- 0:00Speaker 1: Sit after the Ramas Law hotline car accident. You need
- 0:02Speaker 1: Ramos Law Medical doctrine attorney Ramas Law dot com. We
- 0:05Speaker 1: are joined as we are every Thursday at nine o'clock
- 0:07Speaker 1: by Jeff Lagwalldo ESPN dot com.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Hello, Leggy, morning fellas.
- 0:12Speaker 3: Good morning.
- 0:14Speaker 1: So first, some of the releases going on in Miami
- 0:19Speaker 1: releasing Bradley Chubb, releasing Tyreek Hill uh, putting the Tyreek
- 0:25Speaker 1: extracurriculars to the side. What do you think he is
- 0:28Speaker 1: as a player right now?
- 0:31Speaker 4: Well, I don't think anybody knows, right. I mean, he's
- 0:34Speaker 4: coming off a horrific injury, so I think a lot
- 0:38Speaker 4: of folks are physically wondering what it will look like
- 0:43Speaker 4: when he comes back. You're talking about a guy whose
- 0:45Speaker 4: entire sort of skill set is based on being one
- 0:50Speaker 4: of the fastest players, if not the fastest player in
- 0:53Speaker 4: the league, and you have a lower body injury that's serious.
- 0:57Speaker 4: People are going to wonder, you know, how it's going
- 1:01Speaker 4: to be when you come back. So I think that's
- 1:03Speaker 4: the biggest question people have beyond all of the other
- 1:08Speaker 4: off the field stuff. So that's a pretty tough double
- 1:11Speaker 4: dip for.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Him coming back.
- 1:14Speaker 4: I think he would have to prove to somebody he's physically,
- 1:18Speaker 4: you know, ready to roll even before the conversation would
- 1:21Speaker 4: get started.
- 1:22Speaker 5: Jeff, I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
- 1:24Speaker 5: I saw your colleagues at ESPN speculating about an aj
- 1:27Speaker 5: Brown trade to the Broncos, and Brett's gonna.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Get in more of that.
- 1:31Speaker 5: Where where's the line of demarcation with player who can
- 1:36Speaker 5: really help you versus the baggage they bring with them.
- 1:40Speaker 4: It's most that is always, you know, much like hockey.
- 1:44Speaker 4: You know that you're it's much like what the head
- 1:47Speaker 4: coach and the GM are willing to sort of tolerate.
- 1:51Speaker 4: You know, who are you going to put in the
- 1:53Speaker 4: room as it were? Now, They've they've made a very
- 1:56Speaker 4: big public constant refrain here about how much they like
- 2:03Speaker 4: the composition of their locker room. So I think that
- 2:08Speaker 4: I think they take that into consideration here more than
- 2:11Speaker 4: some other teams would.
- 2:14Speaker 2: But you know, here they're going to listen to Sean.
- 2:16Speaker 4: Payton, you know, if he really really really wants a player,
- 2:19Speaker 4: They're going to try and figure out how to get
- 2:21Speaker 4: it without you know, giving up too much, you know,
- 2:27Speaker 4: make it to one sided. So it but I think
- 2:30Speaker 4: that would take a long conversation between the coach and
- 2:33Speaker 4: the player. Here, I think the player would have to
- 2:37Speaker 4: convince Sean Payton, hey, I'm not going to be a problem,
- 2:41Speaker 4: and you know, kind of an eye to eye conversation
- 2:45Speaker 4: like what are you going to do for me type
- 2:47Speaker 4: of thing, and then they would consider, Okay, now what
- 2:52Speaker 4: will it take to get the player I you know,
- 2:56Speaker 4: you know it's it's anecdotal, sure, because it's not scientific.
- 2:59Speaker 4: But you know, everyone I've spoken to in the league
- 3:01Speaker 4: about just doing my draft rounds the past week or so,
- 3:06Speaker 4: they still don't believe the Eagles that Howie Roseman's gonna
- 3:11Speaker 4: be willing to trade a player of that talent unless
- 3:14Speaker 4: he can win the trade significantly.
