- 1:46Speaker 5: is brought to you by Intech and First Financial Bank.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Hey, welcome in.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Rusty person is here, Robert Sesna is here. It's the
- 1:56Speaker 1: Writers for a Monday. It is four and O A
- 2:01Speaker 1: and M climbing the ranks in the ap pole.
- 2:05Speaker 2: And you know, I don't know what to what to.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Make of Saturday other than hey, you survive in advance
- 2:15Speaker 1: in this league. I don't care if you're home away,
- 2:17Speaker 1: I don't care what kind of team it is. You
- 2:20Speaker 1: win and you go to the next one, right, I
- 2:22Speaker 1: mean that's the bottom line. Okay, it's our job to
- 2:26Speaker 1: have overreaction Monday, But the bottom line is they're four
- 2:30Speaker 1: to o, they won, and now they get ready to
- 2:34Speaker 1: play Mississippi State.
- 2:35Speaker 4: Yeah, four and oh for the first time is in
- 2:36Speaker 4: nine years, So I mean that's good. Right, Yeah, it's
- 2:40Speaker 4: it's it's better to be four and oh and frustrated
- 2:43Speaker 4: than it is to be you know, trying to feel
- 2:45Speaker 4: optimistic about two and two, you know. Yeah, So yeah,
- 2:48Speaker 4: I think there's it was a frustrating game in a
- 2:50Speaker 4: lot of ways. No one left that stadium with just
- 2:55Speaker 4: I mean tremendous feelings of oh, how satisfied was that?
- 3:00Speaker 4: We've seen A and M lose those games a lot.
- 3:02Speaker 2: No doubt. Yeah.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Here's which is the point he's made both after the
- 3:05Speaker 1: game and today.
- 3:07Speaker 2: You don't need to be frustrated with how they play.
- 3:10Speaker 2: I mean, you don't have to be frustrated their four
- 3:12Speaker 2: and oh. That's that's number one. You can deal with
- 3:14Speaker 2: the other stuff. And I think Kirby Smart watched one
- 3:18Speaker 2: of his post games. He said it best. He said, Hey,
- 3:20Speaker 2: we had a tough game last week and lost. We
- 3:22Speaker 2: had a tough game, mean one. What a tough game
- 3:24Speaker 2: this week and one next week We're going a tough
- 3:26Speaker 2: game again. And that's kind of like the SEC was.
- 3:29Speaker 2: You know, Mississippi State looked like a pushover it. Maybe
- 3:32Speaker 2: they will be on Saturday, but they should have beaten
- 3:35Speaker 2: Tennessee in Tennessee should have beaten. You start doing it,
- 3:38Speaker 2: should it? You just got to take care of your
- 3:40Speaker 2: own business. And if you have twenty penalties, as long
- 3:43Speaker 2: as you win, got to win it. What do we
- 3:45Speaker 2: say when all of this started, right, you must win
- 3:48Speaker 2: your home games.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Yeah, you had to win these three in a row
- 3:51Speaker 1: and steal one or two on the road somehow.
- 3:53Speaker 2: But you gotta win your home games.
- 3:55Speaker 4: You gotta steal in those one or two on the road.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Doesn't seem so impossible more correct. One, And you look
- 4:02Speaker 4: at L.
- 4:02Speaker 7: S U.
- 4:03Speaker 4: And I watched that L. S U Ole Miss game,
- 4:06Speaker 4: Uh you know parts of it, and.
- 4:07Speaker 2: YE like, yeah, L s U.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Just they're not They're not good offensively, I mean they're.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Not who would have thought of that? Right?
- 4:15Speaker 4: And their quarterback is not nearly as good as I
- 4:17Speaker 4: thought it was going to be either.
- 4:18Speaker 2: No, he is not playing at a high school trophy level.
- 4:21Speaker 2: He's in the level right now when you when you
- 4:23Speaker 2: got a mess and go on these on these road trips,
- 4:27Speaker 2: your quarterback needs to be elevated. We saw that. We
- 4:29Speaker 2: saw that on Saturday, that he's terrible. I said he
- 4:32Speaker 2: was terrible before the game. He was even worse during
- 4:35Speaker 2: the game. They can't win with that quarterback. They cannot win.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Hugh Free should be and he he obviously doesn't have
- 4:41Speaker 1: anybody else or or he'd be in the game because
- 4:45Speaker 1: Auburn can't win with Jackson Arnold.
- 4:46Speaker 4: No, that's an awful offense. That's terrible, really bad offense.
- 4:50Speaker 1: And they have a decent running back and they've got
- 4:52Speaker 1: two really good receivers. I think they have two NFL receivers.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Their running back is good. He may not be great,
- 4:58Speaker 1: but he's good. And it's obvious that their offensive line sucks. Now,
- 5:03Speaker 1: I don't know how bad they are versus how well
- 5:07Speaker 1: AM's defensives played, because I think they're played pretty well.
- 5:10Speaker 1: But the week before they gave up nine sacks right
- 5:14Speaker 1: to Oklahoma. And yes, I'm talking about two pretty good
- 5:19Speaker 1: defensive football teams in college football, But still, what's that
- 5:22Speaker 1: sixteen sacks and two games? But half of those and
- 5:26Speaker 1: we talked about it in Oklahoma when when Oklahoma and
- 5:29Speaker 1: Opera played, then he holds the ball forever.
- 5:32Speaker 4: You know, they had one play, you know, offensively, one
- 5:36Speaker 4: play that may have been an interception, you could argue,
- 5:39Speaker 4: you know what I mean, it was probably a tie
- 5:41Speaker 4: that goes to the receiver. But that's the only play
- 5:43Speaker 4: that they had, that's right. And other than that, they
- 5:45Speaker 4: didn't do anything OFFENSI they scored three points offensively, Yeah,
- 5:49Speaker 4: and I and him kept him in the game with
- 5:51Speaker 4: you know, the interception, right, but that's the only thing
- 5:54Speaker 4: that kept him in there. Yeah, And you kind of
- 5:56Speaker 4: step away and you're like, do I feel a lot
- 5:58Speaker 4: different if the final score was twenty seven to three
- 6:01Speaker 4: as opposed to sixteen to ten. Yes, look I probably do.
- 6:05Speaker 4: And you know, if they don't throw that pick, they punched.
- 6:07Speaker 2: That in and unless I get penalties.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Well that's probably true too. But you know, and then
- 6:13Speaker 4: they missed two field goals, so if you make one
- 6:15Speaker 4: of those and then you well, it's a.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Fourteen point swing, right, they had the touchdown take it
- 6:20Speaker 1: away because of the penalty, they gave up a touchdowns.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Thirty to three, you feel a lot different than sixteen ten.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Nice ten, even if they take the field goal. But
- 6:29Speaker 2: here's the deal, what we always talking about. We talk
- 6:31Speaker 2: about coaching and talent. Some of those offensive linemen, other
- 6:35Speaker 2: big schools wanted them, but Auburn got them in the Trent.
- 6:38Speaker 2: You look at a running back came in. He hadn't
- 6:40Speaker 2: been caught behind the line all year. They have two
- 6:42Speaker 2: NFL receivers, So what happens they've got a horrible quarterback.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Sometimes your quarterback elevates the rest of the team. Sometimes
- 6:50Speaker 2: the team elevates the quarterback. They Auburn can do neither,
- 6:53Speaker 2: and that some of that goes on coaching, whether it's
- 6:55Speaker 2: Freeze or the guy calling place. They had no imagination,
- 6:59Speaker 2: did you It looked like Jimbo in the deal that
- 7:02Speaker 2: he doesn't do motion. You know, they did very little motion.
- 7:05Speaker 2: They did nothing in.
- 7:07Speaker 1: But you know what, I think they don't do it
- 7:09Speaker 1: because they don't believe that the quarterback can do it
- 7:11Speaker 1: cease exactly.
- 7:12Speaker 2: And then they're flaying to jumping off sides or doing
- 7:14Speaker 2: something and do it and put them in the hole
- 7:16Speaker 2: and put them in the hole. And that is a
- 7:19Speaker 2: bad football team.
- 7:20Speaker 4: The bottom line right now, I think they're pretty good defensively, Yeah, yeah,
- 7:24Speaker 4: I think they're pretty good defensively.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Yeah, offensively, right, yeah you're backup.
- 7:29Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a bad offensive team for sure.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I was. I was impressed with Dirk. If
- 7:33Speaker 2: you talk about how things can change, I always worry
- 7:35Speaker 2: about a team coming off of bye week. So it
- 7:37Speaker 2: ain't em gets the ball four plays sixty six yards.
- 7:40Speaker 2: I go, this is going to be a blowout. I said,
- 7:42Speaker 2: Dirkins had all week and that's the best he can do.
