- 0:14Speaker 1: He remember FDI see.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Jordan Everly back with us here for season five the
- 0:19Speaker 2: Camptain once again, I would say, happy and healthy. Get
- 0:21Speaker 2: to have you back once again, my friend. And first off,
- 0:23Speaker 2: I'll begin with the four years here and perhaps many
- 0:26Speaker 2: more in your NHL career. What do you tell your
- 0:28Speaker 2: younger self if you could, about what you would expect
- 0:31Speaker 2: playing here in Seattle.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Well, when I came in, I wasn't young to begin with,
- 0:37Speaker 3: but I think you know I've I've enjoyed my time
- 0:41Speaker 3: here for sure. We've kind of made this our home.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Two kids have been born here. You know, I kind
- 0:46Speaker 3: of what I expected was what I got. I knew
- 0:49Speaker 3: coming in here. I was a Seahawks fan. I knew
- 0:51Speaker 3: a passionate. The fans were about sports here, not just them,
- 0:54Speaker 3: but the Mariners, and they've kind of adopted the same thing.
- 0:58Speaker 3: The fans have been unbelievable. The organization, the ownership, the
- 1:02Speaker 3: amenities that were given, the money that they put into
- 1:05Speaker 3: this team. It's been nothing but first class. So, like
- 1:08Speaker 3: I said, I've everything that I expected has happened.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I believe you threw the first pitch out at the
- 1:14Speaker 2: Mariners recently. The experience for you, how was it?
- 1:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, you're you try to play cool and
- 1:20Speaker 3: I always I think I was talking a big game
- 1:22Speaker 3: about trying to actually go out there and throw on
- 1:24Speaker 3: a good one down there, and then as soon as
- 1:25Speaker 3: you get to the mountain you can kind of cop out.
- 1:27Speaker 3: You just kind of make sure it gets there. So
- 1:29Speaker 3: it was a neat experience, I think to do that
- 1:32Speaker 3: with my kids coming on the field. Uh, and obviously
- 1:34Speaker 3: they're playing so well and on a streak, and I
- 1:37Speaker 3: didn't ruin that, not that it really had anything to
- 1:39Speaker 3: do with it, but it was just it's a great ballpark.
- 1:42Speaker 3: It's you get to the baseball this time of the year,
- 1:44Speaker 3: when you're in the hunt, it's it's it's exciting to watch.
- 1:46Speaker 2: So what difference to doesn't make when you're able to
- 1:48Speaker 2: go into the tunnel and get a few warm up
- 1:50Speaker 2: tosses and versus just going out cold arm live and
- 1:52Speaker 2: facing forty thousand people all looking at you on the
- 1:55Speaker 2: mound there for the first pitch.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that, Like I said, you just want
- 1:57Speaker 3: to get it down there. You don't want to embarrass yourself.
- 1:59Speaker 3: But I talked a big game before and then I,
- 2:02Speaker 3: like I said, I completely copped out.
- 2:04Speaker 2: What's the funniest thing that you've ever had to autograph
- 2:06Speaker 2: for a fan? You know what?
- 2:08Speaker 3: I think the funniest thing would be, you know, just
- 2:12Speaker 3: the I can't really think of anything that comes at
- 2:14Speaker 3: the top of my head. You sign, it's it's just
- 2:18Speaker 3: all a blur, right, Yeah, some people have some unique
- 2:21Speaker 3: artwork that they've made that you want to sign, stuff
- 2:23Speaker 3: like that. I remember someone made a poster for one
- 2:25Speaker 3: of my kids last year that they gave me and
- 2:29Speaker 3: it was just I looked at it. I was like, Wow,
- 2:30Speaker 3: you drew that. So, I mean there's fans are regenerous
- 2:33Speaker 3: here for sure.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Calgary is where you call home usually in the off season.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Where's the first place you're taking a buddy if he
- 2:40Speaker 2: visits you in town?
- 2:41Speaker 3: Well, hopefully he comes during Stampede. I mean that would
- 2:43Speaker 3: make it easy because we would just head there. But
- 2:46Speaker 3: you know, I I big passion of mine the summertime
- 2:49Speaker 3: in hobbies to golf, so I would just probably take
- 2:51Speaker 3: him the golf course house.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Family holding up right now.
- 2:53Speaker 3: They're doing good. Yet, they're doing good, they're busy. They're
- 2:56Speaker 3: the two, you know, the five and three that actually
- 2:58Speaker 3: start skating here at CA c I, so that'll be fun.
- 3:02Speaker 3: And daughters started school. Everyone's kind of settled in and
- 3:06Speaker 3: and we we got here early enough to get going
- 3:07Speaker 3: to do that.
- 3:08Speaker 2: So inquiring parents want to know, for you, what's the
- 3:11Speaker 2: secrets to raising three kids at home?
- 3:14Speaker 1: I have a good.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Wife, I guess. I mean, we're gone so much. You know,
- 3:18Speaker 3: you try to be president when you're home and you
- 3:20Speaker 3: try to get as much time in. But I mean
- 3:23Speaker 3: the ultimate is that we're we're playing. It's either on
- 3:26Speaker 3: the road game day or it's game day at home,
- 3:28Speaker 3: so you know, you try to It's it's tough, you know.
