Transcript
- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: All right, welcome to show others receiving votes for it's illustrated.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Pat Forty joined as always by my sidekick, Jean Wochowski going to preview a very big week.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_01]: of football games and get to a number of other topics here at the midpoint of the season.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_01]: But Gino, I just wanted to let you and the viewers and listeners know we're taping this Thursday morning and as of the time of this taping, the following things have not occurred.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: The playoff has not officially expanded to 24 teams.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: but keep an eye on that, as Sanky alluded to sooner than later, a resolution there, and I could be very sooner.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: LSU has not been expelled from the SEC.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: Keep an eye on that.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they're getting expelled, but the what was he kiffin missile crisis is now the the Will Wade World War III over his roster,
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: and the state of Ohio is not seceded from the SEC to form its own college sports governing body so they can play whoever the heck they want.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: Keep an eye on that one though.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: And don't give Jeff Landry any ideas down in Louisiana, because he'd like to probably do this too.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: But don't take any of that out of play.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see what happens next.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: Stay tuned.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: Gina, are you ready for all these developments?
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think we've kind of prepared ourselves for the 2014 playoff.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: That seems like a bit of complete, but you were down in Alabama for the, well, for the Bama Georgia game and then you stuck around for the SEC media days.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: To me, this seems this whole SEC LSU thing almost seems more centered on the basketball.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_00]: program than it does the football side of things.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: Am I reading that wrong?
- 2:08[SPEAKER_01]: No, you're reading that right.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: The football thing I was basically put to bed when LSU Blinkton did not roster the NFL players.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: But one of the reasons that lawsuit that was filed by the SEC and federal court against LSU remains intact is because the basketball situation.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: which had kind of been simmering all along in the background, and unless you blinked on one player for sure, RJ Lewis, who had gone through the drafts side to NBA contracts, and they're not going to play him, will wait acknowledged it much in a very
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: He was, he was not real happy with me.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: That's fine.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: No problem.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: But there were other players there, other players that are still in flux there.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: And that's who I was asking him about.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: And, in fact, is they played an exhibition game Wednesday night against Central Florida, suited up free.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: former pros or aspiring pros who would not seemingly be eligible, but didn't play them.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: So is that a blank again?
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: Wade wouldn't discuss it after the game.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: This is part of the reason people keep asking because he's treated his roster as a covert operation, but
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: The fact they didn't play, it may not be definitive, but it was interesting last night.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see as this thing progresses.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: But that's the crux of the issue now.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: LSU basketball versus the SEC.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: So let's take the legal part out of it.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, to me, the SEC is using the legal option as a way to remind LSU we still hold a very big stick if we want to use it.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: But if you take that out of the equation what was the I'm trying to remember the vote that was taken by the president's back in the day as far as this issue was concerned wasn't it if it wasn't unanimous what was it did LSU abstain was at the vote I believe it's 15 zero with one abstention from baton okay so to me either you want to adhere
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: to the rules of the conference that you're in, and clearly all the other presidents have spoken to how they feel about this, or you don't.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: And if you don't,
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: then why are you in the conference?
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: Go someplace else.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: To me, it's not a matter of them getting expelled.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: It's a matter LSU, do you even want to be in this conference?
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: Because if you're not willing to go with what everyone else wants to do, the rules they want to adhere to, then why are you here?
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: And it seems as a lane kiff and to some extent, but will way definitely
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: is pushing this envelope to the farthest reaches and just seeing what they can sort of get away with.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think that's a very good read of it.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: They want membership in the club without paying all the dues.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there are some golf clubs, country clubs around the country where if you stop paying your dues, they'll actually put a shame list out with your name on it that you have not been keeping up your membership payments.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's LSU right now.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: And the shame list is in federal court, basically.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_01]: They have chosen
- 5:44[SPEAKER_01]: this approach.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: First of all, hiring will wait.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't popular to begin with rehiring him because he wasn't popular in the first place when he was in the league because he was cheating.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: Rules have changed, they bring him back, but still nobody's that happy to see him and then they constructed a roster that was
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: 80% hoping that they're going to get around these NCAA, what was the ACWL eligibility rules?
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: And then the SEC rules.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: The SEC fight made their own policy.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: That's where the crux of the matter is now in late August.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: The ACWL, the SEC policy that says, if you went through the NFL draft or the NBA draft or the WNBA draft, it did not withdraw,
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: you are subject to ineligibility and we have discretion to penalize you.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: The commissioner has discretion to penalize you.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: What exactly those penalties would be?
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, but they could be significant.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: And so that's where LSU has walked up to the line and a stand on there ready to stick a toe over, but hasn't quite done it yet with these players.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: They may do it.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: The NCAA may even clear these guys.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: But the question is, is the SEC going to say, now that violates our policy?
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the tension that still remains there.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's fascinating and interesting way to run a league.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: As you said, why are they still there?
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: Well, because it's the richest conference they could conceivably join.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I would say they're at, in terms of value to the SEC, they're in the top third.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: Um, certainly in the top half, probably in the top third, five or six, uh, I would say so the SEC really probably doesn't want to lose them either, but boy, is it, uh, if they succeeded in aggravating the SEC?
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, we haven't really discussed this, I haven't really thought about it through, but it felt as you left.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: I guarantee you there'd be, I don't know, how many schools do we think would be standing
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: So we might be missing a big 10, all of them.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: So LSU would be missed, but yeah, I think the SEC would survive.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, for sure, note out about it.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll see, LSU would probably end up liking the big 12 and not making nearly as much money as they are now.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_01]: So be careful, LSU.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about what we do know.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: what has happened.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: That's the first half of the cards football season.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: Frankly, I was feeling like it was a little bit flat until last weekend, and then we had great stuff all over the map.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_01]: Awesome, just great games, drama theater, upsets.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_01]: galore.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but so let's go through that let's recap the first half of the season, give out some some others receiving votes awards.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure a producer, Gito can can drum up like a a t-shirt or a hat or something to send to some of our award winners here, a cozy, or maybe
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but let's let's make go ahead and make some declarative judgments, Jane, who is your coach of the first half of the season?
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I wrote down sort of my nominees, Jake Decker, Lake Forest, Eric Morris, Oklahoma State, Bob Chesney, UCLA.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: This one's going to surprise you a little bit.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe Luke fickle Wisconsin, Marcus Shepherd, Washington State.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry, Oregon's team, my apologies, I put Kirby smart in there because I think so many times we overlook a coach at a program that's been successful because we just think well there.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: They're great.
