- 0:00Speaker 1: But it is to fire me up Friday, and so this,
- 0:02Speaker 1: you know, that does kind of fire you Updnny here.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Pitbull course fires me up as far as
- 0:07Speaker 2: everybody up.
- 0:07Speaker 3: And of course it does Hill from the three h
- 0:09Speaker 3: five Miami Florida comes to town tomorrow.
- 0:11Speaker 1: So Florida isn't the Florida Internationals Stadium? Yeah, Pitbull Stadium? Yeah,
- 0:18Speaker 1: I think it is, for if you Okay, I thought
- 0:22Speaker 1: I saw that when I was flipping around one night.
- 0:24Speaker 1: I'd heard it but forgotten about it, and there it was,
- 0:26Speaker 1: all right, Uh, so it is it is.
- 0:29Speaker 2: They fired me up Friday, and for Cam.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Part of that is the one and only Pitbull here
- 0:35Speaker 1: on sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone.
- 0:37Speaker 2: All right.
- 0:37Speaker 1: So, uh, it's an important college football weekend and it's
- 0:45Speaker 1: already being described by many. Separation Saturday. Now I'm gonna
- 0:53Speaker 1: start in the SEC and then there's some other games
- 0:57Speaker 1: to get to. The Texas Florida game kicks off Separation
- 1:04Speaker 1: Saturday and kicks off a full slate in the Southeastern Conference.
- 1:09Speaker 1: And this is the national telecast ABC, the whole bit.
- 1:12Speaker 1: There's that, but beyond that, and certainly there's plenty to
- 1:17Speaker 1: discuss with this game of Texas in Florida, and we
- 1:19Speaker 1: have been doing that throughout the course of the week
- 1:22Speaker 1: and as of today right now, DJ Lagway is listed
- 1:27Speaker 1: as questionable for the game.
- 1:31Speaker 2: You know it.
- 1:33Speaker 1: In talking to long Oarnchs head coach de Starkeishan about it,
- 1:35Speaker 1: he said, he a must be pretty much of a
- 1:39Speaker 1: fast healer and b it is. You know, Aydon Warner
- 1:47Speaker 1: is a little not a little, He's a different kind
- 1:50Speaker 1: of quarterback. This is a guy who and when Sean Kelly,
- 1:55Speaker 1: the voice of the Gators, was on with us the
- 1:56Speaker 1: other day, described as a young man who's from Florida,
- 2:01Speaker 1: went to Yale, played there one year, wanted to come
- 2:03Speaker 1: back home, earn his way onto the Florida Roster's dream
- 2:07Speaker 1: was to be a Gator. Earned his way onto the
- 2:10Speaker 1: roster by being a walk on. Was able to do that.
- 2:13Speaker 1: And part of the reason he was able to do
- 2:15Speaker 1: that is because he made a highlight video of himself,
- 2:19Speaker 1: not just in game action, but some of the other
- 2:21Speaker 1: things and moves and stuff he made and his agility
- 2:25Speaker 1: and speed and things like that. So he sent it
- 2:28Speaker 1: to the coaches and like, okay, yeah, yeah, he'd be
- 2:30Speaker 1: a good preferred walk on we'll have him in there.
- 2:32Speaker 1: So they bring him in and then during a routine
- 2:35Speaker 1: examination once he got in, they realized he had a
- 2:38Speaker 1: torn acl and he had done all that without so
- 2:41Speaker 1: then he underwent surgery and then after that came back
- 2:47Speaker 1: and was really the third guy on the roster going
- 2:50Speaker 1: into the season. Graham Mertz was the starter.
- 2:53Speaker 2: EJ. Lagway was the backup.
