- 0:39Speaker 1: Out of bubble Dave Allen.
- 0:58Speaker 4: But at least you can buy alcohol now, so you
- 0:59Speaker 4: got there going for you right right? All right, Let's
- 1:02Speaker 4: get to the Adopt Me Please sput of the Week
- 1:04Speaker 4: and as always, pictures post to Dave Allen Radio and Facebook.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Also the WCCHS network Facebook page, as well as my
- 1:10Speaker 4: ex page. It's at David seventy. Tell us all about Henry.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Uh So. Henry is one of the sweetest dogs I've
- 1:17Speaker 2: met in my time at the shelter. He's about eight
- 1:20Speaker 2: to nine years old, so if you love a senior dog,
- 1:23Speaker 2: he is going to be a perfect option for you.
- 1:25Speaker 2: He does well in play groups, he just he gets
- 1:28Speaker 2: kind of put off by other male dogs. But he
- 1:30Speaker 2: can coexist with other male dogs, he just doesn't like them.
- 1:33Speaker 4: In his face. He must be like I am with people. Then,
- 1:36Speaker 4: you know, he just kind of gets kind of get
- 1:38Speaker 4: put off with people. Don't want him in my face.
- 1:39Speaker 4: So I can relate Henry.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I can relate, all right, Only ladies are welcome in
- 1:44Speaker 2: his face.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Okay, I got it.
- 1:45Speaker 5: I got it.
- 1:47Speaker 2: But we don't have any history on how he is
- 1:48Speaker 2: a cat. He does great with kids, and he loves, loves,
- 1:52Speaker 2: loves to play with toys, specifically anything that's in the
- 1:55Speaker 2: shape of a tennis ball. But he's neutered, he's sponsored
- 1:59Speaker 2: and ready to get out of the shelter. He's had
- 2:02Speaker 2: such a rough start to his life that I would
- 2:05Speaker 2: love more than anything to see him go.
- 2:07Speaker 4: What do we know? You said that in your text
- 2:09Speaker 4: to me that you that you send me prior to
- 2:10Speaker 4: the show, that he'd had a rough life. What do
- 2:13Speaker 4: we know about his life? I know there's probably not
- 2:15Speaker 4: a lot, but what makes you think he had a
- 2:16Speaker 4: rough life coming in?
- 2:18Speaker 2: So essentially there's not a whole lot of details that
- 2:20Speaker 2: I can share, but we'll just say that he came
- 2:22Speaker 2: in as a cruelty case, okay, from his previous owners,
- 2:26Speaker 2: and we'll call it like that.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Okay, say that all right, sounds that sounds good. Meanwhile
- 2:31Speaker 4: for that person, spot reserved in hell, all right, all right,
- 2:34Speaker 4: So Henry would be a great, great dog. And again,
- 2:37Speaker 4: that's one of the things that amazes me about these
- 2:39Speaker 4: animals that we talk about every week, is there are
- 2:42Speaker 4: so many of them, Manjie, as you well know, that
- 2:44Speaker 4: have gone through horrific things. I mean absolutely, and don't
- 2:48Speaker 4: I don't know. I'm not touch speaking about Henry specifically,
- 2:50Speaker 4: but I mean animals and general that have gone through
- 2:53Speaker 4: absolutely just devastating things. But still the tail still wagon.
- 2:57Speaker 4: They still want to place, the play play with the kids,
- 3:00Speaker 4: and they still want to go chase a tennis ball.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Yeah, it's I was thinking about this the other night,
- 3:06Speaker 2: just about how amazing animals are in that fact of
- 3:08Speaker 2: how easy they are to forgive and how loyal they
- 3:11Speaker 2: are to people when people a lot of people most
- 3:14Speaker 2: certainly don't deserve it. So I was actually thinking about
- 3:17Speaker 2: that the other night.
- 3:18Speaker 4: Well, let's try to get Henry home, because I mean,
- 3:20Speaker 4: he's a great looking dog. What kind of dog any idea.
- 3:24Speaker 2: So I would say I've been calling him a boxer
- 3:26Speaker 2: of a different faunt. Boxers will typically come in that color,
- 3:30Speaker 2: but I just say boxer and a different fault.
- 3:32Speaker 4: He is a beautiful, beautiful dog. And again I mean
- 3:37Speaker 4: checks all the boxes, man, I mean, you know, he's
- 3:39Speaker 4: great with other calm dogs, great with kids, don't know
- 3:41Speaker 4: about cats yet, but loves to play and for everything
- 3:46Speaker 4: this dog has gone through is what you've told me.
- 3:49Speaker 4: And I know you can't you know, can't tell us
- 3:50Speaker 4: too much because it was a cruelty case. He's he's
- 3:53Speaker 4: ready to go, and he needs to get out of
- 3:54Speaker 4: the shelter and he needs to be in somebody's home.
- 3:57Speaker 2: Absolutely, yeah, I just he is the perfect dog. I
- 4:02Speaker 2: can't explain it enough. You see me stumbling over my words.
- 4:05Speaker 2: He's just a great dog.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Well again, we want to you know, we do this
- 4:10Speaker 4: feature every Friday, the Adopt Me Please put of the Week,
- 4:12Speaker 4: and we always want our dogs adopted, but this one especially,
- 4:15Speaker 4: I am calling on you listeners of this show, or
- 4:18Speaker 4: if you know somebody that is looking for a great dog,
- 4:20Speaker 4: and you will be the hero of the day, it
- 4:23Speaker 4: perhaps the year if you go and you adopt this dog,
- 4:26Speaker 4: because this dog has had a rough, rough life and
- 4:28Speaker 4: he's still if dogs could smile, he's smiling. He's still
- 4:31Speaker 4: ready to go be a great, great addition to your family,
- 4:34Speaker 4: and we'll get we'll get back to Henry here in
- 4:36Speaker 4: a couple of moments. I want to give props Angie
- 4:39Speaker 4: to Kadak County Commissioner Lance Wheeler, because he's working with
- 4:43Speaker 4: you guys, and I just saw this on your social media,
- 4:45Speaker 4: trying to find homes for the longest serving residents of
- 4:49Speaker 4: the shelter. Talk about that.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Uh yeah, So we are very thankful for Commissioner Wheeler's
- 4:54Speaker 2: idea to do that. Our long term residents often get
- 4:57Speaker 2: overlooked because you know, you know their name, you know
- 5:00Speaker 2: they look like and you just you know, you keep
- 5:01Speaker 2: scrolling when you see it, usually because you know you
- 5:04Speaker 2: know these dogs. But we're super thankful for Commissioner Wheeler
- 5:08Speaker 2: for shining essentially a new spotlight on these dogs and
- 5:13Speaker 2: sharing that same mission that we have of wanting to
- 5:16Speaker 2: place even the ones that are kind of hard, harder
- 5:19Speaker 2: to place but not harder to love. We we appreciate
- 5:22Speaker 2: him also sharing that same mission and same belief with us.
- 5:25Speaker 4: And speaking of dogs, that have been around a long time.