- 3:17Speaker 5: Yeah, but if you're fighting with Jalen Hurtz and you've
- 3:19Speaker 5: won a Super Bowl and you're in the face of
- 3:22Speaker 5: your the last I told the Boys, the last thing
- 3:24Speaker 5: I remember about AJ Brown this year was against the Niners.
- 3:27Speaker 5: He's in the face of his coach fighting on the sideline. Man,
- 3:30Speaker 5: I don't want that.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I don't.
- 3:32Speaker 5: And it's not just necessarily Aj, it's it's anybody who
- 3:35Speaker 5: would do that to cause a ruckus amongst the team,
- 3:38Speaker 5: And to me, you only go and get those guys.
- 3:40Speaker 5: If you're a team that you need, God, you're desperate,
- 3:42Speaker 5: you're willing to put up with the brain damage in
- 3:44Speaker 5: order to try to get over the hump. But if
- 3:46Speaker 5: you're already a good team and the number one seed,
- 3:48Speaker 5: why bring that into your room.
- 3:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, that's gonna always be the consideration for
- 3:53Speaker 4: a player like it. I just know when the Eagles,
- 3:56Speaker 4: you know, the Eagles aren't like other teams when they're
- 3:59Speaker 4: when they're making trades, they're looking to win.
- 4:03Speaker 2: They're not just looking to.
- 4:04Speaker 4: Move players and move pieces around the board.
- 4:08Speaker 2: They're looking to win the deal.
- 4:10Speaker 4: And when when a player, even as talented as AJ
- 4:13Speaker 4: Brown is, you know, when he brings that other stuff,
- 4:17Speaker 4: it's it's hard for to win a deal like that significantly.
- 4:21Speaker 4: So I think the Eagles would have to make some concessions.
- 4:25Speaker 4: And again I haven't spoken to everybody. They could be
- 4:28Speaker 4: doing lots of things behind the scenes. I haven't heard,
- 4:31Speaker 4: But the folks I've talked to haven't seen or heard
- 4:35Speaker 4: any of those sort of concessions yet. But it's early,
- 4:39Speaker 4: you know, there's a long way to the draft weekend,
- 4:43Speaker 4: when the action really picks up and the combine is
- 4:46Speaker 4: next week. I mean, that is just ground zero of
- 4:50Speaker 4: discussions about everything league wide, including you know, that's when
- 4:56Speaker 4: the real business of making trades get started because guys
- 5:01Speaker 4: gms can meet out out face to face wherever they want,
- 5:05Speaker 4: you know, in the city.
- 5:07Speaker 6: Hey, Jeffrey, there's a big concern in the NBA right
- 5:10Speaker 6: now for teams who are tanking, and it's pretty bad.
- 5:14Speaker 6: Are the Miami Dolphins tanking in the NFL? Is that
- 5:18Speaker 6: what they're doing right now?
- 5:19Speaker 4: They're not tanking, vic, but the salary cap forces you
- 5:22Speaker 4: to make painful decisions, you know, whether that's financial tanking,
- 5:27Speaker 4: you know, Uh, they're just not in a position the
- 5:31Speaker 4: Broncos were. I mean, when when the Broncos had to
- 5:35Speaker 4: elected to you know, release Russell Wilson and take on
- 5:40Speaker 4: their salary cap mayhem, they had a quarterback on a
- 5:45Speaker 4: rookie contract, which is infinitely easier to do than what
- 5:50Speaker 4: the Dolphins are trying to do. And you know, you've
- 5:53Speaker 4: got teams like the Saints and others that have not
- 5:58Speaker 4: taken it down to the found foundation to rebuild. You know,
- 6:02Speaker 4: they just keep trying to hang around and that's tough
- 6:05Speaker 4: to do. I think the Dolphins have finally made the
- 6:07Speaker 4: call of you know, got to move some of these
- 6:12Speaker 4: contracts out of here, got to make room and take
- 6:16Speaker 4: the financial pain.
