- 0:40Speaker 2: again right three one time? Last time you got fucking
- 0:45Speaker 2: you got what I'd like to call snubbed. The Jews
- 0:49Speaker 2: got snubbed, that's what they say.
- 0:51Speaker 3: I just I remember being broken, but.
- 0:53Speaker 2: You were, but you were right R T j F
- 0:55Speaker 2: should have been nominated, I think so. Yeah. Yeah, Well listen,
- 0:59Speaker 2: it's all good because Michael is nominated. Killer Mike is here.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Yep, welcome, what's up?
- 1:04Speaker 2: You do have the Album of the Year I have
- 1:06Speaker 2: my list, You're number one. My number two album is
- 1:09Speaker 2: not even a rap album, but I'm gonna do my
- 1:11Speaker 2: hip hop list, but you're number one by far Man.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Thank you. I said that to you too. Yeah, you
- 1:15Speaker 3: know what I mean. That's it.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I know a lot of people just be saying crazy
- 1:18Speaker 1: shit because they've seen it work for other people over
- 1:21Speaker 1: the years, But having had put to work in, I wouldn't.
- 1:24Speaker 3: I wouldn't have bullshit it youself.
- 1:25Speaker 2: No for sure. Now. Yeah, you played me a version
- 1:28Speaker 2: of the album about two years ago in Atlanta, and
- 1:32Speaker 2: some of the stuff made it. Some of the stuff
- 1:33Speaker 2: is didn't make it. But you've definitely. For people who
- 1:36Speaker 2: don't know like and haven't heard you speak about the album,
- 1:39Speaker 2: you describe it as kind of like your Wolverine origin story.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, Ronald Jules is very much the X Men.
- 1:46Speaker 1: It's like don County X Men. Any number of characters
- 1:49Speaker 1: will pop up in and out, and you know, depending
- 1:52Speaker 1: on who your favorite character was, you knew their origins
- 1:54Speaker 1: when it came from and stuff. Wolverine had always been
- 1:57Speaker 1: logan one of mine. Logan I love Magneto is the reason,
- 2:00Speaker 1: part of the reason I named my company villain, Like, yeah,
- 2:03Speaker 1: Magneto is part of the reason I even call my
- 2:05Speaker 1: company villains, because I believe villains aren't necessarily bad guys,
- 2:08Speaker 1: you know what I mean, They just have a different
- 2:10Speaker 1: agenda in terms of solving a big problem. But all
- 2:12Speaker 1: that to say, Run the Jewels man, rest in peace
- 2:14Speaker 1: to Lola, you know what I'm saying. Gangster Boo, Zach Dyala,
- 2:17Speaker 1: Roca Hami, Ma Staples, two Chinese big boys, all these
- 2:21Speaker 1: people have been a part of them Run the Jewels universe.
- 2:24Speaker 1: And I realized that my character Killer Mike, this bad,
- 2:28Speaker 1: swaggering dope ass him. See that essentially his nine year
- 2:31Speaker 1: old kid named Michael, created and built out of his imagination.
- 2:34Speaker 1: The story of Michael had never gotten told. I never
- 2:36Speaker 1: people didn't know where Killer Mike came from or why.
- 2:39Speaker 1: You know, people interpreted confidence and is arrogance and shit
- 2:42Speaker 1: like that. But you know, when you grow up in
- 2:44Speaker 1: the middle of hip hop, hip hop's you know, been
- 2:47Speaker 1: around fifty years, but it's been given a lot of
- 2:49Speaker 1: a lot of kids, a lot of little boys, you know,
- 2:51Speaker 1: reason to hold they chin up, yeah, swagger. So you know,
- 2:54Speaker 1: I had to realize that I had to introduce myself
- 2:56Speaker 1: to people.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean because this is your first solo album
- 2:59Speaker 2: since rap music. That's crazy. And for people who don't know,
- 3:02Speaker 2: rap music is really what kicked off Run the.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Jewels yep, yep, it was pre Run the Jewels.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Yeah, And it's crazy to think, like I feel like
- 3:11Speaker 2: eleven years ago was three years ago.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Yeah, it does.
- 3:14Speaker 4: It feels three years ago, but it's crazy, like we've
- 3:17Speaker 4: had a pretty crazy historical run that you've been a
- 3:20Speaker 4: part of an LP and like, you know, I know
- 3:22Speaker 4: you took your time with this project, and I'm just
- 3:25Speaker 4: glad man that, Like the Grammy's got got it right.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I feel like a couple of years ago, like you know,
- 3:30Speaker 2: there was a couple of Grammy nominations that I was
- 3:32Speaker 2: glad to see Royce got nominated and Freddy Gibbs got nominated,
- 3:35Speaker 2: And when they nominated you a couple of times this year,
- 3:38Speaker 2: I was like, thank.
- 3:38Speaker 1: God, well three times three times yep yep, two four
- 3:42Speaker 1: Rap Song of the Year, Rap Performance of the Year,
- 3:44Speaker 1: and Sciences and then at Rap Album of the Year,
- 3:47Speaker 1: and that's what that's what, you know. I ain't gonna
- 3:50Speaker 1: lie want it, you know, I want Rap Album of
- 3:52Speaker 1: the Year because I'm proud to be a rapper.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I'm damn proud to be a rapper.
- 3:56Speaker 1: A lot of people, you know, they they get rap
- 3:59Speaker 1: Album of the Year and they like, that's a snub.
- 4:01Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, people have acted as doing
- 4:03Speaker 1: the past, Well, I deserved the album the year. Well
- 4:05Speaker 1: I personally feel like, yeah, I gave you the album
- 4:06Speaker 1: of the year in terms of depth and human emotion,
- 4:09Speaker 1: vulnerability and vulnerability. I gave you what music is supposed
- 4:13Speaker 1: to give you, whether it's the blues or rock and roll,
- 4:15Speaker 1: or soul or funk or rap.
- 4:17Speaker 3: I gave that to you.
- 4:18Speaker 1: But I care and covet Rap of the Rap Album
- 4:21Speaker 1: of the Year because for the last fifty years, this
- 4:23Speaker 1: has been a driving, you know, cultural force in this
- 4:27Speaker 1: in this country. You know, rap wasn't even my music first.
- 4:30Speaker 1: He was my mom's music. My mom was only sixteen
- 4:32Speaker 1: if she had me, So the first music I'm hearing
- 4:34Speaker 1: from her is disco and early rap record you know.
- 4:36Speaker 1: So it matters to me because of what rock Kim
- 4:40Speaker 1: gave to me, Eric being rock Kim, because of what
- 4:42Speaker 1: run mc gave to me, because with Outcasts and Goodie
- 4:44Speaker 1: Mob gave to me because of what nas first two
- 4:47Speaker 1: LPs especially gave to me. You know, when you start
- 4:50Speaker 1: talking about Farside, what they gave to me Dale the
- 4:52Speaker 1: hieroglyphic and they gave to me.
- 4:53Speaker 3: I win that award.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I'm going to be the proudest person to have ever
- 4:57Speaker 1: held that award, you know, because I give a day.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I'm about being a rapper and an MC. This is
- 5:02Speaker 1: not a secondary job. This ain't some shit I did
- 5:05Speaker 1: because I couldn't play sports. This is not and that's
- 5:07Speaker 1: no slight to anyone. I was just too chubby to
- 5:09Speaker 1: play sports. What's your frame of reference, Mike. Some of
- 5:11Speaker 1: my best friends want an NCAA championship with u C
- 5:14Speaker 1: l A. One of my other best friends got got
- 5:16Speaker 1: got drafted to the Buffalo Bills. Most friends radd office.
- 5:18Speaker 1: So I knew, yeah, I ain't gonna be no athlete.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I'm gonna be I'm gonna be the best god damn
- 5:22Speaker 1: rap out of my friend groupe. So I care, And
- 5:25Speaker 1: I think that a lot of MCing is based on
- 5:28Speaker 1: these days kind of acting as though you don't care.
- 5:31Speaker 3: But I care. I want it.
- 5:33Speaker 2: I also think like you have one of the more
- 5:35Speaker 2: unique paths to a Grammy nomination. If you just look
- 5:39Speaker 2: at the way your career played out, like obviously coming
- 5:42Speaker 2: out with Outcast and the whole world is where a
- 5:45Speaker 2: lot of people were introduced to you. Obviously, you know,
- 5:49Speaker 2: your first album was incredible, and I feel like your
- 5:52Speaker 2: first album isn't on.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Spotify or Monster. I don't know.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I don't think monsters.
- 5:56Speaker 3: I still ride Old School, so it's in.
- 5:58Speaker 2: The Monster because I'm pretty sure it's not on your
- 6:00Speaker 2: Spotify account.