- 5:29Speaker 4: I understand around New Year's the longest serving if you will,
- 5:34Speaker 4: resident of the shelter. Herculess got adopted.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Yes, we actually I could not believe it. I didn't
- 5:41Speaker 2: know that that was happening. Like I just I could
- 5:43Speaker 2: not believe that that was happening. Hercules had been in
- 5:46Speaker 2: our shelter for almost two years, or you know, really
- 5:49Speaker 2: close to that two year mark, and he's one of
- 5:53Speaker 2: those dogs that needed a very very unique home with
- 5:56Speaker 2: no kids, no other pets, adults only in the home
- 6:00Speaker 2: and by a miracle, by the miracle of twenty twenty six,
- 6:04Speaker 2: as I'm calling it, that perfect home walk through the
- 6:06Speaker 2: door right before we closed on New Year's Eve.
- 6:08Speaker 4: I mean, how cool is that? You can't write a
- 6:10Speaker 4: better Hollywood script than that, Angie?
- 6:12Speaker 2: I know, and I am hoping an agent is listening
- 6:15Speaker 2: and that story up.
- 6:17Speaker 4: All right, all right, definitely, if we have a lot
- 6:20Speaker 4: of agents that listen to this show, then let's make
- 6:22Speaker 4: this happen. But Dave Allen Show on five Eddie Lives
- 6:24Speaker 4: brought to you apart by Live Healthy West Virginia presented
- 6:26Speaker 4: by WVU Medicine, a podcast promoting healthy your lifestyles than
- 6:30Speaker 4: to be on the state. Check capt of latest episodes
- 6:32Speaker 4: wv metronews dot com in to the podcast menu. A
- 6:35Speaker 4: couple of texts here for you. Angie one says, are
- 6:36Speaker 4: there any updates that can be shared about the sweet
- 6:38Speaker 4: young puppy that was found in a grocery cart at
- 6:41Speaker 4: lu Kroger It was having seizures? Also does anyone know
- 6:45Speaker 4: what the siblings are safe? Textas says read online that
- 6:48Speaker 4: they were too way too young to be taken away
- 6:51Speaker 4: from their mama.
- 6:51Speaker 6: I know you do.
- 6:52Speaker 4: You had the picture and the story posted on the
- 6:54Speaker 4: Facebook page of the shelter. What can you tell us
- 6:56Speaker 4: about that particular case?
- 6:58Speaker 2: I'm I finally have some wonderful updates on that puppy.
- 7:03Speaker 2: The solid black puppy is eating on its own now,
- 7:06Speaker 2: it's alert and it's it's still in our ICU unit
- 7:09Speaker 2: to be monitored, but it's been just nothing but progress
- 7:14Speaker 2: since that night. So that puppy is doing wonderful and
- 7:18Speaker 2: we actually got the two siblings as well. I do
- 7:21Speaker 2: believe their names are Ginger, Salt and Pepper if you
- 7:24Speaker 2: want to call and get updates on them. But everyone
- 7:27Speaker 2: is doing great so far.
- 7:28Speaker 4: All right, you guys outed about anywhere this weekend.
- 7:31Speaker 2: We are not. We're going to take the new year
- 7:34Speaker 2: in just at CASEYHA will be open from twelve to
- 7:37Speaker 2: five Saturday.
- 7:38Speaker 4: And Sunday, so all right, well, certainly you deserve a
- 7:41Speaker 4: little bit of a rest. We have another text here,
- 7:43Speaker 4: so are there any of your puppies going to be
- 7:46Speaker 4: in a puppy bowl this year?
- 7:49Speaker 2: That I do not believe so I have not received
- 7:53Speaker 2: any emails about it. But our other community engagement director, Sarah,
- 7:57Speaker 2: she might have had some comms on that. So if
- 7:59Speaker 2: I find out that information for her, I will definitely
- 8:03Speaker 2: let you know and we can talk about that next week.
- 8:06Speaker 4: All right, as we head into the new year. Any
- 8:08Speaker 4: wants and needs, I know you guys always need the
- 8:11Speaker 4: puppy chow and the things like that. Anything in particular
- 8:14Speaker 4: that you're in need of.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Wet food for both cats and adult dogs and puppies,
- 8:19Speaker 2: and we're not picky on brands for that. And then
- 8:22Speaker 2: your typical cleaning supplies. We go through paper, towels, steel
- 8:26Speaker 2: woolf scrubbers, dishwashing liquid, and laundry detergent very quickly. So
- 8:30Speaker 2: any type of cleaning supply we will make you so.
- 8:32Speaker 4: And we want to make sure that people realize because
- 8:34Speaker 4: so many people, ang you listen to this segment every
- 8:36Speaker 4: week and they visit you guys, they folly win social
- 8:38Speaker 4: media and they want to be able to help, but
- 8:40Speaker 4: they're not always in a position to be able to adopt,
- 8:43Speaker 4: or sometimes not even in a position to be able
- 8:45Speaker 4: to foster, as you have many wonderful foster families. There
- 8:47Speaker 4: are so many ways that you can help out the
- 8:49Speaker 4: shelter that don't involve ever getting an animal. If you're
- 8:52Speaker 4: an animal lover, so many things you can.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Do to help, absolutely, And if you're not in a
- 8:57Speaker 2: position to volunteer your time, which I understand the busy,
- 9:00Speaker 2: trust me, and you aren't in a position. I know
- 9:03Speaker 2: we're coming off of Christmas, so you're not really in
- 9:05Speaker 2: a spot to donate supplies either. Just sharing the word
- 9:09Speaker 2: and telling people about you know, our needs and our pets,
- 9:12Speaker 2: and you know, choosing to adopt over purchasing from a
- 9:15Speaker 2: store or a breader. That makes also as much of
- 9:18Speaker 2: a difference as adopting a pet. Wood. So yes, the
- 9:21Speaker 2: word of mouth goes a long way.
- 9:22Speaker 7: It does.
- 9:23Speaker 4: Indeed, Angie, always a pleasure. Happy New Year. We'll talk
- 9:25Speaker 4: to you next week.
- 9:26Speaker 8: Thanks a lot, Happy MEA thank you Angie.
- 9:28Speaker 4: Gilllawana from the Canal Charleston, HU Maine Association with this
- 9:30Speaker 4: week's Adopt Me please put of the week again. Head
- 9:32Speaker 4: on over to my social media it's Dave Allan Radio
- 9:35Speaker 4: on Facebook or at Dave A seventy on x or
- 9:38Speaker 4: the WCS network Facebook page as well. Check out Henry.
- 9:42Speaker 4: Henry is about eight or nine years old, got a
- 9:44Speaker 4: little boxer in him, He's neutered, he's housebroken, he's great
- 9:48Speaker 4: with kids, great with calmer dogs, loves his toy, lives
- 9:51Speaker 4: his life for a tennis ball. But the more important
- 9:55Speaker 4: thing we want to take away from the segment this
- 9:57Speaker 4: week about Henry, guys, is that this is a dog
- 10:00Speaker 4: and and she couldn't go into a lot of details.
- 10:02Speaker 4: This was a dog that came from a horrific abuse situation.
