- 1:29We've had so many listeners request these. They're based right on the original book,

- 2:37out did Johnny totally blow the Fathom five Matter? Here? Now is the
- 2:42Fathom five Matter, Part five from Hollywood. It's time now for Johnny Dilly
- 2:52Bonnie Wilson here. All right, mister Wilson, I embraced rubbing in.
- 2:55Well, you were a little over confident, over confident. Let's face it,
- 3:00I made a jerker myself. After I apologize to you, I've got
- 3:02to crawl out there and apologize to missus Marky, I wouldn't be too hasty
- 3:07about it. I've been putting it off for the last two hours. After
- 3:09the way I talked to her, I'd rather walk into a cage of lions
- 3:13and face her again. But I thought her husband was alive, and I
- 3:15thought she knew it. Then your boys have to go and pull his body
- 3:20out of the surf. Well, that's why I call. I had a
- 3:23tag for an out and out insurance fraud, mister Dollar. The way it
- 3:25looks right now, I don't know what it is. It was probably murder.
- 3:29What else. Look, if you want to lose your mind, you
- 3:30come on over here to the mag Why what do you mean, mister Dollar.
- 3:35I've been a detective for twenty years, but I've never hit one before
- 3:38that was as crazy as this Tonight and every weekday night. Bob Bailey and
- 3:50the Transcribed Adventures of the Man with the Action Packed Expenser out America's Fabulous Freelance
- 3:53Insurance Investigators, Truly Johnny Dollar. From Special Investigator Johnny Dollar, Location Miami
- 4:13Beach to the home office, Delta Liability, Hartford, Connecticut Assignment. The
- 4:17Phathom five Matter it happened to involve a seventy five thousand insurance policy. It
- 4:27am seventeen a dollar and sixty cents taxi from my hotel to the county More.
- 4:31I couldn't figure what Wilson meant. When the cruiser Fathom five burned and
- 4:35sank and William Marky's body wasn't found, I thought I'd spotted an attempted insurance
- 4:41swindle. I'd even warned Missus Markey not to try to file acclaim, and
- 4:46then a few hours ago Marky's drown body had been washed up on the beach.
- 4:49Wilson should be happy he'd been proven right, but instead he'd sounded more
- 4:55mixed up and uncertain than he'd been before. Good morning, mister Dollar.
- 5:10You know you don't pick the pleasantest places in the world, the whole conferences.
- 5:14I thought you might want to take a look at him, So I'll
- 5:16be eternally blasted if I know what anybody could tell by looking. Well,
- 5:25there's lad who's given us all the trouble, mister Dollar, William Markey,
- 5:30number four twenty three. I never thought i'd see him here. I told
- 5:35Missus Marky that the only thing that would convince me he was and alive would
- 5:40be to see his body, all right? And I'm convinced, and I'll
- 5:45never try to outguess an ocean current again. Everything seemed to add up to
- 5:53No, wait a minute, I wondered how long it be before you noticed?
- 5:58Doesn't make sense? Like I said on the phone, this one is
- 6:00crazy. This was pulled out of the surf this morning, right, and
- 6:05the cruiser sank five days ago. That's when Marky supposedly drowned. You're on
- 6:10the beam, mister dollar. This body hasn't been in the ocean for five
- 6:14days. You win the four day trip to Bermuda and a complete new wardrobe.
- 6:17Have you had an AUTOPSYA Doc Morgan just finished it twenty minutes ago.
- 6:21That's why I called you. Doc wouldn't stick around himself, No, I
- 6:26think he went out to get drunk. How long does he think Marky has
- 6:29been dead? Not over eighteen hours since sometime last night. Looks like we
- 6:33were both right for whatever good it is. He was alive after the sinking,
- 6:39just like you cleimed, and now he's dead just like that claimed what
- 6:42was the cause of death drowning? Only you haven't heard the real crazy part
- 6:46yet. Why what do you mean You remember we found one of his shoes
- 6:49washed in a couple of days ago. Yeah, the body was wearing two
- 6:54shoes when they pulled it out. They always make one slip, don't they?
