- 0:00Yeah, listen to the Beef River Cool podcast.
- 0:01My name is Rex 45. This evening we got lots to talk
- 0:05about Indonesia. A lot went down there.
- 0:08A lot of first excited about that.
- 0:11There's some, you know, tough things to talk about with some
- 0:13of the riders. So we're going to jump into it.
- 0:15But let me introduce our guests for tonight one at a time.
- 0:19First, let's bring in TJ to the building.
- 0:21TJ, what's going on? Man, How you doing?
- 0:24Hanging in man, ready to talk motorcycles.
- 0:27There's interesting weekend overall.
- 0:31A lot happens, so ready to get into it?
- 0:35Yeah, no doubt. And I saw that the Patriots won,
- 0:38so you must be excited about that, but hopefully you're not
- 0:40going to get your hopes up too much.
- 0:43Everyone's afraid of us always. It's good to see us to get a a
- 0:47big win, you know, take an undefeated team down.
- 0:51But, you know, we do what we always do.
- 0:54So we'll see. We don't have Tom Brady, but we
- 0:57we still dogs in the end. We always fight so.
- 1:01No doubt, no doubt. That's what's up.
- 1:03We're going to keep it moving. Reese, man, welcome to the show.
- 1:06See you behind the wheels. I know you're going to be
- 1:08getting on a plane soon and and going to check out Portugal and
- 1:12stuff like that. What's going on, man?
- 1:13How things might have lost Reese there.
- 1:19We, you know, we, we got, we don't get back to Reese Lewis,
- 1:22man. Welcome to the show, man.
- 1:23How you doing tonight man? Good, good man.
- 1:25Glad to be back on camera. Last week I was in the I was
- 1:28driving so I was blacked out the entire time, which is a good
- 1:31thing because people couldn't see my face reacting to some of
- 1:34the things. They just had to listen.
- 1:38They just had to listen to the to the tone of my voice and know
- 1:40that I had that look on my face. Yeah, hey, well, they're going
- 1:44to see it tonight for sure, man. So everything's good.
- 1:48Yeah, everything's good. Back home for a week.
- 1:51Next week I'll be out in Cali for a few days and I'm back home
- 1:54for a couple weeks and then I'm off to Italy for for 10 days and
- 2:00then I'm back home again. So this next couple of months is
- 2:03a lot of home and trip and home and trip and home and trip.
- 2:05But everything else is good, man.
- 2:07Season's over, so now I'm just putting all the pieces together
- 2:11for the riders that are going to be working with me next year,
- 2:15making sure that I got everything I need to take care
- 2:17of them. And you know, for those of you
- 2:20that think it's not, I mean it's hard enough doing bikes and
- 2:24everything else, but it's just as hard doing gear, getting it
- 2:27together. I mean, I sometimes it's a
- 2:29little bit even more pressure because we'll have a suit
- 2:32designed or we'll have, you know, suits made and they'll
- 2:36ship and they'll get here. And literally the day they get
- 2:39here, the riders like, oh, I got a new patch to add or I'm going
- 2:43to change this. I'm going to change that.
- 2:44And you know, it's not easy to make those moves, takes time,
- 2:50but but we got a, we got a quick crew for next year.
- 2:53No doubt it. It's not and I and I and I feel
- 2:56you there with the traveling and stuff like that as I got in last
- 3:00night and you know, I'm sitting here complaining about it today,
- 3:03but it is what it is. And we're going to talk about
- 3:06next season as well and what that looks like and and the
- 3:09behind the scenes and stuff like that is we'll wait for Reese to
- 3:13come back in. Like he might have had some
- 3:15technical issues on his side. So we'll keep it moving until he
- 3:18he he cuts, he cuts comes back. So let's let's talk about it.
- 3:23The race Moto GP was Indonesia and I'm I'm going to mess up the
- 3:29the name of the track but. Mandalika.
- 3:33Thank you, Mandalika, which I didn't realize it was VR46
- 3:37Academy team, you know, I guess home second home track and and I
- 3:44didn't even notice their colors too much.
- 3:45I was only seeing the yellow, but they were kind of further
- 3:49back in in in in the situation this weekend.
- 3:52But let's jump into it Aprilia, they look really good.
- 3:57They're down to riders still were able to, you know, get, you
- 4:01know, pole position and Raul Fernandez, even though he had a
- 4:05contract for next year, you know, I think, you know, it's
- 4:10what he's the closest thing to what did digit Antonio had to go
- 4:14through and he was struggling with Grazini for for a bit and
- 4:17then he found his way at the end.
- 4:20I mean, I know indigenous case. He didn't have a contract weight
- 4:24and then and he and his finish of the season allow him to get
- 4:28signed with VR46 Academy. And now he's the he gets the 25
- 4:32bike and he's he's one of the top riders.
- 4:34And I mean he's one of the top five riders in the championship
- 4:37or top six in the championship. And so the most impressive thing
- 4:41was what Raul's doing and what he's been doing lately, you
- 4:45know, getting on the podium and stuff like that.
- 4:47That's huge. What are your thoughts, TJ?
- 4:51Well, I mean, we don't hear much about these guys.
- 4:54So at this point of the season is is kind of finally to, you
- 4:59know, hear some names that we should be hearing.
- 5:01He's been struggling for a while.
- 5:04And to ride really well on the track where a lot of riders did
- 5:09not, it's pretty good to see. And for him to go on the podium
- 5:13is awesome, you know, well deserved and he needs the
- 5:16confidence. So definitely going forward for
- 5:20being on a 2025 bike, I think he definitely would be more
- 5:26improved, but I think it's good to see him on the podium for
- 5:28sure. And he got 6 in the the Grand
- 5:34Prix, so the overall good weekend for himself.
- 5:38Yeah, let me just check right now.
- 5:40I think so. I mean, he he was close in the
- 5:42beginning. And yeah, top six in the
- 5:45championship, third in in the Sprint.
- 5:48What are your thoughts, Lewis, on, on, on how Aprilia is is
- 5:52doing? We'll talk about Bazecki's crash
- 5:55and Mark crash. We probably jump into that right
- 5:57after since we're talking about Aprilia.
- 5:58But you know what, Raul, what he's been doing, you know, he,
- 6:04he, you know, he's not going to be fighting for rookie of the
- 6:06year because he's been in Moto GP now for a few years, you
- 6:10know, But do you think this is something where if sponsors were
- 6:13thinking about leaving or, you know, track house might have
- 6:16been like, well, we won't see him in 27.
- 6:19Do you think like he's doing enough now to sit here and say
- 6:21hey man, I deserve a job and stay in Moto GP at least for
- 6:25four years? Yeah, there's two things coming
- 6:28together here at the same time. 1 I think he is, he's finding
- 6:31his rhythm. He's, you know, he's been pretty
- 6:33consistent when he's been finishing races, he's been very
- 6:37consistent. He's been, you know, kind of
- 6:39working his way up from the bottom of the grid.
- 6:41If you remember at the beginning of the year, I mean, he, this
- 6:44guy was written off. You know, his teammate was very
- 6:47competitive. And then that, you know, when
- 6:49his teammate went in One Direction, he started going in
- 6:53the opposite direction. As his teammate went down, he
- 6:55went up. And I think that's two things.
- 6:57I think 1, he probably found the right mix of the setup that he
- 7:00needed. But as I said previously, the
- 7:03only other bike that's competitive to do Ducati right
- 7:05now is the Aprilia. And I think Aprilia has kind of
- 7:09taken these small steps throughout the season and you've
- 7:12seen how they've gotten more and more competitive now, you know,
- 7:15on a regular basis. They're right up up there at the
- 7:17at the front, they're at the pointy end of the spear.
- 7:20And I think he's just taking advantage of Aprilia getting its
- 7:23rhythm under it of him getting his rhythm under him, finding
- 7:26the right setups. The kid could ride.
- 7:28It's not that the kid couldn't ride.
- 7:30I mean, it's, you know, all these guys in Moto GB can ride,
- 7:33man. You know, they show up at any
- 7:34track day, they're going to wipe the floor with anybody.
- 7:37They show up at most racing events, they're going to wipe
- 7:38the floor with anybody. If it's competitive bike here,
- 7:41you know, you're at the very tip of the sword, man.
- 7:44It's just so narrow up there. I mean, you can finish in 15th
- 7:46place and you're only, you know, 8 tenths of a second slower a
- 7:50lap. But you finished in 15th place,
- 7:53almost 8 seconds off the leader. Like, it's crazy, dude.
- 7:56Like when you think about those numbers, 8 seconds, it takes me
- 7:59longer than that to go from here to the garage and back and and
- 8:03I'm I'm in 15 place. Yeah, no, it it's definitely
- 8:06crazy to see that. I mean, and even in Moto 2 you
- 8:09see it more when I, you know, Joe Roberts was like, you know,
- 8:12point, you know, 7 seconds off off of the the number one guy
- 8:18and it's just kind of like I'm in 15 place.
- 8:19Yeah, that that doesn't make any sense.
- 8:21So I think, I think Aprilia has made just a couple of right of
- 8:24adjustments and he's made whatever adjustments he needs to
- 8:27make and it's good to see him up there, man.
- 8:29I like to see these young guys, you know, getting their, their,
- 8:32their opportunities to be on the podium.
- 8:34I love to see new faces on the podium, man.
- 8:36There's nothing worse than seeing the same 3 or 4 guys
- 8:38sharing the podium week in and week out.
- 8:40And even if it's just a Sprint race, you know what man, Sprint
- 8:44builds kind of confidence. If you get enough good sprints
- 8:47under you, then you start thinking, hey, if I can do this
- 8:49in the Sprint, I just got to double up the amount of time and
- 8:52I can do this in the race. And we've seen that with other
- 8:55young guys. I, I look forward to the rest of
- 8:57the season. You know, I was thinking for a
- 9:00while that Aprilia was only going to be competitive at
- 9:02certain tracks, But I mean, they're proving to me now that
- 9:05they're actually competitive in a lot of tracks, man, It's not
- 9:08just a few tracks. They're definitely a step ahead
- 9:11of Yamaha. They're definitely a step ahead
- 9:14of a Honda. And they're, they're kind of
- 9:17like the the up and coming manufacturer, the guys to look
- 9:20out for. Right, right.