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't really have anything to do with Kirby Smart, but it does.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think Kirby Smart's a delicious coach and doesn't get the accolades that he should.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: And then for pure entertainment value, I put Kiffin and Dion Sanders.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: But for bang for your buck, it's Dickert Morris or Shepard.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: I almost pick Kirby.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't because I just don't think you could ignore what Stein and Chesney are doing, and ultimately, I went with Chesney with the tiebreaker being UCLA being undefeated as opposed to Kentucky with the one loss.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: I cannot argue with that at all.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: I've manufactured Bob Chesney would be my first choice as well, you know, you.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: He really has, like, almost to an alarming degree, taken the signetty template and just repeated it, where you go from James Madison to a downtrodden big 10 school and win immediately.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, sustainability will see, but it's very, very similar.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: He did.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: He inherited a quarterback instead of bringing in not psych quarterback, but otherwise there's a lot of JMU guys,
- 10:59[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and the way they're doing it, his super impressive to me, UCLA, what is the one thing we've said about their football program for, since Terry Donney Hugh left, they're not very tough.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: This is a tough team.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_01]: Run the ball.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, hanging there when you lose a quarterback, play a guy from Cal Poly, winning and Watson.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: So all credit to him, I will just for diversity sake.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'll say will Stein because, uh, I'm dazzled by what he's done at Kentucky.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_01]: The last first year's most to start like this at Kentucky, bear Bryant 80 years ago.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: Is that right?
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: So I think he's doing pretty well.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: And the way he's done winning the last two games, both 35, 34 and over time, going for two, it's like he understands over time better than anybody else.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: When to go for two, make it work and you're five and one.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: Dad's like he loves 35, the 34 scores.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: He does, he does, it's working for him.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: So all right, your team of the half season,
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: Well, the easy choice would be to say UCLA or Kentucky, but I'm not because I've got to find some spot to Pat Georgia on the back, and this is it for me.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: They're coming off of a fantastic win over Bama, At Bama, look, we can,
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we can discuss the what ifs of the non-pass interference call, but it was a tremendous game.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: You were there in person.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: But I want to reward a team that it is not necessarily underdog story.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's just it's a great team and it's put together well and it has a quarter back who who is fearless and and understands how to handle a moment the matters and their their defenses like a bunch of mutants running around and so I want to reward a team.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: That that has done what we thought it might be able to do and so to me that team is Georgia.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's my pick too and partially I made me somewhat prisoner of the moment, but for having been there, but that was a very high level game against Alabama.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, so in, you know, a classic Alabama environment where, you know, that is his big time as intense as it gets and they handled it and yes to follow up on your point.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: Georgia, Georgia's payroll didn't want a lot of other schools pay roll is it is less and they get guys to stay and wait their turn to play because there's 15 guys on that defense that are monsters.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_01]: They're not all getting on the field but eventually they will and then you're going to make plays and they just they have different level.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: football players athletes, they play with an intensity that's different, a violence that's different, they bring your third string running back in, peanut Phillips rushes for 120 yards, gonna stocked in very much overlooked, probably by people like me, included, uh, played great.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: You know, stuck around.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, exactly.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: They're just a complete team that has a little bit of throw back to them about the way they are put together.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_00]: So I think they have a lot of throw back.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's great point by you.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_00]: They are in this world.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: They qualify as old school.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: They totally do.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: All right, who's your flop of the half season.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: So many candidates, so it's a little podcast time for this category.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: Florida state and Clemson obviously are in that list.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_00]: Penn State and Michigan are combined.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: Owen five in the big ten, six and five overall.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: Did we think that was going to happen?
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: Washington Maryland certainly are on that list.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: LSU, Texas A&M, huge spending team, South Carolina.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: Those three teams are combined three and eight in the SEC standings, but for pure implosion,
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: entertainment.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think it has to be Texas A&M.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you have a third-year head coach, Mike Alco, who is under fire.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: You had what we thought was an experienced, really talented dynamic quarterback.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: We had a team that was ranked a team with great expectations and none of us happened this it's just been it's been painful to watch so if I'm if I'm looking at expectations and what I thought might happen versus what has happened to me is an M.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_01]: That's my team too.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: They're three and three.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: They were ranked.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think eighth coming into the season.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: They're now three and three.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: They've been absolutely pummeled on the road twice.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_01]: They have not scored a touchdown in a road game.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: They lost 35 to six to LSU.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_01]: They lost 27 to six to Missouri.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_01]: And then Michael Cole.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I, he's not in trouble.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that, but, but to to go on and trash the the number one fan website that follows the team with a huge readership slash fan following seemed like a an unforced error.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: If you will like those are your people man those those are the people that want you to succeed more than anyone may make a mad when you lose, but but they're behind you so I would perhaps not just like choose to call them a cesspool so we didn't mention the money that a nm is spending oh massive so massive third you know amongst the top five or six probably spenders in in the in the country.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: Not good, not good Aggies.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_01]: You're player of the half season.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_01]: You're midseason, highsman, if you will.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, look, I'll list a couple of other guys, but I think we both, you know, it must make her at Oklahoma State, Mensa at Miami, CJ, Card, Notre Dame, who was, I think he was both of our choices.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: Christian, wasn't he?
- 17:16[SPEAKER_01]: It was.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: I threw in Tennessee's Xavier Gilliam.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: I've heard people that I respect.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: really no ball, really study who think he might be the best defensive player out there right now and and uh and uh Trinidad Jamless at Ole Miss, but you know, how can you not take Jeremiah Smith right now?
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you have to.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, frankly, he's just so, so obviously better than everybody he's playing against.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you saw that the great quote from Ryan Day, I might even set it last week.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_01]: I forgive me if I'm repeating myself, but if he's single covered, he's open.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: If he's double covered, he's kind of open.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_01]: If he's triple covered, throw to somebody else.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: There's a great quote.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, pretty good philosophy there.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: Just a supreme talent.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I think he hadn't shoulders the best right now.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_01]: We'll say, from a highsman standpoint, and the way this thing works,
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: Mensa versus car November 7th, Michigan Miami against Notre Dame.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: If they're both undefeated, the winner is going to come out of that with a lot of juice.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: There's like, if they play well, if it's not 97, but if one of those quarterbacks really performs well and their team is still undefeated coming out of that, I think then Jeremiah Smith gets some competition.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: I asked Smith about, I talked to him, I sat down with him in July, June, maybe even, and he went through his goals for the year or whatever, and he didn't mention the high school, and so what about the high school?
- 18:53[SPEAKER_01]: And he goes, that's a quarterback award, your biased.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_01]: So I think he's, he, and he, I'm not saying he's wrong, but I think that was, that's his outlook on that.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_01]: But he did say, he did say recently, I'm the best player in the country.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_01]: All right, most memorable moment of the half season for you.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: And there's been some, you know, I kind of disagree with you.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: And it's been kind of a bloody first half.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: I actually think there's, there's been some, some incredible moments.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: But I will go with September 5th, a football date that will live in Western Michigan history in front of me.
- 19:45[SPEAKER_00]: infamy yes so yeah that that game that moment the the mystery one second that was the clock that that we didn't know existed in the extra second Michigan takes advantage I mean Michigan took advantage of it
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: completed the Hell Mary and beat Western Michigan and inexplicably Michigan fans stormed the field.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, that was the moment to me.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: As it turns out, you know, remember we thought, well, the CFP committee, if they're looking to Michigan later, well, that's not going to be an issue.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_00]: But still, it was an incredible moment.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_00]: And partly it was incredible moment.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_00]: I thought because of the way that Western Michigan handle the entire situation and the aftermath of it.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: It did.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to counterpoint you in a minute on that.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: But my most memorable moment was just the scene in Oxford, September 19th, really, September 18th and 19th, I was down there for LSU, Mississippi, and that's the differentiation between the NFL and college football was that scene, the amount of emotion, the amount of people that just showed up in that college town without tickets to be there.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_01]: and then the incredible emotional intensity before the game during the game.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_01]: And then the cathartic release afterwards when Mississippi won.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: That whole thing, that was for me.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: And that part of that is okay, you maybe you had to be there, but that college football, that is where the passion that just can't be replicated, even great fan bases in the NFL, they don't have moments like that.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_01]: So we may be losing some of those moments by the way, as we had toward a 2014 playoff, but that's good.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: I can't believe it.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: Why not?
