Speaker 5: midday show we do with thirteen News in Tonight Live
• 2:13
Speaker 5: anchor Amanda Baron and myself, powered by Selango Law. During
• 2:17
Speaker 5: the month of April, we've been telling you the stories
• 2:19
Speaker 5: of people whose lives were literally saved by organ transplants.
• 2:23
Speaker 5: Told you last week the story of a lady by
• 2:25
Speaker 5: the name of Vicky Keen, lady from right here in Charleston,
• 2:29
Speaker 5: who was a recipient of a double lung transplant. And
• 2:32
Speaker 5: I'll be honest with you, I was so inspired by
• 2:35
Speaker 5: her that I invited her to be on the local
• 2:37
Speaker 5: show and she joins us this morning in the Jered
• 2:39
Speaker 5: Construction studios. Good morning, Good morning, welcome back, Thank you.
• 2:43
Speaker 5: I loved your story last week. We told your story
• 2:45
Speaker 5: statewide last week and I told you you were leaving.
• 2:48
Speaker 5: I said, we need to have you back on the
• 2:50
Speaker 5: local show to tell the story because you are from
• 2:53
Speaker 5: right here in Charleston, though you're pretty well known in
• 2:56
Speaker 5: the community. Talk before we talk about the transplant story,
• 3:00
Speaker 5: talk about Vickie. Tell us about you.
• 3:02
Speaker 6: Before I received my transplant, I worked for West Virginia
• 3:06
Speaker 6: West Virginia Junior College in high school missions. And then
• 3:10
Speaker 6: I got early really sick and I ended up having
• 3:15
Speaker 6: to have a double lung transplant. I was sick for
• 3:18
Speaker 6: like ten years, and it took me ten years to
• 3:22
Speaker 6: get my lungs because you have to be at a
• 3:25
Speaker 6: certain stage in your illness to be able to have
• 3:29
  Speaker 6: a lung transplant.
• 3:31
Speaker 5: And as you told us the story last week, you
• 3:36
Speaker 5: started tell us about the onset of the illness. How
• 3:40
Speaker 5: did you know that something's not right here? Or were
• 3:42
Speaker 5: you diagnosed by your doctor or how did you first
• 3:45
  Speaker 5: find out?
• 3:45
Speaker 6: Well, I was diagnosed by my doctor, but I did
• 3:47
Speaker 6: notice a lot of changes. I was an advocate walker,
• 3:51
Speaker 6: walking five to six miles a day, and all at once,
• 3:56
Speaker 6: just I would start swelling when I walked. So when
• 3:58
Speaker 6: I went to the doctor to see what was going on,
• 4:01
Speaker 6: my oxygen levels were really low, and so they sent
• 4:04
Speaker 6: me through all kinds of tests and they told me
• 4:08
Speaker 6: that I needed a new paraalungs.
• 4:11
Speaker 5: Talk about that feeling when you got that, Oh.
• 4:14
Speaker 7: Jesus, well, you know what.
• 4:18
Speaker 6: As time went on the diagnosis, I always feel that
• 4:21
Speaker 6: everything happens for a reason, and maybe my reason was
• 4:26
Speaker 6: to be able to talk to minorities about transplants because
• 4:31
Speaker 6: I'm really an advocate for it because there's not enough
• 4:37
Speaker 6: African Americans or minorities that.
• 4:41
  Speaker 7: Are organ donors.
• 4:42
Speaker 5: What are the numbers?
• 4:44
Speaker 6: Okay, eighteen percent African Americans. The rest of the minorities
• 4:47
Speaker 6: are made up of other minorities.
• 4:49
Speaker 5: Why do you think that is?
• 4:51
Speaker 6: I think it's from the old myths about organ donations.
• 4:54
Speaker 6: I know, growing up, I can remember my grandparents talking
• 4:57
Speaker 6: about things like that and how it right and it
• 5:01
Speaker 6: shouldn't be done because they mutilate the body of the donor.
• 5:06
Speaker 7: That is so false.
• 5:09
Speaker 6: They take care, take better care of the body my
• 5:14
Speaker 6: donor than me because they have to give that donor
• 5:21
Speaker 6: and the donor family the emotional support, right, Yeah, and
• 5:29
Speaker 6: before they will release their loved one.
• 5:31
Speaker 5: What was your thought preciss you personally about organ donations,
• 5:35
Speaker 5: because you said you know that coming out of the
• 5:38
Speaker 5: minority community that it was in some cases. The numbers
• 5:41
Speaker 5: obviously were very low eighteen percent or so in the
• 5:43
Speaker 5: African American community personally, What was your thought before you
• 5:46
Speaker 5: got your diagnosis about organ transplant.
• 5:49
Speaker 7: I've been an organ It's been on my license since I.
• 5:52
Speaker 5: Was sixty Okay, so you're all four.
• 5:54
Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm all for organ transplant. My children are donors,
• 5:58
Speaker 6: my family members are are you know, have their story
• 6:01
Speaker 6: on their car to be a donor. And I feel
• 6:05
Speaker 6: that all African Americans, you know, you hear people say
• 6:09
Speaker 6: I'm gonna take everything God gave me with me. How
• 6:12
Speaker 6: selfish of you. God healed people, He made us in
• 6:18
Speaker 6: his image, so that means our organs can heal other people.
• 6:23
Speaker 6: But people I feel her selfish or don't know the
• 6:28
Speaker 6: history of organ donations for minorities. Minorities are the ones
• 6:35
Speaker 6: who need the most donations, the most donors because we're
• 6:40
Speaker 6: talking liver, kidney, high blood pressure, all those things for
• 6:45
Speaker 6: African Americans make them may make them in the future
• 6:50
Speaker 6: need a transplant, So we are the ones that need
• 6:54
Speaker 6: the Don't get me wrong, you can get your transplant
• 6:57
Speaker 6: from any minority, but as well common sense tells you,
• 7:01
Speaker 6: as well as the doctors tell you. I mine was
• 7:05
Speaker 6: better coming from an African American or another minority because
• 7:10
Speaker 6: of the genetics. The healing process is easier because I
• 7:14
  Speaker 6: am African American, so I don't hell, I don't heal
• 7:19
Speaker 6: as easy giving my organs from a Caucasian or someone
• 7:27
Speaker 6: other than my nationality or minority.
