- 0:49Speaker 2: It's showtime, folks.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Enjoy the show.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:25Speaker 5: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:26Speaker 6: I'm Brian.
- 1:27Speaker 2: This is David.
- 1:28Speaker 1: And we're coming to you live.
- 1:34Speaker 4: Via digital recording from Gallery K, who is.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Very nicely giving us this we have our own private
- 1:58Speaker 1: gallery case studio here it's uh it's very nice in
- 2:01Speaker 1: here like i said my first time here i'm liking
- 2:03Speaker 1: what i'm seeing i need to come here and walk
- 2:05Speaker 1: around more.
- 2:06Speaker 7: There yeah they do a lot of cool stuff they've
- 2:08Speaker 7: got uh bands playing several nights a week now they
- 2:11Speaker 7: do life drawing which i was doing for a while and.
- 2:14Speaker 1: I've gotten sidetracked.
- 2:15Speaker 7: Doing this on the same day so i want to
- 2:18Speaker 7: get back into that because they're really cool class going
- 2:20Speaker 7: on so yeah it's A lot of different activities going on.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Will's done a good job with it here. It's a
- 2:26Speaker 1: great neighborhood still. I miss it. I keep flip-flopping, living
- 2:29Speaker 1: on both sides of the river here. I always find
- 2:32Speaker 1: in my happiness levels a notch or two down when
- 2:34Speaker 1: I'm on the Indiana side. I prefer to be over
- 2:35Speaker 1: here in the Highlands area. That's the evil side. That's
- 2:38Speaker 1: what everybody in this town says. Everyone on the Indiana
- 2:43Speaker 1: side thinks there's like, you know, you walk down the
- 2:45Speaker 1: street here, you're going to get shot. Act like it's Chicago. Yeah.
- 2:48Speaker 1: It's not Chicago. I mean, I, yeah. More likely to
- 2:51Speaker 1: run over by a horse than shot. Sadly, I have also, like,
- 2:55Speaker 1: moved to that side at one point in my life.
- 2:57Speaker 7: And, like, yeah, the guy I was getting the place from,
- 3:00Speaker 7: that's why he and his family lived there, was the.
- 3:05Speaker 1: He was referencing all the shootings going on.
- 3:07Speaker 7: I'm like, well, great, I guess there's less over here.
- 3:10Speaker 1: But still, I was just like, yeah.
- 3:13Speaker 7: It's weird we have such a big divide in the
- 3:15Speaker 7: middle of what is essentially the same area.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Right.
- 3:18Speaker 1: We threw a river down the middle of it. I
- 3:19Speaker 1: think you find that in every city, though. There's that
- 3:21Speaker 1: east side, west side, north side, south side. You know,
- 3:24Speaker 1: there's always a side. One side's good, one side's bad.
- 3:26Speaker 7: It's worse when you're bordering another state because then you
- 3:28Speaker 7: have another reason to be like.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Screw you guys.
- 3:33Speaker 7: So, whatever state you're in, Gallery K, they're awesome.
- 3:37Speaker 1: So come check them out. So, yeah, we've made the
- 3:41Speaker 1: threat to come back and do this episode.
- 3:43Speaker 7: But before we get, you know, knee deep in our
- 3:46Speaker 7: comic book geekery, I thought this time we would Ease.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Our way in. Have you seen anything other than our
- 3:53Speaker 1: movie of the week? In theaters? No. How about in
- 3:58Speaker 1: the home theater? I do watch the Flash TV series.
- 4:04Speaker 1: That season just came to an end.
- 4:05Speaker 8: I watched that.
- 4:05Speaker 1: It was fun. They hinted at a lot of things
- 4:08Speaker 1: that I'm very excited about. They didn't commit. To Kid
- 4:11Speaker 1: Flash or Jesse Quick. We kind of know it's going
- 4:13Speaker 1: to happen.
- 4:14Speaker 7: They already made it happen, but it's like even the
- 4:18Speaker 7: people involved don't know it.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Everybody except the audience is the only one that knows
- 4:22Speaker 1: it's coming. And it was done so, I don't want
- 4:24Speaker 1: to say subtle, subtle, but I think Kid Flash and
- 4:27Speaker 1: Jesse Quick are not mainstream characters by any means. I
- 4:30Speaker 1: think if you've read a comic, you definitely know who
- 4:32Speaker 1: Kid Flash is. But I think if you were to
- 4:33Speaker 1: just grab someone on the street and be like, You know,
- 4:36Speaker 1: your average Joe. I think they will have heard of Flash,
- 4:38Speaker 1: but I don't think they will have heard of Kid Flash.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I think every other... That's one of the things about
- 4:42Speaker 1: Flash is, like, he exists in the bigger DC universe, but, like...
- 4:47Speaker 1: He's their Spider-Man. He's so separate. In my mentality, he's
- 4:49Speaker 1: always been their Spider-Man. He's always... Not literally, but in the...
- 4:54Speaker 1: He's lighter. He's a bit more fun.
- 4:56Speaker 2: His.
- 4:58Speaker 1: whatever drama is going on with him, it's not usually
- 5:00Speaker 1: like a global catastrophe. Like, Batman and Superman tend to
- 5:03Speaker 1: deal with things that might wreck the world. You know,
- 5:06Speaker 1: Flash is like, oh, man, you know, Star City. You know, yeah,
- 5:10Speaker 1: it's like, you know, it's much lighter. And he's more
- 5:13Speaker 1: fun because he's one of those people that, he doesn't
- 5:15Speaker 1: have a secret identity.
- 5:17Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 5:17Speaker 1: So, like, within the comic, they celebrate him. They know
- 5:21Speaker 1: he's Flash. And, you know, and it's just much lighter. But,
- 5:24Speaker 1: I will say, man, comics right now, in general... To
- 5:28Speaker 1: broaden this, they're fucking being ballsy right now. Between Captain
- 5:36Speaker 1: America going Hydra, between DC blaming the new 52 essentially
- 5:42Speaker 1: on the Watchmen in Manhattan. And the Flash doing hinting,
- 5:46Speaker 1: they can't do it. But the fact that that finale ended,
- 5:49Speaker 1: like they're going to do Flashpoint, which they can't. You
- 5:52Speaker 1: don't have the justice. You can't have that global thing
- 5:56Speaker 1: that happens. So the fact that they hint at Flashpoint,
- 5:59Speaker 1: I'm sure it'll be a different kind of Flashpoint.
- 6:01Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 6:02Speaker 1: But that they were ballsy enough to go with that
- 6:03Speaker 1: at the end of season two. I'm like, oh my gosh,
- 6:05Speaker 1: you guys, who knows? You could have waited a year
- 6:08Speaker 1: or two. And maybe cameoed some other people. That's the
- 6:11Speaker 1: thing about this series. That's the thing about this Flash series.
- 6:15Speaker 1: They've gotten so much in. You've got to say CW.
- 6:19Speaker 1: You've just got to pull it all in now. That
- 6:20Speaker 1: first season, I was just like, I got to the
- 6:24Speaker 1: end and I was like, wait, has this only been
- 6:25Speaker 1: on one season? Because they crammed so much stuff in
- 6:28Speaker 1: that first season of dealing with all the side stories
- 6:32Speaker 1: plus the big reverse flash and bringing in a secret identity.
- 6:37Speaker 1: And then, well, we didn't even get to Zoom. So
- 6:39Speaker 1: then like season two, it's like, okay, now we've got
- 6:41Speaker 1: this whole new other flash, other second character. Well, in
- 6:45Speaker 1: the finale, hinted at Black Flash. Because when that flash
- 6:48Speaker 1: was burning up in that image, like that's how Black
- 6:52Speaker 1: Flash looks. And I was like, so we... essentially started
- 6:56Speaker 1: flashpoint showed you black flash showed you that kid flash
- 7:00Speaker 1: and jesse quick are coming i mean they're just so
- 7:02Speaker 1: ballsy i love it don't get me wrong i'm excited
- 7:04Speaker 1: that like they're eager to put that much actual continuity
- 7:08Speaker 1: into things but at the same time i'm afraid they're
- 7:11Speaker 1: gonna do that batman forever thing it's like don't get
- 7:14Speaker 1: here was kind of part of my theory on flashpoint
- 7:16Speaker 1: though is that if because you can't have all the
- 7:19Speaker 1: characters of the justice league playing their parts The fact
- 7:21Speaker 1: that now you do have Supergirl. She could double for
- 7:25Speaker 1: Superman's part.
- 7:26Speaker 7: Totally suck her in to CW now, or ABC dumped her, whichever.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I'm glad for CW. I like that they're kind of like,
- 7:34Speaker 1: fuck you, movie universe. You don't want to incorporate us?
- 7:36Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 7:37Speaker 1: We're going to hold the monopoly on the TV land.
- 7:39Speaker 1: We're going to scoop up.
- 7:40Speaker 7: In general, even outside of the superhero world, one of
- 7:44Speaker 7: my favorite, again, I barely watch any regular shows anymore.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Every week, fucking iZombie. Like, I love iZombie.
- 7:52Speaker 7: And I'm like, they took a genre that I was
- 7:56Speaker 7: kind of bored with. Granted, they took it from an
- 7:58Speaker 7: interesting comic anyway, but like, he retooled all that shit.
- 8:03Speaker 1: And like, It works so much better than I would
- 8:06Speaker 1: have ever expected. And again, most networks would have not
- 8:10Speaker 1: done that. CW was like, all right, let's go. So
- 8:13Speaker 1: like that back-to-back flash in iZombie is like one of
- 8:16Speaker 1: the best nights of television you're going to find in
- 8:18Speaker 1: my mind. CW stands for comic world or something now.
- 8:20Speaker 1: I swear, like, you know, they're finding all this success
- 8:24Speaker 1: with things that iZombie could easily be a comic. easily
- 8:27Speaker 1: well it obviously did oh was it a comic yeah
- 8:29Speaker 1: it was it.
- 8:30Speaker 7: Was a comic yeah oh well there you go they
- 8:31Speaker 7: still work it in because the like the intro is
- 8:34Speaker 7: done in comic style when they come back from commercial
- 8:36Speaker 7: they do like the little title like will pop up
- 8:39Speaker 7: like it's coming back in the way manner kind of
- 8:41Speaker 7: like yeah it's it's they definitely like own up to
- 8:44Speaker 7: the like yeah we're total comic bookie we know it
- 8:46Speaker 7: and again it's it it deals with very dark heavy
- 8:50Speaker 7: subject matter but it's got such a great fun tone
- 8:54Speaker 7: and that's all due to.
- 8:55Speaker 5: Um Tells his name.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Hold on.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Has he done anything else? Yeah, he's Veronica Mars. That's
- 9:03Speaker 1: why it's so good.
- 9:06Speaker 7: He knows how to balance that between stories that could
- 9:09Speaker 7: get into some dark territory and still loads it up
- 9:14Speaker 7: with a lot of pop culture humor to the point
- 9:18Speaker 7: like if you're watching it, it does feel in the
- 9:20Speaker 7: moment and in the world that you live in, so
- 9:22Speaker 7: it's not quite as cheesy and tv show is it
- 9:26Speaker 7: it's not melodrama like it does at least have real
- 9:29Speaker 7: moments that happen in the real world which is kind
- 9:32Speaker 7: of the same thing they do with flash that like
- 9:34Speaker 7: it's rob thomas there we go yeah it's yeah it's
- 9:37Speaker 7: all rob thomas that does that with iZombie it's why
- 9:41Speaker 7: it's it's so well put together yeah he's he's an
- 9:44Speaker 7: amazing showrunner for two different shows now so.
- 9:47Speaker 1: I'm at the point where i i lightly predict this
- 9:51Speaker 1: i'm not saying i'm i'm I think at this point
- 9:54Speaker 1: we could say there's probably a 30% chance with what
- 9:58Speaker 1: CW is doing. I'm waiting. for the first cw movie
- 10:02Speaker 1: like i'm waiting like the build up your arrow supergirl
- 10:05Speaker 1: flash uh whatever the other one is heroes of the
- 10:07Speaker 1: future whatever i watched most of that i gave that
- 10:10Speaker 1: a shot it It's okay. It's not terrible. That one's
- 10:14Speaker 1: the one to me feels like a cash-in. It's like,
- 10:15Speaker 1: you took the villains from Flash and you gave them
- 10:17Speaker 1: their own show. Like, come on. Basically, it's we want
- 10:20Speaker 1: the Avengers and we want Doctor Who. And we want
- 10:23Speaker 1: Suicide Squad. And we want a little bit of Suicide Squad. Yeah,
- 10:25Speaker 1: because they do work a couple of villains in for
- 10:27Speaker 1: no good reason. Except that guy is kind of cool.
- 10:30Speaker 1: And I think that's why I pardon it. Because they
- 10:33Speaker 1: grabbed the two dudes from Prison Break and they play
- 10:35Speaker 1: these two great villains and you're like, I kind of
- 10:37Speaker 1: want more of those guys, but I don't want to
- 10:38Speaker 1: see Flash fight them every episode. So there's a part
- 10:40Speaker 1: of me that was like, I understand why you're doing it,
- 10:43Speaker 1: and I understand why people watch it. They're very charismatic
- 10:46Speaker 1: as those parts, and oh boy. And they set them up, too,
- 10:49Speaker 1: because all through Flash, it was like every time he'd
- 10:52Speaker 1: have a chance to be a total villain, he'd back off,
- 10:57Speaker 1: especially whatever the Mr. Freeze dude is. It is a
- 10:59Speaker 1: really unique thing, again, about Flash's world, though, is that
- 11:02Speaker 1: his rogues gallery, they, of course, there are times when
- 11:05Speaker 1: they go back and forth on this, but generally speaking,
- 11:08Speaker 1: Flash's villains don't want to kill him.
- 11:10Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 11:11Speaker 1: They sort of share his mentality. They're like, we're thieves.
- 11:14Speaker 1: You know, we want money. We want power. But we're
- 11:16Speaker 1: not murderers. Those two are pretty, yeah, pretty good about that. Yeah,
- 11:18Speaker 1: they're pretty, well, I mean, even in a comic, though. Like,
- 11:21Speaker 1: pretty much, like, they're all like, you know, we're going
- 11:24Speaker 1: to take Flash down. We're going to embarrass him. We're
- 11:26Speaker 1: going to do this and this. But they never necessarily go,
- 11:28Speaker 1: we want to kill him. Like, in their plans, I'm
- 11:30Speaker 1: sure if they got together, they probably could kill him,
- 11:33Speaker 1: especially since you know who he is. But, you know,
- 11:36Speaker 1: that's that line that they kind of walk with Flash,
- 11:38Speaker 1: where it's like, even the bad guys are like, we're
- 11:41Speaker 1: not a completely opposed to killing, but we don't want to.
- 11:45Speaker 7: That's what I was getting. That's what I was thinking
- 11:47Speaker 7: before when you were comparing it to Spider-Man was like,
- 11:49Speaker 7: that's the difference with the flash little sub universe is like,
- 11:54Speaker 7: he doesn't have that rogues gallery.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Of recognizable villains.
- 11:58Speaker 7: Like everybody in Spider-Man's world, like normal person on the
- 12:01Speaker 7: streets probably.
- 12:02Speaker 8: Oh yeah. Dr.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Octopus, the guy with the arms and like, but like,
- 12:05Speaker 1: I didn't know half the ones that they brought in
- 12:07Speaker 1: on flash. I'm like, Oh yeah, that's from the comic.
- 12:09Speaker 1: I guess I need to, check into that because i
- 12:11Speaker 1: barely read any flash comics growing up but like yeah
- 12:15Speaker 1: i feel like they really kind of dig into it
- 12:17Speaker 1: and like he's got good characters but he never really
- 12:19Speaker 1: went like he was super mainstream as a character but
- 12:22Speaker 1: the rest of his universe like i don't think anybody
- 12:24Speaker 1: knows right so yeah i feel like flash is one
- 12:27Speaker 1: of those people it's it's probably very difficult to write
- 12:31Speaker 1: him i mean You know, it's willing to kind of
- 12:34Speaker 1: go what we're about to get into. It's like Angel
- 12:36Speaker 1: from X-Men. They tried so hard to make Angel relevant,
- 12:38Speaker 1: but your powers, you have bird wings, period. There was
- 12:42Speaker 1: no like super strength. There was no other. It's just
- 12:44Speaker 1: you have wings. And it's like, how do you matter
- 12:47Speaker 1: when we have Rogue and Storm and all these people
- 12:49Speaker 1: that can just literally hover up there and fly without
- 12:52Speaker 1: the wings? It's the same angle we get into every
- 12:55Speaker 1: Avengers movie, too. I'm like, really, Hawkeye? I'm like, really?
- 13:00Speaker 1: Bow and arrow. I mean, it's a fancy bow and arrow,
- 13:03Speaker 1: and you're a good shot, but God. Thor's a God.
- 13:07Speaker 1: There's a part of me that makes exceptions sometimes for
- 13:10Speaker 1: villains that can seem flaky like that. And I feel
- 13:13Speaker 1: like this is the argument that most people would make
- 13:15Speaker 1: of Batman, is that it's not so much that he
- 13:19Speaker 1: needed a power that makes him highly accurate, as much
- 13:23Speaker 1: as you're just going, okay, look, man in general, as humans,
- 13:27Speaker 1: as men, we can do some amazing shit. Like you
- 13:29Speaker 1: look at Olympics, you look at like, you know, things
- 13:32Speaker 1: where people spend their lives achieving one ability or skill.