- 10:05Speaker 4: And despite the fact that this dog has gone through
- 10:09Speaker 4: unimaginable things, the dog still, if dogs could smile, the
- 10:15Speaker 4: dog is smiling and still just wants to play and
- 10:17Speaker 4: wants to have fun. So before you go to a breeder,
- 10:20Speaker 4: don't get me started on that or anything like that.
- 10:23Speaker 4: You want a great dog eight or nine years old,
- 10:25Speaker 4: A little bit of an older dog, still loves to play,
- 10:27Speaker 4: loves his toys, loves kids, housebroken, neuter. Henry is your dog.
- 10:31Speaker 4: I'm begging you please go take a look at Henry again.
- 10:34Speaker 4: I've get his picture posted Dave Allen Radio and Facebook.

- 12:56Speaker 6: Very very good advice.
- 12:57Speaker 4: Appreciate that. Welcome into the show now, Kanawkundy School Superintendent
- 13:00Speaker 4: Paula Potter, Good morning and happy new year. Welcome to
- 13:03Speaker 4: the show.
- 13:04Speaker 9: Thank you, Happy new year.
- 13:05Speaker 4: Last time we had you on the show, we talked
- 13:07Speaker 4: about school closures due to weather. Not much to report
- 13:10Speaker 4: from that department over the last couple of days, thankfully, superintendent. Fully, so,
- 13:16Speaker 4: you know that's that's some good news. But you know,
- 13:18Speaker 4: winter's not over yet. But I don't know about you,
- 13:20Speaker 4: but I'm kind of enjoying these sixty degree temperatures. I
- 13:23Speaker 4: don't know about you, but I am.
- 13:24Speaker 9: I am enjoying them as well.
- 13:26Speaker 4: All right, I want to talk about cell phones in
- 13:28Speaker 4: the classroom. A little background here. Last year, Superintendent, the
- 13:31Speaker 4: legislature passed HB two zero zero three, which mandated that
- 13:36Speaker 4: county boards of education developed some sort of policy as
- 13:39Speaker 4: it pertains to cell phones and tablets. The policy in Kanawa,
- 13:43Speaker 4: as best I understand, the band's elementary and middle school
- 13:45Speaker 4: students from having their devices at school at all, and
- 13:49Speaker 4: high school can only have them out between between classes
- 13:52Speaker 4: and during lunch. How's it going so far? Overall? Then
- 13:56Speaker 4: we'll break it down from there.
- 13:57Speaker 9: Well, I think we've had a really positive start with
- 14:01Speaker 9: this policy. You know, during the summer, once legislative was passed,
- 14:07Speaker 9: invited students to the board office to talk to me
- 14:09Speaker 9: about their thoughts and opinions on what would work and
- 14:12Speaker 9: what might not work, you know, based on their opinions,
- 14:16Speaker 9: and of course we had some really strong opinions of
- 14:20Speaker 9: what should and shouldn't happen, you know, And anyway, I
- 14:24Speaker 9: think we came up with some common grounds with the
- 14:26Speaker 9: student input. I think the county did a really great
- 14:29Speaker 9: job communicating that with parents and with students and with
- 14:33Speaker 9: teachers about what the expectations are so that we do
- 14:36Speaker 9: follow the legislation. So it's been implemented, and of course
- 14:41Speaker 9: we've had some students violate the policy. You know, we
- 14:43Speaker 9: have students who you know, violate all types of rules.
- 14:47Speaker 9: We deal with that and move forward. We saw maybe
- 14:50Speaker 9: a steeper infractions at the beginning of the school year.
- 14:56Speaker 9: Those have steadily decreased. I think everyone has just kind
- 15:00Speaker 9: of settled into what we are considering appropriate use of
- 15:05Speaker 9: cell phones and what we're deeming its appropriate use of
- 15:09Speaker 9: cell phones, of course is not to be out during
- 15:11Speaker 9: instructional time, and so many students that I talk to
- 15:14Speaker 9: will admit that they it has helped them focus more
- 15:19Speaker 9: in class. You know, a cell phone can be a distraction.
- 15:22Speaker 9: I'm sure it is for all of us. I know,
- 15:24Speaker 9: if I'm in a meeting and my phone's beeping, it's
- 15:26Speaker 9: hard not to look at it and see.
- 15:27Speaker 4: What you know, that's what That's why when you said
- 15:30Speaker 4: in meetings, most people, you know, either don't bring them
- 15:32Speaker 4: in or what they should do is turn them upside
- 15:34Speaker 4: down with silence, so they're not they're not as apt
- 15:37Speaker 4: to want to take a look at them.
- 15:38Speaker 9: Correct, And so I do think this is a great
- 15:41Speaker 9: policy that is helping our students develop those you know,
- 15:45Speaker 9: lifelong skills, work based skills that they need. That you know,
- 15:49Speaker 9: a cell phone isn't something that you have to have
- 15:51Speaker 9: on twenty four to seven, and in some cases it's
- 15:53Speaker 9: not appropriate to have on. And I think our teachers
- 15:56Speaker 9: are very happy that that distraction has been eliminating and
- 16:01Speaker 9: you know, an unattended or maybe it was intended. We
- 16:05Speaker 9: are seeing less of the you know, online bullying during
- 16:09Speaker 9: the school day, which is always a bonus to not
- 16:12Speaker 9: have to deal with so many of those issues during
- 16:14Speaker 9: the school day. So all in all, it's been you know,
- 16:18Speaker 9: a pretty successful implementation of new rules, and we just
- 16:23Speaker 9: are going to continue to work with those students that
- 16:26Speaker 9: continue to have.
- 16:26Speaker 6: Some violation well.
- 16:28Speaker 4: And I think it's very important, as you pointed out,
- 16:30Speaker 4: and again we're talking with Paula Potter, these superintendent of
- 16:32Speaker 4: Kanawha County Schools. I think it's very important to reiterate
- 16:36Speaker 4: what you said at the beginning of the segment, is
- 16:39Speaker 4: is that you know there's going to be violations of
- 16:41Speaker 4: every rules. I was a kid once back in the
- 16:43Speaker 4: late eighteen hundreds, and I remember going to school and
- 16:46Speaker 4: you know, there's going to be violations of things like
- 16:48Speaker 4: going up the wrong stairs in my school had specific
- 16:51Speaker 4: stairs you were supposed to go up. And there's going
- 16:53Speaker 4: to be violations of little things like gum chewing. There's
- 16:55Speaker 4: going to be violations of all these things. This is
- 16:58Speaker 4: not really any different, is what you're telling me, right.
- 17:01Speaker 9: Correct, It's no different. And you know, I do want
- 17:04Speaker 9: to give a shout out to our students. I think
- 17:06Speaker 9: for the most part, our students do try to follow
- 17:08Speaker 9: the rules. You know, Like you said, there's just times
- 17:11Speaker 9: when somebody you know, for whatever reason, doesn't make the
- 17:14Speaker 9: best choice. And you know, again, we have consequences that
- 17:17Speaker 9: are in place. We are not as with all of
- 17:21Speaker 9: our rules, you know, trying to blow anything out of proportion.