• 7:30
Speaker 5: All right, so you're we're told that you're going to
• 7:34
Speaker 5: have to have a lung transplant, and you're on the
• 7:36
Speaker 5: waiting list for how long? Again?
• 7:38
Speaker 6: From two thousand and eleven until twenty twenty. I received
• 7:45
Speaker 6: my transplant right in the middle COVID. That shows you
• 7:49
Speaker 6: how good God is. It was right in the middle
• 7:52
Speaker 6: COVID when everybody was losing their life. I'm thinking, I'm
• 7:56
Speaker 6: getting ready to get a transplant, and everybody's dying around me,
• 8:00
Speaker 6: and so it was like I felt hurt because people
• 8:06
Speaker 6: were dying and I'm going to be given life. In
• 8:09
Speaker 6: a midst of millions of people dying, I'm getting life.
• 8:14
Speaker 6: So I feel that, like I said before, everything happens
• 8:17
Speaker 6: for a person. When I got my transplant, it was
• 8:20
Speaker 6: the most wonderful thing in the world because I feel
• 8:23
Speaker 6: like I had so much more to do, so many
• 8:26
Speaker 6: people to talk to, And I feel that my purpose
• 8:30
Speaker 6: and value after receiving my transplant is to educate, to
• 8:35
Speaker 6: educate minorities on transplant. I've learned so much and me
• 8:40
Speaker 6: being as sick as I was, I was on my deathbed.
• 8:43
  Speaker 7: Seven leaders of.
• 8:44
Speaker 6: Oxygen the oxygen was keeping my organs going.
• 8:47
  Speaker 7: That's it.
• 8:49
Speaker 6: It was just keeping my organs going. I needed a
• 8:52
Speaker 6: transplant immediately, and so I had to wait. But you know,
• 8:56
Speaker 6: in the waiting period, your people around I feel it
• 9:01
Speaker 6: like my team, my family around me, like CORE Center
• 9:05
  Speaker 6: for Organ Recovery.
• 9:06
Speaker 7: They were with me the whole time.
• 9:08
Speaker 6: If it wasn't for them and me meeting them at
• 9:13
Speaker 6: the Multicultural Festival, I would have not known anything about CORE.
• 9:17
Speaker 6: So when I became a part after I had my transplant,
• 9:21
Speaker 6: and they followed me through my transplant, came to visit me.
• 9:23
Speaker 6: I had to live in Pittsburgh from July until November.
• 9:30
Speaker 6: And it's the family that you have around you is
• 9:33
Speaker 6: how you get knowledge of things that will help you
• 9:37
Speaker 6: or things that will help you progress. Especially when it
• 9:40
Speaker 6: comes to a transplant. It's such a devastating surgery to
• 9:45
Speaker 6: have because you don't know if you're.
• 9:49
Speaker 7: Going to come out of there or not.
• 9:51
Speaker 6: You don't know if those lungs have to be trimmed
• 9:53
Speaker 6: down to fit your chest. I'm a female. If I
• 9:57
Speaker 6: didn't get female lungs, and today I don't know who
• 9:59
Speaker 6: my donor is or whether they were male or female,
• 10:02
Speaker 6: or even how old they were. All I know is
• 10:05
Speaker 6: my donor was an opioid addic. But you know what,
• 10:08
  Speaker 6: that opioid addict.
• 10:09
  Speaker 7: Was my hero.
• 10:11
Speaker 6: I don't care what people say about people who are
• 10:13
Speaker 6: on drugs. That's a mental thing. But don't look at
• 10:17
Speaker 6: them differently when it comes to organ transplants because they're
• 10:25
Speaker 6: their sickness is what I call it. They can't help it,
• 10:31
Speaker 6: but you know what, God still made them able to
• 10:34
Speaker 6: be heroes. And I feel that everyone should be a
• 10:39
Speaker 6: donor because you don't think about it. What if you've
• 10:42
Speaker 6: got a family member that needs a kidney, are you
• 10:44
Speaker 6: gonna say no, I'm gonna take it with you. If
• 10:46
Speaker 6: my family member would have told me, and they were
• 10:48
Speaker 6: on their deathbed that I couldn't have their lungs, I'd
• 10:51
Speaker 6: have took it from them, but my family supported me.
• 10:56
Speaker 6: I tell you, being having see which is an aggressive, aggressive,
• 11:05
Speaker 6: mean disease for God to give you life and put
• 11:11
Speaker 6: a team together at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center,
• 11:16
Speaker 6: and he picked me a hero. How can you not
• 11:20
Speaker 6: be an organ donor whether you're a minority or Caucasian
• 11:23
Speaker 6: or no matter what nationality you are. But African Americans
• 11:27
Speaker 6: we have to start saving each other. We have to
• 11:30
Speaker 6: start being organ doners. Like I said, I don't know
• 11:33
  Speaker 6: if my.
• 11:33
Speaker 7: Organ donor was African American or not.
• 11:36
Speaker 6: I've got a letter out. I'm hoping they want to
• 11:38
Speaker 6: meet me because I want to meet them. I'm carrying
• 11:40
Speaker 6: their DNA. I need to meet them because now they
• 11:45
Speaker 6: are part of me as well as their loved one
• 11:47
Speaker 6: who gave me life. So what I say to everyone,
• 11:52
Speaker 6: every living soul, God went around healing people.
• 11:57
Speaker 7: He gave people life a second time. He gave me
• 12:02
Speaker 7: life a second time. If you don't think you're worthy
• 12:06
  Speaker 7: of being.
• 12:06
Speaker 5: A look, I'm sorry, that's all right. It happens.
• 12:11
Speaker 6: If you don't think you're worthy of being an organ donor,
• 12:14
Speaker 6: or you're afraid get the knowledge. It's out there. We
• 12:19
Speaker 6: have al Now, I will tell you everything. I will
• 12:23
Speaker 6: tell you whatever question you asked.
