- 0:01[rock music] Mm-hmm.
- 0:04[rock music] [laughs] [rock music] Little premature- Hi [laughs]...
- 0:21little premature, premature start to the show there. [laughs] Ow. Welcome to the Full Spectrum Cycling Show, everybody. This is number 233, if you're keeping track. Yeah, I am. I couldn't think of anything clever, so...
- 0:37So there you go. But I thought about it. It, it says it right on the screen here, 233. Yeah, but it didn't earlier today when I had a moment to pause at work. Yeah. Well- And I got all confused.
- 0:46Thank you for the email at work today, by the way. Ah, yes. We had quite a few bikes to do this week for the, uh- Fair enough. Hey, well, uh... Didn't get to the show notes until, oh, I don't know, about an hour ago.
- 0:57[laughs] That's why they're sort of- [laughs] I forgot to bring in my wheel... that's why they're sort of thin. Huh? Damn it. I forgot to bring in my wheel for Steven to look at. Oh. The spoke. What wheel?
- 1:08My fat bike wheel with the broken- Oh... spoke. Yeah, that's been that way for a while now. Well, I haven't ridden that fat bike. It's winter bike. It's winter soon. It is, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, I know, but not yet.
- 1:18Said it's supposed to be 50 today. But I'm lazy. Mm-hmm, hmm. It's supposed to be 50 out there this, this fine Friday. And it was not that bad, just windy. Just annoyingly- Was-... persistent- Yeah... windy.
- 1:30Certainly was... that makes it feel worse than it is. Trying to remember if I rode a bike this weekend. I don't think so. [laughs] I know I didn't. [laughs] No. There's just lots of stuff going on.
- 1:41I just don't- I don't... I don't, I, I don't recall throwing a leg over a saddle at all. There's a lot going on. There's a lot that could've gone out in the world to go get, but- Like-... it just did not feel it.
- 1:50I just couldn't get out there... I created a monster. Could not get out there. Which? The, the bike or the boy? Daniel, man. [laughs] Sunday, we had a play date scheduled for him.
- 2:00He's like, "Can you take me on the bike?" I'm like, "It's really cold, dude." He's already got his jacket on. He's like, "No, it's not." And then I get on the bike with him, and he's like, "You're going too slow."
- 2:09[laughs] I'm like, "I do not need a backseat driver, young man." You know, they have these things called gags. Right. [laughs] Put it on there and- If we're getting-... cherry red nipple...
- 2:19they're right getting right into things. Sunday morning he was yelling for Mom, and I decided I'd surprise him and came upstairs finding him halfway hanging out the upstairs window yelling about a bike in the yard.
- 2:28[laughs] Okay. Needless to say, scared the living shit out of me. I had to run and grab him, pull him in, have a long talk with him. [exhales] Wow. Yeah. Yeah. The windows are getting screwed shut.
- 2:39You're supposed to have safety stuff on those windows. I guess. Now they're getting bars or something. I don't know. [laughs] Oh, man. Yeah, but that's Tony telling you a story over there. Oh, yeah. It's me. Ah.
- 2:48JK's y- your early welcomer. [laughs] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, I looked at my- Before the show starts... at my clock. It didn't look like it was the launch. I don't know. Um, well- I went off sides.
- 2:58'Tis the week for that... if things work out, I, the, Garrett does have an orchestra concert, so I was like, "Ah, let's get this thing moving here." Is it French horn?
- 3:06[laughs] Yeah, only it's called a viola where he plays it. That's not the same instrument. No, it isn't. [laughs] No. Okay. I thought he played... For some reason I thought he played French horn. [laughs] He plays viola.
- 3:16Oh, cool. Very cool. [laughs] Yeah, it's the same thing, only- Totally different... not the same. One's got strings. Right. One has, uh- One's, one's part of the strings. Yeah. So, uh, I don't know.
- 3:29He's been kinda lackadaisical about it this year. He's got a lot of stuff going on, senior year of high school and all. Right. Right. Chicks. Stuffs. Things. Dungeons and Dragons and whatnot.
- 3:39Well, there's that going on, too. So, yeah, hopefully we're not gonna make it over there. It's, it's l- it's not like one of their big ones. It's sort of the...
- 3:49There's, like, the whole, the whole thing, and then there's the partial thing. This is partial thing. Not sure what that means, though, 'cause it wasn't very descriptive on what's going on. Did you practice? Eh.