- 6:58A couple? In this key, it's the second one that nearly push
- 7:01Doc Morgan off his rocket? What second one? Markey was drowned, all
- 7:05right, but not notion? Huh. It was fresh water in his lungs,
- 7:10not seawater. Was Morgan sure swore by it? Men at it.
- 7:15That's what threw him. Yeah. I imagine when you get an eighteen hour
- 7:18test on a man who was supposed to have been dead for five days and
- 7:21find fresh water wanted out to be salt. I guess the late mister Market
- 7:29can't tell as much of anything else. So where do we go from here?
- 7:31Mister Dollon, great question. You haven't found the Carriet, the one
- 7:35Market bought under an assumed name. No no, but I'd give the boys
- 7:39an extra proud to bear down on it. Half the town forces out looking
- 7:42for it. Now. Wonder where he was hiding out for those four days.
- 7:45What I want to know is who killed him and how and why why?
- 7:47It's fairly easy. It's the whole and how that carry the question marks?
- 7:51That fingerprint idea was certain. Huh, there's not the slightest stop of
- 7:56what this is when you're market Oh you're looking for an easy way out,
- 7:58mister dollar. Yeah, I guess Sam at that. Well, then it
- 8:01looks like our number one, as the lads you've been after all along,
- 8:05young Danny Haynes. What do you say we go and have a talk with
- 8:09him. Only one thing was wrong with the idea. It didn't work.
- 8:18Haynes wasn't in and the clerk at his hotel said he hadn't seen him all
- 8:22day. The night clerk admitted that he'd slept through most of his shift and
- 8:26wasn't sure of anything. We searched haynes room and found nothing, so for
- 8:31the moment we left it at that. Wilson put a stake out in the
- 8:33hotel and went back to his office. I went to my hotel and waited
- 8:45Johnny Dolling, Bonnie Wilson, Yeah, what's up? We finally got a
- 8:48break. The boys found that car were parked at the curb out on the
- 8:50east side of town may have been abandoned there. It maybe where Marky was
- 8:54hiding out. It's in front of an apartment house. Have they checked through
- 8:56it yet? No, they haven't touched it. I'm leaving to go out
- 9:00there now. Want me to swing by and pick up. If you don't,
- 9:01I'll sue. Y'all meet you out in front of the hotel. We
- 9:09stopped to block away and walked up to the apartments. The car was still
- 9:11parked at the curb, and the plain clothes man watching it said no one
- 9:15had been near it. We went on inside and found the landlady, identified
- 9:18ourselves and started questioning her. Luck seems to still be with us. Well,
- 9:22you see most of them, I guess a permanent as you might say,
- 9:26or at least as permanent as renters. Ever, all, yes,
- 9:28we understand. In fact, the only unit I've let in the last two
- 9:31months is number fourteen, that's up one flight with a pull down bed.
- 9:35Did you rent that one? Well, let's see now, I think it
- 9:39was about ten days ago. He paid a month's renting ava. What was
- 9:43his name, mister Jones? A very nice, quiet, middle aged fella,
- 9:48blue bombshell. Oh yes, and never went out much after he moved
- 9:52in. That is, he didn't stay here for the first four or five
- 9:54days after he rented it until the night the father five. When you see
- 9:58mister Jones lett, Well, it's a funny thing. He went out yesterday
- 10:03evening and he didn't come back at all. Kind of a car did he
- 10:05drive? Oh? Good, heavens, I don't know, but you can
- 10:09look for yourself. It's parked out there at the curb. A friend of
- 10:11his brought it by a while ago. What's the friend's name? Why I
- 10:15didn't ask him? He's an awful, nice young fella, he said.
- 10:18Mister Jones was going on a trip and sent him to pick up his belongings,
- 10:22and he had mister Jones's key, So I decided it was all right.