- 2:55Speaker 1: When Mertz and the Gators overall to be fair as
- 2:58Speaker 1: a team, struck early, Lagway was given an opportunity and
- 3:05Speaker 1: it did inject some some energy and enthusiasm into the
- 3:09Speaker 1: offense and helped a little bit, but also he had
- 3:11Speaker 1: his struggles as a true freshman would They went back
- 3:14Speaker 1: to Graham Mertz, and then Mertz suffered a season ending
- 3:18Speaker 1: knee injury and that was it for him. Lagway came in,
- 3:20Speaker 1: had been playing well and really kind of had the
- 3:23Speaker 1: Georgia defense off balance with him up in that first
- 3:27Speaker 1: half thirteen to six, and that's when he injured the
- 3:29Speaker 1: hamstring and it was originally and initially described as significant
- 3:36Speaker 1: by head coach Billy Napier. Since then, however, and again,
- 3:40Speaker 1: Sean Kelly, their play by play voice, who was on
- 3:42Speaker 1: with a couple of days Ago said, I visited with
- 3:44Speaker 1: DJ on Monday and he said it wasn't as bad
- 3:48Speaker 1: as I thought it was going to be, and I
- 3:49Speaker 1: feel better today, And that kind of prompted I think
- 3:53Speaker 1: also some of the comments from coaching Apier and his
- 3:56Speaker 1: news conference about how it wasn't quite as bad, and
- 4:01Speaker 1: in Napier's words, there was a pathway for Lagway to
- 4:06Speaker 1: return and actually play in this game tomorrow.
- 4:10Speaker 2: And you know he really wants to.
- 4:11Speaker 1: He's a native Texan, he was a Mister Texas Football
- 4:14Speaker 1: from Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine with what he did
- 4:18Speaker 1: with Willis last year, and really wants to play. Well,
- 4:23Speaker 1: we'll see if he's in condition to go, it may
- 4:25Speaker 1: go all the way. He maybe listed this question. The
- 4:28Speaker 1: thing about questionable is you can put a guy. You
- 4:32Speaker 1: can list the guy in the SEC Student Athlete Availability
- 4:35Speaker 1: Report as questionable. Questionable means fifty to fifty. You don't
- 4:41Speaker 1: have to do anything more than that. You don't have
- 4:42Speaker 1: to say it's probable, you don't have to say is doubtful.
- 4:44Speaker 1: You can keep him at questionable and then not play
- 4:46Speaker 1: him if you so choose, or play. So I have
- 4:51Speaker 1: a feeling he may be questionable all the way up
- 4:53Speaker 1: till they finally make the decision. Maybe it's after warm
- 4:56Speaker 1: ups tomorrow, who knows. We'll keep an eye on it
- 5:00Speaker 1: for sure, But that's just the first game Texas Florida
- 5:05Speaker 1: then cam There are those who would say, without question,
- 5:12Speaker 1: don't even blink the that the Alabama LSU game is
- 5:17Speaker 1: the most important game in the Southeastern Conference, if not
- 5:19Speaker 1: the nation this week. But there are others who will
- 5:22Speaker 1: tell you Georgia ole Miss is pretty dog gone important
- 5:24Speaker 1: and that's the game that follows Texas and precedes Alabama LSU.
- 5:30Speaker 1: It's gonna be a, you know, quite the challenge for
- 5:33Speaker 1: Georgia going out. Ole Miss is playing really well, I think,
- 5:36Speaker 1: and I think that would make a big difference.
- 5:39Speaker 3: And we have not really seen Georgia play well for
- 5:42Speaker 3: an entire game outside of maybe they're winning against Texas, right,
- 5:46Speaker 3: I mean, they were in a dog fight with Florida
- 5:48Speaker 3: that came down to the second half, and if Lagway
- 5:51Speaker 3: does not get injured, maybe Georgia loses that game. I mean,
- 5:55Speaker 3: who knows, purely hypothetical. Obviously led the entire game against Techs,
- 6:00Speaker 3: but in a close one against Misissippi State that came
- 6:03Speaker 3: down to the very last possession. Auburn probably their most
- 6:07Speaker 3: dominant victory, but then struggled against Kentucky lost to Alabama. Obviously,
- 6:12Speaker 3: the Clemson game kind of got out of hand in
- 6:13Speaker 3: the second half. So what will happen for can Georgia
- 6:17Speaker 3: together a four quarter game? And I think the question
- 6:20Speaker 3: really is about Carson Back. I mean he's throwing what
- 6:22Speaker 3: eleven interceptions or seven something ridiculous. He threw for four,
- 6:27Speaker 3: counted for four turnovers against Florida, had three picks in
- 6:31Speaker 3: a fumble.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Yeah, is that correct? I mean Jorge in three interceptions
- 6:35Speaker 1: against Texas.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Yeah, that's awful for a quarterback that was supposed to
- 6:39Speaker 3: be maybe the first quarterback taking off the draft.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Board this season.