- 9:21No, I, I, I agree with that. And you know, TJ, you know you
- 9:26didn't. Let's talk about Bazecki.
- 9:28He got pole position. He seems like he's the only guy
- 9:31that been fighting with Marc Marquez in the races as of late.
- 9:35And the Prelia is as as we heard, you just heard Lewis say
- 9:40is it was one of the best bikes out there.
- 9:42Granted, they still got to figure out their starts, but
- 9:45what a way for Bez to come from 8:00 to win the Sprint.
- 9:49And you know, and unless let's talk about Mark and Bez's crash,
- 9:54was it really Bez's fault on that?
- 9:57So what are you, what are your thoughts, TJ On, on, on.
- 10:00You know what Bez is doing, what Aprilia is doing.
- 10:03As far as you know, they're they're taking away points away
- 10:06from Ducati. Yeah, I mean, like Lewis and you
- 10:11guys are saying, Aprilia has definitely been the manufacturer
- 10:14who's been the the most competitive to Ducati with
- 10:19Ducati having so many bikes on the three and having the
- 10:24championship being out and have to rely on your other factory.
- 10:28Ryder Dazecki has definitely stepped it up for the
- 10:31second-half of the season. They've been having great setups
- 10:34and coming into this race for him to get polls awesome, you
- 10:39know, it just shows that that bike has a good setup at most
- 10:43tracks so far. His pace was just second to
- 10:47none, like the start that he had was pretty bad in the Sprint
- 10:53which put him back a lot of places.
- 10:56And he just had a mentality I guess from following Mark so
- 10:59much that you know how to fight from the back and just work his
- 11:02way in the front. And it's pretty impressive for
- 11:04the amount of laps that he had to do it.
- 11:07And you know, just Al Daguerre could have pulled it out.
- 11:11You know how to how to put that awesome weekend, but is that he
- 11:14pulled out the 1st place and that was pretty cool to see him
- 11:17fight and get to the podium going into the GPI.
- 11:24Think it was just more of like, I don't know if it was that his
- 11:28fault. I think he was just too eager
- 11:29going into the corner knowing he had to follow Mark probably and
- 11:34just keep up with the pace in the front.
- 11:37I think Mark probably a little went a little wide in the corner
- 11:41slightly. But yeah, I think it was just a
- 11:44a freak accident. Obviously we don't think he did
- 11:46it on purpose and and it's just I'm unfortunate that, you know,
- 11:51we've been seeing this type of incidents in past couple of
- 11:55races. So it's something going on
- 11:58there. I I, I, I agree there's
- 12:01definitely something going on. Lewis, what are you, what are
- 12:04your thoughts on on on Bez, the accident, just how he's riding.
- 12:09You know, when you look at this, I gotta look at the standings to
- 12:11be sure. I could have been dreaming.
- 12:13But when I looked at it, it was like, you know, Marc Marquez,
- 12:17Alex Marquez back now. Yeah.
- 12:20VR46 Academy riders, it seems like it's, it's Rossi and, and,
- 12:26and the Marquez's because these are all Rossi students, right?
- 12:30So you know, what are you, what are your thoughts on it?
- 12:32Is it is it a fluke thing? Is it just because, you know,
- 12:35he's part of the VR46 Academy? And it seems like, you know,
- 12:39outside of Peko Bagnaya at the moment, like the the the VR46
- 12:43Academy riders, they know how to talk to the engineers and get
- 12:47what they want from the bikes. I mean, it could be a couple of
- 12:51things because the VR46 riders, obviously they get a lot of
- 12:54training in bikes set up and how to talk to mechanics and how to
- 12:58understand data and so forth and so on.
- 13:01And but they have a lot of talent too.
- 13:03I mean, it's not like they accept anybody into the VR46
- 13:06Academy. If they bring you into the fold,
- 13:08it's because they see something in you that they believe they
- 13:11can develop into a champion or into somebody that could be a
- 13:13contender. Bazecki right now is probably
- 13:17riding the best that I think he's ever ridden.
- 13:20I think he's taking the Aprilia pretty far.
- 13:23I mean, he's the only one that was giving them feedback.
- 13:25He was a, he was a one man team. Out of four guys on an Aprilia,
- 13:29he was the only one that was really getting the bike to do
- 13:32anything that he wanted. And once they kind of fixed it,
- 13:35figured out the issues, you know, he he kind of ran with it.
- 13:39I, I still think that he, he keeps going at the pace he's
- 13:43going. He's probably going to finish
- 13:47ahead of back nine at the end of the year, which will be a a win
- 13:52in itself. I mean, you want to you beat a
- 13:54former champion, you beat a guy that's on the factory team in
- 13:57Ducati, which everybody considers the penultimate or the
- 14:00best bike in the in the grid. You're the second best bike in
- 14:02the grid. So these are all little
- 14:04victories he can walk away with and for the most part, he's
- 14:07riding great. You know, coming back from, you
- 14:09know, again, horrible start something with the Aprilia is
- 14:12not right. These starts suck.
- 14:14They can't keep doing this because it's eventually it's
- 14:16going to catch up and it kind of caught up in the second rate in
- 14:19the race itself. You know, in the Sprint he was
- 14:20able to kind of get through a lot of people and and and get to
- 14:24the front. But and the long race, you know,
- 14:26I think he's trying to compensate for such a bad start
- 14:30that you start making small mistakes.
- 14:31And on this particular track, if you saw there were in a lot of
- 14:34great places of passage, seemed there was a few places and maybe
- 14:38he just got overeager and and clashed into Mark.
- 14:41You know, I don't think he did it on purpose because he's out
- 14:44there trying to win. Did it look like they had two
- 14:46separate lines? It looked like they had two
- 14:49separate lines, but again, that could be Mark's riding style
- 14:51versus Bazecki's riding style. You know, until you're on the
- 14:55bike, you can't, you know, you can't really say you can't.
- 14:58You know, every bike has its different dynamics when you go
- 15:02through a turn. You know, the, the Ducati is
- 15:04known for being a great stable bike on the braking.
- 15:07The Aprilia is known for, you know, having a a different type
- 15:10of line and this and that. And then Mark himself can do
- 15:12things other riders can't do in the mid corner.
- 15:15And the way that he slows the bike and pushes it out of the
- 15:17corner. I I just think again, it's
- 15:21always the passing riders responsibility to pass safely.
- 15:24So if you clash into somebody like that and that wasn't like a
- 15:27small bump like that was a a legitimate clash.
- 15:29Oh yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Bez had
- 15:33to stand the bike up. Yeah, you have to, you have to
- 15:37kind of own it and, and Bez owned it, you know, Bez said his
- 15:40apologies and everything else. And I think Mark did a class
- 15:43acting by saying, you know, hey, this is a racing incident.
- 15:46I don't take this is anything serious.
- 15:48I don't believe it one moment that Bazeki did this on purpose.
- 15:52And I think that was Mark trying to like change the, the, the
- 15:55temperature in the room because you know what?
- 15:57The what? Was the day before he had a long
- 15:59penalty for bumping what you would call it?
- 16:03So it's like, you know. He has to take it that way
- 16:08because he was on the other side of it, but they stayed up right.
- 16:11But you also have to think who hit him AVR 46 rider.
- 16:14So, you know, right now, as soon as AVR 46 rider takes Mark
- 16:18Marquez out, I mean, people are blowing their loads all over
- 16:21Italy right now because they're like, hey, you know, like so
- 16:26he's trying to change the narrative and lower the
- 16:29temperature in the room and say there's a racing innocent.
- 16:31I don't you know, I know that he didn't do it on purpose.
- 16:34I think he mark is showing he has a lot of respect even though
- 16:37they're banging when they're racing, you know, off the track,
- 16:40he's trying to be that guy that shows a lot of respect to people
- 16:42because he doesn't want to further go down that mud and get
- 16:46pulled into that, that that quicksand again of like drama
- 16:49with Italian riders, drama with VL 46 this.
- 16:52And that's like, you know what, it just sucks that he's going to
- 16:55miss the next two rounds because he's only, you know, 55 points
- 16:59away from setting a new all time record 600 points.
- 17:04So hopefully he'll take these next two rounds, he'll heal up,
- 17:07he'll come back after the flyways, do a couple of rounds
- 17:11in Europe and maybe get those last 55 points he needs and set
- 17:15that 600 point mark, man. Yeah, OK, that's what's up.
- 17:20Let's let's talk about it. You know, Ducati struggled this
- 17:24weekend. Really a little bit, a little
- 17:30bit. Ducati struggled a little bit
- 17:31this weekend. A lot of it.
- 17:33You know, you know, and, and I said this, I mean, I've been
- 17:38saying this all. It's one of the things I really
- 17:40do. And I'm I'm going to try to be
- 17:41more like Lewis and say I'm right all the time.
- 17:45Well, you have to actually be right all the time.
- 17:48You. Know, you know, most times I am
- 17:51when I say I am but Ducati's messing up I mean I, I, I think
- 17:56that, you know, I think the 2025 Ducati's probably the worst bike
- 18:02they've made since 2020 and 2020 was their worst bike because
- 18:05they didn't give it to the satellite teams.
- 18:07They, they all had 19 bikes and that bike didn't, didn't
- 18:10survive. And it sounds like, you know,
- 18:12Alex Marquez doesn't want a 2625 bike.
- 18:15They're running from the 25 bike.
- 18:18It it, you know, is it a situation where, you know, you
- 18:22look back at when Vinales started struggling with Yamaha,
- 18:27when you know Pedro's and these other guys are struggling with
- 18:29Honda, But you know, Quatarara could ride the bike fast for
- 18:32Yamaha, Mark could ride the bike fast for Honda.
- 18:35Mark could not ride the bike fast for Ducati.
- 18:38But the bike is not the same. It's not, it's not a they're
- 18:40starting to slip. And we saw that then and it
- 18:44just, we just thought, you know, they just kind of said, like,
- 18:46you know, these riders are just going to they they have to
- 18:49figure it out. It's the confidence thing.
- 18:51It's a that thing. And then, you know, three years
- 18:53later, the bike is bad and everybody, it's unanimous.
- 18:57So I I say all that to say, like this is on Ducati, right?
