- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:05Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. After ten yard line, second and eight three
- 0:08Speaker 1: wide receivers now in motion has Puppas left to right,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Julius Jones a single setback Matt pumpfecks looking at the
- 0:14Speaker 1: goal line, he throws it into the end zone. Touchdown,
- 0:17Speaker 1: Saint Hawks. It's Michael Bumpas with a diving catch in
- 0:21Speaker 1: the end zone. Our ten yard touchdown reception for Pumpas,
- 0:25Speaker 1: and the kid out of Washington State has found himself
- 0:28Speaker 1: a place on this team. Powered by Seahawks dot Com. Yes, yes,
- 0:34Speaker 1: you're listening to Hawk Talk. I am Michael Bumpas along
- 0:36Speaker 1: with Nasa Cholby. Week five, the Hawks have a chance
- 0:39Speaker 1: to do something they've never done in franchise history, which
- 0:42Speaker 1: is to go five and oh. But to do that,
- 0:45Speaker 1: they got to get through the vikings. But before we
- 0:47Speaker 1: dive into them, let's hit up Nass with the injury updates.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Thanks bump Well, there is a lot of good news
- 0:52Speaker 1: on the injury front. The Seahawks came out of the
- 0:54Speaker 1: game against the Miami Dolphins relatively healthy, with essentially no
- 0:57Speaker 1: new injuries. Head coach pet Carroll did, however, give with
- 1:00Speaker 1: some much needed updates on Nico Thorpe, Jordan Brooks, Quentin Dunbar,
- 1:04Speaker 1: and Jamal Adams. Um, well, let me start Nic. Nico's
- 1:08Speaker 1: got he's got the athletic arny kind of symptoms coming
- 1:11Speaker 1: right now. We got to see what he needs to
- 1:13Speaker 1: get right. He's been working real hard to get back
- 1:15Speaker 1: and he just can't get going. Often, when when you
- 1:18Speaker 1: have that injury, you know, you feel okay, you don't hurt,
- 1:20Speaker 1: but you just can't quite stride and go, and that's
- 1:23Speaker 1: kind of where he is. He's worked hard to get
- 1:25Speaker 1: to that point, and so now we know, so we
- 1:26Speaker 1: gotta try to get him fixed up and whatever we
- 1:28Speaker 1: can do. I'm not sure what the course will be,
- 1:31Speaker 1: but we're open to everything for him. He asked about
- 1:34Speaker 1: Jordan Brooks. Um, Jordan's still he's still working on coming back.
- 1:38Speaker 1: He's not able to move around yet, so it's gonna
- 1:41Speaker 1: be hard for him to get back this week. Did
- 1:43Speaker 1: you mention somebody else too? Quinn's is went through the
- 1:46Speaker 1: walk through today. He'll practice tomorrow m and we'll see
- 1:50Speaker 1: how that how that fits for him coming back. He's
- 1:53Speaker 1: determined to try to get back for this ball game,
- 1:55Speaker 1: so we'll see what happens there. Jamal is still going
- 1:58Speaker 1: to be another week away. Unfortunately, he's not gonna make
- 2:00Speaker 1: a back. There was also some roster movement. It's a
- 2:02Speaker 1: Seahawks signed former first team All Pro Damon Snacks Harrison
- 2:05Speaker 1: to the Seahawks practice squad. The Seahawks also made an
- 2:08Speaker 1: addition to their fifty three man rosters, signing defensive end
- 2:11Speaker 1: Jonathan Bullard cornerback Nico Thorpe, who missed the past two
- 2:14Speaker 1: games with a hip injury. As you heard from the coach,
- 2:17Speaker 1: he was now placed officially on injured reserve. In addition
- 2:21Speaker 1: to Harrison, the Seahawks have also signed quarterback DeMarcus Acy
- 2:25Speaker 1: as well as linebacker Michael Divinity to the practice squad
- 2:28Speaker 1: and lastly, Bump Before we get going, make sure to
- 2:30Speaker 1: join us each and every Thursday from noon to two.
- 2:33Speaker 1: It's The Huddle, hosted by Tom Jake and Stacy along
- 2:36Speaker 1: with Seahawks color analyst Dave Wyman. It's a chance to
- 2:38Speaker 1: hear directly from the Seahawks players as they prepare for Sunday.
- 2:41Speaker 1: In preview the game ahead with the voice of the Seahawks,
- 2:44Speaker 1: Steve Rabel and our guy Ray Roberts Bump. As you mentioned,
- 2:48Speaker 1: the Minnesota Vikings are up next. Who's who's next? Who's next?
- 2:59Speaker 1: I'll tell you who was next. It's the Minnesota Vikings.
- 3:01Speaker 1: They are one in three. They go have losses to
- 3:03Speaker 1: the Packers, good football team, the Colts, this decent football team,
- 3:07Speaker 1: and the Titans, but they beat Houston last week. Don't
- 3:11Speaker 1: let the record fool your folks. I'm looking at this film.
- 3:14Speaker 1: These guys can play some football. Offensively. They are ranked
- 3:18Speaker 1: twenty second in the NFL rush offense, the ranked fifth.
- 3:22Speaker 1: I think that's where they're gonna pose the most challenged well,
- 3:25Speaker 1: I can't even say the most pass game is good too.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I know they're not a top ten pass team, but
- 3:29Speaker 1: they still have Adam Feeling. They still have Justin Jefferson.
- 3:32Speaker 1: But Dalvin Cook is a guy who makes this team go,
- 3:35Speaker 1: no question about it. What they want to do bombcause
- 3:36Speaker 1: they want to run the football. Everything they do is
- 3:38Speaker 1: predicated off of running the ball. We'll getting all the
- 3:41Speaker 1: key matchups for the Vikings. But that's the thing if
- 3:44Speaker 1: you just look at this head to head comparison we're
- 3:46Speaker 1: looking at, don't sleep on this team because you say,
- 3:48Speaker 1: twenty second offense in the league, pass game twenty eighth,
- 3:52Speaker 1: tied for fourteenth. Defensively, they don't look great. They're twenty
- 3:56Speaker 1: ninth in total defense, twenty ninth and passive and twenty
- 4:00Speaker 1: six and points aloud. I mean they look average. They
- 4:03Speaker 1: look average on paper. But let me tell you something.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Something they do, like you mentioned, is run the football.