- 13:35Speaker 1: We can do some crazy, awesome shit. And I feel
- 13:38Speaker 1: like again, with Batman and, and you know, Hawkeye and
- 13:41Speaker 1: people like that, you're going, look, what would be possible
- 13:44Speaker 1: for someone that, just shot a bow and arrow his
- 13:47Speaker 1: whole life. He would be able to do some amazing,
- 13:49Speaker 1: amazing stuff. And I'm not saying the movie is accurate. Like,
- 13:52Speaker 1: someone really could do that stuff. But I've seen, there
- 13:54Speaker 1: was a fun video after the first Avengers movie. There was,
- 14:00Speaker 1: don't know the dude's name. A long time ago. It
- 14:02Speaker 1: was on YouTube. Some guy who was like some, that's
- 14:05Speaker 1: what he does. He shoots bows. Some marksman was trying
- 14:09Speaker 1: to emulate hawkeye stuff and he was doing his thing
- 14:12Speaker 1: he learned how to kind of like shoot like three
- 14:14Speaker 1: arrows in like five seconds like really insanely quick and
- 14:17Speaker 1: then it was like he would set up bullseye targets
- 14:20Speaker 1: and like jump off a ledge and like shoot one
- 14:22Speaker 1: in the air i think i remember land roll shoot
- 14:25Speaker 1: twice he was emulating these action shots and he wasn't
- 14:28Speaker 1: bullseyeing but he was hitting the targets and there was
- 14:30Speaker 1: a part of me was like that's kind of where
- 14:32Speaker 1: my mind goes with people like hawkeye it's like yeah
- 14:35Speaker 1: you know imagine man at his best with this talent
- 14:40Speaker 1: and i think that's what you have to say with
- 14:42Speaker 1: batman like a man the perfect detective mixed with like
- 14:45Speaker 1: the perfect hand-to-hand grappler who then can afford to outfit
- 14:50Speaker 1: himself in the perfectly financial situation yeah always always helps
- 14:54Speaker 1: iron man if you have so much money you can
- 14:56Speaker 1: take down everybody else because you're so perfectly suited literally
- 15:01Speaker 1: to like take on exactly and again especially as batman
- 15:04Speaker 1: like continued to mutate the suit every time to fit
- 15:07Speaker 1: whatever villain and like very much like iron man i
- 15:10Speaker 1: mean it has like it's like document like 56 different
- 15:13Speaker 1: iron suits because he has like one for every villain
- 15:16Speaker 1: pretty much person you know which is what we saw
- 15:19Speaker 1: in part two with the hulk buster armor it's like
- 15:21Speaker 1: you know That was part two, right? That was Age
- 15:24Speaker 1: of Ultron, yes.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Not 2.5.
- 15:26Speaker 1: God, I can't wait to watch that again. Iron Man
- 15:30Speaker 1: versus Captain Marvel. No, but yeah, you know, that's one
- 15:34Speaker 1: of those weird things about Angel, where it's like, even
- 15:37Speaker 1: within the comic itself, you know, they tried doing him over.
- 15:41Speaker 1: You know, Apocalypse in the comic was.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Probably the most over he was. They didn't commit to
- 15:48Speaker 1: it in the movie. Because in the comic, he renames
- 15:50Speaker 1: him Archangel. That's what I was trying to decide. His skin,
- 15:54Speaker 1: I think, turns like a blue. He starts wearing this
- 15:56Speaker 1: purple outfit. And he can start shooting the wings like bullets.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Like these metal blades. So in the comic, that finally
- 16:02Speaker 1: made him awesome. To where even when the pocket stuff ended,
- 16:06Speaker 1: they kind of kept him in that form. Like, can
- 16:07Speaker 1: you keep the metal wings, please? Because you're kind of
- 16:09Speaker 1: cool with the metal wings. But yeah, he's one of
- 16:12Speaker 1: those people. It's just tough. Because his power is so
- 16:14Speaker 1: kind of. it seems a little silly in the context
- 16:18Speaker 1: of everyone else around. I was like, okay, yeah, bird wings,
- 16:21Speaker 1: but we got tons of people that can fly without
- 16:23Speaker 1: the wings. So I don't think the bird wings are
- 16:26Speaker 1: near as dorky as that haircut. What is it with Mohawk?
- 16:30Speaker 1: On that note, I think we should, we should officially
- 16:33Speaker 1: get into the movie. So let's, let's take our break
- 16:36Speaker 1: here and come back and start the entire thing.

- 20:23Speaker 8: Endless Apocalypse There wasn't any reason To change the melody
- 20:50Speaker 8: Are you.
- 20:52Speaker 3: A real person Or do you.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Just play one on TV What is your stance on this?
- 21:22Speaker 1: Is it going to be a positive, a negative, kind
- 21:24Speaker 1: of hopping those sides? Let's just roll with it. I
- 21:29Speaker 1: got to the end, and I'm like, I'm not even
- 21:31Speaker 1: 100% sure. I enjoyed it, but then I started thinking, okay,
- 21:36Speaker 1: we're going to talk about this. And I'm like, what
- 21:39Speaker 1: exactly do I have to say? That's why I always
- 21:43Speaker 1: like to have a little time in between to process
- 21:46Speaker 1: and be like, Let it marinate.
- 21:48Speaker 7: What is my feelings on this movie as a whole?
- 21:51Speaker 7: So yeah, we will, I guess, find out as we
- 21:54Speaker 7: go along.
- 21:54Speaker 5: Get more out of life.
- 21:57Speaker 8: Go out to.
- 22:03Speaker 3: A movie.
- 22:10Speaker 9: Things are better.
- 22:12Speaker 2: The world is better.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Just because there's not a war doesn't mean there's peace.
- 22:17Speaker 1: He's coming.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Some call him Apocalypse.
- 22:27Speaker 6: He was some kind of god.
- 22:30Speaker 1: For thousands of years, he's been amassing mutants to take
- 22:33Speaker 1: their powers. He always had four followers.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Like the four horsemen.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Eric, don't join them. Whatever it is you think you
- 22:44Speaker 1: saw in me, I buried it with my family.
- 22:48Speaker 5: Together, we will cleanse the Earth.
- 22:51Speaker 8: Everything they've built will fall!
- 22:56Speaker 1: And from the ashes of their world, we'll build a
- 23:00Speaker 1: better one! I've never felt power like this before.
- 23:07Speaker 8: Charles!
- 23:10Speaker 2: They took him. Raven, the world needs the X-Men.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I'm not a hero. Students will come to you. If
- 23:20Speaker 1: I'm going to teach your kids something, I'm going to
- 23:22Speaker 1: teach them how to fight. Follow me.
- 23:28Speaker 5: I'm not afraid of him.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Magneto, he's my father.
- 23:33Speaker 1: What?
- 23:34Speaker 5: Him and my mom, they did.
- 23:35Speaker 3: No, I know.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Not all of us can control our powers. Then don't.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Apocalypse means to destroy this world. It's all of us
- 23:49Speaker 1: against a god and the most powerful beings on Earth.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Forget everything you think you know. None of that matters.
- 24:12Speaker 1: You're not students anymore. Well, you've been busy.
- 24:32Speaker 5: We had a little help.
- 24:35Speaker 7: So, in this running superhero series, which has picked up
- 24:39Speaker 7: quite a bit in this last year, we once again
- 24:42Speaker 7: went out on the town. So this week's out on
- 24:44Speaker 7: the town feature is X-Men colon Apocalypse. The year is 2016.
- 24:49Speaker 7: The director, Bryan Singer, returns once again. And the plot,
- 24:54Speaker 7: according to IMDb, with the emergence of the world's first mutant, Apocalypse,
- 24:59Speaker 7: The X-Men must unite to defeat his extinction-level plan.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Awkwardly worded, as per usual.
- 25:07Speaker 8: All right.
- 25:07Speaker 1: So, spoiler alert, we're going to ruin this. We're going
- 25:10Speaker 1: to wreck this thing. I'm assuming you're a geek and
- 25:12Speaker 1: you've already seen it. If not, go watch it. There's
- 25:14Speaker 1: not a lot of spoilers in it, though, I would say,
- 25:16Speaker 1: at the same time. I mean, telling you what would
- 25:17Speaker 1: happen is a spoiler, but by no means was there
- 25:20Speaker 1: a twist moment. I don't think anything happened in this
- 25:22Speaker 1: where I was shocked. There are, as a comic book reader,
- 25:25Speaker 1: maybe I was shocked that they... adjustments went for things
- 25:28Speaker 1: yeah but i wouldn't say that like as a plot
- 25:30Speaker 1: it was like an oh my god moment so yeah
- 25:33Speaker 1: spoiler as in you know general you're gonna hear what
- 25:36Speaker 1: happens at the ends and some stuff happened even the
- 25:38Speaker 1: end like i wasn't shocked with any of it right
- 25:40Speaker 1: did you stay up there for the stinger too so
- 25:42Speaker 1: we can talk about that i did i can explain
- 25:44Speaker 1: that to you if you didn't understand.
- 25:46Speaker 7: Well i i yeah i i got the basics of
- 25:49Speaker 7: it in general and then i double checked the ethics
- 25:51Speaker 7: to make sure so right it's like all right man
- 25:53Speaker 7: we're setting up what what we all kind of knew
- 25:55Speaker 7: was coming anyway but Do we want to go right
- 25:58Speaker 7: from the end?
- 25:59Speaker 1: Do we want to address that? Well, I would, I
- 26:02Speaker 1: kind of want to start off by just saying generally, like,
- 26:05Speaker 1: I guess, you know, to give my too long, didn't
- 26:08Speaker 1: read before we even start. Like I, with the, you know, I'm,
- 26:14Speaker 1: I saw it original three back before, you know, back
- 26:17Speaker 1: before comic movies were, I don't even state it. They're
- 26:21Speaker 1: definitely at least financially respected now, but, Respected much more
- 26:25Speaker 1: than at the time of the first three and like
- 26:26Speaker 1: I think like everybody else the first one I was
- 26:29Speaker 1: just excited because they were my god X-Men movie. Yeah,
- 26:32Speaker 1: the second one felt better, you know that whole time
- 26:36Speaker 1: comic Integrity was you know, you know flaky, but you
- 26:39Speaker 1: were so happy to see it on screen. We were
- 26:41Speaker 1: willing third one was So for me when this all
- 26:45Speaker 1: picked back up, going back to first class, in my head,
- 26:48Speaker 1: I had checked out. I was that guy that was
- 26:50Speaker 1: just so just taken aback by that third one. I
- 26:52Speaker 1: was like, I just, I don't trust you. So first
- 26:55Speaker 1: class was a pleasant surprise. I was like, well, that's fun.
- 26:58Speaker 1: You were able to go back to a place where
- 27:00Speaker 1: you didn't have to worry about continuity. And in the
- 27:02Speaker 1: back of my head, I was like, man, it would
- 27:03Speaker 1: be great if this was a big reboot. Well, I
- 27:08Speaker 1: felt like it kind of was, but I thought maybe
- 27:10Speaker 1: it was a reboot all on its own to the
- 27:13Speaker 1: point of like, we the third one burned us so
- 27:16Speaker 1: bad too we agree with you guys we're totally starting
- 27:19Speaker 1: over we're gonna do whatever we want those don't exist
- 27:22Speaker 1: and that's what my point's gonna be that is my
- 27:24Speaker 1: the point i'm leading up to is that you know
- 27:26Speaker 1: in the back of my head i was hoping that
- 27:27Speaker 1: but i'm thinking in the real world there's no way
- 27:29Speaker 1: this is sony right sony or fox who's got.
- 27:31Speaker 7: This sony owns because sony had uh spider-man i think
- 27:35Speaker 7: this is fox yes it's.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Fox x-men apocalypse on foxmovies.com 20th century fox okay I guess,
- 27:44Speaker 1: you know, for me, when I think of X-Men, for me,
- 27:50Speaker 1: my favorite point in X-Men was 90s X-Men. Movies or comic-wise?
- 27:55Speaker 8: Comic.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Which are we talking about?
- 27:56Speaker 1: Well, just in general. You know, you go back to
- 27:59Speaker 1: the cartoon, the Marvel X-Men cartoon with Fox also probably
- 28:03Speaker 1: or whoever. I'm not looking it up again. I think
- 28:06Speaker 1: it also was Fox, yes. Just for me, it was,
- 28:09Speaker 1: you know, Jubilee, Rogue, Gambit. Jean Grey, Cyclops, you know,
- 28:13Speaker 1: just that click, that time. First Class and all that
- 28:17Speaker 1: was good and fun. I respect it for its history.
- 28:19Speaker 1: But for me, when I got into X-Men, what was
- 28:21Speaker 1: exciting to me was when, this is where it's all
- 28:24Speaker 1: going to kind of lead to, was during the Dark
- 28:26Speaker 1: Phoenix stuff. That's when I was getting really enveloped in X-Men.
- 28:30Speaker 1: So when First Class started, or they, you know, they
- 28:33Speaker 1: did First Class, they did Days of Future Past, I
- 28:36Speaker 1: felt like they were fun movies. But in the back
- 28:40Speaker 1: of my head, I was like, man, wouldn't it be great?
- 28:43Speaker 1: Because you have reset the timeline period, especially with the
- 28:45Speaker 1: last one. You finally, that's what I think is really cool.
- 28:49Speaker 1: That's what I'm so excited about. Cause with the way
- 28:51Speaker 1: this movie ends, and this is where I think the
- 28:54Speaker 1: movie will be confusing to people. Cause I felt like
- 28:57Speaker 1: two things were happening with this movie. I felt on one,
- 28:59Speaker 1: we were telling a story of X-Men apocalypse too. I
- 29:03Speaker 1: feel like it's kind of like what you got in
- 29:05Speaker 1: Spider-Man in the civil war movie. But for like a
- 29:08Speaker 1: third in a movie. I feel like the reason this
- 29:10Speaker 1: movie was 2 hours and 45 minutes long. Was it?
- 29:13Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 29:14Speaker 1: I mean. It was long. It didn't seem that.
- 29:17Speaker 6: Again.
- 29:17Speaker 1: If you would have told me that beforehand. I probably
- 29:19Speaker 1: would have been like.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Oh God.
- 29:20Speaker 8: But.
- 29:21Speaker 1: I didn't feel. I do feel like I hit a
- 29:23Speaker 1: good ways in.
- 29:24Speaker 7: And I felt like it wasn't going as. It wasn't
- 29:28Speaker 7: moving as quickly as I assumed it would.
- 29:31Speaker 1: And I was like.
- 29:31Speaker 7: If it just kind of ends here in the next
- 29:34Speaker 7: 20 minutes. Like this movie might not be that great.
- 29:37Speaker 6: Right.
- 29:37Speaker 1: So, I can I can come back to that, but yeah, I,
- 29:40Speaker 1: I didn't feel like it was overly long, but okay.
- 29:43Speaker 1: So what was your, I just feel like this was,
- 29:45Speaker 1: you know, I feel like maybe, you know, what I
- 29:48Speaker 1: was optimistic about is actually coming to fruition here. I
- 29:51Speaker 1: feel like singer, when singer did first class, not to
- 29:54Speaker 1: make this a history lesson still, but when singer did
- 29:56Speaker 1: first class, although he didn't direct first class, What did
- 30:00Speaker 1: he do on it then? He wrote it or something, right?
- 30:02Speaker 1: They brought him back in. He might be producer. Okay. Well,
- 30:06Speaker 1: it was about a quote then anyway. It was what
- 30:08Speaker 1: he was saying about it. I think he was back
- 30:09Speaker 1: to being involved at least. He said that, you know,
- 30:11Speaker 1: because there was so much backlash after the third one
- 30:14Speaker 1: that he even said, he was like, you know, I
- 30:17Speaker 1: have a tough thing to do here because I agree.
- 30:20Speaker 1: He was like, I kind of agree. We didn't wrap
- 30:22Speaker 1: that up well. He hated the third one. He's like,
- 30:25Speaker 1: and I have the chance here to start over, but
- 30:29Speaker 1: He's like, I don't want to poop on the other ones.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Especially the ones he made. So he kind of, again,
- 30:35Speaker 1: me being optimistic, I was like, well, maybe that's his
- 30:37Speaker 1: way of saying he's got a lot of real tricky
- 30:42Speaker 1: threading of the needle to do here. He's got a
- 30:44Speaker 1: lot of weird loose ends to tie. But I feel
- 30:47Speaker 1: like that's what this third movie did. It was a
- 30:49Speaker 1: way to go, look, let's wrap up the old stuff
- 30:52Speaker 1: I did. Seal that up. It's done. It's gone. But
- 30:57Speaker 1: the next movie, the next movie, it's almost like these
- 31:00Speaker 1: three movies were their origin story. Because with the way
- 31:04Speaker 1: this movie ends, you have that young X-Men 90s squad
- 31:10Speaker 1: with an outright blatant, it's not even a hint, like
- 31:15Speaker 1: showing you that Dark Phoenix stuff is going to happen.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Showing you that Mr. Sinister stuff is going to happen.
- 31:21Speaker 1: And with the way it ended, like, that last shot
- 31:24Speaker 1: in the danger room where you have the cast there,
- 31:26Speaker 1: you have Professor X, you have Magneto, and that friend-foe
- 31:30Speaker 1: status still, like, this is exactly the way it should
- 31:36Speaker 1: be to do X-Men 90 Squad. Like, now, and to
- 31:41Speaker 1: take it even further, you know, like, you have a
- 31:43Speaker 1: cameo with Wolverine, a huge scene with Hugh Jackman. That
- 31:47Speaker 1: whole thing felt to me like their Spider-Man sequence.