- 19:02The way, the way these bikes are running at this point, we can't.
- 19:04I know, I know Petco gets a lot of Flack.
- 19:07And welcome back to the show, Reese.
- 19:10And, you know, but what are you, what are your thoughts?
- 19:12We'll start with TJ. Yeah, I mean, I think, I think,
- 19:21you know, Pekko is has been riding a Ducati for a good long
- 19:24time. He's been the champion.
- 19:26So he's been, you know, putting the ends and out of that.
- 19:29So if if the talks like that, it should be like based around his
- 19:34riding style. But, you know, for for this
- 19:38year, I don't know if Mark and his riding style is if they
- 19:44developed more around him because, you know, they're just
- 19:47getting more WS and, you know, if you're winning, you have to
- 19:51go with what's what's, what's working.
- 19:53And so whoever is not doing good, you got to all right, this
- 19:57is what's working. So you got to figure out what's
- 19:59working. So Tycho is just not not it's
- 20:02not working for him going that route.
- 20:04She used to like, you know, send his way and his pace and, and,
- 20:11and it's just not working that way.
- 20:12But yeah, I think the the bike is, you know, I don't know who
- 20:17is who is balled around, but. I think, yeah, I just think that
- 20:22it's it's all how Mark set it up basically of how it's been
- 20:27winning. And you know how they did with
- 20:32the Honda, you know, like we were saying is like they they
- 20:35they developing his style. So now no one can really ride
- 20:38the bike. So they got to kind of start
- 20:40from scratch. So yeah, I don't know what the
- 20:43Ducati's problem is. The one good thing is that they
- 20:45have a lot of bikes out there, no matter what, that there
- 20:48always will be in the top five. Somehow, somehow, some way,
- 20:52another Ducati rider will end up pulling it up, yeah.
- 20:55You, you might have a point there for sure, Reese, man,
- 21:00let's, let's, let's, let's talk to you.
- 21:04Let's talk to you, man. We're we're talking about
- 21:06Aprilia first before, so you might miss that.
- 21:08So you might want to talk about Aprilia a little bit.
- 21:11Just how you know they have it together, although they they're
- 21:15still struggling on the start and stuff like that.
- 21:18They seem to be the most consistent bike this season,
- 21:22even though, you know, Raul had to find his way mentally, I
- 21:26believe. And maybe he just needed to be
- 21:29around different riders. I, I mean, Aleish Espragro it,
- 21:32it might be tough for somebody to talk to because he's so
- 21:34intense last year and stuff like that on the Aprilia.
- 21:38But any thoughts on Aprilia and what they were able to do this
- 21:41weekend and how competitive they were despite Bazecki's crash on
- 21:46Sunday? I mean, no, I mean, Bazecki was
- 21:50very competitive. I mean, he was one of the
- 21:52fastest guys out there. I mean, besides his mental
- 21:55breakdown of running in the back of Marquez, I mean, the Aprilia
- 22:01looks solid. I mean, he's he's he is the
- 22:04number one guy, you know, for that squad right now.
- 22:08So besides, like I said, he is the number one squad.
- 22:11He's taking that bike, He's been there through the thick of it
- 22:15and he's actually put that bike well back on the top.
- 22:19So I got to give it to Aprilia because he's actually turned it
- 22:22almost into a development rider. So.
- 22:27Yeah, I, I, I agree with that. You know, and, you know, we kind
- 22:30of mentioned that a little bit and talked about, you know, is
- 22:33that just kind of the the tutelage of Rossi, right?
- 22:36Because, you know, you look at the the top five guys, it's the
- 22:40Marquez brothers and then it's the BR 46 Academy riders.
- 22:44And and so is it it's not just the fluke when you see what Luca
- 22:48is doing and all these other guys are doing and stuff like
- 22:50that. So do you think it's a little
- 22:51bit more of, you know, he like Besseki?
- 22:55He's just he, you know, he, he, he's in the best Academy that
- 22:58you could be in a Moto GPI. Mean he is in one of the top
- 23:02academies I mean you got to look at everybody that's come through
- 23:04there even you know JDV just come through there, but you just
- 23:09got to look at all the guys that's come through there.
- 23:11You know, Rossi is giving you the knowledge, but if you don't,
- 23:15you know, use it and it's not worth anything.
- 23:18But he's actually taking what he learns and probably utilizing it
- 23:23and talking to her. For you coming from, you know, a
- 23:26Ducati bike going into Aprilia factory bike and learning what
- 23:31works and what don't works and trying it and telling it all
- 23:34comes down to the rider being able to talk to your crew chief
- 23:37and explain exactly what he needs to be done and trust in
- 23:41your team to get it done. That's where it comes down
- 23:43because if you can't talk to your crew chief and explain what
- 23:47the problem is, you know, then it's not going to work.
- 23:50So, but he's actually doing really well and I think he's
- 23:53utilizing from what he learned from Rossi, same thing as
- 23:56Marini. Right, right.
- 23:58OK, no, I agree. And and you know, just to get
- 24:00you caught up now. Yeah.
- 24:01So is is is this Ducati had a rough weekend overall, is Ducati
- 24:05messing up? I mean, it seems like the 24
- 24:08Viking is the best, is the best Ducati to date.
- 24:12You know what, what are your thoughts?
- 24:14Or is it just conditions in Indonesia?
- 24:18Like, you know, a lot of them, even Mark has struggled.
- 24:22I think it was a little bit of both.
- 24:23I think the conditions were a little crappy because I mean, if
- 24:25you look at a lot of people going down, there were a lot of
- 24:27bikes going down. And I think that the the 25 bike
- 24:31is one of the worst bikes versus the 24.
- 24:35You could have actually what they call over development the
- 24:38bike, you could have overdid it and take you need to step back a
- 24:42little bit and go back to the 24 platform.
- 24:45So I think that's where they're at.
- 24:49I think that's why, like you said, Alex Marquez doesn't even
- 24:51want the bike. He wants to stay where he's at
- 24:53on the bike. He's on Pekka is just, I think
- 24:58Pekka just threw in the towel. You know, I think he's pretty
- 25:01much done for the season. Marquez struggled this weekend a
- 25:05little bit. That's the first time I've ever
- 25:07seen him struggle that much. So, but yeah, I think it's, I
- 25:11think it's one of those things where the bike is just
- 25:13overdeveloped and it needs to revamp itself and pretty much
- 25:17start from that 24 mark, yeah. Yeah, I, I, I agree, Lewis, man,
- 25:23you heard all that. But you know, what are your
- 25:25thoughts is is Ducati messing up?
- 25:27Do we? Do we?
- 25:28When you go over to Italy, you need to go to the factory and
- 25:31and and tell some people who you are.
- 25:33No, I think they know who I am now.
- 25:40I don't think they're having any problems specifically.
- 25:43I mean, obviously the 25 bikes got its challenges and we see
- 25:48the guys that are on the 25 bikes sometimes have little
- 25:51flashes of brilliance and then struggle mightily.
- 25:55Obviously Marquez, because of his riding style and his
- 25:58adaptiveness to overcome issues, has been able to maybe mask some
- 26:03of the problems because if you look at everybody's on the
- 26:05actual 25 bike outside of Marquez, nobody's been
- 26:09consistent on that bike. You know, the, the guys on a 24
- 26:12bikes have been way more consistent.
- 26:14You know, Petco hasn't been able to put it together.
- 26:16He had one good weekend in Japan and then somebody, you know,
- 26:20didn't tighten the Val stem cap 100% tight this weekend.
- 26:24And obviously the bike was unrideable.
- 26:26You know, he went from from first to worst in in one week,
- 26:29man, which is unheard of. I I don't even understand how
- 26:32that happens. Yeah, no, I I agree.
- 26:34Yeah, I don't. I like, you know, and I give it,
- 26:38I mean, look, I give it to these guys, right?
- 26:40Because they're, they're as a, you know what Ross, he's done
- 26:44because they keep a tight lip for the most part.
- 26:46I mean, they don't, you know, we've yet to see Bagnaya give
- 26:49the bike a finger, right? So.
- 26:53I'm sure he's wanted to, but he also understands if that that
- 26:56finger is going to come back and get stuck somewhere.
- 26:58He don't want to get stuck in his contract because, you know,
- 27:02it only takes a couple of times pissing the wrong people off to
- 27:05find yourself outside of racing, outside of a good ride, you
- 27:08know, in a third tier team, not making the money you want to
- 27:11make or the results that you want to compete for.
- 27:15But yeah, there's definitely something about the 25 bike
- 27:18that's not working. And Mark was the only one that
- 27:21was able to mask whatever the problem was because of his
- 27:23riding style and his ability to adapt.
- 27:26And going into next year, I don't know what the solution is,
- 27:29man. I don't, you know, I don't think
- 27:30anybody that's on a 24 bike is going to want the 25 bike next
- 27:33year and I doubt the Ducati is going to want to keep pushing
- 27:37the 24 bike in 26. And did the 19 back then, yeah.
- 27:44But but how long do you also want to do that?
- 27:46Because remember, man, we're just, we're just less than, you
- 27:49know what, 20 months away from the 27 regulations kicking in
- 27:55and now you got a whole new, new problem.
- 27:58You know, so do you want to try to fix all the problems in one
- 28:02year for a bike that you're going to scrap?
- 28:03Because the following year you have to make so many changes to
- 28:05the package to adapt to the newer dynamics, the new motor,
- 28:09the new tires, the new, this, the new, I mean, there's so many
- 28:12new things. How much money does anybody want
- 28:15to invest in 26 knowing that that bike that they're
- 28:18developing in 26 is going to go right in the trash in 27?
- 28:21Right. No, I agree.
- 28:22I agree. Everybody write.
- 28:24Everybody write a 24 and that's it.
- 28:27Yeah, I, I, I, I agree with that.
- 28:31Let's talk about Honda. Honda, man.
- 28:35You know, I listen when, when I think Luka Marini was leading
- 28:38the race at one point or second, second, I I was rooting for him.
- 28:42I was, I was rooting for him outside of Aprilia.
- 28:46I mean, Honda's, you know, when we were when Zarko won at the
- 28:49French, you know, and, and kinda was, you know, going into Q2
- 28:52before that and stuff like that, we were like, OK, you know,
- 28:55they're going, they're going to do something.