- 10:24He's up there packing now. Well, thirteen, it's next door down
- 10:37there. Better take it easy. It's hard to tell what to expect,
- 10:39right, he's all right? Try the knob, easy, cluck and there
- 10:52isn't much choice. Open up, pains, we want to talk, do
- 11:00you? I said? Open up? Watch, I'm warning you. We
- 11:09know now what to expect. I'll cover the door here. Do you go
- 11:11down and tell Dave to cover the outside windows and call in for a couple
- 11:13of squad cars. Hey, he's going out that window. There must be
- 11:16a fire escape. Come on, let's hit the door. There he is
- 11:24at the bottom of the fire escape. Hold it hands, our hands.
- 11:30It's up to you. Go down that gonner, I'll drop you. I'm
- 11:35sorry, kid, he's done. Yeah, that second shot was dead center.
- 11:41I know. I tried to hold low on A'm going to jumped up
- 11:43on me. Well, he said he'd die for her if it came to
- 11:46that. It came to that. It was after dark when Wilson and I
- 11:58drove out to the Market Beach. There were no lights on and nobody answered
- 12:01the doorbell, so Wilson forced entrance and we shook the place down. We
- 12:07found evidence of a struggle in the study and in the bathroom. Water from
- 12:11the bathtub had overflowed behind the tile and was still seeping out along the baseboard.
- 12:15We found a dressing gown of Missus Markey stuffed in the back of a
- 12:18closet, soaking wet. Piece by piece, Wilson collected his evidence and the
- 12:22picture became more and more clear. He phoned in for a fingerprint crew and
- 12:28went on working. I left him there and went back into town to my
- 12:31hotel and took the elevator up to my room, mister dollar, what are
- 12:43you doing here waiting for you? They've got extras out they say the police
- 12:46shot Danny Haynes. I thought maybe you could tell me what it's all about.
- 12:50Sure, and what you mostly want to know is how much he talked
- 12:54before he died? Isn't that in missus Marquis? I don't know what you
- 13:00Then go on out to your house and ask Wilson. He's out there with
- 13:03a fingerprint, cruel, and I imagine he can tell you anything you want
- 13:07to know. By now, I slipped up last night. I thought it
- 13:09was Haines who came to your door, but it wasn't. It was your
- 13:13husband, and you told him to come back later. Then when I left,
- 13:18you called Haines and had him come over if he said that he lied.
- 13:20I even gave you the idea for it myself, when I said,
- 13:24the only thing that could convince me your husband wasn't alive would be to see
- 13:26his dead body. So you talked Haines into helping you provide the evidence.
- 13:31I said I'd have to have. My husband's body was found in the ocean.
- 13:33They told me that this evening. Yeah, but he didn't die there.
- 13:37He was drowned in the bathtub at your house, and you and Haines
- 13:39did it. You're out of your mind. Danny Haines was live, and
- 13:43go tell Wilson it's his job now, not mine. Maybe you'll be able
- 13:46to convince him, but I doubt it, and I'm pretty sure you won't
- 13:50be able to convince a jury you think not. I'll get the best lawyer
- 13:54money conbined. Yeah, you do that, Missus Markis, but don't plan
- 13:56on using any of that insurance money for it, because there won't be any.
- 14:01That policy was already void when you and Haines killed your husband last night.
- 14:05An attempted fraud cancels the policy the minute it's committed. In other words,
- 14:11Missus Marky, five days ago, when your husband sank the Fathom five
- 14:13and tried to play dead, I don't believe it. You've lost out all
- 14:18the way around, Missus Markey, your husband, your boyfriend, your insurance
- 14:22claim, and now you stand a pretty good chance of losing your life.
- 14:26A four time loser. That's really a record expense account out of eighteen,
- 14:35three hundred and twenty one dollars and sixty cents. Hotel and incidentals in Miami
- 14:39and transportation back to Hartford. Expenser count total six hundred and eighty four dollars
- 14:43and ninety five cents. End of account and of report remarks. You quoted
- 14:50a line of Shakespeare at the start of this case, Ralph full fathom five,
- 14:54Thy father lies. Well you're wrong. It turns out to be the
- 14:58widow who lies and lies and lies. Yours truly, Johnny Dollar. Remember
- 15:18there'll be another exciting story of Yours truly, Johnny Dollar, beginning next Monday
- 15:24Night. Next week. Well, if I'd minded my own business, I
- 15:26wouldn't have heard the girl beg for help, and from that point on I
- 15:31needed help. Join us, won't you, Yours truly, Johnny Dollar?