- 31:49Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Yeah, pretty much. It's just setting up. Because they could
- 31:52Speaker 1: have went anywhere. You know, a catastrophe happens at the school.
- 31:56Speaker 1: They escape. And the way it's done is like when
- 31:59Speaker 1: they escape, they go to this place for 15 minutes
- 32:01Speaker 1: and then come back to the core story. That didn't
- 32:03Speaker 1: have to happen at all. I'm not saying I was
- 32:05Speaker 1: offended by it at all.
- 32:07Speaker 7: It was definitely fun for the people who know. Even
- 32:11Speaker 7: if you're just like a movie fan level person. Like
- 32:13Speaker 7: you're like, well, we know. That's something they almost over tread.
- 32:18Speaker 7: in these series is the Wolverine backstory and recreating it
- 32:22Speaker 7: and redoing it.
- 32:23Speaker 1: And I'm like, this is a little segment we didn't
- 32:26Speaker 1: really see. It was really short and we got to
- 32:28Speaker 1: see him go berserk, which is really all I like
- 32:31Speaker 1: is just watching him just plow through people like that.
- 32:34Speaker 1: That's really all we wanted because we knew he wasn't
- 32:36Speaker 1: going to be the lead because he doesn't want to
- 32:39Speaker 1: do a ton more anyway. So I was like, it's nice.
- 32:41Speaker 1: It's nice that he plays along. Like, every movie he
- 32:43Speaker 1: shows up, even if he's just to tell you to
- 32:45Speaker 1: fuck off, he shows up. So it's like, it's nice
- 32:48Speaker 1: that he's like, you know, you guys made me. Like,
- 32:50Speaker 1: I wouldn't be anybody, really.
- 32:52Speaker 8: Right.
- 32:52Speaker 1: I remember when they cast that first movie, I went, who? Like,
- 32:55Speaker 1: Wolverine's like the biggest dude in comics. Why would you
- 32:58Speaker 1: pick a nobody? We were all... The movie came out,
- 33:01Speaker 1: I was like, no, you're right. That dude knows what
- 33:03Speaker 1: he's doing. So I was like... I was one of
- 33:05Speaker 1: those people going, who the hell is this nobody that
- 33:08Speaker 1: they cast? So he does, you know, owe them a
- 33:10Speaker 1: favor because he's the.
- 33:12Speaker 7: Reason he stars in Les Mis and does the song
- 33:15Speaker 7: and dance movies that he really wants to do. But yeah,
- 33:20Speaker 7: I think it is kind of cool that he does
- 33:21Speaker 7: play along and he keeps coming back and is probably
- 33:24Speaker 7: going to cash another major check on another movie.
- 33:27Speaker 1: I'm sure of it. he's not, I don't, I mean,
- 33:29Speaker 1: he made it clear he doesn't want to do any
- 33:30Speaker 1: more movies, but I will be shocked if he doesn't
- 33:33Speaker 1: cameo in every other movie going on. Cause I feel like, again,
- 33:36Speaker 1: you know, I felt like this was that Spider-Man moment
- 33:39Speaker 1: in the sense that I think it achieved two things. One,
- 33:41Speaker 1: I think it reminded you that Wolverine has one more
- 33:45Speaker 1: movie still, and that it's going to be R rated.
- 33:47Speaker 1: I think the fact that they chose this scene was
- 33:50Speaker 1: kind of ingenious. Cause like, here's a moment where he
- 33:52Speaker 1: was just, he was just, like he just he was
- 33:56Speaker 1: just an animal he was yeah he kills all these
- 34:00Speaker 1: people and while it wasn't in your face visceral it
- 34:04Speaker 1: it kind of tiptoed that line of like showing him
- 34:07Speaker 1: doing motions that you know were disgusting because you always
- 34:10Speaker 1: get and you did to get this you always get
- 34:12Speaker 1: that that stab where it's just his fist up against
- 34:14Speaker 1: someone's chest or you can't see the blades at all
- 34:17Speaker 1: you know not the but this was there was a
- 34:19Speaker 1: lot of swiping motions this time that put blood on
- 34:22Speaker 1: the walls you didn't see him cut But it put
- 34:24Speaker 1: bloods on the walls. And that's because the third Wolverine
- 34:27Speaker 1: movie is going to be R-rated. I think that's a
- 34:28Speaker 1: way of going, look, you're going to get a whole
- 34:30Speaker 1: new Wolverine this time. We're going all in on the
- 34:33Speaker 1: gore because that's how he is in the comic. Well,
- 34:38Speaker 1: I thought that for this movie, for a PG-13 movie,
- 34:41Speaker 1: there's a lot of death.
- 34:43Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 34:43Speaker 1: They off a lot of people. And they didn't undo
- 34:46Speaker 1: it at the end.
- 34:46Speaker 8: No.
- 34:47Speaker 1: They were just like all those guys. Millions and millions
- 34:51Speaker 1: and millions of people are dead and they stayed dead. Well,
- 34:55Speaker 1: I was.
- 34:55Speaker 7: Just like even in the scenes we see like in
- 34:57Speaker 7: the beginning where I'm trying to think which like first off.
- 35:01Speaker 1: It started off with Apocalypse's history. Well, I mean, they
- 35:04Speaker 1: kill people there. But then like when you have Apocalypse
- 35:07Speaker 1: just like drop in that room full of guys. Out
- 35:10Speaker 1: of nowhere. They didn't do anything. One of them narked
- 35:12Speaker 1: on him. But other than that, it was like nothing
- 35:14Speaker 1: like those guys were totally innocent. Just like dead. So
- 35:18Speaker 1: I'm like, all right. Granted, it's not violent death, but
- 35:21Speaker 1: we just saw a lot of people get killed. Then
- 35:24Speaker 1: there's the soldier scene with Wolverine. There's like two or
- 35:27Speaker 1: three other times where we just see people get laid out. No,
- 35:29Speaker 1: there's plenty of times where the room got cleared. Yeah.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Magneto cleared a room. Yeah. Wolverine cleared a room. Apocalypse cleared. Yeah,
- 35:35Speaker 1: that's what I was thinking. The necklace. That was the
- 35:37Speaker 1: first one I was thinking. Him just like slicing that
- 35:41Speaker 1: whole group of dudes. The moment the necklace was in
- 35:44Speaker 1: his hand, I even whispered to his wife. I was like,
- 35:47Speaker 1: they're all dead. I was like, here it goes. He's
- 35:49Speaker 1: about to do the quarter with the necklace. That's going through. Yeah,
- 35:51Speaker 1: I was just thinking, that's going through everybody behind him.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Everyone out with that one little necklace. And how poetic
- 35:56Speaker 1: and metaphoric was that whole, that was beautiful. That's, you know,
- 36:00Speaker 1: we're going to be all over the place. I'm already
- 36:02Speaker 1: jumping out. As far as acting goes, Fassbender. I love
- 36:05Speaker 1: this dude as Magneto. I love him. He's just an
- 36:08Speaker 1: amazing actor. He really is. To McKellen and Stewart, obviously,
- 36:11Speaker 1: but Fassbender, he, above and beyond, I love the dude
- 36:15Speaker 1: that does Professor X2.
- 36:16Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 36:18Speaker 1: But Fassbender, like, if we're just talking acting, he is
- 36:22Speaker 1: throwing pearls to the swine with Magneto. Like, I love
- 36:25Speaker 1: him for it, but he's, like, making everyone, he's showing
- 36:28Speaker 1: you just how much everyone else is underacting or is
- 36:31Speaker 1: just not at his level. Like, that scene where he
- 36:34Speaker 1: went back to the steel mill after that traumatic scene
- 36:37Speaker 1: with the family, and you're just like, God, you guys
- 36:40Speaker 1: are all.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Going to die.
- 36:41Speaker 1: But just his face, the whole, you know, I'm not,
- 36:43Speaker 1: whatever his name, I'm not James, I'm Magneto, and just, he's,
- 36:47Speaker 1: his expressions are so great he does such a good
- 36:49Speaker 1: job of doing what i what i felt from magneto
- 36:53Speaker 1: in a comic of that xavier is right he is
- 36:57Speaker 1: he was born a good person there's just been so
- 37:00Speaker 1: much trauma in his life he's just he he's just
- 37:03Speaker 1: overcome with rage and he needs people like xavier to
- 37:06Speaker 1: keep him grounded or he's gonna go off on the
- 37:09Speaker 1: loose end and be magneto.
- 37:10Speaker 7: That's since we've already we've we've gone into magneto here's
- 37:15Speaker 7: my main magneto point and i probably would make it
- 37:17Speaker 7: every movie as we do this um how many times
- 37:21Speaker 7: though can he turn on them like he will change
- 37:25Speaker 7: sides usually averages about three times a move like if
- 37:30Speaker 7: he starts out good he'll go bad and then come
- 37:32Speaker 7: back to good or like the middle time around he's
- 37:35Speaker 7: bad they bring him back to.
- 37:36Speaker 1: Good then he's bad again i'm like he does it
- 37:40Speaker 1: in the comics if it were one movie I could
- 37:41Speaker 1: let it slide but it's three now and each time
- 37:44Speaker 1: I'm like how many times is he gonna screw you
- 37:46Speaker 1: guys over that you're gonna bring him back I know
- 37:48Speaker 1: that's kind of Xavier's thing they were friends like it
- 37:51Speaker 1: does make sense but I'm just like in what other
- 37:53Speaker 1: comic movie is like all of a sudden you know
- 37:56Speaker 1: Loki he's like X-Men's Loki Loki's not even a villain
- 38:00Speaker 1: though at least again I'm just basing on the movies
- 38:03Speaker 1: trust me on the movies they're gonna hammer him home
- 38:05Speaker 1: as a villain I mean at the end of the
- 38:07Speaker 1: last Thor movie people don't I shouldn't say people don't remember,
- 38:11Speaker 1: but it didn't do as well, and I don't feel
- 38:13Speaker 1: people hear people talk about it. I was like, Loki
- 38:15Speaker 1: won at the end of that Thor movie. He is
- 38:17Speaker 1: ruling Asgard right now. People forget that that end scene,
- 38:20Speaker 1: him in the throne with the spear, he successfully is
- 38:23Speaker 1: acting as Odin.
- 38:24Speaker 8: Remember?
- 38:24Speaker 1: He's just too... He is a bad guy. On the
- 38:28Speaker 1: one hand, he's too likable. Because Tom Hiddleston's fault. I know.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Because in the comic, he is slimy. Fangirls love him
- 38:34Speaker 1: so much. he's weasley i'm gonna say whatever it takes
- 38:37Speaker 1: get out this kind of guy tom hiddleston is just
- 38:40Speaker 1: the whole cast has done this he's changed the core
- 38:44Speaker 1: person that he is because tom hiddleston is just too
- 38:47Speaker 1: likable and he delivers those lines so well with such
- 38:49Speaker 1: snark that you just you can't not like him the
- 38:52Speaker 1: rest of them though like like i said before with
- 38:55Speaker 1: like chris evans He turned that character for me. His
- 38:58Speaker 1: charisma made it make sense. It made everything work that
- 39:03Speaker 1: I didn't care about before. Loki kind of went the
- 39:06Speaker 1: other way because he's supposed to be a villain, but
- 39:07Speaker 1: he's so charismatic that it's not even an evil charismatic.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Loki's like the con man guy, though. That's the reason.
- 39:13Speaker 1: He's the confidence man. He's always working both sides when
- 39:17Speaker 1: he needs to, but he's still supposed to seem like
- 39:19Speaker 1: a villain. But by the end, that was one of
- 39:22Speaker 1: my issues with the first Avengers movie is we don't
- 39:25Speaker 1: really have a good villain. Loki kind of isn't the villain.
- 39:29Speaker 1: The bad guys are usually.
- 39:30Speaker 7: useless nameless faceless we just need a destruction at the
- 39:33Speaker 7: end of the movie don't get me wrong that seems
- 39:34Speaker 7: badass but those aren't villains they're just things destroying something
- 39:39Speaker 7: and they're nameless and we kill them right and left
- 39:42Speaker 7: because we want to you know because we need bad
- 39:44Speaker 7: guys in quotes so yeah i mean that that's the
- 39:47Speaker 7: issue i have with that first movie and and just
- 39:50Speaker 7: villains in general but i was thinking like how many
- 39:52Speaker 7: times if we if you switch to a way more
- 39:55Speaker 7: well-known villain how many times is the joker gonna be
- 39:57Speaker 7: like batman let's just be friends and you know he's
- 40:01Speaker 7: not just going to shoot him or stab him we're
- 40:03Speaker 7: like we know he could pretend but he's not gonna
- 40:07Speaker 7: do it very convincingly we're all knowing that he's really
- 40:09Speaker 7: up to something where the magneto thing is like.
- 40:12Speaker 1: It's legit like He's, I guess, such a.
- 40:15Speaker 7: And again, I think a lot of this goes back
- 40:17Speaker 7: to the acting, too. If it was played worse, we'd
- 40:20Speaker 7: probably be like, whatever.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Right. But because Fassbender is so damn.
- 40:26Speaker 7: Committed to showing what a human being he is, that
- 40:30Speaker 7: he really does go through periods of like, all right,
- 40:34Speaker 7: you've got a point, it'll be okay as long as
- 40:37Speaker 7: I just try to stay on the straight and narrow,
- 40:39Speaker 7: and then.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Shit goes wrong. That kind of... you know, makes me again,
- 40:43Speaker 1: optimistic about the future. I feel like maybe Magneto more than, yeah,
- 40:49Speaker 1: I think it's fair to say, I think more than
- 40:51Speaker 1: any one individual person in this, including Apocalypse, I think
- 40:54Speaker 1: Magneto had more depth and groped and time than anyone else.
- 41:00Speaker 1: I think in the first part, that was what I
- 41:02Speaker 1: was going to say. Like midway into the movie, I'm like,
- 41:05Speaker 1: Fassbender really got sidelined.
- 41:07Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
- 41:08Speaker 1: I guess after he's blown up stuff.
- 41:09Speaker 7: Once Oscar Isaac steps up and they just stand on
- 41:12Speaker 7: that mountain for 45 minutes, I'm like, Fassbender has nothing
- 41:16Speaker 7: to do here. I'm surprised they signed him on for
- 41:18Speaker 7: this much, I'm assuming, time invested when.
- 41:21Speaker 1: He's really not a major part in the whole last
- 41:24Speaker 1: half of the movie until the finale. Let me kind
- 41:26Speaker 1: of reword it like this. I didn't mean most of
- 41:28Speaker 1: the movie was about him, but I guess if you
- 41:30Speaker 1: were to line everyone up as individuals, Magneto had the most...
- 41:34Speaker 1: You know, development and stuff. As an individual one person.
- 41:37Speaker 1: And I think that was, again, probably now on purpose
- 41:40Speaker 1: because he is going to be your.
- 41:44Speaker 1: Well, it gets tricky. It depends. It looks like they're
- 41:48Speaker 1: doing Fire Phoenix or Dark Phoenix.
- 41:49Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 41:50Speaker 1: I would even go to the point to say that, like,
- 41:52Speaker 1: when she's having the visions in the beginning... and it's
- 41:54Speaker 1: fire and brimstone, and she sees Apocalypse, I think the
- 41:57Speaker 1: twist will be that that wasn't Apocalypse. That wasn't Apocalypse,
- 42:00Speaker 1: that's her. It flickered Apocalypse. I think really, yeah, she's
- 42:02Speaker 1: seeing what's in her and what's coming.
- 42:04Speaker 7: It works in a little of both. It's like we get,
- 42:06Speaker 7: oh yeah, don't trust Apocalypse. Obviously, he's a weird, creepy
- 42:10Speaker 7: dude that's going to bring about the end of the
- 42:11Speaker 7: world if he has his way, but even more destructive
- 42:15Speaker 7: is you.
- 42:15Speaker 1: It's the little redhead in the dorm upstairs. No, I
- 42:20Speaker 1: feel like I'm tree ranching all over the place, but
- 42:22Speaker 1: I don't know if, you know, They'll do a trilogy.
- 42:25Speaker 1: Maybe that's why it got hints in Mr. Sinister. Maybe
- 42:27Speaker 1: the first movie will be about Mr. Sinister, but we'll
- 42:29Speaker 1: build up Dark Phoenix. Magneto will be on and off.
- 42:32Speaker 1: But I feel like building up Magneto is... Alright, no,
- 42:36Speaker 1: I can say this all the way around. We didn't
- 42:38Speaker 1: build up much Jennifer Lawrence. She was on the screen
- 42:39Speaker 1: a whole lot. A whole lot. She didn't really look
- 42:42Speaker 1: like she wanted.
- 42:42Speaker 5: To be there.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Well, that's the thing.
- 42:44Speaker 7: I thought by the end, I was like, oh, maybe
- 42:46Speaker 7: she's pulling the Robert Downey Jr.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Maybe she's like... Or the Han Solo movie. If you
- 42:52Speaker 1: guys want to go ahead and kill me in this movie,
- 42:53Speaker 1: it's cool. As he's got her by the throat, I
- 42:55Speaker 1: was like, oh, maybe this is her ticket out of
- 42:57Speaker 1: this franchise. So, again, I thought for a second there.
- 43:01Speaker 1: I was like, she's logged in free. She might be
- 43:04Speaker 1: ready to move on. She's making Oscar caliber movies now.
- 43:07Speaker 1: She doesn't have to make superhero movies if she doesn't
- 43:09Speaker 1: want to. So, yeah. I mean, there is definitely a
- 43:13Speaker 1: feeling of like, I'm here because I need to be here.