- 6:01Speaker 3: I still ride Old School, but no, but it's crazy.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And then you have your grind, your grind time rap
- 6:06Speaker 2: rap ship where you're dropping mixtapes and you're dropping records
- 6:09Speaker 2: like like you're you're really on your ship. I mean
- 6:12Speaker 2: I first heard Peel through You and a bunch of
- 6:14Speaker 2: a bunch of young artists out of Atlanta. I discovered
- 6:17Speaker 2: through those projects. And then Rap Music is one of
- 6:20Speaker 2: the best rap albums ever in my opinion, and it
- 6:23Speaker 2: kicks off this whole unexpected journey of Run the Jewels
- 6:27Speaker 2: last decade. And you know, in a in a world
- 6:32Speaker 2: in which rap groups, duos, et cetera don't exist anymore,
- 6:36Speaker 2: you guys have thrived in a way that like, really,
- 6:38Speaker 2: it's like y'all in the migos.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Yeah, you know what I'm saying. The rest in piece
- 6:43Speaker 3: of takeoff.
- 6:44Speaker 2: That's and for you to take all this time to
- 6:46Speaker 2: kind of reintroduce the world to Michael and get the acknowledgement,
- 6:50Speaker 2: get the nod. Man, It's it's just a beautiful thing
- 6:52Speaker 2: to see. Man.
- 6:52Speaker 3: I appreciate you.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I wont it so, you know, y'all, y'all send me
- 6:56Speaker 1: some preyer, some good energy, and hope we moved on.
- 6:58Speaker 1: People hearts on that, you know. Vote for Vote for
- 7:00Speaker 1: the person who, first of all again has put put
- 7:02Speaker 1: together the rap album of the year and beyond it.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I really, I really give a damn about it.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Yeah, and like I always so so like obviously when
- 7:09Speaker 2: I first heard the album, I always wonder a couple
- 7:11Speaker 2: of things, because you and your lady are amazing. You
- 7:13Speaker 2: guys are you know obviously she's She's been talked about
- 7:17Speaker 2: by you a lot. I bet your wife a lot.
- 7:19Speaker 2: She's cool as hell. Big When did you give Shay
- 7:24Speaker 2: heads up about the summer record, Like, Hey, I'm gonna
- 7:26Speaker 2: write I'm gonna write this song about this X fling
- 7:28Speaker 2: from back in the day.
- 7:29Speaker 3: No, it wasn't my fleeing was my girlfriend.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I don't like, Hey, guys, ball up now, don't just
- 7:35Speaker 1: be be a real nigga about you know what I mean?
- 7:37Speaker 1: And you just your wife was in love with somebody. Folks,
- 7:40Speaker 1: she met you, even if she was eight like you,
- 7:43Speaker 1: ain't one.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Of one count h It's very rare that that actually
- 7:46Speaker 3: is the case. Man.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Your grandparents say they was, but my you know, yeah,
- 7:49Speaker 1: I can now know my granddad, my grandmama was a verge.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I can't tell you my grandfather was, you know, you know, I.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Such a dope storytelling record.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Though, yeah, she had already heard the story because we
- 8:01Speaker 1: talked as my friend of course, you know, so I
- 8:05Speaker 1: think that that it wasn't a.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Need though to say, hey, I'm gonna rap out this.
- 8:10Speaker 1: I think she was just like you finally got a
- 8:12Speaker 1: chance to get it off your chest because it's something
- 8:14Speaker 1: that I've been with and it's been with me, and
- 8:17Speaker 1: it sat with me. And when I played the record
- 8:20Speaker 1: for men and for those who might not know what
- 8:22Speaker 1: he's talking about, that you shouldn't be out there, but
- 8:24Speaker 1: you know, give Slummer a listen. It's a story of
- 8:27Speaker 1: me at fifteen sixteen, falling in love with a girl
- 8:30Speaker 1: who's a year too younger than me, and I was
- 8:32Speaker 1: living like adults essentially for two summers. I'm you know,
- 8:34Speaker 1: I'm thinking I'm trapping on rich or you know, she
- 8:36Speaker 1: in the apartments or subsidized, so they like, we got
- 8:39Speaker 1: many bills, but we live like adults, and and we
- 8:41Speaker 1: get pregnant, and I have to go through the abortion process,
- 8:45Speaker 1: you know, with her paying for it, and man, I
- 8:48Speaker 1: played it for dudes, and dudes wept and they say, man,
- 8:51Speaker 1: nobody had ever expressed how I felt. You know, I
- 8:53Speaker 1: hadn't even been considered that I had feelings. And we
- 8:55Speaker 1: know it's traumatic for the girl, for the woman, absolutely
- 8:58Speaker 1: it is. And they deserved all the seeing, all the
- 9:00Speaker 1: support around controlling their bodies.
- 9:02Speaker 3: They deserve.
- 9:03Speaker 1: But man, them little boys and the men and these
- 9:05Speaker 1: young men that have had to take part in that,
- 9:07Speaker 1: there is no body sometimes to put the arm around
- 9:10Speaker 1: the shoulders. I know that was a difficult decision to make.
- 9:12Speaker 1: And I know it's gonna it's gonna stay with you,
- 9:15Speaker 1: or let me tell you, it's gonna stay with you.
- 9:17Speaker 1: You know you're gonna feel a way about it, you know.
- 9:18Speaker 1: And so I was honored to be able to do
- 9:21Speaker 1: it in my and my my My wife is glad
- 9:23Speaker 1: I got it out of my chest. You know now
- 9:24Speaker 1: She's like, no, you can stop talking.
- 9:27Speaker 2: World the story now for you. Man, you have a
- 9:30Speaker 2: lot of vulnerable moments on this album. Obviously A Motherless
- 9:33Speaker 2: to Me is like one that really really stands out.
- 9:37Speaker 2: I know, I want to say, when you played the
- 9:40Speaker 2: album for people who don't know, you had like a
- 9:43Speaker 2: really cool album listening thing here in l A that
- 9:46Speaker 2: was like a Masonic temple or it was it was
- 9:48Speaker 2: a cemetery. It was a cemetery.
- 9:50Speaker 3: It was a cemetery.
- 9:51Speaker 2: But I remember, yeah, it's like, yo, you're joining the Illuminati.
- 9:56Speaker 3: That's exactly with three.
- 10:01Speaker 2: But no, I know you got really emotional talking about
- 10:03Speaker 2: that director because it's about your mom.
- 10:05Speaker 1: You know. Yeah, my girl, man, Denise, she's she under here.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Her and my grandmother. My mother was sixteen years old.
- 10:13Speaker 3: When she she had me, and you know we just
- 10:18Speaker 3: grew up together.
- 10:19Speaker 1: That was my girl, you know, like that's the first
- 10:21Speaker 1: person that introduced me to rap music. That she was up,
- 10:24Speaker 1: I mean, being sixteen.
- 10:25Speaker 2: She's also kind of your friend.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Yeah, she was like my big sister, right, you know
- 10:27Speaker 1: what I'm saying that's who taught me how to dance
- 10:29Speaker 1: with a girl, right, you know what I'm saying, That's
- 10:31Speaker 1: who taught me how to how to approach a girl.
- 10:33Speaker 1: You like, that's who. That's who taught me how to
- 10:35Speaker 1: take no shit, you know, don't be no sucker. And
- 10:38Speaker 1: she wasn't no single mom. You know, my I had
- 10:40Speaker 1: two dads, you know, my dad who's biologically my dad,
- 10:43Speaker 1: and my dad she married. I had grandparents that raised me,
- 10:45Speaker 1: grew up in a you know, a man and a
- 10:47Speaker 1: woman household, raising me and my two little sisters. But
- 10:50Speaker 1: me and my mom just shared the special bond and
- 10:52Speaker 1: friendship and kinship. And it was around you know, her saying,
- 10:56Speaker 1: you know, I wish I could be soft throwing you
- 10:57Speaker 1: about some stuff that you the only boy I got,
- 10:58Speaker 1: so you got to be a man. But at her heart,
- 11:00Speaker 1: she was an artist, so she she encouraged that about me,
- 11:03Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So I just man, I
- 11:06Speaker 1: just I want to I want to lead a life
- 11:07Speaker 1: that makes her proud.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Sension for you looking at the nominees of Rap Album
- 11:12Speaker 2: of the Year, Yeah.
- 11:13Speaker 3: The Motherless record.
- 11:14Speaker 1: I'm sorry that record just to say I got emotional
- 11:16Speaker 1: about that record because because I miss her. So anybody
- 11:20Speaker 1: out there who has a mother, no matter your relationship,
- 11:24Speaker 1: check in because.
- 11:25Speaker 2: I think we take advantage of this.
- 11:27Speaker 3: My mom. My mom told me, she.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Said, you know, I know you think your grandmother is
- 11:31Speaker 1: your mama because she she raised you. But I'm your
- 11:34Speaker 1: fucking mama. And it's that's kind of conversation had. And
- 11:36Speaker 1: she said, and when I when I go, you're gonna
- 11:39Speaker 1: understand that. And the day she died, I've never felt
- 11:43Speaker 1: that emptiness. And and I know it doesn't get feeled
- 11:46Speaker 1: and a.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Lot of people don't realize that until that day happened.
