- 0:05Speaker 1: It's the Craigway Show with the voice of the Texas
- 0:09Speaker 1: Longhorns in Hall of Vain Broadcasting.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Craig Way just get rolling here on Monday show. Glad
- 0:20Speaker 2: to have you with us. Cameron Parker filling in for Craigway.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Here.
- 0:23Speaker 3: We are up until two up until five pm with
- 0:26Speaker 3: you here on today's show, Media day at the Peach Bowl,
- 0:30Speaker 3: less than forty eight hours away from Texas and Arizona State,
- 0:34Speaker 3: and have to be joined by Craigway now who joins
- 0:37Speaker 3: us live from his hotel room.
- 0:40Speaker 2: I'm guessing in Atlanta, Georgia.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Hold on, we're still we're not getting Craig's voice here,
- 0:46Speaker 3: So let's we'll work on getting Craig.
- 0:51Speaker 2: With us here.
- 0:52Speaker 3: As Craig about to join us live from his hotel
- 0:55Speaker 3: room in Atlanta, Georgia. As Texas takes on Arizona State,
- 0:59Speaker 3: we may have to pivot to the phone line here.
- 1:02Speaker 3: There's always some sort of some sort of technology issues
- 1:07Speaker 3: that we have to encounter at least at some point.
- 1:09Speaker 3: That's how radio live radio works. But we'll work on
- 1:12Speaker 3: getting Craig here on the phone line here in just
- 1:14Speaker 3: a second. As Texas takes on Arizona state he did
- 1:17Speaker 3: visit already with Queen Yours, Queen Yours and Burt Auburn
- 1:21Speaker 3: at some point today, so we'll be able to play
- 1:24Speaker 3: you those conversations as well as here from coach Steve Sarkisian,
- 1:28Speaker 3: Kyle Flood, Michael taff Quin, yours a lot of good
- 1:32Speaker 3: content because at media Day. The cool thing about Media
- 1:35Speaker 3: Day is usually Texas fans just get used to hearing
- 1:39Speaker 3: from Steve's Arkeesian in the same five six seven players,
- 1:44Speaker 3: But at Media Day you can visit with pretty much
- 1:46Speaker 3: anybody you want to be able to visit with, and
- 1:49Speaker 3: that includes guys like Burt Auburn or maybe Jeff Banks,
- 1:53Speaker 3: a special teams coach. And now I believe we do
- 1:56Speaker 3: have Craig Way on the phone line. Mister Way, how
- 1:59Speaker 3: are you well, maybe not, Craig.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Are you able to hear us?
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 2:06Speaker 2: I got it, now there we go, I do.
- 2:11Speaker 1: So you hear me? Okay, now on the phone.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Here you great, here, you're great. Thanks for a Thanks
- 2:17Speaker 2: for being able to pivot with this.
- 2:18Speaker 3: And I was just opening up with the fact that
- 2:20Speaker 3: usually Craig during the season, obviously you hear from Steve
- 2:23Speaker 3: Sarkeesian and you hear from you know, five or six players,
- 2:27Speaker 3: usually rotation of you know, Jatty Baron or Calvin Banks
- 2:30Speaker 3: Outfred Collins, Queen Yours. But the cool thing about media
- 2:32Speaker 3: day at these ball games is that not only do
- 2:36Speaker 3: you hear from Steve Sarkesan and Kenny Dillingham, you also
- 2:39Speaker 3: get to hear from guys like Arch Manning or Byron
- 2:42Speaker 3: Carrington or Jeff Banks, guys who Texas fans in the
- 2:46Speaker 3: media don't get to be able to, don't aren't able
- 2:48Speaker 3: to visit with every single day, But at games like this,
- 2:51Speaker 3: you're able to.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Yeah. Uh and and by the way, yes, I get
- 2:57Speaker 1: read the answer this question. It'll probably be a setting
- 3:00Speaker 1: on your end. But there's some rocking out music going
- 3:04Speaker 1: through right now, so I was having a little bit
- 3:06Speaker 1: of difficulty try to hear it. But I think I
- 3:08Speaker 1: got what you were saying. That music is just blowing
- 3:12Speaker 1: the doors off right now. That's going through. There we go. Now,
- 3:15Speaker 1: we're good, We're all good. You you you press the
- 3:18Speaker 1: magic button, so we're okay. Now. So to your point,
- 3:24Speaker 1: what you were saying is, yes, you can have a
- 3:29Speaker 1: situation where you get to visit with most and really
- 3:34Speaker 1: the vast majority of the players, the student athletes, not
- 3:39Speaker 1: all of them. Obviously, everybody came over. The entire team
- 3:43Speaker 1: came over and was given the tour of the College
- 3:46Speaker 1: Football Hall of tam and all that. But while the
- 3:49Speaker 1: ones who had immediate responsibilities were, you know, getting going in.
