- 2:42Speaker 2: check in on things happening out at Bridge Valley Community
- 2:45Speaker 2: and Technical College. Michelle Wicks, is the Vice President of
- 2:48Speaker 2: Student Affairs at Bridge Valley. She joins us this morning
- 2:50Speaker 2: via the Guarantee Bank hotline. Michelle, good morning. Welcome to
- 2:53Speaker 2: the show.
- 2:54Speaker 6: Good morning.
- 2:55Speaker 7: Thanks for having me.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Thank you for being here. Now, I know we are
- 2:58Speaker 2: in the middle of fall right now, but spring registration
- 3:01Speaker 2: has already started at Bridge Valley, started yesterday for the
- 3:04Speaker 2: classes that, of course, began in January. Now, you folks
- 3:07Speaker 2: at Bridge Valley, you see so many different kinds of students,
- 3:11Speaker 2: those of high school age, those that are returning after
- 3:13Speaker 2: some time away, maybe somebody making a career change.
- 3:16Speaker 5: All are welcome.
- 3:17Speaker 2: At Bridge Valley, it'd be a great time to start
- 3:19Speaker 2: with the spring semester, right?
- 3:21Speaker 7: Absolutely. Yeah, we have all kinds of students on campus.
- 3:25Speaker 7: Like you said, it could be the student just coming
- 3:28Speaker 7: out of high school. It could be someone who hasn't
- 3:31Speaker 7: gone to high school and been out of high school
- 3:33Speaker 7: for 20 years and has decided to come back to college.
- 3:36Speaker 7: But we're an open door. We're happy to have anybody
- 3:39Speaker 7: that would like to make that change in their life.
- 3:42Speaker 7: And registration for the spring semester did start just this
- 3:45Speaker 7: week for our currently enrolled students. So any student that's
- 3:48Speaker 7: currently enrolled started registering for the spring semester, which starts
- 3:52Speaker 7: January 19th. And then we'll open up to new students
- 3:57Speaker 7: on November 10th.
- 3:58Speaker 2: What's the big selling point for Bridge Valley? I know
- 4:01Speaker 2: that's kind of a very vague statement, and we've talked
- 4:03Speaker 2: about Bridge Valley the last couple of years, but If you,
- 4:06Speaker 2: if somebody, let's just say you had a parent that
- 4:09Speaker 2: had a kid that just graduated from high school, or
- 4:10Speaker 2: you were talking to somebody, you know, in the supermarket
- 4:13Speaker 2: or elevator or something that stops you and just said,
- 4:15Speaker 2: I'm thinking about changing careers. What's the big selling point
- 4:20Speaker 2: for Bridge Valley?
- 4:22Speaker 7: There's a couple of things. One is that you can
- 4:24Speaker 7: get a career. It doesn't necessarily mean you have to
- 4:28Speaker 7: go to a four-year institution. That's perfectly fine. And we
- 4:30Speaker 7: are stepping stone to that as well. But you can
- 4:33Speaker 7: get a very well-paying job in a matter of two
- 4:36Speaker 7: years or less. We have programs like nursing. A lot
- 4:42Speaker 7: of folks don't realize that you can go into our
- 4:45Speaker 7: nursing program and be here for two years and have
- 4:47Speaker 7: your RN degree. A lot of folks think you have
- 4:49Speaker 7: to go to a four-year program to get an RN degree,
- 4:52Speaker 7: and that's not true. We have... Arians that graduate from
- 4:57Speaker 7: Bridge Valley every year. Also, we have advanced manufacturing technology,
- 5:02Speaker 7: where we have a partnership with some of our local
- 5:05Speaker 7: businesses like Toyota, where the students can come and train
- 5:10Speaker 7: at Toyota, work at Toyota, and then come here for
- 5:14Speaker 7: class instruction and do that at the same time. And
- 5:17Speaker 7: they're getting paid for it. So we have lots of
- 5:20Speaker 7: opportunities here. Short-term programs as short as even 10 weeks.
- 5:24Speaker 7: We have a short-term program in phlebotomy. Students can get
- 5:27Speaker 7: a certification in phlebotomy in just a matter of 10 weeks.
- 5:32Speaker 2: And that actually leads me to my next point. Again,
- 5:34Speaker 2: we're talking with Michelle Wicks, who's the Vice President of
- 5:37Speaker 2: Student Affairs at Bridge Valley Community and Technical College. I
- 5:39Speaker 2: want to talk about those short-term trainings because as little
- 5:44Speaker 2: as 10 weeks, you could be on your path to
- 5:47Speaker 2: a new career in as little as 10 weeks. Talk
- 5:48Speaker 2: about some of those.
- 5:50Speaker 6: Exactly.
- 5:51Speaker 7: Phlebotomy is one. We also have a CDL program, which
- 5:54Speaker 7: is just a few weeks. We have lots of interest
- 5:57Speaker 7: in that CDL program, and that's commercial driver's license, if
- 6:02Speaker 7: you're not sure what CDL is. So if you want
- 6:04Speaker 7: to drive a big truck, you can get that certification
- 6:07Speaker 7: in just a matter of weeks. In conjunction to that,
- 6:11Speaker 7: we also have a program called the Utility Lineman Services.
- 6:16Speaker 7: And if you want to work for companies like AEP
- 6:19Speaker 7: or other electrical companies, companies, you can come in and
- 6:22Speaker 7: do the utility lineman program. Again, a lot of these
- 6:25Speaker 7: programs are short-term. Some may take as much as two years.
- 6:28Speaker 7: Some don't necessarily have to, but they're all really connected
- 6:33Speaker 7: to what the region needs as far as workforce. We
- 6:36Speaker 7: work really closely with our communities in the region to
- 6:39Speaker 7: determine what kinds of workforce they're in need of, and
- 6:42Speaker 7: we do our best to train them and get them ready.
- 6:44Speaker 2: And a lot of these employers are standing ready as
- 6:48Speaker 2: soon as that the ink's not even dry on the
- 6:50Speaker 2: certificate yet when they are ready to hire they're ready
- 6:53Speaker 2: to say hey let's let's go to work like you
- 6:56Speaker 2: know we're you're you're graduating the program at two we'll
- 6:59Speaker 2: see you at three it's i mean it's it's that
- 7:01Speaker 2: kind of a thing it's seriously it is it.
- 7:03Speaker 7: Really is we have great partnerships with a lot of
- 7:07Speaker 7: the local businesses our hospitals locally wvu madison and camc
- 7:11Speaker 7: or vendalia health um as well as, like I said, Toyota, Nucor,
- 7:17Speaker 7: which is a business in another county, but they hire
- 7:20Speaker 7: a lot of our students to graduate from our program. So, yeah,
- 7:24Speaker 7: they're chomping at the bit to get our students as
- 7:26Speaker 7: soon as they graduate.
- 7:27Speaker 2: We're talking with Michelle Wicks again from Bridge Valley. It's 915.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Available now on Metro News Television. Experience the greatest walk
- 7:33Speaker 2: in golf. Watch the full Pikewood National Invitational, where championship
- 7:37Speaker 2: competition meets spectacular West Virginia scenery. Presented by Greer Industries
- 7:41Speaker 2: and Morgan Stanley. Now available on Metro News. television. And
- 7:44Speaker 2: let's talk about people that start at Bridge Valley, Michelle,
- 7:47Speaker 2: and then choose to move on to another institution of
- 7:49Speaker 2: higher learning. That happens a lot too.