- 7:46Speaker 2: And then A and M struggles to get three field
- 7:49Speaker 2: goals after that, after that four plays they get a touchdown.
- 7:52Speaker 2: All they can do is get three field goals.
- 7:54Speaker 4: Yeah, that was the disappointing part because I mean the
- 7:57Speaker 4: plays were there, and you know, the touchdown they got
- 8:00Speaker 4: called back, you know, with the penalty, and you know,
- 8:03Speaker 4: I mean that's just just.
- 8:04Speaker 1: The penalties and mistakes, right Because levy On Moss looks
- 8:09Speaker 1: like a man. He is playing an All American caliber
- 8:13Speaker 1: right now.
- 8:13Speaker 4: I mean Tory and York on the other side of Tory.
- 8:16Speaker 1: York had a terrific football game, right, But but I
- 8:20Speaker 1: love levy On Moss right now. If he stays healthy,
- 8:24Speaker 1: he is going to have a terrific year. And he's
- 8:27Speaker 1: he's a Saturday. He was as good as I've seen
- 8:32Speaker 1: this year. Not the I'm not saying he's better than
- 8:35Speaker 1: a few, but he's as good as any running back
- 8:38Speaker 1: I've watched this year, and I've watched quite a few.
- 8:40Speaker 4: Yeah, and you know what, they seem like they were
- 8:43Speaker 4: intent on really establishing that yes, because you know, I mean,
- 8:46Speaker 4: sometimes not enough I thought, And then sometimes he's like,
- 8:50Speaker 4: well are they going to try to get the battle
- 8:52Speaker 4: crave today? You know what I mean? Like it's there.
- 8:55Speaker 2: For a while.
- 8:55Speaker 1: When you have weapons, you're always saying that, right, right,
- 8:58Speaker 1: why didn't he touch it well? Or why didn't he
- 9:01Speaker 1: touch it more? Why didn't he touch That's a good
- 9:03Speaker 1: problem to have.
- 9:04Speaker 4: But when you hit that guy, he makes things happen.
- 9:07Speaker 4: I get it, and and then it opens up everything else.
- 9:10Speaker 4: It opens up the running game to a degree.
- 9:11Speaker 2: You talk about coaching them, Moss, every time I thought
- 9:15Speaker 2: he goucked off, he moved a piles got thirty.
- 9:19Speaker 4: That one play where he carried like six guys for
- 9:21Speaker 4: ten yards, that's incredible.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Aam's got third and one. A Zulka said it was
- 9:26Speaker 2: more like two previous four plays they get like twenty
- 9:29Speaker 2: yards rushing. They don't run the ball, they throw the
- 9:31Speaker 2: ball aside twenty yards. Look, I don't mind the play.
- 9:36Speaker 2: It right, it should be an easy, simple play. It
- 9:41Speaker 2: wasn't a good good throw. No, it was not. I
- 9:43Speaker 2: don't think it was the right guy in that situation.
- 9:45Speaker 4: You can't can say something about that one. Almost it
- 9:48Speaker 4: goes without. I mean it hasn't been mentioned. But if
- 9:52Speaker 4: Buffy needs to make a little bit more effort on
- 9:54Speaker 4: the tackle there, I mean, my gosh, what a weak effort.
- 9:57Speaker 2: I understand.
- 10:00Speaker 4: He's a wide receiver, but I mean that was one
- 10:02Speaker 4: of the weakest efforts I saw tackles. Give me a break.
- 10:07Speaker 2: It's like I said, it's always in hindsight. What do
- 10:09Speaker 2: I always say, I don't care what play you call,
- 10:11Speaker 2: make it the right play. And that wasn't the right play.
- 10:15Speaker 2: And when you have all these options, like I said,
- 10:17Speaker 2: you got if you got two downs, you think loss
- 10:21Speaker 2: third and one and a half. And he's been caught
- 10:23Speaker 2: behind the line once all year. Basically he can't pick
- 10:26Speaker 2: that up.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Yeah, that was just disappointing because the A and M
- 10:28Speaker 4: was just I mean, they were they were pile driving Auburn.
- 10:31Speaker 4: I mean they were pushing them back, and Auburn was
- 10:34Speaker 4: just like giving up, and then that one play keeps
- 10:37Speaker 4: them in the game.
- 10:37Speaker 2: And I'll steal a page for Milka. That being said,
- 10:41Speaker 2: all those things, they won easily. It was their game.
- 10:44Speaker 2: They dominated it.
- 10:45Speaker 4: They won easily, but not it doesn't look like.
- 10:47Speaker 2: It didn't feel that way.
- 10:48Speaker 4: I got it because you're a six points.
- 10:50Speaker 2: But I had left the way to me. They just
- 10:52Speaker 2: kind of run it in the line the last three
- 10:54Speaker 2: times and punted because they didn't they want to screw
- 10:56Speaker 2: it up.
- 10:57Speaker 4: I'm watching that game thinking, there's no way Auburn can
- 10:59Speaker 4: score offensive. They're not going to drive.
- 11:03Speaker 2: That's right, everybody happen Auburn knew it.
- 11:05Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 11:07Speaker 1: So they won the game and they go three and
- 11:09Speaker 1: out right after that first place. You're talking about the
- 11:12Speaker 1: run three plays and punts three plays, but four plays, yeah, game.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Over, game over. So the bottom line is, I ain't
- 11:20Speaker 2: m will be better for that. You see. That's a
- 11:22Speaker 2: good thing about winning a little bit ugly because you
- 11:25Speaker 2: work on it. And those guys like Adams you talk about,
- 11:28Speaker 2: here's an All American candidate. He is two yards down
- 11:32Speaker 2: pass where he's supposed to be plays not even near him.
- 11:34Speaker 2: So what was called in the huddle? He's one of
- 11:36Speaker 2: your all Americans and he has a mental fart and
- 11:40Speaker 2: he's I just thought that was a horrible call. Though
- 11:42Speaker 2: I thought it was a terrible call, but they showed it.
- 11:45Speaker 2: He's got to be back. I understand, but man, I
- 11:48Speaker 2: get it. It's it's nitpicky. But don't put yourself in episode.
- 11:51Speaker 2: You're right, I mean, you're right. It's just and I
- 11:55Speaker 2: have this theory.
- 11:56Speaker 1: If you're a really heavily penalized team, and so you
- 12:00Speaker 1: just told me that the second the nation right now
- 12:03Speaker 1: is that total penalties total, the referees are gonna be
- 12:06Speaker 1: looking for.
- 12:07Speaker 2: You exactly exactly.
- 12:08Speaker 4: They're gonna be looking for you. Well, it's interesting because
- 12:10Speaker 4: Mississippi's missip states number three, number three. Yeah, so you
- 12:14Speaker 4: got number two versus number three.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Be a long game, It could be. It's be a
- 12:17Speaker 2: long You're right, because what what do officials do in basketball?
- 12:21Speaker 2: This guy files all the time? Yes, side, yeah, this guy,
- 12:23Speaker 2: this guy is wild. You won't throw strikes, gonna throw
- 12:27Speaker 2: a lot of balls. Yeah, So you have a reputation.
- 12:29Speaker 2: So if you got to any game, oh man, I'm
- 12:30Speaker 2: gonna throw a lot of a lot of penalties. These
- 12:32Speaker 2: guys do everything wrong.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Having said that, as much football as I watch, there
- 12:36Speaker 1: aren't too many officiating crews that aren't throwing a lot
- 12:40Speaker 1: of penalties right now. It's just it's pretty amazing to me.
- 12:45Speaker 1: SEC is the worst still. I just I keep railing
- 12:49Speaker 1: on the officials for a league, for for for a
- 12:52Speaker 1: league that is as good and as rich as they are,
- 12:56Speaker 1: I don't understand why they have such poor officiating and
- 13:00Speaker 1: why they cannot hold their officials publicly accountable for mistakes
- 13:05Speaker 1: they made.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Well, I would say, I hate to be say this, Chip,
- 13:10Speaker 2: but in the SEC, you make the wrong call in
- 13:12Speaker 2: Auburn Alabama game, might be a little bit worried about
- 13:15Speaker 2: those guys.
- 13:15Speaker 1: No, but everybody knows who they are. Anyway, everybody already knows.
- 13:19Speaker 1: But if you put it out there for everybody, I mean,
- 13:21Speaker 1: I'm just sorry. You know, there's psychos that don't read everything.
- 13:26Speaker 1: I think they ought to be accountable. If you're going
- 13:28Speaker 1: to tell me holding is a number seventy one, then
- 13:31Speaker 1: you tell me who the official was that blew the call.
