33:11I got what you're saying. I to me, I don't care about the
- 33:14owners. I care about me as a fan.
- 33:16I don't want to see the Dodgers win every single year because
- 33:18they're buying their way to a championship.
- 33:20Nobody wants to see that. And everybody says, well, George
- 33:23Steinbrenner did that. George Steinbrenner did.
- 33:25And it wasn't even George. It was how that did it.
- 33:28How was the one that bought that that championship in 2009 with
- 33:32CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett and Mark to share because he wanted
- 33:35his father to see that championship in the new Yankee
- 33:38Stadium before he passed away because he he was very sick.
- 33:41But the Yankees really have kind of swayed away from that.
- 33:44They're paying their players, but they're not the highest as
- 33:47far as salary caps. I think the Yankees are like 4th
- 33:50or 5th right now in baseball. They're not.
- 33:52Yeah, the dollars are first. Think of the Mets and then.
- 33:55Toronto. I mean, the Yankees are not
- 33:58really up there anymore in the top three and the Yankees are
- 34:01still a really good team. I, I think the problem right
- 34:04now, and I think you're right, these teams need a floor and I
- 34:07want to see competition. Why are the Dodgers just going
- 34:11all the way? And, and, and I'm not saying
- 34:13that the Dodgers couldn't have lost the World Series.
- 34:15They they almost did, but because of their talent.
- 34:18They were They were two inches, 3 inches away from.
- 34:21Losing, but they, because of their talent and because of all
- 34:26the specific positions that they have that really the Blue Jays
- 34:30didn't have or anybody they matched up against didn't have.
- 34:33They had an advantage going into that game.
- 34:35Now, the United States had an advantage going into the
- 34:38Venezuela game. the United States had an advantage against
- 34:41practically every team that plays.
- 34:42So did Japan, so did Dominican Republic.
- 34:45And that doesn't always happen. But if you look at percentages
- 34:48and one you as a baseball player, it's all about
- 34:51statistics, stats, stats. Numbers don't.
- 34:54Lie. Numbers don't lie.
- 34:55If you look at the numbers here, the chances of the Dodgers not
- 35:00winning is probably no less than 60%, no less than 60% because of
- 35:07the talent that they have. And that to me is scary if
- 35:10you're a baseball fan. Why do I want to watch the
- 35:12Dodgers win every single year? Because they're buying their way
- 35:15to a championship. I have no interest in watching
- 35:17it. So.
- 35:17And everybody says, whoa, was the highest watched game or
- 35:21highest watched series in in in a long, long time.
- 35:24Yeah, because it was the Blue Jays.
- 35:25The Blue Jays haven't been. There since the night.
- 35:28Yeah, it's Toronto. It's the whole country.
- 35:30Yeah, by watching the game. Yeah.
- 35:32And then Japan, you have and Japan.
- 35:34And you have you also, and you have California, that is one of
- 35:37the most populated cities in the world.
- 35:39Japan, that's what it was. It was Otani Sasaki and all
- 35:43those other guys. It was all about yeah.
- 35:46It was about those three guys. Yeah, it was.
- 35:48It was all about. Japan, you have Korea as well,
- 35:51so yeah. I mean, come on, that gets you
- 35:53sick to your stomach, so. Yeah, but I think how you can
- 35:56balance that. For example, how good would have
- 35:59been the Marlins having all those A guys?
- 36:02I think it was that they traded away for nothing, right?
- 36:06Just tell me what the Marlins got from the Stanton trade.
- 36:09They got nothing. Nothing.
- 36:12You see what I'm saying? When they traded away the bear,
- 36:15what's his name, the left fielder.
- 36:17They went to the Braves. Ozuna.
- 36:19Ozuna. Ozuna, why did they just name me
- 36:21one guy that out of that trade they got nothing, nothing.
- 36:25So why did they trade them away? Because of money.
- 36:27So when you start penalizing those teams, listen, you got to
- 36:31spend $40 million, You can not have a a budget of $38 million
- 36:39nowadays when they have the freaking dyers in five hundred,
- 36:43$600 million, stupid, you're not going to be able to compete.
- 36:46But for them, it's about to make money.
- 36:49It's not about competing. And for a Stein brainer, it was
- 36:52about competing. You see what I'm saying?
- 36:55That's the difference of mentality.
- 36:57The dyers, they want to compete, they're going to get their money
- 36:59back. San Diego has done the same
- 37:01thing. Nobody talks about that because
- 37:03they haven't. They haven't win.
- 37:04See what I'm saying? I got it.
- 37:06So. I got it.
- 37:06I just think the Dodgers already made their money back have.
- 37:10Yeah, they made their money back for sure.
- 37:12How did they make their money back?
- 37:13Winning, yeah, But winning? Yeah.
- 37:16Well. Winning.
- 37:17You, you, you go to Kansas City. When they were winning, what did
- 37:21they do? They packed the stadium every
- 37:24single day back in the day. The Angels that they sold, they
- 37:28were sold out for I don't know how many years in a row because
- 37:32they have a competitive team. You put competitive teams on the
- 37:35field and the fans are going to show, you know, But when you
- 37:39have those low market teams that they're not put in any effort to
- 37:43bring better teams, you know, it's easy to point fingers.
- 37:48You know, Oh, well, the daughters are winning because,
- 37:50well, you can do the same thing. Maybe not in in such a big
- 37:52scale, but you can put a competitive team on the field.
- 37:56That's what I'm saying. So I think that the the salary
- 37:59cap as a former player will hurt the game.
- 38:01I got it. I got it.
- 38:03Juan. I I.