- 7:51Speaker 7: Absolutely. And actually, it can be a cheaper route to
- 7:54Speaker 7: do that if they're looking for financially a better route
- 7:59Speaker 7: to get to that four-year degree. A lot of our
- 8:01Speaker 7: students come here and go their first two years and
- 8:03Speaker 7: get a lot of their general requirements out of the way,
- 8:06Speaker 7: like their English, their math, their social sciences, And then
- 8:09Speaker 7: they'll take those credits and transfer them into a four-year
- 8:12Speaker 7: degree program. And because of programs like the West Virginia
- 8:15Speaker 7: Invest program, which is a state-funded financial aid program that
- 8:21Speaker 7: helps students going into community colleges, they can go here
- 8:25Speaker 7: with tuition being paid for through the West Virginia Invest.
- 8:29Speaker 7: Or even if they don't want to just take their
- 8:31Speaker 7: gen ed, they can start here and get maybe a
- 8:33Speaker 7: business administration or business management degree and then progress into
- 8:38Speaker 7: a four-year management degree from our credits due transfer.
- 8:43Speaker 2: And you've got a few open houses coming up. I
- 8:46Speaker 2: wanted to give you an opportunity to talk about those
- 8:47Speaker 2: before we close.
- 8:48Speaker 7: Yes, we do. We have some upcoming open houses in
- 8:53Speaker 7: just a few weeks, the first one being on November 5th,
- 8:57Speaker 7: the next being November 10th, and the last one on
- 9:00Speaker 7: November 12th. They're all from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.,
- 9:04Speaker 7: I'm sorry.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Oh, you're fine.
- 9:05Speaker 7: And at different locations because we pretty much gear each
- 9:11Speaker 7: date with specific majors. So, for example, November 5th is
- 9:17Speaker 7: in our building 2000, our main building on the South
- 9:19Speaker 7: Charleston campus. So, anyone interested in allied health or business
- 9:23Speaker 7: or gen ed would likely come to that open house
- 9:26Speaker 7: if they're interested in programs that we offer because we
- 9:30Speaker 7: do have a campus in Montgomery, which is about 35
- 9:33Speaker 7: minutes from the South Charleston campus. Dental hygiene is located
- 9:37Speaker 7: over there.
- 9:38Speaker 8: Diesel.
- 9:40Speaker 7: So those are some of the programs over there. So
- 9:42Speaker 7: if you're interested in programs in Montgomery, you come to
- 9:46Speaker 7: us in the Montgomery campus on November 10th. And then
- 9:49Speaker 7: in Toyota Hall on our South Charleston campus, we have
- 9:54Speaker 7: all of our technology and workforce programs are housed in
- 9:57Speaker 7: that area. and that I've been is on November 12th.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Michelle Wicks is the vice president of student affairs at
- 10:05Speaker 2: Bridge Valley Community Technical College. Michelle, it's always a pleasure
- 10:07Speaker 2: to have you folks on the show. And I guess
- 10:10Speaker 2: people just go to the website if they need any information,
- 10:12Speaker 2: anything we talked about. Give us that website.
- 10:15Speaker 7: Exactly. It's www.bridgevalley.edu.
- 10:18Speaker 6: All right.
- 10:18Speaker 2: We'll talk again soon. Thanks a lot.
- 10:20Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 10:21Speaker 2: It is 918 every Friday morning, 906. We do a
- 10:24Speaker 2: thing we call the Adopt Me Please Pet of the
- 10:26Speaker 2: Week from the Kanawha Charleston Humane Association, brought to you
- 10:29Speaker 2: by Almost Heaven Interiors, family-owned, proudly serving the community for
- 10:32Speaker 2: over 50 years. They specialize in custom blinds, shades, shutters, upholstery,
- 10:36Speaker 2: and beautifully crafted sewn goods. Homes to hospitals, classrooms, commercial spaces,
- 10:40Speaker 2: they do it all, 516 D Street in South Charleston.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Danny Jones is going to join us coming up a
- 10:45Speaker 2: little bit later on. Also, we're going to talk a
- 10:47Speaker 2: little biscuit. and gravy when we come back. The third
- 10:50Speaker 2: annual biscuit and gravy bowl happening next month at Capital Market.
- 10:53Speaker 2: It's kind of a fundraiser for the South Ridge Church
- 10:55Speaker 2: for the different programs that they do. So we're going
- 10:57Speaker 2: to talk to the organizers behind that. Quick Texas, congratulations
- 11:00Speaker 2: on your Hall of Fame induction. I remember when you
- 11:03Speaker 2: were just a little guy in the big city taking
- 11:05Speaker 2: over the big shoes of Danny Jones at 9 a.m.,
- 11:07Speaker 2: hoping to continue listening to you for several more years.
- 11:10Speaker 2: I do appreciate that very much. And look, you know,
- 11:14Speaker 2: I said this last night to some people. at the
- 11:18Speaker 2: Broadcasting Hall of Fame induction. I started doing this show
- 11:21Speaker 2: in November of 2020. Now, go back in your Wayback
- 11:25Speaker 2: Machine and think about, I'm sorry, not November, Dave, it's May.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Calendar's hard. May of 2020. Think about what was going
- 11:33Speaker 2: on in May of 2020. The entire country pretty much
- 11:35Speaker 2: was locked down because of COVID. We had the presidential
- 11:38Speaker 2: election going on. So if you're going to start a
- 11:43Speaker 2: talk show that touches on politics from time to time.
- 11:47Speaker 2: What a time to start it. Taking over for Danny
- 11:50Speaker 2: Jones as well. It was the day after Memorial Day
- 11:54Speaker 2: in 2020 is when I took over doing 580 Live.
- 11:57Speaker 2: And of course, I have enjoyed it so much. And
- 12:00Speaker 2: I appreciate all of you listening. We'll take a break.
- 12:03Speaker 2: We're talking food, which is my favorite subject. When we
- 12:06Speaker 2: come back on The Voice of Charleston, WCHS. Brought to
- 12:09Speaker 2: you by the Eric J. Tarr Family Businesses.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Eric J. Tarr Family Businesses have been creating jobs in

- 12:20Speaker 9: Tom Takubo has cared for West Virginians at their hardest
- 12:23Speaker 9: moments as a lung and critical care doctor right here
- 12:27Speaker 9: at home. In the state Senate, he brings that same approach. Listen,
- 12:31Speaker 9: diagnose the problem, fix it. Lower costs, better care, good
- 12:36Speaker 9: jobs that keep our kids here. Not partisan politics, just results.
- 12:42Speaker 5: Dr.

- 14:08Speaker 2: going to join us a little bit later on. How
- 14:10Speaker 2: about some biscuits and gravy? Third annual Biscuit and Gravy
- 14:13Speaker 2: Bowl happening Saturday, November the 14th at Capital Market, 10 a.m.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Fundraiser for Programs at South Ridge Church. Joanne Romeo joins
- 14:21Speaker 2: us to talk about it, along with Mark Harper from
- 14:22Speaker 2: Bricks and Barrels Restaurant. Joanne, how are you doing?
- 14:25Speaker 11: I'm good. How are you doing?
- 14:26Speaker 2: I'm doing fine. Mark, welcome to the show.
- 14:29Speaker 10: Welcome.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Thank you for being here. I appreciate you being here. Um, Joanna,
- 14:33Speaker 2: talk about the origins of this, the third annual. How
- 14:35Speaker 2: did this whole thing come about?
