A confirmed tornado slammed into Atlantic Beach on Long Island Thursday night, tearing through two surf clubs and leaving behind damaged cabanas and buildings — all while officials scrambled to assess the aftermath. Though waterspouts aren’t unheard of off Long Island’s coast, this one made landfall and intensified into a full tornado — a rare but not unprecedented event. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