- 4:07Speaker 1: They're the fifteam in the league at rushing the ball
- 4:09Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty yards per game. But it's because
- 4:10Speaker 1: of Dalvin Cook. Dalvin Cook is an incredibly special athlete,
- 4:14Speaker 1: special player, incredibly explosive, and he's to keep the game.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Everything that he gets done, it sets up their offense.
- 4:21Speaker 1: They want to run the ball, sets up all their
- 4:23Speaker 1: play acts and stuff. So I know that it'll look
- 4:25Speaker 1: great in all the statistical categories. But these guys can
- 4:28Speaker 1: play ball, so don't underestimate them. Yeah, well, you know
- 4:33Speaker 1: the last one. This is the third year in a
- 4:34Speaker 1: row the Hawks are playing the Vikings. Am I correct
- 4:37Speaker 1: second or third? And I feel like every time we
- 4:42Speaker 1: play these guys, everyone's sleeping on them. And then I
- 4:46Speaker 1: turn on the film and I'm like, hold up, wait
- 4:48Speaker 1: a minute. Offensively, they have weapons everywhere, even at the
- 4:52Speaker 1: tight ends. Spite even though Rudolph isn't having a season
- 4:54Speaker 1: that we're used to seeing, even at the quarterback spot,
- 4:57Speaker 1: even though Kirk Cousin doesn't win a lot of big games,
- 5:00Speaker 1: they still got talent on the defensive side. They got
- 5:03Speaker 1: Kendricks to have unique. They have some guys. But let's
- 5:05Speaker 1: talk about last week. Last week they beat the Texans.
- 5:09Speaker 1: They were up thirty one to sixteen with ten minutes
- 5:11Speaker 1: left in the fourth. The Texans closed the gap to
- 5:14Speaker 1: thirty one to twenty three and drove seventy one yards
- 5:16Speaker 1: down the field, got to the one and couldn't get
- 5:19Speaker 1: it done. You know who. That reminds me of nash
- 5:22Speaker 1: the Seahawks versus the eight New England Patriots. Same situation.
- 5:27Speaker 1: So we're looking at these teams and we're like, okay,
- 5:28Speaker 1: they're similar. They're even similar on how they've won a
- 5:32Speaker 1: couple of ball games. Well one ball game when it
- 5:34Speaker 1: comes to the Vikings. But that last possession Texans down
- 5:37Speaker 1: on the one yard line, that was some sloppy football
- 5:39Speaker 1: down there. It was tough. Man. They get first seen
- 5:41Speaker 1: goal from the one, You think, okay, they're gonna tie
- 5:43Speaker 1: this up now, you're thinking, what are they gonna do
- 5:45Speaker 1: for their two point conversion? They get stoned on second
- 5:47Speaker 1: and goal. Then on third and goal, which probably the
- 5:50Speaker 1: biggest play of the game, they run a little option
- 5:51Speaker 1: Rounte Watson tries to pitch over to Johnson. Johnson fumbles,
- 5:55Speaker 1: the ball get stuck. Now you're the ball's back at
- 5:57Speaker 1: the five yard line, and it set up this play
- 6:00Speaker 1: a fourth and goal with the game on the line,
- 6:02Speaker 1: fourth and goal from the five for Houston. Minnesota leads
- 6:05Speaker 1: by h Watson takes the snap, goes on a five
- 6:09Speaker 1: step drop to the end zone, and it's caught by
- 6:12Speaker 1: Will Fuller on one hand to catch. Are you kidding me? Touchdown? Texans.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Will Fuller tap the ball to himself with his left
- 6:20Speaker 1: hand and the Texans are a two point conversion from
- 6:24Speaker 1: tying the game. Well done, will Fuller. Well they're gonna
- 6:28Speaker 1: review all scores. If the runner went to the ground,
- 6:30Speaker 1: the ball hit the ground and moved, Thank you for
- 6:32Speaker 1: an incomplete path. Thank you, first down Minnesota the five
- 6:36Speaker 1: yard line. Ball game. Thirty one twenty three bikes are
- 6:40Speaker 1: in the win column. He said, ball game. This is
- 6:43Speaker 1: a pull game game. All that has to hurt Heartbreak Hotel.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson was moving the ball. That was a beautiful
- 6:52Speaker 1: last drive. I went back and I looked at him.
