Quantum Error Correction
How can a quantum computer correct an error without simply copying or reading out its quantum state? The episode builds from qubits and decoherence to stabilizer codes, fault-tolerance thresholds and the surface code. It then follows the race to decode errors, manage overhead and implement correction across different hardware approaches. The aim is to connect the mathematics of error correction to the engineering challenge of producing dependable logical qubits.