- 21:42[SPEAKER_01]: Why not that, too?
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: All right, most forgettable moment of the half season.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think it has to be that Clemson LSU game.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know, we thought, I mean, we hoped that it would be.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: Memorable and it was entirely forgettable almost as forgettable as my weekly locks of the week picks
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: And then I would also throw in the incident at during the Tennessee Texas game.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_00]: That is a moment with the cons Simmons that I would like to forget.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would bet Colin Simmons would like to forget that now, too.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: So here's my counterpoint to you.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think the most forgettable moments, the bail Mary in the Big House.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_01]: We remember the play, but what did it mean?
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: As you, you kind of alluded to didn't mean anything.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: At the time, we're like, oh my gosh, this could, this could have ramifications, long lasting effects on the play.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_01]: I'm now Michigan's not good enough Western Michigan's probably not going to be in the picture.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_01]: So it was incredible sound inferior and an unbelievable play to Michigan's credit, the 47 yard bomb.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: and just a firestorm of controversy.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_01]: But then it was over and then the game doesn't really affect the rest of the season.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: So that's my point there.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: Game of the half season.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'm gonna go back to what you, you know, I don't have to add much to it, but the Ole Miss game, LSU.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: You said, you know, maybe you had to be there.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: No, I mean, you were there.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_00]: I was watching it on TV and I could feel it just watching it on TV.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_00]: You could feel the
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: attention, the excitement, the drama, the football hatred that was being spewed toward Kiffin.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, all of it, the backstory, it was, it was the very best of college football in a way.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_00]: And, and I loved it.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought that I'm not even sure there's a second place after
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'll give you a second place, at least.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe maybe first, arguably first, Texas 24, Ohio State, 23.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: Great game.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: Dramatic, Texas down 20, or down 7th, or any other, or down 20, came back, scored three touchdowns to win the game.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_00]: I understand, but come on, come on.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, okay, but it was second.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't, it wasn't better than, then,
- 24:35[SPEAKER_00]: that I'm not sure I can articulate what what that LSU Ole Missing felt like, you know, I mean, Texas, Ohio State early early in the season.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that's what I have the same power.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'm diversifying my list here, man.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_00]: I've already talked about doing it once in a while, Tantja.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, archmaning that might have been the high point of his college career to that point right there.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: Is that come back.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see where it goes from here.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_01]: Give it up on anybody.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: God awful failed prediction of the half season.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'm pretty sure I know what you're going to go with there.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'm I'm going to wear this.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh
- 25:51[SPEAKER_00]: So I deserve all the mocking you want to give me in my defense, we had another category in our in our season prediction show and it was something like what, what are you going to be apologizing for by the end of the season and I said I think I'll be apologizing to Miami for the Clemson pic so I did try to hedge my bed a little bit.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, the Clemson thing did not work out.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_00]: What I can try to remember what maybe you probably didn't have anything wrong.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: My picks have been so good.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, what I even, how do you even find something that went wrong?
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: No, I will say though, I also pre-mocked you on Clemson.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't wait till now.
- 26:32[SPEAKER_01]: I pre-mocked you at the time.
- 26:34[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, no way.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: So, okay.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_01]: But my, my sleeper pick in the ACC was California.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: That hasn't worked out terribly well.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_01]: The new staff is not meshed with John Keillway.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_01]: Second of all, tell him the quarterback.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: He's also been injured.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_01]: The team's been disappointing.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: They did pull out.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_01]: a close victory at home against Virginia Tech, but they've lost UNLV, they lost Clemson by two touchdowns at home.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_01]: They got thumped in the opener by UCLA, so there hasn't been much there there yet.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: So I will acknowledge that was a bad big.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_00]: That's a pathetic effort.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I
- 27:22[SPEAKER_00]: how that nothing's going to match the Clemson thing.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, the Clemson was an absolute like a flaming dive bomb.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that was impressive.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm playing with you.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_00]: You got to take some flyers and these things, man.
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: Of course.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I didn't do it just to do it.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_00]: Every year there's a team that we just don't see
- 27:47[SPEAKER_00]: Coming and you know, I thought it might be Clemson now it might be UCLA or Kentucky will see how it all shakes out, but that is the eternal truth of college football.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_00]: There's always somebody that comes out of nowhere.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely, risers and followers that you you can't really see on paper in August and then all of a sudden it started happening like, oh, all right.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_01]: Over the action of the half season.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_00]: Oh gosh.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_00]: uh... i'm not gonna blame us for this one because i don't think we fell for it but after florida started for no i kind of fell for it how did you okay you know there there the greatest team of all time uh... let's start building the statue johnson role it it it hasn't happened in and if we really think about it it probably wasn't but they did play really well they they looked like there's something there i think that was over reaction and then i
- 28:46[SPEAKER_00]: And I'd like to think I didn't fall for this either, but look at Penn State schedule.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_00]: They don't play, they don't play Indiana, Ohio State, Oregon, or Iowa.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_00]: They could make the play off, no, no.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_00]: So I think those were the two.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_00]: And the Lincoln Riley thing, let's buy them.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_00]: And that was an overreaction.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, for sure.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_01]: I ended up writing a, like 2400 words on John Sumrong.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_01]: Fortunately, we chose to run that before the Missouri gang.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_00]: Ran it early, smart day before.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_01]: Still, it's an already story.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I think he's gonna be fine there.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, there might have been a little over enthusiasm there.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_01]: Jaden Baha, he's my candidate.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: And no, we didn't, yeah, like they're there sitting there forward to now, which is probably about where they should be, right, you know, beating Mississippi might have been one better than you would thought they would do and then losing to South Carolina and home badly, one worse.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't think it's like a disaster or disappointment, but the the early optimism has has been replaced by reality.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: I won more for you with your surprise of the half season.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you're going to say UCLA or Kentucky or that would be the, no, that would be the easy pick.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_00]: I am accustomed to Penn State and Michigan followers, you know, shrieking into the night whenever there's any sort of problems at their at their program, but I am not only surprised, I'm amazed.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_00]: that were really having these discussions about, you know, Matt Campbell's in trouble.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle Littingham is a horrible fit.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_00]: He might not last a year.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, please, just stop.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, just, can they coach a season first, especially Matt Campbell.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, anybody who thought Penn State was was going to be a legitimate playoff contender, they fell for the schedule, uh, a game again.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_00]: This was it, this is a program that needs to be fixed and Matt Campbell's a fixer and he'll he'll be just fine.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_00]: The leading ham hysterics.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's premature too, so that's the surprise to me that there are people who actually think that that's a possibility.