- 28:56They should be really pretty good.
- 28:58But I didn't expect them to be doing as well as they're doing.
- 29:01Granted, you know, mayor crashed out, which is unfortunate, but
- 29:04they were very competitive this weekend.
- 29:07You know, I think they have a good chance to to do do really
- 29:10well at the next few rounds. What are your thoughts, TJ, on
- 29:14how Honda did and is doing? And you know, it's, it's safe to
- 29:19say they're the third best manufacturer in the championship
- 29:22at the moment. Yeah, no, it's always good to
- 29:26see like improvement. So from from where they started,
- 29:31from the beginning of the year, they were pretty much dead last,
- 29:34like the worst. And slowly but surely they've
- 29:38been improving. The second-half of the season.
- 29:41We've seen Luca Marini come back from his injury and he's been
- 29:44riding really well. Same with Mir for some reason.
- 29:48Mir still unfortunately, he has his incidence in the races, but
- 29:52he's been riding really well. It's pretty impressive to see.
- 29:56Zarko had a really, really tough weekend this weekend.
- 29:59I think he crashed like 3 or 4 times.
- 30:02Somehow he was still able to finish the GP, but I would say
- 30:08Luca Marini is definitely going to stand out from where he from
- 30:12what we know he's capable of and showing to do right now.
- 30:18And for him to be leading the race.
- 30:20Like, you know, sometimes when you see a rider that hasn't been
- 30:23upfront for so long, you like, do they know what to do right
- 30:26now or like, you know how they're going to like, you know,
- 30:29sometimes the riders like go too hard and then they crash out
- 30:33because, you know, they're not used to it.
- 30:34But it was cool to see even though he couldn't hold it.
- 30:37But you see the potential. Yeah, I agree.
- 30:42There's definitely potential there for Luca and I and I think
- 30:45these guys are going to, I don't know if they'll win before the
- 30:47end of the season, but they're they're really close.
- 30:50What are your thoughts, Reese, on Honda, what they're doing
- 30:52right now? I mean, whatever Honda's doing,
- 30:55I mean they're one of the only the the Japan brands that has
- 30:59got getting their act together and coming back to the stage and
- 31:02coming pretty much like we say, coming back to the party to come
- 31:06up to the top that front guys. So whatever they're doing, I
- 31:09mean, I commend them for their work.
- 31:11Took them a while, but I mean from Luca to mirror, I mean
- 31:16they're got those guys are coming up.
- 31:18I mean, I think that, you know, this year it shows what they're
- 31:22possibly able to capable to do. And I think next year, I think
- 31:26if they keep going in the direction they're going, I think
- 31:28next year, those are going to be some guys that you you got to
- 31:31look out for. Those are being with, you know,
- 31:33your dark horses right there. I think they may be the ones to
- 31:36come up and spoil a couple parties.
- 31:38So I think they're I think they're on on the right path to
- 31:43to going back towards the top. And you know, as far as the
- 31:46other, you know, the other guys is all way back there and KTM
- 31:49seen lost away. But I don't know, I think
- 31:52Honda's on there on the verge of coming back.
- 31:55Yeah, I agree. I I think Honda is definitely
- 31:58there and close and it's nice to see Mia not crash as much even
- 32:02though, you know, he crashed out in in the main race.
- 32:07You know, that's the part that's crazy.
- 32:09We'll move to Lewis. Lewis, what are your thoughts on
- 32:13what Honda is doing and you know is it is Mia going to crash
- 32:19again before the season is over? That's a guarantee he's going to
- 32:23crash again at least a few more times before the season's over.
- 32:28But crash or not, I mean, his results are starting to show
- 32:30through. You know, he's starting to be
- 32:32competitive. He's starting to finish on a
- 32:34regular basis, a little bit higher up in that top 10, not
- 32:38just on the cusp of the top 1011 and 12 and so forth, but
- 32:42actually in the top ten. And he was starting to creep his
- 32:44way up in the closer to the top five man.
- 32:47And that's what you want to see. And Marini, same thing, man.
- 32:50You know, next year Honda's game plan is right before the start
- 32:53of the year, all the riders go to Japan, crash and it all come
- 32:58back and they're super good again for some reason.
- 33:01Like that's what it took is Marina to crash during the
- 33:06Super, the, what do you call it, endurance race, never actually
- 33:09race. Take a couple weeks off and come
- 33:11back and all of a sudden he's a great rider again.
- 33:13And me, I got to be sitting here saying, look, man, I'm better
- 33:16than all these guys. I was sunning all of them in
- 33:18Moto 2 because he was. He was.
- 33:20He was murdering them in Moto 2. Well, not only was he murdering
- 33:23them, he's he is a Moto GP champion.
- 33:27He's got the number one plate sitting in his house on his
- 33:29mantle. Like he's got to look at that
- 33:31sometimes and be like, you know what, I'm the best guy on the
- 33:34Honda. I need to step up and be that
- 33:37number one guy. I'm the number one guy on paper.
- 33:39But championships aren't one on paper.
- 33:42They have to go out. You have to go out there and
- 33:44perform. And he's starting to do that.
- 33:45And hopefully if he can stay rubber side down, he'll gain
- 33:50some more points. I mean, right now he's wearing
- 33:53the standings. Is he outside the top ten in the
- 33:55overall standings? I'll tell you in a second, hang
- 33:58on. I want to say he was like, last
- 34:00time I checked, I want to say he was like just outside the top
- 34:04ten in the standings. He's in the, he's 15th in the
- 34:09standings. So he's still got a ways to go
- 34:12to catch Zarko. Zarko is still the top Honda
- 34:15rider in the standings. He's #10 and even Marini's in
- 34:18front of Johan Meer at this point.
- 34:22Yeah, I mean he, he. Might be he could catch Marini
- 34:25and he could catch Zarko. Yeah, I was going to say he
- 34:28could catch a Zarko. Yeah, he, he, it's possible he
- 34:30can catch because Zarko's crashing too.
- 34:32So, you know, Zarko's been crashing for, for, for a little
- 34:35bit now. So, you know, so anything is
- 34:39possible there. Let's talk about KTM.
- 34:42You know, it, it's, you know, Bastionini is up and down.
- 34:47I, I feel like they need Benialis.
- 34:48Benialis is the glue to keep these, these guys steady.
- 34:52Cause I, I think, I think Vinyalis knows how to get the
- 34:57bike dialed in better than any of the other three riders on,
- 35:01on, on on the team. Pedro was close.
- 35:05Pedro, I mean, he had a chance. You know, I always said that
- 35:11Aldiger was the better rider out of Pedro in him, even though
- 35:15Aldiger had to go from the European Championship where
- 35:18Acosta just came through Moto 3 and and got the big shine per
- 35:23SE. But what are your thoughts, TJ,
- 35:26on where KTM is that is, is Acosta doing too much?
- 35:31Because you know, he's, he's, he's, he's crashing or trying
- 35:35to, you know, win. I mean KTM, I mean, at this
- 35:42point, I don't know, since they're up there down, they're
- 35:44up there down. Like you said, they do need
- 35:46their their glue piece there, the Maverick, you know, to be
- 35:52the veteran and kind of show them possibly what's needed, you
- 35:56know, But yeah, I think they're they're struggling.
- 35:59I think they kind of need a Pedro Costa typewriter.
- 36:02Like, you know, someone that's a little aggressive that would
- 36:05actually test the limits and and can show you like what's the
- 36:10limit and can dial you down a little bit.
- 36:14Sometimes there's demeanor, his attitude part needs to change.
- 36:17But I think you kind of need an aggressive writer.
- 36:20Like, you know, Bashanini is more of like a laid back type.
- 36:24I think it's kind of hard to get information out of him.
- 36:27I'm not sure how he really speaks to, you know, his boss
- 36:30and all that stuff. But, you know, he he doesn't
- 36:33really find his way until the second-half of the race.
- 36:35And sometimes he's really not around.
- 36:37So you need that Pedro to to, you know, keep you afloat and
- 36:44keep it exciting. And it was good to see out of
- 36:47gear and Pedro bat on each other as they were talking about their
- 36:50modal 2 days and stuff like that.
- 36:51So you see the future is bright between them two.
- 36:56But I think Pedro's as long as he stays more humble and keep
- 37:00his his and his his aggressiveness down.
- 37:03And when he's in in hot water, don't like, you know, show his
- 37:08emotions, just keep him inside and just ride.
- 37:11I think it'd be fine, take them. I just, I just don't know what
- 37:15they're, what they're really doing.
- 37:17I don't know if they're just on a budget.
- 37:20Obviously we know what they were going through before all this,
- 37:22but yeah, they just can't seem to get it together.
- 37:25It's it's not the chain, it's something else.
- 37:28And yeah. Right.
- 37:31I mean, Reese, I mean, how many, how much time do we do we as
- 37:34writers give you all engineers? I mean, you're a writer, but how
- 37:37much time do we give you all before we start, you know,
- 37:40leaving popcorn in your car and turning the heat off?
- 37:46Because KTM, it seems like, you know, they're struggling in the
- 37:49second-half of the of, of the races with grip.
- 37:53It seems like all the riders, you know, struggle with that.
- 37:56And and no matter how they fight, that's that's kind of
- 37:59like the Achilles heel. I mean, yeah, it is their
- 38:03Achilles heel. I mean, like it.
- 38:04Like it. Again, as TJ said, you said it
- 38:08seemed like KTM has lost their way and Viniales is that glue to
- 38:14actually figure out what the bike needs and how to develop
- 38:18that bike. He is that guy because when
- 38:21Viniales was there, he was one of the fastest KTM guys out
- 38:24there and it was like everybody else was following suit.
- 38:29Without him there, no one's there to give any kind of
- 38:33guidance. He's like the the OG that knows
- 38:37the game, knows how to develop a bike, knows how to set the bike
- 38:41up when the tires drop or when the tires are new.
- 38:45He knows how they what the bike needs and there's nobody there
- 38:51to do that. Acosta just he's pretty much one
- 38:54of the young kids that really didn't come through like the 125
- 38:58days with the electronics, no electronics.
- 39:01I mean, so it's all everything's electronics.