- 3:56Speaker 1: This adjacent room is a very large room and had
- 3:58Speaker 1: full size like college football goal post in there, and
- 4:02Speaker 1: it was a good backdrop for it. And of course
- 4:05Speaker 1: I had posted to I had done an Instagram post
- 4:11Speaker 1: where it showed that great wall of helmets when you
- 4:14Speaker 1: first walk in. Every college football helmet, I think Division one,
- 4:19Speaker 1: Division two, Division three, all of them were up there.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Somebody remarked that the Texas helmet was directly above the
- 4:25Speaker 1: one from Emporioas State, which is a Vision two school
- 4:28Speaker 1: in Kansas. I don't know what the rhyme or reason was,
- 4:32Speaker 1: not only for that one, but for all of the helmets.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I'm not sure what the rhymer reason was. It wasn't alphabetical,
- 4:42Speaker 1: but it was very colorful. So all of the student
- 4:46Speaker 1: athletes who were being made available within in that room
- 4:50Speaker 1: and then some of the other ones, you know, Like
- 4:52Speaker 1: I said, the entire team went over, but not every
- 4:56Speaker 1: you know, reserve or walk on or whatever took part
- 5:00Speaker 1: of the actual interviews, but a great many of the
- 5:03Speaker 1: players did. You mentioned Burt Albert, and I sat down
- 5:05Speaker 1: with Bert and had a good visit with him. Also,
- 5:08Speaker 1: I hope you got it. And I also sent you
- 5:10Speaker 1: one with Jade Baron of one on one with Jada
- 5:14Speaker 1: and the quinn Ewers conversation was more of kind of
- 5:17Speaker 1: like what you played in the prior segment. It was
- 5:20Speaker 1: kind of a general overall media gathering around him. Nobody
- 5:25Speaker 1: was actually getting any one on ones with him because
- 5:27Speaker 1: he was in such high demand and they had him all,
- 5:30Speaker 1: you know, seated at tables. It was like a kind
- 5:33Speaker 1: of a smaller version of Super Bowl Media Day. And
- 5:37Speaker 1: I've covered some Super Bowl media days and that's just
- 5:39Speaker 1: craziness where you're getting these platforms where these guys are up.
- 5:43Speaker 1: But everybody was kind of situating, including Sark. They were
- 5:46Speaker 1: all taking part in it, and and it was it
- 5:50Speaker 1: was very orderly and very well run, and you just
- 5:53Speaker 1: you had to kind of pick your spots to do
- 5:56Speaker 1: a one on one otherwise you're sharing the time with
- 5:58Speaker 1: the other me gathered there who wanted to get some SoundBite.
- 6:03Speaker 1: So I was able to get a sit down with
- 6:06Speaker 1: Jaday Baron and one also with Bert Auburn quint Yours
- 6:11Speaker 1: was kind of being shared by everybody.