- 43:17Speaker 8: Right.
- 43:18Speaker 7: But yeah, she doesn't seem overly committed to the way
- 43:21Speaker 7: that the Magneto character is.
- 43:23Speaker 1: When the first X-Men movies were going on, you had
- 43:30Speaker 1: Halle Berry. You knew, if you looked on the internet
- 43:34Speaker 1: at all and stuff, that she was heavily influencing a
- 43:37Speaker 1: lot of stuff. She wanted more airtime. She wanted a big,
- 43:40Speaker 1: richer part. And that stuff kind of happened in the
- 43:44Speaker 1: third movie, which is kind of why the third movie
- 43:46Speaker 1: was so bad, because they did so much stuff just
- 43:48Speaker 1: for her. You know, that's obviously what happened to Jennifer Lawrence.
- 43:52Speaker 1: Not that Jennifer Lawrence isn't necessarily pushing it this time.
- 43:55Speaker 1: As much as the company going, holy F, we got
- 43:57Speaker 1: you in first class, you know you're a big deal,
- 43:59Speaker 1: we're going to focus the movie on you. Which I
- 44:01Speaker 1: think has been a huge detriment to comic readers because...
- 44:05Speaker 1: but i don't think i think raven is a bad
- 44:07Speaker 1: guy and you're making her the hero of the x-men
- 44:09Speaker 1: which has never happened that's what i was thinking earlier
- 44:12Speaker 1: i was like i'm because we've got this new reset
- 44:17Speaker 1: timeline i'm like if you want to redo everything at
- 44:20Speaker 1: this point fucking do it like i was like if
- 44:22Speaker 1: you want to keep storm on the bad side you
- 44:24Speaker 1: know what that'd be kind of interesting you want to
- 44:26Speaker 1: keep raven all the way through you'll be in the
- 44:28Speaker 1: right hand man to xavier that'd be kind of interesting. Like,
- 44:32Speaker 1: because we've reset it, we've, we've skewed the timeline enough
- 44:35Speaker 1: that we could still have all the same characters and
- 44:37Speaker 1: still interacting with each other, but maybe they fall on
- 44:40Speaker 1: the other side. And I'm like, that's kind of interesting. Like,
- 44:43Speaker 1: I'm okay with them doing that, which.
- 44:45Speaker 7: They're probably not going to because it'll piss off comic
- 44:47Speaker 7: book fans.
- 44:47Speaker 1: But I'm like, to me, I would be okay.
- 44:50Speaker 7: Like we, and some of it's financially speaking because they
- 44:52Speaker 7: know they have Jennifer Lawrence.
- 44:54Speaker 1: They want to keep her on screen. They want to
- 44:55Speaker 1: make her arguably a good guy because that's probably going
- 44:58Speaker 1: to be a man recast and use that money on
- 45:00Speaker 1: something else. Because I think that as a comic book reader,
- 45:05Speaker 1: I'm going to do both here. I don't want to
- 45:06Speaker 1: keep saying just as a comic book reader. But as
- 45:08Speaker 1: someone coming from the comic angle, having Mystique, who's been
- 45:11Speaker 1: nothing but a bad guy, as a champion of X-Men
- 45:15Speaker 1: is weird. It'd be like Evil Lin butting up at He-Man.
- 45:18Speaker 1: It's like, you're with Skeletor. What are you doing over here?
- 45:20Speaker 1: It would be interesting. But on the flip, I think
- 45:22Speaker 1: that it's not even doing well for just film goers.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Because she's just calling them in. She's not even delivering stellar...
- 45:30Speaker 1: I thought everybody was top of their game in Future's Past.
- 45:35Speaker 7: I'm talking about Apocalypse. In this one, it's not that
- 45:39Speaker 7: she's doing a bad job. It just doesn't seem like
- 45:41Speaker 7: she's trying to do anything outside of.
- 45:46Speaker 1: Some of it's the writing. Some of it is her
- 45:48Speaker 1: character is just written to take them from one thing
- 45:51Speaker 1: to the next. She shows up to okay, we have
- 45:54Speaker 1: to get these characters that we need. She's the bellhop
- 45:57Speaker 1: from Four Rooms. Yeah, she's like literally like, hey, young
- 46:00Speaker 1: kids over here. Hey, Magneto over here. Hey, Xavier over here. Hey,
- 46:03Speaker 1: Apocalypse over here. She brings everyone to one point. And
- 46:06Speaker 1: she's meant to move the plot along more than anything else.
- 46:08Speaker 1: We need to get these characters into the plot. Okay,
- 46:11Speaker 1: I'm going to go get them. Oh, now we find
- 46:13Speaker 1: out this thing about Magneto. Well, I need to bring
- 46:16Speaker 1: myself back to the school, even though I've been gone
- 46:18Speaker 1: for a decade. Like we... everything feels written for her
- 46:22Speaker 1: character to be not really that important other than to
- 46:25Speaker 1: the plot of the movie, not with her character. So
- 46:28Speaker 1: I don't totally blame her, but at the same time,
- 46:30Speaker 1: she's like, I got three movies to make right now. Whatever.
- 46:33Speaker 7: I'll show up and do what I need to do,
- 46:34Speaker 7: but I got to go like make another Oscar caliber movie.
- 46:38Speaker 1: I think, I think, you know, they noticed she doesn't
- 46:40Speaker 1: want to be around anymore. And I think that, um,
- 46:43Speaker 1: which didn't hit me at first. And so I really
- 46:45Speaker 1: thought about it. Cause you know, at the end, Again,
- 46:48Speaker 1: you get this last shot with them all in the
- 46:51Speaker 1: danger room, and she is for the first time wearing
- 46:54Speaker 1: Mystique's outfit. That's what blew my head at the moment.
- 46:56Speaker 1: I was like, she's got the white collared blue. I
- 46:59Speaker 1: was like, I've never seen her in that. The very
- 47:02Speaker 1: end of the third movie, this is probably the last
- 47:03Speaker 1: time we're going to see her, and she finally puts
- 47:06Speaker 1: on Mystique's outfit. My thing with that is that they
- 47:10Speaker 1: kept talking about it all movie. Why are you ashamed
- 47:13Speaker 1: of your blue side? Why are you ashamed of your
- 47:14Speaker 1: blue side? And now at the end, she's like proud
- 47:17Speaker 1: of her blue side. I think if you got to
- 47:20Speaker 1: recast Mystique, it's probably going to be a lot easier
- 47:23Speaker 1: if that person is mostly in the blue Mystique gear.
- 47:27Speaker 1: I mean, because if she changed her look to look
- 47:29Speaker 1: like other people, that's fine. She doesn't have to look
- 47:31Speaker 1: like Jennifer Lawrence anymore. You could almost, if you have
- 47:34Speaker 1: to do it, if you have to maintain Mystique going forward,
- 47:37Speaker 1: the best way to do that is to go... she's
- 47:40Speaker 1: going to be in her blue, which is how it
- 47:43Speaker 1: is in a comic. She maintains that blue look most
- 47:45Speaker 1: of the time. So again, just me backing up my
- 47:48Speaker 1: theory again, that this is more about leading to the future.
- 47:51Speaker 1: I think that's how they're kind of dealing with Jennifer
- 47:53Speaker 1: Lawrence being gone.
- 47:54Speaker 7: I think it is, but I also think there's a way, again,
- 47:59Speaker 7: watching that final scene, she's just seeming like, okay, I'm the.
- 48:03Speaker 1: General of this little thing.
- 48:04Speaker 7: So I think from that point on, she could back
- 48:07Speaker 7: out both within the context of the story and the
- 48:09Speaker 7: context of making the movie.
- 48:10Speaker 1: Or she just goes missing. I think, well, I think
- 48:12Speaker 1: she could be. The next movie could be like, we
- 48:13Speaker 1: don't know where Magneto is and we all know that
- 48:16Speaker 1: Mystique is off looking for him.
- 48:18Speaker 7: She'll be back later. I think she's going to be
- 48:20Speaker 7: the new Hugh Jackman. I think it'll be one of
- 48:22Speaker 7: those like, she's not in the movie very much. And
- 48:25Speaker 7: then every once in a while, they'll be like, who's
- 48:26Speaker 7: this guy?
- 48:27Speaker 6: Oh, look.
- 48:27Speaker 1: And she'll change over and it's Jennifer Lawrence. And she's like,
- 48:29Speaker 1: did you go to the favor? Here I am.
- 48:31Speaker 7: So like, I think, yeah, I think that's potential where
- 48:34Speaker 7: that could go. And it may be easier for everybody
- 48:37Speaker 7: if she's just like, I'm just going to back off.
- 48:39Speaker 1: But again, you guys helped me out. So I'm like,
- 48:42Speaker 1: I'll still come back and do a cameo when you
- 48:44Speaker 1: need it. But so, yeah, I think I think that's
- 48:46Speaker 1: probably true of a lot of these people. Maybe I
- 48:49Speaker 1: don't know.
- 48:49Speaker 7: It's like as we get to the older crew, it's
- 48:52Speaker 7: like maybe they're going to not bring in as much.
- 48:54Speaker 1: Magneto for a movie or two.
- 48:57Speaker 7: Maybe he's going to be not the main villain or
- 48:59Speaker 7: even part of the hero crew. He's just going to
- 49:01Speaker 7: be taken out because he did wander off. So maybe
- 49:04Speaker 7: we're going to skip two movies.
- 49:05Speaker 1: He's not going to be in them. And then the
- 49:06Speaker 1: third in this next trilogy, he comes back. When the
- 49:08Speaker 1: Dark Phoenix stuff happens, then yeah, definitely Magneto and Mystique
- 49:11Speaker 1: come back. And that's why I think they're doing the
- 49:15Speaker 1: Essex score and you're going to have Mr. Sinister. That's
- 49:17Speaker 1: why it makes me wonder if they don't have a
- 49:18Speaker 1: whole other... maybe, again, they got smart about it and
- 49:22Speaker 1: are like, let's start thinking long-term, which is, again, which
- 49:25Speaker 1: has kind of surprised me. It's made me wonder if
- 49:27Speaker 1: they've been thinking long-term for a while now. Maybe. And
- 49:30Speaker 1: that's what we're seeing. It's like, let's think long-term. Let's
- 49:32Speaker 1: recreate the X-Men. What is arguably one of the pentacle
- 49:37Speaker 1: times in X-Men history?
- 49:38Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 49:38Speaker 2: The 90s.
- 49:39Speaker 1: The 90s is when you had great, great, great X-Men
- 49:41Speaker 1: stuff going on. And it seems like all of this is...
- 49:44Speaker 1: And they confirm that the next X-Men movie will be
- 49:47Speaker 1: in the 90s. The same way this one was in
- 49:49Speaker 1: the 80s. How awesome was it to hear 80s music
- 49:51Speaker 1: and 80s fashion all over? I loved it. They keep
- 49:54Speaker 1: backing it. Yeah, every year we jump ahead 10 years.
- 49:58Speaker 7: And that's what I loved about that first one is how,
- 50:03Speaker 7: because it's set in the 60s, they also... made it
- 50:08Speaker 7: part of history. That was my favorite thing about first
- 50:11Speaker 7: class was the fact that.
- 50:12Speaker 1: They took the fictional fantasy comic book world and made
- 50:18Speaker 1: it make sense in the real world of like horrible
- 50:22Speaker 1: things going on in our actual times. Like Cuban missile
- 50:25Speaker 1: crisis happened because mutants, you know, I'm like, that's kind
- 50:29Speaker 1: of awesome.
- 50:29Speaker 7: Like that's smart writing, especially in something that's dealing with
- 50:33Speaker 7: going back in time.
- 50:34Speaker 1: Um, Not in a time travel sense like the next one.
- 50:37Speaker 1: But even then we skip to the 70s and you
- 50:39Speaker 1: see all the like turmoil that's going on in the
- 50:41Speaker 1: 70s in the real world.
- 50:43Speaker 7: And we now make it about mutants or at least
- 50:45Speaker 7: add mutants to the stuff that was already going on
- 50:48Speaker 7: in the 70s.
- 50:48Speaker 8: So.
- 50:49Speaker 1: They are pretty clever. This one was kind of light
- 50:51Speaker 1: on that angle. Like, we didn't really touch, I guess,
- 50:54Speaker 1: just the nuke. I saw some members only jackets and
- 50:56Speaker 1: things like that. Yeah, the costumes and the music were
- 50:59Speaker 1: the bulk of it.
- 51:00Speaker 7: It didn't feel like it was, like, important social events
- 51:03Speaker 7: of the 80s other than nukes everywhere.
- 51:05Speaker 1: And Jubilee is just always 80s as fuck. So, like,
- 51:08Speaker 1: her with the big yellow jacket and the hoop rings. Like,
- 51:10Speaker 1: this is perfect right now. They just ditched her, though.
- 51:13Speaker 1: She's a kid. Leave her here. Again, that's why I really, really...
- 51:16Speaker 1: You know, I feel... I feel kind of bad because
- 51:19Speaker 1: I feel like we're still not actually talking about the
- 51:20Speaker 1: movie as much as just how it made me feel
- 51:22Speaker 1: after seeing it. I just feel like this whole movie,
- 51:26Speaker 1: in a way, was a promise. It was going, look,
- 51:29Speaker 1: as a movie, I completely understand it. Almost the same
- 51:34Speaker 1: way with Civil War. If you hadn't watched another X-Men movie,
- 51:36Speaker 1: you can't watch this. It will not make any sense
- 51:39Speaker 1: if you have not watched the other X-Men movies. They
- 51:42Speaker 1: all kind of get to that point because that's my,
- 51:45Speaker 1: I mean, as we went over sort of with Age
- 51:48Speaker 1: of Ultron, I'm like, I feel like that. I said
- 51:53Speaker 1: it before, is a bigger story than what they crammed
- 51:56Speaker 1: into the length of that movie. But it was almost like, well,
- 51:59Speaker 1: but we need to get to Infinity Gauntlet. Right. So
- 52:01Speaker 1: we've got to hurry up and get this stuff done
- 52:03Speaker 1: so that we can check all the boxes we need
- 52:06Speaker 1: to get done to be able to get to this
- 52:09Speaker 1: thing that we've been promising since the first movie post-credits.
- 52:12Speaker 1: So it's like, we've got to get to this guy.
- 52:14Speaker 1: We've got to get to the Infinity Gauntlet. We've got
- 52:16Speaker 1: to get all this stuff done.
- 52:18Speaker 7: Done because we set this timetable so it's like we
- 52:21Speaker 7: don't have time for a two-part age.
- 52:22Speaker 1: Of ultron movie we just got to knock it out
- 52:24Speaker 1: in one i feel like this is kind of that
- 52:26Speaker 1: same thing of like okay we want to be able
- 52:28Speaker 1: to get past all this and do whatever we want
- 52:31Speaker 1: with the x-men right But here's a story that people
- 52:33Speaker 1: kind of know if you're a comic book fan and
- 52:35Speaker 1: we want to work that in too. But we want
- 52:37Speaker 1: to make sure we get to the point. We want
- 52:39Speaker 1: to hit all the little areas we need to hit
- 52:41Speaker 1: so that we can move forward and do what we
- 52:42Speaker 1: want to do. So I think it is kind of
- 52:44Speaker 1: that same idea. I completely agree. Yeah, I definitely think
- 52:45Speaker 1: that this was the X-Men's age of Ultron. The sense
- 52:48Speaker 1: that Ultron was such a huge villain, you could have
- 52:50Speaker 1: easily done multiple movies to encompass him. Apocalypse more so.
- 52:55Speaker 1: Apocalypse is so, so huge in the X-Men mythos.
- 53:00Speaker 8: Like, it....
- 53:03Speaker 1: He's like their Thanos, almost, in many senses. He's like,
- 53:06Speaker 1: he's so old. He's like, in the comic, he is
- 53:09Speaker 1: like the origin of almost all religion. You know, like
- 53:12Speaker 1: his whole, oh gosh, it's been forever. His, they said
- 53:15Speaker 1: it a couple times in a movie, but I forget
- 53:17Speaker 1: what it actually is, so don't hate me for not
- 53:20Speaker 1: saying it. Like, his actual name, or his first thing,
- 53:23Speaker 1: he's called like An-Ranun-Sa, or something. Yeah, they hadn't credited
- 53:27Speaker 1: it as that, too. It's an Arabic phrase, which, in
- 53:29Speaker 1: the comic, they said means the first one. But, the
- 53:33Speaker 1: literal translation in arabic is the morning light which is
- 53:37Speaker 1: that close to morning star i mean and you know
- 53:41Speaker 1: he's supposed to be like this the bringer of false
- 53:44Speaker 1: religion like he is this guy that through time wakes
- 53:48Speaker 1: up kind of checks the status of humanity he's like
- 53:50Speaker 1: what are you guys worshiping what are you doing stop
- 53:53Speaker 1: that and he kind of creates these religions and stuff
- 53:56Speaker 1: throughout time he is supposed to be like the great
- 53:58Speaker 1: deceiver in that regard like he's the one that's kind
- 54:01Speaker 1: of making sure people were like worshiping him in, in
- 54:03Speaker 1: weird ways. So he's such a bigger, bigger, bigger, there
- 54:09Speaker 1: could have been huge scope on him. You could have
- 54:11Speaker 1: done so much more and things like, you know, as
- 54:15Speaker 1: awesome as it was to me to see, um, apocalypse
- 54:18Speaker 1: and Xavier fight the psychic battle. I thought that was
- 54:21Speaker 1: once it started, I was like, Oh my God, this
- 54:23Speaker 1: is so, cause that stuff happens in the comic a
- 54:25Speaker 1: lot where you go in this weird realm and you
- 54:27Speaker 1: know that they're psychically battling. So when it, Put him
- 54:29Speaker 1: in that kind of cloud space, like, oh my gosh,
- 54:31Speaker 1: we're going to get a psychic battle. What was a
- 54:34Speaker 1: little upsetting, and I'm sure this is the kind of
- 54:36Speaker 1: thing that's going to make a lot of people not
- 54:37Speaker 1: like the movie, is that Apollos could do that stuff anytime.