- 11:49Speaker 3: It happened.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't shit. She told me, you know, I
- 11:52Speaker 1: you know, I you know, I tied and make all friends.
- 11:56Speaker 1: I you know, I gotta, I got. I have placed
- 12:00Speaker 1: my house while honor. But with that said, like man,
- 12:03Speaker 1: I wish I could have said it while she was
- 12:04Speaker 1: I get it.
- 12:05Speaker 2: It's such a beautiful song. Really, I mean, that's a
- 12:07Speaker 2: record that I feel like I could have been nominated.
- 12:08Speaker 3: For a Grammy.
- 12:09Speaker 1: It could have been, it could have been, should have been,
- 12:11Speaker 1: would have been. It'd be one day who knows, you know,
- 12:13Speaker 1: now be mixed the album or something. But I just
- 12:16Speaker 1: know that I got to cover it all album of
- 12:18Speaker 1: the Year and an album to live to.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I was just saying, who do you see as
- 12:23Speaker 2: if you're looking at the other nominees for Rap Album
- 12:25Speaker 2: of the Year. Yeah, I got my opinion, But who
- 12:28Speaker 2: do you think is the album you gotta worry about?
- 12:31Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I just know that I've listened to them all and
- 12:34Speaker 1: I like parts of all of them, you know, and
- 12:36Speaker 1: I respect the artists involved. But what I'm saying is
- 12:40Speaker 1: as as I could sit down Drake and Savage, I
- 12:44Speaker 1: could sit down Nas, I could sit down Travis Metro,
- 12:48Speaker 1: and I could sit down with Metro, said metrosca produce
- 12:51Speaker 1: he put together Mars. I could put those artists in
- 12:54Speaker 1: a room and I could play my album, and something
- 12:56Speaker 1: about my experience in my life is going to affect
- 12:59Speaker 1: all of them off that as in a deeply personal way.
- 13:02Speaker 1: And you know what I mean, Like you know, in
- 13:05Speaker 1: a deeply personal way. And I don't say that to
- 13:08Speaker 1: be in competition with but just saying I made an
- 13:10Speaker 1: album that we all can bleed to. I made an
- 13:12Speaker 1: album that we all understand addiction, We all understand the
- 13:16Speaker 1: precio preciousness of a mother. We all are black men
- 13:20Speaker 1: in North America trying to understand and make our way.
- 13:23Speaker 1: I don't care what color Drake is in terms of
- 13:26Speaker 1: how people argue about this biraciality and shit. Since he's
- 13:28Speaker 1: been coming to America, he knows he's a black man
- 13:30Speaker 1: if he's been in Atlanta, right, he knows he's a
- 13:32Speaker 1: black man if he's been in Houston and Memphis. So
- 13:35Speaker 1: there's something on here for the worker class, the black
- 13:38Speaker 1: man and the women who love them, for all of us.
- 13:41Speaker 1: So I believe that if we sat down at the table,
- 13:43Speaker 1: I could have that argument with those men and say,
- 13:45Speaker 1: this is why, like amongst the fraternity and brotherhood of
- 13:48Speaker 1: MC's at their table, this is why, this is why
- 13:52Speaker 1: I should and listen to this, and it'll pierce your
- 13:55Speaker 1: heart the same way as piercing the audience.
- 13:57Speaker 2: This or for sure, man, I think it was an
- 13:59Speaker 2: like almost It's like a much needed medicine of hip hop.
- 14:02Speaker 2: It's like somebody actually is making a vulnerable album to
- 14:06Speaker 2: like live to, not to turn up to, not the
- 14:08Speaker 2: TikTok too.
- 14:08Speaker 1: It's just well, I mean, you can still do it all.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I mean the intro of Dawn by Law made a TikTok.
- 14:14Speaker 1: I was like, God, damn, I'm gonna have to get
- 14:15Speaker 1: in shape. Everybody gym shit was you know, the journey
- 14:18Speaker 1: over talking and and with that said, exit nine, you
- 14:21Speaker 1: cruise to this is record you play in fifty six
- 14:24Speaker 1: minutes later after you drive from here to Pomona.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Man, You've like, I've just had experience. I feel like
- 14:29Speaker 3: I saw a movie.
- 14:30Speaker 1: This is This is an album where when you clean
- 14:32Speaker 1: up your house, by the time the album in, you
- 14:34Speaker 1: done finished that chore man, your laundry done and folded.
- 14:37Speaker 3: It is a it is a classic album, and.
- 14:40Speaker 1: That it feels good, even the sad parts, even the
- 14:43Speaker 1: parts that make you think about a reminisce on stuff that,
- 14:45Speaker 1: but it makes you feel good.
- 14:47Speaker 3: You feel more human after it.
- 14:48Speaker 1: So you know, I'm just glad to be the conduan
- 14:51Speaker 1: for that energy, because hip hop deserved.
- 14:53Speaker 3: That in his fiftieth year.
- 14:56Speaker 2: In the fiftieth year here sure.
- 14:57Speaker 1: When people are talking about what sales are down, and y'ad, y'all, yeah,
- 15:00Speaker 1: I didn't. I didn't know about sales in my first ardo.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I just knew I felt something when I heard it.
- 15:05Speaker 1: It made me feel something, and that's what I did.
- 15:07Speaker 2: I'm curious. I first heard of a new Andre three
- 15:12Speaker 2: thousand album when you spilled some beans that you weren't
- 15:14Speaker 2: supposed to.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Spill stone Man, but when you when you revealed.
- 15:19Speaker 2: That and then kind of walked it back at that
- 15:22Speaker 2: moment in time. But you know it was a flute album.
- 15:25Speaker 1: I have no comment on any of it is I
- 15:28Speaker 1: know if you want to Andre three thousand verse, there's
- 15:31Speaker 1: an album called Michael and it's on the song called
- 15:34Speaker 1: Scientists and Engineers and you should listen.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Have you have you gotten high to the to the
- 15:40Speaker 2: Andre album because it's a great album to relax, to go.
- 15:43Speaker 1: How to got Stone? Well, I'm stone here, I'm stoned.
- 15:46Speaker 1: If I'm listening to Metallica, I'm stoned.
- 15:48Speaker 3: But I.
- 15:50Speaker 1: I was curious to hear it like everybody else. And
- 15:53Speaker 1: I play and I smoke and I'm going to probably
- 15:55Speaker 1: eat some shrooms. It's music I'm proud of. I'm proud
- 16:01Speaker 1: of Dream Big Boy because they are out of a
- 16:05Speaker 1: talent program called Tri Cities High School that also produced
- 16:09Speaker 1: Eskate that also produced KP one of the greatest income
- 16:13Speaker 1: yep I sat the KP KP the great DJ as well.
- 16:17Speaker 1: It just produced some amazing artists and those guys like
- 16:20Speaker 1: I tell you, by keeping an inner child alive, big
- 16:23Speaker 1: boys kept it pushing and going, giving us new styles, variants,
- 16:26Speaker 1: whether it's fan of gram or whatever whatever new.
- 16:31Speaker 2: He's introduced so many artists to us, so many.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I love him and with Dre, Dre just being an
- 16:37Speaker 1: artist in that waiting until he's ready to make art,
- 16:41Speaker 1: to make art and get people interested beyond what they
- 16:45Speaker 1: thought they were interested in. I think it was amazing.
- 16:47Speaker 1: So I'm very proud of him. I'm very proud of
- 16:49Speaker 1: be you know, cut Master Swift or DJ did all
- 16:52Speaker 1: the cuts on Michael. He's coming back in with us.
- 16:55Speaker 1: We do make more music because he's an amazing trumpeter singer,
- 16:58Speaker 1: so we you know, the Dungeon family lives. Pat Ray
- 17:01Speaker 1: and Reek still doing beats, like I mean, I gotta
- 17:04Speaker 1: beat on riding around right now. So for me, man,
- 17:06Speaker 1: I'm just I'm proud that that for whatever, for whatever
- 17:10Speaker 1: compels you, he's being compelled to do something.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:13Speaker 2: It's crazy because I just had a Victoria uh Jene Monday.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I was Gonnay Victoria name gene Mo name on the
- 17:21Speaker 2: show and we were talking. We were talking about her
- 17:24Speaker 2: her purple ribbon run. Yeah, because I don't think a
- 17:28Speaker 2: lot of people like kind of give the proper respect
- 17:32Speaker 2: to that, like that of artists.
- 17:34Speaker 3: Big boy is a.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Big boy is an amazing He's an amazing guy in
- 17:38Speaker 1: terms of pig and talent and doing business for sure.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Sometimes you just a little ahead of the curve.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Yeah, all stars are so good and it was like
- 17:45Speaker 2: so many names you're on there, like oh shit, oh shit.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Rest and rest in peace of Nate, super Nate, down
- 17:50Speaker 1: of cancer, Lass Ships, rest in peace to him. Shouts
- 17:52Speaker 1: out to Black on seabone, Little bro No, shouts out
- 17:55Speaker 1: to Sleepy Brown and shouts out to now bubb shouts
- 17:58Speaker 1: out Bubba.