- 13:35Speaker 1: And on Monday you put out a statement saying yeah,
- 13:37Speaker 1: after reviewing the tape, John Doe made a bad call.
- 13:41Speaker 4: Well, I think a lot of that had to do
- 13:42Speaker 4: with statements that were out there. You know that the
- 13:45Speaker 4: officials came in here with a little axtra grind against
- 13:48Speaker 4: Auburn and they were going to call every.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Little thing at Oklahoma.
- 13:53Speaker 4: Well but they did, But then Auburn had to go
- 13:55Speaker 4: out and you know, put it.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Maybe their own penalty problems.
- 13:58Speaker 4: Yes they did. And I mean that statement that they
- 14:01Speaker 4: put out there about you know how the officials said
- 14:06Speaker 4: they messed it up. He seems right, and so yeah,
- 14:12Speaker 4: I thought the nitpicky was they came in here, those
- 14:15Speaker 4: officials came in there wanting to throw flags.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Well it probably told hey, don't if you're going to
- 14:19Speaker 2: miss a call, don't miss it on Auburn, right, they
- 14:21Speaker 2: cost him a game last week, So probably that was said,
- 14:25Speaker 2: even though they'll publicly never say that, won't say that
- 14:28Speaker 2: Auburn had. Auburn had ten penalties.
- 14:30Speaker 1: You know, I and M had thirteen, Auburn had ten,
- 14:33Speaker 1: So not the horrible discrepancy there.
- 14:36Speaker 2: And to be honest, most of Auburn's were very at
- 14:40Speaker 2: of them are pre snap because the crowd whatever, and
- 14:43Speaker 2: they are very very noticeable. Yes, in other words, it
- 14:46Speaker 2: Elcher brings up a good point, which ones like he
- 14:48Speaker 2: said publicly, I mean he was unpressed corded. They had
- 14:51Speaker 2: thirteen he said, two that he definitely thought were wrong. Well,
- 14:54Speaker 2: two out of eleven out of thirteen. That's probably pretty
- 14:56Speaker 2: good for SEC officials think around like thirteen right, really good. Yeah,
- 15:01Speaker 2: that means they got eleven out of thirteen wrong.
- 15:06Speaker 1: They you know, I don't want to beat a dead horse,
- 15:09Speaker 1: but they got to clean that up somehow.
- 15:11Speaker 2: Yeah, they It's been an ongoing issue now.
- 15:14Speaker 4: It has been, and it wasn't. It was an issue
- 15:15Speaker 4: last year too, That's what I mean.
- 15:17Speaker 2: It kind of puzzles me because there's no doubt elchoes
- 15:20Speaker 2: a disappearing when you when the guys that were leaving
- 15:23Speaker 2: the Jimbo era, we talked to them after the coaching changed.
- 15:26Speaker 2: They talked about how things were different and very accountable. Yes,
- 15:30Speaker 2: but we've all raised children, and children will constantly do
- 15:34Speaker 2: the wrong thing, even though how many times we tell them.
- 15:38Speaker 2: And it's got to be very perplexing because they are
- 15:40Speaker 2: making all those pre snout penalties and we know, like
- 15:44Speaker 2: you know, like I said, you can't be two or
- 15:46Speaker 2: post or post whistle post whistle. Yeah, and it's got
- 15:49Speaker 2: to be frustrating because he said they making a number
- 15:52Speaker 2: one priority. But then you have thirteen penalties and even
- 15:54Speaker 2: like I said, you pass too, that means he's still
- 15:56Speaker 2: at eleven.
- 15:57Speaker 4: I'm gonna throw a flag at my daughters. Been in
- 15:59Speaker 4: too much mond here?
- 16:01Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I like to penalize he needs to get
- 16:06Speaker 2: good luck with that.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Yes, so one hundred and nineteen total yards plus one
- 16:12Speaker 1: plus one touchdown play that was called back, a couple
- 16:16Speaker 1: of other drives that that were stalled because of that.
- 16:21Speaker 2: I mean, we're look, it's it's good.
- 16:24Speaker 1: They were playing Auburn Saturday, right, I mean they have
- 16:28Speaker 1: to clean it up if they want to go where
- 16:31Speaker 1: they want to go.
- 16:32Speaker 4: Yeah, and you know what, though, I thought Auburn might
- 16:35Speaker 4: be the biggest test of these three, you know, and
- 16:38Speaker 4: now it looks like Missispi State is going to be
- 16:40Speaker 4: the biggest test of the three right right now?
- 16:43Speaker 2: It does maybe Florida, who knows, who knows?
- 16:45Speaker 4: I mean, Florida is a very talented team, even though
- 16:47Speaker 4: they don't look it. I just thought Auburn, you know,
- 16:51Speaker 4: after watching them, I was like, that's not a good
- 16:55Speaker 4: that's not a good offense. I mean that they're never
- 16:57Speaker 4: going to score against this A and M defense, is
- 17:00Speaker 4: so I thought, well, yeah, that that just that was
- 17:04Speaker 4: a nothing kind of team that I thought that A
- 17:07Speaker 4: and M beat. And now it's good. It's on papers,
- 17:12Speaker 4: it's good. You gotta beat them. They beat you last year, right, So.
- 17:17Speaker 2: In Oliver needed to come in and win because they
- 17:18Speaker 2: were zero and one. Getting back to.
- 17:20Speaker 4: I'm not sure they're gonna win another game.
- 17:22Speaker 2: I understand you. No getting back chip. I criticize Klin
- 17:27Speaker 2: for his call on third and one, but what I
- 17:30Speaker 2: like was next time down there, they ran a pass
- 17:33Speaker 2: play in almost the same situation Craward. They go to him,
- 17:36Speaker 2: he's open touchdown, but then they're downfield, and I laughed
- 17:40Speaker 2: because if you're clined, you probably feel a little vindicated.
- 17:43Speaker 2: I'm not gonna get back off my guns. We're gonna
- 17:45Speaker 2: throw the ball in the red zone. They do, they score,
- 17:48Speaker 2: but they got a lineman downfield, you know, just he
- 17:50Speaker 2: priced and just kicked me in the head, you know.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean you can't win at that point. You
- 17:56Speaker 1: got one hundred and five thousand critics plus three.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Yeah here, So and then at one play they scored
- 18:03Speaker 2: going down to the left and they had a stupid,
- 18:05Speaker 2: stupid penalty. I mean, they make this big, big play
- 18:09Speaker 2: and then all of a sudden, you got a penalty.
- 18:10Speaker 2: You gotta bring it, and it's very obviously he knocked
- 18:13Speaker 2: the guy. Now he's unblievable. So you think we could
- 18:17Speaker 2: get some Le'Veon moss, some some medication before the game,
- 18:20Speaker 2: so he could, you know, not throw up the entire
- 18:23Speaker 2: first quarter and play more plays. Well he might. I
- 18:28Speaker 2: hope he wasn't eating over at Craters because everybody goes
- 18:31Speaker 2: eating creators. Remember he's supposed to be such a great cook.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Or No, no, it's concepts except yeah, yeah, it's Casey.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Yeah I thought it was crazy. No, it's Casey. Well,
- 18:39Speaker 2: maybe they need to go to his house because they
- 18:41Speaker 2: ain't the pregame meal and it wasn't it wasn't obviously
- 18:43Speaker 2: good enough.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Well, it hadn't been good enough for Leon, wasn't good
- 18:47Speaker 1: enough at Notre Dame. But hey, Bill Russell threw up
- 18:51Speaker 1: before every game. If if Le'Veon can can can be
- 18:54Speaker 1: half of that, then that's okay. He can throw upside.
- 18:57Speaker 4: I'm looking at Auburn's schedule and I just that they're
- 19:00Speaker 4: gonna beat Mercer. But they made you know, and they
- 19:04Speaker 4: play at Arkansas.
- 19:05Speaker 2: They half Kentucky at home. Kentucky's quit.
- 19:07Speaker 4: Yeah there, I don't know. I mean that's gonna be
- 19:09Speaker 4: a that's gonna be a heck of a game.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Kentucky's kind of giving up. Yeah, and Arkansas and we
- 19:14Speaker 2: don't know what Arkansas is gonna be.
- 19:16Speaker 4: Bobby Patrino that.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Yeah, but he didn't never, he didn't have any defensive coaches.
- 19:20Speaker 1: He fired his whole defensive staff. I'm wondering who he's
- 19:22Speaker 1: got a motorstackle. They didn't have a defense before they
- 19:25Speaker 1: fired those guys. So is he going to coach both?
- 19:27Speaker 1: I don't you know where are these guys coming from?
- 19:30Speaker 1: Grad assistance.
- 19:31Speaker 4: He's gonna get this motorcycle game back together again, though,
- 19:33Speaker 4: I mean.