- 6:14Speaker 3: And we'll make sure they get to those interviews at
- 6:15Speaker 3: some point throughout the show. Some great audio not just
- 6:19Speaker 3: from you, Craig, but also that's been posted on the
- 6:21Speaker 3: media website and just all over Twitter from both teams. Now,
- 6:25Speaker 3: you mentioned the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta,
- 6:28Speaker 3: and I believe I went there maybe twenty fifteen twenty sixteen,
- 6:33Speaker 3: and there's a part in the Hall of Fame. There's
- 6:36Speaker 3: an exhibit maybe a section where you can kick. I
- 6:39Speaker 3: think it's like a thirty five yard field goal. I'm curious,
- 6:42Speaker 3: Craig Waite, is that still there? Did you attempt it?
- 6:46Speaker 3: And could you also maybe kick for Texas on Wednesday?
- 6:50Speaker 1: Yes? No, and no, And the reason why is quite simple. Cameron.
- 6:55Speaker 1: You mentioned the thirty five yard thing. That's the room
- 6:59Speaker 1: where they had all the media gathered where it was that,
- 7:02Speaker 1: like I said, there was a full size goal posts here,
- 7:06Speaker 1: so I'm sure it's the exact same room because I
- 7:10Speaker 1: didn't see it in any other part. It's the one
- 7:12Speaker 1: where you've got all the field turf down there, and
- 7:15Speaker 1: they've got full sized goal posts in there, So if
- 7:18Speaker 1: you went all the way to the back of the room, yeah,
- 7:20Speaker 1: it'd be a thirty five yarder. But it wasn't dressed
- 7:25Speaker 1: up for that. It was it was set up for
- 7:27Speaker 1: all of the media interviews. They had tables and chairs
- 7:30Speaker 1: and platforms and things like that in there.
- 7:32Speaker 3: I'm proud to say that I am one for one
- 7:34Speaker 3: when attempting the thirty five yardfield goal at the College
- 7:37Speaker 3: Football Hall of Fame.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Not saying.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Down the middle, down the medal, you know, shades of
- 7:43Speaker 2: Justin Tucker.
- 7:44Speaker 3: You know, maybe maybe I do share the same first
- 7:47Speaker 3: name as Cameron Dicker, who I believe maybe a pro bowler. Okay,
- 7:51Speaker 3: this Texas Arizona State game, Craig, what are your general
- 7:54Speaker 3: thoughts going into it and what's the what's the level
- 7:57Speaker 3: confidence you're picking up from this Texas team.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Well, first of all, let me start with the comments
- 8:05Speaker 1: that you aired from Sam Levitt, and I'm right there
- 8:08Speaker 1: with you, Cam. I didn't see anything wrong with what
- 8:12Speaker 1: he said. If you pay close attention to what he's saying.
- 8:16Speaker 1: He said, I'm out to prove that I'm the best
- 8:19Speaker 1: quarterback in this game. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
- 8:23Speaker 1: He didn't walk in there saying I am the best
- 8:26Speaker 1: quarterback in this game. He said, I'm out to prove it. Now.
- 8:29Speaker 1: One thing I think is a little bit silly, but
- 8:31Speaker 1: this is the way of both pro and college sports.
- 8:35Speaker 1: The whole disrespecting thing where he said, people have been
- 8:38Speaker 1: counting me out all year. Who who's been counting out?
- 8:41Speaker 1: He's had a great year. And I know he was
- 8:44Speaker 1: a transfer from Michigan State, and maybe at first there
- 8:48Speaker 1: was some you might say, some oh, I don't know,
- 8:54Speaker 1: speculation or probably folks weren't that optimism, some pessimism about
- 9:00Speaker 1: what he'd been able to do. But I think we
- 9:02Speaker 1: saw very early in the season when he was capable
- 9:04Speaker 1: of doing. I know I saw it personally when I
- 9:06Speaker 1: was at the game when they played at Texas State
- 9:09Speaker 1: in a long touchdown running that game. And you know,
- 9:13Speaker 1: the other day, of course, we had my friend Tim
- 9:15Speaker 1: Healy on the show The play by Playboys of the
- 9:18Speaker 1: Sun Devils, and he and I were chatting today about
- 9:22Speaker 1: Sam Levitt's progression and how far he's come. And this
- 9:26Speaker 1: is a guy that not much was expected of in
- 9:29Speaker 1: the minds of some. But as the season went on,
- 9:32Speaker 1: people could tell that he was really, really good. So
- 9:35Speaker 1: the whole thing about I've been counted out all season,
- 9:38Speaker 1: I'm like, well, most of the people who are following
- 9:40Speaker 1: the game are not counting you out. I know Sark
- 9:42Speaker 1: is not counting you out. I know this long, warm
- 9:44Speaker 1: defense is not counting you out. And we heard Quinn
- 9:47Speaker 1: talk about him as well. He's had a really fine season.