- 6:53Speaker 1: They were moving the ball, getting it done. David Johnson
- 6:56Speaker 1: just looked old right there for some reason that pitch
- 6:59Speaker 1: he drops it and then just the aftermath of him
- 7:01Speaker 1: sitting there on his knees with his hands, his head
- 7:04Speaker 1: in his hands, like I felt bad for David Johnson
- 7:07Speaker 1: that play. Yeah, it's tough, man, because David Johnson just
- 7:09Speaker 1: a couple of years ago with the Cardinals was just
- 7:11Speaker 1: balling out. Was a guy, he's a pro bowler, He's
- 7:13Speaker 1: still got it. That's way spent all that money. So yeah,
- 7:15Speaker 1: definitely tough for him to see there. But you look
- 7:17Speaker 1: at the Vikings bump Um Kirk Cousins, he didn't do
- 7:20Speaker 1: anything or shattering. We're definitely gonna talk a lot more
- 7:22Speaker 1: about him. But he was sixteen to twenty two, two
- 7:24Speaker 1: hundred and sixty yards and the touchdown. It was the
- 7:27Speaker 1: Dalvin Cook show man, That's what it was. Yep. Dec
- 7:30Speaker 1: Twenty seven carres for one hundred and thirty yards and
- 7:32Speaker 1: two touchdowns and just guys elusive, you better, you better,
- 7:36Speaker 1: gang tackle, you need e Levin has to the fullball
- 7:38Speaker 1: with this dude, because he will make guys miss. You
- 7:40Speaker 1: cannot forgive him. Adam Delan did his thing with eight
- 7:42Speaker 1: receptions for one hundred and fourteen yards one touchdown, and
- 7:45Speaker 1: the rookie man. There's a lot of good rookie receivers
- 7:48Speaker 1: out there, justin Jefferson, the kid from LSU four receptions,
- 7:51Speaker 1: one hundred and three yards. Needless to say, these guys
- 7:54Speaker 1: can do it on the ground and they can do
- 7:56Speaker 1: it in the air. But let's go back in time
- 8:00Speaker 1: and learn a little bit about the Seahawks versus Vikings.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Know your history, no your history. So the history between
- 8:08Speaker 1: the Seahawks and the Vikings, it seems like they play
- 8:10Speaker 1: each other every year. The Seahawks lead the all time
- 8:12Speaker 1: regular season series eleven to five. Their last meeting was
- 8:16Speaker 1: last year in primetime under the lights of Monday Night Football,
- 8:19Speaker 1: where the Seahawks won thirty seven to thirty thanks to
- 8:23Speaker 1: a little nice play from Russell Wilson to Demo swag
- 8:26Speaker 1: Penny in the backfield Medcalf far side Wine Russer's got time,
- 8:31Speaker 1: He's got David more wide open. I can get fifty
- 8:34Speaker 1: ten five touchdown Seahawks from sixty yards. Rush looked up,
- 8:43Speaker 1: saw David Moore running right past Savior Roads and said,
- 8:47Speaker 1: here you go. Serves it up on a platter, and
- 8:50Speaker 1: the Seahawks are on top twenty six to seventeen, and
- 8:55Speaker 1: they're doing the hula in the end zone the Seahawks receivers. Wow,
- 9:00Speaker 1: what a big play for Seattle. Now, Bump Steve Rays,
- 9:04Speaker 1: you know, he is dego. He's the best play by
- 9:06Speaker 1: the play announcer in all the land. And you know,
- 9:09Speaker 1: when you're up in the booth, you're kind of far
- 9:11Speaker 1: away from the field. You know, it's tough to see
- 9:13Speaker 1: what's going on sometimes with these celebrations. Now they weren't
- 9:16Speaker 1: doing the hula. It was a nice little little tribute
- 9:18Speaker 1: to New Addition, you know, because if it isn't love,
- 9:22Speaker 1: why do this way? Why does she stayed on my
- 9:29Speaker 1: something tells me back in the eighties, Rays wasn't listening
- 9:34Speaker 1: on New Edition. You know, you know, you never wasn't
- 9:36Speaker 1: listening to New Edition. It was a little something all
- 9:39Speaker 1: good though, but bum, tell me listen to this though.
- 9:42Speaker 1: So last year the Seahawks were all about the touchdown dances, Bump,
- 9:45Speaker 1: they were all about and the receivers were on point. Man,
- 9:48Speaker 1: they're not doing them this year. Do you miss him? Yeah?
- 9:51Speaker 1: I miss him? Of course I do that. I honestly.
- 9:54Speaker 1: The first game they got into the endzone, I'm like, okay,
- 9:56Speaker 1: here it comes. Because now they have a reputation, they
- 9:58Speaker 1: killed the game. I think there was like at ESPN
- 10:00Speaker 1: Award to where like the best team dances and the
- 10:03Speaker 1: Hawks want it because of the receivers. You know, receivers,
- 10:06Speaker 1: we like the spotlight. We're more of the the average
- 10:09Speaker 1: size man, so we could move a little bit. I
- 10:11Speaker 1: definitely miss them. Why aren't we seeing them now? Well
- 10:15Speaker 1: that's another thing. So they did a little research. So
- 10:17Speaker 1: Tyler Lockett was miked up against the Cowboys two weeks
- 10:20Speaker 1: ago and he had a little conversation with Quandre Dicks,
- 10:23Speaker 1: who asked them why they're not doing these coordinated dances anymore.
- 10:29Speaker 1: I don't know right now, bro, We've just been trying
- 10:32Speaker 1: to put the fear and people makes people, make them
- 10:36Speaker 1: lose that confidence. So Quandre still wants to be dancing
- 10:42Speaker 1: on them, Tyler, so making them lose their confidence. Here's
- 10:45Speaker 1: the deal. I miss them definitely. I think the whole
- 10:47Speaker 1: world misses him. But hey, whatever, they're doing. Bump is working.
- 10:51Speaker 1: So if they're putting the fear of people by just
- 10:53Speaker 1: bossing them up and scoring touchdowns, I'll take that. I
- 10:56Speaker 1: ain't mad at that. You know, He's like, hey, no more,
- 10:57Speaker 1: no more funny games. It's real out here now. You
- 11:00Speaker 1: know we're here. We're here to take life out the defense,
- 11:02Speaker 1: which I get, But add insults and injury rands on them?
- 11:06Speaker 1: Why why you're taking the soul out of them? But
- 11:09Speaker 1: that approach is working. So if it ain't broke, don't
- 11:12Speaker 1: fix it. I'm not touching that, Tyler. If y'all want
- 11:15Speaker 1: to keep a professional, shake hands, get to the sideline,
- 11:18Speaker 1: I'm all about that. So the Seahawks have won five
- 11:22Speaker 1: straight in the matchup against the Vikings. Um haven't won
- 11:25Speaker 1: the Vikings haven't won the Seattleson's two thousand and six.
- 11:28Speaker 1: So let's keep that thing going. Now we've talked about
- 11:30Speaker 1: the Vikings, we talked about the Seattle Seahawks. What is
- 11:33Speaker 1: going on in the NFC West? Have the Seahawks or
- 11:41Speaker 1: the NFC West champs? Again? What's the word in the West?