- 6:17Speaker 2: But they're still not in good shape.
- 6:19Speaker 4: They're they're just trying to get enough salary cap room
- 6:21Speaker 4: to do business, and in the NFL, that's never where
- 6:26Speaker 4: you want to be. I know people love to chat, oh,
- 6:29Speaker 4: the salary caps not real and all that, but dead
- 6:33Speaker 4: money is real, and dealing with dead money is real,
- 6:37Speaker 4: and you got to avoid if you're gonna be good
- 6:40Speaker 4: over the long haul, you got to avoid that type
- 6:44Speaker 4: of sort of cratering. And you know the old saying,
- 6:49Speaker 4: better to get rid of a player one year too
- 6:52Speaker 4: early than one year too late if you're the team.
- 6:55Speaker 4: Not if you're the player, but if you're the team.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Jeff Lakewold with us All conversations with leg Year brought
- 6:59Speaker 1: to you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers IVW
- 7:03Speaker 1: Local sixty eight, start with a job in with the career.
- 7:07Speaker 1: I've seen a lot of Broncos fans that seemed to
- 7:09Speaker 1: be very flippant about the idea of Riley Moss just
- 7:12Speaker 1: being an asset you can move from. Can you explain
- 7:16Speaker 1: to people what kind of cornerback Riley Moss is.
- 7:19Speaker 4: Well, to start with, he actually fixed what his on
- 7:23Speaker 4: field problem was. You know, look at the flags early
- 7:27Speaker 4: in the season, look at the flags late in the season.
- 7:30Speaker 4: The guy did the work, he improved, he made adjustments.
- 7:36Speaker 4: People weren't going at him any less coming down the stretch.
- 7:40Speaker 4: He just played differently and better. And that's not a
- 7:44Speaker 4: skill that's very common, you know, even among the best
- 7:48Speaker 4: of athletes. So start there. Also start he's one of
- 7:52Speaker 4: the most high volume snap guys in the league. Most
- 7:56Speaker 4: snaps played at corner, most manned man snaps played at corner,
- 8:00Speaker 4: I mean, pick a category, Riley Moss is at the
- 8:03Speaker 4: top or near the top.
- 8:05Speaker 2: So uh, but John A.
- 8:07Speaker 4: Baron's got to have a place to play too at
- 8:10Speaker 4: some point. I think that's what people look at is
- 8:13Speaker 4: the Broncos are maybe the deepest team at the most
- 8:18Speaker 4: one of the most important positions defensively.
- 8:20Speaker 2: In the league.
- 8:21Speaker 4: So they do have more assets there than other people do,
- 8:26Speaker 4: including Baron, McMillan and Moss. And I think a lot
- 8:31Speaker 4: of yeah, I mean a lot of gms around the
- 8:34Speaker 4: league have their eye on McMillan and Moss, sure, because
- 8:38Speaker 4: they they're playing off the premise. Most people are that
- 8:43Speaker 4: eventually Johday Baron's got to be somewhere. H unless you're
- 8:47Speaker 4: just gonna play Nickel one hundred percent of the time
- 8:50Speaker 4: and you know, you go from there. But as long
- 8:53Speaker 4: as they have that kind of depth, I think Riley's
- 8:55Speaker 4: going to have to deal with hearing and and people
- 8:59Speaker 4: asking him about, hey, you're going to betrayed. But the
- 9:02Speaker 4: Broncos love him as a player. It would take a
- 9:05Speaker 4: lot for them to part with the depth at corner.
- 9:09Speaker 4: They think that separates them from other defenses in the league.
- 9:13Speaker 3: So what's next, you say, the combines? Next? Is that correct?
- 9:16Speaker 2: Next week?
- 9:17Speaker 3: You got your hotel room ready?
- 9:19Speaker 2: Uh, you know, well in advance and may have a
- 9:22Speaker 2: gold plate of him.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Why are we even so then, why are we even
- 9:24Speaker 3: talking to you today?