- 38:04Know we're looking at, I don't know, I don't know if if this is
- 38:08true, but every year in spring training the the player
- 38:13associations comes to talk to every single team and it's about
- 38:173 hour meeting. It's a long meeting, but they go
- 38:20into every single detail conversations.
- 38:24What's he looking like? It's it's unbelievable.
- 38:27And Donald Fair, when Donald Fair was the the the president
- 38:32of the player association. That to me is the best that I
- 38:35have seen. Well spoken guy, very, very
- 38:39smart. He would have be very detail
- 38:43orientated. He went to hockey, hockey back
- 38:47in the days he had a salary cap and the salary cap in my
- 38:51understanding, you know, don't, don't kill me.
- 38:53I don't know. This is this is what I I'm going
- 38:55to sell it at face value. OK, So if if your team, the
- 39:01salary cap was $40 million and your team was at 38, for
- 39:04example, and they would have ran halfway through the season, a
- 39:08guy making $10 million, the $5,000,000 remain in the in the
- 39:13country in the, in the contract, the three because you were at 38
- 39:17to get to 40, the $3,000,000 was going to be paid by the players.
- 39:21They were going to take a cut from their salary to pay for
- 39:26that. The players didn't get any
- 39:28revenues for from TV, from tickets for nothing.
- 39:32And that's why they went to strike.
- 39:34That was when done off fair. I don't know, 15 years ago, I
- 39:37don't remember how long it was. And what do they do now?
- 39:41Now they have one of the best contracts, one of the the the
- 39:45best salary because you go watch a game.
- 39:48I'm I don't, I don't watch hockey, but every time that I
- 39:51watch a game, the freaking arena is packed, you know, and
- 39:55everybody's getting their money. You don't hear about strikes or
- 39:58anything like that, but players, I mean, the Major League
- 40:01Baseball is always wanted to control that, that the salary
- 40:06cap because they would control the game and that's what they
- 40:10want. I don't think that is going to.
- 40:12Is going to help the game at all?
- 40:13Well, I just want to let. You again, this is That's my
- 40:17understanding about. I'm just going to let you know,
- 40:20hockey only the most you can pack out in a stadium I think is
- 40:2416,000. They don't pack out.
- 40:26Yeah, they're not big. They're not big and but the
- 40:28salaries are not compare comparable to the baseball
- 40:31salaries. No.
- 40:32And they play a third of what they play in the big leagues as
- 40:35well. Juan, they're getting up there.
- 40:37I mean, the highest paid play right now in the NHL is making
- 40:40$20 million. I mean, that's for Edmonton.
- 40:43He's the best player in the world.
- 40:44Just letting you know. But it's interesting.
- 40:46Connor McDavid, He's making 2020, 1,000,020. 20, He plays in
- 40:50Edmonton. Edmonton, yes.
- 40:52I play, I play in Edmonton one year.
- 40:54Coldest place on earth. I mean next Minnesota.
- 40:58Feel like a freaking beach trip? I love.
- 41:05It shorts. I love it.
- 41:06I love the cold. Say that again.
- 41:07I love the cold. No, I listen.
- 41:09I love the cold, but no one I have to stand up there for 8
- 41:12hours. I got you, I got you.
- 41:14But we were outside on a football field and it was, it
- 41:16was like 30° and my feet were cold because you're not moving
- 41:20around and, and, and you start to get frozen.
- 41:22That kills you? Yeah, it kills you.
- 41:24As a pitcher especially, you're on a mound and you're going to
- 41:26throw. It's definitely cold.
- 41:28But Juan, we got to get you back on the show.
- 41:30You're fantastic and you're. Thank you.
- 41:33And we go back and forth and I agree with a lot of things you
- 41:35said, but the deferred money, I beg to differ.
- 41:37We got to maybe we'll talk off air one of these days.
- 41:40I I think that. Yeah, that's fine.
- 41:42Absolutely. But I, but again, I, I, I don't
- 41:44think that it will as a, as a former player, I don't think
- 41:46that it will help the I'm always going to cheer for the players.
- 41:50I know, I know you will. A lot of the players will so.
- 41:53Yeah, but I don't think that it will help the the game because
- 41:57then the the owners are going to pocket all the money I got.
- 41:59You and. People are not coming to watch.
- 42:02The owners are coming to watch. The old time is, you know, you
- 42:06cannot even name the name the owner of Pittsburgh.
- 42:09No top of your head, but I can bet you that you can name the
- 42:12best picture on that rotation. Yeah, Paul skins.
- 42:16Paul skins, do you see what I'm saying?
- 42:18So, so and I bet. You that you can.
- 42:21Name that You can name the the best hockey player for Edmonton,
- 42:27but you don't know the owner. Yeah, I guess you're right.
- 42:30I mean, the owners don't want to be known.
- 42:31They just want to make their money.
- 42:33But I got what you said. They want to make their money,
- 42:34yeah, but they stay behind the scenes and they want to make
- 42:38their businessman. Some of them are just one.
- 42:43They're used to make money, and that's it.
- 42:45And that's pretty understandable.
- 42:46But we're going to have a salary cap.
- 42:49They got to be a full cap as well.
- 42:50I agree with you. I agree with that, but I we'll
- 42:53see what happens. But we, we appreciate you
- 42:55joining us and. But I think that's going to be a
- 42:57strike, to be honest. Yes, I think, I don't, I don't
- 42:59think that we gonna, we as as players or or we as fans are
- 43:04going to be able to escape that. I, I absolutely agree with you
- 43:08and I'm, I'm interested to see what Rob Manfred or Manfred as,
- 43:14as a man fool as we call a man fool on this show, how that's
- 43:19going to work with that guy leading the way as the
- 43:22commissioner of baseball. So that's just my opinion, but.