- 18:00Speaker 2: For sure, Man for you man, talk to me about
- 18:04Speaker 2: like you know, I know, Uh, the focus is Michael.
- 18:09Speaker 2: How many times have you been in with LP in
- 18:14Speaker 2: the last like twelve months working on music? If any.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Man, we've been together because we were touring. We haven't
- 18:21Speaker 3: worked on.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Anything working on these you guys had the tour. By
- 18:23Speaker 2: the way, I'm still very mad that the Rage tour
- 18:26Speaker 2: never happened for me to see with my man.
- 18:27Speaker 1: I wish you would have COVID New York, COVID and
- 18:31Speaker 1: I'm glad Zach is heeled up back on the mean
- 18:33Speaker 1: and congrats to all the guys they got introducted in
- 18:36Speaker 1: the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame rightfully. So, Yeah,
- 18:39Speaker 1: the way run the Jews usually work is l trevects
- 18:42Speaker 1: off into the will. You know, he treks off into
- 18:44Speaker 1: the wilderness somewhere and probably like kills bears and eats
- 18:48Speaker 1: them and lives as a wild man and then comes
- 18:49Speaker 1: back with the plessoro of beat.
- 18:50Speaker 2: I feel like you'd be the guy that killed bears
- 18:52Speaker 2: and eat them.
- 18:53Speaker 1: Now, I'm definitely down to. Usually we prefer killing deer
- 18:56Speaker 1: and hog where I'm from.
- 18:58Speaker 2: But just went hog hunting with that Mexican No tea you.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Had fund out Texas, you had if you have had
- 19:02Speaker 1: a ball, right, it was so much fun. Who dressed
- 19:04Speaker 1: Who dressed him for you? They already had someone on
- 19:06Speaker 1: site to dress the hall cook and make sausages all
- 19:08Speaker 1: that for him, not cooking.
- 19:09Speaker 2: But we just killed him and left.
- 19:10Speaker 3: No, that's what we did. No, you're not supposed to
- 19:13Speaker 3: do that.
- 19:13Speaker 2: I swear to God this. In Texas they're like past
- 19:16Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 19:17Speaker 3: No, but you're you're supposed to eat them. It's a hall,
- 19:19Speaker 3: you know.
- 19:19Speaker 2: So we so we killed a couple of them and
- 19:22Speaker 2: then we came back and like a pack of coyotes or.
- 19:25Speaker 3: That's destroyed them. That's good.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just saying you're not so you know, I
- 19:29Speaker 1: know they're like getting so fair out there there, but
- 19:31Speaker 1: you kill I killed something, I'm gonna eat it like
- 19:33Speaker 1: I'm sorry. I'm not sports fishing. I'm not putting a
- 19:35Speaker 1: fucking bass bag that basket collar, basket it. That's my
- 19:38Speaker 1: grandfather saying, I'm ednit it.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Yeah, No, I mean I kind of felt because I've
- 19:42Speaker 2: never been that's the only time I've ever been hunting.
- 19:44Speaker 3: You're good, though, you should do it. It was fun.
- 19:46Speaker 3: Everyone should do it. At least, you know, at least
- 19:48Speaker 3: gets out once a year do something.
- 19:49Speaker 2: We also were doing it out of helicopter.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I've seen it. I've seen it.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Colinor shouts out to Colinor, who an interview with years
- 19:57Speaker 1: he he go, I saw him. I've seen him go
- 20:00Speaker 1: out and lean out the helicopter and I had a
- 20:02Speaker 1: video of himpoo.
- 20:03Speaker 3: That sh it was dope.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Yeah, we're going on a hunting tangent up back to
- 20:07Speaker 2: you in LP so lp he goes out and he
- 20:09Speaker 2: kills bears and does whatever.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Yeah, and he comes back with the plethora of beats
- 20:12Speaker 1: on a hard drive, like like what do you think?
- 20:15Speaker 3: And and what what do I think? Is usually oh shit,
- 20:17Speaker 3: this is the fucking album and like sequence and everything. Damn.
- 20:20Speaker 3: They're like, oh my god, this is it.
- 20:21Speaker 1: And and then we were just in there. We're just
- 20:24Speaker 1: in there. It was vibing more than right. We just
- 20:26Speaker 1: start playing ship. Like he came out here. We were
- 20:29Speaker 1: out here.
- 20:29Speaker 3: I had forgot when it was. It might have been
- 20:31Speaker 3: a year or might have been just over, but he
- 20:33Speaker 3: came out.
- 20:34Speaker 1: We were in different hotels, but he came over to
- 20:36Speaker 1: a spot I was at and he just played something
- 20:38Speaker 1: for me and he had part of a verse on it,
- 20:41Speaker 1: and I said, oh let me, let me, let me
- 20:43Speaker 1: get in there.
- 20:43Speaker 3: And I went in there.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Man, I spas on this ship like I'm like, oh shit,
- 20:48Speaker 1: So you know, to me, I'm just like I want
- 20:50Speaker 1: to finish that one.
- 20:51Speaker 3: And whenever we finished that.
- 20:52Speaker 2: One, we might get five.
- 20:55Speaker 3: I mean, it's got to happen one day. That's something
- 20:57Speaker 3: I cheered for.
- 20:58Speaker 1: But again, we're just you know, it's when it's gonna happen,
- 21:02Speaker 1: Like when it happens, but until it happens, Michael. If
- 21:04Speaker 1: you're looking for dre verse Michael, or if you're looking
- 21:07Speaker 1: for one, I got LP versus I got both hull
- 21:10Speaker 1: of Michael.
- 21:11Speaker 2: And it's like and even the record with LP on
- 21:13Speaker 2: the album is like different for you.
- 21:14Speaker 3: You got good dope on the street. That's all I'm
- 21:17Speaker 3: telling you.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Man, We still here for you. Man, you want to
- 21:19Speaker 1: run the Jewels, you need to listen and don't let
- 21:21Speaker 1: the devil. It's a it's a no I d beat
- 21:24Speaker 1: with LP different like LP chopped it. So yeah, and
- 21:28Speaker 1: Taco Taco was on a drums on that right ye up,
- 21:30Speaker 1: little Shallamar, Who's who's the one to run the Jewice

- 25:01Speaker 2: Have you do you see my tweets, like once every
- 25:03Speaker 2: two months, I tweet that you should run for president?
- 25:07Speaker 2: Have you seen these tweets I share every two months,
- 25:10Speaker 2: I'm tweeting, what killer Mike just run for president?
- 25:12Speaker 3: I don't want them people to kill me. I want
- 25:14Speaker 3: to wrap. I want to build something.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Would you ever like, like I knew you've asked been
- 25:17Speaker 2: asked if you'd ever run for office, but like I
- 25:19Speaker 2: could see somebody getting elected eventually and making you a
- 25:23Speaker 2: part of their cabinet.
- 25:26Speaker 1: You know what, I remember when I think one of
- 25:29Speaker 1: the Bushes put Arnold Schwartzenegger on their cabinet over physical fitness.
- 25:34Speaker 1: And that's one thing I've seen in my life. I
- 25:35Speaker 1: said that made all of sense in the world now,
- 25:37Speaker 1: because you see Arnold and you're like, yeah, I'm like
- 25:39Speaker 1: putting a brain surgeon who I have an enormous amount
- 25:42Speaker 1: of respect for. Over housing. Urban development was a little
- 25:45Speaker 1: quirky for me. But doctor Ben Carson grew up in
- 25:48Speaker 1: the housing projects. I would have liked to have seen
- 25:50Speaker 1: doctor Ben Carson while he was over the housing projects,
- 25:54Speaker 1: institute some type of mandate that that gave kids options
- 25:59Speaker 1: and benefits from already?
- 26:02Speaker 3: Is it, Pete? No?
- 26:03Speaker 1: I thought Pete was doing transportation. Yeah, I could be wrong,
- 26:05Speaker 1: but you could be over here. But I always thought
- 26:07Speaker 1: that that was an opportunity missed because I thought that
- 26:10Speaker 1: if Ben could have figured something out between a bank,
- 26:12Speaker 1: between health hood and education, that we could have been
- 26:17Speaker 1: educating kids right in the housing projects. Differently, So if
- 26:19Speaker 1: I did something in the cabinet that made sense, I'd
- 26:22Speaker 1: be honored.
- 26:23Speaker 2: To But I doubt you, So you'd be open to that.
- 26:25Speaker 1: I'd I'd be open into that because I could, I
- 26:27Speaker 1: could do something effective and I wouldn't have to prostitute
- 26:30Speaker 1: myself for money because the person that hired me would
- 26:32Speaker 1: have already done that.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Like, had the DNC not like fucked over Bernie Sanders,
- 26:35Speaker 2: I feel like you'd be You would definitely have You
- 26:37Speaker 2: would definitely would have been in the cabinet.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:39Speaker 1: I was a really believer, you know, and whatever the
- 26:41Speaker 1: old guy was, even if I wouldn't have been the cabinet,
- 26:42Speaker 1: would have I would have helped in any way.