- 39:03It's just everything now is just twist the throttle and go for
- 39:06the kids nowadays and let the electronics do the rest.
- 39:10But it's like with Acosta, he's he's almost like a young
- 39:13vanilla. Sometimes he's either there or
- 39:15not there. He's a hot head.
- 39:17It's like, it seems like a lot of the blame is on the bike.
- 39:21Yes, but then it's you, you know, as a rider, you have to
- 39:24step back and take the blame for yourself.
- 39:26Like I could have did this better.
- 39:27I could have did this better or I could have let the tires come
- 39:30to, you know, settle myself in and then go hard at the end or
- 39:35however you need to do it. But it's just nobody there to
- 39:39help with KTM. And it's just like there's
- 39:41certain things that it's just, I don't know what mistakes they're
- 39:45making. It's like Bassini needs nowhere
- 39:48to be found. Chains are popping off.
- 39:51I I mean I I'm waiting for plastics to start falling off
- 39:54going down the front or wing lifts to fall off.
- 39:57Is it time for the CEOCEO to do like the Titans player to say,
- 40:01you know, we're we're playing like trash and that's not his
- 40:03exact words, but it's the Titans like we're better.
- 40:09Than something but. Right now we, we ain't just, we
- 40:11ain't there. Yeah, it's, you know, and you
- 40:15just, they're not there no more. It's just they're, you know, I'm
- 40:18surprised I've seen Brad Bender up there this this this past
- 40:21weekend. I mean, I was glad to see him
- 40:24there. I mean, Brad Bender is one of
- 40:26the guys that's had more chances than anyone.
- 40:29I'm I'm like, you should be further along than what you are,
- 40:32but he's not. And it's, it's there's, there's
- 40:36got to be some kind of revamp in the team itself.
- 40:40Right. And, and, you know, I think that
- 40:42I think Brad Bender had not necessarily has what Raul has,
- 40:47but when Pedro came to KTMI, think that rattled Brad a little
- 40:51bit. And, and, and, and I and, and
- 40:53he, he, he was just crashing a lot since since, you know, like
- 40:57just struggling a lot. And I, and I just wonder if
- 40:59it's, you know, sometimes, you know, you know, as when you try
- 41:03to stay Switzerland and neutral, if you're a boss and, and you
- 41:06got, you know, people that that are looking up to you, you can't
- 41:09show favoritism. And you know, if you're all
- 41:12extra excited when when one rider's coming in the building
- 41:15and you're not as excited as the other when the other rider comes
- 41:17in the building and people see that or the rider sees that,
- 41:20they're going to feel a way about that kind of things,
- 41:22right? Right.
- 41:24I mean, I mean, it would rattle anybody's cage when you're the
- 41:26old, the, the guy that's been there for a couple of years and
- 41:29now you got a new kid that's, you know, making headlines and,
- 41:33you know, they're, they're paving the way for him.
- 41:35Yeah, that's going to rattle anybody's cage because, you
- 41:38know, he, he could take my seat, he could take my job.
- 41:41So you're trying to go above, you know, ride almost above your
- 41:45head and push it to another limit.
- 41:48So that's going to rattles anybody's cage.
- 41:50You know there there's only one employee of the month, right?
- 41:54Right. That's pretty much it.
- 41:55There's only one employee of the month, only one top rider, a A
- 41:58rider and AB rider and I don't want to be that B rider.
- 42:02No doubt, no doubt, Lewis, man, we're going to we're going to
- 42:05keep it moving and, and, and get you in here.
- 42:08Yeah. What are your thoughts on KTM,
- 42:10what Acosta is doing? Just the struggles.
- 42:14I mean, you know, I, I think that Bialis's shoulder is a lot
- 42:17more serious. I think Bialis might be done for
- 42:20the season. They just don't want to say.
- 42:23Yeah, I mean, when when they pulled him out this weekend, I
- 42:26mean, that's a long way to fly, to not ride.
- 42:28So, you know, I don't know how serious his injury is or how
- 42:32it's become or maybe just from the course of riding, if
- 42:35something's gotten worse, you know, they typically don't like
- 42:38to give too many details, but you know, I, I hate to see a
- 42:43rider injured, especially somebody that has the talent he
- 42:45has. You know, I, everybody knows I
- 42:47think he's a basket case. He's either 100% on or 100% off
- 42:51like this. You know, he's a heck Doctor
- 42:53Jekyll, Mr. Hyde kind of rider. But for KTM, he's the only one
- 42:59that's been doing anything positive this year.
- 43:01He kind of put them in a position and gave them some
- 43:03setup and gave them some ideas and, and help them find their
- 43:06way that I still think they're a little bit lost.
- 43:09Obviously you can see it with the up and down season of their
- 43:13riders. And you know, at some tracks
- 43:15they look great. Most tracks they don't look
- 43:17great. One track, one guy looks great,
- 43:19the other three look horrible. Like it's, it's a, it's, it's
- 43:23really interesting to see a team that technically all the riders
- 43:28are on the same bike. They're on the same package.
- 43:31They're even in the same damn suits.
- 43:33You know, even though they're on two different teams, there are
- 43:37technically four guys racing for a factory team pretty much.
- 43:41And to see four guys struggle like that is crazy.
- 43:47You know, especially, you know, thinking about, I mean, Pedro
- 43:50Costa hasn't been with them too long, but, you know, we know
- 43:53that the talent that he is, Vinales hasn't been, you know,
- 43:57this is his first year with them, but we know the talent
- 44:00that he is. I think the only person that's a
- 44:03real question mark on that team is Brad Bender.
- 44:06I think Brad Binder just kind of leads to look in the mirror and
- 44:08decide do I want to keep riding for this team or do I?
- 44:11When this contract is up, do I really, is it time for me to
- 44:14move on? Is it time for me to look for
- 44:16another team to ride with? Because I think he's kind of
- 44:19gotten to as far as he's going to get with KTMI.
- 44:22Think the bike and him this is as far as they're going to get
- 44:24unless the bike does some some incredible jump in technology in
- 44:28the next 24 months. Bad Bender needs to sit down,
- 44:32look in the mirror and say, hey, do I want to be the perennial
- 44:35KTM guy for the rest of my life? Be that loyal always with the
- 44:39team. You know, once I retire, maybe I
- 44:41become a test rider, I become a brand ambassador or something
- 44:44like that. Or am I here to try to win?
- 44:46Am I here to try to get a number one plate and hanging in my
- 44:49house or or am I content with just riding around for 11th
- 44:53place for the rest of my life? All right, it's only Brad Pekko
- 44:56and Quadrara so far that's been on the same manufacturer since
- 45:00they got in Moto GP. Yeah, and we've seen Quadrara,
- 45:03you know, he's constantly pushing Yamaha, you know, and I
- 45:06and I think he's going to give them one last opportunity.
- 45:09But I think come 2027, if that Yamaha is not working the way he
- 45:12wants it to work, it's time for him to even start looking in the
- 45:15mirror because Honda's outperforming them right now.
- 45:18And that's not something that I would two years ago, I would
- 45:21have never said that, that Honda's going to outperform
- 45:23Yamaha, right, Right. That's crazy.
- 45:26Yeah, but let's Speaking of Yamaha.
- 45:28I mean, look, man, I I was rooting for this is a good race
- 45:31weekend. I'm not going to lie.
- 45:33You know, there's something about seeing 6 Ducatis in for
- 45:35one through 6. I got to throw that out there.
- 45:37But at the same time, it, it was, it was a pretty good
- 45:41weekend and I was. And when Renz was out there for
- 45:44a little bit out front, man, I'm like, he, he might be able to
- 45:47get away. It was like 17 like 7 laps, 7
- 45:50laps left, 8 laps left. And he was still competitive on
- 45:54that, on that Yamaha. What are your thoughts on Wrens
- 45:57that flash? Is it just one of those things
- 46:01or, or is he starting to come back into his own?
- 46:04I mean, he's not limping as much either too.
- 46:06What are your thoughts, TJ on on on on what Yamaha is doing and,
- 46:10and how they were and and and be and, you know, being in front of
- 46:12Cuatroara too, because that's that's the first.
- 46:15I mean, I think I think Rez is just trying to still show that
- 46:19he got it, but I don't think he got it anymore.
- 46:22I mean, he's still he's still a good rider.
- 46:24He's still a good rider. I mean, I know he's hurt.
- 46:26He has the broken leg he's trying to recover from for a
- 46:30little bit, but he's always been in the back like like the back
- 46:35back like the end, you know, So like not even getting any
- 46:39points, not even getting any points.
- 46:40So like it was, it was shocking to see him in front of
- 46:44Quarterano and being in the front and he did it for like you
- 46:48know, he did it for like 2 laps maybe.
- 46:51And then whatever tired choice he had, I don't know if he ran
- 46:55the soft rear, but yeah, just he just slipped down from 1st to
- 47:0110th like another two laps. So two or three laps.
- 47:04So like it was it was kind of weird, but it was cool to see.
- 47:09But yeah, I don't know. I think he's just still trying
- 47:11to show that he has it and don't give up on me kind of kind of
- 47:15thing. But I don't know what else he
- 47:18can prove. Like if it if he has a good
- 47:20package through when you see him back in the top ten.
- 47:23I don't know. Right, right.
- 47:25Yeah, I agree. I I don't, I don't, I don't know
- 47:27that either. What are your thoughts Theresa
- 47:29on Yamaha, what rinse did I think?
- 47:31I think he had the soft tires, pretty competitive and nice to
- 47:36mix it up with the KTM, you know.
- 47:40What are your thoughts? Where the hell did he come from?
- 47:43That was my question. I'm just keeping honest.
- 47:46I was like, where the where the hell did you come from?
- 47:48That's where was that all year long and and everything else.
- 47:52But like, like TJ said, I mean, it's almost like he's just
- 47:55trying to to prove a point that he still got it, which I don't
- 47:59think he's still got it. I think he's one of the guys
- 48:01that it's like it's it's time to look in the mirror for him and
- 48:07and say, Hey, I don't have it anymore.
- 48:11If this injury took it out of me, can I still do this at this
- 48:16high of a level? And, you know, is it time for me
- 48:20to move on to green of pastures or a super bike or something
- 48:24else or anything like that? But it's just I mean, that was
- 48:27great to see him up there finally.