- 4:01[laughs] There was something to be said. I was in band. Me too. Yeah. When, and as long as you weren't first saxophone- Right. Didn't matter... you sat down there at, like, third and br-br-br-br-br I faked it. Yeah.
- 4:15Yeah. Yeah, the- Not feeling it, uh, br-br-br... I could do this- Yeah... without blowing one bit of air. [laughs] Did you do saxophone, too? No, I did B-flat and alto clarinets. They look like saxophones.
- 4:28They are very similar, and I can make my way through a saxophone, but I have to say, I should have always played... They're a way cooler instrument than a clarinet. Yeah. You don't play much anymore. No.
- 4:38I still have a clarinet, though. Nice. Who do you know wants to buy a vi- a violin? We got lots of violins over at the old, uh, Smith family compound. Is that right? Stradivarius, or?
- 4:48Uh, Sydney got a fairly decent one in, I think, her junior year of high school. Played senior, then she played La Crosse Symphony when she was in college, so she's pretty decent. So she got a decent one.
- 4:59It was made by a lady here in Milwaukee. Hm. Carinthia. Hm. Carinthia Violins. Uh, and by made, I mean she selects the body and- It's the real deal... and does the, the finish of it and, you know, massages it.
- 5:16So I, I- 'Cause it doesn't totally bend it from the ground up from a tree she cut down herself, but- Let's give it a- Let's get a-... let's give it a comparison. More or less than my Chinese cargo bike?
- 5:27S- uh, slightly more. Okay. Give or take, in that ballpark. Right. That's about right, though. Yeah. A handmade instrument? Shit. Yeah, somewhere in there. That she'll actually use and enjoy?
- 5:36Yeah, that's totally worth it. Yeah. I don't know. I wonder if the instrument market's the same as the bike market, where- It's all the shit show?... pe- people are just giving stuff away right now.
- 5:44[laughs] Pretty nuts. I just, I- [coughs]... came across this today. I don't... Maybe I was talking to somebody, I don't know. But Kona. You know, Kona's a pretty decent bike. Damn good bike. Buy one. Get one free?
- 5:54Get one free. Shut up. [laughs] Really? Buy, buy one, get one free on their Process bikes, which are their kind of higher end stuff. You know, the, the- That's pricey bike time, man...
- 6:03the three to eight grand model Well, you get buy one.
- 6:06And you know, I, it, from what I can tell, 'cause it's not super clear without going through the whole buying process, uh, you buy any of them and get one of equal or lesser value for free. Wow.
- 6:18So if you wanted that $8,100 bad boy and you wanted to gift your son one that wasn't maybe eight grand- Right... I don't know why wouldn't you, though, if you had- Right. [laughs] Because it's free...
- 6:28if you spent the eight, you get the $8,000 one. Um- Or buy one, hold onto it for a few months and sell it for five. Right. Uh, so, or, or a lot of the other ones which are not part of the Process line, 50% off.
- 6:42I- One bike... I sent you that insane e-bike deal that was literally from 1,500 down to 300, color LED LCD display- [laughs]... 14 amp hour, like, standard Shark battery.
- 6:58I'm like, the battery's worth [laughs] almost worth that. Yeah. L- you know, LG, U, uh, UL rated. I'm like, come on. That's a Heybike. They're not, they weren't a bad bike.
- 7:10They're- I don't know if they're still- They sell a lot of them, but for some reason they're discounted... yes, because they ordered too many of them. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
- 7:17[laughs] For the current supply, or demand I should say. I mean, on the Kona side, the Big Honzo, that's, like, a pretty popular one. Yep. 799. That's a great deal for that bike.
- 7:28I wonder how they treat their dealers, this Kona brand, and if the Kona guys had that bike on the floor for the last six months, are gonna be like- What, what they... Yeah...
- 7:36"Yeah, you probably should've sold it in the last six months or something." Right "So we're not doing anything for you." Or are they? I don't know. I will tell you who doesn't do anything for their- Is it Surly?...
- 7:45Surly dealers don't do anything for their guy that just- It would have to be Surly... that just sold his, uh, last small ice cream truck for their sale price when I paid... $12 more. [laughs] Something like that.
- 7:55[laughs] Yeah. Then I sold it for, you know. It's like- I'm, I'll store it for you for a few months, and then I'll take a loss on it. Yeah. Thanks a lot, Surly. Pretty much.
- 8:07Well, they're, I'm surprised they're still in business. Who knows, maybe they won't last. [laughs] Sorry, just a little bit ornery about that. Thank you. You guys keep doing what you do.