- 31:33[SPEAKER_01]: Well, similar theme I guess for me, but I'm taking the the which coaches are failing on nobody's been fired is my point that's surprised me that is unusual at this point we're sitting here October 15th and we've had a couple coordinators get whack but we have not.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: had a head coach be terminated yet, which is runs counter to recent years, like last year at this point, I think we had like five or maybe within this next week.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that goes to the new economic reality of the sport, which is we can't just necessarily burn a gazillion dollars on a bat when we got to pay the players this much money.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_01]: And I think there's also some some choices
- 32:23[SPEAKER_01]: All right, we're going to spend 20 million or 50 million to buy out this coach, we got to spend that much or what have we got spend a day in the in order to amount to bring in the next group.
- 32:35[SPEAKER_01]: would we be better off spending the money?
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: Not just on players, but the whole sports staff.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_01]: General manager's personnel, all that sort of thing.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: That's what Wisconsin chose.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_01]: Wisconsin chose that and right now it's paying off.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see it in the next three weeks for them.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_01]: But I think so there's just kind of, I think a different calculus being done, different math on whether it's worth it to fire your coach mid-season.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's why I need to one of us
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, Mike Norvelle, I mean, I don't think it's a surprise that he's still coaching at Florida State for all the reasons that you just mentioned because you're not just firing him, you're firing firing a staff and in FSU's case, they have some financial distress and so these are to your point, these are the realities of the coaches contracts these days and schools having to really.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to say be financially responsible because I don't think they're not doing that.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: But they are having to really look at those numbers and say, I may we can look them for the rest of the season.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_00]: We'll say, yeah, yeah, I'm with you.
- 33:51[SPEAKER_01]: All right, next category here, we've got some believe it or don't believe it, that this is, you're gonna ask me these questions, right, Gina?
- 34:01[SPEAKER_00]: I am, and then I'll just chime in with a quick observation afterward, believe or not believe Purdue is respectable.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I believe it, I, I very much believe it.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'm really impressed.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_01]: Barry, Autumn is a good coach.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_01]: Took a year of getting his teeth kicked in, but that was because that program was decimated.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: They were down, down, down.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_01]: One, two, straight, big, 10 games dominated Minnesota and Minnesota had been hot.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_01]: And if you look, the rest of the schedule now, we weren't sure at the time, but Wake Forest, they're over time against Wake Forest, Wake Forest is a ranked team.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_01]: They go at UCLA and lose a shootout, 52, 38.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_01]: UCLA's a top 15 team.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_01]: They got crushed by Notre Dame, but it might just be the Notre Dame's that good.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm super impressed by what Barry Adams done.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: They have found an offense, which had been a chronic problem.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_01]: The defense is way better as well.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I'll try not to play the schedule game, but there are more wins to come for the Boyle
- 35:05[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, they're not an easy out anymore, right?
- 35:08[SPEAKER_00]: So that's always the first step.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_00]: And then I love this number.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_00]: They have two more victories in the combined, two more big 10 victories, then the combined total is a Penn State, Michigan, Washington Rutgers, Maryland, and Michigan State.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so, so good for them.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_00]: All right, yeah, believe or not believe Oregon is toast.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_01]: Not yet.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_01]: I don't believe that yet.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they're in bad shape, especially the longer the Dante Moore is out.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_01]: The greater the concern is there.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_00]: And he's out this week.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_01]: He's out this week against Nebraska, who's.
- 35:50[SPEAKER_01]: shown some certain respectability there.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_01]: And so what are you doing?
- 35:54[SPEAKER_01]: That Dillon Raleh was so bad they benched him.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_01]: Do you bring him back?
- 36:00[SPEAKER_01]: Or you go with Brock Thomas the former walk on who was okay in emergency emergency relief in the loss to UCLA.
- 36:09[SPEAKER_01]: There's too much talent there to give up on them completely.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_01]: Their losses are both to rank teams.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_01]: They have victories over rank teams,
- 36:20[SPEAKER_01]: The Oklahoma State Loss is obviously non-comference, which could potentially help them if they turn this thing around here.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_01]: So I am not giving up on Oregon yet.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_01]: I'm profoundly disappointed in the way they've played, but I'm not giving up on them.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_00]: Well, two things.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: So let's say, so they still have the game.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: That game's Adel High Estate, right?
- 36:41[SPEAKER_00]: November 7th.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: Let's assume just for discussion's sake, they lose that game.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: Are they the litmus test for a three loss team?
- 36:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, in the playoff scenario.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, then we've got a great argument right there.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think at nine and three is that good enough.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_01]: Last year, we,
- 37:05[SPEAKER_01]: was out the home of nine and three coming in.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_01]: I'm trying to remember, but I thought we had one or was it was Alabama.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_01]: I need to look this up.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't think nine and three is disqualifying because they are going to have some good wins as long as, uh,
- 37:23[SPEAKER_01]: Boisie and USC stay respectable.
- 37:25[SPEAKER_00]: So have you seen any of these Dan Landing weekly pressers at Oregon where he's sitting at like this massive desk and behind him is like, you know, the huge
- 37:39[SPEAKER_00]: Oregon.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yes, have you seen this at all?
- 37:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: I've been in that room.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_00]: So just so when you see it on on just the image of it, it looks like a James Bond movie and like he's he's the leader of Spectre, you know, is just it's a bizarre.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_00]: background for a, I don't know, I don't know why it struck me that way, but well, I mean, it's Oregon.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, we're going to do everything like super, extravagant, ornate, futuristic, whatever.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_01]: It is an odd room.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_01]: It's interesting.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_01]: By the Alabama had three loss of cutting with three losses last year, just to clear.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: Believe or not, believe Nebraska is sort of back.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_01]: I kind of believe it that the problem is they're back, but still doing the same thing, which is finding ways to lose big games.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_01]: But, I mean, for the most part, they took it to Indiana.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_01]: They largely controlled the line of scrimmage.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_01]: They had a quarterback make big plays.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_01]: Their defense was good.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_01]: But again, you've got to be able to close a game.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to be able to finish a big game.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_01]: And that's at home, rabid atmosphere.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_01]: And the two teams did, historically, this is a completely non-sensical statement.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_01]: But the two programs did what they do.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_01]: Indiana finds ways to win games.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_01]: Nebraska finds ways to lose games.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm saying, I think they are better,
- 39:16[SPEAKER_01]: for 55 minutes or 50 minutes, then they have been in quite a while.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_01]: They've got to show their better in the last five or 10.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they had that grotesque gruesome bust.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I'm the touch-down play.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_01]: Just because everybody was open gene by 20 yards, it's not that bad.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that was bad.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_00]: I agree to you.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_00]: They obviously are improved.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_00]: And now they play Oregon.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_00]: a vulnerable Oregon team, I think.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_00]: And now this is your time to prove in Nebraska.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, you showed us something against Indiana.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_00]: Now do it against Oregon.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_00]: So let's see what let's see what happens.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_00]: All right, believe or not believe UCLA will run the table.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, I do not believe that.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_01]: That ain't happening.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_01]: I get in love the UCLA story, love the team, love everything they are doing, but they've got a quarterback injury that may be season ending for Nico E. Maliava.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_01]: And if that's the case, nothing against Tyde Diefenbach, the Cal Poly Transfer who appears to be the guy.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_01]: And here's the interesting side note, Paula Boven.
