- 0:00Speaker 1: Tom Lougan, Bill, good morning, how are you.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Good morning to you. But I'm doing good. How are you?
- 0:04Speaker 1: We're good, Bud, Thanks for hanging out with us. So
- 0:08Speaker 1: let's start with the most pressure to deliver in twenty
- 0:13Speaker 1: twenty six. You'll love this. This is great summertime topic.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Most pressure to deliver in twenty twenty six. Kiffin smart
- 0:25Speaker 1: or sort Luke's.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Oh Kiffin, without question.
- 0:32Speaker 3: I mean, they've almost set themselves up for a nowhere
- 0:37Speaker 3: to go but down scenario.
- 0:38Speaker 2: When you consider the.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Pressure and the expectations, the resources that have been allotted,
- 0:44Speaker 3: the money that has already been spent, the ballet hood,
- 0:48Speaker 3: recruiting class, transfer portal class, all of it. I mean,
- 0:51Speaker 3: this isn't This isn't like taking the old miss job
- 0:54Speaker 3: and that you get to a nine win season and
- 0:56Speaker 3: they are going to build a statue of you outside
- 0:59Speaker 3: of the state.
- 1:00Speaker 2: This is a.
- 1:02Speaker 3: College football playoff top four or five seed, We expect
- 1:06Speaker 3: it right now type of expectation and fair or unfair,
- 1:12Speaker 3: they've created this, and that's fine because that's the nature
- 1:15Speaker 3: of the business. You know, Stark's going to have a
- 1:19Speaker 3: great football team. I think Kirby's gonna have a great
- 1:21Speaker 3: football team. But right now, this is about Lane establishing
- 1:26Speaker 3: LSU as a national title contender right out of the gate.
- 1:31Speaker 1: And a tough September schedule for Lane with Clemson and
- 1:37Speaker 1: Ole Miss and A and m SO. Tom Lougan Bill
- 1:40Speaker 1: on the at of Bounds show, which roster would you
- 1:42Speaker 1: take today? Texas, Georgia, LSU.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Lukes Texas and Georgia over LSU's roster. The reason why
- 1:52Speaker 3: I say that is there are more returning, verifiable proven
- 1:59Speaker 3: play on Texas and Georgia in relationship to guys that
- 2:03Speaker 3: have played and been within the program.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Right So when you look at Georgia.
- 2:07Speaker 3: And Notre Dame's actually in this conversation too, you look
- 2:10Speaker 3: at Georgia and you look at Texas and you say, okay,
- 2:14Speaker 3: we're the established foundations. Clearly on the high school side,
- 2:18Speaker 3: have they for the most part, you're not going to
- 2:19Speaker 3: be able to do it with everybody, But have they
- 2:21Speaker 3: developed and retained at the high school level?
- 2:23Speaker 2: Yes? And then they supplement.
- 2:25Speaker 3: And they sprinkle in transfer portal additions more than likely upperclassmen,
- 2:30Speaker 3: guys that are going to bring experience, they're going to
- 2:32Speaker 3: bring age, they're going to bring maturity, and right now,
- 2:36Speaker 3: from an established standpoint, I think you'd have to take
- 2:39Speaker 3: Texas or Georgia.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Okay, But having said all that, LSU's you know, they're
- 2:46Speaker 1: not far off.
- 2:47Speaker 2: No, And I think LSU has got a high ceiling.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Okay, Okay, But and I've said this to you multiple
- 2:54Speaker 3: times on your program, if Sam Levitt doesn't perform, and
- 3:00Speaker 3: more importantly, doesn't stay healthy, then they're likely going to be,
- 3:04Speaker 3: you know, jumping to a youngster if that were to happen,
- 3:07Speaker 3: and it's happened a lot with him, right the previous
- 3:11Speaker 3: two years at Arizona State.
- 3:12Speaker 2: A lot of the hype, let's.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Not forget, a lot of the hype on him was
- 3:16Speaker 3: based off of that twenty twenty four season, right, and
- 3:20Speaker 3: not much other of a sample size to warrant that hype.