- 9:50Speaker 1: And when you have a running back like Cam'skataboo, it's
- 9:54Speaker 1: going to make you better. He also had Jordan Tyson
- 9:56Speaker 1: until he got injured, who was a tremendous receiver, and
- 9:59Speaker 1: he still got quality receivers. So they're going to present
- 10:02Speaker 1: the challenge. Sure they will have Texas face better offenses,
- 10:07Speaker 1: Yes they have this year, but they haven't faced a
- 10:10Speaker 1: better running back than what they're going to see from Skataboo.
- 10:14Speaker 1: I've talked about this at length all season long. I've
- 10:16Speaker 1: thought of he was something special. I saw that last
- 10:18Speaker 1: year in him. But he's he runs tough, he runs hard,
- 10:21Speaker 1: but he can catch the ball out of the backfield,
- 10:23Speaker 1: so he's multi faceted. And so yes, the Longhorns will
- 10:27Speaker 1: try to aim to slow him down and get pressure
- 10:30Speaker 1: in on eleven and if they can do that, I
- 10:32Speaker 1: think the defense can be successful. On the offensive side,
- 10:36Speaker 1: I think the Longhorns know that what they've been doing
- 10:40Speaker 1: of late, you'll run to win thing. If you can
- 10:43Speaker 1: run the ball well with effectiveness, you have a chance
- 10:45Speaker 1: to win. But you know they're going up against a
- 10:49Speaker 1: tough rushing defense. They led the Big twelve and rushing
- 10:52Speaker 1: events twenty seventh in the nation. That's you know, that's
- 10:56Speaker 1: respectable against the run. So they've been a little a
- 11:00Speaker 1: little more susceptible than the past or seventieth in the
- 11:03Speaker 1: nation against the past, and I do think that the
- 11:07Speaker 1: Longhorns will be able to throw the ball against Arizona State.
- 11:13Speaker 1: I think Isaiah Bond has been feeling better and better.
- 11:15Speaker 1: We're going to find out about Cam Williams whether he
- 11:17Speaker 1: can go or not. He's still banged up. But I
- 11:19Speaker 1: think everybody else is going to be good to go.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Kelvin Nanks is definitely going to be good to go.
- 11:23Speaker 1: So we'll find out about those other guys what their
- 11:26Speaker 1: situation is tomorrow, probably in the final news conference, although
- 11:29Speaker 1: Sark may tell us that maybe game time decision. Both
- 11:33Speaker 1: for Cam Williams and for Isaiah Bon. We'll find out,
- 11:36Speaker 1: but I think they can move the ball on them
- 11:37Speaker 1: as well.