- 26:45Speaker 2: You guys are It's crazy because like you are such
- 26:47Speaker 2: a leader, and I feel like, you know, when I
- 26:48Speaker 2: think of like the word activists, that as a word
- 26:51Speaker 2: that gets thrown around and I think about like how
- 26:56Speaker 2: you and Bernie show up to like the Amazon.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Strike Yeah down in elevant. Yeah, I'm saying that's.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Something that like you're working on albums, you're touring, but
- 27:05Speaker 2: like somehow you still find the time, you still find
- 27:08Speaker 2: the energy to like still stand up and just be
- 27:12Speaker 2: the voice of the voiceis well.
- 27:14Speaker 1: You know what, It's not just me, you know, And
- 27:17Speaker 1: I consider myself a product of the worker class in
- 27:20Speaker 1: this country. I am you know, both my dads, my grandpa,
- 27:23Speaker 1: my grandma. You know, working class people, hard working, decent people,
- 27:27Speaker 1: field integrity, good morals, and they just wanted better. If
- 27:30Speaker 1: they made mistakes, they learned from those mistakes and push forward.
- 27:33Speaker 1: So you know, for me, I'm not the only one.
- 27:35Speaker 1: You know, when you when you look at Senator Nina Turner,
- 27:38Speaker 1: I feel like she should be the leader of the
- 27:40Speaker 1: progressive movement in this country.
- 27:41Speaker 3: You know.
- 27:42Speaker 1: I think I think that for us to talk about it,
- 27:45Speaker 1: and I'm talking about my community, on the black community,
- 27:47Speaker 1: for us to talk about progression and not be talking
- 27:49Speaker 1: about her actively is damn near crime. Like what's wrong
- 27:52Speaker 1: with us? It's like ignoring Malcolm in the sixties, which
- 27:54Speaker 1: people did you know that people ignored Malcolm in after
- 27:57Speaker 1: he was dead, all of a sudden he had more fandom.
- 27:59Speaker 1: And because of people like Dick Gregory. You know, when
- 28:02Speaker 1: people say celebrities don't mean much, because of people like
- 28:04Speaker 1: Dick Gregory's name stayed alive. People like Spike Lee, his
- 28:06Speaker 1: name stayed alive. So for me, you know, my thing
- 28:09Speaker 1: is Teslin Figaro, who now pops up on the Breakfast Club.
- 28:12Speaker 1: You know, has her, has her, has her own podcast,
- 28:15Speaker 1: and it's also does work with Revolte. Teslin is an
- 28:19Speaker 1: amazing political mind. And part of the reason I stay,
- 28:23Speaker 1: you know, just in know of what it is is
- 28:26Speaker 1: because I constantly communicate with people like Nina. I constantly
- 28:28Speaker 1: communicate with Nina, with Teslin, you know, Jennifer Farmer's amazing
- 28:31Speaker 1: publicist out of Berney campaign. It's just some black women
- 28:34Speaker 1: in Ohio in but it's brilliant when it comes to
- 28:36Speaker 1: you know. So my thing is stay in touch with
- 28:38Speaker 1: the people doing the work and less of an organizer
- 28:42Speaker 1: now because my day job takes me away, but more
- 28:44Speaker 1: of a mobilizer.
- 28:45Speaker 3: How do you get people there?
- 28:46Speaker 1: By the time doctor King was maybe two three years
- 28:50Speaker 1: before he got out of you know, he was assassinated
- 28:52Speaker 1: by this part this government. My belief doctor King was
- 28:57Speaker 1: a mobilizer when he show up, they knew people were
- 28:59Speaker 1: going to show up. But people organized on the ground
- 29:01Speaker 1: included people like John Lewis and Crudi, people like Reveren
- 29:03Speaker 1: James and Warner. Included people like Stokely Carmichael, you know,
- 29:07Speaker 1: you know, also known as Kwame Tour. That's who we need.
- 29:09Speaker 1: We need more of y'all. You know, I'd love for
- 29:12Speaker 1: another Killer Mike to pop alone, you know what I mean.
- 29:14Speaker 1: But until that happens, you got to congratulate the people
- 29:18Speaker 1: that are working their ass off to try the best
- 29:20Speaker 1: they you know, try to be the best they can be.
- 29:22Speaker 1: And I think that they are worthy of our support locally,
- 29:24Speaker 1: but look hyper local. I want to tell people that
- 29:27Speaker 1: don't be so enamored by what the television is telling
- 29:30Speaker 1: you to argue about with the before you even get
- 29:35Speaker 1: to your counselman, what do your ten neighbors think of
- 29:38Speaker 1: the street? I learned this first from my grandmother. My
- 29:42Speaker 1: grandmother didn't like the way sanitation was leaving people garbage cares.
- 29:46Speaker 1: She didn't think enough care concerned, and so she took
- 29:49Speaker 1: it the city council. She was angry with about it,
- 29:51Speaker 1: and she would didn't get satisfied when she heard, so
- 29:53Speaker 1: she went and sat in the mayor's office till he
- 29:55Speaker 1: saw her. She literally just went it, sat in here
- 29:58Speaker 1: until too until she can plain, and she still didn't
- 30:00Speaker 1: get what she wanted. And within two weeks we want
- 30:04Speaker 1: Channel five News was my grandmother saying, this is how
- 30:07Speaker 1: they do the black folks, black community All of a sudden,
- 30:09Speaker 1: we've never had issues sanitation again because that black mayor
- 30:14Speaker 1: wants to get elected, that black city council person and
- 30:16Speaker 1: they say they want to do good for the black community.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Well put our barberge cans down respectfully, because we respectful people.
- 30:21Speaker 3: We clean our yards.
- 30:22Speaker 1: And it's just she was my hero in that fashion,
- 30:25Speaker 1: and I want more heroes like that because that's the
- 30:28Speaker 1: way you create a killer, right, you create a Fanny
- 30:30Speaker 1: new Hamer, you know, you create you create all these
- 30:34Speaker 1: people that care, that aid, the people that may be
- 30:37Speaker 1: the tip of the spear, you know, Theynard rushing. You
- 30:40Speaker 1: create these people by being hyperactive. So whoever on a
- 30:43Speaker 1: local level in your town is doing something takes some
- 30:46Speaker 1: time to help them out.
- 30:47Speaker 2: I was gonna say, like it feels that what would
- 30:50Speaker 2: be your message for people who are so just exhausted
- 30:54Speaker 2: with the process because it feels like a hopeless, a
- 31:00Speaker 2: little cool landscape nationally world worldly things are like obviously
- 31:05Speaker 2: we got we got.
- 31:05Speaker 3: Wars going on in the world. I say, listen to
- 31:07Speaker 3: what I just told you.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Yeah, just focus on what you because what you can
- 31:11Speaker 2: really control is your neighbors, is you could you.
- 31:13Speaker 3: Know if you all do a little nobody gotta do
- 31:15Speaker 3: a lot, val you do a little bit, a little bit.
- 31:20Speaker 2: I'm wondering, man, for you, have you thought about uh,
- 31:24Speaker 2: my boy, Jelly Roll just had a speech that viral.
- 31:26Speaker 3: Jelly Man, Thank you. He was.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Jelly was one of the first d ms I looked
- 31:31Speaker 1: at when I got nominated, And it's just I've been
- 31:35Speaker 1: cheering for him all year.
- 31:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's crazy because people don't realize he kind
- 31:40Speaker 2: of comes from that like underground white.
- 31:44Speaker 3: Like you know, I'm a Southern so you know little
- 31:46Speaker 3: white Jelly Roll all it. Yeah, you don't.
- 31:49Speaker 1: It's not yellow Wolf, my brother, Like, yeah, you don't.
- 31:53Speaker 1: You don't miss it because we all from the same place.
- 31:56Speaker 1: Might have been a trailer park, might have been, a project,
- 31:58Speaker 1: might have been, might have been, but it is and
- 32:01Speaker 1: it's like, so I was cheering for him, and we
- 32:04Speaker 1: share a lot of similarities, you know what I'm saying.
- 32:07Speaker 2: You guys each have very unique past to where you
- 32:09Speaker 2: currently are.
- 32:10Speaker 1: When I heard his Grammy speech, my sister, my sister
- 32:13Speaker 1: said it to me because she loves him to death,
- 32:15Speaker 1: and she said, she said, he said, she said, it
- 32:17Speaker 1: sounds like somebody I know, get your speech ready.
- 32:21Speaker 2: My co hosts from my radio show, James Andre Jefferson Jr.