- 6:43Speaker 3: So Georgia able to skate by, But man, if he
- 6:46Speaker 3: throws three or four interceptions against Ole Miss or or
- 6:48Speaker 3: Tennesse Seed, that they may end up losing one more game.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Craig, Yeah, so we'll see how an Ole Miss of
- 6:55Speaker 1: course has been playing better. And and speaking of courterbacks,
- 7:00Speaker 1: Jackson Dart is playing just about as well as any
- 7:02Speaker 1: quarterback in the SEC right now.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Yeah, so Ole Miss team with two losses in conference play,
- 7:08Speaker 3: if they want to make the SEC title. I think
- 7:11Speaker 3: everyone can except for what do you know if Florida can't.
- 7:14Speaker 3: I think Florida is out of it. You did the algorithms,
- 7:17Speaker 3: states all of it. I think South Carolina is out
- 7:20Speaker 3: of it. But in uh, Oklahoma obviously one in foreign
- 7:24Speaker 3: conference play, but Ole Miss. You know, if they can
- 7:27Speaker 3: stack some wins here, they can beat Georgia, then they
- 7:31Speaker 3: just have Florida and the Bulldogs left on their schedule
- 7:33Speaker 3: Miss Sippy State. That is, they can find a way
- 7:36Speaker 3: a pathway to Atlanta.
- 7:38Speaker 1: All right, So does the fact that Alabama at LSU
- 7:43Speaker 1: is described by Paul Finbaum.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Among others, as an elimination game. But for.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Heather Dinnich and other college football playoff analysts who do
- 7:56Speaker 1: the number crunching and this and that and can prepare
- 7:59Speaker 1: the probably ability, they say that Alabama wouldn't necessarily be out.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Does that grind your gears a bout as much as
- 8:07Speaker 1: anything else, because the way, judging from your reactions this week,
- 8:10Speaker 1: that possibly even made a snide comment about a four
- 8:14Speaker 1: loss Alabama four loss team is not getting in, but
- 8:19Speaker 1: you know, a three loss she said, it doesn't necessarily
- 8:22Speaker 1: knock them out, but it kind of puts them in
- 8:24Speaker 1: a bad spot.
- 8:25Speaker 3: Yeah, it depends on how much chaos happens, Craig. I mean,
- 8:28Speaker 3: if Notre Dame loses, the Army BYU slips up, maybe
- 8:32Speaker 3: Indiana gets blown out by Ohio State, Penn State, or
- 8:36Speaker 3: Tennessee lose here or there. If you Boise State drops one,
- 8:39Speaker 3: then all of a sudden, there is a case that
- 8:42Speaker 3: a three loss Alabama team might be better than one
- 8:45Speaker 3: of those teams. So a lot can happen. Now, I
- 8:47Speaker 3: think it would take all of that for them to
- 8:49Speaker 3: get in because if they lose to LSU, they need
- 8:53Speaker 3: a lot of help. Then LSU theoretically would be ahead
- 8:56Speaker 3: of them in the standing sure has a better case
- 8:59Speaker 3: for the spot than Alabama does, unless LSU ends up
- 9:03Speaker 3: dropping one more game the end of the season. So
- 9:06Speaker 3: it's that doesn't really grin in my gears. I just
- 9:08Speaker 3: think it's funny Craig. And again, this just goes back
- 9:11Speaker 3: to what ESPN puts on their their TV screen, where
- 9:13Speaker 3: every every game is just a massive game and has
- 9:17Speaker 3: massive implications. You know that the world's going to end
- 9:20Speaker 3: if this team loses or this team wins, it's over
- 9:22Speaker 3: with that coach. He's getting fired this quarterback sucks. It's
- 9:25Speaker 3: just there's there's a lot going on. So I'm glad
- 9:28Speaker 3: we have the Heather Dimaches of the world to kind
- 9:31Speaker 3: of keep people's feet on the ground and say, no,
- 9:34Speaker 3: you know what, it's the board is not going to
- 9:35Speaker 3: get fired. They lose this game, they just they still
- 9:38Speaker 3: have a pathway. It's just it's harder to make the
- 9:39Speaker 3: playoffs that they lose.
