- 0:41SPEAKER_00: All right, let's hop right into it tonight.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Takeaways from the Bills throttling of the Cleveland Browns 31 to 7 in the second preseason game of the year for the Bills.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: And boy, what a performance once again from this Joe Brady-led team.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: And I'll tell you what, Joe Brady, it is the preseason.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: He's looked mighty poised through two preseason games.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: Today, his shining moment, the two-minute drill at the end of the first half.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: That was Kyle Allen's shining moment as well.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: More on that in a little bit.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: But Joe Brady looking the part, managing the clock, helping the Bills work their way down the field for the touchdown.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: So I'm still waiting for the regular season.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: It remains to be seen how Brady will fare as Bill's head coach, but a good start to the preseason, and it can't be ignored.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: And we won't ignore it here on the show.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: But most of the starters did not play for the Bills tonight, including Josh Allen, Caleb Elarmzor, and Dorian Williams, both competing for the linebacker job.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: They each played, and also Alec Anderson and Austin Corbett, they both did as well at the left guard spot.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: So that's a sign that those competitions have yet to be decided.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Both playing, both of those positions, I should say, playing all four of those players in the second preseason game.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: Now, if you were to ask me right now who's going to win the linebacker job and the left guard job to start the regular season, I would say Dorian Williams and Alec Anderson.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: I think this team favors not only experience, but experience on this team.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: And Anderson and Williams have been on the Bills for a number of years.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: Williams, a former third-round pick.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: Anderson, a former undrafted free agent.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: So I think they'll get first crack at things.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: And I don't think there's been quite enough separation as far as Caleb Elarms or is concerned.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: And Austin Corbett has frankly been the worst player between him and Alec Anderson.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: So if you were to ask me right now, it would be Dorian Williams, Alec Anderson winning those jobs going in to the regular season.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: But moving back to the game tonight, it started with a lightning delay of about an hour and six minutes.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: The teams went to the locker room and waited for it to pass, and it did, which allowed for some explosive action on the field, both from the Bills' offense and the Bills' defense.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Offensively, Ray Davis got things going with a goal line touchdown.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: I found it a bit concerning.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: It took him three tries to get across the goal line.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: He got stuffed on the first two and uh able to get across on third down.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: But if you're Ray Davis competing for more carries and making your play for more carries, I should say, to head coach Joe Brady and in the media, you've got to get across the goal line in one of those first two tries.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: It can't take until third down.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: I don't think during the regular season you're often going to get many opportunities where you're going to have three tries at it.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Now, Josh Allen used in short yardage regularly by the team, so that is that has been their top option in past years.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: But still, Ray Davis given an opportunity, takes three tries to get across the goal line.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: A minor concern at the start of this game.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: But another note with Davis, he's competing for that punt return job and let the first punt return that he had today go over his head.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: No return.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: The second one, he did return, and then McCole Hardman got a chance later in the game.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: He got a return, but also dropped a few passes at the wide receiver position.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: So I think some ups and downs for both of these players throughout the course of this game.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: And much like the two camp competitions that I mentioned before at the linebacker position and left guard, in terms of this punt return job between Micole Hardman and Ray Davis, I think that has yet to be decided as well.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: And that might as might very well run all the way through the Bills' third preseason game.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: But the main story on offense today was Kyle Allen.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: He was on fire.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: I'm pretty sure he's locked up that quarterback two job between him and Shane Buchel, who played the second half.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: But it was Kyle Allen in the first half really lighting up the Browns defense and using Trent Shurfield and Jamori Macklin to help him do so.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Macklin came up with a 71-yard touchdown later in the game.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: But Trent Shurfield, a big game for him.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: I think it was four catches.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Let's see here.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Four catches for 54 yards for Trent Shurfield, two catches for 108 yards for Jamori Macklin.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: So a bunch of injuries for the Bills wide receivers and two reserve wide receivers come through with some big plays.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: But Trent Shurfield was all over the field early on, and he's in a push to make the roster as well.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: It seems like his best course to do so would be via special teams contributions, replacing what Tyrell Shavers offered last year.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: But like I mentioned before, with all of the injuries that the Bills are experiencing at the position, it's good to see what Shurfield's been able to produce, not only today against the Browns, but really throughout training camp.