Lake Superior Zoo’s got a wild new twist on democracy: their first-ever “Mayor of the Zoo” election, designed to spark early voting habits in kids. Five animal candidates — an African bullfrog, spiny mouse, red fox, black bear, and snapping turtle — are vying for office with secret campaign promises (coming soon!). Voting opens August 21 and runs through September 15, both in-person and online, one ballot per day. The top two advance to a second round from September 21 to November 10.