- 3:24Speaker 2: So he's going to have to come through big for them.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Yeah, So eight and four, eight and four will just
- 3:32Speaker 1: be a big time disappointment, and you can't get in
- 3:36Speaker 1: at nine and three. I don't with the twelve until
- 3:39Speaker 1: we go to sixteen, twenty or twenty four Lukes, which
- 3:42Speaker 1: is happening, but we just don't know which number. I
- 3:46Speaker 1: think a bunch of SEC teams and Big ten teams
- 3:49Speaker 1: will go at nine and three eventually, But this is
- 3:52Speaker 1: going to be a year where Sankie thought we would
- 3:56Speaker 1: have expanded by now. They couldn't get on the same page,
- 3:58Speaker 1: as you know. But they went ahead and added the
- 4:01Speaker 1: ninth conference game, So we could have a big cluster
- 4:05Speaker 1: of nine and three teams that are on the outside
- 4:08Speaker 1: looking in, even though that could be a good year in.
- 4:11Speaker 2: That CC of course, but you could have that out
- 4:14Speaker 2: of conference.
- 4:14Speaker 3: You could have that out of the out of the
- 4:16Speaker 3: ACC too. What I mean, what if what if Miami's
- 4:18Speaker 3: right there in it again? Clemson's in a position right
- 4:22Speaker 3: now or for the first time in what fifteen years?
- 4:25Speaker 3: Nobody's talking about them. Yeah, like they're lying in the weeds.
- 4:31Speaker 2: To me.
- 4:31Speaker 3: You got Louisville, you got SMU sitting there. There could
- 4:33Speaker 3: be a bunch of teams sitting there at ten and two,
- 4:35Speaker 3: nine and three out of all of the conferences, right
- 4:38Speaker 3: and and and then.
- 4:39Speaker 2: What do you do? What what you got to make sure.
- 4:41Speaker 3: We don't do is go down last year's path, and
- 4:44Speaker 3: the ACC created that. But to leave teams like BYU Texas,
- 4:50Speaker 3: even Vanderbilt, Notre Dame and Notre Dame at home in
- 4:53Speaker 3: favor of James Madison in.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Tulane is absolutely laughable.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Because that's the different And I think I said this
- 5:01Speaker 3: to you too, Bo, but nobody wants to talk about
- 5:03Speaker 3: Cinderella's and you know those long shots and you want
- 5:06Speaker 3: to root from and this and that. Well, the difference
- 5:09Speaker 3: between the basketball tournament and the football College Football Playoff
- 5:14Speaker 3: is basketball doesn't leave the blue blood established program sitting
- 5:18Speaker 3: at home to left the Cinderella in right, right, we
- 5:22Speaker 3: just left those guys at home, and they want to
- 5:25Speaker 3: call it the twelve best teams in college football.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Give me a break.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Come on, that's a good point on Notre Dame and
- 5:32Speaker 1: Texas and to a certain extent, Bandy going ten and
- 5:35Speaker 1: two sure and getting sure and getting left out. Tom
- 5:38Speaker 1: Logan Bill on the Out of Bounds Show Driven by
- 5:40Speaker 1: your next GMC Sierra Truck at Fowler GMC. You mentioned
- 5:45Speaker 1: Notre Dame and you're heavily you know, you started a
- 5:51Speaker 1: quarterback at Georgia Tech. You covered the ACC forever. Now
- 5:55Speaker 1: you're heavily involved in the ACC. They're tied in with
- 6:00Speaker 1: their four or five games a year. But have you
- 6:02Speaker 1: ever in modern era Luke's looked at a schedule that
- 6:06Speaker 1: lines up this way considered considering what Marcus Freeman and
- 6:11Speaker 1: Notre Dame are bringing back.
- 6:14Speaker 3: No, I mean it's you know what it is. It's
- 6:16Speaker 3: the perfect recipe for a national title run. It's also
- 6:20Speaker 3: the perfect recipe for disaster. Yeah, right, it's a double
- 6:23Speaker 3: edged sword. And you know, when you look, go look
- 6:27Speaker 3: at Notre Dame and the job that they've done in
- 6:29Speaker 3: terms of development and retention. They've got a potential top
- 6:33Speaker 3: five pick at quarterback. They've got two young, outstanding offensive
- 6:37Speaker 3: tackles on both sides. The biggest thing for me about
- 6:39Speaker 3: Notre Dame is they're gonna have to come up with
- 6:41Speaker 3: a way of generating pass rush, you.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Know, and that was something that was lacking a year ago.