- 11:46Speaker 1: On hot talk? What's the word bump? Well, I'll tell
- 11:50Speaker 1: you the word Seahawks four and oh leading NFC West,
- 11:53Speaker 1: followed by the Los Angeles Rams at three and one,
- 11:56Speaker 1: Arizona Cardinals at two and two, in the San Francisco
- 11:59Speaker 1: forty nine Ers at two and two. So it was
- 12:02Speaker 1: definitely a good week in Week four for the Seahawks.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Forty nine Ers Cardinals both lose while the Rams improved
- 12:07Speaker 1: a three and one. Now bump. We've been talking about
- 12:10Speaker 1: the nine Ers every week in this segment, looks like
- 12:12Speaker 1: the injury bug finally caught up with them as they
- 12:14Speaker 1: dropped a close game to the Eagles in primetime. Yes,
- 12:18Speaker 1: they did. Ziggy Ziggy. He was once a Seahawk with
- 12:23Speaker 1: high expectations. I feel bad for this man. Gets signed
- 12:27Speaker 1: by the forty nine ers, gets Andrew looks like his
- 12:30Speaker 1: season is done. I believe it is. Season is done.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Jimmy g the quarterback position, He's got a couple of weeks.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Nick Mollins was in the game, was actually playing all
- 12:39Speaker 1: right until the fourth quarter. How do you bench? That?
- 12:42Speaker 1: Baffles me? You bench your quarterback in the fourth quarter.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I get you through a couple of picks, but at
- 12:47Speaker 1: that point it's like, all right, let's just ride it out. Yeah,
- 12:50Speaker 1: it's weird to go to the CJ. Bethard, who's been cold,
- 12:53Speaker 1: hasn't thrown him pass for three quarters and pop him
- 12:55Speaker 1: off the bench. It's not like he threw ten picks.
- 12:57Speaker 1: It's not like he was out there turning ball. I
- 13:00Speaker 1: mean he was eighteen to twenty six two hundred yards
- 13:02Speaker 1: two picks. Not great stats, but yeah, I'm with you
- 13:04Speaker 1: on that. I thought it was I thought it was weird,
- 13:06Speaker 1: and it didn't get much better for Bathrood once he
- 13:08Speaker 1: got in there. You know who looked like a bad
- 13:10Speaker 1: man at George killed him? Man, fifteen targets, fifteen recepts
- 13:13Speaker 1: is one hundred and eighty five yards. Weren't you just injured, sir?
- 13:16Speaker 1: That's what I said. I can't him off the couch
- 13:18Speaker 1: like this. Goodness gracious that. Say what you want about
- 13:22Speaker 1: the Niners. They still have the best tight in the league.
- 13:25Speaker 1: And honestly, yeah, we have some good tight ends here
- 13:26Speaker 1: where the Seahawks. But George Kittle is a different beast man.
- 13:29Speaker 1: He's a different breed one hundred and eighth yards of
- 13:31Speaker 1: the tight end position, and you can't get him down.
- 13:33Speaker 1: It's the yak and then he he'll kill you in
- 13:34Speaker 1: the run game. Yeah, George Kittle. I'll give credit to word,
- 13:38Speaker 1: credits to man. That dude is a bad man. Best
- 13:40Speaker 1: tight end of the game. All right, let's go to La.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Now the Rams, they are three and one. They're looking okay.
- 13:47Speaker 1: But forget the forget the record, forget the stats. Jalen
- 13:51Speaker 1: Ramsey and Golden Tail. Oh, we we all know Golden
- 13:56Speaker 1: Tail likes to run that mouth. Jalen Ramsey likes to
- 13:59Speaker 1: run that mouth. Now you put family business into the
- 14:02Speaker 1: mix with Jalen Dayton, Golden Tay's sister, Golden feels disrespected
- 14:07Speaker 1: now Jaalen got the best of Golden and only reason
- 14:10Speaker 1: why he did was because Golden Tape plays offense like
- 14:13Speaker 1: you can't really deliver a blow unless you're blocking somebody
- 14:16Speaker 1: when you're playing offense, Jayleen, I mean, I was a
- 14:18Speaker 1: form tackle, lifted them up, grab cloth, drove him into
- 14:22Speaker 1: the ground. Not a good look. But we're receivers. What
- 14:26Speaker 1: can we really do to defend ourselves out there during
- 14:28Speaker 1: the play? I mean, during the play, it's tough unless
- 14:30Speaker 1: you have some kind of a crack where he doesn't
- 14:31Speaker 1: see it coming. But he's out there on an island
- 14:33Speaker 1: by himself, and honestly, I mean, the fight didn't end
- 14:36Speaker 1: on the field into the parking lot. And let me
- 14:39Speaker 1: tell you something. What I do know is say each
- 14:42Speaker 1: one about Jane Ramsey. But something tells me he's about
- 14:44Speaker 1: that life. Yeah, yeah, he's about that life. He I
- 14:51Speaker 1: believe it. But the Rams of three one, they're only
- 14:55Speaker 1: losses to the Bills, which is a good football team.
- 14:57Speaker 1: They beat Dallas, they beat the Eagles, they beat the Giant,
- 14:59Speaker 1: So the wins aren't super impressive. But if there is
- 15:03Speaker 1: an impressive loss, I guess the Bills is the impressive loss.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Now in Arizona, these guys were two and two. The
- 15:09Speaker 1: thing that's hurt in these guys is that they're asking
- 15:12Speaker 1: Kyler Murray and Hopkins to do everything. At this point
- 15:15Speaker 1: that's just not going to happen. And Buddha Baker hasn't
- 15:18Speaker 1: been on the field recipe for disaster so far. But
- 15:22Speaker 1: I think they'll be able to climb themselves out this hole. Yeah.
- 15:24Speaker 1: I mean, they're, like we said, we've talked about every week.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I mean, they were the trendy pick to kind of
- 15:28Speaker 1: really turn heads and kind of take the next step
- 15:30Speaker 1: in the NFC West. And Kyla Murray again, he wasn't bad.
- 15:32Speaker 1: He threw for three touchdowns, didn't have a tenty yardage,
- 15:34Speaker 1: but they started off slow. They went punt punt, punt, touchdown, punt, fumble.
- 15:39Speaker 1: It's hard to kind of get going there. So it'll
- 15:42Speaker 1: be interesting. We'll have to watch them closely because obviously
- 15:44Speaker 1: second year head coach, new offense, but like you said,
- 15:47Speaker 1: the heavy lifting needs to be spread a little bit more.