• 12:25
  Speaker 7: Al Ai.
• 12:28
Speaker 5: Sorry, that's all right, it's all good.
• 12:30
Speaker 7: Yeah, I call al chat.
• 12:31
  Speaker 5: That's all right.
• 12:32
  Speaker 3: What you want, y A.
• 12:33
Speaker 7: I will tell you everything.
• 12:35
Speaker 6: I've learned new things since I've had my transplant. African Americans,
• 12:40
Speaker 6: we have to get it together, minorities, we have to
• 12:43
Speaker 6: get it together because we need to be saving each other.
• 12:47
Speaker 6: I read about a man named Chelsea. I think his
• 12:50
Speaker 6: name was Chelsea, Robert Chelsea, and he was the first
• 12:55
Speaker 6: African American who had a total face transplant. But you
• 13:01
Speaker 6: know what, he had difficulties too because the first skin
• 13:05
Speaker 6: they put on his face was too light. They didn't
• 13:09
Speaker 6: have an African American donor to put because he was
• 13:12
Speaker 6: African American, to give him his face complexion back or
• 13:17
Speaker 6: give him his face back. But he finally after several
• 13:22
Speaker 6: surgeries and is still living and testifying as to what
• 13:28
Speaker 6: God did for him.
• 13:31
Speaker 7: He's still here. Wouldn't you want to be still here
• 13:35
Speaker 7: if somebody could save you?
• 13:37
Speaker 5: And and this is why following the Network show that
• 13:41
Speaker 5: we did last week, I said, you got to come
• 13:43
Speaker 5: back because you need to talk to the people here
• 13:45
Speaker 5: in in in Charleston, and you need to talk to
• 13:49
Speaker 5: members as you you're the one. You know, you brought
• 13:51
Speaker 5: it up on the show last week, especially among those
• 13:54
Speaker 5: in the minority community. And you got a strong voice.
• 13:57
Speaker 5: Those lungs. You may you may have had a you
• 13:59
Speaker 5: may you may have lungs, but you got the same voice.
• 14:03
Speaker 5: And it's allowed one and the best possible it is
• 14:06
  Speaker 5: allowed one.
• 14:07
Speaker 6: When I talk about organ transplant and I talk about
• 14:10
Speaker 6: core and I talk about people dying because other people
• 14:13
Speaker 6: are being selfish with what God gave them. They rather
• 14:16
Speaker 6: take it uh die and keep it all with them.
• 14:20
Speaker 6: I have a family member. I'm taking everything God has
• 14:23
Speaker 6: with gave me with me. Why are you being selfish?
• 14:26
Speaker 6: What are you gonna do with them? You're gone, your
• 14:31
Speaker 6: spirit has left your body. All this leftist organs, Why
• 14:36
Speaker 6: take them with you when you can save somebody's life.
• 14:39
  Speaker 7: That my donor.
• 14:41
Speaker 6: I can't wait to find out his name or her name,
• 14:44
Speaker 6: because I'm tired of calling him my donor. My family
• 14:48
Speaker 6: is what I call them because their loved one gave
• 14:52
Speaker 6: me life. God picked their loved one for me, because
• 14:56
Speaker 6: life was not good enough for them here on earth.
• 15:00
Speaker 6: Drugs had got them, the streets had got them. But
• 15:03
Speaker 6: God knew I would take care of this person. This
• 15:06
Speaker 6: person is a hero to me for life. He should
• 15:09
Speaker 6: be a hero to his family. He should be a
• 15:13
Speaker 6: hero to anyone that has a transplant, because he's saved
• 15:18
  Speaker 6: not only me.
• 15:19
Speaker 7: He gave somebody's sight. He or she. God gave somebody's sight.
• 15:28
Speaker 6: So if your body is made in the image of
• 15:31
Speaker 6: God and we're made to heal each other.
• 15:34
Speaker 7: Why are we so selfish with it?
• 15:37
Speaker 6: Why do we think that, oh, they're gonna do this
• 15:40
Speaker 6: test when we're dead and they're gonna it's.
• 15:42
  Speaker 3: Not like that.
• 15:44
  Speaker 7: I can't wait to see a procurement.
• 15:48
Speaker 6: When they go in and take the lungs out or
• 15:50
Speaker 6: the kidney and things like that. I want to be
• 15:53
Speaker 6: able to tell you from knowledge of seeing it, of
• 15:58
  Speaker 6: how it is.
• 15:59
  Speaker 7: People.
• 15:59
Speaker 6: Please ease be organ donors. It's nothing wrong with it.
• 16:04
Speaker 6: God doesn't deny it. It's not a sin. Because he
• 16:09
Speaker 6: wants you to take on your neighbor's burdens. What better
• 16:12
Speaker 6: way than to give them organs from your body that
• 16:15
  Speaker 6: he gave.
• 16:15
Speaker 7: You to share? If you why take them to your grave?
• 16:19
Speaker 6: They're going to die. Why not give someone else life
• 16:24
Speaker 6: someone gave. I get emotional when I talk about organ
• 16:27
Speaker 6: transplants simply because people do not have to die because
• 16:31
Speaker 6: their kidneys went bad. People do not have to die
• 16:34
Speaker 6: because their lungs went bad. People don't anything that can
• 16:38
Speaker 6: be transplanted out of your body into someone else.
• 16:41
Speaker 7: To give them life because you're leaving here is the
• 16:44
Speaker 7: best gift you can give to anyone.
• 16:47
Speaker 5: Picky, we got to leave it there. Loved having you
• 16:51
Speaker 5: back on this show. What's the best way that I mean,
• 16:56
Speaker 5: what do people need to do? I mean, Core is
• 16:58
Speaker 5: a wonderful organization. You can google it, you know it's
• 17:02
Speaker 5: you can contact. I know you're on You're on social media.
