- 0:02Tad Eggleston: Good evening, everybody. Welcome back to 22 Panels. If you're not paying enough attention, you may think that this is a heavy metal book club, though Matt hasn't popped in yet. But it's not!
- 0:13Tad Eggleston: Peter is the co-host, and Dylan is the guest, because we have Volume 4 already? Is it Volume 4 already?
- 0:22Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, it's crazy.
- 0:23Peter Eggleston Connor: Volume 4, Volume 3. Volume 3.
- 0:27Tad Eggleston: Right. Volume 4 of My Neighbor Necromancer. When does the Kickstarter roll out? Do we have.
- 0:33Dillon Gilbertson: Members…
- 0:34Tad Eggleston: date.
- 0:34Dillon Gilbertson: Yep, September 15th is when we're…
- 0:37Tad Eggleston: 15th, so, so mark your calendars, hit your remind me buttons in Kickstarter so it blasts you an email.
- 0:46Dillon Gilbertson: I would be… I would be a bad marketer if I didn't also remind everybody to get there in the first 24 hours, because that's your.
- 0:54Tad Eggleston: Well, I was… I was gonna go a step further.
- 0:58Dillon Gilbertson: Other rings.
- 0:58Tad Eggleston: They say, you get to race me to try to be Kickstarter number one.
- 1:02Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, yeah.
- 1:02Tad Eggleston: I've managed to be number one on a number of projects lately, and yours is always one of the ones that… I mean, I know I'm always gonna have to race Peter. It's like, which one of us will hit the button? And Matt, which one of us will hit the button the fastest when we get the email?
- 1:16Dillon Gilbertson: I love you guys.
- 1:17Tad Eggleston: But you guys, you won't even be able to try if you don't sign up to be reminded when it launches, because…
- 1:26Dillon Gilbertson: Even if you're not first.
- 1:28Dillon Gilbertson: If you back in the first 24 hours, you get a free bundle of temporary tattoos with the.
- 1:35Dillon Gilbertson: So that's what we'.
- 1:36Tad Eggleston: Oh, cool.
- 1:36Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 1:38Peter Eggleston Connor: I can't…
- 1:39Tad Eggleston: Peter's in Seattle now, so he'll, like, put the temporary tattoo on to be the…
- 1:44Tad Eggleston: The… the guide for the tattoo artist to make it permanent.
- 1:49Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, I have so many tattoos all over.
- 1:52Dillon Gilbertson: all the tattoos Peter's got. He had to get them to live in Seattle.
- 1:56Tad Eggleston: I was about to say, you live in the Pacific Northwest, so you'd better… you'd better work on that, or they're gonna kick you out.
- 2:02Dillon Gilbertson: The Seattle Freeze only thaws when you have at least 7 tattoos.
- 2:06Peter Eggleston Connor: I used to, like, want the Mandalorian tattoo on my shoulder.
- 2:12Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah!
- 2:13Peter Eggleston Connor: I never got around to doing that, and I'm not sure.
- 2:16Tad Eggleston: And now you've seated on the shoulders of too many dickweeds?
- 2:21Peter Eggleston Connor: I…
- 2:23Peter Eggleston Connor: Yes? No, I mean, like, I was just like… I don't know, the Boba Fett show did take a little bit out of the, mystery of Boba Fett.
- 2:36Tad Eggleston: No?
- 2:37Peter Eggleston Connor: It's great. I think they did a good job with it. That's not me dissing it, I just, like…
- 2:43Peter Eggleston Connor: you know, there was definitely an image I had of Boba Fett before and after that show, and… Right. Also, I think over the years, I just…
- 2:51Peter Eggleston Connor: Trying to drag it away from it. I wanted to find something more,
- 2:55Tad Eggleston: That's right, you wanted one pre-Mandalorian.
- 2:59Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah.
- 3:00Tad Eggleston: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I have to find somebody.
- 3:02Dillon Gilbertson: True.
- 3:02Tad Eggleston: You've been interested since Knights of the Old Republic.
- 3:05Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, yeah.
- 3:07Tad Eggleston: Yeah, okay.
- 3:09Dillon Gilbertson: Boba Fett was like a…
- 3:11Peter Eggleston Connor: I've been interested in Boba Fett since Boba Fett was on the TV screen!
- 3:15Tad Eggleston: Boba Fett, Boba Fett, WHERE?
- 3:17Dillon Gilbertson: Back from the holiday special, you mean, when it was on TV?
- 3:20Peter Eggleston Connor: No, I meant, like…
- 3:21Tad Eggleston: I wasn't alive for the holiday special.
- 3:24Peter Eggleston Connor: I,
- 3:25Tad Eggleston: I wasn't alive for the holiday special.
- 3:27Peter Eggleston Connor: I actually just meant when he was on, like, when we used to watch the movies when I was a kid.
- 3:33Tad Eggleston: Oh, okay.
- 3:34Dillon Gilbertson: On the silver screen, or on the… what's the… what's the T, the small screen? The silver screen's the movie theater.
- 3:40Peter Eggleston Connor: Movie theater.
- 3:42Tad Eggleston: tube.
- 3:42Dillon Gilbertson: What metal is the television? The copper?
- 3:44Tad Eggleston: Roob tube!
- 3:45Dillon Gilbertson: screen.
- 3:46Peter Eggleston Connor: Copper screen.
- 3:47Dillon Gilbertson: on screen.
- 3:48Peter Eggleston Connor: And, like…
- 3:49Dillon Gilbertson: gold screen.
- 3:50Tad Eggleston: I thought it was just the poop tube.
- 3:52Peter Eggleston Connor: I mean, it used to be called the boob tube, yeah.
- 3:54Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah. Well, there's no tubes in it now.
- 3:57Tad Eggleston: Yeah, you can't really call it a boob tube anymore.
- 3:59Dillon Gilbertson: It's the Boob OCD, or the Boob LCD.
- 4:02Dillon Gilbertson: UbOLED.
- 4:05Peter Eggleston Connor: No more tubes, just… light…
- 4:10Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 4:11Tad Eggleston: I, I mean, we, we, we, we, I thought you were gonna say, no more tubes, just boobs, and I was gonna remind you that this is, this is not the heavy metal…
- 4:20Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:21Tad Eggleston: This is the My Neighbor Necromancer, and that's, at least theoretically, a YA.
- 4:27Tad Eggleston: Middle brain.
- 4:29Dillon Gilbertson: Yay.
- 4:29Peter Eggleston Connor: Considering I didn't say that, and you did…
- 4:33Tad Eggleston: That's true, that's true.
- 4:34Dillon Gilbertson: If we kept the words relatively PG, we can… let's… let's… well, yeah, we'll… we'll take it back, let's take it back.
- 4:41Peter Eggleston Connor: Let's take it back, let's take it back. Back to my name.
- 4:42Dillon Gilbertson: I am.
- 4:44Tad Eggleston: So, Dylan, get us up to date. Where did we leave our protagonist? And what is in store for Issue 4?
- 4:54Dillon Gilbertson: In Issue 3, we saw… Jesse and Cyrano get an invitation to a place called The Body Farm.
- 5:02Dillon Gilbertson: by a man aptly named the Body Farmer. In Cyrno.
- 5:07Tad Eggleston: Whoa! Hold on a second, I have to ask an important question.
- 5:11Dillon Gilbertson: Ask away.
- 5:13Tad Eggleston: Where did you come up with that name?
- 5:15Dillon Gilbertson: The Body Farmer?
- 5:16Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 5:17Dillon Gilbertson: If I'm being honest, I got… I got the name from watching Fury Road, and there was a character called the Bullet Farmer, and I was like, that is so cool. And then I… and then it just bled into my consciousness while I was writing Necromancer, and I was like…
- 5:34Tad Eggleston: Okay, so did Body Farmer come before the Body Farm?
- 5:38Dillon Gilbertson: They're almost simultaneous, so… Okay. In Issue 3,
- 5:44Dillon Gilbertson: The body farmer, before he was the body farmer, we learn, lived on this farm.
- 5:50Dillon Gilbertson: Where the townsfolk had had enough with the Grim Reaper and taking away their loved ones, and so they revolted and… and killed death.
- 6:01Dillon Gilbertson: But in doing so, when they buried death, his essence bled into the earth.
- 6:06Dillon Gilbertson: And now death doesn't need an avatar. The Grim Reaper's no longer needed, because death is everywhere.
- 6:12Dillon Gilbertson: Just like it is in real life.
- 6:14Dillon Gilbertson: And so, and so the… because it comes from where death was buried, that energy is particularly potent on the body farm.
- 6:25Dillon Gilbertson: So nothing can survive there, save for the body farmer himself, who is the man who slew death, and so he is the only one capable of…
- 6:33Dillon Gilbertson: Of living on the farm.
- 6:35Dillon Gilbertson: What we will learn in Issue 4 is that… Prior to Rakut, Destroying the necromancy school.
- 6:48Dillon Gilbertson: The Body Farmer used to be the,
- 6:53Dillon Gilbertson: The, the seller of bodies for the students to use at the school for lessons.
- 7:00Dillon Gilbertson: And now that the school does not exist, the bodies are stacking up, and he doesn't know what to do with them, and so, the burial mounds have spread far past
- 7:10Dillon Gilbertson: Far past the farm itself, and so the whole place is surrounded by mounds and mounds of bodies buried beneath the earth.
- 7:19Dillon Gilbertson: So at the end of Issue 3,
- 7:21Dillon Gilbertson: Jesse and Cyrano have just arrived on the farm to a very rude greeting by the farm's guards.
- 7:29Dillon Gilbertson: Only to be saved at the last minute by the body farmer himself.
- 7:33Peter Eggleston Connor: I remember that. I was looking at it.
- 7:35Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah!
- 7:36Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah!
- 7:38Dillon Gilbertson: the… can we… can we talk a minute about the two guards? Because…
- 7:43Peter Eggleston Connor: Of course we.
- 7:43Dillon Gilbertson: The tree crossbow tractor guard with multiple hands on his hand is so cool.
- 7:55Dillon Gilbertson: This dude, look at his arm! Like, he's, like, he's got a hand that holds the crossbow, and then several other hands growing out of it in order to pull the string back.
- 8:03Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh yeah, it's…
- 8:04Dillon Gilbertson: I think that's one of the coolest things.
- 8:06Peter Eggleston Connor: You don't have to use a second arm to… to… you just need one arm for a crossbow. Yeah. The disadvantage to this is that, he doesn't really have a second arm. I mean, I guess he does, he has… instead of having legs, he has two arms at the bottom here.
- 8:23Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, so he sort of transports himself by dragging himself along the ground, because he's attached to this Thatcher.
- 8:30Dillon Gilbertson: with wheels on it, and he has these two giant arms that sort of pull himself around, and so whenever he needs more ammo for his crossbow, he just rips a tree out of the ground and throws it in there with his… his leg arms? I guess you could say?
- 8:43Peter Eggleston Connor: There you go.
- 8:44Dillon Gilbertson: I love that dude, he's so cool.
- 8:46Peter Eggleston Connor: He is pretty sweet.
- 8:48Dillon Gilbertson: I was so excited when Jason drew that, dude.
- 8:51Peter Eggleston Connor: That's… that… I mean, like, that's the type of thing where I love in this comic book, it would be super amazing to see in a game, too, where you, like, you know, had this amazing guy, but…
- 9:03Peter Eggleston Connor: I don't think it would ever be captured in quite the same essence as it is here, so…
- 9:08Dillon Gilbertson: It's super cool.
- 9:09Peter Eggleston Connor: That is super cool.
- 9:10Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 9:14Dillon Gilbertson: So yeah, and in the beginning of, of Issue 4,
- 9:18Dillon Gilbertson: The body farmer sort of welcomes them, and it sort of explains the reason for their invitation, which turns out to be, less than pleasant. This is the first time I've gotten to talk about the actual story of My Neighbor Necromancer issue 4.
- 9:37Dillon Gilbertson: like, not writing it, because I wrote it down in the… in the Kickstarter page, right? But this is the first time, like, actually talking about it in conversation with people, and so it's very diff… I have… it's very hard to tiptoe around spoilers for this issue, because a lot of things sort of come into…
- 9:55Dillon Gilbertson: come into place. All the pieces kind of start to fall into place. It's a very emotional story, like, the things kind of go off the rails quite a bit. And the one thing that, like, I… we don't think we could keep hidden is that Rakut finally returns. We haven't seen the big bad of the series since Issue 1.
- 10:14Dillon Gilbertson: And since then, they've just sort of talked about her, sort of in hushed tones.