- 6:44Speaker 3: I think they've got to increase the output there, create
- 6:47Speaker 3: more negative plays in the backfield, get people in second
- 6:51Speaker 3: and third and long on a more consistent basis. But
- 6:54Speaker 3: everything else is there, man. I mean, they are established,
- 6:57Speaker 3: and they've got the schedule where out side of probably
- 7:00Speaker 3: the Miami Contest, it's not even close in terms of
- 7:05Speaker 3: roster profile comparison with Notre Dame and whoever else they're playing.
- 7:10Speaker 1: And I think that game's in South Bend. It is Yeah, beautiful, incredible,
- 7:18Speaker 1: And so I mean, we we all have them in
- 7:22Speaker 1: the They could, they could screw it up, but we
- 7:23Speaker 1: all have them in the College Football Playoff with their
- 7:26Speaker 1: schedule and talent.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Yeah, if they're in the top twelve, it doesn't matter
- 7:29Speaker 2: what they do. They're in right right.
- 7:31Speaker 3: And if that roster and that team with that schedule
- 7:34Speaker 3: isn't in the top twelve, then they've had a twenty
- 7:38Speaker 3: five Clemson collapse.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Yeah, right out of bounds. ESPN one oh five nine
- 7:45Speaker 1: to the zone. You mentioned Texas. I'm not sure. I
- 7:49Speaker 1: know they have the talent. We all know that, But
- 7:52Speaker 1: I don't know if I'm buying so kai Kowski to
- 7:54Speaker 1: me like premier, big time defensive coordinator, must champs like good,
- 8:00Speaker 1: But he's in the B level. I think Taikowski's in
- 8:02Speaker 1: the A level.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Oh, I don't. I don't know if I agree with that.
- 8:06Speaker 3: I think there's been there's I think there's been plenty
- 8:08Speaker 3: of proof that Will musch Champ as.
- 8:11Speaker 2: A coordinator is at the elite level.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Now, we all know you got to have players, right,
- 8:16Speaker 3: You got to have really really good players, and really
- 8:20Speaker 3: really good players make you a really really good coach.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Sure, and Texas is going to have that. You know
- 8:26Speaker 2: it'll be.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Now, it might look a little different, they might be
- 8:28Speaker 3: a little bit different schematically and things of that nature.
- 8:31Speaker 3: But understand too that it's all coming off of the
- 8:35Speaker 3: of the same tree, and Stark coached under that tree.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Like he knows exactly what they are getting scheme wise
- 8:41Speaker 3: on defense, he knows exactly how it's going to be implemented.
- 8:44Speaker 2: He knows what the challenges are playing against that defense.
- 8:48Speaker 2: So whether it's.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Mush Champ, Pete Golding, Kirby Smart, whoever it is, you
- 8:53Speaker 3: know that you want to look at and say, Okay,
- 8:57Speaker 3: you know, we know the sab And tree, we know
- 8:59Speaker 3: what the scheme is, tried and true. You add great
- 9:02Speaker 3: players to it, they're going to be a formidable group.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Tom Loganville, national college football analyst with the ESPN on
- 9:09Speaker 1: the out of boundship, I want to go to ole
- 9:11Speaker 1: Miss Kiffin is has established himself. Is it fair to
- 9:15Speaker 1: say Kiffin's established himself the last six years as a
- 9:18Speaker 1: top ten play caller?
- 9:20Speaker 2: Oh? Absolutely, I agree.
- 9:22Speaker 3: I would actually go back to even he is a
- 9:25Speaker 3: younger coach, gnashing his teeth and being able to develop
- 9:30Speaker 3: as a play caller and a you know, an overseer
- 9:34Speaker 3: of the offense, going back to him working under Norm
- 9:37Speaker 3: Child sc in some of those SC offenses, and then
- 9:40Speaker 3: obviously it became his turn, and eventually it became Sark's turn.
- 9:45Speaker 3: But yeah, I think where he's done a really good
- 9:48Speaker 3: job is he's evolved with the game, right, He's added wrinkles,
- 9:52Speaker 3: he's eliminated things.