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: He's shown flashes with the Bills' second and third team, even taking turns with the first team as well.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: So Trent Shurfield in his second stint with the Bills, very, very impressive.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: And Jamori Macklin can't say enough about him.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: I believe he was one of the players who connected with Josh Allen deep down the field during the open practice on August 18th.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: And today he follows up that performance with a long touchdown, 100 yards plus receiving.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: So Macklin, a surefire practice squad candidate.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: That is, if the Bills are able to get him back with his pedigree, uh, I believe cousins with former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Macklin.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: So Jamory Macklin really showing out.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: And while I would love to see him back on the practice squad, it may be tough for the Bills to do so with how he's performed over the past several days.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: And I was going to get to this later, but SOB 1994 brings it up right now.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: We'll stay on the offensive side of the ball.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Jude Bowery struggled in this game, gave up a sack, headed to the medical tent.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure if he made his way back onto the field, but he does not look ready to be the team swing tackle.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: They let Ryan Vandermark walk in free agency, signs that offer sheet with the Minnesota Vikings, and they're really relying on Bowery to step in in year one and become a player after drafting him in the fourth round.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: But I was not high on this pick when they made it.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: Drafted out of the world one of the worst college programs in the nation in Boston College.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: And he really did not fare well against the Cleveland Browns in his short time on the field.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: And while I thought he started training camp pretty well, as the physicality has picked up, I think his performance has dipped.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: And I don't think Jude Bowery is ready to take over this swing tackle role for the Bills this year.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: Now we move over to the defensive side of the ball.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: A positive sign for rookie TJ Parker, the second round pick.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: I thought he was the Bills' best defender today.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: He's really looked apart since I took in the Bills training camp practices at St.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: John Fisher University, followed by the open practices and now the preseason.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: TJ Parker really standing out, not as someone who I think is going to explode for a 10-plus sack season in his rookie year, but I think this is someone who could give you six, seven sacks after what I've seen from him over the first two weeks of the preseason.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: Last week, he recorded his first sack of the preseason.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: Uh quarterback kind of ran into him a little bit of a coverage sack as well, but he followed up that performance by creating pressure today, also helping out in the running game, so showing that three-down capability.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: He's got a little bit more twitch than I thought coming out of the draft, and now starting to really match with the physicality as well.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: So very impressed with what TJ Parker had to offer today.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: And defensively, he recorded a couple of tackles, I believe.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: We'll find him here on the stat sheet.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: Yes, two tackles for TJ Parker and a quarterback hit as well.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: So a very good start for TJ Parker and another TJ, second year pro TJ Sanders, two tackles and a quarterback hit as well.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: And while we're at it, we'll stay on the defensive line.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: Landon Jackson, a tackle for loss.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: He created penetration as well today.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: Bulking up this season, moving inside to that four-eye technique.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: Landon Jackson starting to impress.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: And Dwayne Carter has not been the most impressive throughout training camp and his first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: But I thought he made an impact today against the Cleveland Browns.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: The Browns aren't world beaters by any stretch of the imagination.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: And he did most of his work against the Browns' third team and some against the second team, I believe.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: But Dwayne Carter finally showing his face here in a positive way for the Bills against the Cleveland Browns.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: And then elsewhere on the defensive side of the ball, he had two interceptions.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: Damar Hamlin and Takore Couch both come away with the takeaways.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: And Damar Hamlin had gotten beaten a couple of plays before.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: I want to say it was over the middle.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: And to come back and respond with the interception, an encouraging sign for a player who I think is going to have to make an impact for the Bills this year.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: He's been used as the Bills' third safety throughout the preseason in training camp ahead of free agent acquisition Gino Stone.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: So with CJ Gardner Johnson still out due to injury, Cole Bishop did not play in this game.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: One of the many starters who did not play.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: He has dealt with some injury this preseason.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: So Damar Hamlin may have to play meaningful snaps, and good to see him come away with a tipped interception that came off the hand, it appeared, of linebacker Joe Andreessen, who had a nice game today as well.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: Really playing as if his hair were on fire all over the field, making an impact in the running game and in coverage.