- 15:49Speaker 1: So we'll definitely keep a close eye on those tricky
- 15:52Speaker 1: Cardinals at Arizona. So that's the word in the West
- 15:55Speaker 1: and Seattle Seahawks are four no Rams three and one,
- 15:58Speaker 1: Cardinals two and two, Frisco two and who's still the
- 16:01Speaker 1: best division in football? I looked around and I'm like, well,
- 16:03Speaker 1: is there another division that's kind of messing with them?
- 16:06Speaker 1: Then I looked at the AFC North. I looked, I
- 16:08Speaker 1: looked at the records, and then I saw who these
- 16:10Speaker 1: guys were playing, and I'm like, nah, AFC North, I
- 16:12Speaker 1: don't believe anybody in that division right now. So who
- 16:16Speaker 1: do the Hawks need to stop? Let's go to man up?
- 16:20Speaker 1: Who is this mass? Man up? On Hawk Talk? Man Up?
- 16:31Speaker 1: The first matchup the man of the hour Kirk Cousins
- 16:34Speaker 1: against the Seahawks defense. Now we gotta talk about Kirk
- 16:38Speaker 1: Cousins a little bit, man, because yeah, I think he
- 16:41Speaker 1: gets kind of a bad rat man. So everyone talks
- 16:43Speaker 1: about him. It's mister mediocre. They say he can't win
- 16:47Speaker 1: the big game, he can't do any of that. So
- 16:48Speaker 1: I'll give you the stats. He's sixty two for one
- 16:50Speaker 1: hundred eight hundred and eighty three yards, six touchdown, six picks. Okay,
- 16:54Speaker 1: that seems kind of average. A career record forty five
- 16:57Speaker 1: forty five and two. That's the definition average. Oh you
- 17:01Speaker 1: just say he gets a bad rap right there. Let
- 17:04Speaker 1: me finish. Their offense is sixteenth, that up thirty two teams,
- 17:09Speaker 1: which is again right in the middle. But beyond the stats,
- 17:14Speaker 1: beyond the eye test, I think he's a good quarterback.
- 17:16Speaker 1: I just think so. He was husawd in Washington. I
- 17:19Speaker 1: think he went out decided he was going to play
- 17:21Speaker 1: for a franchise tag, played well, got another one, played well,
- 17:24Speaker 1: and got a huge guaranteed contract. I can't hate the
- 17:27Speaker 1: man for doing that. Last year he went down to
- 17:29Speaker 1: New Orleans on the road, got his big playoff victory,
- 17:33Speaker 1: probably the biggest victory in his career. So yes, the
- 17:37Speaker 1: numbers say he's average, but I think he's better. In
- 17:40Speaker 1: watching film, I think he's a better quarterback than he
- 17:42Speaker 1: gets credit for. Yeah, no, I'm just giving you. I'm
- 17:46Speaker 1: just giving me a little flack. Yeah, I think he's
- 17:48Speaker 1: better than his record says, because we watched the film.
- 17:52Speaker 1: I encourage people watch the All twenty two film. You
- 17:54Speaker 1: will see he can make every single throw out there.
- 17:57Speaker 1: I mean, their offense is based on play action taking shots,
- 18:00Speaker 1: and he's taking his shots and more likely than not,
- 18:03Speaker 1: the ball is where it's supposed to be. Now, maybe
- 18:05Speaker 1: he hasn't been surrounded with the greatest team. Maybe he's
- 18:08Speaker 1: not the most likable guy. I can't see myself having
- 18:11Speaker 1: a beer and playing golf with this man. Can't do it.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Maybe maybe that's why he's not connecting with the people.
- 18:16Speaker 1: But you're right, you don't look at his record, you
- 18:19Speaker 1: look at the film. This guy can play some football.
- 18:23Speaker 1: So I just hope he doesn't play some ball against
- 18:25Speaker 1: the Seahawks. Now, we all know that this defense is
- 18:28Speaker 1: struggling against the past. Her cousin's gonna have some opportunities.
- 18:32Speaker 1: We'll see what we'll do with that. The next matchup.
- 18:34Speaker 1: We gotta look at him Russell Wilson versus the Vikings
- 18:37Speaker 1: struggling past defense. I see this defense at this birdman.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Rub my hands together, all right, Russ. I think this
- 18:44Speaker 1: is another three or four touchdown week for this guy.
- 18:47Speaker 1: They got some rookies playing for him on that on
- 18:49Speaker 1: that defensive side of the ball, They're they're allowing me
- 18:52Speaker 1: four hundred and twenty six yards three point six yards
- 18:55Speaker 1: per play, thirty one points per game. Hawks had been
- 18:59Speaker 1: scoring over thirty points poor game. This is a recipe
- 19:02Speaker 1: for this offense to continue to roll. Oh, no, no
- 19:04Speaker 1: question about it. Honestly, like you said, if they if
- 19:06Speaker 1: they're giving up Batman in the pass game, and like
- 19:08Speaker 1: you said, they started two rookie corners. Okay, you're starting
- 19:11Speaker 1: two rookie corners against in my opinion, the best wide
- 19:14Speaker 1: receiver tanem in the NFL, DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.
- 19:17Speaker 1: That's a lot to ask for if you're a rookie
- 19:19Speaker 1: coming into your second game. And then Russ is just
- 19:21Speaker 1: russ Man. He leads the league touchdown passes sixteen third
- 19:24Speaker 1: yards with a twelve hundred and eighty five first and
- 19:26Speaker 1: completion percentage first and yards per pass fourth in QBR
- 19:30Speaker 1: number one in passer rating. I mean, like you said,
- 19:33Speaker 1: you're looking at your chops, man, I don't that's a
- 19:36Speaker 1: that's a bad Russell's a bad matchup for anyone in
- 19:39Speaker 1: the NFL, let alone, if that's the one thing you
- 19:41Speaker 1: were struggling with as a unit. So it's gonna be
- 19:43Speaker 1: tough matchup for those guys. Tough matchup you mentioned DK
- 19:48Speaker 1: and Tyler Lockett against these rookie dbs. I'm with you.