- 17:24Speaker 9: I know that we have developed processes for parents if
- 17:29Speaker 9: they need to get a hold of their child during
- 17:31Speaker 9: the school day. You know, I always laughed and said,
- 17:33Speaker 9: when I was in school, we didn't even have a
- 17:35Speaker 9: cell phone, and I seem to make it okay till
- 17:38Speaker 9: the end of the day to talk to to my parent.
- 17:41Speaker 9: But you know, again, our times have changed, you know,
- 17:44Speaker 9: constant or immediate opportunities to communicate with people, and so
- 17:49Speaker 9: it's been an adjustment for everyone, and again, I think
- 17:53Speaker 9: it's been a positive adjustment and it's allowed people to
- 17:56Speaker 9: have a, you know, just a laser focus on what
- 17:58Speaker 9: we're supposed to be doing at school.
- 18:00Speaker 4: And I want to talk about the parents for a moment,
- 18:03Speaker 4: because studies have shown that prior to West Virginia ever
- 18:07Speaker 4: passing this legislation, Superintendent, that in other areas, parents were
- 18:12Speaker 4: the ones seem to have a more difficult time getting
- 18:14Speaker 4: a handle on this the kids. And I have read
- 18:17Speaker 4: article after article, I've seen TV a TV report when
- 18:20Speaker 4: they would sit down with a group of kids and
- 18:22Speaker 4: they would ask them. They would say, well, how did
- 18:23Speaker 4: you do How are you handling this? And they would say, well,
- 18:26Speaker 4: it was kind of rough at first, so on and
- 18:27Speaker 4: so forth, but gradually we got used to it. In
- 18:30Speaker 4: many cases, though, Superintendent, the parents are the ones that
- 18:33Speaker 4: have a little bit more separation anxiety than what the
- 18:36Speaker 4: kids do.
- 18:38Speaker 9: I do think that's true, and I do think, you know,
- 18:41Speaker 9: in ourday, in today's world, safety is always at the
- 18:45Speaker 9: forefront of everyone's mind, and you know, unfortunately, we've had
- 18:49Speaker 9: incidences that have happened over you know, throughout the United
- 18:53Speaker 9: States that as a parent, you know, I'm a parent too.
- 18:58Speaker 9: You know you think if maybe a worst case in it,
- 19:00Speaker 9: and you want to be able to get in touch
- 19:03Speaker 9: with your child. But we've tried to communicate to everyone
- 19:07Speaker 9: In other states where things have happened and people have
- 19:09Speaker 9: had their cell phones, the lines get blocked very quickly
- 19:14Speaker 9: when everyone's trying to make phone calls, you know, all
- 19:17Speaker 9: of those things. So again, we just want parents to
- 19:20Speaker 9: know that we will do everything that we can. If
- 19:23Speaker 9: they have something that they do need to talk to
- 19:25Speaker 9: their child about, they can call the school and get
- 19:29Speaker 9: a message to their child. And I think we do
- 19:33Speaker 9: the very best that we can to have communications with
- 19:36Speaker 9: parents and families at times when it's necessary.
- 19:40Speaker 4: Talking with the Paula Potter, the superintendent of Canaw County Schools.

- 20:02Speaker 4: schools supertendent going into twenty twenty six, give us sort
- 20:04Speaker 4: of a state of the school's address if you will.
- 20:07Speaker 4: How are things going on? What's got you excited these
- 20:09Speaker 4: days about knawh County schools.
- 20:12Speaker 9: Well, the students and our and our teachers have me
- 20:14Speaker 9: most excited about Kanaw County schools. We have great things happening,
- 20:18Speaker 9: from students winning academic awards all the way to winning
- 20:23Speaker 9: athletic contests, to just students coming to school and sharing
- 20:27Speaker 9: their great personalities with us. So that's what has us
- 20:30Speaker 9: most excited. Our first semester is quickly wrapping up and
- 20:34Speaker 9: second semester starts, so you know we're in the you know,
- 20:39Speaker 9: the midst of things, and we just want to remind
- 20:42Speaker 9: parents as we do. Our main focus is on, you know,
- 20:44Speaker 9: getting kids to school and on time. That's an important
- 20:48Speaker 9: aspect of attendance and that's a work pay based skill
- 20:52Speaker 9: that will help you all through life. And we know
- 20:54Speaker 9: they can learn the best if they are at school,
- 20:56Speaker 9: so you know, we are continuing to push that, and
- 20:59Speaker 9: then we're just making sure our students are making the
- 21:01Speaker 9: academic progress that they need to make to be successful
- 21:04Speaker 9: in their next step. Whether it's next year as a
- 21:07Speaker 9: grade level, or if they're graduating, if they're going to work,
- 21:10Speaker 9: if they're going to career technical college, or if they're
- 21:13Speaker 9: going to college. It's just very exciting to see everybody mature.
- 21:17Speaker 9: Halfway point, there's so students are so different than at
- 21:20Speaker 9: the beginning of the school year, and it's just very
- 21:24Speaker 9: positive to see the gains that students are making at
- 21:27Speaker 9: this halfway point.
- 21:28Speaker 4: Before we let you go, the legislative session gets under way,
- 21:31Speaker 4: as I mentioned the top of the show, Superintendent gets
- 21:34Speaker 4: underway Wednesday, they'll gavele in, the Governor will give his
- 21:37Speaker 4: speech Wednesday night, and then they'll get down to business
- 21:39Speaker 4: on Thursday. I'm not going to put you on the
- 21:40Speaker 4: spot anything particular, but is there anything any message that
- 21:44Speaker 4: Canaw County Schools would like to have to the legislature
- 21:47Speaker 4: going through Anything that you'd like to say, Hey, can
- 21:49Speaker 4: you take a look at this, can you focus on this,
- 21:51Speaker 4: or what are you looking forward out of the upcoming
- 21:52Speaker 4: legislative session, because I know you educators will be keeping
- 21:55Speaker 4: a close eye on the session.
- 21:57Speaker 9: Yes, you know, our focus has always been we would
- 22:01Speaker 9: just like to have a positive partnership with everyone, including
- 22:04Speaker 9: the legislators for public education. I'm not sure positivity always
- 22:10Speaker 9: is the best selling point, but I strongly believe in
- 22:14Speaker 9: what public school has to offer all students. I do
- 22:17Speaker 9: think it's a method that we can educate everyone and
- 22:22Speaker 9: help our students be have a better future than what
- 22:25Speaker 9: you and I have as adults. Our goal is always
- 22:28Speaker 9: to be to try to create a younger generation than
- 22:33Speaker 9: it's better than our generation. And I hope that everyone
- 22:36Speaker 9: that considers laws or policies or procedures has all that
- 22:40Speaker 9: in the forefront of their mind too, so that our
- 22:43Speaker 9: young people can begin to create a better community and
- 22:48Speaker 9: environment than what we have right now.