- 9:53Speaker 2: He's tweaked, he's became you.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Know, they weren't a tempo team at USC. They weren't
- 9:59Speaker 3: a let's go as fast as we can team at USC.
- 10:01Speaker 3: He's found some positives in that, so he's implemented it.
- 10:04Speaker 3: I think the evolution of him not just as a
- 10:08Speaker 3: play caller, but to enhance the play call by enhancing
- 10:12Speaker 3: the approach.
- 10:13Speaker 2: And he's done.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Okay, Now Trinidad Chambliss and Keewan Lacy have a new
- 10:21Speaker 1: play caller who has two years of offensive coordinator experience
- 10:25Speaker 1: under his bell in East Carolina and John David Baker
- 10:29Speaker 1: and John David Baker said, yeah, it's going to be
- 10:33Speaker 1: a lot of the same but some different and different terminology.
- 10:36Speaker 1: So you started at quarterback at Georgia Tech. I know
- 10:39Speaker 1: Trinidad and Lacy are going to know the offense and sold,
- 10:42Speaker 1: but what does that entail?
- 10:45Speaker 2: Walk us through?
- 10:47Speaker 1: There will be some tweaks and different terminology for this
- 10:50Speaker 1: Ole Miss offense.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I think what you got to do is if
- 10:54Speaker 3: you sat there and you put it on paper, right,
- 10:56Speaker 3: and you drew out the concepts and this and that,
- 10:58Speaker 3: all right, it just made me that instead of calling
- 11:01Speaker 3: it a slants, we called a glance, right.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Instead of a slant, we called a glance, all right.
- 11:07Speaker 3: And instead of a dig, we called it over you
- 11:10Speaker 3: know whatever it might be. Instead of a comeback, we
- 11:12Speaker 3: called a cob. You're just talking about interchangeable words. But
- 11:17Speaker 3: if you visualize it and looked at it, and let's
- 11:19Speaker 3: just say you took a play because John David Baker's
- 11:22Speaker 3: offenses essentially, I mean, it's rooted in old Missus principles.
- 11:25Speaker 3: He's coached there before. And you drew it and you said, okay,
- 11:30Speaker 3: what does this play to you? To a player that
- 11:33Speaker 3: played at ole Miss a year ago? And they look
- 11:35Speaker 3: at it, they know exactly what it is. Well, so
- 11:37Speaker 3: the play is not changing, just what you're calling it
- 11:40Speaker 3: maybe shifting a little bit. Now, that's where your off
- 11:43Speaker 3: season comes in, right, That's where you're working January February March,
- 11:48Speaker 3: and you head into spring football. And if you can't
- 11:51Speaker 3: come out of spring football adjusting to terminology, you're not
- 11:55Speaker 3: a very smart football player. And dumb players lose games.
- 11:58Speaker 3: So there's gonna be very there's gonna be very little tolerance,
- 12:03Speaker 3: uh to not be able to know what the foundation
- 12:05Speaker 3: of the offense is when you see it, but not
- 12:07Speaker 3: be able to adjust because you change a couple of
- 12:09Speaker 3: things here and there, you tag something or you call
- 12:12Speaker 3: it protection something instead of a protection being a name,
- 12:14Speaker 3: that's now a number. Okay, well, we got to be
- 12:16Speaker 3: able to adjust to that. The good part about all
- 12:18Speaker 3: of this is by eliminating the second transfer portal period
- 12:23Speaker 3: from the time that player has arrived, either through high
- 12:25Speaker 3: school recruiting in December or the transfer portal you know
- 12:29Speaker 3: in January one, spring football ended, they're not going anywhere.
- 12:34Speaker 3: They're there, so you're not having it. Let's just say
- 12:36Speaker 3: take a second group of transfer portal guys that previously
- 12:40Speaker 3: would have come in after spring football and now integrate
- 12:43Speaker 3: them heading into fall camp. That's already been done. So
- 12:47Speaker 3: by the time anybody, whether it's terminology, even if you
- 12:50Speaker 3: even if you flip the scheme. Even if you brought
- 12:52Speaker 3: in an offer at the coordinator that was gonna, you know,
- 12:55Speaker 3: run a different style of offense.
- 12:58Speaker 2: There's there's gonna be very little tolerance and very little.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Excuses for, especially at the quarterback position, but everybody else
- 13:04Speaker 3: as well, to not be dialed in on what you're
- 13:07Speaker 3: gonna do.