- 11:38Speaker 3: Last thing for you, Craig before we let you go,
- 11:40Speaker 3: what's your schedule like this week? Because and even today
- 11:43Speaker 3: and tomorrow the media day, what's looked like for you
- 11:47Speaker 3: tomorrow and then obviously Wednesday game day before you travel
- 11:50Speaker 3: to Norman and then from Norman you travel back home
- 11:52Speaker 3: and then to College station on Saturday.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a little busy in it. We have the
- 12:00Speaker 1: we have this time of year. I always refer to
- 12:01Speaker 1: it as the overlap, and believe it or not, the
- 12:04Speaker 1: busier overlap session is usually starts in late February when
- 12:09Speaker 1: baseball starts and you've got baseball and men's and women's
- 12:12Speaker 1: basketball because there are multiple games, and so for about
- 12:16Speaker 1: six weeks that goes on. This depending on how successful
- 12:20Speaker 1: a long one football team is, he could go on
- 12:22Speaker 1: another three or four weeks. You know, we'll see. But
- 12:26Speaker 1: with regard to this week, obviously to tomorrow morning, I'll
- 12:31Speaker 1: be down there for the final head coaches news conference,
- 12:36Speaker 1: so it'll be that I'll go out to the stadium
- 12:39Speaker 1: tomorrow afternoon when the setup is going on. I'll have
- 12:42Speaker 1: some social media things on that out to the stadium.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Of course, the game is at noon Simple time and
- 12:51Speaker 1: one o'clock Eastern time, but I'll be at the stadium early.
- 12:54Speaker 1: We'll do that, and then as soon as we sign
- 12:56Speaker 1: off there it's say one o'clock one can to be
- 12:59Speaker 1: exact Eastern time kick I have an eight fifteen flight
- 13:05Speaker 1: Eastern time, so I'm going to be beating a hasty
- 13:08Speaker 1: retreat to the Atlanta Jackson the Hartsfield International Airport after
- 13:14Speaker 1: the game to catch a flight out of Atlanta through
- 13:18Speaker 1: DFW and get up to Oklahoma City late late on
- 13:21Speaker 1: Wednesday night. Catches women open SEC play against an outstanding
- 13:26Speaker 1: Oklahoma team on Thursday night at the Lloyd Nobles Center,
- 13:30Speaker 1: and then I'll be out on Friday as I make
- 13:33Speaker 1: my way back down in the head over the college station.
- 13:36Speaker 1: And then Friday night, I mean Saturday night, We've got
- 13:39Speaker 1: the SEC opener for the Longhorns playing at ried Arena,
- 13:43Speaker 1: so it's it's and then come back on Sunday and
- 13:46Speaker 1: have the home opener for the women against Arkansas. So yeah,
- 13:49Speaker 1: it'll be busy the rest of this week, and as
- 13:51Speaker 1: long as the long Ward football team is continuing to advance,
- 13:55Speaker 1: it'll stay busy and I'm perfectly fine with that. You know.
- 13:59Speaker 3: Hearing you just answered that question, Craig, makes me wonder
- 14:01Speaker 3: if maybe we should hire you a travel secretary, you know,
- 14:04Speaker 3: maybe at George Casanza assistant to the traveling secretary. Because
- 14:08Speaker 3: your schedule, I do not know how you keep up
- 14:10Speaker 3: with it.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Well, it's a combination of a couple of things. I mean,
- 14:15Speaker 1: you know, the beauty of having football and men's and
- 14:19Speaker 1: women's basketball schedules. You can see on the schedules where
- 14:23Speaker 1: those games are and at what times those games are,
- 14:25Speaker 1: so all you have to do is kind of work
- 14:26Speaker 1: around at the necessary stuff. Also, the University of Texas
- 14:29Speaker 1: as an outstanding travel agent that they work with and
- 14:33Speaker 1: they try to help me some on things that I
- 14:35Speaker 1: have to set up. So it all works out really,
- 14:38Speaker 1: really well, and it probably needs to in order to
- 14:41Speaker 1: do these many assignments, these many games. I mean, we
- 14:44Speaker 1: come off a week there before Christmas, We're at the
- 14:47Speaker 1: six high school football state championship games, and the Texas
- 14:51Speaker 1: Clemson game and a women's basketball game. So it was
- 14:53Speaker 1: a busy time to do and it remains a busy time.