- 32:24Speaker 2: He's like, man, you know, he goes to a black
- 32:26Speaker 2: church every Sunday and he's like, man, they played Jelly
- 32:28Speaker 2: Roast speech at church.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Bro it was like, yeah, hey man, God, God, God
- 32:33Speaker 3: gonna make a way.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Such a crazy like it's just so dope to see
- 32:36Speaker 2: somebody like that who's been like a peer of friend
- 32:39Speaker 2: and just to have just this whole other like and
- 32:43Speaker 2: if you ever have known Jelly, you know, he's always
- 32:45Speaker 2: been this guy who you're like, Man, if people just
- 32:48Speaker 2: talk to they love you.
- 32:49Speaker 1: If they gave you a chance. So many people and again, congratulations, Jail.
- 32:54Speaker 1: I love you, I love you, I love your family. Man,
- 32:56Speaker 1: you and your wife are bomb. I'm happy for you.
- 32:59Speaker 1: I look forward to forty fifty more years of you
- 33:01Speaker 1: just doing it dope.
- 33:03Speaker 3: I am.
- 33:06Speaker 1: My thing is man, Just give folks a shot my things.
- 33:10Speaker 1: I didn't want to die without you really haven't met Michael,
- 33:14Speaker 1: and give me a shot. I knew you hadn't listened
- 33:16Speaker 1: to me because everything you say you missing a rap.
- 33:19Speaker 3: I already am.
- 33:20Speaker 1: I was already given you dope, you know, And I'm
- 33:24Speaker 1: glad that you didn't or you turned deathfeit to me
- 33:27Speaker 1: for as long as you did, because it gave me
- 33:29Speaker 1: an opportunity to find the discipline through Run the Jewels
- 33:33Speaker 1: of how to take two and a half years to
- 33:35Speaker 1: make Michael. It took me ten years of being Run
- 33:38Speaker 1: the Jewels to understand I am building a community. I'm
- 33:41Speaker 1: not just talking to an audience. It took me ten
- 33:44Speaker 1: years to understand now seven years because it started about
- 33:47Speaker 1: three years ago. It took me seven years to understanding.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Now it's time, you know. And I take it seriously
- 33:53Speaker 1: and not seriously to the fact it ain't fun or
- 33:56Speaker 1: you and your old lady can't get blasted to it
- 33:58Speaker 1: and go to the Flying Chicken see something drop. But
- 34:01Speaker 1: I take it seriously and that I'm trying to give
- 34:04Speaker 1: you or no, I've given you a level of quality
- 34:06Speaker 1: that you deserve as a listener. You know, hip hop
- 34:10Speaker 1: is looked at as something that does not involve high
- 34:14Speaker 1: art and culture, or if it does, it doesn't involve
- 34:18Speaker 1: it from a working class standpoint, you know. Somehow in
- 34:21Speaker 1: order to be of high standard, you have to be
- 34:24Speaker 1: collegiate or you have to wear you know, weird shit
- 34:27Speaker 1: with weird fucking names. You know, I'm wearing an ebbits
- 34:30Speaker 1: Field jacket and I feel stylish as a motherfucker because
- 34:33Speaker 1: this motherfucker made in America and it's about football, and
- 34:37Speaker 1: this is the good jacket my grandpa put on when
- 34:40Speaker 1: he wasn't working, you know. And that's that's what That's
- 34:43Speaker 1: what I'm a That's what I'm about. I take pride
- 34:45Speaker 1: in this ship. I take pride in the fact of
- 34:47Speaker 1: knowing that whether it was Pony or Puma or.
- 34:50Speaker 3: Nike, we did that. We created sneaker culture. Nike doesn't
- 34:55Speaker 3: happen without hip hop and its capacity. It just doesn't.
- 34:58Speaker 3: Starter starter, does it happened?
- 35:01Speaker 2: I can you can literally name anything.
- 35:03Speaker 3: It doesn't. It doesn't happen.
- 35:04Speaker 2: So Linciaga, I take this ship, you know what I'm saying, Like, I.
- 35:07Speaker 3: Take it that seriously, I love this ship. I love
- 35:10Speaker 3: this ship to my core. I love the ship. Want bones.
- 35:12Speaker 3: This ain't some shit I'm doing on the way to
- 35:14Speaker 3: somewhere else.
- 35:15Speaker 2: You know, you guys have done such a great job
- 35:18Speaker 2: of in a world in which it feels like the
- 35:21Speaker 2: business model of being a rapper is uh, extremely hard
- 35:26Speaker 2: if you're especially an independent rapper.
- 35:28Speaker 3: Right, Like, it ain't easy.
- 35:29Speaker 2: It's not easy because if you're just looking at what
- 35:33Speaker 2: a million streams pays you, right, it feels like almost
- 35:36Speaker 2: like a hopeless climb up a mountain in order to
- 35:38Speaker 2: really make a career or be able to just support
- 35:41Speaker 2: your yourself, let alone your family. Right, you guys have
- 35:45Speaker 2: done such a good job over the last ten years
- 35:47Speaker 2: of monetizing the brand. Right, what are some things that
- 35:52Speaker 2: you're doing with Michael, whether it's obviously the tour was successful,
- 35:59Speaker 2: you know, I think always tell people like, if you're
- 36:01Speaker 2: if you got a fan base and you're not and
- 36:03Speaker 2: you don't have a hard weight, obviously people are gonna
- 36:07Speaker 2: stream it, but you want them to buy the twelve
- 36:08Speaker 2: inch vinyl, You want them to buy a CD, a tape.
- 36:11Speaker 3: Man, I'm not gonna pretend to be no mastermind. I follow.
- 36:15Speaker 3: I follow my brother currency man shouts out there, man
- 36:18Speaker 3: who's on the album? Yeah?
- 36:19Speaker 1: Him and him and two Chinese. They on my dope
- 36:21Speaker 1: boar record. Usually your dope board record. You're hearing we
- 36:23Speaker 1: sold the most dopeer. Sometimes dope boys just throw a
- 36:26Speaker 1: dope barbecue and invite all the other dope boys can
- 36:28Speaker 1: come out, and you see their cars, and you get
- 36:30Speaker 1: motivated to do good in school because your mama tell
- 36:32Speaker 1: you they did.
- 36:32Speaker 3: Good at school. That's why they got it.
- 36:34Speaker 1: That's how our record hits me when the spaceship views,
- 36:38Speaker 1: so I got to figure out shoots under that. But Spiter,
- 36:42Speaker 1: I love the relaxed ways to hint like him and
- 36:45Speaker 1: move some move like cause it's just he do what's
- 36:48Speaker 1: genuely him.
- 36:49Speaker 3: I remember going down there when he had the car shop.
- 36:52Speaker 1: You can go get your brakes and funk around me,
- 36:54Speaker 1: have a thirty minute convocause there you.
- 36:56Speaker 2: Know, crazy, did you get your brakes done?
- 36:58Speaker 1: And you're hanging out with you know what I'm saying, like,
- 37:00Speaker 1: that's that's the kind of shit I'm into. So I've
- 37:02Speaker 1: just leaned into the ship that I love and like
- 37:04Speaker 1: my wife and I built in the swag shop over
- 37:07Speaker 1: the last eleven years. I bought that when I was
- 37:09Speaker 1: recording rap music. I sold my ninety five in Paula
- 37:12Speaker 1: and bought the swash shop off Craigslist, the first swag shop.
- 37:16Speaker 2: And I've been to that one.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, ye, that's Rosewell Highway.
- 37:20Speaker 1: We got one on Edge. We we got one to
- 37:21Speaker 1: State Farm, Marina. We rolling out two to three next year.
- 37:24Speaker 1: You know, I'm like, I've had eleven It took us
- 37:27Speaker 1: five to really kind of figure out what we were doing.
- 37:29Speaker 1: I just always wanted to have a barbershops, cool place
- 37:31Speaker 1: to hang out. I have to wait in line. But
- 37:33Speaker 1: what we realized doing COVID, especially when we closed, moms
- 37:37Speaker 1: were dming me like, don't close y'all shops. Y'all shops
- 37:40Speaker 1: is one of the only places that I can bring
- 37:42Speaker 1: my boy. I know he's in the company of good
- 37:44Speaker 1: men with integrity. I'm treated with respect. There was just
- 37:47Speaker 1: and then they said, man, we love when y'all do
- 37:49Speaker 1: the little T shirt drops and stuff. So we were like, man,
- 37:51Speaker 1: we're gonna have to be paying. Let's just press up
- 37:53Speaker 1: some shirts. And what we realized is, man, you are
- 37:56Speaker 1: a brand operating as a barber shop.
- 37:58Speaker 2: Yeah, so I think I got a new era.
- 38:00Speaker 1: Yeah, so we got we got new era stuff coming.
- 38:02Speaker 1: We got more T shirts and stuff coming. We got
- 38:04Speaker 1: more product, everything with cigarette lighters. That's trade cool stuff coming.