- 22:50Speaker 4: So, JABALDA. Potter super tend Kona County Schools. I appreciate
- 22:52Speaker 4: you taking time at your schedule to be here with
- 22:55Speaker 4: us today. Thanks a lot. We'll talk soon.
- 22:57Speaker 9: Thank you. Have a great day you as well.

- 23:03Speaker 4: largest injury law firm, Greg Thomas. Coming up a little
- 23:05Speaker 4: bit later on the show, I just you know again,
- 23:08Speaker 4: I've said You've heard me say this on the program
- 23:09Speaker 4: went back to the cell phones for a moment. I've
- 23:11Speaker 4: heard me say this on the program before you know,
- 23:13Speaker 4: full disclosure, old guy, fifty five years old, No kids,
- 23:17Speaker 4: been a whole long time since I was in public school.
- 23:20Speaker 4: I just, I guess I just don't understand, as doctor
- 23:24Speaker 4: Potter alluded to, there, what changed over the years in
- 23:29Speaker 4: this thing with a lot, a lot, not all, with
- 23:31Speaker 4: a lot of parents feeling the need to be in
- 23:34Speaker 4: contact with their kids all day. You know, again, you
- 23:39Speaker 4: when you make these statements say well, and I was
- 23:41Speaker 4: in school, Well, I mean it's true. I mean, you
- 23:44Speaker 4: know when as a kid of the seventies and eighties
- 23:47Speaker 4: in public school, we got on the bus seven seven fifteen.
- 23:51Speaker 4: We didn't talk to our parents all day. I mean,
- 23:53Speaker 4: and if there were, if there was a reason for
- 23:58Speaker 4: mom or dad to get they would call the office,
- 24:02Speaker 4: leave a message if they could if not, and we
- 24:04Speaker 4: respected it. We didn't get texts throughout the day saying
- 24:07Speaker 4: don't forget you have Little League practice tonight, or you've
- 24:09Speaker 4: got Scouts.
- 24:09Speaker 10: Now.
- 24:09Speaker 4: You just remembered it, you know, when you left the house,
- 24:12Speaker 4: I just said, okay, don't don't forget. You've got this
- 24:15Speaker 4: coming up at four o'clock. In, We'll be on your
- 24:17Speaker 4: backside if you forgot. I mean that, it's just that simple.
- 24:21Speaker 4: And you know, you've heard me on this show talk
- 24:24Speaker 4: about parents that take their kids to school as well,
- 24:27Speaker 4: And I'm not talking about every situation. I realized that
- 24:30Speaker 4: there are parents that it's a lot easier for them
- 24:33Speaker 4: for their work situation or whatever. But you can't tell
- 24:35Speaker 4: me that when I drive through that that drive through line.
- 24:39Speaker 4: I've started leaving my house earlier because there's an elementary
- 24:41Speaker 4: school just down from my house, and if you try
- 24:43Speaker 4: to leave at seven, you know, forget about it, it's
- 24:45Speaker 4: gonna gonna be waiting a while. So I've taken upon
- 24:48Speaker 4: myself to leave a little earlier. Now that's on me.
- 24:52Speaker 1: The parent.
- 24:53Speaker 4: The amount of parents that take their kids to school
- 24:55Speaker 4: that when there's no reason for it, I mean jobs,
- 24:59Speaker 4: I get that, okay in some cases, but in all
- 25:01Speaker 4: the cases, I mean, you know, really, we would have
- 25:05Speaker 4: been mortified, I mean absolutely mortified had we been seen
- 25:10Speaker 4: whether our parents taken us to school when I was
- 25:12Speaker 4: a kid. When I was a kid, I mean, we
- 25:14Speaker 4: didn't want our our friends to know we had parents.
- 25:17Speaker 4: I mean, you know, you go to a school event
- 25:19Speaker 4: like a dance or basketball. Now just drop me off
- 25:21Speaker 4: half mile down the road. I walk. I mean, I
- 25:25Speaker 4: just don't realize what changed over the years. I mean
- 25:28Speaker 4: not good, bad again, nonparent, non, I gotta say non
- 25:31Speaker 4: grandparent of my age, because of my age. I just
- 25:34Speaker 4: I don't understand what changed, you know, from the nineteen
- 25:37Speaker 4: seventies and eighties to now that that I just, I

- 30:17Speaker 12: I you know when you got like kids and travel
- 30:20Speaker 12: and you know, grandparents and stuff back and forth, like
- 30:24Speaker 12: the whole like two weeks was like over of the
- 30:26Speaker 12: kids being off school, and I had like one half
- 30:29Speaker 12: day off one day and one after you know what
- 30:31Speaker 12: I mean. I like looked at my schedule and I
- 30:33Speaker 12: was like, I'm not going to get any any rest.
- 30:35Speaker 4: Got to go back to work and get the kids
- 30:36Speaker 4: back at school so you can get some rest.
- 30:38Speaker 6: Get to get a little rest. I've been busy all week.
- 30:41Speaker 4: Sessions coming up next week, of course, the governor will
- 30:43Speaker 4: give the State of the State. We'll get to that
- 30:44Speaker 4: a little bit later on, but first of all, grade
- 30:46Speaker 4: the Republican Party, uh, we'll have their winter meeting tomorrow
- 30:49Speaker 4: in Charleston. I'm the well, I don't want to say
- 30:52Speaker 4: on the schedule because I don't know what the schedule is,
- 30:53Speaker 4: but there's a possibility they say that there could be
- 30:56Speaker 4: some talk about the uh, the opening the party back up.
- 31:01Speaker 4: Of course, twenty twenty four, I guess it was the
- 31:03Speaker 4: Republicans made the decision to close the primary for Independence
- 31:07Speaker 4: last night. I understand got some info before the show
- 31:10Speaker 4: that from Jackson County, the Jackson County GOP last night
- 31:16Speaker 4: voted in favor of keeping the primaries closed. That was
- 31:19Speaker 4: in Jackson County County Kanawh County has already done a
- 31:22Speaker 4: resolution for that. Spoke to some folks where I live
- 31:25Speaker 4: in Putnam County, they say that that wasn't even brought
- 31:27Speaker 4: up there as far as far as what I understand,
- 31:29Speaker 4: unless I misunderstood if it's not even been brought up there.
- 31:32Speaker 4: Joe Manchin on Wednesday issues a very long statement on
- 31:36Speaker 4: X imploring upon the Republican Party to keep their primary open.
- 31:41Speaker 4: His words, independence like me or something like that. That's
- 31:44Speaker 4: what he said.
- 31:44Speaker 6: You well, I mean dependence like Joe.
- 31:48Speaker 4: All right, all right, so what do you say.
- 31:49Speaker 6: Look, Joe Manchin's Joe Mansion's always.
- 31:53Speaker 12: Been a party of one, right, I mean, he's been
- 31:55Speaker 12: in the Joe Mansion Party forever. But Joe Manchin's a Democrat,
- 31:58Speaker 12: has always been a Democrat, or always be a Democrat.
