- 0:08Hey there. This is Paula, and this is
- 0:10another mental health moment from the Life Live Better
- 0:12podcast, the place we take just a couple of moments to care for
- 0:16our minds. And today we're talking about
- 0:19that powerful connection between what we eat and how we feel.
- 0:25Now, I'm no nutritionist, but we've all heard that saying you
- 0:28are what you eat. Well, when it comes to mental
- 0:31health, that phrase holds more truth than I think.
- 0:34We often realize our brains and bodies are deeply connected and
- 0:40nutrition plays a key role in how our minds function, how we
- 0:45manage stress, and even how we experience our emotions.
- 0:49Can you believe that? Think about this.
- 0:53Our brains use nutrients from the food that we eat to produce
- 0:57chemicals like serotonin and dopamine, and these are the same
- 1:01neurotransmitters that regulate our mood, our motivation, and
- 1:05even our calm. When we nourish our bodies with
- 1:09food that are rich in vitamins and minerals and healthy fats,
- 1:14we're actually giving our brains the fuel they need to work our
- 1:18the best Foods like leafy greens and berries and salmons and nuts
- 1:23and whole grains, they really do help support our brain health
- 1:27and our emotional balance. And on the other hand, a diet
- 1:31that's high in processed foods and added sugars and caffeine
- 1:35will increase our anxiety, our irritability and our fatigue.
- 1:40And it's not about strict diets or cutting everything out.
- 1:44It's more about adding more of what helps us feel our best.
- 1:49So here's something that you can try this week.
- 1:52When you sit down for a meal, just ask yourself, will this
- 1:55food help me feel balanced and energized?
- 1:58Small changes like swapping soda for water or adding just an
- 2:02extra serving of vegetables can make a noticeable difference
- 2:06over time. And remember that mental health
- 2:09isn't just about what we eat, of course, but how we treat
- 2:12ourselves. So be patient with your body and
- 2:16your mind as you build healthier habits.
- 2:20Progress is what matters, remember, not perfection.
- 2:24The Life Live Better podcast thanks you for joining us for
- 2:27this mental health moment. And until next time, take care
- 2:30of your mind because it's the only one you've got.
- 2:32And don't forget that knowledge leads to a life lived better.