- 10:17Peter Eggleston Connor: I was gonna say, I did notice that in the, the…
- 10:21Peter Eggleston Connor: video preview that you guys sent out, that there was quite a bit of imagery with rackets and, you know, some stuff going on there, too, so…
- 10:30Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, which I… I thought when I wrote it, I was like, this is gonna be a sweet reveal, and it's gonna blow everybody's minds, and I'm gonna keep it secret. But, like, there's… there's legitimately, and I'm not… not trying to be…
- 10:41Dillon Gilbertson: you know, a big marketer about it, or be the salesman about it. Like, there's just too many things in this. Like, if Rakut is the least…
- 10:52Dillon Gilbertson: the smallest thing that happens in terms of reveals in this one. I think there's a lot… it's a lot going on, and I think it's a really… it's a really cool issue. I've been thinking about this issue for years since we started making it, so I'm happy it's finally out.
- 11:06Peter Eggleston Connor: noise.
- 11:08Peter Eggleston Connor: I'm looking forward to it.
- 11:09Dillon Gilbertson: No.
- 11:10Peter Eggleston Connor: what do we got, Tad?
- 11:14Tad Eggleston: What level of production are we in at this point? Does Jason have pencil going, or is he waiting for the money?
- 11:20Dillon Gilbertson: Jason's waiting for the money, as we all should be.
- 11:23Tad Eggleston: Show me the money!
- 11:25Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, so the goal of the Kickstarter is for the artists on this book
- 11:34Dillon Gilbertson: Who… art is their full-time job.
- 11:37Dillon Gilbertson: And so, in order to do their full-time job, you know, you don't… working for free is not something anyone, I think, is fond of.
- 11:45Dillon Gilbertson: And so, we… we want to make sure that they are able to keep the lights on when… while they're making this book. And so,
- 11:55Dillon Gilbertson: We need to make sure that it's funded before we plow forward.
- 12:00Dillon Gilbertson: And so, Jason and Luca are amazing enough to get out the four preview pages, because we need something to show, right? We need to be able to bring in people with more than words.
- 12:13Dillon Gilbertson: And so they did the four preview pages, to bring people in, and now we're sort of resting to put all our energy towards promoting the Kickstarter for now.
- 12:23Tad Eggleston: And this is still targeted for 6… 6 issues?
- 12:28Dillon Gilbertson: It's targeted for 5 issues now.
- 12:30Tad Eggleston: Five issues.
- 12:31Tad Eggleston: Okay, so this'll be 80% of the way there.
- 12:34Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, so we're… this is the penultimate issue, which is sort of why everything is sort of coming to a head in this one.
- 12:42Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, we talked a lot about making it 6. It could have easily been 6, but we also really liked the idea of having some oversized issues to give people a bigger bang for their buck when they come for the book on Kickstarter.
- 12:57Dillon Gilbertson: And so this issue and the next issue will both be 32 pages, instead of the… instead of the usual 20, 24, 20, 26, or 28.
- 13:07Tad Eggleston: Okay.
- 13:09Tad Eggleston: What kind of… of fun swag are you planning? Does Peter get another map?
- 13:15Tad Eggleston: Will there be more teeth?
- 13:16Dillon Gilbertson: Another map.
- 13:18Dillon Gilbertson: Peter gets another map, and this…
- 13:20Peter Eggleston Connor: on our map!
- 13:21Dillon Gilbertson: Yay!
- 13:23Dillon Gilbertson: So…
- 13:24Dillon Gilbertson: We've talked about this a little bit before, off-stream or off pod, but the map is back. You'll be able to get a third map of the four collectible maps that will all come together to sort of show
- 13:38Dillon Gilbertson: most of the world that, that these characters exist in. But the map will not be made bought with the same material. Unfortunately, the vendor that we were ordering from discontinued the material, and we were not able to convince them to bring that material back just for us.
- 13:58Dillon Gilbertson: So, instead of this, this jute material, it's gonna be a weave loom material.
- 14:04Dillon Gilbertson: Which should be… should be roughly similar, but I… I'm unable to say exactly… physically unable, because I honestly don't know, how exact it's going to match. And that's something that we… we don't want to hide that from people. We're not trying to dupe people into getting it, because they think it's going to match perfectly. We want to be very upfront that the map is going to be different, unfortunately. We… we tried every which way we could, and
- 14:28Dillon Gilbertson: And the, the weave loom material is, is the, is…
- 14:32Dillon Gilbertson: the best of all the worlds that we had to sort of reconfigure to make it… make it work, because we still want… we still want this collectible map series to be a thing.
- 14:41Dillon Gilbertson: But, all that to say…
- 14:44Dillon Gilbertson: Yes, Peter will be able to get another man. For sure.
- 14:47Peter Eggleston Connor: Wow.
- 14:48Peter Eggleston Connor: I'm so excited.
- 14:49Tad Eggleston: T-shirts, pets, in the comic?
- 14:52Dillon Gilbertson: No…
- 14:53Tad Eggleston: Like, since… since the last volume, I had a cat die.
- 14:57Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, gosh.
- 14:58Dillon Gilbertson: Which cat? What was their name?
- 15:00Tad Eggleston: Matt died.
- 15:02Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, yeah, bad dot.
- 15:04Dillon Gilbertson: I'm sorry, man.
- 15:06Dillon Gilbertson: And so…
- 15:07Tad Eggleston: I can't get… I can't get a ghost mat, this issue?
- 15:09Dillon Gilbertson: A ghost map? Oh, a ghost map.
- 15:11Tad Eggleston: Ghost Matt.
- 15:13Tad Eggleston: In previous issues.
- 15:14Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, you're talking… you mean, like, for,
- 15:16Tad Eggleston: Drawn into the issue.
- 15:17Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, yeah.
- 15:18Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, yeah.
- 15:19Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, yeah. The… so, yeah, the familiar commissions are back.
- 15:24Tad Eggleston: Okay.
- 15:24Dillon Gilbertson: you will 100% be able to get, a Ghost Max. So normally what we offer for,
- 15:31Dillon Gilbertson: for the…
- 15:33Dillon Gilbertson: pet familiar commissions is any degree of decay, and so it's usually a physical body, and then you can choose whether it's in advanced decay, or no decay at all, or anywhere in between. But if you want a ghost, Matt.
- 15:47Dillon Gilbertson: I can get Jason to do a ghost for you.
- 15:49Tad Eggleston: Yeah, we'll figure it out. It doesn't have to be a ghost mat. I just meant… I just meant that, that, like…
- 15:55Tad Eggleston: My kitty died.
- 15:56Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, absolutely. We'll get you a pet commission for sure, and you can also…
- 16:03Tad Eggleston: Kitty.
- 16:03Dillon Gilbertson: You can also pick,
- 16:05Peter Eggleston Connor: Somewhere in my head… sorry, I just had to mention this, because we're… we're almost… we're three-quarters of the Heavy Metal Podcast here. Somewhere in my head, I just wanted Matt to be the actual cat.
- 16:19Peter Eggleston Connor: Well, not really, because I would like to see Matt again, and I just thought it would be funny, but just so our viewers know, Matt the cat was a dear, beloved pet. Matt, our, other co…
- 16:34Tad Eggleston: Yeah, he's still alive.
- 16:35Peter Eggleston Connor: He's still alive.
- 16:36Tad Eggleston: Matt from the heavy metal, he's, he's still, he's still alive.
- 16:40Peter Eggleston Connor: Sorry, Dillon, go ahead, go ahead.
- 16:42Dillon Gilbertson: What, what, what, we… so, for the commissions, we also offer accessories. You can choose…
- 16:51Dillon Gilbertson: you can choose any number of usual, like, necromancy accessories, like a staff, or a tome, or their favorite toy, but, like, what would you… do you have one in mind? Is there an accessory that you would like, that you think Matt would enjoy most, or that you would like to see.
- 17:06Tad Eggleston: I mean, I don't know. Matt wasn't always an accessory guy.
- 17:11Tad Eggleston: It's gonna be… I'm trying to find a good picture to show you, and I wonder if they're all on my phone, because even the one that's my background picture here, I don't know where I found it from, because it's not in my…
- 17:26Tad Eggleston: Maybe, maybe have Google file pictures.
- 17:30Dillon Gilbertson: I live for pet photos, so we need to have that.
- 17:32Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 17:33Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 17:34Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, we're… we're… we… we're all about pets. In… in My Neighbor Necromancer, like, most… most of the… the familiars, and, the… the summoned…
- 17:46Dillon Gilbertson: beings, are… artistic versions of real-life pets from our friends, and so…
- 17:53Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 17:54Dillon Gilbertson: Gavin… Gavin was, the… the cat of our friend Alex.
- 17:59Dillon Gilbertson: Cannoli was… was the dog who belonged to our friend Grant.
- 18:05Dillon Gilbertson: Bibbets… Bibbets was the name of, of a pet my wife's mom had when she was a child.
- 18:13Dillon Gilbertson: And so, we… we've found a lot of joy in being able to give those pets sort of a second life, and have them… and we… we've made this agreement, that for all the pets that are indeed based on real pets, that nothing… nothing bad is…
- 18:30Dillon Gilbertson: Nothing permanently bad is ever to happen.
- 18:32Tad Eggleston: Nothing bad happens to them, I like that.
- 18:35Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah.
- 18:36Dillon Gilbertson: Nothing permanently bad. I can't say that, because Bibbetts famously died.
- 18:39Tad Eggleston: No, no, I understand.
- 18:40Dillon Gilbertson: But he's good to go. He's… he's fine.
- 18:44Tad Eggleston: Yeah, no, I understand that.
- 18:47Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, but…
- 18:51Tad Eggleston: worries.
- 18:54Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, we had, we also have our map page, per tradition, so we get to see
- 19:00Dillon Gilbertson: Cyrano and Jesse, travel across the Deadlands again.
- 19:06Dillon Gilbertson: Up to the… up to the ruins of the necromancy school. But the way the map is oriented, we had… we… we struggled with figuring out ways to guide the reader's eye from… to the bottom of the page, in order for them to read from bottom to top.
- 19:22Dillon Gilbertson: Because… and there's only so many ways you can do it, and so we… we tried to find some, what I think are fairly creative ways to try and guide people's eyes over there, so hopefully… hopefully if you're listening to this, you'll…
- 19:35Dillon Gilbertson: you'll know that we… you're reading… you're reading the map page from bottom to top in issue 4.
- 19:43Tad Eggleston: I totally forgot that, that, like, there's a separate picture folder, rather than pictures being in documents.
- 19:49Dillon Gilbertson: Oh my gosh, look at this cat! Look at this cat!
- 19:52Tad Eggleston: Yeah, he decided he was at the head of the table for Thanksgiving one year.
- 19:56Dillon Gilbertson: Yes!
- 19:57Peter Eggleston Connor: Heck yeah.
- 19:58Dillon Gilbertson: I mean, he gets to carve the turkey?
- 20:00Tad Eggleston: Nobody certainly ate some of it.
- 20:02Dillon Gilbertson: There you go.
- 20:03Peter Eggleston Connor: Well, that's good.
- 20:05Dillon Gilbertson: Oh my gosh, the coloring on his face is amazing.
- 20:07Peter Eggleston Connor: Did he get a roll, too?
- 20:09Peter Eggleston Connor: No.
- 20:10Dillon Gilbertson: He better get a roll. Does he even want a roll? Would the cat eat a roll?
- 20:14Tad Eggleston: I don't know if he cared about the.
- 20:15Dillon Gilbertson: Hmm.
- 20:16Tad Eggleston: But I loved that, like, I set the table, and when I came back to get… that was the chair that I was gonna be sitting.
- 20:23Dillon Gilbertson: in.
- 20:25Dillon Gilbertson: He looks… he looks like a dad who's, like, at the end of his.
- 20:28Tad Eggleston: Oh, yeah, no.
- 20:29Tad Eggleston: Owned the house.
- 20:30Dillon Gilbertson: You kid, don't shut up and stop bothering your mother.
- 20:32Tad Eggleston: Totally owned the house.
- 20:35Dillon Gilbertson: Oh my god.
- 20:35Tad Eggleston: That's… that's just how Matt rolled.
- 20:37Dillon Gilbertson: I love him. I love Matt.
- 20:39Tad Eggleston: This is another good one.
- 20:41Tad Eggleston: We'll share some good map pictures.
- 20:44Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, my God.
- 20:45Tad Eggleston: You're gonna have to describe… I mean, Mom and Adam knew Matt.
- 20:48Tad Eggleston: And they're the big listeners, but other people have to describe for the people
- 20:54Tad Eggleston: Now, it may look like he's sticking his tongue out at the camera here, but he actually had, like, a 4-month period where
- 21:02Tad Eggleston: We eventually discovered that he had a couple teeth that needed to be pulled, but, like, this was his standard look.
