Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Ryan Bridge: Have we lost our Kiwi sense of humour?
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Complaints, backlash, outrage, divisive, sad, strong reaction to the twoey
- 0:06Speaker 1: billboards poking fun at old polky and not guilty of
- 0:10Speaker 1: killing his wife. By the way the billboards read, if
- 0:13Speaker 1: you haven't seen them back to being a respectable meth smoking,
- 0:16Speaker 1: sex worker loving doctor, then you're right quite good. It's
- 0:22Speaker 1: not breaking any rules, and I say good on them
- 0:24Speaker 1: for getting back to this. We need good humor to.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Cut through the crap that our society seems to be.
- 0:31Speaker 2: That seems to proliferate our society at the moment. Kiwi's
- 0:34Speaker 2: are straight talkers. We love taking the mickey out of people.
- 0:37Speaker 2: We're not mean generally, we are fair, and I think
- 0:40Speaker 2: we've lost our ability to laugh together. And these billboards,
- 0:44Speaker 2: while pitched by some as divisive, I think will actually
- 0:48Speaker 2: do the opposite. They should bring us closer together. And
- 0:52Speaker 2: I was hardened to hear the dB marketing director Fraser
- 0:55Speaker 2: Shrimpton's statement which he gave to the papers. He said,
- 0:59Speaker 2: we haven't set out to offend anyone. We are happy
- 1:02Speaker 2: to push the boundaries and say the things that we've
- 1:06Speaker 2: all been thinking.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Great. We need to talk about how we really feel,
- 1:11Speaker 3: because when we share it especially with humor. We connect
- 1:15Speaker 3: with one another as a society, don't we. We grow
- 1:17Speaker 3: closer together, we are less divided. So long may the
- 1:21Speaker 3: Twoy billboards last.