- 19:51Speaker 1: This is the number one due in the league right now.
- 19:53Speaker 1: And DK Metcalf leads the NFL with four hundred and
- 19:57Speaker 1: three four and in three yards with sixteen receptions. That's
- 20:01Speaker 1: over twenty five yards a reception. He is eating up
- 20:04Speaker 1: a quarter of the field every time he gets to football.
- 20:07Speaker 1: If your average starting position is around the thirty yard line,
- 20:10Speaker 1: you cast a rock. You're already an enemy territory doing
- 20:13Speaker 1: this thing. DK Metcalf is playing like a potential pro bowler.
- 20:18Speaker 1: And now Tyler Lockett had to drop last game, didn't
- 20:21Speaker 1: get the targets that he would have liked. But that
- 20:24Speaker 1: opened up the game for Greg Olsen. That opened up
- 20:26Speaker 1: the game for DK. I expect Tyler Lockett to have
- 20:29Speaker 1: a bounce back game this week, No, no question about it.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I mean, there's not gonna be many times where Tyler's
- 20:34Speaker 1: only got four targets and two receptions. That might be
- 20:36Speaker 1: the last time that happens this year. But here's the thing.
- 20:39Speaker 1: If you're the defense is pick your poison. Okay, if
- 20:41Speaker 1: you're gonna commit, a lot of guys are taken away.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Tyler DK is gonna be tough. Another matchup, Dalvin Cook
- 20:48Speaker 1: versus Seahawks front seven. Dalvin kug is the best running
- 20:50Speaker 1: back in the NFL right now. Four hundred and twenty
- 20:52Speaker 1: four yards that's first in the league. Six touchdowns, that's
- 20:55Speaker 1: first in the league. Twenty five four smiths tackles, excuse me,
- 20:59Speaker 1: twenty one forced miss tackles. You gotta wrap him up,
- 21:03Speaker 1: and let's not sleep on him in a pass game.
- 21:05Speaker 1: His numbers in the pass game might not be great,
- 21:07Speaker 1: but if he needs to swing out and in cash
- 21:10Speaker 1: the rock or cast a scream, he can do that too.
- 21:12Speaker 1: What do you like the most out of Dalvin Cook?
- 21:14Speaker 1: That's a tough question. There's a lot. First of all,
- 21:17Speaker 1: I would watch this one play or touchdown he had
- 21:20Speaker 1: against the Texans. It was second down and three I
- 21:23Speaker 1: think from like the seven yard line right and it's
- 21:25Speaker 1: a nice little hand up up the middle and he's
- 21:27Speaker 1: dead to rights. He is hit by three different dudes.
- 21:29Speaker 1: He's his low center of gravity. He's not a big dude,
- 21:32Speaker 1: but he'll shrug off tackles, gets outside sis, stiff arms
- 21:35Speaker 1: a corner touchdown around the edge. So he's just his
- 21:38Speaker 1: balance and his vision is what really comes off. The
- 21:40Speaker 1: jumps off this page for me. Also, he's quick, he's elusive,
- 21:44Speaker 1: and here's a deal bump straight up. This is the
- 21:46Speaker 1: main key to the game. You shut down the run,
- 21:48Speaker 1: the Seahawks will win. If you don't, it's going to
- 21:51Speaker 1: be a long day. Everything that they do starts with
- 21:54Speaker 1: the run. All of their passes set up by long
- 21:57Speaker 1: play action, long developing crossing around. So this is this
- 22:01Speaker 1: is it. Man. If he goes off, it can be
- 22:03Speaker 1: a really tough day for the Seahawks defense. Yeah, I'm
- 22:06Speaker 1: not gonna lie. They kind of remind me of the Seahawks.
- 22:08Speaker 1: A lot of crossing routes, a lot of plashes, and
- 22:10Speaker 1: a lot of long developing plays. Now, the Hawks are
- 22:13Speaker 1: third in the NFL and rush defense, allowing just seventy
- 22:16Speaker 1: five yards. If they need, they need to continue to
- 22:21Speaker 1: be the third rushing defense in the NFL, like you mentioned,
- 22:24Speaker 1: for them to win this ball game, Dalvin Cook gets loose,
- 22:27Speaker 1: I don't know, it's gonna be a long day. Next
- 22:29Speaker 1: matchup Adam Feeling and Justin Jefferson verse the Seahawks DBS.
- 22:34Speaker 1: This is a nice combo. So so far, the Hawks
- 22:36Speaker 1: have seen Julio Ridley, Um, Julian Edelman will he's by himself.
- 22:43Speaker 1: They've seen Michael Gallup and Amari Cooper. Who else are that? Well,
- 22:48Speaker 1: I'm a blank all they saw just SICKI Who's Who's
- 22:51Speaker 1: all right? And DeVante Parker. This is probably the second
- 22:57Speaker 1: or the second most talented duo I've seen. I would
- 22:59Speaker 1: put Gallop and Cooper in front of them, Nah, scratch that,
- 23:03Speaker 1: I'm everywhere right now, and ask Julio and Ridley. I
- 23:05Speaker 1: would put as the best duel they've seen so far.
- 23:08Speaker 1: And both those dudes went four a hundred and a
- 23:10Speaker 1: third receiver win four a hundred. They're gonna be tested
- 23:13Speaker 1: this week with Jefferson and Feeling. Both are capable of
- 23:15Speaker 1: going for a hundred, and they're going up against a
- 23:18Speaker 1: struggling defense. Trey Flowers needs a balanced back game. Looks
- 23:21Speaker 1: like his confidence is down. Shack has been playing pretty
- 23:24Speaker 1: good two games, two picks, so maybe he's gonna hold
- 23:26Speaker 1: that side down for sure. No, and I'll agree with you.
