- 0:00Hello there. I'm going to talk about karma today.
- 0:03Karma is a secular concept that should be shunned by Christians.
- 0:08It is defined as cause and effect, future or immediate consequence to current actions.
- 0:14I see this word hurled around a lot, but I doubt that one realizes that we minimize
- 0:20our Savior's work when we assume that we are bound by karma.
- 0:25Quote, Do not be deceived. God is not mocked.
- 0:30For whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. End quote.
- 0:36Galatians chapter 6 verse 7. Paul's words in Galatians can be lightly translated as karma,
- 0:44but he is talking about seeds you sow in your heart and actions that manifest
- 0:49in the form of sin through flesh.
- 0:52In my mind, Paul is emphasizing Proverbs 4, verse 23.
- 0:58Quote, Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.
- 1:05End quote. Proverbs 4, verse 23.
- 1:09If you look at God's love for us, there is no way you would believe that we
- 1:15will be judged the same way Hinduism and Buddhism expect karma to work. Let me illustrate.
- 1:23When my little one was about 12, he rammed his skateboard into his bedroom door
- 1:28when he was practicing skateboarding in his room behind closed doors.
- 1:33He got in a lot of trouble, grounded for a day, no skateboarding in the house
- 1:38anymore, and we did not repair his door until much later.
- 1:42He must have been much older when we actually replaced it. He had to live with
- 1:47a gaping hole in his door.
- 1:50If we had to implement rules of karma, he would have to replace the door.
- 1:55It does not take a rocket scientist to realize that he could not afford it then.
- 2:00The consequences of our sins is death.
- 2:05We do not think that we are better parents than God, do we? He pardoned our
- 2:10sins through goodness of Jesus.
- 2:13Now, we do get disciplined, just like my little one was disciplined.
- 2:17It may seem like a world of hurt as a result of what we did,
- 2:21but it is a fraction of what we deserve.
- 2:24It is not measure for measure.
- 2:26The consequences we face transform us to be who God expects us to be.
- 2:32We are disciplined because we are loved.
- 2:35Dear Jesus, thank you for not imposing karma on us. We would never be able to repay.
- 2:41The evil we commit is far greater than the good we are capable of.
- 2:45Thank you for taking it all on yourself and saving us from eternal doom.
- 2:51May we turn our gaze on you and cherish your love for us forever. Amen.