• 17:06
Speaker 5: You're probably not hard to find. Your one of the
• 17:07
Speaker 5: most recognizable people in Charleston. An everybody knows VICKI. You
• 17:10
Speaker 5: know what I want to so just make it, make
• 17:14
Speaker 5: it happen, Make it happen.
• 17:16
Speaker 6: I'm not supposed to be here, and I am because
• 17:21
Speaker 6: not only God but the young person who gave me life.

Speaker 5: I said, you got to come back. And and you
• 20:24
Speaker 5: know that show's carried obviously here too, but I said,
• 20:26
Speaker 5: I want you to come back, and I want you
• 20:28
Speaker 5: to talk to the people of Charleston because she's so
• 20:30
Speaker 5: well known. She was involved in Multi Fast and she
• 20:33
Speaker 5: you know, worked at and yeah, various things that she's
• 20:37
Speaker 5: done in the past. And I said, now you you
• 20:39
Speaker 5: need to talk, You need to talk to people.
• 20:41
Speaker 13: And I mean, of course, just fantastic or it is.
• 20:45
Speaker 5: We and we've spent the month of April because it's
• 20:48
Speaker 5: National organ Donation Month, and every week we've told a
• 20:50
Speaker 5: different story on the afternoon show of somebody. But man,
• 20:54
Speaker 5: when they they said, thank Jim Strawn for that, I
• 20:57
Speaker 5: think they said, when when we're sending mss Vicky and
• 21:00
  Speaker 5: I wasn't. I wasn't ready for Hurricane VICKI when she
• 21:02
Speaker 5: came wrong with her here last week, she had as
• 21:04
Speaker 5: I said, she had me like and I'm already in oregondonners.
• 21:07
Speaker 5: She had me ready said you want some you want
• 21:08
Speaker 5: a kidney, you want to what do you want to?
• 21:10
Speaker 5: You want anything? Right now? To take it right now
• 21:12
Speaker 5: on the way out, we'll do it in the parking lot,
• 21:14
Speaker 5: going on buddy over to over over to market.
• 21:17
Speaker 14: Well, it's springtime and that means flowers. This is uh,
• 21:22
Speaker 14: you know, this is that week every year where we
• 21:24
Speaker 14: really the transfer transformation in the outdoor market is popping
• 21:31
Speaker 14: and colorful and we start to not even slowly anymore,
• 21:36
Speaker 14: we just hop right back to it. And it's uh,
• 21:41
  Speaker 14: I love it.
• 21:41
Speaker 13: For a number of reasons.
• 21:42
Speaker 14: You know, coming out of winter and you know, the
• 21:44
Speaker 14: doul drums and you know, just shaking off the cold.
• 21:47
Speaker 13: Uh, it's really nice.
• 21:50
Speaker 5: And it was a hellacious one or two.
• 21:52
Speaker 14: Yeah, our gas bill at the market directly reflects that.
• 21:57
  Speaker 13: Man, it was.
• 21:58
Speaker 14: Brutal, and uh it's and now it's not you know,
• 22:01
Speaker 14: we're uh, we've got all of our outdoor h greenhouse
• 22:05
Speaker 14: growers moved in. We're we're getting the first signs of produce.
• 22:09
Speaker 14: All of the ferns are you know, looks half of
• 22:13
Speaker 14: the market looks like Jurassic Park out there, and it's uh,
• 22:17
Speaker 14: it gives us an energy that you know, as we
• 22:21
Speaker 14: come back into spring now through the end of the
• 22:23
Speaker 14: year is just you know, ninety miles an hour and
• 22:27
Speaker 14: then chucking the steering wheel.
• 22:28
  Speaker 13: Out the window.
• 22:29
Speaker 14: So it's it's once we get going and get humming
• 22:32
Speaker 14: and begin to you know, really welcome all of our
• 22:38
Speaker 14: neighbors and community folks back that we haven't seen all
• 22:41
Speaker 14: all winter. It's it's great love. It just tremendously lucky
• 22:47
Speaker 14: to be able to get to do this, bring it
• 22:50
Speaker 14: to Charleston and it's it's a great time.
• 22:53
Speaker 5: It is. Indeed, we're talking to have an osman from
• 22:54
Speaker 5: Capital Market, Dave Allen, showing five eighty Live has brought
• 22:56

• 23:13
Speaker 5: Big event coming up this weekend, talk about it.
• 23:15
Speaker 14: Yeah tomorrow again we're able to do what we do
• 23:20
Speaker 14: the market. Capital Market operates as a nonprofit. In doing so,
• 23:25
Speaker 14: we host fundraisers one a season and this Friday is
• 23:29
Speaker 14: our springtime kickoff. Flowers after hours it starts at six pm.
• 23:34
Speaker 14: We're tremendously fortunate this year to welcome some great local
• 23:38
Speaker 14: entertainment dow Cord. We're bringing in Cocos Kitchen and Cafe
• 23:42
Speaker 14: to provide the food, and the incomparable Ted Armbrick from
• 23:46
Speaker 14: the wine shop at Capital Market we'll be joining us.
• 23:49
Speaker 5: That's a big event for you guys every year. I mean,
• 23:51
  Speaker 5: it really is.
• 23:52
Speaker 14: It's honestly to we time it perfectly. It's so colorful,
• 24:01
Speaker 14: so vibrant. If you want to come enjoy some great music,
• 24:05
Speaker 14: great food and just it. It cannot help but put
• 24:10
Speaker 14: a smile on your face being out there for that evening.
• 24:13
Speaker 14: And uh yeah we we We in turn take the
• 24:17
Speaker 14: proceeds from that and turn it into our our food
• 24:21
Speaker 14: access programs, improving ada accessibility at the market, all of
• 24:25
Speaker 14: the things that you know, we don't necessarily accomplish. Through
• 24:32
Speaker 14: bringing vendors in, it allows us to really sort of
• 24:36
Speaker 14: expand that umbrella. One of the things that I think
• 24:39
Speaker 14: is important about the market is that we're open and
• 24:44
Speaker 14: accessible to anyone that wants to utilize it. And that
• 24:46
Speaker 14: could be someone that needs to come get produced to
• 24:49
Speaker 14: feed their family. It could be someone that's you know,
• 24:51
Speaker 14: looking for the perfect raby and a really high end
• 24:55
Speaker 14: bottle of wine to go along with it. And that's
• 24:59
Speaker 14: that's where we kind of bring everyone together through that.