- 38:07Speaker 1: But we're a barber shop, and we've spent some time
- 38:11Speaker 1: figuring out what kind of shampoos I like. I hate
- 38:14Speaker 1: the smell girly, so it's not like I'm using a
- 38:15Speaker 1: girls stuff. I hate the I don't want to smell
- 38:18Speaker 1: like old spice like my dad, you know what I mean.
- 38:20Speaker 3: So we developed.
- 38:21Speaker 1: I got a shampoo conditioner thing coming out. I got
- 38:24Speaker 1: some shaving cream coming out, beer bong. I just got
- 38:26Speaker 1: some cool stuff that you can just buy. When at
- 38:28Speaker 1: the shop, you're getting to get in a haircut. So
- 38:29Speaker 1: I'm excited about that to see what that's going to do,
- 38:32Speaker 1: because I know that as a man, I don't like
- 38:34Speaker 1: going into beauty supply stores.
- 38:36Speaker 3: As a guy.
- 38:36Speaker 1: When my Jordans dropped, I might, I might not have
- 38:39Speaker 1: no problem paying two hundred dollars for the Jeorans, but
- 38:41Speaker 1: I don't.
- 38:41Speaker 3: Want to play one hundred and fifty dollars for a
- 38:42Speaker 3: T shirt. Hey what up?
- 38:43Speaker 2: You always got to stop the interview, tell you about
- 38:45Speaker 2: our good folks at King Palm. That's right, let me
- 38:47Speaker 2: tell you about King Pom.
- 38:48Speaker 3: Man.
- 38:48Speaker 2: It's all we smoking over here, But I love about
- 38:50Speaker 2: King Pom chirping infused flavor in each one of these.
- 38:55Speaker 2: These are the margarita. Now, this is kind of the
- 38:57Speaker 2: wave I've been on recently.
- 38:59Speaker 3: These margarita ones.
- 39:00Speaker 2: Are fucking fire, no tobacco, no nicotine, straight raw organic
- 39:06Speaker 2: fresh leaves. And what's dope is they got the tip.
- 39:10Speaker 2: You squeeze the tip, you hit one of these boys,
- 39:12Speaker 2: and you just get hit with that flavor. Man, you
- 39:14Speaker 2: get hit with that flavor, no matter how big or
- 39:16Speaker 2: small the palm is. You know what I'm saying. This
- 39:19Speaker 2: is what's dope too. King Pom. If y'all don't know, man,

- 41:48Speaker 2: The three is very uncomfortable, but it's just such a.
- 41:51Speaker 3: I probably like the silhouette of Afford event.
- 41:53Speaker 2: Amazing, No, it's it's and then yeah, you know you

- 42:13Speaker 2: That's going back to so yeah, but but the trigger

- 42:33Speaker 2: like we're turning the corner? I mean, obviously the name
- 42:36Speaker 2: of the shows trigger warning. A lot of people for
- 42:37Speaker 2: the last five or six years get triggered easily and
- 42:40Speaker 2: our there's a lot of online outrage. You've been subject
- 42:42Speaker 2: to some of that when you're did with the gun thing.
- 42:45Speaker 3: People were coming at you crazy.
- 42:47Speaker 2: But I wonder do you feel like society's turning a
- 42:50Speaker 2: corner when it comes to like some of the like
- 42:54Speaker 2: more sensitive, like people just have been like all time sensitive.
- 42:57Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't care. I've learned my lesson.
- 43:01Speaker 1: My grandfather was who he was for a reason. I
- 43:04Speaker 1: bet you, if the world go down tomorrow, the power
- 43:06Speaker 1: grips shut off, I bet you, my family and me,
- 43:08Speaker 1: you got you, We'll be okay.
- 43:10Speaker 2: Is the crip sustainable?
- 43:12Speaker 3: If the ship stops tomorrow, I'm gonna be okay.
- 43:18Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying. It matters of being triggered. I
- 43:21Speaker 1: just like to tell people, man, don't let that anxiety
- 43:24Speaker 1: get to you. Man, just take care of yourself, you know,
- 43:26Speaker 1: do right by yourself and do right by other people.
- 43:28Speaker 3: Because if you.
- 43:29Speaker 1: Keep worrying about what the world's gonna do, you never
- 43:31Speaker 1: gonna take time to live. You donna spend your to
- 43:33Speaker 1: waste your time worrying. Now, just you know, in telling
- 43:37Speaker 1: whatever your version of the truth is, just remember on
- 43:40Speaker 1: the other side of that truth is somebody else is
- 43:42Speaker 1: thinking or feeling their logic. And on the other side
- 43:44Speaker 1: of that may be some repercussions and whatever those are,
- 43:47Speaker 1: they are. But man, I make sure my kids watch
- 43:50Speaker 1: George Carlin. I make sure my kids watch watch what
- 43:52Speaker 1: you're prior. I make sure my kids because you need
- 43:55Speaker 1: to make sure that there's a healthy human distrust of systems.
- 44:00Speaker 2: M And I think we've gotten rid of. Like what
- 44:03Speaker 2: you just said is like, however you feel, whatever your
- 44:06Speaker 2: truth is, the other side, that's their.
- 44:09Speaker 3: Truth, you know, make it the truth.
- 44:11Speaker 2: It doesn't make it the truth. But there's gotta be
- 44:14Speaker 2: some dialogue.
- 44:14Speaker 3: I smoked.
- 44:16Speaker 1: I got on a plane to come out here, and
- 44:18Speaker 1: I watched something my gay uncle watched thirty years ago,
- 44:21Speaker 1: and I just was too young to even understand to
- 44:25Speaker 1: watch it at all. And I got a chance to
- 44:26Speaker 1: see a lot of stuff because my parents were so young.
- 44:28Speaker 1: The other kids wouldn't seen. But Parents is Burning such
- 44:32Speaker 1: an interesting movie. You know, it's about these gay kids
- 44:34Speaker 1: in New York and about these drag balls that they're throwing.
- 44:37Speaker 1: So but but what I learned about poverty. And I
- 44:41Speaker 1: had a friend named Kevin Man. He was an amazingly
- 44:44Speaker 1: brilliant organizer. He was a kid whose parents, because he
- 44:48Speaker 1: was gay, had kicked him out, and he lived in
- 44:51Speaker 1: a foster home of sources. And I saw him be
- 44:54Speaker 1: used and abused by older men in terms that you
- 44:56Speaker 1: could tell the story. I was hip enough to know
- 44:59Speaker 1: if he came out black Eye son happened, you know,
- 45:02Speaker 1: that kind of ship. But it made me really have
- 45:04Speaker 1: even more empathy and love for him. He's gone now,
- 45:07Speaker 1: you know, God bless it dead. But I saw these
- 45:09Speaker 1: kids that were just from positive it's poor kids. So
- 45:12Speaker 1: they talked about how how at first with the older
- 45:16Speaker 1: guys at that time, they had you know, done big
- 45:19Speaker 1: feathers and balls and things. It made them feel good
- 45:22Speaker 1: about themselves. It was an alternative feeling of poverty. And
- 45:25Speaker 1: then the kids got into a designer you know it
- 45:28Speaker 1: was it was Eve Saint Laurent, that kind of thing,
- 45:30Speaker 1: and they presented themselves that way. But I didn't know
- 45:32Speaker 1: there were all these sub categories of what was real
- 45:35Speaker 1: or what could And I just said, Wow, this really
- 45:38Speaker 1: is a group of human beings that created another reality
- 45:40Speaker 1: for themselves as a as a as an autonative and
- 45:44Speaker 1: pain and desperation. Essentially, I participated in that through hip hop. Essentially,
- 45:48Speaker 1: kids who are who are sports heads participated that. If
- 45:52Speaker 1: you hear somebody ever talk about jiu jitsu, and you'll
- 45:54Speaker 1: think they're talking about a religion.
- 45:55Speaker 3: You know, you know what I'm saying, what I'm saying.
- 45:57Speaker 3: So for me, that helped.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Expand my understanding in a way that I cannot go
- 46:03Speaker 1: forward not understanding, you know what I mean. I can
- 46:06Speaker 1: go forward disagreeing or agreeing, or go forward without understanding exactly.
- 46:11Speaker 1: And that's so for me. I'm I'm on a mission
- 46:14Speaker 1: or journey of life trying to understand more.
- 46:17Speaker 2: I always say that about like the abortion thing, Like
- 46:19Speaker 2: however you feel about the abortion thing. I mean, obviously
- 46:21Speaker 2: I'm a pro choice guy within reason, but like the
- 46:25Speaker 2: other side, I get if you feel like it's murdered.
- 46:28Speaker 2: I can't even say nothing to you. I understand your perspective,
- 46:31Speaker 2: and I understand why you're so passionate about it. I
- 46:33Speaker 2: might not agree, but you got your stance, and I
- 46:37Speaker 2: get it. People have to be more like aware of
- 46:40Speaker 2: like other people's perspective because you work with people who
- 46:43Speaker 2: you don't agree with every day you're you're you're gonna
- 46:46Speaker 2: stand in line next to somebody a subway with somebody
- 46:48Speaker 2: done with.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Them to hear them out, and you could disagree. I
- 46:52Speaker 1: got a television show called Love and Respect. We just
- 46:55Speaker 1: want an Emmy for it. I want a day and
- 46:58Speaker 1: want to amy for interview with Bernice King, doctor King's
- 47:02Speaker 1: youngest daughter.