- 19:36Speaker 2: They already have tea at least according to sec Short.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Did you say riding with Bobby? Yeah? I like that.
- 19:42Speaker 2: Here's the deal? Is I love Sam Pittman, who's quotable?
- 19:45Speaker 2: You love that? Yes? I will say this. Arkansas will
- 19:48Speaker 2: be more competitive under Patrino Frainam's game than if they
- 19:52Speaker 2: can't be Lescot. So I think you're worried because he
- 19:56Speaker 2: might find three old farts out there retarded, come in
- 19:58Speaker 2: and help him coach defense. I mean, you never know.
- 20:00Speaker 2: He's his brother, He's got a lot of people he knows.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Yeah, this is a team that went to Old Miss
- 20:06Speaker 1: and lost by just six points.
- 20:08Speaker 2: They scored a lot, they had a lot of yards
- 20:10Speaker 2: and defense and at the time, right at the time,
- 20:13Speaker 2: they were they were way up in all the offensive
- 20:15Speaker 2: categories right.
- 20:17Speaker 4: Well, and they came out decently against Notre Dame. I
- 20:20Speaker 4: mean they went down there and they scored and after
- 20:23Speaker 4: that that was it.
- 20:24Speaker 2: That was it, Notre Dame of the fake punt by
- 20:27Speaker 2: like thirty points. But you're right, they don't have a defense.
- 20:30Speaker 2: So and you can't win without a defense. And you see,
- 20:33Speaker 2: in the long run, you might be able to score
- 20:34Speaker 2: one team, but.
- 20:35Speaker 1: You can't win without a defense. You can't win without
- 20:38Speaker 1: a quarterback. We do know that count down the penalties
- 20:42Speaker 1: you can't win with well, actually you can win with
- 20:45Speaker 1: thirteen penalties.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Ship's coaching show on Mondays. It should it should be
- 20:50Speaker 2: so obvious.
- 20:51Speaker 1: I see all these things I can correct every day
- 20:54Speaker 1: from the count every Saturday, from.
- 20:55Speaker 2: The couch, maybe more team exactly.
- 21:00Speaker 1: I think my message would be stop getting stupid penalties.
- 21:03Speaker 1: That would be my message. You think that would go, Yeah,
- 21:08Speaker 1: that would listen to me. I think he's an old guy.
- 21:14Speaker 1: So Arkansas fires Pittman. I mean the coaching carousel has started. Uh,
- 21:23Speaker 1: I'm not sure what's going to happen at Florida Kentucky?
- 21:27Speaker 1: Is is he's done there?
- 21:29Speaker 4: For sure?
- 21:30Speaker 2: He's kind of gone, but he's there.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't I don't know if they'll fire in season.
- 21:35Speaker 1: I don't understand. I don't understand the end season firings.
- 21:39Speaker 2: Frankly, here's the deal is in the only Buchanan when
- 21:42Speaker 2: we were talking to him, of course we did the
- 21:44Speaker 2: show on Saturday with Louis. Uh, they have fired Napier
- 21:48Speaker 2: during the open week if they're going to do it,
- 21:50Speaker 2: so they didn't do it. So that kind of tells
- 21:51Speaker 2: you they're probably going to keep naper the whole way. Yes,
- 21:54Speaker 2: because you go ahead and get that done now. Probably
- 21:57Speaker 2: in that situation like Arkansas did, they got to know
- 22:00Speaker 2: and date. That's when you fire a coach. If you've
- 22:02Speaker 2: got troubles and people brought up a good point, you
- 22:04Speaker 2: want to start going to get the coach quick as
- 22:06Speaker 2: possible because of the nil deals to transfer what have you.
- 22:10Speaker 2: The game's changed.
- 22:11Speaker 1: So if I'm a player, I'm pretty upset because they
- 22:14Speaker 1: wait five, they wait after four games, after four games,
- 22:19Speaker 1: and so some of these players, you know, could.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Have a year of eligibility left. If you played five,
- 22:25Speaker 2: you're done for Yeah, yeah, you're stuck to them for Yeah,
- 22:29Speaker 2: you're stuck.
- 22:30Speaker 4: So it's I think Petrino gives them some energy. Though
- 22:34Speaker 4: in Arkansas he might.
- 22:36Speaker 2: He might.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I mean, I think he's got some weapons to work
- 22:40Speaker 1: with on the offensive side of the ball, right this
- 22:44Speaker 1: this quarterback is not terrible for sure.
- 22:46Speaker 4: No, And I think by Petrino proved he's a heck
- 22:49Speaker 4: of a head coach. I mean, obviously he had A
- 22:53Speaker 4: and m's number. I mean when he was the head
- 22:54Speaker 4: coach of Arkasas he they never lost.
- 22:57Speaker 2: He's a really good play caller. Yes, I do know,
- 23:00Speaker 2: excellent what she's been doing anyway, I'm assuming, right, And
- 23:04Speaker 2: like I said, he's got to have older coaches that
- 23:06Speaker 2: maybe are retired. He knows he'll bring him back and
- 23:09Speaker 2: they'll coach. I mean that's just you. You almost never
- 23:12Speaker 2: see that.
- 23:12Speaker 1: You'll see in a coordinator fired exactly why we've seen
- 23:16Speaker 1: it here. Uh, but but you don't see an entire
- 23:20Speaker 1: side of the football fire.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Yeah, that's and that guy was a high riser like
- 23:25Speaker 2: two three years ago. That's how quickly can change. And
- 23:28Speaker 2: obviously Patrina was sitting there in the meetings in his
- 23:31Speaker 2: last two years said, if I ever get to be
- 23:33Speaker 2: head coach, that guy's gone.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Well apparently, apparently Patrina has been whispering to a lot
- 23:38Speaker 1: of people for a while about you know what he's
- 23:41Speaker 1: going to do.
- 23:42Speaker 2: Yeah, So now, now are not the most.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Not the most loved and respected coach in college or
- 23:48Speaker 1: pro football.
- 23:49Speaker 2: And here's the deal. He knows if he wins two
- 23:52Speaker 2: or three games rest this year, he's going to get
- 23:54Speaker 2: a shot. He's going to get a shot. Yeah. And
- 23:57Speaker 2: let's be honest. Arkansas has money. They should be a
- 24:00Speaker 2: lot better than what they are in a lot of sports.
- 24:02Speaker 2: But of course they're put all their money into basketball.
- 24:04Speaker 1: If you go to Austin and beat Texas, he'll get
- 24:06Speaker 1: a five year contract.
- 24:08Speaker 2: You're right, you're right, All right, We're going to take
- 24:12Speaker 2: a break. Robert Sess is here, Rusty Berson is here.

- 28:44Speaker 1: are here. Mississippi State coming in. How long have we
- 28:48Speaker 1: talked about you have to beat the Mississippi States of
- 28:52Speaker 1: the world to jump up in.
- 28:54Speaker 2: The SEC well without a doubt. And I'll give Missippi
- 28:59Speaker 2: State credit.
- 29:00Speaker 1: They're a lobby has apparently done a really good taken.
- 29:05Speaker 2: They overhauled their roster because all the good players were
- 29:08Speaker 2: taken by anybody else like crag came to and m
- 29:11Speaker 2: there was you look where and elsewhere. The fact that
- 29:14Speaker 2: he has a competitive team with what he's done shows
- 29:18Speaker 2: me the value of him as a coach. That's why
- 29:20Speaker 2: he was at Oklahoma yep. And I think he's dangerous
- 29:23Speaker 2: moving forward what he's done. When he's done a lot
- 29:26Speaker 2: with a little Now, I expect A and M to
- 29:30Speaker 2: be really ready for this game. After so many mental
- 29:33Speaker 2: errors last time. I think when you you're A and M,
- 29:36Speaker 2: those players can't be happy with all the mistakes you
- 29:39Speaker 2: talk about. How do you get to them. Well, I
- 29:43Speaker 2: think they probably know they should have won that game
- 29:45Speaker 2: by a lot more.
- 29:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I think this is gonna be an interesting game
- 29:50Speaker 4: because obviously this is really the first road game from
- 29:54Speaker 4: Misissippi State. I mean, they went on the road to
- 29:56Speaker 4: play Southern miss but I mean that was in the
- 29:58Speaker 4: non conference, and so you know, I mean they their
- 30:01Speaker 4: biggest win so far is over Arizona State, and they
- 30:05Speaker 4: played Tennessee really really good last week, and.
- 30:08Speaker 2: I should have won, probably should have won.
- 30:10Speaker 4: I think that this is gonna be you know, like
- 30:13Speaker 4: I said, in the first hour, we're like we thought
- 30:16Speaker 4: that Auburn was gonna be the big test. All right
- 30:18Speaker 4: now I'm thinking, Okay, Mississippi State is test and you
- 30:21Speaker 4: can't afford to slip up on on on this one.