• 25:04
Speaker 5: It's you know, and I say this every time that
• 25:05
Speaker 5: you're on the show, Evan, and people I think forget
• 25:08
Speaker 5: sometimes that Capital Market is a nonprofit venture. But anytime
• 25:15
Speaker 5: that anybody comes in from out of town, and my
• 25:17
Speaker 5: wife told me this with her company, that they would
• 25:19
Speaker 5: have people come in from all over the country and
• 25:22
Speaker 5: you know, I got time and evening. What do I
• 25:23
Speaker 5: need to do Capital Market?
• 25:25
  Speaker 13: I think it's very important.
• 25:26
Speaker 5: It's number one capital market.
• 25:28
Speaker 14: You know, not only are we home to the visitor
• 25:30
Speaker 14: center for the Charleston CVB, but we we're gonna strive
• 25:37
Speaker 14: to set the tone and experience for people's experience first
• 25:40
  Speaker 14: impression of Charleston.
• 25:41
Speaker 13: And we don't take that lightly. I think.
• 25:44
Speaker 14: We want everyone that has the opportunity to visit to
• 25:49
Speaker 14: really be not only impressed by, you know, what it
• 25:52
Speaker 14: is that we're doing at the market, but come back
• 25:54
Speaker 14: leaving that. You know, these were amongst the friendliest and
• 25:57
Speaker 14: helpful people that we've we've encountered in a long time.
• 26:00
Speaker 14: And when you have the opportunity to work with our
• 26:04
Speaker 14: farmers and producers. These guys are experts. If you have
• 26:07
Speaker 14: a question, come down and see them. They love to
• 26:11
Speaker 14: you know, they have a whole lot of knowledge and
• 26:14
Speaker 14: they're more than happy to share it. And I think
• 26:16
Speaker 14: that's one of the most looked over assets that we
• 26:19
Speaker 14: have at the market is the strength of our producers.
• 26:22
Speaker 14: You know, seldom these days do you have the opportunity
• 26:25
Speaker 14: to interact with the person directly that not only grew
• 26:29
Speaker 14: your fern or your tomato, but you know, can tell
• 26:32
Speaker 14: you you know how to best care for these things.
• 26:35
Speaker 5: And this is so much in the news over the
• 26:37
Speaker 5: last couple of years. And I'm not going to go
• 26:40
Speaker 5: political on this, but it is so much in the
• 26:41
Speaker 5: news because people have been this whole farm to table thing.
• 26:44
Speaker 5: It's even in schools. You know, they're doing it now
• 26:47
Speaker 5: where people. You know, you go to some places and
• 26:50
Speaker 5: you don't necessarily know where those flowers came from. More importantly,
• 26:54
Speaker 5: when it comes to your body, you don't know where
• 26:56
Speaker 5: that produce came from. You talk to these people that
• 26:59
Speaker 5: are at Capital Market, ask them where was this grown?
• 27:02
Speaker 5: When when did you harvest this? So what kind of
• 27:04
Speaker 5: truck did you drive to get it here. I mean,
• 27:07
Speaker 5: you can ask any questions. If people can't do that
• 27:09
Speaker 5: when you go to certain stores.
• 27:11
  Speaker 14: Yep, it's it's unique. And it's not just it's not
• 27:16
Speaker 14: unique because it's West Virginia. Every my family hates it.
• 27:20
Speaker 14: Anytime we travel, we have to go to visit the
• 27:23
Speaker 14: market or wherever we're going. Yeah, that's what you do,
• 27:25
Speaker 14: and we strive to be the very best at all
• 27:32
Speaker 14: of that. It's constantly evolving to work in progress. You know,
• 27:37
Speaker 14: a lot of our farmers are starting to get older
• 27:39
  Speaker 14: and we're we're looking to the future, like who's what's
• 27:42
Speaker 14: going to be the next phase, who's the next generation
• 27:44
Speaker 14: to Uh, we're working towards some programs on really how
• 27:48
Speaker 14: do we incentivize uh, not only folks to get into
• 27:53
Speaker 14: the agriculture business, but what are we doing to help
• 27:55
  Speaker 14: support those efforts?
• 27:57
Speaker 5: All right, so give us the details again about to more.
• 28:00
Speaker 14: Absolutely, you can find all the details for Flowers after
• 28:03
Speaker 14: hours starts at six pm. We're going to be in
• 28:06
Speaker 14: the outdoor market. Check out capitalmarket dot net. You can
• 28:10
Speaker 14: check out all of our social media pages where you
• 28:13
Speaker 14: can find us on Facebook and Instagram. Shoot me a

Speaker 14: are able to do what we do thanks to the
• 28:22
Speaker 14: support of the community.
• 28:23
Speaker 13: Can I get one more plug in?
• 28:25
Speaker 5: You can do whatever you want, man.
• 28:25
Speaker 13: Because my dance partner, I don't know if you've heard
• 28:29
  Speaker 13: of it.
• 28:30
Speaker 5: Oh yeah, how could you not know about this? What
• 28:35
Speaker 5: you and Morgan are doing.
• 28:36
Speaker 14: I just want to get a plug in for Team six. Okay,
• 28:39
Speaker 14: we are. We are a week from tomorrow. We are
• 28:43
Speaker 14: down to the wire. And I didn't know this about Morgan.
• 28:47
Speaker 14: She's the most competitive person I've ever met.
• 28:49
Speaker 5: She's from Logan. What do you think? I thought you
• 28:52
Speaker 5: knew that's the way? We are down and down that way.
• 28:55
Speaker 13: And we want to desperately bring home the mirror Ball NICs.