- 48:28I mean, that was that was something different.
- 48:31But I mean, just it's almost like the same thing as Pekka.
- 48:35What Pekka did the last race? I mean, it's once in a blue moon
- 48:38that you do it. I mean you can't just say I'm
- 48:40going to do it one time here and 20 more times not.
- 48:45I mean you've been back there for the whole season fighting
- 48:47with guys in in 15 place and in the last place and you've been
- 48:52like the worst Yamaha rider all season.
- 48:55So you know me, I'm like great, you did it.
- 48:59It was good to see you up there. But you know, is it a little too
- 49:03late so. A little too late.
- 49:08What are your thoughts, Lewis on on on Rin's Yamaha, Did they
- 49:15switch bikes? Because, you know, we saw Peko
- 49:17tried more with Deli's bike in the test and so forth.
- 49:23Do you think like, you know, like TJ is saying or Smitty has
- 49:27said, these, these guys need to be out of Moto GP if they keep
- 49:30finishing at 15th or it's just, it's just giving him time to to,
- 49:35you know, to sort out the bike and.
- 49:37Also. The Yamaha is not the best bike.
- 49:40I don't want to hear nobody disrespecting Sideshow Bob, all
- 49:43right? The Sideshow Bob Moto GP You
- 49:46better need put some respect on his name, right?
- 49:48I agree, my daughter's a big fan of Rin's.
- 49:53I I'm a big fan of Rinz. I've always loved his riding
- 49:55style. He's got that smooth, silky
- 49:57smooth riding style like that, just fast corner speed, almost
- 50:01like Jorge Lorenzo ish riding style.
- 50:05And and he's very upright like whereas other guys are leaning
- 50:08and dragging elbows. If you look at him, he's a
- 50:10little bit more conventional in his upper body riding style.
- 50:15But I do think that whatever this injury is that's been
- 50:17nagging him, this leg injury, I think it's taking a lot longer
- 50:21for him to heal. And it might just be that, you
- 50:23know what, man, I don't bounce as as much as I as easily as I
- 50:27did when I was a kid. You know, he's not a kid
- 50:29anymore. He's a little bit older, he's a
- 50:30married man, he's got kids and it's just taking him a little
- 50:33bit longer to heal. And I'm hoping, praying that he
- 50:36continues to heal and he can come back and be as competitive
- 50:40as he can be for the package he's on, because on another
- 50:43package, I think he'd be even more competitive.
- 50:46I don't think that the guy is has lost any skill.
- 50:49I don't think he's lost anything.
- 50:51I think he's just been injured and he's not on a great package
- 50:54and he just has to work around what he's got.
- 50:56You know, don't go out there killing yourself.
- 50:59Don't do a Mark Marquez if the bike's not underneath you to to
- 51:02to to do anything worth doing. Right.
- 51:06I, I, I agree there. I, I think that Renz is again in
- 51:10Moto 2, he was killing these guys and you know, and you know,
- 51:15on the Suzuki, he was nice. I mean, I know Mayor won, but he
- 51:18was nice. He was nice.
- 51:20Man, silky, silky. I mean, I still think back to
- 51:25that one race in Silverstone. Where he?
- 51:30Where he overtook mark on the very last call.
- 51:32I mean he shot that Suzuki out of that corner like it was shot
- 51:35out of a cannon man and I was just like that's that's
- 51:40impressive. I like that like that was
- 51:43definitely the day that I was like wow man, this dude's got.
- 51:46I always knew he had skill back from the Moto 2 days and and
- 51:50it's time in Moto GP. But you know, I, I just hope
- 51:53that he can get over whatever injuries he has.
- 51:55I hope whatever package Yamaha rolls out next year is even 5%
- 52:01better than this year. So they get out of that, you
- 52:04know, seller that they're in right now because the only
- 52:06manufacturer worse than them right now is KTM in my eyes.
- 52:10And that's not good company to have.
- 52:12You know, the only company that's worse than you is one
- 52:14that's almost out of business. That's not where you want to be.
- 52:17No at all at all, which is which is and it's not good for, you
- 52:23know, you got top rock coming in and stuff like that.
- 52:26So you definitely want to you know, obviously, you know, we
- 52:30need we know all the manufacturers are doing
- 52:32everything to to get better, right.
- 52:35So I'm not going to sit here and say not doing it, but it is
- 52:37tough when when they struggle and it's tough arises to keep
- 52:41the confidence. Anything you guys want to touch
- 52:44on before we can talk about Miller, but anything you want to
- 52:47touch on before we talk about a little bit about Motor Moto 2
- 52:51and what's going on there I. Think that's it for for GP.
- 52:57All right. I think that's it.
- 53:00Was it was great. It was great to watch races
- 53:02though, right? I mean, it was it was good
- 53:03racing that you know, good, you know, good passing.
- 53:05Altiger was on fire, Altiger winning.
- 53:08And, you know, Pedro hasn't done it.
- 53:10And, you know, as a rookie, Aldigir did it and that's huge.
- 53:14I mean, I, you know, that's, that's kind of, I mean, I'm glad
- 53:17we didn't brush off it. You know, the second youngest
- 53:21rider to do it. Does does this kind of like make
- 53:25you? And I guess it's more rhetorical
- 53:27for me. I don't know if it's I, I, I
- 53:29overlook all the shenanigans he's done in Moto 2 and when he
- 53:33first got to Moto GP and stuff like that.
- 53:36But what are you guys thoughts on Al de Gear winning the the GP
- 53:40race? I mean, I, you know, we all you
- 53:42got, you got to show up, you got to finish.
- 53:44But obviously it might have been different if Bez was was was up,
- 53:48kept it up on two wheels. But you know, for him to fight
- 53:51against Acosta, who was hungry, Raul was hungry, Renz, everybody
- 53:55was hungry, Goes once they saw Marquez and and and Bez go down,
- 53:59you know, everybody was trying to get in the club door first.
- 54:03And I mean, it is, it is good to see this guy finally, finally
- 54:08get on top, you know, podium. And I could just think it back
- 54:12when we talked to Eli on the show, he was ruled for out again
- 54:16to finally get a podium and he finally got it.
- 54:18You know Eli Eli already. Text me.
- 54:24But you know, it is so close to beating, you know, or getting
- 54:29past Mark Marquez's record for being the youngest rookie in the
- 54:33Sprint. I think it was or I don't know
- 54:36if he did pass it, but yeah, so absolutely congratulating.
- 54:42It does now show why Ducati chose him so early.
- 54:46He's very smart, just found his way.
- 54:48He didn't really kind of like jump into it and and try to just
- 54:53throw it out the window at first.
- 54:55It took him a little while to get it under his belt and he's
- 54:58been a little more consistent as of late, but this was well
- 55:02deserving and and what better chance when you know these guys
- 55:05go down. It's like you got to fulfill
- 55:07your opportunity when it defends itself and and to show the pace
- 55:12he had in the Sprint. I mean, I knew in the GP it was
- 55:15going to be another fight with him, so it was just fortunate
- 55:20for him that he didn't have Bezeki and Mark behind him, but
- 55:24it was good to see him pull it out.
- 55:27Right, right. What are your thoughts, Reese,
- 55:29on what Acosta did? I mean Aldegir did I mean, and
- 55:34in magnificent fashion too. Over 5 seconds.
- 55:38He he seems like he's he seems like he he's he's like, you
- 55:43know, as we were talking off air, like Bobby Fong is is, you
- 55:47know, you know, bended to go home, right?
- 55:49He, he, he's full gas and, and he, he doesn't have a take it
- 55:53easy button. And, and, and I, you kind of see
- 55:56that on Saturday, on Sunday and you see when he crashes out.
- 56:00I mean, yeah, you do see it. I mean, like, I remember back in
- 56:02a couple shows ago, I remember Lewis said it once this kid
- 56:07figures out how to go as fast on new tire, on brand new tires
- 56:12when they are used, he's going to be dangerous.
- 56:15And what he just showed in this race was what he is capable of
- 56:21doing. And it shows the level of talent
- 56:23that is in Moto GP, but it also shows a level of respect or
- 56:29who's in front of Bazecki and Marquez.
- 56:32Because it was almost like sharks in the water.
- 56:36Like the chum went in the water. And soon them two went out.
- 56:39It was like the dinner bell went off.
- 56:41Hey, we can finish from first. And everybody went full gas.
- 56:45So to to know that, you know, this kid can actually win and,
- 56:52and do what he did when Marquez is in there, it shows that he's
- 56:57he's ready to step up and come up the level, you know, later on
- 57:01and give him a couple more, a little more time and he's going
- 57:04to be there. Like I said, he's he can be a
- 57:07dangerous person once he figures out the new tires and do the
- 57:11same thing on worn down tires. Yeah, I, I agree, Lewis, man, I,
- 57:17I'll, before you talk about Furman, it seems like Acosta was
- 57:22listening to us because he kept that train pretty slow.
- 57:25I don't know how he did it when he kept that train pretty slow
- 57:29to keep all those guys in the mix.
- 57:31But, you know, touch on that a little bit on Acosta's ability
- 57:35to do that, but also what Furman has done as, as the youngest
- 57:39guy, because I mean, he already had the factory contract.
- 57:41He had the factory contract before he rode AGP bike.
- 57:45He kind of cruised in the, the, you know, his second year in, in
- 57:49Moto 2. I, I didn't think it was a good
- 57:51look for, for the team he was on.
- 57:53But obviously, you know, Ducati knew what they were doing and it
- 57:56seems like they got it figured out.
- 57:58I mean, there's a, there's a couple of different questions
- 58:00and to, to, to recap on that. So I mean, Acosta, we, we know
- 58:05that the KTM in a straight line is the fastest bike.
- 58:09So if you could slow everybody in the corners and then get on
- 58:14the gas, it's going to be real hard to pass because you got the
- 58:17fastest bike. You know, they got to get a
- 58:19drive out of the corner. If you're screwing up
- 58:20everybody's drive like somebody else.