- 47:03Speaker 3: Doctor me. M okay, you his daughter.
- 47:05Speaker 1: But this show is all about just having conversations with
- 47:08Speaker 1: people I might agree or disagree with, you know, and
- 47:10Speaker 1: and I've disagreed with blatantly liberal people disagree with blatantly conservative.
- 47:17Speaker 1: And and my thing is at the end of each talk,
- 47:19Speaker 1: though I know I've connected more to another human. I
- 47:22Speaker 1: think that should be Ultimately, that's would be what we're
- 47:24Speaker 1: pushing for. So even in matters of business, if I'm
- 47:27Speaker 1: selling the product just because it's from a place of
- 47:30Speaker 1: my own humanity, I wanted a barbershop. I think barbershops
- 47:33Speaker 1: are cool places to buy my T shirts and socks
- 47:36Speaker 1: because I don't want to buy the fucking gas station.
- 47:38Speaker 1: So my barbershop sells a branded heath, a gray, black
- 47:42Speaker 1: and white teeth.
- 47:42Speaker 3: That's fire.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Get your white tea right there, and it's and it
- 47:47Speaker 1: and it matches your jay's it's the same, healthy.
- 47:49Speaker 3: Great. You get what I'm saying, You know, I don't.
- 47:51Speaker 1: I don't want to go into beauty supply store with
- 47:54Speaker 1: with with with my cousins, with the fucking caps on
- 47:56Speaker 1: their head and my little nieces running through that bit.
- 47:58Speaker 1: So you can buy your chef who's the self right there?
- 48:01Speaker 1: I want it So I want to create business. That's natural,
- 48:03Speaker 1: you know to me. I just got like thirty thousand
- 48:06Speaker 1: the square foot of squarehouse space in Atlanta. We're going
- 48:09Speaker 1: to be doing our own you know, similar ship studio stuff. Man,
- 48:11Speaker 1: you know, so I just I'm just trying to leave
- 48:14Speaker 1: a legacy.
- 48:14Speaker 2: You're doing recording studios or yeah, just.
- 48:17Speaker 1: No prompt film and filman film in and audio. So
- 48:22Speaker 1: you're gonna be able to do recording studios. You're gonna
- 48:24Speaker 1: be able to record.
- 48:24Speaker 2: Your Podcastlanta's the new Hollywood man. Yeah, I think I
- 48:27Speaker 2: think Tyler Perry his paces.
- 48:29Speaker 3: He's a man man.
- 48:30Speaker 1: He watches I didn't know I was so heavily involved,
- 48:32Speaker 1: but they used me a lot of his his prime
- 48:34Speaker 1: movie that entary yet.
- 48:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to watch it because he.
- 48:38Speaker 3: Is powerful and inspire.
- 48:41Speaker 2: He's like the boss.
- 48:42Speaker 3: How he's powerful.
- 48:44Speaker 2: This guy should have owned bet right now. They fucked
- 48:46Speaker 2: that up.
- 48:46Speaker 3: Well, signs don't happen. You know, you don't get it
- 48:48Speaker 3: the first time, you know, no.
- 48:50Speaker 2: But it's crazy. He's sure on a black person.
- 48:52Speaker 1: You're on BT Hey, I agree, but we're gonna see
- 48:54Speaker 1: it's gonna happen byron A Byron Allen wanted it too.
- 48:57Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I think you know, I think fifty took
- 48:59Speaker 1: us out of it. I want to see I'm cheating
- 49:01Speaker 1: full so all to win.
- 49:02Speaker 2: Yeah no, fifty, I was just well, I want to
- 49:05Speaker 2: We had a there's a network that somebody just left recently,
- 49:08Speaker 2: and I was like, what if fifty came in and
- 49:10Speaker 2: ran that network and had all his own Like fifty
- 49:12Speaker 2: needs his own network.
- 49:14Speaker 3: I think it's gonna happen, like he pops stars off.
- 49:16Speaker 3: I think it's gonna happen.
- 49:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's crazy. We'll listen. Man. The album is
- 49:21Speaker 2: Michael a piece of art. Thank you, beautiful album. Everyone
- 49:25Speaker 2: should go listen to. It is my album of the year.
- 49:28Speaker 2: I really actually don't even think it's close.
- 49:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 49:30Speaker 2: I mean that with all due respect. Usually I would
- 49:32Speaker 2: tell you if I was like and technically metro Booming
- 49:35Speaker 2: came out last year and I love the metro Booming album,
- 49:38Speaker 2: But this year, I don't think it's close. So I
- 49:41Speaker 2: don't think it's close. There's not another album that has
- 49:44Speaker 2: even made me quite because usually I'm like, man, it's
- 49:47Speaker 2: by the time December hit, You're like, damn, it's like
- 49:49Speaker 2: three or four. It's only one and then the rest.
- 49:51Speaker 1: And just sit down and if y'all and if y'all
- 49:53Speaker 1: think is man, just sit down and listen. Listening off
- 49:56Speaker 1: and hard. You ain't got to like me, but boy,
- 49:57Speaker 1: it's gonna be hard not to love this album.
- 50:00Speaker 2: Your percent. Man, Hey, I wonder are you Are you
- 50:02Speaker 2: going back on Rogan anytime soon?
- 50:03Speaker 3: I know that's yeah.
- 50:05Speaker 1: Rogan is yeah. Rogan first of all, definitely friendship. Love
- 50:08Speaker 1: him to death and his whole staff over those guys
- 50:10Speaker 1: are great.
- 50:10Speaker 2: Have you into the comedy Mothership yet?
- 50:12Speaker 3: Yes? I got went over there, stalled the ship solid.
- 50:15Speaker 2: I wasn't.
- 50:16Speaker 3: It was amazing.
- 50:16Speaker 1: He put me up in these little the Seatson in
- 50:18Speaker 1: the balcony. It was held of dark. No one even
- 50:20Speaker 1: knew I was in there was it was.
- 50:21Speaker 3: It was dope. I had a great time. Rogan.
- 50:23Speaker 1: Man, I just want to say, I just just man.
- 50:26Speaker 1: He to me, Man, he stands on the side of
- 50:29Speaker 1: truth tellers.
- 50:30Speaker 3: You know, I don't.
- 50:30Speaker 1: You don't always people don't always agree with him. He
- 50:33Speaker 1: doesn't always agree with people. We don't always agree with
- 50:35Speaker 1: one another. But man, there's something to be said for
- 50:38Speaker 1: letting people have platform to just discuss agreeances and disagreeances.
- 50:43Speaker 1: So I agree, you know, I value value it for
- 50:45Speaker 1: that reason, you know, value him as a human for
- 50:47Speaker 1: that reason. And he taught me the beauty of eating
- 50:49Speaker 1: elk meat and peppers, because god damn.
- 50:52Speaker 2: Seeing those posts, I haven't ever had. Have you had
- 50:54Speaker 2: elk meat?
- 50:55Speaker 3: Yes, you should have it. It's good.
- 50:56Speaker 1: It's a vendicent of sorts, you know what I mean,
- 50:59Speaker 1: Sweet dear, you gotta remember, we eat deer hog.
- 51:02Speaker 2: You know, That's what I feel so terrible and Mexico
- 51:05Speaker 2: he just killed hogs and left.
- 51:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, like you shouldn't.
- 51:08Speaker 1: I mean, I'm just you know, I guess you ain't
- 51:09Speaker 1: got to eat everyhow, but if you don't, you should
- 51:11Speaker 1: eat a hog.
- 51:12Speaker 2: You kid had loaded them into the helicopter.
- 51:14Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, but sometimes there are trucks too that are
- 51:18Speaker 1: out there, but they don't.
- 51:20Speaker 3: They don't eat any oft a holl.
- 51:21Speaker 1: No. They when my grandpa was from Man, they there's
- 51:25Speaker 1: hog farms down there, so they you know, crow hog.
- 51:28Speaker 1: They and they slaughtered a hog there and they'd already
- 51:30Speaker 1: have dug a pit into the ground. So my grandma
- 51:33Speaker 1: they cook the hogs above ground, right to keep my
- 51:35Speaker 1: grandpa's from they cooked their hogs in the ground. Totally
- 51:39Speaker 1: different type of flavor.
- 51:41Speaker 2: Are crazy, oh man, That's why I said the same thing.
- 51:43Speaker 2: I'm like, guys, can we like, can we like take
- 51:46Speaker 2: something from this hog? So feeling is bad? They're like,
- 51:49Speaker 2: no coyotes to eat them. Somebody's gonna eat.
- 51:51Speaker 3: It, damn Like we just there's too many of them.
- 51:53Speaker 2: There's millions of.