- 32:00Speaker 12: He you know, I guess he tried to save some
- 32:03Speaker 12: face because the National Liberal the National Democrats got so
- 32:06Speaker 12: extreme there at the end, and he got all mad
- 32:10Speaker 12: at him. But I think Joe Manchin came out and
- 32:13Speaker 12: said that because to me, the Republicans keeping the primary
- 32:18Speaker 12: closed is the best possible thing you could do to
- 32:22Speaker 12: help regrow the Democratic Party in West Virginia. Right, you know, Dave,
- 32:28Speaker 12: as you know, I've been a political consultant in West
- 32:30Speaker 12: Virginia since two thousand and two. I've probably run more
- 32:33Speaker 12: Republican races than anybody else over that time. The independent
- 32:39Speaker 12: having the independents vote in our primary and then continue
- 32:42Speaker 12: to support us in the general elections has been that
- 32:46Speaker 12: is what has enabled us to get into the majority
- 32:48Speaker 12: and helped build us the supermajority.
- 32:50Speaker 6: That we now have.
- 32:52Speaker 12: And doing away with that and sort of, you know,
- 32:56Speaker 12: essentially looking at three hundred thousand people and saying, hey,
- 33:00Speaker 12: we don't really need you.
- 33:01Speaker 6: Now, which is crazy. It's absolutely crazy.
- 33:04Speaker 12: I mean, we Republicans in West Virginia only have forty
- 33:07Speaker 12: percent registration, so in elections you need fifty percent plus
- 33:14Speaker 12: one to win. You know, fifty is greater than forty.
- 33:20Speaker 12: I just don't understand. I don't understand what we're doing.
- 33:23Speaker 12: I mean, I get the whole You know, they'll go
- 33:26Speaker 12: out and some people will say, oh, well, you know,
- 33:29Speaker 12: the Democrats are going to become independence and infiltrate our party.
- 33:33Speaker 12: The Democrats are already switching to Republican to infiltrate our party.
- 33:37Speaker 12: I mean, look at the policies that are going on
- 33:39Speaker 12: in charge, we could you can't pass a tax cut
- 33:41Speaker 12: with those people that are up there right now. These
- 33:43Speaker 12: are big government Democrats that take most of their money
- 33:47Speaker 12: from other Democrats that are in our party as it is.
- 33:51Speaker 12: And so you know, to me, this idea that they're
- 33:54Speaker 12: going to infiltrate it is silly. They already have infiltrated it.
- 33:58Speaker 12: You know, a poll was taken this week with a
- 34:01Speaker 12: group that I'm associated with, and you know, we asked
- 34:05Speaker 12: just a handful of questions, but one of them was,
- 34:07Speaker 12: you know, who'd you vote for for president? Well, guess what,
- 34:09Speaker 12: over sixty percent of the Independence voted for Trump. These
- 34:12Speaker 12: aren't a bunch of liberals, I mean, these are these
- 34:14Speaker 12: are These are people that vote for Trump. And the
- 34:17Speaker 12: idea that closing the primary is going to like put
- 34:20Speaker 12: a gun to their head and force them to become
- 34:23Speaker 12: to register Republican. First off, I don't want to force
- 34:26Speaker 12: anybody to register to be Republican, right, Like, we should
- 34:29Speaker 12: be changing the perspective and educating people on why our
- 34:33Speaker 12: policies are better, not you know, carjacking them. But that's
- 34:40Speaker 12: what this is, though, right, I mean, this is oh,
- 34:42Speaker 12: we only got forty percent. We want to get to
- 34:43Speaker 12: fifty percent. But we asked a question of four hundred
- 34:47Speaker 12: and fifty eight independents and said, hey, if the Republicans
- 34:50Speaker 12: closed their primary, will you switch registration? And only twenty
- 34:53Speaker 12: percent of them said they would. And then we've to furthermore.
- 34:58Speaker 12: We said, okay, well, if the Republican primary is closed,
- 35:01Speaker 12: are you still going to vote for Republicans in the fall,
- 35:05Speaker 12: And only a third of them said they would. Were
- 35:07Speaker 12: right now two thirds of them are voting for us.
- 35:10Speaker 12: You know, you got three hundred thousand independents in the state.
- 35:13Speaker 12: I mean, you're essentially looking at a hunt. You're essentially
- 35:16Speaker 12: we know we will be getting rid of one hundred
- 35:19Speaker 12: thousand potential voters in the fall. It just doesn't make
- 35:23Speaker 12: any sense to me.
- 35:24Speaker 4: Gregor had somebody who is very involved in politics told
- 35:27Speaker 4: me that it's not really going to matter in twenty
- 35:29Speaker 4: twenty two because because the you know, the turnout's going
- 35:33Speaker 4: to be low. Yeah, President's not on the ballot, you know,
- 35:35Speaker 4: a president whomever. I mean, that's what I mean by that.
- 35:38Speaker 4: President's not on the ballot. So it's not going to
- 35:40Speaker 4: matter as much in twenty twenty two. That's what I
- 35:41Speaker 4: was told by somebody you're taking.
- 35:43Speaker 12: I agree with that, and i've been if you you know,
- 35:45Speaker 12: you and I have talked about this, probably we talked
- 35:47Speaker 12: about it two years ago when they first did it,
- 35:49Speaker 12: and I really I wasn't really on one side of
- 35:52Speaker 12: the other. I kept saying, hey, to the people that
- 35:55Speaker 12: are wanting to close it, I said, man, why don't
- 35:57Speaker 12: you guys come up with some data, come up with
- 35:58Speaker 12: some examples of other places that did this and what
- 36:02Speaker 12: were the results? And of course nobody came up with anything. Right,
- 36:05Speaker 12: this is a very emotional thing. There's a handful of
- 36:08Speaker 12: politicians right now in West Virginia and it's really it's
- 36:12Speaker 12: the Republican candidates that can't get fifty percent in the
- 36:14Speaker 12: primary and what they want to do. Rather than say, Okay,
- 36:17Speaker 12: I can't get fifty percent, how do I grow my
- 36:21Speaker 12: thirty five percent? They look at it and say, well,
- 36:23Speaker 12: how do I shrink the number of people that come
- 36:25Speaker 12: in so my thirty five percent is higher? That's what
- 36:28Speaker 12: this is about. This is that's one hundred percent what
- 36:31Speaker 12: this is about. And everybody knows it. And so if
- 36:34Speaker 12: you're on the State Executive Committee, you're either a sheep
- 36:38Speaker 12: that follow a handful of politicians, or you're somebody that's
- 36:40Speaker 12: going to actually look at data and going to actually,
- 36:42Speaker 12: you know, people that have been involved in the party
- 36:44Speaker 12: for twenty twenty five years like me, that have the
- 36:48Speaker 12: best interests of the conservative movement and the Republican Party.
- 36:51Speaker 12: And to me, it's we've got to get if we
- 36:53Speaker 12: want to attract people to the party, we'd actually need
- 36:55Speaker 12: to be conservative, and we're not doing that in Charleston.
- 36:59Speaker 12: We didn't do that last sets and there's no chance
- 37:01Speaker 12: they're going to be conservative this upcoming session.