- 58:28You know, it's hard to pass a bike that's got a lot of grunt
- 58:30when you can't get any head of steam underneath you to actually
- 58:33past it. So, you know, Acosta was riding
- 58:36a smart race. And but we saw what happens when
- 58:40a guy that doesn't have pace gets passed by a guy that does
- 58:43have pace. It quickly becomes very, very
- 58:47visually stunning how much pace that person didn't have.
- 58:50And what they were doing was they were trying to ride an
- 58:53intelligent ride, to ride around the problems they were having on
- 58:56the bike. But again, once Furman got out
- 58:58front, I mean, a 5 second lead in Moto GP is a 5 second lead,
- 59:02especially for your first race win.
- 59:04Because you got to think about it when you start, when you got
- 59:068 laps left and you're in the lead, you're thinking about just
- 59:10hitting your apex, hitting your corners, hitting your markers.
- 59:12It's not when you're done at 3 SEC, 3 laps left, you start
- 59:16thinking, oh shit, I might win. And that's where you start
- 59:20making these mental mistakes in those last three, two laps.
- 59:23That's when mental mistakes come in, especially when you got a
- 59:25lead like that. And he was able to manage it.
- 59:27He gave up a little bit of the lead in the last like lap or two
- 59:31just because he knew he had in his pocket.
- 59:33So he was pushing like 95% instead of 100%.
- 59:36And he was able to bring it home, man.
- 59:38And I've been saying for a while now that this kid, this kid was
- 59:41the truth. And he finally, you know, proved
- 59:44me right. You know, he was able to put the
- 59:45beginning of the race together with the end of the race and
- 59:48race a complete race and benefit from the ties when they're
- 59:52fresh, when the ties when they were worn.
- 59:54And and one last thing, I mean, this is this.
- 59:58Here's another Spaniard man. And this Spaniard is in the the
- 1:00:02MMM 93 Academy. He's part of the Marc Marquez
- 1:00:05Bros and the Marc Marquez Bros seem to be kind of touching a
- 1:00:11lot of guys in different classes that are from Spain that are
- 1:00:16kind of like getting underneath the Marc Marquez umbrella and
- 1:00:21learning from the Marquez brothers.
- 1:00:22And if you look at, you know. Other winners that won this
- 1:00:26weekend, these are again, guys from Spain that are very close
- 1:00:29to the Marquez brothers. So without having an official
- 1:00:33Marc Marquez Academy, it almost feels like Marc Marquez is
- 1:00:35starting to put together a little Spanish mafia of his own
- 1:00:39to go up against the Italian mafia.
- 1:00:41I I. I agree.
- 1:00:43I, I, I agree for sure. And on don't that note, you
- 1:00:47know, let's talk about Moto 2. Diego Marira.
- 1:00:52Yeah, impressive. I mean, you know, I think he
- 1:00:55might have one of the most impressive resumes coming into
- 1:00:59Moto GP, even though it hasn't been officially announced yet.
- 1:01:03But it seems like he's going to be on LCR next season.
- 1:01:07What are your thoughts on on how he's riding and how he's doing
- 1:01:11and who Gonzales getting disqualified?
- 1:01:15Are we are we getting a little bit too ridiculous with
- 1:01:17software? What are your what are your
- 1:01:20thoughts, TJ? Yeah, man, Diego, Diego's
- 1:01:24definitely riding great. And then it's just leading this
- 1:01:28championship up to a great finish.
- 1:01:31And yeah, he's only down 9 points and this is just a good
- 1:01:36ride. He's been riding really well
- 1:01:38like the race before he got on the podium.
- 1:01:41So I'm very excited to see what he can do for the rest of the
- 1:01:44season and for for next year if he does get that, see if that's
- 1:01:48true as far as the software goes, like I'm still confused on
- 1:01:54that. I think we was chatting about
- 1:01:55this, you know, out there, But you know, it's just like, I
- 1:02:00don't know if they're trying to get an advantage for like the
- 1:02:03the the tech guys, you know, because they know they're riders
- 1:02:06in in a championship contending moments.
- 1:02:10And I, I, I just don't know, like if it's a certain track, if
- 1:02:13it was a whoopsie, if it was like, I don't know, but it
- 1:02:18sucks. And you kind of ride now you you
- 1:02:20lose a lot of points now. Now you put your championship at
- 1:02:24stake. So we'll see what they can do
- 1:02:28next round. You know, now Aaron Connett, I
- 1:02:30don't know where he came from, but now he's kind of back in
- 1:02:33contention for the championship as well.
- 1:02:34So but yeah, that's like the second time we heard that this
- 1:02:38year. I think the last one was with
- 1:02:40Ayer Gore and the track house team.
- 1:02:43But obviously it has nothing to do with the rider.
- 1:02:46I just don't know behind the scenes like exactly what what
- 1:02:50the software really means if it has to be track by track or
- 1:02:55yeah, so still confused on that, but it's interesting.
- 1:02:58But I'm sure they won't do that again because they have 3 rounds
- 1:03:02left. Right, right, Reese man, I mean,
- 1:03:06how, how does this work with the software?
- 1:03:09Every every whoever pulls the the short straw goes in at night
- 1:03:12and do the upload. No, I know the software is
- 1:03:17usually done by track by track, I mean they usually kind of if
- 1:03:22it's every year, they kind of use the same like baseline setup
- 1:03:26from that track from last year. And it kind of just, you know,
- 1:03:30you kind of use that base that's like a baseline and then you can
- 1:03:33kind of use that and and kind of go from there to see where
- 1:03:37you're at and kind of tweak and tune from there.
- 1:03:40But I mean, sometimes these guys just a ride, like I said before,
- 1:03:44rider always swears he knows what he wants and he wants to
- 1:03:46put this in and it kind of gets lost in the software when they
- 1:03:50try to go so much and do so much and it kind of just gets messed
- 1:03:53up. And then by the time you get
- 1:03:56into it, it's too late and it's race time and it's all said and
- 1:04:00done. It's, you know, somebody wants
- 1:04:04every turn is good, but hey, turn 6, it's I need a little bit
- 1:04:08more traction here. But then when you put that
- 1:04:10traction in turn 6, now you messed up 789.
- 1:04:14So, so you know. It's not something where there's
- 1:04:18like two different version of something.
- 1:04:20It's just more the configurations in the software
- 1:04:22that people make that makes it non homologated in, in in in
- 1:04:27Gonzales instance or is it like separate software well.
- 1:04:31Sometimes you can do different software.
- 1:04:33You can do a map A map B depending on what the the data
- 1:04:37guy your, your, your engineer puts in there.
- 1:04:40So it's different, different map settings you can put in.
- 1:04:43But usually with the map settings, one is for dry, one's
- 1:04:46for wet, less power depending on what how they set it up.
- 1:04:51So if you're in a dry setting and you want maximum power,
- 1:04:54you're probably going or you have a setting probably for
- 1:04:57fresh tires and a map setting for the tire settings when they
- 1:05:01drop off. So it just you don't want to
- 1:05:04keep and you put the wrong setting in there while you're
- 1:05:06riding in your, you're kind of up shit's Creek without a paddle
- 1:05:09now, so. So you're saying that it's the
- 1:05:11writer's fault the software is wrong?
- 1:05:14Sometimes, sometimes it could be, it could be a setup error.
- 1:05:19It could just, it's just or it's not the communication.
- 1:05:21There's communication errors. It's like I'm saying one thing,
- 1:05:25but you, I really mean this. So what you told your crew
- 1:05:29chief, he's telling he's doing what you told him, but it's not
- 1:05:33y'all, y'all not matching up. OK, all right, I see that.
- 1:05:38Let's let's bring Lewis in. I know Lewis got got got a lot
- 1:05:41to add. What you thought the?
- 1:05:44Numbers, man, that's all me so as as the only.
- 1:05:49There has to be a button that says you know that don't enable,
- 1:05:53right? As the only Spanish speaking
- 1:05:56person on the pod today, I actually went into Spanish
- 1:06:02Sports Channel to try to get a little bit more information
- 1:06:04because the information on Moto GP was very generic.
- 1:06:08And what the Spanish media is reporting is that he was
- 1:06:12disqualified because he had a previous version of the software
- 1:06:16that's no longer homologated uploaded to his ECU.
- 1:06:19And that previous version of the software allows for more
- 1:06:22parameters that are no longer allowed to be modified with the
- 1:06:26current new homologated version of the software.
- 1:06:30So he had a little bit more up, up, down, down, left, right,
- 1:06:33left, right than anybody else because the previous version of
- 1:06:36the software had additional parameters that are no longer
- 1:06:39allowed to be modified in the new version of the software.
- 1:06:43So this isn't something that the writer did.
- 1:06:46This is something that a data guy or the team manager was
- 1:06:49like, hey, we're having some problems.
- 1:06:52If we upload this old software, we can fix these couple of areas
- 1:06:57where we're having problems because the parameters no longer
- 1:07:00exist. So let's see how it looks on the
- 1:07:02old software. Ah, it looks good in the old
- 1:07:04software. Oh, it looks better than a new
- 1:07:06software. When I turn around, you might
- 1:07:11hit the enter button. Turn around.
- 1:07:14Don't tell me what you did. So did did did they say that in
- 1:07:17Spanish? That part.
- 1:07:18They didn't say that in Spanish, but they were.
- 1:07:20The Spanish media was very, very pessimistic that it was an error
- 1:07:26because it was an error that benefits the rider it it's a
- 1:07:29benefit to the team. And you know, obviously it's why
- 1:07:33do you even have the old version of the software in there?
- 1:07:36I mean, I can understand you having it there, maybe to
- 1:07:39compare the data between this year and last year to try to see
- 1:07:42how to fix the data to be a little bit more in alignment.
- 1:07:46But then you're going to overwrite the software that's in
- 1:07:49the ECU with this software knowing that the version number
- 1:07:53is going to upload. I mean, you, your data guy, you
- 1:07:55know what happens when you upload a patch, It automatically
- 1:07:58has the patch history, automatically has what the build
- 1:08:01number is. And if this is something that
- 1:08:03Moto, you know that Moto GP goes through all the bikes and checks
- 1:08:07this. They do this because they want
- 1:08:09to make sure there's parity, especially in that particular
- 1:08:13Moto 2, because it's, it's all about parity there.
- 1:08:15Everybody has the same motor, everybody has the same tires.