- 14:37Speaker 11: So I was an event planner for March of Dimes.
- 14:39Speaker 11: I attended a breakfast event in Ashland, Kentucky called the
- 14:42Speaker 11: Biscuits and Gravy Bowl. And so I'm like, well, why
- 14:44Speaker 11: doesn't Charleston have a Biscuit and Gravy Bowl event? Because
- 14:48Speaker 11: y'all have like all kinds of food events. So yeah,
- 14:50Speaker 11: I just thought it would be a great family experience
- 14:52Speaker 11: to have and community experience to have.
- 14:55Speaker 2: And I mean, you first approached me about it, I
- 14:58Speaker 2: think the first year, uh, And you asked me if
- 15:02Speaker 2: I wanted to be a part of it, and I said,
- 15:03Speaker 2: of course, because it's helping out a good cause, and
- 15:06Speaker 2: there's biscuits and gravy. And I've been able to judge it,
- 15:10Speaker 2: serve as a judge, and I don't know if I'm
- 15:11Speaker 2: judging this year.
- 15:12Speaker 11: You're on my list, yes.
- 15:14Speaker 2: But I'll be there regardless. By the way, our general manager,
- 15:17Speaker 2: Jared Parsons, told me when I was talking to him
- 15:21Speaker 2: a couple weeks ago about some of the different promotions
- 15:23Speaker 2: coming up, he said to me, I want to be
- 15:26Speaker 2: a judge of this. So the boss wants to be
- 15:29Speaker 2: a part of it. So if I have to give
- 15:30Speaker 2: up my spot for the boss, I will because he
- 15:33Speaker 2: signs my paychecks.
- 15:35Speaker 11: Well, I'll see if I can work both of them.
- 15:36Speaker 6: All right.
- 15:37Speaker 2: It sounds good. Mark, talk about your involvement in this.
- 15:40Speaker 10: Well, I've been going to Southridge Church for about four
- 15:43Speaker 10: or five years. And I've been the general manager at
- 15:48Speaker 10: Bricks and Barrels for about five years now also, kind
- 15:51Speaker 10: of about the same time. Um, and even though we
- 15:54Speaker 10: don't do breakfast stuff, typically, um, they approached me about it, uh,
- 16:00Speaker 10: last year, we weren't in it the first year. Um,
- 16:02Speaker 10: they asked me about it last year. And even though
- 16:05Speaker 10: we don't do breakfast, I got some pretty talented, uh,
- 16:08Speaker 10: cooks over there. So I figured we could come up with, uh,
- 16:11Speaker 10: something to at least, uh, be competitive, uh, in the competition.
- 16:15Speaker 10: So we decided to go ahead that way, kind of.
- 16:19Speaker 10: unites my church family and my work family and kind
- 16:22Speaker 10: of gets both uh together there.
- 16:25Speaker 2: I mean you got fantastic food over there and even
- 16:27Speaker 2: though you may not do biscuits and gravy on a
- 16:30Speaker 2: regular basis i mean you should be able to pick
- 16:33Speaker 2: up on it.
- 16:33Speaker 11: Pretty well by the way because he actually tied in
- 16:36Speaker 11: first place last year with.
- 16:37Speaker 2: The judges Oh, did you?
- 16:40Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 16:40Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 16:41Speaker 10: So we tied for first. So we did all right.
- 16:42Speaker 10: Like I said, I got a couple of pretty good
- 16:44Speaker 10: chefs and cooks over there. So I figured they could
- 16:46Speaker 10: whip something up that would be pretty good.
- 16:47Speaker 2: We're going to talk about how people can enter this
- 16:49Speaker 2: if they want to. But you being a chef, in
- 16:53Speaker 2: your mind, what is it that makes good biscuits and gravy?
- 16:56Speaker 2: In your mind.
- 16:56Speaker 10: Good biscuits and gravy.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Look, it's subjective.
- 16:59Speaker 10: Personally, I feel like, yes, you want to have your
- 17:02Speaker 10: own touch to it. But I feel like a lot
- 17:04Speaker 10: of people try to do too much to it. I agree.
- 17:07Speaker 10: People like classic biscuits and gravy.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:11Speaker 10: A little a little twist here and there, you know,
- 17:13Speaker 10: to make it your own. But don't get too crazy
- 17:16Speaker 10: with it. You know, I think that's the best approach
- 17:18Speaker 10: to have.
- 17:19Speaker 4: I agree.
- 17:19Speaker 2: And again, it's subjective. Everybody likes what they like. But
- 17:22Speaker 2: I mean, I'm a down home Logan County boy. So
- 17:24Speaker 2: just simple biscuits and gravy is fine with me. I'm a.
- 17:27Speaker 2: I'm big on the pepper. I mean, no matter how
- 17:29Speaker 2: much pepper you put on it, Mark, I'm going to
- 17:32Speaker 2: add more pepper to it because I got to have
- 17:33Speaker 2: pepper in mine. Now, how does the whole thing work
- 17:36Speaker 2: for the public, Joanna?
- 17:38Speaker 6: Yes.
- 17:38Speaker 11: So you can register by going to src.life, click on
- 17:42Speaker 11: the calendar and select event. for the biscuit and gravy
- 17:45Speaker 11: bowl or you can go to the facebook event with
- 17:47Speaker 11: the capital market and they're also promoting it with us.
- 17:49Speaker 2: And uh and so when people show up over there
- 17:52Speaker 2: i mean do they is it the ticketed type system
- 17:54Speaker 2: how does the thing.
- 17:55Speaker 11: Work for the public so pre-sale will end the day
- 17:56Speaker 11: before on november 13th at noon so they're 15 pre-sale
- 18:00Speaker 11: for adults and five for children and then at the
- 18:02Speaker 11: door will be 20 and 10 for children and they'll
- 18:05Speaker 11: get a bag at registration with their tokens their bracelets
- 18:08Speaker 11: on and then how to vote and then a list
- 18:09Speaker 11: of all the food contenders so.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Okay, and so how many contenders do you have as
- 18:13Speaker 2: of now?
- 18:13Speaker 11: So right now we have nine pros and four amateurs.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Okay, how do you divide it up between pros and amateurs?
- 18:18Speaker 2: Are they competing with each other? Do you have different categories?
- 18:20Speaker 11: Yes, so here's your new thing. The new thing. Yeah,
- 18:23Speaker 11: so judges this year, they're doing top three for pros,
- 18:26Speaker 11: top two for the amateurs, and you're going to vote
- 18:28Speaker 11: best in presentation who decorates the best. And we're adding
- 18:32Speaker 11: a category called Best Beyond the Biscuits. So anything outside
- 18:35Speaker 11: of biscuits and gravy will be their category.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Okay. What are we looking for in that? I mean,
- 18:39Speaker 2: just anything?
- 18:39Speaker 11: Yeah, anything and everything. That's breakfast edible.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Okay. Well, and again, you could eat whatever, you know,
- 18:45Speaker 2: for breakfast. I guess it's breakfast food.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Yep.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Did you grow up eating them biscuits and gravy? I
- 18:49Speaker 2: don't know your background. I mean, were you a biscuit
- 18:50Speaker 2: and gravy person?