- 13:08Speaker 1: It looks like John David Baker throws the ball a
- 13:12Speaker 1: good bit more than Kiffin. Kiffin's been somehow we painted
- 13:16Speaker 1: him Kiffin is a pass happy offense because we see
- 13:19Speaker 1: all the explosive plays, guys running wide open. But as
- 13:22Speaker 1: you know, Lane loves to run the football. Not that
- 13:25Speaker 1: John David Baker won't, but he he skews on the
- 13:29Speaker 1: kind of the big twelve, twenty ten, twenty eleven, throw
- 13:33Speaker 1: it four from what I got it.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Yeah, you know.
- 13:35Speaker 3: I actually I had the Carolina three times last year,
- 13:38Speaker 3: so it became very familiar with them on Thursday Night football,
- 13:42Speaker 3: and so I think they want to run it more.
- 13:45Speaker 3: But here's the thing that's you know, interesting, We forget
- 13:48Speaker 3: about this. Either folks don't know it or they don't
- 13:50Speaker 3: realize it's happening, because it's not. It's tough to see
- 13:52Speaker 3: if you don't know what you're watching, but oftentimes things
- 13:56Speaker 3: that materialize in the passing game were called runs in
- 14:00Speaker 3: the huddle, right, And so what's happening is it's really
- 14:05Speaker 3: simple math. And that is when you get into that
- 14:09Speaker 3: line of scrimmage play and you've either got two plays
- 14:12Speaker 3: called in one or you're gonna have a check out
- 14:15Speaker 3: of it based off of what the look is. The
- 14:17Speaker 3: quarterbacks count numbers, right, and so we may say, hey,
- 14:20Speaker 3: we want to run it here, we want to establish
- 14:22Speaker 3: this here, but oh boy, they've got seven in the
- 14:25Speaker 3: box and we've only got five or six to block them. Well,
- 14:28Speaker 3: that's not smart football, right, So we got to get
- 14:30Speaker 3: out of that. And if you're gonna load the box,
- 14:32Speaker 3: we want to have one on one opportunities and you're
- 14:34Speaker 3: gonna throw the football. Conversely, the exact opposite happens as well.
- 14:38Speaker 3: You may come into a situation where you've got second
- 14:41Speaker 3: and eight and you've got a pass play called and
- 14:45Speaker 3: they're in too high and got five people in the box. Well,
- 14:48Speaker 3: you're gonna check to run, right, because now you have
- 14:51Speaker 3: the numbers advantage and you're going to try to get
- 14:54Speaker 3: five six yards of that and get yourself in second
- 14:57Speaker 3: and short which is third and short, which is what
- 14:58Speaker 3: everybody wants to be in.
- 15:00Speaker 2: So it's not necessarily rocket science. It's numbers.
- 15:04Speaker 1: And you have a veteran quarterback who proved he was
- 15:07Speaker 1: arguably the best decision maker in the country.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Yeah last year in Trinidad.
- 15:12Speaker 3: He can get you in and out of those things, right,
- 15:14Speaker 3: he knows he knows pre snap. Okay, this is what
- 15:16Speaker 3: we ultimately want to be in. We don't want to
- 15:18Speaker 3: run this versus this look. We'd ideally love him to
- 15:21Speaker 3: be in this look. If we're going to attack them
- 15:23Speaker 3: with this. Oh wait that they're not in that look either.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Let's go to something else and understand too, Like at
- 15:29Speaker 3: the speed and rate that they're going, how fast that
- 15:32Speaker 3: stuff has to happen, right, And because it's not just
- 15:35Speaker 3: the pre snap recognition in the diagnosis once the ball snapped,
- 15:40Speaker 3: you've got to produce a positive result. And with offenses
- 15:43Speaker 3: like that, they're having to make those determinations anywhere between
- 15:45Speaker 3: eleven and fourteen seconds.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Let's go to.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Jeff Levy, who's on the hot seat and has to
- 15:55Speaker 1: win this year, and he has a true sophomore back
- 16:02Speaker 1: and I always referenced Dak and Eli, who back then
- 16:06Speaker 1: didn't start until the red shirt sophomore years here and
- 16:09Speaker 1: they're both phenomenal. Okay, they hung around forever all that,
- 16:14Speaker 1: so his job is right, you know, is on the line.