- 8:19I probably should pay them what I owe them too, then. Maybe. Maybe. Um- How about last weekend? What a lot of fun. What'd we do last weekend? Well, you and I went to Amorphic for their- Oh, [laughs] oh yeah...
- 8:30two-year anniversary and, uh- That's true [laughs]... and it was packed and it got- Maybe I don't remember it-... busy... because there was, I was, you were there a lot longer than you planned on being there.
- 8:39[laughs] I was there a lot longer. Well, my boss showed up. Ah, yes, that was a, a good call to hang around. There was a lot of good people in there. That was a good show. There was, yeah.
- 8:47It was a good show, a good thing. They had a show, I didn't even- Mm. A couple of them. I even missed- Yeah, some bands back there... I missed it because- I went and caught one of them then... when I noticed what the,
- 8:56I knew the, what the lineup was, but I didn't know what, like, the set times were and went like, "Oh, I should get over..."
- 9:01And, and by the time I had noticed it, one had already gone and the other one was midway through their set. Like, god. Floor show, uh, show model? Uh, floor model. Floor model? Yeah. Show model.
- 9:11[laughs] And whoever the first one was sounded intriguing. Can't remember the name of it, but... Hey, two years is a good run so far in that little- Oh, yeah...
- 9:18uh, next door to us, uh- You know, they, and they're gonna have a lot-... beer brewing joint. Yeah, they're gonna have a lot more. They make a mean beer. Yeah. They really do. I didn't have the mean beer.
- 9:26Apparently you did have the mean beer. I had a, I had a pretty mean beer. Yeah. It was a- Hazy habanero... it scares me to death... the habanero got, I'm like, "No." It started out with this very nice hint of habanero,
- 9:40and then it got hotter, and then it got hotter. And then Brian saved me and threw in a little bit of their creamsicle seltzer, which- [laughs]... really balanced it out. Kind of just cut through there a little bit.
- 9:53It did. It was, it was good. So I had one of those, and then I had a fluffy after, and then, um, because Dan was there, I had a pils, Czech pils, which was great actually.
- 10:01That's what I s- I stuck with those that whole time, their number three wimps, because I can't drink- Wimps was dark though, dude, man. Yeah, it's a Czech beer though. Oh, is it? Okay. And it's only a 5.5 so, you know.
- 10:14That's better than the shit we're drinking right now. Yeah, [laughs] let's, uh, let's, let's, let's do- [laughs] We're, we're at the top of the shit hill right now- I, I take responsibility for this shit...
- 10:23with the shit beer. [laughs] I should've bought the mixed pack of Lakefront, which had, I was not aware they're still making these, the IBA. Oh. The India black ale. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Um, they had- Mm... Fix Gear.
- 10:38I didn't know they were making Fix Gear anymore. [laughs] That's kind of a perennial favorite. Oh, yeah. Isn't it kind of a red ale? Uh, yeah. Well- Yeah... it's dark, but yeah, it's a red ale. Right.
- 10:45Um, and then two others. Summertime was one of them, and the other one was Stein, which I don't drink, but I was like- It was on sale in-... it was on sale. [laughs] Right? It was- Get that... on sale.
- 10:54It looked good, and I'm like, there was a guy in front of it, and then I walked over and saw that I wanted something lighter. I didn't realize it was gonna be this shitty light.
- 11:02Well, this, and, and- Oh, it is, it is a very inviting packaging. Yeah, and I mean- It is... it makes you feel like- I, I mean, I'm surprised-... sun and-... because normally Lagunitas isn't that crappy. This is crappy.
- 11:11This is called Daytime, a crisp session IPA. There, there's, there- There is nothing IPA about this. It's a 4% ABV, so. They're hit and miss because, like, they, like, that IPNA- That's what I was looking for.
- 11:24[laughs]... is actually pretty good. Great. But, like, that hoppy refresher, which is, like, just water, hop water- Is that... Oh, hop water? It's not good? Yeah. Uh, no. I mean, uh, no.
- 11:36[laughs] Well, this could be- I don't know. It's like, essentially think, if you really break it down, it's bong water. You're just drinking bong water. Oof. [laughs] Well, it's hop water.
- 11:44I mean, uh, hops and da, da, da- I suppose. Yeah... you know. That's fine... work with me. Come on, come on. There you go. Come on. We're going. I'm Willy Wonka-ing this.
- 11:49Next thing you know, people are gonna be smoking hops thinking they're gonna get high. Uh, yeah, exactly. What's in that thing? Yeah. Um- Hops. [laughs] Hops.
