- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, back here at the Labor Press High Speed
- 0:02Speaker 1: Rail Network conference. I'm Alex Garrett with the Secretary Treasure
- 0:06Speaker 1: of the anfl CIO, Fred Remond.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Thanks for joining me today.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Friend, Thank you.
- 0:10Speaker 3: Alex is glad to be here.
- 0:11Speaker 2: You had a fired up speech in there.
- 0:13Speaker 1: What is the a file CIO's role going to be
- 0:16Speaker 1: should this high speed rail come into existence?
- 0:18Speaker 2: How are you can help people get jobs to that?
- 0:20Speaker 3: Well, first of all, well had a fired up revised
- 0:23Speaker 3: because we're fired up as a labor boat bit to
- 0:26Speaker 3: see an investment being placed in American workers, because this
- 0:30Speaker 3: is what this is. This is an investment in the
- 0:33Speaker 3: American work for us. This is a challenge to American manufacturers. Okay,
- 0:41Speaker 3: where we can build out this high speed rail, create
- 0:45Speaker 3: good jobs, uplift and sustained communities. And it's an exciting
- 0:50Speaker 3: time to be really committed to a new form of
- 0:54Speaker 3: transportation that's going to take off in the United States.
- 0:59Speaker 1: And what could I guess even Congress's role we had
- 1:02Speaker 1: Thomswazer today, what could Congress's role?
- 1:03Speaker 2: What could the administration's role be to make this happen?
- 1:06Speaker 3: Funding? They have to be committed, they have to provide
- 1:09Speaker 3: the funding they have to provide the resources for us
- 1:14Speaker 3: to do the job. Training, workforce development programs need to
- 1:18Speaker 3: be engaged. So the federal government play a huge role.
- 1:22Speaker 3: Because a commitment from the federal government in terms of
- 1:25Speaker 3: resources and a commitment from employers throughout this country, we
- 1:30Speaker 3: can actually build a manufacturing chain regarding the component parts
- 1:35Speaker 3: the high speed rail. We could train communities and as
- 1:38Speaker 3: I stated, you know, we need to bring in people
- 1:41Speaker 3: who've historically been locked out, people of color, underserved communities,
- 1:45Speaker 3: and women, and we have an opportunity to build a
- 1:49Speaker 3: transportation sector that can uplift communities, uplift families, and help
- 1:55Speaker 3: rebuild the middle class.
- 1:56Speaker 1: All right, so, righty, where does conference to say what's
- 1:58Speaker 1: the next steps?
- 1:59Speaker 3: Next is to make sure that we get through November
- 2:04Speaker 3: with the right team in office that's going to fulfill
- 2:08Speaker 3: this commitment when it comes to funding, when it comes
- 2:11Speaker 3: to making sure that these projects continue, that the commitment
- 2:16Speaker 3: of the Bidy Harris administration continues with the funding and
- 2:21Speaker 3: able to make these sort of projects possible. And then
- 2:25Speaker 3: from there, it's just gonna take the wheel of creating
- 2:28Speaker 3: a big table, a big tent where everybody is coming
- 2:31Speaker 3: together in order to really really move this technology to
- 2:34Speaker 3: the next life.
- 2:35Speaker 1: So those I'm familiar with the AFLCIO talking about the
- 2:37Speaker 1: day to days, we're talking long term as well, talking
- 2:38Speaker 1: about day to day responsibilities.
- 2:40Speaker 3: The afl CIO is a labor federation. We have sixty
- 2:43Speaker 3: affiliate unions. We represent twelve and a half million members
- 2:48Speaker 3: around the United States. Every industry in the United States,
- 2:51Speaker 3: public sector, private sector, service employees, we represent screen actors,
- 2:59Speaker 3: we represent fleets, and we are Americans Workforce. We're based
- 3:03Speaker 3: in Washington, DC. Our members work at all fifty states.
- 3:07Speaker 3: We have a state fed and fifty states around this country.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Four hundred and thirty four central Labor consuls around the country.
- 3:15Speaker 3: And we are the voyage for Americans workers.
- 3:17Speaker 1: And one more thing to those are thing today, what's
- 3:19Speaker 1: your message on behalf of the unions?
- 3:21Speaker 2: Like what to the averages, earday? What's your message to that.
- 3:23Speaker 3: We can do this work. We can do the work
- 3:26Speaker 3: if you with the proper funding, with the proper resources,
- 3:29Speaker 3: with the proper commitment. American unions are prepared to train
- 3:34Speaker 3: the next generation of workers, starting off with high speed
- 3:38Speaker 3: rail and where it takes us who knows right, We're ready.
- 3:42Speaker 3: We got the best training capabilities of the world. Our
- 3:46Speaker 3: training programs, apprenticeship programs is the gold standard and we're
- 3:50Speaker 3: ready to take these huge investments and build the next
- 3:54Speaker 3: generation of workers.
- 3:56Speaker 1: AFO CIO Secretary Tursurer Fred Remand thanks for joining me today.
- 4:00Speaker 3: Thank man, I appreciate it.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Thank you brother.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Okay, thank y'all. Okay,