- 16:17Speaker 1: With a true sophomore QB who's six foot four, two thirty.
- 16:21Speaker 1: You know he can run around, probably not a refined passer,
- 16:26Speaker 1: yet you played quarterback at the Power four level knowing
- 16:31Speaker 1: that you've got to win X amount of games. What
- 16:34Speaker 1: would be your I mean, what would be to your
- 16:38Speaker 1: approach this year with a true sophomore that played a
- 16:41Speaker 1: little bit last year, knowing that he's going to have
- 16:43Speaker 1: to carry you over the finish line, so to speak.
- 16:46Speaker 3: Lukes, Well, I think that's where the the off season
- 16:49Speaker 3: coaching component comes into play.
- 16:52Speaker 2: As you mentioned, you've got a small sample size, there's
- 16:54Speaker 2: tape to be to.
- 16:55Speaker 3: Be watched, and then you're you're continuing to develop this
- 17:00Speaker 3: player's theory of the game knowledge. It's not necessarily how
- 17:03Speaker 3: big he is, how tall he is, it's what can
- 17:05Speaker 3: he handle, what can he process? What can he do right?
- 17:08Speaker 3: And you're gonna test that out. That's what spring football's for.
- 17:11Speaker 3: You're gonna put him in situations to see what he does.
- 17:13Speaker 3: You're gonna maybe try to trick him into a situation
- 17:15Speaker 3: to see if he recognizes it and gets out of
- 17:19Speaker 3: it or moves into something. You're going to want to
- 17:21Speaker 3: really upgrade that player's knowledge of past protections and how
- 17:26Speaker 3: to protect himself and get the team into the right call.
- 17:30Speaker 2: So I think so much of.
- 17:31Speaker 3: The development and an off season between a freshman and
- 17:34Speaker 3: sophomore year is really advancing that player's knowledge of the
- 17:39Speaker 3: game so that they can think fast and they can
- 17:42Speaker 3: play comfortable. Now does that mean that you ask them
- 17:45Speaker 3: to do something that maybe they're not comfortable with or
- 17:48Speaker 3: they don't have confidence in. Absolutely not. But that's what
- 17:51Speaker 3: you're trying to find out, right, Because we can talk
- 17:54Speaker 3: all we want about scheme and systems and this and that.
- 17:56Speaker 3: The great systems are the systems that revolve around a
- 17:59Speaker 3: player strengths and then do everything they can to mask weaknesses.
- 18:03Speaker 3: So you're trying to figure out what that is, Right,
- 18:05Speaker 3: You're trying to say, Okay, you know, with with.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Somebody like I don't know anybody, they would have had
- 18:12Speaker 2: it at Oklahoma under.
- 18:15Speaker 3: Jeff Levy, guys that had Dylan Well, yeah, okay, let's
- 18:20Speaker 3: take Dylan Gabriel for example, Okay, they may do things
- 18:23Speaker 3: in the office with Dylan Gabriel that they're not going
- 18:25Speaker 3: to do with Kamaro Taylor, right, And maybe it's not
- 18:29Speaker 3: because he's not capable of doing it, but maybe it's
- 18:31Speaker 3: because he's not capable of doing it yet, right, Or
- 18:34Speaker 3: you're going to implement some things that Camaro Taylor does
- 18:37Speaker 3: really really well that you wouldn't have done with Dylan Gabriel,
- 18:41Speaker 3: and whether that's moving the pocket, changing the launch point,
- 18:44Speaker 3: putting in him in a position to always be able
- 18:46Speaker 3: to run in case things don't happen and he doesn't
- 18:49Speaker 3: get through the progression, but avoiding a negative play and
- 18:52Speaker 3: doing so. You got to find those things out and
- 18:54Speaker 3: then you build the day offense around that, right, because
- 18:58Speaker 3: you don't want to stick a square Pegan around hole,
- 19:00Speaker 3: you know, like the old days it used to be, well,
- 19:02Speaker 3: you know, we're going to put this guy into the
- 19:04Speaker 3: West Coast offense, or this guy's going to be right
- 19:06Speaker 3: in the multiple pro style, and this is who we
- 19:09Speaker 3: are and this is what we're gonna do.