- 14:57Speaker 1: But like I said, I liked it. I like it.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I love being able to call games. I love being
- 15:02Speaker 1: able to get to the travel makes it interesting. I
- 15:05Speaker 1: had to really tight connection last night at DFW because
- 15:09Speaker 1: the flight from Austin was late getting in, but I
- 15:12Speaker 1: got in before they closed the door behind me. And
- 15:14Speaker 1: so there you go. You go on final thing here Cam,
- 15:19Speaker 1: Los Angeles Rams n WE Division Camp. They had to
- 15:25Speaker 1: have all kinds of weird stuff happened, and it did
- 15:28Speaker 1: in truth really that the teams that they needed to
- 15:32Speaker 1: win so they could have that strength of victory thing
- 15:34Speaker 1: were all favored to win their games, but until they
- 15:37Speaker 1: win them, you don't know. And it's like a parlay, right,
- 15:40Speaker 1: So they had they had to have the Bengals win,
- 15:43Speaker 1: They had to have the Bills win, they had to
- 15:45Speaker 1: have the Vikings win, and they had to have the
- 15:49Speaker 1: Commanders win. And if one of those teams had fallen,
- 15:51Speaker 1: they would have needed the forty nine ers to beat
- 15:53Speaker 1: the Lions, and I don't see that happening. But that
- 15:56Speaker 1: coupled with that hold on for Dear Life win over Arizona,
- 15:59Speaker 1: So yeah, they got to win their NFC West Hamps.
- 16:02Speaker 1: It's gonna be interesting to see how the seed in
- 16:04Speaker 1: goes CAM, because if Washington wins out they would hold
- 16:09Speaker 1: the tiebreaker on Green Bay. If the Rams wide up
- 16:12Speaker 1: as a three seed, I'm gonna tell you, as good
- 16:15Speaker 1: as season as Jane Daniels has had, I'd rather the
- 16:17Speaker 1: Rams face the Commanders than to face the Packers in
- 16:19Speaker 1: the first round. We've already, you know, seeing that movie.
- 16:22Speaker 1: The Packers won in La earlier this year, so did
- 16:25Speaker 1: the Viking so well. The Rams beat the Bikings, but
- 16:28Speaker 1: they've lost to the Lions, so they've seen those NFC
- 16:31Speaker 1: nor teams. I'd mean, I'd feel much better about it
- 16:34Speaker 1: if they were going up against the NFC East team.
- 16:36Speaker 3: And the Pack nearly came back against Minnesota last night
- 16:39Speaker 3: but could not complete the comeback, losing twenty seven to
- 16:42Speaker 3: twenty five.
- 16:42Speaker 2: But congrats to the Rams and Craig.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Congrats the Cowboys for losing by forty points to the
- 16:47Speaker 3: Philadelphia Eagles.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Is a great day for our favorite teams.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Yesterday you got to you exaggerate, you exaggerated they only
- 16:54Speaker 1: lost by thirty four, They lost forty one to seven.
- 16:57Speaker 1: So hey, listen, I need to Commanders to meet the
- 17:00Speaker 1: Cowboys this week in our London. I need them to
- 17:03Speaker 1: be I need them to have nothing against the Cowboys,
- 17:06Speaker 1: but I as a RAMS band and need the Commanders
- 17:08Speaker 1: to win to lock up the sixth Seeds and the
- 17:10Speaker 1: Rams to get the three seed. Like I said, I'd
- 17:13Speaker 1: rather than face for Washington than the face Green Bay.
- 17:16Speaker 3: I'll think you'll get your wish. I believe you'll get
- 17:18Speaker 3: your wish come next Sunday. But Craig, I'll let you go.
- 17:21Speaker 3: I know you got things to get to. I look
- 17:23Speaker 3: forward to visiting, visiting with you and Roger from the
- 17:25Speaker 3: booth on Wednesday, and I'm guessing the next time I'll
- 17:28Speaker 3: see you will be my first time in college station
- 17:31Speaker 3: attending a Texas A and M basketball game, So look
- 17:33Speaker 3: forward to it.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Yeah, that's going to be a special experience for you,