- 11:57Well, I, at, at first I thought maybe- I got a, I got a bent ploalo of, uh, s- of CBD w- hemp flower. I don't know It's like dTHC'd flower. Not supposed to get you high? I don't know.
- 12:14It's, yeah, it's just never been taken out of its packaging, but [laughs] it's like the size of a, like a small, like, body pillow. [laughs] It's the funniest shit in the world.
- 12:23I mean, it's, it's in a drawer where I got all my work shit, so I see it kinda on the regular and I'm like, "Oh, yeah. There's a-" We gotta do something with that... well, yeah. I don't know. Maybe butter.
- 12:31Make some muffins. Do, I don't know. I'm not sure if it's the- Something calming. I don't know, make t- e- but again, tea. It's, you're just, and it's hot bong water. Right. You know.
- 12:40I'm not sure if it's the placebo effect of the CBD that has no THC that's, you know, it's like, I don't know, it kinda seems to help my back a little bit or something. Well, it- Not sure...
- 12:50I mean- Without, without getting silly so you can't do anything all day Yeah... that's- That's like taking Advil or something Yeah, the thing I don't like is- You know? Like, I feel like I'm doing something, but yeah.
- 12:57The thing I don't like is when restaurants like, um, one of them downtown, oh, the Brat House offered that CBD burger which they said, you know- Huh... and it was like [sniffs] 23 bucks. Silly.
- 13:11I'm like, "No, you guys are just, just glamming on a glory train here." Yeah. I think things are getting awful expensive, and that's a way to justify it. Right. Yeah, some places like will do like the, ooh, you know,
- 13:23little shot of CBD infused oils or flavors for $4 more, something like that. And- You mean the same stuff I'm likely putting in my dog's dog food to help her hip? [blows raspberry] [laughs] Probably.
- 13:35Or, yeah, or four bucks or just save your- put the four bucks back in your pocket, go outside- Right... and smoke a little marijuana and be done with it. [laughs] [laughs] What the hell? That's illegal.
- 13:47I mean, if you're gonna do that, whatever. Whatever. No, it's g- no, it's that, that bo- body pillow innards that everyone's been smoking. This is kind of burpy beer, too.
- 13:57[laughs] It's, you know, so- I'm gonna have another one. Remember, I tell you right now, it's terrible... did I say I thought it was old, and then I looked at the date- It's new...
- 14:05and it's like- A new three months old... yeah, not even. I mean, it's not old- Oh, remember when I-... in, in, in big, big macro brew beer parlance... r- I remember when I picked up the, uh, Ale Asylum Motorhead beer,
- 14:18and I was like, "Holy shit. I got the mo-" I remember that one. I was like, "Oh, killer. I haven't seen that for a couple years [laughs]" And I didn't really put it together. [laughs] And then that's the reason why.
- 14:25[laughs] Because I haven't seen it. It's like, oh, they just moved to the ugh, ugh. And it wasn't bad, but, yeah, but it was lemony. I think we've talked about the St. James Pub up there- Mm-hmm...
- 14:36in Port Washington before, and they have- Rest in peace the Savage Mexican, Roberto Alv- Valadez. I used to work with the guy who worked up there. Oh, at St. James? Yeah.
- 14:45[laughs] But they have like 1,000 beers, and I know that they don't sell 1,000 beers a week or a month. Well, probably a month. I don't know. They sell quite a few, but some of their beers are like 10 years old.
- 14:59Might be better. Well, they're like, you know, triple- Trask. Right... triple something abbey something something something. Where are you going? Oh, it's be- it's behind you. The thing's be- Oh.
- 15:09[laughs] Go behind you, Tony. I'm, I'm gonna s- keep those cold for those that wanna drink them and have one- [laughs]... take one for the team. Oh. Which is also- Maybe, maybe they're better warm...
- 15:17sort of crappy cold too, but yeah. Yeah. They could be better warm. I failed on this one, and I apologize. Here's something for you Wu-Tang fans. Wu-Tang. By the way, we still have a Wu-Tang single 54 centimeter Wu-Tang
- 15:30State Bicycle single speed- Oh, road bike... $400 thingy. Hm. In case anybody wants one of those for their Christmas honey. They're doing a Las Vegas residency now. It's the newest- Oh. Oh...
- 15:40the newest thing is to do a residency in Las Vegas, but you can read all about it. Bring the motherfucking ruckus. Wu-Tang Clan in Las Vegas. Oh, I thought you were talking about the bike company. [laughs] No.