- 54:41Speaker 1: He could have swelled up to a huge size when
- 54:44Speaker 1: they were having the big fight at the end. He
- 54:46Speaker 1: had so many more abilities and powers than the movie
- 54:50Speaker 1: let him have. The movie almost just made him like
- 54:52Speaker 1: a mouthpiece. You know, they did a whole, he can
- 54:54Speaker 1: absorb mutants kind of thing. And it's like, he's way
- 54:58Speaker 1: more powerful than that. Which is, again, the arguments that
- 55:00Speaker 1: made Ultron. It's like, Ultron is way more sinister and
- 55:03Speaker 1: dark and meaner than what he is.
- 55:04Speaker 7: We have all these huge, and it's funny, they get
- 55:07Speaker 7: more and more interstellar, I guess, as they go on.
- 55:10Speaker 1: Because you get, like, Apocalypse, but then the.
- 55:13Speaker 7: Main, well, there's a couple of the main ones in, like,
- 55:16Speaker 7: the Guardians of the Galaxy little realm. That are kind
- 55:19Speaker 7: of that same thing. And then we have Thanos kind
- 55:21Speaker 7: of doing the same thing.
- 55:22Speaker 1: Well, they hinted at the Celestials. Each one of these.
- 55:24Speaker 1: In the beginning, the weird technology with the sun. Yeah.
- 55:26Speaker 1: In the comic, he took that from a group of
- 55:28Speaker 1: people called the Celestials, which is a huge intergalactic kind
- 55:31Speaker 1: of race of people. It's, you know. So, yeah. I mean,
- 55:34Speaker 1: they are. They are. They.
- 55:36Speaker 8: You know.
- 55:36Speaker 1: You see a lot of things that you know the
- 55:41Speaker 1: deeper meaning of. And this is. just for me repeating this.
- 55:44Speaker 1: You know the deeper meaning of this comic reading. You go, oh,
- 55:46Speaker 1: I know what that is. I know what this is
- 55:47Speaker 1: and stuff. And I'm sure that a lot of people
- 55:50Speaker 1: that haven't were probably a bit more like, I get
- 55:53Speaker 1: the idea of what's going on here, but I'm sure
- 55:55Speaker 1: that even an average moviegoer is going to be like,
- 55:57Speaker 1: I feel like there's a lot more going on. I
- 55:59Speaker 1: didn't get there. I'm sure that's going to happen again.
- 56:02Speaker 7: This movie is playing more toward the comic book fans, whereas, again,
- 56:07Speaker 7: I think Days of Future Past is almost like a
- 56:09Speaker 7: bottle episode.
- 56:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 56:10Speaker 7: Like you could just come in having never seen a
- 56:12Speaker 7: damn thing and be like, that was a good movie.
- 56:15Speaker 4: Right, right.
- 56:15Speaker 7: You just kind of have the basic idea of what
- 56:17Speaker 7: mutants are and they can have this power and this
- 56:19Speaker 7: power and whatever.
- 56:20Speaker 1: And then you'll be like, oh, that was kind of cool.
- 56:21Speaker 1: And then they all wrapped it up. So I'm like
- 56:23Speaker 1: that one. And I think I guess that's what I
- 56:25Speaker 1: was hinting at earlier. It's like that I think was
- 56:29Speaker 1: sort of my issue with it is I think this
- 56:31Speaker 1: and it's it is funny that they're both Bryan Singer.
- 56:33Speaker 1: Like he did direct Days of Future Past. I feel
- 56:36Speaker 1: like the structuring and the timing and the movement is
- 56:39Speaker 1: so perfect on days of future past that like I
- 56:42Speaker 1: got into this. And like I said, I'm like probably
- 56:45Speaker 1: an hour something in. And I'm like, where's this going?
- 56:50Speaker 1: I was just like, they did it. Like, I don't
- 56:52Speaker 1: mind that the Egypt set up and I don't mind
- 56:54Speaker 1: coming back in and checking in with, you know, our,
- 56:57Speaker 1: our characters and like starting to gather the meetings. That's important.
- 57:00Speaker 1: We have to do that.
- 57:02Speaker 7: But like it was like, I was kind of midway
- 57:04Speaker 7: in and I'm like, am I liking this movie? And
- 57:07Speaker 7: it wasn't until, until they destroy the school, basically like
- 57:12Speaker 7: from that point on. And it's, it's because it changed. Like,
- 57:15Speaker 7: I feel like it's kind of uneven because from that
- 57:18Speaker 7: point on, it's the Scooby gang is going to go
- 57:21Speaker 7: rescue our heroes.
- 57:22Speaker 1: And I'm like, okay, that's fun. Like all of a
- 57:24Speaker 1: sudden it changed.
- 57:25Speaker 2: And it was like, right.
- 57:26Speaker 7: I like hanging out with these characters. I like, you know,
- 57:28Speaker 7: we go on the little side trip. And then from
- 57:30Speaker 7: that point on, they're all kind of working as a
- 57:32Speaker 7: team and they're trying to defeat him.
- 57:33Speaker 1: And I'm like, from that point on, it was fun.
- 57:35Speaker 1: And that's why I feel like this movie is the promise.
- 57:38Speaker 1: It's the promise of this is what's coming. And that's
- 57:41Speaker 1: why I feel like the movie was convoluted because you
- 57:43Speaker 1: had the plot of the movie, but I feel like,
- 57:46Speaker 1: you know, and again, I keep calling it the Spider-Man
- 57:48Speaker 1: thing as in Civil War, but I feel like you
- 57:50Speaker 1: had a dozen Spider-Man scenes peppered in. Instead of one,
- 57:53Speaker 1: you had a dozen because it was like, you know,
- 57:55Speaker 1: plot with apocalypse and hey, look, Jean Grey and there's
- 57:59Speaker 1: little dark Phoenix and apocalypse. And Hey, look, Cyclops, he
- 58:02Speaker 1: got his lenses and apocalypse. And Hey, look, uh, nightcrawler,
- 58:08Speaker 1: you know? And you just, yeah. When you get to
- 58:10Speaker 1: the point where the kids all meet up from then
- 58:13Speaker 1: on somewhere in the middle of the movie, that's when
- 58:15Speaker 1: it was clicking to me. I was like, okay, at
- 58:17Speaker 1: this point, even if everything with apocalypse is awful, what
- 58:22Speaker 1: you are establishing as like my favorite nineties, click of
- 58:26Speaker 1: X-Men is, is, giving me wood right now i'm like
- 58:30Speaker 1: if you keep these guys tight i don't even care
- 58:33Speaker 1: if you know everything else is a mess if you
- 58:35Speaker 1: keep these guys tight the next movie it's nothing but
- 58:39Speaker 1: the tightness you know it's just that young x-men click
- 58:42Speaker 1: magneto is the bad guy you know he can be
- 58:45Speaker 1: good and evil Professor X is bald being Professor X.
- 58:48Speaker 1: You got the school. The world is going to hate mutants.
- 58:53Speaker 1: You reconfirmed again that we remember what Sentinels were. In
- 58:56Speaker 1: my head, I'm going, this is the ideal setup for
- 59:00Speaker 1: that 90s X-Men story. It sucks that Apocalypse kind of
- 59:05Speaker 1: got trashed to get there. It sucks that we threw
- 59:08Speaker 1: Angel and... in the garbage can to get there. Psylocke
- 59:13Speaker 1: was such a letdown, not in how she looks. If
- 59:17Speaker 1: you were to watch it muted, that outfit looked awesome.
- 59:21Speaker 1: She moved awesome. But she had a total of 12 words.
- 59:25Speaker 1: Not even 12 sentences, 12 words. I could barely separate it, but.
- 59:30Speaker 7: And I'm sure I'm not unlike most geeks out there.
- 59:32Speaker 1: The whole time I'm just like, Livia Munn's so freaking hot.
- 59:35Speaker 1: The whole time I'm like, and then she gets in
- 59:38Speaker 1: the costume. I'm like, shit.
- 59:40Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 59:40Speaker 1: Like, this is ridiculous. There was a, I remember like
- 59:44Speaker 1: when she was put into like the Street Fighter versus
- 59:47Speaker 1: X-Men game back in the 90s, like the Capcom fighting game.
- 59:50Speaker 1: I remember thinking, damn, that girl makes me feel a
- 59:53Speaker 1: little dirty. Like, I shouldn't be this attracted to.
- 59:56Speaker 8: A video game.
- 59:57Speaker 1: I think it's because she's such a dork. You know,
- 59:59Speaker 1: that's the thing.
- 59:59Speaker 7: I see plenty of hot girls. There's tons of, like,
- 1:00:01Speaker 7: models out there that are quote-unquote hot.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: But I'm like, because I know she's one of us,
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: because she is a complete and utter dork above all,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: and on top of that is into all the genre
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: geeky stuff, I'm just like, that makes her so much hotter.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: I think knowing that, it's hard for me to even
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: put her and watch her in movies. I haven't seen
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: a ton of stuff that she's in. Because to me,
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: she's still just Olivia Munn. She's always, like, herself off the.
- 1:00:25Speaker 7: dancing around being a dork or whatever she's doing that
- 1:00:27Speaker 7: day because she that's again that's like the.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: Biggest selling point for her that's what made her into who.
- 1:00:31Speaker 7: She is is that she's she's geek acceptable you know
- 1:00:35Speaker 7: she she fits in just fine with the rest of
- 1:00:38Speaker 7: us geek so yeah which.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: Is smart again in a sense that in my i'm
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: saying it over and over but my point of view
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: is always going to be about the future now i
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: feel like the people involved now care yeah i feel
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: like and the ones that might not care, I think can't,
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: and I don't mean this to sound shitty, but might
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: financially care. Like going forward, Hugh Jackman probably don't give
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: a fuck. But if you go, hey, look, we just
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: need you for 10 minutes to do this one scene,
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: he'll probably be like, cool, yeah, I'll step in for
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: 10 minutes. If Fassbender needs to come in for 10,
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: 15 minutes to do Simon's Magneto, I don't think it's
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: going to be impossible to get them back for small stuff.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: I don't think you're going to see them for whole movies.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: But all the kids, I say kids, they're all like
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: young 20s, but the new younger cast I think they're
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: all down to do this for a minute. Well, that's
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: what you were saying. Professor X seems pretty down to
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: do this for a while.
- 1:01:29Speaker 7: You were saying, I wonder what they're going to do
- 1:01:30Speaker 7: with this. It's like, I think there's easily another trilogy
- 1:01:33Speaker 7: coming just because they bothered to set up all these
- 1:01:35Speaker 7: new kids. And the kids are also.
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: all really well-known characters, too. It's not like they were weird,
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: awful shoot-wins that hardly... Sophie Turner murdered it. Storm and Cyclops.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: Murdered it as Jean Grey. I loved her as Jean Grey.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: I wasn't sure what to think in the beginning. I
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: was like, wait, is this supposed to be Jean Grey?
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: But yeah, she's pretty damn cool. The Alexander ship. Again,
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: freaking cute. She's Storm. Doesn't have much to do, but
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: I'm like, just seeing how.
- 1:02:06Speaker 7: Great she is when she's got presence on screen and
- 1:02:09Speaker 7: the little bit of time that she has to do
- 1:02:10Speaker 7: what she does. And on top of that, of everything
- 1:02:14Speaker 7: I've seen, there's tons of marketing going on right now,
- 1:02:16Speaker 7: as I'm sure we all know.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: She's become the face of it. I've seen her do tons.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: She did the intro before the movie. Yeah, I got
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: that too. She did that.
- 1:02:26Speaker 7: I've seen her do a walkthrough behind the scenes with
- 1:02:30Speaker 7: something on one channel. I've seen three different things that
- 1:02:33Speaker 7: I'm not even trying to see. I just happened to
- 1:02:36Speaker 7: see three different things. They all were featuring her.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Have you seen the party blooper? There was some little
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: thing the cast did. They're standing in the hallway before Cerebro.
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: It's the whole young cast and they did some little
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: funny thing where they play some dubstep and they're all
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: kind of standing. And just as it hits, they all
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: start dancing. It's only like a 10-second clip. But you
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: see them having fun and stuff. They're already into it.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: You can tell they're excited about it. I think that, again,
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: going back to how I feel like, in my head,
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: this movie is called The Promise. Psylocke, I was disappointed
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: in the movie that she wasn't talking more, only in
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: the sense that They were just such placemats. Like, here's Apocalypse,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: and here's the four powerful people around him. And at first,
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: I was getting bugged with that. I was like, you're
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: punking out Psylocke. But then when it ended, I was like, okay, look.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: We saw her. We saw that she can kill it.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: So now you have this future trilogy to flesh her out.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: That's cool that she slipped away then, because we know
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: she's coming back. And you will establish her the way
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: you want later. We don't have room in this movie
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: to do it. We saw that painfully out of all
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: these people. As crammed as it already was, I don't
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: need exposition on her. I don't need exposition on Storm.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: In the end, she came around, and we know we're
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: going to get it later. We're going to get it later.
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: But she just, man, back in the day when we
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: used to like fantasy cast movies, I used to, again,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: just like 20 years ago, though, I used to say
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: Angela Bassett as Storm. I was like, I want Angela
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: Bassett with the shaved head and the mohawk. This girl,
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: when she was doing the little opening thing before the
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: movie started, the Storm actress- I even kind of thought,
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: she's kind of got a bit of an Angela Bassett.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: Her cheekbones, I was like, no, she looks great as Storm.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: You're going to be... The point, again, is that even
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: the things I didn't like in this movie, I was
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: okay with because it was almost like there was this filter.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: Like your gold rush. You got your pan with the
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: dirt and gold. It's like... all the dirt fell out.
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: By the end of the movie, you had nothing but
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: gold in the pan. You're like, oh my gosh, look
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: at all these gold nuggets for the next movie. I
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: think that's why I was so happy with it. I'm
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: sure that if the future was in question, I might
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: be more critical like, oh, you bitched out Apocalypse. Oh, Magneto.
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: If it was X-Men 3, you'd be like, fuck this franchise.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: But we don't have reason to do that here. I
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: was just getting excited, Tom. Even to the point where
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: with Wolverine running off into the woods, I've already kind
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: of plugged that. I think that was also a reminder
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: that his next movie is going to be more violent
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: to kind of give you a taste of that. But
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: him running off to the woods but still having that
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: moment with Jane, which was great. But him running off
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: to the snow makes me wonder if If you want him,
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: you can still cameo him. But as far as the
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: 90s cast, since you can't, Wolverine has to be a
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: part of that. Especially if Dark Phoenix can be there.
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: But I wouldn't mind if as a placeholder, in addition
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: to him coming in for cameos, do X-23. With the
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: sinister Essex guy at the end getting the vials, how
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: awesome would it be to get a young girl being X-23,
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: and then when Wolverine cameos, they can even have awesome
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: play with each other. I feel like that is... I
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: have no problem with you substituting X-23 in that 90s cast.
- 1:06:00Speaker 8: If.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: I kind of.
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: Can be optimistic that when the dark Phoenix stuff is
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: hitting the fan, that you can get Hugh to come
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: back for that movie, at least for that movie. I
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: don't think that forever. I will gladly take an X
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: 23 on screen. And I think that's an awesome thing
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: to be excited about the X 23. She's awesome. Like she's,
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: I would argue is like, you know, it's probably like
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: how like spider Gwen is right now. She's an awesome female. Yeah.
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: You know, superhero. We need those. Get her on screen.
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: And finally, they're being appreciated. So it's like, it would
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: be really cool. to find the perfect casting for that
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: and just bring somebody in. And you just say, you know,
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: like you said earlier, like it's a new timeline. Some
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: things can be different. Well, how about in this timeline,
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: instead of like Logan being that, that weapon X person
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: at such a focal point with X-Men, it's X-23. What
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: if these experiments happen to a young girl who turns into,
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: you know, X-23 and she's the one that they find.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: And she's the one that's kind of like the powerhouse
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: that everyone's worried about and stuff.
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: What if X-23 and Jean Grey?
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Anyway, sidebar. It's a new world. You can do that
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: kind of stuff. If not, there will be plenty of
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: fan fiction after they do that for you. I'm sure.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: Plenty of fan fiction and fan art. But yeah, I
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: was trying to think of... Well, that's the thing.
- 1:07:23Speaker 7: Of all the characters, of which there are many, and
- 1:07:25Speaker 7: I guess I was going to pose that question because
- 1:07:28Speaker 7: we've done this at least three times lately. And every
- 1:07:31Speaker 7: time it's not us talking about a superhero, every time
- 1:07:35Speaker 7: it's a multitude of super, even in the one that's
- 1:07:38Speaker 7: only supposed to be about two, they work in a
- 1:07:40Speaker 7: third and promise of six others.