- 30:24Speaker 4: You just can't.
- 30:26Speaker 1: No.
- 30:26Speaker 2: I like all the times I've seen I remember shaping
- 30:29Speaker 2: his first four games last year, the guy from Baylor,
- 30:32Speaker 2: good delivery, good arm. He was good at Baylor was.
- 30:36Speaker 2: I really like this guy. He's a little more not
- 30:39Speaker 2: as mobile as Arnold, but definitely a lot more dangerous
- 30:42Speaker 2: with his arm. That being said, I really like two
- 30:47Speaker 2: weeks now when you're we're seeing Elcho's exotic blitzes and
- 30:52Speaker 2: he were seeing them rush to rush three, rush four,
- 30:55Speaker 2: and he's very good in that situation. I think his
- 30:59Speaker 2: team is centaining in and I think the defense will
- 31:02Speaker 2: continue to play. Well.
- 31:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I did too, And I really liked the way
- 31:05Speaker 4: Tory in York is reading plays and he it reminds
- 31:09Speaker 4: me a lot of I'm gonna throw it way back here,
- 31:12Speaker 4: because you can tell that he's seen plays before they.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Even take, which is what Alco talked about today.
- 31:18Speaker 4: Right, And so that was the characteristic that that win
- 31:22Speaker 4: wins so instinctive instinctive, Well, but it's more than instinctive.
- 31:27Speaker 4: It's more it's like studying of it so much. Yes, yeah,
- 31:30Speaker 4: and that gets a lot of correct from being instinctive.
- 31:32Speaker 4: But he knew these teams so you know so well,
- 31:35Speaker 4: and and he studied him so well, and so he
- 31:37Speaker 4: would make reaction. He would make calls before the quarterback
- 31:41Speaker 4: snaps the ball. You know, he he can see alignments
- 31:44Speaker 4: and things like that, and that's what I think you're seeing.
- 31:47Speaker 4: Tory in York gets the next level there.
- 31:49Speaker 2: You're absolutely correct, Russy, because I always was when we
- 31:52Speaker 2: first started out, I go, man, this that win is
- 31:55Speaker 2: maybe not that athletic, not that quick. Begetting back to
- 31:58Speaker 2: your point, if the whole guy was running between the
- 32:02Speaker 2: left guard and left tackle, it seemed like that win
- 32:06Speaker 2: was there just as he got there, and nobody was
- 32:08Speaker 2: around him, so he didn't have a blocker to hit awhere.
- 32:10Speaker 2: He knew that running back was going to go in
- 32:12Speaker 2: that lane.
- 32:13Speaker 4: Yeah, and he and Phil Bennett, you know, they just
- 32:16Speaker 4: study film, so I mean that's what they did, you know,
- 32:19Speaker 4: and that was such a film junkie. I don't know
- 32:22Speaker 4: if that's Toy and York or not, but I did hear.
- 32:24Speaker 4: It was like I hear you know, you know, Elka
- 32:26Speaker 4: was saying about that, and I was like, yeah that, Yeah.
- 32:30Speaker 2: You're right. But really great linebackers and Elko pointed out,
- 32:35Speaker 2: which is a good one. Edrin Cooper had all the
- 32:38Speaker 2: physical talents whatever, but he needed to learn how to
- 32:40Speaker 2: to you know, academically so to speak, to learn the game.
- 32:44Speaker 2: And all your great linebackers, particularly when they get to
- 32:47Speaker 2: the NFL, you have to do film. The fact that
- 32:50Speaker 2: York's so far ahead and understands that, uh, he works
- 32:53Speaker 2: in his craft. And we see a lot of these
- 32:55Speaker 2: college guys, you wonder how much they really work on
- 32:58Speaker 2: their craft because I think early in our broadcast today
- 33:01Speaker 2: we went over you think about the quarterbacks arch Manning
- 33:04Speaker 2: Qbac from Clemson and Musmaer from l s U. And
- 33:08Speaker 2: I don't want to say they don't do a lot
- 33:10Speaker 2: of film study, but they are having way lower seasons
- 33:13Speaker 2: than we all thought they would have.
- 33:15Speaker 1: I've got a question, how involved do you think Art
- 33:18Speaker 1: Briles is.
- 33:18Speaker 2: With Mississippi State and with his son in law. You know,
- 33:22Speaker 2: I never really thought about that till now, Chip, but
- 33:24Speaker 2: you bring I.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Told my wife yesterday he's calling plays for him.
- 33:27Speaker 2: They're having great success.
- 33:28Speaker 4: You know that could be he could be because you.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Talk about people that could call a good game, like
- 33:34Speaker 2: we just said.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Uh, I mean, I will I'm gonna put this on
- 33:37Speaker 1: tape because it's on tape, but I'll deny I said it.
- 33:39Speaker 2: But Art Brown's is an offensive jais is he could
- 33:43Speaker 2: call play?
- 33:44Speaker 4: He just is He's scumbag.
- 33:46Speaker 2: But yes, it's just like Rusty said once again, is
- 33:48Speaker 2: he knew exactly when the defense broke or whatever, he
- 33:51Speaker 2: knew they need they got single coverage and no da dah,
- 33:54Speaker 2: he was. He just recognized it. He just was because
- 33:57Speaker 2: he watched whether they watched some of the film. But
- 34:00Speaker 2: it's a god given gift. Well, and his son in.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Law has been Look that doesn't mean he can become him,
- 34:05Speaker 1: but he's been with him obviously a long time. He
- 34:08Speaker 1: knows how he calls the game, he knows how he
- 34:10Speaker 1: thinks on offense, and like you said, he's off doing it.
- 34:15Speaker 1: I don't care who they've beaten so far. They're four
- 34:19Speaker 1: and one. This is a program I thought was going
- 34:22Speaker 1: to win three games this year, and maybe they still will.
- 34:25Speaker 2: But I'm just saying what he's done. This program was dead,
- 34:29Speaker 2: and I mean dead in the water.
- 34:32Speaker 1: And he has given reason for hope and that's what
- 34:36Speaker 1: makes this team uh.
- 34:38Speaker 2: And it's good news for Aggie fans. And they didn't
- 34:40Speaker 2: win that Tennessee game.
- 34:42Speaker 1: But he has given these players a little belief and
- 34:46Speaker 1: a little hope. And Elko mentioned today, I always notice
- 34:50Speaker 1: in film the energy on the sideline.
- 34:53Speaker 2: I was so interesting.
- 34:56Speaker 1: And he said, this team is committed is how he
- 35:00Speaker 1: put it.
- 35:00Speaker 2: And you know they have to be to.
- 35:02Speaker 1: Win four games after losing I don't know how many
- 35:05Speaker 1: in the last three years.
- 35:07Speaker 2: You know you're one hundred percent ship When when Elko
- 35:10Speaker 2: said that, and I go Sometimes the coaches say the
- 35:12Speaker 2: simplest things are so true. When I was watching a
- 35:15Speaker 2: little bit on Saturday whenever I could because A know
- 35:18Speaker 2: was playing. When you look at the old miss uh
- 35:21Speaker 2: Mississippi State, Okay, those players are so cocky. They just
- 35:26Speaker 2: reflect Kiffin and they're all excited. Yes, we're gonna kick
- 35:29Speaker 2: your butt, you know, yeah, And then you saw l
- 35:32Speaker 2: s U. It's like, crap, we're gonna lose.
- 35:34Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Yeah, That's why I felt watching TV. Yes, and I
- 35:38Speaker 2: think Elko is so right. You look at the and
- 35:41Speaker 2: the body language on the sideline in Auburn. It was
- 35:44Speaker 2: like some guys were saying like, hey, we're okay, but
- 35:47Speaker 2: they were saying that, but their body was saying, oh man,
- 35:50Speaker 2: we stink yeah, and a good point at the defense,
- 35:53Speaker 2: like what else do we have to do? Right? And
- 35:58Speaker 2: they scored six, they all they could. And I looked
- 36:01Speaker 2: at those guys going up and talking to to Arnold.
- 36:04Speaker 2: I feel bad for Arnold or whatever you talk about
- 36:06Speaker 2: going from one bad situation to another. He is one
- 36:09Speaker 2: good game against Baylor, and man, people want him to go.
- 36:12Speaker 4: Now, well, he had one good game and it was
- 36:15Speaker 4: running running. No, I mean it was almost all running.
- 36:20Speaker 4: And yeah, I mean this is not this is not Baylor.