- 15:46Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar is starring Bob Bailey, is transcribed in Hollywood,
- 15:50written by Les Crutchfield. It is produced and directed by Jack Johnstone. Heard
- 15:56in this week's cast where Mary Jane Croft, Barney Phillips, Carlton Yell,
- 16:00Eleanor Udley, Sam Edwards, Shepmanken, and John Dayner. Musical supervision by
- 16:04Amerigo Marino. Be sure to join us on Monday Night, same time and
- 16:08station for another exciting story of yours, truly, Johnny Dollar. This is
- 16:15Roy Rowan speaking welcome back. Well, actually, I found it kind of
- 17:23funny when you had the district attorney making the point that both he and Johnny
- 17:30had been technically right. No, no, you were never right in this
- 17:37case because your big assumption, the big basis for the claim was that he'd
- 17:48been killed on the Phantom five, and of course that wasn't the case.
- 17:53In this episode, we really dealt with probably the worst of them fatales,
- 18:00the uh you know, because Johnny made it clear the insurance company could not
- 18:06prosecute them at all because they hadn't filed the claim yet, and there would
- 18:12have been no legal issues if they just gone ahead and decided to stage husband
- 18:21come back. But she got greedy, and unfortunately for her, just I
- 18:30did not really think I had that well, but hopefully Johnny learned a lesson
- 18:34and he'll avoid ever jumping quickly to any conclusions without evidence and just be very
- 18:41cautious and circumspect about everything he says and does. And if you believe that
- 18:48now, I don't think we'd even though it's technically a flaw, I don't
- 18:52think it's one we would have Johnny Doller without in this Bob Bailey version.
- 18:57Now on to some listener comments. Lisa says, I enjoyed great detectives and
- 19:03particularly Dragnet, which brings me back to my childhood. Thanks Adam, and
- 19:11let's let's let's see here any additional comments I know that will on that.
- 19:18Barbara Dury Gene Russell on Facebook says, of yours, truly, Johnny Doller
- 19:22the best series ever, and uh, it's hard to think of one when
- 19:27we're listening to these five parters that really was better. This is to me
- 19:33the peak of of of a great radio. It's it just doesn't get much
- 19:41better than this. The writing, the directing, the acting, and just
- 19:47the stories. This is, you know, next to some of the episodes
- 19:51of Dragon It this is really just some of the finest radio we'll hear,
- 19:55and we're glad to bring it to you. All Right, Well, now
- 19:59we have a car Brown mystery to continue. It's time for crom for King
- 20:04Part three. Carter Brown Mysteries, Adventures and Excitement and Suspense, based on
- 20:25the best selling novels by the slick storytelling sensation Carter Brown. The deeper I
- 20:49delved into the setup, the more it made mystery. It was turning out
- 20:52a king size problem for a private eye. Call King. My big bewilderment
- 20:56was concerned with the date, the eighteenth, on which something was supposed to
- 21:00happen, which everyone was worried about in one way or another. But I
- 21:04figured I stood a fair chance of finding out what the eighteenth meant. After
- 21:08the ultimatum I had delivered to Marcia Olive, I was due to call on
- 21:12her at midnight, when I hoped all would be explained. Meantime, I
- 21:17headed for the precinct to pick up my car, which had been impounded from
- 21:19in front of Paulvey's office. After a long explanation to the police about sick
- 21:25relatives and a twenty dollars fine, I got the Dodge back and then it
- 21:29was close enough to midnight. And Marcia, Ah, it's you. It's
- 21:40not my twin brother. You couldn't have a twin brother. There couldn't be
- 21:42two mistakes like you. You're Marcia, You're sweet, like cyanide candidate.