• 28:58
Speaker 5: And you got some tough competition, but you guys have
• 28:59
Speaker 5: taken a unique approach. And I urge you to follow
• 29:04
Speaker 5: these these folks on on social media because tell the
• 29:09
Speaker 5: people who haven't seen you what these I don't know
• 29:13
Speaker 5: if their characters or your real life personalities that you
• 29:15
Speaker 5: and Morgan Morrison have come up with. Talk about that
• 29:18
  Speaker 5: you know what.
• 29:18
Speaker 14: Morgan is the creative director in this endeavor and I'm
• 29:23
Speaker 14: I'm just here to help fulfill her vision and it's
• 29:28
Speaker 14: the most fun I never want to have again.
• 29:31
Speaker 5: You like your chances?
• 29:32
  Speaker 13: Feeling pretty good?
• 29:33
  Speaker 5: All right?
• 29:34
Speaker 14: Cautiously optimist, cautiously optimist again. We'll take any support we
• 29:38
  Speaker 14: can get.
• 29:39
Speaker 5: All right? All right? How do people support your team?
• 29:41
Speaker 14: And Dancyman Stars Texas directly got a United Way of
• 29:44
Speaker 14: Central West Virginia's page. You can find the link. I
• 29:47
Speaker 14: believe it's sold out the actual event itself.
• 29:50
Speaker 5: But they still support it though, I mean, yeah, obviously
• 29:52
Speaker 5: with donations. But Team six quick text heresy is a
• 29:55
Speaker 5: great segment. Evan Capital Market is the best telling. My said, Hi,
• 29:59
Speaker 5: that came to me personal from Mark Curtis.
• 30:01
  Speaker 13: Oh, mister Curtis.
• 30:02
Speaker 5: He's back in town.
• 30:03
  Speaker 13: Oh fantastic.

• 30:16
Speaker 5: take home. He's retired, bringing bringing home some hardware, bringing
• 30:18
Speaker 5: home some hardware back to Florida. But he's back in town.
• 30:20
Speaker 13: I hope he gets that and we get the Marraorbor and.

• 30:39
Speaker 5: We're Animal and Shockley and Amy and UH and Jeff
• 30:44
Speaker 5: and Hollywood. Jeff were hoping to take home some hardware
• 30:46
Speaker 5: for the almost two year old classic rock station, believe
• 30:49
Speaker 5: it or not. In two years, as we put the
• 30:51
Speaker 5: Mountain on the air and all of our stations are
• 30:52
Speaker 5: up for awards, we're looking forward to Saturday.
• 30:54
Speaker 14: Last last time ied in, I realized that classic rock
• 30:58
Speaker 14: isn't what I used to think.
• 31:00
Speaker 5: Well, you know, well, things change and retro. You don't
• 31:06

• 34:44
Speaker 5: Morning Dave, thanks for having Let's let's talk about the
• 34:47
Speaker 5: whole idea behind this as so long as I mean,
• 34:49
Speaker 5: I know you have you not the answer for all
• 34:51
Speaker 5: of this, but the drug TakeBack Day has been going
• 34:53
Speaker 5: on for ten years now, fifteen years.
• 34:56
Speaker 18: I believe this is the twenty seventh or twenty eight
• 34:58
Speaker 18: Oh okay, yeah, yeah, I know. Over that time, the
• 35:02
  Speaker 18: EA's collected a substantial amount.
• 35:04
Speaker 5: Just have you turn that microphone towards you just a
• 35:06
Speaker 5: little bit there, go ahead.
• 35:07
Speaker 18: Okay, you know, just across the state of West Virginia.
• 35:10
Speaker 18: I know it's the last time we collected over two
• 35:12
Speaker 18: tons at the last two tons over two tons.
• 35:15
Speaker 5: Yeah. Now, what's the idea behind this? I mean, what's
• 35:18
Speaker 5: why is this important?
• 35:19
  Speaker 19: Well?
• 35:19
Speaker 18: One, you want to keep these unused or unweted medications
• 35:22
Speaker 18: out of the wrong hands. But secondly, studies have shown
• 35:25
Speaker 18: that prescription medications are in trace of mounts in our
• 35:28
Speaker 18: water supply, So you don't want to throw them away,
• 35:30
Speaker 18: you don't want to flush them down the corps.
• 35:31
Speaker 5: That's the probably the most common thing that people have said.
• 35:34
Speaker 5: It's like, well, I just I don't need the pills anymore,
• 35:36
Speaker 5: I don't need I just flush it down the toilet.
• 35:38
Speaker 5: That's that's not what you're supposed to do.
• 35:39
Speaker 18: And no, that's not what we're supposed to do at all,
• 35:41
Speaker 18: because it will wind up in the water supply, which
• 35:42
Speaker 18: ultimately can end up you know, even though it's trace amounts,
• 35:45
Speaker 18: it can affect the environment. It can contaminate small animals,
• 35:48
Speaker 18: things of that nature.
• 35:49
Speaker 5: And you're set up Oliver Charleston all over the city.
• 35:52
Speaker 18: We're going to have locations at the Pigley, Wiggley and
• 35:54
Speaker 18: Canll City Ashton Place, Kroger Walgreens on Washington Street West
• 36:00
Speaker 18: on the west side, the Drug and Porium ever By
• 36:02
Speaker 18: Patrick Street Plaza, and the West Virginia Drug Intervention Institute
• 36:06
Speaker 18: on Capel Street, and lastly Free Pharmacy on Oakwood Road.
• 36:09
Speaker 5: Okay, and I do want to mention of course you're
• 36:11
Speaker 5: with the Charleston Police Department, but the Knaw County Sheriff's
• 36:13
Speaker 5: Department also taking part in this, and they they have
• 36:16
Speaker 5: they'll have drop locations at their various other detachments throughout
• 36:21
Speaker 5: Knaw County. So bottom line is there should be one
• 36:24
Speaker 5: pretty pretty close to everybody.
• 36:25
Speaker 18: Oh yes, yes, And we have a year round drug
• 36:27
Speaker 18: box at our Record's division downtown at City Hall, so
• 36:29
Speaker 18: if you can't make it, you can always bring some
• 36:31
  Speaker 18: by there.