- 43:25Yeah, it's going to be, it's going to be interesting because
- 43:27now the head of the player association, they, they, they,
- 43:32they hear whatever is so stupid what he was doing or he was
- 43:36allegedly doing, because I don't, you know, I wasn't even
- 43:39there to know for real what he was doing.
- 43:41Well, not just say he was sleeping with his sister-in-law.
- 43:43We know what he was doing, he was having.
- 43:45Fun. I actually forgot about that
- 43:47because I was talking about the money that he was, that he was
- 43:51paying his bossing or whatever. I mean so stupid man.
- 43:55He was in the play association. He was flopping.
- 43:58His Think about this man. He was flopping his yes, yeah,
- 44:00think about this. The player association is the
- 44:03strongest union in the world, the baseball player association,
- 44:07because you know, the the lowest income of a guy is what,
- 44:13$700,000 Yes. And you have 7, I don't know how
- 44:18many people, 800 people in the, in the manual League Baseball
- 44:21any given day and you have guys making $60 million or the the
- 44:26lowest pay salary is $700,000 that that unit has a lot of
- 44:31power. It sounds like it, Juan.
- 44:34We love you. Keep up the good work.
- 44:36We'll talk to you soon. OK, guys.
- 44:39Nice, nice being here. Thank you for the invitation.
- 44:42Julie, we love it. We love it.
- 44:43You're great. You're sensational.
- 44:45You know your baseball. We definitely got to get you
- 44:47back on the show. We'll talk to you soon, my
- 44:48friend. Sounds good, let me know.
- 44:50Juan Recon, ladies and gentlemen.
- 44:52And let me tell you something. The knowledge that this man has,
- 44:56he he knows the baseball union, we can go back and forth.
- 44:59There are things that I, I can argue with some of his takes,
- 45:03but he knows because he's been a part of the game and he's been a
- 45:06part of the association. But it it, it's kind of, it's
- 45:09kind of interesting how baseball has allowed the Dodgers to get
- 45:14away with what they've gotten away with.
- 45:15And a lot of Dodger fans can't stand the way I attacked them.
- 45:18But here's the facts. The Dodgers are an organization
- 45:22that will continue doing this if they they don't do something
- 45:26about it. And it has nothing to do with
- 45:28the owners making money. I could care less what the
- 45:30owners make, but as a fan and I want to go watch competitive
- 45:34baseball, that's not fair. That's not fair to watch this
- 45:38team and Kyle Tucker to a roster that has Shayo Itani Friedman
- 45:43bets a pitching staff. That's ridiculous.
- 45:47I I mean it's and I dude, they have Muncie.
- 45:50They've got so many great players on that roster.
- 45:53It makes you sick to your stomach.
- 45:54So that's my argument to it. But hey, listen, it's in the
- 45:58rule. I mean it's not in the rule book
- 46:00that you can't do this. And that's why I think baseball
- 46:02needs to do something about it during the strike.
- 46:05All right, ladies and gentlemen, we call this all righty then.
- 46:10All righty then. All righty.
- 46:15All righty, All righty. All righty, then welcome back to
- 46:20our literary segment. All righty then we're going to
- 46:24take a look at one of Errol's articles on
- 46:27worldwidesportsradio.com. Awesome article on the
- 46:30worldwidesportsradio.com. Here it is.
- 46:33Take a look on the screen if you're watching with us and if
- 46:36you don't have this on video, which is completely fine.
- 46:40A lot of us are on audio on Apple.
- 46:41And as of today, as you know, we are ranked number 75 out of all
- 46:46football podcasts on Apple Podcasts in America, which is
- 46:51our fourth straight day in the top. 100 I just want to tell all
- 46:53the fans everybody asked me why are we under football when we're
- 46:56an all valued rated show when it comes to sports and here's the
- 47:01facts. There are more football podcasts
- 47:04on Spotify and Apple than any other sport and we wanted to
- 47:07compete against the top football shows to see where we lie with
- 47:12all those statistical shows. So and, and to to say that that
- 47:17we're ranked seventy 72nd, 75th, 75th out of over 18,000 podcasts
- 47:25around the country that have the money behind them and the
- 47:27networks behind them says a lot about what we are and what we're
- 47:30doing right now. So go ahead.
- 47:32Yeah, so here it is. Pinstripes, power and pure
- 47:35chaos. Which damn Yankees team was
- 47:38actually the greatest ever? We have these articles up on
- 47:42Reddit. There's a lot of comments.
- 47:43Speed is going to go through some of these comments after I
- 47:46read you guys an excerpt. And again, if you're only
- 47:49listening to listen audio, you can catch us on video, I believe
- 47:52both on Apple and Spotify. A lot of Spotify viewers on
- 47:56subscription already. All right, here we go.
- 47:59Before we dive into the greatest teams in the history of the New
- 48:03York Yankees, we need to address the elephant in the Bronx, the
- 48:06championship drought. The Yankees used to win so often
- 48:09that the rest of Major League Baseball basically felt like
- 48:12extras in the Yankees documentary.
- 48:14But since the champagne showers of the 2009 World Series, things
- 48:19have been a little dry. And by dry, I mean the kind of
- 48:22drought that has Yankee fans pacing around the Bronx like
- 48:25caffeinated pigeons, wondering if October is still on the
- 48:28calendar. But before we crown the greatest
- 48:30Yankees team ever, we need to look back through the decades of
- 48:33dominance, chaos, superstars and enough Hall of Farmers to fill
- 48:37half of Cooperstown. The 1930s Yankees Murderer's Row
- 48:42reloaded key players. Joe DiMaggio.