- 21:08Dillon Gilbertson: Just tung out.
- 21:10Tad Eggleston: Yeah, he would have his tongue just a little bit out.
- 21:13Peter Eggleston Connor: So we need to describe this cat for our viewers that aren't, you know, the ones who knew Matt personally.
- 21:20Tad Eggleston: I mean, I suppose you don't have to go nuts, too.
- 21:22Peter Eggleston Connor: Well, I wasn't gonna go nuts, I was gonna say, like, Matt here has his, what is the term for the black tuxedo cat?
- 21:32Tad Eggleston: Oh, yeah, he's a tuxedo cat. Yeah.
- 21:34Peter Eggleston Connor: He's a tuxedo cat, but…
- 21:35Tad Eggleston: Very stately.
- 21:36Peter Eggleston Connor: He's got this, like, black face, and in the middle of the black face, he has a fidget spinner of what…
- 21:42Dillon Gilbertson: That's how I was.
- 21:42Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 21:43Dillon Gilbertson: I was like, I don't know.
- 21:44Tad Eggleston: Oh.
- 21:44Dillon Gilbertson: that shake.
- 21:45Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, they…
- 21:46Dillon Gilbertson: Right.
- 21:47Tad Eggleston: See, see, I, I, I love… wait a minute.
- 21:52Dillon Gilbertson: But his nose is black, too, so it's a fidget spinner with, like, a black center on it.
- 21:57Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, I mean, like, it's a legit finished spinner. It's got the, like, little circle in the middle.
- 22:01Dillon Gilbertson: Literally what it is.
- 22:05Peter Eggleston Connor: I mean, the.
- 22:05Tad Eggleston: Now…
- 22:05Peter Eggleston Connor: A little bit of a triangle, but you know…
- 22:08Tad Eggleston: In a second, we're gonna have the, the, the… yeah, Matt as an elephant. Now…
- 22:15Tad Eggleston: Look carefully at his eye, and you will know how little time the elephant costume…
- 22:22Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 22:23Tad Eggleston: Stayed on his head.
- 22:24Dillon Gilbertson: I will end all of you. He is not having with his elevator.
- 22:28Tad Eggleston: It's like, I know where you sleep, is what he's telling us there.
- 22:33Peter Eggleston Connor: It pretty much is like, I have amused you, and that's the.
- 22:36Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 22:36Peter Eggleston Connor: Gus.
- 22:38Tad Eggleston: This is one of my favorites, Matt Inside the Shark.
- 22:40Peter Eggleston Connor: Okay, but, like, let's go back to that picture for a second.
- 22:44Tad Eggleston: Which one?
- 22:45Peter Eggleston Connor: The man inside the shark.
- 22:47Tad Eggleston: Oh, okay.
- 22:48Dillon Gilbertson: Is it a shark or is it an elephant?
- 22:50Tad Eggleston: It's a shark.
- 22:51Tad Eggleston: No, no, he hadn't…
- 22:52Peter Eggleston Connor: There are two different ones.
- 22:54Tad Eggleston: He had an elephant.
- 22:55Dillon Gilbertson: So, hear me out, hear me out on this. What if…
- 22:58Dillon Gilbertson: What if it was a commission of Matt, wearing…
- 23:03Dillon Gilbertson: The skull… the skull of a very small shark on its head as a hat.
- 23:07Tad Eggleston: Oh, that would be cool.
- 23:08Dillon Gilbertson: Almost like a Cuban situation.
- 23:09Peter Eggleston Connor: Are we talking about the elephant, or are we talking about the shark one?
- 23:13Dillon Gilbertson: The shark one. Oh, that was… oh, oh, that. I was talking about… okay, alright.
- 23:17Peter Eggleston Connor: We're talking.
- 23:17Tad Eggleston: The other one was the elephant, but I…
- 23:19Dillon Gilbertson: But I like that.
- 23:20Tad Eggleston: the shark skull. The shark skull sounds cool. Okay. That sounds very mad.
- 23:24Dillon Gilbertson: Right. Yeah.
- 23:26Peter Eggleston Connor: I wonder if Matt could just live in a shark's skull?
- 23:29Dillon Gilbertson: That would be cool, too, just have a shark skull and, like, have him be sitting in there, kind of like that.
- 23:33Tad Eggleston: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:35Peter Eggleston Connor: Yep, very kingly.
- 23:36Dillon Gilbertson: The world is our undead oyster, guys. It's our zombie oyster.
- 23:40Peter Eggleston Connor: Zombie-ois.
- 23:41Tad Eggleston: But yeah, Matt ruled the roost.
- 23:44Tad Eggleston: So I was, I was, I was very, very sad to… to lose my mat.
- 23:48Peter Eggleston Connor: I have money.
- 23:50Tad Eggleston: He, he… It was… I think 11. So he had a decent… You know, he wasn't young.
- 23:58Tad Eggleston: But… but it was still.
- 24:00Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, yeah, but he was a good companion for 11 years, I mean…
- 24:05Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 24:06Peter Eggleston Connor: Doesn't matter how young or old he was.
- 24:09Tad Eggleston: Right, right.
- 24:12Tad Eggleston: So yeah, that, that, that, that was my map.
- 24:15Tad Eggleston: we got Matt when he fit in my hand.
- 24:18Tad Eggleston: And… and… He became a very big kitty, but not a fat kitty.
- 24:24Tad Eggleston: Just a…
- 24:25Dillon Gilbertson: When He fit in your hand, and then… and then made His home in our hearts.
- 24:29Tad Eggleston: Right. Well, but when he fit in our hand was when he also managed to take over the house.
- 24:36Dillon Gilbertson: Oh.
- 24:37Tad Eggleston: It was, like, a pound, and he dominated the 20-pound dog.
- 24:43Peter Eggleston Connor: Just to, you know, essentially, the bigger he grew, the more power he had.
- 24:50Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 24:50Peter Eggleston Connor: what I'm hearing.
- 24:52Tad Eggleston: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:52Dillon Gilbertson: He could dominate the house as inside the palm of your hand. I can't imagine how…
- 25:00Tad Eggleston: Oh, by the time he was 20.
- 25:01Dillon Gilbertson: I go over as a large cat.
- 25:03Tad Eggleston: we only were kind of joking when we asked our real estate agent if we should have Matt's name on the mortgage.
- 25:17Dillon Gilbertson: Love that.
- 25:18Tad Eggleston: Because it was very much Matt's house.
- 25:21Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, Matt said, you're just living in it.
- 25:23Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 25:25Tad Eggleston: But…
- 25:25Peter Eggleston Connor: I'll leave it to you, but…
- 25:27Tad Eggleston: But he, he was benevolent. He was benevolent. He was,
- 25:32Tad Eggleston: You know, he always acted like he didn't like Sal.
- 25:35Tad Eggleston: But he would knock treats off the top of the refrigerator for him.
- 25:39Dillon Gilbertson: Is Sal Other Cat?
- 25:40Tad Eggleston: Sal was… Sal was the dog that actually passed away before Matt, but he was also older than Matt. Sal was Kelly's dog that she'd had for longer than she knew me.
- 25:51Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, I see.
- 25:52Tad Eggleston: And they pretended to have nothing to do with each other.
- 25:56Tad Eggleston: Until Sal got sick, and Matt did… Matt spent a lot of time grooming him when he was sick.
- 26:01Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, that's nice.
- 26:02Tad Eggleston: Yeah. But until then, they totally pretended to have nothing to do with each other.
- 26:07Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 26:08Tad Eggleston: like…
- 26:10Tad Eggleston: Sometimes we'd open the door, and the recliner would be swinging, because they would have both jumped off of it together to make it clear that they never, ever sat together.
- 26:30Tad Eggleston: I mean, their first… their first altercation was over the recliner.
- 26:34Tad Eggleston: It was… it was Matt's first night in the house.
- 26:37Tad Eggleston: Again, he fit in the palm of my hand.
- 26:41Tad Eggleston: Sal had been… had been sleeping on the recliner, got up to go to the bathroom. While Kelly let him out, Matt went over to the climber… recliner, CLIMED UP!
- 26:52Tad Eggleston: It was way too far for him to jump at that point.
- 26:55Tad Eggleston: Climbed up.
- 26:58Tad Eggleston: And plopped himself Dead center in the middle of the seat.
- 27:06Tad Eggleston: And went to sleep Or at least appeared to go to sleep.
- 27:11Tad Eggleston: Sal came back in.
- 27:13Tad Eggleston: And was, you know, was taking the trot, and was about to jump, and saw the cat, and stopped dead.
- 27:20Tad Eggleston: He looked, then he looked at Kelly, He looked… You looked at Kelly?
- 27:27Tad Eggleston: And I started to say, hey, Matt, I think you can share the seat, and Matt opened one eye.
- 27:34Tad Eggleston: And Salvador spun around and ran over and curled up in the dog pillow.
- 27:45Tad Eggleston: Now, again, 20-pound Toto dog!
- 27:49Tad Eggleston: One pound tuxedo kitty!
- 27:52Dillon Gilbertson: Oh my gosh.
- 27:53Peter Eggleston Connor: There you go.
- 27:55Tad Eggleston: But again, eventually it became… Salvador was a very well-behaved puppy. He would never dream of climbing on chairs or tables to get things like potato chips. However, he was all… he also understood that his job was to clean up
- 28:10Tad Eggleston: crumbs and stuff on the floor. So if there happened to be an open bag of chips on the table, Sal would just kinda…
- 28:18Tad Eggleston: Lounge underneath it until Matt, who had absolutely no compunctions about rules, because it's his house, he makes the rules.
- 28:28Tad Eggleston: would jump up!
- 28:30Tad Eggleston: Knocked the potato chips onto the floor, at which point, Sal was morally obligated to clean them up.
- 28:39Dillon Gilbertson: Mmm.
- 28:40Peter Eggleston Connor: I mean…
- 28:47Tad Eggleston: That was how our… that was how our house worked with Matt and Sal.
- 28:51Tad Eggleston: And, and Matt allowed for… Two new kitties and a new dog on his watch.
- 28:59Tad Eggleston: But he made certain that they all knew who was king.
- 29:04Tad Eggleston: He was… he was particularly good with, with… with Eddie.
- 29:10Tad Eggleston: who, like, anytime Eddie started to get uppity, even though it was the old man versus the young guy, Matt would, like.
- 29:18Tad Eggleston: Pound him. Like, pound him, pound him.
- 29:24Tad Eggleston: And for that matter, my favorite was when, like, Matt would pretend to sleep on…
- 29:29Tad Eggleston: on, like, the top of a couch or something above Eddie.
- 29:33Tad Eggleston: And just… accidentally…
- 29:37Tad Eggleston: wave his tail across Eddie's face until it annoyed Eddie, and Eddie decided to try to do something about it, at which point Matt would pound him.
- 29:50Tad Eggleston: So, you know, there's… when… when you start writing for Matt, Dillon, I think I've given you…
- 29:57Tad Eggleston: Deep understanding of his character.
- 30:01Tad Eggleston: He was a benevolent king, but he was the king.
- 30:05Dillon Gilbertson: I will… you'll… I'll play this…
- 30:08Dillon Gilbertson: section of the podcast for Jason when he's… when he's drawing it, and it'll be his… his drawing music.
- 30:15Tad Eggleston: Yeah, I'll send you pictures.
- 30:18Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:19Tad Eggleston: And I'm certain that I'll arrange to pay for the,
- 30:22Tad Eggleston: the, the, the, the level. You don't have to do this for me for free.
- 30:26Tad Eggleston: And I know that you have that wonderful level.
- 30:29Tad Eggleston: That people should take advantage of.
- 30:31Dillon Gilbertson: Say that one more time? Oh, the…
- 30:33Tad Eggleston: I said, I will pay for my appropriate level. Wow, yes.
- 30:39Tad Eggleston: a soul.
- 30:41Dillon Gilbertson: There's no way we're ever getting rid of that tier. I love it, and people love it, and like…
- 30:47Dillon Gilbertson: I don't know, I, that's one of the most special things about doing the Kickstarters, is… because what happens, too, is people… I get to see… one, I get to see pictures of people's pets.
- 30:59Dillon Gilbertson: And that's… that's number one motivation. Love that.
- 31:03Dillon Gilbertson: But then, like, they'll tell me stories about the pets, and, like, to try and give an accurate picture of their personality and stuff on it, and, like.
- 31:09Tad Eggleston: You mean like I just did?