- 36:23Speaker 4: And it's like, you know, So back to the Mississippi
- 36:27Speaker 4: State I said, you know, yeah, they've got some hope
- 36:30Speaker 4: and that you know, Arizona State win looks pretty good.
- 36:33Speaker 4: I mean Arizona State is yes, yeah, and so we'll see.
- 36:39Speaker 2: And they should have been Tennessee. I kept saying. People
- 36:42Speaker 2: ask me how I miss it. I said, okay, we'll
- 36:44Speaker 2: see what Tennessee. I said, they'll get their clock clean
- 36:46Speaker 2: by yeah. To see, I said, Hypel loves to run
- 36:48Speaker 2: up the score. He screwed up against George.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, there was one. And I wish I
- 36:53Speaker 1: had written this down. I said, they'll bet Missippi State
- 36:55Speaker 1: by twenty.
- 36:56Speaker 2: Made another horrible mistake in the fourth quarter.
- 36:59Speaker 1: On Man, I've watched so much football I don't remember,
- 37:03Speaker 1: and I'm just looking at it and staring and thinking
- 37:06Speaker 1: to myself, what are you doing again? I mean this,
- 37:11Speaker 1: and so I'm Hypel can coach offensive football. There is
- 37:15Speaker 1: no question about that. Right, he can score points, But
- 37:19Speaker 1: I'm thinking as a game manager. The more I see
- 37:22Speaker 1: of him, I'm going, Man, if you don't, if you
- 37:25Speaker 1: don't score forty, which they did the other you know,
- 37:28Speaker 1: they had to score a lot of points to meet
- 37:29Speaker 1: Mississippi State, you're screwed because if you get in this
- 37:32Speaker 1: close game again. And I wish I could remember this scenario,
- 37:36Speaker 1: but I'm just staring. I'm going, what are you doing?
- 37:40Speaker 2: There was a minute sixteen less. Okay, they got the
- 37:42Speaker 2: ball was tied.
- 37:43Speaker 3: They used one time out and ran out of time
- 37:46Speaker 3: at the fifty yard line.
- 37:48Speaker 2: Okay, there you go. They ran twin thank you.
- 37:51Speaker 1: You're going they're gonna he's going for overtime. I'm going,
- 37:54Speaker 1: you're you're on the road. You've got your bucks butt kicked.
- 37:57Speaker 1: He had twenty five seconds where the quarterback is like
- 38:01Speaker 1: letting the clock run right. No, No, I'm serious with
- 38:06Speaker 1: timeouts left now and they started in their own territory
- 38:11Speaker 1: about to twenty five. Okay, but they ran a play
- 38:16Speaker 1: and got ten or twelve yards. I'm going, here they
- 38:18Speaker 1: go because they're waiting to do that, and they're gonna
- 38:20Speaker 1: see Hey, should should I because I don't want to
- 38:23Speaker 1: make a mistake, you know, five yard line in the
- 38:26Speaker 1: last minute. But then the guy gets up on the
- 38:29Speaker 1: ball and the clock's just ticking and ticking, and Hypel's
- 38:32Speaker 1: looking at I'm going, what is going on?
- 38:36Speaker 4: Yeah, he's not a good game manager, there's no doubt.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Well, we keep talking about it, coaches, and we could
- 38:42Speaker 2: laugh because it doesn't mean anything. Us work and there's
- 38:44Speaker 2: no pressure for us right now. They're on the sideline
- 38:47Speaker 2: but we're barely making five figures seven. He set there
- 38:51Speaker 2: and laugh and go why do they do these things?
- 38:54Speaker 2: But you can see you freeze things just he's getting tighter,
- 38:57Speaker 2: tighter grip. We're seeing with with Napier, with with yeah,
- 39:00Speaker 2: Sam Pittman and these guys, and in high Point, you know,
- 39:03Speaker 2: Hype got a lot of grief about losing that Georgia
- 39:05Speaker 2: game because you got to win that game and and
- 39:07Speaker 2: you had it one yes, and you try to rely
- 39:09Speaker 2: and you screwed and you screwed it up. But we
- 39:12Speaker 2: can laugh. But these guys, it's tough. It's tough.
- 39:15Speaker 4: There's no great team right now. I mean, there's no
- 39:18Speaker 4: r in the sec uh. I watched that Alabama Georgia
- 39:22Speaker 4: game and there's there's no great team.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Let's talk about that when we come back. We need
- 39:25Speaker 2: a break.
- 39:26Speaker 1: I want to talk about Alabama Georgia and the league
- 39:28Speaker 1: and college football and the teams I watched on Saturday.

- 41:02Speaker 1: Welcome back at the Runners Round Table for a Monday
- 41:06Speaker 1: rout to you my first financial bank and intact Rusty
- 41:10Speaker 1: Gerson Robert Cessna with US.
- 41:12Speaker 2: Alabama Georgia on Saturday.
- 41:14Speaker 1: The white Whale for Kirby Smart is the Crimson Tide.
- 41:17Speaker 2: He's one and seven against them.
- 41:20Speaker 1: He's one oh seven and thirteen against the rest of
- 41:23Speaker 1: college football, and he's one and seven against Alabama.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Yeah, and I have a theory I want you guys
- 41:29Speaker 2: to react to this.
- 41:30Speaker 4: Okay, My theory.
- 41:32Speaker 1: Is this, Alabama is one of the very few teams
- 41:39Speaker 1: that are big enough and physical enough to stand toe
- 41:43Speaker 1: to toe with them. In the trenches on both sides
- 41:46Speaker 1: of the ball. Those two teams beat the crap out
- 41:50Speaker 1: of each other Saturday night. It was brutal, and I
- 41:54Speaker 1: think that that's and then Alabama of course also has
- 41:58Speaker 1: skill people and they had the best quarterback, which they
- 42:02Speaker 1: still have.
- 42:03Speaker 2: They still have skill people and the best play caller.
- 42:07Speaker 12: Uh.
- 42:07Speaker 1: But I just think a lot of it is that big, physical,
- 42:14Speaker 1: just mental that they bring to that game. And as
- 42:17Speaker 1: you mentioned, Cees, they absolutely had the best quarterback in
- 42:21Speaker 1: that game.
- 42:22Speaker 2: I'm with you, and that's why I like A and
- 42:25Speaker 2: M moving forward after the Auburn game, because they dominated
- 42:28Speaker 2: both lines of scrimmage and I didn't think that was possible.
- 42:31Speaker 2: Fradom's defensive line going in, I thought that was a
- 42:33Speaker 2: huge beginning back what you said, if you want to
- 42:36Speaker 2: win big time football, and I get it. I like
- 42:39Speaker 2: the beer as a war yeah him too as a
- 42:41Speaker 2: play called an offensive guy, but you gotta have a
- 42:44Speaker 2: lineman in the SEC and you want to win a
- 42:46Speaker 2: big game, you gotta have the big guys because on
- 42:49Speaker 2: both sides, what do I say, Going in Texas, Ohio
- 42:52Speaker 2: State was gonna be like thirty twenty four and now
- 42:54Speaker 2: it was like fourteen to seven, you know, because you
- 42:56Speaker 2: got to have defense, you got a lineman and so
- 42:58Speaker 2: you're right. And Alabama people probably feeling pretty good today.
- 43:03Speaker 1: Well I think they should they should be. I like
- 43:05Speaker 1: this team. That's why I picked them when the season started.
- 43:09Speaker 1: I liked Boor. You talked about James Franklin not being
- 43:14Speaker 1: a big game coach season. His record back set up
- 43:17Speaker 1: Callen de Boor is now seven and one against top
- 43:20Speaker 1: ten teams.
- 43:21Speaker 2: He hadn't had nearly as many opportunities over the years.
- 43:24Speaker 2: I'll take sid he won seven and one against top
- 43:27Speaker 2: ten teams. To me, that means he's now.
- 43:31Speaker 1: He's lost to Vanderbilt, he lost to the directional school
- 43:35Speaker 1: app State, I think it was I get that.
- 43:38Speaker 2: But he's seven and one in these big games and that.
- 43:41Speaker 1: Probably gonna serve him well down the stretch because the
- 43:45Speaker 1: more they win, the more big games he's gonna play.
- 43:47Speaker 2: And he's got one this week. And you know, Vanderbilt
- 43:49Speaker 2: beat him last year.
- 43:50Speaker 1: And Vanderbilt has played really good football right now with
- 43:54Speaker 1: a quarterback that's really good.
- 43:56Speaker 4: Yeah, they better be on the lookout for Okaden Proctor.
- 43:59Speaker 4: That often blindman out there.
- 44:01Speaker 2: Was that a player?
- 44:02Speaker 4: Yeah, that was the player of the day. I really
- 44:05Speaker 4: enjoyed that that was the player of the day. Toys
- 44:07Speaker 4: Simpson looked really good.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Oh he did.