- 48:46Bill Dickey. Red Ruffin, Joe Gordon Manager
- 48:49Joe McCarthy 1939 Yankees won 106 games, swept the World
- 48:53Series. Like they were late for dinner
- 48:55reservations. Other teams had stars.
- 48:58These Yankees had a solar system. 1950s Yankees Baseball's
- 49:03royal family Key players Mickey Mantle Yogi Barrow Whitey Ford
- 49:06Roger Maris Manager Casey Stengel 7778 They Bronze Zoo and
- 49:14as you keep going 1980s Yankees great players no rings late 90s
- 49:18Yankees the baseball Death Star ranking the greatest Yankees
- 49:23team ever. Here it is.
- 49:25Yankees 1998 Baseball perfection #1 number 21939 Yankees
- 49:32overwhelming dominus number 31953 Yankees five straight
- 49:36championships or 1977 talent chaos and five 2009 The last
- 49:43championship team the greatest Yankees team ever assembled.
- 49:47The 1998 Yankees Debating the greatest Yankees team, however,
- 49:53is like arguing which Lamborghini is the fastest.
- 49:57All right, so a mixed bag here of agreements and disagreements.
- 50:01We'll start with one that was kind of a split.
- 50:03This is traditional half 842-1927 or 1939, he says.
- 50:08You can't really compare the free agency era to the stock
- 50:11roster as an old when you have to home grow it. 1927 Yankees at
- 50:14872 OPS as a team and AW 2125 WRC plus.
- 50:18But the pitching staff was better in 1939, especially after
- 50:21losing, obviously, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.
- 50:24Very, very interesting and and I agree, thank you traditional for
- 50:27giving us your take. And it's interesting when you
- 50:30look at 1927 or 1939 and try to compare both teams and, and now
- 50:34looking at the statistics and you say, well, you can't look at
- 50:37that, but then you bring up the statistics.
- 50:40That's, that's the thing. And then the transition of the
- 50:42game and now adding war and, and all these statistics, you, you
- 50:46can actually look at those teams and compare those teams to now
- 50:50the new age teams because of all the statistics and, and what the
- 50:54analytics are showing you now. I I still think the 98 Yankee
- 50:58team is the best team. They won more games and even
- 51:02though they didn't have the stars that the 1927 Yankees and
- 51:05the 1939 Yankees add, there were just more consistent than those
- 51:09teams. So that's why I went with the
- 51:111998 Yankees. All right, so this one agreed
- 51:14with you. Grissom Stash says 1998 125 and
- 51:1850 total record, including the post season and sweeping the
- 51:20Padres in the World Series. And the Padres weren't a good
- 51:23team. I mean, Cam Caminiti was their
- 51:25best player. That's kind of why I brought it
- 51:27up. Yeah, and and May, rest in
- 51:29peace. Cam was on steroids and a lot of
- 51:31people say the steroids. That was when it's the steroids
- 51:35time was at its worst. But here's the facts.
- 51:40It didn't matter who they played in the World Series.
- 51:42The Yankees were going to kill him.
- 51:43They were just so good. Their pitching staff, their
- 51:45bullpen, if you look at their pitching staff, it was
- 51:48ridiculous. They had David Wells, they had
- 51:50Rodger Clemens. I mean, they, they're, they were
- 51:53stacked from top to about Andy Pettitte.
- 51:56I mean, this was one of the best pitching Staffs ever assembled.
- 51:59And if you look at their bullpen, they were pretty damn
- 52:01good too. So I, I mean, they had Mariano
- 52:04Rivera as their clothes. I mean, it was ridiculous.
- 52:06So my fact, here's the facts. The 98 Yankees were so dominant
- 52:11and and so good, it didn't matter who was hitting ninth or
- 52:15who was hitting first. So I absolutely agree agree with
- 52:18you Grissom, and I agree with you. 98 Yankees were the best
- 52:22Yankee team of all time. All.
- 52:23Right. Next one is Chiquita.
- 52:24OK, 85, he says. Easily 1927.
- 52:27There's a reason they got the nickname Murderer's Row.
- 52:29Chiquita, thank you for your take, and I agree.
- 52:32I agree with you. A murderer's row was
- 52:34sensational. Think about the talent that they
- 52:37had Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig. I mean, wasn't that murders Row?
- 52:41Everybody talks about how those two players, I mean, Babe Ruth
- 52:46was the greatest, I believe the greatest baseball player of all
- 52:48time. And Lou Gehrig 3000 games in a
- 52:52row, I mean, he was as good a hitter as Babe Ruth was.
- 52:55And when you look at that lineup, it was stacked from top
- 52:58to bottom. So I agree with you.
- 53:00That was I mean, they had the most stars and they had the
- 53:02biggest. Actually, I don't even know if
- 53:04they had the most stars. I think the a little bit later
- 53:07with Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Whitey Ford, those,
- 53:11I mean, those teams had a lot of stars too.
- 53:13So but that that roster in in the middle of, you know, in the
- 53:18middle of that lineup having Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, I
- 53:20mean, you can argue any one of these teams would fit there as
- 53:24#1 but again, the 98 Yankees 120 and 50 throughout the the
- 53:29regular season, the playoffs, no Yankee teams ever done that.
- 53:32And it's talk, talk about hitting superstars.
- 53:36Who was their best hitter of that year?
- 53:38Really, Who was their best hitter?
- 53:40Bernie Williams? Paul O'Neill?
- 53:44I mean, are they Hall of Farmers?
- 53:46They're not, I'm just saying. Now that's how, especially how
- 53:50stingy the Baseball Hall of Fame.
- 53:51So Don Manningly, those guys aren't getting in.
- 53:53All right, let's go to the next one.