- 31:10Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, exactly… I'm telling you, exactly. I love hearing stuff like that about people's pets, and, like, how much joy they bring them.
- 31:20Tad Eggleston: There was one other great story from that first night.
- 31:23Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 31:24Tad Eggleston: It was before… it was before the chair story. It was, like, his first attempt at taking over.
- 31:32Tad Eggleston: He'd run behind our couch, and gone under the end table.
- 31:37Tad Eggleston: And you saw Sal just out in the open in the living room.
- 31:41Tad Eggleston: And he… Bolted towards him.
- 31:45Tad Eggleston: And leaped, and was going at him.
- 31:48Tad Eggleston: Claws out, like he was gonna, like…
- 31:52Tad Eggleston: And, like, thought better of it mid-air.
- 31:56Tad Eggleston: It's fun!
- 31:57Dillon Gilbertson: That's the wrong place to have a regret, is midair.
- 32:00Tad Eggleston: SPUN!
- 32:02Tad Eggleston: Knocked the side… knocked his side against Southside.
- 32:07Tad Eggleston: landed on his feet, shot back under the end table, while Sal went, Something just happened?
- 32:19Dillon Gilbertson: Oh my god. I love it.
- 32:23Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, Sal.
- 32:25Tad Eggleston: Well, I mean, 1 pound cap versus 20… like, it… it probably… it's like, was there a stiff breeze in the living room? I'm not used to wind in the living room.
- 32:36Dillon Gilbertson: This cat seems like a boss, and I love him.
- 32:38Tad Eggleston: He was. He was. Total boss.
- 32:41Tad Eggleston: Total boss.
- 32:42Dillon Gilbertson: Amazing.
- 32:43Tad Eggleston: I still miss him.
- 32:46Tad Eggleston: I don't love this.
- 32:48Tad Eggleston: My kitty.
- 32:50Dillon Gilbertson: We'll get you a commission, no matter what.
- 32:51Tad Eggleston: Yeah. Yeah.
- 32:53Tad Eggleston: So, we got, we got tattoos, we got maps, we got pet commissions, any other cool stuff?
- 33:02Dillon Gilbertson: We got a couple of…
- 33:05Dillon Gilbertson: unlocks. So we have… we have some…
- 33:10Dillon Gilbertson: some stretch goals that, are they called stretch goals when they're, like, in the middle of the campaign? Stretch goals always makes me think, like, once you reach the goal of the campaign, then stuff beyond that.
- 33:20Dillon Gilbertson: But we've got stuff, in the middle, and so once you… once we unlock, a certain number of backers, we've got some mystery stuff that we're gonna unlock for people.
- 33:29Dillon Gilbertson: Awesome. Some cool physical rewards for everyone. We've got the first 48.
- 33:36Dillon Gilbertson: The first 48…
- 33:39Dillon Gilbertson: reward level, so if you, if you pledge for that one, it's only available for the first 48 hours.
- 33:44Dillon Gilbertson: But you're gonna get… you're gonna get a bunch of stickers, you'll get some prints, you'll get,
- 33:50Dillon Gilbertson: You'll get…
- 33:50Tad Eggleston: Workers are cool.
- 33:52Dillon Gilbertson: You'll get cover A and cover B. So the covers for this one, we didn't have a variant cover drawn by a different artist. Instead, rather, Jason drew two covers that will connect in the middle, and so if you get both.
- 34:06Tad Eggleston: Okay.
- 34:06Dillon Gilbertson: of them, they will combine to make a full… a full image, and so we're super jazzed about that one.
- 34:16Tad Eggleston: like stickers. I put stickers on lots of things.
- 34:19Dillon Gilbertson: Yep, stickers, stickers, stickers.
- 34:20Tad Eggleston: Except that I don't know how to put my laptop camera on the outside of my laptop, I'd show you all the stickers on my laptop.
- 34:28Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, yeah, I was like…
- 34:29Tad Eggleston: I think I'd.
- 34:30Dillon Gilbertson: I think.
- 34:30Tad Eggleston: I think I'd have to hook up another camera to be able to do that.
- 34:34Peter Eggleston Connor: And there's this, there's this nifty invention called a cell phone.
- 34:38Tad Eggleston: Oh, there is, there is, I could do it that way.
- 34:41Tad Eggleston: Or I do have a separate webcamber that.
- 34:44Peter Eggleston Connor: That is wicked cool, Dillon.
- 34:45Dillon Gilbertson: So I also am a sticker aficion. I have a bunch on my laptop, but there's only so much room on my laptop.
- 34:51Tad Eggleston: Yep, yep, yep.
- 34:52Dillon Gilbertson: I've got all these ones on this…
- 35:00Tad Eggleston: Peter's reminding me of the cell phone, so we're… we're gonna… we're gonna take the picture that'll just be for you guys, because…
- 35:07Tad Eggleston: Because I have a text thread with you.
- 35:09Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, there you go. Oh, Banjo-Kazooie!
- 35:13Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, man!
- 35:16Dillon Gilbertson: Man, Banjo-Kazooie's so good. I remember in middle school, I had the option to buy Banjo-Kazooie, or a game called Nightmare Creatures, and everybody at the time, my friends, who are all also horror fiends, I love horror.
- 35:30Dillon Gilbertson: They were… they got mad at me because I bought Banjo-Kazooie instead, because I love that game.
- 35:37Dillon Gilbertson: Like, how could you do that instead of nightmare creatures? Well…
- 35:41Dillon Gilbertson: I want to ride a bird.
- 35:42Dillon Gilbertson: I want to walk around with this bird, with a bear on my back.
- 35:48Tad Eggleston: I should turn the… I'm trying to do a crazy angle rather than just, like, moving the laptop.
- 35:55Peter Eggleston Connor: Honestly, but I think you made the right choice, because I had to go remind myself what Nightmare Creatures even was.
- 36:02Dillon Gilbertson: It looks like garbage.
- 36:05Peter Eggleston Connor: the…
- 36:06Dillon Gilbertson: That might just be, like, the, the, you know, the result of time.
- 36:11Tad Eggleston: But also, you were in middle school, so, like, Nightmare vs. Banjo, that's why your friends gave.
- 36:17Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, but it was bad, it was… yeah, well…
- 36:21Dillon Gilbertson: I mean, I… I… I mean, don't get me wrong, when I was in middle school, like, I was also very into nightmare creatures.
- 36:28Dillon Gilbertson: I had rented it from… from Blockbuster a couple times.
- 36:33Dillon Gilbertson: But then, I don't know, Banjo-Kazooie was just a much better game, and I was very into it. Played a lot of it. Collected all the jiggies.
- 36:40Peter Eggleston Connor: I mean, like, that makes sense to me. I'm not saying, like, you know, Nightmare Creatures was terrible at the time, though, I never played it, so I don't fully know.
- 36:51Dillon Gilbertson: Alright, let's the only one.
- 36:51Peter Eggleston Connor: Honestly, I… I can also say I never played Banjo-Kazooie, which is kind of strange, since that actually seems like something I would have…
- 36:59Dillon Gilbertson: I think they remade it for a bit, or for something. I'm looking at, looking at Tad's laptop now, and is this a dead man? Looks like it's drawn by the animators of Rick and Morty, this dead man you got on here.
- 37:10Tad Eggleston: Well, not quite. It's drawn by Kyle Starks, who's done some of the Rick and Morty.
- 37:15Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, okay, yeah, that checks out.
- 37:17Tad Eggleston: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:18Tad Eggleston: It's from his sticker club, as is…
- 37:22Dillon Gilbertson: The Absolute Wonder Woman.
- 37:23Tad Eggleston: As is the Absolute Wonder Woman, yeah.
- 37:24Dillon Gilbertson: Perfect, love it, love it.
- 37:26Peter Eggleston Connor: move.
- 37:27Dillon Gilbertson: What is this Shank SpaghettiOs?
- 37:30Tad Eggleston: Oh, jim Terry… Made a movie last year.
- 37:36Tad Eggleston: Okay. Jim Terry, the comic artist that works with, with,
- 37:42Tad Eggleston: Tim Seeley a lot, and did Come Home Indio. Did a movie called Shank.
- 37:48Tad Eggleston: And… and it… it had… it had SpaghettiOs in it.
- 37:52Tad Eggleston: And at one of the screenings that I went to.
- 37:56Tad Eggleston: They gave away the sticker with the SpaghettiOs.
- 37:59Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, yeah.
- 38:00Dillon Gilbertson: Here, I'm gonna send you a picture of mine as well. This is great, this is great audio content, us showing.
- 38:04Tad Eggleston: It is, isn't it?
- 38:05Dillon Gilbertson: Stickers on our laptop.
- 38:08Dillon Gilbertson: Love it.
- 38:09Peter Eggleston Connor: I mean, people have gotten, like, things like Wonder Woman and, you know…
- 38:14Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 38:15Tad Eggleston: Actually, the…
- 38:16Peter Eggleston Connor: Morty out of it.
- 38:18Tad Eggleston: The newest sticker that I put on it that Kelly just got me and I just loved was,
- 38:24Tad Eggleston: the… the… you see the one up in the corner next to Free Speech that says, I'm silently creating a spreadsheet for that?
- 38:36Dillon Gilbertson: That's great. So I see that you got Jeff on here.
- 38:40Tad Eggleston: Yep.
- 38:40Dillon Gilbertson: If we… so, when we were writing issue 3 of Necromancer, We…
- 38:45Tad Eggleston: Yours is very cool, too.
- 38:48Dillon Gilbertson: I love… I'm obsessed with every single sticker I have on my laptop, and it's unfortunate because there's too many, and I've had to cover some of them.
- 38:54Tad Eggleston: Yeah, they're starting to cross over. I'm reaching that point, too, where it's like, how much more can I fit?
- 39:02Peter Eggleston Connor: You got Appa on there, which is super sweet, and then you got your fucking awesome My Neighbor Necromancer.
- 39:09Peter Eggleston Connor: Stickers.
- 39:11Peter Eggleston Connor: I don't know that I… I can't disagree with you, like…
- 39:14Tad Eggleston: this.
- 39:15Peter Eggleston Connor: What do you do other than… is that Spider Punk? Yeah, that looks like Spider-Punk!
- 39:20Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, the antagonized Fascist sticker.
- 39:22Tad Eggleston: This is… this is why a lot of my stickers go on my comic boxes, because if I fill one up, I can just buy another.
- 39:30Dillon Gilbertson: There's way more room on there, too.
- 39:32Tad Eggleston: Well, no, I put them on a… not the, like, short boxes, but, like, the… I mean, there is more room, but… but, like, the hard cases that you can take to the shop to bring your stuff home with you?
- 39:42Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 39:43Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:44Tad Eggleston: Those… those are the ones that I fill up with stickers.
- 39:46Dillon Gilbertson: I got you.
- 39:47Peter Eggleston Connor: Nice.
- 39:48Tad Eggleston: Oh, here, I have… I have one within reach.
- 39:51Tad Eggleston: This is the one… this isn't even done, it's got some…
- 39:54Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, yeah.
- 39:55Tad Eggleston: stuff, and it's.
- 39:57Dillon Gilbertson: That's cool.
- 39:58Tad Eggleston: Some… some booger bear, and some… Oh my god.
- 40:03Dillon Gilbertson: Booker Bear.
- 40:04Tad Eggleston: Booger Bear is my friend… my friend Andrew's character. It's got Mary Tyler Moorhawk.
- 40:10Dillon Gilbertson: Oh yeah, that's sick!
- 40:12Tad Eggleston: You know, it's got, it's got the bean, carabines bean.
- 40:18Dillon Gilbertson: Yep.
- 40:20Dillon Gilbertson: Another one of those free press, free speech ones on there?
- 40:22Tad Eggleston: Yep. It's got,
- 40:25Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 40:26Tad Eggleston: Writer's Guild.
- 40:28Tad Eggleston: strike sticker.
- 40:29Tad Eggleston: It's got, Spencer Ackerman's Iron Man Against Security.
- 40:35Tad Eggleston: national security sticker, it's got a Nicole Goo… Sticker.
- 40:43Tad Eggleston: I like… I like the panda ones, though, from Jesse Lanigan. That was before he started putting them in a comic book.
- 40:48Dillon Gilbertson: I love those.
- 40:51Tad Eggleston: So…
- 40:52Tad Eggleston: But yeah, no, generally before I stop putting stickers on these, I fill up, like, the whole front, the whole back, and often.
- 41:00Tad Eggleston: All of this part and this.
- 41:02Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, yeah.
- 41:03Tad Eggleston: And then it's time to get another.