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: So it's like, I'm like, is it just overkill? Like,
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: are we purposefully writing these movies because we want to
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: throw so much at the wall now because it's sort
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: of popular and like, we'll bring in, you know, kids
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: from the mall that maybe didn't care about it, but
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: they saw this shirt that had this character on it. And, Like,
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: are we bringing in normal people by just throwing a
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: ton of characters at the screen and being like, here,
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: here's all these things you like. Yeah, and hopefully you
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: notice something. Or, I mean, is it just that we're
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: writing bigger stories? Like, I think, again. I think it's
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: writing bigger stories. I think that's what it is. That's
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: why I feel like I'm. Or it's a little of both,
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: we'll say. I think, you know, I was just, maybe
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: because I kind of tuned out X-Men. Kind of go
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: back to those first three. That third one was so
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: bad to me. that I watched first class and I
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: watched days of future past. I'm watching both probably three
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: or four times each, but my heart wasn't in it
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: as much as like the vendor stuff is now. So
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: I think maybe because I wasn't, know really mentally you
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: know being so obsessed with it i didn't see it
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: leading to this and maybe that maybe i'm just a
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: slow guy that didn't really realize it till i was
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: in the movie seeing it right now going wait is
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: all this leading to the 90s x-men like all this
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: time was it leading to the 90s x-men and i
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: didn't see that because again that's my favorite part and
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: i'm just like wow you you guys... I don't know
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: to say that it will bring regular people to the movie,
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: but I think it will do a lot better than
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: the way they've been writing. In a sense, I don't
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: think it's the arguments that the Marvel Universe makes where
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: it's like, stay more faithful to the comic and you
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: get better results. But I do think that even millennials,
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: even probably more so millennials, like when they think of X-Men,
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: it's probably more that 90s era of X-Men. I think
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: first class, like I said, was.
- 1:09:30Speaker 7: They grew up really young watching those reruns of like
- 1:09:34Speaker 7: every day after school.
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: Fox Kids was playing that. I feel like now you are,
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: you know, just by time, you know, just by how
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: it's only like 16, 17, you know, 16, 26 years
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: ago now, I think It will be more fresh in
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: the minds of younger people. I know it'll help in
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: that regard. But I don't know. I don't know necessarily
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: that you've had six X-Men movies. Now, if you can't
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: get the average Joe off the street to come see
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: an X-Men movie, I just think they're not going to now.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: So I think now is when you double down on
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: your comic readers and your light familiarity kind of people. Like, yeah,
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: I haven't read an X-Men comic, but I know who
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: these people are. I visually recognize them and They're fine.
- 1:10:15Speaker 7: I think we're getting to that point because before we
- 1:10:18Speaker 7: sat down, I looked just to see what news was
- 1:10:21Speaker 7: on this and more or less what the box office was.
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: It did take number one. It beat out what looks
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: like that god-awful freaking Alice in Wonderland. It's getting tanked.
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: Good God, that thing looks insufferable. I can't believe it happened.
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: I barely made it through the first one.
- 1:10:36Speaker 8: Barely.
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: It made a fortune. It was one of the biggest movies.
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: The first one was? Yeah, the first movie. I think
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: even in this country it made a fortune.
- 1:10:43Speaker 7: I can barely finish it. But globally, it was one
- 1:10:46Speaker 7: of the most successful movies of all time. Like, it
- 1:10:49Speaker 7: literally is on.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: I think it's still on that top ten. It's up
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: there behind, you know, like, Titanic and Avengers. It's so
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: bizarre to me.
- 1:10:56Speaker 7: Yeah, it makes no sense to me. Because that one
- 1:10:58Speaker 7: looked bad. But, like, this one looks insufferable. So, I mean,
- 1:11:02Speaker 7: for me, it didn't surprise me that it did. But
- 1:11:04Speaker 7: it also, reading on, it's like, it's also... not near
- 1:11:08Speaker 7: as big an opening as.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: Days of Future Past. So I think that's probably superhero fatigue.
- 1:11:13Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: I think we've already had two big superhero movies come
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: out recently. Yeah. Really recently. And hugely, I mean, well,
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: this is the big three.
- 1:11:22Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: I would argue this is the big three. You know, like,
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: not that Batman and Superman was Justice League, but it's,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: we know that's where it's going. It more or less is.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: So in essence, you had an origin story-ish Justice League.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: You had another Avengers thing. And now you got X-Men.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: I mean, you know, Fantastic Four happened earlier this year too,
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: but you know, it tanked also. I mean, you're getting all,
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: they're near the end of last year, but still, they're getting,
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: all the big ones have happened within like the last six,
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: seven months. So yeah, I can see where. I think
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: that's what you lost. I think us comic, me, I
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: was stoked. Like this has been the greatest year of
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: my life right now. But I think the average, if
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: you are not in, it would be the same way like,
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: if you just did it by genre, sci-fi. fantasy western
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: you know if if this year had five breakout westerns
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: there's a point where you go god another cowboy well
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: it is like yeah you can go to it for
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: novelty the first time or so you can be like
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: oh i'm not into westerns and then you'll see unforgiven
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: and go oh that's kind of different than i thought
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: a western would be and then so okay then you
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: go see the next one you're like oh that was
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: kind of but three or four down you're like all
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: right okay i've seen enough westerns so i'm sure normal
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: people have that response to like more freaking superheroes oh
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: my god and like so i think this weekend pulled
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: in a ton of comic book people, a few that
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: were on the fence and then everybody else went, whatever,
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: I'll watch it on video. So like, I think you're.
- 1:12:44Speaker 7: Getting to that point where it does make me wonder
- 1:12:47Speaker 7: how much they've roped people in that didn't used to
- 1:12:50Speaker 7: be interested in that. Is it going to be enough
- 1:12:53Speaker 7: that it, at the end of the year, Dr.
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: Strange is going to pull in regular people because he's
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: pretty far out in the loop of like not really mainstream.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: Real curious to see how he does.
- 1:13:02Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: Because it looks like he got the budget to be visual,
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: which like I said, is pretty much what his comic is.
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: Like his comics always gets like the crazy artists that
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: just do these great big, just acid trippy, you know,
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: kind of visual. So I think, you know, with that budget,
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: you know, and I hate saying this, I'm usually not
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: this kind of person, but I think, you know, hopefully
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: it looks good enough to be a good movie. And
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: I usually don't say those kinds of things, but hopefully
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: it looks good enough because that's what it's going to
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: weigh so much. Not that you don't have solid actors.
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: Your hero and villain and old girl playing his trainer,
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: you have solid acting in there. But when it's something
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: like that, the hinges on the visuals. You need the
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: visuals to bring it home. Yeah, the visuals are what's
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: going to bring it home. It's going to fall flat.
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: It's going to make him look stupid when he's up there.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: They need to put a lot of money into it.
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: The whole Inception scene just looks bananas. Just like him
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: with sparklers on his hands. It's going to look really silly.
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: So like if you don't have the budget to really
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: nail it. He's like throwing pop rocks and like disappearing.
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: Take that. All right. I was like, this is really
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: what we're going with? But in order to establish, you know,
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: and again to kind of tie it in with this, Netflix,
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: I assume you've probably somewhat heard of this, Netflix is
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: talking about there are three possibilities going forward could be
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: a ghostwriter, series, a, um, blade series. And that would
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: pull people in and, uh, I believe moon night. But
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: the thing is, is that they were all people that
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: kind of have to do with the mystic realm. And
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: it makes me wonder if this isn't them again, being
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: super smart and going, look, we're going to give you Dr. Strange.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: And if they go all in on that movie and
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: go look how crazy and amazing the mystical world of
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: the Marvel universe, because we haven't seen this at all yet,
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: magic and stuff. We haven't seen it at all. And
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: it's huge in the universe. And you're going to get
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: a ton of it in Thanos. They have to introduce it.
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: But if they go all in and really go, look
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: how awesome the magical, spiritual, undead, demon-ish world is in
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: a Marvel universe, and then you get a solid... I
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: feel like maybe this is them opening the door for...
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: It's Ghost Rider. Did I say Ghost Rider?
- 1:15:11Speaker 7: Yeah, I was going to say you've got an uphill
- 1:15:14Speaker 7: battle with Ghost Rider because we've already had two movies
- 1:15:17Speaker 7: and they're ridiculous.
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: But look how Daredevil took it back. That's what I
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: was just going to say.
- 1:15:22Speaker 7: I was like, but I would have written off Daredevil
- 1:15:24Speaker 7: after that first movie. So I'm like, there's a possibility
- 1:15:28Speaker 7: you can turn it around if you do it well.
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: But that one is almost like a punchline at this point.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: Like anything Nick Cage related, it's kind of a punchline.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: So like, it's possible. I think of the three, and
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: not enough people know Moon Knight at all. Blade is
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: so recognizable because of Wesley Snipes.
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: It's easy to do.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: And horror is huge now. So it's got so much crawl.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: I mean, it's 75% horror.
- 1:15:52Speaker 7: And then like a little superhero ish, but like, it's
- 1:15:54Speaker 7: mostly like.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: Those old ones were mostly just killing vampire movies. So
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: I'm like, that really plays more to horror fans, which
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: horror is broke through more than it ever has in
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: the last 10 years or so. It's way more mainstream
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: than it would have ever been even when those movies
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: were popular. So I'm like, That could work. If you
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: cast the right guy, that could work. The Moon Knight
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: one is the one where I'm like, you're going to
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: have to... I would do that one last. You got
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: to explain a lot because people do not know who
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: that character is. The thing with Ghost Rider is it
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: has such a huge fan base. It's hard to do
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: in a movie because it's silly. It's fun to illustrate
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: a guy on a motorcycle with super long chains and
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: a skull on fire. That's fun in a comic book,
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: but how are you going to make that look realistic
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: on screen? Sometimes you got to call it on those
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: because I've said that and maybe they will... changed my
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: mind somewhere down the line in the justice league world
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: but i'm like i don't know how you film green
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: lantern and not make it look silly yeah and i
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: had a stack of freaking green lantern comics i thought
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: he was cool he was one of the few dc
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: guys i got behind batman and green lantern and like
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: in the comics it's fun you draw these crazy things
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: and he makes On screen, it just looks silly. And
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: I'm just like, and I don't know. He does the
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: big baseballs mitts to catch somebody. You're going to be like, what?
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: And even on the old Super Friends stuff, that looks
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: fun animated. When you CG it, it's going to look ridiculous.
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: So it's like, and we saw that movie, Tank, for
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: a lot of reasons. But I think that's part of it.
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: I think people went in and went, wait, what? This
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: is silly looking. I think that's part of it.
- 1:17:22Speaker 7: Some things don't translate well. Or certainly don't translate easily.
- 1:17:26Speaker 7: So it's like that's kind of the Ghost Rider thing too.
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: Like it'll look cool on a t-shirt or a black
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: velvet poster. I definitely think they start off with Blade.
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: I would say Blade has to be the first one.
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: The door's already open for that to work. I think
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: everyone wants, I shouldn't say everyone, I think Blade fans
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: would be more than happy to get a Blade Netflix series.
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: I kind of thought he was coming back. Once he
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: got out of financial problems, I was like, the franchise
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: has still got fans. I'm like, he should have just
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: been like, I still look pretty damn good. He barely
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: looks like he's aged. I'm like, he should have just
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: come back and been like... Even if it wasn't Netflix,
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: I expected a straight-to-DVD movie because he needed cash. But again,
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: I think that casting is part, but we've got a
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: lot of really good young black actors right now, so
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: they would be really easy to cast. Man, the casting
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: for Black Panthers. That's what I'm saying.
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: Phenomenal.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: That movie... I'm so optimistic for a Black Panther movie.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: I think they're really, really good. Again, because I feel
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: like I've been saying it over and over, look up
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: the cast for the next Thor movie. Look up the
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: cast of the Doctor Strange movie. Look up the cast
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: of the Black Panther movie. You cannot say that at
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: least the industry does not respect comic book movies now.
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: They are fucking shelling out the money for actors.
- 1:18:44Speaker 8: It is money.
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: These aren't big people.
- 1:18:49Speaker 6: They are.
- 1:18:50Speaker 7: both it's like it's i it's being taken seriously enough
- 1:18:54Speaker 7: i can actually show up and give a real performance
- 1:18:56Speaker 7: i don't have to show up and ham it up
- 1:18:59Speaker 7: because you can michael fast bender it you can show
- 1:19:01Speaker 7: up and give a good dramatic performance in.
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: The middle of a movie where you're floating around with magnets.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: You know, I'm like, it seems like that should be
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: ridiculous that those two go together, but there's a couple
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: of really heavy scenes with him in the beginning. And
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: then he's flying around with magnets. So it's like, I'm like,
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: that shows.
- 1:19:20Speaker 7: That it can be done from the acting standpoint. At
- 1:19:22Speaker 7: the same time, they're like, it's a huge paycheck now.
- 1:19:26Speaker 7: And it will allow.
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: Me to do three little indie movies that I'm really
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: interested in. Right. Even if you're only half interested in
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: the genre, uh, Like, they know, like, this will bank
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: it so that I can do whatever I want to do,
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: maybe forever. It's almost just, you know, it's smart for
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: their career. It's almost like the Pellegrin of acting. It's like,
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: I'm going to do these movies. get the money I
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: need to get by. And now I'm going to do
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: all these things that I'm like really interested in off
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: to the side. That's the huge Jackman way. Think about
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: all the other weird stuff he's turned up in. Which
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: he wouldn't have been able to do if it wasn't.
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: There's no way. But you know, he's been able to
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: do casually because of the X-Men movies. The financial freedom
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: to be able to go, I want to make a
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: romantic comedy. And we all went, no, don't.
- 1:20:06Speaker 7: But yeah, I mean, he does that kind of thing.
- 1:20:09Speaker 7: And a lot of these actors do that where they're
- 1:20:11Speaker 7: just like, one for you guys, and three indie movies
- 1:20:15Speaker 7: that most people don't see for me because these are,
- 1:20:17Speaker 7: you know, and I like those movies usually. I'm usually
- 1:20:19Speaker 7: the one seeking those kind of movies out, so.
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: I fall on both sides of the fence, but I
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: kind of like that. Like, I like that it's allowing
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: people to turn in good performances in a superhero movie
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: and still be able to financially support themselves to the
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: point that they have artistic freedom to do whatever the
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: hell they want. Right, because it's like, you know, if
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: this were still the 90s, we'd have, like, John Leguzmo
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: as Magneto or something, you know, you'd have like people
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: that aren't terrible actors, but you know, it's like people
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: that you're not expecting the odd wow you. And now
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: we have people that can wow you like, you know,
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: I've definitely had emotional moments, you know, with the Marvel
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: movies and stuff like, yeah, I mean, they're, they're doing it.
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: They're bringing it home. Um, I would also mention, you know, again,
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: me going back to the whole promise, um, I think that, again,
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: they were setting the plot line with Quicksilver and Magneto.
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: The fact that he didn't seal the deal and go,
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: you're my dad! He didn't yell it out or something.
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: I was just going to get to that, because I
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: was like, we've gone through this entire discussion and haven't
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: mentioned Quicksilver, who I feel like kind of steals the movie.
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: He's so great. I love Evan Peters. He's killing it.
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: He brings so... Again, with the whole... You know, you
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: called him the Scooby gang. He fits right in with that.
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: Like all of them, they all play off each other.
- 1:21:33Speaker 8: Great.
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: I felt like they had great chemistry already. Snarky level.
- 1:21:37Speaker 7: Like he, but I thought it was maybe going to
- 1:21:39Speaker 7: go too far that first time. Cause we had him
- 1:21:41Speaker 7: just a little bit and I was like, is he
- 1:21:42Speaker 7: going to get annoying real quick? And like in this one,
- 1:21:44Speaker 7: he's got more screen. He kind of steps up like
- 1:21:47Speaker 7: of all the younger actors. he's the, and not that
- 1:21:49Speaker 7: they're really much different. That's what they were pointing out.
- 1:21:51Speaker 7: They're like, there's like, you know, Jennifer.
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: Lawrence is sitting in there talking about the old war stories,
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: me and the rest of the young kids. And like,
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: in actuality, there's six years between her and Jean Grey.
- 1:22:01Speaker 8: Wow.
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: So it's like, it's not really like for the older cast.
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: I mean, I guess the, I'm not always not much
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: older than them. I don't think at least Fassbender is
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: a little bit older. Well, this is what I think
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: is interesting though, but that part, um, or something that
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: I don't want to say was overlooked. I can't say
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: it's fact, but, I've heard a lot of, some complaints,
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: you know, about how quickly Magneto kind of becomes a
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: good guy again at the end. Like with no, no,
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: no see, no nothing. You know, he's literally in this
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: position to destroy the earth and is doing it, is
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: killing millions of people, you know, and just out of
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: nowhere next, you know, he's down there attacking Apocalypse.
- 1:22:39Speaker 7: It doesn't even show him like changing his mind or
- 1:22:41Speaker 7: struggling with it.
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: But I would make two points. One, I think the
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: comic argument would be that Up until... Magneto's main thing
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: is mutants over humans. Period. If you ever want to
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: question what Magneto's... What side of the line he would
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: be on something, it would be which one is better
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: for mutants. Period. Which is why he had no problem
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: destroying the world for Apocalypse. Especially in the moment of
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: rage and emotion, all this stuff he had going. I
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: think that was why Apocalypse didn't even really... Give him
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: a new power. He was like, no, you're good. I
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: got you. You're in the right place. But up until
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: that point in the movie, Apocalypse hadn't hurt a mutant.
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: And that's when... Mystique looking like Psylocke is getting choked,
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: that's when I think things... Because not only is it
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: a mutant, it's a mutant he has a close tie to.