• 36:31
Speaker 5: What's the most common story I guess that you hear.
• 36:34
Speaker 5: I mean, somebody gets a prescription for something, they get
• 36:37
Speaker 5: a tooth pulled or or whatever, and they they some
• 36:41
Speaker 5: people just don't like to take the stuff, and or
• 36:43
Speaker 5: maybe somebody you know, tragically passes away and they've got
• 36:46
  Speaker 5: this medicine. I mean, that's I guess that's the most
• 36:48
Speaker 5: common stories that you get.
• 36:49
Speaker 18: Yes, yeah, there's oftentimes people bring in medication that was
• 36:52
Speaker 18: left over from a loved one that had passed on,
• 36:54
Speaker 18: or like you said that, you know, they'll have some
• 36:56
Speaker 18: sort of procedure. They don't want to take the pain
• 36:58
Speaker 18: medicine and they want to get rid of it safely
• 37:00
Speaker 18: because that stuff can be can cause an issue.
• 37:02
Speaker 5: And so what if I've got the stuff and I
• 37:05
Speaker 5: show up at one of these locations, what's the process here?
• 37:09
Speaker 18: You just hand it over to us. There's no questions ask.
• 37:11
Speaker 5: Do they need to take the labels off or anything
• 37:14
Speaker 5: like that, or they just is.
• 37:15
Speaker 18: That that's up to them If they don't want to,
• 37:18
Speaker 18: all everything that you give us is going to be incinerated.
• 37:20
Speaker 18: So there's no need to worry about, you know, identity
• 37:22
Speaker 18: theft or anything like that.

• 37:46
Speaker 5: the Police Defarming drug take back Day. And so you've
• 37:51
Speaker 5: got these prescriptions, you don't want them anymore? You bring
• 37:54
Speaker 5: them back and talk about it. You talk about the
• 37:57
Speaker 5: process of how you get rid of them there, what's
• 37:59
  Speaker 5: that like?
• 38:00
Speaker 18: Just come to any one of the collection sites we'll
• 38:02
Speaker 18: have throughout the city that some of them you won't
• 38:04
Speaker 18: even need to get out of your car. We can
• 38:05
Speaker 18: come up and take them from you. We will collect them.
• 38:08
Speaker 18: At the end of the day, we'll put them all
• 38:09
Speaker 18: together and ship them off to the encinerator.
• 38:12
Speaker 5: And you said, how many tons last year?
• 38:14
Speaker 18: The last one in October of twenty four over the
• 38:18
Speaker 18: state there was over two tons collected.
• 38:20
  Speaker 7: Back.
• 38:21
Speaker 5: Wow, it's amazing because I guess you know, the world
• 38:25
Speaker 5: of medications has you think in one instance that it's
• 38:29
Speaker 5: changed a whole lot, sergeant, But then you think, well,
• 38:33
Speaker 5: maybe it hasn't. And if you get these things off
• 38:37
Speaker 5: the street, because tragically in your line of work you're
• 38:39
Speaker 5: a police officer, you know that There's also been stories
• 38:42
Speaker 5: over the years where people get pain medication. We're talking
• 38:45
Speaker 5: about you know, somebody passes away, or we're talking about
• 38:48
Speaker 5: somebody that just doesn't need them anymore. But we all
• 38:50
Speaker 5: know the story. Somebody gets a tooth pull, they have
• 38:52
Speaker 5: back surgery, whatever, and I don't need these, so I'm
• 38:55
Speaker 5: gonna I'm gonna sell them, and that's one less pill
• 38:58
Speaker 5: that'll be out on the street, that's correct.
• 39:00
Speaker 18: And then even selling your own prescription medication, if it's
• 39:03
Speaker 18: controlled substance, that's a felony offense in West Virginia, so
• 39:06
Speaker 18: we want to help prevent that as well. We also
• 39:09
Speaker 18: don't want those medications to, say, fall into the hands
• 39:11
Speaker 18: of a child that.
• 39:12
Speaker 5: Might be in the house. They could cause a really
• 39:15
Speaker 5: serious issue. All right, So give us the locations one

Speaker 5: Claire Acres to life in prison with the possibility of
• 45:50
Speaker 5: parole after fifteen years for the first degree murder of Jarrett,
• 45:55
Speaker 5: which was approved by Judge Acres after what the murder
• 45:58
Speaker 5: wasn't approved by j Jay. The sentencing was approved, I
• 46:00
Speaker 5: should say after the trial. Jury granted him mercy following
• 46:03
Speaker 5: his trial and he was sentenced to forty years for
• 46:05
Speaker 5: the second degree murder of Carnifex, who was also sentenced
• 46:08
Speaker 5: to no more than ten in prison for the use
• 46:10
Speaker 5: of a firearm during the commission of a felty. Before
• 46:14
Speaker 5: the sentencing, he did apologize to the family in court.
• 46:17
Speaker 5: He'll be eligible for parole in twenty seven years again.

Speaker 5: Team partner, TJ. Meadows commentary he did about Pete Hegsath
• 47:16
Speaker 5: and how much is too much for President Trump. The
• 47:19
Speaker 5: piece is really good. All the TJ's stuff is not
• 47:23
Speaker 5: just saying that because he's sitting across the room from
• 47:25
Speaker 5: it right now. This one, though, is exceptionally good, mainly
• 47:30
Speaker 5: because of the comments it got when it was shared
• 47:34
Speaker 5: to social media, particularly Facebook. Because mister Meadows dared, and
• 47:40
Speaker 5: this is commentary for me now, dared to do something
• 47:44
Speaker 5: that appeared like he was questioning the Trump administration on anything,
• 47:50
Speaker 5: which is a absolute no no in West Virginia. Apparently
• 47:56
Speaker 5: Metro New let me give a couple of quotes here.
