- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we share a lesson each day to help you cultivate the habits for writing success.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: There is a common narrative among successful people that you have to be a morning person in order to do anything worthwhile.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: A pretty good percentage of the world's most successful people get a very early start to their day, sometimes as early as 4 or 5 a.m.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: For example, Ernest Hemingway said, When I am working on a book or a story, I write every morning as soon after first light as possible.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: There's no one to disturb you, and it is cool or cold, and you come to your work and warm as you write.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: You read what you have written, and as you always stop, when you know what is going to happen next, you go on from there.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Now, those are great words from Ernest Hemingway, and of course he's a master of writing, and who would ever debate that?
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: But remember, though, that for every successful writer who's an early bird, there's also another successful writer who's a complete night owl.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: The point is not to write at a certain time, but instead the point is to write and create when your energy is at its highest.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Now, I think for most people this is probably going to be in the morning or at least the first part of the day, although your energy may peak at a different time of the day or night.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: So if you're a night owl, go with it.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: If you're an afternoon person, go with it.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: It doesn't really matter whether it's in the morning, afternoon, evening, late night, or sometime in between.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Again, the point is to write at whatever time works best for you and don't feel guilty if you see all kinds of other people writing at certain times, but your writing energy comes best at another time.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: I have a great friend who's working on a book and she's a total night owl.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: And sometimes she works on her stuff in the middle of the night, and she gets up around 9 or 10 a.m.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: And you know what?
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: That's totally cool.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Do what works for you.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: As long as the words get written, it doesn't matter when you write them.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Here's your daily question What time of day is your energy at the highest, and how could you use that to your advantage when writing?
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