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: At that point, it already snapped Quicksilver's leg. Yes, and
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: in addition, that's what made me wonder if maybe somewhere
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: in Magneto's head, he does kind of... He's doing the
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: math and going... Like, he can feel it. Like, is that...
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: About how many years ago did you say him? Like,
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: so yeah, maybe... And they already had that time in
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: Elevator before. If he's a smart guy, he might... Which
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: he seems like he is. At that point.
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: Like he knows the kind of guy he used to be.
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: And it seems like he got away from that in
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: these years, but like, I'm assuming he remembers the kind
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: of things he used to do. That can't be the
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: only time, especially since we know he had at least
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: another one running around out there. Not, maybe not in
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: this timeline. They really don't address the younger sister. They
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: mentioned that online. She was in the first movie and
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: then they just, she's all nowhere to be found in
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: this one. Well, and it was interesting how they, it,
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: I don't, I would have to at least say the
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: name Scarlet Witch. I'm not saying the little girl doing
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: all the stuff with the animals was Scarlet Witch, but
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: you did at least hint that, you know, yeah, his
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: offspring is usually powerful in their brains. So it was
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: almost like a slight nod to a Scarlet Witch thing there.
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: But no, I feel like, you know, again, with the
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: whole promise thing, like one in the future, you definitely
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: got that. You got the fact that at some point
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: Quicksilver is going to want to approach his dad and
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: have that you're my father moment. again, just more, all
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: this stuff that it's almost like they're going, you know,
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: as they're closing the door on the past going, Oh
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: my God, like we got all this stuff for you
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: in the future. Please understand. We couldn't wrap this up
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: with a bow tie in one movie very eloquently, but
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: I feel like they put more emphasis on the future. Like, yes,
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: this movie in itself, not going to be the greatest movie, but,
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: But again, I feel like the best metaphor is what
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: I said with the pan of dirt and gold. It's like,
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: but by the end, it's just gold in the tray.
- 1:25:21Speaker 7: It's knocking down the dominoes to the big impressive display
- 1:25:24Speaker 7: down the line.
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: I was out loud saying it in the theater. I
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: was like, I'm so stoked for the next movie. I
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: was like, they are completely setting up my favorite era. Dude,
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: shut up. Oh, no one got that stinger. In my theater,
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: no one got that stinger. They waited for it, and
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: it's like people sat there in denial as if there
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: was going to be another one. It was a weird
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: kind of getting up, and a lot of people were
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: still sitting there like, it's Mr. Sinister. You can get
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: up and go now. We're setting up Mr. Sinister.
- 1:25:59Speaker 7: Again, I think Quicksilver kind of proved himself in this
- 1:26:02Speaker 7: one before we totally get away from him.
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: He definitely... stepped up and became, again, I feel like he's.
- 1:26:09Speaker 7: One of the only ones that had enough screen time
- 1:26:12Speaker 7: and presence in that screen time that you do see like, oh,
- 1:26:15Speaker 7: he does kind of need to be an integral part
- 1:26:18Speaker 7: of this thing. He needs to be important in this,
- 1:26:20Speaker 7: in this little team that's coming together. And he's, at
- 1:26:23Speaker 7: least at that point, he kind of feels like a leader.
- 1:26:25Speaker 7: He's definitely over the other little kid versions, but.
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: The one thing I want to do, at least address,
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: and I had seen it mentioned online. I try not
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: to pay too much attention, but I wanted to see
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: at least what people were questioning. They do mention the
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: age thing, and it didn't bother me as much with
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: the other old cast members. But I'm like, Quicksilver was
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: supposed to be relatively young. So 10 years go by.
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: I think they're going to play up a metabolism thing
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: or something. There's something with the speed. He doesn't have
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: a speed force, but there's something with the speed in him.
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: I'm thinking that they're just going to be like, it
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: keeps them a bit younger. I mean, that's kind of
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: what I was thinking, but I'm like, are we playing
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: that with everybody?
- 1:27:03Speaker 7: Because it is funny. They do mention how pretty much
- 1:27:06Speaker 7: nobody is aged. And this is a 20-year span now
- 1:27:10Speaker 7: from the 60s to the 80s. And I'm like, they
- 1:27:13Speaker 7: all still look like they did five years ago when
- 1:27:15Speaker 7: they made that first movie.
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: I feel like they wanted Fassbender to look older just
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: by giving him scruff. It's like, just don't shave as much.
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: And it's like, you're going to make him look older.
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: I mean, he at least has age on him, so,
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: you know, a little bit more than the other two.
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: He's easier to hold his look in one. Which is fine,
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: because even in the comic, Magneto has white hair.
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: Young people forget. Like, under the helmet, it's all white.
- 1:27:35Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:27:35Speaker 5: It's all white.
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: He's an old dude. He can pull it off a
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: little bit, but, like, again, yeah, like, McAvoy still looks
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: really freaking young.
- 1:27:41Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: Jennifer Lawrence just looks like Jennifer Lawrence, because we all
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: see her all the time. But then I was like, L.
- 1:27:45Speaker 8: Beast.
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: Can I just call out the purple vinyl outfit we
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: put her in? Why did we.
- 1:27:50Speaker 6: Look.
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: I'm not trying to be all SJW, but man, they
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: found a way to show her boobs right off the bat.
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: When she goes in that club and like the purple
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: tight thing, the camera even starts right there and the
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: cleat even pans up. We know what sells tickets for, stupid.
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: She didn't, again, I don't know what's her acting quotas
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: or her in real life, but she looked put out.
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: I remember like, you know, kind of thing. It's like
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: her expression right now looks like she's going, I got
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: my tits out. Why are my tits out in this
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: X-Men movie? My tits are so out right now. Again,
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: she's probably... I mean, she's past that point. She doesn't
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: have to do that. She had to do that when
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: she was on the Bill Ingalls show or whatever the
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: hell that was. On the same thing. I'm surprised they
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: didn't deal with Sophie. But now she doesn't have to
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: do that. Sophie Turner was very covered up and treated
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: very respectfully. Which, I mean, again, they're working it into
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: the story. I was so glad... to see rose burn
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: come back and we didn't see her in her underwear
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: for no good right which i mean i had that
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: recently i was listening to a show where they specifically
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: pointed out that's the point in the first class movie
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: where they're like Okay, whatever. The fact that she just
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: leaves the house for the day and also happens to
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: be wearing perfectly matching and kind of like Playboy Bunny
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: caliber of underwear to go in and just immediately drop
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: your clothes and be like, yep, look at me. I'm like, well,
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: she was Rose Byrne. But I like that. It is
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: weird that they.
- 1:29:18Speaker 7: That's another one of those I feel like they gave
- 1:29:19Speaker 7: her nothing to do.
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: I like that she was back, but... I don't know
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: if it was just the memory wipe that did it,
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: but I feel like even in this, she's there all
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: the time. She's in every scene, but she really has
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: nothing to do. Well, and the problem is that from
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: what I remember, because again, I only watched a couple times,
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: but she had her memories back in the last movie.
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: I thought in Days of Future Past, she had some
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: of the memories back about the Cuban stuff. Because they
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: made it sound like, oh, she doesn't remember anything until
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: way back. And I was like, wait, I thought in
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: Days of Future Past, she... Still knew some stuff.
- 1:29:53Speaker 7: I'm going to have to re-watch it, which I just...
- 1:29:56Speaker 7: I'm going to be watching it, maybe today, because I
- 1:29:58Speaker 7: saw they just put out the Rogue cut.
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: Did you know this?
- 1:30:01Speaker 7: No, is there a director's cut kind of a thing? Yeah,
- 1:30:04Speaker 7: because they shot all that extra stuff with Rogue. That's
- 1:30:06Speaker 7: why she's like second.
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: Build or whatever, if you remember. She's built way higher
- 1:30:12Speaker 1: up than everybody else in the movie. Was she in
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: it that much more? I'm going to find out. I
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: guess we all are. Oh, cool. Yeah, I'll check that out.
- 1:30:18Speaker 7: Yeah, it just came out on Blu-ray DVD, so it's
- 1:30:21Speaker 7: like I guess we'll see how much extra footage they shot.
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: And it does have both options, so you don't have
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: to be committed. Because I was like, I don't know
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: if I want to watch this way forever. What if
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: it sucks? So you've got, you know, theatrical version and
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: this new rogue cut that also has the other alternate
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: stuff that they shot with her that I'm still not
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: sure why they took. I'm going to have to read
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: into the whole backstory on it because it's another one
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: of those things. I'm curious about the backstory on her
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: too because with the way she was treated in the movies,
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: I don't know if, what's her name? Jonah Paquin? Anna Paquin.
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: Anna Paquin. Anna Paquin. I don't know if it was
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: like she didn't want to do the movies, so she
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: was getting rode out. But going back to that third
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: movie where she didn't want her powers and she got
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: them removed the whole time, I'm just like, What is
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: going on with Rogue? They don't know what to do
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: with Rogue? Does she not want to be Rogue? What
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: is it wrong? What's going on with Rogue? You can't
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: get Rogue right at all. Maybe it's different in the comics.
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: Within the context of the movies, she has the worst
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: mutant powers ever. Basically, it's, I don't really have any
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: mutant powers of my own, but I will kill anyone
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: I touch. And again, that is why they ruin it.
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: So again, maybe, again with me being optimistic now about X-Men,
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: that's what really changed. In the movie, if I could
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: give anyone out there, anyone on the fence about seeing
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: this movie.
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: If you love X-Men or just really like X-Men and
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: have been kind of like, you know, underwhelmed with the
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: movies or anything like that, I would highly, highly, highly
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: recommend going to see this movie just because, again, of
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: what I think it's showing you they want to do now.
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: And with Rogue, what ruined Rogue in the past, other
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: than making her young and all that kind of weird stuff,
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: is that she has a darker line where she starts
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: off as a bad guy. She's kicking it with Magneto
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: and she touches, I forget who, Captain Marvel, Mr. Marvel.
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: She touches someone so long, she kills them and permanently
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: takes their power. In essence, what they made Apocalypse in
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: this movie, she could do, she could just touch someone
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: and when they're dead, she absorbs their power. So that's
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: why in the comics, She can fly and she's super
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: strong because the person she absorbed, that's what they had.
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: But at the same time, that's what broke her and
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: made her not do it anymore. She's like, I'm not
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: doing that anymore. And that's what made it interesting with
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: her and Gambit is Gambit's the dude that can kind
- 1:32:34Speaker 1: of touch her. She's a girl that still wants a
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: boyfriend and all that, but she can't touch people. And
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: Gambit's the dude that's like, you can touch me, Mona me.
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: That was the whole thing with them is like, I'll
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: be your boyfriend. That part was really interesting. But again,
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: it just made for the worst superhero ever.
- 1:32:48Speaker 7: So I like the fact that like she wants to
- 1:32:50Speaker 7: be a normal teenager and like I want to have
- 1:32:52Speaker 7: a boyfriend.
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: I want to be around people. But why do we
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: need that in a movie? It just seems like as
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: an editor, why? Because she didn't matter in the end.
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: And not that I even want to debate X3 because
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: the whole movie was bad. But why even put those
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: scenes in of going, oh, this is why she's not here.
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: Let's give you 20 minutes of why she's not here.
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: Are we talking X3 or the.
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: X3.
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: I was going to say X3. I don't know why
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: she's not there too. Yeah, I want to see it
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: and see what... But I would argue maybe then, you know,
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: if they chose to cut her out, maybe they want
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: you to forget her so that when we reintroduce her... Again,
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: if you do a trilogy going forward with these next ones...
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: Maybe so. And you take your time and have Dark
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: Phoenix be the overarching story, you could have a movie
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: showing Rogue as a bad person... Killing someone, absorbing their power,
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: having that, oh my gosh, what am I doing, and
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: joining the X-Men. You can do that. And it's also
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: obvious that you're not the only one that hates X3. Granted, overall,
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: most people hate it. But I think it's so blatantly
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: obvious how much Bryan Singer, I mean, the bitterness of
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: that Jedi scene. I'm just like. Dude, you already totally
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: wiped out his movie in your last timeline. That, to me,
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: was the big F you. There's the middle finger to Brian's...
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: What the fuck's that dude's name? The Scourge of Humanity
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: that directed that movie. Oh, God, I don't... I try
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: to forget that whole thing. Everything about it. But no,
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: everybody hated that movie so much, they hate the director
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: for doing it, so the fact that he already came
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: in and was like, okay, I made the first two.
- 1:34:31Speaker 7: Somehow it got handed over to you. You messed up
- 1:34:33Speaker 7: my movie. I came back in the, again, he didn't
- 1:34:37Speaker 7: even direct first class. So the first movie back in,
- 1:34:39Speaker 7: he goes out of his way to create the plot.
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: Granted, it was the comic too, but he came in
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: specifically on the movie that wiped out that third movie
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: in the continuity. So I'm like, that's the big F you. Like,
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: that's already, like, you've done it. You've nailed it. You've
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: stuck the landing. And he did it classy, though. I
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: would say he did it classy, because going back to
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: what I was trying to hint at earlier. No, he
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: did it classy last time. This time was just like, okay,
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: you're beating the dead.
- 1:35:03Speaker 7: I mean, the Jedi scene of them talking about how, well,
- 1:35:06Speaker 7: the third movie is always the worst.
- 1:35:08Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah. Oh, no.
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: Yeah, that was great. I'm like, okay. Well, in fact,
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: they took that shot at themselves for how old the
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: actors are. Like when Cyclops is in the classroom and
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: he's blinking and the guy's like, dude, you're looking at
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: my girl and he's like, girl, you look old enough
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: to be her dad. I'm like, wow, you were taking
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: all kinds of shots at the rest of these kids
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: in high school. And again, that's where I feel like
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: this is putting the past in the past. It's going,
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: look guys, we had an approach to X-Men that may
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: have been stuck with for too long. We get it now.
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: I'm not saying like, They learned on their own. If
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: nothing else, they saw Marvel and they're like, we got
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: to change our fucking philosophy on this. We can't keep
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: hammering in these old actors playing their parts and making
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: the movies revolve around them. We got to get a
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: staff that can go 10, 15 years, plot lines that
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: go 10, 15 years. We have to know what we're
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: doing before the movies come out. I think they at
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: least went from first class on, like they had a
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: basic overview of It may have gotten handed awful, but
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: I think since it got back to Bryan Singer, they're
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: just like, yeah, that's... Brett Ratner, for fuck's sake. I
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: told you it was in there. Scourge of humanity, Brett Ratner.
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: So also, again, on Bryan Singer then, I would say... Well,
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: I would bring up again, back during the first X-Men movies,
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: I've read an interview... Where he was going on and
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: on and on about how Dark Phoenix is his favorite
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: X-Men saga, period. And that's what he wanted to do
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: with those first three. He's like, that was my favorite saga.
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: And having seen how the third one tanked and how
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: they ruined it, I think that, you know, again, this
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: is all kind of like in retrospect now, in hindsight,
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: I think when he was writing First Class and then
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: hopped on board for Days of Future Past, it was like,
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: let's clean the slate.
- 1:37:03Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: But we need people to get excited again, so let's
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: make good movies that retcon, which is what comics always
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: do all the time. He retconned. It's our first retcon
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: on screen. He retconned to X-Men. He found a legit way.
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: And we're getting our new day one in the next movie.
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: It wasn't like a redo. We're going to do this
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: all different now. It wasn't a hard redo. It was like, no,
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: it happened. This little loophole is going to fix all
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: these problems that you and I both had. Cherry picked
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: plots out of the X-Men mythos to establish this do-over.
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: And like I said, I'm on board now. And I wasn't.
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: Before this movie, I thought I was going to go in,
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: see a movie that was... pretty but not very good
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: it was pretty and fun i wouldn't say it's still
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: good but it was fun and i i noticed that
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: can feel like opposite still to go well it wasn't
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: good it was fun it's like you know what is
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: it a bad b movie it's like i'm not even
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: saying that i just think that i just i don't
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: know any other word and to say that like it
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: feels like a promise for the future it feels like
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: these kind of interactions these this chemistry that these characters
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: already have you know these these new looks, it's just,
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: it's so exciting. I feel like this was the origin
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: story for the X-Men. Because every origin movie is usually
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: pretty meh. And so this was a meh movie, but
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: it's the origin movie. And now you know. In the
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: next one it's on. It's laying the groundwork. That we
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: need it laid. So we can get rolling with everything
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: that the fans want. And that I'm assuming Singer. Or
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: whoever he's going to. If he's going to keep doing it.
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: I don't know. But I think it's where they at
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: least want the road map to go. I know that
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: he's pretty much still. He wants to do it all. Well,
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: he's not confirmed to direct the next one, but somehow
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: he was able to confirm that the next one is
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: in the 90s.
- 1:38:56Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: Which seems weird to me. How do you know it's
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: in the 90s if you're not fucking involved? I'm sure
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: he's at least going to be producer or writer or something.
- 1:39:02Speaker 6: On all of these.
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: I can't imagine that with... I bet that dude is
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: like walking with wood right now. Like he has to
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: be so excited that he's.
- 1:39:10Speaker 8: Going to get.
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: Let's leave that alone. He has his own issues in
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: that area. I've left that alone the whole episode. He's
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: going to do... the dark phoenix saga he wanted to
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: do originally and he's gonna do it now in an
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: environment that's so much more accepting and excited.