- 15:50That's hilarious. It's actually Wu-Tang? But they're in, they're in Phoenix, I think. State is in Phoenix area. Oh, that's cool. Uh, but yeah.
- 15:56Apparently they're doing a residency there in, uh- Most of Wu-Tang since, you know. Right. [laughs] The marketing machine that is Wu-Tang. Mm-hmm. Right on. Um, r- what else we got? Frosty Hog, that I just saw.
- 16:10That's coming up in Febu- what, when is it? February probably again. Shell Track tomorrow. January. Oh yeah, Shell Track's tomorrow. Is it on the same weekend as Frost Bike? Always.
- 16:19[laughs] It's the s- it, the- Frost Biter... the Frosty Hog is the closest thing we get locally-wise to a fat bike race. Yeah. Oh yeah. Well- I'll have the link in the show notes. It's probably January 21st or something.
- 16:30I don't remember. Yeah. That is coming up, though. 'Cause I forget it was- That could be summer the way the weather's been going lately. Could be.
- 16:37That's one of those where you stand around and get cold if you're not participating. Right. W- what I've liked about it in the- They do it f- fires, but- Yeah...
- 16:44you have to, that's where, that's where you test your, your winter gear. [laughs] What I've liked about it in the past, if they still do it the same way- I don't even know...
- 16:51is that you can basically see the whole course. Cool. So you do it as a, a relay team, and you're s- you can kind of like every six, eight, 10 minutes your, your team guy is coming through.
- 17:02You're not waiting or trying to chase them around a really long course. Oh, sure. Hm. Eh, it's kinda cool. Are you talking Shell Track, or are you talking- Well, actually both of them- Yeah, both of them...
- 17:11'cause Shell Track- 'Cause Shell Track you can-... is kind of a relay, too. That's a little longer course, though, than Frosty Hog, I think. Well- Although-... depending on the, it's supposed to be- And you can hide...
- 17:18pretty warm tomorrow, too, which is gonna make that beach really rough to ride unless you're running pretty low pressure. Eh, it'll be sand, so. Yeah, it'll be sand. Don't worry about it. But it'll be squishy sand.
- 17:27I don't think there's any ice shelf out there yet. I haven't been up Manitowoc way yet this year. Manitowoc.
- 17:34Uh, here's something we should just chat about a little bit 'cause, uh, you know, the old holiday season's coming up. Ho ho ho. Ho ho yo. Ho. Uh, gifts for cyclists. Any, you got any ideas? Tony had some good ideas.
- 17:45What, what do you got, Tony? Uh, I am, so I got, I was complaining about a set of electric gloves I purchased, uh, electric heated gloves. They were [sighs] first of all- Jesus...
- 17:57they were expensive, and second of all, they sucked. [laughs] They barely fit. Um, I rode them on about 35-degree weather, and my hands were barely warm.
- 18:07So they went back because I was mentioning them to m- a coworker, and he's like, "You gotta check out these-...
- 18:13these lithium-ion hand warmers I bought, and he threw me one, and I'm like, I press the button and immediately my hand's getting warm. I'm like, "What the hell sorcery is this?"
- 18:22Is this what starts all those fires in New York? F- who cares? I'm gonna not ch- [laughs] Yeah. I'm not an idiot. Is this like Iron Man technology?
- 18:30I'm not gonna charge it- This is the- I'm not gonna, like, plug it in overnight and let it burn down my house. I'm gonna plug it in where I can watch it. Arc reactor. Um, but they work remarkably well.
- 18:38And then I happened to start searching for gloves that have the hand warmer pouch in the top, and I found a pair, and they so far have been r- [laughs] Today was my first day riding 'em.
- 18:49My hands are really nice and warm. Well, they fit in the ball hammock. [laughs] Right? [laughs] They would probably do that, too. Oh, boy. I'm not putting that there. Oh, that would be hot.
- 18:58Especially if it burst into flames, man. Yeah, I could burn off my fingers- [laughs]... but I'm not burning off the nether regions. Uh, you would smell the hair burning first and know that it's time to run.
- 19:07[laughs] Um, but yeah, they're, they're, uh... And I guess the, if, if we're going down the rabbit hole of the electric bike I bought, I also pre-ordered the pogies they sell. They have their own pogie?
- 19:18They have their own brand of pogie, and it has pockets for warmers. This is a good plan. So I'm thinking it might make my winter...
- 19:25My only, right now, I was just talking to someone today, the only thing that still gets really super stupid cold on me are my fingers.