- 23:29Speaker 1: I think Julio and Ridley are number one, and then
- 23:32Speaker 1: Feeling and Jefferson, Gallop and Cooper they're about They're about
- 23:35Speaker 1: the same. They do things different. It's gonna look different.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Feeling isn't the guy who's gonna kill you a speed
- 23:40Speaker 1: of dule that stuff. But he will get down the field,
- 23:42Speaker 1: will make big plays. He had back to back thousand
- 23:44Speaker 1: yards seasons in seventeen and eighteen before missing games with injury.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Last year. He's got four touchdowns touring eighty four yards
- 23:50Speaker 1: this year. You mentioned the rookie justin Jefferson. He's balling out.
- 23:54Speaker 1: And the thing that's really intriguing about this matchup is
- 23:56Speaker 1: because of their offense. They run so many formations with
- 24:00Speaker 1: two backs and two tight ends and stuff like that.
- 24:02Speaker 1: On most plays, you're only gonna see two receivers on
- 24:04Speaker 1: the field, and it's stealing in Jefferson. So Trey Flowers
- 24:08Speaker 1: and Shaquille Griffin are definitely can get a lot of
- 24:10Speaker 1: work this Sunday. You're gonna get that work. What's another
- 24:14Speaker 1: matchup we're looking at Nass Yeah, unique In Gockway, okay
- 24:18Speaker 1: versus Dwayne Brown Brandon Chelle Gockway came over from the Jags.
- 24:22Speaker 1: So far this series got nine tackles, three sacks, two
- 24:25Speaker 1: forced fumbles. But bumble dooo, a little shameless plug for
- 24:28Speaker 1: your film session. You broke down the Minnesota Vikings. You
- 24:31Speaker 1: took a little in depth look at them. Now. You
- 24:33Speaker 1: texted me the other day and said, hey, man In
- 24:36Speaker 1: Gockway's a problem. Tell me what you saw this man? Yeah, man,
- 24:39Speaker 1: I see a guy one he loves the nine tech
- 24:42Speaker 1: nine tech does gets some really wide on the line
- 24:44Speaker 1: of scrimmace. Who has room to attack that offensive tackle?
- 24:48Speaker 1: And when he fires off the football, I wouldn't. I'm
- 24:51Speaker 1: gonna say that his first three steps are just as
- 24:53Speaker 1: fast as the fastest dude in the NFL. His first
- 24:55Speaker 1: three steps out of his three point stands. It's ridiculous.
- 24:58Speaker 1: And then I watched this guy work. You know what
- 25:00Speaker 1: the rule is, when you're rushing, you never get deeper
- 25:03Speaker 1: than the quarterback. This dude continues to get deeper than
- 25:06Speaker 1: the quarterback. But it's so athletic. Gets his hands off
- 25:08Speaker 1: of him, fires back downhill. He just plays with a
- 25:11Speaker 1: motor that I haven't really seen. This guy is one
- 25:15Speaker 1: of the twitchiest defensive ends I've seen in a long time. Now.
- 25:19Speaker 1: He's only got three sacks, which isn't bad going into
- 25:22Speaker 1: week five. Nine tackles, but he's gonna force quarterbacks to
- 25:26Speaker 1: maneuver in that pocket. Dwayne Brown, Randon Shell, you got
- 25:30Speaker 1: your hands full this week. You're gonna need some help.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Just contain him. He's gonna make plays. Contain him. I
- 25:37Speaker 1: just see a dude that's twitches hill, no question about it.
- 25:39Speaker 1: And the thing about that I liked out of him
- 25:41Speaker 1: is his ability to turn the corner. You said he
- 25:43Speaker 1: likes to line up in that nine technique, but his
- 25:45Speaker 1: ability to get skinny almost like someone trying to block
- 25:48Speaker 1: a kick or block a punt, or he can kind
- 25:50Speaker 1: of dip that shoulder and get underneath. And the other
- 25:52Speaker 1: thing too, is a lot of times all those nine tackles,
- 25:55Speaker 1: that's team's running the ball away from him and him
- 25:58Speaker 1: coming down the line of scrimmage and making the tack
- 26:00Speaker 1: from behind because he's quick. So he's gonna have Dwayne
- 26:04Speaker 1: Brown Ranichell or definitely have their handsful. Hopefully they can
- 26:07Speaker 1: kind of ride him behind Russell and Russell can step up.
- 26:09Speaker 1: But that means everyone's got to do their job. Because
- 26:11Speaker 1: Yanique is a he's a baller man. Yep, he's a baller.
- 26:15Speaker 1: We gotta look after him. But for these Hawks to
- 26:18Speaker 1: get it done, gotta control Unique, got a limit, Cousins,
- 26:22Speaker 1: Dalvin Cook, Justin Jefferson. Let's just get to the path
- 26:25Speaker 1: of victory. At the forty five, waits for the snaff
- 26:30Speaker 1: Michael Vickson puts it down. That kick is away. If
- 26:33Speaker 1: that kick is good, good, say it's good. It's a
- 26:38Speaker 1: path to victory on Hawk Talk. Path to victory. Like
- 26:44Speaker 1: we mentioned, they have to stop the run. Dalvin Cook,
- 26:46Speaker 1: can that go off like he has every game this season.
- 26:50Speaker 1: You gotta be the number three rush defense in the NFL.
- 26:52Speaker 1: You have to do what you've done to Ezekiel Elliott,
- 26:55Speaker 1: to Todd Gurley to Cam Newton. Can't stop now, can't stop,
- 26:59Speaker 1: won't stop. They got us stock Cook, no question about it.
- 27:01Speaker 1: We've we've kind of hammered into the ground. But that's
- 27:03Speaker 1: what they do offensively, and they're not going to go
- 27:06Speaker 1: away from what they do. Everything. If you can't stop them,
- 27:08Speaker 1: They're going to continue to run the ball and that
- 27:10Speaker 1: just sets up play actions. So he is enemy number one.
- 27:12Speaker 1: To get a victory this week. Next thing they gotta do.