- 1:08:18You know, you can do a lot of change with the chassis, but you
- 1:08:20at least want to have a base setting that everybody has to
- 1:08:23work from, right? And if you have that extra
- 1:08:25advantage, it is an extra advantage.
- 1:08:27Right and and it's something we we, we may not know cuz is it
- 1:08:30every bite get tested or is it random?
- 1:08:33Cuz if it's random then you know they might.
- 1:08:36Luck of the draw. He could have been using it for
- 1:08:38for, for a lot of different races whenever he had problems.
- 1:08:41Yeah, it's, I mean, I, I would like to say it's something that
- 1:08:44they probably do at the tech inspection after the race
- 1:08:47because they obviously they check the fuel after the race,
- 1:08:51they check the ECU after the race and there's probably a few
- 1:08:53more things just for the homologation to make sure that
- 1:08:56they check in the post race inspection.
- 1:09:00We see that in Motor America. We see that everywhere after the
- 1:09:02race. All the bikes go into the tech
- 1:09:05garage and it's run by the organization and they check, you
- 1:09:09know, fuel and this and that. And you know, Reese will tell
- 1:09:12you, I mean, there's been guys in Motor America that have been
- 1:09:15found to have non homologated fuel because they use the
- 1:09:18container that was contaminated with a different type of fuel.
- 1:09:24All of a sudden they do a fuel check and now the fuel is not
- 1:09:27100% your fuel and you get DQ D or you get points or something
- 1:09:30like that. So sometimes there are small
- 1:09:32errors that can happen, but an ECU error, I mean somebody
- 1:09:35physically has to hit the enter button and upload that software.
- 1:09:39Right. Unless it normally is a random
- 1:09:41check, normally is random checks or it's like the first three
- 1:09:44guys or whatever they want to do and it just hey, we want to
- 1:09:48instead of doing a normal check, they want to go a little deeper
- 1:09:51and dive in fuels and Pistons and stuff like that.
- 1:09:55Or somebody protests, somebody says, hey, you know what, man,
- 1:09:58this, this guy seems to have a little too much hot sauce going
- 1:10:01down that front straightaway. I mean, we're supposed to all be
- 1:10:03on the same bikes, but he, it seems like he got a little bit
- 1:10:06extra check his fuel, check this, check that.
- 1:10:09And then all of a sudden, you know.
- 1:10:12Could be a protest I I was. Going to bring that up, Yeah.
- 1:10:16Because it could be a protest, because, I mean, we could do
- 1:10:18that at club level. So, you know, yeah.
- 1:10:21I never did that. I never did that.
- 1:10:24The fact that you. Said.
- 1:10:28I never, I never had his motor torn down.
- 1:10:33Yeah, don't think about that, right?
- 1:10:37Of course not, not, not. We don't.
- 1:10:39We don't do whatever it takes to win.
- 1:10:41No, never, never, never ever did that fucked up somebody's whole
- 1:10:45weekend. I would, I would.
- 1:10:50No. And it's tough for his
- 1:10:51championship, right? I mean, I think he was
- 1:10:53struggling a little bit, but he would have saved his
- 1:10:55championship. But now he gets no points.
- 1:10:59Yeah, now, now it's a nine point difference.
- 1:11:02Now it's, you know, one race, one mistake.
- 1:11:05I mean, it's the difference between first place and 3rd
- 1:11:07place. He loses the this point
- 1:11:09standing. You know, the one thing in this
- 1:11:12series that I'm kind of confused about is, you know, at the
- 1:11:14beginning of the year, you know, everybody was super high on Jake
- 1:11:18Dixon and you know, he's kind of been struggling.
- 1:11:22And I think now that he's got a ride elsewhere, I think he's
- 1:11:25just riding out this season just to get the hell out of Moto 2.
- 1:11:28It that's kind of what I'm seeing.
- 1:11:30I, I don't see him having the urgency that he had earlier in
- 1:11:32the year. And then Aaron Connett, I mean,
- 1:11:37you know, the, the, the lifetime Moto 2 rider.
- 1:11:39I mean, he doesn't. He doesn't have a ride yet for
- 1:11:42next year. He does.
- 1:11:44He has he? Oh yeah.
- 1:11:45He's switching, he's switching. He's.
- 1:11:47On Cassini. Yeah, yeah, like I said, man,
- 1:11:50Lifetime Moto 2 rider. Yeah, yeah, no.
- 1:11:53And but he's one of the few lifetimers.
- 1:11:55You mean you got Jake Robertson there, You got Dixon, you got
- 1:11:58Kinet. I mean, who else we got that's
- 1:12:01that's kind of. And those are the Ogs.
- 1:12:04Yeah, What's his name? Lopez.
- 1:12:07You know, these, these, and, and it's, it's, I mean, it's, we
- 1:12:10talk about the, the, the closeness of, of the race, but
- 1:12:14these guys are so up and down throughout the season.
- 1:12:18You know, where it's kind of like the, everything has to be
- 1:12:21right for them to, they either win or they're struggling.
- 1:12:24Where you see a lot of these younger guys, maybe some of most
- 1:12:27of them coming out of Marc Marquez's camp these days.
- 1:12:29They seem to get every, they keep getting better and better
- 1:12:33every round. They're not like they're not
- 1:12:35kind of, it's not like, you know, the, the top five one
- 1:12:38round and then the top, the bottom, you know, 5, the next
- 1:12:41round kind of thing that's progressively getting better
- 1:12:44and, and coming towards the top. Have you guys noticed that?
- 1:12:47Yeah, no, I, I see the younger guys as time goes on, becoming a
- 1:12:52little bit more proficient and getting better and better.
- 1:12:55There's a couple of guys now that are, I think going on to
- 1:12:57their second or third year in Moto 2 and, and they're starting
- 1:13:01to worry me because they showed a lot of brilliance in Moto 3
- 1:13:04and now in Moto 2 they've kind of seem to be topping out.
- 1:13:07So either they need to switch teams and look for new people
- 1:13:11around them because the equipment is very, very close,
- 1:13:14you know, minus the the chassis. But you know, I, I look at
- 1:13:18somebody like an Azan Guevara, you know, in Moto 3, killer
- 1:13:25killer. And now he's in Moto 2 and you
- 1:13:28know, he's with Tony Avellino and both them seem to struggle
- 1:13:31on that same team. You know, it's like that team,
- 1:13:34for whatever reason, can't put it together.
- 1:13:36And it's not like these two guys can't ride, man.
- 1:13:38These two guys can ride so. Is it is that sometimes like
- 1:13:44stardom though, you know, is it like, you know, you, you get up
- 1:13:47there and now you're, you're, you're more known and stuff like
- 1:13:50that. And you just as a as a young
- 1:13:52kid, just having a little bit more fun because, I mean, do you
- 1:13:56really just think it's just a team?
- 1:13:58It's a combination. Sometimes it's a team and
- 1:14:01sometimes it's a rider. Sometimes it's both.
- 1:14:04You know, a good team will keep a not so good focused rider
- 1:14:08focused and but a good rider on a not so good team can't make
- 1:14:14the team necessarily better. You know, if the team is is
- 1:14:17capped out and, and so I'm going to say it's, it's 80% on the
- 1:14:23rider to know what he's doing and 20% percent on the team to
- 1:14:28make sure they have the right rider.
- 1:14:30Because you can take the not right rider and make them look
- 1:14:32good. You know, you can make them
- 1:14:33better, but you can't take a bad team and make the team better
- 1:14:36because as a rider, what input do you have other than I need
- 1:14:39more grip, I need this, I need that the team sucks and can't
- 1:14:42give you anything because they just don't have the technical
- 1:14:44knowledge or know how or just support people to make it
- 1:14:48happen. You know you're stuck.
- 1:14:49You're stuck on a bike and you're getting paid, but you
- 1:14:51know you're stuck in 18th place every weekend, no matter how
- 1:14:54good rider you are. Yep.
- 1:14:57Good analogy, man. All right.
- 1:15:00I've been around a while. That's why he's OG.
- 1:15:07OG. They had Phillip.
- 1:15:09Phillip Next next round or? Is it?
- 1:15:15We got we got two weeks off. I think it is Phillips, I think
- 1:15:19it is Australia next round. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:22I think it's like 2 weeks off right?
- 1:15:24Yeah, we got Australia, Malaysia and then Portugal.
- 1:15:28That last year at the Phillip Islands when Bazaki and Maverick
- 1:15:33crashed in Turn 1 and then like, what is it?
- 1:15:38Turn two or three is like always, bites a lot of riders
- 1:15:41too, so it's going to be an interesting race.
- 1:15:43I mean, the thing with Australia that's always interesting is the
- 1:15:46weather, man. It's either.
- 1:15:47It's either lava. It's right on the water.
- 1:15:50It's raining. You can.
- 1:15:52See waves crashing in the background.
- 1:15:54Or or the wildlife or the. Wildlife.
- 1:15:56Yeah, boy, get hit by get hit by a seagull.
- 1:16:00Or kangaroo. Or.
- 1:16:01Wallaby, OR. Whatever red flag for animals.
- 1:16:08I think it's one of the most exciting tracks because it's a,
- 1:16:11it's a speed track. It's got a couple of places
- 1:16:13where you really got a bonsai. It's got some elevation changes.
- 1:16:18You know, the last few years, as far as I remember, they've been
- 1:16:21exciting races that have come down.
- 1:16:23To like the last couple of. Corners or the last few laps
- 1:16:26hasn't been somebody getting out front and just walking away from
- 1:16:29everybody. And then after that we go to
- 1:16:32Malaysia, which that's a great track, but that's another lava
- 1:16:36track, man. Anybody that's is always 105
- 1:16:39degrees, 100% humidity and then we back, you know back in Europe
- 1:16:46for the what is it the last two rounds?
- 1:16:48Yeah, Portugal and Valencia. Yep.
- 1:16:52Portugal might have might have something really, really
- 1:16:55interesting for people to see. OK.
- 1:16:59That's all I'm going to say. All right, all right.
- 1:17:02You're going. To be there and interviewed.
- 1:17:05No, no. But there might be there might
- 1:17:08be a a possibly be a a new. Something.
- 1:17:13Something on No. Team out there?