- 19:32Keen boots and a quality pair of Wigwam warms, uh, wool socks, my feet are fine now, until it gets really ridiculously cold. Both of those are a good presence for your cycling, uh- Those are also-... person, too...
- 19:44and this is the time of year that Keen rolls some k- pretty killer sales out, 30, 40, 50% off. You can get a pretty decent pair of boots for, still expensive, but not full price expensive. Right on. Wisconsin expensive.
- 19:57Wisconsin, [laughs] yeah. [laughs] Waiting for that coupon- Right... to come out of there. Uh, we gotta cut that out of the newspaper over there. [laughs] That's right, Margie.
- 20:06Um, I, I came up, well, I had, we, a book went out the door from the sale thing that we have on the interwebs, everydaycycles.com deal, and I have some books in the book rack that are also my books that I just have in there because they're cycling oriented.
- 20:22Yeah. This, this Greg Moody, I, he has some Milwaukee affiliation. I'm not sure what. I think he lives in Denver now, but he may have worked for the Journal Sentinel or something at some point in the past. Journal.
- 20:33And he wrote this whole series of books, uh, that are cycling oriented about a fictitious road racing team called Haven and other stuff. But- That's a pretty great helmet they should make. Yeah.
- 20:43They, he should, uh, he may have done T-shirts. That's pretty cool. Yeah. There's five of them. Uh, they start, I think, in, like, '97 or '98 and go through 2002, and I've read that- Cool...
- 20:52whole series, and I thought, you know, people haven't read that. It's been, you know, good long time, maybe go and check out the old... I think Two Wheels is the first one. That's the one you'd start with. Mm-hmm.
- 21:02A cycling murder mystery. [laughs] They're well done. They, you know, if you, if you enjoy road racing and you enjoy a, a- A good murder mystery...
- 21:11a, a murder mystery, they, it, both of those things are contained within the pages- Nice... o- of those five books. Cool. There's some doping. There's some massage ladies. There's some, I don't know, all sorts of stuff.
- 21:25Back room deals. Could, [laughs] yeah, maybe. I forgot. It's, I might have to read them again because it's been, well, 20 plus years now. But, uh, yeah. A- and they're still available on the Amazon.
- 21:38I would assume that they're probably available at some other cycling oriented website maybe. But Greg Moody, Two Wheels: A Cycling Murder Mystery. Mystery. Got a new podcast coming up. Is that so? Ooh, ooh.
- 21:54Potentially, potentially we will do the first one tonight maybe. I did, I didn't see C- uh, we didn't see Kyle at the, uh, Amorphic thing, did we? Which Kyle? CreateMoto Kyle. No.
- 22:05'Cause the new podcast will be for CreateMoto- Cool... in the, in the same building as Amorphic, which is the motorcycle side of the Two Wheel toy game playing funness to the- Engine cycle... Engine cycle, right.
- 22:18[laughs] It's my damn idea, and I can't keep it in my head.
- 22:21[laughs] Uh, we'll let you know when we get one of those going, but there's some good stuff going over there, and they wanna talk about it on the- It's got a cool space, too... airwaves. Yes.
- 22:31It's definitely worth visiting. Espe- if you are a, a engine cycle person, that is a definitely a cool place to check out. By sometime in the not too distant future, we will have a website.
- 22:42I am gonna help him out with his site since he helped me out with some motorcycle wrenching. Uh, it will be creatomotomke.com. Cool. I like it. Registered it today, so we have it, so it's ours. [laughs] Can't touch it.
- 22:57Don't touch that. Don't touch it. Got a, I g- Just look at it and, just look at- I'm looking for content now, so we got some photos and stuff, but we'll get it.
- 23:03We'll get something up there that says what's going on and where it is. It's, it's in the, the back of the building of Amorphic, the far eastern end of the building.
- 23:11So if you're an engine cycle guy or gal, and there are some flat track racing gals in there, too, you know. Yeah.
- 23:18Uh, you might wanna go check out that, uh, usually in the evenings and on Saturdays would be my guess is best time to go over there. I'm sig- segueing, but what's going on with MotoScoot?
- 23:29I haven't been there in a minute. Uh, Andy O- Yeah... well, MotoScoot owner, is, uh, pretty hooked in with Royal Enfield. Ah. So he's traveling a lot.
- 23:38I don't know what the s- the schedule is, if that's, like, a s- race season or summer season or- Is he traveling via Himalaya? I don't know if he's riding a motorbike. He may be.