- 44:10Speaker 4: And I really hadn't given him any thought at all,
- 44:13Speaker 4: but he called it last week. He really I thought he.
- 44:16Speaker 1: Was pretty good because I've watched him and he can
- 44:18Speaker 1: spend it, and he's and you know what, he's older.
- 44:21Speaker 1: He's bited his time. He was recruited by Nick Saban,
- 44:24Speaker 1: so I know he can play quarterback, or Nick Saban
- 44:26Speaker 1: wouldn't have given him a scholarship. And he's waited for
- 44:29Speaker 1: his time, and his time is now. And I'm telling you,
- 44:33Speaker 1: Alabama is going to be a problem going forward. I
- 44:36Speaker 1: think to all of these teams.
- 44:38Speaker 2: And one thing I was telling my wife at lunch,
- 44:41Speaker 2: I always remember Kirby Smart at the SEC met he said, hey, gang,
- 44:44Speaker 2: I've got sixty five first or second year players. This
- 44:47Speaker 2: is the youngest team. Yes he did experienced since I've
- 44:50Speaker 2: been here. Yes he did, and once again, experience at
- 44:54Speaker 2: a quarterback. That's just okay, just okay, that's just okay.
- 44:58Speaker 2: And getting back to what Rusty said, I agree with him.
- 45:01Speaker 2: It's on every given sent there's not a number one
- 45:04Speaker 2: team out there right now. But who shows up for
- 45:06Speaker 2: the big games? Oregon showed up for the big game.
- 45:08Speaker 2: Alabama showed up for the big game. A and M
- 45:11Speaker 2: showed up for the big game. Of Notre Dame.
- 45:12Speaker 1: Ohio State went to Washington. Had problems, but one you
- 45:16Speaker 1: think of Notre Dame. Yeah they pulled late, but yeah, man,
- 45:20Speaker 1: but defensively they're as good as we thought.
- 45:23Speaker 4: Yeah they are.
- 45:26Speaker 2: Oregon is good. If Notre Dame would have beat A
- 45:27Speaker 2: and M, they might be number.
- 45:28Speaker 1: I steal your coach, and I like their coach. Don't
- 45:31Speaker 1: get me wrong. He you talked about the cockiness of
- 45:34Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin. This guy's over the top, right he he
- 45:37Speaker 1: just walks with a swagger. He talks with the swagger.
- 45:41Speaker 2: He walks into the stadium and we're gonna kick your butt.
- 45:44Speaker 1: There's nothing you can do about it. Well, the team
- 45:46Speaker 1: feeds off that, right, they go into that environment.
- 45:49Speaker 2: And I was with UCS.
- 45:50Speaker 1: I originally pickpin Steak because I know, man, going on
- 45:54Speaker 1: the road, I don't care.
- 45:55Speaker 2: But in that environment at night.
- 45:58Speaker 1: That is going to be really tough. But guess what
- 46:00Speaker 1: Dan Lining's like, Hey, we don't care. We were listening
- 46:03Speaker 1: to you. We're gonna win this game. But he will
- 46:07Speaker 1: not kick a field goal. He's kind of like Sark.
- 46:10Speaker 1: He won't kick a field goal. That's gotten him beat
- 46:13Speaker 1: before in big games. You know, it got him beat?
- 46:16Speaker 1: Was it what the Washington game they lost? You know
- 46:18Speaker 1: when Bennix went to the playoffs? Yep, he's got to learn.
- 46:26Speaker 1: And I realized the players are like, now we're going
- 46:28Speaker 1: for it. It's fourth down. We don't care how long
- 46:30Speaker 1: we're gonna go. Well, that's great, but if you don't
- 46:33Speaker 1: make it, you should have kicked the field goal in
- 46:34Speaker 1: a game like that.
- 46:35Speaker 2: Very few coaches can win a big game with their
- 46:38Speaker 2: backup quarterback. But he learned at the foot of Nick
- 46:41Speaker 2: Saban when he did that in the National Championship point
- 46:44Speaker 2: and that just added to Lane Kiffin's cockiness. And I watched,
- 46:47Speaker 2: you know, late at night, Sarah, I'm trying to do
- 46:49Speaker 2: my vote. I listened to his postgame and he says
- 46:52Speaker 2: all the right things. He goes, oh, I gotta go
- 46:53Speaker 2: find will you gotta find his daughter's boyfriend from LSU.
- 46:57Speaker 2: I mean, he's got every he's got every.
- 47:00Speaker 1: Have you seen by the way that he's sixty on him,
- 47:04Speaker 1: sixty on him?
- 47:05Speaker 2: Yeah, if you can fight it, I recommend you watch it.
- 47:08Speaker 2: I think it's really good.
- 47:09Speaker 1: Uh And I've said before, I know people around here
- 47:13Speaker 1: don't like Lane Kiffin.
- 47:14Speaker 2: I get that, but I good for the game. But
- 47:17Speaker 2: I love lang Kiffin because I'm in the media business.
- 47:20Speaker 2: I don't have a team. I don't care. I just
- 47:23Speaker 2: like watching him. I like watching him coach. I like
- 47:26Speaker 2: the way his team play seas.
- 47:28Speaker 1: Now here's another coach that if you're gonna if you're
- 47:31Speaker 1: gonna start criticizing. He's lost a lot of those kind
- 47:35Speaker 1: of games that he won on Saturday, Right, He's lost
- 47:37Speaker 1: more of those than he's won since he's been at
- 47:40Speaker 1: Old Miss. I guess my only comeback with, well, he's
- 47:44Speaker 1: at Old Miss. I know they've got good players now,
- 47:46Speaker 1: and he's built that program to have good players. I
- 47:49Speaker 1: get that, But he's gonna have to win some more.
- 47:52Speaker 1: The in fact, he goes to UH Georgia in three weeks.
- 47:57Speaker 2: Yeah, they lost last year to was or someone should
- 48:01Speaker 2: have made the College Football Playoff Kentucky and Florida. He
- 48:04Speaker 2: should have been. I thought this was a huge year
- 48:06Speaker 2: for him. And once again, I'll tell you a coach
- 48:09Speaker 2: that some of the national media hop on like is
- 48:11Speaker 2: Elko because he's always pretty honest, pretty open, and he's
- 48:14Speaker 2: a different style coach. Yes, graduated from Penn. That's not
- 48:19Speaker 2: Penn High School, that's Penn University. And I've read a
- 48:22Speaker 2: lot of national and you gotta have national people on
- 48:25Speaker 2: your side. I mean, just the way it goes. Uh.
- 48:28Speaker 2: You know, Rcie always used to talk about too many
- 48:30Speaker 2: of the media graduated from Texas back and he's right.
- 48:33Speaker 2: It was right, he was right. And once again, is
- 48:35Speaker 2: you got a people in your corner. The more you
- 48:37Speaker 2: have in your corner, it's amazing how that works.
- 48:38Speaker 4: Well, I just look at the you know, the the rankings,
- 48:41Speaker 4: you know in the Ohio State. Yeah, they're they're they're
- 48:44Speaker 4: really good defensively, but they're not They're not that good offensively.
- 48:47Speaker 2: They're not great.
- 48:48Speaker 4: Oregon is pretty pretty darn good both sides. But Miami,
- 48:51Speaker 4: are they really the third best team in the country.
- 48:53Speaker 2: I don't trust the coach. I don't like this.
- 48:56Speaker 1: I do not trust the coach. And I'll know a
- 49:00Speaker 1: little more this week. Uh, that's a good game, this Miami,
- 49:03Speaker 1: Florida Florida State. That's right game where they've already knocked
- 49:08Speaker 1: off Alabama.
- 49:09Speaker 4: One in Florida State had lost that luster by losing
- 49:11Speaker 4: the Virginia.
- 49:12Speaker 2: They didn't get it back by beating Miami. They can,
- 49:15Speaker 2: they can, and that's a rivalry game. I think it's
- 49:18Speaker 2: a good game Saturday night. It's a night game too,
- 49:21Speaker 2: by the way.
- 49:22Speaker 1: Uh and so we'll know more about both those teams.
- 49:25Speaker 1: I just he's got a Mario Christ Paul has to
- 49:29Speaker 1: prove it too.
- 49:29Speaker 4: It is wide open for A to make the playoffs
- 49:33Speaker 4: wide open for them. And I mean you're looking at
- 49:36Speaker 4: A and m sitting there at number six right now already,
- 49:39Speaker 4: and if they just take care of business there, they're
- 49:42Speaker 4: gonna be top five here. If they just win the
- 49:44Speaker 4: next two games at home at Almo.
- 49:46Speaker 2: They're a ten wins win team right now. If they
- 49:48Speaker 2: get eleven.