- 11:44SPEAKER_00: And that's important for Andreessen, who's appeared to be behind in the pecking order, behind Keonta Jenkins.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: But as he works his way through these preseason games, if he can continue to make an impact, maybe he sticks around on the roster after all.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Takory Couch also with an interception, albeit during the second half of action, while Frank Gore Jr.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: recorded a kick return, fumbled the ball as well.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: The Bills hop back on it.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: But that was a bit of a concerning moment for Gore Jr.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: But that's going to do it for the first half of the show.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: Please like, share, rate, and subscribe to the podcast.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: Also leave a comment on YouTube, Apple, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcast.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: And it's really been an encouraging start to the preseason for the Bills.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: Now they played the Carolina Panthers and the Cleveland Browns.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: These are not two of the best teams in the NFL.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: And a lot of the work has been done against the backups on both teams, and a lot of the work for the Bills, for that matter, has been done by their own backups.
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: But 31 to 7.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: When you're playing against the Browns' top two quarterbacks who are both pushing to become the team starters, and what a horrendous day for Deshaun Watson.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: 5 for 12, 36 yards, and an interception in the second half against the Bills reserves.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: He's trying to be this reclamation project this year.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: Sanders, 9 for 11, 74 yards, a great touchdown drive, which we'll discuss in a second.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Trying to fend him off.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: Terrible day for Deshaun Watson.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: 14.6 quarterback rating, I believe that is.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: Or no, that's a that's passer rating.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: 14.6 passer rating for Deshaun Watson.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: Averaged three yards per attempt.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: Like I said, the interception from Takore Couch just absolutely abysmal for Deshaun Watson.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: The Bluebirds were out in force, raining down on Watson.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: Just the embarrassment for him and the Browns this afternoon slash evening.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: But let's get to one positive moment for the Browns and a rough start for the Bills defense.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: And Shadur Sanders going four for four right down the field for a touchdown on the Browns' first drive.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: Bill's defense allowed a few chunk runs up the middle.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: I thought the interior of their defensive line was left exposed.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: And also a miscommunication on the back end, which we've seen a number of times throughout training camp and the preseason.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: The Bills' deep pass defense could be a problem this year.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: There could be some variance in what they allow.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: Opposing aerial attacks to accomplish.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: Under Sean McDermott, it was all bend, don't break.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: Under Jim Leonard, it's going to be more attack style.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: So you may see more big plays over the top, and we've seen those throughout the course, like I said, of preseason and training camp.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: But four for four for Shadur Sanders on that drive, and not a great start for the Bills overall defensively.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: Now, am I going to start sounding the alarm bells?
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: No, I'm not.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: The Bills defense allowed seven points in this game.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: They completely responded and bounced back in a big, big way, led by TJ Parker, who we mentioned earlier, who I think is going to be a big time player in this league.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: So uh a miscommunication on the touchdown, some big plays up the middle, minor concern for the Bills defense, but as the game wore on, things got better and better, and players like Jo Andreessen started to find their way.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: Kennai Walker helped out in the running game.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: Uh I I thought there were some bright spots to find.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: It wasn't all bad.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: I shouldn't say that.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: The bad was very short-lived for the Bills in this game.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: But in the preseason, with top of the roster players not spending much time on the field, you really have to evaluate the start of the game.
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: So that first drive for the Bills, not a great sign.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: With Jim Leonard up in the box calling the defense, uh, the defensive plays in this game.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: He was down on the field in preseason game one, moved up to the box to kind of get a different viewpoint on things in preseason game two.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: So a bit of a change for Jim Leonard, and he settled in along with his unit as well as the game wore on.
