A Birmingham police officer shot and killed Matthew Sean Massey during a high-stakes chase near UAB after a McDonald’s security guard reported an assault. Massey fled, prompting the officer to pursue him into a parking deck, where a Taser was deployed before the officer fired after Massey allegedly grabbed the device. No one else was harmed, and the officer — a seven-year veteran — is on administrative leave as the Homicide Division investigates; body cam footage will be released once the probe is complete.