- 21:47Cut the compliments and come in. You praised the invitation so tenderly. I
- 21:51can't resist. I'm glad. Well, just stand nice and still. This
- 21:55is a hair trigger and my fingers twitching shut the door, Marcia. Sure
- 22:02we've been waiting for you, Pal. Well, that's nice of you,
- 22:04Rodney. It's gonna be even nicer. I'm gonna relieve you of your gun.
- 22:08Then your coat will fit better. That's not my gun, it's my
- 22:11tailor. I'll have it anyway. I'd hate to put temptation in your in
- 22:15your path. Eh, that's better, you know, Roger. I'm surprised
- 22:21you forgot about Rodney so quickly. Honey, I'm even more surprised. I
- 22:25must be slipping. That can happen when a guy gets close to his end.
- 22:29I've still got a way to go, have you well? I thought
- 22:32I had, But I guess I could be wrong. You certainly could.
- 22:34Pal. You know you're a guy who keeps looking for trouble. Uh huh,
- 22:40it keeps looking for me. You should have kept moving south when you
- 22:42got off that yacht. A guy can't be that lucky twice, I suppose
- 22:47not. You're a problem, Pal, but not too big a one for
- 22:52a guy with brains? Oh where is he? I don't don't get smart,
- 22:55king, Sorry, you see. Our problem with you is this,
- 23:00you're still around. You're liable to tell Paulvey things we don't want him to
- 23:03know. He's got a nasty, suspicious mind. So what are we going
- 23:08to do. Let's think it over for the next fortnite. Murder isn't a
- 23:11rap, i'd care to risk. I'm glad to hear you say that.
- 23:15I'll bet you are. You haven't heard it all, Pal, I'm listening.
- 23:18Tell me this. Where does Paulvy think you are? Now? Well?
- 23:22I guess he that's right, Pal, he thinks you're under the water
- 23:27with the rest of the boys who were on his hut. So maybe you
- 23:30can figure the answer to our problem now. Huh. If it's what I
- 23:34think, you get the prize. Pal. All I have to do is
- 23:37put you back where you belong, under the water, and nobody's going to
- 23:41miss you. And if anyone does, that's Paulvy's worring, not mine.
- 23:45You're forgetting one thing, Rodney. When I took that sea voyage, it
- 23:48was planned very suddenly, so suddenly that I didn't have a chance to shift
- 23:52my car from outside Paulvey's office. So what so the police impoundered it after
- 23:56it had been there a couple of days. I don't get it. Guess
- 24:00when I paid twenty bucks to get it back when exactly forty five minutes ago.
- 24:04So if you knock me off, it's not going to be Pulvey's worry.
- 24:08It's going to be yours. The police know I was alive an hour
- 24:12ago. You're alive. Wait a minute, Rodney, he's not. I
- 24:18remember seeing a car driven away from out front of the office. What model
- 24:21is it? Roger Blue Dodge forty nine. So then that's it. I
- 24:23saw it all a Rodney, no language in front of the lady. Well,
- 24:26I think this change is the whole thing. What are we going to
- 24:30do? I don't know. Well, I think I do. Huh,
- 24:33let's have an hour of look at this thing. Now that I've proved i'd
- 24:36be a nuisance if you killed me. What about a deal such as you
- 24:41tell me what happens on the eighteenth, and I'll tell you what I know.
- 24:44How about that? What's your angle? King? I'm not working for
- 24:48anyone. I decided tonight to resign from my latest employer. So I've just
- 24:52got a large slice of curiosity after Paulvey tried to get rid of me.
- 24:56Whatever's behind it, it must be doing it, and I'm not the sort
- 24:59of to look sideways at a buck. I'm not even ready to quarrel whether
- 25:03it's an honest bucker or not. Oh, monsieur, what you think it
- 25:08might be a proposition? Rodney. That's one sure way of keeping his mouth
- 25:12shut between now and the eighteenth. And we could use someone else. It
- 25:15might make the job easier. Yeah, yeah, you could be right at
- 25:18that. Okay, King, I'm putting the gun away. It's a deal.