- 18:51Speaker 11: Okay, here's the funny thing. I don't eat breakfast, but
- 18:54Speaker 11: I do for this event, and I do when I
- 18:56Speaker 11: feel like the Southern comfort food.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Okay, because I was going to say, growing up in
- 19:01Speaker 2: Southern West Virginia like I did, I mean, biscuits and
- 19:04Speaker 2: gravy was a staple, you know. I'm like my dad.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I mean, this is going to seem like blasphemy to
- 19:10Speaker 2: a lot of people. I love biscuits and gravy, but
- 19:12Speaker 2: I'm happy with toast and gravy too. That's the way
- 19:15Speaker 2: my dad preferred it, you know. I wish my mom
- 19:18Speaker 2: lived closer.
- 19:19Speaker 11: She makes a mad biscuit and gravy.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Okay, what does your mom do that makes it so good?
- 19:22Speaker 11: She uses real sausage grease and sausage, like leftovers and
- 19:26Speaker 11: stores it and then cooks it.
- 19:27Speaker 2: By the way, if Millie Snyder, our nutrition expert that
- 19:30Speaker 2: is on the show, Millie, you may want to just
- 19:31Speaker 2: turn the radio off right now. Because, look, everything in moderation.
- 19:37Speaker 11: One and two ounce servings.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Everything in moderation, including moderation. You know, that's the way
- 19:42Speaker 2: I live. My mother-in-law, God bless her, my late mother-in-law
- 19:45Speaker 2: made the best biscuits and gravy I ever had. I
- 19:48Speaker 2: don't know what made it so good. but it was good.
- 19:51Speaker 2: It was really, really good. And my wife makes good
- 19:54Speaker 2: biscuits and gravy as well. So I want to talk
- 19:57Speaker 2: about the fundraisers that your church does, because this is
- 19:59Speaker 2: not just a fundraiser for the church per se. It's
- 20:03Speaker 2: about the programs that you offer. Talk about that.
- 20:06Speaker 10: Yeah, so basically we're doing this to raise money for
- 20:10Speaker 10: our other programs that we have in our church. One
- 20:14Speaker 10: of the programs we work with is Recovery Point Charleston,
- 20:18Speaker 10: and it's a recovery point that has 125 ladies in it.
- 20:22Speaker 10: And we offer vans to come pick them up for
- 20:23Speaker 10: church every Sunday. We do a yearly beauty day with
- 20:34Speaker 10: them where we basically they sign up. We go and
- 20:40Speaker 10: pick them up, bring them to the church, let them
- 20:41Speaker 10: get their hair done, their nails done. All that stuff.
- 20:45Speaker 10: Just let them know that people care about them and
- 20:48Speaker 10: they're loved by God and by us. And just that's
- 20:53Speaker 10: that's one of the big, big programs we do. Also,
- 20:57Speaker 10: probably my favorite program. It's a brand new one. We
- 21:00Speaker 10: just started this year for the first time is Project Kicks.
- 21:05Speaker 10: We gave away 500 pairs of shoes to kids at
- 21:09Speaker 10: local elementaries. junior highs and high schools. Basically, they were
- 21:13Speaker 10: all donated or bought by the church. So we felt
- 21:18Speaker 10: that was a big need because, you know, kids don't,
- 21:20Speaker 10: when the start of the new school year, you don't
- 21:23Speaker 10: want to, you want everybody to have a new pair
- 21:25Speaker 10: of shoes. So, you know, a lot of people that
- 21:27Speaker 10: instigates bullying and stuff like that. So we figured we
- 21:30Speaker 10: could reach out to the community, let them know that
- 21:32Speaker 10: we care about them and want them to have the
- 21:34Speaker 10: best experience possible. We also do impact schools program. which
- 21:40Speaker 10: we provide two weeks for 180 families to six local
- 21:47Speaker 10: elementary schools during Christmas break. So basically it ensures that
- 21:52Speaker 10: all the kids have food during the Christmas break. We
- 21:56Speaker 10: also cook for the University of Charleston every home game.
- 22:00Speaker 10: We feed the team the night before the game, make
- 22:03Speaker 10: sure they're fed and ready to go for their game.
- 22:06Speaker 10: We also have a big... imprint on, uh, alum elementary school.
- 22:14Speaker 10: We do, we help with like their fall festival and, uh,
- 22:18Speaker 10: stuff like that. Um, we do a bunch of events
- 22:23Speaker 10: for the kids, like egg hunts. We did a fall carnival. Um,
- 22:27Speaker 10: and these, these fundraiser stuff is how we do this.
- 22:32Speaker 10: I mean, obviously, you know, people from the church donating helps,
- 22:35Speaker 10: But you can always use more money. The more money
- 22:39Speaker 10: you get, the more you can do. And honestly, our
- 22:43Speaker 10: biggest thing is our church wants to be a community
- 22:46Speaker 10: that wants to be a church that our community can't
- 22:48Speaker 10: live without. And the only way to be that is
- 22:51Speaker 10: to get out in the community and provide events and
- 22:54Speaker 10: things like this.
- 22:55Speaker 1: All right.
- 22:55Speaker 2: I want to ask about the sponsors. So are you
- 22:58Speaker 2: still in need of sponsors, Joanna?
- 23:00Speaker 11: Yeah, we'll always say yes to sponsors.
- 23:02Speaker 2: You show up that morning. We'll make a sign with
- 23:04Speaker 2: a Sharpie if we have to.
- 23:05Speaker 10: Exactly.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Do you have some sponsors already that you need to mention?
- 23:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:09Speaker 11: So we want to give a shout out to Incova Insurance,
- 23:11Speaker 11: Casto Construction Crew, WVRC Media Charleston, and then Dave Allen,
- 23:16Speaker 11: the host of the Dave Allen, and the co-host of
- 23:20Speaker 11: the Metro News Midday. And then we also have a
- 23:22Speaker 11: new one, the Airbnb with the Romeos.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Oh, that sounds familiar. That last name sounds familiar. What's
- 23:28Speaker 2: that all about?
- 23:29Speaker 11: So my husband and I launched an Airbnb last year
- 23:32Speaker 11: and started it last October, and we didn't realize how
- 23:34Speaker 11: successful it would be. So that's going to be like
- 23:36Speaker 11: our main career focus in the future. So we just
- 23:38Speaker 11: started our second one.
- 23:39Speaker 4: Really?
- 23:40Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 23:40Speaker 11: And they're in mid-September, and all 30 days almost stay
- 23:44Speaker 11: booked in both of them already.
- 23:45Speaker 2: That's amazing, isn't it?
- 23:46Speaker 1: Yes.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Because people think of Airbnb, and we're getting off on
- 23:49Speaker 2: a tangent here, but people think of Airbnb is just
- 23:52Speaker 2: at the beach per se. I got a buddy of
- 23:55Speaker 2: mine who travels a lot for work, a lot. And
- 23:58Speaker 2: if given the choice between staying at a five-star hotel
- 24:00Speaker 2: and an Airbnb, he'll take the Airbnb every time.
- 24:03Speaker 11: And they both have their own private hot tubs and fireplaces.
- 24:05Speaker 11: So there you go. What more can you ask for
- 24:07Speaker 11: in the mountains?
- 24:07Speaker 2: Where are they located?
- 24:08Speaker 11: On the north side of Charleston up a mountain. So
- 24:10Speaker 11: you don't even feel like you're near a city.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Okay. All right. Sounds good.