- 9:25Speaker 6: Well, the reason why it's it's it's important is because
- 9:28Speaker 6: now the state of Indiana will house two. By the way,
- 9:34Speaker 6: your team you should be in. You should turn in
- 9:39Speaker 6: your Chicago card right now.
- 9:41Speaker 4: You know it's it's I'll tell you the fun The
- 9:43Speaker 4: weirdest thing is that my dad worked for the railroad.
- 9:46Speaker 5: Yeah, your old man did work for the river for
- 9:48Speaker 5: eighty seven years to have the Bears move to him, and.
- 9:51Speaker 4: Oh, he would be telling him this would be crushing,
- 9:54Speaker 4: but uh, he always and I mean always, but you know,
- 9:59Speaker 4: one one of my first jobs with shovel and gravel
- 10:02Speaker 4: and loading up old.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Rails in the trucks that they were hauling away. But
- 10:10Speaker 2: we always there.
- 10:12Speaker 4: There is a much like the Burnham area here right
- 10:18Speaker 4: you can see it from Soldier Field.
- 10:20Speaker 2: There is this.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Enormous rail yard no one uses anymore. And somehow the
- 10:26Speaker 4: Bears in Chicago can't figure out how to simply put
- 10:30Speaker 4: the stadium right there. Bears stay in Chicago, it's still
- 10:35Speaker 4: on the lake front. Everybody have a nice day. It
- 10:39Speaker 4: should take like ten minutes, and yet they're probably going
- 10:44Speaker 4: to be in Hammond because the Bears want more money
- 10:48Speaker 4: for a stadium than the state of Illinois or Cook
- 10:51Speaker 4: County wants to give them.
- 10:53Speaker 2: And it's the big difference.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Go ahead, go ahead, Sorry, no, it's.
- 10:58Speaker 2: It's why this project is different.
- 11:01Speaker 4: If the Broncos were asking Denver and the county and
- 11:06Speaker 4: the state for that money to build that stadium, you
- 11:11Speaker 4: guys would be spending a lot more time talking about
- 11:14Speaker 4: that than you are right now.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Right now. It's a given.
- 11:18Speaker 4: Oh, Broncos are going to build a new stadium, and uh,
- 11:22Speaker 4: the city of Denver or the county or the state,
- 11:25Speaker 4: uh spend some money to raise the light rail so
- 11:29Speaker 4: people can walk under it to get to the stadium.
- 11:31Speaker 2: And you know, like no must, no fuss. But it
- 11:35Speaker 2: ain't like that there.
- 11:36Speaker 4: The Bears want money from the state.
- 11:39Speaker 2: And they don't have.
- 11:42Speaker 1: A second hang on hand on. I want to go
- 11:44Speaker 1: back to something you said. You said they're probably going
- 11:47Speaker 1: to move to him and so this isn't a posturing thing.
- 11:49Speaker 1: You think they're actually going to go that.
- 11:52Speaker 4: The Indiana state legislature is so far ahead of Illinois
- 11:55Speaker 4: right now. They've already approved all of the the bo
- 12:01Speaker 4: zones and all of the things they would have to do.
- 12:04Speaker 4: And they're using a model they used to build Lucas
- 12:07Speaker 4: Oil Stadium. They're using the same financial public private model
- 12:13Speaker 4: that they they used to build uh, you know, Lucas
- 12:17Speaker 4: Oil Stadium. And yeah, no, I I I think people
- 12:22Speaker 4: I grew up with and and uh, folks I've known
- 12:26Speaker 4: there my whole life are are sadly underestimating the the
- 12:32Speaker 4: actual chance that the Bears will be like the you know,
- 12:38Speaker 4: the New York Giants that they are the Chicago Bears,
- 12:41Speaker 4: but play in another state on game day.
- 12:44Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Then, you know, the lake Forest where their facility is,
- 12:50Speaker 4: can't be any farther away from where that stadium would
- 12:54Speaker 4: be in Indiana lake Forest. I mean, it's it's way
- 13:02Speaker 4: and you know, look you're early used in the stadium
- 13:04Speaker 4: on game day and all that, but it's still would be.