- 41:04Dillon Gilbertson: And those are seeker stickers, that's… that's a great… yeah.
- 41:08Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, so…
- 41:10Dillon Gilbertson: Some… some behind-the-scenes from Issue 3 of Necromancer. We… when we were writing that, well, when I was writing it, and Jason was drawing it, Jeff… Jeff, the land shark was having his big moment, and he was exploding, and everybody…
- 41:24Tad Eggleston: He's still having his big.
- 41:25Dillon Gilbertson: That's what I'm saying, he's very popular.
- 41:28Tad Eggleston: I love Jeff.
- 41:29Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, I also love Jeff. I'm obsessed with Jeff. Doug's name was originally Jeff.
- 41:34Tad Eggleston: Kelly will be happy to hear that you're also obsessed with Jeff.
- 41:39Dillon Gilbertson: Legitimate.
- 41:39Tad Eggleston: She's so pleased with the number of people who love Jeff.
- 41:43Dillon Gilbertson: We were… so when we were writing Issue 3, Doug, the mailman, his original name was Jeff. And I was like… and I was like, we can't…
- 41:51Dillon Gilbertson: We can't. We gotta change his name. There can't be another Jeff, because there's only one Jeff, and he's Jeff the Landshark, and so we had… we… so we changed his name. I won't admit that anywhere else but here, but… Oh, look at him!
- 42:03Tad Eggleston: See, Jeff?
- 42:06Tad Eggleston: I got Jeff up on my wall.
- 42:08Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, there he is.
- 42:10Peter Eggleston Connor: I believe you.
- 42:14Dillon Gilbertson: I keep talking so it doesn't show for Peter, and then Peter keeps talking so it doesn't show for me.
- 42:19Peter Eggleston Connor: No, you're fine. I mean, like, I…
- 42:21Tad Eggleston: We're back in the corner so you can.
- 42:23Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, I see it now, I see it, okay, I see it. It's… it's… it took me a little while, because it's, like, far away, and then…
- 42:30Tad Eggleston: Yeah. It is… it is one of the three full-size posters, though. The three full-size posters are… are…
- 42:38Tad Eggleston: The movie poster for Professor Marston and the Wonder Women, which was drawn by Terry Moore.
- 42:46Tad Eggleston: The Lovin' Rockets 40.
- 42:49Tad Eggleston: And it's Jeff.
- 42:51Dillon Gilbertson: It's Jeff. It's always Jeff.
- 42:53Tad Eggleston: Yeah, yeah.
- 42:55Dillon Gilbertson: Jeff forever and ever. It's Jeff's all the way down.
- 42:58Tad Eggleston: Hmm.
- 42:59Tad Eggleston: The prints are mostly smaller.
- 43:04Tad Eggleston: But I got a Dennis Cowan, and a Klaus Jansen, and a Chyna Flores, and a Damon Hampton, and then over there, I've got…
- 43:16Tad Eggleston: Chris Schweiser's 3 Indiana Jones posters, and Kyle Stark's Indiana Jones scene.
- 43:22Dillon Gilbertson: Oh.
- 43:23Tad Eggleston: Yeah. I've got Becky Clunan's Pearl Jam poster.
- 43:27Dillon Gilbertson: I have not seen that.
- 43:32Tad Eggleston: Mmm… da-da-da-da.
- 43:35Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, that's cool!
- 43:37Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 43:38Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, no, your screen's getting too dark, I can't see it. Is that Josh Scheer on your television?
- 43:43Dillon Gilbertson: mythical.
- 43:44Tad Eggleston: Baby.
- 43:45Dillon Gilbertson: It's just…
- 43:45Tad Eggleston: Netflix… Screensaver playing right now.
- 43:50Peter Eggleston Connor: -Oh.
- 43:51Tad Eggleston: But yeah.
- 43:51Peter Eggleston Connor: Look a little bit like Josh.
- 43:54Peter Eggleston Connor: I don't know what you're talking about, Dillon.
- 43:56Dillon Gilbertson: Definitely Mythical Chef Josh.
- 43:57Peter Eggleston Connor: Mythical Chef Josh.
- 43:59Tad Eggleston: But yeah, Becky Clunan's…
- 44:01Tad Eggleston: I've got a Ramon Perez print that's… that's like a jazz version of Logan and Aurora.
- 44:11Tad Eggleston: So, so Logan, I think, has… Is he the saxophone?
- 44:15Tad Eggleston: Yeah, Logan? Or maybe it's trumpet.
- 44:19Tad Eggleston: Yeah, Logan's got a trumpet, and Aurora's at the mic, so it's like… it's like this smoky jazz version of…
- 44:26Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, yeah.
- 44:27Tad Eggleston: Logan and Aurora.
- 44:29Tad Eggleston: And then I've got a couple of, of…
- 44:32Tad Eggleston: Mark Chiarello baseball pictures, a Josh Gibson print, and a three-finger Brown original, and I've got a headshot from Elsa Chardier that she did for me.
- 44:42Tad Eggleston: just… Dealer's choice, so I don't even know if it's a character at all.
- 44:46Dillon Gilbertson: Veritable museum of amazing art, and you're in your room there.
- 44:50Tad Eggleston: I now have 3… I just got 3 David Lapham pages that I need to frame and figure out where I'm putting.
- 44:58Dillon Gilbertson: So, so, to, to… So, Jack Foster… did, apologies.
- 45:08Dillon Gilbertson: Jack Foster did original watercolor art for his section in Necromancer Issue 3.
- 45:14Tad Eggleston: Okay.
- 45:14Dillon Gilbertson: And so we… we offered a bunch of the pages.
- 45:18Dillon Gilbertson: Or a bunch of the panels that he had ready, in that Kickstarter. But he had more.
- 45:26Dillon Gilbertson: And so, he gave them to me at Comic-Con this year, and we are also going to have those as rewards.
- 45:32Tad Eggleston: Oh, cool.
- 45:33Dillon Gilbertson: on Issue 4. And so, if you read issue 3 and you loved Jack's work, which, like.
- 45:39Dillon Gilbertson: Be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't.
- 45:40Tad Eggleston: Is he the children's book illustrator?
- 45:44Tad Eggleston: Illustrator?
- 45:45Dillon Gilbertson: No…
- 45:47Tad Eggleston: No?
- 45:48Dillon Gilbertson: I don't believe Jack's done too much children's book stuff.
- 45:51Tad Eggleston: Okay, then it's a different Jack Foster?
- 45:54Tad Eggleston: I mean… I'm just looking at Jack Foster's.
- 45:56Dillon Gilbertson: I mean, unless Jack Foster has a secret… secret books that I don't know about, in which case I'm gonna be very upset that he didn't tell me about them.
- 46:04Peter Eggleston Connor: Please,
- 46:05Tad Eggleston: There is a jack.
- 46:06Peter Eggleston Connor: My Neighbor Necromancer is, like, the part where they're telling the story.
- 46:09Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, the flashback secret.
- 46:11Tad Eggleston: This eyeballs, Jack falls?
- 46:13Dillon Gilbertson: Yep, reckless eyeballs, that's it.
- 46:15Tad Eggleston: Okay.
- 46:15Dillon Gilbertson: Yep, he does. He's most known for his book called Gun.
- 46:22Dillon Gilbertson: Which is very good, I recommend checking it out. It's about, like, henchmen, like, the lives of the henchmen of, of evil…
- 46:32Dillon Gilbertson: Of evil supervillains.
- 46:34Tad Eggleston: Cool.
- 46:35Dillon Gilbertson: But yeah, so his original artwork for…
- 46:40Dillon Gilbertson: Issue 3 are… is going to be available as rewards. It's the original art, and so they're all one of one.
- 46:47Tad Eggleston: A 101.
- 46:48Dillon Gilbertson: And what reminded me of that is you saying all this cool art that you have on your wall, and I…
- 46:54Tad Eggleston: Only, only two of which are one of one on the wall so far, so…
- 46:59Dillon Gilbertson: I'm having a hard time deciding which one of Jack's panels I need to keep for myself.
- 47:04Tad Eggleston: I…
- 47:05Dillon Gilbertson: I need to keep one.
- 47:06Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 47:06Dillon Gilbertson: Right now, every single panel that he did is now on the Kickstarter as a reward, and I need to decide if I'm willing to.
- 47:13Tad Eggleston: Yeah, you gotta pick one and take one down.
- 47:15Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, because I said… I think I sent you…
- 47:18Tad Eggleston: You got… you got, like, 12 days to… to pick one and take it down.
- 47:22Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, I,
- 47:23Peter Eggleston Connor: I mean, realistically, you got 10 days.
- 47:28Dillon Gilbertson: I'm sure.
- 47:29Tad Eggleston: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:31Dillon Gilbertson: Don't ruin… don't make me more upset than I already am. Don't make me more anxious about it.
- 47:36Peter Eggleston Connor: Don't worry, I'll send you a reminder every day for 10 days, or like, hey, hey, hey, hey, Dillon, have you taken one out yet? Have you taken one out yet? I wonder what's going on, you know.
- 47:47Dillon Gilbertson: There's.
- 47:48Peter Eggleston Connor: There's… are others.
- 47:49Peter Eggleston Connor: There's three of them.
- 47:50Dillon Gilbertson: that I'm trying to decide between. So there's one where, where death is handing his scythe to the farmer, and it's just.
- 47:58Tad Eggleston: Oh, that's…
- 47:59Dillon Gilbertson: a close-up of him handing the scythe to him, and that one is so cool.
- 48:03Dillon Gilbertson: The other one is,
- 48:05Dillon Gilbertson: is the farmer standing before death, holding his dead son. And it feels like this really defiant, cool moment, that, like, when you've had enough, that you're going to confront death itself, because…
- 48:18Dillon Gilbertson: you can't take it anymore, and I think that's a really powerful moment.
- 48:22Dillon Gilbertson: And then there's another one that is just the shot, right after…
- 48:27Dillon Gilbertson: right after the farmer strikes down Death, and he's falling, and you can… and his skull is just, like, falling into his robe, and it's so… like, the flow of the robe makes it look like he's… it…
- 48:39Tad Eggleston: There is a solution, Dylan.
- 48:41Dillon Gilbertson: Looks like take them all down and keep them.
- 48:43Tad Eggleston: I was gonna say, things…
- 48:44Dillon Gilbertson: everything.
- 48:45Tad Eggleston: Things go well on walls in threes.
- 48:48Dillon Gilbertson: I mean, yeah, but, like, I wanna… I want people to have them. I don't wanna be selfish. I'm going to keep one of them.
- 48:56Dillon Gilbertson: I'm going to keep… I'm going to be selfish enough to keep one, but I want… I want other people to also see and have these.
- 49:03Tad Eggleston: That's fair. How many are there?
- 49:06Dillon Gilbertson: Let's see, how many are there left that are up there? There's those 3, there's…
- 49:13Dillon Gilbertson: there's the portraits one. There's one, so there's a sequence in the flashback where you're getting to look at all the things…
- 49:22Tad Eggleston: The real question is, are there six or more? Because if you're keeping less than half, you're still…
- 49:27Dillon Gilbertson: I don't… I don't think there's more than 6.
- 49:29Tad Eggleston: Yeah, yeah, okay. It would be better if there were, like, 9, because then you keeping a third.
- 49:35Dillon Gilbertson: There's… I think there's only 5 now.
- 49:38Tad Eggleston: Yeah, then you might only want to take one.
- 49:40Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, those are the only ones Jack had left, because all of the ones previously were sold in the previous Kickstarter.
- 49:47Tad Eggleston: Gotcha, gotcha.
- 49:48Dillon Gilbertson: And so these are the only 5 left, and now we have to sell them.
- 49:51Tad Eggleston: Yeah, yeah, that's fair. That's fair.
- 49:56Tad Eggleston: But… but take good pictures of them.
- 49:58Dillon Gilbertson: I really… Jack did a great job taking pictures, but he didn't take pictures of… I had to take pictures of some of them, and now I'm embarrassed that my pictures are much worse than his. I did the best I could.
- 50:10Dillon Gilbertson: Everyone who sees the Kickstarter, please forgive me, because I did the best that I could.
- 50:16Peter Eggleston Connor: For sure.
- 50:17Peter Eggleston Connor: Is there anything else, like, I don't… I'm not saying we're at the end or anything, but I'm just curious, is there anything, like, any specific thing you want to call out right here on air, Dillon?
- 50:28Tad Eggleston: Yeah, I was about… I was gonna go there. This seems like the point to wrap up Necromancer, and then we'll do some closing questions and babble a little bit. So, any other big point about the Kickstarter we should know?
- 50:47Dillon Gilbertson: Please back it.