- 1:39:24Speaker 7: For it and technically he can do it like that
- 1:39:26Speaker 7: was the problem with that first movie is like they
- 1:39:29Speaker 7: didn't even know how to do the special effects for
- 1:39:31Speaker 7: the stuff they wanted to do the second one gets
- 1:39:34Speaker 7: a little better but like it wasn't really until we
- 1:39:36Speaker 7: get to that like post spider-man and even then they
- 1:39:40Speaker 7: had issues so it's like as you get to like
- 1:39:41Speaker 7: the avengers now like Finally, you can do pretty much
- 1:39:45Speaker 7: whatever you want to do. If you've got the budget
- 1:39:47Speaker 7: behind it, you can make it look pretty damn good.
- 1:39:49Speaker 7: So now that he gets a chance to do something that.
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: Big with that kind of budget behind it, it's going
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: to be pretty impressive. Or can be, at least. Here's
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: something I'm a little, again, as a geek, kind of
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: conflicted on. You know, again... being so satisfied with Marvel
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: movies and being so satisfied with what we've seen in Spider-Man,
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: even though it's not fair to say they nailed it
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: because he hasn't had his movie yet, but getting that 10,
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: 15 minutes, being so excited about that, there's a part
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: of me that, you know, always was like, you know,
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: I don't care about the X-Men when Marvel get it back.
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: And so I'm kind of on the fence now because
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: I feel like, you know, there was a sort of
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: oath made with this movie about going forward that I
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: kind of want to get, I want to give Bryan
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: Singer another chance now. I actually, I, Like, everything from
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: the past, I'm just like, no, I want to give
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: him a chance now. But at the same time, I'm
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: kind of conflicted because it's like, it's still in the
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: 40s on Rotten Tomato. And as you said, it's number one,
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: but it wasn't a strong number one. There is a
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: part of me that can see a future also where
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: the movie does not make the execs happy. And they
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: consider doing the Marvel route with the X-Men also and going, Marvel,
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: we'll finance it, but make it. And I wouldn't be
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: offended with that either because of the way they have
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: it set up. I'm like, I don't care if it's
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: Marvel or Singer, as long as it's only those. Just
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: don't bring in a new director that might try to
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: get things changed. That's what worries me. Singer or Marvel?
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: I can see them trying to hand it off if
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: they don't like where he goes with this next one
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: or so. But I can see, again, because the Marvel
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: Universe is making so much money, I wonder, this would
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: be a legal nightmare, what if Fox eventually goes, okay,
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: what if we approach them and be like, hey, do
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: you want to do a crossover? Do you guys want
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: to tie these together? Do you want to work? I'm like,
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: I think that would be a lawyer. Tricky. A multitude
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: of lawyers would have to be involved. I think it
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: would be Fox doing it because.
- 1:41:45Speaker 7: Fox would be the one looking at Marvel going, they
- 1:41:47Speaker 7: are writing the checks. They're getting whatever they want.
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: From what I'm seeing, that's how Spider-Man worked, which shocked me.
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. They're going to write the checks,
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: but Marvel's going to do the actual making.
- 1:41:57Speaker 7: Sony fell on hard times. Sony used to be the
- 1:42:02Speaker 7: biggest company in the world, and then they weren't. If
- 1:42:05Speaker 7: Fox hits a point where they're just like, You know,
- 1:42:07Speaker 7: we kind of could use some money. You know how
- 1:42:09Speaker 7: much money we can make if we just like, even
- 1:42:11Speaker 7: if they didn't totally sell it off to them, if
- 1:42:13Speaker 7: they just like allowed them to use it, some sort
- 1:42:16Speaker 7: of crossover, we get a cut of the profits. That's
- 1:42:19Speaker 7: a huge amount of money that they might be willing
- 1:42:22Speaker 7: to consider. It might, it might take this next movie
- 1:42:24Speaker 7: not doing well though. I mean, it might be one
- 1:42:26Speaker 7: of those kinds.
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: Of things, but I don't know. I'm scared at this
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: point a little in a sense that I don't want
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: neither to happen. Like I want, I want it to
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: go well. Right. I don't think it's going to make
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: enough money that they're going to call it a success
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: or be happy. I'm sure they won't lose money on it,
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: but maybe it's going to be that thing of like,
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: you didn't make a billion. And I can make that
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: argument because it's like, I liked Avengers a lot. I
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: love these Avenger movies, but if the movies didn't exist,
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: if we were back at a point where no comic
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: book movie was out and you asked me, what is
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: your favorite Individually, Spider-Man, what was your favorite comic book? X-Men.
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: I was an X-Men kid. So for me to fall
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: in love with Avengers so much from what they did
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: with the movies, I have the capacity to almost be
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: twice that if they can do it with the X-Men.
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: If you can nail the X-Men, which is why if
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: it goes back to Marvel, cool, they're going to do
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: it right. But if not, like I said, at this point,
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: I feel like brian singer in my head is almost
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: working for marvel i feel like you have their mentality
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: you get it you are starting to find that balance.
- 1:43:39Speaker 7: And he wants to stay true to what he grew
- 1:43:41Speaker 7: up loving so at least he's invested in it personally
- 1:43:45Speaker 7: even if the business deal falls on a different side
- 1:43:47Speaker 7: of the line i think he's personally so invested and
- 1:43:51Speaker 7: has been for 20 years now that like it's yeah
- 1:43:54Speaker 7: it's it's a big enough deal that i I would
- 1:43:56Speaker 7: hope he's going to want to have the best interest
- 1:43:59Speaker 7: of the story and the characters at heart.
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: Before worried about finances. Not that he needs to redeem
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: himself to anybody. I'm just some jack off. Artistically speaking.
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: In Indiana. Personally, I don't know anything about him. I
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: feel like he would absolutely redeem himself if he came
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: in and did this and be like, no, we get it.
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: It was the times. In the 90s, you couldn't do
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: this with comic books. Now you can. Now you have
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: so many more resources. It'd be like, as an artist,
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: if you had paper and chalk, and now someone over
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: here is like, look at oil paints. Look at all
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: these colors. You can use colors. And I feel like
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: that's what it is now. He's like, oh my gosh,
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: all the things I can do now, and all the
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: freedoms he will be given now, and all the allowances
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: he will be given now, that I'm sure he had
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: to pull teeth to get that first X-Men movie done.
- 1:44:50Speaker 2: It's a whole new.
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: World compared to that first X-Men. I mean, literally in
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: the artistic, in the movie and all.
- 1:44:56Speaker 7: Of it, it looks like it's just a different world,
- 1:44:58Speaker 7: different audience than you would have ever found.
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: Different era, different technology. Yeah. I mean, just. It's going
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: to be interesting to see where we go. I'm excited.
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: Really excited. Optimistic. Side note. I did want to point
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: out possibly the most interesting and realistic scene involving Jennifer
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: Lawrence is where she meets the beast guy.
- 1:45:23Speaker 7: What is his name nicholas howt or whatever however you
- 1:45:26Speaker 7: say his last name only because again if you cross
- 1:45:30Speaker 7: over into the real world knowing that they dated they
- 1:45:33Speaker 7: met on that first movie they dated like on and
- 1:45:36Speaker 7: off for like four years really but it's been over for.
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: A while so that scene with them seems real genuine
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: when he's like oh you're here didn't expect to see
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: you here so i guess you're Like, it's so awkward.
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: And I'm like, I feel like that wasn't acting. Well,
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: Beast was really awkward in general to me. Yeah. I mean,
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: he kind of is. Like, it works for him. But
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: he did seem a little more like... disconnected from what
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: was going on, then, like, especially, like, Days of Future
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: Past is so tied together.
- 1:46:07Speaker 6: Well, they made him.
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: I feel like they made him extra dopey. Like, he's
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: super smart.
- 1:46:10Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: But I feel like they kind of went, like, nerd
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: route with him. Because, like, it seemed like... He's smart,
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: but socially awkward. Even with it being the 80s.
- 1:46:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: Just even the way he dressed. It was like... you're
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: dressed like a square. Well, you know what I mean?
- 1:46:22Speaker 1: Like you, he always was a square, but I agree.
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: He seems a little, he seemed like teacher's pet, like
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: just the way he is with professor. They have some
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: great back and forth though. Well, they always do like that.
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: Like they're going down the hallway, you know, when they
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: were like going into the FBI building and stuff and
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: they had to, they had some great back and forth.
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: Their relationship through these whole three movies is kind of
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: like one of the things that carries it and makes it,
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: fluid because we kind of jump so much from one
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: to two to three that I'm like the few things
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: that are so good that carry it is that little
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: dynamic between the two of them. Obviously between Magneto and
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: Professor X too but like that's way more black and
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: white and you know huge drama. It's the fun stuff
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: between those two that kind of carries it through and
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: so yeah I think he does a great job with
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: it but he did feel a little disconnected I feel
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: like from the rest of the crew really. He felt
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: like he was purposely being kind of Which, again... Segregated. Like,
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: he was at the adults' table, and this was the.
- 1:47:19Speaker 2: Kids' table.
- 1:47:19Speaker 7: It was the same thing with the Jennifer Lawrence, and
- 1:47:21Speaker 7: maybe that is part of it. Maybe they really are
- 1:47:23Speaker 7: trying to kind of.
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: Phase that era out and hand the torch over and
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: be like, you guys are in. I mean, how great, again,
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: you know, with the Scooby gang, Nightcrawler and them going
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: to the mall. Like, Nightcrawler in general was awesome. He
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: was so funny and great. I don't know who that actor...
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: I'm going to have to look at... I love him already.
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: He's pretty fun.
- 1:47:38Speaker 7: But, I mean, that's the main thing to live up to, though,
- 1:47:42Speaker 7: because that's what makes x2 like that performance.
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: Is so good i played night crawling out was so
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: awesome i mean he's good anyway but like that to
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: me that's his role like i see him in other
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: stuff and he's always fun but i'm like he's so
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: damn good in x2 like it makes that movie for
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: me it's the whole nightcrawler character and it's a he's
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: definitely a favorite like even if you don't read the
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: nightcrawler comic you love it when nightcrawler shows up it's
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: like oh my god nightcrawler is so cool And they
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: gave him much respect in X2. Yeah. I'm just goosebumps.
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: I'm so excited going forward. Like seeing Gene. Grey looking
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: like Jean Grey, establishing that beginning relationship with Scott. Scott
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: shooting lasers everywhere and getting his visor. Nightcrawler bouncing around,
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: being a socially awkward geeky kid. Jubilee looking like Jubilee Storm,
- 1:48:36Speaker 1: even though she's over here, looking badass as Storm. Looking badass.
- 1:48:40Speaker 7: And and showing promise that she can come in and
- 1:48:42Speaker 7: be badass as part of the team.
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: Too so in fact they took her in so she's
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: she's there she's there she's.
- 1:48:48Speaker 7: Part of the team so and and getting to fully
- 1:48:51Speaker 7: realize quicksilver like i think this is what it's all
- 1:48:53Speaker 7: going to come down to is watching all this.
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: Jail it almost feels like the end of winter soldier
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: when they were showing you the new avengers it felt
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: exactly like oh my god here we go like this
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: is the next movie and i'm on board I am
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: so on board like can we have this movie tomorrow
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: please because a couple years off yeah I just at
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: this point mentally I think I think the best way
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: to process this I mean if you love them you
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: love them but if you're on the fence or maybe
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: you don't like them a little I think the best
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: way to process this is to just think of these
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: last three as a great big origin story for the
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: X-Men that they really want to give you and that
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: we really want I think that's what's coming together I'm
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: assuming they planned it all, but if not these last
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: couple of movies, they've planned it enough that it's seemingly
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: coming to that. So it'll be interesting to see if
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: that actually happens as we move forward. It was a
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: lot of green screen. Well, I guess on the production end.
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: I hope they'll do more practical stuff in the future,
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: but there was a lot of... As fun as it
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: was to watch, so much of that stuff looked flat
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: at the end. So many flat scenes.
- 1:50:00Speaker 7: It's hard to be more practical stuff as the stories
- 1:50:04Speaker 7: get not only bigger, but more interstellar based that I
- 1:50:08Speaker 7: think we're going to get that a lot from here
- 1:50:09Speaker 7: on out.
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: They need better choreography. It's like, I think it breaks
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: down to the choreography. Cause it's like almost every action
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: scene at the end would be like a shot of
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: somebody shooting a projectile and a shot of somebody getting
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: hit by projectile, a shot of someone throwing an object,
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: a shot of someone getting hit. You know what? It
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: wasn't fluid. It wasn't in one shot. It was always
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: done in this way, like, I'm throwing this at you.
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: And then it's like, look, I'm getting hit by the
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: thing you threw at me.
- 1:50:35Speaker 7: That's the difference, again, looking at the battle scenes in
- 1:50:38Speaker 7: Avengers are phenomenal.
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: The choreography is fully thought out.
- 1:50:41Speaker 7: Watching Joss do that stuff is amazing.
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: It's like a dance routine if you do it on Avengers.
- 1:50:47Speaker 1: It's not bad, but it's pretty basic stuff compared to Avengers.
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: X-Men movie was posing.
- 1:50:52Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: You know, their fights are posing. Like, you know, Angel, like, blah,
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: throw my arms out. You know, we're going to put
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: in the wings and all the blades later. You know,
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: Avengers are like, no, we need you to jump on
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: this person, kick, flip, roll. Like, Avengers, you're doing that shit.
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: X-Men so far has been pose. And it can work.
- 1:51:11Speaker 8: It doesn't.
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: It's got potential. I don't need high choreography to be
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: a good fight, but. I think when there's a green
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: screen behind you also, I think then it really starts
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: to feel like a slideshow. You know, you just feel
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: like a frame's dropping in, and it's like, come on, guys,
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: keep it fluid.
- 1:51:31Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: I think we've hit many a point, so I think
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: we better... Optimism. That would be my main point. The promise.
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: I'm not saying this movie is great, And I'm not
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: going to say it's bad. For me, it was fun.
- 1:51:49Speaker 6: It is.
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: Just fun. I smiled.
- 1:51:50Speaker 8: It's fun.
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: It's entertaining. And I came out very, very, very optimistic
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: about the future. And I didn't expect any of that.
- 1:51:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: I kind of, again, I think it's got a dragging
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: its feet part in the middle. Third-ish. But yeah, once
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: we blow up the school and the Scooby gang kicks in,
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: it's like, I think it's really fun from that point on.
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: And Oscar Isaac did what he could. Like, again, I
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: feel like his character doesn't have much to do. But
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: I think his performance was pretty good. He sounded great.
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: He has a great voice.
- 1:52:20Speaker 7: He's got delivery that I wasn't sure. Again, it seemed
- 1:52:24Speaker 7: like odd casting when they announced him. So I was
- 1:52:27Speaker 7: kind of glad to at least see him.
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: Step up and do a good performance. It's just that's
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: hard to do that character, especially the way it was written.
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: Nothing was his fault. The costume was arguably meh. When
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: he was doing the big... proses and stuff. Like I said,
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: his voice is great. It was there, you know, and
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: you tried to incorporate his history, but you know, it's just,
- 1:52:51Speaker 1: like I said, I feel like it was a bit Ultron.
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: It was like, you needed a bad guy to get
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: through this movie so we could set up the next one.
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: You know, so we didn't go all in. We went
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: halfway on Apocalypse. And if that's a deal breaker for you,
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: then know that ahead of time, they only went halfway.
- 1:53:04Speaker 1: But If you love 90s era X-Men, I would definitely
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: say be happy. It's coming. It's finally coming. It's more promising.
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: So that's what we've taken from this.
- 1:53:19Speaker 6: All right.
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: I'm sure. I mean, I'll be back next week regardless.
- 1:53:23Speaker 7: You're welcome to join me. If not, I'm sure you're
- 1:53:27Speaker 7: going to join us for Suicide Squad.
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: Oh, my God. Should we even mention it right now
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: or just stay quiet? Because that new trailer has me.
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: He's already getting all hyped. so geek they finally showed
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: did you get the suicide squad put it like this
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: there was a new suicide squad trailer for this movie
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: did you get that i did did you notice that
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: batman is finally in the trailer in there we also
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: get a shot of her with the hammer which i
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: thought was pretty fun because i didn't know that they
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: were going there so i'm i said it a million
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: times already but i'm like Doubling, tripling down. Suicide Squad
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: is going to destroy Batman vs. Superman. It's going to
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: destroy it. I'm not going to say a billion, but
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: I'm saying 900. 900 million. I think it'll do well.
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: It will probably do better than Apocalypse did. Yeah, it'll
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: beat X-Men too. It will beat X-Men also. So, mark
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: your calendar now. Both you at home and you better
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: get yourself here so you can rant on it. Can't wait.
- 1:54:27Speaker 8: Alright. Alright.
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: Otherwise, thank you for joining us. We will return next time.
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: Same Geek Feed.
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: Thanks for listening.

- 1:55:02Speaker 9: to be abused.
- 1:55:05Speaker 3: Sweet dreams are made of thee.

- 1:56:15Speaker 6: To abuse you.
- 1:56:17Speaker 9: Some of them.
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: Want to be abused by you Some of them.
- 1:56:22Speaker 9: Want to abuse you Some of them want to be abused.
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: The world and the seven seas.
- 1:56:51Speaker 3: Everybody's looking for something Sweet dreams are made of this

- 1:57:12Speaker 3: of this.
- 1:57:13Speaker 9: Who am I to disagree?
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: I'd travel the world and the seven seas.
- 1:57:22Speaker 9: Everybody's looking for something.
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: But to go, I won't do this. You know what
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: I'm saying? And to define yourself by what you won't.
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: I won't kill, but I don't wear shirts that say,
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: I don't murder. You know, it's like, yeah, well. You're