- 27:16Speaker 1: They gotta build off the last week. Continue to stop
- 27:17Speaker 1: the big plays and keep everything in front. There's no digs,
- 27:20Speaker 1: but this dude, justin Jefferson leads the league in plays
- 27:23Speaker 1: over twenty yards and he's a rookie, so he has
- 27:25Speaker 1: big playability. You have to contain those. The Hawks did
- 27:29Speaker 1: that last week. Stay on these guys hips now make plays.
- 27:33Speaker 1: I think Shack is in a position mentally to work.
- 27:35Speaker 1: He's good to go now. He's seeing the game. He's
- 27:38Speaker 1: breaking on Rouses technique, his text book. I slowed it
- 27:41Speaker 1: down and show my son, Mike, Look, this is how
- 27:43Speaker 1: you undercut a post. Right here, son, this is how
- 27:45Speaker 1: you do it. So Shaq is in a good place.
- 27:47Speaker 1: They have to contain the big plays. Yeah, and that's
- 27:49Speaker 1: we talked about explosive plays last week, and it was
- 27:51Speaker 1: good to see that for the first time this season
- 27:53Speaker 1: the Seahawks actually did that. Because it's a rescipe for disaster.
- 27:55Speaker 1: As we know, when they start getting five, six, seven, eight, nine,
- 27:58Speaker 1: Tana and the explosives you hold them under twenty yards,
- 28:01Speaker 1: they're not getting chunk yardage that contributed to them holding
- 28:03Speaker 1: Miami to field goals. So you gotta keep getting that
- 28:05Speaker 1: done now, as they got to get off the field
- 28:08Speaker 1: on third down. I feel like every week teams are
- 28:10Speaker 1: over fifty percent when it comes to third down conversions
- 28:12Speaker 1: Against these dudes. You're getting off the field on third down,
- 28:15Speaker 1: they're putting it on the foot, You're getting more possessions
- 28:17Speaker 1: for your offense. When the offense is the strength of
- 28:19Speaker 1: your team. Third downs are important because you want to
- 28:21Speaker 1: get it back in Russell Wilson's hands, especially because this
- 28:24Speaker 1: team wants to run the football. So I mean, I
- 28:26Speaker 1: know their game plan this week is what can we
- 28:27Speaker 1: do to get the ball out of number three's hands.
- 28:29Speaker 1: So if we can't get off the field, Russell can't
- 28:31Speaker 1: cook on the other side of the ball. So definitely
- 28:33Speaker 1: get off the field on third down another path to
- 28:37Speaker 1: victory and go after the Vikings pass defense. Russell Wilson,
- 28:40Speaker 1: DK Tyler Login all need to have big games to
- 28:43Speaker 1: test the rookie corners, and I'm still waiting for Uncle
- 28:46Speaker 1: Will to have a game too. Greg had his moment
- 28:48Speaker 1: last Week's time for Uncle Will to get involved. They
- 28:51Speaker 1: got to unleash that man. I'm telling you, he's so
- 28:54Speaker 1: deadly the last couple of years when he was healthy,
- 28:56Speaker 1: especially attacking the team, and he's such a good run
- 28:58Speaker 1: defender that guys, you know, get their eyes in the
- 29:00Speaker 1: wrong spot. Uncle Will. We really need to see an
- 29:02Speaker 1: appearance from him, because once he gets going, I think
- 29:04Speaker 1: this offense is gonna be scary good. I believe it.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Chris Carson's gotta keep going. We saw a glimpse of
- 29:10Speaker 1: it last week. Sixteen carries eighty yards. It can't just
- 29:13Speaker 1: be Russell all the time. Can't just be Russell all
- 29:15Speaker 1: the time. It's nice to have Russell all the time.
- 29:18Speaker 1: It's nice to have that option, but the great teams
- 29:21Speaker 1: distribute the ball and they are versatile. You can't just
- 29:25Speaker 1: make them do one thing. The Hawks teams are going
- 29:28Speaker 1: to try to force him to run the football, which
- 29:30Speaker 1: is crazy to even say. Right now, teams are going
- 29:32Speaker 1: to force the Hawks to run the football because of
- 29:35Speaker 1: what Russell Wilson has been doing this year. Yeah, and
- 29:37Speaker 1: you're right, that's crazy to think. We've been talking about
- 29:39Speaker 1: how run dominant offense we've been everyone's wanting Russ to
- 29:42Speaker 1: throw the ball every down. Carson's had back to back
- 29:44Speaker 1: thousand yard seasons. Teams want us to run the football now,
- 29:47Speaker 1: and we got to take advantage of it because we're
- 29:49Speaker 1: still incredibly good at that. We've improved a lot in
- 29:51Speaker 1: the offensive line in our pass pro, but we can
- 29:52Speaker 1: still run the pill, we can still run block. Even
- 29:54Speaker 1: Post has been comfortable up front, Damian Lewis is comfortable
- 29:57Speaker 1: up front, Dwayne Brown, Brandon Shell. So I want to
- 30:00Speaker 1: see them continue to do what they've been doing. Chris
- 30:02Speaker 1: Carson goff this night last week after that injury was
- 30:04Speaker 1: really productive, eight yards, best rushing game, So really looking
- 30:08Speaker 1: forward to seeing that. And also, before we get out
- 30:11Speaker 1: of your bump, cannot forget the people know Thursday Night.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Every Thursday at seven o'clock at Hawks Live on seven
- 30:17Speaker 1: ten ESPN Seattle, let Michael Bumpus and Paul Morier prepare
- 30:20Speaker 1: you for each and every game with their insight analysis,
- 30:23Speaker 1: player interviews, and behind the scenes look at the Seahawks
- 30:26Speaker 1: next matchup in the Minnesota Vikings hallowed us on Thursday.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Nasa Chobe is on the mic right now, he'll be
- 30:31Speaker 1: producing on Thursday. I'll Michael bump Is that's NASA Chobe.
- 30:35Speaker 1: This is the Hawk Talk preview. I also want to
- 30:38Speaker 1: give a big us to DJ Dallas. I think we
- 30:40Speaker 1: need to see a little bit more of that kid.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Minnesota's coming to town. Five and oh, can the Hawks
- 30:45Speaker 1: do it for the first time in franchise history. I