- 3:32Speaker 3: But now that they're getting a little bit older, they're
- 3:33Speaker 3: able to come to the games and enjoy that, which
- 3:35Speaker 3: I enjoy seeing there. And and then their activities, like
- 3:39Speaker 3: I said, they're skating here, which is awesome. I get
- 3:41Speaker 3: a chance to see them more often. So but yeah,
- 3:44Speaker 3: I definitely the first answer to get to make sure
- 3:46Speaker 3: you're wife styled.
- 3:47Speaker 2: In well, we asked this question a few years ago,
- 3:49Speaker 2: but updating this now, what's the best part about being
- 3:52Speaker 2: a father?
- 3:52Speaker 3: You know, it's probably the same answer I had last year.
- 3:54Speaker 3: It just gives you perspective. You know, I was came
- 3:58Speaker 3: into this league and and you know, you live and
- 4:00Speaker 3: die by hockey and I still do. And you know,
- 4:03Speaker 3: you're taking losses home and wins home, the highs and
- 4:06Speaker 3: the lows, right, and you come home and they don't
- 4:10Speaker 3: really care how the game wins, so they it gives
- 4:12Speaker 3: you perspective. It's able to You're able to get away
- 4:14Speaker 3: from the rink a little bit more, which I think
- 4:16Speaker 3: honestly helps your game just that much more.
- 4:19Speaker 2: If I can dial this back to last season, not
- 4:21Speaker 2: that the freakus injury is in the rear view mirror.
- 4:24Speaker 2: You said that there were some days where it admittedly
- 4:27Speaker 2: crossed your mind that maybe would you ever play again,
- 4:30Speaker 2: and that was in doubt. How critical was family or
- 4:33Speaker 2: the group text to get you through that?
- 4:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I think, well, first off, we had a baby,
- 4:38Speaker 3: you know, days after I got home from surgery, so
- 4:41Speaker 3: that kind of brightened my spirits. But yeah, I mean
- 4:43Speaker 3: they kept me, you know, my mind happy. At least
- 4:47Speaker 3: there's you know, it was never a dull moment at
- 4:50Speaker 3: home there's kids flying around, but yeah, ultimately watching games
- 4:53Speaker 3: and missing the group and then just kind of taking
- 4:57Speaker 3: it day by day. You know, once you learn you
- 5:00Speaker 3: get to start walking again on a cane, and then
- 5:02Speaker 3: you know, you get to actually start walking, learn how
- 5:04Speaker 3: to walk and start skating. And it was just the
- 5:07Speaker 3: day by day process really. I mean, ultimately, I knew
- 5:10Speaker 3: I was going to get back after a while, and
- 5:12Speaker 3: maybe not as quick as I thought I was, but
- 5:15Speaker 3: I mean I was happy with how it turned out
- 5:18Speaker 3: as far as you know, the recovery time, was able
- 5:20Speaker 3: to finish the year last year, and then just the
- 5:22Speaker 3: summer training I had and where I'm at now, I feel,
- 5:24Speaker 3: you know, like I did at the start of camp
- 5:26Speaker 3: last year. So I'm excited and rare to go. I
- 5:28Speaker 3: feel like I got to kind of got robbed of
- 5:30Speaker 3: the season last year, and you know, I want to
- 5:32Speaker 3: pick up.
- 5:33Speaker 2: At this stage of your career, how much does health
- 5:35Speaker 2: mean for the goals that you've set.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's not just this age, but I
- 5:40Speaker 3: mean everyone, you got to stay healthy in this league.
- 5:42Speaker 3: It's eighty two games and it's a marathon on a sprint.
- 5:46Speaker 3: You know, you have to, you know, take care of yourself.
- 5:50Speaker 3: It just doesn't mean you don't want to get hurt.
- 5:51Speaker 3: This is a physical game. Stuff's going to happen. I
- 5:53Speaker 3: think it's more about taking care of yourself and your
- 5:55Speaker 3: off days. Make sure your body's and peak condition and
- 5:58Speaker 3: pliable so that when you do get bent around a
- 6:00Speaker 3: little bit, you're you're able to sustain that stuff. So
- 6:04Speaker 3: I've always incorporated in my training, you know, I think
- 6:08Speaker 3: I've I've done a good job up to this point,
- 6:10Speaker 3: other than last year of you know, really staying healthy
- 6:13Speaker 3: and hope to continue that.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Finally, you were a part of the Third Jersey when
- 6:17Speaker 2: this came out, and you were also in fact, one
- 6:20Speaker 2: of the first to also model this. What's your favorite
- 6:22Speaker 2: part about that Third Jersey.
- 6:24Speaker 3: I mean, it's got a lot of unique parts. I think, obviously,
- 6:26Speaker 3: throw it under black light. I think the big hit
- 6:28Speaker 3: is probably that it glows a bit. But I mean
- 6:30Speaker 3: it's just it's different than what we've worn. I like how,
- 6:34Speaker 3: you know the darkness of the black I think it
- 6:36Speaker 3: makes us look a little bigger, and uh, you know, hopefully,
- 6:39Speaker 3: uh you know, we I mean ultimately just comes down
- 6:41Speaker 3: to the record, and that hopefully it's good.
- 6:43Speaker 2: So the rules apply. Look good, feel good, play.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Good right for sure?
- 6:46Speaker 2: All right, Jordan, appreciate you, Thank you very much.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Thanks for having me.
- 6:49Speaker 1: You're home for the Sports Radio ninety three point three