- 50:49Tad Eggleston: Fuck yeah! Back it twice!
- 50:51Tad Eggleston: If you haven't gotten the first three issues, will they be available again?
- 50:56Dillon Gilbertson: If what? Oh, yes, yeah, all… so yeah, every… every issue.
- 50:59Tad Eggleston: There will be completionist tariffs.
- 51:01Dillon Gilbertson: There will be completion.
- 51:02Tad Eggleston: People who are behind?
- 51:03Dillon Gilbertson: Absolutely, there'll be…
- 51:05Dillon Gilbertson: Issue 1 through 3 is also available, and so if you're new to this series, don't worry, we got you covered. You can still read all of them. We have them in physical and digital formats, and so if digital.
- 51:15Tad Eggleston: And there's only… there's only a slight, you know…
- 51:18Tad Eggleston: penalty for… for having… having waited so long. It's only, like, an extra $1,000 per issue, no big deal.
- 51:25Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, it's fine. It's fine. Throwing a cool 3,000.
- 51:29Peter Eggleston Connor: Go listen to Tad!
- 51:31Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 51:32Tad Eggleston: This is why I don't run Kickstarter.
- 51:34Peter Eggleston Connor: Grace you!
- 51:35Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah. I mean.
- 51:36Tad Eggleston: And one of them's a number one! Number 1s are important!
- 51:40Dillon Gilbertson: Yep.
- 51:41Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, I guess. I mean, like, I'm not saying they're not!
- 51:46Tad Eggleston: No, Dillon.
- 51:47Peter Eggleston Connor: That's really nice of the…
- 51:48Tad Eggleston: me. He doesn't… he doesn't charge a…
- 51:52Tad Eggleston: You didn't back my previous Kickstarters fee.
- 51:56Tad Eggleston: No.
- 51:56Peter Eggleston Connor: I mean, it also doesn't seem like a great plan if you're trying to kickstart.
- 52:06Tad Eggleston: You guys in your business sense.
- 52:11Dillon Gilbertson: Well, you save, you save those kind of tactics for the last one.
- 52:16Dillon Gilbertson: Because then you already made it that far, and now you can charge whatever you want, right?
- 52:20Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh…
- 52:21Dillon Gilbertson: No.
- 52:22Peter Eggleston Connor: That depends on how well you do.
- 52:25Tad Eggleston: Depends on how many issues of one you want to keep in your garage for the next 10 years.
- 52:30Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, so the other thing that we have, so we have retailer tiers as well. And so, for comic shops, we always offer a retailer tier that's a large bundle of the books at a discounted price to have in shops, because we have a few comic shops who are amazing supporters of ours, and so they always wear.
- 52:50Tad Eggleston: You wanna shout out your comic shop supporters?
- 52:52Dillon Gilbertson: Kamikaze in San Diego, is an amazing shop. They've always
- 52:58Dillon Gilbertson: stocked my stuff, and so if you ever want to get physical copies of anything that I've written, you can hit them up, and if they don't have it in.
- 53:05Tad Eggleston: While you're at San Diego Comic-Con.
- 53:07Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, it's the perfect time. I usually go there. If you go there at the right time during Comic-Con, you will see me there, because I'm usually hanging out there during the off times.
- 53:15Tad Eggleston: Cool, cool.
- 53:16Dillon Gilbertson: Rubber Chicken Comics here in Bellingham, is another great one.
- 53:21Dillon Gilbertson: More fun comics in Ashland, it's another great one. So yeah…
- 53:26Tad Eggleston: still there?
- 53:28Dillon Gilbertson: No, it actually recently closed, but I'm gonna sing their pre… Iguana Comics, I think, was also one, that, that supported us.
- 53:36Peter Eggleston Connor: I'm closed down? That's unfortunate.
- 53:38Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 53:38Tad Eggleston: I thought it had.
- 53:40Dillon Gilbertson: I love… the guy who ran More Fun…
- 53:43Dillon Gilbertson: was such a character. I loved him.
- 53:45Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 53:46Tad Eggleston: No, no, that was one of my favorite parts about my, my… Trip to see my dad.
- 53:52Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 53:53Tad Eggleston: It was… I think I went to more fun, like, almost every day I was in town.
- 53:57Dillon Gilbertson: He, I remember going there with, with Kevin. Peter knows Kevin. We went in there one time, and, like, Kevin wanted to know how… what the dimensions of the long boxes were.
- 54:10Dillon Gilbertson: And he goes, he goes, hey, can I ask, how long are the long boxes? And he's like… he's flipping through a magazine, and he's just not… he doesn't want to interact with Kevin. He's like, he just goes, twice as long as the shorter ones.
- 54:25Dillon Gilbertson: It's not helpful, sir.
- 54:29Peter Eggleston Connor: -Oh.
- 54:30Tad Eggleston: And then he had… I did.
- 54:31Dillon Gilbertson: He had a drawer.
- 54:32Tad Eggleston: I did.
- 54:32Dillon Gilbertson: clock on his wall as well, and and I… the first time I saw it, I was like, hey, there's, like, what's this… what's this clock on your wall? And he's like, that's not a clock.
- 54:41Dillon Gilbertson: It's an homage. Like, okay, my bad. My bad, guy, you're right.
- 54:47Tad Eggleston: I… I thought he had a fantastic graphic novel selection. He introduced me to Dylan Horrocks, as… as a…
- 54:57Tad Eggleston: cartoonist, not personally. Dillon lives in New Zealand, that would have been hard.
- 55:03Tad Eggleston: And he also had, what was it, the…
- 55:07Tad Eggleston: free comic thing, where, like, for every…
- 55:11Tad Eggleston: $10 you spent, you got to pick a comic out of his box of…
- 55:16Tad Eggleston: I got, like, 5 original issues of Bone from his… Like, pick a comic box.
- 55:24Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, yeah, so I think our friend Kevin got, like, some original of, Long Halloween he had back there.
- 55:31Tad Eggleston: Right, right.
- 55:32Dillon Gilbertson: You got… you have the craziest comics here that you're just like… Yeah.
- 55:37Tad Eggleston: Spend… spend 40 bucks, get 4 free issues of Bone.
- 55:42Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 55:44Dillon Gilbertson: Crazy. Yeah, I miss that shop so much that we went there all the time when.
- 55:48Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 55:49Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah.
- 55:50Tad Eggleston: it, it was…
- 55:51Peter Eggleston Connor: So…
- 55:52Tad Eggleston: it was… I… I definitely enjoyed the, the store. And, and…
- 55:59Tad Eggleston: I only knew… well, I mean…
- 56:03Tad Eggleston: I only had heard that it closed, because I think I sent somebody to look for something there, and they…
- 56:12Tad Eggleston: said it… they didn't see it there. But on the flip side, like, it's not saying that it's closed on Google, so who knows?
- 56:20Dillon Gilbertson: Oops.
- 56:21Tad Eggleston: Maybe they just couldn't find the door to walk up the stairs.
- 56:24Dillon Gilbertson: That's good.
- 56:25Peter Eggleston Connor: I mean, it was not the easiest,
- 56:29Tad Eggleston: No, you had to… you had to find the street door and walk up the stairs.
- 56:33Dillon Gilbertson: I think he lived in there, too. He had, like, a bed and stuff in the back.
- 56:37Tad Eggleston: That's possible.
- 56:38Peter Eggleston Connor: Lived in… wow.
- 56:40Dillon Gilbertson: Like, living in a coffee shop?
- 56:42Dillon Gilbertson: Sounds like the dream.
- 56:44Tad Eggleston: I mean… as I look at it, it looks like…
- 56:50Tad Eggleston: I mean, their Instagram is still live.
- 56:54Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, I don't know. It, it, it, Google or Yelp is saying it's… Still active.
- 57:01Tad Eggleston: Alright.
- 57:02Dillon Gilbertson: What's the rating on Yelp? I don't… if it's lower than… if it's lower than 4 stars, I'm calling Yelp and…
- 57:11Peter Eggleston Connor: It's got 4.4.
- 57:13Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 57:14Dillon Gilbertson: I'll take it.
- 57:16Dillon Gilbertson: I love more fun.
- 57:18Tad Eggleston: It's got 4.7 on Google.
- 57:21Dillon Gilbertson: Great.
- 57:21Peter Eggleston Connor: Leave that.
- 57:24Peter Eggleston Connor: I do not like that.
- 57:26Peter Eggleston Connor: I have a, protective provider that keeps changing my…
- 57:34Peter Eggleston Connor: preference away from Google to Yahoo.
- 57:40Dillon Gilbertson: Boo.
- 57:43Peter Eggleston Connor: We're keeping you protected! I'm like, I don't think that you're keeping me protected, but… have not…
- 57:49Tad Eggleston: I mean, I don't know, does Yahoo Maps recognize Lake America? Because if they don't, then maybe you are being protected.
- 57:58Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, does Google Maps recognize.
- 58:00Dillon Gilbertson: It's a good litmus test for your search engine.
- 58:02Tad Eggleston: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 58:04Dillon Gilbertson: What's Jeeves?
- 58:05Tad Eggleston: Google Maps has recognized it, Apple caved over the weekend, but MapQuest… MapQuest recognizes Lake Ontario.
- 58:18Dillon Gilbertson: MapQuest is the real one. We can always depend on MapQuest.
- 58:21Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 58:22Dillon Gilbertson: Gosh, through a lot of hard times in road trips.
- 58:26Dillon Gilbertson: Printing… printing out these 40-page instructions.
- 58:30Tad Eggleston: Destruction.
- 58:31Peter Eggleston Connor: That's right. I think, like, I remember more of one comics, and I remember, like, always, like, thinking, oh, I should go hang out there more, and now I remember it always closed at, like, 5pm.
- 58:42Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 58:43Tad Eggleston: It does have…
- 58:43Dillon Gilbertson: the worst, huh.
- 58:44Tad Eggleston: Hours for a.
- 58:45Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah. It's probably because he's gotta eat dinner, and he lives in.
- 58:48Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 58:50Peter Eggleston Connor: Wow, boy. I mean, like… I have no idea. I just know that…
- 58:55Peter Eggleston Connor: it is… was always, like, I'd go there, it would be closed. Also, it was closed on Sunday. It's closed on Sunday, so I was like…
- 59:03Peter Eggleston Connor: Well…
- 59:05Dillon Gilbertson: I always… yeah, I always think… thought of the guy who worked… who owned it.
- 59:10Dillon Gilbertson: as, like, the… the… the surly guy who had a heart of gold, because I remember… I remember, too, because, like, we didn't have money in college, and, like, I was so broke, like, I couldn't… I couldn't buy comics. Like, even the back issue stuff, that was, like, incredibly cheap.
- 59:24Dillon Gilbertson: Like, I couldn't afford comics a lot of the time. I went in there when I could, and could buy them, but there were a couple times I'd go there with friends who were gonna buy comics, but I couldn't.
- 59:34Dillon Gilbertson: in, like.
- 59:35Dillon Gilbertson: He would… he would let me just read the books that were… like, there was a chair there to sit in and wait.
- 59:40Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 59:41Dillon Gilbertson: And he would let me read some of the new issues that came out, and, like, not… not get mad at me for…
- 59:47Dillon Gilbertson: For reading.
- 59:48Tad Eggleston: Well, good comic shops are like that, like…
- 59:50Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 59:53Tad Eggleston: Good comic shops want readers, not…
- 59:57Dillon Gilbertson: I mean, you… I mean, they do need customers, though. People gotta pay us.
- 1:00:00Tad Eggleston: They do need…
- 1:00:00Dillon Gilbertson: Or your local college.
- 1:00:01Tad Eggleston: Customers, they do need customers. I'm not saying that, like, you shouldn't buy or whatnot, but, like…
- 1:00:07Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:11Tad Eggleston: People who stop reading comics when they're broke aren't guaranteed to start reading comics again when they aren't.
- 1:00:17Dillon Gilbertson: That's the truth, that's true, yeah.
- 1:00:20Tad Eggleston: People who aren't quite broke, but don't have a lot of expendable income, are more likely to buy if they read enough to go, oh, I really like this.
- 1:00:30Tad Eggleston: Rather than buying on spec.
- 1:00:33Dillon Gilbertson: Also, if you are not able to support the My Neighbor Necromancer Kickstarter enough to get an issue of the comic book.
- 1:00:44Dillon Gilbertson: One, we have, we have a, just like a low $3 tier, just to get your name in the book, if you want, if you're able to support in that way.
- 1:00:53Dillon Gilbertson: But if you're… if you just don't have the funds to support it, like, we also want people to read our books, and so if you… I shouldn't say this when I want people to back a Kickstarter, but, like, DM me or message me, and, like.