- 40:29[SPEAKER_01]: former court writer, Arizona State professor, former college football playoff selection committee member, it's certain nephew.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's a great note.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_01]: So we always like it when the hacks win.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_01]: But no, they're not going on defeated.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_01]: And this schedule looks tantalizing and again, we can do this and you're smart.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_01]: You don't do that.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_01]: You don't play the scheduling game.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_01]: There's no rank to bonus between now and USC at the end, but
- 40:55[SPEAKER_01]: There's I would say certainly three loseable games given the quarterback uncertainty.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_00]: Wisconsin at Minnesota, Michigan, and then of course the rivalry game against USC.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm with you.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they can pull it off.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_00]: I don't see it.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_00]: All right, believe or not, believe the Heisman race is over.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_01]: Now, don't believe as we talked about earlier and again, I think it's there's a clear front runner and he might be 12 links ahead heading into the the back half of the race here, but
- 41:30[SPEAKER_01]: I will wait and see what happens coming out of South Bend, November 7th, and potentially elsewhere.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_01]: But I just think you got two great quarterbacks on very good teams.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_01]: Heisman, the formula, undefeated team with a good quarterback.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_01]: That guy's going to get a lot of votes.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_01]: And the other thing, you know how the media works.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_01]: You get you start fixating a one guy for like two months.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, ah, who else can we talk about?
- 41:56[SPEAKER_01]: We need, we need another name.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_01]: Who can we talk about?
- 41:58[SPEAKER_01]: And so you start finding other people, and I think there are other people to be found.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_01]: And you start trying to find flaws.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah, sure.
- 42:06[SPEAKER_00]: And Bobby Bowden, the legendary coach at Florida State, always used to say, high asmonds are one on TV.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_00]: And this point was,
- 42:15[SPEAKER_00]: The games that everybody's watching, that's when it's determined.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_00]: And there's still are some huge games, as you said, that are going to be there for other players.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_00]: And I think I mentioned this earlier in the season.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_00]: CJ Carr right now is not the front runner but Notre Dame has some opportunities where he can certainly make it interesting with Jeremiah Smith.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think either one of us are disputing the Jeremiah Smith is.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_00]: is the most talented player college player on the planet right now.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_00]: But as far as the high has been, it's such a subjective process and there are so many big games left that are going to be a national television for everyone to see that I think that could still influence things.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's in terms of the highs and we want it on TV.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great saying.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's true.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I think this is the first play I ever remember striking the high school post was Desmond Howard.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_01]: During that unbelievable game against Ohio State on national TV, Charles Woodson was great on national TV against Ohio State.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think those games helped them win the high school for sure.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_01]: So, T.B.D.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_00]: All right, Kentucky is the SEC's version of UCLA.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_01]: I, I wouldn't quite sure how to answer this.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have a binary.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I believe it.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_01]: No, I don't believe it for you.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to say, I don't quite believe it because I think it's just tougher sledding for Kentucky.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_01]: And they've just put it together and then the way they're winning and the excitement look I live in the state people are very, very excited about Kentucky football at a time when they usually are losing interest in starting to talk about Kentucky basketball so I'm all the way down on that but at Oklahoma this weekend you in that one look out.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_01]: but they're also, they're at Tennessee, they're at Missouri.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_01]: The rivalry game at the end with Louisville could really, really be good.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_01]: That could be something, though.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'm loving what they're doing, but I'm not sure I'd put them quite on the same path as UCLA.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'm with you.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think there are similarities, but I'm not sure they're equals right now.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but they sure are interesting.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_00]: They sure have been a lot of fun to watch.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_01]: uh... believe or not believe arch should come back for another season yeah it's a great question i love this question i like the discussion no no no no i'm not saying he's ready to go be a star in the NFL but i'm saying the cake has baked to the point of almost being part at texas i just think it's it's hey this season could still end really well they could be fine they'd go to play they go in national championship
- 45:19[SPEAKER_01]: This much time, I like when people stay in college in one place, but this has been a hot house for him.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_01]: And I feel like it will be time to see if you are ready to be an NFL quarterback after this.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_01]: Don't transfer.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_01]: Just go, bro.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_01]: Just go, bro.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to throw this out to you then.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_00]: You mentioned the T word transfer.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe Texas just isn't the right place for him.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's not.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_00]: Can you imagine archmaning at Indiana?
- 45:57[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I didn't even consider that.
- 46:00[SPEAKER_00]: Just think about it.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_00]: Just think about it.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_00]: Nothing against Texas, nothing against what Sartesian has done.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_00]: Just sometimes it just, I'm not seeing it hasn't worked out.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_00]: but could it work out better someplace else and is that someplace else giving what Kurt Signetti has shown?
- 46:24[SPEAKER_00]: Is it Indiana?
- 46:26[SPEAKER_00]: Should he consider a place like Indiana?
- 46:28[SPEAKER_01]: All right, you just completely changed my mind.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_01]: I love that idea now.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, again, let's not throw out the baby, the bath water, and everything else for the second half of the season.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_01]: But,
- 46:40[SPEAKER_01]: If it goes as it has gone an arches average, and Texas is not quite what it could be, and the NFL says, you know what?
- 46:47[SPEAKER_01]: We're not really quite ready for you yet, which I don't think they'll say.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think they want to draft him.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_01]: I still am not 100% sure why, but I think so.
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: But he's exactly what Josh Hoover is.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_01]: Josh Hoover was pretty much this exact guy at TCU.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_01]: He was good, but he wasn't,
- 47:07[SPEAKER_01]: where he could have been.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_01]: And Fernando Mendoza was that guy.
- 47:12[SPEAKER_01]: And you look at the pass efficiency rating for Mendoza at Cal and then what he was at IU.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's our chat almost an identical pass efficiency rating last year.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_01]: And so far he's about on the same plane.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to look and say, where's the one place I can go and just take a one year rocket ride?
- 47:31[SPEAKER_01]: I like your thinking.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, you know, again, you make the perfect point.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_00]: We, this is just of the half season, all right.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_00]: There's, we got the whole second half season, but I just, it just struck me, maybe for whatever reason, if he did, and he's one of the very few guys who could say, you know what, I really like college.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, not very yet.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_00]: I don't feel comfortable leaving yet.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_00]: I want to improve.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_00]: I want to put myself in the best position to succeed at the next level.