- 23:49I- I think, I think they have a demo fleet, so they probably do something with a truck to get the demo fleet around.
- 23:55I will say that I saw a Himalaya up close and personal, and it's not a bad [laughs] looking little bike. Yeah. They're, you know, I think they're fun. They're kind of low powered and inexpensive. Like- And they're-...
- 24:08a motorcycle, engine cycle [laughs] should be... e- engine, engine m-... Bike, um, a coworker of mine who's really big into engine cycles says they are made to be...
- 24:20a vehicle that you are intended to maintain, so you have to do valve adjustments and you have to do things like that, like an old, old bike would be. Yeah.
- 24:29It's like, but they're bulletproof and they'll run forever if you do that. They were, you know, they're a British bike that is now made- Right, right...
- 24:34in India, and they will basically run forever with minimal maintenance, but you're gonna have to do something to them. Right. It's not high-strung like a- Yeah... race bike or anything. Right, right.
- 24:44They're pretty much thumpety, thumpety, thumpety around and, you know, you're getting from A to B. That's what, that's what you're doing on those bikes. We have- Hither, hither to yon, possibly.
- 24:54We, we haven't on this podcast talked about Lister motors, have we? We're, we're not gonna go down that rabbit hole today. Is that a car?
- 25:02No, it's a six horsepower industrial motor that the Indians have now reverse engineered and make. Oh. They basically can run a house on a six horsepower. Over there in India. Yeah. Not your Native American, Americans.
- 25:14Yeah. No, not, not talking about Natives. I'm talking about Indians from India. Right on. That's a really cool rabbit hole if you wanna go down. Look up Lister motors. Probably could do that.
- 25:23You can run saws off of them. They're, they're like a, if you're a, a homesteader, someone that's gonna live out back, you know, off grid and stuff, they are a key component to having build the things that you need.
- 25:38Awesome. Yeah. Off the grid. I don't think this is quite off the grid, but it is in Iowa, which is kinda far from here. January 27th, I believe in Iowa City, again, my research today was not very- [laughs]...
- 25:52not very in-depth, is the Iowa Bike Expo. Huh? Huh? I would, the, it, what came upon the back of trying to figure out whether trade shows were still worth going to- Hmm. Yeah, they're questionable...
- 26:05'cause there was, there was a survey in, in the Bicycle Retailer magazine and did you go last year with me to Cabot? No, no, Steven went- It was two years ago, I think... Steven went last year. You went two years ago.
- 26:15I was like, yeah, it's a pretty long drive for basically two hours of moping about in a- Right... very small- Getting schwaged... convention center, so. Sure do you miss those Interbike days.
- 26:28[laughs] Do, do-do, do, do, do, do, do. Filling time, making some humming sounds- [laughs]... on the thingy-ma-jigger while I figure out what, if anything, we have to...
- 26:38Oh, we didn't go to Madison for the Rampage, but you still got Chicago coming up. Yep. That'd be tomorrow. So, you go to Sheltrack or you go to, uh- Six-... the Chicago, uh- Six or one half dozen to the-...
- 26:50Santa Rampage potentially. Or if you're really cool, you could go do Sheltrack dressed as Santa. I know that man. [laughs] I know that guy. [laughs] Santa. Oh, boy. Oh, hell. So- Ditch, ditch... in the last week,
- 27:09I had flipped on the other radio station, not the 91.7. It was the 88.9, Radio Milwaukee. It, it was their pledge drive week, I believe. Again, yeah, they, they tossed in this, a, a third, a third pledge drive.
- 27:22Surprising. It was like, "Oh, okay." But then I had noticed on the social medias,
- 27:28like one day they had said, you know, uh, any donation, you win, uh, you know, your name will be thrown in the hat for a, a day with Dorie Zori. Hmm. Something like that. Mm-hmm. And, you know, some little things.
- 27:41And whatever. So I was like, okay, that's, it, you know, curious. Sh- sure shit, next day is, uh, same thing with Marcus Doucette. Oh. So, [laughs] I threw my- You threw some money in?
- 27:52I threw some money in, ended up winning it. [laughs] No. So, [laughs] it's... Dude, it's freaking hilarious. If you get to hang with him, bring, get him on the podcast. Say- Yes... "I wanna hang with you- It's here...
- 28:04what if you come on the podcast?" Okay. [laughs] Today's giveaway, which was won, exclusive experience with Marcus Doucette. Here's what you can win. Spend the midday shift with Marcus on 88.9.