- 25:23Fine, how about a drink to clinch it. I've got a kind
- 25:26of dry feeling. I'll bet with my gun steering you in the face and
- 25:32fix the drinks. Baby. Sure, that's pretty lucky for you, King.
- 25:36That business about the cops in your car, Yeah, I guess so.
- 25:38You'd have been laying around the bottom of the sea without it. Forget
- 25:41that, Rodney, Here are the drinks. Thanks for you'll forgive me if
- 25:45I don't wait? I needed that, Okay, Rodney, suppose you give
- 25:51with the story now? Sure? Well? First of all, Paulvey Overseas
- 25:56Enterprises Incorporated is import X. Business is just a sideline. His real work
- 26:02is jewelry. Paulvey's one of the finest craftsmen in the world. When anybody's
- 26:07got something really valuable. They want all of it or fixed. They take
- 26:11it along to Paulvey. He's kept his name pretty quiet for obvious reasons.
- 26:15Of course, he wouldn't want the boys to collect that kind of stuff illegally
- 26:18to get to hear about him. Next we come into a dame, the
- 26:21Baroness Finalts you ever heard of her? King, No, when you should
- 26:25have. She owns the Carmel Royin diamond pendant. I've heard of that.
- 26:29She bought it for half a million dollars. They say it's worth more now.
- 26:33It must be nice to have money. The Baroness arrived here a couple
- 26:37of days ago. Was in the papers. I never read the social cop
- 26:40You should, then you might have figured what that date means. The eighteenth.
- 26:45You see, on the eighteenth there's a ball being held in honor of
- 26:48the Baroness Finals. Everybody who's anybody in town will be there, and the
- 26:52Baroness will be wearing her pend daylight breaks through. Correct me if I'm wrong.
- 26:57On the eighteenth you aim to say snatched the Baroness's pendul I'm correcting you.
- 27:02Paulv aims to have it snatched. What I may not be the brightest
- 27:06private eye in the business. But that doesn't sound smart to me. You
- 27:10haven't heard the half of it. I whope not to snatch of pendant like
- 27:11that. You have to love it for its own sake. Nobody had touched
- 27:15it, it'd be too hot. Sure, you're one hundred percent right.
- 27:17Well, well, it so happens that when the Baroness arrived here, she
- 27:22found the clip on the pendant needed some attention. So who does she send
- 27:26it to. I'll guess pby Paulvey, the expert, who luckily enough,
- 27:30lives right here. And Paul ve has the pendant for three days with cops
- 27:33and guards sitting all over the joint us. So what you're getting hard to
- 27:37follow, Rodney, It'll clear up. Now. Get this. When Paulvey
- 27:41knows he's getting the pendant to work on, he makes an imitation pendent,
- 27:45a pretty good one, not so good the little fool the experts, but
- 27:48good enough to fool a baroness. When the time comes for him to return
- 27:53the pendit, he's going to return the imitation and hang on to the original.
- 27:57How does he figure he's gonna get away with that? How long does
- 28:00he think it'll take before the Baroness finds out she's got a phony. That's
- 28:03right. So Paulvy is arranging to have the fake pendant snatched at the ball
- 28:08on the eighteenth. Oh you get it now. He has the fake snatched,
- 28:14then he waits for the insurance comp to offer a reward. It's insured
- 28:18for three hundred thousand dollars and the insurance company won't think there's anything unusual about
- 28:22the pendant being offered to them through a jeweler. I tell you this Paulvy
- 28:27character has some ideas, very neat, so he collects the insurance on the
- 28:32diamond without having to worry about the spoorsing of it, which he couldn't do
- 28:34anyway. Saying it so well known, it's really one for the books,
- 28:37isn't it. You said it, Marcia, But where do you and Rodney
- 28:41come into it? That's simple. I'm the guy Paulvy's paying to do the
- 28:45snatch. Yeah. Well, that's interesting, isn't it? But not as
- 28:51interesting as they set up between you and Marcia. From what I overheard earlier
- 28:55to night, neither of you exactly care for Paulvie. You can say that
- 28:57again. So my brilliant mind leads to conclusion that maybe you two are planning
- 29:00a little piece of double cross right on the button. Pal We got it
- 29:06planned rather cutely, even though I say it myself. You see, I'll
- 29:08be at the ball, and so will Paul. But while where busy there,
- 29:14Marcia will be paying Paulvey's office a visit and collecting the real pendant.