- 1:01:05Dillon Gilbertson: I'm more than happy to send you… send you a digital copy if you want to check.
- 1:01:08Tad Eggleston: Yeah, we'll see about getting PDFs out. Yeah.
- 1:01:11Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 1:01:12Tad Eggleston: Yeah, you know.
- 1:01:14Tad Eggleston: And if I recall correctly, your PDF tier's really reasonable, too.
- 1:01:19Dillon Gilbertson: I think so. I would like to think so.
- 1:01:21Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 1:01:23Dillon Gilbertson: So yeah, anyway.
- 1:01:27Tad Eggleston: So, alright, closing questions.
- 1:01:31Tad Eggleston: I think one of them gets to be new for you. Oh, no. Yeah, yeah, because I now have two closing questions.
- 1:01:39Dillon Gilbertson: some good stuff.
- 1:01:40Tad Eggleston: Now, one, you've had to answer all of the times you've been on, and one is… one is new for you.
- 1:01:45Tad Eggleston: So… This is year 5 of this podcast.
- 1:01:52Tad Eggleston: I think you've… you've been around for most of them.
- 1:01:55Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, I was gonna say.
- 1:01:55Tad Eggleston: mine.
- 1:01:56Dillon Gilbertson: I realized it was that new when I first jumped in.
- 1:01:58Tad Eggleston: We might have still been in the first year. But yeah, no, like, late October, early November, we hit our fifth anniversary.
- 1:02:06Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, congrats! That's cool.
- 1:02:09Tad Eggleston: It's coming up fast. Yeah.
- 1:02:12Tad Eggleston: But I feel like I've, I've, like, entered the Twilight Zone.
- 1:02:16Tad Eggleston: the way my life has changed because of this podcast, the people that I count as friends, the experiences I've gotten to have, the things I've gotten to see, the things I've been a fly on the wall for, you know.
- 1:02:32Tad Eggleston: are just outstanding. You know, the number of things that, like, you've told 15-year-old me, oh, yeah, this is gonna be part of your life, I would have been like.
- 1:02:42Tad Eggleston: In what fucking universe? In what fucking universe is that gonna be part of my life?
- 1:02:49Tad Eggleston: But I find that that's true for, like, everybody in this business. Everybody in comics.
- 1:02:54Tad Eggleston: to a certain extent, everybody in the arts period, but definitely everybody in comics has those stories where, like, when they think back on them, they just kind of pinch themselves, and they're like, really? I spent a weekend with Will Eisner? That was from Durf Bechter recently.
- 1:03:11Tad Eggleston: Like, his very first con, he… he introduced himself to some guy that he didn't recognize, Will Eisner.
- 1:03:19Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, for sure.
- 1:03:23Tad Eggleston: And they wound up just hanging out all weekend.
- 1:03:27Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 1:03:28Tad Eggleston: Because that's the sort of thing that happens in comics, you know? There are so few barriers for entry, there are so few walls between…
- 1:03:41Tad Eggleston: So yeah, I've started… I've started collecting people's, like, surreal, pinch-themselves stories. Was that really what I… was… was it me that got to do that?
- 1:03:52Tad Eggleston: So… so share one of your… your crazy stories, and… and it doesn't have to be about, like.
- 1:03:58Tad Eggleston: my brother crashing your interview, and then you joining the Heavy Metal Book Club, because I know how special that was to you, but…
- 1:04:05Dillon Gilbertson: Damn.
- 1:04:06Tad Eggleston: You know, you're allowed to have more special things.
- 1:04:14Tad Eggleston: I still think of that every time.
- 1:04:15Dillon Gilbertson: It was so crazy to be…
- 1:04:17Tad Eggleston: Like, halfway through the interview, I'm like, oh, wait a minute, you did this book?
- 1:04:21Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 1:04:21Tad Eggleston: I can't remember. My brother said he was friends with either the writer or the artist of this book. Do you know a… and you're like, Eggleston?
- 1:04:30Dillon Gilbertson: Ignisius.
- 1:04:31Tad Eggleston: Oh, shit, man!
- 1:04:34Dillon Gilbertson: That was the wildest There'll never be a podcast, appearance that tops that.
- 1:04:42Dillon Gilbertson: I couldn't… I… like, I was literally beside myself, I couldn't believe it. And then… and then Peter jumped on.
- 1:04:48Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 1:04:48Dillon Gilbertson: Thank you.
- 1:04:49Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 1:04:50Dillon Gilbertson: And now, and now we do Heavy Metal Podcast.
- 1:04:53Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 1:04:54Peter Eggleston Connor: No apologize.
- 1:04:54Tad Eggleston: Peter and I had just started doing that with Matt, so, I mean, you…
- 1:04:58Tad Eggleston: I mean, I think we did maybe, like, 3 of them without you? Maybe 4? Something like that.
- 1:05:02Dillon Gilbertson: like that?
- 1:05:02Tad Eggleston: I mean, that was a new thing, but it's like, hey.
- 1:05:07Tad Eggleston: I've got an excuse for… I mean, because you guys were literally saying, we should talk more, and I'm like, I know how to make it, so you guys can talk more.
- 1:05:14Dillon Gilbertson: Yep, yep.
- 1:05:17Peter Eggleston Connor: There he goes.
- 1:05:20Dillon Gilbertson: So…
- 1:05:21Tad Eggleston: 22 panels, bringing college roommates back together.
- 1:05:26Dillon Gilbertson: You're not…
- 1:05:27Peter Eggleston Connor: my roommate.
- 1:05:28Dillon Gilbertson: Might as well.
- 1:05:29Tad Eggleston: Dormates.
- 1:05:30Peter Eggleston Connor: Okay, we might as well, man, but…
- 1:05:32Dillon Gilbertson: time together.
- 1:05:34Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah.
- 1:05:35Dillon Gilbertson: Let's see… So there's a couple, and I think… but neither of them quite maybe fit.
- 1:05:48Dillon Gilbertson: What you're looking for.
- 1:05:49Tad Eggleston: We don't have rules, dude.
- 1:05:51Dillon Gilbertson: So, so one of…
- 1:05:52Tad Eggleston: I know that about this podcast.
- 1:05:54Dillon Gilbertson: Fondest memories of a… Of a creator, a comic creator that, like, a legendary comic creator.
- 1:06:05Dillon Gilbertson: that I have is, there was a panel I attended with Grant Morrison.
- 1:06:12Tad Eggleston: Oh, wow.
- 1:06:13Dillon Gilbertson: And Grant Morrison, is weird.
- 1:06:18Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, it's fair to say.
- 1:06:21Dillon Gilbertson: He's in a…
- 1:06:22Tad Eggleston: I think… I think they would be the first ones to say that.
- 1:06:24Dillon Gilbertson: Yes.
- 1:06:27Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, Grant Morrison is eccentric, and I had… what had just come out? The return of Bruce Wayne had just wrapped up.
- 1:06:38Dillon Gilbertson: And, I… I was one of the people who really enjoyed the story, and so I wanted to ask.
- 1:06:46Dillon Gilbertson: Grant Morrison a question about the book.
- 1:06:49Dillon Gilbertson: And it was some… And I was nervous, because Grant Morrison was a comic book hero of mine.
- 1:06:57Tad Eggleston: And he's a wizard. They're a wizard, too, so, like…
- 1:06:59Dillon Gilbertson: Legitimate wizard. Like, not even joking, but legitimate wizard.
- 1:07:02Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 1:07:04Dillon Gilbertson: Alan Moore looks like a wizard, but Graham Morrison is a wizard.
- 1:07:08Tad Eggleston: I mean, Alan Moore is also a wizard, but, like… Yeah.
- 1:07:13Dillon Gilbertson: more the traditional Merlin sense.
- 1:07:15Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 1:07:17Dillon Gilbertson: Anyway, so I went up, and I asked, and I was so nervous, and I was mumbling and rambling.
- 1:07:23Dillon Gilbertson: And the question was something to the effect of whether or not Bruce… whether or not Darkseid was actually the person who consciously created Batman.
- 1:07:35Dillon Gilbertson: Purposefully as a weapon to travel through time to destroy the entire universe.
- 1:07:43Dillon Gilbertson: And he…
- 1:07:44Dillon Gilbertson: they… sorry, apologies. So, so they… so they… they… they sort of looked back and forth, and no… and the people on the… the other people on the panel, just thought it was a crazy question, and…
- 1:07:57Dillon Gilbertson: Grant Morrison… says simply, If you keep thinking like that, You'll soon be enlightened.
- 1:08:06Dillon Gilbertson: and…
- 1:08:07Dillon Gilbertson: That's such a Grant Morrison response. I'm not sure how much sense it made. The book had been wrapped up, and so all the answers were already there.
- 1:08:17Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 1:08:18Dillon Gilbertson: But the way I've always taken it is Grant Morrison giving me permission to think
- 1:08:26Dillon Gilbertson: and think weird things and to be weird. That is… if I… if I keep… if I keep…
- 1:08:34Dillon Gilbertson: Being weird, or having… having…
- 1:08:37Dillon Gilbertson: You know, going down weird rabbit holes, and thinking too hard about things, and just coming up with crazy…
- 1:08:43Dillon Gilbertson: fun stuff that, like… I don't know, they gave me permission to be weird, is always sort of the way I took it. And I don't know, I doubt that's maybe the way they intended it, but that's always the way I took it, and it's sort of a treasured memory that I have of a comic creator.
- 1:09:00Dillon Gilbertson: Influencing my life.
- 1:09:03Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, it makes a lot of sense to me, just with everything I've ever known about you.
- 1:09:08Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah. Just like, if you… if you keep thinking the way you're thinking, you know.
- 1:09:13Dillon Gilbertson: You'll be enlightened, and things are gonna work out. And I love that.
- 1:09:17Dillon Gilbertson: The other one was just partying… partying with Doug Jones.
- 1:09:23Dillon Gilbertson: we went to, we got… we randomly got into this rooftop party at San Diego Comic-Con, and Doug Jones was there.
- 1:09:32Dillon Gilbertson: And we ended up just, like, hanging out and chatting with Doug Jones.
- 1:09:36Dillon Gilbertson: And I believe his wife the entire time.
- 1:09:39Dillon Gilbertson: And just had the best time. And then at the end, he kissed me on the cheek and told me to keep making him proud.
- 1:09:48Dillon Gilbertson: And there was very nice.
- 1:09:50Tad Eggleston: Nice.
- 1:09:50Dillon Gilbertson: precarious memory.
- 1:09:52Peter Eggleston Connor: That's a very, very…
- 1:09:54Dillon Gilbertson: So yeah, those are… those are the two that I got for you.
- 1:09:59Tad Eggleston: Those are good ones! Those are good ones!
- 1:10:01Dillon Gilbertson: Yep.
- 1:10:02Tad Eggleston: And they totally qualify.
- 1:10:04Tad Eggleston: The other things that qualify, I mean, it's not always, like, the famous creators. Sometimes it's, like, the first time somebody came up and…
- 1:10:14Tad Eggleston: was all over how much a book meant to somebody, or… I mean, I get all sorts of stories, that's what I like about it.
- 1:10:19Dillon Gilbertson: So, I'll never pass up a chance to share this story, then.
- 1:10:23Dillon Gilbertson: I have… I have with me, I keep a screenshot of it on my phone at all times. When I wrote Sweetheart.
- 1:10:33Dillon Gilbertson: was the first book I… was the first series that ever got published.
- 1:10:37Dillon Gilbertson: And, it was… it was a thinly veiled analogy for life with diabetes, right?
- 1:10:44Dillon Gilbertson: About this monster who follows your entire life and sort of makes your struggles misunderstood at some times, and, and just how…
- 1:10:54Dillon Gilbertson: how it never really leaves you alone, and it comes back at the worst of times, and things like that. And when the first issue came out.
- 1:11:01Dillon Gilbertson: I got an email from the mother of a young child who was also a type 1 diabetic, and she thanked me for it, and said that it finally
- 1:11:14Dillon Gilbertson: Her and her son were never able to talk about it without it, bringing up emotions, and like, they always… they… they would argue a lot.
- 1:11:23Dillon Gilbertson: And she never really quite understood what he was going through. And then when Sweetheart came out.
- 1:11:31Dillon Gilbertson: they both read it together, and it gave them a way to talk about it, and she thanked me for that, and that was the most, to this day, one of the most meaningful interactions I've ever had. It was over email. It was one of the.
- 1:11:45Tad Eggleston: Right?