- 28:17I choose the request show theme and then a signed Dr. Dog poster. So, you're gonna, like, request Buttholes? I don't know. That's the thing. I'm scheming already. Do you know my Dorie Zori story?
- 28:27Sometime, sometime in the new year- Dorie Zori's story... that's- Yeah, Dorie Zori story. Dorie Zori story. So, I was calling to donate to WMSE when Dorie Zori was a DJ. Right.
- 28:40And I was giving my pledge, and she said, "What are you doing?" I said, "Oddly enough, I'm ironing my tuxedo 'cause I'm getting married this weekend. I would like you to play Burnin' Beaver Blues by, oh, Evil Beaver."
- 28:58So she played it, and then, like, four years go by, maybe less, and I called up with a big donation, 'cause you know how much I loved WMSE, and I said, "I'd like to talk to Dorie."
- 29:10And, and they said, "No, Dorie's on the air right now." I said, "Tell her I'll double my donation to $500 if she takes my call." And the next thing I hear is, "Hi, this is Dorie."
- 29:20[laughs] I'm like, I'm like, "Dorie, I made a request a couple of years ago for my wife Molly, and I requested Burnin' Beaver Blues." I'm like, "If you can tell me what I was doing, I will give you $500."
- 29:32She's like, immediately she was like, "You're ironing your tuxedo for your wedding." That is... [laughs] Boom, there you go, young lady. Wow. Yeah. Well, that's a good memory.
- 29:40Also, a very unique thing that maybe- I think that's what might've helped... probably wouldn't forget it... both the weird song that they probably never played again on WMSE. Do you know her favorite band of all time?
- 29:49I don't. You know the generation she's from. Yeah. You know she's a lady. Mm, I, I may not like this. You know she would probably go to Rio if she could. Oh, the vitamin D? No, Duran Duran. [laughs] Oh, Jesus.
- 30:06Dorie's a Duran Duran person? You know who's way more of a Duran Dur- Duran person than I ever thought would be? EVM. Yeah. Yeah. And I'm sorry, that new cover album is totally hit or miss.
- 30:17Some of them are really great and some of them are just downright terrible. I've caught, yeah- I've caught one where I was like, "What?" I did not follow what the hell was going on.
- 30:26Molly sent me a message saying, "Oh my God, this is a Duran Duran cover." [laughs] I'm like, "That's terrible." Yeah, Wendy was a Duran Duran fan.
- 30:34I'm- I may even have still some Duran Duran books available if you want to learn more about Duran Duran. Oh my God. That was a hit. I, I was just before Duran Duran, thank God. I, I do respect them now.
- 30:45I do think some of their songs are very good. The, the, the, the Reflex. But when I was a teenage... Right, that's terrible. [laughs] But, um, actually for me it's Chauffeur. It's one of the greatest...
- 30:55It's a great song. But I was just before that, and I remember girls coming over to my house and saying- Um, Phil? "Pink Floyd, Pink Floyd sucks. Would you play Duran Duran?" I'm like...
- 31:05Actually, that might've been Def Leppard. Either one was terrible for me. [laughs] But yeah. Well, I worked at Art's Cameras back in those days. Oh. And there was a local band called, I think they were called YRU.
- 31:17And two of the guy- one of the guys I worked with, um, and he later became a Bucketty Mucket Summerfest, but they kind of had that Simon Le Bon/whatever guy, other name person thing, was in that band with the hair.
- 31:32John Taylor, Andy Taylor, Roger Taylor. Yeah, whatever Taylor. The Taylor brothers. [laughs] Well, actually, one of the guys' names was John. I'm trying to put, put like- Nick Rhodes. There it is. My dang old- Got it.
- 31:45Self-Googled... brain area is again not thinking well. But anyway, yeah, there was- Don't worry... there was a, there was a local- There'll be a new Moon on Monday... Duran Duran sort of band. Good God, you're terrible.
- 31:54You are throwing out every one of their damn terrible songs. [laughs] We could put it on the old, uh, play box over there when we're done. The new Moon on Monday. Speaking of- No, we could, but let's not, please.
- 32:04Speaking of being done, I don't, uh- Are we done? JK, did you have any, uh, gift ideas for anybody? We're done. Wild Boys. Wild Boys. [laughs] Well played, man.
- 32:16And there you have it, folks, another half hour of your time spent listening to the dulcet tones of JK Livin. We'll be seeing you later. All right, everybody, uh, we'll do this again next week, hopefully.
- 32:33Keep it real sexy, everybody.
- 32:35[upbeat music]