- 53:54Kaiser Soze 961939 was the most impressive championship team
- 53:59after losing Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, but Murders Row still
- 54:01the best overall. Again, Lou Gehrig, and thank you
- 54:06to Kaiser. Thank you for your take on that
- 54:081939 Yankees were a great team. They were great.
- 54:14And the 1927 Yankees murders row.
- 54:17Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth were sensational players.
- 54:21They're two of the best, two of the greatest hitters of all
- 54:24time, not just in that era of all time, but, and 1939 was good
- 54:30and, and the 1950 Yankees were really, really good too.
- 54:33And the 1970 Yankees, the, the Bronx Zoo, they were great too.
- 54:38When they added Reggie Jackson to that roster.
- 54:40And Thurman Munson. I'm not, I mean, are you going
- 54:43to tell me that Reggie Jackson and Thurman Munson were two of
- 54:46the best at their positions of all time?
- 54:48They were, they're both Hall of Farmers.
- 54:51So I, I, I, I understand how everybody's comparing it.
- 54:55It's just a take. I still think the 98 Yankees,
- 54:59for what they did with less of superstar talent, was more
- 55:03impressive. All right, last one, we'll round
- 55:05it out with the 98 Yankees Truth seeker O4 says Yankees were the
- 55:08best team in MLB history. Hard.
- 55:10Stop. No question.
- 55:11Thank you, truth seeker. I agree with you.
- 55:13The 98 Yankees. And here's the thing, if you
- 55:16look at the rosters, besides Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter,
- 55:21and, and some of the Yankee players that they built through
- 55:25their farm system and, and they did add Rodger Clemens and David
- 55:29Wells was good and David Cone was a good pitcher.
- 55:32They're all great pitchers. When you look at just straight
- 55:37up talent, it was built through their farm system.
- 55:40Andy Pettitte was arguably one of the greatest pitches the
- 55:44Yankees have ever had. He came from the Yankees farm
- 55:47system. Jorge Posada should be
- 55:49considered a Hall of Famer. This guy's statistics, as far as
- 55:53a catcher's concerned, you can compare him to Johnny Bench or
- 55:57any one of those guys that are in the Hall of Fame, but this
- 56:00guy barely got 10% of the votes and that's why he's never going
- 56:03to be on the ballot again. Bernie Williams, one of the most
- 56:07underrated playoff players of all time.
- 56:10You're going to tell me this guy wasn't as good a two way player
- 56:13as we've ever seen the Yankees have?
- 56:15But they're not Babe Ruth, they're not Joe DiMaggio,
- 56:19they're not Mickey Mantle, Lou Gehrig, even Aaron Judge because
- 56:25of just the way the transition was from the 90s, from the 80's,
- 56:30the 70's, the 60's, the 50s and everything like that.
- 56:32But my argument would not argue that 98 wasn't the best team
- 56:37because of what? Lack of talent?
- 56:40Well, lack of superstars. They had and and still did it
- 56:43with the players and and won at a dominant fashion.
- 56:46So that's my take. The 98 Yankees is the greatest
- 56:49Yankee team because they did it without and and Derek Jeter was
- 56:53a star, but he wasn't a superstar in 98.
- 56:55He was remember he came up in 969596.
- 56:59He won his first World Series in 9698.
- 57:02Derek Jeter was three years into the league.
- 57:03He wasn't even a captain of the team.
- 57:05So he didn't become the captain until 99 I think.
- 57:09So my argument here is Derek Jeter still was still a young
- 57:13man. He was 2324 years old when he
- 57:16was at a high, when the Yankees were that high level.
- 57:19So that's just my argument, OK, You, everybody's got their own
- 57:23opinion and I love it. Thank you for all the fans that
- 57:26have reached out to us and answered and and argued their
- 57:29points. I love it.
- 57:30And that's why I keep writing and I keep posting stories for
- 57:33everybody to read because I want them to enjoy it.
- 57:37All right, ladies and gentlemen, we got to get into some baseball
- 57:41as we're going to get into the American League and National
- 57:44League Central preview. The Tigers open up as betting
- 57:48favorites to win the American League Central at a + 110,
- 57:52followed by the Royals at plus 225 and the Guardians at plus
- 57:57425. The Tigers were able to keep
- 58:00Glaber Torres on his qualifying offer, brought back Justin
- 58:04Verlander, signed Kenley Jansen and their big move was signing
- 58:11Framber Valdez for a three-year 150, a $115 million deal.
- 58:19The Royals had a quiet offseason, mostly extending
- 58:21their own players, including Salvatore Perez and Vini
- 58:26Pascontino for two years, Mikel Garcia for five years.
- 58:31The Guardians also were pretty quiet, only signing three relief
- 58:35pitchers, but did lock up Jose Ramirez for another 4 year, $106
- 58:40million extension, which will be added on to his current
- 58:44contract, keeping him with the Cleveland Guardians until 2032.
- 58:49So he's going to retire as a Guardian.
- 58:51The Cubs opened as betting favorites in the National League
- 58:55Central at plus 110, the Brewers at plus 250, the Reds at plus
- 59:00450 and the Pirates at +600. The Pirates made some moves to
- 59:06improve their lineup depth, trading for 2nd baseman Brandon
- 59:10Lowe and signing first baseman Ryan O'hearn and DH Marcel
- 59:16Ozuna. The Reds brought in three new
- 59:20relief pitchers, but their big move is bringing back WBC hero
- 59:25Suarez, who hit 49 home runs last season.
- 59:29The Brewers were able to bring back pitcher Brandon Woodruff on
- 59:35a qualifying offer, but traded traded Freddie Peralta to the
- 59:42Mets for pitching prospect Brandon Sprout and in an
- 59:46infielder prospect Jeff, I'm sorry, Jet Williams.