- 24:14Speaker 11: I do want to give a few shout outs to
- 24:15Speaker 11: some restaurants participating. We have Fazio's, Bricks and Barrels, Carver Culinary,
- 24:21Speaker 11: We have a new one called the Goldenrod Kitchen. And
- 24:24Speaker 11: then Ursa's Brew Works, Coyer Diner. So there's a few
- 24:27Speaker 11: to name to start off with.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Coyer Diner. Good stuff. Excellent stuff there. All those places
- 24:32Speaker 2: have excellent stuff, but Coyer Diner especially has some really
- 24:35Speaker 2: good stuff, especially breakfast. I've had breakfast there about a
- 24:37Speaker 2: month or so ago. Even though I had it with
- 24:39Speaker 2: Tony the tailor, you know, it was still, I got
- 24:42Speaker 2: through it somehow. But you guys, I mean, you guys
- 24:45Speaker 2: do great things in the community. And that's why we
- 24:48Speaker 2: are so happy to be involved in this. And look, we,
- 24:51Speaker 2: We want to make sure people realize, and I want
- 24:53Speaker 2: to say this without making it sound terrible, but the
- 24:58Speaker 2: programs you're talking about just aren't related to your church.
- 25:01Speaker 2: I mean, that's a very worthwhile cause, but like you said, Mark,
- 25:06Speaker 2: you guys are in the community doing things. You just
- 25:09Speaker 2: happen to be a church, and that's great. But that's
- 25:12Speaker 2: what I love about what you guys do, because there's
- 25:15Speaker 2: always something going on in the community that you guys
- 25:18Speaker 2: are giving back to.
- 25:18Speaker 6: Mm-hmm.
- 25:19Speaker 2: And that's one of the reasons why we are very,
- 25:21Speaker 2: very happy to be a part of it.
- 25:23Speaker 13: All right.
- 25:23Speaker 2: So let me see. What do we cover to get sponsors?
- 25:26Speaker 2: People want to be a sponsor. What's the best way
- 25:27Speaker 2: to get involved?
- 25:30Speaker 11: Just the same way. You can either go to the SRC.live,
- 25:32Speaker 11: click the calendar in the event, or you can contact
- 25:34Speaker 11: me directly. My phone number is 606-465-1088. That would be
- 25:39Speaker 11: the best way for Joanna Romeo.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Okay. And we'll have you on as we get a
- 25:42Speaker 2: little bit closer to the event coming. It started out
- 25:48Speaker 2: kind of small. I was there for the first one.
- 25:50Speaker 2: And then it just keeps getting bigger and better. And plus,
- 25:52Speaker 2: you're in capital market. You start at 10 a.m. on
- 25:55Speaker 2: a Saturday. Most people, that's when they're going to have
- 25:58Speaker 2: a big breakfast. It's usually on the weekend at some point.
- 26:01Speaker 2: So it's one of the greatest environments around Charleston. It's
- 26:05Speaker 2: just an all-around good time. Do you still need judges?
- 26:08Speaker 2: Because you let me sign up, and I think Jared's
- 26:10Speaker 2: going to be a judge at GM. Do you still
- 26:12Speaker 2: need judges?
- 26:14Speaker 11: Maybe not, but, I mean, if one wants to join,
- 26:16Speaker 11: I can maybe add one more.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Well, we can have an alternative.
- 26:18Speaker 11: Yeah, we can have a backup.
- 26:19Speaker 13: All right.
- 26:20Speaker 2: I mentioned Tony the tailor earlier. He and I were
- 26:22Speaker 2: out there last year. Is he there this year, too,
- 26:23Speaker 2: or do you know?
- 26:24Speaker 11: I have no idea.
- 26:25Speaker 2: All right. Well, Tony, if you're listening, guess what? Show up.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Show up. We had some good folks last year, and
- 26:31Speaker 2: from the radio station, too. So we love getting involved
- 26:34Speaker 2: in this. We had a text here. I want to
- 26:35Speaker 2: get your take on this, Mark. A text said, the
- 26:37Speaker 2: best sausage gravy on planet Earth can be found at McDonald's,
- 26:40Speaker 2: hands down.
- 26:42Speaker 11: I kind of agree. Sorry.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Mark, as a chef? There's a place for it? Could
- 26:50Speaker 2: you say that?
- 26:51Speaker 10: I mean, yeah, their biscuits and gravy is pretty good, but.
- 26:54Speaker 1: But what is it?
- 26:55Speaker 2: That's the thing I'm asking. What exactly is it? Look,
- 26:59Speaker 2: I like it as well. I like it as well.
- 27:01Speaker 2: That's one of the things I love about my buddy,
- 27:02Speaker 2: Chef Paul. Chef Paul's on with Hotline. every uh monday
- 27:06Speaker 2: and i usually listen to him in the office as
- 27:08Speaker 2: he said he said look there's nothing wrong with a
- 27:10Speaker 2: little fast food every now and then there's a place
- 27:12Speaker 2: for mcdonald's and wendy's and all these other places i
- 27:15Speaker 2: would not go as far as that texture did to
- 27:16Speaker 2: say it's the best sausage gravy.
- 27:18Speaker 10: Yeah that's that's a little much for me but.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Hey to each to each to each there are i'm
- 27:22Speaker 2: gonna give you a chance to do a little thing
- 27:24Speaker 2: for your restaurant there, separate from the Biscuits and Barrels.
- 27:27Speaker 6: All right.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Tell us about Biscuits and Barrels. I'm giving you a
- 27:29Speaker 2: free commercial.
- 27:30Speaker 10: Yeah, there we go.
- 27:31Speaker 2: I hope the manager's not listening right now. But go ahead.
- 27:33Speaker 10: Tell me a little bit about Biscuits and Barrels. So,
- 27:35Speaker 10: like I said, we aren't a breakfast place. We are
- 27:38Speaker 10: definitely a dinner place. For people that don't know, we
- 27:41Speaker 10: are located right across the Go-Mart Ballpark in the brick building.
- 27:47Speaker 10: Biscuits and Barrels, hence the name, right across from the ballpark.
- 27:50Speaker 14: We are.
- 27:53Speaker 10: Pretty much like a casual fine dining, uh, restaurant. Um, so,
- 28:00Speaker 10: you know, like we provide good date nights, business meetings, uh,
- 28:05Speaker 10: type environment, but we're also casual enough if you just
- 28:07Speaker 10: want to bring the family out and kids out, um,
- 28:10Speaker 10: that we pretty much try to, uh, be comfortable for
- 28:13Speaker 10: any type of environment that you might want. Um, and
- 28:17Speaker 10: we have great food. We have, uh, great, great chefs. Um, we, um,
- 28:22Speaker 10: Pretty much our steak and seafood is what we're known for.
- 28:26Speaker 2: You had me at steak and seafood.
- 28:27Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 28:29Speaker 10: You can't go wrong with that. If you've got somebody
- 28:30Speaker 10: that knows how to cook it, then it's pretty good.
- 28:34Speaker 2: I'm going to admit I've not had a steak at
- 28:36Speaker 2: your restaurant. I'm not very particular about a lot of foods.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Joanna's known me for a long time. She'll tell you
- 28:41Speaker 2: I'm not very particular. However, with my steak, I want
- 28:45Speaker 2: it medium rare. With the emphasis on rare, eventually as
- 28:49Speaker 2: I get older, I'm just going to go punch a
- 28:51Speaker 2: cow in the mouth and just start eating because I
- 28:53Speaker 2: want it rare.