- 48:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to stay another year.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_00]: Indiana seems like one of those places that he might consider.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so let's go to the next one.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_00]: Believe or not believe.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_00]: Sark is right.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_00]: Archmanting gets micro criticism because of his last name.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_01]: I believe that's right.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_01]: I also think he gets macro praise because of his last name.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think he gets both.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_01]: I think he gets all outsized reactions.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't necessarily feel bad for Arch.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_01]: I don't feel like, oh, he's been unfairly treated.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think he gets what comes with the territory of being arch manning at the University of Texas.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know,
- 48:45[SPEAKER_01]: So I can say that, but he a lot of good things have happened by being archmaning at the University of Texas.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_01]: Every time I turn on a TV and see a game, there's an archmaning commercial.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_01]: So I find, you know what, this is what you get when you're archmaning.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_00]: I'm with you.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_00]: I would say I don't believe this for two reasons.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_00]: One, it's Texas.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_00]: Well, whoever the quarterback there, there is there are huge expectations and huge scrutiny and if you change the name on his back to Smith or Jones, we would still be saying the same things about his performances, yeah, that he's he has the physical tools.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_00]: He's a great teammate.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_00]: He seems like a great person.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_00]: He has a pedigree, but he makes these, slap your forehead plays where you go, oh my gosh, he's one of three people in college football to make that throw.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_00]: But then he'll do what he did against Oklahoma and he'll force the ball or he'll it doesn't make the right read he's so inconsistent at times.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I don't think there has anything to do with his last name.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think it has to do with this play.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_01]: So fair.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's where I have my dispute or my my respectful disagreement with sarkeesian on that one.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_01]: That's fair.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, guys, last name apple white sims, viewers, Gilbert, they took a lot of criticism.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_00]: It comes with with that place.
- 50:26[SPEAKER_00]: All right, believe or not believe, and I think you answered this earlier in the pod.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_00]: Mike Oco is in legitimate trouble.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_01]: No, he is not.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_01]: He is not in legitimate trouble.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think they probably still remember very well firing a football coach for $76 million.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_01]: They're in no rush to fire in my galco.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_01]: He was really good the first two years.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes they...
- 50:50[SPEAKER_01]: I'll say Brett Bielema put this a few weeks ago when the Illinois wasn't playing where it was like sometimes it really kind of just doesn't work out with the team you know it's like it's the in this day and age when you're pulling together pieces and they pulled together an offensive line out of the portal.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think you legitimately can say after two good years one bad year no you gotta go.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_00]: All right I'm with you and all that.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_00]: Believe or not believe
- 51:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for sure.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_01]: I believe that.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_01]: I first of all, again, mid-season, it's hard to hard to throw out a quarterback and an offensive coordinator and start from scratch.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_01]: You had an off-week great.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_01]: Fixed what you've got with the people you've got.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_01]: And the answer to these things whenever the question is, you got to get really cool.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_01]: Well, who's the next one?
- 51:41[SPEAKER_01]: Does he any good?
- 51:43[SPEAKER_01]: Who's going to call the plays?
- 51:44[SPEAKER_01]: Are they any good?
- 51:46[SPEAKER_01]: Stick with what you've got.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_01]: Get better in that open date.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see what they come back with.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's been a massive disappointment.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_01]: It may not get better.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't think there's any cure sitting there on the venture or in the staff room.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_00]: Cartik's some first team reps.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_00]: They are saying that Beck has said that's not unusual.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_00]: They want to get him some time there.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm with you on all this, Pat, but if it doesn't go well this week, I mean at some point in winning hand has alluded to this at some point, you know, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, if there isn't improvement, then I do think you have to at least look at your options and maybe maybe make a change.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_01]: I, I get it, and Tommy Carr obviously magic name there and well, highly recruited and everything.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_01]: He's thrown two passes in college.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_01]: So I, I'm just not ready to say, oh, look out, he was two for two against UTEP.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_01]: That ain't cutting it to me as far as like we should venture a $3 million quarterback for him.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_00]: Believe or not, believe.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_00]: No choice, Michigan makes is going to make a difference.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_01]: I believe that.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I've basically said,
- 53:02[SPEAKER_01]: Again, you can mix it up, but I'm just not sure you're going to improve what you got.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_01]: I would hope they spent the open date finding some ways to diversify an offense that is basically just five guys.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_01]: It is underwood to running backs and two receivers.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_01]: They don't throw to anybody other than two guys.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_01]: That that school's been a tight end factory.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_01]: They need to get those guys more involved.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_01]: They need to be more creative in the running game.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_01]: But I other than that, I don't think there's anything that you're going to do that's going to wave a magic wand with this thing.
- 53:35[SPEAKER_00]: The ranked a hundredth in rushing offense.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe start there.
- 53:39[SPEAKER_00]: Good.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_00]: Leave or not believe Matt Campbell is in legitimate trouble at Penn State.
- 53:46[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 53:47[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_00]: We can move on then.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to see if something else you'd like to add to that.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_00]: Nope.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_00]: That's fine.
- 53:54[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 53:55[SPEAKER_00]: Believe or not, believe Oklahoma state is going to win the big 12.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_01]: Nope.
- 54:00[SPEAKER_01]: I don't believe that.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_01]: I like the way they bounce back clearly from the Tulsa debacle.
- 54:05[SPEAKER_01]: They are good.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_01]: They are explosive.
- 54:07[SPEAKER_01]: They're exactly what everybody thought they were going to be since then.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_01]: But I think.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think Utah BYU and maybe Texas Tech are all bringing more to the table.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_01]: Now they don't play Utah or BYU.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_01]: So there is a means to get to the Big 12 championship game.
- 54:27[SPEAKER_01]: Big big game this weekend at Houston.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Houston.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they come out of that.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_01]: But right now, no, they're not the team I'm looking at to win that league.
- 54:37[SPEAKER_00]: If they beat Houston, I mean, like I want to believe,
- 54:41[SPEAKER_00]: but I want to see what they do against Houston.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_00]: But they've been fun to watch.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 54:48[SPEAKER_00]: They've been fun to watch and that turn around is for real.
- 54:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just not sure if this is the year.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_00]: So I will hand the podcast back to you, my friend.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_01]: All right, thank you.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_01]: Excellent job, team me up.
- 55:01[SPEAKER_01]: I guess.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_01]: I hope we'll see.
- 55:03[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see what the readers say or listen or say.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
- 55:05[SPEAKER_01]: All right, winners and state dinners, time for our picks, Gene, and let's get an update on the standings.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_00]: Let's not.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_01]: I continue to soar above you, 21 and 17 plus the bear pick puts me four plus a tiebreaker ahead of you at 17 and 21.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_01]: I was three and three last week.
- 55:26[SPEAKER_01]: You were two and four.
- 55:29[SPEAKER_01]: We're verging on respectability.
- 55:31[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see if we can actually get there.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_01]: This is a good, really good week of games.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_01]: Some tough games to pick, I thought.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_01]: But let's go through them.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_01]: Let's start one game.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_01]: I will be at Bloomington, Indiana, Ohio State, at Indiana.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's either the first or second biggest get home game in Indiana history, when they beat Purdue for the open bucket in 1967 to go to their first Rose Bowl that might qualify, but this one's awfully big.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_01]: Ohio State is giving three and a half on the road.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_00]: Where do you land?
- 56:03[SPEAKER_00]: Well, first of all, you're gloating.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_00]: Now makes it very clear to me why Will Wade last Saturday.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, I think Will was entirely within his purview to do.
- 56:15[SPEAKER_00]: Well, look, we've said, Ohio State has the best player on the planet in college football.
- 56:21[SPEAKER_00]: IU was sort of, I don't want to say exposed, but clearly their secondary has some issues.