- 59:51The Cubs traded for Marlins pitcher Edwin Cabrera, brought
- 59:55back Shoda Imanaga, Imanana, whatever on a qualifying offer
- 1:00:02and signed Alex Bregman to A5 year $175,000,000 deal.
- 1:00:07By the way, Bregman who didn't show up to the WBCWBC, he really
- 1:00:12didn't show up. Out of all the players, he was
- 1:00:14the one that didn't show up and he just made himself almost $200
- 1:00:17million in the offseason by the Cubs.
- 1:00:19It's interesting to look at the Tigers and not think that the
- 1:00:23Tigers even with the additions that they made.
- 1:00:26Are not the favorites to come out of the central and, and it's
- 1:00:28central to me every single year is up and down.
- 1:00:32The Guardians always find a way in the second-half of the season
- 1:00:36to to get back to that second or first place position and run
- 1:00:41away with the division. They do it every single year.
- 1:00:43It's pretty amazing. We talked to Nick Goody all the
- 1:00:46time. He worked with the Guardians
- 1:00:47last year and I went back and forth with him.
- 1:00:50He told me don't be surprised if the Guardians come back and win
- 1:00:52the division and what happens? They did that.
- 1:00:55So I'm not going to bet out. I'm not going to bet against the
- 1:00:58Guardians at a + 425. If you're a betting man, I would
- 1:01:02bet that plus 425. I would because I don't trust
- 1:01:06the Tigers even bring it back. Justin Verlander, the old man,
- 1:01:09Justin Verlander. Glaber Torres was good last
- 1:01:12year, but is he going to be consistent?
- 1:01:14Remember, he only got brought back with a qualifying offer.
- 1:01:17So he's going to be a free agent again next year.
- 1:01:20So I he's going to want to play and he's going to want to play
- 1:01:23hard. Kenley Jensen was an interesting
- 1:01:25signing. He's a good relief pitcher.
- 1:01:27He was the closer for the Dodgers for, for many, many
- 1:01:31years. And and Framber Valdez, he's
- 1:01:34another guy that's very interesting to this this roster
- 1:01:37as well. So the Tigers are good.
- 1:01:40They got a lot of good young players.
- 1:01:41We're going to see a lot of good young players come up from their
- 1:01:44farm system. They're loaded.
- 1:01:46They're loaded and to add players in pieces the way they
- 1:01:49did this offseason, it's very Detroit not ask because they
- 1:01:54don't usually do that. They usually over the last
- 1:01:57couple of years they've they've taken their money and thrown it
- 1:02:00into some of the younger players and they're doing what the
- 1:02:03Braves are trying to do, keep their younger players and make
- 1:02:05sure that they don't go to arbitration.
- 1:02:08And that's what the the Tigers are going to try to do, and
- 1:02:11they're not going to be able to do that with Tarek Skubal.
- 1:02:13And Tarek Skubal is going to go to free agency because he's
- 1:02:16going to make himself $500 million, if not next year or the
- 1:02:19year after, whenever the strike is over.
- 1:02:21The Royals. Weed is a great player.
- 1:02:25He will be up for an MVP once again, as expected.
- 1:02:28Salvador Perez, we know how great of a catcher he is.
- 1:02:32He won. He won the WBC, He was one of
- 1:02:35the leaders for that Venezuela team.
- 1:02:36So you like Salvatore Perez and you want to bring back a veteran
- 1:02:40captain of that magnitude. But I don't trust the Kansas
- 1:02:43City Royals. I don't think they're going to
- 1:02:44be any good this year. I think they're going to be
- 1:02:46chasing and Brandon and a guy like Wit, and I'll say this
- 1:02:50again, Wit will be eventually a guy that is going to have to be
- 1:02:54traded. There's no way they're going to
- 1:02:56be able to keep Wit as good as he is.
- 1:02:58Teams are going to be gunning for him when he becomes
- 1:03:01arbitrated or even becomes there was, you know what, one year or
- 1:03:04two years left on his contract and and which is coming up very,
- 1:03:07very soon. So Wit is going to be a free
- 1:03:10agent. Teams like the Yankees who are
- 1:03:12going to need a shortstop for their future.
- 1:03:14If one of these guys, Lombardi or one of these guys don't work
- 1:03:17out Volpe, I could see that happening.
- 1:03:20So very, very interesting. The Reds as far as the Central
- 1:03:23is concerned. Here's the thing.
- 1:03:28I think the Cubs are going to run away with this division.
- 1:03:31I do, I, I think the Cubs, even though the Brewers had a great
- 1:03:35season, I, I don't know if the Brewers are going to be able to
- 1:03:38do it again this coming year. I think the Cubs adding a
- 1:03:41Bregman, they've got some good depth in that lineup now in the
- 1:03:45middle of that lineup and they got a good pitching staff.
- 1:03:48I can't see the Cubs not winning this division this year, but
- 1:03:50don't be surprised as the Brewers are going to be chasing
- 1:03:52them and the Reds. I think I could see three teams
- 1:03:54making the playoffs, 2 wild card teams and and one of these teams
- 1:03:58going to win the division. This is probably besides the
- 1:04:03Dodgers division. Now the reason why I say the
- 1:04:06Dodgers because we don't know what the Diamondbacks are going
- 1:04:09to be and and we we don't know what the Padres are going to be
- 1:04:12because the Padres for some reason can't stay healthy.
- 1:04:16Tatis and and Machado. How long are they going to keep
- 1:04:19those two guys on the on the same roster?
- 1:04:21But I, I will say this, I think the Cubs have more depth this
- 1:04:25year than they did last year. I think they're the better team.