- 28:55Speaker 11: I can vouch for him, actually. I've had your steak
- 28:57Speaker 11: every bite, and I like it rare, mooing, and catching.
- 29:00Speaker 2: All right. There you go.
- 29:01Speaker 5: All right.
- 29:02Speaker 2: It sounds good.
- 29:03Speaker 11: And it was good.
- 29:04Speaker 10: All right. Yeah, you come try one. We'll get you
- 29:06Speaker 10: squared away. What's the most popular thing on the menu?
- 29:08Speaker 10: Most popular thing on the menu?
- 29:09Speaker 2: Two or three things.
- 29:11Speaker 10: Definitely our Parmesan and crusted chicken is a very popular item. Uh,
- 29:18Speaker 10: our fillets, um, and probably I would say our scallops
- 29:23Speaker 10: are probably the top, the top three, uh, like unique
- 29:27Speaker 10: things that no one else had other than the steak, obviously, uh,
- 29:31Speaker 10: that anyone else really has that, uh, I feel like
- 29:34Speaker 10: people really come to the restaurant to, to get.
- 29:36Speaker 2: All right. Steak and scallops.
- 29:38Speaker 10: But we got a big menu. and everything on it's good.
- 29:41Speaker 11: Listen, the red snapper is the die for and the
- 29:42Speaker 11: scallops are.
- 29:43Speaker 10: Also, we have a fried green tomato Napoleon appetizer. It's
- 29:47Speaker 10: a very unique dish that is very popular that some
- 29:50Speaker 10: people drive Over an hour for just to come eat that.
- 29:53Speaker 10: So that's another good one.
- 29:55Speaker 2: It sounds good.
- 29:55Speaker 5: All right.
- 29:56Speaker 2: Let's get back to the biscuits and gravy. Give us
- 29:58Speaker 2: all the details. Joanna, the time, the date, capital market.
- 30:02Speaker 2: Take it from there.
- 30:03Speaker 5: Yes.
- 30:03Speaker 11: So it's going to be the second Saturday, November 14th.
- 30:05Speaker 11: It'll start at 10 a.m. And we'll stop serving food
- 30:08Speaker 11: around 12 to 12, 15 p.m. Voting stops. And then
- 30:10Speaker 11: all the winners will be announced from 12, 15 to 12,
- 30:12Speaker 11: 30 p.m. All right. All right.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Mark, it's a pleasure to get to meet you. Joanne,
- 30:17Speaker 2: it's always great to see you, and I will see
- 30:19Speaker 2: you over there. Please take care of my general manager.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Please let him be a judge, even if you've got
- 30:23Speaker 2: to give him my spot.
- 30:24Speaker 11: Because I'm hungry.
- 30:25Speaker 2: Because we're going to be over there anyway. Our stations

- 34:22Speaker 2: beat with 107.3 to beat back at Go Mart Ballpark
- 34:24Speaker 2: tomorrow night. Two sessions, 1-6-7. The other 7-30 to 8-30
- 34:28Speaker 2: presented by Salango Law. Admission is free, but you must
- 34:30Speaker 2: have tickets to enter. Tickets are available at our business offices,
- 34:34Speaker 2: 1111 Virginia Street East in Charleston. And here's the thing.
- 34:37Speaker 2: I just went out during the break. I was talking
- 34:39Speaker 2: to the curator of tickets, Antoine, out here at the
- 34:42Speaker 2: front desk. There are a grand total of three tickets,
- 34:47Speaker 2: three tickets left for the first session, about 20 remain
- 34:52Speaker 2: for the second session. So I'm going to say by lunchtime,
- 34:54Speaker 2: all those tickets are going to be gone. So if
- 34:56Speaker 2: you want to go to trick or beat, and once
- 34:58Speaker 2: those tickets are gone, they gone, uh, you need to
- 35:01Speaker 2: get in here to our offices. We're open, uh, you know,
- 35:04Speaker 2: nine to five or so, uh, Monday through Friday, 11, 11,
- 35:06Speaker 2: Virginia street, Eastern Charleston. But again, uh, Three tickets remain.
- 35:11Speaker 6: Three.
- 35:12Speaker 2: A grand total of three tickets remain for Session 1.
- 35:15Speaker 2: About 20 for Session 2. So you need to get
- 35:17Speaker 2: those tickets for the next couple of hours because I
- 35:19Speaker 2: have a feeling this time tomorrow I'm going to be
- 35:21Speaker 2: saying there are zero tickets left. Quickly, before we get
- 35:23Speaker 2: to Danny, I do want to say thank you to
- 35:25Speaker 2: all the kind words for people reaching out to me
- 35:28Speaker 2: about getting inducted last night to the West Virginia Broadcasting
- 35:30Speaker 2: Hall of Fame. Nice ceremony for me and the six
- 35:33Speaker 2: other inductees. Appreciate it. Looking forward to continuing 38 years.
- 35:38Speaker 2: Got 38 more or 40 left to go, I think.
- 35:43Speaker 2: And as you just heard on the promo there, they're
- 35:45Speaker 2: actually going to broadcast the Hall of Fame, the audio
- 35:48Speaker 2: of the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies this coming Saturday
- 35:52Speaker 2: night here on WCHS. I will not be a midday today.
- 35:55Speaker 2: I'm heading down to Logan County for the funeral of
- 35:57Speaker 2: my stepmother today. I appreciate the thoughts and prayers there
- 36:00Speaker 2: as well. I will be back with you tomorrow on
- 36:02Speaker 2: the local show tomorrow. Trans-Siberian Orchestra coming to the Vandalia
- 36:05Speaker 2: Health Center. That's right. I said it. I'm still working
- 36:08Speaker 2: on it. Formerly the Coliseum and Convention Center. We'll talk
- 36:10Speaker 2: to another member of the band on the show tomorrow.
- 36:12Speaker 2: Also on the show tomorrow, Delegate J.B. Akers, who's hoping
- 36:15Speaker 2: you will re-elect him to the House. He'll give his
- 36:19Speaker 2: campaign speech on the show tomorrow. And speaking of which,
- 36:21Speaker 2: if you're a candidate for office and you want that
- 36:23Speaker 2: free interview with me, you better hurry. Very, very, very
- 36:26Speaker 2: limited spots are available. Email dave.allenwvradio.com, dave.allenwvradio.com. Let's bring in
- 36:33Speaker 2: our good friend Danny Jones. How are you, my friend?
- 36:35Speaker 6: I'm doing real well. And I'm speaking as a former
- 36:40Speaker 6: employee of Tudor's and one that made biscuits and gravy.
- 36:46Speaker 6: I've got my preference.
- 36:49Speaker 1: Now, wait a minute.
- 36:49Speaker 2: You worked at Tudor's, too?
- 36:50Speaker 6: 2002.
- 36:54Speaker 8: You worked at.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Tudor's in 2002, Danny?
- 36:58Speaker 6: I worked there in 2001 and 2002 for six months.
- 37:04Speaker 2: How did you end up working at Tudor's?
- 37:07Speaker 6: Well, I'm friends with Osho.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Okay. But, I mean, most friends that are friends with
- 37:11Speaker 2: Osho Crago don't go put on the apron and just
- 37:15Speaker 2: start cooking at Tudor's. So you actually worked at Tudor's?
- 37:19Speaker 6: I did that because I wanted to.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Well, obviously.
- 37:22Speaker 6: I went to Madison once a week, but my job
- 37:26Speaker 6: was franchise, and I helped set up the franchise.