- 56:29[SPEAKER_00]: They weren't able to run the ball last week against Nebraska.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm going to take I.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_00]: You and the points partly because they are facing a different kind of quarterback and they did last week saying isn't a running type of quarterback, which Nebraska had, which I think presented some problems for IU.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I also think that.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_00]: I use some pretty good wide receivers too, and I imagine that they'd just about had it listening about how great Jeremiah Smith is.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I just think Indiana is going to have a bit of a bounce back performance.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_00]: And so I'm not saying Indiana is going to win the game, but I'll take those three and a half points.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'll say Indiana is going to win the game.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm disappointed.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_01]: I was hoping you were going to pick the buck ice, but this is tough game.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_01]: I may just be a little bit over a line on being dazzled by everything Indiana's done.
- 57:28[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no, that's not true, Pat.
- 57:31[SPEAKER_01]: That's not true.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_01]: They backed it up pretty well now.
- 57:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm with you.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_01]: I heard them around.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_01]: Big 10 championship game last year.
- 57:40[SPEAKER_01]: Brian Haynes defense when they when it gets down to the red zone, they condense the field and they kept Ohio State out.
- 57:47[SPEAKER_01]: No, Ohio State screwed some things up, but I think
- 57:51[SPEAKER_01]: Other than the the obvious mismatch with Jeremiah Smith, who, look, he hit in the NFL 144 yards last year in the big 10 championship and he still only scored 10 points in the NBA.
- 58:03[SPEAKER_01]: So red zone defense make the plays with your wide outs get the running game going a little bit better Ohio State has a starting offensive lineman out.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going with the Hoosiers.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 58:14[SPEAKER_01]: All right, the weird to win out right other huge one here the last big non conference game.
- 58:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think really.
- 58:24[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I'll know today.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_01]: My name.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_01]: This is Notre Dame BYU in Provo.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_01]: The other one words, like is this or is this not the biggest home game in BYU history.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_01]: Probably is Notre Dame Lang 10 in Provo.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think?
- 58:41[SPEAKER_00]: Well, those wins against Purdue, Wisconsin, North Carolina, look a little better for Notre Dame these days.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 58:50[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't know what that really means relative to this pick, but they could get Leonard more back this week.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_00]: He's been out with the concussion, so there's he was listed as questionable earlier in the week, so we'll see if he ends up playing that would be a huge plus.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_00]: I pick BYU to win the big 12 and their defense has been as been stout, but
- 59:17[SPEAKER_00]: I have a hard time picking against Notre Dame, even given up the 10 points.
- 59:22[SPEAKER_00]: Notre Dame is plus 13 in turnover margin.
- 59:26[SPEAKER_00]: Their running game has started to show real signs of live CJCAR.
- 59:30[SPEAKER_00]: We know what he can do.
- 59:32[SPEAKER_00]: I will take the Irish and give the 10.
- 59:37[SPEAKER_01]: I will too, Notre Dame doesn't just tend to win.
- 59:40[SPEAKER_01]: They tend to win pretty authoritatively.
- 59:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they have the best defense in the country.
- 59:45[SPEAKER_01]: They're number one in total defense.
- 59:47[SPEAKER_01]: And they are really good at every level, or even really good.
- 59:53[SPEAKER_01]: Everything you want to defense to do.
- 59:55[SPEAKER_01]: So I love that.
- 59:57[SPEAKER_01]: I love the boost in the running game that the freshmen, Jonas Walton, has given them.
- 1:00:02[SPEAKER_01]: So I think they're more explosive.
- 1:00:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they can cover that 10.
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_00]: 16 consecutive wins by double digits.
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they don't mess around staff that I saw.
- 1:00:12[SPEAKER_01]: They do not mess around.
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_01]: Ever since they messed around too much against Texas and I'm in mind, we've started last year.
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_01]: All right, game, we talked about briefly, Ohio State.
- 1:00:20[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, Oklahoma State, getting four and a half at Houston, what do you think?
- 1:00:26[SPEAKER_00]: I'm taking Oklahoma State.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just a huge fan of Mr. Maker.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think that defense while not elite is serviceable.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_00]: So again, I know it's on the road and I have great respect for Houston, but I'll take the 4.5 in Oklahoma State.
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_01]: I'm really torn on this because I think Connor Wegman's been very good and under half used and he's done really well.
- 1:00:53[SPEAKER_01]: They play they they're only lost with the Texas Tech by about six inches at the goal line, but I love what like everything you said about Columbus State I'm with and so I'm going to ride the hot hand with the cowboys there and take the points to see what happens.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_01]: I bet crowd could could be a lot of Oklahoma State orange in that crowd too.
- 1:01:16[SPEAKER_01]: All right, a former rivalry game, the carcass of Florida State, getting 21 at Miami.
- 1:01:27[SPEAKER_01]: Mike Norvall is alluded to, still has his job for economic reasons, not for performance reasons, where are you going here?
- 1:01:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I can't believe, you know, this used to be one of the absolute greatest rivalries in college football.
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Norvel Agony Tour continues.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think Miami will show any mercy whatsoever.
- 1:01:54[SPEAKER_00]: And FSU is ranked 120 first in total defense.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that defense is so bad.
- 1:02:02[SPEAKER_00]: It would qualify for federal disaster funding.
- 1:02:04[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't know how they beat Miami.
- 1:02:11[SPEAKER_00]: And 21 points normally would seem like a lot, but it just doesn't feel like a lot in this one.
- 1:02:18[SPEAKER_01]: I agree, um, I think my name is going to absolutely lay the lumber on them.
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_01]: And what about, if, if one play can decide the, the trajectory of a season and a whole tenure, it was his decision, they were, uh, boat racing, uh, blew up 14 nothings.
- 1:02:37[SPEAKER_01]: Fourth and goal inside the five, they go for it.
- 1:02:39[SPEAKER_01]: They throw a swing pass.
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_01]: They don't get it.
- 1:02:42[SPEAKER_01]: Louisville goes 97 yards on the next play and it was over like they crumbled.
- 1:02:47[SPEAKER_01]: That team crumbled.
- 1:02:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:02:49[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't like their chances to be resilient against a super explosive Miami team that I agree will be looking to not just win, but to really dominate that game.
- 1:03:01[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 1:03:02[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's see.
- 1:03:04[SPEAKER_01]: I've suddenly lost the rundown.
- 1:03:05[SPEAKER_01]: Here we go, last one, Missouri getting six at Mississippi, big SEC game.
- 1:03:13[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of line here as we try to sort out that second tier of the SEC.
- 1:03:19[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think?
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot on your head there, too.
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_00]: That Missouri hat.
- 1:03:26[SPEAKER_00]: the fighting Pat 40s.
- 1:03:28[SPEAKER_00]: What year did you graduate there?
- 1:03:30[SPEAKER_01]: Do I have to disclose that information?
- 1:03:32[SPEAKER_01]: No, you don't have to.
- 1:03:33[SPEAKER_01]: 1931.
- 1:03:34[SPEAKER_01]: No, and what's the statue located at seven?
- 1:03:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's something it's still under it's being worked on.
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:03:41[SPEAKER_00]: What happened the last time Mazu went into the state of Mississippi?
- 1:03:45[SPEAKER_01]: They lost.
- 1:03:46[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:03:48[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that's going to matter this time.