- 13:07Speaker 4: That's a lot farther than the Giants. You know, Jeff,
- 13:10Speaker 4: I used to live in the Giants practice where they play,
- 13:15Speaker 4: where they play games.
- 13:16Speaker 5: I used to live in. I used to live in Deerfield.
- 13:19Speaker 5: That is a long way away from him in Indiana.
- 13:21Speaker 5: I can promise you that, man, that's because.
- 13:24Speaker 4: That's that's high cotton. That's high cotton. My friend, you're
- 13:27Speaker 4: doing okay?
- 13:30Speaker 5: Not well, no really, no, not really.
- 13:34Speaker 2: They wouldn't even let us drive through Deerfield.
- 13:39Speaker 3: I live by.
- 13:40Speaker 5: If it's any consolation, I lived right next to the
- 13:42Speaker 5: Sarah Lee plant that's no longer.
- 13:44Speaker 3: That no longer.
- 13:44Speaker 4: Exists, no longer.
- 13:46Speaker 2: They're like a lot of plants, right they went his picture.
- 13:49Speaker 6: You beat this picture like you grew up in Cabrini Green.
- 13:52Speaker 6: Calm down a little.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Bit here, you have no idea, mister Hyland.
- 14:00Speaker 3: That's awesome. What it just spent my summers in Nantucket.
- 14:03Speaker 2: What's the big deal?
- 14:04Speaker 5: Hey, So the next time we talk to you, you're
- 14:06Speaker 5: gonna be looking at guys in underwear?
- 14:07Speaker 3: Is that right?
- 14:08Speaker 5: Or what?
- 14:09Speaker 4: I love how you phrase it as if you don't
- 14:12Speaker 4: roam the locker room of the Avalanche had a great deal.
- 14:15Speaker 3: I mean, when when does the combine start it?
- 14:19Speaker 4: Uh, players start arriving Sunday night, but I get there Monday,
- 14:24Speaker 4: So the workout start Thursday, which is all anybody really
- 14:27Speaker 4: cares about.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Okay, cool, Jeff Legwell joined us every single Thursday.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Always appreciate it.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Let you thank you, Thanks fellas.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Let's say Jeff Lagwell ESPN dot com joins us on
- 14:36Speaker 1: the Ramos Lot hot line.
- 14:37Speaker 4: That's crazy.
- 14:38Speaker 1: When he said they really probably, I was like, wait
- 14:40Speaker 1: a minute, what do you mean probably? I thought this
- 14:42Speaker 1: was all like don't make us do it?
- 14:44Speaker 3: Oh, but isn't that the way it works?
- 14:46Speaker 5: Like, oh, they won't move, they won't they they're not
- 14:50Speaker 5: going anywhere.
- 14:51Speaker 3: Think oh, gother in Indiana, think about.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Dallas, just being like we're playing in New Orleans now
- 14:55Speaker 1: or something or Louisiana, just like, yeah, but it doesn't
- 14:58Speaker 1: make any sense.
- 14:58Speaker 6: If you look at the map where ham is located,
- 15:00Speaker 6: where they want to place the stadium. Geographically, it's about
- 15:02Speaker 6: the same distances downtown Chago to Chicago to Hammond.
- 15:06Speaker 3: But it's but it's as it is. But it's a
- 15:09Speaker 3: different state. I get it.
- 15:10Speaker 4: I get it.
- 15:11Speaker 1: It's like when so growing up in Omaha, Council Bluffs
- 15:14Speaker 1: is fifteen minutes away.
- 15:15Speaker 2: That's Iowa.
- 15:16Speaker 1: But if you were going to call something the Nebraska
- 15:18Speaker 1: somethings that that would not fly if it was in
- 15:21Speaker 1: Council Bluffs.
- 15:22Speaker 3: That's another state. It's weird, man,