- 1:04:28The Reds watch out for them. They're going to start off
- 1:04:30really, really strong. And we'll see how, if they're
- 1:04:33going to last year they started off very slow, but I think this
- 1:04:36year they're going to start off really, really strong.
- 1:04:38We'll see if they tail off. They really picked up the pace
- 1:04:41in the second-half of the season when the Mets kind of fell
- 1:04:43apart. I want to see how they do this
- 1:04:46year with some of the additions. Are the Pirates going to be that
- 1:04:49bad this year? Paul Schemes is looking to be
- 1:04:52traded. They added a Zuna.
- 1:04:53They they added some pieces. Something the Pirates never do.
- 1:04:57Is the reason why they brought a Zuna is because they're trying
- 1:05:00to get some draft stock or farming farm hands in the future
- 1:05:04and move a Zuna when when free agent or or when, when the trade
- 1:05:07deadline comes around. That could be something that
- 1:05:09they're looking for to do. But I think it's the Cubs, the
- 1:05:14Brewers, the Reds, that's where I would go, and then the
- 1:05:17Pirates. But I think the Cubs want to run
- 1:05:20away with the division this year.
- 1:05:21Yeah, the Cubs, I think are the second best team on paper in the
- 1:05:24National League after the Dodgers.
- 1:05:25I think the Cubs have had a good farm system for a while.
- 1:05:28A lot of these young pitchers are going to play bigger roles
- 1:05:31in it this year. You saw the bullpen kind of
- 1:05:32emerge in the second-half when I thought they didn't do enough
- 1:05:34with the trade deadline. They actually did very well and
- 1:05:36I think they definitely made their mark.
- 1:05:38Now it's interesting because the Brewers are slowly right there,
- 1:05:40too. We I've thought the same thing
- 1:05:41with their developmental process, like how long could
- 1:05:43they keep this process up, getting of these players?
- 1:05:47I thought they missed the playoffs last year and they
- 1:05:48still did very well that Cincinnati was better than them
- 1:05:50and they still got in. And yeah, I'm not going to fall
- 1:05:53for that kind of thing again. And the Brewers, I think still
- 1:05:55can win the division because they've owned the Cubs head to
- 1:05:57head recently. So that could help win the
- 1:05:58division. The Cubs I think is more talent
- 1:06:00to make World Series run. That's another question.
- 1:06:02We'll see if anyone could beat the Dodgers, but you're right,
- 1:06:04the Padres are one of my drop offs.
- 1:06:06So I think there could be a window for the Reds maybe to get
- 1:06:08in as that other young team. Now Fish, we talked about it
- 1:06:11earlier this week. Hunter green already hurt.
- 1:06:13How much is that going to affect their rotation?
- 1:06:15I think they still have a pretty deep rotation as a whole.
- 1:06:17The Reds, which one team they they couldn't get the pitching
- 1:06:19and hitting going at the same time last year, like when
- 1:06:21they're hitting did well in the when the pitchers were hurt, the
- 1:06:25pitching didn't do well. Then the offense went cold kind
- 1:06:27of in the second-half of the season, but just enough because
- 1:06:29the Mets had the historical lapse.
- 1:06:30They were stable to get in the playoffs.
- 1:06:32So there's a window for that. The Pirates, we'll see if they
- 1:06:35can get the pieces together on offense.
- 1:06:36Fish, I think you brought up last month or so, they kind of
- 1:06:38spent a lot in order to get it. Can they make all the work?
- 1:06:42That's another question in the American League.
- 1:06:44I'm with you on the Guardians. I think the Guardians were like
- 1:06:46behind, like they were not expected because they didn't
- 1:06:49know there was the LCS the year before, but they lost a lot of
- 1:06:51pieces and their young kids didn't come up for the whole
- 1:06:53season yet. Now you're going to get a full
- 1:06:55year with Manzardo, who's a good prospect, chased a Lottie, a
- 1:06:58good process. I know Goody was talking about
- 1:06:59that. I think they were actually
- 1:07:01playing like with house money essentially last year here and
- 1:07:03now I think they're going to have even more of a more of a
- 1:07:05well-rounded identity all season long where they rely on a we're
- 1:07:09going to play hot in the second-half because we're not
- 1:07:11expecting to do well because Class A got suspended and all
- 1:07:13that betting scandal in over their heads.
- 1:07:16And that's the other thing with the Tigers, how much they let
- 1:07:18the drama of school ball affect them.
- 1:07:20Are they going to have enough veteran leadership with these
- 1:07:22other guys to not let that be a distraction for them all year?
- 1:07:25Because the American League is going to have tougher divisions
- 1:07:28with the West and with the East, where you might be out of the
- 1:07:31playoffs if you let that thing get into you.
- 1:07:34Yeah, Speedy. I think that the biggest move
- 1:07:37that was made by any team was getting Framber Valdez in the
- 1:07:40offseason. Because if they lose Scubal now,
- 1:07:43they still have a guy that can, you know, he's a #2 but he could
- 1:07:47be like a poor man's ace, you know, going forwards.
- 1:07:50He's a really good pitcher. Now they have two lefties with
- 1:07:53him in Scubal. Rest of that rotation, a little
- 1:07:57hit or miss. You know, Casey Mize, more of a
- 1:07:59depth starter, had a good first half, you know, kind of fell off
- 1:08:04in the second-half. Like Franber Valdez has elite
- 1:08:08upside. Like elite upside tied for the
- 1:08:10most wins since he's become a starting pitcher since 2020.
- 1:08:14You know, this is a real, real dude.
- 1:08:16Obviously played for a really good Houston team.
