- 0:01Speaker 1: Just quickly. Bobby Short, who sang that and he also
- 0:04wrote it, was considered the most just the best interpreter
- 0:11of Cole Porter songs in the world at the time.
- 0:15And he performed every weekend, I believe, Saturdays and Sundays
- 0:19or Fridays and Saturdays at the Cafe Carlisle in New
- 0:22York City on the Upper East Side. And I had
- 0:25the opportunity to go see Bobby Short performed. There was
- 0:28this friend of mine in town, and he had this
- 0:32rich woman with him who was his father's girlfriend. And
- 0:35she was very wealthy. She was an heiress to the
- 0:38Tribune fortune as a matter of fact, as Salt Lake
- 0:40Tribune fortune at any rate. Two nights in a row
- 0:44we went and sat and watched Bobby Short because she
- 0:46loved him perform at the Cafe Carlisle, drinking expensive champagne
- 0:52and watching and it was terrific. It was just And
- 0:55then she called Bobby Short over to the table the
- 0:58second night and said, could we give you a ride
- 1:00home in my limousine.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Well, yes, yes you may.
- 1:03Speaker 1: And I got to ride home with Bobby Short and
- 1:06in the backseat of a living limousine to his place.
- 1:09And then then they dropped me off at my dumpy
- 1:12place down in the no I live down in midtown
- 1:15in a place with roaches, but it was That's really
- 1:20a great memory of mine is meeting Bobby Short and
- 1:23he was very nice and he was just a terrific
- 1:25performer as well.
- 1:26Speaker 3: The question is is did he when he performed, did
- 1:29he do the jingle?
- 1:30Speaker 1: No?
- 1:31Speaker 2: Oh, he should have.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Don't. You might know me from this, you know.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I don't remember. You know, he might have. But I
- 1:38mean people who were there, they were to hear there
- 1:40to hear Cole Porter, mostly Cole Porter songs.
- 1:43Speaker 2: And I wanted to be Charlie.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Those are you know, those are actually really good commercially.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Everybody seemed to like Charlie.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Well, the thing about that ad is that it makes
- 1:52me curious about this person, Charlie. Not the fragrance. I
- 1:56could care less this this person Charlie. Why is everyone so?
- 2:00Speaker 1: But because she's got smell, She's got that something and
- 2:04maybe if you smell like her, you'll have It's kind
- 2:07of wow, kind of now, kind of wild, I don't know, jolly,
- 2:12but they're.
- 2:13Speaker 2: She wears pants, pants, She's a pants girl.
- 2:16Speaker 4: Very effective commercial and none of those ads are their dresses.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Now, the one Little Richard did, the Charlie commercial that
- 2:22Little Richard did, they wear dresses tight, tight, tight.
- 2:27Speaker 2: But Cindy Crawford they call it Cindy. They changed it.
- 2:32Speaker 3: It's not the same, but that is frightening.
- 2:36Speaker 1: And there, yeah it is. It's kind of scary looking,
- 2:38isn't it. And then there's one there is one where
- 2:41they did a male version Chaz and they there's a
- 2:45commercial where I think it's Shelley Hack and some guy there.
- 2:50They were walking on opposite sides of a building and
- 2:52they come around the corner.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Do they run into each other with peanut butter and chocolate?
- 2:56Speaker 1: Yeah, except they're each holding a different their own fragrance.
- 2:59You know.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Oh it's you let me, let me find the Chaz.
- 3:04Speaker 1: We're meant to be with each other forever and ever
- 3:07because we smell alike. It's uh. But I just thought,
- 3:12always thought those were very effective commercials. The Meltswore may
- 3:15one is really good, and I don't know, I think
- 3:18that's also.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Show Selik was Chazz Really?
- 3:22Speaker 1: Yes, I didn't notice that. I just watched that commercially.
- 3:25Speaker 3: That's a safeguard de odorant.
- 3:27Speaker 2: I'm watching it. Revlon Chaz featuring Tom Sellick.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Really yeah, because I can't find it.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Yeah, there's do you want me to send it?
- 3:37Speaker 3: There's Tom Selleck in a right Guard commercial.
- 3:39Speaker 2: No, no, here it is. I mean, how do we
- 3:42get this to you?
- 3:44Speaker 3: M Twitter?
- 3:45Speaker 2: Well it's not. I didn't find it on Twitter, so
- 3:47I email it to email it then.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Uh. But really good commercials. And the Maltwore may one
- 3:54is great. And and I don't think they make Charlie anymore.
- 3:57Speaker 3: They don't, So.
- 4:00Speaker 2: How can I be Charlie if I can't smell like
- 4:02Charlie anymore?
- 4:04Speaker 1: Gina, the cologne would not have helped. No, No, you
- 4:06still wouldn't have been I can't be kind of wow,
- 4:09kind of now, kind of wild. No, you could just
- 4:12walk by, just walk into a restaurant. I just step
- 4:16out of your Bentley.
- 4:18Speaker 3: What is this freedom?
- 4:21Speaker 5: It's a great feeling to do what you want to do,
- 4:24be what you want to be. Jazz, the Jazz have
- 4:28to Shave and Cologne for Men is dedicated to that
- 4:31feeling of freedom.

- 4:58guy with and there was a slight jingle with it too,
- 5:01that like this Chad Charlie jingle.

- 5:13Speaker 3: No, no no, I guess he's not getting dirty and everything.
- 5:16I left that behind, Gina. I was raised on a farm.
- 5:20Speaker 2: It's not sexy. You were raised.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Now. They didn't have Tom Sellick voicing that, because it
- 5:24would have been because well, he really wanted if you
- 5:29want to be a real man like.