- 49:50Speaker 4: Yeah, or twelve and their playoff team right now, I mean.
- 49:54Speaker 2: They have all the ingredients I feel, with the D
- 49:57Speaker 2: line coming on with with you go ahead and getting
- 50:00Speaker 2: the defensive second balance in the offense. Balance in the
- 50:04Speaker 2: offense they get, they can get big plays in the
- 50:06Speaker 2: passing game and the running game.
- 50:08Speaker 4: Well, it's it's all right there, it's all right for
- 50:11Speaker 4: the taking. Now. You you still got to prove you
- 50:13Speaker 4: can go on the road and beat LSU and beat
- 50:15Speaker 4: Texas and you better be Florida first. Better Mississippi State.
- 50:19Speaker 2: Now, you better be Mississippi States State first. Then you
- 50:22Speaker 2: better beat Florida.
- 50:23Speaker 4: Right. And like I said, Missouri is a tough road game.
- 50:26Speaker 4: That's one that Missouri's tough, really gets you. But it's
- 50:31Speaker 4: sitting right there for you.
- 50:32Speaker 2: Oh it is. It is.
- 50:33Speaker 4: And the schedule is not nearly as daunting as I
- 50:37Speaker 4: thought it would.
- 50:37Speaker 2: Be, not right now, not as you're looking at it.
- 50:40Speaker 2: One wine to day, that one win, one by whatever,
- 50:44Speaker 2: the mercher maker or whatever. It was pretty important.
- 50:46Speaker 4: One point makes a big difference, isn't there?
- 50:49Speaker 1: Oh my gosh about playoff playoffs. And and as as
- 50:55Speaker 1: I said last Monday, these conference games just they're a
- 50:59Speaker 1: whole different animal when.
- 51:00Speaker 2: You get in a constute, when you're a conference.
- 51:04Speaker 1: It's just a whole different animal. And I said before
- 51:07Speaker 1: the Auburn game, you look at this game, A and
- 51:10Speaker 1: M should win by two to three touchdowns. And I said,
- 51:14Speaker 1: if they don't do something stupid and make mistakes. So
- 51:18Speaker 1: as we talk about the first of the you know,
- 51:21Speaker 1: they made a couple of big mistakes. It was a
- 51:24Speaker 1: fourteen point swing. It would have been more fitting of
- 51:28Speaker 1: the game itself if it was twenty three to three,
- 51:32Speaker 1: and you know, not sixteen to ten. But it doesn't matter,
- 51:38Speaker 1: Mississippi State. You're sitting here right now. It's a fourteen
- 51:41Speaker 1: and a half point favorite. I don't bet. I might
- 51:45Speaker 1: take the points in that game, but if you win
- 51:50Speaker 1: by one, that doesn't matter. You just you win. It's
- 51:55Speaker 1: a tournament, right, We're in the tournament.
- 51:57Speaker 4: I do bet, and I'm not picking A and M again,
- 52:00Speaker 4: they they are not.
- 52:02Speaker 2: We are in the tournament now. All these teams are
- 52:05Speaker 2: in the tournament now, right.
- 52:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I picked that M. I picked that at M
- 52:09Speaker 4: to cover and six and a half of the line.
- 52:13Speaker 2: So they haven't covered. They covered once.
- 52:15Speaker 4: No, no, it's no today. And that's it.
- 52:17Speaker 2: And when getting back what you said, Chip, all you
- 52:20Speaker 2: have to do is win. And they're good enough to
- 52:22Speaker 2: overcome mistakes. That's the mark of a good team too.
- 52:25Speaker 2: You know Saban made mistakes, but his team were so
- 52:28Speaker 2: good you didn't notice them as much.
- 52:29Speaker 4: Here's here's the reality is that you know when A
- 52:32Speaker 4: has been good that that twenty twenty season, it wasn't
- 52:36Speaker 4: the thing of beauty. They won a bunch of games
- 52:38Speaker 4: there that you know, hard fuck games, right, but they
- 52:41Speaker 4: still they you know, they're right there on the edge,
- 52:43Speaker 4: you know, all the way back to nineteen ninety eight.
- 52:45Speaker 4: I mean, there was a bunch of ugly wins that year,
- 52:47Speaker 4: but they won the Big twelve title and they knocked
- 52:49Speaker 4: off Kannas State, and that's what you remember. But you
- 52:52Speaker 4: don't remember a lot of these ugly wins. And as
- 52:55Speaker 4: long as they in them just keeps winning, it doesn't
- 52:57Speaker 4: really matter.
- 52:58Speaker 2: Zero yee exactly. That's zero here on the right side
- 53:02Speaker 2: of the ledger. And as long as you have that,
- 53:04Speaker 2: the style points don't don't your name's up on I'm
- 53:07Speaker 2: looking up at ESPN. Your name's up there all the time.
- 53:10Speaker 1: Yeah, zero, yeah, right, yeah, the style points just that
- 53:13Speaker 1: don't matter at this point because you have to win
- 53:15Speaker 1: at Notre Dame. You've got plenty of other chances down
- 53:18Speaker 1: the line to make even get even more people impressed, right, Yeah, you.
- 53:24Speaker 4: Just take care of business the next two weeks and
- 53:26Speaker 4: you're you're golden right now.
- 53:27Speaker 2: In the tough five I think, okay, we'll pay off
- 53:30Speaker 2: a little bit, you know, we might. We'll see, well,
- 53:34Speaker 2: I mean, you know, so far Seas. I'm with you.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Uh, he has, he has gotten the defense back to
- 53:41Speaker 1: what he vowed he would after.
- 53:43Speaker 2: The USC game.
- 53:44Speaker 1: In the bowl game, that was unacceptable. Uh, it's good
- 53:49Speaker 1: to have the DB's healthy.
- 53:50Speaker 4: You know.
- 53:51Speaker 1: He was talking about des Rix today. He was talking
- 53:53Speaker 1: about Tyreek Chappelle who's been injured and is just now
- 53:57Speaker 1: beginning to feel good with the knee.
- 54:00Speaker 2: Uh. That's another big deal, right, and one without Scooby Williams.
- 54:03Speaker 2: Once again, you gotta, you gotta, you gotta overcome your mistakes.
- 54:06Speaker 2: You've got to overcome your injuries, because you know, if
- 54:08Speaker 2: you're gonna play twelve, thirteen, fourteen games, you're gonna have
- 54:11Speaker 2: you're gonna have hiccups. Like Rusty said, you just gotta
- 54:13Speaker 2: get get through them.
- 54:16Speaker 1: Anything else on the schedule this week, guys, we talked
- 54:20Speaker 1: a little bit about Miami and Florida State.
- 54:22Speaker 2: I like that one. Uh how about Texas going to Florida?
- 54:26Speaker 1: Yeah, because I haven't seen the What's what's the line
- 54:29Speaker 1: on that game?
- 54:30Speaker 12: Do you know?
- 54:30Speaker 4: See?
- 54:31Speaker 2: I thought it was like a mutched. I think it
- 54:33Speaker 2: was a touchdown. I'm looking for seeing what happened. I
- 54:36Speaker 2: want to see what happens. Dela I want to see
- 54:39Speaker 2: what happens LSU, because I think LSU their bubbles could burst,
- 54:42Speaker 2: you know burst. Last last year it did and coming
- 54:45Speaker 2: had a heisman, couldn't do anything. Then last year they
- 54:47Speaker 2: didn't do that. Well. Their quarterback's not playing like Maser
- 54:50Speaker 2: supposed to be the guy. I think there's some pressure
- 54:52Speaker 2: on mister Kelly. Uh.
- 54:54Speaker 1: Fortunately for them, they have an open date this week
- 54:57Speaker 1: and then they host South Carolina.
- 54:58Speaker 2: He called out the reporter the week before it would
- 55:01Speaker 2: criticize him for only being able to score thirteen offensive points.
- 55:04Speaker 2: I guess the reporter knew what he was asking about
- 55:06Speaker 2: because they could have used those thirteen points. As you mentioned,
- 55:09Speaker 2: they haven't. They haven't been that great, you know, offensively
- 55:13Speaker 2: for sure. I thought they talk about a place where
- 55:15Speaker 2: Adam's as tough winning.
- 55:16Speaker 4: Did you hear the Johnny Manziel's gonna be on the
- 55:18Speaker 4: sideline for the Vanderbilt Alabama game because because he's recording the.
- 55:26Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it's a hero. That's awesome.
- 55:30Speaker 4: Yeah. So I thought that was interesting.
- 55:32Speaker 2: Gentlemen, We're done for now. We've got more to talk
- 55:36Speaker 2: about next week. You don't have to lie when you