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: I think that's really all I have on the defensive side of the ball.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: Let's check the statistics once again, just to kind of go over the offense and the defense.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: Bushel 5 for 10, 111, and a touchdown.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: Kyle Allen's touchdown came on a flip to Micole Hardman, who was able to find pay dirt today.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: And Ian Wheeler continues to shine 14 uh carries, 56 yards, an average of four yards per tote.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: He had a big hit delivered on him on the sideline, and a Browns defender kind of stood over him, taunting him in response to Wheeler's big hit during the joint practice the other day.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: But all in all, a big day for Wheeler, a long gain of 10.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: Frank Gore Jr., 9 for 54, a long gain of 18 yards, much of which came in, if not all of which came in the second half.
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: Ray Davis, I mentioned some minor concerns for him on the goal line, seven carries, 21 yards.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: Receiving, you had Macklin leading the way with 108 yards.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: Shurfield, I mentioned earlier, 54 yards.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: Receiving, a long gain of 20 yards.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: And then you had Shane Zaustra, the reserve tight end.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: Three receptions for 29 yards.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: TJC, F2R.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: Felt like Elarm Zora fell off.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: IGB stock fills up after two games complete.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: Do we think Hamlin and Kilgore make the team?
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: I don't know what the upside with Geno Stone taking reps away from rookies is.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: I think they're still deciding between Hamlin and Geno Stone.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: Right now, I think Hamlin is far and away the leader in the clubhouse after two preseason games.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: Kilgore has dealt with some injuries.
- 18:15SPEAKER_00: He did not play today, so he's been set back in his push for a contributing role.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: I think he'll find his way into the swing of things, though, once the regular season rolls around.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: I think Geno Stone's going to be a practice squad candidate at best, while Elarm Zor maybe has fallen off a bit, but I just think the hype train was so strong on him to begin with that if he's not out there showing out day after day, it's going to be a little bit disappointing compared to what we dealt with to begin training camp in the preseason.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: So bide your time with Caleb Elarm Zorr.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: He is a rookie after all, a fourth-round rookie at that.
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: He's had a great start.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: We'll just have to take our time and see how things develop with him.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I'm right there with you on the IGB stock.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: He had a great open practice when I was there to observe on August 18th.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: And his physicality may become a problem when the officials start throwing the flags, when the real bullets start flying, and we'll see how things work out in terms of a rookie cornerback acclimating his way to the NFL level.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: But I've liked what I've seen from IGB.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: And conversely, I'm still concerned with Maxwell Harrison.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: Maybe not concerned, but I'm not sold on Harrison.
- 19:29SPEAKER_00: I'm not sold on his ability to be a full-time starter.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: I think him and IGB are going to be jockeying back and forth for position, at least to start the season.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: And as SOB mentions here, this is where I was going to go next.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: Tyler Bass comes through with a 52-yard field goal after missing the 45-yarder during the game against the Carolina Panthers.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: And he followed that up with a few misses during practice this past week.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: So a 52-yard make for Tyler Bass.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: That's huge for his confidence.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: And I'm still not sold on him being the Bills answer at the kicker position.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: I'm still worried that he's going to come up at a big spot and fail to come through.
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: But taking his performance for what it was today against the Browns, the make from 52 yards is a major step in the right direction for Tyler Bass, who, let's face it, does not have the full confidence of the fan base, but after the 52 yarder, maybe that confidence level has been boosted just a little bit.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: Another camp competition that we didn't discuss off the top, the punter competition.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Tommy Doman Jr.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: going against veteran Mitch Wishnowski.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: And I tweeted it out.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: I'm always one to jump the gun.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: But Doman Jr., after his first attempt today, a 50-yard bomb from the seventh round pick, lands at the 11-yard line, returned for three yards to the 14, and I think a penalty ended up setting it back inside the 10-yard line.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: But I thought it was all but over.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: I've already thought it was over with Doman holding all of Tyler Bass's field goals and really getting the first tries out there when it's time to work the punting unit.