- 37:04Speaker 4: Well, Jim, and I will say this. You know, in
- 37:07Speaker 4: talking to different people that I consider to be more
- 37:10Speaker 4: right wing, and I don't mean that in a negative way,
- 37:12Speaker 4: but I mean, for you know, they said exactly what
- 37:14Speaker 4: you said. One one person I talked to in particular,
- 37:16Speaker 4: said we got to do what we can to keep
- 37:19Speaker 4: these quote unquote rhinos out of the party and to
- 37:21Speaker 4: keep it conservative.
- 37:22Speaker 6: I agree with you.
- 37:24Speaker 4: A lot of what we've seen coming out of Charleston
- 37:26Speaker 4: the last couple of years. Greg is not conservative. And
- 37:28Speaker 4: this is where you and I may disagree on some things,
- 37:30Speaker 4: and that's okay. A lot on what's come out of
- 37:32Speaker 4: the Trump White House is not very conservative either.
- 37:35Speaker 12: I think there's certain you know, he's got that populist vent,
- 37:39Speaker 12: there's certain things that I think, you know, he built
- 37:43Speaker 12: a coalition of some people that bring different ideas to
- 37:47Speaker 12: the table for sure.
- 37:50Speaker 6: Look, bringing up.
- 37:51Speaker 12: Trump is part of this too, though, right because right
- 37:54Speaker 12: now in West Virginia, there's a whole bunch of people
- 37:56Speaker 12: that support Trump that hadn't supported Republicans before. True, and
- 38:00Speaker 12: when Trump is gone, they're not going to stay with us.
- 38:04Speaker 4: I mean, you know, you don't think that they would
- 38:08Speaker 4: stay on let's say twenty twenty eight if if.
- 38:10Speaker 6: Maybe some of them, some of them will.
- 38:14Speaker 12: I mean the problem is, look, there's a certain wing
- 38:19Speaker 12: of There was always a certain wing of the Democratic
- 38:22Speaker 12: Party that was socially conservative but still very liberal on
- 38:25Speaker 12: the economic issues, you know, not pro you know, big government,
- 38:30Speaker 12: not really pro personal responsibility. But they and the National
- 38:35Speaker 12: Democrats got so extreme on trans issues and boys and
- 38:40Speaker 12: girls sports and stuff like that, and those people left
- 38:43Speaker 12: the Democratic Party became Republicans because it was like, oh
- 38:46Speaker 12: my gosh, they're crazy on the social issues, but they
- 38:48Speaker 12: didn't assimilate on the economic issues when they got here, Right,
- 38:52Speaker 12: it was still like, so now all of a sudden,
- 38:53Speaker 12: our Republican party, there are like no Republicans that support
- 39:00Speaker 12: and surgeries for miners or boys and girls sports. I mean,
- 39:02Speaker 12: it doesn't happen. And so our legislature has addressed all
- 39:06Speaker 12: those issues, right, But so now we've addressed all those issues,
- 39:10Speaker 12: and now it's like, okay, well what's next. And all
- 39:14Speaker 12: of the ideas you hear now of those people are
- 39:16Speaker 12: big government, tax and spend sort of ideas because that's
- 39:19Speaker 12: who because they're really Democrats. You know, they're really Democrats,
- 39:22Speaker 12: and you can look at their campaign finance reports. You
- 39:23Speaker 12: know half your money's coming from Democrat trial lawyers in Charleston.
- 39:27Speaker 12: You don't get to tell me you're a conservative.
- 39:28Speaker 6: You just don't. You can. You don't get to do that.
- 39:31Speaker 6: And we're and we're going to hold.
- 39:32Speaker 12: Those people accountable during this upcoming election. But look that
- 39:36Speaker 12: you know, this Saturday, the state Executive Committee's got a
- 39:39Speaker 12: chance to do this. You know you mentioned the Kennall
- 39:41Speaker 12: County Republican Executive Committee vote to keep it closed, which
- 39:45Speaker 12: is insane.
- 39:46Speaker 6: And let me tell you why it's insane.
- 39:47Speaker 12: In Kennall County, there are forty four thousand Republicans. There
- 39:51Speaker 12: are forty thousand Democrats, and they're thirty one thousand independents.
- 39:57Speaker 12: Forty plus thirty one is seventy one.
- 40:00Speaker 6: Seventy one is greater than forty four.
- 40:02Speaker 10: Like that.
- 40:03Speaker 12: We got into the supermajority by growing a coalition based
- 40:08Speaker 12: around issues and policy and a cause, right, and now
- 40:13Speaker 12: this idea that Okay, we're just gonna keep them out.
- 40:15Speaker 12: I mean, we won't win another general election. You know,
- 40:18Speaker 12: they passed this stuff in a cycle or two. Will
- 40:20Speaker 12: never win a general election in Kanal County. We just
- 40:23Speaker 12: won't do it. And I think though some of the
- 40:25Speaker 12: people in charge of the executive committee in these in
- 40:28Speaker 12: these counties, they don't want to win. You know, these
- 40:31Speaker 12: were the people that were around twenty years ago that
- 40:34Speaker 12: didn't lift a finger to help us get the majority,
- 40:37Speaker 12: and now they're the ones all of a sudden that's
- 40:39Speaker 12: like they see new people coming into the party and
- 40:40Speaker 12: all this stuff, and they just they would rather be controlled.
- 40:43Speaker 12: They would rather control a minority position than be part
- 40:46Speaker 12: of a majority position. And that's a little bit of
- 40:49Speaker 12: what's going on with all of this. Any predictions on
- 40:52Speaker 12: what will happened a month, I don't know if anything,
- 40:53Speaker 12: I don't know, you know. I honestly, before the group
- 40:57Speaker 12: that I'm associated with took this survey this week, I
- 40:59Speaker 12: wasn't really involved in this at all. After I saw
- 41:02Speaker 12: the data and looked at this and I kind of
- 41:05Speaker 12: felt like it would be a bad idea, and I
- 41:07Speaker 12: felt like it wasn't going to matter in the short
- 41:09Speaker 12: term and it would matter in the long term. But
- 41:11Speaker 12: after seeing this information and the results of the survey,
- 41:15Speaker 12: it's kind of scary for what it's going to do
- 41:17Speaker 12: for the Republican Party in a decade.
- 41:19Speaker 4: Well, what would you say to those who would say, look,
- 41:21Speaker 4: if you are a if you're a person who identifies
- 41:24Speaker 4: as Republican, that's your current buzzword these days is identify.
- 41:27Speaker 4: If you identify as a Republican all the Republican things,
- 41:30Speaker 4: then you should register as a Republican or Democrat.
- 41:33Speaker 12: I just I think people, I think there's a lot.
- 41:36Speaker 12: I think a lot of political people assume that independents
- 41:40Speaker 12: are thinking about politics more than they are most independence
- 41:44Speaker 12: It's not that they look at it and think like, well,
- 41:46Speaker 12: I don't identify with the party. Most of it's just
- 41:49Speaker 12: I'm just not that political and I go vote when
- 41:53Speaker 12: things get really bad one way or another.