- 9:41Speaker 1: You know who makes me crazy. It's not that it's
- 9:43Speaker 1: not the armageddon like status of things in the SEC
- 9:48Speaker 1: as presented in promos by ABC or ESPN. It's the
- 9:54Speaker 1: woman on the Monday night football promos, the one who's
- 9:58Speaker 1: just sitting there staring at her commercial stare it or
- 10:00Speaker 1: a computer went, this is gonna be the greatest game ever,
- 10:03Speaker 1: you know, stealers and giants, And I'm like, stop it.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Don't make that like it's a big deal. Look I'm
- 10:09Speaker 1: a Rams fan. Quit making the Rams and Dolphins sound
- 10:12Speaker 1: like it's a super Bowl from the seventies, because it's not. Okay,
- 10:17Speaker 1: stop it. Anyway to some of the other matchups. One
- 10:24Speaker 1: thing that was written in by Bill Connelly for ESPNO
- 10:31Speaker 1: covers college football so astuteley he said, was last week
- 10:35Speaker 1: This is a very valid question to ask. Was last
- 10:40Speaker 1: week a sign of things to come in the Big twelve?
- 10:44Speaker 1: Talking about Iowa State losing at home to Texas Tech,
- 10:46Speaker 1: Kansas State losing in Houston. So what you got are
- 10:50Speaker 1: a couple of really big games, really three games that
- 10:54Speaker 1: matter this week in the Big twelve, and TCU Oklahoma
- 10:58Speaker 1: State is not one of those. B. Why you at Utah?
- 11:02Speaker 1: The oh Holy War that thing? Although Utah is struggled.
- 11:06Speaker 1: They're just four and four right now. B WHYU yeah,
- 11:10Speaker 1: b YU undefeated. I Aloway stayed at Kansas. Kansas has
- 11:15Speaker 1: got a little bit better late, but they struggled mightily
- 11:18Speaker 1: at the beginning. And then what I think could be
- 11:21Speaker 1: as telling is anything is Colorado at Texas Tech Tech
- 11:24Speaker 1: one in Ames last week. They're hard to beat at home,
- 11:27Speaker 1: but Colorado has been on a roll. And Travis Hunter
- 11:30Speaker 1: one of the Heisman Trophy favorites, if not the Heisman
- 11:33Speaker 1: Trophy favorite, certainly he's right up there with Ashton genty
- 11:35Speaker 1: I think. So those are three important games in the
- 11:40Speaker 1: Big Twelve, just as there's three important games in the
- 11:42Speaker 1: SEC I would I would offer to you. So those
- 11:46Speaker 1: are those are some ones to keep in mind as well,
- 11:49Speaker 1: and then there's not that much.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Happening really in the Big Ten.
- 11:53Speaker 1: I mean, Indiana is Indiana's playing Michigan, but Indiana's better
- 11:57Speaker 1: in Michigan and they're playing the game in Bloomington. Washington's
- 12:01Speaker 1: at Penn State. Eh, Washington hadn't been that good and
- 12:04Speaker 1: Penn State will be itching to be better after losing
- 12:08Speaker 1: at home to Ohio State last week.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Maryland and Oregon, I don't think there's much there is
- 12:17Speaker 2: Penn State.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Are they locked into a playoff spot? I mean at
- 12:20Speaker 3: number six, it's pretty high ranking after their lost to
- 12:23Speaker 3: wiow State.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I'd say they have a really good shot. And their
- 12:27Speaker 1: remaining schedule is yeah, very manageable. You mentioned Purdue, Minnesota
- 12:32Speaker 1: and Maryland, maybe Minnesota PJ Fleck, But besides that.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Yeah, it's very manageable.
- 12:37Speaker 1: They could wind up a one loss team outside of
- 12:40Speaker 1: the Big Ten championship game, a rematch between Oregon and
- 12:43Speaker 1: Ohio State with a shot to get.
- 12:45Speaker 2: In hosting a first round game.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Yeah, hosting a first round or maybe they're in the
- 12:50Speaker 1: nine spot, depending on who's winning and slotting of conference champions.
- 12:57Speaker 2: But it's going to depend on what else is going on.
- 12:59Speaker 1: I'm here to tell you, if Boise State wins out,
- 13:03Speaker 1: they're not just going to be automatically slotted in the twelve.
- 13:06Speaker 1: They're going to be higher than that, because they're you know,
- 13:08Speaker 1: they're knocking on the door of that right now. All
- 13:11Speaker 1: right up next, we bring you a Friday, a Florida
- 13:15Speaker 1: Man Friday edition of Inconceivable here on sports Radio AM
- 13:18Speaker 1: thirteen under the zone of the IR Radio app.