• 47:59
Speaker 5: Apparently Metro News hates everything Trump Metro News is going
• 48:03
Speaker 5: to lose their sports audience the same way many have
• 48:07
Speaker 5: moved away from their news. Metro News would fit right
• 48:10
Speaker 5: in with nineteen thirty nine Germany leftist BS. Why is
• 48:15
Speaker 5: Metro News now mimicking MSNBC? If you love hath truths,
• 48:20
Speaker 5: you'll love this commentary? What a croc of blank emoji there, etc. Etc.
• 48:29
Speaker 5: Why are you the way you are? TJ?
• 48:32
Speaker 21: Honestly, I was raised to be very patriotic. One of
• 48:37
Speaker 21: the people that was very formidable in my youth was
• 48:41
Speaker 21: my elementary and middle school principal. Her name was Georgie Price.
• 48:45
Speaker 21: She was from the Arvon family in Boone County. They
• 48:48
Speaker 21: were Greek immigrants. Her parents came here to this country
• 48:51
Speaker 21: with nothing and built a life for their family, she
• 48:54
Speaker 21: and her brothers and sisters. Part of that was understand
• 49:00
Speaker 21: that in a republic, we have the duty to question
• 49:03
Speaker 21: our leaders. We should do it, we have to do it.
• 49:06
Speaker 21: If we don't do it, the system doesn't work. And
• 49:10
Speaker 21: what mister Hegseth did right or wrong putting operational information
• 49:16
Speaker 21: into Signal and I understand that Signal is an improved app,
• 49:20
Speaker 21: but there are still safeguards in place. Procedures in place
• 49:23
Speaker 21: in terms of what kind of information should go in there.
• 49:27
Speaker 21: I think that raises a question as to whether or
• 49:29
Speaker 21: not his judgment rises to a standard that is appropriate
• 49:35
Speaker 21: for him to be the Secretary of Defense.
• 49:37
  Speaker 5: Happened once?
• 49:39
Speaker 21: Did it again? Does his wife really need that kind
• 49:42
Speaker 21: of information? Does his brother, who yes, works at the Pentagon?
• 49:45
Speaker 21: But questions, you know, are still being determined, I guess
• 49:51
Speaker 21: or being asked, and answers are being determined around what
• 49:54
Speaker 21: level of information that brother needs to do his job.
• 49:57
Speaker 21: Personal lawyers in the same vote. I don't see that
• 50:00
Speaker 21: as leftist to question our leaders.
• 50:03
Speaker 5: If frankly, whoa whoa, whoa? If it were a Republican,
• 50:06
Speaker 5: I'd be asking the same question. But you're in West Virginia.
• 50:10
Speaker 5: Dal shalt not if Reagan had the eleventh command, but
• 50:13
Speaker 5: the twelfth is dal shalt not Trump or thou shall
• 50:16
Speaker 5: not question President Trump in West Virginia. I've never been
• 50:19
Speaker 5: a yes man on anything, And if you have any
• 50:24
Speaker 5: doubt that that's not true, look at our Republicans around
• 50:27
Speaker 5: the state of West Virginia right now. Now. Some are,
• 50:29
Speaker 5: I will say, there have been some comments from Riley Moore,
• 50:32
Speaker 5: Senator Justice, Senator Capito about niosh and things of that nature.
• 50:37
Speaker 5: But otherwise you don't question Donald Trump in West Virginia.
• 50:39
Speaker 21: Son, I disagree, and I don't think I did it disrespectfully,
• 50:44
Speaker 21: not at all. People can read the piece. I never
• 50:46
Speaker 21: referred to anybody. I never named called, referred to anybody
• 50:50
Speaker 21: in a derogatory manner. I look, man, we have to
• 50:54
Speaker 21: ask questions in this country as citizens of this country,
• 50:57
Speaker 21: and if we don't ask questions, we find ourselves collectively
• 51:02
Speaker 21: in a place that we don't want to be.
• 51:05
Speaker 5: Look I and I said this on the Afternoon Show yesterday,
• 51:09
Speaker 5: if for no other reason, I think Hegseth needs to
• 51:12
Speaker 5: go because of a lack of judgment. Yeah, you know.
• 51:16
Speaker 5: And and again it doesn't matter to me what you know,
• 51:18
Speaker 5: what his party is or whatever. And I don't know
• 51:20
Speaker 5: the gap personally. I don't have any issues with him.
• 51:22
  Speaker 5: I don't. Uh. But that's where it's it's it's a
• 51:26
Speaker 5: lack of judgment and good judgment that would lead me
• 51:30
Speaker 5: to want to distance himself if I were Donald Trump.
• 51:32
Speaker 5: For Pete Hegseth, it's like a judgment, not so much
• 51:36
Speaker 5: what he did. Uh. He made the same mistake twice.
• 51:39
Speaker 5: Apparently you got to move on in my opinion, because
• 51:42
Speaker 5: it just becomes a distraction. And people on the show
• 51:46
Speaker 5: yesterday was saying, well, you know, the fake news is
• 51:50
Speaker 5: making more out of this than what it is, and
• 51:51
Speaker 5: so on and so forth. It's a distraction. And Trump
• 51:55
Speaker 5: thrives on distractions. We all know that. And sometimes they
• 51:58
Speaker 5: say he does and says outrageous things just to distract.
• 52:02
Speaker 5: He doesn't really mean it necessarily, He just says it
• 52:04
Speaker 5: just to call the buzz. I think he got to
• 52:06
Speaker 5: move on, in my opinion, give me thirty six. And
• 52:08
Speaker 5: I appreciate that people disagree with me. I'm not looking
• 52:10
Speaker 5: for people to say yes, yes, yes we should. It
• 52:13
Speaker 5: sparks debate, and I can't learn from people who always
• 52:17
  Speaker 5: agree with me.
• 52:18
Speaker 21: I can learn from people who disagree with me. I
• 52:21
Speaker 21: think some of those disagreements were less than founded.
• 52:25
Speaker 5: Okay, I'd like to know more quick text here. The
• 52:28
Speaker 5: civilian people who are copied on those texts may also
• 52:31

Speaker 5: national security information. There you go, There you go, all right.