- 37:30Speaker 2: Oh, okay, okay. But you did it because you are
- 37:33Speaker 2: a food guy. You did get behind the stove every
- 37:36Speaker 2: now and then, right?
- 37:38Speaker 6: Yeah, and I'm, you know, like I say, Osho and
- 37:40Speaker 6: I are friends. We're good buddies, and I think Tudor's
- 37:44Speaker 6: has good biscuits and gravy.
- 37:46Speaker 2: I do, too. And I'll tell you something else that
- 37:47Speaker 2: Tudor's has that's very good that people don't think about
- 37:51Speaker 2: is the hot dogs. I'm a big fan of the
- 37:53Speaker 2: hot dogs at Tudor's.
- 37:55Speaker 6: And the barbecue sandwich. Yeah.
- 37:58Speaker 2: And my favorite biscuit there, and I've got to give
- 38:00Speaker 2: him credit. Chris Lawrence turned me on to this. My
- 38:02Speaker 2: favorite biscuit there is the Rocket. And they kind of
- 38:05Speaker 2: take it on the menu. They have it on the menu.
- 38:07Speaker 2: They don't have it on the menu. But the Rocket
- 38:09Speaker 2: is the steak. It's like a country steak with the
- 38:12Speaker 2: hash brown and the cheese and the egg and everything.
- 38:14Speaker 2: The Rocket is without a doubt my favorite. So you're
- 38:16Speaker 2: out in Cali.
- 38:17Speaker 10: Go ahead.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 38:19Speaker 6: I'm thundering her, but go ahead.
- 38:20Speaker 2: Okay. So how are things out in Cali? You're back
- 38:23Speaker 2: in California, my friend.
- 38:25Speaker 6: Well, Pacific Coast Highway, which is highway number one, you know,
- 38:31Speaker 6: runs all the way up down the coast. South of
- 38:34Speaker 6: where I am, it's flooded.
- 38:37Speaker 13: Oh.
- 38:37Speaker 6: So it's... it's got traffic jammed up and I don't
- 38:42Speaker 6: know what caused the flood. If it's the ocean or,
- 38:45Speaker 6: you know, the waterway that I don't, I didn't ask.
- 38:49Speaker 2: Okay.
- 38:50Speaker 6: And I go to long beach once a day and,
- 38:55Speaker 6: you know, that's all I need to do.
- 38:59Speaker 2: So what's what are you watching politically these days? Because
- 39:04Speaker 2: I guess I'll have you back on the show on my,
- 39:06Speaker 2: are you good to come on the show with me
- 39:07Speaker 2: on Monday?
- 39:10Speaker 6: I can come on Wednesday, David. I have to go
- 39:14Speaker 6: to the VA.
- 39:15Speaker 17: Oh, okay.
- 39:15Speaker 11: All right.
- 39:16Speaker 2: All right. Well, we'll arrange for next Wednesday then. Well,
- 39:18Speaker 2: that'll be good. That'll be the day after the election,
- 39:20Speaker 2: so you can kind of give your analogy.
- 39:21Speaker 6: Well, I'll tell you now. I mean, the Republicans are
- 39:25Speaker 6: going to lose five seats in the Senate.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Okay. Five.
- 39:29Speaker 6: Yeah. And hopefully they'll only lose 20 seats in the House.
- 39:35Speaker 6: And they have to get new leadership in the House.
- 39:41Speaker 6: Mike Johnson's really weak. And they had a good leader,
- 39:45Speaker 6: but you had– When you have people like Nancy Mace
- 39:49Speaker 6: and Matt Getz that get up and want to disrupt
- 39:54Speaker 6: everything and they cost Kevin McCarthy the leadership, this is
- 40:00Speaker 6: what happens.
- 40:02Speaker 2: How did we get to a place, Danny, in your opinion,
- 40:06Speaker 2: and I'm going to say this as nicely as I can,
- 40:08Speaker 2: and I'm talking on the national level. I'm not necessarily,
- 40:10Speaker 2: although there are some, you know, there's a little bit
- 40:12Speaker 2: of reverb here in West Virginia as well, but on
- 40:14Speaker 2: the national level, How did we get to a place
- 40:16Speaker 2: where everybody's crazy on the right and on the left?
- 40:20Speaker 2: I mean, these are a bunch. I mean, I'm going
- 40:21Speaker 2: to be honest with you. My humble opinion, you have
- 40:23Speaker 2: a bunch of lunatics on the left and the far left,
- 40:27Speaker 2: far right in this country. How did we get to
- 40:29Speaker 2: this place?
- 40:31Speaker 6: Well, I think the number one call is the guy
- 40:36Speaker 6: in the White House.
- 40:38Speaker 2: Okay. Explain that.
- 40:40Speaker 6: I think he creates craziness on both sides. And like
- 40:47Speaker 6: I said, when I was on there, I think last
- 40:51Speaker 6: week or the week before, our lives and this talk
- 40:56Speaker 6: show and 12-step meetings, everything is a constant search for
- 40:59Speaker 6: the truth. And unfortunately, people look at him and they
- 41:03Speaker 6: see the truth. And nothing could be further from the truth.
- 41:09Speaker 6: And it's costing— Elsa is going to win in Michigan.
- 41:13Speaker 12: Mm-hmm.
- 41:15Speaker 6: Susan Collins is in trouble in Maine. Joe's been up
- 41:18Speaker 6: there campaigning for her.
- 41:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. I know that. Do you think that, and
- 41:25Speaker 2: I've talked about this, about the way that Republican candidates
- 41:28Speaker 2: are distancing themselves from President Trump, his approval ratings in
- 41:31Speaker 2: the low 30s, depending on which poll that you look at.
- 41:34Speaker 2: So Trump has been going to, quote unquote, safe areas
- 41:38Speaker 2: where he's beloved. and he's avoiding these areas where there
- 41:41Speaker 2: are tough races. I don't see a lot of advertising
- 41:45Speaker 2: in West Virginia. Of course, granted, we're in the general
- 41:49Speaker 2: election season, but I don't see a lot of Republicans
- 41:51Speaker 2: in West Virginia wrapping themselves around Donald Trump the way
- 41:53Speaker 2: that they did in the past. This time, a few
- 41:56Speaker 2: years ago, like I said yesterday, it was a contest
- 41:58Speaker 2: between who's the Trumpiest, me or you. I like you more. No,
- 42:01Speaker 2: I like you more. No, he likes me more. You
- 42:03Speaker 2: don't see a heck of a lot of that in
- 42:04Speaker 2: West Virginia now.
- 42:06Speaker 6: We are one of three states that still support Trump.
- 42:12Speaker 6: And Wyoming and Idaho and West Virginia, the three states
- 42:16Speaker 6: that have him in the positive column. I mean, his
- 42:20Speaker 6: numbers are almost down in Nixon territory. And you said, well,
- 42:25Speaker 6: he goes to safe states. He's going to safe states, David,
- 42:29Speaker 6: because his candidates are in trouble. When you put up
- 42:32Speaker 6: people like.
- 42:35Speaker 6: Uh, Paxton in Texas. Are you kidding me? You had
- 42:39Speaker 6: a safe seat there. You had John Cornyn. They didn't
- 42:45Speaker 6: want a safe seat. They don't want to win. You know, they,
- 42:51Speaker 6: they don't, they don't want to win.