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: But it things didn't go so well from then on out.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: After the high arching punt down the left sideline, a successful start for Doman.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: Good fortune didn't last long.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: His next punt travels 42 yards, 17-yard return for the Browns, and then his third punt went just 37 yards, traveling from the Bills' 46 yard line to the Browns' 17 yard line before a fair catch was called for.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: So things were up and down for Domin Jr.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: And to kind of send things in the wrong direction for him as well.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: Mitch Wischnowski had a nice day.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: 59 yard boomer for the uh Veteran punter.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: So really good look for Wischnowski.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: Some ups and downs for Doman to absorb.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: I thought this battle was over entering the game, but it looks like it might extend into the final game of the preseason.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: But I still think the Bills should bring in some competition for Tyler Bass.
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: I don't think that that's all said and done.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: And I don't think we've seen the last of his struggles here this season.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: So finally, we'll wrap things up and kind of a sour note and a very tragic note.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: Not kind of a sour note, an extremely sour note, and extremely tragic moment and situation for Bill's defensive tackle at Oliver, dealing with the passing of his young son.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: And as Joe Brady mentioned after the game during his press conference, just impossible to fathom what Oliver might be going through.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: I believe this happened previously.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: I don't think this is a recent thing, as Brady alluded to during his press conference, saying that Oliver was not at the Bills Browns game today due to an injury sustained during training camp.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: So I'm just at a loss for words to really try to understand the devastation that Oliver and his family must be experiencing right now with such a tragedy that, God willing, not many of you listening or myself will ever have to deal with ourselves.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: But it seems like he has a good support system within the Bills organization.
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: Brady gave a very, very nice response.
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: And I think as his time has gone on at the podium, he's gotten more and more comfortable.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: And he really had his shining moment of the preseason and really his early tenure as Bill's head coach, answering questions about the difficult situation involving Ed Oliver and his family.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: So kudos to Brady and thoughts and prayers with Ed Oliver.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: Hopefully, he can get back from not only this difficult situation, also the injury that he's dealing with because he is a significant piece of this Bill's defensive line, which, while it showed well today, could certainly use his presence on the field moving forward.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: All right, that's going to about do it for today's show.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: Once again, we'll take one more look at the statistics just to make sure we didn't leave anything out.
- 24:48SPEAKER_00: Wheeler also had two receptions for 21 yards to go with his work on the ground.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: I think you give him the job over Frank Gore Jr.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: I'm more impressed with his upside and his physicality.
- 25:00SPEAKER_00: I I am an Ian Wheeler fan, roster Ian Wheeler.
- 25:04SPEAKER_00: I am pro-Wheeler here on the pod.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: Defensively, Damar Hamlin, we mentioned his interception, uh, also a pass defense, led the team in tackles with five.
- 25:20SPEAKER_00: He's a polarizing player, but I think he is the Bills' third best safety at this point.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: And he always finds his way around the ball.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: He's got takeaways in his pass, came up with another one today.
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: I was impressed with that from Damar Hamlin.
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: Javon Solomon, four tackles and a quarterback hit.
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: I mentioned Dwayne Carter.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: He had a quarterback hit as well.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: Connie Walker, can I walk with a pass defense?
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: And Dwayne Carter also had a ball batted down at the line of scrimmage.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: Jordan Hancock continues to trend up.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: And Mike Dana, after two sacks in his preseason debut with the Bills, he had a pass defense and a quarterback pressure as well.
- 26:05SPEAKER_00: So Dana really rising and making it tough for the Bills to keep him off the roster upon cutdown day later this month.
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: But once again, I'd like to thank everybody for joining me here tonight.
- 26:20SPEAKER_00: Actually, I don't know if I even thanked anybody for joining me.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: So thank you for joining me here tonight.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: Be sure to follow along throughout the rest of training camp.
- 26:27SPEAKER_00: Like, rate, share, subscribe to the podcast.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: Also, check out my substack, Alex Brasky Unfiltered.
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: Put my rapid reaction up from today's game.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: A lot of good for the Bills, some minor concerns as well, injury updates, and obviously the tragic moment with Ed Oliver as well.
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: But that's going to do it.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: Have a great night, everyone.
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: Stay true.