- 29:18And then then we fade quietly into the wide blue yonder and the we can
- 29:22collect from the insurance. So that's it, Roger, how do you like
- 29:26it? It doesn't sound a bad proposition. There's only one thing I don't
- 29:30understand, and that's at least Saint Crease and her boyfriend Johnny. At least
- 29:37Saint what Who's she? Marcia? You better pour another drink while I tell
- 29:41you. While they sat their drinks, I went through the story from the
- 29:49beginning, how Paulvy hired me to follow Elise, and how she hired me
- 29:55to follow him, with all the details right up to where we are now
- 30:00finished. Rodney looked at Marcia, and they both looked at me. I
- 30:03don't like the sound of that. The sa increased name and a sidekick must
- 30:07be after the pendant too. You'll have to watch out for them, Rodney,
- 30:10don't worry. I'm going to We're all going to what's the situation right
- 30:14now? Well, today's the sixteenth. Paulvey's doing to give the fake pendum
- 30:18to the Baroness tomorrow, the day before the ball. Uh huh, So
- 30:22now we just wait till the day after tomorrow. Yeah. Well, it
- 30:26seems to me that this at least increase around it. It might be a
- 30:30good idea if I went with Marcia when she plays the wheel pendant from Paulby's
- 30:33office. Yeah, it might be at that. I'll think about it and
- 30:37let you know. Fine, now, if it's okay with you, I
- 30:41think I need some sleep. Sure, Oh just one thing. Yeah,
- 30:44I sleep better with a gun under my pillow. Can I have mine back?
- 30:48Sure, I'll even hand it to you. But first, after all,
- 30:53where partners? Now? Huh? The social columns of the papers next
- 31:04morning were full of nothing but the Baroness von Aults on the coming ball.
- 31:07There was no photograph, but they gave the name of the hotels she was
- 31:11staying at. After coffee, I took a ride over to it. I
- 31:15wanted an interview with a baroness. But when I climbed out of the elevator,
- 31:18four quiet looking characters move up to me and one of them did they
- 31:22talking? Yes, I want to speak to the Baroness von Alts. Watch
- 31:26your business. I'm Roger King, a private detective. My business is private
- 31:30and urgent. Sorry, mister King. The Baroness is seeing nobody. I
- 31:33tell you it's we've got our orders. You've heard what they are. But
- 31:37I tell you, please, mister King, don't make a scene. There's
- 31:41only one of you and there are four of us, so I see.
- 31:45But say, who's that that woman who just walked out of that door and
- 31:51crossed the hall? That is the Baroness herself? It is well, in
- 31:57that case, let's forget the whole thing. I'll go something amusing you,
- 32:01uh huh. And it's no good explaining why, except to say that she
- 32:06may be the Baroness von Alts to you, but to me, she's at
- 32:09least Saint Crets. Welcome back. Well that's the type of experience that will
- 32:36make you thankful for a parking ticket. Uh definitely. Roger doesn't tend to
- 32:45joy with the bad join with the bad guys. He's already setting himself up
- 32:52for the double cross. But they finding out the identity that definitely adds a
- 32:59rink on it. I think we're going to be set up for a mad
- 33:01cap part four, so you want to be sure and listen as we wrap
- 33:07up Crime for King, and that will also bring a pause in the Carter
- 33:14Brown stories to continue to feel that these really do get better over time.
- 33:21I think that this one in particular, you know just so much great dialogue,
- 33:25a great mystery, and already so many fine twists, and I have
- 33:30i expectations for part four, So again, be sure and come back.