- 1:08:19Easier to get wins there. Wins is not a perfect statistic
- 1:08:22to go by, but no one's going to say he wasn't a top 15 pitcher
- 1:08:25in that time. No one's going to say that, you
- 1:08:28know, maybe in the last few years closer to top 20, top 25
- 1:08:31at worst, but I would still say he's top 15, top 20 and that's
- 1:08:36great to add on. And if case they lose him.
- 1:08:38The biggest question mark in that division in my opinion,
- 1:08:43though, is Kansas City. And you, you say it, Errol, but
- 1:08:46there's a guy that they didn't have last year and until the
- 1:08:50very end of the season when Cole Reagan's came back and made
- 1:08:54three electric starts like we thought he could do.
- 1:08:57He's a real number one in my opinion.
- 1:09:02He flashed a lot. I know Jabba loved him, would
- 1:09:04talk about him a lot as well. His stuff was electric, maybe a
- 1:09:07little too electric to maintain the arm health.
- 1:09:10But if he's back, that gives them a whole nother dimension.
- 1:09:15That's like giving them a Garrick Cole, you know, at the
- 1:09:17beginning of the season. Like, that's how good he could
- 1:09:20be. Like his ceiling is outrageous
- 1:09:22in my opinion. I don't think he can't.
- 1:09:24Even with Reagan playing at a high level, I don't think it's
- 1:09:27going to make a difference. I mean, the Cubs are that much
- 1:09:29better than them. And and I, I and I do believe
- 1:09:33Milwaukee, we're talking about Kansas City.
- 1:09:35I'm sorry. No, yeah, I'm talking about in
- 1:09:37the AL because you don't know what that that that Cleveland
- 1:09:40lineup, speedy, like you see these names.
- 1:09:44But I'm going to have a fantasy baseball draft this weekend and
- 1:09:47I'm going to tell you zero of those guys are going to be
- 1:09:49drafted, you know, maybe very late.
- 1:09:51It doesn't. Matter, it's the way they play
- 1:09:53as a team and, and, and, and I believe they're very well
- 1:09:57managed. They have one of the better
- 1:09:59managers, one of the more underrated managers in all the
- 1:10:02baseball. And I'm not talking about
- 1:10:03Francona because he's not running that organization, he's
- 1:10:06running Cincinnati. So I think, didn't he win
- 1:10:09Manager of the Year? Vote yes.
- 1:10:11So I to me, I, I think that we're going to see how this team
- 1:10:17does with less and we've seen it every single year.
- 1:10:21They start off really, really slow.
- 1:10:22Last year they were really bad and then after the All Star
- 1:10:26break, slowly but surely they got back into it and then
- 1:10:30eventually took over and and knocked tight the Tigers out of
- 1:10:33first place, which was shocking because the Tigers were so much
- 1:10:36better than they were all season long until really 2530 games
- 1:10:41left of the the season It was. It was pretty impressive what
- 1:10:44the Guardians did. But Kansas City is not going to
- 1:10:46be any good and and they're going to have to decide what
- 1:10:48they're going to be doing with because he is not staying with
- 1:10:50that organization. Yeah.
- 1:10:52The other problem, even with the mitts, the other pitching
- 1:10:53injuries, fish, was the fact that their offense never got
- 1:10:55going all year depth wise inside of maybe Garcia had a nice year.
- 1:10:59Like they're pitching. They had Cameron that pitched
- 1:11:01well. You had Chris Bubeck who pitched
- 1:11:04well before he got hurt. He was an All Star.
- 1:11:06He was like the second or third highest at the All Star rating
- 1:11:08for a while with pitchers until he got hurt.
- 1:11:11That just their offense was so terrible, like they were third
- 1:11:14worst OPS as a team or something.
- 1:11:15Before before we move on, you mentioned the Red 4 and I love
- 1:11:19Francona. You know that's where he is.
- 1:11:21Now they have Hunter Green who is going to be out till at least
- 1:11:25July, but it's going to be right around the trade deadline.
- 1:11:28Now Chase Burns has also hurt. He's their their prospect.
- 1:11:32I don't know how much he's going to be able to go this year if
- 1:11:35they suffer one more injury and Ladolo, who's their next best
- 1:11:38pitcher is an injury risk. You now have a team that might
- 1:11:44free fall and they might sell off a piece.
- 1:11:46And even though he's been, he hasn't pitched all season,
- 1:11:49Hunter Green might be the top name at the trade deadline that
- 1:11:53any team is going to be dying to get because you're not going to
- 1:11:57get a guy who throws over 100 on average from anywhere else.
- 1:12:01And it's going to be pretty awesome the competition for him.
- 1:12:05If this is what I, I, I think that really might happen because
- 1:12:08that's competitive that division.
- 1:12:10And if they don't have enough pitching to get through the
- 1:12:12first half of the season, they should sell because they got
- 1:12:15enough talent for the future. I think they're going to be
- 1:12:17fine. I really do.
- 1:12:19I I think Francona is a great manager.
- 1:12:22He finds ways to win games and I think he will find a way to keep
- 1:12:25this team in that race and see how healthy they can get.
- 1:12:28Or maybe Cincinnati makes a trade here or, or there to, to
- 1:12:32keep them in out of harm's way where they can compete.

- 1:14:45He works with the NBA. He's one of the best at looking
- 1:14:50at data and and looking at who's going to be good and in the
- 1:14:54future where these guys are going to be as NBA players,
- 1:14:57college players and he is one of the best.
- 1:14:59So I'm excited to have him on. I'd love to hear his take on AJ
- 1:15:03and Peterson and Boozer and where he sees how how the NBA is
- 1:15:08going to look at these guys as the top three prospects coming
- 1:15:11out of this year's draft and his Wilson moving up even with not
- 1:15:15playing in this tournament and breaking his finger.
- 1:15:17So and I think he is moving up. I think he's as good as any one