- 1:11:45Dillon Gilbertson: meaningful interactions I've ever had, and so, that's…
- 1:11:50Dillon Gilbertson: why I like writing stories, is…
- 1:11:53Dillon Gilbertson: that's… that's what it is. Anyone who writes stories, regardless of how much they make doing it, or how often they do it, like, that's… that's what you're aiming for, is to connect with people like that, and that was really… that was really amazing.
- 1:12:10Tad Eggleston: Alright, last question. This one you have had before.
- 1:12:14Tad Eggleston: But also, you know, you're regular enough on 22 Panels, be careful, because you might wind up having us go, okay, we'll make a book club out of that.
- 1:12:23Tad Eggleston: Tell me something you love.
- 1:12:27Tad Eggleston: Preferably a comic, but we don't have rules.
- 1:12:31Tad Eggleston: Preferably storytelling, but again, with the rules.
- 1:12:34Tad Eggleston: Tell me something you love.
- 1:12:36Tad Eggleston: But not enough people around you have experienced?
- 1:12:40Tad Eggleston: And you'd really like them to, so that you have more people to talk about it with.
- 1:12:49Dillon Gilbertson: I have to struggle with this one every single time. I never remember how I…
- 1:12:53Tad Eggleston: Jim?
- 1:12:54Dillon Gilbertson: buddies. It's always so hard.
- 1:12:56Tad Eggleston: Everybody, everybody struggles with this one.
- 1:12:59Tad Eggleston: Most people love this one, but they also have to, like…
- 1:13:02Tad Eggleston: Think, and look at their bookshelves, and…
- 1:13:06Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah…
- 1:13:07Tad Eggleston: That's why it's such a great question. I'm proud of this question.
- 1:13:11Dillon Gilbertson: Do you remember what I said last time?
- 1:13:13Tad Eggleston: Not at all.
- 1:13:14Dillon Gilbertson: Not at all.
- 1:13:16Tad Eggleston: Which means that unless I immediately remember when you say it again, you could get away with saying it again.
- 1:13:23Peter Eggleston Connor: I feel like he could get away with saying it again either way.
- 1:13:27Tad Eggleston: Maybe. I generally don't.
- 1:13:28Dillon Gilbertson: I don't let people.
- 1:13:29Tad Eggleston: I'll do it if I, if I remember.
- 1:13:31Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, I see.
- 1:13:33Tad Eggleston: I'd like to get a new reading item.
- 1:13:41Peter Eggleston Connor: You should say forbidden juggle? No, don't let them in.
- 1:13:45Dillon Gilbertson: I'm… I'm reading.
- 1:13:46Tad Eggleston: Baby Bear Arm? We've already read that.
- 1:13:49Dillon Gilbertson: Baron, baby, yeah.
- 1:13:50Peter Eggleston Connor: arm, baby.
- 1:13:52Peter Eggleston Connor: There we are, baby, get it right!
- 1:13:54Tad Eggleston: Bare arm, baby!
- 1:13:55Dillon Gilbertson: human Matt, not related to… to Cat Matt the Cat, gave me that original…
- 1:14:02Tad Eggleston: Yeah.
- 1:14:03Dillon Gilbertson: art, which was really cool that I still have.
- 1:14:05Peter Eggleston Connor: Bye.
- 1:14:07Peter Eggleston Connor: I don't think it was the original, but that was…
- 1:14:10Dillon Gilbertson: He gave me… he gave.
- 1:14:11Tad Eggleston: Yeah, he gave prints to everybody, and he gave Dillon the original.
- 1:14:13Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah, okay.
- 1:14:14Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, man.
- 1:14:15Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, yeah.
- 1:14:16Peter Eggleston Connor: I don't think I got the original. I know Dillon did, but…
- 1:14:20Tad Eggleston: And I think he's reworking it for Kelly to make into a t-shirt, but we haven't done that yet.
- 1:14:24Dillon Gilbertson: Oh my god, oh my gosh! That'd be so cool. I…
- 1:14:29Dillon Gilbertson: And part of me is mad that Bare Arm Baby is so popular that people love it so much, because…
- 1:14:35Dillon Gilbertson: It's… in a lot of ways, it's… I struggled… it's the worst thing I've ever written. Like, I… I was… like, I didn't…
- 1:14:44Dillon Gilbertson: I didn't…
- 1:14:45Dillon Gilbertson: I don't know, I wasn't a practiced writer at the time, I wasn't a disciplined writer, I was just writing it because it was fun.
- 1:14:52Tad Eggleston: Well, that just means that the reimagining of Bare Arm Baby, when you're in your 40s, will be…
- 1:14:59Dillon Gilbertson: I don't know.
- 1:14:59Tad Eggleston: Phenomenal.
- 1:15:00Dillon Gilbertson: I think… I think its charm is its deficiencies, though. It's got wabi-sabi. It's beautiful because of its flaws. And I think if I… if I do it again, it's not gonna be as beautiful, because it's gonna be shinier.
- 1:15:13Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, like…
- 1:15:14Tad Eggleston: They would be shy.
- 1:15:15Tad Eggleston: laws.
- 1:15:17Peter Eggleston Connor: all, like, these random concepts that you talk about in college are just so very charming that… I mean, like, I still remember Gravy Vision, I don't know.
- 1:15:28Dillon Gilbertson: Maybe vision, yeah.
- 1:15:29Peter Eggleston Connor: before?
- 1:15:30Dillon Gilbertson: We're thinking about gravy vision and beard vision today.
- 1:15:34Peter Eggleston Connor: There you go.
- 1:15:35Dillon Gilbertson: I was like, what's a wild… what's a… what's just, like, a fun, wild story that doesn't have to have, like, a deeper meaning, that could just be fun, wacky nonsense? And I was like, what about people that have…
- 1:15:43Dillon Gilbertson: the most useless superpowers, and then I, I mean, then I thought of Mystery men, but, like, something akin to Mystery men, but I was like, yeah, someone who has beard vision, or gravy vision.
- 1:15:54Peter Eggleston Connor: I also remember a detachable, body part.
- 1:15:58Dillon Gilbertson: Oh, yeah, there's the… I'm writing.
- 1:16:01Tad Eggleston: Was that based on the King Missile song?
- 1:16:05Dillon Gilbertson: No, yeah, no.
- 1:16:07Dillon Gilbertson: The other one I talked about, 2 days ago?
- 1:16:13Dillon Gilbertson: No, actually it was earlier today. I think I was texting with the Necromancy group chat.
- 1:16:18Dillon Gilbertson: About Humansi? Did I ever tell you about Humanzi?
- 1:16:23Peter Eggleston Connor: No, I don't think I've heard that one.
- 1:16:24Dillon Gilbertson: So we were in a genetics class, and we were learning about how similar humans and chimpanzees were, genetically.
- 1:16:31Peter Eggleston Connor: Oh, wow.
- 1:16:31Dillon Gilbertson: And it's like, it's a very small… a lot of really small changes to get from one to the other. I was like, so you could just be like…
- 1:16:39Dillon Gilbertson: born human to a family of normal chimpanzees with just, like, a couple genetic mutations. And so it's, like, a regular guy named Kevin or something who was born as a genetic mutant from chimps.
- 1:16:53Dillon Gilbertson: And he's just a dude. He's just a normal dude with a chimp family.
- 1:16:56Peter Eggleston Connor: Yeah, dude.
- 1:16:59Dillon Gilbertson: Marathon Baby was another one.
- 1:17:04Dillon Gilbertson: Anyway, so we're going down tracks of just really weird, stupid ideas.
- 1:17:07Tad Eggleston: I'm loving it.
- 1:17:09Peter Eggleston Connor: I mean, I don't… I think they're great, to be perfectly honest. I'm not saying that they will all make it into the comics, I don't know what will and what won't, but they are super amusing, even if, like.
- 1:17:23Peter Eggleston Connor: They're just like… Random thoughts.
- 1:17:26Dillon Gilbertson: That's… that's… that's their function, maybe. Maybe that's the purpose for why they exist, is just to be amusing.
- 1:17:32Tad Eggleston: They do sound like they could be the heart of a Patreon.
- 1:17:36Dillon Gilbertson: Maybe. Maybe one day. Patreon's hard. I do… I have a hard enough time, like, promoting my own social media. Like, I don't have a lot of followers, because I'm not on social media a lot.
- 1:17:45Tad Eggleston: Right.
- 1:17:46Dillon Gilbertson: And so I… Patreon just seems… is scary to me, like, I don't know how to… I don't know.
- 1:17:50Tad Eggleston: Well, I think it depends entirely on how you do it. If you just start putting your ideas up and say, show just enough of them to go, hey, if you want to actually see them, 5 bucks a month.
- 1:18:00Dillon Gilbertson: I am.
- 1:18:01Tad Eggleston: Damn.
- 1:18:08Dillon Gilbertson: There was another one… that I went a little bit further with.
- 1:18:14Dillon Gilbertson: So I wrote this sci-fi story called Albert 7.
- 1:18:18Dillon Gilbertson: About this chimp who… or this, this Reese's monkey from the… the flight… the, the space program.
- 1:18:27Dillon Gilbertson: Back in, like, the 60s, when they were launching dogs and chimps into space and stuff to see if they could survive there, or just, like, trying to… trying to reach space, basically, and…
- 1:18:37Dillon Gilbertson: That the, the… it was the same monkey that they just cloned over and over again, was my idea, and that it just made it genetically better every time, kind of like a doomsday situation, or not doomsday, yeah, doomsday situation.
- 1:18:54Dillon Gilbertson: And then, and then I was like, I could probably make this into a Detective Chimp-type story. And, like, that's how Detective Chimp sort of got smarter, and then there would be other versions of these creatures that they did the same thing to in the space program that were all sort of different genetically in different ways, and create a big murder mystery out of it and stuff. I thought that would be kind of fun.
- 1:19:14Dillon Gilbertson: So a thing that I wish people knew more about
- 1:19:20Dillon Gilbertson: So that I could talk about it more, or with them? Is that…
- 1:19:23Tad Eggleston: Talk with them, yeah.
- 1:19:26Tad Eggleston: Something you wish you had more people to talk about.
- 1:19:29Dillon Gilbertson: Something you.
- 1:19:29Tad Eggleston: You wish you had more people to… Talk with about it.
- 1:19:34Dillon Gilbertson: Yeah.
- 1:19:36Dillon Gilbertson: I am reading currently, I think I'm an issue or two behind, but I was reading a comic called Corpse Night.
- 1:19:44Dillon Gilbertson: Okay.
- 1:19:45Tad Eggleston: I am.
- 1:19:46Dillon Gilbertson: So, Corpse Night, is this really cool book, written by, Michael Chavez, and I think Matthew Roberts is the artist?
- 1:19:55Tad Eggleston: Sounds right.
- 1:19:57Dillon Gilbertson: And,
- 1:20:00Dillon Gilbertson: It's about this girl and her dad, like, get attacked by raiders, or something to that effect, and the dad dies, but then the dad comes back as, like, as a walking corpse to, like, protect his daughter in order to hide the fact that he's a corpse, that he's sort of clad in knight's armor.
- 1:20:20Dillon Gilbertson: And then they… Go on travels, and…
- 1:20:25Dillon Gilbertson: And, like, that… I mean, imagine… reading…
- 1:20:30Dillon Gilbertson: My Neighbor Necromancer, and then, like, you'll kind of get why I am into the concept of this book.
- 1:20:36Tad Eggleston: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:20:38Dillon Gilbertson: It's like, on a high… on a high concept level, it just sounds super cool, and then the art is incredible as well.
- 1:20:46Dillon Gilbertson: It… I… I'm… I don't balk at…
- 1:20:50Dillon Gilbertson: wordy comics, comics with walls of text. I think… I think those are… those are fine. Those serve their… their purpose, and there's nothing wrong with that. But I think there's something that I particularly enjoy about comics who use words so sparingly.
- 1:21:08Dillon Gilbertson: But still are able to elicit a strong emotional response, and I think Corpse Knight is one of those comics that is able to do that. And I think it's, I don't know, I think it's sort of a magic trick of a book, and I really enjoy it.
- 1:21:22Tad Eggleston: Very cool.
- 1:21:23Tad Eggleston: I like that pick, and now I'm gonna have to read more, because I've read the first issue.
- 1:21:28Tad Eggleston: But I haven't kept up with it yet.
- 1:21:31Dillon Gilbertson: The covers are also incredible. If you're someone.
- 1:21:33Tad Eggleston: They are.
- 1:21:34Dillon Gilbertson: who collects comics or buys comics for the covers, like, Corpse Night's gonna feed you real good. You're gonna be eating really well with Corpse Night.