- 41:55Speaker 4: Now you hear the constant, I vote for the person,
- 41:57Speaker 4: not the party.
- 41:57Speaker 12: Yeah, and or I don't vote at all if things
- 42:00Speaker 12: are going okay, and I go vote when you know,
- 42:03Speaker 12: when my electric bills five hundred dollars a month, and
- 42:05Speaker 12: then I go vote for the person that.
- 42:06Speaker 4: Says they're going to make it three hundred dollars a month.

- 45:05Speaker 4: Greg Thomas is here. Tex says Greg is spot on.
- 45:09Speaker 4: Tex says Greg is on it. So Democrats turned Republicans
- 45:12Speaker 4: making these decisions.
- 45:15Speaker 12: That person that that text are there is on it.
- 45:19Speaker 12: It really is the case. I mean, that person's right.
- 45:21Speaker 12: I mean, that's really the case of what's going on.
- 45:24Speaker 12: It's like they we didn't realize that by having all
- 45:28Speaker 12: of these Democrats switch to Republican, Like, those Democrats didn't
- 45:33Speaker 12: switch to independent. The Democrats just switched to Republican and
- 45:36Speaker 12: then they got involved in the party over the last
- 45:39Speaker 12: five years or so. And you know, all those people
- 45:41Speaker 12: that have become active Republicans in the last five years,
- 45:44Speaker 12: they're guaranteed to have been a Democrat and they.
- 45:47Speaker 4: Do you think the Democrats didn't the more Democrats that
- 45:49Speaker 4: switched didn't switch to independent them.
- 45:52Speaker 12: I think they're just people that like to be involved
- 45:55Speaker 12: in a party and they were, you know, they were
- 45:59Speaker 12: sort of the ones that had lost power within the
- 46:02Speaker 12: Republican Party over the years. I mean, look, Joe Manchin
- 46:07Speaker 12: wants the Independence to vote in the Democrat primary because
- 46:12Speaker 12: they're a lot more conservative than the Democrats, right, like,
- 46:16Speaker 12: those are the like that.
- 46:17Speaker 6: He would view the.
- 46:18Speaker 12: Independence as West Virginia as his kind of Democrats. So
- 46:21Speaker 12: Joe Manchin wants them. He doesn't want them to keep
- 46:24Speaker 12: he doesn't want the Republicans to keep it open. He
- 46:26Speaker 12: wants them to close it that that way, it would
- 46:28Speaker 12: force those independents into the Democratic Party because right now
- 46:32Speaker 12: the Democratic Party is extremely liberal and those you know,
- 46:36Speaker 12: like I said, two thirds of the Independences voted for
- 46:38Speaker 12: Trump for president, right all right?
- 46:41Speaker 4: Tex says Conservatives being pro personal responsibility and then giving
- 46:44Speaker 4: businesses millions of millions or billions of dollars as the
- 46:47Speaker 4: most hypocritical thing.
- 46:48Speaker 5: Ever.
- 46:49Speaker 4: Businesses are people too, according to law, and should have
- 46:51Speaker 4: the same personal responsibility as expected from student loan borrower.
- 46:55Speaker 4: Business owners always rely on government handouts. Tex says, I'd
- 46:58Speaker 4: never register as a report publican or vote Republican because
- 47:01Speaker 4: the party doesn't value body autonomy and it's constantly attempting
- 47:04Speaker 4: to violate the Constitution by imposing Christianity. The Christianity using
- 47:09Speaker 4: government GOP is anti constitution.
- 47:11Speaker 12: Uh, there's actually a whole political party that believes half
- 47:17Speaker 12: of that, which is the Constitution Party. And so there
- 47:20Speaker 12: are some people out there that that you know, not
- 47:23Speaker 12: the the the abortion aspect of that, call that Texter,
- 47:26Speaker 12: but the rest of that there there is a whole group.
- 47:29Speaker 12: Actually the Constitution Party is going to be on the
- 47:31Speaker 12: ballot this time. They have you know, so now.
- 47:34Speaker 4: That's who Don Blankenship was affiliate with a.
- 47:36Speaker 6: He was there for a little bit and then uh
- 47:39Speaker 6: they heck what was that got? What was dude?
- 47:43Speaker 12: I can't think of the good that he ran for
- 47:45Speaker 12: governor and he got one percent? Marsha Wilson Marshall, will
- 47:47Speaker 12: you know Marshall, nice guy, super nice guy. He ran
- 47:51Speaker 12: got more than one percent. So now they're on the ballot.
- 47:53Speaker 12: So what what happens there is, Uh, they'll have a
- 47:57Speaker 12: convention probably like in June or something like that, and
- 48:01Speaker 12: then whoever they nominate, you know, for delegate, legislature or whatever,
- 48:05Speaker 12: we'll have it.
- 48:05Speaker 6: We'll be on the ballot.
- 48:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 48:06Speaker 12: And so that you know, the the what Mountain Party
- 48:09Speaker 12: had that for you know, they've had that forever and
- 48:11Speaker 12: so that was sort of the Mountain Party was sort
- 48:14Speaker 12: of the the group that the Democrats weren't liberal enough
- 48:18Speaker 12: for them. And then I think the Constitution Party is
- 48:20Speaker 12: going to be a group that says, hey, you guys,
- 48:21Speaker 12: aren't you know, quite as conservative enough.
- 48:23Speaker 4: Let me throw this out here real quick. We then
- 48:24Speaker 4: I got about a minute a half couple of big
- 48:26Speaker 4: announcements for the last couple of day. Donna Bowley retiring
- 48:28Speaker 4: from the State Senate served very very well and.
- 48:32Speaker 6: One time, forty years, Yeah, she was the only Republican.
- 48:34Speaker 12: Yeah, back in the back in the early nineties, it
- 48:36Speaker 12: was thirty three to one and she was the one, okay.
- 48:39Speaker 4: And that's uh. And then Wolffele, Mike Waffel, Senator Mike
- 48:42Speaker 4: wolfelll opting not to run for re election.
- 48:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:45Speaker 12: I think the you know, he kind of looked like
- 48:47Speaker 12: he was trying to get out. I think he was,
- 48:50Speaker 12: you know, trying to find somebody to sort of be
- 48:52Speaker 12: a successor down there, and and wasn't really able to
- 48:56Speaker 12: find somebody. And then then Chris Miller, of course, has
- 48:58Speaker 12: announced that he's going to run for state What do
- 49:00Speaker 12: you think about Chriss chances I Chris is a good
- 49:03Speaker 12: friend of mine. I like Chris a lot, you know,
- 49:06Speaker 12: he'll run a big campaign and he'll go do a
- 49:08Speaker 12: lot of work, you know, and then so I think
- 49:10Speaker 12: it'll I think it'll go well for him.
- 49:11Speaker 4: All right, real quick, what do you expect to hear
- 49:12Speaker 4: the governor say Wednesday night thirty seven?
- 49:14Speaker 12: Look, I think he's gonna go for a tax cut,
- 49:16Speaker 12: and I hope that he's able to make it work.
- 49:19Speaker 4: All right, Greg Thom, It's always a pleasure to have
