- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn French with Fexingo, Episode 140. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. So last episode we bought baguettes at the bakery. Today, we're going back for croissants. Lucas: Exactly. Let's start with the key phrase: Je voudrais un croissant. That means 'I would like a croissant.' Luna: Je voudrais un croissant. Can you say it slowly? Lucas: Je voudrais un croissant. Repeat after me: Je voudrais un croissant. Luna: Je voudrais un croissant. That's a mouthful but I think I got it. Lucas: You did. Now, if you want more than one, you say: Je voudrais deux croissants. But let's stick with one for now. Luna: Okay. So I walk in, I say 'Je voudrais un croissant.' Then what? Lucas: The baker might ask: Et avec ça? That means 'And with that?' or 'Anything else?' Luna: Et avec ça? So if I only want the croissant, I say 'Non, merci.' Lucas: Right. Or you can say 'Je les prends.' That means 'I'll take them.' But if it's just one, you say 'Je le prends.' Luna: Je les prends for multiple, Je le prends for one. Got it. Lucas: Good. Then the baker will tell you the price. And finally, you can say: À emporter. That means 'to take away.' Luna: À emporter. So I'm getting it to go. And then I pay and say 'Merci, bonne journée.' Lucas: Exactly. Let's practice a full conversation. I'll be the baker. You be the customer. Luna: Okay. Je voudrais un croissant. Lucas: Et avec ça? Luna: Non, merci. Je le prends. Lucas: Ça fait un euro. Luna: À emporter. Merci, bonne journée. Lucas: Perfect. You sounded like a local.