- 1:03:55[SPEAKER_00]: is Ole Miss sneaking a tiny peek ahead to that game at Texas next week, they'd better not.
- 1:04:02[SPEAKER_00]: Mizzou is really impressed me recently and I think they've kind of got the mojo and they're just a well-built team.
- 1:04:13[SPEAKER_00]: They know who they are and as talented as Ole Miss is, especially offensively, I just don't see it.
- 1:04:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'll take Mizzou in this one.
- 1:04:24[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 1:04:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to take Mizzou with the points as well.
- 1:04:27[SPEAKER_01]: Austin Simmons big return game for him.
- 1:04:30[SPEAKER_01]: He was the starting quarterback for the Rebels until he got injured and was also pretty ineffective.
- 1:04:36[SPEAKER_01]: I can tuck you and they put in this kid for the NAD Chambers and that changed their trajectory of many things.
- 1:04:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's not Austin Simmons for the portal ended up at Missouri.
- 1:04:45[SPEAKER_01]: He's played better and better.
- 1:04:46[SPEAKER_01]: There were severs are excellent.
- 1:04:48[SPEAKER_01]: Jamal Roberts has been great at running back.
- 1:04:50[SPEAKER_01]: They are healthier on the defensive line.
- 1:04:53[SPEAKER_01]: So I like Missouri's chances certainly to cover possibly to win.
- 1:04:57[SPEAKER_00]: Can I give you the the absolute your worst nightmare right now?
- 1:05:01[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 1:05:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think you've agreed with every pick I've met.
- 1:05:04[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no.
- 1:05:06[SPEAKER_01]: No, yeah.
- 1:05:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking actually.
- 1:05:07[SPEAKER_01]: Gene, I've been filling these in the other genome.
- 1:05:10[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, that's a disadvantage.
- 1:05:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you're doomed.
- 1:05:13[SPEAKER_00]: This is not so doomed.
- 1:05:15[SPEAKER_01]: Fortunately, we have a lock of the week.
- 1:05:17[SPEAKER_01]: So if you got one, lay it on me.
- 1:05:20[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I don't think I've gotten one lock of the week this entire season.
- 1:05:25[SPEAKER_00]: So I've just decided this week.
- 1:05:32[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe go the reverse psychology thing.
- 1:05:35[SPEAKER_00]: Somebody has to win the Rutgers Maryland game, right?
- 1:05:40[SPEAKER_00]: Somebody does somebody has to.
- 1:05:42[SPEAKER_00]: Maryland is minus four and a half, I believe.
- 1:05:46[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to take Maryland for no other reason.
- 1:05:50[SPEAKER_00]: Then my nephew and niece buddy Lee and Zoe went there.
- 1:05:55[SPEAKER_00]: My friends, Tim Kerchins got fan Pelt and Maryland grads.
- 1:05:59[SPEAKER_00]: So just in onage of them getting those Maryland diplomas and the fact that Maryland can't be this bad, can they?
- 1:06:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm taking Maryland and I'll give the point.
- 1:06:12[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 1:06:14[SPEAKER_01]: If you're picking Maryland to do anything, that's bold.
- 1:06:17[SPEAKER_01]: Now, of course, it's against Rutgers.
- 1:06:19[SPEAKER_01]: So I understand.
- 1:06:20[SPEAKER_00]: But, okay, well, what's your genius wisdom pick this week?
- 1:06:24[SPEAKER_00]: Lock it awake.
- 1:06:26[SPEAKER_01]: If it's Gerald Bowl in East Lansing, North Western visiting the Spartans,
- 1:06:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna go ahead and lay the seven and a half and say North Western wins and covers.
- 1:06:38[SPEAKER_01]: North Michigan State is decimated by injury and also bad.
- 1:06:43[SPEAKER_01]: And North Western is good.
- 1:06:45[SPEAKER_01]: Played at a very high level the last few weeks.
- 1:06:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think they've got a very potent offense, chip killies, making it happen, a child's running game, playing wing teeth, football out there.
- 1:06:57[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Michigan State has the juice to slow them down.
- 1:07:01[SPEAKER_00]: All right, didn't Michigan State play pretty well last week.
- 1:07:05[SPEAKER_00]: They lost.
- 1:07:06[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, but all right, okay, all right, hey, look, I can't say a word.
- 1:07:11[SPEAKER_00]: You're like 600 games ahead of me in the standings.
- 1:07:15[SPEAKER_00]: Very genius.
- 1:07:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just a guy, you know, with a bad pullover.
- 1:07:20[SPEAKER_01]: So well, let me leave you with this, Jane.
- 1:07:25[SPEAKER_01]: Just some just some advice on how to handle if you get a solicitor to the door.
- 1:07:29[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe in this case, a Jehovah's Witness, oh, this is all that this is great.
- 1:07:34[SPEAKER_00]: Go ahead.
- 1:07:35[SPEAKER_01]: Coming to your door to, you know, try to talk religion with you.
- 1:07:40[SPEAKER_01]: Uh-huh.
- 1:07:42[SPEAKER_01]: This is a great response, but it may also get you arrested.
- 1:07:45[SPEAKER_01]: So I, or a charged at least with a misdemeanor, which is a bit, Bentonville, Arkansas, where else?
- 1:07:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right, police report, 32 year old,
- 1:07:57[SPEAKER_01]: I won't say the name, why should I answer the door in a robe, argued with the visitors about religion, then open it to exposure, noobbody, and I'll look at them taste her for bitten fruit.
- 1:08:08[SPEAKER_01]: Which, that's maybe taking it a little bit far.
- 1:08:11[SPEAKER_01]: I like it.
- 1:08:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, she said she wanted, she was tired of people coming to the door and invited and wanted to shock them.
- 1:08:18[SPEAKER_01]: Sided for these next exposure disorderly conduct, that's one way to handle the Jehovah's Witnesses.
- 1:08:26[SPEAKER_01]: You have a better way.
- 1:08:27[SPEAKER_01]: You've got any ideas on a better method for handling this.
- 1:08:33[SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
- 1:08:34[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to comment on any of that.
- 1:08:36[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:08:37[SPEAKER_00]: But I did see the photo of her.
- 1:08:43[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know if you have.
- 1:08:47[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, all I'll say is the Jehovah Witnesses, the folks were in for a surprise.
- 1:08:56[SPEAKER_01]: That's the word.
- 1:08:58[SPEAKER_01]: In the future, I think my advice would be, don't open the door.
- 1:09:02[SPEAKER_01]: You know, just don't get to that point.
- 1:09:05[SPEAKER_01]: But wow, that is fighting fire with fire, I guess you would say.
- 1:09:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's like Halloween.
- 1:09:10[SPEAKER_00]: You just turn off the front porch light.
- 1:09:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 1:09:12[SPEAKER_01]: Take that.
- 1:09:12[SPEAKER_01]: Blow out the light on the pumpkin or just, yeah, just pretend to go.
- 1:09:17[SPEAKER_01]: Alright, that's the show.
- 1:09:18[SPEAKER_01]: Clearly that's enough.
- 1:09:19[SPEAKER_01]: A little bit longer today, but thank you for watching and listening and we will be back next week and enjoy the games this week and should be awesome.