- 19:11Speaker 2: There has to adapt. Yes, those days are long gone. Yes,
- 19:15Speaker 2: all right, we'll wrap it up with this.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Tom Lougan Bill on the show ESPN college football analysts
- 19:23Speaker 1: biggest story coming out of the ACC. Can Belichick get
- 19:28Speaker 1: it done at North Carolina? Can Dabbo reboot Clemson? Or
- 19:33Speaker 1: does Mario make another run? Or is it another You
- 19:36Speaker 1: were there all week last week. You've got some big
- 19:38Speaker 1: names in the conference. What is it for you?
- 19:41Speaker 3: Tom Lougan Bill, I don't think it's really I don't
- 19:44Speaker 3: think North Carolina's is a big of a storyline unless
- 19:46Speaker 3: they come out of nowhere and just completely have a
- 19:50Speaker 3: reversal of fortune. You know, last year, if you remember,
- 19:53Speaker 3: they were gifted a great schedule and went four and
- 19:56Speaker 3: eight with it. They have not been gifted that schedule
- 19:59Speaker 3: this time around. Schedule is much more difficult.
- 20:03Speaker 2: They are going to have almost.
- 20:04Speaker 3: As many new faces as they had a year ago,
- 20:06Speaker 3: yet they're gonna be less experienced. I love to hire
- 20:09Speaker 3: Bobby Patrino, but what can he get out of the quarterback?
- 20:12Speaker 2: And how much better can they be? They gotta be
- 20:15Speaker 2: able to run the football.
- 20:16Speaker 3: I mean last year North Carolina, when they ran for
- 20:18Speaker 3: one hundred and forty five yards or more per game,
- 20:22Speaker 3: they were three and oh they only won four games
- 20:24Speaker 3: all right? Last year at Arkansas there were only two
- 20:27Speaker 3: games where Bobby Patrino's offense didn't rush for one hundred
- 20:30Speaker 3: and forty five yards or more.
- 20:32Speaker 2: So they're going to try to run the.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Football North Carolina, and they need to because you don't
- 20:35Speaker 3: know what the quarterback.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Position is going to be just yet. Miami is to me,
- 20:41Speaker 2: they're the most talented team.
- 20:42Speaker 3: They have the best blend of high school developed recruits
- 20:45Speaker 3: and transfer portal additions.
- 20:47Speaker 2: For me, I don't think.
- 20:48Speaker 3: It's about how good Miami's gonna be or how good
- 20:50Speaker 3: they're capable of being. To me, it's going to be
- 20:53Speaker 3: all about did they spend their offseason reading their press clippings? Yeah,
- 20:57Speaker 3: and you know, the pats on the backs and the addible.
- 21:00Speaker 3: I mean that stuff starts sinking in and all of
- 21:02Speaker 3: a sudden, you know, you get caught up in it
- 21:05Speaker 3: and you lose your focus and you're not you know,
- 21:07Speaker 3: when you bring a new guys that weren't a part
- 21:08Speaker 3: of that run last year, they didn't have anything to
- 21:11Speaker 3: do with that. Now you got to establish that run
- 21:13Speaker 3: on your own with a new team and a new
- 21:15Speaker 3: locker room, a new leadership. And I think that's something
- 21:17Speaker 3: you know to keep an eye on with Miami. I
- 21:20Speaker 3: think Clemson is gonna be very interesting to watch because,
- 21:22Speaker 3: like I said, you know when, when was the last
- 21:23Speaker 3: time we were going into a preseason where all the
- 21:26Speaker 3: talk was it Clemson? You know, So it's gonna be interesting.
- 21:30Speaker 3: The quarterback play is actually pretty good in the ACC.
- 21:32Speaker 2: CJ. Bailey at Nancy State is a stud. Kevin Jennings
- 21:34Speaker 2: at SMU is a stud.
- 21:37Speaker 3: We obviously know Darien mensa big time player getting that
- 21:41Speaker 3: move to Miami. And you know, we'll see how the
- 21:44Speaker 3: whole thing plays out.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Lukes, we appreciate it.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Have a good week, my man.
- 21:48Speaker 2: You bet we'll do the same to you.