- 42:54Speaker 2: We had a text here said, and I can't say
- 42:56Speaker 2: what they referred to, but they said, Matt, uh, I mean,
- 42:58Speaker 2: let me just clean up. Matt, uh, Matt Gates is
- 43:00Speaker 2: a blank meaning bad person. He ruined the House, and
- 43:04Speaker 2: now he's a nobody. He was a bad guy. Your
- 43:06Speaker 2: take on that?
- 43:07Speaker 6: And Trump wanted to make him Attorney General. I mean,
- 43:12Speaker 6: you couldn't make this up. And instead of having James
- 43:17Speaker 6: Mattis as Secretary of Defense, you've got that... You've got
- 43:23Speaker 6: that philandering drunk. Texas.
- 43:29Speaker 11: I mean.
- 43:30Speaker 6: It's a joke. It's laughable. You see, Trump wants people
- 43:36Speaker 6: to tell him what he wants to hear, not what
- 43:39Speaker 6: he needs to hear.
- 43:40Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 43:40Speaker 2: All right. Danny, we've got to take a break. It's 9.51.

- 46:30Speaker 2: danny jones is with us via the Guarantee Bank hotline,
- 46:34Speaker 2: living it up in California right now. Text says, Danny
- 46:38Speaker 2: has never been more clear in his assessments of the
- 46:41Speaker 2: MAGA GOP. Again, Obama was a center-right president, and Biden
- 46:46Speaker 2: won more Republicans than Trump did in 2020. I'd say
- 46:49Speaker 2: the radical left is doing just fine this time around.
- 46:52Speaker 2: You would say what, Danny?
- 46:54Speaker 6: Well, I don't think Obama was center-right. I think he
- 46:57Speaker 6: was center-left, and I like President Obama. I got to
- 47:01Speaker 6: ride in the car with him. He was very kind,
- 47:04Speaker 6: very nice. But he's not for Israel. And he's center left,
- 47:10Speaker 6: but he's, I mean, he spoke English and he wasn't hateful.
- 47:17Speaker 6: And he's a good man. But two Republicans, you're one
- 47:24Speaker 6: of them, you're going to be on your show. If
- 47:25Speaker 6: we could all have Republicans like the Kubo and Mike
- 47:29Speaker 6: JB Acres, then you'd have a winning party.
- 47:33Speaker 2: Talking to Danny Jones, the Dave Allen Show on 580 Live,

- 47:38Speaker 2: questions come up in a building, Pinnacle provides clear answers.

- 47:47Speaker 2: at PinnacleCorp.net, helping you understand your environment because what you
- 47:50Speaker 2: don't know can hurt you. A text says, calling people
- 47:54Speaker 2: on the left crazy after the past 10 years is
- 47:56Speaker 2: a compliment if it means we are not drinking the Kool-Aid.
- 48:00Speaker 2: I'm just convinced, Danny, that everybody's crazy. That's just where
- 48:04Speaker 2: I am. I just think everybody's crazy. Let me read
- 48:09Speaker 2: out this text. You can comment. Why do you have
- 48:13Speaker 2: to both sides extremism and then run for cover? I'm sorry,
- 48:17Speaker 2: then run cover for Republicans. It's not far right. The
- 48:20Speaker 2: entire Republicans are extremes. I don't agree with that.
- 48:24Speaker 5: I do not.
- 48:24Speaker 2: I mean, you mentioned a couple that I'm going to
- 48:27Speaker 2: have on the show tomorrow. I mean, I don't see J.B.
- 48:29Speaker 2: Akers as being extreme.
- 48:31Speaker 6: I don't think when I was a Republican I was extreme.
- 48:34Speaker 2: No, I don't think. And I think there are a
- 48:36Speaker 2: lot of Republicans that aren't extreme, and I think there
- 48:38Speaker 2: are a lot of Democrats that aren't extreme. The problem is, though,
- 48:43Speaker 2: and I have brought this message up on the show before,
- 48:46Speaker 2: there is a good friend of mine, not in Kanawha County,
- 48:49Speaker 2: who is running for the legislature right now, in a
- 48:52Speaker 2: totally different county, who is a Democrat. Moderate, old school,
- 48:56Speaker 2: John Kennedy, you know, whatever, Democrat, okay? He is, in
- 49:01Speaker 2: his race, is getting painted as a far left wing,
- 49:06Speaker 2: vote for this person is a vote for AOC, for
- 49:10Speaker 2: El Saeed, you know, whatever, fill in name here. Couldn't
- 49:12Speaker 2: be any further from the truth, but that's the narrative
- 49:14Speaker 2: being painted because he has a D after his name.
- 49:17Speaker 6: Yeah, and that's what people do, and it's... not a
- 49:21Speaker 6: thing where what people ought to do is what Goldwater
- 49:27Speaker 6: and Kennedy were going to do in 64. They were
- 49:30Speaker 6: going to travel together and debate each other. You know,
- 49:34Speaker 6: people ought to stand next to each other and go
- 49:36Speaker 6: in front of groups instead of spending all that money
- 49:39Speaker 6: on lies. I hope your friend wins. I don't know
- 49:45Speaker 6: who he is, but we don't have enough Democrats. We need...
- 49:51Speaker 6: I mean, I'm for Takuba.
- 49:54Speaker 2: But how do we get back to... I mean, look,
- 49:57Speaker 2: the only way, in my opinion, and I'm not trying
- 49:59Speaker 2: to tell Mike Pushkin how to run his party or whatever,
- 50:02Speaker 2: but the only way... that you have a chance in
- 50:05Speaker 2: West Virginia to win as a Democrat is you have to,
- 50:08Speaker 2: I think you've got to step up to the plate
- 50:10Speaker 2: and say, look, I'm my own person. I don't identify
- 50:13Speaker 2: with the national democratic party. I'm not that kind of Democrat.
- 50:16Speaker 2: I'm an old school West Virginia Democrat. You might have
- 50:19Speaker 2: a chance, but until they can do that, I don't
- 50:21Speaker 2: see it happening.
- 50:24Speaker 6: I think Mike's got an impossible job. I think he
- 50:27Speaker 6: does the best he can. And, um, Remember, he's got
- 50:32Speaker 6: a constituency he has to deal with. He had competition
- 50:37Speaker 6: for the job this time. And so I think he
- 50:44Speaker 6: does the best he can with what he has to
- 50:47Speaker 6: deal with.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Let me give you the final text to get your
- 50:49Speaker 2: opinion on it. It says, us lowercase independents aren't crazy.
- 50:53Speaker 2: We're just not organized. Whoever can harness the independent middle
- 50:56Speaker 2: will win the day. That's what MAGA did, but it
- 50:59Speaker 2: swamped the GOP. Your thoughts on that, and then we
- 51:01Speaker 2: got to go.
- 51:02Speaker 6: Well, it sounds like Joe Manchin.
- 51:04Speaker 5: All right, Danny.
- 51:07Speaker 6: I'm an independent, too.
- 51:09Speaker 2: Yeah, as am I. All right, Danny, I'm going to
- 51:11Speaker 2: talk to you after Election Day. I think you'll still
- 51:15Speaker 2: be in California next week.
- 51:16Speaker 6: No, no, no, I'll be home.
- 51:18Speaker 2: You'll be back in the house next Wednesday. All right, Danny,
- 51:20Speaker 2: we'll talk to you after Election Day. Thanks, my friend.
- 51:23Speaker 2: Talk next week.
- 51:24Speaker 6: Thank you, David.
